Just saw your post as I am browsing reports before my next visit to Cebu in 2 months. Honquera has been mentioned in many previous reports but if you want cheap girls this is the place to go. This is where all the doormen, security guards, taxi drivers and such like get their girls from. The going rate is 500 pesos and you will normally be charged 1500 by the middle man, not a bad cut for them when you think about it. If you think 500 pesos will buy you a skank you could not be more mistaken. Sure some of these girls have been round the block a few times, but equally many of the girls are young and fresh as Honquera is a staging post to other destinations. The girls come to Cebu from Mindanau, Bohol and other islands to learn their trade before travelling elsewhere and believe me you can find some real beauties. Much has already been said about the safety issues of going to Honquera late at night when the real activity is going on. In my honest opinion you are safer in Honquera than anywhere else in Cebu. The trade in girls is tightly controlled by the local mafia with little more than a passing interest by the local police who are of course paid to give the area little attention. The last thing the local mafia need is a foreigner getting mugged or robbed since that can only damage business for them. Personally I would not pay a 2000 bar fine for a girl when I can get the same or better for 500 but some guys like the simplicity and ease of visisting a bar and selecting form those girls that are available. Just remember that the beautiful young girl offered to you by your taxi for 1500-2000 actually only cost him 500I said in my report Pesos 500 is the norm, your saying the going rate is P500. I never questioned safety at Jonquerra. Yes, there is the odd beauty in Jonquerra for a short period, but they are not going to screw with you for P500, unless of course you are young and good looking, and then you might even get if for free, LOL.

If I have the wrong end of the stick I apologise. The rest of my post was to remind readers to consider Honquera as an alternative and not to educate someone like yourself who is obviously already knowledgable about the area. I also know a number of ex pats in Cebu who are also knowledgable about the scene in Cebu, but who who would not even consider using Honquera. Anyway no disrespect intended

It would be even better if someone more experienced in the area will show me around.

Mango Ave bars are open until 4 am on Saturday. If you are staying on Mactan, check out Mermaids. It is a great bar and has shower shows. If you take a cab to Mermaids use the new bridge and as soon as you arrive in Mactan, tell the driver to do a U=turn and Mermaids is on your right, before you get back under the flyover.

I'm not sure how you'd like this, but some of the women after work go looking for pickups at places like Julianna's and Pump. They'll be freelancing at both. They're both discos. You can easily walk to Julianna's if you are in Mango area as it's in Mango Square.

Floyd, my very limited experience from Cebu comes from one sleepless morning at around 3-4 AM. This was a Monday or Tuesday, can not remember. Stawled down from the drug store on some corner to this Mango Plaza. At least 8 pretty girls eying me up on the way to Mango Placa and in the square on the plaza. Stopping, looking, giggling. And one pimp offered me "very young and pretty girls". At the tables around the bars I saw at least 10 more that looked available, during my quick visit to this area. Very simple to find company that evening.

Sxxxx is a lot more experienced with Jonquera than I am, but it is sometimes useful to get another newbie's slant on things as well. Anyway here is my two pennys worth. My first time in Jonquera was with an American pal who has been living and mongering in Cebu and the Phillipines for many years. He seemed to be getting frustrated at my attempts to find a reasonably priced gal one night and after a few beers said to me "right I am going to show you were to go" We headed off in a taxi, it only took a few minutes at that time of night from Mango Square before we arrived. I must admit that as we arrived I began to feel a bit uncomfortable, it was dark, poorly lit with all sorts of unsavoury characters floating around and the area was very run down. My friend appeared totally unconcerned and jumped out of the cab without so much as blinking an eye lid and I put my trust in god and him and joined him. He led me down an alleyway, which is wide enough to drive a car, and as we got down a few yards I could see what looked like small bars grouped along the sides with large groups of girls sat on plastic chairs. I got constantly hassled by pimps and others offering drugs, viagra and girls as we walked but I did not have too much hassle once they were politely and firmly told to go away. After walking up and down and viewing the merchandise I picked out a fresh looking girl and spoke to the Mamasan who was actually a guy. You couldn't miss him because he was sat on a chair surounded by his girls outside a little bar. 500 P was agreed and the girl came back with me to the cab. The money was paid up front there and then. This price was for short time but nothing was ever mentioned about specific times or what time the girl had to be back. My friend told me not to worry about that as she would not be expected back for several hours and that is exactly what happened. Short time ended up being about 3 hours, without any extra payment which I thought was pretty good in my book. That particular girl was memorable, a real GFE experience and an absolute stunner. I have ventured to Jonquera several times on my own since then however I do insist that the taxi driver accompanies me on foot making it clear he gets a tip but does not interfere when I am negotiating for a girl. You need to make this clear otherwise they will invariably try to engineer a way to get some sort of commission from a girl by inflating the price. All taxi drivers in the Phillipines are born with a unique genetic disposition that involves commission with everything they do! I have always been very clear and firm and never had a problem. I am sure you would be safe alone but I must admit the area can be very intimidating at night, I have never been there during the day so cannot comment on that. I've walked in there a few times myself (alone). I know of two entrances. The back entrance is better for avoiding the touts, who can be terribly annoying/persistent.
It's not for the faint of heart -- fits the bill for "adventure tourism"...or, maybe "extreme tourism"!
I've found "Our place" to be a nice oasis in that chaos of 3rd world urbanity. It's been there forever.

I really could use some advice on doctors clinics in cebu. I need to find a relaible and quick clinic to do the usual std tests in cebu. For me and my gf. Does anyone have any suggestions of places I could use in cebu. How fast do they give you the results. Sorry to ask this delicte question but thaought this is the best forum. Clinics in manila coild be an option too but prefer cebu

Earlier about 2 weeks ago I sent Pics and reported on a Casa that I use in Cebu. It is well known by all who frequent there. Hana Valley III is basicly a go in select girl and leave kind of place. Suggestions I have for newbies is this. When you get into taxi tell him you want to go to Gate III, Hana Valley. Alwys just like anywhere in the Philippines act like you been there before. Make sure you make it clear to taxi to wait and you will do the negotiating yourself. Ok so your in Taxi on way. You will pull up to a poorly lit area and someone will open up a big iron gate and the taxi will pull in. You should exit the taxi and head right. The Papason or someone will lead you into a building to a room about the size of half of a tennis court. Along all 4 walls are young ladies sitting in plastic chairs. There is NO one sided mirror and a bit intimidating at first for here you are in middle of room with all eyes on you and many giggles of the ladies smiling and laughing. The Papason gives you time to pick but there is a since of urgency of pick, pay and leave. Talk to Papason and tell him you want the girl you pick all night or time you specify. Its set price whether short or long time you pay same price. Usually the girl will stay night if you make it clear. Now you select girl and she goes to her room and get bag and yyou head out in taxi. I never had bad experience with this place. The girls will aim to please. If you have specific request make sure you tell Papason and he will suggest. Meaning if you like 3 holing you may let the Papason know because alot not like this. In Philippnes the price is always negotiable. But here I find the prices are set and firm with not much negotiable. Expensive maybe but consider all you should do is pay girls taxi back you should be fine. Prices are this: If you are Asian Japanese or Korean P5000, White caucasian P3000, Pinoy only P1500. Talking with one of the girl from long ago many local government peaple and law enforcement come in regularly and freebiees as you know in order to stay in business. I especially like this girl Sara #99 who just will give you a time you won't forget in all ways. Debbie #66 whom I had 2 x being there and showed picture in earlier report is quiet reserved but very GFE if this is what you prefer.
Last Saturday night I left BG's and was going to take taxi to Bounty. As I left the bar there were two taxi's waiting and the door man was trying to guide me, but I saw a taxi (8106) on the road that just slowed down and I walked over to get in. From my past experience, the taxi drivers say that they do not know where bounty is, so i told him to go Mactan. He started the meter and then asked me if I was drunk and I told him no. I know my way around Cebu and at the first traffic light he turned left and made a right on a small side street. I came off the back seat and almost in the front and I screamed "Where the fuck are you going????" and he almost shit his pants. He looked at me and said "What?". I asked him again and he replied, "I don't know where Mactan is". I was so mad, I told him to take me back to where he picked me up and I mean now. He turned the taxi around and went back to BG's. The meter was 60P and I just opened the door and got out. he didn't say anything. So, just make sure you don't drink too much and pay attention to your directions.

When going to brothels or palours in Thailand or Cambodia, the Taxi will always get their commision unless you walk to the establishment by getting out the taxi somewhere ahead. In your case, you just tell them no commision after arrival.
I will use that as my template going to Jonquera.

Best place I found in Cebu City is Chong Hua Hospital. Is a tall hospital that is in back of fuente osmena, you can see it from Robinsons. I had my girl checked there for HIV. They are very fast and efficient. Because they are a hospital they do all their tests in-house, no sending out and waiting for results. Everyone in Cebu knows where it is...if your girl is shy about getting tested, just say it is for "her American visa". Then everyone is happy.

It was the HIV antibody test. Maybe it was the "rapid antibody test", because the results were known by the next day. It was not the p24 antigen test! As I said, I can't remember the cost, but I do know it was worth it, because I had her test again in 6 months - all negative.
I want to stay in the Cebu City area for a few months. I want to rent a place and see how I like it. I would like a place that's close to a nice public beach. Or even a place with its own small private beach. I've been searching for a realtor on the internet for awhile, with no luck. Anyone know of a good realtor that won't screw me over too bad? I don't know how things work in the Philippines.

I have RTFF more than a year and a half back and can not find out if the Diplomat Hotel is girl-friendly. Does anybody have info on that? And is it a good location for Mango Park access? It has good reviews on Tripadvisor and the price is right.

Southbound69Virtually every hotel in PI is girl friendly. A foreigner with a girl on his arm is envied not despised. Don't be a cheapskate, pay for a double occupancy & act with decorum in public areas. You should have no problems.

Mattrick, how recent is your "fully booked" experience? Diplomat used to host the Korean students from an nearby English language school, but that school has moved to Mactan. I've found it easier to get a room the last time I was there.

GV Tower is quite new and has great views although rooms are small.
1 Block from ground zero for SW action and next door to university.
GV is fairly new. I went to take a look at a room one time, but the staff were so unhelpful that I just walked out. Of course staff member come and go...

Also check out the Northwest hotel, they still might have rooms under P1000, across from that is a pensione that rents by the month or by the day, big grey blue place, can;t remember the name but several board members have stayed there. Very cheap.
The Northwest is in Lahug and within walking distance of the sunflower disco...GF friendly of course.

Tcvve: Yes I believe he is talking about the 'Northwinds' and 'Crowne Garden' hotels which are both highly recommended!
Would recommend #4 on your list since it is in a better neighborhood especially if you are going to be active at night. If you don't like that place, there are a multitude of similar type pensions in that area.
X Man: Well I tried twice at the end of February, once as a walk in and the other time by phone. I later found out that it was indeed students but all men of the Arabic persuasion!

I think you'll find a lot of ladies from Mindanao in both locations. I've also found it more common for Cebu bar girls to be from Cebu City or nearby areas like Mandaue, etc.

Many are from up an down the Cebu provincial island. Many from San Fernando in the south to dan Bantayan in the north. Yiou might meet a few from Bohol. Some come from Northern Mindanao like Butuan and CDO area. A whole bus load from Surigao, remember, these ladies come from impoverished areas and prefer to ply thier trade away from home to avoid the stigma and disgrace of being a professional ho'.

Yer right, Northwinds it is, however, a slight word of caution about "cheap" hotels. ALL OF THEM... Filipino's like them too, the Northwinds is popular with overnight wedding guests who are having the reception in the nearby (cheap) cowry shell resturaunt, that often means hoardes of noisey children running the halls and garroulous Filipinos talking at the top of their voices until 3 AM. Many times it is the luck of the draw but weekends increases the chances.
Also forgot to mention Castle Peak, right around P1200.

I can second the comment about the Diplomat Hotel being full (and the guests being Arab). I called to check about available rooms after arriving at the airport and the front desk said 2 rooms available. They would not take a reservation, even though I would be there in 30 minutes. So I had the taxi take me there directly, arrived 30 minutes later and no rooms available. This was 3rd week of March.
The lobby and front area of the hotel were full of Arab looking guys, I was later told they were part of a contingent of students from Kuwait.
Some good points being made here, remember that many students from foreign countries, Kuwait and Korea being very predominant are somewhat seasonal occupants of many cheap long term hotels. School is out in the Phils over the next few months to resume in June. Book accordingly.

I can second the comment about the Diplomat Hotel being full (and the guests being Arab). I called to check about available rooms after arriving at the airport and the front desk said 2 rooms available. Kuwait.
I staid at the Diplomat off and on for about 2 weeks in July of 2007. The place was defiantly girl friendly, I brought 4 different non-pro girls there and never had a problem.
The prices were very decent and I ended up with a different room every time ranging from 1 big bed to 3 singles beds in the room. I kept going back to the place because they had good wifi reception in all the rooms and I would chat and upload my pictures during times when I was girl free.

I've been in Cebu since December, and all the places in my price range have beds that are way too soft or way too firm. I got used to it after a few days.
My experience with Taxi drivers in Cebu is that the ones waiting outside a hotel or girly bar are MUCH more likely to take the long way to wherever I'm going. I flag down a passing taxi with causes a real comotion among the waiting drivers and security guards.

You are going to be had pressed to find a florist in Cebu (or anywhere) that
accepts credit cards. Most of the florists here are mom and pop operations and cash only. One suggestion I can make is to check into the websites for Ayala Mall and SM mall, they might have a florist who advertises and they might take a credit card.

Well, as mentioned before. I only made it once to Cebu for a night, and to pull that stunt of in Davao you need to either be blind or get the word out that you offer them 1500 USD instead of PESO. But then again, he never mentioned how these women looks. Maybe all are old hags.

I have mixed emotions about LTF's report, first I marvel at the man''s staying power and physical prowess. i think that you are mistaking childlike innocence for the reality which is pig ignorance although i have met quite a few girls out there 'on the job' who were as bright or brighter than me (not too difficult).

enjoying being back after a long time away - 5 mos cebu 3 mos pattaya - and giving my junior a long deserved break. yes, i am not gong back into a relationship with my mother of child just for the sack of some tail in the off season.
i enjoyed a long term stay at crown garden hotel on salinas for about 26500 pesos per mos - as previously stated i like the rooms in the front of the building on 3 -5th floor. so if staying a month or more in cebu consider this establishment. i need a spring mattress, tile floors, big window with natural light, big room. the negatives are no free wi-fi.
i was member of the gym at waterfront lahug for four months and got myself in decent shape this time around so i can find a new gf here now in sex prison. as i was a night owl, to beat the heat and sun and mad traffic which is worsening in cebu i am very pleased with the vast increase of establishments plus the walk to eat late at night at it park on salinas too before or after a trip to sunflower across the street. i like this location in general. you have either joes chicken inato or aa bbq on either side of the crown garden - enjoyed a few meals with mattrick there.
there is northwinds in the area too which is decent but just didn't click with me.
after 9 pm its so easy to get around cebu and if you need to get down at julianas at mango square after dark travel is fast and cheap from crown garden. the laundry and barber service down the street from the hotel at kosh across from sunflower is good enough.
as i don't like going to the province or stepping outside of lahug for that matter. for the duration of the whole trip, with the exception of my one week in angeles as i arrived from bkk, i travelled only as far as spamhogs house in the outskirts of the city to be there for the blessing of his newly built comfy home. its good to see him back posting here and enjoyed several trips to sunflower with him and mrs. spamhog.
as to words of advice to sex addicts like myself about cebu which hasn't been posted here already - simply just show up and settle in, if you can't get laid here at least once or twice a day from semi pros to half decent ladies go to angeles city and stay there. cebu city rocks. you can find what you are looking for here just dont be shy to chat up the ladies because they wont chat you up unless they are hardened pros or a transvestite.

for high end dining gustavians in banilad and at the ayala terraces took the honors. there is a true tudor type pub for the estabished expats of cebu there in banilad with import beer on tap - top notch. badgers would be a step down. look forward to the reopening of ratskys at ayala or the old entertainment section on my next trip in december or thereabouts pg. enjoyed the newly refurbed pump 2 second opening and only visited pump 1 a few times. on special nights out with a fine lady loft and vudu did the trick with formo at btc providing a decent chill out location.
many new acoustic bars - elicia at terraces and it park - was enjoyed with numerous dates/the quiet before the storm at rajah park hotel, marriot poolside, waterfront in lobby, parklane poolside, marco polo poolside. special mention is papas on the way to pardo which has a decent band singing there.
for gro bars just the new bar across from love city was worthy of note. it is a big size and decent but the push for lady drinks was getting obnoxious and as with most gro bars.
visited the new mermaid in lapu 2x which is a type of a disco on weekends which is good for the location. did several trips to egypt and bounty and was glad not to get caught in a raid. with 10% of them being **** that is a wake up call.
lots of layoffs in mactan economic zone and many venues and establishments are into cost cutting. there was an influx of kuwait students during one period that helped during the lean times after sinulog. the weather this year was much worse than last with many overcast days in late afternoon and early onset of the rainy season.
one thing remained the same - i had an amazing shag fest. this year i enjoyed better experiences with more beautifull ladies this time around than i ever did before. this comes with experience as it is my third 9 month adventure back to back. with exception to that one thai ex gf which i still bear a slight pinkish nail mark on my flesh after 6 months god hasn't punished me yet.

Well unlike the filipina women in our lives, its hard to find a perfect fit.
The 5000 p deposit is a bit weird but not a problem for me; i had my refunded on three occassions in full. Sure beats renting a place and paying like 4 months in advance with a 50 - 50 chance of getting your money back.
No free wi-fi, the deposit, no dressers and a bad tasting restaurant sure is a negative but the positives outweigh them and negatives can be overcome. I used gprs or one can use smart bro on their laptop, use the restaurant on either side of the hotel, get a plastic dresser, kitchen table, and sofa and then maybe you are styling...
I doubt they will back down on their deposit requirement. The owners live upstairs, are Chinese for better or worse, and are very strict with their staff which has a high attrition rate and very poor leadership.
Alas, find a better hotel room for the money and I will comment on it because I have been to almost every single hotel in the city.
I might be lookng at a 8000p per mos filipino style 40sq. m. apartment for year round use next year. The cost savings are worth it at that level. Many apartments to be had just be mindfull of the manok waking you up et al.

The Crowne garden is a nice hotel with good location except for the before mentioned issues that Tout addressed and I will give you another one. They have the most stupid way of dealing with the free breakfast . First you have to deal with getting a chit from the lobby which usually is not available at check in. They ask you to come back later and pick it up.. Then you have to sign your name in their little green book at the lobby when you do. Then at the restraunt they make you sign again when the breakfast is served. What B/S !!! I even wrote the owners a letter saying why doesn't the restraunt just chech your key card when you go there as that would prove you have paid for the room. No need for all the paperwork.. But in the Phil they LOVE doing reciepts it seems. By the way the free breakfast is not so great but it's free so i deal with all the crap and save a 150 p that I can use for a few San Migs at night...lol...
They have the most stupid way of dealing with the free breakfast .What a pain.
However, they told me that free breakfast was part of the 26.5k monthly rate.
I'll find out if that is negotiable.

I do like the covered garage / lobby entrance which one can get guard to fetch a taxi for u without getting a drop on oneself.
Don't forget you can get your hot water thermos refilled 24/7. Use the phone at front desk otherwise you pay. The safe deposit box system 1000p deposit is very good.
The odd guy at the door would leave a few off the cuff remarks when I brought my regular lady around which would have pissed off a lady who thought i was holy. For some reason management let him go.
Don't get the rooms at the back if you don't like roosters / manok waking you up at all hours. Getting light into your room with the late afternoon sun is a big deal in Cebu at that price mark with that relative value. With exception to Diplomat, which would be my first choice if i found a gym of my liking in that area, but CityGym at Waterfront takes the cake with the use of the pool and 24/7 facilities for the single tourist.
I prefer the professional manner of the Diplomat from all staff members and the rooms too. They will discount 10% off the rack for one month and 20% for two months.

With the 700 plus interests i got - sorry i am pogi - and with going back on the messages 9 months back - i found that approx 4% were deleted by DIA management for being scamsters or overposting whatever etc...
DIA is a gem for those heading to Cebu with a large concentration of ladies looking for the hook up with or without the hooks.
FH i believe owns DIA as their format is similar - why they run a free service like DIA is beyond me.

Once on board, the first class stateroom for 2 may be reached and entered from other parts of the ship without passing any controls. There is a steward but I did not see him until Cebu when he came for the key. This stateroom has a large bed, A/C and a toilet shower combo. No hot water though it has standard hot and cold fixtures. Maybe I did not know the trick involved in getting it to run.
Now the question remains, is there a lady in any random selection of 300 or so Philippine people and do you have some very basic social skills in talking to people? My random group had about three prospects. One of them, a chinese looking 23 yo form Cebu was very close to closing the deal when some other random guy interrupted the deal. YMMV.
Stateroom and 2 or 3 meals less than 90 USD one way and you get to Cebu at the end. A nice intro to the friendly people here.

To other readers, obviously, the ferry is not a monger site like a bar but neither is it w/o targets of opportunity. You might say it's like trawling a mall but it's 3 or 4 hundred people max, mostly families. You have to dig a bit for the call center girl or student. Anyone you meet will likely be a normal upstanding citizen. Someone acting like a drunken fool might end up swiming to Cebu.

I've never experienced it personally (I haven't ridden ferries that often.), but a couple of my mentors met and bedded women on the long-distance ferries.
You have a bunk, privacy, an air conditioned cabin, and it's a long miserable ride for a girl on the deck, so a ferry ride is a pickup opportunity.
With the new bar code system in place at Cebu immigration i can state that it cuts wait times from average of 2 hours down to 30 minutes. I renewed three times last trip first time no barcode system was almost 3 hours when it was very busy. I had completed in the past under the old system from a low of one hour with no one around. On my last renewal i completed in under 25 minutes with no one around. So this is progress.
Word to wise: show up first thing or around 3pm and you have better chance of getting out faster as line seem to diminish by then. Don't wear shorts if you have been here several times in your current passport. If they see its your first time in the Phil they might let you sneak through in Cebu.
On the first and second trip the express lane fee which people can't circumvent now was 1000p and when i renewed just for a month on my third renewal it was only 500p but it was only for one month extension. The costs of staying in the Phil long time and paper work is not worth it.
If one plans to stay a long time in Phil; $20,000 in a time deposit after the age of 50 in the Retirement Program there has some cost benefits. The requirement drops to $10,000 if you have a pension of @ $800 per month back home. I will be making sure my company starts paying me a pension at 50 for a couple months prior. The one time fee of $1400 and almost zero financial and personal requirements once in the program giving you legal status in the Phil makes the program worth it at that age if you plan to die with your mongering boots off or on.
The office that can hook you up is at Cebu Waterfront Hotel just ask the bellhop.
I was not able to get two extensions on the same day like last year for some strange reason. I was denied twice trying to pull that stunt.

I've never heard of hotels opposing a visitor or one's guest, some might charge extra if you want a king sized bed vs a single. The higher priced the hotel the fussier they can be.
But I would however suggest a change in strategy.
First, I wouldn't stay at Marco polo, too overpriced, too difficult to get to and from. I would pick a place closer to town, if you have to have a top of the line hotel then look into the Marriot which is right next door to Ayala. But there are many cheaper hotels that will serve just as well and you can book ont he internet.
I would arrange to meet my "dates" at Ayala mall, not the hotel lobby. The reason is simple, if you are meeting several girls, one after the other, you never know when one of them will show up while you are engaged with another, then the fun can start, Happened to me many times. Also, maybe you don't like her for some reason, if in the Mall you can shine her on, if you both click then it is a short distance to walk to the Marriot.

I stayed 2 nights at the Parklane Hotel. Price at asia travel was about 73usd per night for a Parklane room. This is implied to be a upgrade but I did not see the superior room that is standard. The upgrade may be better but I can't confirm it. I liked the room very much.

The location of this hotel will appeal to those who plan to use the malling technique. It is a short but dangerous 3 minute walk to the Ayala mall. All the danger comes from traffic running you down like a dog. Sometimes the hotel will dispatch a doorman with you to fend off the jeeps, perhaps out of pity or perhaps from experience with losing paying customers. Bo's Coffee is the epicenter of the old guy scene. I made an effort not to use that place as it seemed wall to wall with sliver haired gents and sweet young things. This is not a criticism because I am rather old myself and most of those guys were better looking than me. It looked to me like a place to bring the target, not find her there. I did run across a working lady in another area of the mall, but she was not my type. I am sure I could have found several more.
As it happened, I ran into a aged (47) WL at Bo's. You can't avoid your fate. She showed me a wonderful time at a Blues and Jazz club that made my trip. The service was good but the guide services were even better. I paid her a serous sum because of this.

I've never heard of hotels opposing a visitor or one's guest, some might charge extra if you want a king sized bed vs a single. The higher priced the hotel the fussier they can be.
But I would however suggest a change in strategy.
First, I wouldn't stay at Marco polo, too overpriced, too difficult to get to and from. I would pick a place closer to town, if you have to have a top of the line hotel then look into the Marriot which is right next door to Ayala. But there are many cheaper hotels that will serve just as well and you can book ont he internet.
I would arrange to meet my "dates" at Ayala mall, not the hotel lobby. The reason is simple, if you are meeting several girls, one after the other, you never know when one of them will show up while you are engaged with another, then the fun can start, Happened to me many times. Also, maybe you don't like her for some reason, if in the Mall you can shine her on, if you both click then it is a short distance to walk to the Marriot.

I stayed at the marriot a few times, Me and Mrs Spamhog spent out honeymoon there more than four years ago, we saw plenty of mongering activity, no hassles, as usual be descreet, tip door men and security guards, be nice to them etc.
You can buy a SIM card for globe or talk and text, they are all over the Mall, comes with something like a free 100 text messages.
The Alayla Mall has been improved, all the resturaunts and eateries are in the area between the Marriot where the old walkway used to be, makes dining, meeting and mating much easier IMHO.

there are several apartelles in cebu, i would recommend you first establish yourself in a hotel and then go apartment or rental house hunting, avoid the lahug area, too many water shortages. rents can run you p7,000 a month for a typical place to p20,000 or more for a house, depending.

most of the taxi drivers act as part time rental agents and also they will know someone who are agents. besides usually look for newspaper when you arrive.
for now go to adpost.com/ph/cebu and you can get some numbers to call when you arrive in cebu.
no worries, you will easily find what you looking for in a day. water is a problem in cebu so enquire that.
mostly, get around a place where you wont be disturbed while bringing in your catch back home hehehe

Yes give Mermaids a try but don't pay more than 2500 php. There is another place close by called 'White Castle' that is suppose to have close to 200 girls. Stopped in last March around 7:30 pm to have a look but they were not open yet. There is also a string of small clubs on the other end of Quezon National Highway.
Hana Valley casa has a location in Lapu2 and is suppose to be better then the one in Banilad. Most cabbies will be able to get you there.
Queensland short time motel has a location near the Mandaue-Mactan Bridge (old bridge) and is open 24/7.

My first advice would be change hotels. The Marco Polo is too far from town, on a hill, and very hard to get taxi's.

You can also try Folick's. It is a smaller local bar and if you do go, there is a dancer there named River. She is one of the best that I found in Cebu. Go to Queensland (shortime hotel) on Mactan.

not long ago on this forum i gave another guy much the same advice as i am giving you. the marco polo is a lousy place for mongering, it is set up top of a hill overlooking cebu, it is hard to get to, few taxi's and there is nothing near it (walking distance) that is of interest to you.
i would advise you to check into the marriot which is downtown adjacent to ayala mall, it is upscale if that is what you want, has a nice pool and is ideal for mongering, girl friendly, all "the girls" know where it is and many jeepneys routes stop and go from the mall, remember that jeepneys are the main (read cheap) means of transport for for all social strata of filipina's.
ayala has enough western food to keep you happy, you can even monger there as lone girls sometimes stroll about the areas that foreigners hang in and "give you the eye" be wary as many are ****.
there are some outcall services you can look in the local paper and the special want ads paper, some even advertise in the phone book, but i wouldn't "buy a package unless i see what is in it" you never know what is gonna show up at your door.

Thank you for all of the advice on Mactan. I wish I could say I had a wonderful time. But unfortunately, I had to go out to eat with co-workers and didn't get free until 11:30 pm. By then I was too tired :(
I hope to come back again soon though. The last time I was in Cebu I had a great time.

spent a couple of days in cebu alone after sending the girlfriend back to the province and spent my mongering time along mango ave.
checked out silver dollar and was not impressed. the place looks like it hasn't been updated since the eighties and the talent was not to my liking. out of about 20 girls there were only 2 that could be considered even marginal prospects. not even close to hot, barely fuckable. i had one drink and moved on.
next stop was the thunderdome on ramos st. the girls there were better looking but the place had no atmosphere whatsoever. i think there was only one other customer there, a filipino, but not sure if he was even a customer as he was just sitting alone not drinking or ebven paying attention to the chicks. the girls looked extremely bored and not one even tried to make eye contact with me. just out of curiosity i asked how much the barfine was. answer- 4000+. finished my beer and headed out.
hit hot rod next. formerly black hole. in 2 previous trips i had found the black hole to be pretty much just as it sounds- shitty. hot rod definitely looks alot nicer with nice new sofas and spiffy whit walls and mirrors. unfortunately the talent was not up to par. saw a couple girls who were barfinebale, but nothing that knocked my socks off. very few customers there, plus a bit uncomfortable as the mamasan and papasan were constantly barking orders at the girls on stage. they were both dressed in suits, which seemed a bit out of place for that strip of bars. i appreciate trying to make the place classier, but it just doesn't mesh in that area.
then on to the strip of bars which i always got confused with on previous trips. the signs above the doors are not in the right order so i never knew which bar i was actually in o previous trips. this time i got it straight. they all have the same owner and the atmosphere and talent are about the same in all the bars. first went in bgs. about 10-15 customers already there which makes it seem crowded as it is a small bar. there were some hotties but they were already taken by the early arriving japanese, so i just chilled and watched. bought a couple drinks for a so-so girl, but wasn't feeling the vibe so went next door to eric the red. hotties there as well, again already taken. saw a girl i barfined last time and bought her a few drinks. she has an amazing body(posted a pic back in oct) but her performance back then was lacking. plus she is a first class bullshitter, bordering on being a compulsive liar. i understand a bargirl lying about some things, like minimizing the number of dudes she's fucked or lying about filipino boyfrinds and such. thats all part of the game. but this chick says she is a nursing student, says she lives in the diplomat hotel, says she has been so many places travelling, lies about being chinese and many other lies about nonsense that there is no reason to lie about. all the shit she told me just doesn't add up. her co-workers confirmed these were all lies. anyways, she says she has 4 guys supporting her, which is probably a lie as well, but she does have a smoking body so i guess it is possible. anyways, if any of you mongerers are one of the 4, beware.

thunderdome does have unreasonable barfines. you can bargain, btw. filipino customers usually come in groups, so i suspect sf hit the early hours of silver dollar (the dregs most often) and then showed up early at thunderdome before things kicked in. correct me if i'm wrong.

Sleepy Floyd...You just finished what i wrote few minutes back in the Manila thread...Sun flower bar probably would be the most hyped up bar in Cebu with a place which is closer to hell than a cockraoch that would snif in your pants when u sit on those chairs.

The guy who owns it now is a retired american. He doesn't appear all that bright...I think that is one of the problems with these guys that have more money than sense. They think that owning a bar will be easy. They don't think about all the expats that came before them that managed to take a successful business and drive it into the ground

I have written a while back that the "Best Kept Secret" in both Jaguar and Arena is to go very late at night after 12 am and when the bar closes at 2.30 AM....everything becomes unofficial and you can pick up almost any girl you liked during your stay.
Its actually reverse than other bars, for in other bars you go early to pick up the best talent but in these two bars, the quality is so high that the left over are worth the catch. You will see around 50 girls going to home alone after 2.30 AM.
All you have to do is just stay at the bar counter at the entrance and pick up the girl you liked and ask her directly or get hold of a mamasan.
When i became a frequent visitor to Jaguar and refused to leave even after 2.30 to watch all eye candies at play :) figured everything goes cool after the official hours.
You might have noticed a red sofa at the entrance of Jaguar, you can sit their and watch all the action without been bothered and the girls will come and sit beside you and chit chat etc.
If you plan to stay more than one week, i recommed using the going late approach to these two bars and at visiting more than 2 times continueslly so that you will feel the vibe of the place. I can bet you will get a better deal...good luck

I'm back in Cebu until mid July-- I'll spend most of my time out on Camotes island-- I'm posting this from there using a Smartbro usb pay as you go- slow, better than nothing. As reported elsewhere, (Sun Star, here on this board) Egypt & Bounty bars are closed up & they were dark when we drove by. A girl I know who used to work there says a lot of girls out of work. Sun Star reports the licenses have been revoked by the mayor of Mandaue. There's a 3rd bar in the complex, Coliseum, almost finished, that never even got to open. These bars had some pretty fancy decoration & some foreigner owners (like the guys at Cadillac Cafe in Mactan) got an expensive lesson in doing business here in the PI.
Speaking of Mactan, I have a place there when I'm in Cebu, & frequently drive by Maddogs & Jungle bar/disco. Stopped to look in a few times- no customers- Maybe the wrong night or too early.
Went by Mermaid a few times- lot's of girls, usually- uncomfortable seating, but nice layout to watch the dancers. 50 peso (I think it's 50) entrance fee, with no signs at the entrance to advise you of that entrance fee. Having had experience of mongering in both countries, I agree there are some big differences in the quality of hotels, prices and great food. Thailand wins hands down. I also agree there are maybe more beauties to be found in Thailand, though you don't have to look too far to find stunning Filipinas too.
However, for me, the very clinical attitude of the TGs and their limited fluency with the English language, dampens the experience a lot. TGs simply don't LIKE farangs (foreigners). End of story. Their culture is vastly different from ours and their language impossible to learn.
Filipinas are much warmer and more natural than TGs. I really like the GF experience, no matter that it's a pay for play arrangement. I think these girls are just fantastic. And very pleasant human beings, just trapped by their location and circumstances. I treat them with respect and have always had a great experience because of that.
After having been to the Phils and after having spent time in both Angeles and Manila, I don't understand why mongers who have a choice prefer it over Thailand. There's no comparison in my opinion. Thailand wins hands down!

My first impressions of Eddies Hotel were very positive, the staff were welcoming and booking in was hassle-free. I had booked a superior room on the ground floor via AsiaTravel (because the hotel website is a bag of crap) and got a 10% Asian Escapades discount, paying 2130php (Ģ30) a night. I had read that Eddies may discourage girls staying overnight, others had said they charge a supplement since the extra for double occupancy was only 150php (Ģ2.50) a night, I decided to book that to avoid any possible issues. In fact I detected no issues about lady guests at all several punters and their GFs used the dining room for both dinner and breakfast. There were quite a few locals dining too nobody batted an eyelid.
The bar area tends to be used by people whore dining, not a drinking spot really. Prices reasonable, 50php for San Mig Light. Perfectly acceptable standard of food, certainly adequate for breakfast allow 250php per person for that.
The hotel has wi-fi throughout, though there isnt a PC, so youre knackered if youre not toting a laptop. Plenty of Internet cafes nearby though.
The room was large, with 2 queen sized beds, good sized walk-in shower (suitable for 2 or 3 people) Aircon worked well, no fridge though, cold drinking water supplied via a Thermos. See pics attached.
The BIG plus for Eddies on F. Manalo Street is its got location, location, location just a 100 yards away are a dozen girlie bars on Mango Ave, 2 of which I really rated
though in just 5 nights I didnt manage to work my way through them all. I am back in July and will use Eddies again.

Well I tried Casa Gate 3 for the first time after reading reports here and on the advice of the cabbies. My most recent cabbie told me that the girls at Casa will provide good service (won't leave early) and are cleaner. Couple of notes on some of the reports below.
2 years ago I stayed at Eddies. The wifi was coming from the lobby area, so I got a room as close as I could to the lobby area. It was a pain in the ass because I was actually trying to get onto ISG to read the reviews of the different bars that I had noticed were just a couple of blocks away. The signal was so week and my brand new laptop was being a pain, so had to keep going downstairs to try to connect to the net.
I learned my lesson and bought the Bro from Smart, so I could use my laptop just about anywhere. Eddies also had a computer set up in the cafe that you could use for a few minutes for free, to check emails and such. I hated having to limit myself to only hotels that offered wifi, much more freedom with the Bro. Others members have said it did not work well for them, but it was fine for me.
Don R, I have found out that all Pinays lie, I just expect and accept it now for what it is. I have some lady from the Cebu area that I have translate all the Cubaun, Tagalog and "text"slang for me. I just email her the messages I want translated, and she does returns them in a day or so, very professional. In return, I said load via Chikka.

reading through, sounds like alot of great posts on ayala mall and mactan as good hotel adjacencies. so which one of these areas are better for my desired mix of:
1. being accessible to the dia girls i've corresponded with
2. being near lots of cuties walking around
3. proximity to strippaz
4. being near other activities. swim pool / beach etc (i don't want to be knee deep in mongering. just making it one of several pastimes)

well, first of all, give us a review of your hotel + misc. in borocay. any luck hitting on gals on borocay?
second, you gave us a budget, but didn't give us a time frame. that would have helped. nevertheless....
okay, find one of the hotels located near or around ayala. mariott is closest, but usually double the 3000 you mention.
unfortunately, you won't be near a beach and i'm not aware of a hotel with a nice pool in your price range. i'd suggest angeles or subic, but you already wrote that you don't want to be knee deep in p4p.
if you find someone who looks good in a bikini, there is the 90 min boat ride (from pier one near fort san pedro) to tagbilaran, and then a short ride to alona beach. that is an overnight trip and well worth it. search for "ocean jet".
or you could go to the (mostly man-made) beaches / resorts on the south side of mactan. they have day rates and a gal will enjoy it. overnight is expensive. there are local beaches that are free, but i seem to remember that spamhog informed that you might find a floater. (don't ask)
i find the mactan resorts a bit too artificial and expensive, but they are nice in ....in an artificial way.
other activities:
tops (mountain overlooking cebu) at sunset. take a girl! bargain with the taxi driver.
st. nino cathedral. / carbon market if you can withstand the crowds / fort san pedro. (these three are near each other).
the fresh fish restaurants out near the lapu lapu statue.

Got Married myself in Cebu, License from Lapu-Lapu. Married at the courthouse. The lawyer said tonight or first thing in the am. Went back to the hotel to wait for the call. Had a recent business trip to Cebu and stayed at Crown Regency in Mactan. Good accommodations, hotel has large rooms, kitchenette, microwave, free internet, pool, fitness center and an excellent breakfast selection. Somewhere in the range of a 3 to 3.5 star hotel. They also have free airport transfer coming in and going out. Rate was $55.00 a night; one (un) interesting note was this neighborhood Rooster who crowed for what seem like every time I entered my room. Only time I managed to get a break from my stuffy group was to visit Ramos Street but it was too early so I could not see much and had to get back for conference calls.
Not much of a mongering report so you can stop reading here but I linked up with a Cebuano I met online who told me she was a virgin but turned out to be just a little white lie but she was quite tight. Could only meet her at night as she had to work during the day as did I so that arrangement was fine. After reading all the horror stories of guys meeting these girls online I was kind of leery to meet this chick. To her credit though, aside from the virgin comment, she turned out to be quite an honest lady, never asked for anything but after seeing the ghetto she calls home and her shop where she works, Id say she has some character to toil like she does every day for the kind of salary she is forced to accept. Like most of these girls she is looking for her way out of the slums and I think she would be a good wife. If only I was looking for one of those.
The last day I was there we did get to go out and see some of the sights. Met Lapu Lapu in the park dedicated to him and was pestered by a young boy, saying hey give me one peso. I've been in Boracay for a week now, 2nd time. Given that everyone is back in school and the winds have shifted + more rain, its low season here and very quiet. One would think that as this demand level drops and the supply remains the same it'd be fruitful hunting season.-- but I have to say that I've yet to see any 'supply' other than the numerous ladyboys who troll the beachfront. The net of this point is: don't come to Boracay looking for play (unless you speak Korean, or bring your girl along). What one does have more than enough of while here is ample time to go with other past times (sailing, diving, kiteboarding, sleeping, reading, eating etc). <Skip the next paragraph to get more detail on Boracay
This is no big deal for me though, as I haven't gotten into the direct pay-for-play. Instead my modus operandi has been to explore the various massage parlours wherever I am (boracay, manila, shanghai, Singapore, hcmc, etc.) looking for a chica who turns me on. During the massage I found out that they offer 'take out' and so I arranged it w/ her <I think all hotels that don't have in-house massage will allow for in room massage from a take out and she came over. We had a few sessions in my room and it was very exciting because I know shes never done this, and it blows my mind that I'm the one who is makin' it happen. OK, so pretty tame stuff for this board, but guys. There is virtually nothing going on here. If you search for Boracay you'll find mentions of Charlh's Bar, Cocomango's, Summer Place. This is where you would want to go. For very very paltry options. They most certainly are there, but hardly worth it.
As for hotels, the most beautiful spot on the beach is Station 1 area. I like the Sur / White House / 2 Seasons type smaller hotel with immediate beach in front. Pretty reasonable rates too <usually 3, 500 or so . If you want the American style hotel with faux character and complete isolation then go for the Shangri La. Unless your an avid diver, I recommend no more than 4 nights or so here. That's why I'm headed to Cebu in a few days!

Most bars now are all inclusive. The Lone Star used to be quite a treasure for great service in bar (by all) and a bar-only barfine. They changed the policy a few years back. The policy change, according to one fatass mamasan was "because the girls were getting ripped off". I don't doubt it. Of course the Korea boom also may have had some influence.
I still like Lone star, but it's not the same. And it has an added demerit in that it's a long dark walk from the strip of Mango bars.
Tha bars in Cebu are more diverse and you find different policies in different places. Does Gecko's still exist? Go there and ask for advice from the old alcoholic expats. They know the score.

Yes, Privacy is an issue in cyber cafe's in Cebu, but their are cafes near nursing college and around main city areas where, their are cubicles for private chat but the cost per hour of using it is high and when she comes to know that, she may ask money from you and then the whole cycle of money asking may start....but it depends upon girl to girl, she may ask for it or not.. so try your luck :)

i have been to cebu 6 times in the space of 4 months. thanks to this site, i learned about arena. the top end ktv place. i am regular there with great experiences and some eye opening events too. will write on arena in another report with my hot tips!
now i want to write about a story about another place i frequesnt in cebu. jaguar. a bit louder than arena and more clientile. quite a few american guys tend to occupy the front rows by the stage and get lots of gropes from the girls dancing. ok, if its your thing. not for me.

each time i visit cebu now. i just meet up with her. she is working again now (her choice). i will never know what it is like to have sex with this girl. she still has the best legs ever but after that horror night, i want to treat her in another way. she gets upset with me that i am such a playboy. she actually wants me to sleep with her but i just can't.

Accomodations: Stayed 1st night at Diplomat but it just felt a little too downtrodden and got out of there, moving to eddie's where I got the deluxe type room for under 1900 (just 500 more than diplomat, but worlds better for me) booked through asiatravel.com or one of those (just google eddie's hotel cebu and these discount reservation sites will pop up). Eddie's felt clean, had a more comfortable bed, had FREE lobby/coffeshop WiFi for my netbook, closer access to mango, and even walkable to the northwest airlines office as well as ayala center mall. (I don't necessarily recommend walking due to the smells, the heat, the danger of oncomming traffic. But I like to walk and experience street life).
So I have 2 big shout outs for cebu.- the first being my experience at papillon (in the middle of mango area) where I had zero pressure (in spite of being 1 of only 2 customers there), and was greeted by ivy who joined me at a table before I layed my eyes upon THE sexiest cutest big tata chiquita. Her name was Hope (perhaps bestowed by Bill Clinton himself? ) and I had to had to have her. We hit it off really well in the club and I got great feel'ies w/ her and I knew she was good to go. And so we went. Outside of her there were about 12 to 15 girls, only 3 or so that I was really into. (weeknight at about 10pm). Next door to the left (dimples? Or something) there were about 25 girls, and alot more good lookers. I think Papillon isn't doing much business, but do check it out and look for Hope. It's only next door from bigger/busier spots. Also went on over to Lone Star and in spite of the girls being pretty friendly they (10 to 12 girls) were very average looking, and too young for my taste (I like at least age 23 or so). My 2nd shout out was for a Eddie's hotel recommended massage place called Koko's.- don't let its location (in the same Mango building as Hot Rod) fool you, this place is a legit massage place. I've had massage from at least 50 girls in the last 10 years, and Levy was outstanding (top 5 for sure). This is not a 'flirt' massage. Levy does deep deep massage, is very in tune with your body, very consistent pressure.- enough to put you in a daze. Not asleep, not awake. Somewhere in between oh, and did I mention its only 250 pesos ($5) for an 1 hour body massage? Koko's pampers you. Taking your shoes and giving you slippers; dark and professional massage beds; Enya type music piped in; they wash your feet before getting started; and they even wet towel your body when finished so you don't walk out all slippery.
Disco wise went to Julianna's on a Saturday night and Pump on Sunday night. I'm a Yank in his late 30's, and at Julianna's wasn't into the music (hiphop) and the crowd (early 20's). But there were chicks in there for the taking. And so I took one. Kicked her out the next morning for 200 for cab and 200 for her Jollibee breakfast. Pump I liked a bit better, as the crowd was more diverse and a bit older. But I was tired and didn't make a move. I haven't checked out Loft or Sunflower or wherever yet. Daytimes I spent alot of time at Ayala Center Mall.- large, modern, air conditioned, great for people watching- and WiFi available at a number of places (I was found in Joe's Coffee on 2nd level most days). Ayala was an interesting ecosystem of (mostly) aged rotund white men wearing youthful tee's, shorts and sneakers paddling through the mall with petite chiquita bananas. Or 'interviewing' them at various coffee shops. Robinson center (near Mango in the big traffic circle) was like Ayala, but the men were even lower end. <Sorry guys, I'm just giving an unbiased unfiltered report here and no doubt one day I too will be aged and rotund
Touristic wise, Fort San Pedro (tedious) and Magellen's Cross (uninteresting) are right by the Santo Nino Church. You might as well stop by all three so when people back home ask what you did in Cebu you don't meet their answer only with silence and a shit eating smile. I dug the church. Especially the numerous oil paintings adorning the walls depicting various Spanish Friars from the centuries of the church existance. I skipped Mactan (was beached out after many prior nights on Boracay) but you'll find reports on the beaches on the forum if you search for it. All in all, I dug Cebu. Much preferred over Manila due to its slower pace, more laid back attitudes, much better traffic situation, and seemingly (comparitavely) lower level of (visible) poverty.

Now I want to write about a story about another place I frequesnt in Cebu. Jaguar. A bit louder than Arena and more clientile. Quite a few American guys tend to occupy the front rows by the stage and get lots of gropes from the girls dancing. OK, if its your thing. Not for me.

Nadunggan nako nga ang usa sa tulo ka Aids victims patay na, said Durinda Macasocol, the assistant head of the City Epidemiology Statistics and Surveillance Unit of the city health department.
She said the two other AIDS victims are undergoing counseling by government doctors who advised them not to engage in sexual anymore to prevent the spread of the dreaded disease.
The health officials said that the HIV is a lentivirus that can lead to AIDS, a condition in humans in which the immune system begins to fail that will cause death.
Sexual contact is the primary mode of transmission while other causes include the sharing of needles.
Having multiple sexual partners and having unprotected sex with someone who is infected with HIV is also one of the causes of AIDS that is why the health officials are urging those who are not familiar with the sexual habits of their partners to always protect themselves by using a condom.
It was reported that women can be easily afflicted with HIV from men because the reproductive tracts of young women are prone to injury during sexual engagement increasing the risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections and HIV.
A recent study showed that only few of the women commercial sex workers have the courage to assert their right to be protected from risky sex by convincing their partners to use condoms during sex.
Some sexually transmitted diseases can cause pelvic infections that may lead to scarring of the reproductive organs, which can result in an ectopic pregnancy a pregnancy outside the uterus and infertility for women.
The STDs can be passed from a mother to her baby before, during, or immediately after birth. The health experts believe that having an STD that is not AIDS increases ones risk for becoming infected with AIDS.<Philstar July 05, 2009>

Not really true, I have many asian friends and they bang away all day/nite like rabbits.
Real reason girls like the asians (especially the Japs) is that they love to spend money and tip way over what we do. In the end, its mostly (not all) about the money.

can someone confirm these BF prices. The impression I got from reading the Cebu thread was that downtown is more sleazy/dirty area and generally the bars/drinks and barfines should be cheaper not more than the ones run by expats in nicer locations?

Pensiones and Apartells are almost the same thing, the big difference is they are more likely to rent by the month than a regular hotel and few have maid service. Most Pensiones are kind of ratty and apartelles can be as well, that is why they are cheaper, but you really have to look for yourself to be the judge of it.
Girl friendly of course, some have a guard outside, just make sure you treat him right.
I will also take a stab at answering your question re bar fines. Those places that do not cater to Foreigners (westerners) or Japanese have lower bar fines, lower quality and lower standards all around. Their usual clientel is Filipino, doesn't mean they are low life, just cheaper, however, if you walk in, they may charge you more just becuase they can get away with it. I'm talking about a lot of the smaller places you might find between Jakosalem and colon that are likely not mentioned by guys on this board.

I have a few quick questions maybe some of you expats or frequent travelers can help me with. I am traveling on a small budget, but not too small! After all, I am a musician so you know I don't have that much money haha!
I plan to stay for a few days in a really nice resort, as in the Shangri La for instance, but only for a few days. Then I plan to move to a cheaper but nice place (hopefully with a pool) for a while, and then maybe go native and get a shack with no electricity on the beach! Or a pensione perhaps.
So my questions are:
1. What's the best "Resort" type place, not really for mongering but that would be nice too, that offers the best Value for the Dollar. (for instance: shangri la or Maribago)
2. What is the best medium to nice hotel where mongering is totally ok and there is still air con and a pool maybe. (for instance: the Waterfront or Diplomat or Marriott or Alta seems to be popular)
3. Is there such a thing as the shack on the beach? In Mexico it was no problem, very nice but very bare bones, no electricity. But the view was perfect!
4. As I am a musician, can anyone reccomend a good Jazz bar (or any kind of music) where I might be able to sit in with the band and get some time behind a drumset?

DIC (hey, no offense, but we usually use acronyms here),
Starting out nice and then going native seems masochistic. I recommend start out simple and then splurge at the end of your trip. (how long is this trip?)
As for low cost places, you might be better off taking the 90 min Ocean Jet to Bohol and then to Panglao (alona beach). They have some simple and cheap places just a short walk from the beach. If you haven't done so already, go to "other areas" for more Bohol info.
Music? THe Filipinos love their music, so I imagine you can find something. I think Manila would be better for this sort of thing.
There used to be a bar with live music (mostly pop)in the Ayala mall (Cebu). The bar disappeard during the renovation, but I've heard it will reopen. Can anyone give an update on that? I've forgotten the name.

Hi,
I was recently in Cebu and stayed at the Marriott, see there web site for best deals, I paid $75/nite and one weekend nite free. Internet is a bit of a rip off $20 for 24 hours. Location is great 2 mins to Ayala mall.
Regarding music, I went to the Jazz and Bluzz club 4 time (10 min walk from Marriott) see Jorge at Marriot bar for directions. Now Jand B was great great. 2 groups alternating and joiners were common, singers, a USA guitar player and a Malaysian guy on the Harmonica. Lots of dancing and there are some dance instructors there to dance with. Some of the best jive I have seen in a long time. A must place. I took dates several times and they really enjoyed, one was a cute little KTV singer who just loved everything about the place. I think KTV get a little boring after a while.

1. Would recommend Tambuli East or for a little more privacy and cost, Tambuli West. Located in Maribago on the way towards Shangri-La, it is fairly isolated and has a decent beach.
2. Unfortunately, no medium priced hotels have a good pool. Even the overpriced Marriott has a tiny pool! My advise would be to stay in a hotel near to the areas you will be visiting and get a day pass for the pool at the Waterfront Lahug, which has the best pool in the city!
3. Sure there are nice shacks on the beach just like Mexico but you need to do some exploring. Head in either direction from Cebu city and you will find places that are owned by expats (or Filipinos for that matter)willing to rent out a nice beachfront place!
4. Don't know if they will let you sit in but the 'Jazz And Blues Club' in Lahug has nightly live music sometimes geared more towards dancing. Another place I like is 'The Wine Shop' located on Gorordo Ave. www.thewineshopcebu.com

I think the name of the bar was Rhadski's or Ratski's (SP for sure)? I have never been in the old bar, but will check out the new one.
Bar-Fine comment. The question of bar-fines in Cebu seems to come up weekly about how much and which bars offer all-inclusive bar-fines. Has anyone ever posted an updated list of the bars in the Cebu City area and the prices? I know X-Man posted a very useful map to the Mango area bars a few months back but I don't remember seeing a post that summed up the prices. Can someone post a link if it exists.

Can anyone tell me if this place is uptown or downtown and about how far and in what direction from a know landmark so I'd have a better clue if I need to locate this place on my own.

I think you are going to the right country if you like music. It is a fair statement to say the Filipinos are the most musically talented people in Asia and probably in the top 5 in the world. In every Asian country i have visited most of them will import Filipino talent to sing/play in the high end establishments.
That is the good news, the bad news is I dont think Jazz is a Filipino sound. I do not have near as much knowledge or experience with music as someone like you, but i have been to a lot of clubs in different parts of the Phils and i have never heard of something even resembling jazz. The most common are "sugary-sweet" love songs which makes up about 90% of all the music played in the country. The other 10% is top 40 stuff dating back the last 30 or 40 yrs. I think the top 40 stuff is strictly played to bring in the foreigners.
You will have a great time because there are hard core music lovers everywhere you go but my guess is you are out of luck with the jazz part.

Never heard of banilad as I've not been to cebu yet but plan to arrive by years end. Is Banilad out of Cebu city limits or is it a small neighborhood within Cebu itself? My maps generally show only street names and some tourist spots, ex. churches, forts etc.

Is Banilad out of Cebu city limits or is it a small neighborhood within Cebu itself?
If you have the 'EZ Map' of Cebu, it is located in grids M1 and N1. Banilad is to the north and within the Cebu city limits. Cempark cemetery is actually in Mandaue. Another landmark would be 'Badgers' bar and Banilad Town Center. Hope this helps!

If you have the 'EZ Map' of Cebu, it is located in grids M1 and N1. Banilad is to the north and within the Cebu city limits. Cempark cemetery is actually in Mandaue. Another landmark would be 'Badgers' bar and Banilad Town Center. Hope this helps!

I actually read back over a year on this thread. I have a "feel" for it but was just specific on where it was located in Cebu as I can't find it on any of my maps even with the cross streets given. Unlike others, I do like to know where I'm going (or taken to), just an old habit I guess. Sometimes I also like to check places on my own, again an old habit.
But thanks to some PMs and Mr Sx and Mattrick, I at least have a better idea of the location.

Any of you guys fancy hooking up for a beer and exchanging war stories. I arrive in Cebu on the 22nd August, intend spending 4 or 5 days there before heading to CDO for a couple of days. Back to Cebu for another few days and then off to Angeles City before returning to Cebu. I have got dozens of dates lined up through DIA but I intend to be better organised than I was last time and make sure I plan a proper schedule for meeting them, rather than having them descend on me like a swarm of locusts, like they did last time. Saturday would be my last night of partying before I headed back to Canada. The wife, her brother and his work mate, and myself started at Earth Web Cafe in SM Mall. I must admit my lady and me enjoyed going to Earth Web for a few drinks a couple times a week. None of them had ever been to a big time bar/disco so off we went to Sunflower. I knew it was going to be an expensive night once we got to the door and seen the cover charge. What the hell, you can't put a price on a good time.
The lay out was different than what I'm used to. All the tables in rows with small aisles to walk between. It really isn't a place that's good for mingling unless you hang out at the bar or hop around from table to table. The waiters all stand in the front waiting for a cue to serve. With small flashlight in hand they follow your eyes up and down the menu. We started with a few buckets of San Mig. Well I'm ready to put it into overdrive and see how much these boys can drink. Let's try Jaggermeister. Not bad. Soon we were into the tequila, sunrises and straight shots of Jose Cuervo(always thought this shit was rotten, but sure provides a good kick). More buckets of San Mig. Here come the screaming orgasm shooters. In between the wife ordered sisig and my favorite, the jumbo shrimps to eat. Those are awesome when you're drunk.
It's almost closing time and we're pretty wacked. I like the system they have in place. Every time you order they give you the total for each round of drinks and you sign the paper. This way at the end of the night if you don't agree that you spent that much, the waiter will show you all your bills. My tab came to 6200p. I tipped him 1800p.
As we walked out the door I turned off and found another bar or what seemed like a bar right around the corner. The only thing is I didn't tell the entourage and they lost me. With about 20 minutes gone by brother's co-worker walks in. Wheres my wife and her bro?? They figured I pissed off and went to bro's workplace to get the egg truck to find me. When they showed up later everything was ok. Funny. 4 of us riding in the cab all pissed up. Only in the Philippines. The worst part was her brother and pal both got suspended for 1 week for being drunk. They had to work Sunday. Hey, I never twisted their arms to drink.

If by "safe" you mean is there any danger that your credit card data might be stolen, then I can tell you that both the shopping cart service and the credit card service I use to process the credit card transactions are both conducted on secure, encrypted websites, so your credit card information is secure.
If by "safe" you mean is there any danger that your credit card statement will show that you've purchased a membership to this forum, then I can tell you that the credit card charge will be made under another name (which I won't write here because I don't want it being found by search engines) that looks like it's a contribution to a charity.
If by "safe" you mean is there any danger that a law enforcement agency might force me to divulge your forum username, then the answer is no because I delete the shopping cart transaction data every few days, and that's the only connection between your credit card charge and your username. In other words, the credit card charge doesn't include your username, only the shopping cart database has this info, and I have total control over the shopping cart's database.
In addition, the forum's servers are located in Montreal, Canada, safely outside the USA legal system.

Filipinas are surprisingly shy, it is unusual for them to go alone to meet a foreigner they have never met in person before, they usually want a friend along for moral support if nothing else. I would say that first time meets with tag alongs like the friend are more of the rule. Now what you need to avoid or limit is her bringing the entire clan along for a free feast courtesy your wallet. This is more common in certain rural areas and with younger Filipinas, the family of course have legitimate concerns about what type of horny, axe murdering drunken he-beast you are but mostly they want a chance to freeload.

Except Mango drinks, for some reason Pinays love it. I guess they can not justify the $1.25 cost of the drink for themselves. But if you order if for them, they think you have a heart of gold.

You didn't say how large your sample group is, but I suspect coincidence. I've had it go both ways in both places.

i have read in a couple of posts on the forum about a place called "jonquerra." so one night i hop in a taxi and direct the driver to take me there. jonquerra, i learned, is a street in cebu and a certain strip on that street has girls ready, willing, and able. well at our destination, the taxi gets mobbed by a band of pinoy touts who are yanking at the door and trying to get inside. what the flip is going on? this must be the place. i have read on the forum that those westerners who come here do so with trepidation so i have the driver go a bit farther and i start to negotiate with the driver to have him accompany me. but his english is not so good and i alight from the cab a block beyond the commotion and begin to investigate for myself. i can't find anything on my own. so i move back slowly to the group of touts i had previously encountered. again they were all over me like a cheap suit but they promised to take me this "jonquerra" place. we all started walking together: six of them and one of me. the streets got narrower until we were in skinny alleys. i began to remember the trepidation that was expressed by previous westerners who counseled never to go to "jonquerra" alone. however the alleys were peopled with ordinary philipinos, walking, playing and living nearby so i did not feel alone. i was certainly vigilant and cautious. then we hit about thirty girls hanging out where the alley abutted on a regular thoroughfare called jakosalem street. i survived unrep001hed but i do not think that i was really ever in any danger. a mamason (pimpesse) named rose manages these girls. cars regularly stop on jakosalem st. and shoppers sort through the girls and make a selection. a fee is paid, the girl jumps in the car, and off to merriment they all go. i was there by myself for about 45 minutes talking to the girls, the mamasan, and the touts. some of the girls were resolute about not going with westerners but preferred pinoy, korean, or japanese "clients." i could not get the mamasan to go lower than 1000 pesos. i believe my bargaining position was weak in that i had come on foot and and had become too familiar with the mamasan. in any event some, not all, of the girls were really attractive and as i left in a taxi, the touts had their hand out looking for a finder's fee. i told them to get it from the mamason and off i went into the night for an adventure with my new friend. i made this trip to jonquerra by myself and i don't believe i was ever in harm's way. i was completely sober and always polite.

totally agree. scariest place ever when i was first there at 2 am one morning and i was with a 6'6" wingman who weighs around 260 pounds. however a few expats and locals have insisted that it is one of the safest places in cebu at night time. a westerner getting robbed or assaulted would attract the reluctant attention of police and business for everyone (mafia and police) would be adversely affected. other more experienced members will no doubt have their own view.
i think they were also trying to overcharge you. i paid 500 for a real cute girl just off the boat from bohol and she stayed from 3am until 9am. i am in cebu later this month again and will no doubt venture back to jonquerra at least once or twice. i just love the rough seediness of the place and it is a complete contrast to the other more comfortable ways of finding a companion for the night

like the USA south Los Angeles, the Bronx New York or Philadelphia's east side,And Cebu is just another world all together

and often is if you are too drunk, too careless or too foolish. But Jonquerra is not the wild west. You have people milling around there at all hours of the day and night all hustling to make a peso common for ANY area of the phils.
As soon as you enter onto the scene the bamboo telegraph goes off initiating an intelligence system that would be the envy of the CIA, some of the first people who find out about it are the cops. You see, all those hustlers pay a
"street tax" to the local barangay Captain, his underling "tanood" the Cops etc which works its way up through the chain to the Mayor himself.
They know who you deal with, what you paid (foreigners ALWAYS pay more)
and they are coming around for their cut later. You mention taxi drivers....you know how many off duty cops drive a cab? You know how many non police cabbies are police informants? It starts when you get off the plane Joe.
Anyhow, if somebody molests a foreigner (squeezes the golden goose) he has to answer to the chain of command that wants their cut and will double tax him or them for their folly. Now it does happen, usually wandering 'Bugoys' (Hoods) who are alien to the neigborhood, that is why when strange faces show up everybody is on the alert. The pimps most of all, they want a chance to get your money before these guys can steal it.
Best way to handle the touts and hangers on is with a hand full of coins, pass a few out quickly while on the move and you get these flys away from you, you might even use Spamhogs old trick of throwing some coins or small denom peso notes on the ground and hoofing it while they scramble and fight for the lucre.

SH, what do you eat in Jolibee's? You suck it up and eat awful food, or sip on ice tea? Went there once and have no intention to come again.
I think I found the middle ground in Cebu, Gerry's Grill, don't know how big the franchise is, but there is one in Ayala Mall. Local food, but for example the grilled chicken at 225 PHP beats the hell out of Jolibee's Spicey Ckicken. The 3 of us got stuffed for 1000 PHP, and yes!, they have mango shakes.
I usually don't eat anything, I just get a coke and sip it or a piece of fried chicken and gag it down if I'm hungry, now what is worse is chow king. YUK!

Have you guys noticed this? When I was in Manila, most of the girls I met online agreed to meet that day, and we banged that night. In Cebu, it's taken me longer, mostly because of the friend that tags along. It's just a day or two, but still, it takes longer. I'm talking about regular girls, not *****s. Just a coincidence?

Not a helpful thing to say to a filipino/a. Very few are adults in the sense of emotionally mature by western standards. They are "simple", as they so often call themselves in profiles, that is to say, childlike. Each thinks she is the center of the universe, or at least of your world. I can offer you a newbie perspective, by that I mean I have been to Cebu a total of four times in the last few years. I normally travel to Thailand but Cebu is an interesting alternative. You can pick up girls in Jonquera for short time for 500, there are lots of posts about this if you look back through the thread. As for HIV I cannot comment on the rates of HIV infection versus infection rates in the clubs, but if you cover up it shouldn't be of concern (not that I always take my own advice :-) ). I have spent a lot of time on foot at night and found quite a few street walkers, though the quality is admittedly very poor and there were quite a few lady boys around. I never felt unsafe or threatened in any way at night time apart from my very first visit to Jonquera (see previous post) however my fears there were unfounded . If you are looking for an active street scene (other than Jonquera) then forget it, Cebu is not the place. I agree with you, I refuse to pay the exhorbitant bar fines in Cebu and then the girl will usually expect a tip on top and I just do not pay those kind of prices. If you want a LBFM try some of the free dating sites like DIA, you can line up dozens of dates ready for your arrival. I often do this and have never been disappointed. Do bear in mind that the girls on DIA would never class themselves as hookers, but they will still expect you to "take care" of them and help them out financially. Remember many of these girls are dirt poor and a little financial help can go a long way. If they stay the night I usually give between 1000 - 1500 depending on the service. On my last visit I met a girl from DIA who was 18 and claimed to be a virgin. She didn't want to stay with me originally but after some perseverance she agreed to stay the night. She later admitted that she had lost her virginity to a Pinoy but that I was her first western guy. Service wasn't brilliant and I gave her 1000 in the morning after breakfast. I've looked at a map of Cebu recently and recall Jonquera st and Jakosalem st are parallel to each other running north-south and don't intersect. As the maps perhaps don't show any alleyways and only large st, I'm assuming these 2 street are connected somewhere. My impression is that the Jonquera scene starts at the corner of Jonquera and Padilla st. or perhaps I was mistaken.
Anyway, from what I gather, ST here is 500p and some had suggested LT was 800p?--but don't know what time they start letting ladies got LT for that price.

I was in Cebu off and on for about 2 weeks in June early July. I had been to to Jonquera many times 10 to 15 years ago and was keen to see it again.
In the old days it was called the basket ball court and the couart is still there if you get out of the taxi and walk around. I did the walk around, better way to see the chicks that from the back seat of the taxi. One of the boys got me a beer (one of him) and I sat and watched the comings and goings.
I picked 2 girls during 3 visits, Short time P600 with a sweety from Cagayan, next was all nite for 900 for a sweety from Camguin island, both girls were 18 years and new to the trade. I had a gas with both of them and tipped 200 or so as well. Perhaps not as many gals here as back in the 90's but still good and safe.
I stayed mostly at the Marriott, no problem for visitors, often no sign in just a wave at the desk. Several dates joined me at the pool the next morning/afternoon. Good fun. SharkThere seems to be a disconnect or a distinction to be made between Jonquerra the street and Jonquerra, the streetwalker district. On a recent post someone said that the streetwalker district used to be called the Basketball Court. Perhaps the location changes from time to time owing to local issues. The girl that I spoke to referred to it as Jakosalem and not Jonquerra. For all I know, there may be two streetwalker sites but I do not think so. The place I walked to from Jonquerra St. was through a maze of alleys to Jakosalem St. I would suggest trying to use Google Earth rather than a map find it. I would try to help but I am currently in Dau, Pampanga at an internet cafe and it is not available here. I definitely did not get the local tarriff and overpaid.
