I can only agree to what KK writes. One my one night on Burgos street in Manila I saw as many or more beautiful, slim and hot working girls than in all my trips here. You meet the occasional girl that are up for p4p. Yesterday on the street I met one that had that "I need a favor" slutty look. Turned out to be the best cock sucker in Davao. But still YOU are most often the person to approach the girls and sweet talk them. Like they quite not yet accepted the fact that they ARE willing to earn some money this way. And very cautious to what other people think. Not like in Manila where it seems like just an eye is what is required. The "angels" on the Toinko street, San Pedro, etc are pretty poor and look worn down many times. In addition often quite ill from STD and just standing there always. Went to Plaza the other day and all girls where quite old and to be considered options just to take that desperate look of your face when your go chasing some real teenage pussy. 400 for the massage/room and 1000-1500 makes those mothers more than happy. The quality of Plaza Roman is more more unreliable than the stock market right now.
I have maybe 10-12 number in my phone to Davao p4p girls, and to be honest I would say that only 3-4 really meet my standards. To big a ass, to saggy tits, the "are you done"-attitude, etc... But at least they come when you call and fuck like troopers. All numbers collected from plaza, the streets, hot legs, etc.

Having this said I just turned on my phone and have 11 messages waiting for me. Most likely ranging from ladyboys that want to hook you up with their 18 year old (female) friends and innocent school girls that just have to make the tuition fee, to the sweetest gf imaginable. To get laid here is NOT hard but forget the ways of the hard core p4p cities/areas. You need a little game to get in to the knickers of the real stunners. Or to spread heaps of money around, but then you are better off up north where all the province girls with looks AND flexible minds (legs) seem to end up. My advice is to go strait to the point. If you have a few you are dating and are happy with, but meet someone you would love to fuck without engaging in the gf-game, just present the option to help them out with school because you think the are "so incredible beautiful and attractive". Works surprisingly often if you have the slightest idea about how to package information. No one like to feel like a prostitute even if we all in some respect have to bend over for someone or something. If you get your kick from making girls feel like *****s you will have more success somewhere else.

Some days you just get lucky. As I was having a beer at one of my favorite bars the other night I got 3 invites within one hour. One waitress that I started to talk to and that studies in the same field I work. One medical student (chat mate) that just finished her tests and wanted some excitement and fun. And one third girl (chat mate) that was bored out of her head in her boarding house. No money involved. Just a lucky hour. Met up wit the last one 15 minutes later and made plans with the other two. Should have bought a ticket on the lottery as well that night. :-)

To party in Davao is a lot of fun in my opinion. Many bars and some night clubs that are loads of fun if you just hit them at the right hours. It has all been covered before. Easy to meet girl if you can get out of your bubble. The best option is to have a few girls ready. Invite the first one for a drink. If this turn out wrong (or if she brings out auntie/ladyboy friend) you move on to invite number two. This was naturally also the strategy on the "beer club night", and the four (non ISG) guys that met up had a great time. We ended up with three girls o age 24, 21 and 19. One guy is in love so he wanted to leave. :-) Two of the girls that turned up where pure stunners in my opinion. Slim, smart, fresh, pure. Wife candidates. Still dating one of course. Last stop was that sea food restaurant that goes 24 hours. Forgot the name. SML and fish soup at 5.30 pm. Yummi. Even here and at this hour (and state) it was quite easy to meet a girl. A 26 year old mother of two. Slim. Half Chinese. Wealth and quite tipsy. Very beautiful. Drove off in her car. Never replied to my text message though.

So long for now!

Thanks for the reality check that Davao is not so hot of a P4P city. I've got a friend who went there a few years ago after reading all the glowing reports by GE about the fantastic P4P action.

Needless to say, he was disappointed for the 2 nights he was there. He actually met GE to get an explanation. GE just shrugged his shoulders with his palms up as if to say "sorry, this is it." My friend was so enraged he actually lobbied Jackson to have the Davao thread removed from ISG.
Come on Dildo Danny, be fair, I think you can also thank GoodEnough for his opinions about Davao P4P, which are similar to mine. Contrary to what you say he says, GE has consistently said Davao is NOT a big P4P city.

GE has said: "I've said before and I say again that if you're looking for a wild P4P scene, there are other, better places...." (13th Aug). And again, on 18th May GE said: "As I've said many times, if you're looking for P4P bars, and that's your primary interest in the country, then Davao is probably not for you." [Both items on the DS Davao Forum -which I do read!]

So DD, just check the facts and what GE actually said before rushing to post!

I don't think I've ever read anything from GE that wasn't true. Maybe your friend was letting his imagination run wild.

GE is usually writing about opportunities for picking up regular women and you usually need more than two nights to get things going. I've had good success in Davao.

If it wasn't for GE, I might never have ventured down to Mindanao.

If I'm not mistaken, ISG board is about "meeting woman for sex". I realize p4p is a common theme, but some posters seem to think p4p is the only kind of woman that gets discussed....not so!

Dear X. Thanks for the kind words. I think I've been rather consistent in saying that, if P4P is your thing, then Davao is probably not for you. As you and I, and many others know, while P4P does exist here, it's much more prevalent in other cities including both Manila and Cebu.

GE's post are informative and accurate in my experience. I have found Davao to be great for p4p, although some may not want that posted on here.

DD: I suggest the problem is not Davao but your friend. He stayed all of 48 hours and decided the p4p scene was lousy? So lousy he wanted the entire folder deleted? Sounds like an incredibly self centered individual. Dare I call him a loser? Likely has no game, hence only hard core hos might consider doing him. The beauty of Mindanao is the wobblers, girls who straddle the line between good and bad. The best p4p is generally with NON hookers but poor girls willing to sleep with a visitor they find attractive for "taxi money" or gifts.

YMMV applies EVERYWHERE. He sounds like the type that should stick to Pattaya where everything is point and click.

Ha, ha, great post HG. You show great eloquence in the wording of your portrayal of Mr. "loser". Well done.

But my real admiration comes from you coining a new word in my lexicon. Wobbler....bless their wobbling hearts.

My last visit to the Philippines had a strange twist. The usual p4p girls, one definite wobbler (being cared for by an 80ish grandmother), but then there was one very hot mid. class girl with a decent job, and one lady whose career allowed for a three bedroom apartment, maid, driver, auto, etc. The later dug her heels into the back of my thighs so hard I had bruises. Pubic bone bruise as well, thank you very much.

(Oops, two of three non p4p ladies described were first met online. I can't believe there are still guys at ISG who say that this is a "waste of time".)

Two pictures (not recent).

One I met online and had in my bed three hours after meeting her at Victoria mall.

The other a streetwalker near Mandaya -- had in my Casa Leticia bed 15 minutes later. Her sis was pretty hot too.

Which one is which? And how bad could Davao possibly be?

Well Dildo, Jackson must have thought it worthwhile so why not direct your question to him? After all, it's his board and presumably, he thought the decision was justified. I'm still waiting for your first substantive contribution to either one of the boards. So far, all you've done is make insipid comments on the posts of other people who actually do make contributions.

Thanks for the post Dildo. I've never paid much attention to the game of golf, guys chasing little balls around. I was still in elementary school when the event you mention took place.

It took me a while to figure out what you were on about. Oh, MY pants? They are shorts, not bell bottoms. Since you were fixated on my attire, I can't help but wondering... Did you notice that there was a naked woman in the picture?

BTW, I'm not comfortable sending pictures of my trousers to men, so please don't pm me.

Have a good day Dildo.

Those plaid pants look a little like what Johnny Miller wore in the U.S. Open about about 35 years ago. Are they bell bottoms too?

Since Davao is no different than any other town in Phils with respect to the ease of picking up regular girls, why does it have not one but two threads devoted to it? What's next, the Agusan del Norte thread?

The opportunities are fairly limited but they do exist. You can go to Roman Plaza on Cabaguio Rd. during the day and use the massage service or pick up one of the girls and use the short time hotel in the back. I'm told it's very clean and secure though I've never used it.

The other suggestion is to spring free for just one night and hit some of the other P4P clubs--Hot Legs 1,2,3 and others--and get some phone numbers for daytime contacts. Then you can make your own arrangements to hook up as needed in one of the short time hotels.

GEThanks for the tips.

I tried the Roman Plaza yesterday (late morning). Got ushered around the side by a security guy. There were about 5 or so very average thirtish girls and a very cute, as it turns, out 22 year old. Needless to say, I took her. She said it was only her third day there. Which I believe as she did not know her way around the darkened room complexes. The room was large, clean and also had a big spa. She feined that she was only a masseuse ha ha. Anyway, the deal was 400 p for the room for one hour. I assumed I had to negotiate the rest. So I said I'd give her 600 p for a nice massage. Anyway after a bit of encouragement she said that she would do the business and her initial reluctance I put down to her having her last day of 'mens". Anyway, once I said that it would not worry me she was a willing participant. Full on GFE. I was in a hurry and overpaid with a 1000p that I chucked in for the friendly service. I will try to be a bit more hard nosed next time.

My ratings:

Body 7.5
Face 7.5
GFE 8
The rest 7.

Only being here (Davao)for not very long, I get the impression that there are many many very nice girls available if you are willing to persevere. When I'm without my gf, I get a lot of the usual 'foreigner attention, and it would be easy ti hook up with shop assists and students.

If you are limited with time and need to bang as many girls as possible in a short time, Angeles with it's 'supermarket sex" would be better.

Now that I am living in Davao, I will explore the rest of what's available. Of note, someone said that one of the girlie bars was raided earlier in the week. But I have no further details. I will return to the Roman Plaza next week and see whats on offer.

Thanks for the report Steve. I haven't been to Roman Plaza in about five years and it sounds as if nothing much has changed. You've put your finger on the unique characteristic of Davao. It's got to be the easiest place in the world to meet "normal" (by that I mean non P4P) women. They're everywhere, and they're approachable more than 90% of the time. It can be a bit like a kid in a candy store who wants to taste everything, or at least it was for me for the first few months that I was here.

The problem is that despite it's enormous size, Davao is a small town and there aren't many of us foreigners here. So once you get known a bit, it's pretty tough to hide anything, and you're always likely to find someone who knows someone who knows your girlfriend. It's why on the very rare occasions that I do go out here, I'm always very cautious and very discreet. VIP rooms. P4P girls. Wham bam thank you ma'am and then home. On the other hand, I do travel a lot to other cities in Mindanao where the same rules do not apply.

In Davao, and more so in the rest of Mindanao, foreigners remains something of a rare commodity and there's that fascination with everything western that can prove a huge advantage.

Maybe we'll run into each other sometime at Henny's (De Bonte Koe) or one of the other expat watering holes/restaurants.

Enjoy your stay.

This last month I stayed at three places: Royal Mandaya Hotel, Hotel Galleria, and Casa de Habana. My assessment:

Royal Mandaya Hotel (www.royalmandaya.com) is handily located to central Davao on J Palma Gil Street. It is self-promoted as “the first premium hotel in Davao City”. Although built in the 1990s it has a strong 1960-70s feel about it! It was the most expensive of the places I stayed (2,900 pesos a night) but it just felt tired, vast and empty. No character. I lasted only one night there at this 161 room hotel. At that price I would expect internet cable or WiFi in the room, but not so. It seemed to be a 400 meter walk from check-in to the elevator, but I exaggerate a little. It does have a swimming pool and some great views of the city.

Hotel Galleria on Gov Duterte Street (hgadicor@info.com.ph ) is a 43 a/c room hotel including penthouse suite. My superior room, overlooking the swimming pool, was 1,400 pesos. I had stayed there a year ago, to be disturbed for most of the night by an air-conditioning unit going through its last gasps of life. Tried the help desk at 2am and again at 3am for fixing, and they walked in with a new unit at 7am! This was a sufficient wake up call for my partner and I to go at it again; very memorable! This time everything went sweetly, courteous staff, good restaurant/bar. But no WiFi in the rooms; but it is available in reception at a price. A better prospect is to use the internet cafes nearby (at least 3) with a small chance of chatting up some local lovelies. Also nearby are plenty of restaurants and Gaisano City (just 100 meters away). What is also nice about the Galleria is the small pool, with a small adjacent waterfall; but it could be better enhanced at night with poolside and underwater lighting.

Casa de Habana (www.casadehabana.com) at 29 Rizal Street is adjacent to the Habana ancestral home and very central to a lot of the local action. Casa de Habana offers very neat and tidy rooms, at a very good price. Room rates vary from 650 pesos for a single standard room to 950 pesos for double deluxe room. I stayed in a deluxe room on an upper floor, well away from the music and street noise below. With new partners I like shifting around a bit!. Casa de Habana is literally within 10 meters of De Bonte Koe European Restaurant, Chico’s Music Bistro and dance, SomePlace Else Restaurant and Claude’s Choisir boutique café, all on the Habana property. Just up the road on Rizal Street is the Rizal Promenade, and Club 183, and other entertainment.

In an earlier visit, April-May, I stayed for a period at Casa Ruby and lesser time at Las Casitas. I have reported on these places previously in this forum, but in summary:

Casa Ruby Pension House is a nice quiet, even homely retreat, which (certainly with its Blue Room) can give you the mongering privacy you may desire. Located in Marbini Street it is adjacent to the Circumferential Road, and not too far from downtown. Casa Ruby (www.casarubydavao.com) is small but your privacy is respected. Unlike the other places reviewed here I had a dedicated cable and wireless option to my room. But not all rooms have this internet set up. Prices are in the 900-1300 peso per night range.

Las Casitas is a new (less than 3 year-old) hotel in Rizal Street a few doors from Club 183 and the Rizal Promenade. I have stayed there a couple of times, preferring it to Hotel Galleria, which has similar pricing. Rooms were a little more cramped, but facilities newer and cleaner. There is a nice coffee bar downstairs with WiFi connection.

Week 1: Desperation, frustration and excitement. I fuck girls I would normally not buy a beer. Big girls, older girls, saggy tits, first class sluts. If they are clean and have some attractive traits I want to nail her to the sheets. Or if she is a non pro and swallows or/and takes it up the ass. Not to picky this week. And then naturally I meet the the regular old times "girlfriends" that are nice to sleep with, but in all honest not as exciting as some new pussy. In addition there is the ocasional suprises that you just fall over. A smile and a Hi followed by a "do you want to check out my hotel? ". A lot of party this week normally. And a few hours "work". All feels new and great to reexperience, even though this week tend to be more about quantity than quality. Normally on the soliders/blue every day. Beaches or just chasing pussy anywhere with some mate in the days.

Week 2: things are starting to fall in place. Some of the really pretty girls I have been attending on the chats or previous trips are begining to feel special after all the special treatment they got. Knickers off. Some days no luck so just fall back plans or girlfriend (s), but still bedding 1-2 girls a day and a few in the loop keeps Barba busy. By the end of week two I normaly have a few new potentials texting intensly and they guys at the short term hotels smiling at my returns. Normaly the "new girls" are stunners met in the malls, stores or nightclubs. I pick the ones I really like and walk up to them without hesitation. Rarely restaurant or bar staff since I tend to want to meet them when they normally work. By the end of this week I normally start suffering from severe pusy overdose and only focus on special experiences. If not special, I see no excitement or point in pusuing. Still normally at least one girl a day but sometimes the same as another day and most always something special. This trips theme came to be petit girls. 5 feet and 38 kilos. 4. 9 and 36 kilos. 5. 1 and 41 kilos. Can't have enoght of those tight little sweethearts. At least two wife candidates under 40 kilos on this trip. Wife candidate in the sence that we will keep in touch and meet again next time I get the opertunity to come to Davao. Other overdoses that normaly hits me like a wet towel by the end of week 2 are: . Driving my bike in hot weather and jeepney-crowded streets. Rice and grilled chicken in outdoor "restaurants". (Suggested cure: Hennys spotted cow amongst others). SM lights (try curing this with for example a glass of Hennys house wine). Stupid cab drivers. Ordering the same thing several times. Getting the ice cream with the rice. Texting 8000 messages a day. Especial replies to the "did you have you lunch yet? "-message. Load requests. "Can I bring a friend? ". Guys pushing fake Oakleys despite the fact I wear sunglasses. Balot horn honks. I choose to stop here. Most things about Davao is way better than home so no need to get carried away.

Week 3: Normally the last week in Davao. Ocassional days without sex. Just dinners, beaches and relaxation with friends and girls. Less party and less alcohol. Oh yea. And some "work". Maintanance of relations and just relaxing in the ones that was singled out as worth to keep alive. And the massage from my regular little massage and cock sucker expert. Also she is a 5 foot and 40 kilo petit cutie. Fantastic experience to see the cum shoot out of her nostrils after one hour of gagging.

I notice an increased amount of forigners down here. Many first class loosers and idiots unfortunately. To bad that comersials work. I'll shut the fuck up from now on. Davao sucks! Good for nothing. Forget P4P here. Do you read me G. E?

Some new places I tried:

The Indian rest at Damosa. Overpriced. Dry chicken. Out of stock. Warm beer on a Saturday evening. The entertainment would have been out of date already in the 80: s.

Hotel Regency Inn. Good and cheap hotel close to Gaisano. Get a room with windows. 1300 a night. Not a first choice for me but proved to be an aceptable option when all the rest where full. Free wifi in the lobby.

Bagobo House. Read above about Regency and change Gaisano for South Gaisano, I. E. Right in the middle of a lot of good streets. Not good but but some rooms are acceptable for the 1000 and something a room cost. Ongoing renovation is annoying though. No Internet.

Tower Inn. Looked like a shit hotel in my opinion. Smelly and dirty. I kept on looking.

The Italian restaurant at Quirino Street, just after Davaos Doctors hospital and before you enter Bankero Han bridge. Look to the left for the illuminated pizza sign. Well worth a visit. A nice collection of red wines and the only decent pizza I ever had in Davao.

By the way. Autoshop is dying from snobism and 183 is rocking! Venue is still Venue. De Bonte Koe is a great way to cure rice boredom. The jazz in the background makes the visit extra relaxing.

Bedtime.

Best from Barba!

I also stayed one night at this sterile and totally dead hotel. Never again. Grand Men Seng is cozy compared to this one, and that is NOT a compliment to GMS.

Great summary and analysis there Barba! And I loved your phased development: quantity versus quality in the first week, (until you get your rocks off), then moving to more selective quality later!

Yep, I agree with you that new pussy is more exciting. Bit like married life eh, gets a bit dull, monotonous and predictable. Nailing the bit on the side is a challenge and thrill!

Here are a few questions:
Short term hotels: What have you found, recommend? Im familiar with Queensland Lodge.

Takes it up the Ass??? What's the acceptance rate of that? I don't really push that but would like to try. And when I do try I meet a little resistance, as it were!!

You obviously have a good client management system: developing and maintaining internet chats, text and phone management, personal follow-ups. Any tips about how you do it?? Two phones? What do you tell them? That you are moving on? Shifting hotels regularly? Any embarassing re-meets? Davao is, I found a small place!

Cum shooting out her nostrils???!! Jez Barba where are you, or she, sticking it??!

What's the ratio for you of locally picked up new girls (Malls waitresses, bars, street etc) compared to your pre-arranged net-wooed girls and return bouts?

I loved your list of "overdoses"! True.

Well done! and after week three I bet you were!

Ohhh yes, I agree with you. Davao is a dull place, mongers should go elsewhere! Yea, right!

Barba.

Excellent report , both informative AND entertaining , the sign of a good report.

Think I will give it a "r.o.h.d" , not r.o.d.

rohd = report of high distinction.

Kong King of Reports.

Another very helpful report. Facts. If you want the facts its Kong. I said I would not mention r.o.d propoganda again , but geez some junk on other threads gets r.o.d. , Kongs factual report was worth a rod. Think ISG should invest in more relevant and reliable r.o.d. software or drop the concept altogether , best option to drop it , considering fatality rate of existing sofware.

Not so much quantity on this thread , but reports here are often of good quality and most helpful. Plus sometimes entertaining , eg Barba the Beasts recent one.

Thanks lads. Apart from the world financial crisis , your contributions made my day.

I wonder sometimes, if it's possible to somehow quantify the economic impact of the Davao forum on the economy of this city. I never much thought about this until I started to meet guys at De Bonte Koe whom I had never met before, with whom I had never corresponded, and of whose identities I was unaware, who told me that they had come to the restaurant--and several to the city itself--because of posts they had read from Davao "regulars" on this board, This of course started me thinking that for everyone I met, there may be another, two others, or a dozen, whom I never met but who decided to come here because of this forum.

Assuming that most guys who stay here remain for at least four or five days, and assuming that they spend at least $100 a day on average, the impact could be reasonably strong. Now just imagine that these guys average at least one girl a day and they're paying the girls who are in turn giving part of their hard-earned cash to their families and just imagine how many families--and how many individual Filipinos--may be benefitting from the largesse of of board members.

Maybe the city fathers here need to put up (dare I say erect?) a brass plaque to Jackson for his economic impact on the city.

I tend to always go to the ST hotel one on the back side of Plaza Roman. The taxi will enter a little driveway to the left of plaza if you are facing Place, I. E. Just before Plaza normally since you most often come from that way when driving there. A few levels of pricing but I go for the 300 peso rooms. Do not need the Jacuzzi (350) and I don't want to try anything less good to save 100 peso. As you mention, you also have Queensland (around 300 / 3 hours also) if your down south near Toril or Bungoyan. Next to Queensland, towards the city, you have a 100 peso / 3 hour place but its a shit hole in my opinion.

I saw commercials for Prince Court today. "From 195 peso" indicates ST is possible. Looked OK on the pictures. Tel: 082-225-8188.

Out of the ones I asked Id say that 40% accepted anal. But I ask far from all. Last two ones was my GF (ex virgin who is exploring it all) and one girl who needs to earn cash on the side. Not pro, just broke. I paid her 2000 for anal and to swallow. It takes a little bit of talent to bring such delicate matters to an agreement. I just try to be direct but at the same time show respect.

On the topic maintaining contacts I must say that without small reminders next to the girls name in my phone, I would be fucked. Just a small code for where I meet them and how I find them. I am very quick and direct in asking a girl for their number. Even if I just cruise down C Bank/Toinko and see a cute hooker I like, I have a chat and ask for their number for future contacts. Or if I see a sales clerk or just a girl that I find pretty. What can you lose? 9 out of 10 replies to a friendly text. To be honest I do not think the websites are the best if you wish to optimize your time her, I. E. Not waste any time with girls who will not get their knickers off. 1) the girls are often experienced when it comes to "the ways of a foreigner". 2) The photos never tell you the truth. Better to have a few nice girls from the chats that you are sure of and then spice up the every day promenades by approaching exactly the girls that fall in your flavor. I chat with some 10 girls (always changing) normally at the time and use the detailed info field for adding notes about the girls. Without this id be totally confused where I met them and what we talked about before. One name in the dating sites, one name on friendster, one in reality and another one on Yahoo. Can get messed up.

I keep two SIMs. Never mix business and pleasure. Dual SIM phone does the trick. And I try to reply in a nice and friendly manner to most of the texts I get. This is a main source of bonding, hence I take the annoyance and get into texting a lot when in Davao. But its crucial to use the excuses when required. "Out of load", "Tired", "In a meeting", . Just silence is never well perceived.

I had one quite embarrassing moment when I was dating a girl who's neighbor I dated the day before. Massive send outs on dating sites are not good since I found the girls sometimes register in groups of friends and relatives. And believe me they do talk here. Needless to say I did not get far with any of those neighbors, but I still keep in touch with one (very sexy with heavy boobs) and the other one actually surfaced today with a text that she would love to meet up tomorrow.

Id say that out of the girls I have sex with 30% are from websites. The rest I meet when I am in Davao. Normally just 10-20% are regular working girls, the rest are "normal" girls that I meet here and there. Websites are good but I rarely visit those sites when in Davao. The face to face meeting in malls and clubs normally gives a better ratio and more predictable outcome in my opinion. /Barba

I'm familiar with Queensland Lodge.

Takes it up the Ass? What's the acceptance rate of that? I don't really push that but would like to try. And when I do try I meet a little resistance, as it were!

You obviously have a good client management system: developing and maintaining internet chats, text and phone management, personal follow-ups. Any tips about how you do it? Two phones? What do you tell them? That you are moving on? Shifting hotels regularly? Any embarassing re-meets? Davao is, I found a small place!

Cum shooting out her nostrils? ! Jez Barba where are you, or she, sticking it? !

Yea, right!

I have just posted under the "Other Areas" Forum a report about Cagayan de Oro nightclubs, amongst other things. I compared it with Davao nightclubs.

I said:
Most of these (Cagayan) nightclubs have full nudity but it is not "in your face" as it were. All places, and some were mediocre, exceeded what I have seen on offer in Davao. I have been to Hotlips 1 and Hotlips 3. The latter I went to a few weeks ago and it was just crude and unrefined. One of the sequences on stage was a bathing scene, with one girl soaping the other, and herself. In the "show" I saw the girls complained about the cold water, then they needed more soap. They seemed to be in conversation and giggling with the girls at the back. And they had little raport with the miserable (understandable) audience. I get pissed off with girls who dance continually looking at themselves in front of the mirrors. Davao nightclubs are the pits!

Others may have a better opinion of Davao nightclubs.

Ah Barba, it's too bad, given my situation in Davao, that you and I could not have a night out. I would love to see you in action. I've never been smart enough, or perhaps interested enough to keep all the ladies straight and when I return home from a trip--to CDO, Zambo, Manila, or in the most recent case, Cambodia, I just purge my phone and start again on the next trip. It's just too much of a hassle to keep them straight and then I'm always afraid of the random text message popping up just as I ask my wife in Davao to bring me my phone cause I've forgotten and left it downstairs. One of the nice features of my dual sim (I think you have the same one I do) is that you can selectively block phone calls and texts, and this I do with great regularity.

The "shows" in CDO, and indeed in Davao, vary in their degrees of nudity depending on the attitudes of the police at any given time. I've been to CDO when nudity was prohibited for a few weeks, and then it all started again. Ditto for Davao. As to "refinement," I've never found any in either city in the clubs. This is not the Moulin Rouge or Crazy Horse or Lido in Paris. It's the Philippines, where refinement and sophistication are strictly foreign words and concepts. Personally, I do not see a great deal of difference between the two cities in this regard, and in fact the last time I went to Hot Legs (not Lips) with a friend I had a great time.

GE,

I read you Cambodia reports. I'll interigate you about the place next time we meet. Can't make up my mind if it's a place to visit or just another big Asian city with loads of hard headed women.

About the night out. Fortunately I keep coming back and back and back... I'll host a party next time and invite you. No vifys or GF:s, though. Strictly "business". ;-)

Cheers mongers!

Dear all

Can someone give me some advices for daytime fun in Davao. I will be there with my GF and while she is shopping would like to get laid. I won't have much time - so a ST hotel which provides girls or a massage parlor who offers some specials would be the best. Thanks for good hints...

SumartOk. Speaking from limited experience here in Davao, the one place that comes to mind is the massage place behind Plaza Roman on Cabagiou Avenue.

Taxi driver will know Plaza Roman. Just walk around the side, and a security guard will usher the girls out. Price for room (massage 1 hour) is 400p. Its up to you to then negotiate what you want. I've been there 4 or 5 times. It's a little expensive with the girls normally asking for around 2 500 for a full service. I now find my lovelies on the internet and go to a short time hotel. Much more fun and much cheaper. But given your situation, unless you can tee something up on-line with a Filipina that is actually on time haha, the Plaza Roman might be your best bet.

There are always one or two little cuties available amongst the also rans.

Anyway, goodluck!

...Plaza Roman on Cabagiou Avenue.Plaza Roman massage opens at 6 pm, and sometimes later. 1000-1500 is the going rate for full service. 2500 makes the girl very happy.

It´s a bit of a chance, but I can send you some numbers for girls to call and arrange meetings with if you need to see a girl before 6 pm. And if your a good guy of course.

I suggest you pick them up in your own cab and drive to the short term hotel next to Plaza Roman. 200-300 for ST rent of the room. If your the other side
of the river, towards Ecoland and Matina, your better of going to Queensland.

If you wish to get a choice I have some guys that can hook you up with girls. One is working in the ST hotel at Plaza Roman, so he can have her waiting for you. ;-)

The street/bar scene is more or less dead before night, but sometimes you can try any of the Hot Legs (or bars in that area) to get a girl. Quite a high risk that this mission fails during daytime though.

The third option is to get in to a cab and ask him to take you to a casa. If he is clueless you immediately change cab, until you get lucky.

Daytime mongering in Davao is not simple unless you have some numbers to call.

/BI've only been there in the morning arriving between 1000 and 1100. One of the girls said that they were open from 0600 AM? But maybe I heard her wrong.

The guard normally hustles up the girls, at least a half a dozen from around the back. Then I normally have to wait five minutes, while they go and turn on the power/lights to the building/massage rooms.

So what does casa mean? Brothel?

There really is an embarrassment of riches on the internet. Why bother with Plaza Roman I say. I met a real cutie this morning and took her to the short time motel next to Plaza Roman. She was 22 but looked 18. Usual story, had to stop nursing studies due to lack of money. A real gf experience! Fantastic body!

She's happy to see me once a week in future.

casa is normally just a house where they get a couple or more girls that you can choose from. quite often a skanky place, but this has it's appeal as well. be aware of ****d girls.

yes, pre set up dates is the way to go in davao. no brainer and the cost is the same or less. thats how i met all my "gf:s". the pros are barely a f*ck and forget experience in 80% of the cases in davao. not like the p4p scene in manila where quality pros seem to be in abundance.

but for a first visitor with no connections and just a couple of hours to get laid, plaza is maybe the most reliable option.

OK.

When I normally arrive out the front of Plaza Roman, as you face the building, on the right hand side of the car park is a security guard post. Just tell guard you are looking for massage. he will direct you down the walkway at the side of the building, maybe 20m. There is normally another security guard there and when he hears massage, he will go to the building behind Plaza Roman and usher out the girls. Most are pretty ordinary, but there is always one or two who are attractive You pick one and then, if it is in the morning, they normally have to open up for you. Might take a few minutes to get power etc.

Once in the room pay the orderly 400 p for room (1 hour). The girls will hustle for money so you really shouldn't pay more than 2500. If you can get away with 1500 or less well and good.

Again, good luck

Hi,

I got pm: d about the casas and think this is of general intrest. I went only 3 times, either for me or to pick up someone for my friend. The procedure was to go with a taxi to god knows where. Each time we ended up bringin a pretty girl away from a rather skanky house to the hotel. Not much choices but pretty girls. You could tell that they where not used to this. I remember one asked 500 and kept 300 (before my buddy tiped her). I was told there are casas wher you can stay for ST. Anyone tried this?

I am also interested in this option.

I will start canvassing taxi drivers - try and collect some intel.

The only problem is, I have fairly rapidly filled my 'dance card' with some nice girls.
My live in gf is also somewhat demanding and gets suspicious if I don't service her regularly. Oh to be 10 years younger haha.

Ahhh this is a great place!

Any of you long term residents of Davao know a good supplier of Viagra?

I am starting to chew through my current stock and was wondering the easiest way to resupply (or perhaps I should just stop bonking every day haha)

Can you just front up to say a Mercury Drug Store here and buy over the counter or do you need a docs script?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Viagra and Cialis can be bought in for example the drug store in Victoria. No prescription required. But they are expensive. Often more than 500 a pill when I asked around during my last trip to Davao a couple of months ago. Maybe you should try some alternatives.

Unfortunately, I've never found anyone here who sells the stuff on the street. I think the Mercury route will depend on which Mercury you go to and who waits on you. I've gotten it without a prescription but I had to bullshit for about 5 minutes before it was sold to me. I told the lady that I had a prescription back in the US but had forgotten to bring it with me. Conversely you can go to about any doctor here, pay him/her a few dollars and get a prescription. It takes about ten minutes.

Davao is NOT the place to get V. Prices are ridiculous and generic is VERY hard to find and still WAY overpriced. A 10 minute, $10, doctor visit solve the prescription problem but not the pricing problem. I must have tried more than a dozen places all over town.

Best is to bring it with you, but if you must get it in the PI Malate and Angeles seem to be the primary places where it is easily available from street vendors.

One could even take this one step futher and deduct that I do NOT claim to know much about Manila at all, but could already after one evening conclude that Davao is waaaaay behind Manila when it comes to P4P. So yes I know "so much", but it is still "NOT much".

Its amazing that some come here and offer so much insight with such little time in Philippines. Not that I am an expert but I think 12 flights and much travel around certainly gives me a little insight. Even having said that I still occasionally ask advice from time to time.

Now as far as Davoe is concern. There is action to be had here. There more freelancers than anything else but it can be had and had very cheaply. Now having said that. If you are really really on a budget this maybe the place to go because there is a great hotel in town that is very very good for P1000 a night. Also. Taxi can help find decent quality girl and you may want to research more if you plan to go the route of the block at the exchange bank.

NCCC mall especially has willing perticipants as well as sm mall. Yes manila is obviously a haven and much choice. However do not rule out Davoe. Of course AC is Disneyland and will always win hands down.

Given the context I assume I am one of the persons that amaze you.

Can't argue with your opinion but if you followed this and DS thread you would see that I generally provide information and not opinions. Hard facts, with numbers and contact information. Anyone that bothers to read the ROD :s will find examples. My personal experiences are just portrayed as exactly this – my own experiences and reflections.

I only have 8 trips to Davao and some 6-7 months there in accumulated "on the spot"-time, but I go around a lot. No time wasted in the hotels, except from the hours in the bed. Every day is packed with beaches, clubs, girls, putas, parties, restaurants, work, roaming on the bike, etc. It's just the way I like it. In addition I have people very close there that lived there way longer than this board existed. I perhaps provide a different viewpoint than other more senior board members that have their way of enjoying the city. Pick the sources of info that you can relate to.

In general I think a lot of people here have not so well founded opinions about others.

I'm beginning to understand the ones that PM:ed me that they just shut the f*ck up because they got fed up with the childish level on many of the “contributions” here.
So come on and drop the ego-thing and provide some nice and juicy stories for all of us out in the cold. The Davao threads are so incredibly dull right now.

hi all

spent afew days in davao recently and wil be back for many more. i have a good local contact and even he struggles with p4p.

the plaza is there, went at 2:00 pm guard took me back as it had been a couple of days i took 2, 1 was great the other was so loose it was the only pussy i ever had i did nt know i was in and inthe phils they are amazingly tight.

no girl or girl, the loose one ineediatly began the hurry up and come wail, i can seldom cum.

the other was worth a takeaway.

sorry no names, seldom care. cost 4000 no room fee. used 3 condoms they pissed and moaned i smiled and waved.

went to 2 karoake, and ended up spending 4000 1 nihgt and 3000 the second. i think i finally understand these places as i have now done 4 and never got more than an aching hardon.

phil guys go there because they can and because there are beuatuful, subservient women, there is seldom sex it almost appears to be undersired or innapporpriatte. seems wierd, love koraake for the fun but for getting laid, hmmm.

got numbers some chats but no relief.

davao does have astreet walking strip that the mayor allows, you have got to luv this mayor. my friend warned me of **** and i never cross that line. thee are some small bars of obviuso disrepute but not great. i would love to get some semipro numbers there as i am going to spend a lot of time there.

davao is a great city thogh and i look forward to returning there.

Barba, my comment wasn't meant as a disagreement. I just found your choice of words to be interesting.

I personally would prefer to be in Davao chasing tail than in Manila, but that's mostly because I dislike Manila -- the traffic jams, etc. If we look just a p4p, then Manila wins, no doubt about it. Even Cebu is far better in that regard.

Last time I was in Davao I spent most of my time with non-p4p women. The only exception was a street girl I picked up on San Pedro St. I don't find the go-go clubs appealing in Davao.

As for regular gals, I pulled two from 183, including an employee. I spent most of my time with a gal I met at Victoria Mall on a previous visit.

Ah, sorry X Man for jumping the gun (or whatever it´s called). I'll switch to decaff. :-)
Yea, the one night and two days I have been transfering via Manila was heavy duty compared to Davao. Rip off cab drivers, big, dirty, smart, expensive (compared to Davao), etc. The list can be made long. But f*cking BEAUTIFUL girls everywhere! I was sitting on Burgos street as advice by mr GE and just chewing away at my fingers. The pizza slize I had in my hand was allready passed down, but I did not notice due to all the 100% stunners walking up and down this street. Tall, big, short, slim - all was to be found, both when it came to girls and mongers. I saw one Chinese dude, maybe in his mid 70:s, that had two tall and slim girls on his sides. Super model looks and stylish clothes. So it's a must to spend time in Manila (and Angeles) some day. But all in all I think the provincial mentality suits me better in the long run.

In 3 months in the PI last time, I only had a pro one night in that was in Davao. Hookers just are not needed, if you put in a little effort, you will find plenty of cute 20 year old willing to pleasure you for dinner and a mango drink. (Every girl smiled big, when offered a Mango drink for some reason)

I found the hooker on accident, one taxi driver put his cell phone info in my phone, saying if I need anything. I forgot about it until one girl flaked on me, and I want some strange.

don't know the street but it is all streets around the central bank that have pick up girls at night.dcand4,

if it's not raining the girls are normally concentrated on the southern corner of tionko. if you go down torres you take a left right at davao city national high school.

if it rain they are normally right around the corner where the building provide shelter.

you will also see girls standing/roaming here and there if you cruise around the central parts of davao. more specifically the area you get if you let the streets quirino ave. , magallanes st. , c. m recto ave. and e. jacinto st form a trapezium.

at victoria there are also a few working girls. a couple where definitely doable but most often the victoria girls look quite worn down. once i was offered sex with a girl that looked like 12 at the passover at chowking. i was walking home at 4 in the morning and i replied "yea, right! ". then and older guy said "it's my sister. you can fuck her". i replied "young girl should be in bed sleeping, and you kuya should be ashamed for what you are doing right now". i'm not mr moral police of davao, just got very disturbed by this. she was all pimped up in her dirty and worn clothes.

while on the topic. i was once in mati with some mates and some girls. two "canos" (non of us americans but still canos) and four pinoys. we where hanging out at a beach, or rather a string of simple beach huts/houses aligned on a simple promenade going out in the water. very simple and relaxing place with karaoke, cold beer and food for order to your hut. this british old fart came along with 5 girls ranging from age barley teen to mid 30 mamasan. clearly poor and super low class. country side hillbilly females with home made tattoos. the fact that he was obviously banging the **** girls was enough, but he had a really crappy attitude as well and got on our nerves. some time during the afternoon the phrase "let's kick his teeth in" got stuck, and the pinoy guys where all fired up after a while. as day passed we got more and more pissed at this beach. all on red horse crappy beer. red horse, sun and karaoke. an afternoon with the ambiance similar to the river scenes in apocalypse now. the guy returned from his little perverted island trip in his all exclusively rented perv boat.

to cut a long story shorter. the perv left in a haste. half running, half stumbling. he still can chew his morning banana but i would guess he thinks twice about going to rural beaches with his 13 year old girlfriends. i still think he deserved way more than just being chased away. what maybe disturbed me the most was the fact that the pinoy guys ("friends" for a couple of years) where probing me and my buddy if we thought it was ok before they allowed themselves to openly express their rage about this behavior. like they where wondering if we maybe also would prefer children before the sexy 19 year old young women we had on our sides.

best from barba

Well, I've been here a little over 2 months so I thought I'd better give an update.

The first week or so just involved banging a couple of girls behind the Plaza Roman. Covenient for me but a little expensive. So I have been drawing on the enormous resources of the Web. Have met/f#cked 8 girls/women this method.

The majority are around the 22 year age. I think at this point in their lives they are no longer virgins, have been f#cked around by Filipinos and want to try something else. One real stunner who I've seen twice is supported by a couple of sisters abroad, and was just bored. So she took up my offer. She said that she would probably be married off soon so might as well enjoy her freedom while it lasted.

Another significant find was a 46 year old. Yes you read right, a 46 year old teacher but with a still very good and petite body. She was full on once we got to the motel but would not let me cum in her pussy or mouth - but her arse was ok. No probs haha.

Tomorrow I have a young office worker lined up. Very nice pics and I suspect she has some financial difficulties.

I also snuck out the other night to check out the Victoria Plaza street girls. About half a dozen clustered around a taxi, with no doubt a monger on the prowl. Definitely some talent. Although possibly a little too young. One young cutie offered me her cell no but I will get it next time.

I treat all my'gfs' with respect and courtesy. That's the secret. And if they say please dont cum in me its ok in my mouth or arse, I respect that. A little gift also does not go astray.

On accommodation there is plenty of short time accommodation here as already discussed by other members. I do intend trying the La Vida Inn near NCCC Mall next week. Apparently it goes the extra mile beyond the usual cable porn etc. swinging chairs maybe. I will advise once visited.

On Viagra /Cialis alternatives. Went to the little herbal store that a member kindly recommended. Got some "Impeous Man". Said to work for up to 72 hours. Did a trial with the live in gf. It works ok but I get a little indigestion from it. You get 10 capsules for 500p.

I will give it ago again tomorrow.

Finally, just thanks to all the contributors who have made my arrival here all the more enjoyable with some excellent info and advice.

Cheers

Now that I have been in Davao for a while, meeting and fucking nice women is proving to be very easy.

So I think that I will have to set myself a few challenges. I rather like fucking pregnant women. Not the ones on the verge of popping, but up to about 6 months. How does one do this here without getting some vengeful bf or hubby after you.

Any thought/suggestions on how this can be achieved here?

SteveBarba, Deviate Extraordinaire, is your man for this one.

Think he raised this topic before and I responded. Worth checking his previous posts, easily done by clicking his Avatar etc, and then you will see his comments on this subject and my response same time etc.

He might have learnt more on this subject since then and will pop in and have his say too.

These prego posts and the like are the life and blood of any thread, lol. Keep up the good work.

Your private message service is blocked. Discrete info can be passed onto you that way. Not that I have any though. But I have heard Davao is prego central, lol.

Get together with Barba , when he is in town , at his favourite Sports Bar for a drink. He has become the most informed, when it comes to actually having sex in Davao. Some others like me , are merely commentators.

Hi,

In fact I only had sex with one pregnant girl in Davao. She is an ex working girl I just kept in touch with. Despite her being 7 months and getting ready to pop she got super horny and wet after a few minutes play (see especially the last pic called preggo3.jpg - yes it is her fluids). I paid her 1700 peso for a night.

Also asked a couple of mamasans on C Bank in different occasions and they told me both that preggo girls can be arranged if they get some hours notice. Happy hunting and please take some pictures.

Mwah!Hi Anya,

Firstly to Gamahucher. Had to re write my original post , it was a bit heavy and unwelcoming. I saw your post above , just as I was to post my revised one as follows.

Welcome aboard Anya. Even though I think you might be of the gender bender variety , it will be interesting to hear a locals view on the Davao sex scene. What have you got to offer ? Thanks in advance.

And if you do send in a photo , please make sure its a pic of you , thanks. But photo is not essential , as we do not post our pics on this forum either. Just give us info on Davao City , all the things you know that we dont know. You've been lurking for some time you say , so lets in on the kind of world we do not have access to , locals to locals hetero sex scene. Thanks.

Actually, the word "bayot" means gay; not necessarily a lady boy, and I'm curious how anyone could possibly divine Anya's gender preference from her posts. It's an amazing talent really.

Barba never ceases to amaze. Having met him a couple of times, I know that he's a cultured, well educated guy, yet he seems to be able to pull in women from all over the spectrum here in Davao.

I have my preferred GF: s (plural thank god) in Davao that are sweet. Sometimes but not always so smart in that well educated western way. But who need that all over again? 50% of the well educated persons I meet have serious issues with their self esteem and need to pretend 80% of their awake time. This preggo girl (not "GF") is a simple young survivor from south of Mindano. Ran away from home due to a harsh father. I met her the second or third month she worked C Bank. Not super pretty and not so often selected. You can see the doubt in their eyes when they know that they are not even amongst top eight on the corner. The only thing I however could see that night with my San Mig googles was her big tits, so I picked her, paid 1000 peso and fucked her. She turned out to be the sweetest girl. Very moderate and "un-ruined" by the harsh street life. We went to simple local beaches and just played around for days. I visited her barrio like boarding house where she, like her "sisters", rented a shit hole from her mamasan. Then one day she just vanished.

Not a word for months until just days before a departure to Davao.

"Hi hun. Sorry for not keeping in touch. My bf made me pregnant (not Barba) and I am going back home to my family. Just wanted to say bye before I go".

"Hold your horses baby, I land in Davao in 48 hours. Let us meet one last time so I can get a chance to juggle those swollen knockers".

Said and done. It was a great experience. My first of this kind, but not my last (as it proved). I know that we are all a bit reluctant to disclose our weird fetishes on this board (for some reason), but preggo girls with big swollen tits just ARE sexy. Milk them baby!

Anyone following the Barba escapades knows I since moved on to skinny girls. Slim, preferably short and max 40 kilos is the new fixation. Oh lord, where will this end? Like one of those British nut cases that sits in a crib with a baby hat and a fake tit Russian 1000$ domina that abuse him?

I was about to write that I am just a simple guy with an infinite curiosity, as a reply to your post GE. Sounds good but the truth is probably that I am a border line sex addict with a fat wallet and to much spare time. :.D

Best from Barba the beast!

First and foremost, LOL @ Steve. I knew somebody was gonna ask me that, hehe. And no Sir, I am not. As a matter of fact, I'm in that time of the month. Regarding La Vida Inn by the way, just your simple room really. What I like about that place is that it has a functional Hot-and-Cold shower and Cable Porn... Well... They really don't have a swinging chair. What they have instead is a chair (probably custom-made for them) which resembles a contraption. It makes anyone place themselves in different interesting positions and of course, more importantly, make the girls go spread-eagle, hehe.

I just realized you cannot do smileys here. Bummer. I'm a cheery kind of girl who uses smileys frequently. Anyway, there's always the first time *grin*

To Sxxxx, good thing you decided to make it sound a little more subtle, you must have had encountered the type. Anyway, I have been reading not so frequently but more like every now and then. By the looks of it though, all of you guys know the places to go. I was going to shout off some places, but all of them are mentioned anyway so I guess we just have Lanang and Sasa to tackle. Although it's really really really far from the downtown area so I'm not sure if I should recommend you guys going there.

Hello Gamahucher, thanks. Regarding the pictures... Hmmm... I'm not really keen on posting up bold pictures for EVERYONE to see. Anyway, Davao is a small place. I mean, a small-world place. So if one sees me, they'll probably know I'm a girl right away *smile*

Hello GoodEnough, thanks too. And yes, Davao women like cultured, well-educated guys *smile*

Bob mentioned mango juices... I don't know. Something about them being the most missed out item in the menu but being the most delicious juice of them all anyway. But that's just me. These women probably know some properties of mangoes that I don't, hehe.

Anyway, I'm actually quite tall here for the city as I'm 5'8". Some locals actually do question my gender, most especially when I'm donning high heels, short skirts and sleeveless shirts. I can do the description routine here but I can pass by anywhere and let myself be known anyway. I'm friendly like that *wink*

There's probably nothing "borderline" about any of us on this board. I think we're all way, way over the border, but the weather is fine on this side and it's all good.

Barba, the next time you're in town give me a shout and we can go down some wine at Henny's or Claude's or wherever. Anya, if you're ever passing by De Bonte Koe and you see a guy with an enormous, black Great Dane, come on over and say hello and have a drink with us. My lady and I are usually there on Saturday nights.

'Fraid I cannot get my head round the preggo thing - about 10 minutes after insemination they hold about as much interest to me as a beached whale. Foreign or local? Well, it's more of the local lads really. Although... thanks to Facebook, I'm beginning to be curious with foreign lads too, hehe.

As for Torres, yes, a frequent hang out of mine almost every weekend. The best beer could be found in Bakbak as it is ICE COLD San Miguel Beer. My gal friend and I hang out there when we have to talk off our woes about men, hehehe. I think there are gals there who are searching too. Some of them in Jickongs. Usually they would ask assistance from the Peanut boys (boys who sell peanuts), serving as messengers for the gals. But anyway, it's really teeming with people.

Haha, sorry Barba, I weigh 10 kilos more than that :D Skinny for my height though, but not petite, like your type.

Happy weekend guys

Hmmm. I just had my first 3some last night: D and the 2nd guy was kind of oozing pre-cum as he probably got excited and all since it has been a long time for him. I wanted this 2nd guy to wear a condom prior but things got all heated up (and I forgot to purchase a condom for anyone in the room). I just had my mense but I'm irregular so I was wondering just in case (cause I really do not know this one), do you guys know where I can find and buy a "morning after" pill?

Thanks much. I'd rather have it now than have something else so much later. Unless, someone can ease me that I don't need the pill, hehe.

I noticed on google maps that davao resorts are located on samal island. There doesn't appear to be any bridges. Unlike cebu and mactan.

So my question is simple, as it seems boat stops at 5PM does it mean that after this time there is no way go to to davao and return to the island?

So if you want to be in the night life does it mean you must take an hotel room on the mainland in davao city downtown?

Thanks for the tip to help me prepare my davao trip next week.

X Man

The short answer is yes.

From Paradise, I've rode back to Davao with the outgoing staff as late as 5:40. And I imagine you could always hire a boat at anytime.

I don't remember exactly, but it's less than 90 minutes from Paradise pier to downtown. You could do a lot worse.

So my question is simple, as it seems boat stops at 5PM does it mean that after this time there is no way go to to davao and return to the island? Hi.

The bridge will not be ready for some years yet.

As I mentioned in previous posts the Sasa-Babak ferry runs until 11 pm.

Babak is on the nortwest of Samal. You can either bring your own car/bike, walk or take a bus that can carry you all the way down past Pinya Plata to Kaputian. There are many resorts along the way. Chemaz also have a boat but it stops right about when Paradise stop they service.

Bali Bali is quite a cosy resort on the side facing Davao.

To rent your own boat cost 1000-1500 a day but most often the "captain" will not bring you back to Davao after dark. I belive there is a restriciton for the bankas, but the Babak-ferrys can run also after dark. Best to rent a boat is from St Anna warf, where also the ferries to Talicud and Kaputan departure (at 10 and 11 am).

Day after pills can be aquired in several larger drug stores. I have seen them several times but do not remeber the name of the store. One big out towards Lanang (Mercury?) had them.

Hello Guys,

There are tree ferrys. One for cars and a another one for people (one public and one only for the guests in pearl farm). The public one starts in the near of waterfront hotel (right side of the main street, 200 meters after the hotel.) Its cost 50 Peso per person. (summer this year) But the ferry ends in the resort which you can see from the davao side. There is a hotel too, I think the room cost 5000 Peso per night. In my opinion the best way is take a taxi, go with the car ferry to samal and explore the island. There are some roads, I think there are many resorts on the other side of the island. Of course they are cheaper and not so crowded. I will be in februray in davao and will check it there again. So take care there, and good hunting!

In June I went to Paradise Island Resort 2 times with different girls. The cost was very cheap. around 28 peso to take the boat across from Davao to the resort. Entrance fee was 100 peso each for all day.

The girls loved the place. I asked about room rates and they were around 40 USD.

Even the food and gift shop were cheap. I paid less than I would at a USA Mcdonalds for a hamburger/fries/and coke.
I forgot my swimming shorts and paid around 300 peso in the gift shop for a new one.

The car ferry is fairly far north on Lanang, and the cost of transporting a car with passengers is Php270. I did it just last week. Driving around the interior of the island, which is larger than Singapore, can be interesting, as the interior villages don't see many foreigners, and you will receive a very warm welcome. I have no idea how late the Ferry runs, but I know it starts early, as I was there at 8 AM and there was a boat waiting to fill. The ferries are not large and can accommodate only 7-8 cars, but the ride is less than 10 minutes and they depart frequently.

Will be arriving in Davao Friday the 3rd. Only staying a few days as I'm off to Cebu to get married in the grand Cathedral. The fiance will probably meet me there in Davao 1st day(too bad, would like to get some practice in). A couple questions...

I'd like to drop a few pounds before the wedding. Where's a good gym in the city?

Will buy my suit there. Any quality tailors and could you give me a rough estimate of prices. thanks.

The best tailor in town, by far is Chardin, located on the street beside the Apo View Hotel. The work is excellent and the selection of fabrics quite broad. I had a wool/silk blend suit made for me there last year, and it would easily have cost me $1,500-$2000 in the States. I think I paid about $200. I have all of my shirts and slacks made there and have for years. They do a terrific job.

You know, we were there last week end, Great Dane and all, and I was wondering if you would come by. Probably won't be there this week end, but will be there next week end for sure, and I'll still look forward to meeting you.

Anya I'm adding to this post because it just occurred to me that the famous Dragon Slayer--who is also a good friend of mine--will be here in a couple of days and you might enjoy meeting him as well. I would have sent you a PM, but I don't think I can so I chose this rather public forum instead. We'll try to be at DBK on Wednesday night if you're interested.

Viagra and Cialis can be bought in for example the drug store in Victoria. No prescription required. But they are expensive. Often more than 500 a pill when I asked around during my last trip to Davao a couple of months ago. Maybe you should try some alternatives.

I posted some info on this here:

Ge! I really should've went after midnight, after I came from my dad's place. Problem was, I was with my sister and kinda strict mom, and the places we've passed by we're kinda quiet (the Torres stretch was so dark and all the establishments were closed). If we passed by Autoshop (it was open), I would've had changed my mind and made myself more assertive in joining you guys.

Sigh. 'Tis explaining to myself too, hehe. But I was really itching to celebrate outside the house. Oh well. Again, I should've known.

How long will DS be staying here, GE? And you will be around this coming Saturday right?

By the way, I also can't send you PMs. I tried, hehe. Don't worry, we will meet. By then we will be able to figure something out.

No prescriptions.

As mentioned in that post - second floor of V-mall. Walk AWAY from Rockys barber shop. Walk on the left side. Look for two small boots on your right, opposite a women's clothes store. One selling cheap jewellery and the other one herbal medicine.

Cialis and Viagra can be bought at the drug store in V-mall on first floor. Right when you enter the northern gate there is one. They never asked me for a prescription.
You can also buy them without prescription at the drug store close to Gaisano South mall (note the difference from Gasiano).

Anya, I think the reason that we cannot send each other PMs is that you're not a senior member. If you upgrade your membership the problem would probably disappear.

Tomorrow night (Saturday) we will be at the Blue Room in the Apo View, and I will try to bring DS along. I'm not sure how long he will stay, but certainly for another few days. I would give you my cell phone number but that would be way too public for me and in any case I do not think that it's permitted. DBK by the way, is closed till about the 7th when Henny gets back from Europe so we cannot go there. Also, I would have been delighted to invite you to the New Years Eve get together we had at the house but again, I had no way of contacting you.

I hope things start to pick up here this week end because for the past few days the town has been like a morgue.

Anya Belle,

You don't have to pay for the subscription to become a Senior Member. You should see instructions on your screen somewhere (or a link to them) that tells you how to request to be a senior member. If I recall correctly, it basically amounts to simply sending an e-mail to Jackson asking for it. The paid subscription gets you even more benefits on here.

I will also be in Davao for the first time in February. I am planning a trip from Feb. 12 - 22 to the Philippines. I'm not sure which dates I will actually be in Davao. But I know I won't have a chance to check out any mongering possibilities, as I will be there with my girl from Manila. She told me she wants us to visit her cousin in Davao. Said she is married to an American that lives and works there. I wonder if he is one of the ISG brothers. :D

Since I don't have the good fortune to have as much expendable cash as DW ;) , and both my girl and I tend to be koripot :o , I will be looking for a decent, yet inexpensive, hotel room for a couple of nights. The last time I was in Manila, my girl would not agree to stay in a room, unless the price was below P2500. My only problem with that, is I know the cheaper the room rate is, the worse the bed is. I already have back problems, and a bad bed only makes it hurt more.

If any of the Davao regulars have any suggestions, I would really appreciate it.

Happy Mongering!

If the budget is 2500 or below you can for example stay at Apo as a diamond club member (arranged at the hotel in minutes) or Grand Meng Seng (tel 0822219040). There is also smaller Casa Leticia or Las Casitas. And another 100+ options.

Regency In is also have acceptable beds if you wish to be closer to SM and Gaisano Mall. Express that you want a room WITH windows.

Of the cheaper ones I recommend Bagobo House but the beds I tried where not that great.

For 2500 you are actually within the range of most hotels in Davao.

For a few nights I would recommend Apo. www.apoview.com
You can book the Diamond Club with Frances on +639193515510.

Get the "new wing" since it is fresher and not surprisingly newer than the old part.
You will be close to the Peoples Park and Rizal where many go for a drink or to dance and party. Apo is a standard big hotel with all its pros and cons. Wifi in the café and outdoor area. The wifi also spills over to some of the old rooms on level 3 in the old wing. Not very stable connection though in the rooms.

HW, there are several options from which to choose. You could try Galleria Hotel just off Quirino St., which has a small pool, is very clean, and has rooms for about Php1,500. You could also try Las Casitas on Rizal St. which is newer but has no pool. If you're really strapped for cash try the brand new wing of the Sampagita Inn on Quirino, right next to Davao Doctor's Hospital. You can get rooms there starting at about Php800. Casa Leticia, on Camus St. also has rooms under the Php2,500 limit. There's also the Seycher Hotel on Bajada, which is a budget place with rooms under Php1,000 and Villa Margarita, also on Bajada, with rooms (I think) at may Php1,200-Php1,500. There's also the small, but very nice Habana Hotel in the Habana compound on Rizal St. which is right in front of Henny's De Bonte Koe restaurant. These are just for starters. There are lots of others.

If you want any more specific information feel free to send me a PM.

I am stingy too but not when it comes to my own clothes, jewelry and most important lodging in a third world country. You can read a few posts back about guy in the Subic thread who slummed it in Subic and found out the hard way why this is not a good idea to do this in a third world country.

Own experience: coming back from Boracay before I bought my house last Jan I tried to save a few pesos and booked a room at well known monger hotel (Oxford Suites) in Makati. It was right on Burgos Street which in my ignorance at that time didn’t know the place was a red light district.

The first room smelled like smoke I don’t smoke. They moved me into another room then later told me I had to move again as someone had booked that room. About now I am more than pissed as I have been travelling all day by land, sea and air to get back to Manila from Boracay. Last straw: I saw a cock roach while carrying out my morning business in the bathroom. Right after that I packed my shit and checked into the Renaissance and to this day it remains my favorite hotel in the Manila area.

Well, it was probably too good to last.

I guess my discrete mongering was too much for the gf. it could also be that Filipinas are just naturally suspicious. And I have been guilty.

So.. next week I shall move to a hotel for a few days to try and avoid the inevitable fallout/fight and review my options. I am truly foolish being a monger of more than 20 years, I should have known better.

I will probably catch up with a few of the nice ladies I have met and maybe, do a final run to Angeles before heading home for a while.

Davao is a nice city but I guess I have soiled my nest...and it's time to go.

So to all who live here ...take care and be carefull...haha.

Barba, DW & GE,

Thanks to all of you for the hotel advice! And no offense intended DW. If you got the "Warbucks," why not use them? I'm just not that financially secure right now (spent to much on mongering in Korea the last few years). I need to save for a while, or get a high paying job.

It seems that I am no longer in the planning part of this trip. She has told me that her cousin (the one married to an American living in Davao) will arrange our hotel for us, and play driver to take us to anyplace we want while we are there. I'm sure I won't be able to monger any while I'm there. This will be a good way to recon the area for possible future mongering activity.

It would be great to meet up with some ISG brothers while I am there (and the cousins husband may be one of you  ), but I don't think she will let me out of her sites. She knows that there are many temptations in the PI, and I am one that gives in easily to temptation. :D If I do come across your path (you might recognize the badly dressed, sweaty, fat guy with the smoking hot young Filipina...but that could be any ISGer :p ) please just say "Hi!" "Welcome to Davao!" or something similar. We really should develop a ISG secret handshake or something to identify ourselves to each other.

I'm still not sure of the exact dates I will be in Davao. I have my ticket for the round trip from 12 to 22 Feb. And I know that she plans to tie me down to the bed for the first night, at least. I'll try to find the exact dates as I get closer to my flight date.

Happy Mongering!

But be aware of the muslim extremist in the southern part of the Island. Was advised to draw a line from Cagayn D'oro to Davao, and do not go south of that line. Zambo is safe, and the women there really intrigue me with their looks. You might hear all kinds of rumors about Mindanao, but I have been there many times and have always felt safe in CDO, and Davao. Only thing I know of the conservative bit. Is that the women want their men circumcised. So if you are not then them might mention this fact why you are not. I had a couple of girls ask me. A prostitute will never bring this up. Have fun!

This is pretty good advice I think. The real point is though that there's no place south of CDO that would attract foreigners in any case. I'll be in Marawi--where I've been many times before--next week, and I'll be passing through Iligan as well. Let me assure you that unless you have to go there, as I do, there's not reason to want to go there. As to Basilan, and Sulu, where you should not go under any circumstances, the same applies. Even if there was no danger in Jolo, Lamitan or Isabela, there's no reason at all to go. Tawi-Tawi (Bongao City) is totally safe but totally boring, with no foreigner-in-mind accommodations and again, no reason to go.

The only places that would interest most of the guys who read this board are Davao, CDO, Zamboanga and, perhaps, General Santos City, all of them safe. As I think I've said before, the drive from Davao to CDO is beautiful, passing through various micro-climates and types of scenery, and well worth taking if you have the time.

GE

I have not ben around much compared to the veterans on this board, but there are a couple of (secret) pearls for the adventurous one, also in the south. It is just so darn unpredictable when it comes to safety.

I see at least two reasons not to mention the places here.

Let's just say I hope Phil and Mindanao never becomes the next Thailand. Maybe I should consider a MILF sponsorship foundation? What an unfortunate name for a terrorist organization by the way. MILF = Mothers I'd Like to Fu** OR Moro Islamic Liberation Front. Hmmm. I'd pick the first one any day.

I liked GenSan quite a lot. Simple "city" but a huge fish fleet and a fish market that I can spend hours on just looking at the various species and mega tunas. Had a VERY good kinilaw in a local simple restaurant.

Well, I'm still in the fine city of Davao hehe.

Just an update on activities.

Today, I managed to almost double book two girls. One was a new 'friend' I met on the internet. 19 year old very attractive, former athlete. She actually stood me up on Monday but begged my forgiveness (something about a jeepney breaking down). Anyway, I gave her another chance and agreed to meet her at the mall. Almost gave up as she was 30 minutes late! (Filipina time). But I'm glad I stayed. Very attractive and slim body. She originally only wanted to meet for coffee and not to fuck (looking for serious relationship), but she said on arrival that she did not want anything to eat or drink. So I suggested we go to the closest inn. We got there and she acted a little shy, but I new as soon as she thrust her tongue down my throat that everything would be fine haha.

Didn't ask for money other than transport but of course I gave her 1 000. She also suggested we could go to her home province later in the week. I don't think so.

My problem was, I had arranged to meet a regular gf two hours later and did not want to stand her up. So I only put one shot through my new friend and then hurried on to my next appointment.

A bigger problem is that my live in gf is back in town tonight and stated that she wants servicing.... There is nothing quite like a middle aged fool is there? haha.

Anyway, life was not meant to be easy.

I have a question for those better informed than me.

I often see girls wandering around the various entertainment precincts carrying rather large hand bags. Is this a fashion statement or are they looking for a date and are coming prepared?

@GE, no really, these are fashion statements :) Filipinas usually don't come prepared for events like the one mentioned. If they know they are going to stay for the night though, believe me, they will come prepared with bigger bags, lol!

According to the recommendations I got here on the board, I tried plaza roman for a daytime pleasure. As soon as I arrived there by taxi I was guided to around the building to the back. There I was even outside the building welcomed by about 3 women. Took the prettiest one and went inside. She guided me to a rather nice room with a big Jacuzzi. Then the negotiation part came. She wanted 2000 peso for 1˝ hours and I was able to bargain her down to 1500. That is only the price for her, the fee for the room is another couple hundred peso.

We undressed and went to the Jacuzzi. But the water was cold, so we were not able to have the bath session and cleaned only with a shower. Up to the big bed! She has a nice body, no kids and medium size boobs. To warm her up (she was kind of commercial at the beginning) I started with DATY her. The more I liked her all over the body, the more she warmed up. So it was not so difficult to convince her that the BJ goes without and the boom boom with condom. She let me come twice, once in her mouth and once in her sweet pussy.

Yes, I am really moving out tomorrow and into a hotel. f

I am a monger at heart, and really need to move on...haha.

I was hoping to try and catch-up with some fellow travellers.

I will be here for at least a week. Might even stay if I meet someone special..

Will keep you posted.

PS. Have a lovely young pregnant girl to see tomorrow morning (5 months).

Well, things didn't quite go to plan.... I thought I had a reasonable exit strategy including generous severence money etc etc for my gf.

The other night had it all. Stabbing, police, 911, Casualty . You get the picture.

The good news is no one was seriously hurt, I didnt get deported, and the police were very good, sympathetic and supportive.

So, I am a free man, finding his way in the world again haha. Might see some of you around town.

Anya, if u still frequent Jikongs, might see you there one evening. To swap war stories haha. Yes, the beer there is very, very cold.

So, a final warning to all mongers. be very careful out there! The World can be a dangerous place. LOL

Hehe, I have actually cut out going out these days. Saving up for something. But if I do go there, I hope I'll recognize you :D :)

Well my Vacation is over and I'm back home wondering how it all went so fast. My stop in Davao, was by far, the best part of the trip. The Non P4P action was incredible. Roman Plaza, though over priced in my opinion, had some fairly decent women, one cute 19 year old whom I selected to join me back at the hotel. Incidently, she came back to my room two more times after the inital cost of meeting her at Romans, and she continued to text me wanting to meet until I left. Had I not met a few non P4P women during my stay in Davao, it would have been great to spend more time with her.

The Marco Polo Hotel was worth every peso spent there. I won't stay any place else during my next visit. It had all the Amenities plus a fairly decent gym. The only thing that could have made it better was if the internet connection was free. It cost peso 500 a day and expired 24hrs from the time of the purchase. A small fee, but for convenience value, they should have included the cost in the room rate. All of the restaurants there had excellent food. I spent a lot of evenings at pool-side eating, drinking and enjoying the pool lights changing colors.

The view of the city from Jacks Ridge was spectacular, and the views of the ladies in the Auto Shop and Torres street area were even better. I found that just making eye contact, smiling, and being a gentleman was enough to pave the way for an evening of fun. You mongers who like the wild wild west feel of Angeles City might take note that Davao is NOT your type of town! It moves at a much slower pace. But there is plenty of fun to be had there if you're not in a hurry. I'm sad to say, the six days I spent there were not nearly long enough to discover all the possibilities held by the city. Davao is definitely the kind of city I would like to live in when I retire. I envy those of you who live there now.

I spent a month there this summer, did not want to leave-ever. Walked around outside at night and felt very safe. Huge population of regular girls in the town. And you can bus some more in for a couple hundred pesos. There still is much in the city I still want to see.
Do take a girl to the Croc Park, it is a fun place to visit. Also Samal is only a 30 peso boat trip to visit and has some nice beaches.

Lucky us, Delbert. I'm back in town next week.

See you all, or maybe more likely just very few of you. Well, you all know I am always open for a SML and/or some pool so feel free to drop me a line.

As always the beer club will have some food and a few meters of beer in Jerrys @ Gaisano Mall coming Friday, i.e. March 6. Welcome to join me and a few non ISG:ers at 6-ish. A friendly bunch so no need to be nervous or shy. ;-)

Cheers Barba!

Hello Genghois!!!! we have to find time to meet in Mindanao!

Well, I started planning my next trip to the Philippines. I'll be leaving the United States around June 15. I'm an academic site don't have to be back until the end of August, more or less. I was thinking of flying from New York or Atlanta to Malaysia. I want to take one of those tours to see the jungle. Of course I want to take a girl with me. The tours themselves are not that expensive. One of the guys on this forum has introduced me to his sister who is a travel agent in Malaysia. She is trying to find me some nice tours. But it doesn't seem that easy to take a local girl with me, especially if I only have one or two days after I arrive in which to get to know her. I've heard there are a lot of Filipinos there but most of them are pretty hard-core. I could fly in a girl that I know from my last trip. I'm not sure.

After visiting the jungle, I want to go to Mindanao. The problem is how to get there. The only way that seems to be recommended is to fly to Manila and then fly to Davao. It seems so much more direct -- and more interesting -- to take a boat from Kota Kinabalu to zamboanga. Unfortunately, this passes through Abu Sayaf territory. So again I'm not really sure how to handle it.

I am planning to visit Davao, General Santos and maybe other places in Mindanao. I would be very happy to make the acquaintance via this website of anyone who lives there or is planning to be there this summer.. I've been to the Philippines twice before so I know a little bit about it. I am a scuba diver. I prefer non-pro girls, but I don't have too much patience for Filipinas who are too slow. so maybe I am really looking for semipro women.

I would strongly advise against taking the ferry. Things are heating up around the Zamboanga area and it's just not as safe as it has been. I have an office there, and I've been visiting the area for years, but it's changing fast and not for the better I'm afraid. Hopefully, after the elections in 2010, things will go back to the way they were.

I'm a diver as well and I live in Davao, so I would be happy to hook you up with some dives when you're here.

Got to endorse GE's comments, always take note of the man on the grounds intel, I visited sulu and jolo last year with a governmental organisation, sometimes you get a vibe, the place has one nowadays, the guys with us werent for decoration. If your thinking of a jungle-trek in Malaysia visit Sabah, just over the water from Pinas, I did some training there years ago, great place and the last time I was there some excellent walks.

Jolo is the capitol city of Sulu, and it's an excellent place to avoid. You should only be there with trained people carrying serious weaponry which is only possible if you're there on some sort of official business. The guys who work for us who are stationed there live under lock down conditions with 24/7 guards. But again, as I often point out, even if Sulu were safe, there would be no reason for anyone from this board to go there for a vacation. There's very little there, and none of the amenities that would attract foreigners.

If you simply must sample part of the Sulu Archipelago, I suggest you try Bongao, the capitol of Tawi-Tawi, which is lots safer, though not completely secure. You can get once-a-day flight from there to Zamboanga and from Zamgoanga there are two daily flights to Davao. I believe that Tawi-Tawi is the closest point of the Philippines to Malaysia, and that getting from Sabah to Tawi-Tawi is not much of a problem.

On the whole however, it's better to avoid Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi and, increasingly, Zamboanga. If you want to come to the beautiful region of Mindanao, think of Davao, Cagayan de Oro and perhaps General Santos City, all of which are safe and secure.

Your only option to travel directly between the cities is to take a bus, which runs several times a day between the two cities. The ride will take you about seven hours. I suggest you take the Executive coach, which is quite comfortable, and runs movies throughout the ride. It's a very safe trip so long as you do it during the day, and it's quite a pretty ride. A more indirect and much more expensive route is to fly from Davao to Cebu and then from Cebu to CDO. The bus trip will cost somewhere around Php500 and the trip by plane will, I estimate, cost around Php5,000.

I was planning to go to Davao this summer for a couple of months because I had read great things, but then I saw this. Could anyone respond and tell me what to make of conflicting opinions on this city.

This is the report from another site:

"Don't bother with Davao. It's all KTVs that are a total rip-off and virtually zero P4P. Davao is a VERY different kind of place. It is VERY conservative. Don't bother trying to get pussy while you're there. Just enjoy the fruit that's in season in July. Davao has lots of really great fruit that they export throughout the country and the world.

I've been there over a dozen times for weeks at a time. The nicest hotel in town is the Marco Polo, and shouldn't cost you more than $70 per night. If you order a massage in your room, you will be sadly disappointed to find that the girls are all legitimate masseuses and will NOT grant you a happy ending, and will look at you really weird if you ask them how much it will cost for some action.

There are a lot of really cool things to do and see in Davao that are unique to the rest of the Philippines, which is why I go there. But I usually only go for a week or two at a time, and then spend the rest of my time in Manila doing nothing but chasing around girls, er, I mean, women. Manila is the place for pussy. Davao is NOT.

By the way, the massage parlors in Davao are ALL legit. But you can get a really good massage for $4-$6 per hour.

There is only one place in this entire city of one million people where you can find street action. You can get laid for $10-$15, LITERALLY. Most of the girls range from 5-8 and there are occasional stunners, and there is no upcharge for the stunners.

How’s it going, bud?

Check out Dragon Slayer’s Forum. That’s where the Davao experts on ISG live. By all reports, a target-rich environment. I’ve certainly had more responses from Davao girls on FH, DIA and the like than any place else in Phil. I’ve got at least one cp# for every night of my stay, the first week of May. So the non-pro girls seem to have some game. I promise to report back!

I don’t know about two months, my friend. I’d go crazy staying in any one place, for that long (including at home!)

I have been a month or so in the 3 big cities:Manila, Cebu, and Davao. Davao was by far the easiest to score with beautifully girls.

Davao is like some kind of sanctuary from crime, I felt very safe there. Very affordable and the city has so many girls to choose from. Also, you can bus in a girl from any of the provinces for very cheap, no need to leave the city. If you get bored, you can find flights to Manila and Cebu for under $40.

I only used a hooker once, because I just wanted to try it out. I called some taxi driver who had put in his cp# into my phone"just ďn case I need anything"

The only SWs, I saw were a few in the parking lot near Victoria Mall (or Victoria Plaza, not sure of the name)

Your peso goes very far in Davao, I mostly spent between 900 and 1200 peso a night for a room.
I agree, check out DS's forum also, he and GE have spent a lot of time there.

Is this anything to worry about in terms of hiking in the countryside?

Fresh Fighting in South Philippines Kills 27 People

MANILA, March 28 (Reuters) - At least 27 people were killed, including seven soldiers, and dozens were wounded when troops battled about 80 rogue members of the Philippines' largest Muslim rebel group in the south, an army spokesman said on Saturday.

Philippine troops have been fighting a rogue faction of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) on the southern island of Mindanao for nearly eight months after the renegade rebel forces burned farms and homes in Catholic-dominated towns in the south.

Troops killed about 20 rebels and dozens were wounded during an eight hour battle on Friday near Liguasan marsh, said army spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Jonathan Ponce.

"We recovered mangled bodies in the area," Ponce told reporters. "Some bodies were hanging on treetops. They got hit by our artillery shelling. But we lost seven men and five were also wounded."

Ponce said troops were still on clearing operations and were chasing remnants of an 80-member renegade group that were in the area.

"Based on our intelligence, this group was planning to attack villages so we pre-empted them," he added.

Nearly 500 people have been killed in clashes since August last year when peace talks between the government and the MILF bogged down after Manila's high court scrapped a proposed deal carving a larger ancestral homeland for Muslims in the south.

Disgruntled rebels attacked Catholic-dominated towns on the southern island of Mindanao, burning homes and farms and killing dozens of civilians.

The military launched an offensive against the rebels, forcing a team of peace monitors from Brunei, Libya, Japan and Malaysia to withdraw to safety. Later, the Malaysians pulled out whne talks collapsed.

Manila is now trying to restart talks, forming a new peace negotiating panel and asking Malaysia to call for talks between the government and the rebels.

The MILF has been fighting for self-determination for nearly 40 years. The conflict has killed 120,000 people and displaced 2 million. At the height of fighting last year, nearly 700,000 people were also forced to abandon their homes and farms.

If you head West towards CDO, after about two hours, you will end up at the Eastern edge of Bukidnon which is nothing but country till you get further west. I would also like to give my input about Davao as a newbie, because we have some contrast opinions between first time visitor who spend a couple of days there and those are experienced punters who really know where to go and what to do. I was there for about 4 days a couple of month ago.

I was first for a day at Marco Polo, yes it’s nice, but it’s about 100 euros per night so it ends up costing a lot if you are there for a couple of weeks. I read somewhere in the forum you could get some really good prices like 3000 pesos or something in that region, please explain how many days you should stay to obtain such prices, and who to negotiate with, either the clerk from the registration desk or perhaps ask to speak to someone from management.

After I have stayed at Casa Leticia which is a small hotel, rather modest, but clean, excellent location (near Apo hotel) and also with free wifi! However it has a very poor breakfast!

I could use tip for quality restaurants, because even though if the Marco Polo hotel has a descent buffet we are clearly a bit far from Michelin Star gastronomy while in Manila you can get a really nice diner at the Grill restaurant at the Hyatt or at the Shangri La hotel to name a few.

Davao is a very safe city, there are entertainment as there are Casinos, night life is nice you can always find a restaurant even at a very late time of the night.

Regarding P4P night life as I was not alone during this trip I could only visit Hot Legs, (don’t remember which one) and the line up was descent.

The City is vast, honestly it’s nothing special, there is no architecture. It looks like everything is very recent there are a few descent buildings in the center not so far from Marco Polo hotel for example, but the rest of the city is very dark at night … and looks like cheap houses that were self made by the inhabitants. In a way Davao remind me of some parts of Los Angeles which are just flat street with warehouses, fast food places etc …

Davao is huge from the center it takes a while to drive to SM Mall. Near the SM are located the very few condos buildings from Davao. Unlike in Cebu I didn’t see any girls trying to make a pass at me. Then again I was there for *real* shopping but maybe some of you can tell us if it’s possible to make “friends” at the Mall.

On a side note, if you smoke, don’t go to Davao! Smoking is forbidden!

Nature is nice is Davao, there is samal island. Without a vehicule it’s boring. Personally what I did, was when I crossed I found a group of guys with small motos / scooters, and I offered them to rent me one of their bikes for the afternoon. I think I paid 500 pesos, which was probably too much, but I didn’t want to argue for too long.

There is also Mt Apo the biggest mountain of the Phils.

Personally even though I haven’t really investigated all the possibilities of P2P in the city, I had a fine time there. Atmosphere is more laid back than in Manila, I think Davao is like the Napoli or the Marseille of the Phils. Except the surrounding nature, clearly the main asset of Davao is the “mood” of the city, it’s really pleasant. At night there are people out in the street partying in bars around Rizal, people seem happy… It was really a pleasant stay.

I would happily return to Davao for a longer period perhaps 3 weeks or a month, if I can find affordable and quality accommodation, and some tips to find quality girls (for long term booking like one week +) rather than one night stand with Hot Leg or KTV girls.

I think Davao is a city that only reveals itself to those who shall stay there for a week or more to really understand the city. (Something I shall try soon).
That’s it for the newbie feedback of a short visit in the fine City of Davao.

I congratulate you EF, as I think you have captured the essence of Davao pretty well. It's a laid back kind of place that take a while to get to know, but once you know where to go and how to get there, it's a terrific place to live.

As to how to establish a decent rate at the Marco, I cannot advise you. My company has established rates there, and it's where we put all of our visitors, but I haven't stayed there in years and no longer know anyone. However, if you're staying for a longer period, I would suggest you think of renting a service apartment, which is far less expensive and offers (almost) all the amenities of home. You might look at Red Knight Garden and/or Drifters, both of which have small restaurants and bars and pools. I think you can get a studio at Red Knight for less than $20 a night, and it's quite a decent place.

As I've mentioned before, Red Knight and Drifters, which is a bit further north, used to be considered well outside the city center. With the emergence of the Damosa area as a new, secondary city center however, that's changed and both of these places are within 5-10 minutes of the night spots and restaurants of Damosa. And speaking of Damosa, I would recommend that you try the Swiss Deli for breakfast the next time you're in town.

There are also lots of places with much better food than the Marco, though the restaurant by the pool there is not bad. In the downtown area, for example, there's De Bonte Koe (European food) and Cafe de Ville (French food), both of which are on Rizal St. within walking distance of the Apo View and about a one minute taxi ride. Tsuru, the Japanese restaurant is owned by the owners of the Apo View and is next to the hotel. There's also a branch in Damosa. If you like good, home cooked Italian food, La Toscana on Quirino, diagonally across the street from Davao Doctors Hospital is quite good, though the parade of lady boys moving incessantly past the restaurant made unnerve some of the customers. Pico Belo, owned by the owners of Swiss Deli and on the top floor of Gaisano South Mall in the center of town also has good Italian food.

Further north, in the Damosa/JP Laurel area, there's a new and quite good Thai place called Bangkok Wok, which is in the new Robinson's complex. A little further north, there's Spirale, quite a good Italian Restaurant in Damosa Gate, and also a new Japanese restaurant, the name of which escapes me, next to Spirale. Of course the Swiss Deli, which is always good, is just across the street from the entrance to Damosa Gate. There are also lots of upscale Filipino places, if that's not an oxymoron, on Torres St., an a mediocre Thai restaurant called Krua Thai also on Torres St. next to the large Bo's Coffee Shop.

You can get good morning coffee and pastries at Blue Gre, on Bajada in the center of town, and there are three or four decent Chinese restaurants just behind and to the side of Victoria Plaza on Bajada.

As to "natural" stuff, the next time you're here, check out the Eagle sanctuary, the crocodile and butterfly farm and some of the more mountainous areas west of the city center. To get to the latter however, you will need a car, as Davao is enormous, and the drive will take you at least 90 minutes.

There's lots of other things to do and there are lots of other places to eat and to gawk at women, but I think this post has rambled on long enough.

Nicely described , EF.
You got the essence of Davao!

I travelled there and met ladies i had made contact with over Date-in-Asia. From Zamboanga, from Gensan, from Cd"oro....

Last time i spent the Easter weeks there - so relaxing and layed back.
The only time Davao looked like a ghost town was on Good Friday :-).

Spent 2 weeks in Red Night , and had spent time in Wite Mansion before . Googgle for it, both are on the web.

Thanks for the restaurants tips GE. See I had the chance to live in Paris for years so I've been a bit spoiled regarding cuisine, and I always have some problems in the phils regarding that matter!

Actually while there is a dedicated hotel thread for Manila & Angeles, there should be a restaurant thread as well! Some of us like to treat themselves and their date with fine cuisine! (end of note to moderator! )

Well hope everyone else (people who have never gone to davao) will understand the concept of the city that has nothing to visit but is pleasant to live.

Another asset of Davao is the fact there is no real rainy season. So for europeans & americans who often have summer breaks, it's a good way to avoid manila rainy season in June. October.

I lived in Paris for a long, long time, and believe me I understand about getting spoiled with the food and the wine. Let me assure you, that the best you will do in Davao (Cafe de Ville) is, at its best, equivalent to a neighborhood bistro or even a good tabac in the city of light. If you judge by French standards, Davao will fall far short, not only in food of course, but in about every dimension (except women) I can think of. But of course, I'm a total Francophile and for me, everyplace in the world falls far short of Paris.

Having said that though, Swiss Deli is owned by two Swiss/Germans; one a butcher and one a baker, and they make all of their own sausages and hams and cut and cure all of their own beef. The sausages (and even some saucissons) are truly European, and very good. I buy literally dozens of them at a time and freeze them at home. They also import some excellent European cheeses, including a nice Roquefort, and their bread--baguettes, multi-grains, pumpernickel, and rye--are baked every few hours, so they're fresh and very good, or about as good as you can get European bread in a tropical climate. Their pastries are also good and made on premises. Hola Espana, a Spanish restaurant across the street from Swiss Deli has lousy food, but does import some excellent cheeses, and you can buy nice chorizo, imported from Spain, at Spirale, in Damosa Gate.

Swiss Deli also has a reasonably large wine cellar, and you can buy nice reds for as little as Php1,200 or so, up to Php20,000. It's properly chilled and stored, and good value for money, though I confess I've never opted for the Php20,000 range. About the only thing you cannot find in Davao is decent, vintage Champagne, though you can find the garden variety Moet et Chandon at lots of places. I also remember Claude's (Cafe de Ville) selling a very drinkable Champagne that Dragon Slayer once purchased and which we shared over a meal.

If you're in Manila, you might want to try Toscas at the Dusit. It's not Gourmet class, but it has an Italian chef, is managed by a German, and the food is quite good. I once had a duck ravioli there that was superb. The selection of Italian reds is pretty extensive, though somewhat on the pricey side. The service is impeccable and the ambiance is quite pleasant.

I lived in Paris for a long, long time, and believe me I understand about getting spoiled with the food and the wine. But of course, I'm a total Francophile and for me, everyplace in the world falls far short of Paris.

Oh, sorry Roger, I forgot the mention that the height of the British culinary experience, beans on toast, is widely available. As to the Gevrey Chambertin, need I point out that it's French?

Ge: thanks for those tips I'll give it a try this summer!

Perhaps we should speak to michelin to get them to hire us to do a "guide rouge" of the Philippines, after all they did one for HK & Macao and for Tokyo!

The japanese near casa laeticia is descent. Well considering the overall offer in Davao. I'm always worried when eating raw fish in the Phils because who knows how it's been conserved during the phils food industry supply chain!

WR: UK cuisine please! Don't fool yourself! Unless "the fat duck" opens a branch in Davao, (very unlikely me thinks), there is no english cuisine!

Nobody wants to eat jelly or pudding under the tropics!

Ah … but you probably haven’t troughed at The Fat Duck in Bray. I have, way back in 1997, well before Heston Blumethal got his 3rd Michelin star and was acclaimed as one of the worlds best young chefs and branched out as a TV celebrity. The food back then was the best I’ve ever tasted (and I’ve although I'm no epicure, I’ve noshed in some decent joints). And yes, despite his name, he is British and unlike most top British chefs, his dishes might be described as modern British fusion, although I’m not too sure about the snail porridge or the bacon and egg ice cream that feature on his recent menu’s.

And as for The Greasy Spoon Caff in Grimsby….mmmm….heaven:D.

Most people are avoiding Mr Blumethal's establishment nowadays GH after he had a mass food poisoning scare, there were over 400 complaints. Never ate there myself, dog adobo was always good enough for me.

The tuna for the suhi comes from General Santos City, the self-proclaimed "tuna capital of the world," and most of the good tuna goes to Japan. Given that it's only 3 hours or so from Davao, I give the food preservation chain the benefit of the doubt. I've eaten the sushi there many times and I've never gotten sick.

Just got back from yet another trip to Davao. The fourth this year I think. You do not go to Davao for the food alone, that is for sure. But except for GE:s advices on more or less fine establishments, I want to give a recommendation for Cusina Selera on Camus (?). If you travel down San Pedro in the direction you are allowed to drive you take a right and then you have it just to you left after a few meters. Right after the Starbucks look alike. Traditional Pinoy dishes with a touch of fine dining. The mohitos with fresh herbs alone are worth a visit in this city of few food&drink-options.

On the topic of raw fish: revisited Tsuru on Legaspi. They clearly made an effort since last time to serve better and fresher food. This time it was just about worth the 6000 peso we spent for 5 eating persons. The sake is always good at least.

Had a go at the thai place at Robinson. The best in Davao but still far from my top ten list.

More white guys on the regular places. The same scene of entertainment as always. No changes in that respect, except the temporary fluctuation in what is “hip and in” that month. A lot of SW around San Pedro, Rizal and as always over at C Bank.

Tried a few massage places. One place right opposite the entrance of Gaisano South was a pleasant surprise. I think there where three spas in a row, and this one was the one to the right. In through a barber shop and up some narrow stairs. The girl had steel muscles, and really worked me through good. Visit to the hotel was negotiable but no sex. Yea right... The next evening they texted me frenetically to come and massage me again. Another place right in that area offered a massage that was significantly less good for my back and significantly more interesting for my TRex. 750 P for piano play and a superb HJ. Cheap and dirty place with just curtains to cover the “door” of the dressing rooms they used for this enterprise. A small room, a sign saying “Absolutely no sex” and those walls that stop about 0.5 meters from the floor and 1 meter from the ceiling. I picked a cute 21 year old girl with bad teeth. Did not even want to put my dick in her mouth but fondled her tits and lifted her skirt to slide a finger in her little damp clam while whispering... well lets not go into that. After the deed was done I realized what the bucket of water and damp cloth was used for and I said “HELL NO!”, snatched her bottle of alcohol and used the bed sheet. Had a nice talk with dance outside with the girls while waiting for my buddies. Age ranging from 21 - ~50. The once I was dancing with was the oldest mama of them all. All happy and wired up because she just made a fortune. Experience before beauty paid off that night for her. Got the number of another quite cute girl with a belly not matching her face. Texted with her but my schedule did not allow me to see that particular girl again during this particular trip.

Back in a coupe of months.

Cheers Barba!

I don't know what Barba's referring to so cannot help you.

On another topic, we were at Henny's (De Bonte Koe) last night, and we didn't get there until about 9. By the time we arrived, Some Place Else, the bar next door, was packed with young people smoking their water pipes and drinking their Red Horse beer. The place must be making great money since it's jammed every week end, and I think it stays open until about 3 in the morning. Again, there are very few ladies who come there alone. Usually, it's populated by tables of five or six people---often men and women---who look like they're having a good time. I suspect however, that with a little game and a little patience, some of the ladies are available.

The good news here is that the summer is over, which means that the nursing schools are in session again starting this week. This in turn means that the deluge of women in white will begin anew.

I was in Davao last week on business and I hired a taxi to take me around to the streetwalkers and Casa's. We spent about a hour and visited nine places. The best sw site was Victoria Plaza and the best Casa was Sawsu. The sw were asking around 1500 LT and the Casa's the same. I found one really hot sw, but she said she was 18 and the gay pimping her asked me why I wanted ID and I told him that she looked 16 and he said, well don't ask the age. Whatever!!! I stayed in the Marco Polo and there was no way that I was going to take a girl who could be questioned. At every site I would say there were at least 10 girls and some had 20. My taxi fare was 120P and I gave the driver 100p tip.

I took a 20 yr old from Sawsu Casa and she was awesome. She wouldn't allow pictures, but I have contact number for anyone who is interested.

Thanks Robbaf for the report on casa. This is a scene I have little knowledge about.

When I/people refer to Central Bank it is actually all of Tionko street. If you drive down Torres and pass K1 and the thai place (it is on your left) you take a left right at the high school. First you see the older girls. They are normally also on the streets off Tionko street. Think they are named Arellano street and Mapa street. As you travel down Tionko you will see groups of girls with their mamasans sitting there just waiting for you (r wallet). Many of them are skanks and they normally have a horrible attitude, but some are sweet. As always. Make the deal with the mamasan and make an effort to remember her name if you need to "motivate" the girl. The mamasans come down hard on the girl if she gives you trouble. They will normally ask 1500 for the younger girls. 1000 is no problem. 800 requires some dealing. 500 can work if you are a returning visitor. I normally always pay 1000 and make everyone overwhelmed by happiness and motivation. I see it as an investment in my future. The older, I. E. 25+, will start and end at about half of that of a 18 year old girl.

I have visited C Bank many times over the years but the SW: s interest me less every visit since there is a big possibility one will end up disappointed on her performance or attitude. If I go pro I want to go pro all the way, and not hassle with some tattooed teenage mother that needs to convince herself that she is better than this using a crappy attitude and every possible moment to get off the hook or text her friends on the corner. I need actresses or gf: s.

I got a call Thursday while I was in Manila, from a friend of mine who lives here in Davao. He's an American, and had a restaurant in New Orleans that got wiped out by Katrina. He's now semi-retired, and takes consulting assignments from time to time from groups or individuals opening new restaurants. He'll do the menu planning and oversee the kitchen for the first few weeks. He called to invite me for dinner at a new restaurant, for which he developed the menu and the recipes. It's called Grub, and it's located on Duterte St. just down the street from Galleria Hotel and to the rear of Gaisano South mall.

The place has been open for about three weeks. It's very attractively decorated and the owners have obviously spent some money on the furnishings and decoration, and they have just as obviously had some very professional interior design advice. The menu is unlike that of any other in Davao; a bit eclectic and not at all expensive. Entrees include crispy chicken, ribs, fish and chips, beef stew, and sauteed vegetables. There's a chicken fried steak sandwich, a meatball sandwich and an egg and cheese sandwich and three pasta dishes and there are two desserts; Homerun pie, which is made with peanut butter and chocolate kiss, which is a very rich pastry.

Did I mention there's also a seafood chowder, served in a bread bowl, and an enormous grilled pork chop? The most expensive single item on the menu is Php220 and the two of us ate for under Php700. The bread is all home made, as are the desserts.

The food, or at least the food that I sampled was acceptable, but not outstanding though the service was excellent. The owners, who also did the cooking were gracious and very friendly. The parking in that area is not abundant, but I assume that most of the folks going there from this board will not be driving, and any taxi can find it easily.

I was told repeatedly that as soon as the new flat grill arrives, in two or three weeks, the restaurant will be serving Philadelphia Cheese Steaks. If that's the case, and if they're real Philly Cheese Steaks, I may become a devotee.

We went last night again to Henny's place, De Bonte Koe, which is not exactly earth shattering news, since we've probably been there about 200 times. From time to time however, I forget how good the food really is. I was reminded again last night with my steak tartar. Now to my knowledge, there are only two places in town where you can order the dish--as least only two where I would eat it--Claude's (Cafe de Ville) and Henny's. The steak tartar at Henny's is, at least in my opinion, far superior.

Henny's and Claude's are, again in my opinion, the best restaurants in Davao and the quality of the food is extremely consistent at both places. I go to Claude's when I get a strong craving for French food, especially duck, and I'm rarely disappointed. I go to Henny's when I want really good beef, cooked properly.

There are new restaurants in Davao opening all the time, and when the new SM and Ayala malls are completed, there will doubtless be even more. But these two remain for me, the best in the city for European food served well.

Been following this thread for awhile ... thought everyone would find this article interesting re: LE environment in Davao:

Death Squads: A Murderous Plague
by Kenneth Roth

Posted May 20, 2009

When does closing one’s eyes to mass murder become encouragement? The Philippines present that question head-on. An electoral democracy with a vibrant press and competing political parties, the country has moved beyond most aspects of the Marcos dictatorship. But at least one legacy of that dark time remains—a dangerous willingness to use execution as a clandestine tool of government.

Until recently, the victims tended to be leftist party members and activists as well as sympathetic journalists and clergy. International condemnation led the government to curtail these extrajudicial killings, although the failure to prosecute the perpetrators remains worrying. Today, attention is turning to new categories of victims, mostly poor and marginalized, such as alleged petty criminals, drug dealers, gang members and street children.

The death squad capital of the Philippines is Davao City, the nation’s third largest city, located on the southern island of Mindanao. The city’s long-time mayor, Rodrigo Duterte, is famous for projecting an image of being tough on crime. Yet despite his hands-on approach to governance, Mr. Duterte claims ignorance about the so-called Davao Death Squad, denying that it even exists.

A recent Human Rights Watch investigation made a mockery of his denials. Nine insiders described the machinery of death. Current and former Davao police officers and local officials select the targets and equip local thugs with handguns or knives. Riding a motorcycle without license plates, the death squad members approach their victim in broad daylight, often in busy markets, and with no attempt to hide their identities, kill him in cold blood. The killers then nonchalantly drive off, confident that the police, who had been warned of the murder and thus conveniently absented themselves, will take their time to return, and will then perform at best a perfunctory investigation. Witnesses are too terrified to identify the death squad members for fear of becoming their next victim.

More than 800 Davao City residents have fallen victim to the Davao Death Squad over the last decade, and the trend is accelerating; 33 were killed this past January alone. Moreover, death squads have now sprung up elsewhere in Mindanao and beyond.

Mr. Duterte’s response to this epidemic of murder in his city has been cagey. While denying any connection to death squads, he announced this past February that if you’re a criminal, “you are a legitimate target of assassination.” No translator was needed to understand his drift. President Arroyo, who once appointed Mr. Duterte her adviser on peace and order, only recently began to confront the ugly reality of the death squads.

Mr. Duterte’s denials would be one thing if there were serious questions about the existence of the Davao Death Squad. The lack of evidence that Mr. Duterte is personally directing the killing is beside the point. Rather, his denial of the undeniable signals to death squad members and those directing them that he is willing to cover up for their murderous activities. The death squad members are not stupid; they can read between the lines. Mr. Duterte’s blinking at reality suggests a nod and a wink.

Sadly, given the continuing inadequacy of the Philippine justice system, many Filipinos seem to accept the need for such brutality in approaching the nation’s crime problem. But it’s not only wrong to summarily take someone’s life; it’s also extraordinarily dangerous.

Contrary to expectations, the Davao Death Squad has not reduced crime. In the decade since it began operating, crime in Davao City has mushroomed ten times faster than the population. That’s not surprising, since contempt for the law breeds further lawlessness.

Moreover, once the police start playing God, the temptation becomes enormous for them to expand the class of victims. Today, the city’s supposed low-life; tomorrow, political or personal enemies. As Latin America of the 1980s showed, the business of death squads can consume a country, creating an environment where no one is safe.

So it is time for the Philippine government to move beyond unconvincing denials. President Arroyo took a first step this month by ordering the police to “get to the bottom” of vigilante killings. Her powerful executive secretary, Eduardo Ermita, added that “criminality is a social malaise that can never be remedied by such executions,” which he called “illegal” and “immoral.” The test now will be whether the Philippine government takes these strong statements to heart and launches vigorous investigations and prosecutions of those behind this murderous plague.

Kenneth Roth is the executive director of Human Rights Watch.

kenneth roth should send his daughter to walk through paris, new york, berlin, london, etc at 3 in the morning. she would be raped and robbed. 100% sure. why do the west keep on pointing finger to asia?

there is no evidence that an increase in crime rate has anything to do with this kind of way of dealing with the scum and druggies. this "conclusion" is only made because the rest of roths "report" is just based on his personal view of how the world should work. f*ck the so called democratic ways where normal people have to lock them self in their prisons (barred apartments), old people can not even walk the street in broad daylight and teenagers have robbery and beating up people as a hobby.

if we, like good utilitarianists, look at the “accumulated bad” in each system we can only come to the conclusion that roth should focus on his own neighbourhood instead of clinging to his colonial attitudes towards asia. that train left many decades ago, so forget about teaching the rest of the world how to live! asia will eat europe and us the coming 20 years and i know where i will be.

who is roth to criticise duterte when he is documented as being one of the worlds most popular leaders for a city, area or country ever? asia works for a large number of the "normal population" - more that most western countries can say about their left wing democratic melt downs.

As usual, a single article does not convey an in-depth understanding of the situation here, and to do so would probably take all of the bandwidth available on this forum. Though what's said in the article is largely indisputable, it's important to put the issue of summary executions into a much larger social and historical context as illustrated by the following two points:

1. Prior to the ascension of the current local administration in Davao, the city was dangerous, crime-ridden, and destitute. It attracted little investment, was poorly managed, and a volatile, unsafe place to live. Since the current administration has taken over, the city has become totally safe, and is attracting enormous investments that in turn are creating jobs and enhancing the overall quality of life for local residents. The justice system of the country is utterly corrupt and ineffective, and the alleged death squads are a testament to such ineffectiveness. The fact is that those who get killed are those who would otherwise plague the citizenry, threatening to return to city to its prior state.

2. The problem is not unique to Davao or even to Mindanao. This is an extremely violent country, and disputes of all kinds tend to get settled with guns. Davao has gained notoriety in this area only because the Mayor makes no apologies for his approach to law and order while other, less forthright politicians hide behind the veil of circumlocution and lies.

For me, the bottom line is that Davao has become an excellent place to live. It's clean; it's safe; it's relatively uncongested and, in in relation to other places in the country, it's booming economically. Part of the reason that the city has begun to attract so much investment is that it's perceived as a stable, safe region in which to do business.

Thanks for the feedback. I've never been to Davao, but have been reading the forum because, if I'm not mistaken, there are (or were) direct flights from Taiwan, where I'm based. Anyway, balance between the article and feedback jibes with what I've seen throughout Southeast Asia. Benevolent dictatorship usually turns out to be the best form of government. (Singapore is a good example.) I'm certain all of Phils would do best with an all-powerful, intelligent, and benevolent dictator. Only someone with that level of control can get at the root of so many problems. And hold his own against the Catholic Church, which is outright evil, in my view. Good for Davao, that they may have found something resembling a local equivalent.

Just be careful when the current police chief is replaced, or the death squads go rogue. This form of governmental control attracts all sorts of characters, and can turn sour in the wrong hands.

Well said, and of course you're correct. So far though, the situation appears to remain under control. As to the replacement of the Mayor, no worries. His daughter will likely replace him. Remember too the dynastic nature of politics here. Offices get passed around like appetizers at a cocktail party, with the tray going from father or mother to son or daughter...no newcomers need apply.

as ge mentions. discussing the full extent of this would take up far more bandwidth than it deserves. ok, i was exaggerating a bit but let us just say that the ones that like western cities filled with crime and drugs can stay there, and the rest of us can visit asia.

singapore is, as mentioned, a great example of what can be achieved when humanity in some cases is put aside for the best of the majority. did it never amaze you that these crimes are often executed in western societies where everyone have money? no one needs to kick anyone in the face for a cell phone. it is just done because people are sick and free to do whatever they want. it is not crimes related to survival, but crimes related to drugs, inflated egos or just plain boredom and depression.

i unfortunately spent most of my life in western cities so i am not totally lost when it comes to the saturday night scumbags scouting the streets for victims. why don't you visit amsterdam as a good example where freedom and liberalism has had a decade or two to prove it's colors? the bar owners are all armed since the crack addicts routinely try to mug them or their customers while the legal system is just doing. correct. nothing as always!

i am no florence nightingale but have contributed way more than most visitors to the needing in davao. this was done thanks to the climate for companies and visitors that duterte created. so just pointing finger at the absolute harshest part of his policy is like focusing on the mosquitoes while the elephants slip by.

the horrible living condition of those homeless children is not because of the guns, but because of the [CodeWord123] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord123) western countries have been a part of for 400 years. the guns are not that expensive and their presense allows some of us to come back and reinvest. this is not about killing children, this is about creating a working society that allows me and other to invest and create wealth, also for locals. a win-win situation.

but for gods sake. be my guest and stay in europe/us and point finger to asia. twenty more years and that will be the the only thing the degenerated europeans and americans can afford.

We've probably done this topic to death and I apologize for prolonging the death throes, but there remain a couple of comments I want to make.

Virtually all of the problems in the Philippines are attributable to the overwhelming poverty and to the corruption that is its breeding ground. All of the myriad social problems can be traced back ultimately to this root cause. The sad fact here is that it's not in the interest of politicians and the feudal lords who run the place to alleviate the conditions which allow them to engorge themselves continuously and to perpetuate themselves in power forever. The odds on a young, impoverished Filipino rising about his station in life through dint of talent, hard work and creative energy are extraordinarily small, which is why so many intelligent young people will do whatever they can to get the hell out to where there are actual opportunities.

In Davao at least, there's an overt, successful attempt to create a working civil society from the maelstrom that is most of the rest of the country. One can perhaps criticize the means by which this is being done, but with so few alternative mechanisms available, I'm not really sure what other viable options there may be.Without meaning to be condescending, you really do have to either live here, or to have spent quite a bit of time here to understand.

Situations such as those that prevail in Amsterdam are, in my opinion, what happens when civil society confuses freedom with license, and most social control is loosened to the extent that the right of the public gets sacrificed to the rights of individuals.

Just my two pesos on the state of the world.

I was reading the posts about poverty in Davao, and in the Philippines. Very few people understand what poverty is about, and what causes it. Most blame the wicked west for sucking the poor places dry.

There are three primary drivers of poverty. The first is endemic corruption. The second is unstable government. The third is an ineffective land administration system.

Endemic corruption causes poverty because it means that the decisions on award of contracts etc are not based on best value, but on who pays most. Mahatir Mohammad in Malaysia solved this problem by charging everyone ten percent. Of course the really corrupt senior politicians like GMA also suck very large amounts of money out of the economy.

Unstable government causes corruption because it means that investors won't invest unless they are sure that their business will remain.

Ineffective land administration causes poverty because when the system is like that in the Phils, title is not assured, then banks will not lend against property to leverage wealth. In developed countries, about 80% of the total wealth of the country lies in the value of property owned.

If any one of these exists in a country, then there will be poverty. In the Phils, there is all three. And the politicians will not change the systems because it is not in their interest.

singapore is, as mentioned, a great example of what can be achieved when humanity in some cases is put aside for the best of the majority. did it never amaze you that these crimes are often executed in western societies where everyone have money? no one needs to kick anyone in the face for a cell phone. it is just done because people are sick and free to do whatever they want. it is not crimes related to survival, but crimes related to drugs, inflated egos or just plain boredom and depression.

i unfortunately spent most of my life in western cities so i am not totally lost when it comes to the saturday night scumbags scouting the streets for victims. why don't you visit amsterdam as a good example where freedom and liberalism has had a decade or two to prove it's colors? the bar owners are all armed since the crack addicts routinely try to mug them or their customers while the legal system is just doing. correct. nothing as always!

i am no florence nightingale but have contributed way more than most visitors to the needing in davao. this was done thanks to the climate for companies and visitors that duterte created. so just pointing finger at the absolute harshest part of his policy is like focusing on the mosquitoes while the elephants slip by.

the horrible living condition of those homeless children is not because of the guns, but because of the [CodeWord123] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord123) western countries have been a part of for 400 years. the guns are not that expensive and their presense allows some of us to come back and reinvest. this is not about killing children, this is about creating a working society that allows me and other to invest and create wealth, also for locals. a win-win situation.

but for gods sake. be my guest and stay in europe/us and point finger to asia. twenty more years and that will be the the only thing the degenerated europeans and americans can afford.

regards,

barbamy godness, where have you been? you will have to search for trouble in paris and berlin. if you lucky you might find some skinheads if you really try hard and in paris it takes a ticket to the suburbs to find what you state. i do my walk in north paris and enjoy the nights, berlin is safer than a pi police station. i do not see your increase in danger.

last week in nyc was not bad either. felt fine in manhattan, the real danger were obese women. they slip and fall you're done.

the rambos in davao keep a nice distance from foreigners which i do appreciate. i also walk back to my hotel after that nice show down in my favorite disco on c m recto. never a problem, admitted.

i like a small restaurant (cheap place but ok food) near victoria plaza. the kids in the area live on the waste from macdonalds customers. hunting for left overs from the tables.

i just had returned to town, went to the old place around 9. 30 pm or so. two small kids, brother and sister approached, the girl half naked. well i bought them dinner and the kids were happy to watch tv during dinner. i felt totally helpless with the situation. the girl asked for some dress as she was half naked (3-4 yrs old at best). i arranged with the waiter, who knows me, that she would buy stuff for her the next morning and meet with them up. nothing great i did, just did was my jetlaged mind could figure out. next morning to a small place on the coast where food is best and other nice things happen too. perhaps i should have adopted the two right away. at least my mind would be at peace, which it is not since then.

really bad it got when i read about the murdering of street kids by the davao task force and their killing expeditions to tagum etc. they are not against those criminals (guilty until proven otherwise. easy task with a bullet in the head) but against the poor and those who spoil the nice picture.

in other words, the two small kids are in lethal danger. the davao task force might be welcomed by those who are working locally for the big companies and macro economic analysis (if we may call that apologetic talk this way) might offer some excuses. the basic issue is murder and human rights. these standards are not up for discussion. making qualifications just suggest that some guys have gone 'local'.

by the way, there are some minor issues with some misbehaving teenagers (loud kids) in the small town i like. but that is just their jealousy when i walk by with four pretty girls. no kidding. davao is after all a little tame.

The bar owners are all armed since the crack addicts routinely try to mug them or their customers while the legal system is just doing. Correct. NOTHING as always!Im not sure how long you spend in Amsterdam but i lived there for about 30 years. And I think you description of Amsterdam is totally wrong. Sure you can get drugs and mushrooms easy, sure it a liberal country, but no bar owner is armed. Coz one thing is illegal in Amsterdam and that is beineg armed.

The number of robberies of bars is close to zero.

I also visited Phils 5 times already and in most provincies I never felt scared.

I won't comment on the other issues raised.

I'm coming to the Phils next week, staying til late August.

I've decided to spend the first 2+ weeks in Davao, then do a bit of island-hopping and visit Cebu, then back to Davao.

I already have at least 25 girls there who I have contacted through sites, and now have their mobile numbers.

One in particular I will meet the first night I get there seems a guaranteed score, but it seems like she wants to see me whenever she's free. She works til at least 7 every night, 6 days a week, and depending how much I like her in person it might be good to have her as my regular.

But I don't want to limit myself to just this one girl - not looking for a girlfriend as I only separated from my wife a few months ago and just not into the idea of a long-term relationship.

So what I want to know is, what are the options for daytime mongering in Davao?
Do the bar girls work during the day also, what are the massage parlor options and other possibilities?

I'm staying a way out of the city, so I'd also be interested in hearing about short-term hotels in the city that I could use for mongering.

Would appreciate some advice.

Broko it was a long time ago, I admit. Mid 90: s. I am totally un-updated. And perhaps my and my buddies "state of mind" did contribute to us being targeted. And maybe we did search for trouble in the sense that we did not avoid a certain areas (is this actually "searching for trouble"? ). I remember one crack head targeting me and one friend. When we walked in a coffee shop the owner just showed a baseball bat and the annoying crack head went away. When I talked to the bar owner he told me that this was an every day routine since these guys would always try their tricks on tourists.

Twice I experienced that crack heads picked up a piece of plastic, staggered across the street and bumped in to me and "dropped the drugs" and requested me to pay for it. They followed us until we once again got tired of the blabbering and walked in to a coffee shop for a drink.

At one time in A-dam me and my friend was threatened by a man in a madras! Yes, all nude and a foam madras around him. "Give me your money or I'll kill you." I asked him how he would do that. If he would rub the madras on us until we stopped breathing.

Another incident I saw was how a guy, with no embarrassment, was stealing bikes in the middle of the day. About 30 people around. The only one that said anything, including the two catatonic cops 100 meters away, was an old lady leaning out from a window shouting at the young man. The reply from the bike acquiring man did not sound friendly or understanding.

Well I could go on about those incidents I saw in just a few weeks in Amsterdam.

Or about coked up guys in the night life industry (door men as well as visitors), well known teenage gangs robbing 5-10 victims per week end with no direct consequence, bikers living next to the law and retiring at the age of 45, various crime families or constellations inventing debts to people, east Europeans scouting residential areas for houses to break in to (and they do get broken in to), etc. All in societies where this is not really required to survive or feed your infant baby. In my opinion it is out of hand. No real consequence and this invites people to keep f*cking up the life of ordinary citizens.

This is quite an interesting study. Some years old, but still it indicates that some of the riches democratic countries have an unreasonably high crime rate. http://www.unodc.org/pdf/crime/eighthsurvey/8sv. Pdf

I have been in many weird places all over the world and, if my recollection is correct, the only places someone ever tried to rob me was in the Mexico, US, Amsterdam, east London, Copenhagen and Milano. And some other super lame attempts in Europe. And once in a rough place in Venezuela when the light went out in a bar and I just had to take a leak (stupid I know). I never handed over a cent but the pure fact that people try indicates that there is a lack of motivation to stay on the narrow road.

I have off course been robbed by the government as well, but then it is called progressive taxation and double taxation. LOL. When it comes to "recreational violence" I would imagine Scandinavia is extreme. Fights would be a regular part of the weekend fun for many teenagers, and even amongst adults the atmosphere is quite often very tense. Men with inflated egos, to much alcohol/drugs in their blood and no sex fight it out after 3 when all bars are closed. Hell they have every reason to be depressed and beat each other up. Beats another Saturday wank off in your depressive two room shoe box.

I moved around in the so called toughest areas in Davao, and never ever did anyone even omit the "sir" when talking to me. Sure they might bend their backs due to fear of Duterte and due to a history of being occupied, but I still prefer this to what I most likely would face in Neukölln or Clichy-sous-Bois.

I am biased by my infatuation for Asia and judge western society to hard. I should not make comments about places I did not visit recently, but I still find it amazing that so many in the west believe themselves to have so much to teach Asia, and yet Asia has been functioning as societies for so long. Pure luck?

I did not know that Dutertes death squad kills children. No sane person supports this, of course. Neither do I.

Guitar man, if you look at the reports of distinction covering Davao you will read about Plaza Roman, mall hunting, short term hotels, etc. The solution to your day time mongering is all there just waiting for you to find it.

Ok, time to hit the road so over and out from Barba for a while.

Hmmm. if you go by the lack of contributions to this page you'd think that not too much happens in Davao..lol

Anyway, for what it's worth an update on my mongering of recent. I have been back this time nearly two months and have found an exceptionally beautiful, just turned 18, live in gf....who always wants to fuck....

Tall, athletic, perfect tits and a pussy at the beginning..so tight it was like fucking a virgin everyday.....

Anyway, the hectic rate of 'relationship' fucking has settled down and I now have surplus for extra short time fun...

Again, met lots of girls on-line and have fucked about 8 of them.....

I also passed through Manila on the way here and spent 2 nights fucking P4P ..I dont know why I bothered.......no challenge and I dont care what anyone says, a bargirl's pussy has had literally miles and miles of cock through it....doesn't compare to the non professional and willing girls that are so easy to meet.

Im trying to limit myself to one extra encounter per week but haven't been successful..averaging about 2....

Davao is a really great place for mongering.......

GanglesAgreed, good estimate of the situation.

I can add one more reason for poverty in the Phillipines.

The first is their annual growth rate of population, almost 3 %!

This means that the population of the country roughly will double in 25 years from 90 million to 180 million. When you add the fact that the country cannot produce enough food now for the 88 million living there then you can maybe see a disaster in the future and at least poverty for long, long years to come.

There are a few alternatives you might try. I suggest Red Knight Garden in Guadelope Village, since it's got efficiencies, as well as one, two and (I think) three bedroom apartments, plus a small pool, decent grounds and an acceptable, if somewhat small restaurant. You can get an efficiency there for about $15-$16 a night for a monthly rental, and I do not know the cost of the other, larger apartments.

There's also a place called Drifters, that has only efficiencies. It's got an even smaller pool and an English pub. It's a bit further north than Red Knight, but it's newer and I have friends who stay there nine months at a time and love the place.

There's also a place called White Mansions on Bakaka Rd. It has a pool as well, and I know someone who stayed there for years, but I've never been inside the place so I really don't know.

You have hundreds of options in Davao. I bum around just to check places out, and find many good option for less than 1000 peso a day. Many of them never mentioned on ISG. My number one priority is privacy. I do not want 10 pair of eyes staring me down and I do not want to become friends with the staff. Neither do I need wannabe_five_star_European_standards_staff. They never get it right anyway, and the formalities just annoys me. No I am not a perverted creep, I just save the fancy places fro wife and stay in these relaxed privacy-options when I am on my own.

Besides GE: s info, Casa Ruby is also an option. They have a couple of houses and one studio type option. Last I checked they where 45 000 peso a month for their big apartments, including Smart Internet connection. A bit over the top in my opinion, if you looking for a budget option.

http://casarubydavao.com/

I stayed in their house and that means no privacy. Sort of awkward to bang a 8 month pregnant teen all over the room, and then sneak her out the next day.

One good place for finding cheap apartments is here: www.davaosale.com.

You can get cheap rooms at C5 dormitel. Not so bad considered the price and very private when I stayed there. Close to Marco Polo.

082-2286186, c5dormitel[at]yahoo.com

You can also try this one: terraromana[at]yahoo.com. Nice apartments in Bajada. Furnished and unfurnished. Price ranging from 10 000 and up, depending on furnishing and how long you rent for.

I have looked at this myself. I did not end up doing it in Davao because i just found the city too boring. But i remember looking on google and found a lot of nice houses and apartments for very cheap.

My opinion is book into a hotel you can be comfortable in for 2-3 days. Spend several days visiting and checking the place out before you ever make your decision. I think the rule of thumb for the Philippines is dont pay for anything until you have inspected the merchandise.

Tower Inn I always enjoyed as well and good option. Its about P1000 a night and about P850 for small single bed if you really a cheapo. I consider Tower Inn in Davao the best hotel accomadations/location/ and comfort that money can buy in Philippines for the P1000 rate. Its near down town and about 3 blocks fom Doctors Hospital and about 5 minute walk to Peaples Park. Its on the main Street as well. Surprisingly they Have a Tower Inn in Pasay City which I do NOT recommend. Yes of course its girl friendly as well.

Thanks to all for the replies regarding apartments. I'm going to be with my wife, son, and the helper. I'm willing to dish out a few bucks for a decent place. Not over 40, 000p though. Anyone famaliar with the Rosal Apartelle?

G. E.: The Red Knight Gardens. Do they rent just rooms or do they have monthly occupancy? I checked out the website and seen rates per day. Nothing per month unless I didn't see the other links.

Tower Inn was horrible in my opinion, but maybe I got there on the bad attitude and shit-smell-day. Location is good, I agree.

Red Knight will give you a monthly quotation. A few percentages less than normal rate. If your looking at up to 40K I would absolutely advice you to take a less established option than those monger holes. RKG is perhaps not the place I would take my family, but then again maybe I was there the wrong day. Hell, you can get a newly built condo for 30-35K a month.
princess_qj[at]yahoo.com have some various option. One suite in Bajada and some condos out towards Ecoland. Nice fenced areas with various distractions such as pool, tennis, basket, etc.

Just as a reference, I had a two bed room apartment with kitchen and bathroom for 6500 peso a month. It was not a bad place. Not fance, but clean and efficient. I left it because the land lord was extremely curious and I did not feel I had any privacy. And I wanted to see something new. Just time to move on sometimes. I am sure you know what I mean.

Good luck in your search.

Red Knight offers weekly, monthly and yearly rates as well. I have a friend and colleague who has been living there for two years. I am not familiar with the Rosal Apartelle. Where is it located? I've never heard of it, which means nothing really, as the only apartments with which I'm familiar are those in which friends and acquaintances have stayed.

The Php40,000 you cite in your post is about $850 which would work out to about $28 a day. Assuming that you want a two bedroom place if you're accommodating four people, that's probably somewhat on the low side, though you might be able to get one at Red Knight for that amount.

Barba, I just sent you a PM with my new private number. Give me a call if you want to get together again for some food and wine.

I just glanced at Barba's assessment of the Tower Inn and decided to edit this post. I agree completely with him; the place is a hole. Dragon Slayer stayed there once for a single night several years ago when he could not find any alternatives. He said he had what they told him was the best room in the place, equipped with a small bed, cement floor and a TV that he said looked like it had been there for 30 years.

For the first time in a long time, I had dinner at Swiss Deli with some friends. Since the place is about a 5 minute walk from my office and I probably eat lunch there three days a week, I do not normally consider it as a place to have dinner. However, the Davao Kidayawan festival starts tonight and I assumed the downtown area around Henny's and Claude's would be a nightmare, so we decided to eat north of the downtown areas where there would be less congestion.

I had the mixed grill: a combination of small portions of bacon, chicken, pork, sausage, and mashed potatoes and most of a bottle of Bordeaux Superieur. All in all, it was quite good (particularly the wine). The service was prompt, without being hurried, and the food was quite acceptable. As the upstairs was crowded, and we had a group of nine, we ate downstairs in the wine cellar, and we had our own dedicated waitress. I think the entire bill for the nine of us, excluding the wine, was Php2,200, or less than $5 a person, which by any standard is pretty reasonable. Even with the wine at another Php1,000, it was hardly excessive.

This was the second time today that I had eaten there since I met Xman for lunch in the outdoor smoking area (I smoke but Xman does not) earlier in the day. It's always good to see X, and we had not seen each other for more than a year.

GanglesI have always wondered about Poverty and the dynamics of 3rd world nations. Yes, as a Westerner visiting the country you are considered RICH. But, how rich are you?

Yes, it is a poor country, I think the presence of Wealthy Phillipinos and also foreigners do drive the prices up. In America, the minimum wage is appx $60/day. To get FS with a non-skank 20-30 year old street provider costs $60. One day's wages for one lay. (This is for 30-60 minutes of her time). Most are ugly skanks, but if you look long enough, you can find a pretty decent looking one.

In the PI, the average wage is $2/day. Yet the price of FS with an amateur from the street is 500PHP = $10. This is 5 times the daily wage. Granted in the PI you get 90 - 120 minutes for the payment and it is with a younger woman 18-25 who is certainly more attractive than our american SWs. In the PI, the 500PHP includes a "foreigners price premium," I think I read that the local price is 200-300PHP.

Fact: The wealthy elite get all the money, in fact, the wealthy in PI are wealthier than your average American. He who has the money, has all the pvssy. So wouldn't the wealthy Phillipinos suck up the most attractive Pinays and leave those of us who are less wealthy with the leftovers?

The "wealthy elite" in the Philippines constitutes a very, very small percentage of the population, and a huge percentage of that small percentage is concentrated in Manila. I wouldn't worry about them sucking up "the most attractive Pinays..." There simple aren't enough of them. There are basically three classes of elites: the Spanish-descended Filipinos and the Chinese-Filipinos. Both of these groups possess enormous inherited wealth. Then, there are the politicians, who regard all public transactions and public resources as personal property to be used for their own gain.

I'm confused - as is often the case... The doctor tells me it is NOT alzheimers...but tells me to drink less.

I thought the topic was poverty and it's causes! How do we go from there to "the presence of wealthy Pilipinos and also foreigners drive the prices up"...of sx workers?

Dang, I hate it the way those wealthy Pilipinos do that.

? Wait, if these elite are a drag on the economy, as we suspect they are, they are not driving UP the price of sx workers. Quite the opposite, I would think.

I have no reason to celebrate the poverty in the Philippines - it is sometimes a very shocking thing. But as long as it exists, I will enjoy my holidays there, confident that my spending is helping the economy.

Maybe that is the next topic. If the primary reason for many people to visit is that everything is cheap (and they can score easily), is that part of the solution or part of the problem?

X

I have always wondered about Poverty and the dynamics of 3rd world nations.

So wouldn't the wealthy Phillipinos suck up the most attractive Pinays and leave those of us who are less wealthy with the leftovers?

x man, i just now stumbled upon your comment:

of course i agree with everything that barba says, except for the part where he says, "no, i am not a perverted creep".

lol, you have me seen through my attempts to fake a normal facade behind a family and a normal job.

speaking of perverted. i have (had) this one girl on the team who is 5 months pregnant now. she has a shitty attitude but keeps on referring to herself as my gf. one of those girls that rarely smiles and think this is normal. orders tons of food from room service and pigs away. still pretty and elegant when you see her, so quite a contrast to hear her oink away on a bowl of chicken. she claimed to have been raped by her cousins friend; hence the pregnancy. yea right. "are you mad at me honey? " "does it matter, since i pay to fuck you anyway? " well, in her world she is my gf. i could not help myself but to tell her that a real gf takes the load in her mouth and plays with it before she swallows. maybe mean but i was tired, hung over and a bit annoyed at her constant nagging about extra money for this and that. however no improvement in her attitude, even though sperm is supposed to be rich in folic acid and proteins. or was it the other way around? folic acid is good for the swimming team? i forgot, but either way she just got worse after taking a facial. grumpy and demanding. still loves me and still text me 10 times a day. but has this aura of negative energy around her. and i found some nasty wart looking thing close to her lower lips. not a winning combination.

her sister married some rich gloomy, miserable japanese fart (that i met once), so i guess she has seen what a real pro needs to endure. facials and then some. and she is prepared to sell out as well for a new cell phone and a life where she never has to lift a finger.

i decided never to put my dick anywhere in her again. even deleted her number and ym not to get tempted to call her in after a bucket of morning beers at cogot. now tell me isn't that normal?

all the best from barba

Yella Man1 1/2 years back went to Camiguin and I got re-certified and a family member did the open water course. She had the manual and the DVD in advance and then completed the course in 2.5 days. We stayed right by the dive shop at Secret Cove. PM me for more details, a bit of a hike from Davao, and you would be advised to bring a gal.

The best of the three shops is, in my opinion Carabao, from which I've always gotten excellent service. I think the shop owns five boats, so its always got some dive trips going out. Their instructors, as is the case with Wind and Wave, are okay, but only that. The best instructor in Davao is Henny Smits, the owner of De Bonte Koe. He's more expensive, but gives individual lessons and you will be a much, much safer and more knowledgeable diver if you take your course from him. He's ex special forces, and he's PADI certified to teach every course that PADI offers. Some of the dive shops offer courses taught by Dive Masters, not instructors, and this is against PADI regulations. It's also not very safe.

Anyone who wants to know how to contact Henny can PM me and I'm happy to provide his phone number. My strong advice for neophyte divers is not to look for the cheapest route to certification.

Yes, there's a small dive shop on Paradise. I've rented tanks from them, but the problem there is that at Paradise you're limited to diving immediately offshore, and there's not a lot to see. The dives are relatively shallow and the current is fairly strong, so when you come up you may be hundreds of meters from the beach where you started, and it's exhausting to have to trudge back to the starting point with all your gear. I would not recommend it highly unless you're burning to dive and have no alternatives.

My best diving here has always occurred when a small group of us--maybe ten people--rent a banca for the day and go off ourselves to dive. Virtually all of the dive shops will pack as many people as possible onto a boat, and it's a hassle changing into and out of the gear and then waiting for the boat to collect all of the divers at the end. Plus, unless you're with a friend, you might not find an appropriate dive buddy. Maybe I've gotten more conservative as I've gotten older, but I'm all about safety. I want to know the person with whom I'm diving and I want to have some reasonable confidence in his or her skills. When I was diving a lot, four or five of us would go down together and hang out as a group on the reef.

This is very good advice & applies everywhere I have dived in the world. Dive shop dives are always rushed/crowded. Lost track of the number of times a dive was ruined for me by being buddied up with somebody who was willfully stupid or completely unconcerned with safety.
Back when I first started, before getting certified diving, a bunch of us friends would organise a boat & a bit of gear & go do the dive. We learned safety & trust 'on the job'. When I certified (PADI 1981, god i feel old hee hee!) it was a shock to be dragged on 'organised' dives - YUCK!

When I certified (PADI 1981, god I feel old hee hee! ) it was a shock to be dragged on 'organised' dives. YUCK! I am also an avid diver, hence the name Water Boy.

As for private tutoring versus group tutoring: the group tutoring is alot cheaper and just as effective. The only plus with private tutoring is that is it is faster. I got my PADI in group and other training one-on-one. The only plus to one-on-one is that the class moves faster.

I learned to dive before I got my C-Card, just as did Amavida. I think going out on a private boat for your first dive is a pretty risky way to do things, because safety is a bit more lax on the informal dives.

Organized dives CAN BE boring for the experienced diver, yes, but only after your first several dozen organized dives. What AV & GE says is true, but it only applies to experienced divers.

While, personally, I hate cattle boats (organized dives). I know that they are exciting and interesting for a new diver. Don't listen to AV and GE, Yella Man, you should do your first dives on the cattle boats. These are much safer than than the self-chartered excursions, because there is safety in numbers. Plus, consider your first dozen or so organized dives as part of the training process. On the cattle boats, they are very safety conscious and they make sure you follow all the safety rules. This drills the safety rules into your head.

As for shore diving. It is harder to do than boat dives, because you have to fight waves and you get sand in your gear. Plus you have currents to contend with. With boat dive, if you get carried off by the current, at least the boat can come get you. Shore diving usually offers less "pretty things" to see than boat diving. HAving said that, I find myself doing more shore dives lately, because of its simplicity and some great dives. Hold off on shore diving until you get experienced.

Water Boy, I understand your point, but in the Philippines, or at least in Davao, I don't agree. I've seen how the "group training" works here, and it's often conducted by unqualified trainers (usually Dive Masters, not Instructors), with too few trainers and too many students. Again, in my view, it's unsafe, and I've gone diving with a few of the "products" of such training whose view of buoyancy control seemed to me that it was nice in theory but didn't work in practice. I spent an entire hour-long dive going up and hauling one of of these folks back down to reasonable depth and finally just gave up and held her down for the balance of the dive.

I once saw a single Dive Master here take down five people at once on an exploratory dive. There's no way, had more than one of them gotten in trouble, that he could have attended to them.

Most of the decent diving in and around Davao takes place in Davao Bay, where there are some very nice reef walls. What you tend to see most are lots of tropicals, snakes, the usual lobsters and schools of fish. Sporadically, I've seen tuna, rays, and turtles, but not often. I've had some great drift dives across the faces of the walls at about 20-25M, which is about the ideal depth for diving here. At 30M and below there's not that much to see.

No...he can't teach every course PADI offers...according to PADI Asia Pacific.
And you are right about DM's teaching courses against PADI regulations...but... an instructor signs off on the final paperwork and no one is wiser. Students do not know if they learned correctly as they have nothing to compare it to...it's best to ask around, get recommendations and go with your gut instinct...ask diver's who have been certified and diving for a few years for recommendations.

Good point. My comments only apply to dive training in the USA as I do no know anything about training in the PI. As to training recommendations, I will defer to you.

As well, I have not been on an organized dive in the PI, so I hope that the PI is like other countries organized dives. Despite my loathing of cattle boats, I still feel it is a cost-effective and convenient way for Yella Man to get his first dozen or so dives.

I should add that the cattle boats in other countries are less strict about safety than USA. This varies from country to country.

Sometimes you have good pussy and BBBJ's and other times no! But there is always another day! Thanks Ben2. I heard there are a lot of Phillipina nurses, and it is good to have one around in case I need someone certified in "mouth-to-cock resucitation." I will have to interview many phillipina nurses to find the one who can provide clinical-strength services in this area. I enjoy a post-dive cleaning of my pipes as a medically indicated way for me to delay the onset of the mini-bends.

It has been my experience that a town with good diving means a town with limited pussy. It's tough to go down in the morning and then find a chica to "get down" with in the evening. You must pack your own lunch to these dive towns. Perhaps Davao and Pattaya are exceptions to the rule.

We went tonight, as we do every couple of weeks or so, to Claude's (Cafe de Ville) and, as typically happens whenever we eat there, I reminded myself why I'm willing to spend Php6,000 on dinner for two....to feel coddled, civilized, and at peace. I had the escargot with shirred eggs to start, and she had fettuccine with small clams; I followed with duck a l'orange, and she had some sort of prawns with sauteed potatoes. She had pana cotta, and I had creme brule for desert, followed by coffee and Calvados (courtesy of Claude) with the whole thing washed down by a lovely Sancerre Rouge. The dinner took more than two hours; we dined, rather than ate; the place was full and Claude was turning away lots of people for lack of tables, and it was worth every peso.

Between Cafe de Ville and Farfalla (opened recently by Claude's daughter), there's ample opportunity now in Davao to really dine if that's your thing. I've eaten several times now at Farfalla, most recently Friday for lunch, and, though different than Claude's, it's got a similar very European ambiance. The daughter has learned well from her father and has created a lovely place.

Last week, I had the pleasure of eating at Farfalla with Barba, among others, and he too thoroughly enjoyed the place. Two weeks prior to that, we had dined together at Claude's.

These restaurants are, admittedly, not going to suit everyone's tastes. But for those who crave real French and/or Italian cooking, and who do not mind paying for the nice table cloths, the fresh flowers, the candles, and the intimate atmosphere, these are the places to go.

Yes Farfalla is indeed worth at least one visit every week. Good food, good wine and beauties to rest ones eyes upon. Soon enough the staff will have been trained to not fill the glasses and lift their feet when waking. What a challenge.

The fact that the kitchen stays open until midnight helps. I often like to start my dinner at 9.30-10 PM and by then most other decent places closed.

Great meeting you there the other night GE. Hope I will be back soon for a rerun.

One word of advice: stay away from Pico Bello in Gaisano Suth. Just about everything was wrong. The Styrofoam ball on my pizza did not help the over all impression of this dump. Never again.

Once again I was surprised by the numerous massage places around San pedro and Querino. Surprised since I always perceive Davao as almost_out_of_P4P. I have seen some quite mature females hanging around Ladystar in the afternoon.

On the back of Plaza Roman on Cabagio you have a bunch also before 6 PM. The live there and can accommodate your need for massage just about any time. Ask the guard. They are not so pretty either, but once in a while there can be a hottie. 1000-1500 is what you can expect to pay. 500 if you bargain.

In Hotel Galleria the front desk can arrange erotic massage with a woman they have the number to. I never tried but made an inquiry once.

I advice you to go to any massage place around Gaisano South. Buy a regular massage in the open rooms with many beds and start to joke around about erotic massage. You will notice that one or two of the girl laughs less nervous and look at you a bit longer than the rest. Ask her if she do in call massage to the hotel and get her number.

Do the "now time for the front side"-routine if you get a room with just one bed.
These girls massage on provision and makes only 40-60 peso some days, so if you text them about making 1000 peso many will come in minutes. Quite often the massage is very good and strong as well.

Around Central Bank you have girls from 2-3 hours after the sun sets. STD central many says, and yes many are pretty skanky, but if I am edgy and can not be bothered with one of the regulars I once in a while get a hand job or more from one of the little teens. I do it rarely and the outcome is always the same. They do anything to get off the hook and I get relieved but disappointed. Pinoy rate is 200-500 peso. You can as a white man bargain hard down to 500-700 pesos and 400-500 after 2-3 am, but I never do. Always pay 1000 flat rate and 100-200 tip if she is slightly friendly. Such small amounts makes no difference in the big equation. If they do - stay at home! Mamasan takes up to 60-70% direct and then rent, electricity, water, etc for the shit holes they stay in (I visited one a couple of years ago). I collect their numbers and sometimes call them in during the day for a "massage". 500-1000 direct in their pocket is a lot. You just need to play the "do not tell your mamasan"-game so that she feel safe to come visit you without the mamasan scolding her for not using the mamasan "protection service". The mamasan makes enough anyway and I never cared much for brokers in any form.

Maybe goes without saying but be nice and behave, even if the girl are poor and in bad need of money. A shitty attitude just fuck things up for everyone.

Over all not a very exciting scene for P4P or massage, but a pro can be found any time of the day.

Barba

But as X also points put you should expect to find 10 ower weight and over the hill skanks and 10 tatooed teens with craters in their front teeth, for very 2 sweet hearts. Now in Davao. I can't say much for the clubs because I haven't bothered. Initially, my DIA contacts didn't pan out very well - probably because of the holidays.

Street action: as has been reported before you can find it here and there. Victoria Mall parking lot after hours had quite a few -- at least one that I was tempted to take, San Pedro street -- but this tends to be low quality, etc.,

Luckily, I had something really nice in my little black book from a previous visit. She's late 20s and has given birth, but really does her share of the work when it comes to copulation. Also charming, humorous and damn nice to look at. I bought her a bikini and it was well worth the 800 pesos. Oh, and numerous single sisters...I might invite the whole bunch of them to the beach tomorrow.

Hotels: Apo View and Galleria (full reviews only if requested since I've reviewed both in the past two years)

I stayed at Apo view Hotel where on a clear day like today you can see Mt. Apo, the highest mountain in the philippines, as well as the hideous backside of the downtown Gaisano mall. Best reason for staying here is the pool.

Galleria; I like the location and I like the big balcony on the top floor.

I think the pizza at Spirale is orders of magnitude better than that of the Grand Regal.
