I gave up on DIA after 2-3 days and now I think I made the right decision. Having said that BIG THANK YOU to David_33 for passing on my phone number to the students that wanted to suck cocks. As he accurately described them. I have been busy with work so I haven't had the time to do a full report but in short one in particular turned to be a stunner that was not shy at all. Had a good session of grabbing and kissing in the lobby restaurant in Shagri La, an interesting session in one of the changing rooms in MOA as well very enjoyable time in the taxi and the hotel room. Peaty she was a virgin and wanted to stay that way. Different kind of fun, enjoyable and sort of unique in many ways.
Like you I hate havana for the fact that it is outdoors and the heat gets to me. I prefer MBC for the FL action or the nightclubs / discos. Burgos though is my fav place in Manila although for daytime fun MBC is great too considering options are limited. McD.

If you read what I wrote more carefully you would see I was talking about bar girls not filipinas in general. I use to be in banking and I know quite few rich and smart filipina business women. Even girls that I have picked up from malls or elsewhere, normal girls have some idea and concept of saving. The go with the flow, leave for the moment attitude is very typical for a filipina bar girl. You look at other bar girls / pros other then the filipinas and up to some extent thai chicks everywhere else they are smarter and have figured out that their days in the industry are numbered and need to save up. Thats what gets me. I can't work out why a bar girl that makes good money can't own her own place in the shanty where most of those dumps cost 100 000. 300 000 peso. Funnies thing is they even leave together. I know one group of 5 chicks leaving in a 2 bedroom "appartment" where each pays 2000 peso rent. When I asked how much would it cost to buy the place they said they don't know but when I spoke to the owner that leaves downstairs he said places like that go for around 300 000 peso. Now this are 5 chicks working and making at least 30 000 peso a month each. The could buy a place every 6 months if they only put their minds to it.

For those of you visiting Manila at this time of year.
The traffic is horrendous and if you can find a taxi it will still take you triple the time to get from (say) Burgos to Greenbelt (or vice versa). Forget going to MBC or from Malate to Makati in any decent time before 11 or midnight.
I know of 3 Burgos girls (my faves) who are back in the province until after New Year so the pickings could be slim as the popular girls all have enough cash to take a break.
I was at Havana last night from 10. 12 pm and there were at least 5 tables empty right in the middle. I have NEVER seen it so quiet. More guys than girls.

You should check out havana.
Great Eastern. No, never stayed there. But looking at the map, it is near Kalayaan (near Best Western) and it is away from Greenbelt, and you are closer to P Burgos girlie bars. And generally, apart from the bars, that area is a bit of no-go for me.
Better to grab a cab to MBC or Havana.

Havana Pointers.
I had two trip this past three weeks. One over the new years, and another Jan 13 through 15th.
Ok. I have been to Havana several times the past 3 years. Actually, been there quite a few times and addicted to this place. Not just the Pinay's but the food and environment.
Havana Cafe is located in Greenbelt 3 in Makati. It is in between Starbucks and Seattle Best Coffee. For the kid who says he was lazy to walk to Havana from Starbucks, you were in the wrong Starbucks. Keyword in finding this Cafe is Greenbelt 3, Makati.
1. Havana does have a dance floor and sometimes a live band. It is inside. The tables are moved out later at night. During day time, it is a full fledged air-conditioned dining hall. Great food.
2. You will find a few girls during the day time. But for most not worth your efforts. Go somewhere else, if you are a day hunter. You might fare better at Robinsons Mall.
3. Caveat to daytime at Greenbelt.If you are good at picking up girls, Starbucks Greenbelt 3, right next door to Havana Cafe. Waitresses at many of the restaurants in Greenbelt 3 are great potential. Just have the guts to talk to them.
4. Seasoned hookers, working girls are there early in the evening on to catch the early birds. Basically the guys who most likely would pop. 5000 for an hour or two of bliss.
5. You will see a more varied stream of girls arriving after 9 pm, peaking somewhere between 11pm and 12pm.
6. Girls start leaving after 1 am, as most guys have gone back.
7. Most of the girls at Havana are hookers. Make no mistake of this. I have explained this in my other postings.
8. If you have picked up a girl once, expect to bump into her again on your next trip to Havana.
9. Be brutal if you don't want to be with the same girl. Tell her you want someone else. Sometimes, they will get another one for you. Afterall, they are hookers.
10. For those saying it is too much work and expensive, baloney. I seriously doubt you have tried Havana more than once. Lowest I have paid for 3 hours is 1500. Most 2500 for all nighter. Key is negotiate. When you negotiate, they will tell you you, give me whatever. Pay them 2500, inclusive of taxi cab fare.
11. Time spent is time you spend having a drink or two.
12. The food in Havana is great. I recommend the adobo kambing. Goes with the surrounding and couple of beers.
13. Do not let the girls order. You order, and only for the girl you are interested or having a conversation with. They do have a tendency to pretend they are going to the bathroom, but will place food and drink orders on the way back for themselves on your behalf for everybody at the table. If they get up and leave, make it clear, NO Ordering!
14. There are nice and pretty girls, and very fuckable girls, cheap at Havana. Ones that will give you a fullfledged GFE.
15. Girls on the periphery. As I took a walk one day, a girl from Seattle coffee got up and started following me (after I made eye contact). Definitely not a regular. Homely looking, but great body. I was not into it at that time, as I was headed to meet another girl.
16. Greenbelt 3 where Havana is located is a happening place at night. Other Cafe's and restaurant are also good sites. Spicy Fingers is where all the Call center folks go to. Plus some hookers.
17. My recommendation is just walk around. Enjoy yourself. Before you park your ass in one place.
18. I just cannot imagine paying 1500 to 2000 for barfine, and then deal with girl for anothe 2000 to 3000. I could do a 3 some for this at Havana, which I have done on 2 occasions. A total cost of 5000 for an all nighter 3 some with everything imaginable done except for anal and rimming.
19. And yes everybody knows, girls at Havana are there for one thing. I think all of Makati and Manila knows the drill.
There are many hotels within walking distance. Those interested in paying $100 bucks or so, I strongly recommend the New World Hotel about a few steps from Havana Cafe. I am going to be staying at the New World shortly (got a deal for $87/night), so naturally I was planning to check out Havana Café, Greenbelt 3, the Icon Bar, Roman Suites, and Burgos i.e. all of Makati. It's my first trip to PI so I want to see as much as possible. I have even lined up a couple dates on MFC. So much ground to cover, so little time. I don't even know if I will find the time to get over to EDSA let alone the KTVs on Quezon Ave. I'll have to play it as it comes.
So I will think of you while I am eating some adobo kambing and admiring the girls at Havana. LOL. Thanks.

-KKepp: If you are only in town 3 nights, and staying in Makati, just stay there. Hotties can be found all over Manila. EDSA is quite a taxi drive away (45 min. To 1 hour daytime. 30 mins night after traffic lightens).
Havana Cafe, freelancers. 1500-2500 pesos will get you LT. The girls often don't discuss money up front, and are fine with whatever you give them in the morning. Burgos girlie bars will run you 3000-5000 for LT, part of that is the barfine and part is the amount of tip the girl will negotiate up front. Streetwalkers on Burgos will be happy with p1500 for LT. This way you never have to taxi all over the place on a short trip.
If you have more time, try Malate city. EDSA there is similar to Burgos girlie bars in price. Manila Bay Cafe has freelancers that will cost 1500-2000 for LT.

Roman suites is close to New World hotel so this is also easy to check. Thanks for tips Natty!

There is a traditional Thai massage join right behind New World Hotel. It is called Ton Ton Thai Massage. As you step out of the New World, make a left, and another left, walk past New World to the back of New World, cross the street. And go left, about a block on your left you will see a sign. 250 Pesos for 1 hour. 500 Pesos for 2 hour. Ugliest looking girls in Makati, but they have strong hands to make your scream.
Above Havana Cafe are bunch of restaurants. To the left of Havana, past Seattle Best Coffee, at the next building is Spicy Fingers. If you are there on Tuesday evenings, there is a decent live band.

I travel to Manila every month or so for business, and always stay at the Shangri-la hotel there. Below are just general observations and comments on my overall experience. I'm back there next week and will submit more detailed information then.
HOTELS.
I find all the hotels to be girl-friendly or at least girl-neutral. This includes bringing girls back any time of day or night, or having a bar girl "drop by" after their P. Burgos shift. At most, security will call up to the room to verify that you are expecting a "guest". I usually send them down on their own after the deed, as I don't want to get out of bed. No problems with that either, and I tell the girls to have security call the room if they feel the hassle factor.
HAVANA.
I usually start my evening here, only because its usually too early to go directly to P. Burgos. I rarely pull a girl from here because I have jetlag and can't bother with all the fake flirting, etc. But the scene is hopping all night, most nights. I will say that the girls tend to be in packs and you have to separate the one you like from her leech-like friends. There are some stunners, but also a lot of mediocre girls here.
One other observation: This is one place that I would recommend going with a wingman. It helps with the multi-girl at a table vs. Single guy issues, gives you someone to talk to between scanning for the right girls and the atmosphere is not as supportive of lone table occupants.
P. BUGOS.
After Havana, I usually grab a cab to P. Burgos. Depending on the time, I have the taxi take me to Jools. Arrive at Manila airport 10. 20pm. Flight was great, as although booked business, the plane put on was first / economy only, so in effect a free upgrade. Last night I made it back again after a successful trip last December mainly due to the great info on this board. SteveI guess places change over time. By the sound of it AC is where you should go. What I have noticed in Manila a lot of the girls need to get back home before the morning as they leave with their families etc. AC that is not the case. Negotiate and make that clear at before the bar fine. I think a combination of factors always determines whether to spend the $. Certainly, atmosphere is key, and I usually avoid places that are empty, where the mama-san is too pushy, or where the girls do the "who gives a shit' shuffle on stage. I do not know the exact reasons, but they told the girls not to come to work and many of the girls are trying to get jobs in other bars. I remember that Jools was shut down for a while for under-reporting income (and taxes) last year. Usually, they open up pretty quick once they pay the fine / bribe the right officials. It could also be that the general malaise and lack of punters on P. Burgos is finally catching up with these places. I can never figure out how some of them stay in business, year after year, seemingly without any customers. Maybe they are used for money laundering or something like that and paying customers are not a priority.

After a dozen or so trips this was the first time I left Manila to go to AC (see my post in the AC section) and after coming back I had an even greater appreciation for Makati and the girls on Burgos.

I'm not going to disagree with anything here, but I would suggest that if you know a place, and know some gals, and have sure thing set up for the night, you might naturally have a good night. Then again, if you go someplace new and have to do a bit of work, you might not see the advantage. If you compare Mr. Hunter's AC adventure to a night of a regular in AC (or Cebu, or DV, or?) I suspect that the descriptions will be similar.
The wide variety of choices in the Phil. Allows for lots of discussion here at ISG, but also leaves room for lots of research for those with the time / money / motivation, or some combination. X.

I had a lot of action so everything together may add up but for each individual transaction please point out where I am screwing the market up. If you read my Makati report and my AC report you will see that my whole point is I am saying for good looking girls with nice personality I do not think that there is that much of a difference in price all in.
In regards to my Makati report please explain to me how I am causing bar fines to escalate as I think I made it very clear that I did not bar fine a girl this trip in Makati (AC a different story, but the setup is different there). The closest I came was paying to close the curtains at Wow Wow Wow.
Let's look at what I spent and you can tell me what I paid over the market, bearing in mind that these are good looking girls with good personalities (and I know for a fact a few of them often get more than I pay but we have fun together and I treat them well).
Girl 1. At Wow Wow Wow. P1, 500 to close the curtains and a tip of P2, 000 for screwing her. (granted maybe I tipped P500 more than I should have but whatever, it was the first girl of the trip and she was far hotter than one normally finds at Wow3). I also bought her a P300 drink and P120 beer for me.
Girl 2. Burgos girl who skipped work thus no bar fine. I took her to dinner as I needed to eat and I like company. Think dinner for both of us was P1, 200 and then we watched the show at Jools. A drink each so P300 in total. So far dinner and drinks is only P1, 500. Not that much for a night out. She spends the night with me. I give her P3, 000 for her time, but I did not pay a bar fine. She is a real looker and has a great personality so I think this is reasonable.

My question, which I raised in my AC report as well, which I genuinely want to hear others opinions on is why they prefer AC to Makati. To me it seems that AC is only a little bit cheaper yet is more difficult to find great girls (however some people might like that challenge) but lacks some of the immenities that a city like Makati offers.
I do not doubt that one can have a nice time in AC, and relatively speaking I had an OK time, and that it would be superior to hanging out in Manchester, Milwakuee or Perth. My question was more on a relative basis weighing AC versus Manila.

If you barfined then tipped from Burgos it would have been far more. And you did the girls a favour as they kept all the cash. And you are considerate in that the payment would be considered good by the girl and is in the price range I would recommend to others if asked. Except the really cheap charlies (I know a few). Also MBC has never rocked my boat and while cheaper there, the quality IMHO is lower.
EDSA has cheaper barfines and maybe more quailty but then you still tip the girl (that assumes we are all gentleman not cheap charlies) but I see nothing wrong in these prices.
Remember there are girls who are far cheaper and far more expensive in Makati so we all have a choice.

Not sure of all the reasons, but I don't think it's because of punter over-paying. Maybe our esteemed Japanese, Arab and Korean colleagues can be blamed for paying sticker, but most punters, except for absolute newbies, know the going rate and act accordingly. My own take is that in a down economy, the owners are taking a very counter-intuitive approach: raise prices to make up for less customers. I would have dropped prices to increase volume. In the end the BFs are what they are. Customers are welcome to spend or not as they like, and go to another bar, neighborhood, city or country that offers a price and service combo that appeals.

In Makati you have contacts hence you skipped the bar fine in AC you paid it. In AC I often pay 1000 peso for girls that see me in their day off and I overpay at that. I could have them for 5-700, in Makati my off duty girls see me for 1500-2000 so again half price when rightly compared.
I don't adjust my behavior just because Burgos is more expensive. A night fun in AC which consists of me barhopping in 5-6 bars drinking 2-3 drinks in each and buying at least 1 ladies drink for a girl in each bar before the usual end of the night take out in AC would set me back usually around 5-6000 peso (inc 1 bar fine). On burgos the same thing sets me back 12-14000 peso. My average day spend in AC is around 10 000 peso. Manila around 20-25000, in manila the only thing different would be I like to end the night in a night club (disco) with my takeout as oppose to AC where there are no descent clubs. Like I said I don't care about the money it doesn't make a difference to me but I think you are way of your mark when you say that Makati and AC are simular price wise.
For me the main attraction to AC is the convenience. Its all walking distance and 24/7. I also like that I can have a descent hotel withing 2-3 min walk from the bars as oppose to Burgos. Yes there are some fine hotels in Makati but they are located a few min taxi ride from burgos. For me time is of essence and I don't like wasting it in taxis unless I am getting a blow job (love MBC girls for that). I am not into Havana or chasing tail via the dating sites (have done it and still do it sometimes but not my sport) I prefer the P4P scene. Makati would be ideal for me if there was a better hotel near Burgos and the bars were open and stocked with quality all day. Except for Rogues which has some decent girls working the day shift the other have older 30+ leaches that will drain you for a drink and a tip as soon as you enter the bar. I normally like to ST 2-3 times during the day so Makati doesn't provide the shopping opportunities for me. I have contacts that I can call up on and I am happy with that but in AC you can just walk the perimeter bars and find quality. Malate during the day is a better option but then you lose 2hrs in a cab up and down. As for shopping and other fun. I am not there for that. I don't care about the shopping centers, Thailand and other parts of Asia have far better shopping for cheaper if that is what you are after. Taking a girl on a date? Well AC has the cinemas too, there are few day trip options as well, subic, the lake etc etc.
If you are looking at Makati vs AC in terms of all round activities then hands down Makati. If you are looking at it from pure mongering perspective AC is the better option. You will find quality in both places, I agree in Makati is easier but only beacuse of the prices. The second that AC starts charging Makati prices you will drive away 80-90% of the clients and then you can barhop like on burgos with 2-3 punters in each bar and all the hotties waiting and fighting for your dollar. In AC on the weekends you can't find a room sometimes, which means there are 2-3000 tourists roaming the bars like you and able to complete with you at those prices. Once you have been to AC few times and have worked out how the place works then you will have more fun and be able to find the right girls easier.
Perfect trip for me is 4-5 days in AC followed by 2-3 days in Makati / Manila followed by 2-3 days in Boracay or other beach destination with the discovery of the trip or an old flame. If I have less time then Makati to begin and end and few days in AC in between. I prefer week days in AC when there is less punters around and weekends in Makati when there is more fun to be had. Manila can get boring as well during the week especially if you have been there for few weeks.

I will be going to Manila for the first time in late April and staying in Makati and I'm interested in any recommendations that ISG members might have to make. New World Hotel was excellently situated walking distance from daytime entertainment (beautiful ladies in the Greenbelt) and night-time encounters in Greenbelt. No real reason to stray, as Cuban Cafe and surrounding offer hundreds of choices.
Night 1) made the trip to Burgos and eat excellent, meal at Ziggurat. Strong recomendation as food is GREAT. While dining, two lovelies strolled by and waited (stalked) me when I left. Enjoyed a double massage at my hotel for 1500 pesos.

Thanks for all the help. They have slips of paper on the counter for you to write down what you want if the pharmacy assistant intimidates you. It helps for when they cannot understand your accent. You could also bring a note from your hotel of course. Small pad beside your phone. (This is not exactly rocket science, but I am paid big bucks to work in the Phils and give out this sort of complex advice) LOL.

1) Tell any old GROs to leave you alone if you do not like them, but do it in a polite way. Sometimes I may spend a few minutes talking to one just to get her opinion on some of the better looking girls in the bar and then send her away. Most of the old GROs have been working in bars for years so they can smell fresh blood and will quickly try to extract cash if they think they can.
2) You friend should have marched the girl back to the bar and complained, most mamisans would have made things right and given you another girl.
3) Avoiding bar fines is not that hard in Makati. Just get a girls number and meet her outside work.

That's for an all-nighter. Outside of those places you could have had an all-nighter for 1/4 to 1/3 that price. DIA gals are often happy with 1000-1500 in their purse in the morning.
6K for 2 hrs is a lot even for EDSA and Burgos. I doubt you got a model from one of the high priced escort agencies so I say you got done well. Next time book near P Burgos and hunt around there. You will spend the same cash but get an all nighter

Also, the Manila Peninsula is quite posh but not sure if its as high as Shangri-La Makati. There is also the Intercontinental and Dusit Thani.

The breakfast buffet is very good. I do not believe the Shangri La Hotel is worth more than $100 / day over the New World. It's crazy.
2. I think Makati is best for you, and if you stay in Makati for two days, I promise you won't be bored. You will have a night at Greenbelt 3 & Havana Cafe and a night on Burgos Street. Be sure to check out Rogues (#1) , Jools, & Ivory Bar.

My first afternoon in town after I arrived from AC, I took a walk round Makati. From the New World Hotel I walked around the Greenbelt malls and I came to the Philippine Stock Exchange. Then I walked through Ayala Triangle to Makati Ave and Paseo de Roxas. I continued walking up Makati Ave past the Mandarin Hotel hoping to find Burgos Street. Coming directly from AC; I was very impressed with the wide palm lined boulevards, the high rise buildings and cleanliness of downtown Makati. It was not what I was expecting. Then I came to Jupiter Street, the demarcation line, and I knew I was leaving the “Green Zone” and Burgos Street must be close by. I continued on for another block and a half until I saw Burgos Street on my right. I scouted out the locations of all the bars I had heard so much about. There were a few SW’s about even at 3pm that gave me the look. I liked what I saw and knew I was going to have a good time here later in the evening. I thought yeah, Burgos has real potential. I never made it to the squatter-type area you mention above, but I can imagine what that is like.

Though I live in Davao, I get to to our office in Makati about twice a month, this time for five days. Perhaps I'm just developing a greater longing for true urban environments, being a city boy and having been in Davao for seven years, but I'm starting to appreciate the "green" areas of Makati more than I have before; it's an island of civilization in the middle of the sea of poverty that is the rest of the country and the city.
Today, after leaving the relative calm of the Dusit Hotel, I went to meet a friend for a late lunch at Italiannis in Greenbelt 2. As I had arrived about 45 minutes early, I sat outside, quietly enjoying a drink, tapping away on my computer (via the free wifi offered by the restaurant) , watching very well dressed people stroll by, and reminding myself how pleasant a civilized urban environment can be.
Later in the evening we met friends for dinner at a lovely Italian place in Fort Bonifacio, and again, the general ambience was so pleasant that I almost forgot for the moment that I was enmired in the third world. Later, as we strolled through a pleasant arcade of trees and bushes to a coffee shop for our evening espresso, I was again impressed by the well dressed crowds, the folks walking their dogs and sitting with them at the outdoor restaurants, and in general behaving like civilized urban dwellers everywhere.
This area of Makati seems light years removed from the squalor, clamor and anarchy of the rest of the city-and indeed the rest of the country. I could probably live here in a reasonable state of contentment for a couple of years.

From what I have experienced with Filipinas, if you come from any country outside of the Philippines, you are considered to be rich, regardless of how you are dressed. Although, a guy dressed in a business suit is probably more likely to be seen as having much more money to spend than the guy in shorts, t-shirt and flip flops. IMHO somewhere in between the 2 styles is probably the best way to dress. It depends what you want to be in walking distance of.
If you like to walk to the mall and enjoy some good food and shopping during the afternoon, then I would stay at the Dusit Thani (though it is a bit on the pricey side) and cab it to P. Burgos (though you may get some barely concealed frowns from the Dusit staff when you bring an obvious bar girl back from those spots, but no one will stop you). The Dusit is also walking distance to Cafe Havana...no shortage of freelancers there at night, and they usually dress well enough to pass the Dusit doorman sniff test.
If you don't mind taking a 5 minute cab ride to the mall for your shopping, then stay at the St. Giles as it is very clean and only one block away from the Burgos bars. At the St. Giles, you are more likely to get a thumbs up from the doorman as you bring a girl back ;)
I've also stayed at the Heritage in Pasay across from EDSA, but I didn't really like it. Rooms are pretty dated, water temperature is almost impossible to get right, etc. It is, however, reasonably close to the airport which is good if you have an early flight. They also have a casino there, which some people like, but I consider it a drawback as girls sometimes ask you to take them there...at your expense of course.
The only other place I stayed at in Makati was the Herald Suites. Price was reasonable and the room was clean, but it was really not walking distance to anything so I would not stay there again as I like to roam.
Personally, I like the Dusit when I have DIA dates coming over and the St. Giles for when I want to do bar hopping. Maybe you can try one night at each and see what you like best?
Try the New World right behind Greenbelt mall. Also, the Manila Peninsula is quite posh but not sure if its as high as Shangri-La Makati. There is also the Intercontinental and Dusit Thani.

Thanks for all the info. I was actually staying for 2 nights at Dusit when I visited Makati for the first time last year. I think it was about 6500 pesos a night, expensive maybe but maybe that is normal Makati price. I think New World is about exactly the same price per night? Also had to take a beer from Dusit minibar and the price was sky high considering it was the Philippines I was in but I guess that it another "upscale" Makati price. 2 nights was definately not enough to see Makati cause I arrived from Bangkok at 4am because of those dam Cebu Pacific schedules, the flights from Bangkok depart around midnight and arrive in NAIA about 4am so I was feeling confused after no sleep at all. Actually I met my online date girl at the airport and then we went to Dusit and I fell asleep for a couple of hours. Then we went to SM mall and walked around, not sure where we were but I remember seeing Glorietta 5. I never saw Greenbelt 3 but I think it was quite close. Dusit doormen were ok, no trouble at all, my girl told they just asked her "how are you" and she replied "I am fine, how are you?" and the guy at the lobby had looked a bit confused, I was told most of the pickup girls are very shy and quiet and might not reply but my date was half american and definitely not a bar girl type. She had an own business and was not an average earner. I was planning to lose the girl and visit Cafe Havana the other night but somehow it never happened and I got stuck with her. One girl was texting me about meeting her at Burgos but I was tired and didn't feel like going there alone looking some bar I had no idea where it was (Filling station).
About Dusit I think it was ok but I might try another place this time. It was next to SM mall but I might prefer closer to Greenbelt, or why not Burgos so I could go there for the 1st time (now we were only driving through it in a cab with the girl who was warning me about it and its dangers). I'd also like to see RCBC plaza cause there it is a small chance I might end up working somewhere there one day. I also visited Robinsons Manila and saw some streets in old Manila close to the bay. Of course I had no idea where I was we just took a cab from Makati to Robinsons Manila and there I was next to Roxas boulevard. Of course the area seemed poorer than Makati but also more interesting and lively. Not only tall buildings and fancy malls as in Makati. Didn't feel unsafe at night (probably cause of a few beers I had drunk).
Now Id like to mainly see Cafe Havana so I might stay in New World or somewhere close. Not sure if I feel like goiing wandering around Burgos alone.

As others will no doubt point out, the Dusit is about 2 minutes by cab and about ten minutes by foot from Cafe Havana, which is quite easy to find in Greenbelt 3. Burgos is less than a ten minute ride from the hotel. You needn't worry at all about walking around Burgos alone, though if you're sensitive to the "sleaze factor," you might suffer some unhealthy side effects. Physically however, you're quite safe and no one will hassle you except to ask if you want a massage, want Viagra or Cialis knock-offs, or want to purchase a range of shoddy tourist crap. I've found the Filling Station-which has been around for years-overpriced and not very good, but I suppose it would be a decent place to meet as it's so easy to find once you've hit Burgos. I stay away from the area as a rule, maybe because I've been there countless times and find it amazingly sleazy and not much fun. Others of course will disagree vehemently with this assessment. If you're going to check out Cafe Havana and the surrounding environs, you might also want to check Hard Rock Cafe in Glorietta and the bar (I forget the name) in the Shangri La, all of which are lots more upscale and less tawdry than the Burgos places, but again it's a matter of personal taste and comfort zones.

HWCouldn't agree more. I rather spend 3000 on the room and 6500 on TWO girls. Anyway, the room is used only for fucking and a bit of sleep before you go out on the hunt again. I spent P7000 in Sofitel on my last day in Manila as a treat to myself. The room was indeed exellent and the bed was the best I ever slept in, but the girl I brougth there just couldn't care less. But I regret now I didn't follow my own advise above.

I see others have commented on LT price vs room price. I agree w / most of the points. But, to each his own. I would say most of us, Regardless of the room cost, We just want to make sure we're paying market rate (for the girls) and not getting ripped off (same would be in Singapore, BKK, etc). I used to be in the Philippines several times a year, and for months at a shot. That doesn't' happen anymore. So I really lose that edge of having 'street knowledge'. You guys all help me out.
As a side point - I would love to see the hotel prices drop - Shangri-La used to be P6000 only about 6-7 years ago. Now you can't get it for less than P12000. I voted w/ my feet and don't stay there anymore. I 've argued even to their corporate about this - why do they pay the Filipino workers LOW Philippine wages - but, charge HIGH WESTERN room rates? It's almost criminal.

I am not saying that it is impossible but I don't know where to find such a hotel. Makati hotel prices just seem sky high to me, what can you do about it. New World and Dusit cost that kind of money. That's actually why I was asking about other options cause I don't want to pay 6500 pesos to Dusit again for a night. I'd rather save that money or even better, spend it on girls. I think there close to Burgos are cheaper hotels? Taxis sometime try ripoffs and theyare so much hassle so I might not like to stay "out of the action" somewhere far where it is cheaper. So I totally agree about paying too much to hotels and girls but when I was first time in Phils last year I just thought the high price was sort of a life insurance cause I had been warned so much about the safety in Manila and I didnt want to book a cheap hotel located in a dark alley.

Later in the evening we met friends for dinner at a lovely Italian place in Fort Bonifacio, and again, the general ambience was so pleasant that I almost forgot for the moment that I was enmired in the third world. There is a very large group of guys who come here for business (and who stay in the 5-star hotels on expense accounts) and who spend a few hours on Burgos and / or look for some hook-ups on the side (sometimes through expensive escort services) but that is not their main purpose in coming here. Many of them don't go anywhere near the bars or are interested in freelancers etc.
These business travellers keep the major hotels (Shang, Mandarin, Intercon, New World, Waterfront & Marriott (in Cebu) , Marco Polo in Davao almost full during the week. Add in the large number of government agencies who hold training seminars in these hotels for 2 to 4 days and you can see that mongers are NEVER going to influence prices to drop.

In CGK, I spend approx. IDR 350. 000 / night on good mid-range accomodation, and about IDR 500. 000 for LT.

It has been a couple of years since I was there, but I stayed at the Aloha Hotel (next to the G Hotel) on the corner of Roxas and Quirino. It was not right in the middle of the action, but well within walking distance. I'm not a very active person, but I routinely walked to Robinsons Mall, MBC, and the clubs in between. I'm not 100% sure I would walk it alone at night, but with the girl beside me, I never felt threatened. It's as if a 95 pound girl was scarier to the local riff-raff than a 250 pound man standing 2 foot taller than her. Anyhow, I always asked for a room overlooking the bay. This was a much better sight than the alternative. I think the original price I was quoted for a room was 3, 500 pesos, and I was able to talk them down to 2, 800. On return trips, I simply mentioned that I was a repeat customer and they pulled up the record of my last visit and charged me the same rate. I did find a nice little bar behind the hotel (next corner on Quirino) that had quite a few lookers. I'm sure they were all available for take out. Most times, I was the only American in the club, but I never felt threatened. A time or 2 there was an older, very drunk foreigner. So I was obviously not the first to find this place. I can't remember the name of it, but it had a statue of Elvis by the entrance.

Thanks for the input, She did offer to let me stay at her family home. She actually lives in Spain now, but her home town is Iloilo. We are planing to visit Cebu for a few days and Boracay for a few days and maybe Bohol also. So I won't be in Iloilo the whole time. I decided to stay at the Westown hotel in Iloilo for the first coupe of days I am there, I am a bit scared of staying at her home with her family I have not met yet (I don't want them hitting me up for money). Plus what if the house is gross.
Now I wonder if it will be worse chances of getting laid by her if I stay at a hotel now. If I am at her house I she can sneek in my room at night.

In my experience, they are hard to get a room with. Even if you make a reservation, they don't guarantee it. I had a room booked with them that I did in person to come back a few days later and was told hours before I was to arrive in a text that they were fully booked. It wasn't when I made the reservation. I went there later and their explanation was that no one checked out to give me a room. I was like why did you extend them if you knew I was coming? That is their policy. Mind you, I have stayed there before briefly. Maybe if I was more regular there, they would have made them move out instead of extending. They could have confirmed though with me by text or call to see if I was really coming to decide. I've gone by many times to check vacancy and it's mostly booked because of their reputation I just wouldn't bank on getting a room there.
City Garden is nice but hard to get rooms during the week sometimes. The elevators are slow given there are only two for such a large building.

Any other suggestions?The difference between Durban Inn and City Garden is pretty wide. Maybe you should be more specific in what you want in regards to your place to stay. You may also want to read up some on the Manila Hotels thread that probably covers Makati also. If your price range is 2000 and below you may actually want to stay in Malate or Ermita which is basically Manila, but it's too much to talk about. Not sure what your goals are in regards to your stay in Makati and price ranges. I'd also read up in the Manila thread. Manila and Makati are a taxi cab ride away anywhere from 15-30 minute rides for maybe about 140 pesos and up for the rides.

I want to say thanks to everyone for the information shared here. I've been locked in the USA doing local travel for the last 4 years and I've finally got my tickets to Manila. The last offshore trip I took was in El Salvador and you can read some of my reports from that trip in that forum. The last time I was in Manila was in 2004 for two months. It was the first time I had traveled offshore for work and as a typical noob would do, I went nutz. I paid and tipped like I was in the states and it didn't take long to earn the nickname Petey Peso. To be frank, the company was giving a straight cash per diem and it all felt like monopoly money to me. This time, the per diem is based on actual receipts so I am going to be more frugal. Do any of you know if you can charge a bar fine in Burgos to a credit card? It would be hilarious if I could truly claim a DATY session as an actual work meal. LOL.
I'll be there for 2 weeks from June 14th to the 29th. The company is footing the bill so I'm staying at the Makati Shangri-La. The annoying this is that I work EST hours, so I'll be at work from 8pm till 5am. My thought is that I go out the first night I get there (I arrive at 11pm) , pick up someone at Havana or at Burgos, but get numbers from girls I meet that night to setup meetings during the daytime when I'm off work. I haven't read a lot of availability for good talent when going out in Makati during the day. If there is a good spot for this, by all means, let me know. Maybe I missed something in the reports.

I replied to you in the Manila thread but thought of something else.
Most bars on Burgos close at 4 or 5 but some will be open until 6. Also, some open between noon and 2pm so you could go before work and get some numbers. However, most of the girls who work a day shift do so for a reason-maybe they need to get home to their parents so can not meet you after work. Even if they can meet you, they probably have to get back to work the next day at noon-which may be a good thing for you because they leave and then you can sleep.

Most bars on Burgos close at 4 or 5 but some will be open until 6. Also, some open between noon and 2pm so you could go before work and get some numbers. Devil 1's advice and descriptions are respectively sound and accurate, and it's a shame more people don't pay attention. I cringe when I see some foreigners here (especially Americans since that's where I came from) , acting rudely. I'm sure all of those of us who live here have witnessed loud, arrogant foreigners who act as if they are god's gift to women and to the country, and who somehow feel they have some sort of entitlement. In Oxford Suites and Millennium Plaza, there are some number of privately owned condos. If you deal directly with their owners, you can sometimes get a good deal, especially for a long-term stay. But do not deal with the landlord named Ivy. She is a known ripoff. She owns at least three condos in Millennium and at least one more in Oxford, iirc.Stayed at Oxford on the way in. 3 star, but trying; comfortable room, could use a little updating, but perfectly fine, they are slowly upgrading some rooms, and you might ask for one of those. Staff are very good, all things take care of quickly, and without fuss. I think if you deal with the manager 3k / night nett is easily achieved, seem to think one fella negotiated 2. 6k for a longer term (possibly 3 weeks). This was ++, so at 60 us nett, this was a good deal in my book. Taxi's are easy, but I more often walked to Makati Ave and caught one there. Usual neighbourhood issues but nothing too out of the expected. I recommend this and City Gardens, which I also visited a mate in. Not sure of the rate there, but would think was comparable.
As a BTW, I got in early, and a flipina friend of mine was staying at Great Eastern, as I was arriving at 5 AM, and she was departing at half 10 for the airport, I asked her if I could just crash with her for a couple of hours. It is just down from City Gardens, and around corner from Oxford. The number of LB's in GB 3 is just ridiculous. I'm beginning to get a complex and my need to change my look as it seems the only approaches I'm getting is from them. Somebody just did a very recent review on this hotel. The bottom line was that it is girl friendly and rooms are nice. The bonus is that they recently opened a club in the building. Finally, its very very close to Greenbelt. I really don't recall if that review was on this website or another site.I just spent a week at New World, it's a great hotel. They are very cool about things, ei brought a friend and 2 girls to pool and my buddy brought a bottle of liquor and beers and they didn't mind that it was from the outsite. Plus one of the girls was wasted off her ass and just an annoying ****. The club below the hotel is called Palladium, I went there a few times. I would not call it a monger friendly club but it is fun if you're still in that party till 9AM ability in your life. The first night I was there I took 2 girls back to my room from there, they were no working girls and they were not thinking 3 some unfortunately I was and I pissed the one I liked off because I slept with her cousin. Havana is right across the street and although it is good, nothing can compete with Manila Bay Cafe, that place should be called the Asian Del Rey. That will be the only place I go if I ever go back there. New World also calls you before they let girls leave the hotel to make sure everything is ok in your room, to some that may be nice to me it was a little annoying.

MBC had gorgeous girls but some girls did not negotiate honestly (she said in the bar that all night was 2, 500 pesos then she changes it to ST when we are in the hotel and she claims that she has a 4am appt in the hospital or she works the night shift. thanks in advance.if you're looking for a nice spa, there is a place at bonifacio high street called "the spa". there are other locations in podium and there used to be one at greenbelt 1 but i'm not sure if it is still there. you can get a massage for about 1200+ iirc but chances are low for a hj.
the ones at the hotels are nice too such as the mandarin, shangri-la, dusit, etc. they are about 3000-4000 and up for a massage and most therapists will give you a hj but they ask for 1000-2000 as a tip.
there are a bunch of home-service massages for 250 or 300 pesos and i've used about 5 or 6 different ones and in my estimation at least half of the therapists will give at least a hj.
there has also been a lot of "spas" popping up around manila that offer a standard hj for a 500 tip and some therapists will do more than that. of course there are also your massage parlors where fs is guaranteed for a tip of 1500+ but neither of those places are ones you would want to take your wife to-with the exception of maybe the one at metrowalk in ortigas. i think it is coed due to its location and you will definitely get a hj for a 500 tip but most likely nothing else. the therapists are very business-like about it-sort of unappealing.

Even though they are high priced by local standards they are still quite affordable. If we run across any places around town that are interesting I will fill out a trip report on them and try to help someone else in the future. Thanks again everyone. First off I will apologize for not reading all post previous to this one, as I was just cruising though the first couple of pages to see what's going on. With that said, I would say that devil gave you some good advise in the PI. ALWAYS make a valiant attempt to give her some money. Mind you not hand it directly, but as the advise was given slip it into her purse or back pocket (my favorite method along with a good buy hug). If she says anything about it, tell her it's just for transportation, or tell her to go buy herself a present, but always give her something. If she will be your future GF, then you can be sure it will come back tenfold. Spend some time getting to know them, and their life and it will all make sense.
