Daddy WB brings up an interesting point that we are all faced with on a first meeting. The "can I bring my friend". Who will just sit there, get in the way of any ambiguous chat, be the targets "protector". And just waste space and money. When a young lady (and its always the young ones who want to bring a friend) I politely tell them that this is immature behavior and not expected from people who are over 18. They always reply with "but all my friends do it. ". At which point I state that yes it happens ni the provinces as they don't know better, but it doesn't happen with mature girls or in other countries.

Yeah I go to Manila for a root and run and from reading this board I would guess I'm not the only one. And if you read my reports, I'm not exactly unsuccessful at this and haven't been for the past 20 years.
So obviously, given the relative success factor, maybe I got something that the 100's of lined up Pinoys don't have. As in charm, job, car, condo etc.
Probably not dissimilar to yourself.
dw, all i can tell you is that in 20+ years of coming here, i've never had any problems at all, and i'm not exactly physically intimidating. it's a pretty poor area, and you get your share of beggars and people sleeping on the sidewalks, but, aside from the beggars--mostly kids--no one has ever threatened me.
i often take the walk from la to g point, which, at my speed, takes about ten minutes, and again, i've never had a problem, nor has my friend here, another american, who often makes the same trip.
as to la itself, you can take a taxi directly to the front door, and then another taxi from the front door directly back to wherever it is you want to go, so you can pretty much avoid all risks of being hassled, except in la of course, where the girls do all the hassling.

close this manila, philippines -- one of three men who allegedly mugged an american tourist sunday night was arrested by manila policemen in ermita district.
patrolling policemen joey clidoro, 28, of sta. monica street in ermita, but his two alleged cohorts managed to escape after they reportedly beat up and robbed steven resick, a transient at the casa blanca hotel, also in ermita.
reports from the manila police district general assignments section (mpd-gas) said the incident happened around 11:30 p.m. sunday, at the corner of mabini and m.h. del pilar streets in ermita.
resick told mpd-gas investigators that he was walking along mabini street when clidoro and two other men tailed him asking for money.
the american said he attempted to shake off the three men by entering a bar on mabini street and seeking assistance from the security guard but he was ignored, prompting him to leave the establishment.
however, clidoro and his companions waited for him outside the bar and allegedly attacked him as he came out then took his wallet with p13,400, his visa card and a new jersey driver's license.
clidoro and his companions only stopped beating up the american when policemen in a patrol car spotted the commotion and approached the group to pacify them.
when resick’s attackers saw the police car, they fled.

Wow, I was in that area at that time on Sunday night. Could have seen the attack and ..... joined in (kidding;)). Couldn't have been an ISG member - most would have more nous than to walk about in Ermita packing that much cash.

In at least 50% of the cases where I have brought some little mocha-chika back to my place. I have regretted the decision. Even so, I kept failing my own IQ test. Until I got cleaned out by a girl I thought I knew well.
Funny story actually. Met a nice girl, she had money, job, good family (whom I met, very solid upper class locals); the works. Was with her for almost a year, it was love; but some things just did not add up once my honey-ko and I were together full time.
Bought and installed monitoring software (eBlaster) on my crappy home laptop. And wow, the shock of it all when it turns out she is basically a prostitute. (a filipina *****? I just couldn't believe it! )
Her real job appeared to be banging guys from the UK and Germany for Western Union payments. I guess they ALSO looked like Brad Pitt. Amazing how we can delude ourselves. And it only took six months for me to come to my senses. Like an idiot. I start sending the "it's over, " vibe just before returning from a business trip. I also call the German guy – he was about to break up with his wife (and kids) to be with this woman – though he suspected there was someone else in her life. I felt I owed it to him – bro's before ho's and all. I made a list of all the guys and contacted them. We are now all good friends.
In the meanwhile, she immediately goes into triage mode. While I was out she tried to break into my office (though the window, the balcony door, and the inside door) with a butter knife. She then "thinned" the place. Half the silverware, half the sheets, towels, dishes; never underestimate the carrying capacity of a filipina with a collection of designer shopping bags. Rice was missing from the kitchen, half the canned goods, most of the boxes in the cupboard later turned out to be empty. Who steals half a box of Capt'n Crunch? LOL It was like someone held a meeting of over-eaters anonymous in my kitchen. Luckily anything of real value was either a) not there, or b) locked in my office. However, for weeks afterward I would find this, or that little thing missing or substituted. (hmmm. Had a nice pepper grinder, now have this crappy plastic thing – hmmm, who waters down dish soap, damn – I had 25 rolls of toilet paper, hmmm – why are all these DVD cases empty? , where is my cell phone charger? )
What I had totally forgotten about was the piggy bank.
I had this big golden Chinese piggy bank in the bedroom and had been stuffing it with spare cash for months – there may have been as much as $5000. 00 in there (various currencies, a 1 oz gold coin, left over cash from business trips to one place or another). I was actually saving the cash to take a nice vacation, or perhaps even a honeymoon as I was pretty serious about this girl. I went to move it, and the pig seemed lighter than usual. Apparently, she had carved out the plug, emptied it, and left just enough change (in sub-peso coins) to make it "seem" like it's anal virginity was intact.
OK – thanks for the therapy. It's good for me to share like this! Obviously, this is an extreme example.
Others have been simple stalkers, girls that would show up uninvited wanting to spend the night, or in some cases; their friends. The lessons here are basically a) don't be an idiot, and b) keep nothing of value in your pad. So if your condo is strictly a fuck studio – then no worries. But if you actually live in it – then strongly recommend you stick to hotels. When I am in the mood for play – a nice room at Swagmans in Malate will run $50. 00 which is a pretty good deal compared to the cost of some decent flatware, a colonoscopy for your pig, or the shitty laptop she stole – which (two years later) still updates me weekly on what it's doing. Well what can I say DW, shit happens! But then again, if you read a news account of a foreigner getting mugged in New York, I bet it wouldn't dissuade you from going there. I still doubt that this is a very common occurrence, and, had I been that guy, I would have tipped someone inside the bar to call a taxi for me and would have given him another healthy tip for walking with me outside with this gun drawn. I'm not condoning the mugging of course, but it does sound to me like the guy might have been able to avoid it.
At any rate, I'm relatively short and relatively old and I'd be easy prey I guess, but I will continue to go there. On the other hand, I never carry my credit cards and never more than Php4,000-5,000, so the pickings would be fairly limited.
Maybe the next time I go, I can team up with Gamahucher and we could protect each other.

Its often discussed here & bears repeating for those new to PI. In this asian culture women have to presere their 'good girl' persona. The friend/relative brought along is just a formality & a way to check you out. If you are happy to go along with this formailty usually the girl will meet up with you on her own next time & you're both free to get on with things.
If you think the girl is worth it, I often find that slow & steady wins the race.. :D

Nope and it has not persuaded me from going to Café. It will be first on my to do list in 5 weeks when my Emirates flight lands. That being said I always analyze a situation before I go into it. Too much time around the military I guess….maybe that’s why in all my travels around Asia I have never been mugged or anything of that nature… :confused:
Last time I was at home I was busy during the day making real-estate transactions so I didn’t have a chance to scope out the area in the day time which is what I always do before rolling around areas at night.
I am short also but I am muscular and I look fierce… the security guys in my subdivision have asked my ole lady am I a Marine. Don’t know if that would have made a difference in that guy’s tragic case.
On another note Happy Holidays to everyone. The world is in an economic meltdown lets all be grateful that while people are losing everything we still have money to buy pussy….:D

GH whenever I am out and about I am always in something stylish (clothing, Armani, Lacoste) and expensive. (Could be growing up dirt poor so now I have a little money I like to flaunt it don’t know :confused: ) I remember a Filipina I used to fuck in Quezon City about 4 years ago said I acted like a woman in terms of my appearance and how “clean” I was.
That being said I use common sense, when I am in PI I only wear my diamond earring and that’s it. Me and the ole lady have been discussing removing that because I like having my earlobe intact. Unless you are sending very strong "buy" signals. Meaning, getting married. Then every filipina will have numerous fall back options. Everyone seems to lose sight of the fact that the PI is a dirt poor country with a culture based on distrust. In the west, if you are a bank teller or operate a cash register it is somewhat assumed that you can be trusted to handle money. There is a reason why each check stand here is manned by three (randomly selected) employees. You simply aren't guilty of doing anything wrong unless you are caught. That's the cultural norm. Management expects you to steal if you aren't being watched.

OK. On to the good stuff. Christmas Eve at the Roman Suites
Had to work on Wed but did bug out a little early for some final shopping and a stop by the Suites. It seemed fitting to celebrate the birth of Christ by spilling less seed on the ground and getting biblical with some cute mocha-chika!

The "no one is trusted" point of view exists all over the country and is nowhere more prevalent than here in Davao. As you rightly point out, the assumption is that if people are given the opportunity to steal, they will, so the one who touches the money is always watched like a hawk. I was speaking a couple of days ago to a young man I know who has recently opened a Japanese restaurant here, and he told me that his customers will be encouraged to use plastic, since he figures whatever he has to pay Visa will more than offset his constant worries about theft.
As to the loyalties of Filipinas, I think that deep down, most Filipinas know that most men are "butterflies," and they assume, regardless of your relationship with them, that given the opportunity, you're going to be screwing other women. This being the case, they have no qualms at all about screwing other guys when you're not around. Added to this belief is the opportunity to possibly make a few more bucks. I doubt that there's anything romantic about the extra curricular screwing--it's just practical. How many of us, after all, have been locked into a bedroom with an adorable young thing who has just screwed our brains out, and within ten minutes of sexual completion answers her cell phone to assure her boyfriend in the States that she's at home alone pining only for him? Have you noted that the major role of the ubiquitous armed security guards, which are found in great numbers in every establishment from stores to fast food restaurants, is to frisk outgoing members of staff. I imagine that, poorly paid as they are, positions at places such as SM must be greatly prized, as they spend a good part of their working day patting down cute, little shopgirls ;).

I recall, a couple of years ago in Thailand, being told by a girl that her cellphone had been recently stolen, and, although she had not one shred of evidence, she suspected it had been taken by a Filipino. Amazing! Apparently, gangs travel over from Manila, with the sole intention to purloin as many CP's as possible. True? Who knows.
I do not carry a wallet in the Philippines (been relieved twice by pickpockets), so I carry banknotes loose in my pockets. How many times have I accidentally dropped notes which have been promptly returned to me by a honest Filipino/a walking behind me? Too many times to recall.

GE in a country where money is so 'hard to come by' is it so unexpected that people watch every centavo? I operate several business's here ranging from service industry to retail. I recruit employees through my social network rather than cold. This means i can place a lot of trust in my employees because they are known & embedded in a socio-cultural milieu which prevents abuse of that trust. I have only had a problem with one person, a guy of course. In general my female emplyees are impeccable & will even come to me if they suspicions about another person. Big employers like SM don't have this luxury so they have to implement systems to prevent theft the same as any big retailer in any country.
* I come form a business family. Back in Australia we have exactly the same concerns about theft prevention as here in the PI. I would say that in general my female filipino employees are far more trust worthy than the Aussie ones.

In my opinion any guy contemplating a relationship with a Filipino woman should come here & live with her for 6 months before committing for a variety of reasons (how strong is her utang? I do not think my perceptions of what Filipinas may think about male behavior has been skewed by associations on the P4P scene. To the contrary, I have met too many thoroughly middle class Filipinas who seem to have the "all men are butterflies" mentality, and too many Filipinos who have several bits on the side to think otherwise. The chasing after "my destiny" or "the one who will be with me forever," is a romantic ideal that, in my experience, has rarely been achieved here--or anywhere else that I've lived for that matter.
I completely support your advice about living with a woman for an extended period before granting even a modicum of trust. Even then, I don't think that it ever pays to trust at the 100% level. Unlike you, I don't know any long-term marriages that are truly happy in which both partners remain fulfilled. Most of the long-married people I know have reached accommodations with each other, but I would not confuse this with happiness.
Maybe we ought to get together the next time I'm in Manila and compare notes.

Ah this is a place of strange almost schizophrenic contradictions. On the one hand some people will rob you blind on the other hand people are capable of great acts of generosity. A few months ago I was traveling in north west Mindanao & got stuck with a flight cancellation, all ATM's out of order because of a fire at a gas bottle station that took out major phone lines, out of load on my cell phone & very low on cash. I needed accommodation for the night & was helped out by a local boarding house owner to an embarrassing extent. Recently my #1 GF volunteered to pay all my meals & hotel bill when i found I had left my ATM card behind. I paid her back of course. She did not hassle me for the money & has never been a leech on me. I have met plenty that do attempt to leech. They're gone because their are too many more waiting in the line to be bothered with wasting time on them.
Regarding getting together for a drink & a 'chin wag' as us aussies call it, yeah, maybe we can catch up some time. In the past I have always been very careful to quarantine my ISG affiliations from my domestic life but since asawa ko vanished a couple of months ago I'm a little less concerned now.

I don't know about the experience of other longer-term expatriates here. I find though that the longer I stay here, the less I understand and the more difficult it becomes to make accurate generalizations. Like AV, I've experienced "the kindness of strangers" often during my tenure here. Conversely, I've been subject to blatant rip-off and scam attempts. My way of dealing with this is to treat each encounter individualistically and I struggle, in each case, not to make prior assumptions, since I could well be wrong.
I agree completely about maintaining a low profile at all times, and trying never to call any attention to yourself. I also try very hard not to divulge any sort of meaningful personal information lest someone try to use it against me at some point. I do not always succeed, and I've embarrassed my asawa on more than one occasion by "losing it" over some exhibition of particularly noteworthy stupidity or incompetence encountered along the way. But I've gotten much better at managing my temper and it now takes an act of egregious stupidity to prompt me to fly off the handle.
One of the problems here is that you never know when a single act that calls attention to yourself will come back to haunt you. I have a friend, locally married and with a kid, who has lived here for years. Admittedly, he's a hot tempered Aussie and hardly the epitome of calm. Once, when flying back with his family, business class on PAL, from Davao to Manila, he got into a loud altercation with a flight attendant who claimed that he struck her. Unfortunately for him, this occurred right in front of Boy Nograles, now Speaker of the House. Within two days the Immigration Police were at his door, found some "irregularities" with his visa, and he spent a month in jail.
It's important to remember that we're strangers in a strange land and that we will never be part of this culture and will probably never understand it fully. Better then to quietly enjoy what the country has to offer, maintain our privacy, be careful whom we trust, and never trust completely.

I am not all “blinged up” when I am out and about in PI I pointed this out in my last post on this thread but I do where nice clothes. I just can’t go out in flip flops and “Tank Top” shirts. My father always taught me to look nice when you are out and about no matter where you are.

it is so important to realize the importance of ‘face’ when dealing with filipino’s. it is similar, but, probably due to latin antecedents, slightly different from the concept of ‘face’ found in china and other asian country. hard to pin down, it seems to me to be encapsulated in the word ‘hiya’, which literally means shame or disgrace. a pinoy or foreigner who plays up or otherwise acts badly (as did ge’s aussie plane guy) is ‘walang hiya’ (without shame, loses face) and is beneath contempt in filipino eyes.
it is very difficult, given the frequent inanities and frustrations inherent in day to day living for expats in the philippines, to maintain an unruffled and ‘hiya’ free exterior (i find a deep breath and counting to ten does have therapeutic qualities), but, again in reference to ge’s salutary tale, it is better to try and retain ones dignity as you do not always know who might be listening in to the obnoxious ‘kano’s’ loudmouthed outburst.
so i would definitely second the concept of a foreigner maintaining as low a profile as possible and to avoid, wherever possible, any unwanted attention. it pays dividends.

I think, in the end, it all comes down to a matter of personal style. We all have them. In my case, I tend to dress expensively, but conservatively, but then I'm no longer young and I have a totally different sense of myself now than I did then. I would never dress in flip flops, shorts and some gaudy short sleeve shirt or sleeveless tee shirt, whether on the prowl or eating with friends in a restaurant in Davao. It's not my style and I would not feel comfortable. For those who like this mode of dress, fine for them.
The one incontrovertible argument, that holds true for everyone though, is never calling undue attention to yourself, and by that I mean attention that you could otherwise have avoided. Losing one's temper, screaming, treating every woman on the street as if she's a hooker and you're irresistible are phenomena we've all witnessed. I cringe when I see it and distance myself as quickly and as far as possible from it, since I do not want the potential aftereffects to wash up onto me.
As to DW's comment about not recognizing the value of Armani, I think the real problem is that there's so much counterfeit crap around that many do not realize the commercial value of the original anyway. In New York, if I wear an Armani shirt, everyone would assume it was real. Here, just the opposite. As an example, last week we went to SM Mall here in Davao, to the Croc store and my asawa and I each bought a pair. The cost of each was about Php1750 or about $37. Two days latter, I passed a booth on San Pedro St. selling what looked like identical (though counterfeit) Crocs for Php300 (About $7) a pair. Looking at two people, one wearing the originals and the other copies, no one could possibly tell the difference at a glance.

Hello Amavida. The observation that I made about mothers was not restricted to filipinos, or to homo sapiens.
The research clearly shows that the training of children in their social and sexual behaviours is independent of race among homo sapiens, and independent of species in the animal kingdom.
Mothers in all countries, cultures and races, pass on their social and sexual values and paradigms to their children. And they do it, not by verbal cues, but by facial expression. So a mother can be telling her son to respect women, but her facial expression can be saying the opposite.
So, if you want to change the social and/or sexual behaviours of men, the place to start s their mothers.
Pinoys mistreat their women because their mothers trained them to do so.

I was in Manila on December 24th and 25th and wanted to post a short trip report.
I flew in from Seoul, South Korea on Asiana Airlines. The flight was somewhat uncomfortable to say the least, since I was seated next to an obese Korean man, however, the flight was only around 3 1/2 hours or so to Manila, so it was over before I knew it.

There are many live-ins and lady-only dormitories in the slightly down at heel locality and this is where many of the EDSA Complex bargirls reside with Harrison’s Plaza being their daytime hangout. So there tends to be a lot of available girls hanging about. I know that street, I have walked through there a couple of times awhile ago with a local pinay. It is one of the main streets of commerce in Pasay. I think that is an important distinction. It's also the primary reason most board posting rules discourage qualitative comments about another's choice in a companion. Let me put it another way, one thing for certain that have learned in my years in viewing pictures on this and other boards is......"one man's ceiling is another man's floor".

Yeah I noticed that too. I was in Makati one night and some of the girls said they just wanted to hang out so I am like cool. After the bars closed we met up at Seven-Eleven and they looked rough as hell once they left the make-up and glamour clothes.
On another note I don’t know why people jumping on the guy. I feel like him sometimes but beauty "is" in the eye of the beholder. Some guys go for quality instead of beauty. One thing I have learned is that the truly beautiful girls know that they are beautiful so they always drive a hard bargain.

It's been a couple of years since visiting Manila and here is my report..

for the more esoteric and adventurous mongers out there who are always looking for a change from the tired and tested, i thought that i might add this offering about a recent trip to binondo. i went with a couple of filipino buddies (this is an area best visited with a wingmen or two).
we first had a tremendous chinese dinner in nearby ongpin (the main purpose of the trip) before heading off to a familiar old haunt at a resto-bar on recto where we proceeded to get blathered. my companions being filipino, fancied themselves as crooners, and hugged the karaoke making strange noises about doing it their way, each with a young pinay waitress on their arm for comfort and encouragement. i cannot sing and know it, so after a while i excused myself and headed around the corner to rizal ave, near carriedo mrt, to check out the freelance sw scene. it seems that either it was a quiet night, too early or the scene had moved further up rizal but the usual large gaggle of fl’s outside the local sogo hotel was not in evidence. there were a couple of girls but poor quality. returning on the opposite side of the street i was propositioned by some more girls including one obviously **** (looked like a badly made up 14 year old) and one nice looking 20 year old (about a 6, body 7). the rate has not changed much. 500 st (2 hours) with 1 pop and 700 with 2 pops. locals will pay about half that. there are loads of st hotels operating in the area (they are still in business so the casa’s and upstairs bars must still be operating at full throttle). i thanked the little sweetie and told her maybe next time and returned to my mates.
i eventually managed to drag them from their death agonies (karaoke singers always sound to me like they are dying in great pain). i wanted to try one of the upstairs disco bars but filipino’s are inherently conservative folk when in an unfamiliar environment so had to make do with a rocking bar on the corner of rizal and recto by the name of caloy’s. another k-ok bar but big and with a nice smoky honky tonk ambience. there were at least 30 waitresses in the place of whom about half passed my litmus test of doability and 3-4 were stunners. as usual in these places there was no bar fining system in place and girls were unpaid. they made their money from lady drinks bought for them and assignations after work. beer was 40 pesos and a ld was 120 pesos of which the girl receives 50 pesos. so she has to have a good few drinks bought to make it worth getting out of bed in a morning. they mostly seemed to be drinking sml’s or red horse and must have galvanized steel livers as they were matching the guys drink for drink. i saw two girls obviously worse for wear and one girl passed out. as the only kano in the place i received a lot of attention (particularly from the girls). the manageress told me that westerners were very rare visitors but they frequently had japanese and korean guests.
i called over a little cutesy i had spotted earlier and bought her a drink. she was 20 years old and from leyte. she told me she was a little worse for wear as, the previous night, she had downed 7 large bottles of red horse with a customer. surprised she was still breathing – she cannot have weighed more than 90 pounds. pinay's, when they get the taste, can be incredible pissheads. she said her shift finished at 7am and she could meet me then (wtf!) or she might take an evening off work another night and meet up with me. remuneration was not discussed. i took her cp no and probably will contact her as she is a nice kid and i like a gal who could drink me under the table :d.
probably worth a visit if you like a change from the normal mongers haunts and like to meet a few girls who are fun to hang out with for a while and not hardened pro’s with dollar signs for eyeballs. give it a miss, though, if you expect to get laid that night, unless you want to take on one of the rizal ave rough traders.

Well its official – Manila can be officially described as ‘bloody cold’ at the moment. Just checked my barometer and the daytime temperature read 18 degrees which is the lowest I have ever seen it in Manila. Be building snowmen if this carries on :D. I’ve just seen my neighbor going out looking like Nanook of the North complete with woolly scarf and ski hat. I went out to dinner last night wearing my heavy leather jacket for the first time ever in the Philippines and really only felt comfortable. Haven’t had the AC’s on in weeks or the fans in days. It is glorious.
So if you are coming to Manila soon, ditch the shorts, sandals and Hawaiian shirt – bring your ski’s and arctic gear ;).
Only joking but definitely do not forget to bring a jacket. You will need it.

fully agree. When I got home and enter my condo its really cold and my condo side is near the sun and like most of the condos here very visible and with big windows.
I went out today for lunch and I had the feeling its colder outside as my aircon in my office, not sure if they put on the aircon anyway. Its a strange feeling. I thought for some moments Im back in Germany.
No aircon since weeks, no fan either. Fantastic conditions for tourist who will now visiting the Philippines.
On the other side my friend just received a txt from his buddy on his way from Katiclan to Boracay on a 100 person ship. They have a storm and they in trouble since 2 hours!!! Know the one in Malate, Bill. Its on Remedios Circle, on the corner of Remedios/Adriatico. You get the odd quality FL hanging out at the bar there, but its by no means a sure bet. Maybe the Makati branch is better.
However good for a meal and they do great Cuban cocktails. If you feel like living dangerously, try the oysters which are the fattest and juiciest I've encountered in Manila. Like organic viagra as well!!

bill, the one in malate. on adriatico street, caty-corner across the street from bedrock bar. jump in any taxi and tell the driver to take you to bedrock in the circle; they all know where that's at. if you tell them havana cafe they might or might not know that. then walk across the street from the bedrock, turn left, and walk across another street and havana cafe is on the right. it really does have a cuban look/feel to it, dark/smoky feel, and they make a mean mojito. be careful in this area near the remedios (or adriatico) circle. many small children come up to foreigners after you leave the bar or restraunt with their hands out for coins. maybe 6 or 8 kids will swarm around you, putting their hands on your body. 3 or 4 hands will go down each of your pants pockets, one hand in each pocket, all at once. then the kids rep001ter in different directions; you wont have any idea which kid has your wallet, cell phone, car keys, etc.
the other hc is in makati at the greenbelt mall, its an indoor/outdoor place right next to a starbucks. very upscale here, many foreigners. many men have posted about how easy it is to pick up girls here.

I've never been to the Cafe Havana in Malate, but I've gone several times to the one in Greenbelt in Makati. It's a fun place, and it's packed with ladies on the prowl, traveling sometimes in pairs and sometimes alone. I don't like the food much, but the drinks are substantial, the crowd is festive, and it's an altogether fun place to be. Plus, since there are about a dozen restaurants along the row, it's easy to find a better place to eat if food is what you have in mind.
Havana/Greenbelt is right next to the Starbucks, which is also a gathering point for ladies who are looking and you can survey the scene from the outdoor tables in either venue. Anytime from about 8 in the evening till the early hours is probably appropriate.

Malate Havana is in an area that is jam packed on the weekends -- mostly with locals. Lots of eye candy. Havana itself is just an overpriced restaurant. I've gone to the area on dates and to meet chat friends, but I wouldn't expect anything. There are clubs there so anything can happen. You might chat up some smiling young ladies, ask them which restaurant or club is nice and then invite them to join you.
There are some show clubs in the area, but I've never indulged. Mostly because their target market seemed to be east Asian, which usually means overpriced. I remember a while back that one such place was closed down because the local police had deterimined that the ladies standing out front to attract customers were creating a traffic hazard.
As for the little beggers, I solve that problem by throwing a pocketful of pesos in front of a fast moving taxi. (jst kdg)

God forbid I'm quoting X, but quite tickled by his solution to the Manila street kids problem. Has to be a step up on the leaden solution of the Rio police.
There seems to be hostess and other bars springing up all over this area which is good news for mongers. I suspect, give it a year or two, a bar scene resembling Ermita of the 80's could well develop. Watch this space.
You will also find a few pimps and moonlighting 'students' FL's hanging out near the mentioned night lit fountain. Probably risky and ill advised but interested to know if anyone have availed of their services.

Have a Manila trip this week. And as always, have done my best to set up a good schedule that will maximise my time for pussy and time for work.
Thursday night will be a delightful young lady (well maybe 30 is not so young but is young compared to me LOL). I must have drunk a fair number of beers, because I was persuaded to sing a few karaoke songs, something I would never do if there was anyone I know within 3000 miles. But my conclusion was that the place was a waste of time and money.
You may also be interested to know that I also tried out a place in the road parallel to Pedro Gil Street called, I think, the Angel Show Bar. From memory the drinks were cheaper, and company was free. But again, strictly no bar fines or "take out".

Valid point Sonnie, and worth stressing. There are many expensive looking KTV and hostess bars opening up all over Malate. They look the deal, and mongers might be tempted in by the attractive chicks that congregate outside, thinking that these girls might be available for take out. But most of the time this is not the case, as you found out.
This is the unfortunate truth of this type of local/East Asian style venues which can be found all over town. Girls are available, but usually only to drink with you and as on-site companionship.
Of course if you see something that you fancy, there is nothing to stop you asking for their CP No and following up at a later time. These girls often work incredibly long shifts (7pm - 7am is standard) so you can largely forget about an after work liaison.
I recently described a visit to a similar (but much cheaper) establishment in Binondo. I saw a girl I liked and we got on like a house on fire. I have since met her (she called in a sicky!) and we had a great time;).
So for those with a little more time and patience they can be worthwhile. And can be a lot of fun for an alternative nights entertainment.

I know some people will say this and that about KTV's but I'm just curious on anyone who has partaken with this in Manila and what their experiences are and costs and meeting outside with them. I have a friend coming and he has traditionally done the KTV stuff in China.
Also, I went out with a woman in Manila and she took me to some clubs I've never been to before, but they were all high end bar fine type clubs. They kind of reminded me of the Cebu Clubs like Volvo and Thunderdome where 2-4 women come out for three songs and dance and strip down completely or close doing splits and whatever. I know some people will say this and that about KTV's but I'm just curious on anyone who has partaken with this in Manila and what their experiences are and costs and meeting outside with them. I have a friend coming and he has traditionally done the KTV stuff in China.
Also, I went out with a woman in Manila and she took me to some clubs I've never been to before, but they were all high end bar fine type clubs. I think most ktv In Manila are ripoff most are just bar ,most of the good one are in Quezon city up north and at Makati area ,most Mamasan will qoute you a very high price for barfine because most dumb ass Jap will paid this .
If you been to the big ktv in Guangzhou or Shenzhen area with over 500 girl they are much bigger and better quality and vaule for the money if you go with a large group .

My one anecdotal report from 2006: a taxi driver I knew took me to East Asian Entertainment, at least that's what I think it was called. It's on Roxas close to or maybe just inside Pasay City border. Not remembering how much admission was, but I think it was 400 pesos per hour to sit with a girl and the barfine was 6000 pesos all in for LT. The stage shows were basically some number of girls stripping down to their birthday suits in 2 or 3 songs. I was told there were smaller KTV rooms available for 1500 pesos per hour, but I wasn't clear on whether you could get the girl in there for ST. The girl I picked was a 19 year old stunner who starfished on me in bed that night. My mistake was spending too much time ogling her and not enough establishing chemistry with her. But she was easily the best looking girl I had during that trip. 2 hours with her, throw in the food and drink (not cheap) and I probably spent close to 10,000 pesos that night.
It was a good experience to blow the money once, but I told the driver not to take me back to places like that. If I go to a place like that again, I will do my best to get chemistry with the girl in the first 5 or 10 minutes and send her away if it isn't there. Also I think it's a good idea to go with friends, it's the social thing. Lone wolves are better off trolling the malls and the usual (less expensive) venues discussed here.
Took my first trip to the well known air force one, what a great experience it was. The hotel itself is quite huge, on sucat road, fairly close to the airport and the sucat SM mall. You can't miss it, is has a big airplane logo that says "Air Force One". Upon entrance two bouncers are there to check for any weapons, they directed me to the red carpet on the left, go up the stairs, down the hall and make the second left. This lead me to Flight 168.
Went there around 1pm on a Monday, so they had a promo; 1200 for a room for an hour and half. Went around the corner to the fish bowl, around 20 girls, all 7's or higher IMHO. When you look into the fish bowl you can see tint on most of the window with strips of non-tint. I guess they can see only the eyes of you, while you can see all of them. Well in 2009, those large KTV joints on Roxas are 8000p, many with fishbowls. Many girls were average to above average. Only saw one marginal stunner.

In LA Cafe you find generally low end chicks (generally diseased, smelly pussies). In no way can it be compared to say "Help" in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro.

A friend (Brit) of mine arrived in Manila Dec 29 and called me and asked me where to go. Of course I said EDSA. If you are traveling alone, EDSA is a great place to hang out and hopefully not get scammed.
Brit went to EDSA and had a great time, but he likes to drink too much and was talked in to taking two girls. He didn't remember the next day what happened in the room except that one girl didn't want to play and left. The next day after he left Manila for Mindanao he noticed his favorite soccer jersey and tennis shoes were missing. Also went to EDSA twice during this trip. Cannot remember the exact names of each bar, but the place directly in front as you enter quoted me P1200. All the others colluded at P1400. And would not budge. I calmly and meticulously explained my case (that I had been many times before, that I lived in MNL [not true], that I come here all the time, etc.). No effect, they would not budge on the price, so I suspect this is the new BF price.
For my taste, I thought the average girl here was ok, but about 5% were hot. I can only handle one at a time, so this works out just fine. Also, as it turns out, most of the girls don't work every day. I saw 2 girls that needed my attention, so I took one the first night; but asked the mama to reserve the other girl for the next night. Sounds right to get out of that cab. EDSA entertainment complex, firehouse, across street from Heritage, across street from Copacabana, across street from PAGCOR Manila Casino, etc. If they can't get that, they shouldn't be cab drivers. Or at least fake it better. On the other hand, some think you don't know the actual streets and try to take local road and not Roxas overpass (from Malate). That would add another 20-30 pesos (but more importantly, 10-30 minutes). Never tip those bastards.
From Malate, depending on your starting point, should be under P100, even with a little traffic. Most of the time, unless they are extremely friendly or helpful, you do not need to tip. Just different from the western world. This is changing due to all the foreigners tipping, though.

Phoenix One at Roman Hotel and Palacio Don Pedro are pretty good are located in Makati. Also Air Force One is very close to the airport.
EDSA is the name of the street. If you just say EDSA the taxi driver maybe confused. Need to say EDSA entertainment complex or EDSA girlie bars. Then the taxi guy will understand right away. Best is to say opposite Heritage hotel.
Many taxi drivers are from outside Manila and they do not know everything.
Many do not understand english very well. Usually they do talk to the dispatcher or let you talk to them so that they can tell the driver where to go in tagalog.

Did any of you guys in Manila get to the Santo Nino Fiesta Parade held the Roxas Boulevard/Baywalk area yesterday. A great day out with thousands of happy, smiling Filipino's enjoying the great weather (back to cool and breezy after a few hot days). Similar to Mardi Gras and the Rio Festival but obviously much smaller and without the topless dancers and other erotic content! For those who missed it, here are a few snaps I took. I particularly liked the Ati-Atihan contingent with their pounding, almost African beat drummers. They stirred the heart. Did anyone get to the Ati-Atihan Festival in Kalibo this year? I check into the Intercontinental at Makati. Met up with Brown Rail and we take a look around at nearby P Burgos. Not much happening during the day. pb, great write up. it definitely reminds me of my first time too. details down to staying in makati intercon, meeting up with other mongers who showed me around, heading to p. burgos, eventually finding edsa to be the best compromise on quality/price. thanks also for a balanced review of the airport scene. i have not tried that yet, but there were a few reports on that in the last few months. might check it out for variety next time.
as for hotels, i am finding the hyatt out in malate much better in terms of location, and probably the same rough pricing as the intercon. with all the traffic, just the time alone is invaluable. also, if it is of any interest, there are casinos in the malate and pasay areas.

ThanksIf your flight arrives at 10. 30 at night and you have checked baggage the bad news is it may be 11. 30 before you get out of airport. Immigration lines vary from no one in line at 3. 00pm. To long long long lines after 10. 00pm when the flights from Middle East arrive.
And then IF you have checked bags and your flight was full of Filipinos. Expect delays in getting your bags. All those balikbayan boxes will delay you.
Recommend arrive with no checked bags if you can.
Depends if your staying in city of Manila or closer to Makati. Thehn hit EDSA or P Burgos.
Hmm... let me first say, I've only had 2 days of Manila vs 11 days of AC in total.
2 of my 11 days of AC were what I considered duds. ie performance did not meet expectations. Where as both my Manila nights were great, however the sample size is probably not large enough. I suspect if I spent more time in Manila, the "failure" rate may be about the same.
On average, I would say the Manila girls looked better, but there are so many more bars and girls in AC within a small area, IMO, I'd say you probably see as many hot girls in AC as you would Manila (but of course a lot more "monkeys" in AC than in Manila) if you get my mathematical drift.
Manila as you know, is so much more expensive (about 3x more on average) than AC for a comparable standard. I was balking at the LT 4000p tip, but now that I'm back in the real world, that would only buy me 1hours worth of mediocre service from a budget (non-model) girl. So I shouldn't be complaining but AC is so much cheaper. At the end of the day, I think it comes down to chemistry and luck. IMO it is worth the extra as I have the money to spend, but for another monger on a shoe string budget, I would say no.
Let's face it, most of Manila (AC too) is a bit of a shit hole, broken footpaths (or none), potholes in the road, etc... all very third world. Exception being, Makati and its fine Greenbelt is like an oasis in this big desert of crap. With cabs being so cheap and in abundance, I'd rather stay in Makati and have takeouts from EDSA and LA Cafe. Only p100 to p150 for taxi tops, to shuttle between EDSA or LA Cafe and Makati. I can't see myself paying top prices for 5 star hotels in Malate to be surrounded by third world surroundings when cab fare is so cheap. However if I wanted a budget hotel, maybe Malate or north Makati (P Burgos).
On the non-mongering side, Manila has so many fine international dining at reasonable prices. I still salivating at the thought of some of the restaurants I saw at Greenbelt. I'm looking forward to Manila again for both the food and girls.
Only trikes suck at AC. 300m trike ride at AC for 70p versus 3km taxi ride in Manila for 100p. Something doesn't add up here.
Next time, I think I'll try Dusit Thani. I hear its just as good and about 10% less than Intercon.

LA Cafe = lots of girls, and all of them are on the game.
Havana Cafe = much less girls and not all of them are on the game.
I stayed near Havana Cafe and I must have passed through several times. At times there was no one. Later in the evening, maybe a few average, but none worth picking up.
EDSA BF p1200 - p1400. Tip much more on top.
I plan to stick to EDSA / LA Cafe on my next visit.

Had a 1 day overnite stay in Malate as I thought I'de check out the bars. Stayed at Exec Plaza which I think was ok for the price. A typical 3 star hotel (slightly tired rooms, but altogether not too bad, the AC was shockingly loud though, but the room was on the higher floors and facing away from the street so didn't hear the street traffic, I was impressed with the bathroom though. I Was v. Disappointed with LA cafe again, the quality of girls was phenomonally low there, 90% looked real deadbeat and had that hardened pro attitude which I detest. The last time I went to LA cafe was in November, I met a girl at Havana (Makati) who was a real looker, and we headed to Nirvana for some dancing / drinking. Met up with a white woman (of all things! ) with her pinay sisters in law, and she wanted to go to LA Cafe (WTF? ), anyway to cut a long story short, it was crap then, and its still crap.
Didn't have the energy after the long flight to check out G-Point, but it was a good place from memory the one time I did go there last January.
Talked to the girls upstairs in Beppin San (its across the junction from the 7 Eleven next to Exec Plaza. They looked decent enough, but I felt too much pressure to go in and I chickened out. Seemed like a typical karaoke scene where you pay a lot and don't get laid. Hrrrmmph.
Malate is a dump in my opinion, too many touts / and ugly girls on the streets, basically not much to keep a monger like me happy (I am a big Greenbelt / Cafe Havana fan, where I think some good quality can be found without the economic outlay of P. Burgos.

You would really think that with the amount of turnover and profit the place must make, its owners (who are the shadowy owners – anyone knows but surely highly placed Filipino’s?) would invest a little in the decor of the place, which has not changed one whit in the many years I have been visiting. Christ, the number of times I have seen beer knocked over on those rickety tables that are squeezed in too close together.
There are however, few places to match it for character and liveliness on a going night, which is most nights. And what other place in Manila is going full tilt, 24 hours, 365 days a year. And the turnover is so rapid. Apart from the usual suspects that you will see in there every night without fail, there are always new girls and amateurs who perhaps appear a few times and are never seen again. This kind tend to hide in the shadows being new and a little shy so you have to learn to spot them quickly and move in. Surprisingly most guys (and certainly new visitors) do tend to be a little overwhelmed, and hang back, waiting for the girls to make the first approach. So they tend to be easy fodder for the older, more experienced and hardened girls who are used to making the running, and miss out on the younger, newer girls who are waiting for you to approach them. Better for me ;).
There is only one other freelance place, that I know of, in Asia that had the similar seedy, character filled allure of LA Café. And that was the old underground, Thermae Coffee Shop in Sukhumvit, Bangkok, which was demolished in 1997. This place was the ultimate role model for the Mos Eisley Cantina in Star Wars. I've been to Walkabout and I've been to Beer Garden, and while both have their tawdry charms, neither approaches LA for pure seediness and pure ambiance in my opinion. I don't think I ever got to Thermae, though I might have. My early days in Bangkok were a blur then and are mostly a blur even now.
I do agree with the importance of checking the shadows where the newbies lurk. I once met a stunning Chinese/Filipina there many years ago simply by checking the darker corners.

This forum is great, I posted 2 weeks ago a question on the best places since I only stayed 1 night in Manila. The majority recommended EDSA complex.
I stayed 2 nights ago in Copacabana hotel, the EDSA complex is just located opposite of the hotel, very convenient. I arrived early, around 8PM, not many 'customers', but plenty of girls. First had a drink in Bullets bar, but could not find anyone I liked, then headed to the Pitstop. Again plenty of girls. 2 came to me, very nice looking, especially 1. They were friends, which made it for me easy to say yes to the both of them. BF was 1400 per gril and the girls asked 2500 each. Total 7800. Probably expensive for philippines, but wow: what did I get for that! I dont get this in the states for that money by far. Just a thought. You should NEVER use a Debit card in a bar, or as a substitute for a credit card. I can't speak (obviously) for your bank but debit card fraud is often not covered. Meaning, they can empty your checking account and sometimes it's impossible to get the cash back.
On the other hand. I agree, interestingly; the only place I have experienced credit card fraud was the US. Someone tried to use my card numbers at Wal Mart Online to buy (and ship) a ton of stuff. The only place I have been robbed by a girl was New Orleans. The only place I have had items clearly stolen from my room or my luggage was also in the US.

Man it’s better to pay for all things in cash here. I mean it this is a third world country. That being said I have never had a problem with my card being scammed. They are strict here in PI about checking the identify of credit card holders.
One time at SM I gave my ole lady my card while we were shopping in the grocery store and they would not allow her to buy a piece of gum until I showed even though she kept telling them I was in the store and just was not at the counter at that time.

Casino:
For all the hip hop heads out there this bar is definitely for you. Rap music was played the whole time I was in the place. To say I was popular is an understatement. I had two girls that just wouldn’t leave me alone begging for a barfine. One needed to be set in a damn deep freezer because this girl was hot in the damn pants. Taking my hand and rubbing herself all over promising me a wild night with her bisexual friend. They didn’t look that great but I am sure they would have fucked me into a coma. The line up of the bar was decent. There was one that I really wanted to talk too who kept giving me the eye but I let her go as I wanted to check out all the bars before taking something home for night.

Was pretty quiet most of the girls stayed off into themselves. The lineup was unappealing I didn’t even finish my drink just hit the door.
Boardroom:
This bar was dead and the joint seemed to cater to an Arabic clientele. Line up not even worth discussing.
Cotton Club:

Fine report DW. Your descriptions and conclusions tally pretty well with what I remember of the place, though I haven't been there for a while. I also recall an upstairs bar with the stairway next to Fire House, but the last time I was there it pretty well sucked. I'm surprised at the Php1,200 bar fine as I thought someone had told me it had gone to Php1,400.
As to those who would criticize, who cares? This is a virtual space, and it's not likely you will ever meet any of those guys. In fact, it's not likely that many of them will even come over here, so no sense wasting time even thinking about it.

Eurotel is the best of the short timers. I think you will find that their wash-up rates are 4 hours and not 6, unless they have changed them recently. I've used the place a few times and it is much cleaner and better appointed than Sogo Hotel (but part of the same group).
Prices
Compared to Burgos EDSA is dirt cheap. Drinks around 2-300PHP cheaper. Barfines around 1-2000PHP cheaper.
Burgos Prices:
Drinks on average 100-400 PHP

avi certainly can't explain your experiance. i have done short time at all of the above mentioned hotels, many many times, and have never had anything like that happen. sogo specializes in short time, so as i understand it, they were saying "if you would like a room, we cannot tell you how much it will cost until after you check out"? am i missing something here?
something else was going on. my guesses.
1) there was some type of anti-vice sweep/religious thing going on and the police were not allowing shortime hotels temporarily. (possible as some municipalities ban short time hotels permanently)
2) you were with a girl who they thought was **** or otherwise undesirable (maybe a known thief).
but either way, i can pretty much guarantee that such a thing will never happen to you again. i can state that based on a couple of hundred personal trips to those and other short time hotels, with only one similar problem (they requested the id of my girl for some reason and she did not have it).

Hit LA Café last night and what can I say. The place was crawling with the ladies/freelancers. For all you Captain Save Hoes this place is not a place to find a wife. The place is a two story bar, live band eatery etc…some of the waitress’s even look tight in their slutty/hot fishnets stockings. Don’t know if they go for takeout. Clientele consist of the United Nations, Americans, Brits, Japanese, and Koreans, saw about three Brothas….
All type of girls were available from the simple braces young type to the old skanky… looks like she been around the block type it was ridiculous. Warbucks was taken aback by it all. I have been around the block a few times but it was simply amazing.

Occasionally, to make a change from beaujolais, I like to taste from a more mature vintage. To this end, I met a 36 year old MILF through AFF. In this area, I only use one ST Hotel and that is the Eurotel down Alabang Zapote Road near Southmall. Its about 10 minutes from ATC and if you need parking you can use the big Southmall parking area, across the road as long as you are not gone too long (roving security guards on bikes constantly monitor the area).
The Eurotel is also the classiest ST Hotel in the area, so is ideal for entertaining GF's. There is a Sogo further down Real Street but it is not much cheaper and is nowhere near as nice. There are also a few small ST places in the enormous BF Homes subdivision nearby.

This story will illustrate the almost unbelievably fantastical things that can happen to you guys out here. Only in The Philippines.

It's worth going for sure. You can get there any time from about 8 PM onward and be sure to grab one of the tables outside so you can see the women both in Havana and next door at Starbucks. You can always stroll inside every 30 minutes or so to see if there's anyone who might have escaped your eye.

I was in manila during CNY take a week off from business in China ,I did walk by cafe Havana on my way back from Roman suite hotel sauna it was around 9pm didn't see any actions ,maybe is too early the later the better for this place.

Hung out for a couple of hours, eating dinner, drinks and coffee, and it was pretty clear that most of the girls were working- probably 40 tables, with 2-5 girls a table between the Starbucks, Cafe Havana, the crepe place, and the Seattle coffee house. Mainly 6-7's, though enough 8's to make it worth while.

In the 5+ years that I have been here I have been to Zamboanga dozens of times and always considered it totally safe and lots of fun. In the past five or six months though things have changed for the worse and it's getting less and less safe, so if you go be very cautious. I would not recommend going outside of the city proper for any reason unless you travel to and from your destination with well known locals, and even then make sure you go in full daylight. Even in Zamboanga itself, do not go out alone at night and if you go out with local friends do not walk anywhere. There are no taxis in the place so you will have to take trikes wherever you go, which means you will be highly visible. I recommend you stay at the Garden Orchid Hotel where there are lots of other foreigners and which is more secure than the other hotels though they will not give you any hassles about bringing someone in.

Still a week to go and I've outdone myself with having my schedule totally nailed. Normal 3 day trip.

Howdy. I've been here about 27 hours now. Took the 12 hour non-stop PAL flight from SFO. Right on time. Big crowd at 3:45 am Trying to get through immingration! I guess the process probably took 45 minutes from landing to departure in the taxi.

Any ISG member interested in the living conditions of an average poor urban family in Manila, might like to watch a recent BBC documentary in the Explore series. This is called 'Sex and Religion in Manila', but don't get too excited as there is nothing pornographic about it. :D.
It is about the Reproductive Health Bill which is gradually gaining support in Congress, despite the usual objections and anti-contraception lobbying of the Catholic Church and its reactionary elements within the government. The bill, if passed, would allow for easier access, for poor Filipinos, to birth control information and the free or nominally priced availability of contraceptives. There is some interesting footage of the abortion methods of the average poor Pinay which involves a trip to the market outside Quiapo Church to purchase a bottle of the notorious Delay Ang Regla which is still on open sale despite supposed crackdowns.
There is also an interview with the ex-Mayor of Manila, Lito Atienza who is a determined critic of the bill. He thinks that, with regards to the Philippine population explosion, it is a question of the 'more the merrier'. He actually thinks that the bigger the population, the stronger the country will be economically, culturally and militarily. When it is pointed out to him that the majority of that increased population will be born and live in poverty it does not seem to concern him. A dangerous man and a perfect example of the crazy and simplistic short sightedness of Philippine political major players.
The disgraced former president is also wheeled out for some reason to whine and feel sorry for himself on camera. Would you buy a used car from Estrada? I wouldn't.
As is usual for BBC documentaries, it is fairly well balanced and impartial and fronted by that excellent, dreadlocked, black reporter Seyi Rhodes. Well worth a look.

Do like the idea of the daily A/C shuttle.Yeah, I stayed there one night last Sept only because the shuttle dropped us off there and I didn't feel like looking around for a room. It is ok for the money IMHO. It has an in-room electronic safe. It also has a funky intercom system in the room. I had a superior room and it was pretty big. The room was kind of dark and drab. Girl friendly and within walking distance of LA Cafe.

Any ISG member interested in the living conditions of an average poor urban family in Manila, might like to watch a recent BBC documentary in the Explore series. This is called 'Sex and Religion in Manila', but don't get too excited as there is nothing pornographic about it. :D.
It is about the Reproductive Health Bill which is gradually gaining support in Congress, despite the usual objections and anti-contraception lobbying of the Catholic Church and its reactionary elements within the government. The bill, if passed, would allow for easier access, for poor Filipinos, to birth control information and the free or nominally priced availability of contraceptives. There is some interesting footage of the abortion methods of the average poor Pinay which involves a trip to the market outside Quiapo Church to purchase a bottle of the notorious Delay Ang Regla which is still on open sale despite supposed crackdowns.
There is also an interview with the ex-Mayor of Manila, Lito Atienza who is a determined critic of the bill. He thinks that, with regards to the Philippine population explosion, it is a question of the 'more the merrier'. He actually thinks that the bigger the population, the stronger the country will be economically, culturally and militarily. When it is pointed out to him that the majority of that increased population will be born and live in poverty it does not seem to concern him. A dangerous man and a perfect example of the crazy and simplistic short sightedness of Philippine political major players.
The disgraced former president is also wheeled out for some reason to whine and feel sorry for himself on camera. Would you buy a used car from Estrada? I wouldn't.
As is usual for BBC documentaries, it is fairly well balanced and impartial and fronted by that excellent, dreadlocked, black reporter Seyi Rhodes. Well worth a look.

Since some of these places are Japanese friendly, I suggest you ask about fees before you go in.
Nevertheless, this is a great site which shows a lot of off the radar places. Red Garter for example, I've been there. Airport road, also an interesting place that most tourist don't visit.

Business brought me over to the Domestic Road area so I decided to check out Utopia Health Spa. It's across the street from the Cebu Pacific hanger – or, to your left and across the street from the Manila Domestic Airport. Look for a Jollibee and a Shakeys Pizza place. You walk back behind the Jollibees and you'll see the sign. The area is dimly lit, but people are everywhere and you don't get a bad vibe.
On arrival, the place was packed with cops. I immediately passed on. Though I didn't know that the catholic church was into getting folks deported, I am not at all surprised. In the years that I've lived here I've noticed its almost unprecedented political clout, and its position as the third rail of politics here. Politicos cross the church only at their peril since the church influences highly the illiterate, the poor and, as Gamahucher says, the superstitious and the ignorant. Not surprisingly as well, its the poor and ignorant who keep having all the children they cannot afford. The rich folks pay no attention at all to the position of the church on birth control and practice it (pun intended) religiously.
Having said all that, it appears from what I read in the papers that the reproductive health bill is gaining some traction and it would not totally shock me to see it passed over the strenuous objections of the bishops, priests, and other moral arbiters who make a living telling other people what to do. Maybe even the politicians are finally realizing that the country simply cannot sustain the ever burgeoning ranks of the poor, so perhaps the social good will actually triumph over the self aggrandizement of the church.
Came down here for few days as a transit traveller. I had to have an internet so decided to stay at Hotel Heritage. You can get a decent 5* hotel for around $100. If not directly, you can ask the local citizen (GF) to book for you. Additionally I like its proximity to EDSA :). Personally, I like the quality and the standardized pricing of this place. I think (others may comment) the prices are somewhat fixed for bf, st and long time.
Went to LA Cafe but found it has more quantity than quality. It was hard to find the one I personally like. Went upstairs, downstairs talked to the few and the price was very reasonable there. I could get the all nighter for under 2000p. Somehow, it did not suit my taste. I think this place is more of a hit and miss. I heard you may get lucky during daytime. Will try next time.
Anyway, went back to EDSA and looked around all the bars. It only cost $2 to stay in the bar to browse around, if you drink water (my favorite drink sometimes :). Finally decided to sit-down at pit-stop. Talked to one who just joined the club a week back. She was speaking decent english, warm and a bit shy (my type ;).

Arrived Thursday afternoon, and true to form had ensured that I had one waiting to get the first "runs on the board".

Landed last night in Manila, PAL terminal 2. Wanted a taxi to Las Palmas hotel. I sat in an "airport taxi", where the meter starts at "0", and you get charged 100pesos for every 1km. "No charge of 30p at start like meter taxi", driver said. Obviously, it a a HUGE scam. So, I said, if I go 2km, that is 200pesos? Right, he said, blah, blah, blah. 2km is hardly 1/3 of the way to the hotel. So, out of that taxi and into a "metered" taxi with flag drop of 30, and the entire ride was less than 150pesos. Point is - take a metered taxi!!

I would recommend Iseya Hotel down the street for P1200, or the Duck Inn across the street for about the same.

Back from the Phils last night. My first time. Only 10 days so not a huge sample size. In Manila, I did a few tourist things (I highly recommend at least a long day trip to Tagaytay and Taal Volcano. Very nice. Also saw Intramuros, etc. Not much to do in Angeles, however, besides the obvious.
LA Cafe- great place for freelancers and if you're a decent type the problem will be pushing them away. Not finding some. Highly recommended. Friday and Saturday nights are best. But anytime is ok. I stayed at Executive Plaza about two blocks from there. However, the are around there is full of beggars, viagra vendors, and also pick-pockets. So I would not recommend a late night walk. Taxi is best and even then you will be approached by about 4 guys all wanting tips for " find you a taxi". Just be on guard.
I made a quick trip to EDSA. Wasn't that impressed. Dunno why anyone would go to EDSA when LA CAFE is right downtown. But did not check out Makati scene either. Robinson's mall is close to LA CAFE, also. And there are freelancers there.
I made a short two day trip to Angeles. I was surprised and found it enjoyable, but two days was enough for me. The large go gos are ok. Probably a good idea to find out when the shifts start and go at the start of one. The confusing thing about Angeles (to me anyway) is that supposedly the barfine includes everything for the girl. Barfines seem to run about 1300 on up. According to the category. However, some are "cherry girls" (means they don't go with customers, I think). And some just don't' do what you might want in terms of service. So best to be explicit I suppose. Another approach is to go to a number of the smaller places and find one you like and if she will do what you want (maybe meet her after her shift, etc.) If you have a week or so there, this might be a good approach. I wasn't there that long and frankly, I couldn't spend a solid week there. I have to have other things going on to stimulate me besides non-stop sex with bargirls. (Just me).

I think if one bothered to try and find "educated" filipinas and followed up with them, the experience might be very positive. But if your goal is just to monger, then you may not want that.
LA CAFE, in some respects, had a feel similar to the beer garden in Bangkok, but seemed a little more modern, and, to me, if you looked you could find prettier girls. I always learn a lot about myself at these freelance bars, too. You learn who might be interested and why, etc. That's something one doesn't always learn in a "regular" setting. But just my impression.

First of all: as one of the guys following your decision process before your trip in the "morality" thread I'm really interested more in detail in your "experiences". Was it worth to risk and finally finish your relationship?
To the Phils: unfortunately. Beside Bohol and Taal Volcano area you did not see the nice places; Manila has it's charme, but the really beautiful spots are spread all over the country (llike Boracay, Palawan, the rice terrasses and mountains etc.). When I personally compare a country like Thailand I feel more happiness and joy of life in the Philippines although the people are poor. But this is a subjective judgement.
Same for the girls: to my opinion the Filipinas are not just giving a service, they are warmer personalites and. What may be important sometimes. They are the better movers. But the girls in LA Cafe to my impression not really are typical, they are very professional.
To summarize: I think you should give the Philippines another, longer chance.

Just returned from Greenbelt Mall in Makati. It is a nice diversion from Robinsons Ermita. Metered taxi is about 100p and has everything you need, including Outback Steakhouse, California Pizza Kitchen, SM, and an excellent restaurant for breakfast called Heaven and Eggs. Seems to be a higher class personnel out there. Also, plenty of theatres, and Dusit Thani hotel, which I checked out today - about 8200p per night for deluxe (standard, lowest priced) room. Be prepared for "good morning sir, ma'am" if you enter stores with your GF.
EDSA last night. Casino bar - 1400 barfine. LA Cafe - crowded at 7pm. and almost all have "1 baby".

Yes, it was worth it to go and partake. I think I wasn't as into her as I originally thought or maybe I'm just not into a relationship right now. So, yes, no regrets at all.
I did say I was just giving my impressions about my experiences in the Phils. A sample size of only 10 days. Which didn't allow me to go to many more places, really.
I'll keep your thoughts in mind, though, and maybe I'll go again.

Wasn't me but I applaud the guy for forward planning and initiative in arranging to meet a potential in Robinsons. I've done so many times (and will be doing so tomorrow except she will be a nailed on certainty;)). This way if nothing good comes of your date, you can wave her bye-bye as quickly as possible and heave ass pronto to the nearby sure things in LA Cafe. Or alternatively hang about in Robinsons and do a little mall fishing:).

I stayed in Makati and did the rounds. One of the taxi drivers offered to take me according to him to a CASA, where I can find beautiful girls and I can take one for 24 hours for 3, 000-3, 500 PHP.
I declined the offer since I've never being to Manila previously.
Can anyone tell me if such places do exist, how safe they are and the amount the taxi driver quoted me is correct.

There are casa all over Manila ,Makati area is on Bautista st 15 min walk from P burgo bar,The taxi drivers get a cut from the casa.If you go youself you should able to get 1500 peso for ST or 3000 for all night, Just go to bar or sauna if you don't like to take a chance.

They are difficult to find because I guess they probably move so often. It seems any cabby can take you to them. The one I have been to was so non-descript that you could not even see the front door until you touched it.
In my opinion there is not much use for them because you limit your self to selecting from the women there and are restricted to paying the price they ask. Of course it is negotiable. But once you are there at some point take it becomes take it or leave it!
The 3000-3500 price sounds pretty close if memory serves me. But, once again by manila standards that is a high end price. The time I was there I saw maybe 20-30 girls of which only 2-3 were even worth looking at.
If you are in a hurry I would recommend AirForce one over a casa any day of the week. If you have not heard of this do a search here. It is a very high quality brothel with many fantastic looking women and a great atmosphere.
Again, I think the "fast-food" mentality goes against the point of the Philippines. As I am sure you have heard the best part of the Philippines is the GFE the women deliver.

Guys, coming to manila in a week and I'm thinking about taking a regular with me to some remote spot for some R+R. Instead of bringing a big box of condoms, I was thinking about getting her checked after I arrive in manila before we head fro the province. Robinson's Ermita has a clinic in the far cornerof the mall, does all sorts of tests. Probably the most important is Hepatitis series, get tested for Hep B and Hep C. HIV results take a week last I checked, but can be done in one day in hospital setting.
Main issue is HIV. Is really a 3 month window period for testing to be effective.
Just for the old fashioned tests like Elisa or western blot.
These go for the antibodies.
Go for a PCR test and the window is a few days only.

I have broken a crown, but i'm scheduled to fly to manila on April 6. I'm thinking that i can partially fund my trip with the money i save by using a Manila dentist.
Any opinions? Has anyone had similar services provided by a good dentist there, and if so, what is a reasonable cost? Do you recommend him/her?
