Bro...I can feel, how the situation might have been. Living here & being from a third world country. It doesn't work here quite like in the west.

First, You don't reason with a guard in a third world country. They are following orders and rules not logic and the managers are quite happy to fire them on first strike. No second chance for them.

If you are in a situation, always act calmly, smile and ask for the manager or supervisor, throw a story, that, you are surprised regarding the new rules and you have been visiting the hotel for last 5 years and it has never happened before and that you are a regular customer to the hotel.

If you are able to meet the manager, 90% of the time, your problems will be over, they generally overrule the guard...besides they can reason and use logic etc not follow the rules strictly. you can also tell, you did not know the rules, cos earlier you did not had any issues and next time, you would be more carefull etc.

Secondly, you might have heard about bribing the guard and how corrupt third world country is....NEVER DO IT...Farangs still needs to learn the way bribing is done...Do not give money to guard in front of everyone or in the lobby etc....they have cameras and if someone else sees, he will be fired.

Do it subtly, in a corner or better, bring them some jollibee foods, you can give them any place and they would be very happy. Agreed, its a third world country, but still, there is a method to the madness, how its all done :)

In Philippines, the bars I been to anyway, if the BF is 1700 pesos, the 700 pesos would go to the bar to release the girl and 1000 pesos goes to the girl. That's the drawback to Philippines is that you pay in advance to the girl before any service is done. Unlike Thailand, you pay 600 bahts to release the girl at a gogo bar and after the deed is done, you decide how much to give the girl. Thanks for the post TKTV. It sounds cold but I have had countless Filipinas ask me for a kid. It disgust me because most of them can barely feed themselves but are ready to bring a child into this world in an attempt to secure money for 18 years. It results to nothing but economic/emotional extortion.

I am not talking about no back alley or chemical induced shit you can find locally. There are first rate facilities and good Physicians in Hong Kong that provide these services which usually runs about $3K HKD or $400 USD. If she refuses well.... Hi Coogee, Two forex rules in Manila - don't change much money at the airport and never ever exchange on the streets. In both cases you will be ripped off.

The best rates for sterling can be obtained at one of the many walk in money changers in Ermita and Malate. Mabini is chock full of them.

I don't know how it is for your currency, but when I change dollars at the airport it's not that far off whatever anyone else is exchanging elsewhere. I say change enough to get you to AC to pay for your transport and a day or two of activities. I don't think the difference is going to be material in the long run. Then you can take your time if you really want to shop your exchange rates. On a side note, I hear more banks there are charging extra fees for ATM usage so it may not work to do that so much if you have to pay those fees.

Just don't change money at your hotel. There you will get ripped off. If you have to there will be money changers on Fields open. Just make sure you don't get pickpocketed by the little buggers.

Its not wise to step off the airplane without at least a bit of 'their worthless currency' in your pocket. I can get 10,000 at many ATM in Manila. Downstairs Robinson's Mall Malate, Glorieta in Makati, and the mall in Ortigas that is hooked into the Holiday Inn. AVIts part of my list of particulars discussed. Cell phone off (not vibrate or silent) once inside the room. she tells me to give her the money because the place is normally for philippinos and they would charge more if they saw that i was american. this made sense to me so i give her the money and after talking with a woman at the desk, the big woman escorts me to the 4th floor where we go inside and she immediately tells me to take a shower. i tell her no thanks; i'll wait until she leaves the room before i take a shower. she insists but i still refuse, so she eventually leaves telling me to lock the door behind for my own safety. this was another red flag! i should have cut my losses and just left. i walk out into the hall and see very pretty girls going in and out of rooms so i assure myself that i am just over reacting.

i calculate that the more time we wait the greater the chance is that this is going to turn ugly. the only thing that kept me from giving her my backwards flying elbow to the face was the risk that i would not knock her out cold. there would be blood and screams and if she really did have friends in the hotel, i would have a great challenge trying to escape down 4 flights of stairs and then out into the street unrep001hed. i still didn't know for sure if she was girl or a guy. what if the cops thought i assaulted a woman? i could imagine the men on the street being upset that an american guy just beat down a pinay female. i could see headlines in america about a guy traveling for sex tourism who get arrested for beating up a prostitute so, she had the upper hand and i think it is best to try to resolve this silently.

we negotiate for a while and i eventually get her to promise to release me quietly for an additional 1500 pesos. i hated to give in. it hurt my pride and challenged my manhood but i figured that it would be much smarter to lose 55 us dollars than take a chance on something that might cost me many thousands of dollars or possible my life.

the agreement was that she would open the door before i gave her the money. this time she did open the door and i held the money high in my hand until i was out in the hall. i dropped the 1000 peso note and then walked briskly out of the place. i survived only having lost about 55 us dollars.

Thanks for your story. I have been tempted to take some of the massage girls up on their massage on Burgos but haven't done so. havent' posted in a while, but, see maybe I could contribute. I've been going to the Phils for 20 years. The one thing I learned was to never, ever pick up a girl on the street, or to use a Mamasan on the street. The bars have at least some credibility behind their name - which means you can report a troublesome girl, and most have some sort of health check - despite the fact that some checks are pencil whipped. Most clubs provide condoms and the like. Yes, the clubs are often more expensive, but, this is what you're paying for. Girls on the street - on the other hand - are usually there because they can't make it in the bars (which is a sad sign). They don't show up on time, or are troublesome to the customers, or worse, have failed a health check.

Denom, how are 90% of the girls in AC not pro at all? Those aren't cherry girls I run into very often (I've run into exactly one that would not depart the bar with me for that reason). This one is easily settled - from the front door of the hotel you first need to turn left to get to Makati avenue, then once on Makati avenue, turn right. That's because the entrance is not on Makati avenue itself but inside an open parking lot.

Often within 1-2-3 messages we've exchanged info, or better just on the CB chat. I cannot be online there more than 2 minutes when the chat rings start hitting. I always check their profile before chatting. Almost all say they are looking for soulmate/husband. Quickly I ask them "Did you read my profile? ", as I'm not looking for that. About 1/2 have not bothered to read it. I ask them to do so now. Of those 1/2, about 1/2 of them (25% of total who contact me) say, "Oh, we are not compatible. " I wish them well. The other 75% have then read it, and, going completely against what their profile says, continue to chat with me (when their profile says they don't like what I do).

In addition, about 10% of the girls say up-front in first message to me, they would love to 'tour' me when I'm on xxxx city. Based on my experiences though it does seem to me that younger ones are ignoring completely the old more's now. Families turn a blind eye. AVI live out here and have a lot of expat friends, and I would say that the vast majority of expats that have lived out here for a while have this attitude. They are settled with one girl, but may occasionally fool around on the side.

I, on the other hand, happen to be in the very small majority that has an insatiable appetite for barfining. I have lived in the Philippines for 5 years now, and I barfine at every opportunity I get. Thanks for the adviceTheres no hard and fast rule as to which will work best. If you have time do Cebu and AC. Theres hotties everywhere so it really doesnt matter. I agree with you that you should have given 1500php only to the LAC cutie especially if no price had been negotiated before but, as you said, it's $10 only and maybe she seemed like she needed it for something.
Definitely go to Cotton Club in EDSA first-up next time. Be prepared to bail out though if it is a "low-talent" night as it can be variable there. To help out the complete Manila novice I thought I would post my first night experience summary on here, there are many lessons to be learned. The most important being the ability to think under the pressure of being surrounded by many beautiful available girls. Gulp

I was here in 1997 last, doing some work for PLDT at the time and had my first experience with a Fili and it has affected me for life. As explained before, I am from Dubai, and a regular p4p user. Now I have a taste for the Filipina so when the opportunity arose to come to Manila I grabbed it.

Cotton Club

Firehouse

In LAC, there is a cover for everybody, 150 on weekdays, and 200 on weekends, for guys and girls. Though sometimes the staff are sloppy and let an occasional guest creep in. And this is SOP for the past dunno how many years. And then the guy who crept in tells all his friends that the bar is free and then a free for all cluster fuck happens. As I did C. A guy slipped past, and when his friends turned up, he told them "don't PAY FUCKING COVER, I DIDN"T" and then the security turned up and despite the big bold notice saying COVER CHARGE, the guy kept refusing and told his buddies not to pay. And then it was time for me to hat-coat-umbrella-disappear.

The cover charge is also the reason why fewer girls hang out upstairs, as they need to invest in the 'cover charge' unlike the ground floor,

Well after the disaster from night 1 I was again thinking of getting some room service but after RTFF decided that I would take a stroll out to Havana Cafe as I fancied some music, a couple of Mojitos whilst I decided what to do.

I have been once to Cebu. Not the clubs. But, with a week you can do the mall thing. Just go to a SM or Robinson and walk around. They will let you know they are interested. I can get 10,000 at many ATM in Manila. Downstairs Robinson's Mall Malate, Glorieta in Makati, and the mall in Ortigas that is hooked into the Holiday Inn. Few months I got 10K at an ATM, then tried again later that day, only to be denied for any cash. Tried later that day at another previously trusted ATM, on United Nations Blvd (one of the banks) just a block or two off Roxas, and got the same rejection, the card was declined. Damn. Figured there was maybe a 24-hour lockout (maybe). The next day I tried again in the evening, no success.

I had to call my bank in the US, customer service number. On the phone the agent explained their computers had detected unusual 'out-of-country' activity, and de-activated the card. Once he walked me thru the last several attempted uses as my own, he re-activated it. He said that I should have called the bank before leaving the US and notified them of the dates and countries I was traveling (like I have to do with my credit cards). Lesson learned. 5 minutes later I was getting some cash at a machine.This may sound like a dumb question. i think you'll get raped if you use a credit card, with all types of cash advance fees, and currency exchange fees most likely. you may get charged the atm fees when using an atm also, but i think smaller than the credit card. i never consider the credit card option. depending on how long you are there, you can always bring dollars to exchange, assuming you are american. bring nice $100 bills. lots of places in manila to exchange and also cebu maybe not so many as manila though, but they're there. i prefer to use atm and cash exchange, just have to be very careful about locking your cash up and keeping it safe. not all safes are safe.

Having tried various alternatives over the 7 years or so that I've lived here, I concluded a while ago that ATMs are the easiest, safest, and usually the cheapest means of getting local money. Machines are ubiquitous and are rarely empty, and the amount charged by your bank or by local banks is partially offset by the lousy exchange rate offered by many bureaux de change. Plus, you will usually get a better rate from the ATMs than you will from the money changers. Carrying around a pile of $100 bills is just one more thing to worry about. I would advise that you keep two or three such bills tucked away as an emergency stash, and use your ATM for getting pesos. If you have an ATM/Visa debit card, so much the better, as you can use it for hotel expenses and usually in restaurants. Again, you'll get a better rate from Visa than from most currency exchange places.

Funny that you mention this. This girl was classy, had perfect english, looked nothing like a WG and wasn't attempting to find a punter - if I had been in any other country I would have assumed that we just had chemistry and thats why we went back to my hotel - because at the time that's what it felt like.

So, my justification is simple. If she did expect money the first day, it would have been nice to give her some on the second day as well, considering the cost of living and earning capacity in Philippines, a few more thousand peso would have kept her off the street, as those girls who part time would prefer to not to be fucking and spend quality time with their friends and family.

Once you have money in there, the account will stay open.

Spent 2 consecutive nights pulling from different go-go bars at the complex.

My story. I walked into a BdO branch in Mindanao. Got lucky to get one of the 10s working there. She had, however, an ugly ring around the wrong finger. Shit!
Anyhow I was there for banking and not bonking. So I paid 10K peso into the account. The deposit was free as this would be "my" branch. The ATM card took 10 days and I picked it up at the bank. As the address I gave my hotel, not even a room number. They new I would not be found there but they dont mail statements etc. You do all at the ATM.
The 2000 peso balance is to avoid banking charges. If you keep less they start charging some peanuts.

The whole thing took 10-15 minutes, way too quick to check out all that candy working in the branch.

For me it worked. I have a residence visa but that did not really make a difference they told me.

So try your luck. Metrobank is more a headache plus the ladies are not even a far second to BdO. You might decide on BdO on Makati avenue, the main branch. If that is not working, the local branch manager in the province might be more eager to have that extra customer who keeps cash in his bank.

Spent 2 consecutive nights pulling from different go-go bars at the complex.

EDSA - Cotton Club

Arrived late. Past midnight. A dozen or so girls left on stage. Thin on talent, no-one too inspiring. Walked right in ignoring the stage and sat at the bar next to a pretty GRO (not a regular stage dancer) I eventually pulled. I disagree. Having tried various alternatives over the 7 years or so that I've lived here, I concluded a while ago that ATMs are the easiest, safest, and usually the cheapest means of getting local money. Machines are ubiquitous and are rarely empty, and the amount charged by your bank or by local banks is partially offset by the lousy exchange rate offered by many bureaux de change. Plus, you will usually get a better rate from the ATMs than you will from the money changers. Carrying around a pile of $100 bills is just one more thing to worry about. I would advise that you keep two or three such bills tucked away as an emergency stash, and use your ATM for getting pesos. If you have an ATM/Visa debit card, so much the better, as you can use it for hotel expenses and usually in restaurants. Again, you'll get a better rate from Visa than from most currency exchange places.

WC1, I think it has to do with the short timeline business men have when they are in Manila. My last visit in EDSA I took a great girl on Friday night, LT and great GFE and asked her if she wanted to go Saturday night and she said for sure. I asked her what time she started work and she told me at 6 pm. I went into the bar at 7:30 pm and she came over already dressed. She started off by saying she was sorry she could not go with me....a guy came in at 6 pm and barfined her. He went for a business dinner and told her that he would be back by 11 pm. He was on American time and I was on Filipino time. I didn't lose the girl, I just lost my turn:D Some guys don't have a lot of time to go out or can't be seen out and they just pay the rate they are given.

The girl also had an IPhone 3G. She told me that a guy barfined her and the next day brought it for her.

But it did not matter, as there are 100's of ladies in EDSA and within 30 minutes, I had another girl friend for the night:)

No worries. Read my previous posts. I'm a regular raver/monger all over ASEAN and believe you me, I would be the last person to want to drive up prices. Everyone I spoke to told me EDSA girls don't get a single peso from the BF. Now that I think about it, that's probably untrue. Small money anyway, even if she gets PHP 600 from it, 13 bucks isnt worth debating for on this board.

I have to question some of your reporting. The girls on Burgos get at least half or more of the barfine? Barfine on Burgos at night is like 3500-3900 for most bars. Are you sure of this that they are getting at least 1700 of the barfine? I've never heard that from any of them and I was just there. My understanding is that they get 1000 from barfines like that. At somewhere like Rogues, it's less as so is the barfine. My understanding also is that the women at EDSA don't get any of the barfine so please correct me on this. I personally don't like to take out of EDSA or Burgos as the lighting is far too kind to the women inside and it's a crapshoot whether they will perform, but you do get to see the bodies a lot more so than other places and get to see some beautiful sights.

Also, I was in LA Cafe and have been there plenty over the years. There are definitely girls available at 1500 or less for long time, but there also girls there who won't even bother with someone at that price. I know and have seen them reject a person continuously at that price. I think a lot of the women can be had for that price for LT especially late night, but I definitely don't think the top looking ones go for that on a daily basis if at all. My friend was trying to get this one girl who had the best body by far in the place and good face, and she walked away without hesitation at 2000. Maybe it's me and my friends that we can't get the hot girls at LA for 1500 long time or maybe something else is going on. Thanks in advance.It is simple, one big numbers game. Just as in sales, you have to be in the game. Don't wait for the women to approach you. They won't. You most likely look like a local. You have to take matters into your own hands. See a woman you like, go for it, speaking your "American English" most women will be surprised. Surprised and happy to be speaking to a brown American. Try it, you can't be shy. Just walk around the malls (Glorietta, Greenbelt, Mall of Asia, ETC) and the various Starbucks.

Well I'm British and of asian decent, and when I was there a few weeks back I got a lot of girls looking my way.

I got even more girls giggling between each other when looking at me when I go to the provinces, cue my entrance to introduce myself ^_^ Even if you look asian, you'll be dressed and acting like a foreign guy, so you will stand out and they will know...

Stay at the Marriott near Terminal 3, friend is having same issues as you and he said he got a fantastic rate via Expedia or Travelocity. Never been thbere myself but have passed it many times as I take CP to Cebu mainly as close by T3

AC's too far. Take taxi into Makati and stay in one of the many hotels on P. Burgos. I like Oxford Suites, but there are many more. Taxi trip shouldn't take more than an hour except during rush hours. Enjoy!

Retired military officer Jesus Kabigting of the government's Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking said the raid was conducted in response to the US State Department's report on [CodeWord908] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord908) in the Philippines.

The US State Department said the Philippines remains in the Tier 2 list of countries whose governments have failed to show improved efforts to curb [CodeWord908] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord908).

Representatives from the Manila Police District, Department of Social Welfare and Development and Department of Labor of Employment raided the LA Cafe at the corner of M.H. Del Pilar and R. Salas streets in Malate around 10:30 p.m..

Kabigting said majority of the women are being peddled to to foreigners in Malate district. He said some of those rescued were only waitresses, but are also considered as victims of forced labor and [CodeWord908] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord908).

It said that despite several labor trafficking cases were filed, the Philippine government never convicted any offenders.
