Hutsori, you certainly have an attention to detail. I have one question. I don't have a map in front of me and I'm not sure about the location of the htl you mentioned, but I'm thinking a walk to Roxas is shorter than a walk to UN. So, what is the advantage of walking to UN?

I have to admit that trying to catch a taxi in front of the malate church (on Roxas) is often a problem. I thought the big restaurant there (forgot the name) would be a good place to find a cab, but not so. Most of the taxis passing already had customers. I may be answering my own question here.Both of you must like walking an awful lot and being pestered by the assorted street scum that will dog your every step. It would be far simpler for him to hang a right on leaving MBC and walk a mere 30 metres to the end of Salas where there is an access road that runs parallel to the northbound (left to right) lane of Roxas but which has two way traffic flow. Here there are frequent empty cabs to be found which misses out the traffic clog of the one-way jeepney routed Mabini or Del Pilar altogether. Its the way, when I used to be a frequent LAC visitor, that I used to escape the street detritus and taxi mafia on Del Pilar when I was escorting my latest squeeze as rapidly as possible to our sin soaked rendezvous in my hot sheeter of choice.

As you rightly point out X, he could probably cross this road and flag down a north bound taxi on the busy three lane Roxas Boulevard but what would be the point and if he is heading to the airport, he would need to be going in the opposite direction in any case?

The waitress will push you to buy the girl a drink, and it'll always be the shake at a whopping p300. You may want to leave your bags at the airport's luggage storage if you're returning to the same terminal.As I unfortunately found out earlier this year, Terminal 1 has no storage lockers or any sort. The best I could find was someone who would put them behind a checkin counter but make no guarantees to make sure they were watched. So I took my luggage with me to Starfleet and then back to the airport.

Terminal 3 definitely has a luggage storage room. I just can't recall if one exists at Terminal 2.

Landed in Manila at 11am Thursday night, I was very tired but I didn't want to just go to my hotel at The Mandarin Oriental and sleep. I check in and find out the hotel is girl friendly, but I have to pay if I bring more then one chick to my room. I then go to Prive at the fort (500 php entrance which comes with 2 drinks) , and I have to say these are by far the hottest chicks in Manila. Facebook the Prive page to see what I am talking about. Next stop was Imperial Bar located right next to Prive. There were more dudes then chicks so I left right away. Next stop was Club Haze located right next to Imperial Bar. I decided that even though I will be here for 2 months I will not go to mbc, because I find its easy to meet up / get numbers from the chicks from Burgos street and the chicks in burgos are most likely better looking. Even though that is the case I did decide to go to Havana Cafe in Greenbelt 3 to see whats up. Got there at 11:45 and its packed since they had a Spanish singer and band playing. My first thoughts is that its a very small place (I thought it would be bigger). I think 80% of the girls were fl's and I soon found myself surrounded my 6 of them waiting for me to say hello to them. I did see 2 that I would talk to but the night was young and I wanted to go to Palladium and Republic before the end of the night, and did not want to go to these clubs and be tied down.

the bars were on burgos and most close at 5am, and it was 4:30am when i started to go into all of them. i didn't buy any drinks, i just wanted to have a peek. this is my first time in burgos, so walking into all the bars was great for me to see the locations in case i wanted to spend a longer time in any of them in the future.

the night starts with a text from the plan b girl i met on day one, she claims i told her that i was going to take her to republic. i probably did, but i know if i do then she will think its a date. i don't think i ever mentioned i am also married lol, so i have no intention on getting girlfriends. i decided today will be republic or prive again, but then i get a pm from a fellow forum member, saying he was impressed with everything i did on my first 2 days and that he wants to meet up. i said sure, since i always prefer to go out will people, but never can since when i go on business trips my peers are always 45 and over. i meet him in cafe havana and was surprised how young he is, lol and this is coming from a guy who is 27. he tells me he is 20 and a bit inexperience, with a tight budget, but still would like advice and to hang out with me. he was a real nice guy, and very humble so since i am here for so long i decided that i would try to show him a good time and give him any tips and help can. i decided that republic / prive would not be good for him based on his budget and the type of girls he mentioned he likes. we sit at a table outside and i invite him to a drink so we can get to know each other more.

now for the actual report.

havana was no where near as packed as it was yesterday night (friday) , and the girls there did not look as good as yesterday, and this was a bad omen for the night to come. just so you all know i am super picky when it comes to girls. i just want to let you all know when i say there are no good looking girls, i am talking about my tastes (everyone has there own tastes based on age, race, body type ect). this is also why in 2 months i might be with only 6-20 girls, when other experts on this forum will be with 25-80. at the table i am sitting at with the guy from the forum, there are 3 chicks who are about 18-20 years old who are right up his ally. he was very shy or intimidated, but still pulls one of the girls numbers. they aren't talking to each other since i think they both are shy, so i pull him inside the bar so i could take over for him via text messaging. throughout the night i tell him word for word what to tell the girl so that he can get her to meet him up on another day (which worked). i decided before we go to the clubs in qc that another forum member had pm me about. he recommended that i take him to a gogo bar first. girls here have to be all over you, so i thought he could practice his game on them and it would boost his confidence for later in the night.

i go to palladium (500php with 1 drink) i told the girl i should at least get 2 drinks since i came yesterday. her co worker whispers something to her and she tells me that its only one drink but if i kiss her coworker downstairs on the lips she will give me 2 additional drinks for free. i didn't find her attractive, but i didn't want to be a dick either, so i lied and said i am meeting a girl downstairs and didn't want to be disrespectful. i go inside and its packed but i didn't like any of girls. i wish my friend had come because there are a bunch of the types of girls he likes and doesn't appear they are fl's. i sit at a table to finish my drink and like and 5 minutes a bunch of girls sit at the tables around me. i wish i wasn't picky, because there all waiting for me to talk to them. there are bunch of guys in there 40's who notice the chicks are staring me down waiting for me to approach them and the guys are giving me dirty looks, no doubt talking shit. i can see some of them are making gestures with fake sun glasses on and laughing that i have them on, but i am used to guys hating on me and only care about what the ladies think. one has the balls to come up to me, he laughs and say "i don't see any sun". i stand up (i'm much taller and double his size) , i take off my glasses and reply to him "i am wearing sun glasses so its harder to see the faces of pussies like you". he get intimidated and says he is sorry, and then his friend comes to apologize and offers me a shot from his jaggermister bottle. i said sure. i take it and then i leave for time.

it's 4am and its packed at time. i am pretty down because i haven't had any women i liked enough to try my game on them. even though this place is packed, again i didn't find any women to my likeing. my friend shows up and i see him talking to a bunch of girls and i try to give him encouragement and advice to continue. i end up going back to my hotel and go sleep. day 3 wasn't good for me but happy to hear my new friend had a good time. i am not sure if anything is open on sunday but i won't have a report till next saturday since i have to work during the night monday through friday.

I spent my first and final nights of my Philippines trip in Manila since I wanted to use the Swagman service to get me to Sabang Beach and Angeles City (will write separate trip reports on those locations). The Swagman hotel provides free airport pickup and after a short delay due to my first time at Terminal 1 and the chaos even at a late 11 pm Saturday night, the Swagman girl still managed to find me. Actually, I asked the security lady if she knew the Swagman people and she pointed the Swagman rep with the sign (which I missed earlier).

Getting to the Swagman was relatively smooth since traffic was relatively mild that late. When I got to the hotel, my impression was that the neighbourhood was a complete dump but not too unsafe since there were still many kids playing outside. I was not however impressed with my standard room on the fifth floor as it looked really run down. It was clean though so since I had to get downstairs at 7 am to see if the Sabang bus was going to run at 8 am, I went straight to bed. I wasn't going to check out Manila Bay Cafe and other places nearby until at the end of my entire trip.

So fast forward to the final night in Philippines when at noon on the Friday, the Swagman bus service picked me up in Angeles City right at my hotel, the Devera, which happens to sell Swagman tickets at front desk. I made it back from AC to the Swagman hotel by 2 pm and decided to walk around the neighbourhood to scope out the local geography.

Street Safety.

I asked the Swagman security guy about safety walking the streets at night and he said it wasn't a problem especially if I stay on the main routes like Del Pinar, Mabini and Roxas streets. I took Pinar and within 10 minutes, found G-Point where nothing was happening yet. I proceeded south back on Pilar to drop into Amazonia where there were some freelancers and what looked like ex-pats by mid afternoon. But I really wanted to check out the main spot which was Manila Bay Cafe (MBC).

When I got to MBC at about 2:30 pm, there were already lots of girls there. Since I wasn't planning on any fun until later, I went back to the Swagman for a short nap. Pilar is a direct street to walk between the Swagman and MBC but the sidewalk is uneven and narrow at points. I didn't like this walk much even though it was pretty safe. There was just too much riff raff including lots of begging kids on that route.

So I decided to use Roxas instead when I ventured out at 5 pm back to MBC. The time it took was about the same but there was much more space on Roxas walking on the side of the commercial buildings. Plus there were much less riff raff and kids to potentially hassle me. Within ten minutes, I found MBC again but via Roxas instead of Pinar.

How The Place Works.

The place had gotten pretty busy so I ordered a pineapple juice which they gave me in a can and charged me 110 pesos for it. A bit of a ripoff, but I won't ***** about 110 pesos. I parked myself at the main circular shaped bar on the side towards the ladies washroom. This turned out to be a good strategic spot as many of the girls, who are all freelancers, would walk past me. I can get a fair idea of who might be around.

For the next hour, I was getting a steady stream of girls coming up to me asking where I was from and all that. There were girls sitting near the walls and glass areas who were smiling at me from a distance. But I wasn't about make my way across the room to meet them since there was already enough wild game to hitting on me first. We had fun guessing where my home country was since I'm Asian but speaks English with a perfect North American accent. It was strange for these girls though.

With most of these girls after some polite conversation, I told them I wasn't interested in taking them and just wanted to chill out. I said I didn't want to waste their time and they appreciated it. Some politely moved on but some would just stay to chat some more despite no chance of getting business from me. And this I found to be a real fun factor at MBC. Many girls there do seem to enjoy chatting.

I settled with one girl who calls herself Angel. She admits to being part Spanish when I told her that she has a Latino look to her. After getting good enough vibes from her, I asked if she was willing to walk the ten minutes to the Swagman and she said sure.

She quoted 2500 P at first for short time and when I said she would have to do better than that, she said she would settle for 1500 P, which I agreed to. She also told me that it would be better to meet me just outside the bar instead of leaving MBC together. According to her, the MBC staff will try to get me to order 300 P lady drinks. I don't know if this was true or not but I agreed to meet her outside.

When Angel and I got back to the Swagman via Roxas, the security asked for her I'd which she complied with. I told her not to expect too much luxury from the room but she didn't mind after we got up there.

She turned out to be a pretty good GFE session even though the massage part she originally promoted back at the MBC didn't happen. This was okay with me since I just wanted one last bang anyway before I take off for the airport.

So for 1500 P plus an extra 100 P she asked for taxi, I thought it was a good deal. She was not a clock watcher and was actually surprised I finished faster than perhaps she thought I would take. I agreed to give her the extra 100 if I could take a few photos of her. No refusals here so after our session was over, I walked her back down to the lobby so she could collect her I'd. I wanted to stay downstairs anyway to have my final dinner in Philippines. I thought it was a fun place. Even with no hope for my business, many of the girls and I did have some pleasant conversations and to me this was part of the overall fun.

For a future trip back to Philippines, I would gladly spend 1-2 nights in Manila again. I might want another hotel with better rooms than at the Swagman but still with quick easy walks to MBC.

I have been to Manila dozens of times before and partook of the Havana Cafe, Burgos Clubs and EDSA talent, but never before thought to go to MBC. I am about to buy a new phone (Galaxy S4) and was wondering how concerned I would need to be walking around Malate at night. Has anyone been or heard of someone being out right robbed?

I know kids and youth trying to pickpocket you fairly is fairly common. Although haven't heard much about violent style robberies. I was in Manila and walked around Malate at night in Feb for a few days and didn't have any issues, however that is a very small sample size.

I would be pretty pissed if my new 600 dolar phone got stolen.The biggest risk to a phone is the owner himself. You're sitting at a bar texting someone, put it down, get distracted for a few minutes, and voila... it's gone. The loss of the phone sucks; the loss of all the contacts you've acquired is shattering. Having experienced this I've learnt a bit.

At a minimum: when you buy your SIM keep the PUK that the SIM is attached to. If the phone is lost or stolen you can go to a Smart or Globe office and recover your number by showing the clerk the PUK and paying a nominal fee. Though this doesn't recover your contacts and the messages, those who have you as their contact will still be able to sms / call you. There is one gotcha to be aware of: a SIM belongs to a series, so to recover the number a SIM of the same series needs to be used. In my unfortunate experience I had to travel far to distant Smart office that had the appropriate SIM.

Even better: back up your contacts (and messages) to your computer. If you can't be bothered or don't travel with a computer Smart offers an inexpensive backup service where your contacts are uploaded to their servers and can be retrieved. I reckon Globe offers a similar service.

Of course it's best to keep your phone safely in your pocket anytime you're not using it.

My recommendation is to purchase a cheaper smart phone (I use a samsux gt-s5360) at $100 - $150.

Because I assume you just need a local number and second phone for calling or texting possible hook-ups or receiving messages from them then having a cheap and simple call and text phone means you can use it anywhere.

Keep the fancy phone for whatever else you need to do with it when you are in a secure location such as your room.

You don't need to be paranoid about answering a cheap phone or texting on the street or in a mall as nobody will take a scrap of notice if you have one.

I just booked 16 nights at the GoHotel near Robinsons Otis on Guazon Ave. Someone had previously told me about the hotel being new and clean for around 20 USD a night and that it didn't have any over night guest policy. However, during the booking process you must fill in your guest's name and ID number. I wrote in a fake name and ID obviously.

This was the first time I ever had to wait for KAL in Manila and I never have to wait for them in ORD. Pick up and drop off at ORD are also much easier as KAL is in the smallish international terminal.

Crazy two days.

Had a midnightish flight out of NAIA 1 tonight to USA and it lived up to each and every article I have read about it this week. It was an utter clusterf*k. Hundreds of people outside for no apparent reason upon getting dropped off. Guys wanting bribes because "long lines 4 hours sir." Of course I left my phone, keys and glasses in my pants pocket before going through the metal detector at the terminal door. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. No ding, no ping, wala and I had a bigger patdown search leaving National Bookstore before going to the airport than I did at the airport.

Inside was indecipherable. At least 1, 000 people and lines in every direction. It was 49 minutes of standing in line to check in. Filipinos and lines. Wow the Spanish really screwed those people up. Out of the blue a KAL girl walks up to me while there were at least a dozen more people ahead of me, opens the ribbon and says "Window 46 sir." I could've kissed her. She left all the Filipinos ahead of me standing there. I left them in the dust.I haven't had that kind of problem at Terminal 1 for about two years now. I actually think things are a lot better there now. Immigration lines both ways have been smaller and quicker. I haven't had any long lines checking into the airlines lately at all. I have seen it busy outside. A lot of people just seem to be out there and not traveling, not sure. Two times I have been out there when there has been crazy lines, I was looking near the doors that lead to the first security check and a security guard has ushered me in past all the locals into the security check because I was a foreigner. I have been going there 3-4 times a year now for awhile.

In Phi there is no clear cut virgin or not a virgin classification as I am sure many of the mongers including me can attest to so called " Virgins" in AC bars only to find out they are not real virgins after barfining.

Made a 10 day business trip to Manila back in September went to the various locations that I'll discuss in more posts.

a security guard has ushered me in past all the locals into the security check because I was a foreigner. I have been going there 3-4 times a year now for awhile.I have had similar experiences. One security guard showed me a way that consistently gets you inside faster. The long lines of locals seem to build up near the entrance to the far right as you face the departure terminal. If you go down to the left, there is another door with what is usually a much shorter line pointed in the opposite direction. I have never waited in this other line more than a couple minutes. It often seems to me that many locals waiting at the door to the right end of the terminal are not actually flying, because they seem to hang out along the windows rather than actually get in line. Everybody give yourselves a break by going down to the door to the left (toward NAIA Terminal 2).

The Gods sure were smiling on me today. I found a good guy taxi driver. He does an immediate illegal u-turn and pulls up in front of me. Tell him where I'm bound and he says 'sure, hop in'. No humming and harring, whines about the 'traffic' or requests for extra pesos. He sets the meter and away we go. He keeps me entertained for the next 40 minutes with stories about his 45 years of taxi driving in Manila (he must have been at least 70) and how things had changed, including the two times he had been robbed, both times by 'moslems'. He was a good driver too, anticipating gaps and expertly taking the right option every time. I was impressed.

Needless to say, I gave him a big, unasked for tip which he politely thanked me for. The guy sure was savvy. I'll bet he is the best tipped taxi driver in Manila.

I have experienced this personally many times by participants in seminar sessions that I have conducted. They must break for meals at the appointed times or they will feel "weak and ready to faint".

I suspect this example with the cabbie is something like that. An opportunity for some drama.

Next thing, the bar girl goes to the ATM with the two ladies and hands over Bht 90, 000. The ladies dissapear. The bargirl then reports this to the police. Similar sort of story. The wisdom of the comments section was that the girl had a gambling problem and this was her way of explaining to her partner that she had "lost" the money.

Bot of course if such a chemical were to exist. Wow. The possibilities of all ending up in a dazed state (more than we already are ). Are unlimited.

TACLOBAN, Philippines (Reuters). One of the strongest typhoons ever to make landfall devastated the central Philippines, killing more than 1, 000 people in one city alone and 200 in another province, the Red Cross estimated on Saturday, as reports of high casualties began to emerge.

A day after Typhoon Haiyan churned through the Philippine archipelago in a straight line from east to west, rescue teams struggled to reach far-flung regions, hampered by washed out roads, many choked with debris and fallen trees.

The death toll is expected to rise sharply from the fast-moving storm, whose circumference eclipsed the whole country and which late on Saturday was heading for Vietnam.

Among the hardest hit was coastal Tacloban in central Leyte province, where preliminary estimates suggest more than 1, 000 people were killed, said Gwendolyn Pang, secretary general of the Philippine Red Cross, as water surges rushed through the city.

"An estimated more than 1, 000 bodies were seen floating in Tacloban as reported by our Red Cross teams," she told Reuters."In Samar, about 200 deaths. Validation is ongoing."

She expected a more exact number to emerge after a more precise counting of bodies on the ground in those regions.

Witnesses said bodies covered in plastic were lying on the streets. Television footage shows cars piled atop each other.

"The last time I saw something of this scale was in the aftermath of the Indian Ocean Tsunami," said Sebastian Rhodes Stampa, head of the U. N. Disaster Assessment Coordination Team sent to Tacloban, referring to the 2004 earthquake and tsunami.

"This is destruction on a massive scale. There are cars thrown like tumbleweed and the streets are strewn with debris."

The category 5 "super typhoon" weakened to a category 4 on Saturday, though forecasters said it could strengthen again over the South China Sea en route to Vietnam.

Authorities in 15 provinces in Vietnam have started to call back boats and prepare for possible landslides. Nearly 300, 000 people were moved to safer areas in two provinces alone. The Nang and Quang Nam. According to the government's website.

The Philippines has yet to restore communications with officials in Tacloban, a city of about 220, 000. A government official estimated at least 100 were killed and more than 100 wounded, but conceded the toll would likely rise sharply.

The national disaster agency has yet to confirm the toll but broken power poles, trees, bent tin roofs and splintered houses littered the streets of the city about 580 km (360 miles) southeast of Manila.

"IT WAS LIKE A TSUNAMI"

The airport was nearly destroyed as raging seawaters swept through the city, shattering the glass of the airport tower, leveling the terminal and overturning nearby vehicles.

"Almost all houses were destroyed, many are totally damaged. Only a few are left standing," said Major Rey Balido, a spokesman for the national disaster agency.

Local television network ABS-CBN showed images of looting in one of the city's biggest malls, with residents carting away everything from appliances to suitcases and grocery items.

Airport manager Efren Nagrama. 47, said water levels rose up to four meters (13 ft) in the airport.

"It was like a tsunami. We escaped through the windows and I held on to a pole for about an hour as rain, seawater and wind swept through the airport. Some of my staff survived by clinging to trees. I prayed hard all throughout until the water subsided."

Across the country, about a million people took shelter in 37 provinces after President Benigno Aquino appealed to those in the typhoon's path to leave vulnerable areas.

"For casualties, we think it will be substantially more," Aquino told reporters.

Officials started evacuating residents from low-lying areas, coastlines and hilly villages as early as three days before the typhoon struck on Friday, officials said. But not all headed the call to evacuate.

"I saw those big waves and immediately told my neighbors to flee," said Floremil Mazo, a villager in southeastern Davao Oriental province.

Meteorologists said the impact may not be as strong as feared because the storm was moving so quickly, reducing the risk of flooding and landslides from torrential rain, the biggest causes of typhoon casualties in the Philippines.

Ferry services and airports in the central Philippines remained closed, hampering aid deliveries to Tacloban, although the military said three C-130 transport planes managed to land at its airport on Saturday.

At least two people were killed on the tourist destination island of Cebu, three in Iloilo province and another three in Coron town in southwestern Palawan province, radio reports said.

"I never thought the winds would be that strong that they could destroy my house," LynLyn Golfan of Cebu said in a television interview while sifting through the debris.

By Saturday afternoon, the typhoon was hovering 765 km west of San Jose in southwestern Occidental Mindoro province, packing winds of a maximum 185 kph, with gusts of up to 220 kph.

The storm lashed the islands of Leyte and Samar with 275-kph wind gusts and 5-6 meter (15-19 ft) waves on Friday before scouring the northern tip of Cebu province. It weakened slightly as it moved west-northwest near the tourist island of Boracay, later hitting Mindoro island.

Haiyan was the second category 5 typhoon to hit the Philippines this year after Typhoon Usagi in September. An average of 20 typhoons strike every year, and Haiyan was the 24th so far this year.

Last year, Typhoon Bopha flattened three towns in southern Mindanao, killing 1, 100 people and causing damage of more than $1 billion.

This massive typhoon Haiyan may well be one of the worst natural disaster this century for the poor island country of the Phil. It was a cat 4 compared to hurricane Katrina against New Orleans, which was a cat 3. The pictures of bloated dead bodies are shocking, just like the Tsunami that happened to the Adaman sea.

I am a soft touch. I cannot forget all the fun times and tender moments I spent with the nice, sweet girls of the Philippines. Their pains are my pains.

a lot of talk in the manila cetion is about burgos (to expensive) , mbc (too many fuglies) , and internet hookups (too time consuming). where's the mainstream action that caters to the philipinos, like "casas" and streetwalkers. what about cheap action like 500-1000p. surely there has to be something more out there?most areas of manila has local streetwalker and bar (usually ktv) action but the quality can be a bit hit and miss and you have to be very careful about **** girls amongst the sws. if you wanted to experience a little action, local style, i would recommend carriedo which is full of ktvs with available girls and a lot of street meat. they do see the occasional foreign visitor breeze through so you won't be too much of a novelty but i would advise going with a wingman.

I usually know tongue-in-cheek when I read it, but I did like the metaphor about stuff caught in the bark near the bases of trees. And I would point out that the stuff that gets caught is relative to the characteristics of the bark, which further reflects whether it is a conifer vs. Deciduous vs. Bamboo forest.

I am not sure the best forum for this post, all about eating in Manila.

I am pretty impressed with some of the places I ate in Manila / Makati, compared to my last visit.

I learned to stay away from the restos in Greenbelt, way too expensive and food barely passable. Breakfast at the hotel soon got old once the excitement faded of bringing my sweet young thing to the table past glaring caucasian women and their envious men.

For an american style diner, I visited Filling Station a lot on Burgos. Apparently Filling Station is owned by the same owner as a lot of the clubs there, but it does a fairly good imitation of a 50's diner. They have a seperate smoking section. The American breakfasts with sausages (not wieners or longanisa) , pancakes, waffles and real coffee is a change from much filipine fare. Not cheap but worth it.

For pizza, I really loved Yellow Cab Pizza. Really good, but not cheap. All delivery as far as I now. I hated Shakeys pizza which is was way too thin.

For an economic breakfast, we did Jollibee a couple of times. For 89p you could have 1 egg, garlic rice, beef tapas (or some such meat) and a drink (coffee or sugary juice).

A decent Italian resto can be found on Polaris close to Durban. Can't remember the name, but the pasta was pretty good.

The Filipino BBQ joints along Makati are all pretty good if you like BBQ Chicken, or pork on a stick along with rice. If you take out, great, if you eat there, you'll probably be the only non Filipino's there.

As posted in the chat room forum, I didn't get have much experience outside of my DIA hookups, however MBC was a must on my list.

I made my way to MBC on a November 11th, a Monday afternoon about 4pm after making some feeble excuse to my "temporary Filipina wife". I wasn't impressed by the line up there. Most girls were 3-5's, in their late 20's. A few younger girls were clustered around a couple of fellow mongers who looked like they were korean.

I nursed a couple of beers while hoping that the situation would improve. Oddly enough, there was a supposedly deaf girl who communicated by writing things on paper, but she seemed to have a friend acting as mama san. There actually seemed to be a couple of mama sans around who were promoting their 'girls'.

Eventually, in order to keep my membership in this grotty fraternity of punters, I decided I had to take a girl, so I chose a 25 year old, while not petite, wasn't fat either. She had a pockmarked face, but her body looked reasonable. We negotiated ST for 1500, which I thought was a bit much, but by this time, another brain had taken over. We ended up going two doors down to an apartment hotel that seemed quite new and clean. I am not talking about Amazonia, across the street and down the road. This one was actually on the same side of Del Pilar as MBC and only a few steps away from MBC. Very convenient. I think the 4 hour rate was around 500 but not sure. Anyway, once in the room, the AC and TV was turned on, my date made the bed and we started. Kissing was almost non existent. Everything was very mechanical. Oddly enough, I had no problems coming, contrasted with my almost perfect Filipino wife from DIA.

There is almost nothing memorable about this event, other than the hotel. I wish other members better luck at MBC.

A couple of other punter observations I should mention. My "wife" and I visited greenbelt a few times in the early evening around 8-9pm, and I always steered us past Havana and Starbucks in GB3 to check out the action. I didn't see anything worth while. Some older women seated alone at Starbucks outside. Not even any LBs. Definitely nothing I would be interested in. A good thing I had my filipina wife.

Also, I had chatted with the massage girls hanging around burgos, makati avenue at durham. There were some LB's supposedly offering massages. Some genuine uniformed massage girls who waffled on "extra service" saying massage first. Some un-uniformed girls offering massage with service. Having read the warning in the washroom at the Filling Station that states these girls have life ending diseases, I abstained. Of course, the Filling Station has the same owner as many of the other bars on burgos, so its in their interest to keep guys away from the street and in their expensive clubs.

There you have it, this report and my previous ones in the Chat Room forum sum up my 3 weeks in the phils. I had grandiose schemes of a diffent girl every night, sampling MBC, EDSA and a full list of DIA girls. It didn't happen, but I am satisifed, in fact amazed, at the time I had. For a 50ish guy to have a 21 year old treating me like a king is amazing. To be able to walk into the hotel breakfast room with her hanging on my arm, enduring the glares from caucasian anglo whale women, and the envying looks from their husbands, was an experience of a lifetime.

Now I am back in the USA, suffering pangs of withdrawal. Girl number 2 and I have exchanged loving messages where she swears she loves me. I am just holding my breath waiting for the "honey, I have sick", or "honey, my son has sick", at which time, messaging on my end will go dark. If it doesn't then there is a good chance I'll hook up with her the next time I am in the Phils, whenever I can:

1) save money

2) get vacation

3) come up with another plausible excuse for my asexual girlfriend here.

Of course if I do return to phils, I should schedule girl number 2 at the end of the trip, so I am able to sample other girls before I get ensnared with her.

The above Spiral Dinner buffet in sofitel has rave reviews all over the net. It is a bit expensive but claims to have the biggest buffet in entire Asia and one of the tops in the world. You can check out the vidoes as well on youtube. I plan to check this place out next month for its sheer size and what not as it claims to be.

Also, Yellow Cab Pizza is amazing...Coming from an American member...you must have tasted it all back home....I'm from India...Just curry and nothing to compare...But once i tasted Yellow Cab....I really thought it was special....I really needed this confirmation as my bro is in US and he brags about all Italian food he gets to eat and i said....We also have Pizza's in Manila that are world class.....

Even though they spun off the Singapore version, they toned down the spice level and serve Prata with Sugar and insist that this is how people in SG eat (yes, some eat with Sugar, a-la Dessert / snack, but not for meals.)

Heck, the Indonesian Restaurant in Green Belt gave a new meaning to Oxtail Soup. It was smothered in Sugar.

The Indian at the 3rd floor (Bollywood?) was more nicer.

Then again, the Thai food I found in PH were more spicier. And closer to original, than the 'localised' foods.

The best Thai Curry I had was in Rivera Mansion. LOL

I think Manila have the worst in Dinning for a big city in Asia.You haven't been to Seoul, have ya? The Korean food is great of course, but every other cuisine is mediocre at best, more often done poorly, and over priced.

Overall I've been very pleased with dining here from basic canteens to fine dining. My chief compliant is many of the cheap places serve cold rice which I'm not a fan of. I would recommend staying away from the malls if you want to eat very well. Finding where to go is easy enough; Manila is a very info friendly city and the dining scene is well served by several dozen knowledgeable bloggers / reviewers. Just google "best ________ in Manila" or "top 10 _______ in Manila" and you'll find decent reviews and recommendations.

the yellow cab reminds me of a girl i met at a ktv bar close to robinson's on my first trip to phil a few years ago. i wondered in to the bar one evening and picked her to come sit with me from a line up of girls along the wall. there were a couple japanese guys inside singing karaoke while a group of girls lit their cigarettes and massaged them.

the girl i picked was about 23 and very pretty and knew how to milk me for drinks and make small talk. i was able to get her # and went back to the hotel alone because she said they don't barfine there. i was lucky to be able to get another girl i saw on a previous night to come back for 2nds that night.

well i traded texts with the ktv girl the next day and explained what i wanted to do with her back at the hotel. she was willing to meet me at robinson's mall for dinner. she wanted yellow cab. ah ok whatever hon. i met her at the entrance and as we walked by the stores toward yellow cab she started with buy me this and buy me that shit. i was new to phil but not dumb. as we passed the phone store she practically demanded me to buy her a new phone. i said sure i will get you one tomorrow after we go fuck at the hotel tonight. lol. she said oh why not now? i don't know why i continued with the date but i did. remember this was my first trip.

we ordered food at yellow cab and i tried to figure this girl out. she was very skilled at giving me the right answers. she played coy at coming to my hotel after dinner and mentioned she would come after her work. she asked if she could get something to go to take to work and i said ok. before i knew it she ordered the largest most expensive pizza on the menu. wtf? it was already being made before i figured it out and i ended up paying for it. i think i paid like $30 for the pizza plus our dinner. at this point i was over this sexy girl.

so we exited yellow cab and she said she had to go [CodeWord134] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord134) and i was stuck standing there holding this huge fucking pizza feeling like a sucker. as she was in the cr i said fuck it and left her and took the pizza back to my hotel and gave it to the staff. lol.

the hotel staff treated me pretty good after that so it wasnt a total waste.

I have had curries every day for the last 36 years. I wanted to try something different. Yellow Cab Pizza was a breath of fresh air. I ordered it often during my stay in Manila. In India, the Pizza's they make is a crime on humanity, it taste like curry side dish. They use Indian Masalas over pizza. And I know I will never be able to make it to Italy, so when I tasted yellow cab. I was blown away. Compared to back home. Getting a good pizza in Asia was unbelievable. And the poster from US mentioned that he liked pizza in Manila and he must have tasted one and all back home. I knew then. Yellow cab pizzas have good quality.

Do not try Indian food in Manila. They were started by 5-6 money lending business communities not by chef who are passionate about Indian food. Every single restaurant in Manila is owned by a money lender from India. However, there are good options in Bangkok, also in Pattaya that are reasonably priced.

In the late eighties, I used to spend hours on traffic clogged Bangkok streets just to get to the Royal Indian in Chakrephet, which at that time was the only authentic Indian curry house in Bangkok. Now there are many high end Indian restaurants in both Bangkok and Pattaya serving the best Indian food that you will find outside the sub-continent, London, Birmingham or Bradford. I still have foodie wet dreams about the stupendous biriani served at Mrs Balbir's on Sukhumvit Soi 11. Lovely lady too.

lesson learned.excellent experience on what to look for. i guess there are girls that have very early worked out how to milk guys for the extras. for me usually it is something like, she wants the trike paid as soon as she arrives, then needs jollibee, then needs something for something else. i think however that reading this forum and from being in the country it is very obvious that there are many many pinay that are too polite to ask for anything. so, this has reminded me, be cautious of any pinay looking for gifts and pleasantries up front.

Finding where to go is easy enough; Manila is a very info friendly city and the dining scene is well served by several dozen knowledgeable bloggers / reviewers. A couple of days ago, I checked the top 100 restaurants incManila on Trip Advisor. Starbucks is listed as number sixteen. I think that pretty much says it all. Truly fine dining is simply unavailable here though decent, acceptable restaurants are available. For the most part, Filipinos know little about culinary excellence, and quantity and low cost transcend quality. Chain restaurants are, for many, the epitome of excellence.

I almost always notice that the finer resto's have very few local patrons and the fast food places are packed with them (even well heeled ones) ; especially Jollibee's and McDo's. Even the few girls I've met who come from better families and are well educated generally prefer fast food over a finer resto; and if they do accompany you into a better establishment they will almost always order a Filipino dish or pasta (which many cover with hot sauce or worse plaster with ketchup, yuk!).

Agree with Hutsori, there are quite a wide range of good to excellent options in Manila.

Just in Greenbelt 5 and 4 (opposite to the infamous havana cafe) you can find some decent Filipino places, one good thai, one average spanish thing. Prices are VERY reasonable compared to other places of the same standard in other countries in the region (Jakarta, BBangkok) , you can either dine outside or inside, service is great.

If you know where to go and don't mind spending you will have no food issues. Try the Sunday Brunch at The Shangra-la Makati and tell me the food sucks in the Philippines. Best quality food and assortment you will ever have. Lets not forget the Philippines has more Hotel Restaurant graduates than any country in the world and trains them for 5 Star service in fine restaurants and Cruise Ships. I believe the criticism within is unwaranted.A friend of mine, European, who managed one of the largest hotels in Davao, once told me the Filipino HRM students spend four years learning how to fold napkins and make beds. He said they were "useless" for any management positions, but, with additional training, became good waiters. That's the assessment of a seasoned hotelier who received his training in Austria. As to the buffet at the Shangri-La, I find it at best acceptable, and fail to see how anyone can conflate buffets anywhere with fine dining. The Philippines also probably graduates more nurses than most other countries though I doubt that anyone would equate that fact with the argument that it has some of the world's best hospitals.

The bottom line for me is that while you can eat reasonably well in Makati and the Fort, even the best restaurants are no better than average places in most of Western Europe or Japan.

Taipei's food is bad, menus limited, restaurants are cramped and environment filthy. The night food markets are dusty and literally smell like shiit. I am very disappointed in the Taiwanese.

Chinese food in China is much better, actually fantastic, with large menus of fresh ingredients, prepared in exquisite ways, served in nice, clean, quiet private banquets rooms. Even the hundreds of night food carts near Tian An Men square offer large varieties of exotic food, all neatly and cleanly displayed in a nice clean pedestrian street.

Man, I would go to China just for the food alone, then after I am filled, I may even think of the sweet, pretty, sexy Chinese girls.

I would recommend visitors to try any malls' food courts for the widest varieties of authentic Phil food in the tastiest, cleanest and most authentic ways. Also try the charbroiled chickens at food carts everywhere. I have to give Pinays good credit for making their charbroiled chickens the tastiest chicken in the world.

Go to the Dusit buffet. Same thing. In my days of long stay in hotels I would be advised by the staff which was the fresh food and which was a few days old tarted up in a sauce so definitely not fine dining.

There are nice restaurants in the Philippines for sure. See the Cebu board for examples. But NONE are Filipino food and all the restaurants I like are run by foreigners, some refusing to serve rice (ever!)

As for mall food courts. The only reason to go there is to find a cutie (plenty there at lunch time as I know LOL) as the greasy smell of the place seems to soak in your clothes and the food is generally awful and bland IMHO.

For many cuties Jollibee is exclusive dining so why go somewhere where they would feel out of place. The girls I see now were initially shy in good places but slowly learnt to enjoy and while still grabbing a McDo and / or Jollibee at times, are appreciative of good food and want to try new things (same as their sex life also. At least when I am involved LOL)

And finally we could start a thread on why bangers and mash, spotted dick (I mean the one with custard) , toad in the hole, fish and chips, pie and mash with mushy peas etc and in general British / Aussie pub food is fantastic but that would mean GE and I disagreeing which is not good for such good friends LOL.

Has anyone wondered why duck is seldom used in Philippine cuisine and duck meat is, in fact, almost impossible to obtain in local supermarkets and wet meat markets? I have because it is my favourite meat. Its not as though they are not bred here as they are the source of the infamous balut eggs (has any member tried one of these? I have. Disgusting!). I once asked a Filipino chef why this was the case. He too was perplexed but thought it was because ducks are considered 'dirty' in The Philippines because they will eat anything. The example he used was if you spit, a duck will gobble your spit up. Weird and a fine example of skewed Pinoy logic as this is a country where pig is king and we all know how choosy pigs are in their dining habits.

We all feel poor if we have to live beneath our own expectations. The trick is to set reasonable and realistic expectations for yourself, then adjust them to match changing circumstances.

As the writer said, the info is not about herself, but a composite of her observations of many people. She sure focuses on some of the poorest people imaginable. A lot of people probably cried, thinking she herself has to put up with all that hardship herself. She raised a whole year worth of salary on just one article. Looks like an excellent way to get out of poverty fast.

You are right. There are a lot of cuties at the food court during lunch time. Man, there are many good-looking pinays crusing the malls.

Well, I don't go to the Phil to find the best American, Chinese, French, German, British or Aussie food.

I would rather spend all my time trying the best of what local would eat. The Phil was not disappointing. I don't think they have fancy banquet-level cuisine, but they do make a wide varieties of tasty foods with local ingredients.

I was taken to the live seafood market by a cutie. Their seafood prices are like double those in California. Then you have to pay the restaurant to cook, primarily Cantonese stir-fry style. The prices are very expensive and the cooking is not that good.

Look forward to trying the best bangers and mash when I am in UK / Autralia.

I like duck myself. A properly roasted duck may even be better than sex with ugly or unresponsive girls.

The Pinoys do eat a lot of baluts. So there must be a lot of ducks around. May be the local Chinese eat them all up!

I am disgusted with the little duckling with full-grown feather, head and feet inside the egg. But if you try the balut fertilized within 5 to 7 days, you can have a very tasty ballut before the duck takes shape. Try it. Don't dish your Pinays' favorite food!

My father used to say of geese that they will eat anything in front of them, shit on anything behind them, and then turn around and repeat the process. I can't imagine that ducks are much different. Obviously some farmers feed all sorts of food garbage to pigs, and Jeju Island off Korea has a special breed of black pigs that traditionally fed from beneath the family outhouse. On the other hand, pigs are fussy about the areas of the pens they inhabit. They eat in one corner, sleep in another, wallow in a third corner, and crap in the fourth corner. Obviously the black pigs of Jeju Island sort of turn this on its ear.

I like a few Filipino dishes, but in general don't care for the excessive amounts of salt, sugar, and fat that are conventions in their cooking (calling it cuisine is, like some British cooking, tempting an oxymoron). But occasionally there are small blessings in Filipino food. For some time I laughed at the tiny little cuts of meat served as "chicken" in Filipino eateries. Scrawny little breasts and drum sticks from birds that must have worked real hard to find food and avoid predation and poaching. And then it occurred to me that unlike with the huge chicken breasts offered in American establishments, at least with Filipino chicken you don't have to worry about injected hormones creating all sorts of lumps and bumps on your skin and other organs.

I know three French chefs here who own restaurants in the Philippines. Two of them have told me that the local ducks aren't good for cooking; apparently they're too skinny. I get excellent magret and confit de canard in Davao at Bon Appétit, but the ducks are imported from France. But this is in Davao and not Manila.

I think that some of us in my generation who love good food and varied cuisines have witnessed a semi-global or at least an international sea change in it's availability. During our lifetimes Large cities in developed countries fairly teem with excellent international restaurants with chefs from all over the world and the old stereotypes no longer hold true. I've had great meals in London, for example, equal to most meals I've eaten in Paris, and equally wonderful European food in New York and Hong Kong. I have also had excellent Thai food in the US and wonderful Western food in Bangkok. However, I don't think the Philippines has quite caught us, though the culinary scene is changing for the better and will continue to do so as more of the younger generation here travel internationally.

My view is you can't really have fine dining or culinary excellence without fine diners or people who demand atmosphere, experience and exclusivity along with their food. From my simple observation, being wealthy here means you take out as many of the family as possible, so it is more advantageous for influence to take the whole brood out to Italliani's and let them go to town on the free bread and bottomless spaghetti rather than take fewer family members to a super exclusive place. Hence the proliferation of Max's, Italliani's, etc. Where the layout is designed to scale up for big groups.

Yes, plenty of good grub in Greenbelt (fillet mignon at Chops is tops, super sushi at Kimpura, authentic Singaporean at Tao Yuan, Chicken Pho at Le Petit Camille, etc.) , but I can walk into ANY restaurant in Greenbelt without reservation in my shorts and sandals, so I wouldn't class that as "fine dining". The obvious fact is when you are the missing demand (fine diners) and thus will not have supply (fine dining). Just doesn't mix with the culture. And unfortunately, the influence of expats will not do much to change the situation. Just not enough of them around to fill the seats.

Queuing for weeks for a dish called bacon and eggs ice cream? In the states we have people that pitched tents starting already last week outside stores that advertise Black Friday sales (day after Thanksgiving; this Friday) in order to queue for the best bargains. I find it much more interesting that anybody would queue for days or weeks to buy anything, than that somebody flavored ice cream with bacon and eggs.You do of course realise that it is an online, metaphorical queue of gastronomes waiting for a reservation? As far as I'm aware there is no queue of anticipatory diners encamped for weeks on end outside Hesters restaurant waiting to sample his weird and wonderful creations.

I had to check Wikipedia as to what a Michelin star is; I couldn't imagine why anybody would want to name food after some French tire brand.Never heard of Michelin Good Food Guides? I checked and no surprise, there are no Michelin star restaurants in Manila. Hong Kong and Macau have some restaurants that made the grade however. I have eaten dim sum at the Imperial Court (MGM Macau) and the Eight (Grand Lisboa) many times. Both restaurants are outstanding. if you ever find yourself mongering in Macau give them a try. Love the braised abalone and roasted pork belly. Lunch was around 300mop.

the restaurant chains in the us like outback, olive garden, red lobster etc. only offer average mass-produced food, nothing like fine dining.

the lobster, shrimp and seafood at red lobster are obviously frozen-defrost varieties. they are edible but don't have the sweetness, freshness and juiciness of fresh ocean food.

the best seafood i had were in a teppanzaki restaurant chain in shenzhen, by the name of taiyu (big fish) , where for $15 each we can order all we can eat and drink from a big menu with hundreds of dishes. just instruct the chef to cook to rare.

outback and olive garden are just average. morton steak house had special recession lunch menu for $15. their steaks are huge and good with large salad, soup, fresh bread, deserts. morton offers some serious steaks.

With the advice of a member I booked a deluxe room in Rothman hotel through Agoda for 4 days. Was happy with the hotel. Location was perfect, room clean (bit smelly though) , shower was ok. Paid 42 $/night.

Sit in front, notice the Meter, If the Meter touches 100 Pesos from 70 even before exiting Airport Area. Call Him on it. And tell him you will complain. He will usually say. Ohh sir, sorry forgot BS and then readjust it with correct meter. Or better go to Departure gate from stairs and get the white taxi but still use the above caution.

2A) The taxi guys are still having 7-8 kids, wife working in Middle East, haven't seen wife for years, have mistress on the side, more babies. One taxi guy came from Province just for the X'Mas Season to make a killing. Has 7-8 kids back home. You can imagine the desperation.

If you can. Don't come NOW. Its madness in Manila. Traffic is very very heavy. And everyone is buying car on credit. Traffic is crazy.
