That is why, among other reasons, I think it is a bad idea to marry a Filipina. Before that she is a cute young thing willing to do anything for you. After that she does what she wants with you, she grows into an old ***** and you can't get away from that thing. All the while, you are surrounded by tempting beauties and you can't have a taste of them!

One of my neighbors in the Philippines is married to a Filipina and bought the house there (under her name of course). He lives in the house 2-3 weeks a year, which is about how much holidays he gets from his job in Germany. For his entire holiday most of what he does is visit her family!
I find that incredibly boring. If I go on holidays in the Philippines I limit my visit/inviting to the strict minimum, but that poor guy does not have a choice. Is that a holiday at all?
I use that opportunity to make a very quick report of my recent visit in the Philippines, mostly from memory. I may not get all the names right.
Spent a short week in Calbayog, Samar. The big advantage of that town is that it is one of the very few in Samar that has an airport.
The town is extremely provincial. Most of the taxis are just pedicab (bicycle) - which actually gives a rare gently and quiet atmosphere. The town is clean and green and surprisingly the people do not really bother you that much. The countryside is beautiful, with green rice fields scenery's and backdrop mountains. For that matter, the landing alone is spectacular.
One of best hotels is a little bit out of town and called Marju-crisel. Rooms are not bad for around 1000 pesos but the big asset is their very big public swimming pool. During the week-end it's full of people. Occasionally you can meet someone there and bring to your room. I almost succeeded in doing that but that delicious looking girl was with friends, so although she really wanted to come in she only got as far as the room entrance. Food is just normal Filipino food (read: nothing really edible for Westerners). They do have wireless Internet, though the girls at the reception will tell that you they don't.
Another interesting place is something called Bacagay resort. It's much closer to town and is a beach. Rooms are really not posh at all (to say the least) but cost only 300 pesos for 24 hours and mostly to be used to fuck local beach beauties you may me lucky enough to find there. Beach and water are nothing special, but it is a beach nevertheless. It's also not bad in the evening, where you can have a quiet candle light diner in a rented hut. Bring your own food though.
Do not go to Malajog or Malaho beach. It's really far (with those slow tricycles) and there is nothing there apart from an overcrowded and dirty beach with no lodging at all even for the day. You will read that the beach is known because celebrities from Manila go there. That's a lie. It may have been the case back when the water may have been clean if that ever happened, but it certainly is not the case now.
Usually, the most lively place in any city is on the "plaza", especially early evening. In Calbayog, however, the plaza, which is in front of the (beautiful) Cathedral, is mostly empty. The meeting place is in the park that is just front of the Jolibee and along the river. Met some girls there but did not succeed in bringing them to my room. I was all enthralled when they agreed to come with me for "gimmick" but not so enthralled anymore when I found out they thought gimmick was food.

You may get something eventually if you are very persistent but you'll need a lot of time. And did I mention you need to speak at least some Tagalog? No, I forgot to mention it...
Mongering-wise at night is quiet. There are the usual karaoke bars and such (about a hand full or a dozen at most). You will find there the type of girls that usually inhabit those abodes- which may do the trick if you are desperate. They also have in town a few very accommodating short time hotels. One of them is "3 guys" or something like that "(something with 3 anyway) near the Ice Plant hotel (that has slow-Internet and noisy rooms for 700 pesos). Another one is at the entrance of baragay Payahan or something.
There are however many opportunities, but, apart from the laborious and time-consuming courting, you will need to know people who know people who know people who know gems who may be willing. That was my case, so the trip was well worth it - plus it was also an overall pleasant quiet green country town discovery. That's what they call sexual tourism I guess.
Even if you don't know anybody, it may be worth to make a quick jump there for the week-end, provided your expectations are not too high. Maybe even bring your own girl with you. The fare is ridiculously low, and it probably won't take long before the bicycles are replaced with noisy polluting motorbike, turning this quiet town into a far too common Filipino nightmare city.
If you are short of time and are happy with bar girls, though, just go to Angeles instead. Many if not most of the girls there come from Samar anyway.
@Puerto La Cruz - If i can escape to AC or Olongapo then the chances of her finding out about me are very low I think. Ilocos norte is pretty far away from AC or Olongapo.

Not gonna happen. You read about a couple of married guys here who sport around, but they live here and 1) have semi-legit reasons to fly to other cities or 2) since their wives are in PI, not USA, the wives have less absolute control over their assets.
Now if you have a real friend who lives somewhere in the PI, and wants to invite you to go golfing, diving... maybe?

Well not all is lost. Its possible in your retirement you can coax her back to the PI to live, and then you can root around in the outlying areas. Good luck with that though. Once she gets a high-paying job in the US, she may never want to leave.

I think most people in Samar speak either Waray-Waray or Cebuano. For us non-native speakers it all sounds like Tagalog, but it isn't in this case.

Skip post - yes, definitely Waray, but my Tagalog went down just fine. Either there is not that much a difference between the two (waray means wala in Tagalog etc) or most people speak Tagalog on top of their local dialect because schools are taught in Tagalog. Alas English gets lost more and more.
X Man - no Internet gals. I don't really have time to spent on Internet chat though that would be an additional asset. I just rely on live people and have learned after many years in the Philippines that it is more important to befriend Filipino men who can help you on the field than try to befriend Filipina girls, because on your own you would not get very far and would only scratch the surface. They will be the ones to look around for me while I just enjoy my holiday at the beach or whatever. Much more easy, but not that easy to find the right kind of help.
For example I remember once going out of LA Cafe alone, having found nothing at all (the quantity of girls over there those days is very high but the quality very low). Then as I go out I bump into this 20 years-old girl selling flowers outside. She was lovely, skinny, and brown skinned. To my eyes she was more pretty than any other girls inside but there was no way I could convince her to come with me. All she wanted was to sell me her flower, not her pussy. I then called one of my Filipino friend to the rescue and after much talk managed to convince her. I could not have done that by myself.
As it turned out, she was absolutely great at BBBJ and even swallowed it all. I still get excited just thinking about it as I write. Big surprise coming from this innocent-looking girl who for the first time went with a foreigner. She said she learned this from her Filipino boyfriend (classical story, meet boyfriend fairly young, make baby, boyfriend running away, now need to feed baby...).She was also very sweet, not like the more experienced girls inside LA.

I think after the tip I gave her she may be looking to repeat the experience. It is not likely that she will ever go inside. The standard of "beauty" in the Philippines is to be very white, straight hair, and slightly chubby. Not thin and especially not brown skinned with curly hairs. Try her if you see her - the BBBJ is just amazing and she is really sweet.
Bacolod is one of those “Other Areas” which provides a smaller but good alternative to mainstream ISG cities. It lies in the north western end of Negros Island, in the province of Negros Occidental. I spent a week there and this posting endeavours to summarise the city and local scene.

Bacolod is a city spread over flat country and has a population of about half a million. It is trumpeted as “the cleanest and greenest and most liveable cities in the Philippines” but frankly I doubt if you would find a clean beach within 50 kms of the city. There is a very good city overview at http://www.bacolodcity.gov.ph/bacolod_city.htm including a city map and a listing of accommodations (hotels, inns, pensions and resorts) and their rates. Another good guide is the “EZ Map of Negros and Siquijor” costing 100 pesos at the National Book Store and some hotel lobbies. It includes street maps of Bacolod and Dumaguete Cities.
The new Bacolod-Silay airport is about 15kms, or 20 minutes, north of the town and costing about 400 pesos for a taxi ride or 150 in a shuttle van to your hotel. The airport is well served with a 55 minute link from Manila and a 30 minute link from Cebu-Mactan airport. Shipping links exist to Manila (20 hours) and an hour from Iloilo on the island of Panay. A 5-6 hour air-con Ceres coach travels 4 times daily between Bacolod and Dumaguete, costing about 250 pesos from memory. The journey is through interesting sugar cane, rice growing and coffee growing (at higher altitudes) but the extensive road concreting forcing single lane travel makes the trip slow and tiring.
I based myself and spent most of my time in the “Goldenfields Entertainment Complex”. This is about 2.5 kms south of the city off to the left of Areneta Street. This is the area to be and includes the Pagcor Casino, hotels, indoor and outdoor restaurants, bars, KTVs, nightclubs, bowling lanes, and a great swimming complex. MO2 Days Inn Hotel (photo 1) offered good basic services for 800 pesos a night, including wifi in the room (if you pick the right room –otherwise in the lobby and restaurant). Adjacent Kundutel Hotel (photo 2), same owners, was more upmarket, with a superior room for 1000 pesos. The Bacolod casino itself (photo 3) offers good accommodation.
The go-go bars were pretty mediocre and the prices somewhat outrageous. Some may like it but I found a 6 month pregnant pole-dancer somewhat deflating. Bar-fines were over 3000 and ladies drinks 250 plus. For a provincial town this exceeded Manila and Angeles rates! Monday to Thursday it was somewhat thin pickings but the area became alive for the weekend. Wild Cat, entrance 2 drinks per person, had a reasonable floor show the most enjoyable for me was a pretty polished non-stop 10pm-2am variety acts at Black Velvet (photo 4); but not really a pick-up bar. I went back there 3 times with my partner.
Filipinos are very generally-speaking very talented musically (spoilt by some over-confident videoke “performers” primed by Red Horse!). Chicken Alley restaurant (photo 5) had great bands and vocalists and gave good vibes.
The Goldenfields complex has plenty of open area bars and restaurants. You can hardly be left alone without some tout offering young ladies. At the entrance to Goldenfields from about 6pm onwards, a private van or two is stationed and supplies young women, often students. Going rate for foreigners seemed to be 1500 for short time (up to 3 hours) but this could be negotiated down to about 700 pesos. There seemed to be a well established system in place. Behind Days Inn was a couple of so-called “lodges” with roll-in garages at 150 pesos for three hours (photo 6). I never took up this opportunity! I was more into fraternising with chat-mates and my Bacolod adventure is summarised in the “Chat Rooms and Pen Pals” thread.

Sometimes but not always. Could be taxi drivers or acquaintances or friends of friends. I first talk general subject with them to see if they are people I can get along with to start with and only if they pass the test I may (or not) start to talk to them about what I am looking for. Like this you build up a network over the years. Of course I have been living here for so long too, it may be more difficult for the casual tourist, but still possible I guess.
Think about this. If you go in a mall and wish to talk to a pretty girl, it may be very easy, but it is also very visible, because as a foreigner you very much stand out among others. The girl may be very shy because of that as well. Ask a local to speak to her instead while you stay at a distance, and it gets much easier.
It also is something cultural to the Philippines. For example, if you organize a party, you need to get the locals you invite to confirm whether they will come or not by sending another local to ask them, because to you they will not dare say no. What will happen is that they will say yes to you and then just not come. To a local go-between, they will dare say no.
I don't want to spend my time courting the girls - unless of course I really like her. I want to know if she is interested to have sex with me for money yes or no. If the girl is not in the profession, it's a tricky things to ask from the get go. However, it is relatively easy for a local to do it for you. When they know me well and know my taste, they can just look around for me on their own.
Sometimes they can even find arrangements with the girl's boyfriend! You will be surprised on how many would agree because they get part of the share! And that's another aspect. The most beautiful girls in the Philippines get engaged with their classmate, neighbor or friends at a very young age and never "released" afterwards. Their boyfriend will not let them go, and most of the time they are being taken care of anyway so no need to search something else. That is the reason why the quality of girls in professional venues are so low. Just compare the amount of beautiful girls you see in the street and those you see in professional venues. To get something better you need to go off the beaten track, and this is were your go-between, if you get a good one, is invaluable.
So anyway, just to say that while mongering in the Philippines, it is as important to make friends with the men too, not only the girls. They will know the local geography very well, where to go, who to ask and who not to ask, and sometimes if they are good they will indeed bring stunners out of nowhere.

I haven't posted for awhile, but 2 foot of snow and a bottle of wine makes me miss the life.
Bocolod., stayed at the Caribbean Water Park last year.
Very nice, the units are condo style. Bedroom/wc upstairs, livingroom/kichenette downstairs.
Front porch is in line with the other units., all fronting the pool-park on the lawn.
Not cheap, but a great place to entertain the GF's family, if you have to handle the horde.
Friendly staff can run errands for sundries., or more.
At the front enterance to Goldenfields is a Italian restro open for yankee breakfast. And they got an expressso machine! And a decent wine list!
All's good at Goldenfields, you can find anything you need, plus gambling.they got slots, card tables, no craps tho.
The p4p I saw was very low-ball, lotta girls hanging in their bars to the left of the entrance, very few mongers.
Forget the touts, 500p lt works.
Better to byob there tho., someone you like. 'Cause if you've been in the sticks Negros with your honey, Goldenfields a place to unwind.

It's been over a year, but someone was asking about nice and convenient beaches. I found Borocay over commercialized and the next best thing would be the much smaller (1500 meters?), quieter, white sand beach called Alona or Ahlona on Panglao island.
THere are a few bars, but I would bring a gal with you or at least have some dates set up with some online gals.
You can fly into the Bohol capital, Tagbilaran. I didn't. I took Ocean jet ferry from pier 1 in Cebu. It's a scenic ride and gets you to Tagbilaran in 90 minutes. From there the taxi would be 20 to 30 min to the beach.

I just spent a week in boracay. Been back in the US for 2 weeks now. I stayed at willy beach resort. I had the suite with breakfast for two every morning and a set dinner for one night. Cost me around $20, 000 pesos. Big room. I had my number one in tow so I went big instead of cheap. Right on the beach in zone 3. Willys rock is right out front and is one of the draws of the island. I enjoyed the stay there. Depending on what you want is what zone you want to stay in. Quieter zone is zone 3. Very quiet and easy to sit on the beach at night and just relax. Zone 2 is more noisy and has more nightclubs and restaurants. I ate most of the meals in that area. Good music and and good nightlife. Not a lot of nightlife but respectable. I ate at the steakhouse, (the actual name of the steakhouse) if you want something instead of chicken rice and so one. A german guy owns it and it is a good spot for an actual good steak. You can text or call ahead and get a table on the porch outside reserved, look it up when you get there if you like. I didn't go to zone 1 but for some shopping so I can't comment on it. At willys when you reserve a room they pick you up at the airport and take you escorted all the way to the resort. If you book there tell them that your family has stayed there before. I said it because my girl had stayed there before with her family. They gave me an instant 20% discount off the top no questions asked! So good luck and have fun. My 2 pesos worth of information anyway.

i check in at the malberry into a deluxe suite. as soon as i arrived at my room, the first thing that stood out was the construction curtain separating the rest of the hallway from where my room door ended. “under construction?”, i asked the bellhop. “yes sir, from 8am til 5pm”. you have got to be shitting me!
room 209 was not impressive. i immediately noticed the column of ants marching up and down three of the four walls. the towels in the bathroom were almost thread-bare, and the noise from the street was fairly loud. i’ve stayed in better rooms for a lot less. i knew i would be moving out to the marco in cugman the next day!

As there may be "well off" tourists on this board also, I will just clarify that Johnred talk about El Nido Town and not about the El Nido Resorts (Lagen and Miniloc).
In the resorts you have to BYOB, as they will stop local girls from entering the resort (own experience from inviting a couple of pinay tourists we met on an outing in one of the lagoons to the resort one evening).

BYO may not be essential but the choice of gils in El Nido is pretty limited and not so high quality when I want there at least. I think if you have a girl you actually like being with el Nido is a great place to take her

There really isn't much info on La Union Province on ISG. I happened to be near San Fernando City, in La Union province, for a few of days on business, so I dropped in on an old friend of mine who is semi-retired and lives in the area. Just to the North of San Fernando is what used to be Wallace Air Force Base. The Americans moved out in 1991, now it's the Philippine military that run an air base there. -night café: friday saturday night on the divisoria. great atmosphere, eat with the locals;

-piano bar (also known as d’sainte): san agustine st. upper market, piano and soloist from 9pm. nice place to take that special lady. the eel angulas is well recommended.

bada bing many girls, comfortable seats, 120p entrance with one drink. good dancers. left alone unpestered.
fantastic: a rather cramped but popular club with uncomfortable plastic cane aluminium seats. 112p entrance first beer including vat. nice set of girls but in this club more than any other the girls were prancing to themselves in the wrap around mirrors and disappearing up the spiral staircase well before their number had finished. that pisses me off.
exotic club: a very small non-descript club with young talent (see pics 8 and 9 –one of the few clubs where photos were allowed) it is above a boys only club. why is it that some of the smallest, roughest, clubs have the prettiest and newest young girls? watch the prices here. like new love oro and gion there are lots of extras built into the pricing for a ladies drink.
new love oro: after an uninviting entrance way you enter a large lounge with comfortable seats and a good stage. entrance 115p including your first smb. i have previously rated this club highly; and still good. a large selection of girls, and their dance routines are well choreographed by a lady-boy trainer. the club had few customers when i was there but i was told that the vip rooms were full. watch the pricing of the ladies drinks. it is now a club that builds in a mamasan drink charge; 250p for the ladies drink, 250p for the mamasan charge, 500p all up.
gion: upstairs above a japanese restaurant. the first thing that hit me, on two occasions, was the stench of male [CodeWord109] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord109) climbing the stairs. inside it is pleasant and comfortable surroundings, and more than 20 girls. but there were long pauses between dances. the dancers do a lot of mirror preening and they leave the stage early, which as i have said before pisses me off. the thing that kills this place is their charges. 175p for first drink (100p entrance and 75p for beer), then 675p for a ladies drink (broken down as 275p for the ladies drink, 150p for the ladies charge, and, listen, 250p for the floor manager’s drink!!). gez, what’s this?! buy a ladies drink then you need to buy ladies time! then also buy drinks for the mamasan!? come on! i asked are these your normal prices, because i will post them on the internet, and the answer was “yes”. and what does the girl get out of these outrageous prices; just 100p in her pocket. the last time i go there.
thrives club and restaurant: upstairs, just 100p entrance including a beer. comfortable chairs, 16 girls when i was there, some nudity.
mics and mugs. upstairs. entrance fee variable so watch it. mine was 50p for entrance, plus drink cost plus 10%; mine 130p all up. some nice dancers, especially camille. an overbearing lady-boy mamasan had difficulty explaining his/her prices which were regarded as “bullshit” by one of his/her dancers. it was 550p for a ladies drink broken down as 250p for the drink itself and 350p for the lady and mamasan charge. what are things coming to? just watch it here. but first night i was there i did not have this problem, mind you i didn’t buy a ladies drink. to test the waters with one near naked dancer i put 100p in the neck of a bottle, the mamasan put this on stage and after many hilarious attempts the dancer successfully removed it with her pussy. not seen at any other cdo club!
coras 2 and coras 3 (but no coras 1) standard entrance price 130p including three beers, two of which i gave away to appreciative filipinos resulting in continuous high fives for the next hour. plastic stackable chairs. in coras 3 there was a sensuous shower show which by the third number in the bracket she was naked and masturbating solidly.
spooks: this club (pic 10) was slaughtered by dragon slayer in his forum, where he had a beer removed after he left his table for more than 5 minutes. he recommended to isg members never to go there. to me it was the most relaxing and best club in town, but i guess it depends on what you are after. there was no entrance charge and prices were standard, 60p for a beer, 90p for a house wine. very reasonable, and there was no pressuring mamasans. you can choose your company from the dancers and “girl friendly officers” (gfos) and buy a ladies drink at listed prices (from 150p for iced tea to 300p for cocktails). for the 250p drink the girl would get 100p but i successfully negotiated for the girl to get 150p and the management just 100p. i have had success trying this in other clubs. there is a good stage show, enhanced on friday and saturday with candle and shower shows. every now and again the full girl complement is paraded filling the stage and sometimes the row in front (30 plus girls). there is no bar fine in this club and any negotiation is a personal matter between the girl and you. the british owner runs a good club here. when i was there he revved the girls up about excessive dancing to the mirror and leaving the stage early, but in the owner’s absence i notice they fall back to some of their old ways. i should also mention that from 5-7pm on a friday night a buffet dinner is supplied for 200p. there is a good range of food including roasted potatoes, shrimps, and salad. it is a good congregating place for the many expats living in the city (pic 11).
there are a couple of places on the other side of the cagayan river recommended by taxi drivers. pyramid is on the iligan highway and just over the maharlika bridge. i have been there twice. it has a large lounge and stage but most of the time the stage floor is empty -like the number of customers attending. troy is downtown carmen and just over the ysalina bridge. this is literally a rat infested dump. i arrived at 9.30pm, no other customers, and the first and last thing i saw was a big rat scurrying across the floor. i think i know why these taxi drivers recommend these places; it puts more pesos on their meters!
dance venues
there is great musical talent in the phils and cdo is no exception. i went to four venues: lexis bar and grill, on tiano brothers street, pulse and mojo bar, both opposite dynasty hotel on capistrano street, and the relatively new silver rain in divisoria (corner of abejuela and rizal streets). silver rain, a korean owned nightclub on the third floors, was the new discovery and the most enjoyable for me; a very popular “in” place with the younger set
i have been to lexis (tiano bros st near macahambus st) many times and it is a good venue for meeting people. there are two 7 piece bands, 3 vocalists rotating through the evening. lots of girls, and lady-boys, dance in groups on the floor. pick the right group, even if you are on your own, and you would quickly get accepted for giving it a go. one thing can lead to another if you play your cards right.
pulse (opposite dynasty hotel) is a disco live band combination; a 10-piece band when i was there. as with other venues it doesn’t seem to warm up to well after 10.30pm. i also went to adjacent mojos, restaurant and bar, and probably the most down-market dance venue but lots of talent. i was there coinciding with one of the extensive evening power blackouts in the nightclub district and many of the dancing girls rolled over to mojos. if i wasn’t accompanied it would have been a great place to make initial contact and pick up phone numbers.
meeting and pick-up spots
there are the usual malls (limkitkai, sm, gaisano, ororama) and plazas. chatting with the sales-ladies in the local malls not exposed to heavy foreigner traffic (eg ororama and gaisano city) can be rewarding. these girls are often on short-term contracts and then return to their provincial homes. two nice parks with lots of activity and mixing and mingling are gaston park, near the cathedral (pic 12), and vincente de lara park (formerly macarthur park). very obvious too, in the evening hours, are the young “chicks” and their pushers, on the streets around the night clubs (map 1). these girls (pic 13) are generally young, often too young, and very high risk

I have just had a few weeks in Cagayan de Oro (CDO), my fourth visit in 3 years. I thought I would put together a summary for this ISG board; a mixture of facts and opinions.
Getting there
There are good daily air-links from Manila and Cebu to this so-called “City of Golden Friendship”. There is a 4 days-a-week Cebu Pacific early evening flight from Davao and this avoids a rather tedious 6-7 hour plus bus journey. Currently the CDO airport, or Lumbia airport, is just 10 kms from the city. In the name of progress, and I guess safety, this airport will be replaced, supposedly 2011, by the Laguindingan International Airport 46 kms from CDO and half way towards Iligan. The taxi-drivers try and rip you off for 250p but my last metered fare from downtown CDO to the airport was just 105p. The taxi fare for the new airport could be more than the cost of the air ticket!
There is an overnight slow boat trip from Cebu. Recently Paras Jet has introduced a fast boat service from Jagna in Bohol departing at 1pm to Benoni in Camiguin Island and departing there at 4pm arriving CDO at 6.15pm; cost 800p a standard seat. I broke my trip with a few days in Camiguin Island with an invited chat-mate; very nice. The return trip CDO to Bohol leaves at 8am. There are also direct passenger boat services between CDO and Dumaguete and some other centres, but not daily.
Bus services from all over Mindanao will get you to Cagayan. There is the yellow Batchelor bus service and the red Rural Transit is the other line. I was not too impressed the last time I travelled on the Batchelor “non-stop Executive air con” from CDO to Davao. First we had a ½ hour lunch stop then about 25 minutes out of Davao the driver and 7 “executive” passengers alighted to sprinkle their urea supplement in a roadside banana plantation.
CDO overview
The city has a population of nearing 600,000. It is on the northern central coast of Mindanao and the capital of the Province of Misamis Oriental. Temperatures are pretty constant through the year, averaging 28°C. The wet season is usually June to November, the wettest month July; the drier season is December to May but it can rain all months. CDO misses the typhoons and hurricanes that regularly belt Luzon and other north regions.
The Mindanao Ez Map has a street map of CDO but you may need a magnifying glass to read the details! A better map, with most of the nightclubs and hotels marked on it, is the “City Map of Cagayan de Oro”, see www.cdoguide.com for map outlets and other city details. I have enclosed a map of the downtown area (Map 1).
There are hundreds of foreigners living in this city, some in retirement, many with jobs. Some of the congregating haunts for expats are Spooks nightclub for the 200p Friday night buffet (see nighclubs), the Entertainment Centre on opposite Philtown hotel on, the Generations Bar at Limkitkai, between Discovery Hotel and Coffee Works (on a Friday and a Saturday evening), and the SM Mall Supermarket, which seems to have the best fresh food in town. There is an active expat calendar and forum, and viewable in the Expats-in-Cagayan-de-Oro discussion group at Yahoo.
Safety
Some countries put out travel “advisories” warning of the dangers of Mindanao travel. CDO, like Davao, is a pretty safe city. There are many parts of the world, including many cities in the US, Europe, and Australia where I would have greater safety concerns. I can safely walk around Divisoria (the weekend night market area), Velez and Limkitkai at night. But I would be hesitant to wander some of the shadier night club streets and districts like Cogon, Carmen, the Pier (port), and Agora too late at night. Taxis are cheap, readily available, and generally better quality than some of the crap “non aircon” taxis in Davao. And I have no qualms taking a tricad motorbike, or jeepney, for 7 or 10 pesos).
Utilities
All the utilities are here: mobile, broadband, plenty of wi-fi networks, cable tv (with some sports coverage limitations). The biggest problem at the moment, in CDO and across the Mindinao region, is electricity distribution, with extensive daily “brown-outs”, often shutting businesses and hotels without generators down for stretches of 5 hours at a time. It’s a chronic situation but with a little strategic planning and political will it was totally avoidable. Looks like the wet season and maybe auxiliary oil burning generators are the only hopes of a solution. Frankly I do not know how some businesses can survive the escalating shutdowns. In most western countries the electrical generator and power distributor would be in breach of delivery contracts and would be facing major compensation claims. But this is the Philippines.
Attractions
There are no real super attractions that I could find; there is river rafting, some local waterfalls, some golf courses, and a few beach resorts are often promoted. It is a good jump-off point to get to lovely Camiguin Island. I took a look at General “MacArthur’s Marker” at the port, (pic 2) and I hoped to learn a bit about local WW2 history but the signage there gave much more information about how great “Tinex” the current CDO mayor was in getting this small monument established and protected. This is a country full of self glorification. It will get worse as we head to the May elections.
Hotels and Pensions
There is full range of accommodation in CDO; it is a popular conference location. We have the high end (4 star) accommodation with Hotel Koresco (near the airport and golf courses, Korean owned, 4000-28,000p a night), and Pryce Plaza Hotel (on Carmen Hill, from 4,300p a night but discount sites like Agoda offer better deals. Fantastic views and a nice restaurant to share with your Filipina on a special evening (pic 3). I had a lovely dinner there accompanied by a small strings orchestra!).
I have tried at least 10 hotels in my visits to CDO. Currently I am tripping nearly 4 months through the Philippines, am not on business expenses, so the high end was out of my budget (except for that occasional very special night). I prefer to save a little on accommodation and invest more in my partner. And I think for most Filipina any hotel lodge or pension is a treat compared to the homes and boarding houses they live in. It doesn’t have to be a Marco Polo to impress! I don’t turn my nose up at pensions. By definition they are small hotels, and common through Europe. Generally they can be friendlier, more personal, than large tourist hotels. But like hotels, some pensions can be doss-houses.
With accommodation you generally pay for what you get. We are dealing with personal preferences. Generally a bed is a bed. A bed with a footboard has some good advantages! A good hot shower that works is one of my priorities; along with a bathroom that is a little more up-market than a bucket and scoop. It doesn’t take many years before a shower nozzle corrodes up, taps lose their threads, and tired hotel staff forget to replace missing plugs. So I preferentially go for the newer, or newly, renovated over the tired and tatty. I have stayed at a wide range of CDO hotels and pensions, newly renovated and old and tatty!
On past visits I have stayed near the Limketkai shopping mall. Malberry Suites is very good; however with major extensions currently underway it is somewhat noisy. The adjacent Discovery Hotel is half the price, much older, but quite functional. I like to move my hotels fairly frequently and I don’t mind mixing it up. This time I focused on downtown hotels and pensions. There are lots of good choices within easy walking distance of the clubs, restaurants, and the Divisoria weekend market (pics 4 and 5). Here are some downtown recommendations, alphabetical and no order of priority, with prices mainly reflecting the standard matrimonial/double bed option, and all with cable tv and air/con:
-Demiron Hotel: Tiano Bro and Kalambaguan Streets. Adjacent to Lexis grill, bar and disco. 750p Wifi 50p a day, in restaurant and reception and some nearby rooms. A little bit tired, but clean;
-Dynasty Court: Crn Tiano Bros and Hayes Streets. From 1600p. Free wifi network on all floors but room positioning is important;
-Executive Pension: Velez and Marbini Sts. Well located. 625p with free wifi on all floors;
-Grand City Hotel: Velez near Abejuela (weekend market avenue). Newly renovated. 1,080p with wifi access using 4 hour card for 100p;
Hotel Ramon: Burgos and Tirso Neri Sts. Overlooking Cagayan River. Basic and aged, but friendly staff (700p);
-Nature’s Pensionne-Velez: Macahambus-Velez Streets. New and with extensions underway. Wifi 100p for 4 hours (880p);
-Park View Hotel: Divisoria near Capistrano St. Older, 575p, basic;
-Philtown Hotel: Velez and Macahumbus Sts. Good value for money (900p);
-Victoria Suites: Neri St Divisoria. Opened Jan 2010. Somewhat cramped rooms. No back-up generator, badly hit by brown-outs (850p);
-VIP Hotel: Velez St, corner with Pacana Streets and 50 metres from Spooks nightclub. 1950p upwards, with free wifi on all floors. Not quite the value for money as others.
Maxandria and Wilthire Hotels are nearby on Borja and Aguinaldo Sts. There are also some short term, 250p for 12 hours “hotels” and doss houses (eg Hotel Kinross) around as well, but untested by me. My picks for value for money stays in downtown CDO are Executive Pension and the relatively new Nature’s Pensionne-Velez
There are at least a couple of relatively handy beach resorts. I have stayed at Coconut Bay Resort a few times now (pics 6 and 7). This is a nice moderately priced relaxing place to take your partner (and kids). It is only a 100p taxi ride out of CDO heading towards Del Monte. It has a nice swimming pool, and setting. It is very popular for weddings, birthdays and conferences. Bungalow rooms are from 900p upwards, pretty basic but major upgraded extensions are underway. I would not recommend swimming in the sea. If you excuse the pun, you would probably be only going through the motions. Another local beach resort I haven’t yet tried is Cha-Li Beach Resort. It is 15 minutes out of CDO. Check the web-site; rooms from about 1800p upwards. I’ll try that one next time.
Better still, if you had the time, is to head off to Camiguin Island for a few days if you wanted a nice resort.

Let me join mine with the other accolades for Kongking's comprehensive reports on CDO. I get there maybe once a month, but I've never heard of half of the places that he covers. Of course, I'm there for business, so I really don't have time to check out all the restaurants and hotels.
I notice that KK included Tegola on his list. I've eaten there a few times, and the last couple of times was disappointed in the quality, which I thought was at best mediocre, though the first couple of times I ate there I thought the food was quite good. I'll need to return given the review.
I've never stayed at the Pryce Hotel, though I've been there. To me, the location is simply too inconvenient to make it a worthwhile alternative, though with its white marble splendor it's quite an attractive place. I would also advise giving the VIP a miss; for the difference of a couple of hundred pesos between that hotel and the Mallberry, I'd opt for the latter since it's clean, attractive and has nicer rooms. Likewise with the Dynasty, which I found fairly shabby when I stayed there prior to the construction of the Mallberry. Admittedly, I've not been back there since the Mallberry's construction, so it might have improved.
Just another note, that one new wing of the Mallberry has opened and the other will open soon, so the construction noise has diminished substantially.
Again, KK thanks for the comprehensive overview of the city. I appreciate your willingness to travel the length and breadth of Divisoria. Every time I've thought about doing this, I get about ten meters into the journey and conclude that it's just too crowded and noisy for an old guy like me, so I turn back. It is however, an unusually attractive street for a city in the Philippines.

Don't forget the Marco Hotel in Cugman, a short taxi ride from Gaisano Mall. Can't remember how much I paid exactly now, about 1500 per night I seem to remember. OK it is not in the thick of the action, but for that money I got a free mediocre breakfast, a huge clean well tended pool, superb well equipped gym and a massive room with two king size beds. The resort is laid out with small cottages as well as your typical hotel style rooms. I chose a cottage for my last stay and the geat thing about this hotel is that it completely avoids any walk of shame. You bring your girl (s) back in the taxi, drive through the manned security gates and park up right outside your cottage. No need to even go into reception if you take your key with you. The only downside is that there is no wifi in the rooms but they do have a business centre with free use of the internet, so it saves lugging around a lap top if you are staying there. I have yet to find a similarly priced comparable hotel with facilities of this standard anywhere in the Philippines

Can't help you Mattrick regarding secure storage. I don't use them. Too risky in my opinion. This is highlighted in recent postings by GregLondon and Sxxxx in the Cebu thread (13th March). I don't carry large loads of cash. I use ATMs fairly frequently, and hide surplus in internal luggage pockets. Where I can I keep my tv on when I am out of my hotel room to deter entry. Yours is not the only key to your room and you just don't know how desperate or tempted some staff could be to rummage or plunder. This is not just a Philippines thing.

Well I arrived today and ended up in the Dynasty Court. There is a 50% discount on the deluxe rooms making them 1250P +200P per head if you choose to have a buffet breakfast. Wifi in my room is fine. It's bang in the middle of the action near the Friday/Saturday night market.
I had a couple of hot DIA contacts when i came here. One girl said she was going to be an enthusiastic sex slave for me, she hails form illigan about 30 mins away. She hadnt texted me all day by the time i was at the airport so I send her a text asking if she had cold feet to let me know. I have a reasonably up to date sync of my contact list on my laptop which is one relief. I also have a cheap backup phone. I seem to be massively careless on this trip. Pretty soon im not going to have anything left to lose or get stolen. Or is that tempting fate.

I don't know why, but I'm always somewhat surprised to hear that Western guys can be as totally irresponsible and immoral as the pinoys who father children and then accept no responsibility whatsoever for their financial support. The sad thing is that there's nothing she can do to pursue this legally. He's totally secure in his refusal to acknowledge the baby.
I've stayed at the Dynasty a few times prior to the construction of the Mallberry. I don't remember it as anything much, but perhaps its been renovated since I was there. The price is certainly attractive enough.

Hi Barba, yes I mean all of those. I was surprised at the number of "chicks" on offer. Some were mutton dressed up as lamb, but most were young. Going rate was variable but 400p short time was accepted, 1000p all night. The girls minders take abt 100p commission, but you can (try and) cut out the middle man. My short time girl said she was 19 but later said she was 17. To protect myself against any under-age set-up I do not tell the minders what hotel I am at, and if I do it is another hotel I say. I check to ensure I do not have third party company at any stage. And I try and monitor the girl's use of her mobile. "Do not take your phone into the cr". Condoms and washing before and after. Street girls do not get the STD checks that a nightclub girl receives.

i do not have the time or budget to visit all 7000 cities/villages of the philippines. however, i did visit manila, boracay and cebu. i did have a very easy mongering experience with p4p in boracay so i will focus this report on boracay since there is not recent or detailed information on boracay but plenty of information on the bars and etc in cebu and manila.
these are the rules that i observed while spending three nights in boracay. 1). the action starts around 9pm after the families go to their hotels and many buffet restaurants shut down or the real night entertainment places start jammin' with live bands. 2). the best place to stay and monger is station two – if you want to reduce time from pick-up to the main event. 3). the best place to monger is summer place 4). if you are mongering anywhere between station one to station three after 3am the only thing available will be horrible lady boys so get your girls or girls lined up before 2am to avoid being harassed and shaking the lady boys off of you. i felt like i was playing full contact football trying to tell the ladyboys to f. o. lmtfa. 5). the going rate "wish rate" is 3000 pesos which can be easily reduced to $1500. 00 and possibly $1000 pesos if she is not aggressive and no one is buying her drinks. 6). at summer place, the drinking is not happening so when the ladies get to the room they are freakin' hungry and thirsty and want to raid your minibar especially the girls drinking nothing but cobra energy drinks. 7). second pops are tough to negotiate 8). phone numbers and pictures are easily to get. this is not the famous del ray at costa rica but summer place is packed with freelancers and if you can't find one it is only because the ladyboys have taken over the place or too many couples are in the place. 8). if a girl runs up to you or ask to talk to you near the water then more than likely she is ladyboy. – the girls are not aggressive as the ladyboys just keep that in mind if you are approach first with a girl trying to grab your package. bluf: you will more than likely need to step to the girl after you make eye contact and get a smile; she may come to you but step to her immediately. there were some mongers there scooping up three to five girls at a time or at least drinks. so, it is easily to lure a girl away from guy that has more than his fair share just wave her to come over or whisper in her ear that you want to talk to her in private. 9). final rule: bring the real lube! these girls are using vaseline and baby oil which is not the proper thing to use and may even increase opportunity of breakage of the raincoat or degrade the coating of the raincoat.
bonus #10: i'm not a [CodeWord118] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord118) person or a beach fan or bum so i was unprepared when i got there and was very much out of place, so i would like to share this with you so you don't make the same mistake that i did. this is a beach and everything is on the beach so it is okay to be super casual and wear flip-flops 24-7. pack light and be laid back. also you will have to catch a small boat to the actual beach so be prepared for three transfers from the airport and pack light so you are not tired by the time you walk on all the sand with your luggage. swimming trunks and an athletic top will get you any girl remember it's the 1500 pesos which is important not the cologne, jeans, slacks, shoes. just bring flip-flops, your equipments and supplies and relax. everything you need is on the beach. i did check out cocomangoes but it must operate late. at 930pm there was only private parties/groups there no freelance girls.
the performance with the girls i selected could have been better but they made sure i was able to explode my load one way or another. bbbj was not an option with all four girls. i would repeat and jennifer did a good job and finding me other girls but wanted a $300 peso tip. i told her $200 peso only because she knew i was "too big" for babe so i needed for her to stfu and lie for me.

I was there last week. Before that I was there 5 or 6 years ago.
Wow, the prices remained the same, and the girlie scene I think is better. Couple of more bars, and the quality of the girls IMHO went up. The quality of girls is similar to EDSA (went there 2 days ago). The beers are 50 or 60 pesos for most bars. The ladies drinks are 200 or 250 pesos. The girls cost 1000 P bar fine; plus 1000P tip long time.
The bars are along an alleyway in the middle of Sabang parallel to the beach (you can't miss it).
The bars starting from the east end:
1) Sunset Disco: Currently closed. For sale sign on the door. It was kind of dumpy 5 years ago. It actually might be a good investment for the right type of person. They are currently building a pier/entertainment area over the water near there; after it is done, there might be more foot traffic.
2) Sabang Disco: A girlie bar.
3) Philippine Disco bar: Another girlie bar. Across Sabang Disco.
4) Venus Disco: New from 5 years ago. A girlie gar. My favorite for quality. Several nice ones (but couple might be 17). The girls in Sabang has no IDs. But I mumbled the girl looks 17, and the girl next to me said "it's OK". Haven't heard/read of any trouble/scams in Sabang.
5) Venue Disco: New from 5 years ago. Below Venus. This is an actual disco. Large disco with a loft. Not sure of the scene. Went there early. Several local girls dancing with themselves. Came back later; 50 pesos entrance fee. Somewhat empty. Not sure if the girls are freelancers or if they work for the bar.
6) Broadway Disco: Girlie bar in the back of a bar/music/entertainment area.
7) Hammerhead Broadway Disco: New from 5 years ago. Girlie bar above Broadway. My favorite bar in terms of layout. Stage is on the back wall, instead of the middle. You have comfortable leather couches where you can take off your sandals and put your feet on the coffee table. A/C is the best; cold; they don't have a curtain in the front door which lets in all the warm humid air.
8) Pink Panther Disco: Girlie bar. Dumpiest places charges the most for the San Miguel Light (70 pesos). There is a KTV upstairs.
I believe these are all the bars in Sabang. Did I miss any?
How to Get There:
1) Cheapest way-Take public bus from Manila to Bantagas Pier. Then take boat to Sabang.
2) Take Si-Kat. Bus plus boat combo from Southern Cross hotel. I believe Swagman hotel also has a service. Problem is that leave early from Manila.
3) What I did: From Angeles, take a private sedan taxi (cost is between 4400. 4750 pesos) to Batangas. Then take boat (cost is 230? Plus 2 junk fees. Terminal and environmental fees). If you leave Angeles at 10 AM, you can get there at 2 something for the 2:45 PM FSL boat. You can also leave anytime, and pay extra for your own private boat.
How to Leave:
1) Si-Kat or Swagman Fly the Bus. I took Swagman. Next time I will pay the extra 50 pesos for the Si-Kat (700 instead of 650). Bus from Batangas was large modified jeepney with A/C. It was uncomfortable and noisy.
2) Take boat (230 plus 1 fee). At Bantagas, you can either take the public bus, or arrange a private taxi to Manila. The taxi tout at the pier offered 2500 pesos (first offer). My PG hotel offered 3500 pesos. You can also call you Angeles hotel to pick you up (cost should be the same as the drop off charge).
Side Note: Wasn't impressed by the scuba diving Puerto Galera; it's OK. But it's good because it's close to shore. I thought Phuket was better. In PG, it's cool to rent your own private boat and to go island hopping and snorkeling. Don't pay those ridiculous prices posted. They're claiming a boatman association (new from before). They are trying to be like those Phuket transport ripoff pricks and gouge the tourist. I paid 1000 pesos for 4 hours from Small Laguna to White Beach and back.

You might have misnamed one of the discos there, unless Village Disco no longer exists. I was just in Sabang with my gf in January. The talent was of a much more consistently high quality than it was four years ago, which was the last time I was there. You missed out on Verde Island, which might be the best wall diving in the entire Philippines except for the Sulu Sea liveaboard diving and Apo Reef to the west of Mindoro. In each of my three previous visits, I couldn't convince the dive shop to take me out to Verde because not enough additional divers wanted to pay the extra cost. It was always a minimum of six before they'd take you. This time, I could only get four, but we told them we'd pay a surcharge and they ended up taking us. The vis was only about 40-50 feet due to recent storms, but supposedly it can get up to 100 feet plus. On a clear day like that, it would be pretty spectacular. As it was, it was pretty damn good.
I was there last week. Before that I was there 5 or 6 years ago.

From what i have read there is little laguna and big laguna? realistically how far apart are they and is there any advantage to staying one place or the other? Also from what i have read Sabang is more of a port than a beach so it is not the best beach to stay on.
To give you some more idea i am mostly searching for a nicer hotel with a huge bed and cold a/c like a 4 star type place.

I've stayed at Big Apple Apartments ( $60/night) right in the middle of Sabang and Out of the Blue Villas Studio ( $45/night) on Small La Laguna ( 5-10 minute walk to Sabang.) Both are similar in quality (3. 9 stars), had large bed, nice a/c and had a small kitchen with refrigerator. The BA apt has 2X the space with a separate living room area and couch. I had trouble sleeping at BA Apt unless the a/c was blasting to drown out the noise all night. If you think you can find restful sleep at 3AM in the middle of Sabang think again. OOB villas were nice and quiet all night but the walk was a pain. I would still probably stay at the BA Apt next time. It's just more convenient to be close to all the restaurants, dive shops, and nightlife. I can catch up on sleep at home.
Big LaLaguna ( 10-15min walk to Sabang) is the best beach in the Sabang area but I wouldn't stay there or Small LaLaguna for the beaches. The quiet atmosphere would be the reason. For a nice beach you would have to take a boat to White Beach ( 30mins away).
I took the Si-Kat service to get to Sabang. It leaves the City State Tower Hotel in Ermita at 8AM. You need to get there by 7:30AM and don't need a reservation. Roundtrip cost was $30. This includes a comfortable bus ride ( 2. 5hrs) to Batangas pier and a ferry ride ( 1hr 15min) to Sabang.

After a few days at the Dynasty Court I opted for a change of scene and went to stay at the Kingston Lodge which is about 7kms out of town past SM Mall but before the airport. Its deservedly highly rated on Trip advisor. Its now owned by an Aussie guy who bought out his British partner. Double rooms go for 1000P and suites with kitchenettes for 1500P . There is free wifi though in the al too frequent brownouts electricity is confined to the generator supplied bar/restaurant area. there are a couple of mid sized pools. Most of the rooms are taken by foreign guys with Filipina gfs in tow.
Taxis to centre of town are about 90P. The food is very good and reasonably priced by phis standards. Its a friendly place where most of the guests have a similar agenda/mindset and happy to chat. A big contrast with the city centre hotels which are mostly populated by Phil / Chinese business guys.
I had two girls whilst i was there, both from Tagged. The first was a 23 year old from Iligan with a fantastic slim but with big firm boobs body, quite a cute face but in need of some dental work. She was a very innocent girl, first time on almost everything we did from eating pizza up, but very willing. She really should have gone to Angeles/Manila/Cebu as with her body she could easily be earning 30/50k + a month.
The second was a student caregiver aged 25, a very pretty slim girl but with some stretch marks from a couple of kids. She has a very high sex drive and is a real expert in bed again I was she said (and I believe) her first foreign guy. Her differentiating feature was her sassy and humorous personality, in about 6 months in the phils meeting many many girls I would rank her in the top 1 or 2 in terms of attitude and fun personality.
Both these girls are keen to meet more guys so if you are in the area i'm happy to send you their DIA IDs or pass on your contact details if you wish, just PM me. I'm reluctant to just quote them here as previously some guys mentioned this to the girl in question and she got very upset.

I usually stay at the Portofino in Small Laguna (http://www.portofino.com.ph/index.htm)
It is decent; studios and one or two bedrooms. Maybe 3 stars, which is good for a beach area. I like it because you can put the toilet paper in the toilet instead of the trash bin. It's closer to the nightlife in Sabang than Big Laguna (Only a small distance, but I'm lazy). More Quiet. Nice pool. Beds can be better, but not that bad. Problem is that for the large bed, they put 2 twins together. OK A/C. Has a kitchen. Guest friendly. Beach in Small Laguna is yucky; when I was there, a lot of algae. At high tide, the beach goes away.
But be warned about the laundry service. The maid/staff does it; they ripped me off. I gave them the laundry; they didn't weigh it in front of me. It should have been around 2 or 2. 5 kilos. But it came back as 5 kilos. I complained when I checked out, and the clerk gave it to me as 4 kilos.
Better hotels in that area is the Red Sun. Next to the Portofino; looks expensive. Also, Atlantis looks nice in Sabang; right in the middle of the nitelife. The price was 100 something for the lowest level room. (http://www.Atlantishotel.com/puertogalera/index.php)
The better beach in that area is Big Laguna; it's over the peninsula as you head away from Small Laguna and Sabang. See this site for good info: http://www.Philippines-travel-guide.com/la-laguna-beach-club.html.
Hence in that "Sabang area", you have Sabang (marginal beach, nitelife central), Small Laguna (approx 10 minute walk to Sabang, quiet), and Big Laguna (better beach, quiet, but additional walk-not sure of how much extra time)
The best beach is White Beach. It's about a 30 minute boat ride from Small Laguna. You can also get there by jeepney/trike.
Sabang is not really a port; although they're building something over the water (right where you get off from the boat)
Note: If you miss the boat to Sabang from Batangas, you can take the boat to Muelle port (Puerto Galera town), and take the jeepney for 20 pesos to Sabang (last one is at approx 6 PM; then you can take a trike for between 80 to 100 pesos).

El Galleon Resort at Small La Laguna Beach is very reasonable and has excellent food. There are three or four pricing tiers, ranging from about $55 USD to about $250 USD.
If you're a diver, don't get Apo Reef (west of Mindoro) and Apo Island (east of Negros) mixed up. Two different types of diving, from what I hear. Apo Reef has more pelagics.

Just go to Camiguin island, you can take a fast ferry from the Pier in CdO,
Maybe Bohol is an alternative too, but not that near, Camiguin is only a couple of hours by Supercat.
Yes, it is so near that there is a possibility you will meet friends and/or family there, but what the heck when nobody knows you're going there
Don't go to Balingoan for a ferry. To much of a fuss to go there by bus.
The Tourist information is on Velez when I am not mistaken and I did my booking in the Mall nearby, Gaisano at CM Recto, walking distance (for me) from the tourist office.
Locals do know even better ways I think.

Camiguin is the resort islanmd closest to CDO and of course CDO girls will love to go there. Angel was very keen fopr me to viist her home town iligan about 90mins bus down the road from CDO. She says its cheaper place top stay than CDO. There were a few girls from there keen to contact me, It gets far fewer visitors than CDO.
As a general point many of my best finds have been friends or friends of friends from girls I originally met on the dating sites. Once you make clear that marriage is not on the agenda, the majority of Phil girls are willing to set you up with friends and cousins sometimes as threesomes sometimes as alternative dates. The general perspective seems to be that a western guy without a sexy girl in his bed is a pitiful thing and many girls will text all their friends trying to find suitable girls to join you. At least if you treat them nicely that is.

In Mambajao, be certain to stop in at the Rooftop Hotel and Restaurant. George is a great guy who can help you out.
Mantigue Island is beautiful. There are plenty of waterfalls, the people are friendly. Trust me, women will love you for it.

Gangles, I suggest you try Paras resort. It's not deluxe, but it's comfortable and right on the beach. The people there will arrange scuba or snorkeling trips or a trip out to white island for you.

Try the Rooftop in downtown Mambajao. There are some beautiful rooms, all at very reasonable rates.
The problem is that transportation is centered in Mambajao, and if you stay at the beach (say, Yumbing) you're stuck without any transportation, especially at night.

Yes Camiguin is close to CDO and I have been 3 times each with a different chick from CDO. They love it, once I took a rent a car that I had for 2 week, wow do they love that.
So I have always stayed at Secret Cove, located just past Paras. The owner is a Canadian from Kelowna BC who has been there for 10 years or so with his lovely wife. Good food, great bar with a huge collection of Scotch. The local expats come for breakfast and again for happy hour.
What I have always liked is that Camiguin is so clean and the people are just like the say "where Asia wears a smile".
Get a DIA girl, bar girl, student girl whatever and go.
The problem with Paras Beach Resort (first set of pics) is unless you are deaf the blaring kareoke machine will ruin any hope for peace and quiet regardless of where your room is. It does have the best facilities and grounds for sure.
Secret Cove (pictured below Paras) is much smaller (less than 10 rooms), friendlier and quieter. Unique and full of character. Be discrete here as there are few sex tourists (this aint Boracay or Sabang!) This applies all over sleepy, conservative, Camiguin. An example is when we swam the girl I brought (last picture at white beach) was the only one wearing a bathing suit. The local girls would wear tshirts and shorts or even long pants like it was Malaysia.
Rocky beach, like most of Camiguin. White island is the bomb, but its a 5 minute bacna ride offshore. If you want to lounge on a sand beach outside your room Bohol, not Camiguin, is the better choice and not that much farther from CDO. It has way more development and foreigners, however.

It is NOT a mongering destination at all, and the rainy season is now beginning in the Cordillera so unless you like cold and wet, forgetaboutit. Vigan is the quietest and deadest provincial capital I've seen in all the PI. The North just aint the place for mongering. If you must find action in the North Laoag is likely your best option.
Visayas and Mindanao is the motherload NOT Luzon (except Bicol perhaps, which I don't know well having last visited I the 90s). Puerto Galera really presents an unbeatable combination of the natural beauty and daytime activities coupled with girlie bars for after dark and good tourism infrastructure.
Got the 1.15pm Cebu Pacific flight from Cebu and touched down at an amazing 20 minutes ahead of schedule. Check in went really smooth, no inspection of liquids or gels this time. I stuck with hand carry only as my last trip to CDO involved a 50 minute flight from Cebu and a 50 minute wait for my luggage to arrive on the carousel.
Went out of the terminal to be greeted by 3 or 4 persistent taxi touts whom I ignored completely. I went over to the meter taxi rank to find none of them were willing to use the meter even on the promise of a reasonable tip. All wanted around 450 pesos with some going down to 350 even though I know my metered fare is about 170. One driver even had the audacity to tell me the price was high because he had been waiting all day for a fare at the airport. I felt like telling him to get off his lazy ass and drive round down town and get some honest work on his meter.
Now I can easily afford 450 pesos it is just that I hate being ripped off and cheated. Some people might argue it is not worth the hassle but I have a bit of a stubborn streak. With drivers still following me on foot, I turned round and headed back to the terminal with the intention of finding out if there any jeepneys, or minibuses into town. I stopped a Filipina woman coming out of the terminal and asked her if she knew of any place I could catch a jeepney into town. She replied that she knows foreigners get ripped off by the taxi drivers and she offered to drop me into town on her way home. Turns out her husband had come to pick her up and I gratefully accepted her offer. You should have seen the expression on the taxi driver's faces, worth a million dollars when they saw me heading off with this woman into the car park.
Really nice family, and we had an interesting chat into town, where they dropped me off at a taxi rank. Wouldn't take any money, what a kind hearted gesture I thought. The subsequent taxi ride cost me 70 pesos.
Met up with an old gf and her 20 year old daughter with the promise of a threesome, but for a number of reasons it did not work out and I sent them home after an hour at the hotel. I then contacted another DIA contact I had cultivated over the last few months. Aged 26, girl next door type, no make up in her photo but cute in a natural way. Bohol - Panglao Island
Beautiful Alona Beach - not as crowded and tourist like Boracay - cheap prices, nice people - good place to relax. Good for bring your date in there. But i really had a great time with local girls and in local bars. I also enjoyed the nice relaxing atmosphere and excellent food. The bars listed in the Dumaguete thread are in operation, but they are pretty low life. Some of the girls are quite eye catching, but the customers were low end pinoys blowing their dough. My guide was upper class old Spanish money, so he was very uncomfortable, so we could not stay long.
I met a veery nice young lady while walking along the promenade early afternoon. Next day we went to the island just offshore and had a very pleasant day. So they are there if you are a bit game.

Surfer's right -- it's a dead loss. I like Baguio and spend a lot of time there, but do my mongering before or afterwards at Bauang and Poro Point, which are a couple km from each other down on the coast just south of San Fernando La Union. To my knowledge this is the most northerly place in the Philippines where you're likely to find what you're looking for.
This is generally correct, but "dead loss" is a bit exaggerated. I've been there twice for several days. After dark there are girls waiting along the edges of Burnham Park. Once I waited an hour on the overpass from the park to downtown, and was offered service by a girl who wandered by; she spent the night. She was among the ugliest I've even been with, but not fat or anything, and this is something to note about the Ifugao population. There is a bikini bar or two in the Legarda Road area; I did not investigate take-out. And twice I've hooked up with pairs of nurses/nursing students getting drunk out of their minds in normal bars; no sex but fun; one pair took me to the (then) new Nevada Square club venue.
Any you guys have some info on this hotel?? Location? Cleanliness? Close to action?

is a good source. personally free wifi is must for me. i stayed at Dynasty Court in the centre, which is fine (though maybe you can get something a bit cheaper). I also stayed at Kingston Lodge out of town which is very nice and has wifi, a pool and a very friendly atmosphere. Most of the guys staying there have medium /long terms GFs as its away from the action though I guess its just a 100P ride away so thats not such a big deal
Does anyone have experience on visits to Palawan. What are the affordable resorts, most bang for the buck, or must see sites?

I've also heard that Port Barton is a worthwhile laid back stop but never been myself. If you are travelling in Palawan be aware that there are only ATMs in Puerto Princesa so you need to get cashed up there or accept big FX charges elsewhere.
There are quite a few small scale bars in PP mostly aimed at locals. I'm toold girls are available, but I've always just relied on DIA/Tagged girls in PP.

Distances are true. Sabang is the nightlife - and to all othere areas there just walk.

I got very good impression, all is clean and people have good attitude, also. It was really different to all the other places I did see in Philippines, before. All the places I did see are very quiet.
Stayed only one day in PP. Nice city. Had a room close to the airport. Some places to eat around, and places to have a drink. But I did not see real nightlife.
Than to Sabang for the Underground River. Nice beach with couple of resorts, nothing more. 10-11pm all is dead. Most people come just for daytrip to see the River. No bars and girls. Next stop was a beautiful and quiet island on the way to El Nido. Most people here for diving in Bacuit areal. Many resorts and restaurants there. I found 2 bars/disco in El Nido where you can find some girls. Both places were quiet with just some customers.
As I had a girl travel with me, I did not do more research.

Can anyone give a review of Panglao hotels? I've stayed at ISIS (not very large) and Bohol Beach club, and was quite happy with both places, but that was a few years ago.
I'd also like to know what the going rate is to hire a boat out to one of the outlying islands -- mostly for snorkeling.

A trusted friend was in cebu and he tried to check into a hotel with his steady girlfriend.
The desk clerk said he had to be married other wise they could not be in same room. Was it the desk clerk that took a dislike to him?
I have had some trouble with some hotels making it very difficult. Like a hotel room in manila I check in(amazonia) and I had two different girls come in on short time and not stay over nite.

I m not easily scared and I do spend my time in places others dont go. In Pagadian the situation was very tense. Great scare of bombs and the main hotel is owned by the governor which makes it THE TARGET. I had all radars on and I "smelled" trouble was brewing. Bad vibrations left and right.
I walked around Cotabato city at night, the night market, i found some hideouts (hidden behind a front shop) etc. The Muslims were very friendly, the others less so. Pagadian was distinctly more tense.
The hookers near the market are very scary (so we're not off topic).
Iligan was relaxed. Lots of students, clubs open till late night, cafe, ktv with girls negotiating before you even enter. A high street full of shops, plenty of food. I had a great time there.
Iligan had bad luck with the raid but Pagadian felt like resident evil around the next corner.
To compare Abu Sayyaf with the NPA or even to name them in one sentence is not correct. I have been in the mountains with activity within a few miles, nervous military, helicopters in the air. All assured me that I m perfectly safe, just I should keep a little distance from those guys in uniform. The support for the NPA in the rural areas made it more than likely that I had a meal or drink with sympathizers or members without even knowing it. A.S. would simply assault or kill you.
The problem on the Zamboanga Peninsula and areas of Cotabato and around is aggravated by the fact that private gangs have joined the lucrative hijacking business. So it is difficult to calculate. Endless nights with guys working for the police and military in rural ktvs etc confirmed this. A couple of beers and we were brothers and I got all the input I might need.
So my advice for Pagadian would be to limit the visit to the essential greetings and then off to the next larger destination. Dipolog is 5 hrs over the mountain - scenic trip.
Pagadian has lots of nice women and hardly any white male skin to meet the demand. Problem is, tight public control. :(
I'll going to baguio soon. I know there is not much action in baguio. Any information about bar or karoke where i can bar fine the girl will be appreciate.

The Dapitan City Beach Resort on Sunset, is a great place to spend some time with a new girl. Even better, Dakak Resort, is one of the best resorts on Mindanao and it's about 15km. North of Dapitan.

Last time I visited Panglao island, I was put up at Playa Blanca Beach Resort by a friend who knew the brother and sister owners. Situated on a beautiful piece of property amongst coconut trees, this resort was the first one built on Alona beach.
The accomodations are duplex cottages set back from the beach like idyllic little grass shacks! The huge bed takes up 75% of the room with attached bathroom. No TV, no hot water so only a hardy beach goer/diver would feel at home! No problem for me as I only use the room for the five S's (shit, shower, shave, sleep and last but not least a shag). :D
They had a bar and resto on the beach but it burned down years ago.
An a/c room can be had for 1500 php. Half that price for a fan room.
Hired a banka for a half day trip to Balicasag island for 1500 php. The water was so clear you didn't need tanks as the area is a wildlife preserve so snorkeling is the way to go!

I was in the area a few months ago and thought about going to Zamboanga. In Pagadian I had talked to the bus drivers about schedules etc (it is basically a 24 hrs service). But then I spoke with a security guy on one bus, M-16 with him, lots of extra ammo. Very low key, going to his post. He said it is 95%+ safe but they never know when they hit and they have their informants.
Van drivers might be a better option. Faster, not many stops, not many people getting off before the destination is reached. Ipil had a horrible massacre some years back.
In general, the combination of forest, mountains, and Muslim population majority make a bad combination on Mindanao. In Cotabato city the houses might have replaced the trees and give cover.
Dipolog and the surrounding area is very nice and safe, good sea food at ridiculous prices. Lots of clubs in Dipolog and ladies to attend to your needs if the date does not work out.
Pagadian has some nice hotels, dont go to the governor's hotel. There is a new 'business' hotel nearby in a side street (on your right hand side when you drive down the hill from the bus station. Prices are OK and better than in the other spots.
What better place to get away from the hustle and grime of Cebu City?

Last time I visited Panglao island, I was put up at Playa Blanca Beach Resort by a friend who knew the brother and sister owners. Situated on a beautiful piece of property amongst coconut trees, this resort was the first one built on Alona beach.
The accomodations are duplex cottages set back from the beach like idyllic little grass shacks! The huge bed takes up 75% of the room with attached bathroom. No TV, no hot water so only a hardy beach goer/diver would feel at home! No problem for me as I only use the room for the five S's (shit, shower, shave, sleep and last but not least a shag). :D
They had a bar and resto on the beach but it burned down years ago.
An a/c room can be had for 1500 php. Half that price for a fan room.
Hired a banka for a half day trip to Balicasag island for 1500 php. The water was so clear you didn't need tanks as the area is a wildlife preserve so snorkeling is the way to go!Hey Mantrik,

the bars in bauang (ba-wahng) are mostly attached to the beach resorts and attract mainly westerners. the style is similar to the smaller bars in barrio barretto, as are quality and price. i've found about half a dozen places but there might be others rep001tered around.
the poro point bars line the highway a couple km north of bauang and they have the unmistakable look of an old r&r area (wallace air station was just up the road). clientele these days is mostly filipino and they (and the girls) can get rowdy, but people are friendly and unless you get drunk and obnoxious you're unlikely to have any trouble. maybe a couple dozen bars in total, mostly very small.

I've just returned to Cebu from a couple of months on Palawan. It's not so easy to find "open minded" girls in such areas, but I met 3 nice ones (20, 25, 29) during my time there. You are also going to have to get away from the city, like WAAAYYYYY out.
You can check out places like San Fernando, Barili near Moalboal in Cebu

TV VCR. MANY PLACES DO NOT. I bring a portable laptop computer that can handle WIFI and get a local broadband account.
Your strategy should be, come here, look around, but stay in a cheaper hotel until you get oriented.

In Cebu you could check out the various resorts in Lapu Lapu. If you go out of Cebu into the province of Cebu your selections in places like Bantayan island, Moalboal will be endless, BUT the catch is there is very little there in support such as TV, transportation (some guy with a motorbike & side car) no cable phones don't work etc and the available babe selection is rather limited to none. usually one takes their own someone they met in cebu city aka: BYOB.

A bit over an hour North of the airport in the hotel van (free), Allegre has plush, separate bungalows (2 unites to a building and so far from reception you take a golf cart!). The rooms are 5 start with all the modern amenities. The resort also has the best beach on Cebu Island which is at bottom of a cliff and access strictly for guests only (pic below). I'm sure a few girls could be rounded up in town, but if you want big neon lit clubs you are talking a full hour back to Mandaue.
On Anninuan beach beach, just West of White beach, Tamaraw Beach Hotel has some bunaglows on the beach but unlikely the wifi works there (you must go by reception or in restaurant).

Personally know you cannot get a visa to the US if you have Hep A/B or HIV+. I should know, I used to do the Visa application tests. Absolutely no way around the test. At least none that I know of that is.
I guess you could have been negative when you applied and then positive later when you joined the USA. That is possible. The time between infection and the appearance of the symptoms, (the incubation period), is between two and six weeks and the average incubation period is 28 days. But that is HIGHLY unlikely as it takes well over six weeks to get the Visa application processed.
I guess a bribe is also possible, but that would go down at the US consulate in Manila, and those dudes are not into that...that would be waaaaaayyy too much money for a pinay.

The Medical Examination
All visa applicants, regardless of age, need to complete a medical examination at the St. Luke’s Medical Center Extension Clinic (SLMCEC) before the visa interview. Applicants are advised to have their medical examinations done at least one week before their interview appointment at the U.S. Embassy in Manila.
SLMCEC is located at 1177 J. Bocobo Street, Ermita, Manila. It is best to arrive for your medical examination between 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Applicants are served on a first come first served basis, but the order of release of the medical reports will depend on the complexity of the results of the medical examination.
What this means to me is: there is only one place you can get the medical exam, and bribing them would be close to impossible. I do suppose that with the incubation period you could get away with it (Hep A and HIV+), but your average pinay cannot just go to any witchdoctor and get a signed piece of paper saying she is good to go.
The exam also costs $213 USD, which is a shit load of money for a pinay. That being said, Philippines is Philippines and I guess anything is possible.
As an aside, in some other countries (Thailand being one), the medical exam is done at the US Embassy Clinic, or at least it used to be. No room for error there.

I wanted to take this thread to a new direction since I realize it has gotten off track of late. No doubt, it was at my writing, but my original purpose was to write a FR of my latest trip to Sabang, where I spent 19 days during the month of July.
I did a bit of research from the thread at first, and unfortunately, I have to report not much has changed. I can offer all the pros and cons.
Getting There:
I took the bus from City State Tower Hotel in Ermita. The bus leaves at 8 am and after arriving in Batangas you are lead to the connecting ferry by a Sikat agent. The bus takes about 3 hours and the boat about 1.5 hours. Cost was 700 peso one way, 1400 round trip open ticket. Don't Book a hotel from the ferry terminal in Batangas as you will get a better deal when you get there in Sabang. I cannot comment about White Beach though. And it was low season.
Where to Stay:
I stayed at the Seashore Resort. I rented a little bungalow for 1000 peso a night. Little kitchen and porch with ocean view (second floor). In the high season everything is double or triple. You can stay at different resorts in Sabang for the same price that have pools but smaller rooms and better restaurants, just do some checking before you commit. I also had to pay in cash as their credit card machine was "broken". (uh-huh)
This is a huge pain in the ass as there is no cash machine in Sabang. You can rent a little scooter guy to take you into Puerto Galera for 100 peso, which is the nearest ATM which will allow you to take out 10,000 peso at one time. Or, you can go to the money changer in Sabang, and use your credit card to get money and they will charge you 6% interest (no thank you MF!).
Also, I would not recommend Big Laguna or Little Laguna as I went to some BG houses over there and it was a pain in the ass to walk along the beach at night after a few drinks to get there. Only took a few minutes but still, it was a pain in the ass. (IMHO)
Sabang has 6 gogo bars and Sunset disco is closed and up for sale. A few massage parlors are available during the day, and you can party all night at Venus disco (Live band sometimes on the weekends) or at Big Apple's.
Mostly I hung out at Broadway because it has a bar on the bottom floor, a disco (girly bar on the second floor), and a gym (open during the day) on the third floor. It was a nice way to start the night.
I barfined from all the bars and its 1000 peso to the bar and 1000 peso to the girl in the morning, non negotosh as far as I know. For me, that always included two pops. I did this for 10 days straight, but on days 11 -14 some girls stayed late and went and got food and came back to the room to cook breakfast and hang out and watch TV. Days 14-19 I fell in "Like" and kept the same girl and rented a motorbike for 600 peso and went to the falls, Calapan, White Beach for the day, etc... you know did the BF/GF thing. She even went with me all the way to Manila and saw me to Airport blah, blah, blah.
I thought, man, this chick is really working hard for a tip! I told her only 2000 per day and thats it, but when in Manila she asked for 15,000 peso! I still gave her 2000 per day. But she got an extra 1000 and dinner in Manila, so whatever. Still, great GFE from all the girls.
I did run out of steam/ stamina on day 10 though and thought if I do ever come back to Sabang I would need to go on some kind of work out/ hard core fitness routine for a few months before hand. I guess if I was still in my 20's I could do it, but not anymore. :(.
Still, Mindoro was beautiful and relaxing, with the waterfalls and diving and beaches.
Speaking of the beaches, White Beach was a good day trip, but not for mongering. Too many tourist and no go go bars. They had one bar with a Ladyboy show that was entertaining, but that was it for nightlife, and you only need to see that once. As for pussy, forget it unless you want Korean tourist pussy during the day.
And speaking of Korean, I would say the entire place is about 80% Korean. Maybe 10% Japanese, and 10% European and Australian. I was the only American there. The pinay freaked out when I said I was American. "What are you doing here?" They asked. I would tell them that I was there for the diving, but I actually never did any diving.
Mostly I would be out all night, come home when the sun came up, eat some breakfast early morning or fuck and then eat, and sleep all day and do it again the next night. I never really got into the diving thing, but that is what most people did there.
So, I would say, with well over 50 dive sites, ranging from open water 1 to advanced/master diver, if you are a diver and like warm water and phils pussy with no hassle barfine, then Sabang is a good spot to be.
I can also attest to the Korean sweep. Those dudes are out in the bars by 6pm and got the hot chicks by 8pm and back in the rooms fucking by 9. I would be just going out and these guys would be coming back to the resorts in packs, that's how they travel, each with a hottie. I cannot imagine what high season would be like. Probably more competitive.
As another aside, during high season, there are two floating bars anchored out in the bay. They were not there when I was there as I guess they cannot keep up with the tides or storms, but during high season, with live bands my guess is that would be quite a party.
A group of Aussie chicks were at Broadway every night (staying at Big Apple resort). Some nice blonds in that group. They had been on holiday for a month or so. Literally no one was giving them any attention, and it seemed like anyone could take them home. My thought was they probably were not used that! Young hot blonds and everyone wanted Filipina!
Weather was good the entire time I was there, and the typhoon in Luzon missed us, but it rained every night. Still was sunny every day. If anyone wants photos I can post. Let me know.

Hmm, spit not working? Just kidding. The closest Pharmacy is in Calapan that I know. Its a one hour Jeepney ride. The scenery is really beautiful along the way. Or, if you know how to ride a motorcycle, you could rent a big bike for 600 peso (they start at 800 peso), and make a day trip of it by stopping at the falls (water cold as shit), stopping at the local eatery, and taking your new found "like" shopping in Calapan as I did.
She will of course love you for it, and I just gave her 500 peso and said meet me when your finished shopping. I needed some meds and that was a nice day trip and break from Sabang.
Or just ask one of the girls where to get some lube, they of all people should know.

I have read the archives of this thread and picked up some good info since I am will be visiting some of the cities around Cebu next trip and I am looking for some GF friendly hotels that are well located near shopping and some restaurants. I do not have to stay in the best hotel in town but often I know that the selection in some of these cities will be limited. Also any info on nightlife such as gogo bars or freelance hotspots and any other general tips would be very useful.

Incidently, there used to be sex offerings on private houses on the way to Calapan in the past, especially around the water fall. Sadly, everything has been "cleaned up" now. Still an interesting trip, and the road has been improved too whereas before it was really rocky. A few girls to be found in Calapan but not as many as in Sabang. There's a couple of clubs, plus the plaza in the evening and the university (try to get a motorcycle driver to ask the university guards. Some students need to round up their fee and the guards may know them). You could take the Supercat back to Batangas too so no need to come all the way back, except if you rented a bike.
The clock is getting closer for my early sept, 3 month visit.
If I can find a nice spot around this area it may take 1/2 my visit time.
I have been doing alot of research to find my hotel resort bungalow style, which has to have wi-fi.
What baffles me is the huge change in price when wifi is a must.
Many resort/hotels have internet but only in lobby, I must have it at my room and not at a huge hourly rate.
Seems White Beach area has the better higher end places that are fully loaded?
Any prices or info appreciated.

I have read the archives of this thread and picked up some good info since I am will be visiting some of the cities around Cebu next trip and I am looking for some GF friendly hotels that are well located near shopping and some restaurants. I do not have to stay in the best hotel in town but often I know that the selection in some of these cities will be limited. Also any info on nightlife such as gogo bars or freelance hotspots and any other general tips would be very useful.

I wanted to fly to Ozamiz from Cebu then take a bus to CDO then on to Butuan City and finally end up in Surigao City spending a few days in each city to meet some of my chatmates who have been bugging me to go visit them. Has anyone taken a bus to and or from these cities and can give me advice about schedules, prefered bus lines, price, safety and what to look out for. Would you advise me to buy two seats so I can keep on eye on my bag?
I also was interested in taking a ferry from Surigao City over to Tacloban City, does anyone know if this is possible?
Any info on these cities would be a huge help.

i lie Kingston Lodge in CDO (or about 5kms out of town.) Its Expat owned well managed very monger freindly good prices with a pool and their restauant is fine. But as its out of town its best if you have a medium ternm who you stay with rather than girls comming and going taxi to town is about 90P i think

From Surigao you can cross to the other side then take the bus. You can go up to Tacloban by bus from the right side of the island or the left. I did the right side, a friend of mine did the left. Same same. Just don't go too late or you may be stranded as the last bus is early. Also don't believe the time schedule of the ferry the tourism office (on Surigao plaza) gives you. The time table at the port is the one the boats follow.
No need to reserve two places on the bus. It isn't that dangerous. Traveling around 5 pm is nice, because the sunset light makes the countryside even more beautiful and greener than they already are.

Many thanks for your comments and advice but unfortunately several girls and long term residents have confirmed that there is no lube nor toys available in PG. The girls with their own lube have had it donated by past customers before leaving.

alegre is on cebu's west coast just over an hour north of mactan. alegre beach is the place pictured in my prior post. tamaraw beach hotel (on anninuan beach just west of white beach, mindoro) is pictured here.
wifi is a luxury in the bundok and only upscale places will have it (and even then speed will be slow, connection unreliable). consider investing $60 or so in a smartbro wireless modem.

But it's the Philippines and there are millions of available women there. The last time I was there I was looking at buying a house in a new Italian themed subdivision. I bought a condo in the Fort instead. Anyway, I have always had the best luck talking with department store ladies. They are usually more educated, speak better english and still love to date. Try the mall there, its nice and start doing some talking. You'll find someone for sure. If not its not a long drive at night after the traffic dies off to head back into makati. BTW if you are out one night, try the Embassy Superclub in Fort Bonifacio if you haven't already been there. Its crazy and always full of hot hot hot chicks.

Theres a funny little bar near top of Zapote Raod called Suzy wong. Used to date and score with two of waitresses there.
Lots of girls in Festival mall, less so in ATC (alabang town Centre) but thousands girls in SM mall. Don't go there weeeknds as half of Manila seems to be there.
Theres a Sogo near the old mall on other side of Muntinlupa highway and where theres a short time motel. They can sometimes do in call.
Use DIA for girls living in Alabang or in Cavite. Theres plenty there and some are game. I had a Cavite girl take a 2 hour jeepney trip on my last Manila advnture to meet me.
I would look at it as a challenge and try your best.
There used to be a great driving range there too with lots of cuties. Managed to nail one but it took 3 months of swinging at balls before she gave it up.
But like all things, its a challenge and requires a positive spirit.
There are KTV places all along Zapote road, cultivate a friendly taxi driver to take you up and down the road, be funny and polite, and you WILL get what you need.

Last year, and the year prior, I just showed up at Leyte Park and they always had standard rooms available. I think it came to 40usd per night. I agree with other posters, LP could benefit from a little renovation, but the location is great... a beautiful waterfront view and just a few mins trike to the center of town. Both times, I had arranged entertainment prior to arrival, but I noted that women were discretely trying to get my attention whenever I went by the reception area in the evenings.
There is also McArthur Park Resort. Much further away from the center of town, but much nicer IMHO.
Any and all info of ones experiences in and around PG would be appreciated.

Although travel advisories of a number of embassies red flag the whole of Mindanao there are many areas that remain quite safe in my view including the major cities of Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Butuan and Surigao City.

Thinking of spending a few relaxing days in Boracay on my next venture to PI before turning loose in AC/ maybe even Manila now that LAcafe seem to reopen. Loved the photos of the beaches in Boracay. Hotels and RT tickets from either Cebu or Manila are not too expensive either. So it might be doable for me.
Does anyone have any info or even any idea if there are any FL or girlie bars or brothels on Boracay--in case I get too lonely or (horny). Trying to avoid having to wank myself to sleep.

I had planned to fly back from CDO to Davao on Thursday night, but the weather sucked, the flights are often canceled in the midst of heavy rains, and I didn't want to take the risk of going to the airport, finding the flight canceled, and then returning only to find I had no room because the hotel (Mallberry) was full. So instead, I opted to stay the extra night and to drive back on Friday, seeing as we had a car and driver already in CDO and he would be returning to Davao with or without me.
This is probably the 20th or maybe the 30th time I've made this drive, and, as Denom has said, the countryside of Mindanao is truly beautiful as I was reminded again. The terrain varies from coastal to mountainous, the greenery is lush and varied, and there are enough pit stops along the way that you don't have to worry about chances to empty your bladder. That said, while I recommend the drive, I would never recommend taking a bus. It's true, they're comfortable enough, and safe enough during the day that you don't have to worry about hijackings, robberies or kidnapping. However, the drivers are insane, take absurd risks along roads that are, at best, marginal, and seem to learn nothing from the all too frequent accidents that have occurred in the recent past. If guys want to take these side trips, I suggest finding a couple of other fellow travelers and sharing the expense of renting a car and driver.
I've not made the drive to Butuan, since when I need to go there I fly from Cebu or Manila, but I'm sure it too is a beautiful one. I can assure anyone who might be curious that, unless you're into banana and coconut trees, rice fields and sugar cane farms, there's not a hell of a lot of interesting scenery on the road from Cotabato to Davao, but even this might prove intriguing to some. I've been here so long I more or less take all of the aforementioned for granted.

Does anyone have any info or even any idea if there are any FL or girlie bars or brothels on Boracay--in case I get too lonely or (horny). Trying to avoid having to wank myself to sleep.

As a rule Boracay is a Bring your own babe place. There are freelancers around, but the quality is not inspiring and the asking prices toppy. Therer are lots of foreign tourists chasing a relatively small local population and most of the pinoys that can afford to go there are from a wealthy background so not so interested in typical monger material.
If you are thinking of visiting Boracay soon, just be a bit careful.

The sand is often wet, and not so appealing. I was in Cocomangos about a month ago. Lots of Koreans there, probably more women than men. And maybe 10 to 15 fl who seemed to spend their time doing not much. maybe there was trade later in the evening, but they didn't seem to be very hopeful. So you should be able to get fl readily.
By chance, I ended up staying at a small place called Dave's Straw Hat Inn. Very pleasant, well run, good price, wifi worked. Just a bit far from the main action.
We have just had the bus high-jack and 8 Chinese killed in downtown Manila by a disaffected ex-police officer who wanted his job back.
Not so well internationally reported but far more sinister in my view is a bus hold up with 4 killed in south western Mindanao in the last 24 hours. A bus on its way from Cagayan de Oro to Zamboanga City was held up at 1 am Thursday by nine gunmen dressed in police uniform who had created their own "police" check point. The 20 passengers were ordered off the bus and the driver, conductor, and two uniformed police guards were shot dead. The bus was then set alight and the attackers fled.
The incident happened at Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte, Mindanao, which is about 60 kms south west of Iligan City. This is a pretty tension-filled area. The bus marshalls were there because of previous problems. Perhaps the local militia were due their local cut from the bus company? Whatever the reason there is a risk in the south west Mindanao where muslim-christian tensions are fragile.
Although travel advisories of a number of embassies red flag the whole of Mindanao there are many areas that remain quite safe in my view including the major cities of Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Butuan and Surigao City.

In some areas using Vans is the better option. Drivers explained to me that Bus companies often try avoid 'local taxes.' The Van lines are operated by powerful local families who often have interested on both sides of the law. Night buses in that specific region are not a good idea.
I personally have seen local policy near that spot. They were holding out their hands for 50 peso tax per Van. Buses would likely cost more.
Small world, I stayed at Straw hat several years ago for my first and possibly last trip to Borocay. No wifi when I went there, I actually went up into Dave's office to use his computer.
Dave of Straw Hat had a Fil wife and she was apparently operating a business in Hawaii.
"Yes, honey, you go to Hawaii and I'll stay in Philippines seeing if I can make this Borocay hotel business work." Tough life.

This is probably the 20th or maybe the 30th time I've made this drive, and, as Denom has said, the countryside of Mindanao is truly beautiful as I was reminded again. The terrain varies from coastal to mountainous, the greenery is lush and varied, and there are enough pit stops along the way that you don't have to worry about chances to empty your bladder. That said, while I recommend the drive, I would never recommend taking a bus. It's true, they're comfortable enough, and safe enough during the day that you don't have to worry about hijackings, robberies or kidnapping. However, the drivers are insane, take absurd risks along roads that are, at best, marginal, and seem to learn nothing from the all too frequent accidents that have occurred in the recent past. If guys want to take these side trips, I suggest finding a couple of other fellow travelers and sharing the expense of renting a car and driver.Buses are especially good for people who have a lot of time to just wander around Philippines. Not good for people on holiday with only 15 days a year or what. Renting a van then may indeed be a better option, but it isn't as flexible as to just hop on and off buses. Van almost always come with the driver and this being the Philippines, the driver does not make a big difference in price. But to improvise your itinerary if you have all the time in the world, buses are great.
Last trip I made was Davao, Tagum, Butuan, Surigao, Sirgao, Tacloban, Ormoc, Cebu city, Moalboal, Dumaguete, all by bus (with the occasional boat/ferry/supercat), then back to Manila by airplane because I had a family appointment, but I could just as well have continued all the way up by bus through Bais, Bacolod, Iloilo, Boracay, Puerto Galera then Manila.
It's so easy with just short trips of max 5 hours to go all around the Philippines this way, and it costs peanuts. Unlike other countries, including Thailand, it's so easy to meet local girls. On the plaza in the evening, at the beach, malls, through tricycle drivers... (and I don't speak about karaoke and bars). Again you need time and you won't get lucky every time but just speaking with them can be fun too. They are a fun lot and by all means they always very ready to be invited at Jollybee and you'll get tons of cell phone numbers that will keep you busy no end. Don't go at their house. They won't do anything with the family there and half the village will gather to watch the foreigner.
That's how buses can be fun, but yes, for short stays, business trip, etc, airplane and van are better. There are also downsides. Drivers can be reckless indeed (but so are those in town and by all means they are half as reckless as in Sri Lanka, not that it helps much); price/quality ratio of lodging is bad, food (if like me you don't like sea food) is a problem, cleanliness is not Thailand, buses as well as ferries can be somewhat dangerous at times, etc.
These all are the pro and con of bus travel improvisation, but if I compare all the Asian countries together, Philippines is the best for this kind of travel improvisation because the infrastructure is adequate, weather always perfect (rare to get non-stop rain in the PH though it happens, especially on the East side, Samar etc), your dollars or euros goes a very long way everywhere, but mostly because its people speak English and are so welcoming and always so interested/friendly with foreigners and always joyful/laughing. It really is fun and more times than not if you don't rush things you can get lucky as well. Plus staying in the cheap hotels (I don't use air-con or TV just need a clean bed and ideally wireless (more rare)), gets you to meet at times penniless sleeping or otherwise beauties as well... Quite a few fond adventures had I this way.

The bad qualities of bus drivers might actually be the single most valid argument to get on buses. Last week a former beauty queen and her companions died in a crash. A bus overtook a tricycle and converted her SUV into a pancake. I pick seats among the middle rows. So the truck hitting the back is at some distance and also the debris from the driver's victim wont fly right into my face. Some routes are rather rough so Vans might be no fun at all. Having said that, I m pretty tired of buses in the RP. Some 3rd class Thai services easily beat the aircon RP lines.
Some routes are only serviced by buses as some local strong man believe that the population should be held hostage. So they make the money and nobody else.
I was here last weekend. It's often said that you should BYO to Panglao, and I did. But while I was in Bohol Beach Club I spied some opportunities at the adjacent public beach. It's to the east of the resort, going left if you're looking out to sea. Especially on a Sunday it will have lots of local people, a slight majority of which will be the target group.
Also, in the resort itself there were a few Korean girls that appeared unattached and looking for fun.

Hey what are peoples thoughts about renting houses/condos in CDO? How do you know the people will not just take your money and not rent you the house? What are some tips for 1st time renters? I was just thinking of renting for a month to cut down on money stolen if that was the case.

Stay at Top Plaza Hotel (Echaves St Corner Quezon Avenue Dipolog City) is right in the middle of town.
Walk around get friended by chicks. There is a new large mall, lots of girls around.
There a couple of 'bars' within a few blocks in which you will find local patrons only. Ask a trike driver to take you to one. Locals are getting it for PHP200 a pop just to give you a guide on how much you will be overcharged hehehehe :)

Dipolog is not a mongering destination but like everywhere in the PI there are girls looking for a farang to milk.
Look if I were you i would go on CB or DIA, search for girls there & let them know you are going to Dipolog. never hurts to line up a couple to audition.

Just a small point of clarification.
Pretty much all girls from around Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor are Cebuanas, because the Visayan language is called Cebuano.
There is no physical difference between Bohol women and Cebu women. Maybe Bohol women are raised on a more "religious" diet (check out the biblical quotes on all the tricycles), so they may appear as a bit more conservative.
The hottest girl I ever met in Cebu came from Bohol (sample of 1) but it shows that variety is unpredictable.

You rent a place in CDO like you rent a place anywhere else in the PI, first you check the place out and see what the problems are, open sewers, noisy kids, a chicken farm next door.
Most landlords in the PI will not rent you a place unless it is a one year lease, they usually want a month up front, the last month and maybe another just for show. If you are in doubt about the ownership you can challenge the person to show you paperwork that says they own the place or have the
legal right to own it. You should get a copy of any lease they sign and if there is a dispute you cna take it to the Barangay captain.
I used to live in CDO, you cna rent some apratments thre for undr P10,000 a month close to Limkekai mall.

I arrived in Tacloban last night, and as expected, Leyte Park Hotel has seen much better days. The room wasn't really BAD, barring a broken room-safe in the first one, but everything could use refurbishing and a coat of paint. The three things it does have going for it is location, location, location.
Met a DIA cutie here last night, gonna take a lot of work with her, probably a long-term project, but cute, slim and smart. Only staying 2 nights here so probably no action with her this trip.
Does anyone know of a fitness center or gym in Puerto Galera close to Sabang Beach? I'd like to get my daily workout in October while I'm there if I could. If not, I'll have to ride the girls a little harder I guess. :)

C.I've been to Puerto Galera a few times, but only for short trips so I never really looked for a gym. I'll be there eight days this time and will definitely be in need of a gym to kill time in between fucking, and diving. Never heard of the Boardwalk, but I'll check it out. Thanks!

Anyway, there is a gym in Sabang. Or at least there was in July when I was there.

As for the dawgs, no - there are enough cuties, but you got to start your search early in the evening, not after 11 PM or later.

Puerto Galera is hit or miss depending on what time of the season you're there. With only five clubs (discos) to choose from, the pickings can be slim. Most of the girls working there hop a ferry in from Manila or else where's. Last January when I was there the selection of women was fantastic. I'm hoping this October will be the same. If not, I'll simply head to AC or Cebu.

Old/fat/ugly's? Really? I was there in July (total low season) and was pretty much fucked out by day 10. My journal I kept told me the total was at 20 girls.
I then met Miss Sabang, and her friend Miss Sabang-Best Bikini Body (saw the sash in her room later that night). Kept them both for next 9 days.
As far as I'm concerned, Sabang has some goooooood pussy.
