My own experience at country jam was not so hot...the viets are all over you and seemed to promise lots and deliver little. Erika Fry Not far outside central Singapore, across from one of the city-state's foreign worker dormitories, is a small forest.
It appears ordinary enough. Just trees, separated from the pavement by a steep embankment. If one looks closely, there is a trail; and if one is curious enough, it leads to a clearing that even at first glance, appears. Part-dump, part-deserted camp. Not quite right.
There's a spirit house at the base of a ribbon-wrapped tree, and just beyond that a cache of futons that have been flung in the brush. Tree branches are knotted with plastic bags. The site is strewn with beer cans, water bottles, planks of cardboard and a tremendous number of condom wrappers.
Yet what looks abandoned and random by day is reassembled and ready for business by night. The futons are brought out of the brush and laid on the cardboard mats, and a group of Thai ladies are brought in. Either from forest hideouts or cheap hotels in Singapore's red light district. And lined up on a log bench. There, they'll wait for their customers. Bangladeshis, Thais, Indians, an international coterie of foreign workers, almost all of whom will wander over from the dormitory across the road.
During the course of the night, a woman might service 20 men. She'll dispose of the condoms in the hanging plastic bags and wash herself using the water bottles provided. The air will be thick with mosquitoes, and she'll have sex, with ambiance and privacy provided by a tarpaulin, for S$10 or S$20 a session.
However un-Singaporean this may sound, such sites. Also known as "forest brothels". Are long-established and relatively common in the tightly-regulated city-state.
Usually located in wooded areas surrounding Singapore's foreign worker dormitories (these tend to be zoned in areas on the outskirts of the city), the sites serve as one of the few. Also the cheapest. Sexual outlets available to the hundreds of thousands of men that migrate to Singapore on annual construction contracts (there are an estimated 43, 800 from Thailand).
A handful of Thai workers who lived at a variety of Singapore's worker sites, and were well-connected with the Thai community there, estimated that several hundred women work in Singapore's forest brothels at any one time. The sites are also the destination for a number of Thai women. By almost all standards (though not Singapore's) trafficking victims. Whose migration stories have usually taken an unanticipated and sinister twist.
Though the story comes in countless variations, the women working in the forest camps are almost invariably doing so against their will, says Bridget Lew, founder and president of Humanitarian Organisation for Migration Economics (HOME), an NGO in Singapore that runs a shelter to assist foreign workers. "No one wants to be there, " she says, explaining that the women have been drawn through deception, and are then held captive in a "circle of fear".
"They don't know where to run, " she says. "They are in the middle of the forest in a country they don't know. They are scared of the authorities because they are foreigners. "
While anecdotal evidence suggests many of these operations exist, and persist largely due to Singaporean policy. What many call its "blind eye" approach to trafficking and the strict sexual code that governs its migrant workers (see sidebar). Little is being done to stop them or amend policy.
"It's quite complicated, " says Dr Pattana Kitiarsa, a Thai anthropologist who teaches at National University Singapore and who has studied the issue extensively. "These women know what job they are on, but can't accept the conditions. It becomes a trafficking problem because the women can't stand, and were not prepared for the conditions. They expect to work for clients, but were not expecting to sleep on the ground with mosquitoes and no toilets. "
He adds that in many cases, the women are held in debt bondage to the agents who brought them to Singapore.
Pattana explained that the nuances of the situation, that sometimes the women intended to work both illegally and in the sex industry, are at the heart of Singapore's argument that this is not trafficking and that such women are criminals, and not victims.
Those interviewed for this story (a Singaporean police officer among them) speculated that policing of forest brothels is rare because they are silent, out-of-sight operations that don't cause trouble for Singapore or its citizens.

A car is definitely not necessary, especially if you're a single male. I really doubt you'd want to pay 3 times what they'd cost in the US, plus the incessant hassle of parking, tolls, taxes and other assorted irritants. Public transports is cheap and plentiful, especially if you're working downtown. I've been here 8 years now, with family, and only once or twice briefly considered buying a car. They're just not necessary at all.

Have a job, negotiating package to go to SIN. It's complicated, but I expect my out-of-pocket costs to be negligible. Country club is doubtful, but would be nice. Car, not sure I'll particularly need one. I'll be traveling extensively, and not "home" a lot. How is transit, assuming one is working "downtown? " Where should one lie to minimize need for a car? Lone male, needing only a bed, bath, kitchen and the occasional soft heart to soothe my needs and urges.
General sightseeing, exposure to Asian cultures, golf would be great, dining, travel in general, and of course mongering.

Scuba, PSC stands for Paramount Shopping Center and it's on the far eastern part of the island in Katong between Geylang and the airport. You'd need to take a taxi to get there. Can do it by bus, but who wants to waste time doing that.
I'm sure Sudsoz could give you a better description and certainly more details, but it's basically a smallish mall full of 'buy me drink' Filipina girls. Firstly if you want in-bar action then Duxton Hill area has much more action. There are only one or two bars at Paramount where this might be on offer - try Homeground and MIB and maybe Abbey or Brizo. Barfines are not common as the gals have to work until closing.
The rest of the bars at PSC vary from friendly to rub your balls a little.
I stay at Paramount Hotel (above) on a regular basis and I generally frequent the friendly (i.e. no action) bars. And most nights I find 2 or 3 flippers who have not had any for weeks or months and who figure that a little comfort and good treatment is worth giving out a little - or maybe more. I would suggest that you try Abbey, Brizo, MIB or Homeground. Earlier the better to establish some credentials with drinks etc. You can always clear out and come back later. Get the gals number and confirm closing time and arrange to meet at the top of the escalator. Without a lot of homework you will probably have to pay something for the service.

I did spend some time at the bar though and just from 30 mn before closing. That was 4 years ago so things may have changed.

When I was there in late July, BRIX was fairly empty on a Thursday night. Not many tourists in town, as I heard. The WG's in the place were lackluster on the whole. The Cambo I took out was decent, for $200 plus a tip. She was my first from that country, so worthwhile as the latest "cultural" experience. :p

Well I think of this like buying a car the sellers opening price is just that opening. But maybe you do really want that model colour combination so your preperred to pay I am not.
As to the financial crisis, A lot of the people there are either on contracts or the trips were arranged much earlier in the year, I dont expect the foreigner exodus until the start of 2009 as cost cutting will get into full swing including layoffs and a stop on OS travel for a lot of companies.

Some of the girls at Brix and Marriot can be a little unrealistic about prices, so usually better value at OT, if your luck is in, there can be exceptions.
As has been reported here before, if there's no business to be had at the 'higher end' places girls will often head down to OT later in the hope of catching a customer. Depending on what's happening in town there can sometimes be more chumps around but prices don't change much, especially for those who know the score, as you seem to. Certain trade shows and large scale military visits can raise the girls expectations somewhat, but even on the nights when US Navy have been in town I never had a problem finding something decent.

It is not at all unusual to see fully armed police at the Singapore airport walking about but I have never seen them in town and in street till yesterday! I was really surprised to see them in group of four walking the Orchard Road to the east of Scotts Road on both side last night about 11:00 PM. Since last night was the 15th of Chinese New Year, maybe there was some events and they just were out to make sure all goes well. I also saw a group of boys and girls that were made to sit on the stairs in front of Lucky Plaza with their passports on their hand and a group of armed police watching over them. All the girls were crying and boys were shouting and arguing with the police. They were all taken away later with a police van.
I walked to OT and it was like usual except all the girls that usually stand in front, now stand in the back and the side street. I was tired and jet lagged and not in the mood to play. I had a drink at Ipanema and walked back to hotel! I will have some free times Wednesday and Friday night and I may go out then.

Hard to say.
Top end of Orchard puts you near to OT and Brix etc.
Chinatown/Duxton/Clarke area puts you near a lot of other bars and restaurants and stuff.
East Coast will put you near PSC, Joo Chiat and Siglap.
My understanding is that 3 months is considered short term but I do believe that there apartments around Joo Chiat/Marine Parade areas.
The other consideration is transport. If you will not have a car you might want to be near the MTR so that you don't have to catch taxis everywhere.

However, you are unlikely to find them just walking through- best to contact one of the two guys booking for them- Needfls or. You will need a local SIM to be able to make a booking (buy at any 7-11), and he may also want a sammy boy nickname- register for free on the sammy boy site.
On the other poster looking for a short term rental near the night life- I think Geylang is too crazy to live in, plus many of the girls are not going to be willing to come back to your apartment, anyway. Joo Chait is close by, has some interesting Vietnamese/Filipino bars, and is an interesting residential neighborhood. Depending on your budget, if it is higher, Lotus at Joo Chiat is a beautiful place to stay.
On the other hand, if by nightlife you mean more regular bars and social scene, then there are good apartments in Robertson Quay, right by Clarke Quay and lots of bars and restaurants.

After reading the forum, found that Aiko was near my hotel so walked in one day.
Downstairs in the lower, lower basement. There's a few bars down there as well. Any idea on what the entertainment is like?

While you might not find any dressed down to jeans and T-shirt, you'll still find some who look more 'upmarket OT' than anything else (perhaps because they head to OT if business at Brix isn't that good). None the less, many Brix girls still look like WLs, it's the rare ones who are dressed more 'elegantly' so they don't stand out like a flashing neon sign when back at your hotel lobby.

I have to disagree with your OT comments. Depends on your taste, but if you want Viets, Country jamboree is a good place there, and the ones that I have picked up (and I'm very fussy about viets), have been dressed up very well, often white dresses or blouses and skirts. I don't know of any outdoor venues in Sing. However, the ritual is the same as you described: Maids, Nannies and other have Sunday afternoon off and go looking for sex or a boyfriend. In Singapore, go to Orchard towers around 3:00Pm. It will be full of amateurs looking for fun. Mostly Filipinas and Indonesians. These are regular girls looking for sex and maybe a boyfriend. All it will cost you is a date (taxi, dinner and drinks). I think Lucky Plaza also works (Philipnas). It is more of a shopping center.
I have had good look with this in Singapore and also HK. It seems there is a shortage of single men in both places. The ladies get horny, want a boyfriend or at least a date with someone that treats them nice.

Yep - Lucky Plaza is full of pinays on sundays in the shopping centre and in the pubs. And Orchard Tower basement also rocks with one or two of the bars upstairs open as well. Early afternoon it is all amateurs and some WG drift in a bit later.
And yes it can get frustrating if they have to comply with an employer curfew. But you can ask about their life and their work and find out about that without being too blunt.

Actually, she seemed to be a very nice girl, from the short time I got to spend with her; we had a great conversation, she had a university degree of some sort. She rang me a couple of times a day before I left, but she couldn't get out to meet me again; but there was no follow up (perhaps I wasn't quick enough with an offer of marriage LOL).

Go to OT stand outside just wander around. You will be approached by few pimps. They will take you to the Russian girls staying in various hotels. If you are not satisfied with the girls at one location, you wil be taken to other hotels. You have to pay the taxi fare, pimp comssion (normally 10sgd) but the pimp will be quoting anywhere between 200-300 dollars for these girls. But the normal price if you book via the FL forum or others, you only have to pay 150. So you can bargain upto 150. Depends on what matters most to you - Singapore will give you variety and quality but everything will cost more. The new girls in town can also be quite natural and less commercial. In Bangkok you will get only Thais and the scene is very commercial.

Well last week I was wandering around in Singapore so I though let me check out the situation at OT as well as I said myself let me go to Brix also.
OT well it was the first time for me I looked at it more in "detail". I was last Friday there. After having been to Starbucks opposite at Orchard Towers. Already at Starbucks there was. What seemed to be a working gitl, at least judging by her attire. But she was so provocatively dressed that I couldn't take her to a decent hotel or my condo. So took a pass what she was a solid 7-8.
Then I went to OT and walked a bit the different floors before entering into Ipanema around 9h15 PM. Ok. So first the different floors. Lots of activity before and in the different bars, although a couple of massage parlors where I am sure you can get extra services. But the girls outside were so ugly that I took a pass.
So went to Ipanema after having read all the reports here. Well when having entered and only being two meters into the bar at least 5 girls grabbed immediately my arm and started working. You have no time really to assess the situation unless you are pretty rude right from the beginning in order that the girls understand to leave you first alone. So I did that. I could assess the situation. Pressure for drinks was quite high. But m, anageable. Ipanema the girls are mostly Vietnamese and quite aggressive. English is so so and the quality of girls is well in my eyes just a max/ 5-6 with the very rare 7. But this is as far as it gets. So in the end let work one girl on me drank my beer and left. Cannot say I did really like it. Prices in the 100.150 short time. It is definitely a buyers market as they were on Friday night much more girls than men. But prices haven't really dropped.
So after ipanema I was in for something else than vietnamese so went to Ble Banana which is more Filipino. They have some nice dancers which are ok.- one is a 6-7. I chatted with her during her break. Her english was ok, but then the pressure for a drink for her is starting from the waitresses wihc is apparently her job.
Well otherwise the level of girl best 4-5 and some of the ugliest and oldest filipinas approached me I have ever seen. Man o man. That was ugly.
After that I had enough from OY and ventured down to Brix. Friday at 10h30, ok you have to pay the cover charge of 25 SGD but it includes one drink. If you consider that a beer is 17 SGD so it is not too bad. Much worse for the girls. But they arrive on the weekend fairly early.
So when I entered. Wow. A totally different world. Nicely dressed girls and a lot of chioice. Mostly Vietnamese and Eastern Europeans (sme really hot russians with an attitude, but russians are not my cup of tea.) and also the occasional Chinese, filipina and thai. So good choice
The leve l of quality I would say starts at 6 with the average 7-8 and the with some 9 and the occasional 10. But anyhow this is matter of perception. Still mostly Vietnamese. Some with decent english, some not. A Couple of girls very direct what they want and if you don't bite they move on, some are on 30 days visa, some are 6 month and some are longer. One evening this week (because I returned a couple of times) I saw that outside they checked the passports of the girls quite ok in my opinion. Of course not for us men. So back I talked to a couple of days. And got quoted by one short time 250s$ (as I understood not time sensitive but only one one pop need to negotiate that). 400 for overnight. For the overnight I am quite sure that you can negotiate it down to 300. 350 and the short time maybe to 200 especially if it is early in the evening and they can go back.
Oh and the best. This was for the weekend. There is also a ratio of 2:1 girls/men so it is a buyers market. I had one cutie talking nicely to me and massaging me for 30 minutes. Very gently quite nice.
So I ventured back to Brix on Saturday and Sanunday and was there also last night on Tuesday. And there is on every day plenty of choice although yesterday there were more men there because they were still a lot of businessmen. So from Sunday on (no cover charge) it is empty between 9 and 10 and at bout 9h45. 10 the girls (regulars) are coming and by 10h30 there is plenty of choice. There are some there who are pretty old and have a lot of mileage I can tell you that. And some have also boob jobs and lip jopbs wouldn't touch them. But they are quite some cuties there. And still a lot of choice. I probably will go again. Just thought reporting on the situation and as the forum Singapore is pretty dead.
So if you want to have some qulaity I guess head down to brix if you are in for q quickie head down to OT of course it is cheaper there. But no comparison to the quality.

Well went a couple of times back to Brix this week and basically it is everyday full. Action starts around 945. 10h15 when the girls start to come in and from that time there is a steady flow. Quite a selection although during the week there are more men in the club since a lot of business people still in town and from the hotels, from the discussion with some guys it is clear that Brix is known.
Choice is still amazing also with regard to nationalities. Besides Russians and a very large contigent of Vietnamese, ther are some Thais, Cambodians, PRC's and surprise two days ago some Mongolians. That Mongolian girl was quite a stunner. A solid 8-9, 24 years old and actually looked without the clothes every better. Everything was there where it should be. She quoted me in Brix 400 for ST and I basically said to her if she is insane, negotiated her down to 250 which was more or less ok, but still expensive since I had to pay a hotel. Looks like in particular the Cambodians and vietnamese have talked to each other. Everybody quoted 300 ST and 500 LT a bit much for my taste. Last weekend I was quoted by a Vietnamese 250 ST.
Oh and the girls do quite know what they want. If after 10 minutes there is not an indication from you that you want to take her. Then they move on and tell you in polite words to get lost because they have to work.
There is a nice mixture of professionals, freelancers and e. G. Students who need some money to finance their studies quite.

About 100 pages of reports back to read and re-read what goes down in Singapore. I think it goes without saying. PHEW! Singapore is a happening place. I've been active in the Taiwan scene. And man that place looks like a DUMP compared to Singapore.
I did have a few questions (and no its not about whether hotels are GF! ) if you guys don't mind summarizing things for me. It seems everyone here is cool and has obliged a newbie in the past:
1. Correct me if I'm wrong, the happening places in Singapore are Geyland (cheapest), the OT scene and Brix (most expensive potentially)? There seems to be some action in this Lucky Plaza area. Mostly on the weekends (Sunday) where the talent is more philipino maids etc?
2. When hitting up bars in OT or in Brix. Sure you have to pay the cover (I don't think that applies for Ipanema though? ) but is buying alcohol there a must? Either for yourself or the ladies? I'm not a big drinker and especially before I take a little piece home I want to be in the sharpest of wits! I mean could I conceivably just pay cover, scope the talent and walk out with a girl (okay maybe I buy her a beer.)?
3. Towards the earlier posts it seems that maybe if I walk along Orchard road, I'll be able to pick up alot of talent. They'll be sitting on benches and what not. I just wanted to confirm this.

Lucky Plaza has a few filipina pubs where you can find gals most days and nights of the week. Not high standards though. Weekends (especially Sundays) are when the pinay maids come to play there and at the basement of OT.
I think the only place that charges a cover to the guys in OT is Top 5 and most of the bars get the shits if you do not buy a drink of some sort - not necessarily alcoholic.
There are street girls at various locations along Orchard Road but they move around quite a bit for obvious reasons. Recent reports had a group near Orchard Shopping Centre/Somerset area.
Don't know about the Indians but in the basement of OT is a bar called Blue Lagoon (or something like that) and in the front section there are filipinas and the rear section are Indonesians. There is a hagged old mama there that negotiates a pretty fair deal.

It is actually Geylang which is a large neighbourhood and RLD part is south of Geylang Road between Lorong 6 and 22. OT, Orchard Tower, is a four-story building also known as Four-floor-of-wh***s! Many bars and discos there. BRIX is the trendy bar located at the basement level of Grand Hyatt Singapore.
2. When hitting up bars in OT or in Brix. Sure you have to pay the cover (I don't think that applies for Ipanema though? ) but is buying alcohol there a must? Either for yourself or the ladies? You can order soda or juice and I am not sure if these places even have "Lady Drinks" where the girl gets a percentage of the drink price. I am not much of a drinker myself so I stick to OJ, however, I have bought drinks, mostly beer, for ladies and a few were happy with just OJ too.

Took a taxi at airport. The woman taxi driver was friendly. As it was my first visit to Singapore she started showing me the places of interst on the way to my hotel from airport. I asked the front desk clerk and he said there was a club in the basement called Brix. I decided to go give it a quick look before heading to OT. I highly recommend Brix, I didn't even leave to go to OT. Plenty of attractive ladies from which to choose, a good vibe, but the drinks are a bit expensive. After about 30 minutes of chatting with several ladies, I settled in with a girl from Vietnam, talked and enjoyed a drink.
Brix was well stocked with talent, but since it is at the Hyatt, the girls try to hold the premium price line, starting offer is SGD300 for ST. I held out until about 2am and finally got SGD200 for LT. It was easy to walk upstairs, the hotel staff didn't bat an eye as we walked through the lobby. The Hyatt is definitely GF.
The bummer of it all is that while the girl was attractive, the sex was marginal. She complained the whole time that it hurt, didn't like to kiss and was totally fake moaning. You win some, you lose some. I'll certainly go back to Brix and try a different girl next time around. I'm sure there are some good ones in there.

Three comments:
1. APAC man is spot-on there are heaps of reports about Brix in here.
2. The Viets who make it to Singapore and are dressy enough for a place like Brix have been well exposed to the dollar and are very commercial as a result.
3. I would expect most of the girls from Brix to be high priced primma donnas with a million complaints and rules. I doubt that you will find a good one but I suppose it will be fun trying.

I was in the Brix last July and even on a Friday night it was empty. Pretty bad, so I ended up out at OT. Then a couple weeks ago I got back and Brix was hopping with girls. Mostly it seemed like 2 basic groups:
1 set that just sat around and hoped you would look them in the eye and come over to talk.
1 set that would be more playful, walking around and chatting with guys but asking $300 or more and acting hurt when you tell them that's too much.
I didn't like either of those camps, but there were some real hotties in the place so I stuck with it and found a tasty Thai girl about 2:30. She was good at English and liked to joke around. beauty salons dominate these two blocks of shophouses on west coast drive in clementi west.
they proudly advertise their services, ranging from hair styling to facials to massages, on signboards in the front, in bright inviting lights.
and this cluster of at least seven salons seem popular, from the number of customers making a beeline for them.
but, oddly, the clients aren't women looking for a perm or a beauty makeover.
they are men in slippers, faded shirts and shorts, hardly the sort to be seeking the services of beauticians or hair stylists.
some of them don't even have much hair.
but if they go in looking weary, they often emerge with a bounce in their step.
so what service is offered in these places?
according to one long-time resident of the estate, who wanted to be known only as mr lee, it's 'not the legal type'.
'real men go to barber shops, not beauty salons. they get their haircuts and leave,' he said.
'the older men who visit these beauty salons (in the estate) look the same when they come out. nothing seems to have changed with their looks.'
curiosity and suspicion made mr lee, who is self-employed, decide to find out for himself what goes on in these salons.
he could not understand why there were so many of them in the two blocks and why some remained open till as late as 11.30pm.
three weeks ago, he learned the truth.
'aside from beauty services, some of the salons provide massages. i just didn't expect the massages to include private parts,' he said.
mr lee said he entered one of the salons for a back massage and left feeling violated.
'when the massage therapist touched my groin, i asked her, 'what do you think you're doing?' when she realised i was offended, she continued massaging the other parts of my body,' he said.

mr lee was surprised because he thought such illegal activities in the hdb heartland had stopped about three years ago.
in june 2006, the authorities imposed tougher laws on massage parlours to stop sleazy activities.
about 12 months later, the police nabbed 706 foreigners, mainly china women, for working illegally as masseuses. in addition, 439 unlicensed massage parlours were ordered to stop operating.
the women in these salons on west coast drive are also mostly from china.
dressed in tight-fitting outfits, they smile and flirt with men who walk past the salons, said mr lee.
he proceeded to check out the other salons, and received an offer of sex at another salon.
said mr lee: 'a masseuse told me that they had to resort to a name change for the shop to be discreet. any shop with the word 'massage' would draw unwanted attention.'
but not all the salons are involved in the sex trade.
some appear legitimate, advertising their beauty and traditional massage services on posters.
massage chairs and beds and hair-perming equipment are in plain view at these shops.
over the last four days, we went to four salons and asked if they provided 'special' services?
all four women managing the salons gave us disgusted looks, saying they did not do so because it was against the law.
at night, however, one of the salons we went to during the day seemed to have changed its tune.
we approached a customer after he stepped out of the beauty salon and he revealed that it did provide sex to customers, but only if you asked discreetly.
the shipyard worker, who wanted to be known only as mrchoon, 49, agreed to reveal what goes on inside the salon provided we did not fully identify him.
he said that after he suffered a back injury at work two years ago, his colleagues had recommended this hair and beauty salon to him.

since then, he has always returned to his therapist, whom he knows as linda, a china national in her 30s.

linda, who has been working there for three years, is paranoid that other customers and her boss, also a china woman, might hear their conversations, said mrchoon.
