Hi Guys,

Will be arriving in Bangkok Feb 28 for 2 weeks. So excited! Have been doing a lot of reading and research of the ISG website lately (what a wealth of information.) Just paid the $20 to Jackson so I can have all the features available.

Will be in Thailand for 2 weeks total traveling with a buddy. Planning a visit to Bangkok, Pattaya and Koh Samui.

Here are my questions:

What's a good way to divide my time between these three places?

Bangkok:

-What is a great hotel in Bangkok approximately $100-200 per night? Budget is not all that important, taxi's and tuk tuk's will be put to good use. Would prefer to be located around Sukhumvit area. A nice pool and balcony in the room are VERY important. Must be girl friendly. (JW Marriott?) Really like to hang in the room a bit and have enough space to relax and chill with good A / C. There will be two of us guys staying there so probably interconecting rooms or a suite are a must so we can have our individual privacy.

Pattaya:

-Again a nice Pool to lay at during the hot days and a balcony in the room are a must. Good A / C too! Also interconnecting rooms or a suite. Girl friendly.

Koh Samui:

Any suggestions? Places to stay with the same prerequisets as above.

All advice and suggestions are welcome!

Thanks!

I can't find a website for Honey Hotel on Suk soi 19, at least not one that lists room rates or even gives an email address to try.

Is anyone aware what their room rates are now, or how I could find out?

I don't need anything fancy, though wouldn't be too thrilled with those garage rooms.

Their email address would be the perfect thing, then I could get it from the horse's mouth.

Thanks!

Premier Inn hotel on Sukhumvit Soi 20 has 800 bhat large rooms, no window or fridge, but A / C, breakfast included. Girl friendly. Good location. Had to kill two jungle roaches, but that was kind of fun, and then they loaned me a large can of spray.

Steve420:

I'm not a Samui lover and would allocate far more time to BKK and Pattaya. I travel to Thailand with a wingman and am always on the lookout for connecting rooms and or two bedroom suites near Sukhumvit. You've got a great budget to work with if you're talking about $100-200 for two rooms for two people. We usually share a 2 bedroom suite at Grand President for $150-190 / night. Suites come with 2 bathrooms, a washer / dryer, and a real kitchen. It's really a 2 bedroom apartment.

With your budget I would suggest Emporium Suites or the Column Bangkok. Both have websites and you can do a search for both. I haven't stayed at either but visited both and they were awesome. Location for both is good also. I would suggest using taxis instead of tuk tuks. They're cheaper, more comfortable, and air conditioned.

I hope others will provide names of placess with connecting rooms. Many of us travel with a wingman and connecting rooms are great.

I'm staying at this hotel right by the airport. I was hoping to get an outcall to the hotel. I'm a little bit younger so if someone sees me with some hot younger Asian chick I couldn't see them making anything out of it. As long as the girl's not wearing booty shorts in the lobby I can't see how anyone would be able to tell. But please, it's my first time in Thailand spare a little help for the noob anyone?

Thanks.

Check this report:

http://www.internationalsexguide.info/forum/showthread.php?1029-Bangkok-Hotels&p=803255#post803255OK he talks about 800 baht rooms on the "ground floor" which is a bit misleading: there's no rooms in the actual hotel building on the ground floor, only upstairs. But out in the parking garage there are a few doors, and inside those doors are some very small no frills rooms. It's a bit of a walk of shame going back to a room like that with a girl, not in front of hotel staff and guests but in front of the girl. Having a parking garage as your hallway. I got stuck in one of those once when it was the only room available that night. I don't think the rooms have windows, and the bed goes almost to the opposite wall, the tv just barely fits.

Anyway, I'll email them and find out. But those rooms at 800 baht, due to the rise in the baht, are not a good bargain. This used to be a reasonably priced hotel, and it's not the kind of place that renovates. In its favor it does have a (tiny) pool out in front, which I've never used, and the free breakfast at the attached diner is nice (available all day-perfect for when you're been out all night. Or busy doing something in your room. And wake up in the afternoon).

I see the above listing for Premier Inn, which I'll check out, but if my memory is correct that's on the other side of Asoke, no? And for sure it's on the opposite side of Sukhumvit, I prefer to be on the odd side. When returning to hotel late at night then you're on the correct side to be let out of a taxi. On the even side you have to cross Sukhumvit, and going onto those raised catwalks isn't something I dig doing at 3am. I'm more of a Nana guy than Cowboy, but Honey is so convenient by taxi from there.

But yes, if not Honey Hotel, then something down nearer to Nana could be good too. And I'm trying to spend less on the hotel to leave more for more important expenses. But. It has to be decent. Like if you imagine Miami Hotel: no way. That place is kind of disgusting.

I just looked at the list on another Bangkok naughtyboy website. But slim pickings in the lower range, and also no details at all about what the places are like, what they include, etc.

The guy who posted below mentioned the no-window rooms at Premier. For me that would be a defnite minus. Roaches of course are another big minus.

So if anyone would like to point me in the direction of either a good resource for lower-priced places (and I don't need a pool) , I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

ps: if I visited in early Feb, would I have any bargaining power to negotiate any discount? Or are these Sukhumvit hotels pretty much sticker-price and that's it?

KBI have time on my hands so I called and they told me that there is a 500B joiner fee, :( bummer! As for escorts go to Bangkok 2 night dot com for an unlimited supply of outcall and massage girls. I've always had a great time with the girls from Lisa's Massage, she seems to have a wide selection of submissive girls and they are much cheaper than escorts. Or you could just try the Regent's Spa and Massage services, they may have what you want right there on site.

Actually, so far, I have never stayed in their cheapest rooms (I mentioned them in my previous report because another member was looking for a room in the 700-900 baht price range then), but quite often in their Single Deluxe rooms at 1000 baht/night with refrigerator. Those Single Deluxe rooms are great value IMHO, and if I am not mistaken, they are still available at the same price.

By the way, "on the ground floor" was Honey Hotel Reservation Officer's own term for the location of the cheapest rooms. I found an old email from this person mentioning the various rooms and rates:

...
Our current room rates:
Every room have air-conditioning, TV, hot - cool with bath tab.
Single Superior 800 BHT/night (on the ground floor & without refrigerator)
Single Superior 900 BHT/night (on the 3rd & without refrigerator)l
Twin room 900 BHT/night (two small beds without refrigerator)
Single Deluxe 1,000 BHT/night (on the 2nd, 3rd & with refrigerator)
Mini suite 1,300 BHT/night (one big bed with the facility)
Suite 1,500 BHT/night (one big bed or two big beds with the facility)
Our room rates have one complementary American Breakfast per room.
...
I don't know if those are the current rates for each kind of room because this email is more than two years old.

ps: if I visited in early Feb, would I have any bargaining power to negotiate any discount? Or are these Sukhumvit hotels pretty much sticker-price and that's it?
I don't think that you will get a discount there, even as a returning customer. But it never hurts to try getting one.

i don't think that you will get a discount there, even as a returning customer. but it never hurts to try getting one. yes i think that hotel must have excellent word of mouth since they don't even have a proper website set up. that one you linked to seems to have been set up for free by a loyal customer out of the goodness of their heart. and nobody returned my email, by the way. hopefully they answer their phones.

and yes that is a very generous way to describe those rooms, 'on the ground floor' indeed. you can tell that the guy who did the site is a true friend. yes, and for your convenience there are some taxis parked right in front of your room. i noticed one person (here?) said not to take their taxis. but i did take one once to the airport. after the typical niceties (the 500 baht offer by him, the sly grin by me) i was able to get him down to a reasonable 300 baht at 4am or so. but if not, can just go out to the street just outside the hotel and flag a meter taxi down as it passes, just a few steps away. which the drivers there realize, so unless they know some ripe target is heading to the airport in the next hour or so, they realize you're going to walk those few extra steps, and so it's a choice between your reasonable fare or a longer nap.

so the rooms: cheap garage ones outside: not very nice. they're ok i guess once you're inside, but mainly they're kind of embarrassing. the ones you describe as 1000 baht are upstairs on the inside side. those are ok except that they have pretty heavy-duty smoking stink in them, and feel older and more worn down than their counterparts across the hall, which are listed at 1350 baht. i once stayed in one of the nicer 3000 (?) baht rooms and they were definitely a good step up, lots more space, included sitting area if i remember right. but for that price you can be in an actual nice hotel, with a swimming pool that's bigger than my room.

but the location is quite good. just a tad away from the noise and crowds, but still very close. like 3 minutes walking to cowboy, maybe 2 min to thermae. it's kind of nice as you head back to your hotel at the end of the night to get one last peek in at thermae or the ones eating on the street. (tho it is annoying as hell having to walk thru that gauntlet of shirt-sellers earlier in the night in order to get anywhere in the lower sois than 19.) but even if you're at nana and want to head back, you cross suk and jump in a cab and it's about 2 minutes up the road for as cheap a taxi fare as you can get.

but if i had something comparable closer to nana, i might go for that instead. every time i get to bkk, i'm too busy with other things to go checking out rooms in other hotels to compare. maybe this time. i keep getting suggestions for ones that are further out than soi 19, across asok and on the even side. i don't like crossing the overpass catwalks late at night (or day either really) , and i'm not that into cowboy, so i like to stay on the odd-number side of suk so the final taxi ride is quick and simple.

others i've seen / stayed at in the same price range (miami, golden palace) look way rougher in comparison. wouldn't stay in one of those again.

thanks for the info

... And nobody returned my email, by the way...
They are sometimes a bit slow, but usually they reply to their emails within 48 hours maximum (according to my own experience). I suppose that it depends on the time you've sent your own email. It seems that they check their mailbox only once a day.

...I noticed one person (here?) said not to take their taxis. But I did take one once to the airport. After the typical niceties (the 500 baht offer by him, the sly grin by me) I was able to get him down to a reasonable 300 baht at 4am or so. But if not, can just go out to the street just outside the hotel and flag a meter taxi down as it passes, just a few steps away...
Yes, that was me who explained that (about their own taxis). It's probably a bit more difficult at 4am (never tried at that time of the night there), but indeed, I usually flag a regular meter taxi on the street just outside the hotel and if I am not mistaken, I haven't paid more than 200 baht so far (and often lesser than that) from this hotel to the airport.

...The ones you describe as 1000 baht are upstairs on the inside side. Those are ok except that they have pretty heavy-duty smoking stink in them...
I usually stay in their Single Deluxe NON-SMOKING rooms. They are located on the second floor (or third if you consider that the reception level is the first floor).

...I once stayed in one of the nicer 3000 (?) baht rooms and they were definitely a good step up, lots more space, included sitting area if I remember right. But for that price you can be in an actual nice hotel, with a swimming pool that's bigger than my room...
The most expensive rooms are their suites at 1500 baht per night (maybe a bit more nowadays as this rate was given to me a little bit more than 2 years ago).

Also, does anyone have any suggestions on good ST places close by Soi Cowboy or Nana Plaza that I should look into?

I think it all started when they got the new computer service for making reservations. I used it one time and found it difficult to maneuver through. It seemed to get lost part way to the end. I sent them an email saying the new system was messing with me. I would be there on a certain date, please give me the special rate. They took care of me, no problem and no need to use the computer to register.

The Dawin Hotel (same group of hotels) ask for my credit card number to hold the room and protect against a no show. To get around this and to protect my CC, I just change the last few digits of my card and email it through. Its worked everytime and my reservation is honoured. I guess they dont 'run' the number to see if its valid until its time to charge against it.

I was reading up on the Nana Hotel that's directly across from the Nana Plaza, and on tripadvisor's site, there were at least three to four instances of them denying rooms to people who were not white. Is this true? Does anyone else have experience with or knowledge of this? I was born and raised in the USA and I'm of Indian decent (parents moved here in the 70's). So if I make a reservation there, am I going to be denied a room?

And is Nana Hotel a place worth staying at? Or are there better options that are almost as close by? Any help would be appreciated.

IMHO Nana hotel is the equivalent of a short-time place where you bring a girl you don't want in your hotel room, but as far as staying there let's say it is really low-end. I have stayed there a couple times when I was traveling with colleagues and did not want to be seen with a lady at my hotel, but checked out after a few hours. Depends what you are looking for really, but there should be lots of better options. As far as being racist it is surprising because it seems to me there are so many people of different races and nationalities there all the time!

Was it in front on Nana Plaza? It would have been the Nana Hotel then. Rajah is on the same side about 100 meters further on.

If your budget is in the Nana / Rajah range then I'd go to the Ibis. Small rooms but at least its relatively new and clean (no pool though).

I didn't really have a lot of time to explore the hotel. Truth be told all I saw was the lobby, lift and my spacious deluxe suit. The suit was very nice with a nice big bathroom. It looked like it had recently been refurbished. The location was great and I slept very well. Good value for money. Only negative the Internet and Joiner Fees.

Hi I go to BKK, but had a few issues with current place I'm staying. I'm hoping to get last minute leads on somewhere I can stay near Siam Sq for ideally under 8k a week or 20k-25k a month starting today / tomorrow. I am only here for short term (1 month max) so hope to find something. This would really help me out right now so appreciate anyone reading this in the area who might have some suggestions!

There are many reports on ISG about Livingstones Lodge (LL). Here is mine.

For my first days in BKK I had booked Sheraton Grande. The one reason I did not initially book LL, was the seemingly lack of comfortable seating in the rooms. I have a back that needs resting now and then, and I need something comfortable that suits my particular back problem.

However, when visiting LL with the purpose of meeting one of their lovely hostesses, I got the chance to talk to the hotel manager, Guido, who simply asked me what I needed. I had at that point found a good little sofa, placed outside the Sports Bar, which was good for my needs. Guido then immediately confirmed that he would make sure the sofa would be in my room, should I decide to book my upcoming 6 days in BKK at LL. Said and done.

When I got there, and were taken to the room, junior suite I had chosen, the sofa was there.

That is only one out of dozens of superb responses and actions taken by him and his staff.

Throughout my entire 6 days stay, I can only conclude that LL provides service and attitudes that no Sheraton in the world get even close to. When entering the hotel part of the establishment, there is a sign saying "welcome to our home". I guess it depends a bit on how you, as a guest behaves, but if you, like me, appreciate that kind of closeness and intimate feeling that they offer, well then this hotel is better than most.

What you get in terms of tangibles are:

A good sized room.

A clean room, with a bed that is the most comfortable I can imagine.

I bathroom with funny but nice decor, not that big, but OK in size.

A nice jacuzzi in some rooms.

A clean and warm swimming pool.

A restaurant that gives you your breakfast ANY time you want it.

A breakfast that in no way gives justice the the quality of the restaurant, but is OK.

Thai, or western / German food at night of absolute highest standards. Surprisingly good food. Even good wines.

A Sports Bar, that caters extremely well to the interests of the ISG memebers = girls. Wonderful girls.

Staff in all corners that are always present and available, but never ever in your face when You don't want them to.

In addition, as mentioned above, a personal service of highest quality. The more You ask for, the more they show what they can and are willing to do for You.

Finally I want to mention the superb attitudes of the mamasan Jen and the above most things ruling Som. And, the manager Guido and owner Hermann, who also is constantly present and offering good advice, as well as company.

There is no place like home, or LL.

http://www.majesticgrande.com/

http://www.dynastygrande.com/Have to agree

The Dynasty Grade is the one I stay in for a few days when I arrive and before I fly home.

Its is gf and a couple of mins walk from Nana. 7-11 / family market nearby.

Excellent rooms decent cable wired internet, pool, reasonable food (only tried breakfasts)

Staff very friendly with me always remember my name etc.

Very well treated.

Not that expensive

Try latestays. Com and it coes in at 1800 baht a night.

The Majestic Grande is a more upper class establishment.

Friend of mine stays there as he has more money than sense.

But I know the people who own it the family that own the Majestic Tailors run both it and the Majestic Suites and they are honest hard working people who know how to run things and make very good suits for fat ba$tards like me.

Again late stays quote for this.

For a less expensive stay try ever rich inn just on sukhumvit between 3 and 5 where the freelancers all stand at the bus stop clean cheap definitely GF and has really big showers enough for me and at least 2 others with pleanty of space beds are ok King suite gets a window Queen gets a mirror behind a curtain but at under 1 K for this location its good value indian people who run it are very nice too

Been staying there a couple of times but I don't think I will again. To noisy rooms. All thoose sound comming from outside the doors, and through the walls. And last week the THAIMAN behind the desc, cheated me with the laundrybill (express when it was regular) and when I complained about this he just told me that we can take that some other time, I was checking out.

I'm staying in Hotel Solo, recommended in the hotel thread. It's within 5 mins walking from Nana, my usual hunting ground. The hotel proves to be OK for the price. The wotif deal is gone so I'm paying 2, 200 a night. Not exactly cheap for Thailand. But the room does look fresh and stylish, the beddings are great, it's a classy mid-range place.

One thing to note about Solo: it's not a mongers hotel, though it is girl friendly. There are couples, groups of girls travelling together, etc. These people are in the lobby checking their laptop in the evening. So if you are bit shy to take girls back to your room, keep that in mind.

I also checked out the Majestic Grande which is next door. I didn't like their basic room (too cramped) but the Deluxe room is pretty nice, it's a corner room (double windows) , big bathroom. It's about 3, 000 a night but they have some discount if you stay for a week. I might go for that when I come back from Samui.

I checked in at Honey Hotel, Sukhumvit soi 19, no 31. Today. Good hotel for the price and good location. Gf-friendly. I pay 900 for a room upstair, a / see but no fridge, and it smells old / shitty. The room downstair at the carpark is same type and cost 800. Then there are rooms from 1000 and upwards which are better with minibar and good air, I will move to one of them tomorrow. Then the wi-fi connection, first its not free, you have to pay for the time you use, secondly the net "Cyberpoint" blocks this forum! Totally horrible! I now have to sit at a restaurant nearby to access it.

Wouldn't really consider it now, as it hurts your image to be in a place that is probably below 3 stars. 3.5 star standard is now my minimum and Admiral Premier fits the bill nicely with 4 stars at about 2. 5K with kitchenette and everything included (no Internet fees).

I don't like to waste money on a Hotel that could be used for mongering, but the girls do like the Grand Millenium with separate shower and tub, big mirrors, super comfort beds, etc. Sometimes GM rooms are on the Wotif secret deal at good prices well under 3K.

It seems can't get Silq or Admiral Premier any longer for 2K, but for 2K price would recommend Livingstones (if don't mind creaky beds) , or Dawin, or Grand President, or maybe even Darjelling for under 2K.

Nic seems a little strange in that he wants to pay 4K plus for his room, but quibble over 200 Baht on the price of a massage.

My view is its best to have a moderate to good standard room at a good price, and keep the left over money to spend on girls. Girls will wonder why guys, tight with there money, will sometimes stay at expensive Hotels? What is the point to it? I only stay 5 star when the price is really good.

P. S. Can be a good idea to get an internet Aircard and plug in your top-up SIM, to avoid hotel internet charges or site blocking, if staying in Thailand for any length of time, or use internet tethering on your iphone.

BunkyBunky,

Yes your right on both counts.

The Admiral Premier is a bit difficult, unless you know where its is and know the turns.

But its very close to Chokchai Steakhouse. Taxi can either enter Soi 23, turn right after Indochine restaurant and turn first on the left, then Hotel is about 100 metres down on the right.

Alternatively, if travelling south towards Sukhumvit Road, in Soi Asoke, turn left after Bangkok Smile Dental clinic (7-eleven on Corner) about 400m before Sukhumvit Road, as though heading to ChokChai steak house, cross over Soi 23 turn right at the 2nd Soi after that (3rd Soi in all). Admiral Premier is then on the left.

Shown on Mick's Map (I think he first recommended it):
http://maps.google.com.au/maps/ms?hl=en&gl=au&ie=UTF8&oe=UTF8&msa=0&msid=211157051689439137713.00044a593b4e00593545f&ll=13.739218,100.564363&spn=0.005565,0.008208&z=17
If booking ahead, I see Agoda has Admiral Premier as low as 1877 THB incl breakfast and internet (plus taxes& service) which will come to 2173 THB per night (taxes add a lot). That is really a good deal. In fact I might take it myself.
Unfortunately a few tours are now using Admiral Premier because its very good for the bargain prices, so sometimes its booked out or priced very high.
Good thing about Agoda, is you can cancel and get a refund of most of money, depending on giving them at least 24 hours notice. I have got refund before when I changed my mind.

GM is on special now I think for 2800 but doesn't include internet or breakfast, so upgrade to get those is going to add a bit. I would look at bringing my own internet card, or use internet tethering on an iphone with edge internet connection. Its not super fast, but I found an aircard with Edge quite acceptable for my use. Charge for one month of internet on a SIM card was about 1K, and less for shorter periods. May need to try for a floor not too high and not too low for best reception.

If book wotif superspecials, probably no refund for cancellation.

GM annoyed me because they charge so much for internet but you only get one connection. So if you wanted to use wifi on your iphone as well as notebook, bad luck, or buy two internets (ouch!)

We all should really refuse to stay at Hotels where internet is not included in the price.

Their Single Deluxe rooms at 1000 baht per night are quite decent (and the other more expensive rooms too) IMHO. I never have stayed so far in their cheapest rooms, but for only 100 or 200 baht more, I would recommend to get at least a Single Deluxe room at the Honey Hotel. I never have had any image problem with the girls who visited me here as this place is certainly much better than their own.

But I have not found a post if they are guest friendly. On their home page, FAQ section, they write :

How many people can stay in one apartment?

Each apartment can accommodate a maximum of three people.

Does this mean they are guest friendly?

No, that does not mean they are guest friendly. I stayed at another Amari which is not girl friendly at all - the Amari Boulevard.

The Admiral Premier is a bit difficult, unless you know where its is and know the turns. How about coming from Nana Plaza via taxi? (With a giggling hottie from Rainbow 4 or Mandarin in your lap, of course.)

I should think the simplest route would be to head southeast on Sukhumvit to Asok, then turn left at that massive intersection under the BTS station. Then north on Asok, past Soi Cowboy, past the Grand Millennium to the first intersection (Sukhumvit Soi 21). Turn right there and head east to the third intersection. Then right one last time onto the dead end street when the hotel is located.

Does this sound right? If so, is there a landmark at the corner of Sukhumvit Soi 21 and the street on which the Admiral Premier is located?

Have seen little on it in here, other than "it is ok" or "it is GF"

I heard there is a club (or disco) in it.

Kind of venue like Brix under the Singapore' Hyatt.

Does anyone have any experience on that?

I feel it is going to be a high end (pricing) pick up joint (and maybe same girls coming from NEP)

Definite repeat business from me. I tried it a while back and didn't like it. The staff seemed very disinterested and unhelpful just for one thing. Also hard beds and very poor selection for breakfast. I believe Tansak KTV warned it was not as good as the other Citadines Hotels.

The nearby Admiral Premier is way better, IMHO, even if it may be slightly more expensive.

BunkyActually not quite. Its easier to turn left into Soi 23, pass Soi Cowboy, first on the right and first on the left. Real easy, less tricky, but each to their own.

What's the best option for Morning or afternoon sex? Somewhere that does not really take all your I'd and crap. More like a clean, no fuss Short time hotel (but not the regular dirty ST Rooms)

ThanksMaybe "The Strand" in Pat Pong. The best standard I have been to in mongering districts. Good place to take SOL girls to. But perhaps you want to be more location specific. There are large numbers of short-time Hotels. Aren't you in the Hotel business?

Can't be seen taking the girl back to your room? Yes I know, girls can be dangerous.

Hotel: Omni Tower, Soi 4.

Date of Reviewer's Stay: October 2010 (low season)

Website:

http://www.omnibangkok.com/

SUMMARY:

When I travel, I don't like to spend too much money on my room since my stays are normally short and I only use the room to sleep. Since I was staying longer than normal, I wanted a bigger room with more amenities. This was my first time at the Omni Tower and I was very satisfied. The room was clean, but the carpet was showing its age and the shower curtain was ripped, but that didn't detract from my stay. At less than US$50 per night, it was as cheap as other nearby 'budget' hotels, e. G, Nana Hotel, Dynasty Inn, Majestic Suite, but with much larger rooms and better amenities. At the price that I paid, I'the definitely would stay there again. Execllent Review. I was looking for something like this Yujin. Same purpose staying alone for more than a week going to spennd most time out and need a bed to crash and enjoy also. If it was with the family maybe a resort would do!

From the looks of it I would book my stay here. One thing am fussy about are the Bathrooms. Are they modern, eat and clean as I could notsee anything in your review on this!

Thanks again!

Thanks again! The bathroom is fairly basic with a tub and plastic / vinyl shower curtain, sink, and toilet. Everything is "Western." There's daily maid service that cleans the room. It's not a five-star hotel so don't get your expectations up too high; however, I found it much better than the Nana Hotel or similarly priced hotels.

I'm using the hotel for non P4P girls so can't really go to Patpong or some grubby ST Hotel. The Strand is in the not so grubby category. However most STs in the Suk locality are grubby, so I suggest you use an ordinary Hotel. There is no law against staying for short time. I'm sure LL could accomodate.

But if you are looking for a 5 star ST at a very cheap price I think you are deluded.

Non P4P are only cheap if you take them back to your room, and dine cheaply. How do you explain to the girl why you can't go to your room? Seems rather suspicious. Is there already another girl in the room? .

Just a retorical question.

Many the guy told the story that his own room is too messy and needs cleanup very badly. ;) Only the dumb girls would believe he couldn't get it cleaned up, when a hot girl is the potential reward.

Just checked out. This place was pretty good on the whole.

When I arrived at an ungodly hour the concierge was right there to help with bags. They allowed me to check in earlier than I had advised them I would arrive. This was great as otherwise I would have been stuck waiting until 2pm.

I had company come pretty soon after that and nothing was said about it. Actually I had one stay over with me. Yet I was not charged extra for this. We walked out together in the morning but still it was ok. Maybe things have changed?

Out of ten I would give the following ratings:

Customer service: 9.

Friendliness: 8.

Security: 9 (just really good)

Appearance: 8.

As I said in the beginning things were on the whole pleasing. I would recommend them to others.

Stayed (or should I say, staying) at the premier inn. Just as past reports suggest, the place is a bit run down. But the AC works, Has a frigdge for your alcohol, and pretty much does the job, all for 800 baht a night. If you book it through a website you obviously have to pay the booking fee to the middle man, which makes it roughly 900 baht. So I booked it for only 2 days to see if I would like it at 900 baht, and now I'm paying 800 baht per night which is their usual rate. I pretty much kept my valuables on me when I left so I wasn't too worried about them taking anything out of my bags while I was gone. They do, however, offer saftey deposit boxes at the front desk. I didn't get one because I didn't want to riske them seeing all the valuables I put in there and then hand it back to them. It's dual key (meaning they need your key along with their master key to open it) , but I'm skeptical of there being another key around. I don't mean that I didn't trust them, its just, I didn't want to take the risk. So I ended up taking my stuff with me which (as most might say) could be very risky as well.

I chose the place because it's within walking distance of soi cowboy and the massage places like, mangos, pink, oranges, angel, and many many others (like right in the middle) and also because it was cheap enough. It's not that I'm cheap charlie or whatever but I just wanted to save money since I'm traveling across southeast asia and I like to make my money last while only occasionally splurging.

Ratings:

Apperance: 3 (obviously)

Friendliness: 10 the staff always had a smile.

Room service: ummm. I don't know. Basic. 5 I guess. The came in and did the job.

Security: 8,

Customer service:no complaints there, the staff was happy to answer my questions.

All in all I might use it again, but I would definitely shop first to see other cheap, conveniently located places. Himalaya inn / residence had a quote online for 600 baht, but they were booked, so you might want to reserve way ahead of time.

Guys, any recommendations as to a hotel that's near the airport as I land at midnight & leave at 8am.

Ideally I'd like to arrange to have an escort meet me at the hotel or would it be more sensible to just get a cab to a massage palour? And if so, which is the closest one to the airport that's good?

Thanks,

Novotel in the airport area does not seem to offer any entertainment and outcalling an escort will cost you a fortune in logistic.

You may want to go to town, Soi 4 Nana plaza, pick up a freelancer and have a couple of hours of fun in a nearby ST hotel. All in all is probbaly the best option.

They also have a BEST WESTERN not far.

My advice: Don't waste your time in Traffic and all that crap. Book a Mango girl to your hotel that way you maximise the time with her. Don't waste your time and money in Taxis.

By the time you get to Nana Plaza in Cab = 400 thb.

ST Hotel = 400Thb.

Lady for ST = 2, 000 thb (1 shot)

Taxi Back = 400 thb

TOTAL = 3, 200 thb.

Takeout From Mango for All night = 3, 000.

This hotel is very near the airport and is quite decent (their Double Rooms are good value for money at 1000 baht per night). The rooms are clean and modern, not very large, but not too small either (though, the bathroom is small in the "Double Room", with just a shower and no bathtub). No joiner fee there if your room is at least a "Double Room".

One can find a few bars and nightclubs in the vicinity (check their "Local Entertainment" section) , but it's nothing comparable with NEP or Soi Cowboy, of course.

This hotel has everything I need for about 50 $/night :

As reported earlier in this threat it is guest friendly and it is close to Soi Cowboy (5-10 minutes walk).

Also has a good pool area, free WiFi, good breakfast and the rooms are nice with good matress and free coffee / mineral water. Breakfast is incuded in a. M. Rate.

The only negative point, if any at all, is the location. It is in a side street of Soi 23 and it's quite dark when you lurch back from Soi Cowboy. Maybe not recommendable for newbies, but no problem for experienced mongers.

Hi all,

I might have to transit in Bangkok for a night but I might think of extending 2-3 nights depends.

But I was there last year during April and hotels in BKK were 2-3 times more expensive as compared to Pattaya.

Also the bars were selling drinks at 200 baht up although in Pattaya there were bars which offered drinks as cheap as 80 baht I'm talking about gogos or even some of the bars.

Have the prices gone down this year?

Take the Grand Millenium deal as mentioned by the other poster (good price) , would be my advice. Its only a short taxi ride from Nana (at night when no traffic jams). In day time could catch BTS. Try out Soi Cowboy as well as Nana. I will try it again, but generally I am totally bored by Nana Plaza.

-Very Girl friendly. The staff smiles at you nicely no matter who you come with.

-Nice floor to ceiling mirror by the bed as Barko mentioned. No mirror facing the bed however, quite a pity.

-Backside entrance allows you to bypass the lobby and go straight to the lift if you are shy or want to bring multiple girls, which in theory isn't allowed but in practice should not be a problem

Concur that the Grand Millennium is super convenient to Soi Cowboy, and that the entrance off Soi 23 is more private than the entrance off Asok. But be aware that Soi 23 gets pretty dark at night and the sidewalks are narrow to nonexistent in places. So if you're sweetie is teetering on hooker heels she might prefer the walk along Asok, where the sidewalk is flat and wide. Coming in the hotel's main entrance you'll definitely encounter the staff. But as others have noted, the Grand Millennium is 100 percent girl friendly. So no worries.

Here's my review of the Grand Millennium from last December, along with a ton of photos:

GM charge for the internet per day is steep, e. g. 500 Baht. Admiral Premier has free internet but ISG and some other sites disabled. Can use free wifi in a few pubs and cafes, but its slow in some, and inconvenient.

I bought an Aircard (USB plug in) that in capable of 3G (or Edge). True has 3G SIMs but only if you have an ongoing monthly account. Others with top-up SIMs you have to use the slower Edge service, but I found was good enough for my work VPN connection and also for ISG use, etc.

Their are various use packages available like several hours (non-continuous) , or 1 day unlimited, or one month unlimited, etc.

If you are a frequent visitor to Thailand, or spend a lot of time, but don't have a really reliable internet connection that is cheap, then getting one of these cards is a good option in the long run. I'm using it right now.

Chill Out
04-07-11, 20:18
Or if you stay in a hotel where ISG is blocked, you could buy a VPN. I recommend strongvpn.com for about 60 or 80 bucks a year, depending on the plan. You can then use your fast internet hotel connection (instead of slower 3G) to access whatever you want.

VPNs are also useful (some would say, required) to protect your data confidentiality whenever you are surfing on wifi networks in public places (cafés etc). It's very easy for someone to intercept your passwords and access your gmail, facebook etc if you don't have one. Very easy. So everyone should have a VPN anyway.

If you want a real 5 star in BKK, then there isn't one on Sukhumvit.

-Is the hotel Girl friendly? Search this thread, or if there is a sentence in the description such as "a 3 mins walk from Soi Cowboy", I'm pretty confident it means yes.

-Some hotels pad up their base prices. Hotel Solo for example is selling their basic room at 2167 baths, with the normal rate quoted at 4000, when in fact I've booked that room for 2200 on their site.

At least with normal listings you can check the veracity of the discount (if you want to spend the time) ; you can't do that on secret deals. And normal listings are sometimes more interesting.

It also depends what you consider 5 stars. Even the GM is described as 5 stars on wotif. And it ain't, really. The JW though, I would think is 5 stars. On most of these websites, the hotel's stars are Self rates. So a guesthouse could be seen as a 4 star in Wotif because they decide themselves.

The JW is a great 4 star but for Asia, it's not a 5 star. They might rate themselves as 5 star but they aren't.

There really are 2 distinct tiers of 5-stars in Asia. In my opinion, the JW is of the same class as the Sheraton Grande, Conrad, and the Plaza Athenee. That makes it a 5* to me. Now it's not in the class of the Peninsula, Shangri-La, Sukhothai or the Four Seasons, which are the upper tier of 5* places, but it's right there with anything else.

Excluding the Mandarin Oriental. A place that I personally rank as a 1-star based upon their obnoxious attitude. And I wouldn't stay there if it were the last hotel in Bangkok with rooms, and they offered me a half-price rate.

I've stayed in a few JW's though not in BKK and your right, they are quite good, well appointed and certainly high end. BUT, since the rating / star system tops out at 5 then I would have to degrade the JW to a 4 bearing in mind that a 5 star property is the ABSOULTE FINEST lodging experience on earth. By way of example, the suite I rent at the Peninsula comes with a 24 hour butler (whose language skills, soothing Thai manner and discretion I have on more that one occasion made use of). I don't believe the JW's offer that level of service.

Interesting observation concerning the Mandarin Orintal! I've Never stayed in one but I am often in or passing through the one across the river from the Peninsula in BKK. Excellent smoke shop with the best selection of Cubans I've seen anywhere in BKK (though definitely not reasonably priced) and there is a little bank branch off the side soi (Ayuda, I think) that has excellent x-change rates. But the place is like one large movie set with a 50's theme. The pool is an eyedropper of water on a postage stamp and the staff often appears preoccupied. I don't personally see the attraction. In addition, and the thing that I find most bizarre, is that the drivers at the Peninsula tell me that the Oriental is not chica friendly and that they are somewhat proud of it. The only other hotel in BKK that I know of that is actually anti-chica is the Atlanta on Suk. Soi 2.

Here is the Atlanta's web site warning:

The Atlanta is popular with cultured occidentals, with writers, academics, artists, cinema & theatre and other professional people, with dreamers and innocuous eccentrics, and their families, who can afford to stay at more expensive places but choose to stay at The Atlanta.

The Atlanta has a 'zero tolerance' policy with regard to trouble-makers and all illegal activities, including the use or possession of illicit drugs. Such miscreants are reported to the police without advance warning, without hesitation and without apology.

Those who object to this policy, and those who wish to spend their time in Thailand whoring, indulging in alcohol abuse, drugs or other illegal activities should stay elsewhere.

The Atlanta is against sex tourism.

Sex tourism is exploitative, socially damaging and culturally demeaning:

I think that we can simply agree that the overall caliber of high-end chain hotels in such Asian cities as Bangkok or Hong Kong is a class above what one sees elsewhere, and that places like the JW and the SG are the equal of 5 stars elsewhere, while the MOST deluxe places in BKK or HKG such as the Peninsula in either place warrant elevation to an even more elite level. Effectively a sixth star, if you will.

Places like the Landmark and the Majestic Grande and Millenium Grande are 4*s. And they are nowhere near as nice as the JW. Although there's nothing notably wrong with them, they are comparable to your average U.S. urban Marriott.

A 5 star in the USA would not even cut it as a 5 star here (well, seeing as you put the JW as a 5 star, maybe it could).

Most these hotels are self rated and make you believe they are 5 star. While they are of High standard, I would and this is my professional opinion, classify the JW, Sheraton Grande, Westin and the likes a 4star+

If you want to see what a 5 star is, then visit the EUGENIA on soi 31. Ok, it's very small, but when you stay there, they know who you are and what you like, they know how you like your coffee, how you like your bed made and which brand of chocolates you want at turndown or what you need in your fruit basket in your room when you arrive.

Can JW or one of the other factories do that? Don't think so.

5 star isn't just about the Room and hotel product, it is also about service.

It seems likely that JW here is similar to JW in the USA as far as standard goes, maybe smaller.

You can't go having 5 star being completely different standards in different countries. It has lost enough meaning already. I think you are needing a higher category for Hotels here that exceed the typical world wide 5 star standard.

Maybe there should be 6 star (or 5 star plus) Hotel categories for those that far surpass the normal 5 star standard. I presume places like Shangri La and Oriental are in special categories for service and price.

I have no idea exactly what is considered to make the typical 5 star standard since obviously some things important to yourself and others are not important to me. If you claim a 5 star rated Hotel is not really 5 star, you should indicate on what criteria they are failing to make the grade. Some objectivity is needed. I am not disagreeing but merely curious to know why they fail to be 5 star, and therefore presumably a waste of money if also expensive.

I am staying in a small Hotel, the Admiral Premier which is very good for the price (way below your 4K) and very modern with well equiped comfotable rooms, but it obviously cannot be compared to top Hotels as doesn't even have a business centre and I guess no conferencing facilities, ballroom etc. and only 1 Cafe. They did print some documents for me, however. Its probably 3 and half stars at best, but I like special things like the large Samsung refridgerator with super cold freezer in the kitchenette where I can keep a tub of ice-cream in perfect condition. Breakfast and Internet free (of course). This place is convenient in may ways. I wonder if a 5 star hotel would give a large refridgerator with freezer. Perhaps this place is more like small serviced apartment accomodation rather than normal Hotel style.

I would really be interested however in knowing the story behind this unusual hotel – the people (owners) , client base and the history of this prurient posture. Also on the forbidden list is 'pop' music and violent movies!

Also interesting is the phrase 'Le patron mange ici' mixed in. It is the only hint of French on the whole website I'm guessing it's a throwback (as is everything else about this place) but I've never heard it before. Maybe Nic knows its nature.

Well, I am French and so far, have never seen it in any French restaurant located in my native country.

Actually, this expression seems to be more popular... in England (Tony Blair, for instance, used it)! It's not unusual for other countries to use French expressions and vocabulary, especially about gastronomy and cuisine. In France, we also use English expressions ("Wait and see", for instance) and even some words or expressions which are not actually correct in English (or that don't have the same meaning) but that sounds like English words or expressions ("smoking" instead of "tuxedo", "relooking" instead of "makeover", "rugbyman" instead of "rugby player", etc.). Well... "C'est la vie!" ;)

i found one good description here (http://www.cerf-resort.com/hotelstarratings.html):

"a five-star hotel is characterised by luxury appointments, superlative service, and the highest standards of comfort. five-star hotels offer originality in architecture and interior design, high-grade materials in construction and décor, and such special touches as fresh flowers and plants in abundance. these properties also maintain a high staff-to-guest ratio, gourmet dining, and 24-hour room service.
guestrooms offer ample space, the finest furnishings and decor, premium bedding, and luxury bath products. room amenities generally include high-speed internet access and cd and/or dvd players. five-star resorts may offer additional recreation facilities such as tennis courts and golf-course access. on-site spa services, a top-notch fitness centre, and a pool are generally available, as well."

by the way, you may want to read this webpage too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/star_(classification)

It also depends what you consider 5 stars. The GM is described as 5 stars on WOTIF. It ain't, really. The JW though, I would think is 5 stars. The last time I stayed at the Grand Millennium I was able to book a package deal through Agoda, which included a very nice room with a killer view on the club floor, which entitled me to access to the club lounge and free internet. The folks in the club lounge were just terrific. Every morning at breakfast they greeted me warmly and fussed over my every desire. The chef made my eggs exactly to order. During the middle of the day they were only to happy to fill my ice bucket, which saved me the hassle of calling room service. (A couple of times one of the girls even slipped me a can of Diet Coke to go, even though all drinks are supposed to be consumed in the lounge.) The evening reception was a civilized way to tune up with a cocktail or two prior to heading out on the town, and to meet some people who were far more knowledgeable about the city than I. And when it came time to check out I was able to handle the formalities in the lounge while two bellmen whisked my luggage down to the car.

Does all of that rate five stars? Perhaps not. The room, while nice, was on the small side. I would have preferred a little more space, extra storage and refrigerator. The towel supply was rather modest, and for some reason there was no place to hang the wet towels if you wanted to re-use them. I suppose I could have called room service for a fresh set, but that's a bother.

That said, I think true five star hotels in Bangkok are going to be FAR more expensive that the Grand Millennium. I paid USD $169 per night all-in last December, about 5,000 baht. Booking a more lavish hotel would have cost me another $100 per day, so I didn't see the value. Finally, I think that Grand Millennium's location, so very close to Soi Cowboy, has to factor into the decision of anybody reading this forum. That's got to be worth at least half a star.

http://www.internationalsexguide.info/forum/showthread.php?1031-Hatyai-Reports&p=1112624&viewfull=1#post1112624I tend to agree too.

For many reasons girls indulge in the old profession not for reason striclty linked to (economical) desperation.

Example #1:33 yo girl, speaks and write fairly understandable english. Sends all the money (anything new here?) to her family in cenral Thailand. To the point that sometime she is really short of money in BKK (anything new here?). She gets bar salary and appr 3K for ea. LT: Should end up with a nearly fair income.

By my understanding she could possibly get a job as a store salesgirl in a tourist area (decent english) or, e. G, BKK airport shops.

Why does she keep the WG job? God knows (I do not take it easily, of course, maybe she tried and failed)

Example #2:32 yo from Isaan- Does rounds in Singapore@OT. Admits working there a month is equal to 6 month work in homeland. Not far from that schedule. Spends money in phones, home theater for parents home, and other bits and pieces. She has a Black berry (good, give me your email, as the primary function of BB is easy mail,"sorry no have email, no good writing english!) and an I-phone bought 2nd hand in SIN ("can you please set it in thai as it is in english, vendor saked me 35SD to set it". I-phone seems a good tool for her photos (she snaps them and sees them, what else do you want from life?)

Definetely spending all what she earns or about.

Basic english. Could she do something else more legitimate? Ehmmm why? She works a bunch of weeks and earns to live another bunch doing nothing (and spending the earning) , no need of working 8-10 hrs a day 6-7 days a week for 12months in a shop or whatever.

Being WG has advantages. And for those enjoying sex (they both do enjoy it). Ideal situation: being paid and have fun!

Nic,

Maybe there should be 6 star (or 5 star plus) Hotel categories for those that far surpass the normal 5 star standard. I presume places like Shangri La and Oriental are in special categories for service and price. The special category in which I place the Bangkok Mandarin Oriental would be 1* for having the most arrogant, elitist, obnoxious attitude behind their service of any hotel establishment on this planet that I am aware of. It is pervasive enough that it must be trained and encouraged to have achieved this level of snobbery across the board. As I stated before, I would not stay there if they were the last hotel in Bangkok with rooms, and they were offering a half-price special. To put this place in the same category as the Peninsula, Shangri-La, Sukhothai and Four Seasons, which are the places that I consider to be truly deluxe in Bangkok is sheer absurdity.

Also I RESPECTFULLY disagree with you that most Thais are 'forced' into sex for a living.Yes "forced" was a poor choice of words. Many Thai girls in the game were previously sufferring economic hardship. One girl, whose father had died, was doing straight massage outside Bangkok and earning 50 Baht per massage session with maybe the odd 20 Baht tip. Real Thai massage is hard work. She managed to make about 4-5K per month, or just 150 Baht per day (perhaps that was after paying for something to eat). After you pay a share of the rent, transport, and eat, there is nothing left to help support her mother etc. So while not literally "forced" into prostitution, the lure of making more than 10 times as much money per month is too great.

I would certainly sell my body to women if I was going to earn several times my current salary. No question about it! Its merely that we don't have this option. Some Thai girls, who have serious moral issues, do not go for prostitution, but put up with their measly monthly wage and suffer great hardship. Others are just not good looking enough to be able to sell their bodies successfully.

Sorry to those wishing to read about Hotels in this thread.

Hi, hope this is the right place to post this.

I'm visiting Bangkok in June for about three weeks, and I'm looking for an apartment (can't afford a hotel for that long, and prefer the freedom). Somewhere with good facilities and security guards with excellent selective blindness skills, able to take an I'd card while looking the other way. Central location would be nice. If anyone has any recommendations, whether for specific apartments, residences or agencies, I'd be very grateful.

I had a basic room for about 1500 bath, having seen the basic room at the Asok Furama, I thought it was a good deal, but over there it isn't.

I wouldn't recommend the place. The room feels a bit too basic-cheap, although at night with the lights dimmed it's alright. It's deep within the soi. It is fairly close to Nana though. And free internet. But there are better places out there.

Pros: Nice rooftop pool. Nice staff. Somewhat cheap with a special deal. 1850 a night for a Premier Studio (their bigger studio at 38 sqm). Close to Cowboy. Close to both BTS and MRT Asoke-Sukhumvit stations.

Cons: Low floors with special deal. Upgrades too expensive (4K a day, no thank you). Your "balcony" is useless. Views are crap.

Most awful though, there are NO MIRRORS in those rooms. There is a mirror as big as my torso hung high in the room. No other mirror except in the bathroom. So if you are a visual person like me, you won't get to see much of your action here. I've stayed in much cheaper rooms that all had a full length mirror on a closet door or something. Not here. This for me disqualifies the place for mongering purposes.

I didn't look into it too much because I needed to get going; but I'm not a fan of this kind of practices. On Wotif they don't fuck around like that. Many websites showcase prices excluding Taxes, Latestays (same company as Wotif BTW) , Agoda, Expedia (for the biggest).

For me, you'd have to be clueless to book any of these sites, because you need to prepay everything upfront.

Booking. Com does not ask you for money upfront and you just need a credit card to guarantee the booking. Prices are the same as all other major sites so no surcharge.

Expedia is horrible IMHO as I have bad experiences. To receive local services you have to book thru their local branch. If you book thru their US site, then if you have problems locally you are SOL.

Another site with no prepay is Asia Travel. No pre-pay is best as there is no penalty if plans change at last minute.

I have mixed feelings about it.

This was exactly my reaction when I first checked into AP in February. I had made reservations for one of the Grand Suites (55sq meters) and I specifically requested a high floor. They gave me a Grand Suite on the 2nd floor with a beautiful view of a Condo parking lot a few feet away. I complained politely at check in, but was told there was nothing they could do because they were booked solid. I put up with it for 5 days, but I did not like the room even though everything else about the hotel was fine. Free WiFi and complimentary breakfasts were a plus. The room was spacious and I liked having an entertainment room that was separate from the bed room. The view from the windows was depressing however, like a basement apartment. I kept the curtains drawn.

I went to Phnom Penh and Kampot for a week while storing my big suitcase with AP. In Penh, I thought about canceling my 2nd reservation with AP, but I did not. Upon my return to BKK, I was informed at check in, that I was being given a complimentary upgrade to the Admiral Suite (the largest suite) and it was on the 6th floor. The higher floor made a big difference. The studio seemed brighter and more airy. I kept the curtains open. The sliding glass door onto the balcony had screens, which is a very big deal. At night, I slept with the windows open, no bugs. In addition, in the bigger bathroom which had a separate bath tub (good for playtime with the girls); there was a washing machine.

I have mixed feelings about it.

I like mirrors too, but only when I am shagging, so it is not that big a deal for me. The bad views on the lower floors were a big deal. Otherwise, I liked the hotel a lot. Next trip, I will make my reservations with Admiral Premier contingent on getting a room on a high floor. If AP cannot guarantee a high floor, I will go elsewhere.

Note: I believe only the Admiral Suites (65 sq meters) face the street and all other rooms face the Condo. So your view will suck unless you reserve the Admiral Suite. You guys can confirm this or not. Thanks.

Wasn't worried about the lack of view at all, as was working on Computer when in room, or screwing or sleeping, and otherwise spent time outside. Bedroom had a massive mirror, not that it was that much use other than checking out if my waistline was making any progress in the right direction. Forgot to position the girl correctly to get porno views. :(

I would say that higher floors are definitely better for the limited view. I am quite satisfied that it is hard to do better than this for the price. Bed is not quite as soft as I would like. Other weakness is shower over bath and no seperate shower booth. This is not a big deal if water drains correctly rather than flooding the floor.

No Hotel is total perfection in this price bracket. We have to be realistic. The Grand Millenium is better with fantastic bed mattresses for a higher price but then you have to start paying for extras like internet, DVD player, and get the normal shitty little fridge.

I would say Agoda's weakness is not including the tax surcharges in the quoted price. That is where Wotif is better (they don't include the booking fee) , but they often have "no refund" conditions attached to their deals. I am willing to look at booking.com to see if they are price competitive and give instant confirmation of bookings. I can't tolerate some sites that take too much time to confirm if can get a room or not.

On occasions recently, Agoda's Hotel pages have had redirection errors that made it impossible to get the rates for a particular hotel and book it. E. G. Admiral Premier. Was frustrating. Kept asking to enter my dates when had already done so and would redirect me to all Bangkok Hotels list again.

I'm paying 1100 + taxes through Agoda (total about 1500) , and it was similar or slightly less through Bookings. Com.

The advantage for me is that Agoda doesn't identify the hotel on your credit card statement (and you can charge in your home currency) , plus you are awarded points which rack up quite quickly for a good discount.

I have been a great fan of Wotif, but I find it generally more expensive than Agoda.

I just spent a couple of nights at Le Meridien Hotel on Surawong Road. I would rate this hotel 4++ stars (with a 5 being subjectively unattainable in BKK it seems).

Very nice hotel all around. Great breakfast buffet. Friendly helpful staff. Good chocolate. ;)

Le Meridien is almost directly across the street from the Patpong entertainment district, and is directly across from JC Massage.

Although I was with a friend, for future reference (for the Team), I checked with the concierge and the hotel is guest friendly. They don't even check IDs unless you want them to.

I booked the "secret deal" on Wotif the morning of the first night. 3500 baht per night (including breakfast for two).

Coming from Europe, I suck at tipping.

Tipping in hotels.

How do you do it?

When do you do it?

How much do you give?

Do you tip people early? On a daily basis?

How do you tip front desk people, who are often the most helpful and the most able to help and affect your stay, but who are usually in a team of 2 or 3 or 4? How do you tip discreetly without them losing face or getting in trouble?

Fire away your hotel tipping tips, please!

For me, I usually (when on business) not stay in places below 4, 000 thb, I am used to the service and amenities.

Actually, the 2 places I stayed at in Bangkok below 4, 000 thb were:

1. The Solo Hotel sukh. Soi 2 (I loved it there, but the room was small) Paid 1, 800 including Breakfast.

2. Town Lodge Sukh. Soi 18 (same as Toxic Club). Paid 2, 500 for their Jacuzzi suite and it was quite nice

I would have liked to tip, I just didn't know how. It seemed rude to slap a note on the desk. There was no way to pass a note without the rest of the staff noticing and I didn't know if that was ok.

Tipping front desk folks seems especially useful because they control the upgrades...

... Tipping in hotels...
NicFrenchy already indicated some good tips (pun intended). I will add that it also depends on your hotel category. For instance, I am a bit less generous than NicFrenchy, but nowadays, I usually stay in much cheaper hotels than him. So, my tips are about half his (that's 40 or 50 baht for the luggage porters for instance, a bit more if my luggage are really heavy or numerous).

I always tip the security guard(s) at least once at the beginning of my stay (the amount depends on the length of my stay, among other criteria, but 100 or 200 baht is already a good tip to begin with). I might tip him/them again during my sojourn if he is/they are particularly helpful.

For the front desk, it really depends. If they have been helpful, I tip them at the end of my stay (again, it depends on many criteria, but a few hundreds is enough usually for the whole desk staff to share between them). I also tip the maids (for instance, if I need some extra towels...) reasonably (about 50 baht usually per maid for a whole short stay).

If you are not comfortable with directly giving some money to the person who helped you (it's not a problem in Thailand usually, but I can understand your embarrassment), you might offer this person a (reasonable) gift, or something for the whole desk staff at the end of your stay. For instance, good quality chocolates are (relatively) expensive in Thailand, and are usually much appreciated by the locals.

Chill Out
04-12-11, 10:39
Noted on the chocolate or gift idea, thanks. There is a similar "gift culture" going on in China so you can give stuff without them losing face (one of the reasons why luxury watches sell so well! Greasing the wheels for business deals...)

For hotels, I would rather go with money though. I don't want to spend time shopping and carrying stuff for hotel staff if I can avoid it. I can see it being a good idea (on top of cash maybe) if you are a regular in a given hotel, for that special touch, but not in my current situation.

So how do you give a few hundreds to the frontdesk for example? Describe the process in painstaking detail, please! ;) I have no problem adapting to cultures, so if you tell me it's perfectly a-ok to slap it on the desk and say "here you go buddy", then I'll do that twice and be comfortable with it. I just need to know how and I'll get in the groove.

One more question: why tip the security guards? I don't need them to avoid LBs (until that fateful day when I'll be proven wrong ;) ) and so far I've had 0 physical drama with girls, not even a hint of anything that would require security assistance.

Especially when you're not sick?

Security guards can be very helpful, and I mean VERY helpful in certain situations. What if you bring 2 or 3 ladies and the hotel's policy is to have only 1 joiner per room? What if something goes wrong with your girl and she starts arguing and creating a fuss? Security guards are your friends. They will let you be when you need to and help with trouble when needed.

If you don't tip them, why should they help you or get involved?

Put the baht in an envelope (supplied in the room) , write "front desk tip" on it, and give it to the prettiest front desk clerk. Repeat if necessary. ;)

Tip security guards? Why not? Everybody who works in the hospitably business appreciates a tip. Hell, they probably only make 250-300 baht a day in wages.

Last night, a woman shined my shoes while I was drinking at a Patpong beer bar. She initially asked for 100 baht. I said how about 60, she said OK. When finished, the shoes looked good so I paid the 60 + a 20 baht tip. That's how it works here in Thailand.

It's a game, man, just a game.

Usually, in Thailand, I pay my hotel bills in cash. So, depending on the amount of the change, I might just leave the whole change or add a few hundreds to it, saying to the cashier that it's a tip for the whole desk staff. That's as easy as this, mate!

Why do you pay insurance for your car, your home, etc.? Actually, you know that shit can happen sometimes. In my case, I explain them that I want to have a courtesy phone call to my room before letting my guest(s) leaving the hotel without me. In my own experience, it's better to ask this also to the security guards (not only to the front desk) as they are usually more reliable for these things (even if they don't make the call themselves, they will check that it has been done before letting your guests leave the hotel without you).

For the chambermaid, if I have any left over unopened bottles of beer, Spy or soft drinks or a few sweets then I give them (or leave them) for the room maid.

Last time I had a large bottle of Chang left over when I was due to leave. I made one chambermaid a VERY happy lady!

It costs (us) so little but can make (to them) a HUGE difference!

Oh yes, perhaps I should mention that I have, in the past, screwed 2 of the young, trainee “front desk” girls and 1 rather sweet young chambermaid. All freebees!!
So, perhaps you could think of these “little gifts” as possible investments for the future!

In my experience, and I was working in 4/5 star hotels before, the best way to leave a housekeeping tip is to leave it on the bed not made up. Housekeeping the world over know that is a tip. I just dunped all my coins there when I checked out and a couple of baht each day. 300 or something total.

Well, unless you stay in small hotels, but 4 and 5 star hotels have very strict policies about this.

Me Where you want go now?

She Can not go your room!

Me No problem, can find Short time room!

She OK!

Oh yes, one of them, I think it was the young chambermaid, wanted me to take her to see an 'upstairs SEX show' in Patpong. She had heard about them but never been! As she said 'Thai lady can not go, but with Farrang is OK! '

On the topic of tipping, what follows has nothing to do with Thailand but would like to share it here nonetheless.

Checking out of Cebu Parklane hotel in the Phils, I'd left half a bottle of Bacardi Reserva on the table. I always leave behind booze for the bell hops (over and above the 100 Php or so that I tip them and the chambermaids). The bell hop who came to help me with my bags politley asked for it, and I told him ofcourse he could have it. We compared notes on booze prices in the middle east with the Phils on our way down. As I was settling my dues with the (hot) front desk staff. He returned with a blank paper and requested me to write down that I had gifted him the booze, along with his name and my signature. He was very grateful, and thanked me again for it, publicly (a bit embarassing for me). This was the only time any hotel staff has asked for a written acknowledgement for a gift / tip. Probably this hotel has policies against staff accepting gifts. Although I haven't experienced it on my previous stays here. Would recommend this place to anyone who visits Cebu. Extremely GF, upmarket 4 star place. Much better value than the Mariott.

Stayed in Le Meridien. Cool hotel, designer stuff. Good service, good food, and company had a great meeting package. At night, Patpong is a few steps away. Had some fun nights there. Invited two girls back to hotel. No problem, but you have to pick them up from the lobby, they're not allowed to go up by themselves. Great fun indeed. One shy cuty and one sexy smiley. Don't you luv Thailand?

I'm just going there first time on June and were looking for nice hotel with bigger modern rooms and reasonable price.

Any suggestions?

Any suggestions? GL, as far as I know, a Soi is a side street off from a main throughfare. There are thousands and thousands of "Soi" all over Bangkok.

You need to read the forum and some other sources some more until you are a little more informed about the scene, then come back and ask questions that make sense.

Good luck and have fun!

Any suggestions? I always stay at the President Palace Soi 11/Sukhumvit on the Executive floor. Modern hotel in a good location (between Nana and Soi Cowboy) including breakfast. GF. They just check the girls I'd (which I think is a good thing).

I just booked the Wotif Mystery Deal for 999 baht and it's the Le Fenix.

A quick search in this forum suggests that it may not be GF.

I did book for 2. Can anyone say for sure that they were charged a joiner fee when they booked for 2 here?

Unless something has changed, I think you can bring a lady back to your room directly from the first level without scrutiny. If you are stopped by a security guard, I imagine a 100 baht tip should more than take care of it.

It fits with results of my search in this thread after I discovered the details of the Mystery Deal. I still think it will be good value at 999 per night. Includes wifi in the room and Mouse reported that it worked ok for him.

If I do have a problem I'll also try showing the booking confirmation that lists 2 guests.

And if push comes to shove I'll definitely use this forum to make it clear they are not guest friendly. Stand by for details. I check in on Wed. 4-27

I certainly appreciate your point as I am a card carrying pragmatist (and am myself a 'do whatever it takes' individual) but I have no problem with cultural diversity even when the values differ from mine and I rarely if ever tell others what they should or should not do if they are not bothering anyone (which they don't appear to be here) – live and let live. Also I RESPECTFULLY disagree with you that most Thais are 'forced' into sex for a living. I think that's too easy an excuse as I think its just the fastest and easiest path and that's what human nature usually takes – most people are very lazy, lets face it, but that's their choice and their culture and if its what they choose then its fine with me but that is a different discussion.

Maybe Nic knows its nature.German from America started it, and think he was from Atlanta. Married a local. King has played his Sax there, movie stars, authors etc frequented the place etc, all happened in 1950's. First hotel with swimming pool in Thailand etc. Swimming pool now a swamp. Son of founder carries on fathers tradition of being down on sex tourists. He is walking around premises and threatens to call the police if anyone walks in with a ho'. Family very big in TAT, used to be anyway. Be warned Katamites are not tolerated either. See huge sign to this effect and all other prohibited things persons prominently displayed on the wall. Huge sign at front door Sex Tourists Not Allowed, and so on. Go there, have a snack, and read all about it, but do not fart, you could be imprisoned. Unreal, living in the past. Plenty of background evidence for public reading. I am sure even the good people feel threatened staying there. Bad people do not get a chance. Staff infected and obey their Leader. Service rather stiff. German discipline gone awry. Quite a contrast to Livingstones Lodge, don't you think.

C4TSo far so good. They let me check in at 08:30 and the written policy in the room states.

"The hotel does not levy an additional charge for overnight guests" and goes on to say that they collect the I'd card, etc.

The room is quite OK for the money. Just about exactly what I got at Citadines Soi 8 for about 500 baht less.

You don't know what you're going to get. Honestly after a while you get them figured out, within your price range. Especially as a resident.

You can also book one night to check out what hotel it is, and book more nights after if you like it. You only pay 125 baths extra doing this (for booking in 2 steps instead of one, you pay the wotif tax twice).

You go on Holidays to a country and cook your own food? Wow, I would never do that. Better go to a restaurantOn principle. Yes.

But one can also cook some breakfast, a light meal, use the microwave and have a "freshluy made" hamburger (LMAO!). Sometime I am fed up of restaurants, their timings, the nerd to chose from a menu that, at the end of the day, offers you two real choices as the other 10 are not your taste anyhow.

I often take room service in the hotel for that reason: boring and said to eat alone in a crowded (or non crowded) restaurant.

Sometime we eat for the pleasure of doing so and sometime we eat jsut for feeding ourselves.

When I first took my job with much travel, I said I would never eat in my room or even in the hotel where I stayed, but would always go out and eat local food. It's worked for me. I don't have any problem eating on my own in a crowded restaurant, get to eat some great or unusual food, often meet some interesting folk, and have a few little adventures on the way.

I will confess that India is a challenge though. :(

Sorry spelling error, Catamite, not Katamite.

And I remember now, on menu, it says "non residents not allowed to eat in Restaurant".

Foyer from 1950's is something special. A time warp, to an era long gone. Highlight of the place. Food is good, I have eaten there without being a resident and survived.

Have a geek at the first hotel swimming pool in Thailand, ground floor, behind foyer. Pools have come a long way since then. The bamboo swamp surrounding it is in contrast to the impeccable foyer.

Whilst there, perhaps approach stiff Front Desk staff and ask them is there a Joiner Fee.

Nice place for a bunch of ISG members to have a Christmas party with their favourite ho's?

There is a suggestion box too. German manager / owner clears it and reads suggestions from the good people who stay at his place. It's in the foyer, I have contributed to it, but haven't returned since, LOL.

I stayed at Citadines Soi 8 last year for 1400 Baht per night for a studio apartment with large flatscreen TV & DVD player, small kitchen, fridge, microwave & unlimited internet access. I hardly cooked but it's great to have a microwave & fridge for late night or late morning snacks. I also liked having free use of a small gym & pool on the property.

The hotel staff was great. The price is still the same 1400 baht per night for 3 night stay at Citadines Soi 11. Book multiples of the "Bangkok Getaway Package – 3 Nights for the Price of 2" to extend the great price until July 31 2011. http://www.citadines.com/en/promotions/bangkok_getaway.html

I've booked my stay at Citadines Soi 11 for late May. It's only 1 block over from the Bier Garten! http://www.bkk-gui.de/bee_eng_f.htm

I stayed at both the Citadines and the Solo Hotel and I would agree that at those rates (1400 or 1500) they are excellent deals. I didn't even find the walk to Solo to be a problem at all, it isn't far from Nana. I paid 2100 for that Solo room just a few weeks ago (I think with a wotif deal too, but I can't remember for sure), so 1500 is excellent.

There are many recommendations for LL in this forum. It is only fair if I can add to that as it was so good and appropriate for such trips and I enjoyed it. So I like to share.

1. Good bed and big bath.

2. Good internet – You need them to make appointment or search

3. Very Good food.

4. Many housekeeping rounds to get fresh towels in a day. You need them if you have in room sessions.

5. Can have breakfast even at 12 Noon – you need them after a long night outing or long night action.

6. A calming place to cool your nerve after hot octane sessions and roaming.

7. Wonderful people in the hotel to serve you.

The best I have seen in around the world.

Does anyone know the procedure for an outcall from Mango to a hotel.

Do I have to meet the girl at reception? Staying in JW Marriot, (Soi 2) but am a bit shy and not sure I want to meet my massage lady in front of everyone!

If I give my room number to the girl is she 'allowed' to come straight up?

Thanks

ThanksYou will have to meet the girl in the Lobby and bring her up in the elevator. The elevator requires a room key to work. There is a house phone where she can call your room at the elevators. Or most likely she will send you a sms or call your cell to let you know she is there. Good idea to pick up a local sim.

I've not tried this at the JW (I haven't stayed there yet) but you can probably call the reception and ask them to give a room card to your girl so she can come upstairs by herself. You can always take the card when she arrives if you don't want her to keep it.

Or you could get over your shyness and just go get her, it isn't that hard. And the girls usually like it better this way, they don't like to face the reception staff by themselves.

Once you authorize her to recieve the card her name is on the system along with your name as occupants of the room. She can always go to the reception and get extra card saying she lost the other one.

Never let any pick up or massage girl know your weakness.

I would suggest meet her outside the hotel and escort her to your room. Safety is very important in any country.

ThanksGo down and greet her with a big smile, and say 'Hi, Bo / Bam / Cherry, lovely to see you! How are you today? Thanks for coming over, etc, etc'. The louder and friendlier you are the less embarrassing it becomes.

No need to be shy (unless your mum is also waiting in the lobby). The hotel staff have seen it all before. Most of the guests won't notice anything except a few married guys who will be insanely jealous.

It would seem especially silly for hotels to do this in BKK, where after a week they could very well have 10 names on one room if that was their process....

As far as I know most hotels only have the booking person on record (a "Guest Name + 1" system). This morning I called an hotel to reach a couple of friends and I gave them my female friend's name, they didn't have her on record. I gave them her husband's name and they got it instantly, because he did the booking.
