Maybe not always, but Agoda is usually hard to beat.
I have not had problems that I can recall with Agoda and often they beat the hotels own website rates substantially (but not this time).

Its probably wise to check more than one site each time, but I have found Agoda to be usually a good benchmark.

Yes agreed, Agoda was always pretty good, but I found it harder to get a deal with inclusive breakfast through them.
As I said, in the current climate, the hotel direct is now getting very hard to beat. Amari Group offer a deal if you can beat their own site price, difference refunded plus upgrade!!

Shop around - thats the key, if you have time.

Cheers, FF

I will be in transit via Suvarnabhimi airport for 8 hours (reaching around 11:00PM) and take connecting flight at 9:00AM.

Can anybody suggest any hotel where I can enjoy actions. What about Grand Inn Come Hotel. Hi,

I stayed at Grand inn last month good range of girls, I stayed with Phon, no 58, an older girl but a great fuck, loves DATY

Rates 400 baht per hour in room

600baht oil massage on floor 3

Fs for 1000 but well worth it.

Data from STR Global, a leading provider of market information to the global hotel industry, highlights the plight of local markets in Thailand and puts the effect of the country’s recent political disruption into a regional context.

The ongoing political unrest in Bangkok has severely affected the country's hospitality industry, which already has to deal with worsening global economic conditions, and now concerns of a possible swine flu pandemic.

Over the five months from November 2008 to March 2009, the four Thai markets tracked by STR Global have reported monthly declines of more than 30% in revenue per available room (RevPAR) against the comparable period the previous year.

The falls in RevPAR were driven by declining occupancy levels that were not matched by similar declines in average room rates.

"It is reassuring to see that average room rates declined significantly less than occupancy, and RevPAR should be able to start improving as soon as occupancy and travel demand recovers,” said Singapore-based Jonas Ogren, area director Asia for STR Global.

5-month performance of selected Thai markets (November 08 to March 09) and percentage change to prior timeframe:

City Occupancy ADR THB RevPAR THB occupancy % change ADR % change RevPAR % change
Bangkok 52.7% 3564.8 1879.2 -31.6% -3.7% -34.1%
Chiang Mai 43% 3755 1616.3 -31.9% -11.9% -40%
Hua Hin 57.4% 5174.8 2968.2 -27% -9% -33.6%
Phuket 60.8% 5327.6 3236.9 -24.8% -10.9% -33%
Source: STR Global

The recent protests in April 2009, combined with the airport closures in 2008 as well as foreign governments’ travel advisories have made visitors much more wary of the destination.

The market reaction has been swift. Demand in Bangkok in the middle of April has rapidly fallen by more than half of that of the previous year, down to as little as 33% on certain days.

Despite such low occupancies, hoteliers are holding their rates as best they can with year on year declines of 4% and an average rate of THB 3,323 for the first three weeks of April. It is time we mongerers get good rates!

Do they a massage parlour inhouse? At night about a dozen girls in a goldfish bowls setup.

Standard massage your room (and you can neg. Xtras)

Or Oil massage in a room on the 3 rd floor (massage table) I guess they don't want oil over the bed donnas)

First girl I booked only offer HJ and kept her clothes on. But Phon # 58 was up for FS. I booked her for 2 hours and after a leisurely massage we spent the second hour sucking and fucking. She loves DATY and cum with some vigorous fingering. She rode me for 20 mins and I came with my fav doggie She'd be late 30's and would have been a fire cracker in her teen.

Just an aside: FurmaXclusive Asoke has good sized new boutique rooms with 32" LCD TV, DVD player, & sound system, a fantastic free breakfast, nice pool, free Internet, and practically right on the MRT and BTS. (3min max) I booked a friend from BC Canada there this last weekend using 'Wotif', three nights, 1499 Baht/night, he was a very very happy boy. (Totally blown away at such a great deal, and the location.)

Location: you have Soi Cowboy diag across the street, the Luxury and Exclusive MPs right behind you on Soi 19, and the Tops Market is right there too. The MRT escalators are 1 min from the hotel. Quality is better than Majestic, and WAY better than any of the Citadines, IMHO.

Word to the wise: Make sure when you do the booking, that you are making it for TWO PERSONS in the room each night.I just booked this place for a few nites (thanks Barko for the tip!).

But see from earlier posts that they may charge a joiner fee?

I did book for 2 Persons - as suggested. Can anyone who has stayed here lately gives us a heads up?

I'm attaching a quote from a report several weeks ago. I copied it for reference because I was considering staying there. But this response from the hotel manager helped me decide not to stay there.

I'll stay next June for just one night in Bangkok (first time in thailand) at Shangri La before visiting north of the country.
What would be the easiest solution not to spend the night alone knowing that I don't want to choose from an escort agency and that I don't like them too young (I prefer 35+) ?
Any disco in the Shangri La or any pick up place not too far ?

Thanks for your advice bros.

Maybe instead of disco you could concider a free lancer bar. There must be plenty but I only know one:

My proposal is far but easy for you to get to. From wikimapia in my previous post :) I can see that Shangri La is close to Saphan Taksin BTS Skytrain station. You then would have to change the train track in Siam BTS station going to On Nut and leave in Nana BTS. Then walk to Beer Garden on Soi 7.

Recently stayed at Hopeland serviced apartments in Soi 24 while not in mongering mode.
If playing the field, I would have probably gone to my normal haunts.

Special price was 2300 Baht, including free breakfast, free wifi, small but usable pool.
Room had a bedroom, lounge and kitchenette. Very nicely furnished.

Mostly Japanese customers. Only down side was on quiet days, the breakfast selection was a bit limited, but adequate, e.g. no scrambled eggs or omelettes.
Coffee was a bit variable, too weak on occasions.

Wifi needed special settings under Vista, but fine once setup. A bit old fashioned?

I would go back as a very classy room at this price.
Slightly too far from Suk (400m+) but still reasonably close to Phrom Phong station.

...........
Why do you specifically mention 'not in mongering mode'? Would that be a problem there?
I would have thought, that a major reason for getting a serviced appartment, as opposed to a hotel, would be the total liberty of whom you bring to your room(s).

Girls you bring back to your domicile now know where you live. That is not necessarily a desirable thing, especially if they get clingy or turn into stalkers.

Of course they charge your card, all hotels do it.

Whats the point in asking a punter for a cash deposit or swipe the card if they are not going to charge the card?

Every crook in the world would be passing over fake plastic.

They charge your card and when you pay that charge is cancelled straight away.

Its your deposit. And the hotel's deposit that one day you do not just disappear.

1000 US$ is quite normal for 3 to 7 day stay as a deposit.

Hello,

I don't like to write bad reviews but in this case I like to warn fellow travelers about the Landmark Hotel in Bangkok near Nana.

Please be careful at check in when they check your credit card that they not charge you a certain amount far too high without authorization.

I have no problem with paying in advance on at check in when this is a hotel rule. I do have a problem when you ask the lady at the lobby several times do you already charge and they say no we only test your card. In my opinion it is a scam when my credit card company later calls me and ask if I authorized a 1000 dollar charge or not already made by this hotel.

It becomes more funnier when they try to charge more and when it fails (because of removing the rest from the card by myself) send a nasty letter under your room door. In that letter they state about a worrying situation about balance. If you pay everything cash days before check out and the smile returns then I have had it.

So beware about this!

I spent 11 days in Centrepoint Silom (studio room, 1800baht/night, breakfast included) and I have to thanks the guy who suggested it to me on this thread! Really nice place and nice service and good price

I have a request I'm not sure if should be posted here or in the Living in Thailand thread. About renting a condo.

I'm planning to spend 6-9 months in Bangkok in the near future and I'd like to find a studio room for rent around the Sala Daeng BTS area (my GF works in a office near the BTS).

I don't have so much money avaialable. So I'm looking for max 25k baht/month rates.

Of course I don't mind it being nice but what's important is to be near a BTS station on Silom line (if not Sala Daeng).

Any suggestion?

Also I'd like to have internet available in the room. Is it possible to make a flat adsl contract in a rented condo?

Thanks

Really nice place and nice service and good priceGlad it worked out for you Francesco24. It really is a nice setup, super comfortable new rooms, affordable, with terrific breakfasts & xlnt room service, free fast Internet, and that workout center & incredible pool? Yes. Robinsons, Tops, KFC, McDs, a real Thai basement food center and MK all right on site in the building. Blind eye multiple girl friendly too. BTS is 3 minutes from the Robinsons/hotel entryway, and the Chao Phraya river taxi point is just 4 min. Every single person that I have put there over the last 6 months has raved about it. Feels and looks bigtime expensive, but it's not.

I'm planning to spend 6-9 months in Bangkok in the near future and I'd like to find a studio room for rent around the Sala Daeng BTS area (my GF works in a office near the BTS). Sala Daeng apts are mostly kind of old and not worth the dough IMHO.

Any suggestion? In your price range, you can find a reasonably nice low floor studio apt in one of the condos built 10 years ago on the south side of Sathorn Tai. It might seem a little far from where you really want to be, but it's only about an 8 min walk to the BTS.

Also I'd like to have internet available in the room. Is it possible to make a flat adsl contract in a rented condo? Yes, of course, easy. If the condo has a phone line, (most do) even easier.

I'll ask around and see what I can find for you when I'm there next week. Good luck with it.

From what I have seen in the past knowing where to post seems fairly easy. However this left me with a dilema. I want to write about my experience at Livingstones, however it seems a bit of a waste posting this in Giotto’s form because most of the posts there are from regulars to LL

So here goes for those who are newcomers to Bangkok and wondering what to do for the best in terms of the Hotel, maybe I can save you some web time and dissapointment. I have to say that I spent many hours on the ISG and other sites trying to ensure that I got the best values for money. I never really searched for the cheapest accomodation as I wanted to avoid false economies. I read a lot of posts and checked a whole load of other data. I won't go through my process as it would take days and pages, however let me summarise my findings about Livingstones Lodge.

1) Reservations were easy and the hotel replied very quickly. Far better than the Hotel in Geylang that I booked for my Singapore stopover.

2) The taxi found the hotel very easily.

3) The room exceeded expections, I booked a superior and was very surprised to find that it was superior. Big room and bed, I have to say that the bed was designed for FUN. And was used accordingly.

4) ALL of the staff were really great, so helpfull and polite it was unbelievable. Always ready and willing to help, and so importantly, with a smile!

5) I ate and drank a lot in the Hotel and can honestly say that the quality and service never gave me any reason for complaint. Maybe some nights the ladies lead me astray and got me a tad drunk (OK I laid back and gave in every night).

6) The Sports Bar is really well run and I was never worried about getting ripped off. The hostesses were really fantastic and I don’t remember when I had so much fun before. Yes I did buy them lots of drinks, BUT, that was because I wanted to. Not because of being under any pressure.

7) Please spend a few minutes chatting to the management. I got a lot more pleasure from my time in BKK thanks to the management team here. They even gave advice about the places to go outside of the lodge. Saved me a lot of time and effort!

8) Finally please get to know the Mamasans in the Sports Bar. They know more about the ladies (AND US) than we can ever hope for, it was a bit like Mamma knows best. This time she did. As a result of their help and guidance I had a far better time than if I had tried to go it alone.

Did I have any disapointments, Yes. I read a comment (cannot remember where) that said Singapore and Thailand. Same, Same. From my experience Wrong, Wrong. Should have flown direct to BKK and had another 3 days in the Lodge. Won’t make that mistake again.

I know this is a long post, however if it helps just one person to have as much fun as I did in BKK then it is well worth the effort.

It is a common practice for hotels to swipe card when registering. However, in normal circumstances, a hold on the amount is placed - NOT charged. If it were charged you would be signing a slip. When you check out and have paid the hotel the hold is lifted. So have enough credit if you plan to use the card elsewhere.

Caution: Do not use debit/credit cards for the initial swipe as sometimes it places a hold on your entire balance.

Just thought you would want to know.

Bloodstock, IMHO you would be better off by staying at Ruamchitt Plaza Hotel for that price range. (1500 B/night for the renovated rooms and 1200 B for the regular). You would be within walking distance from both Nana and Asoke Stations.

Glad it worked out for you Francesco24.

Sala Daeng apts are mostly kind of old and not worth the dough IMHO.

In your price range, you can find a reasonably nice low floor studio apt in one of the condos built 10 years ago on the south side of Sathorn Tai. It might seem a little far from where you really want to be, but it's only about an 8 min walk to the BTS.

Yes, of course, easy. If the condo has a phone line, (most do) even easier.

I'll ask around and see what I can find for you when I'm there next week. Good luck with it.Maybe the only negative side about Centrepoint Silom is being a bit far from the night scene. But I was there with my GF so didn't metter, anything else was really perfect!

About any suggestions for the condos, I'll be glad to hear them

I don't know the Sathorn Tai area, anyway my preferencewould be a condo near to a Silom Line BTS station (for example any decent priced places near MBK? )

Thanks a lot!

All red light district areas have short time hotels with nice clean rooms that you can rent out for over night. I would recommend this if you want to save some money. for example if you want to go to Nana, check around for a nice room first before you get a girl. I got one for 550B over night which was just as nice as an 3 stars hotel. The short time rate was 350. So for another 200B I had the use of the room for the whole night. If you unsure, just ask a mamason or papa son at any bar and they will point out the nicer ones for you.

Avoid Agoda!

Avoid booking through agencies that DONT give the full price from the beginning. Agoda hide the tax. At the end of the booking you get a higher price.

When you click on the link "click to book," the full rates (with taxes) are shown to the right under booking details before you even enter your personal information. Having used Agoda on several different occasions, I have found them to be one of the cheaper and more credible choices available for hotel reservations.

I also often use Wotif for its clarity in comparing rates and facilities, and it's usually pretty cheap. If nothing else it's a useful first scan to compare several possibles.

Since I have no stock in the company, I'll pass on trying to defend them. I only pointed out to you that the full rates are displayed up front and not hidden till the end as you originally claimed. Perhaps, upon reflection you will see that you are classically engaging in making the proverbial "mountain out of a molehill" but if not just don't use them.

One more thing about Agoda that is welcoming to me; when they charge my credit card, it is done in my local currency which negates the need for international transaction fees and currency conversion rates which often results in higher charges.

Not exactly a million miler KrisFlyer® on Singapore Airlines are we Primo Bolan? Time to wake up and smell the klong water dude.

Agoda, Expedia, Wotif, Priceline, even the hotels themselves, ALL have added taxes and fees that they tag on at the end. They simply can't put the added dailies up front, but (incorrectly in your case) assume that you know they are there. It IS a profit deal after all.

Agoda (now owned by Priceline) is indeed excellent. I also use the Priceline "bidding" system from time to time and get great deals on 4 & 5 star hotel rooms, (i.e. Amari Watergate and Holiday Inn for $50/day,) there are fees that you always have to add on to the total, but it still beats the crap out of the normal pricing. ;)

I personally use Wotif to great effect by doing my homework and sleuthing out the "Wot" secret deal hotels and booking those for clients or others just visiting. For example: Marriott Executive Apartment, Sathorn Vista. It's unavailable through Agoda and normally priced around 3500-4000++ Baht/day. By chasing down the "Wot" deal, I backdoored the large executive suite for three nights at 2999 Baht/day (thats $268 for 3 days all inclusive.) And, just so you know, we're talking big time full on, Marriott style top drawer luxury class stuff here, 65 sq/m brand new, huge kitchen with a real oven, dishwasher, washing machine AND dryer, 2 lrg LCD TVs, floor to ceiling glass in both living room and bedroom, and a bathroom that everyone wishes they had in their own home. All that and just 3 min from the Lumpini MRT.

Want to impress a hot chick for a few days while you're in Bangkok? Want to make your clients think you are a total genius? Or, want simply to make yourself extremely comfortable for a terrific deal (that will keep you smiling?) This is how you do it.

But hey, even Wotif charges a bit of a booking fee, so there you go.

"mountain out of a molehill" Well its a mountain when it comes to the size of bookingcompanies like Agoda.
Companies trying to manipulate with the rates, I dont trust.
Thats why I think they are a bad company. Thats why I do not use them and thats my opinion just like u have yours.

PB,

This practice is done by lots of companies, something like a bait and switch marketing practice. Go to some of the Airline booking website you put in your date and destination and you are given a price... then you proceed further and click you get the total price with the all the taxes. Ever see a car in the newspaper advertised you go into the dealership to check it out and they say we only had one and it's gone! It's to get your attention!

As for Visa Amex...etc you might not see the rate because what the banks get and what you get is different and usually customer are just happy to be getting it. You won't see the charges on your statement.

This is the way the world works I sugguest you just go with the flow as suggested. Just move on if you don't like it... there always something better around the corner. Companies like Agoda are dime a dozen. What you need to do is when you click and get all the taxes is it still cheaper than the cheapest quote you got somewhere else.

Yes youre right LBM. Made my airlinebooking to BKK and searching the different dates they told me 591 US (from a European city) at the end of the booking I had to pay 591 US. But I know what u mean, there are some that you can not trust about pricing.
The thing is, I dont understand why many thinks Agoda is so good. Use someone else instead as there are many others. Agoda may have a nice homepage, but thats simply not enough for me.

Could someone tell me how far the Cape House serviced apartments Chitlom are from the BTS station, and if they are nicer for instance than Adelphi (didn't like) / Citadines (which I find OK, the one I know on soi 8)? The location seems decent for a change from the Suk.

I looked on gmaps and it seems a little far to walk (and unfortunately walking in BKK is not that enjoyable).

Sorry mate, it isn't that you can't trust them it is that you need to be aware of how their website works. The problem here is not the hotel booking sites but your expectations. There are airlines that give you prices w/o taxes and surcharges in the beginning and only show them at the end. There are also airlines that show you the price with all surcharges from the first time they show you flights. Nothing to do with trust. It is up to you, the consumer, to understand how this particular company presents their prices. The hotel booking sites you are talking about don't show the price with taxes and surcharges until later in the process. If you are aware of that then you can totally trust them to show you the price later on. There are other sites that show you all inclusive prices from the start. Is one more or less trustworthy than the other? Absolutely not!

If not "untrustful",
I rate unfair (and dodgy) to attract you with an advertised price that then changes through the steps of the booking process and can easily go up by 60%.
Surely you have the option to click I ACCEPT or do not proceed and cancel the bookingù
But you are already emotionally committed to taht trip, you have already figured out you will fly with them at that time, that day, happy about a price that soon becomes past history once you are through the last steps of the process.
In Europe this practice is not allowed and airlines cannot advertise a price without including trax, fees etc.
Still a major lo.co. european airline has found the way out. Adding extra fees for non online check-in, for luggage above the allowance (and that is tricky too!), etc etc..
Remains dodgy to me..

Agreed, no matter which site you use, there is always the option to ''Accept'' or ''Decline'' before you pay the final price including all taxes and extras etc.
Who cares whether the sites advertise prices with or without taxes, at the end of the day all it takes is a little ''free internet'' time to root around and find the total price and get yourself a bargain.

Personally I use a varied cross-section of travel sites to search and review hotels before making my bookings, each of them have their own merits. I avoid the ones that require Pre-payment, preferring to pay the hotel on checkout. Similarly I avoid those that require more than 48 hrs notice to cancel etc. However I would not refuse to take advantage of any site just because of the fact that they dont show the full price in the advertising, after all its their way of doing business, similar to many others around the world. There are extras with most deals, even a WG will have some add-ons, like it or not.

Just got a great deal for a stay next week at FuramaXclusive Asok, inc Buffet Breakfast for 2 persons, free WiFi etc etc.

Cheers, FFYep, that would be me, and yep, you paid too much.

FYI: This "Wotif" FuramaXclusive Asok deal has been outed several times lately on this board, same hotel, same everything: Three nights, ฿6122 nett (includes all taxes and fees.) That's ฿2040ttl/night. And, if you are paying attention, the same deal can sometimes be had as cheaply as ฿1499/night for three nights. Take a look and cancel your Asiatravel.com overpriced thing.

I have booked many times with Wotif, for myself and others, even this same room at FuramaXclusive Asok, the people I booked for liked it a lot, (BTS, MRT, Tops Market, Robinsons, Soi Cowboy, not to mention the outstanding breakfast & fast free Internet) and, the pricing & professional service is simply unbeatable:

http://www.wotif.com/hotel/View?hotel=W59071&page=1&viewType=all&refId=65662

Asiatravel.com is very pricey IMHO, and, because they don't precharge your card, they have a history of calling you the day before your reservation date and telling you that they can't get the hotel you wanted, "Shall we try another?" That's a total horseshit way to run a business if you ask me. But then again, I am just an old caustic mouthed, one eyed trouser snake skirt chasing farthead, what would I know?

Oh and for the mongering minded, make sure to book 2persons per night, and tell them when you check in that your girlfriend is a flight attendant and will be arriving late. ;)

These "mystery hotels", where you don't know the location, except that it is somewhere in Bangkok are probably not everyone's cup of tea. It takes a bit of doing, knowledge of the areas, then doing a full comparison of the things to do and the amenities.

Methodology by example:

OK here, for another good example, the "Marriott Executive Apartment, Sathorn Vista". It is also a "secret" Wot hotel deal that I just booked for someone yesterday:

http://www.wotif.com/hotel/View?hotel=W66816&page=1&viewType=all&refId=65662

The way I do it is go to the Bangkok header:

http://www.wotif.com/hotels/thailand-bangkok-hotels.html

This the "Live Deals" page. Now, look at the tabs just above the hotel listings. You will see "Live Deals", "Hotel List", and "Related Options".

Isolate your area by going to "Related Options", it will list the separated areas of the city, then go to your area, e.g. Sathorn:

http://www.wotif.com/hotels/thailand-bangkok-sathorn-hotels.html

You see, it lists the hotels in your specific area, and the 'secret' deals, nicely separated and defined by star rating. You then just open each of the hotels listed under the secret deal in relation to the star rating, and compare the options and amenities to the secret, as I did with this:

Secret deal: http://www.wotif.com/hotel/View?hotel=W66816&page=1&viewType=all&refId=65662

Comparitive listing: http://www.wotif.com/hotel/View?hotel=W65815&page=1&viewType=all

You precipitate and extract the deal simply by doing a little research (reading everything in there and being sure they are the same.) You may think that it takes a bit too much time to go through them all, but after you do it a few times, it's very easy, ergo, it becomes a very low risk gamble. You basically KNOW what the "secret" Wot hotel is before you book it.

In this example, I backdoored a normally priced brand new 3,800 Baht suite (and a good deal even at that price,) for 2,999 Baht for three nights. So this particular case truly reflects what fantastic deals can be had.

So, yeah, I really did figure this system out all my myself, ahem, so I may not be a dumb as I look. Heh. Please don't tell anybody and ruin it for me, OK? My brothers in arms here at ISG that use it, I just ask for a tip your hat and a thanks, I just saved you a bundle of serious dough on your hotel travel.

More to come. Questions? ;)

You've probably lost some of the membership here, more importantly Wotif may be losing potential customers, who are more interested in the clearly visible price/location than learning the hidden nuances of their website. Why wouldn’t the best deals be promoted up front instead of being concealed only to be "backdoored" by those in the know?

This disclaimer below from that listing above is enough to turn me off though, if I can't cancel or change my reservation I am going elsewhere.

Except that the Wotif Hot Deal (Stay 3 Pay 2) is for a deluxe room and I want better so I got a premier one, hence I paid a little more.

I couldnt get the premier room on the same (3/2) deal from Wotif or the hotel itself, however I did get it through Asiatravel - odd but true.

As for finding out which hotel is the Wotif ''secret deal'' referring to, I have an easy method.

1) Choose the Wot Hotel Secret Deal you are interested in, click ''next'' to link through to the ''secret details'' on the booking page.

2) Copy and Paste the Room details into Google, and 99% of the time up it comes with the hotel name - job done.

See this?: http://www.wotif.com/hotel/View?hotel=W59071&page=1&viewType=all&refId=65662
Nowhere in there is the actual hotel mentioned, that's because it is supposed to be a secret. It's not a secret anymore now is it? I told you what it is, and now you know.

In any case, I booked 2 rooms in March for Hong Kong clients, my old Canadian buddy stayed there just a few weeks ago as well, all booked using the previously sussed "secret" Wot hotel deal. They all paid a total of exactly ฿6122 ($180 nett) for all three nights, and they all received this type room, exactly:

I know this hotel well Fifty Fifty. It's really not my style, too much of that pantywaisted boutique crapola for me, and I still haven't figured out what that weird fucking oval cutout is supposed to be in the ceiling, (put a freakin mirror in there or something dammit!) But, the tourists really seem to like it a lot, it's an easy hit for me to book for them, and it does get the job done quite nicely.

I dare you to beat that deal on that room at that hotel. :D

I have in no way missed the point.

The ''Secret Wotif Deal'' is the one I researched successfully using my "Google Method'' so you really did not need to tell me the secret info.

I say again, this deal is only for a Deluxe Room, your clients may have got lucky and been upgraded, but the deal is not for Premier Rooms at all.

Furthermore there are two other issues with this "Secret Wotif Deal" that I totally disagree with.

1) The disclaimer in the Booking that says

"This property will not offer a refund if you want to cancel or change your booking for any reason"

2) The requirement to pay in full upfront when making the booking through Wotif.

As I say again I may have agreed to pay a little more, but I have Premier Room Reserved and I have not paid upfront for anything, therefore my booking remains flexible, which is how I need it to be. I can change or cancel within 48 Hrs of reservation date and lose nothing.

I have been playing the hotel booking game for over 30 yrs and I take my time to research and gain a good deal.

Usually the ''really good deals'' such as the Wotif Secrets etc require full payment in advance with no refund policy and I avoid them due to the need for my work and travel plans to be flexible.

I am also not so keen on the trashy touristy megastar hotels which charge extra for farting in bed etc, however I am travelling with my long term CIS GF who likes the "stylish'' places, so there has to be a little give and take all round.

So my point is I have a fully flexible but guaranteed Premier Room booking and I havent paid a penny upfront - agreed price is 8000 THB inc all taxes etc for 3 nights, pay on checkout, now that does take some beating !

If anyone else needs any hotel booking advice ask ''Barko'', dont bother me :D

Cheers, FF

If anyone else needs any hotel booking advice ask ''Barko'', dont bother me: D Heh.

I tried the google thing, it worked the first time, and I said to myself, "Jeez man, what a fuckhead I am, I have to write a retract right away! " Then, google didn't work on any of the other secret deals but one, oops.

Please don't get me wrong here, I use Agoda, Expedia, (TripAdvisor), Hotwire, Priceline, and Wotif. I also call the hotels themselves (using Skype) to see if I can get sizable breaks off of the original online booking rates. I have a ton of airline mileage and Agoda points, and am an Expedia Elite where I get discount coupons and an automatic 30% off in some locales.

Usually, I try to spend about 30 min a day doing online travel research for myself and my clients/friends, I am on the go every week, and get a ton of crap in my emails, and I am sure that you do too. Everybody gets out of it what they put in I figure.

Again, when I book hotels and airfares, I get the down and dirtiest cheapest rates, put them on my card for a deadlock, then make absolutely fucking sure I make it to the booking on time and in one piece. Canceling just one thing would mean having to cancel a ton of inline scheduled and arranged crapola along with it. So, I always go when I am supposed to go, and be there when I am supposed to be there, period.

OK never mind.

You would NOT believe the deals I am getting with Priceline bidding lately. But it's the same thing there, you can't cancel or change your dates, totally impossible. Two weeks ago I got a 5 star hotel in San Francisco Union Square, four rooms for 2 nights, 43rd floor, including Executive Club floor private breakfast, (normally $330 each room/night online) all for a crazy $80/night each. Right now is the time to do this kind of thing, 4 and 5 star hotel rooms are sitting vacant all over the world, but really, you won't be able to negotiate with the hotel directly and expect to get a badass discount like that, forget about it.

So, if you are up for the game, you simply run the gauntlet with the Priceline bidding system (if you have done your homework, know the ropes, and can gamble a tiny bit, ) but fuck yeah, it is definitely paying off nicely as of late.

Even here in Thailand. Priceline bid won last week: 5 Star Amari Watergate, 2 nice very classy newly remodeled rooms, w/42" LCD TV, xlnt city views, no brkfst, $50 night/each.

As I wrote a couple of week ago, I'm looking for a condo to spend about 6 or 7 month in BKK.

On this site http://www.bkkcondos.com/ I could find some interesting offers (even cheaper than I was planning at the beginning) so I was set to rent something from them when I'll be there later this month.

Problem is, I just found out (they replied to my email) they only provide 1 year contracts... so I'm back to having no idea where to go:)

Anybody has any contacts to look for a studio condo for rent? No idea how it works in BKK, but something like an agency I could go and visit to show me some condos?

Thanks again

Thanks againThere's a condo that I used to live at which you can do month to month. It is locate near a MRT ( metro line) and charges 7000B per month and has a swimming pool. The nice thing about it is it has a 24 hours restaurant that brings the food to your room. The name is LA towers and it is locate on soi 17 of Rachada behind Poseidon Massage.

I found out about it from a Poseidon girl, so if you go there all of the local motor bike taxi can get you to the condo. It is a 5min walk from Poseidon and you can see it from the windows of Poseidon.

Otherwise there are other condo/hotel times that you can rent for 500B per day or 13500B per month locate on the on the main soi of Poseidon about 50 meters down the soi ( side street).

Also almost all condo complex have monthly rentals and I would not worry about that you can always figure that out when you get here.

I hope this helps.

Thanks againDon't have any specific agency contacts, but my suggestion would be to get a temporary place for a week or 2 and go looking with several.

From experience, there are many, many options here, but it will be difficult to choose a place not seeing it in person . Agencies will give you much better service in person I would think, as they get many inquiries and want to work with someone they know they can place .

Most get paid from landlords and shouldnt charge you much , if any fee.

Good luck

I have read this forum and done searches with zero luck on answering my question. I was wondering if this hotel is gf? Not overly concerned about a guest fee, but if not gf, I will have to consider somewhere else. Looks like a very convenient location to party in Patpong. I have sent them an email, but not yet heard back from them.

Is it on Sukumvit by the sky train? direct at Suk, about 3 minutes walk to Nana skytrain station. 3 minutes to NEP as well.

Or is it recessed on a side street in back between Soi 4 & 6.No, that's for example the Sukhumvit Grand Bangkok (for me, one of the best hotels in that area when it comes to price, quality and location)

What about breakfast? Available, but rather simple (some will say poor.)

How about any information on the Majestic Grand Hotel? gf as well, 200 metres down suk soi 2, across Annie's Massage Parlor, more expensive.

Thanks againThere are so many possiblities, better to be here in person to scope the places out yourself. Many companies online, just google, you'll get some ideas. Then pound the pavement on your own, look in the exact area that you want, and be open to possibllites.

Lots of times what they call a condo (on the websites) turns out to be a ridiculously small 28 sq m space with super cheesy furniture. There are some gems out there, but it takes a while to find them, just like anywhere else.

A friend found a private second story house rental, furnished, real kitchen with big fridge, 2 yrs new, 85 sq m., separate carport/garage and private stairway, 22K Baht/mo. The place is outstanding. He pays month to month on a 1 yr contract (he insisted on one year just so they wouldn't wake up out of the blue and charge him more after he had been there a couple of months)

Your area around Sathorn is full of all kinds of stuff. If you decide to break the 20K Baht barrier, the choices are astoundingly plentiful and very easy to jump into.

Finding month to month isn't hard, even in the 15-18K range. Don't stress over it, you'll be just fine.

I recently stayed in the Hotel Mercure Asoke Residence (formerly Sofitel) on Sukhumvit Soi 19, which is one of the Accor hotels. They had a three-day promotion in February that I learned about here, and got a fantastic deal. Normal price around 4500, I got 1330 baht for a very nice place - separate bedroom, kitchenette, nice roof-top pool, and girl-friendly in a nice location.

I was told by the staff at the Mercure that the Accor group is having another promotional sale, I think with similar prices to the ones offered in February. Must book during the three day period from June 23 - 26, and stay from July 1 to September 31. Last time there was a website that went up on those days, so I imagine it will go that way again...

Thanks for all reply about condo, I did check some internet sites and I'll check in person next week

I'd like to know if someone could suggest me a decent hotel with pool to spend a morning/afternoon with a girl I met online.

The plan is to go there in the morning and stay all day till 7pm or something like that (need to go back to my GF later LOL).

So I was looking for not so bad hotel, but not so expensive also (2k bath or less? ) with decent pool and maybe decent massage place. Also allowing early check in (10 am or so).

Any idea? Thanks a lot

I went for Novotel Siam because it seemed the best deal (highest rack rates). I wished almost immediately to changed it to this property.

The worst thing about Novotel Siam Square is the multiple security guards at the lists (on many flooers) 24/7. The have a joiner fee of 800 baht after 8pm but I just found it depressing and didn't bother.

I had prepaid 4 nights and moved out after 3.

Just a wink and a nod from the security guard as we walked up the driveway. I hardly ever saw anyone else. The day I used the pool, there was one other guy, and I don; t recall ever seeing a soul on my floor. Very quiet. Almost too much.

But you got at least one great balcony that I know has been put to great use also. It is amazing what positions and types of activities you can have in that set up. What you do need is a couch or big chair so we continue getting creative in positions.

I think we've used up every corner and possibilities in the current room set ups and layouts. What ever happened to that day or party room you were going to do? Or the honeymoon suite?

A new website will be up soon. Still there is the problem, that all rooms are a bit different - we were building the rooms into an existing building, so there is not a real standard.

Kid - I can only say that this is what the staff told me when I asked whether I could get the deal again on my return trip - said I had to wait for these prices until the next promotion on these dates.

As to GF - not all Accor hotels are, apparently. Search through posts here on others that some have found disappointing on this score. I don't know about the e-mail, but I suppose it is a reliable guide - why wouldn't they tell you about policies or charges?

zauber - apparently not all the accor hotels in bangkok are gf - rambis youth reported recently that the novotel siam was not... perhaps it is not representative, but i would check on specific hotels to be sure.

It would fit me perfect. It cost a little to much now, but if the price you say is true these dates it would be wonderful with 4 stars, roof pool, GF and Wifi. I will look out for this deal! Thanks.
BTW, all Accor hotells GF?
And if I send an email to a hotel in Bangkok and ask if the hotel is GF, can I count with a honest reply?

I will arrive 23th sep and stay 1 week (or more) in Bangkok.

I should mention that they do have wifi, but it is not free. I avoided the hefty charges by going up to the corner and using McDonald's at 60 bt/hour.

A new website will be up soon. Still there is the problem, that all rooms are a bit different - we were building the rooms into an existing building, so there is not a real standard.

I will be staying one night in BK this weekend. Kind of unexpected. My travel agent booked the SIAM CITY HOTEL Bangkok, is that hotel GF?

Thanks!

PS: Will try to RTFF the regular BK forum now, but any spontaneous hints where to find action as PM are appreciated!

To make clear - the Athenee 1999 baht rate is good through September 30th, 2009. Bookings must be made by May 24th.

This is a Top Tier hotel - not unusual to see regular rooms going for 5000 baht.

Available only through the special URL, below.

I asked earlier is this hotel GF and got no answer so answering to myself - It is GF.

It was the most luxurious hotel I have been. Very elegant and courteous staff. Extremely nice pool area. The lunch buffet 1800B.

I felt misplaced in there. 20B tip for carrying suitcase resulted a sour face from the bell boy:) It is in business area lot of embassies around so for getting near action you will need to get a Skytrain from nearby Phloen Chit BTS station (or taxi) to Nana or where ever you are going. I once walked back (in sweat) from Nana so in principle it is in walking distance.

20B tip for carrying suitcase resulted a sour face from the bell boy:) I got some negative reactions to the same amount from a bell boy
and front desk staff at the Nana hotel.

100 baht and they act genuinely thankful.

Upstairs with maids and laundry service is a different story.

20 baht and they're content.

For guys trying to figure out where to stay on their first visit... here's a tip that may be helpful. I have come to like Soi 11. Lots of good choices in the area, but sometimes too many can be daunting. I stayed in the Federal one night, but it is older and less attractive. Moved to the Grand President for a much better option.

Stayed in Tower 3 (Soi 11, on the other side of the street from main part of Grand President, behind the German restaurant) for part of my visit recently, and thought it was a pretty swell choice:

1. Extremely GF - checked IDs and called to make sure all was well when girl leaves.

2. Right now with low season and the bad economy, lots of rooms available. As a walkup, they gave me a better rate than I could find on the internet - 1999/day including breakfast for 2 (make sure you register for 2 - they actually made sure of that for me) and free internet (but make sure you ask for that, as it is not automatic but they give it easily). Rooftop pools on both buildings you can use.

3. Soi 11 is to me a very good location. Easy walking distance to Nana, Thermae, Soi Cowboy (about 15 min.), Beer Garden, Annies, King & I (good nonsexual massage), lots of nice restaurants, laundry service up the street by 7/11 much cheaper than in hotel, lots of streetwalkers at night (or even in day sometimes) if that's your thing, and an exit from the Nana Skytrain station that dumps you right in front of Soi 11.

Ok, there's more, but I won't bore you.

So I will :) It has been my prefered choise also. Had to admit that not after extensive comparison. After reading this forum went there and have not had complaints. Personally I want to bring up the Japanise restaurant in the complex as I am a huge sushi freak.

For services I want to add there are good number of ATMs around. When going to Beer Garden there is a nice short cut route. I hope I could remember details but it went between a fence and spa/massage on ground level. Well, first opening on right when going towards BTS.

You can also go direct, I looked at the Accor site for the asoke property, but add in the taxes, breakfast and I know they have a high internet charge, a one bedroom suite at a known location in the heart of the action is only 200 or 300 baht more per night (adding in all extras).

This other property has a washer / dryer and for a 16 day stay and without wanting to pack or take a lot of clothes, plus the GF washes for me, was the difference for me.

So it can also work to try to book direct or through the management companies. Some web sites like to play the add on game or not include the taxes or have other charges.

The absolute best case is to play the walk up game right now and go really low ball on them to the manager. But I'm not spend my day hunting for a cheap room to save a few baht going place to place to place or risk being shut out and ending up with rack rates if you don't play that game well.

Arrived last night and checked in to Merisess, Soi 16. Previous reports are pretty accurate. Hotel is not quite there yet, still teething. Executive One Bed is 5555 THB/3 nights with airport pick up. Breakfast delivered to room as reported. Made a few mistakes, but the girl that does the breakfast (also housekeeper) said drop off request to her directly and she would make sure all good from then on.

Manager asked at check in did I want ladies screened ( ID checked ) for duration and advised could phone for a once off check. Forthright and practical option when you think of it.

Rooms are ok, a little bigger than a standard room, finishes let it down. But it is ok. Shame, as the set up could have made for a top class mongering hotel. They bought the right gear, and the layout is good, someone let the ball drop when putting it together. Just small details. Anyway it is a reasonable option if you are looking for a good "work area" without a lot of hassle. Internet is free, but a little slow at times. Good enough for me, but won't suit someone needing high bandwidth. I am comparing to LL also on wifi.

Will try somewhere else after the three days, probably Soi 11 as Stew says - lots of options, and then back to LL...

Excellent question Daddy San.

Questions? ;)Thanks for the information. I also booked through Wotif and got immediately the confirmation (and more than THB 1.000/per night cheaper than using my Marriott card).

One question: is this hotel gf (I booked for 2) ?

Thanks for the information. I also booked through Wotif and got immediately the confirmation (and more than THB 1.000/per night cheaper than using my Marriott card).

One question: is this hotel gf (I booked for 2) ?Marriott Sathorn Vista: Extremely, totally and completely, blind eye guest friendly.

I personally have stumbled through the foyer toward the lifts at 11pm with 2 blistering hot Nana cuties on either arm, their high heels clicking with lots of giggles & other funny noises, and have received nothing but very friendly wais and warm greetings from the staff. In fact, I have done this a few times there now, heh.

Perfection.

IMHO, with the Wotif secret at 2999 Baht, the Marriott Sathorn is the best deal in town, and about as guest friendly as any 5 star place I have seen anywhere. The word is out though, and good news travels fast through underground BKK. Ergo, the place is becoming very popular.

OK, the bad news is, as with all Marriotts, you have to pay for the Internet, and breakfast isn't free either. But, the place IS very nice, the rooms are outstanding, and the beds are the best in town, (even rivaling the JW Marriott Suk.)

Features: (all top drawer stuff) a real dishwasher, a real for real convection oven w/broiler, a real coffee maker, real washer and dryer, two large LCDs both with 'in wall' laptop connex so you can watch your own lappy based .avi's .mpg's, etc. on the TVs, and more. Some might find the ambience a little sterile, but when you turn down those bedroom lights, magic happens. (Pics and personal report to come soon.)

For locals: A great place to throw a nice little party without messing your own pad, and, check out those reception desk honeys, whoa. ;)

Surroundings: From Suan Plu, go across Sathorn via the walkbridge, then head up Covenant Rd. to Silom/Patpong/Thaniya/BTS Saladaeng, many good restaurants en route. Ogoto and BenTen massage are nearby too.

Marriot Sathorn Vista: I'll be there again next weekend!

Now Somewhere15, if you have read all that, I'll bury another tidbit here: The aforementioned JW Marriott is another Wotif secret deal, 3500 Baht (as opposed to the latest 5900++ Baht Marriott Rewards members promotion that Marriott is doing now.) Check it if you want:

http://www.wotif.com/hotel/View?hotel=W66276&page=1&viewType=all&refId=65662

Tried a Premier room at FX (FuramaXclusive) in Sathorn as iResidence was full. Quite close to BTS (Chong Nonsri) and nice lounge room. Downside was hot water was iffy, changing to and fro between very hot and not hot enough often. Breakfast was medium standard. O.K. but not exactly recommended and heavy traffic in Silom/Sathorn district, meaning use of BTS was always best.

Free wifi Internet Connection O.K. for browsing but error prone when trying to do OS work.

Moved to Dream in Sukhumwit. This hotel is really quite good overall. Downside is no breakfast included in the Agoda deal. Free wifi Internet connection too slow and flakey to do OS work, but tollerable for normal browsing.

So I am not really hooked by either place.

Hopeland Apartments on last trip were probably better overall.

Of course, you can get Internet and breakfast if you book with the Marriott "Business Package" on their website, but the rates inc. tax start at about 4,300 Baht per night.

I pay 9,122 Baht for three nights with the Wotif Secret, I don't really need the buffet at all, and for Internet I connect my laptop via PDA to VPN. Works for me.

it is good at ll. will go back next time. at merisess it was ok, good for download, but a little slow up.

i changed hotel just before the holiday, as merisess has no bar and i wasn't sure what the two days would entail. ended up at royal ivory on nana, as a mate of mine was coming back there from pattaya. he forgot his watch in room safe and asked me to collect. was cheap, something like 1000 or 1100/night on expedia. very large rooms (maybe 45 - 50 sq m), no hassles but a little rough. suited at the time, but should have spent last week at ll as planned. i think it is more value for money. wifi was slow, despite the gadget being located directly outside room.

Ok, there's more, but I won't bore you.[/QUOTE]I was several times by King & I. Last week for the first time it was clear that the service go far beyond standard expectation.

Laying with my face down she played “innocent” with my balls, repeated that many times and gave me a great butt massage. When I had to turn on my back she continue the ball playing but refused to go future.

As this was already around closing time I tried to get the girl into my Hotel (close to Asoke) but she did refuse that.

Anyway a nice and unexpected experience. I gave her a royal tip.

Thanks in advance,Blind eye guest friendly.

Make sure to book your room for two guests = no problems or checks whatsoever.

Word of caution, the standard rooms at Centre Point Wireless are small, too small IMHO. They say 38 sq. meters, but it sure doesn't feel like that. Queen bed in most.

Not sure what you mean, Somewhere15 - if the girl won't go further than playing a bit with your balls, how does that give indication that "it was clear that service goes far beyond standard expectation"?

Also confused what King and I is doing in hotel thread. FWIW King and I offer discounts to air crew but they won't apply that to your partner, only you. And the most I ever got was a HJ during a Royal Massage and from a not so pretty lady and not that skilled. But I go there often as I do like their regular Massages.

Soi 11 has some good hotels, try Citidines... good value, good rooms, good location. Nice having a couch and bed and stand in shower with bench. Put that bench in the shower to very good use many times. Have had both types of rooms with them and their staff is great with the mongers.

On the other hand, my son just emailed me to say he got a deal at MG for 6122 baht for 2 nights + 1 complimentary one - not sure yet if breakfast included.

Do you happen to remember her name or any way to select her? Which massage did you take? Thai? Royal Thai? I always take there a 2 hours aromatic oil massage. This is in a private room including a shower.

I did not select her, forgot her name and believe the girls work per floor and she was available.

After some days I returned, had a younger lady who didn't speak English and. Refused to touch my dick/balls.(old patron there in King & I).

I return there frequently when I stay in BKK and standard for King & I was/is: poor English and in general they refuse too touch balss and dick.

I've heard that Chateau de Bangkok is NOT Guest Friendly.I stayed end of last year in Chateau de Bangkok for nearly one week. Had around 4 girls during that stay (always between 1 and 4 PM, after closing of Spasso's, CM2 or Tunnel). Security combined with reception staff during nighttime always with minimum 3 people.

They want to see the girls ID (and make notice in a register).

Um... did you look at the thread dedicated to LL here? There's only 1,000's of posts about the place.

It's called giotto's forum... don't mind the current banter... it has rooms, internet, any time of the day breakfast, girls, etc... near BTS, etc...

I have already paid the room with no option for changes but the girl just smiled (I guess) and sad thats wast just fine and she would change my booking with 3 days ahead.

Sounds like a good hotel and service (or bad economy)..

I think is both.

With the bad economy there are alot of empty rooms in Bangkok.

Most 4 star hotels will allow you to change or cancel room on 72 hr notice.

I hope the price of hotels in Bangkok will drop even more.

Once when I was in BKK with my gf, was able to sneak out to PB with a FL. They have both, long and short time rooms. Short time rooms are well equipped for the short time action. Hope I'm allowed to post this link.

Stayed there some years ago when it was still called Leela Inn IIRC; not a bad hotel if you opt for the more expensive rooms; the standard ones are basic. Clean, staff OK, GF at the time. But. Location not so good IMO; on the end of soi 3, and the soi is one-way (or part of it) in the southern direction, towards Sukhumvit rd. And soi 4. That means going back to your hotel by motorised transport can be a hassle; most of the time they would go thru the sidestreet (soi 11) where the shorttime hotels are, and drop you off at the intersection with soi 3, from where it's still a stiff walk back.

They do have in house massage parlour and the services are hit and miss but if you so prefer they can provide services at your room.

I stayed at the SWISS PARK Hotel on Soi 11/1 (which is right after/before Soi 11). It's just 50 meters from the Sukhumvit Rd. I booked thru Agoda and requested a Superior Room with Double Bed. After I arrived around 4:30, the reception said they can't give a double bed for that day as all are booked... They will change the room the following day.

SWISS PARK is a Girl Friendly hotel, the girl just have to leave her ID with the reception which I think is fine for one's own safety.

The hotel has free wifi in the lobby. That means you have to come down the elevator with your laptop and power cord.

The view is nothing spectacular. The room is not big. The breakfast is allright as there are plenty of foods.

For someone thinking of saving some baht, this is an ok hotel.

i wouldnt pay a penny in advance, anywhere, regardless of the deal. the no refunds bit is also unacceptable.
the most i would ever do is give my card number over to secure a reservation, knowing that if i cancel i might lose one night, but not if i do it well enough in advance.
plenty of other places around, all doing deals, so skip that one.

Good rate to be had on my favourite Suk hideaway. Spacious studio apt, plus free internet and breakfast (for 2! ) for 1414THB plus service plus VAT (12% total). You have to pay in advance so depends on how flexible you are. For the odd weekend away, this place is ideal.

Some might find a little far down the soi, but a 10 baht motorbike gets you there in under a minute. Reach the end of the soi, and you are right by Nana BTS. Cross the road and you're on Soi 8. Walking distance to both Cowboy and NP. I love this place!

Is it GF? Very!

Is it GF? Very! The staff was excellent on my stay also.

I enjoyed this hotel very much.

Looking for a hotel that offer something like that of Grand President hotel package of airport pick up, 3 days 2 nights, free internet and breakfast. If you know of a similar hotel, please advise. Price was like 5000 B for the whole deal. Good hotel but want to try something new, especially around Soi Cowboy.

Wotif secret deal: Grand Millennium Sukhumvit

Soi Cowboy, MRT, BTS, all 1-3 minutes walk, even totally fucked up. Five star digs.

Normal price: 4473++ Baht
Wotif secret deal: 2499 w/o brkfst. W/brkfst add 500 Baht (normally 800 Baht) Wotif charges a 150 Baht total booking fee for entire stay, no matter how long.
http://www.wotif.com/hotel/View?hotel=W51807&page=1&viewType=all&refId=65662

Usually at the Millennium you have to pay 440 Baht/day for regular biz class Internet, 2.6Mb. Here is a way to make it all better: Book Wotif deal, check in, ask for room upgrade, pay 350 Baht extra and get a larger high floor room, then you get free VIP class 14.4Mb Internet, monster floor to ceiling mirrors next to the bed, huge bathroom, and a 15% off coffee shop coupon.

HiSo hotel: Thai chicks brag to everybody and you fast track the hot shit list.

Guest friendly.

Good deal.

If this is a HiSo hotel, where do you normally stay?In Thailand? At my house in Phuket. In BKK? My condo, with all this antique samurai shit under glass that I really don't want to part with.

OK. I book stuff for friends & clients visiting, (and for myself when I meet a chick that hasn't been cleared to go to my place yet.) This Wotif secret was a total shot in the dark, blind roll of the dice, and it really was a great deal.

Marriott or Centre Points get the call normally (member of both,) and I usually get an outstanding deal on those as well.

If you need more Millennium info, here:

http://www.millenniumhotels.com/th/grandmillenniumsukhumvitbangkok/

I don't like many of the 5 star hotels in central BKK: Conrad, Swissotel Nai Lert, the Intercon, Emporium, Lebua, Ma Du Zi, Banyan, and the Westin, all remind me of why I left the USA 26 years ago. Stuffy snotty fucks all, and really not all that nice. Also, IMHO, all those so called 4 star places around Soi 4, 6, 8, 11, etc.= Not freaking bloody likely either.

Go ahead call me a snob, you did ask though.

For my guys, it's the Grande Centre Point Ratchadamri one bedroom, or Marriott Sathorn Exec floor one bedroom, those are the ones I use for friends and clients the most. Both classy, extremely attentive, and blind eye guest friendly. ;)

BTW: The brunch at the Millennium yesterday was outstanding, starting with single ice blocked Estonian vodka and Caspian Sea caviar, (all you can consume of course) and ending with a very nice flourish, an ice cream chef that hand dips custom colors & flavors with nuts & hand made whipped cream to resemble popular sushi. (You get your own personal guide and sommelier to show you what's what throughout.) Lots of outstanding imported seafood and chops. Rack of lamb, Beef Bourguignon made with real French Burgundy, and two prime rib stations, one "bleu" (still mooing) and one medium rare+. Many customizable salad and bread combinations as well. Lots of snarky looking Japanese dudes there with haughtily creeped out over the top gelled spiky hairdos, their golf club bags awaiting in the foyer.

The Soi Cowboy chicks love the Millennium (normally going to some ST hotel or to some dump on Soi 11.) It's just 3 minutes walk from the front door of the bar.

I do admit that the carpets in the rooms at the Grand Millennium have become a bit tatty, (Asians are very abusive) but the amenities make up for it, and for 2499 Baht, I am not looking too closely for flaws that I won't see when I'm toasted and those finely tuned and highlighted bed nightlights are low. Heh.

Hope that answers it. Where do you stay?

My Soi Cowboy solo pull from Saturday night, tonight she gets to come to the condo:

I stay at the Westin, Sheraton or Meridien. All "blind eye guest friendly" in my experience. I haven't found them to be snobbish to me or my guests. I also wouldn't categorize them as HiSo which is why I was trying to understand better your comment.

I can't imagine a girl heading back to Soi Cowboy the next night 'he took me to the Sheraton' and all the girls drooling so I am not sure how staying in these places scores you big with the girls.

I second this - outstanding property, free wifi, good coffee shop (excellent pastries and cakes), lap size pool and good gym, really nice rooms. And close to BTS, MBK, Siam Paragon (all the hi-so hotties :) )

Just a little pricier than the standard Sukhumvit haunts.

Barko,

Thanks, I made my Millenium Booking for very near future.
Look forward to taking my girl to the sumptuous feast too.

Its also a pleasure to read post from you in basically normal English for a normal subject. I don't miss all that hyped up funny talk (I don't even know what its called) ;)

Will shortly be in Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son, so might be looking for special things out of ordinary for "pai thiao" in a non mongering sense. Probably have done most of the standard Touristy things in Chiang Mai.
Any special suggestions?

Obviously my girl will want to see the baby Panda.

In Mae Hong Sorn we go for the spectacular Calcite crystal cave Tham Kaew Komol and visit also Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu.

Sorry folks, I probably should move some of this post to Chiang Mai thread, but as it doesn't relate to sex mongering, thought no harm to leave it here.

As I am the Rabbit, I know the girls call you the Panda. So as a point of clarification.... your girl will want to see your baby panda or she will only want to see the newborn panda in the zoo?

:D :D

I liked Baantawai (seen it spelled baantawai and Ban Tawai) have you hit that up yet? South West... down Chiangmai - Hod Rd (Rt 108)

The zoo of course!
There's nothing baby sized about me. ;)

Not an elephant, not a mouse, so Panda is about right.

I have done handicrafts places before.
I have to stay absolutely clear of any Jewelery places of course!

do you know if there is an option to play a higher upgrade fee to an executive room with access to the lounge?hey rambis,

i'll just bet that there is. be prepared to pay an extra 1100 baht or more though. i have a buddy going in there later this week, will have him do a check.

keep in mind that using the other wotif secret deal available on that page (for 2999 baht) really is a great deal too, this has breakfast for two included, normally it's 800 per person.

btw, the executive lounge did have some real cute attendants when i checked it out and there was no one in there but the two girls and me, nice. but for some reason they didn't think i was very funny. until i came back dressed correctly. (very often i book stuff on the fly and seriously at the last second, no time to print out a voucher for the front desk. so i talk them into letting me use the exec lounge to print the thing, and the receptionist powers up my normal keycard to give me exec floor access. heh. all i really need is the booking #, which i could easily write down, but this gives me club access. am i bad or what? )

the exec club rooms are exactly the same as the grand deluxe, just on the exec floor. if you plan on using their computers, don't, they are the slowest clunky junkers in bangkok. very nice laser printers however.

all grand deluxe rooms have blisteringly fast internet, download speeds are sensational, but ftp uploads are seriously in the upper stratosphere for thailand: i was doing 1 gig zip files, five at a time, every 20 minutes. hello, that's fifteen gigs an hour. uploads? this alone is a great reason to stay there. hell, this alone is a great reason to live there!

more later.

Barko,

Thanks, I made my Millenium Booking for very near future.
Look forward to taking my girl to the sumptuous feast too.

The room has been good. Very comfortable beds and good view.

The evening buffet fell a bit short. I have had significantly better at lesser Hotels, like Century Park. Perhaps due to low season, the sushi was a bit inadequate, for example. My GF got all 5 Salmon slices and they did not replenish them later. I had to fall back to Tuna. They did have that silly crab-stick stuff (a bit low class for the sushi).
Some salads were good.
Did not seem to have any roasts. For hot food there was a fairly limited selection each of Chinese, Thai, Indian and Western dishes, cooked on request. GF had some Duck, I had fish which was rather ordinary.
Deserts were probably the best part.

Hey Mick, did you go for the 1700 Baht per person Sunday brunch? IMHO, the normal buffet isn't anything to write home about and after perusing it on Saturday evening, we simply gave it a pass. Sunday is the day. Using the hotel guest discount, the 15% off coupon, and skipping the wine, you can get it down to 1100 Baht. Still pricey, but good. We just went whole hog with the thing, teased the wait staff & some of the patrons quite a bit, and enjoyed that couple of hours immensely.

Oh well, next up is a test run of the Column Residence, it's just down the street and across Suk. Reviews say that the rooms are super nice. (Not Compass or Accor) Just hope it's GF!

Is it worth the little more it costs to book a Grande Deluxe room vs. the Deluxe room? I think it only costs like $6 more, but is it worth the difference?

Thanks

RambisUpgrade confirmed: 1100 Baht upgrade to Executive Club floor. Wotif secret deal = 2499 Baht + 1100 Baht Exec upgrade = 3599 (+120 Baht booking fee for entire stay) Includes breakfast, Internet, free stuff in the Club lounge all day, and a free evening cocktail for two.

Compare to the Grand Millennium online booking Exec Club rate = 6238 Baht. (5300B + 938Tax)

That's a savings of over 2500 Baht per night. Not bad! ;)

Grand President..... got a good rate with deluxe suite at grand president. Registered as Guest with MULTIPLE friends... not kidding, told them upfront will have a lot of people over in Tower 2. So far NO girl has been asked for ID or stopped or question. After two days, currently 4 girls have keys to my room and then I have one also. Have three girls staying full time in the room, the maid with nice tip is giving us 5 towels a day and changing the bed sheets as often as we ask.

It is an old hotel but so far... they just laugh at me walking in with three to five girls at a time.
