Contrary to what many farangs think. It is acceptable for an educated Thai woman from a good family to marry a farang. As long as he has class, a good job or a lot of money, and status.
Take a look at Miss Universe 1988 Poy (a Thai) she married one of the Simon brothers (the family that owns the Mall of America in bloomington, MN. They had a huge wedding here in Thailand and no frowned on this.
There are many actors and actress who are mixed. Yes, babies of farangs and Thai are highly regarded because of their white skin and foreign looks.
In a conversation I had with a regular non working Thai girl, she told me that she and her friends are open to the idea of marrying a farang.
Everyone has to keep in mind that the majority of the population does not know about a go go bar, Nana, soi cowboy, or soapie massages. So they do not have the negative image of farang coming to Thailand only to buy sex. There are many people here on work visas working for large multi-nationals companies, so the majority of the Thai's think you're here for the forces of good.

When I arrived here 13 years ago, it was most definitely true that generally all Thais would assume a Thai girl with a Farang was a hooker.
But, as far more expats have come here to work and more significantly in my view, more Western students have come here to study, I think this automatic assumption is not the case anymore. But, it depends largely on how the Farang looks and acts, and more importantly, how the girl looks and acts.
While it may still be somewhat unusual for a regular 20-something TG to willingly want to be with a 40-50+ Farang guy, it happens more frequently than one would imagine. I'm a case in point and I don't think I'm atypical.
Still, it is true that the vast majority of young girls you see with older Farang are P4P or ex-P4P, because you're right, it's just easier for most guys. It's a challenge getting a regular Thai GF, and thus P4P is definitely the path of least resistance.

Surely it is also a major challenge to his finding much in common with her; a challenge putting up with all her juvenile nonsense; a challenge to the balance of his bank account; and a challenge to keep from being, (apart from the sex), bored to complete distraction in her constant presence.

When I lived in Thailand, 1985-1995, I had a middle class Thai girlfriend. We lived together for 4 years. She worked for a foreign company and I did not give her any money every month albeit I did pay for everything else. She wanted the "better things in life", e.g. branded handbags, her own car (I paid the downpayment, she paid the installments), etc. and since she was with a farang that could afford these things, she expected them for face. We finally broke up since I would not agree to marry her. I was 40, she was 26.
Now, I find myself 14 years later, over 50, falling in love (or lust) with a TG from a poor upcountry family, also 26 yo. She has a normal job and Thai boyfriend in Bangkok which she leaves for Pattaya in seach of fortune to support her whole family. She arrives during the peak season and makes very good money. Although it has only been a few months, she has already become accustomed to the easy money, WG comradery and partying every night. Although I tried to convince her otherwise from the very beginning, I doubt she will ever go back to a normal life and job even though she is a college graduate. I offered her the same deal as I had before, find another normal job and I will pay everything else. She refused. Why would a Thai guy do an old lady like that? They have much better options. The vast majority of Thai guys have no interest in old women, and demand (and easily get) sweet young stuff. Basically if it weren't for foreigners or a few oddball Thais who like older women these ladies would never get laid.
I know several ladies of this sort, and they virtually never get any interest from Thai guys. On the rare occasion they do, it would only be a married guy, and only the most fleeting and humiliating of associations. Really their situation is pretty awful.
Of course the one caveat is that each and every Thai woman will only (very strictly) give it up to a man who is her social superior or equal. These old middle class broads in their 30s and 40s could of course easily get poor men to service them, but such an arrangement has no appeal to women anywhere, least of all Thais.

Yes, they have regular jobs or are business women but I think most are looking for more than the sex. I am not sure I would describe them as only a "fuck buddy". These are women that I have met over the years in my travels around Asia. Most of them I've met through my business rather than in clubs or bars. They are between 30-40 yo. When I am in country, we spend time together in and out of the bedroom. I guess you would call it dating. I imagine they are hoping for marriage but I try to avoid the subject. One of them in Japan and another in China did get married last year. I need to find replacements. In most of Asia, an age difference of 15-20 years is not a big deal to a lot of women. When it is over 20 years difference or if the girl is younger than 30, it can become an issue.

This is just an addendum to my former post, because I started to think about why Chaz didn't beleive me. I still really don't know why. But. I was only telling this story so that you guys could have a good laugh on my behalf. So why lie?
Well anyway, I need to clarify some things about my ex-thai-girlfriend.
- She NEVER lived on a farm (except holidays)
- She IS from a middleclass Bangkok family (her father and mother are divorced, but both live in their own fairly big townhouses in the city center)
- They STILL ask for money. Even at middleclass level. They must have thought that I was ULTRA rich.
- She has lied about almost everything about her past.
- She was married to another farang when I met her
- She has told me that she was thrown out by her mother when she was 15 and therefore has difficulties in committing to other people.(which I now beleive)

My instincts and my experience in Thailand tell me that at some point in the future she will be back asking for money to support the child you assume is yours. That is when you start playing hardball, first by demanding a paternity test and, if the child is yours (or even if you don't care about that) visiting rights.
By showing your sensitivity and concern to this woman you seem to be attempting to appeal to her like you would a Western woman. You could'nt be more right. I also think this is why I in the first place wanted to tell you guys my story. I guess I am the product of my mother's damn "be-a-man-like-a-girl-thinks-a-man-should-be" upbringing. LOL

I finally had a long talk with her and made her calm down and she admitted that it was all (the pregnancy part) a desperate lie from her.
She is so fucking stupid. She made a contract with the escortagency that will bind her for years and years with the threat of them (escortagency) exposing her work to family, friends and normal work colleagues if she does not fulfill the contract. She said something about that she got 40000 baht up front to sign a contract that she would at least bring back 1.500.000 baht to the agency the next year or two. Wow. I agree 100% and 99.9999999% of the people that read this board do not get to know traditional thai women. I now know, after many years working and making mistakes in BKK, many women that share intimate details with me, we do things with, talk all the time, but no way are they putting out until after marriage and many are older already and are OK with working and staying single.
Now saying this there are many ladies on web sites that will put out first date no problem. But these I would not classify as traditional girls. If they are advertising on the web I would have a hard time as considering them normal or traditional thai girls still.

But I suggest you go to www.thailandguru.com there is lots of advice there.
Look on the left, towards the bottom, for Thai girlfriends or something like that.
For me, the rules are simple.
Treat them like you would treat a first date in your own country.
Dress well, I prefer to meet them in a neutral plac like a coffee shop or restaurant near my hotel.
Be courteous, be attentive. Many Thai women do not drink alcohol, so don't press it if she says no.
There gets to be a point in the meeting where conversation dies out, and you are both just sitting there. At this time I ask her "what do you want to do now?". Often she will say go to your room. or maybe if you think she is really interested, ask if she wants to watch some TV in your room. Move slowly, by this time she is pretty much committed, but will still be very nervous. Don't push her.
And Thai women tend to not take the initiatie - it is part of their culture. So you will have to initiate everything.
Remember, if she is a regular Thai woman, this is probably her first experience with a farang, so she is probably a bit nervous too. And she has heard all sorts of stories about farang monsters, or farangs eating babies, etc.
But I have had them come with me on the first date. very nervous about penis size, and if you will hurt them.
One spoke very little English, but I had been introduced by a friend, who came with us to dinner, and acted as interpreter for that evening. She came with me first time, and stayed overnight. He told me that other than a few gifts he brings when he visits them upcountry, he has not given them any money since he paid the 40,000 baht dowry when he got married. He told me the in-laws are just OK financially so it is not necessary. And, he has not taken any money from his kids even though they are both working in good jobs.
I met up with LBM in Pattaya recently and he suggested that I read "Thailand Fever" since I am contemplating a relationship with a TG. Although I was already familiar with most of the content having lived in and visited Thailand for nearly 30 years, it offers good insight for a newbie on the scene. A lot of the book talks about the "generousity" concept and how family support is an integral part of any relationship with a TG. It was interesting to hear that my driver did not support his in-laws, build a house, put the brother-in-law in business, etc. I do not have many normal close Thai friends now since I am just in and out for the most part in recent years. I would be curious to know if the same applies in normal Thai society with Thai-Thai relationships nowadays.

You truly have raised a keypoint when it comes to deciding on a close relationaship with a TG.
Have lived many years in the kingdom and can tell you there are only two classes of society in Thailand. The normal, hardworking, moderate and satisfied and the other being vulture culture, sanook, I. E live to have fun.(whatever that takes to get there)
There is nothing like Rich, middle or poor.
Family values exist but should be seen and learnt from the former and surely not from the latter.
The males are more docile, unfaithful and cold in the latter category and the males are responsible, caring and providing in the former category.
Probably decades of easy money via tourism has created an easy channel for the females in the latter class and they will take advantage of this to the hilt. Probably this economic downturn might give them a wakeup call but all said and done they will be back to their old ways when things get back to normal.
To get into a relationship with a TG (those that one encounters as freelancers or whatover) is like trying to make a horse drink water!
The horse could be guided to the water but will only drink when its thirsty!

You should have ask me the question last week and I would have told you these two stories that I got from my wife just this year and I have known this two Thai guys for many years and sit with them at least once a week over a Leo beer.
Thai guy number #1, works in a body shop and has a wife from Issan, this is her second marriage she has already 1 kid. The kid is being raised by her mother and sister while she lives in Pattaya. Everytime she gets a small job or comes up with a idea to make some money for herself, the husband degrades her. That why waste your time doing this or that the job doesn't pay enough you should be getting more. They both sleep in a small room at the body shop and pay nothing. The place is so dirty you couldn't pay me to stay there even for one night. After his shift, he goes play snooker and drink beer everynight although he makes around 10,000 baht per month. Recently the wife had to return back to Issan to take care of the mother since she has cancer. The husband even before the mother got sick has never given his wife any money to help with her family. I was told he even complains that his wife isn't taking care of his manly needs instead left to take care of the mother. After a year of this she finally dumped him and he has a new girlfriend.
Thai guy number #2, This guy is the owner of the body shop and his wife runs a local snooker hangout and they both live in the back of the snooker parlor. This guy I have known for 8 years and I always felt he was a good straight up guy that I though was pretty responsible. They are our closest Thai friends their son is my son best friends and we share many outings together and he always pays his fair share. This April, when I was invited to visit the wife parents home I noticed some tension between the husband and his inlaws. I got this from the half ass Wat that the father-inlaw gave to his son-inlaw. I learn later that he got their daughter pregnant and refuses even today to marry her legally and the son doesn't even have his name. Everything he makes he keeps to himself and everything she makes from the snooker parlor she keeps and help her own family.
These two stories are just stories in general and I have been told that not all Thai's are like this but personally I have not met one!

There is a double standard going on here if a Farang say no and doesn't do it, they are cheap, and don't care about their family even if the Farang is telling the truth that their broke. When Farangs come to Thailand on holidays and ring up bar taps, have money for a nice cup of coffee at Starbucks, spend 500 baht at MK, just for lunch when the average poor Thai, average a 100 baht for meals a day! When you tell them you don't have money they just smile and deep down under their breath they're saying and thinking YEH RIGHT! YOU CHEAP FUCKING BASTARD!

I don't have any Thai friends so I am not sure if the support thing is a purely farang-only feature. But with that said, I am sure that Farangs are viewed as being billionaires and therefore it is quite natural that we are cheeap charlies when we don't pay up what is expected of us.
Each time I was in BKK to visit my GF's family we went out to a restaurant the whole family, about 6-7 people, where the tab off course landed in front of me everytime. I didn't really care, cause the 7-8000 baht tab was nothing compared to a normal dinner for 2 in scandinavia. And the food was good, my GF was proud and happy and her family seemed happy. Her mother would constantly ask for money for her temple (1-2000 baht) and I payed her, well knowing that her mother would gamble the money away as soon as I turned my back to her. All this I considered payment to spend some "respect" time with her family and what the hell. I got to bang her 23 yr old daughter. So I guess I never thought further about that. Her father was more direct in demanding money (cash) from me. So I categorily declined. As a principle.
Her Thai friends also expected me to pay for entrance fees, booze and food when we entered nightclubs etc. But again a small cost, I thought, to bang her when we came home.
My GF never asked for money to send home to her family. And I never gave her any. She was also the youngest child of 4 so she did not have the big sister" responsibility, I guess.
The TGF I had before this one was quite different, because she was the big sister in her family and had to support her lazy father, grandfather, brothers and sisters. But she was open about this and told me too. I hate lazy people, so I could see my frustations in the future about sendning money to her family.
To sum up, with my very limited experiences, and what has said before many times on this board. TGF view farangs as ATM's and as lottery tickets with a guaranteed prize. Some of these girls have obligations to support their family, some don't. You can choose to accept that or not. So true. This time in LOS I took a girl from a bar in a very quiet beach place I was staying at (not many bars, even fewer pretty girls). It seems that with the bar girls it's difficult. If you meet a Thai lady outside the bar scene, I've noticed a lot of differences.
My, now, wife, was a teacher, married a Thai guy who brought her to the US. He died and we met.
She has worked two jobs (one full time, one part) until only recently, and has found time to go to school part time.
Her Mom does live with us, but does all the cooking, laundry and cleaning. We each give her $100 per month and of course take her when we go out to dinner (usually).
She pays part of our household bills, and times out, and buys stuff for the house.

OK, so she did not graduate from Chula but she does have a 4 year degree from a Central Thailand university. As is typical, her English reading and writing skills are far better than speaking. I speak with her in Thai.

Just an update on my sponsorship question a few months ago...
The reason I had asked about sponsorship is that I had met a girl in a bar in Pattaya the first day on the job. I am relatively certain it was really her first day. Just broke up with Thai b/f and had an aunt working in Pattaya.
I think I got hooked because of the fantasy of the first farang scenario.
As LBM told me when we had breakfast in Pattaya last month, every farang always says, "My girl is different".
Fortunately, I never made the mistake of sending any money, but I did visit every month or so since January and paid her when I was with her at normal rates.
When I first met her, she would have accepted 10k per month. After the first month in Pattaya, she wanted 20k per month. Now, she wants 30k per month, plus a new house for mom, etc. It is based on her earning potential Evidently, she prefers to sleep with a different guy every day for the same amount of money hoping she will meet a "fool" in shining armor to give her everything she wants.
As expected, the longer she stays in Pattaya, the more hardcore and cunning she gets. The last time I was with her was not very enjoyable.
As the relationship comes to an end, I have learned again that they are all the same and consider farangs to be nothing more than an ATM machine. This has been posted too many times to count, however, we will always have those that think, "My girl is different". The truth is that we are fooling ourselves.

She is 26. I agree that the older they get, the more practical. Case in point is another good friend of mine that retired in Pattaya at 65. He had a good savings and a nice pension. He met a girl over 30 and asked her to live with him. She stayed and took great care of him until he died at 76. That said, he bought her a house, a car and invited her teenage son to stay with them. I am not sure how much he gave her every month.
I still think it is up to earning potential. There was another girl in the same bar where my girl worked that was also 30+. A couple of beers later and we were fooling around and she had her hand in my pants. When I started to make the move for the bed, she asked me for 3,000 Baht. I asked her what kind of girl she was. She felt guilty and finished me off with a HJ. I gave her taxi fare (120 Baht) and sent her on her way. I reckon she just figured that farangs were ATM machines and if she was going to let me do her on the first date, I should pay her for it.
I draw the line at 30. If the girl is over 30, I reckon I should not have to pay or support. There are plenty of freebies out there in this category.

The only thing that you might have done on your last date was not pay enough attention to her. Ran into a former Regular massage girl and we chatted a bit...

She probably meant both - the great majority of farang living in Thailand make far less than the tourist visitors. Teachers are a majority of working expats, and make only around 30-40 thousand baht per month. Most of the rest are retirees, whose wealth is of course highly variable from one to the next.

You're right on this one. I know another expression where "หํา" (ham -> dick) is used instead of "ไข่หํา" (khay ham -> testicles), but here, it's more likely "strong dick" than "hard balls", indeed. In my limited knowledge of Thai slang, "ควย" (khwuai) is more often used for speaking about the penis (cock, dick, etc.).

You are talking about hilly Central Thailand. While many people of other ethnic groups have migrated there (especially Isaan Laos to do the work) that area is the home of people who mostly consider themselves ethnic Thai (true ethnic origin of these people open to probably unresolvable dispute). Over the past 20 years I have come to the conclusion that in Thailand the most classically beautiful girls are from what I call the "3 P Triangle"- Phitsanulok, Phichit, Phetchabun. There is more Lao mixed in when you get closer to Phetchabun, while the other two are very much Thai cities (some Thais even reflexively place Phetchabun in Isaan, but it isn't). Phichit in particular seems to provide an inordinate number of really beautiful women who are, as you note, clearly different in appearance from Lao and Khmer women. They are also in my experience the most difficult, and Central Thais in general tend to be much more arrogant and mercenary than other Thais, save the Chinese.
On the hand, (also obviously just my opinion) I find the Khmer women to be the sexiest, most passionate and most honest. When actual Khmer native speakers their accents in English are much easier to comprehend than Thai or Lao speakers' accents (more clipped than sing-song, Khmer being a non-tonal language). Woman lied to boyfriend over visit to fiancé

A Thai woman was already living with her new Canadian boyfriend in Bangkok when she visited her former fiancé in Los Angeles in December 2007, a B. C. Supreme Court trial in Victoria heard Tuesday.
Tensions were running high at David Goldberg's attempted murder trial as defence lawyer Ray Dieno began his cross-examination of Goldberg's exfiancée, Tatcha Aroonjaratsang.
Goldberg, a former Boeing engineer, is charged with the attempted murder of Aroonjaratsang and her husband, Jeremy Walsh, in Saanich on the night of Sept. 24, 2008. Goldberg is also charged with possessing explosive materials.
"You played Mr. Goldberg like a dupe," Dieno said, raising his voice."You took his money."
When prosecutor Nils Jensen objected to Dieno's treatment of the witness, Justice Geoffrey Gaul told Dieno that the loud voice was not necessary.
"You met Jeremy in November and you played Mr. Goldberg like a dupe," the defence lawyer continued.
Aroonjaratsang, a petite woman with long, dark hair, shook her head.
"No, I didn't do anything to him. I planned to have a good relationship with him and he showed me living with him wasn't good for me."
The court has heard that Aroonjaratsang and Goldberg met online in July 2007 and became engaged on Sept. 22, 2007, in a traditional ceremony in Thailand. Following Thai custom, Goldberg gave Aroonjaratsang's mother $27, 000 in gold bars as an engagement present.
Dieno suggested Aroonjaratsang was looking for a relationship to escape Thailand. He accused her of breaching her betrothal to Goldberg and continuing to take his money after she met Walsh in November.
"Yes, I took some. But not the big one," she replied.
In December 2007, Goldberg paid for her plane ticket to Los Angeles where she stayed at his apartment, went skiing and travelled to Hearst Castle. Goldberg also bought her a cat, said Dieno.
"And, all the while, Jeremy was back in Thailand waiting for you," Dieno said, throwing papers onto the defence desk.
At this point, Gaul interrupted the proceedings and told Dieno to refrain from throwing papers.
Aroonjaratsang testified she did not tell Walsh she was visiting Goldberg.
"We were really close. We were living together. I told him I was going to the USA to visit my mother's friend."
"You lied to Jeremy," said Dieno.
"Yes I did," she said.
Aroonjaratsang explained that she had told Goldberg she was seeing someone else, but he would not release her from the engagement.
"He insisted he wanted to see me in the States to make the decision. He wanted to make sure it was what I really wanted."
After visiting Goldberg, Aroonjaratsang broke off the engagement. She married Walsh in the spring of 2008.
As Dieno questioned Aroonjaratsang about a series of emails between her and Goldberg, the accused did not look up. He sat in the prisoner's box taking notes on a laptop computer.

Sometime on this board we have great reports on the psychology of Thai women, be them SW or not. Often these are quite young (sub-30 let's say) , I have to say that by now I kind of know what I'm doing, what they really want, including the fact they don't want me at all times.
But as I grow older I'm getting more intrigued with matures, I'm talking the hot ones even well in their forties. Often I find them much more attractive especially when well dressed and produced. Altough I have to say that so far sex has been better with the young ones I have a feeling that for some kind of long term relationship, an older one may work better. By the way I'm 47 looking a bit younger (hopefully). You think that an older Thai woman psychology is much different from a younger one? Logic would say so but what's your experience? Same thing for the local girls: a young tall slim fair-skinned university student originating from an upper-middle class family has much more value in Thailand than a mature dark-skinned undereducated mother coming from a poor rural village of Isaan. But how many farang in Thailand are dating or have dated a woman as such here or back home? When I entered into the debate I understood by "non-pro" we were talking about everyday office workers, nurses, schoolteachers, etc. I did not know the debate was to include college students who are driving their father's Rolls Royce or 25 year old corporate executives who are making millions of baht per year.
I am from an average middle class family and have noticed that for the most part people around the world date within their own socioeconomic group. I still hold fast to my observation, experience and hypothesis that a non-pro Thai woman is not as expensive as P4P. If a woman already comes from money why the hell would she need money and gifts from you? It seems to reason that whatever she wanted she could buy for herself or her family would provide for her.
Again, I have been coming to Thailand for 5 years and have been living here 1 year. I am not the settling down type, but of 3 non-pros who I have been involved with consistently over the last 4 years (one is in real estate, one is a school teacher, and one is a government worker) they have never once asked me for any money or any gifts, unless it was something small for their birthday. And even then they could care less what the present was. Sure they have told me many times that they want to marry me and I have told them just as many times that I don't want to get married. But I have never had any of them or any other non-pro ask me for money or gifts. I even have a friend who I have known for the same 4 years that wants me to make a baby with her, yet does not want me to support the baby, raise the baby or even see the baby thereafter.
To me asking for money or gifts is skating in P4P territory. And the several Thais that I have had this talk with have said the same. Maybe the guy starts off trying to play Mr. Big Money and is forced to stay the course. Maybe the girl is just a b*tch (read working girl) to begin with. If you run out of money and the woman is still with you then that is a non-pro. But if you run out of money or stop spending money and likewise went your Thai girl then she was never non-pro to begin with. She was with your money, not with you.

I just read and agree with your report. Any girl that asks or expects money or gifts is just in her mind (and ours) repositioning herself apart from the straight up Pros.
By seeking gifts (typically they are not so subtle) they satisfy themselves that they are not Prostitutes and I think it makes some of us feel better AND for those of us that have walked both sides of that fence do they not actually EXTRACT more money this way?

I live in Thailand. Unlike some other foreigners who do that, I have my (Thai) contacts mostly outside the bar scene and over the years have made a few very good Thai female friends. From all backgrounds, from the farm daughter from Isaan to a high-so ex GF.
They have told me many things about the Thai way of life and about how they see love, money, gifts, faith in a relationship etc.
Some of their comments can be eye openers for a few of you, so let me mention them. Mind you: this is NOT based on Thai woman with foreign man situations, but just on every day Thai life.
* Money and presents: in any relationship (love-sex or whatever) between a woman and (any-foreign or Thai) man, there are two options: or you go for the relationship or you go for the presents / money / taxi money whatever. In almost all cases, sex is not for free. The girl must always have some advantage from it.
Sex really for free happens only between two people of similar age and social status. The moment there is a difference in social status and the relationship is not the purpose, the something is expected. And mind you, if they do not ask for anything it is mostly out of modesty or shyness, not that it is not expected!
* Faith in a relationship: it is very hard to find here. They have a culture of having "gigs" (sex / fun partner without official relationship) many times besides the regular partner. It is very common for a Thai young girl to have an older (Thai) man to "take care" (meaning paying tuition, apartment or whatever) and one or more young guys for fun and love.
So the foreigner getting pissed off finding out his Thai GF has somebody else on the side."welcome to Thailand".

From your response I think we both can agree how large and complicated the problem has become. Within the conversation being thrown around and opinion I haven't heard any answers to my questions and that is why?
