Last month I was in Hanoi. What can I say? From my perspective, the prostitutes not worth there. For an experienced visitor or with a good guide that certainly looks different. There is too much cheating and the performance is mostly very bad (sorry, I use the Google Translater).

You can walk from Hoan Kiem lake along the Trang Tien Street towards opera (red circle). After crossing the Tran Khanh Du Street, check out some street hookers (red cross and Hong Ha Street). The ones on banhmy, you have to register with them first and then do a payment by phone card, which is often about 10% of whatever price is being charged for the service. That one is tricky to figure out. For some other sites like this that do include the phone numbers, go to danchoi.xxx or danchoiviet.net (actually that last one you have to register but the phone numbers are free if you're signed in).
Googling "gai goi" will bring up others.

Search under Gai Goi (literally, Girls Call) or Dan Choi (literally, Mongers). The police shut down these sites frequently, but they usually pop up again under different URL within a few days. I have done it a few times in both Hanoi and HCMC.
Their reviews use a fairly standard format. You can see the pictures. Translate it and you will have a rough ideas what they talk about with the girls' TEL and a passwords.
Most won't speak English. You may want to print out the reviews and ask one of the English-speaking hotel guys to talk to the girls to set up the deals and to give them the hotel address etc. They may ask for a moto ride surcharge if you are far from their normal operating areas.
Promise the hotel guy a tip to be paid after a smooth encounter, so he can keep the girls under control. Ask him to vet the reviews for any potential set up or entrapment.

These places are open from 7 pm until midnight..When my cousin visited me last year in Hanoi we went to check out those Japanese KTV's near Kim Ma. This type of lounges designed for the mid-high level Japanese business mans with fat wallets. I and my cousin go into one place like this. With the entrance plus 3-4 drinks the bill ended up 150 usd. And we just sit with the girls and only allowed to touch them. When the place closed at midnight we wanted to take the girls into hotel and the mama san explained we have to become a member of the place first (minimum two more visit) than the girls will "love" us and we can take them to hotel. I also asked how much is cost if we are so deeply in love, and the answer was 200 for ST and 500 for LT.
So these places I think the biggest rip off in the city. For Japanese is still cheap because back to Japan this kind of fun is cost much more than this, but for everyone else who looking for high class service better to go to Hanoi Hotel or Fortuna Hotel. There you can get everything for max 200 usd or even cheaper, and don't need any bullshit membership.

There's a website named Hanoi maxa, which is a kind of escort / massage service, they advertise 4 or 5 girls who look like hot and appealing.
The price is quite high but still affordable for an escort kind of thing, 130 usd or 2.8 mln vnd for 90 mn and 2 shots.

Thanks a lot!To be honest the answer to that question has more to do with your budget than availability of options. Hanoi is not spread out like HCMC and so even with the traffic, nowhere is too far away.
You basically have two choices; The Old Quarter or Westlake. If you're budget concious then there are plenty of options ranging from dirt cheap to mid-range available to you, if you are more business budget traveller then there are a few more up-market options around Westlake. There are plenty of massage options within walking distance of both areas and only a short distance between the areas themselves.
I'd suggest looking on something like trip advisor to choose which hotel you want to stay at and read back through the forum with Google Maps open to look up streest to see if you have a preference for one area or the other.
My advice is never, ever use these girls.

In foreign countries, you should never go with any girls to their homes or hotels. It's usually a set up. I've known a few guys who got talked into goping into a dark alley where they were beaten by a few thugs and robbed of everything.
Moto girls are mostly heavy drugs addicts. They would steal from anyone to get their fix. They would even set up, rob and beat up local guys, knowing they may be found and savagely beaten in revenge later.
Moto girls in HCMC are even worse.
It may be better to call girls in internet ads to your hotel. Hide all your valuables then ask your hotel guys to do the negotiation and take down their ID's before going into the rooms. That way they are less likely to steal or rob.

Unfortnately looks like the good old days of 200 k BJs in this ST are coming to an end. Drove past today and 50-60 % of the places were closed and many of the remainder had the signs removed. Just get yourself a SIM card (mobiphone is the one I like because its unlimited 3 G) and download the google translate app. The use short phrases and translate them into vietnamese. YOu can use wechat or SMS, or if you are there with the girl, just show her the translation on your phone. I do this in Haiphong and works like a charm. By the way, they all know what boom boom means.
You can get a sim at the airport or at many, many shops..just show them your phone and say "mobiphone", about 150-200K (which is about 7-10USD), cheap

Wechat. Hit and miss, overall, don't recommend. Prices similar to or significantly higher than saunas / massages (and they are firm on the prices), usually starting at 1 million or 1.5 million. I had one good quality, one average quality, and one that I'm pretty sure was a ladyboy, asked for money upfront, then ran away (I didn't try to keep him / her because I realized that it was a ladyboy). I am in HCMC now and has been using a young driver to go around town. He's a monger himself so he knows all the hot spots.

Go to the ST hotel specified by your favorite girl during their work hours. Ask the door men to call a few girls. The girls all know these hotels and will go to the one you choose.

OK, I've been RTFF for a few weeks pulling information together for my cherry trip to Vietnam. I'll be arriving to Hanoi, and my current plan is to spend only one or at the most 2 nights in Hanoi before heading to Haiphong and Do Son for some days, then off to other places. Thanks to the many excellent informative postings here from MC, Wendella, Luke, and a bunch of the other senior fellows, I have a pretty good idea of what to expect, what to pay, where to find it, etc. I'll be traveling solo, and although I do enjoy having a wingman, such can go sour easily when the unexpected occurs (or can save your butt when the unexpected happens also).
I have been searching for a hotel for my first night on arrival from the airport around midday, and although many are listed here, due to local traffic / taxi / transport etc logistics it is unclear to me what would be the most convenient location to book my hotel (I only book the first night or at most 2, then wing it as I find stuff on location). After a very long trip from North America, I'll be pretty wiped, so need to chill for a bit of time on arrival, meaning easy / straightforward finding and check-in processes, good A/C (though maybe not needed the last week in October?) comfortable bed, and I usually like a hotel with a safe in the room although I do understand in Hanoi I would be unlikely to bring a girl back to my main room (ST hotels used). Unless one of the hotel with onsite clubs / discos / KTV where you can bring a girl upstairs, although that is usually pretty expensive (and then a safe is absolutely a requirement). Note that I speak zero Vietnamese, although I do speak broken mandarin, and a smattering of European languages (fluent in English).
So any recommendations for a well-located hotel with these kinds of characteristics would be much appreciated. Note I get all the basic info (rates, amenities, etc) from the booking sites; here I am looking for easy availability and convenience for our hobby, transportation convenience, etc. - intel from on the ground. But of course, the first night of arrival, I am not at my best due to the nightmare of economy air travel from one side of the planet to the other.

If it is not there, you can ride the free shuttle to the domestic terminal where you should be able to catch the VietJetAir shuttle for 40 k VND to the city. The shuttle should take you to the center of town near the lake Hoan Kiem. From where the shuttle drops you off there are many hotels around the lake within walking distance. Really cheap hotels are available near St Joseph's Cathedral not sure if any are GF but a lot of backpackers stay in this area and to the north of the lake. Note: cheap hotels usually don't have in-room safes. There are also some nice hotels such as Hilton and Sofitel Metropole within a short taxi ride or 10-15 min walk. Staying around here is convenient because you can catch the shuttle to / from the airport but it isn't that great for your hobby. If you read the forum you know that Hanoi isn't the easiest place to get FS. You can get massage with extras pretty easily. Those types of services are mainly available near the south end of West Lake (Ho Tay) on Thue Khue street. Not sure how much you want to spend on hotel but there are nice places to stay around West Lake. If you want FS you're better off using those forum sites with ads for girls. Usually girls will want you to meet them at hotels on the outskirts of town. This is far from Hoan Kiem area and West Lake but you can take a taxi for less than $10 USD. You will have a hard time communicating and negotiating a rendezvous though if you can't understand Vietnamese especially since everyone uses slang and abbreviations over text message. You could go to KTV like the one at Fortuna Hotel but no guarantee you are going to get anything except a really hefty bill for drinks. I think KTV are mostly scams and you are almost guaranteed to get scammed since you don't speak Vietnamese. Do Son is not that great and unless you are going to Haiphong anyways I wouldn't waste my spend with a special trip to Do Son. It is a sleepy beach town with a crappy beach and the quality of girls is mediocre. Cheap? Yes. High quality? Not really. Any girl that is reasonably hot will likely move to Hanoi or Saigon to work. In summary, Hanoi is not a really good place for your hobby. Instead of spending time and money going to Do Son or spinning your wheels in Hanoi, take a trip to Saigon and you will have much better options. If you have to be in Hanoi then the Sheraton is nice but really isolated. I haven't stayed at Sofitel or JW Marriott yet but I would like to at some point. I usually stay in cheap hotels around Hoan Kiem for convenience and value.

Good review. The cost of the massage place was probably around 120,000 dong. The tout probably got the rest or split it with his contact there like the front desk lady. So the girl basically worked for free. If you had money you should have gave her 300,000 dong. But if you looked like you had money or a newbie she would try for 500-1 million dong. If you go back without the tout and they remember you. Don't pay 500 again and be prepared to walk. In this situation refuse to pay more than 200,000 and be ready to walk. They will stop you. There is a reason there is no list of prices at these places. If you go back there which I don't recommend for your own safety. They will remember you and if that girl you did not pay sees you. You should have 300,000 ready to hand her before she goes crazy. If you can get the name and address of this place t would be great.

Good hotels are usually not girl friendly. I can't think of any that are exceptions to this rule in Hanoi.
There isn't really a SW scene that I know of. I've heard of some mentioned here in the forums but it seems to be transient and moves from place to place. Best place to find girls is to use one of those gai goi sites and text the girls. They will tell you where to meet.
The weather will be cool and damp. Southeast Asians consider this cold weather but it's nothing like Northeast US.

Visited Tiem Massage Sauna Ozawa (394 Tran Khat Chan), and was pleased with my experience. 500 k VND for the room, which included a steam shower (basically an enclosed and covered shower in your room with a steam machine) and a jetted bath tub where the girl shampoos and scrubs you.

I got in to the room and the girl took my clothes off and started to give me a massage, I told her we don't need to do the massage part lets get down to business, she said "do massage first" (which should have been a warning sign for me). Anyway, she put some cream on, gave me a really bad massage for 15 minutes, then pointed to my dick, I asked "Boom Boom?" she said ok give me tip, I gave her 500.000 dong. She kept her clothes and started giving me a hand job, and I moved in for more which she refused. I told her but we said "boom boom" and she kept denying it. I said this is too expensive for a hand-job, I'm not interested in that, can I have half of my money back and leave? (Which I did not expect to get by the way). She said "ok, wait here" and left the room. I got dressed in the meantime, and after about a minute 4 men entered my room and demanded that I pay more money. I asked why? Fortunately for me I had a little bit of foreign currency (about 300.000 dong more equivalent) that I gave them which seemed to satisfy them and they let me leave.
It feels like it could have gone a lot worse for me, and they didn't get away with too much money from me (like 100 USD in total?), what was worse was the feeling of helplessness you got when 4 pretty big men surrounding you in there when you were looking to have some fun.
So yeah, my misconception was that I thought as long as you were nice and generous it would just be easier for them to give you what you paid for instead of causing trouble for you.
I'm attaching a picture of the area in Hanoi where this happened, the store had a big yellow massage sign with maybe blue (text if I remember correctly. I wasn't that impressed with Vietnam to this point (I prefer Thailand 10 xx) this was probably the event that made me decide never to return there.
