Further to my earlier request for info.
When I was working in Vietnam a couple of years ago, it was essential to show marriage certificate for man and woman to book into one room.
I want to bring my gf from Phils for a vacation in Saigon in October.
Are there any hotels where we can book into one room, when we are not married, without paying for a second room? I expect that we will stay for about a week.

As for hotels in HCMC - RTFF and do some homework. Direct identification of hotels is not a good thing due to authority overview.

You wouldn't get any cheaper quote on here than from any travel agency in manila. I usually get my ticket from swagman, but you can walk about in Ermita and find many good travel offices. Swagman is Aussie owned, its prices are maybe 10 to 20 dollars above the Phil places but somehow I trust getting my credit card swipped by them. Depends on the season, I believe this is low, the round trip is about $350+
I tried asking about Tiger but after doing all the calculations plus overnight in Singapore, the number is almost the same as Vietnam Airlines, which is co-share with Philippines Airlines but it is a bit cheaper eventhough you are sitting on the same plane. Philippines airlines is unlike that of other Asian airlines when it comes to flight attendants. They model themselves after US airlines by hiring gargoyles. I know airlines food is bad enough, but don't look at them and eat at the same time. Dear Lord!
Also, remember that when comming back to the PIs, you must present to the ticketing agent your proof of a future exit ticket from the Philippines if you are not a Pinoy, otherwise they will ask you to buy a temporary ticket which can be refund later.
Since you bring your own Honey Ko, and you don't have to worry about the hunt, enjoy their coutry and cuisine which is fantastic. In case she misses the Philippines cuisine, they also have Pizza Hut and KFC here. haha

Well, I went with them and I must say that we had a good time in Cheers. At that point we were glad to find that this place was still open since we hit APo rather late and were still thirsty. Can't remember getting overcharged on drinks but maybe we were too drunk to notice. The girl I took from there was in the usual price league.

A group of people (big guy with bunch of girls) are in Apocalypse that try to get guys to go to their bar (Cheers) on Bui Vien Street when Apocalypse closes. Saw them talking with head manager so Apocalypse is supporting them/getting kick backs. Cheers is open all night. Went there, got over charged, offered drugs, etc. But is only place I know that is open all night. So, if you want to find a place to drink all night and don't mind the scamming.

There are truly sad stories out there from girls comming from poor provinces trying to scratch out a living in a jungle like HCM city. I guess you just have to use your instint to judge who's the actress and who isn't. Whatever the case, you know you did a good thing, but please, only once in a blue moon and refrain from cleaning out your bank account.
As much as I am a greedy SOB for lust, I still carry my humanistic side. I only donate through extra tipping for good performers. More seriously, if you want to make a micro difference to the poors, buy some lottery tickets from the elderly, handicapped, and children vendors. Most of these vendors come from far away provinces. They come to the city, band together, live like sardines in rentals, make 10% out of every ticket and survive.
I give the Viet government a standing ovation for being creative in trying to get rid of most beggers. Which many richer neighboring countries could not do. The ticket costs 5,000 dong and the reward is the equivalent of 30 thous US. I buy them and give them to the door man or the staff at the hotel, a great ice breaker hence more enthusiastic services.

We, Vietnamese, have a saying :" Đừng nghe cave kể chuyện, đừng nghe con nghiện trình bày" which means do not listen to $hore or addicts under any circumstances. The girl was taking advantage of you, period. She was probably laughing her way to the bank. Beautiful massage girls make averagely $1500 a month in a country where the avaerage GDP is only $400/year. The extra few hundred dollars to her (fictitious) parents may well be spent on an orphanage, instead. My 2 cents.

Even while I was giving this gal some extra money, I knew in the back of my mind that maybe I was being really foolish. But what the heck, I felt that I was doing something right, and so I decided to stick with my instincts.
Columpuss: Thanks for the really great suggestion about the lottery tickets. A lot of these folks in the city are genuinely poor -- and a lot of them are families of former South Vietnamese Army soldiers who were not allowed by the new regime after 1975 to get decent jobs or even send their kids to university. They're mostly living day to day. If I can help out a little, I'd feel less guilty.

After a quick check on the forum, I could find any discussion of this bar, at least by name. It is just down the street from the Sheraton, on the same side, and near HBT. I had a quick beer there, and the girls were prettier than, say, the old U2, and dressed in ao dia. I sensed they catered to an Asian crowd, but I couldn't really tell. They didn't push "go to hotel" and "buy me another drink" too hard either. Anyone have the inside scoop?

I am now in Ho Chi Minh City, visiting for work until Oct 19th. Ended up at a smaller hotel (not far from the Rex) that is probably not GF, as it is a SaigonTourist facility. I have RTFF back a ways, but am still somewhat intimidated (never mongered outside the US before). Don't want to get ripped off.
If someone is here and wants to give me any personal advice, please send me a PM! I am here with my boss and a co-worker, but can usually ditch them in the afternoons/evenings if necessary.

I have been back to VN many times and taken back many friends. Some have fallen for the sob stories. Everyone of these girls have a story. I am not telling you to be a dick but dont be a fool. Cafe Bida is otherwise known as Bar Saigon. It has a very nice selection of ladies who wear a modified Aoi Dai and a very accomodating mamasan who does her best to look after her girls and her customers. Regular rate for all night is VND1 mil but I usually buy the mama a drink whilst she makes the introductions. Many of the ladies are new and the deal is best struck with mama on the basis of payment on conclusion.

Motorbike accidents in the wet season are a way of life in Saigon. Fortunately they rarely go fast enough to do any real damage.

Cafe Bida is the name now adopted by the bar on Dong Khoi opposite the Grand Hotel. You go up an alley of motorbikes and upstairs to a pretty bad room which is only surpassed by the private room at the back. In 12 months I have seen one good girl there and she was hounded out by the other girls. She now works as a waitress in D11 and comes to look after me when I call.
The bar described by Berty is on Dong Do (Dong Du) about 30 m from Hai Bai Trung and has the gals in Aoi Dai as described by him and me. I know it as Bar Saigon but I should really go and check the name in daylight.
I was in the Bar Saigon on Dong Do last night. Had a business colleague in tow and he was a bit shocked by the aggression at Bar 51 so we wandered around the corner at about 10 pm and we were well primed after a few reds and some beer.

On reflection I must say that this is why I prefer to go hunting alone - go easy on the booze and set up an all night deal that works. I don't mind going bar hopping with the boys and having a few but I will normally then not bother with takeaway.

[No apology necessary Sudoz, although I just got an email from a third party that went on something of a wild goose chase, though no harm done. Yes, I was quoted 1 million. I think this place is something of a find compared to the high pressure joints. Are you aware of others? I sense this is because of an Asian clientele (Jap / Korean / Taiwan) although I really don't know much about these sort of cultural differences. Whatever the reason, I dig it.

About half the girls walking around D1 will respond to a 'good morning' and a smile and about half of those will give you a number or arrange to meet.
As for how long it takes for them to put out? Lets just say that these are like any other women and therefore quite variable.

Actually the easiest and only true freebies in my opinion in HCMC are Western girls 25 and over who live and work here.
Admittedly some of them aren't that attractive but even the hotter ones struggle to keep a boyfriend when up against so many beautiful Vietnamese girls.
If you're reasonably presentable, it is not so hard to bang some great free western girls as in the words of a recent conquest, a lot of her friends are desperate.
Possibly the definition of freebie is worth asking.
HCMC is a really great city for those who enjoy the thrill of the hunt and if you put in the time its not hard to get a genuine girlfriend relationship.
But I don't see these girls as freebies, more as non working girls. Girls who would never directly transact money for sex. As others have written, a true traditional Vietnamese girl from a middle class family will keep her legs closed until she's married.
But the wave of new modern girls are breaking out and there are plenty of opportunities for having fun with non working girls.

Ho Chi Minh was a blast. We did all the tourist crap and ended up at Apocalypse Now every night. We started at Saigon Saigon bar on top of the Caravelle hotel. She would direct us to all the working women. Back by the pool table is where most of the action in the pay for arena takes place. The Christmas period is a shopping spree as per everywhere but no special deal for nightlife. Never been there for New year.
The big celebration is TET (Chinese New Year) when people go home to family and those that are around party heard in the street. Some restaurants and stuff close for 3-4 days.
Saigon is packed and crazy fun from mid Dec through Chinese new year's eve which is about early Feb. Most are not Catholic and see Christmas and Western new year as the same even so they go out. Added to that many Viets abroad come home, especially single guys, taking advantage of the short holidays merging with their vacation time. Expect elbowing and competing for goods. It is actually the best time to be in VN to party, very festive atmosphere.

I am a American-born Viet who is traveling to the mother country for the first time in his life. Although not entirely fluent in the language, I can speak enough to survive. I will be in Vietnam from Dec 11-Jan 4 and will be traveling all around the country. Can anyone help me with the basic survival guide to Vietnam? My mongering experience has only been limited to TJ. I want to have the time of my life with both working/civilian gals. Obviously discretion is necessary since I'm traveling with family rather than friends. What are some of the must-do's and must-not that will keep my safe and happy? What are some of the bars/sites that I should visit? How do I keep my money/passport, etc? I was here a year ago and things have changed in D1 area. Outside caraville and Independant palace used to be lots of drive by's. Now a majority are ladyboys. At Sofitel they let them in early in the evening and based on my visits there if they are well dressed you could probably take them to the first floor restaurant and slip them out to the elevator from there.

I just returned from a 3 week stay and had mixed results in different cities. But in Dist #1 Mini Hotel the room service was excellent. 500K for an hour 100USD all night. Acouple of breathtaking beauties were had. Another guest told me he had one sent and opened the door to see a 4 or 5 and sent her packing. 5 mins later another one more to his liking arrived. One girl had the biggest tits of any Viet Hunnie I've seen. Face a 6 but body and 8.5, great BBBJ but CIM is off the menu in VN everywhere I went. Must be the Govt. Education on Aids The new trick also seems to be asking for Taxi money after the fact but I didn't give in to this ploy. All in all this was my best money spent. Yes you need a visa to enter Vietnam. Also, don't rock up to the border and expect a visa to be issued - advance arrangements have to be made. The best thing to do is get a visa issued at the embassy in PP or arrange through a PP travel agent to get one at the border.
I've heard the bus takes about 7 hours.

Hi folk, here is my first report of HCMC, hope you will enjoy!
First night

Arrived yesterday night from HK with a friend, passed trough all custom formalities and within one hour we were in town ready for some action.
I did my hw, RTFF and walked straight to Apocalipse. During the walk I have to admit I was a bit puzzled, been living for almost three years in Asia (Shanghai) with some mongering experience in several other countries in APAC I found the city very quiet, not to say "dead".
Found Apo after a little and, wow, what a life inside. Ordered couple of beers and than started talking with a cutie, well, actually she started talking to me, asking in the sequence 1) name, 2) nationality 3) in which hotel I stayed ^_^ Lovely approach.
Anyway was not in the right mood, little sleep the night before, so after some talk I decided to go to bed for a good sleep. My friend had more energy to spare and so wend for a ride with a beautiful viet. Little english but she had all the right stuff to convince him. He paid the hotel front desk (320K) and, after they had a good session, she asked him 800K for herself. First mistake, never go without having negotiate before, anyway, even if not the cheapest, the amount seemed fair. The funny part followed. My friend (first experience in Asia a no former mongering experience) had no all the $$ dong required and offered her to pay a part in HK$. They started discussing about the right amount of the balance until they got into the cab and than the taxi driver joined the discussion too! Second mistake, never go mongering without enough bucks of the local currency. They eventually settled down to an higher amount, but my friend wanted to go home and thought the final amount after all was not that much. The lady at that point insisted to go her home to have a coffee and, despite his insistence to stop, the taxi driver took them to her home, far away from the city center so he found then himself lost in the middle of nowhere. Third mistake, had to quit the taxi much earlier, after the deed!
He than at that point followed her and they had a good coffee indeed, with all her family and the taxi driver joining the party! He was just too worried not to laugh about the funny scene ^_^
Eventually the taxi driver took him back to the hotel, than my friend realised that the meter had been running the all night long, reporting the ridiculous amount of 870K!
Yes I know, my friend had been naive, not to use a more appropriate adjective, anyway eventually that was another lesson he learned that night: everybody here is trying to get money out of you so one must be careful about all these tricks and always follow the golden rule of don't trust anybody but yourself (and sometime doubt about him too).
The day after I scolded him than promised to go mongering together the night after.
Second night

Went out together after a day spent discovering the city. Decided to have a good massage before dinner, maybe with an happy end. Looked for Sacha, having found some good reports about it but wasn't able to find the address in this forum, so went for Yawara in Dong do (Du). Price asked was 160K for 1 hour massage, paid upfront, went upstairs than a nice 24 yo Viet took me inside a small cubicle, a bit crampy but still ok. But the night was just started so didn't want to go to bed so early, even if in good company. We were approached than by a scooter wit a boy and a nice girl, he offered 600K for a ST including the hotel (nearby) and the possibility to choose the ladies. We accepted. Then we walked less than 1 minute and the lady on the scooter was chosen by my friend while another scooter with a very petite Viet arrived. Deal was done. Paid him 300K (I never pay the full amount before the service is done), went upstairs, had a shower together, no talks (her english was non existent) but her attitude was very nice. Discovered she was just 19, but she showed a certain level of appreciable experience. Happy, went down and paid the balance. Tipped her 100K. My friend unfortunately had a bad experience again (yes, again!). Nice bonk, she was fluent in english and very funny, but she refused to have a shower together at the end of the session and my friend left his pocket in the trousers in the room while showering. Sadly he discovered when he went downstairs that 400K were missing.
So again, another warning to everybody that could be in a similar situation: NEVER leave your pocket unattended if the girl is in the room out of your sight, this thing happens rarely but you may never know..
Sorry for this long post but since I benefit a lot from other's reports I wanted to contribute a bit with my experience.

After being in SG so many times and reading many posts, this is the first time I read that the city is dead. I often hear complaints how noisy and crowded it is. Added to that, the Viets are often overdose themselves every morning with French roast, the dose would embarass any starbuck drinkers, hence the upbeat atmosphere you feel in the city.

Went along Pham Ngu Lao and saw a lot of beauties ... but all no pro's!
Passed by Allez Boos, Saigon Bar and many other places (at around 10 pm) and saw some girls looking like pro's but didn't investigate further!

Cost: hotel 100.000 VND, girl 400.000 VND
Action: disappointing, since the girl was very rough and not friendly anymore. She gave me a BBBJ but it was hard to get turned on. With a private car or taxi that would be no problem since both roads pass through Bien Hoa.
There is also a shuttle from HCMC to Vung Tau that stops in Bien Hoa so imagine you could get something to Mui Ne.
But the the HCMC - Vung Tau ferry is a lot easier than the road in any vehicle.
And how would you get to Vung Tau without going through HCMC? The port only has small cargo ships stopping and there is a quite small airport that has charter chopper services.

You can go from Vung tau to Mui Ne/Phan Thiet without going through HCM. You can ask the local travel agency to set it up for you in Vung Tau. From Vung tau, take the road back to HCM. There will be an intersection called "Nga ba Vung Tau," if you take a right at that intersection, it will take you up to Mui Ne. If you go straight, it will take you to HCM. You only save about 35km.

Just like there are many people who never use protection and some of them still don't have HIV. It's contracted via food/drink preparation from the infected person who's preparing your meals/drinks. It's worth getting this shot, as it will also help you in other places, including your home town. Hep B is very important if your planning on spending time swapping fluids with locals. The cost is high, but its better than dieing from liver failure.
I suggest you go to the CDC website and read up on their recommendations.

You want to get a decent map with an index. Ly Thai To is a pretty big street! Head east on Dien Bien Phu until you hit the Nga Bay roundabout, turn right, from memory 252a is just after Su Van Hanh but don't hold me to that. Pretty well know place ... had 4 separate moto's take me there.

CheersBest one for outside D1 is Du Lich & Giao Thong map. Go to Bookazine at 28 Dong Khoi. They have it. It's opposite the Majestic. I got caught with crap maps a few times. With no index. Or just hop on a Moto. Thanh Ngan is a popular Hot Toc because they will always give moto's 100, 000 for a customer. As in my post. Better to square this away with your moto first and get him to stop 100 metres away. Otherwise you'll find they'll not go below 500 or 600,000.

Thanks.It's a new tourist guide book and map. Found on my last trip in my hotel (Ho Sen) but I spotted it in quite a few shops. It has a short section on bars + a photo of the aforementioned Lan. Wanted to see if I could find her so went to the bars recommended in the guide. It cost $6.
The midnight to 2am 'last orders' scene is a mixture of girls on foot. Mostly bar girls who didn't score, and on the back of moto's being pimped.
I'm still wondering exactly where this would be though. Which streets? A few streets in that general area, or just one block, or...? The Japanese bars in this area shut just before 12, the Hello Darling bars (49, 51, etc) mostly shut at 1am. I haven't ever seen something I'd call a 'scene' in the area I think you're talking about, other than a few girls from these places going to get their motorbikes and go home. You get the occassional working girls on motorbikes, but it's like on some nights you would see that, other nights you wouldn't.

OK I think I know the ones you mean now. (there's also a few bars up on Thai Van Lung near there, on the way to Chieu Thuy, so wasn't sure if you meant those). Heart of Darkness is history, got replaced by an Italian restaurant. Those other 2 are mainstream type bars, as far as I know. Irish House? Do you mean Sheridan's? Wild Horse is on Thai Van Lung before you get to the corner. I've never seen any of those places 'packed' with freelancers.
I will be coming to HCMC in a couple of weeks in order to work. Anyone interested in meeting for a drink and perhaps show me the ropes?

Here are some reviews of places of note discussed in forum as well as general experience
252 Ly Thai To: I came in there with a few friends with a cavalier attitude, expecting 6-7s, or even 5-6s, instead what I find are 2-3s. The women are so old they are already dying their hair. I was very keen on getting some mind you, so I looked every single one at least a few times, and they kept on telling the 'youngest' girl to step up but the youngest was at least 30! The fee was 150,000 dong for entrance, and of course I left, thinking I probably wouldn't even let these women touch me if it was pro bono.
NY Saigon: It should be noted that the girls in these bars usually are interchangeable and they float to the other bars near the area if there isn't enough business. The girls here at NY Saigon were 4-5s. Very friendly and eager to please with the hand in the inner thigh deal. I got a beer, bought every girl a drink, but then ran off to Cali. Make sure you ask about minimum drinks purchased if you are set on taking a girl out.
Cali: The girls here are a hell of a lot better looking than the other bars in the area. I would give them 6-7 with one girl breaking the 7 barrier, but arrogant and not fun to talk to. The temporary mamisan is actually very friendly, forgot her name cause i was too busy getting the rub down from her too. The music is terrible, but the girls are very friendly and some are a little "too" eager to please.
Vien Dong: Massage place that is famous to the locals. The girls here are generally very nice and friendly, with the exception of one girl that I absolutely hated. If you have a girl that doesn't smile right off the bat, ask for another one IMMEDIATELY! There are lots of girls here, there is NO reason you should have to put up with that nonsense. I got the VIP room a few times as well as normal, these girls will do more than hj if they like you and given the right price. Take care of the door guy in the tan uniform, he will send you a beautiful one. I gave him 50,000 after I disliked my first girl and he sent me a stunner who let me do all sorts of things to her and was incredibly nice and funny. Girls range from 6-8, with rare occasional 9.
Volcano and Liquid: I didn't know it but these girls, no matter how sluttily dressed, are not necessarily pros. I'd say they're mostly semi-pros or have very bad fashion sense, but they all got sugar daddies up the wazoo. Luckily, we ran into a really cool dude who introduced us to almost 10 of the girls there (score: 7-9s, mostly 8s). All of them, extremely friendly, but if you want to get to know them, I'd avoid the direct approach unless you're good looking, young, got friends just in case of trouble, and got money.... Just make it easy on yourself, take care of the alpha male of the group, and the whole cupboard will open to you.
Xe Om: So this is the rundown with a lot of these guys, some of them drive girls around all over Pham Ngu Lao. I see the same dudes and girls all the time. They are independent. Then there are the xe oms that get their girls from the local mafia representative. These girls are usually overpriced, as they got 3 chains of fees to go through. But if you like the girl, get their phone number. You can replace a girl if you do not like them. In my opinion the girls that cost $50 and $100 are exactly the same, minus the nicer clothes. I can always tell how long a girl has been doing the biz by how nice her clothes are. The Xe Om guys at the corner of Pham Ngu Lao and De Tham as well as the ones near Cyclo bar are pretty knowledgeable and have connections - but don't let them take you to 252 Ly Thai To!!!! Ask them for 'boom boom' if you are interested.
(Hot Toc: My) on Le Lai: The girls are 5-6s. You have to ask for the private room, where you negotiate what you want to do. The girls are in cute little polka dot dresses. The girl I got was cute, but not talkative, so I didn't want anything.
I've been to others, but the other good places are not in plain sight I can't list them all. The Bia Om places and the "Restaurants" in D1 are a plenty and they have 6-7s that will cater to your whim after you purchase a certain amount of food from the establishment. Just make sure that you negotiate with the girl as well as the mamisan or manager so there is no confusion as to what service you want.

After reading Roger's post last week I went out and made the rounds. To be fair, he was basing his reports on visits over the past year or so, not just how it is NOW. I have to say, I wasn't blown away by Ms Lan of Chieu Thuy, and the girls in Cali and NY Saigon seemed like nothing great. I've always thought 91 was the one that tended to have the most girls 7 or above, and it still is definitely one of the tops in that category (youth/looks). It's also the one bar that is least 'interactive' of the bunch (along with NY), with 29 being the most. Yes, these girls move around -- you see one in 91 and next month she's in 49, and so on. One thing Roger said that I strongly disagree with is that the girls are fresh in these places. A lot of these girls have been working in these bars a few years now. The percentage you could call 'fresh' (as in, working 2 months or less) is small. The 'semi-pro' bars he mentioned are what I'd call straight bars with few if any working girls most nights. And if you wandered that area on foot from 12.30-1.30 these days, I think there's a fair chance you might wander around and around and not see any girls who are really available. To me, it looked like Roger was painting an unrealistically rosy picture, based on what I'd seen in that area in the past. Then I went out to check it out in person and saw it was even worse now than I'd even remembered it. I've pretty much given up on the discos. Vietnamese style nightclubs (like the old Nhac Tre's) is another scene that's quickly shrinking. There is one new one on Nam Khi Khoi Nghia that I haven't tried yet called Baccara or something like this.

I got to agree with Wendella in this. From my recent encounters in Calli, NY, Smiley, etc ... the experiences were forgetable at the most. My hunting ground at the moment is the discos and local karoakes outside district 1.Which Disco is the N°1 hunting ground at present ? I've been a couple of times in SGN but thats again a few years ago. I will return by the end of next month but can only stay 3 nights, so I don't want to waste a lot of time by looking around. However, I prefer free-lancer places such as a good disco or nightclub above straight-to-the point action.

They most certainly were not experiences that were "forgettable at most". And I don't know where all these tried old scrags who've done the rounds for a few years are coming from. I didn't hang out with any. I got to know some very interesting and beautiful girls. And I experienced natural sexual skill like I've never seen it before. And I have been around the block a few times.

Yeah sorry for the harsh tone -- I was in a bad mood when I wrote that just because I went out 2 nights in a row (inspired by your posts!) and made the rounds, and was really disappointed with what I saw. You must have been lucky about that outdoor street scene, because these days there's just nothing happening in that area as far as girls walking around trying to hook up. I have seen that from time to time in the past, but not these days. And never lots of them, but just one or 2 here and there -- and the same one or 2 usually. The girls in the Hai Ba Trung type bars don't look like old hags (well, ok some do), but 'fresh' is pushing it. They can be veterans and still look good -- there's one in 29 who looks great but she's worked in at least 3 of these bars for the past 3-4 years. I think she just turned 22. She's young and pretty hot, but she's been with hundreds of guys. It is possible to come across young, hot fresh ones -- but it's a fairly rare occurrence. You know in that bar Cali, the guy out in front will always say "New girls! You come inside, now have beautiful new girl!" I usually fall for this line. Go inside and it's the same lineup for the most part, and then some 28 yr old mediocre girl comes up to me and that apparently is the new beautiful girl (in fairness, they did say "new" -- they did not say "young"). And then the bartender will tell me tonight is her first night. It's always their first night. Just part of the sales pitch.

1. My experience at Cali is completely different. I rarely see any good talent there. It's owned by the same lady as Thang Long or whatever the name is of the bar on the corner of HBT and MTB, and that seems to be where they keep most of the girls. Also, the mamasam tried to cheat me when making change.
2. I think 49, 51, and91(? ) on HBT have much better talent, but at 49 and 51 they invariably try to cheat me on the bar bill. A minor annoyance at this point, but pennywise and pound foolish I think.
3. 29 has a nice vibe, but again, I only wish the talent were better. Still, later in the evening, at least on a weekend, there are some hot girls there, but often occuppied.
4. I haven't seen much mentioned of 32 on HBT on this forum. Is there a reason for that? They have a nice loft, and a decent if sometimes high pressure vibe. One of the mamasans has a beautiful face.

I guess everyone gets a different experience in their first nights in Saigon. I don't remember being disappointed in any bar I went in. I guess I'm interested in the girls. I sample a lot, quickly, choose 2 or 3, really focus on getting to know the real person, learn language with them, mix threesomes, and have absolutely incredible sex. You make your own fun. Or not, I guess. I fell in love with Vietnamese women. Mix with Thai and Filipino. You have it all.
I'm told Yawarra has moved. My experience of Sasha Spa was consistent. Not less than 800, 000 HJ/BJ. Maybe you could get HJ only 600, 000. It felt very like they had a minimum 300, 000 kickback to pay somebody to stay open doing that service. But 800, 000 for the quality of HJ/BJ I experienced at Sacha is a bargain in my book. It's convenient, quick, and the skill level of the HJ in particular, is the best I've had since I talked my way into a video cabin in Tokyo. Those more expereinced should find their way out of D1 to one of a dozen or so "Hot Toc's". Service is much more variable, but it's fun and has HJ 200, 000 abd HJ/BJ 300, 000 prices available if you know what you're doing. For most foreigners here for a couple of nights, that's not the price. You'll have to pay 200, 000 or 300, 000 more in tips. It will take you longer. Sacha isn't bad value.

2. In general, I think those 3 bars have the highest numbers of girls in the 22 and under and also 7+ categories. It usually seems 91 has the most total number of girls at any given time. But the rest fluctuates. And not sure of the ownership, but I see girls move between these 3 bars -- maybe same owner.
3. 29 is the most hardcore of the bunch. Looks are usually a step down here, tho once in awhile they'll get a new batch in, a few young hot ones who don't last long usually -- they move on to other bars as soon as they hear conditions are better elsewhere.
4. 32 is really 35. It's ok but very small and fewer girls than almost any other bar around.
6. The new Smiley location is just half a block away on Thai Van Lung street.
8. The 'mood' depends on the girl you get, and also the mood that the girl is in, I think. The same girl who is all over you on one visit, hugging, kissing, directing your hand to certain destinations, might on later visits just squat on a stool and swallow her lady drink in one gulp. That's an exaggeration but you get the idea. I've been treated amazingly well in both 49 and 51, but at 91 it's rare.
There's also 3 more bars down at the start of Le Thanh Ton. The first one is tiny and cramped with just a few girls. The next is pretty good, just next door (with an alley between), called Bin Bin. Pretty good turnover in this place. And the third is just a few storefronts away as you head up Le Thanh Ton. These are all just a 5 minute walk from Thai Van Lung.

I have spent a few days in HCMC and have been somewhat disappointed. Maybe I haven't gone to the right places, however, I have found the girls to be extremely aggressive for drinks and tips and have almost no attempt at charm. I like to at least relax a bit and try and build a little chemistry before rushing off to the action, but it seems to be the hard sell right from the start.
They also didn't give me any chance to choose a woman of my liking before one of them would latch on to me. I don't like to have to shove them away in order to find someone I want, I would prefer to be able to order a drink and peruse the talent before choosing.
I went to Cali and a few of the numbered bars (91 and 35,+others) and found the attitude described above in most establishments. I read the forum about other action such as the motorbike pimps, I am a little hesitant to try that, but if I were here for longer, I probably would.
I have spent a lot of time in Bangkok and this is my first time in HCMC, so I am definitely a bit influenced by my experiences there. Perhaps, the economic situation here is a bit more desperate and this would explain the attitude of the women. Or, perhaps, there is still some animosity toward Americans for something that happened a few years back, I am not sure.

In the HBT bars you do indeed have to push them away so that you can get a drink and make a choice. Sometimes they will arrange a lineup or sometimes they all put a pout on their faces and ignore you.
In any case in these bars once a gal is sitting with you every second phrase is short time hotel - gets a bit boring.
Cali is a bit more negotiable, as is 29 (on Dong Khoi) and so is NY Saigon.
I think the only racial bias that exists is a favouritism for Japanese and Koreans as the girls perceive them to be more liberal spenders.

I think the way it usually works is that the girl whose turn it is next is the one who will come up to you, so no, it's not the one of your choosing, nor are you the one of her choosing. This routine seems to be pretty standard in these HCMC bars. If you want to be very subtle about it, you could just be nice and polite up to the point when she asks you to buy her a drink, but then decline on that, smiling and saying sorry, you just want to have your beer. If she's being particularly overbearing, you could interrupt and, yes, smile and say you just want to drink a beer. Or she might say "Can I sit with you?" to which, yes, you tell her sorry you just want to drink your beer. They're not all like that. You get some who are shy sometimes, you get some (most I think) who are in between (not too pushy, not too standoffish). And of course you get some pushy ones. In general they are more touchy than in other countries -- I think they're trained to be. Just the way it is here. But not always, it varies from girl to girl.
I'm not sure I'd go along with actually physically pushing the girl away, and any punching or hitting is definitely not recommended.* ;-)
Anyway, after you've made it clear to the first girl who comes up that you want to drink your beer and not sit with her, the mamasan *may* (if you're lucky) pick up that cue and turn up the lights so you can pick the one of your choice. If the mamasan doesn't, gettng rid of girl #1 should at least give you some time to gaze around and try to make eye contact with one you actually do want. At worst, they'll have the girl whose turn it is next immediately come and pester you. Smiley bar does that one. Annoying. I guess it could be a really painful way to get to eventually meet every girl in the bar, one by one.
* that said, I once was sitting at the bar in one place, and the girls were running to the front door to greet some passersby, and suddenly a middle aged guy was angrily shoving one girl up against the wall inside the bar with one hand on her throat, cocking his hand back as if he were going to hit her in a moment. I leave it to you to guess what that situation was.
I've been a lurker, but wanted to finally contribute some info about the scene in HCMC these days. I don't go the HBT or Ly Tu Trong bars, but there has been some reports lately by others.
Clubs. These days, several clubs have closed down (030, Volcano is having issues or something) so places like 97 NTMK are the hot spot and Gossip is also busy. 97 is mostly Vietnamese and probably not FL or pro (they are mostly Pro GF. Which is to say that you have to invest in courting them and then you get the pussy as their "boyfriend"). Gossip is unique in that you have the Pro GFs and Pro and FL in one place. Close to the round bar in the back are the FL and Pros (anyone with a tatoo these days seems to be highly likely to be Pro). Prices here are crazy though, as I had one Pro with a killer tight spinner body ask for 150 USD overnight. She probably gets some action even at that price with that killer body and great smile. She has a tatoo on here left hand between her thumb and forefinger. I had another demure looking girl ask for 100 USD short time.
After Gossip, some of the girls head over to Apocalypse and others head home or something as I never see some of these girls at Apo. Apo has mostly the same girls over and over. Prices tend to be better at 1 million VND LT but you do get the occasional nut that will ask for 200USD ST. Most of the pros and FLs have their favorite place to stand or sit so if you go 2 or more nights in a row, you get an idea of who is who. Friday and Saturday seems to be PACKED and alot of action all around. The other days get the same old people for the most part.
Zoo Scene. The zoo scene has been packed up and moved a short distance to Nguyen Binh Kiem, between Nguyen Thi Minh Khai and Nguyen Dinh Chieu with the same action (girl rides on scooter up and down the street). Hotels tend to be on Nguyen Dinh Chieu or somewhere close. Price tends to be 250k to 450k VND for Viets and foreigners (including room).
Hot toc. The action seems to be along Dinh Bo Lin (one way street that connects to Dien Bien Phu and runs parallel to Xo Viet Nghe Tin (sp? )) but I had mixed results so I normally go to the place on Dien Bien Phu very near the Isuzu/Mai Linh car showroom on the South side of the street (not the other side). 70k price for admission and I tip 130k VND (for a nice and round 200k VND for BBBJTC and CIM). No swallowing though as you always hear the girls clearing their throats and spitting out after the deed is done.

This report is long delayed, but a month long trip through VN, Cambodia and LOS wore me out. My first night in HCM I hooked up with a 10 day freebie (a friend of the bar-owner). However, one night, she retired early as she was not feeling so well.
I wandered two blocks over from Pham Ngu Lao (I forget the name of the street, but it's a large one). Within one minute a 9/10 pulls up on a scooter and says let's go. OK. Quoted price - 400k. I started to worry when the ride to her hotel turned out to be several miles, but the little head was thinking. We went upstairs and, thankfully, the big head was still operational. I took my clothes into the bathroom with me when she insisted on washing me down. I checked the closet and under the bed for lurkers. I watched her lock the door.
Well, being the professional that she is, she fooled me into thinking she had locked the door. She insisted on starting with a massage and was soon beating on my back, making more noise than anything else. That seemed a little fishy, so a moment later I pushed her off me so that I could see the chair where I had left my clothes, which were now missing.
I muttered something something unintelligble and ran out the door into the hallway stark naked. Apparently the timeframe had been so short that I had startled the thief and she had run the wrong way down the hallway, onto a dead end. As I emerged, she was trying to run back toward the exit and I grabbed her. She threw everything down, saying " Everything there, it's OK!" I kept a hold of her while grabbing my clothes and we all returned to the room. I blocked the door while I dressed and checked my belongings. She had not gotten a thing!
At this point I was so angry that I could barely speak, but I had to laugh when they asked that I reimburse them 50k for the room. That was an obvious NO, but the girls are not shy to ask for anything. I quickly exited the hotel, expecting for someone to hassle me, and was glad to see another scooter out front. Just to make the evening perfect, he ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere.
Other than that, HCM was great!

What are closing times these days at places like let's say Apocalypse ? Any other popular late night spot that one can recommend ?
Dump, one pool table but a very cozy group of girls to hang with. Lan will be behind the bar, fending off johny hopefuls. Or letting somewone win. With charm it can be got for $100 by medium to youngish guys in ok chape. Fats need not apply. She won't make you feel good as she rejects you. But plenty more fish will be available. Don't trust anything she tells you. She's a grifter.
Come out of the Sheraton on at front entrance on Dong Du. Turn left and walk up to Hai Bai Trung, cross over and walk up to the next street, Thi Sach, left Thi Sach up to Cao Ba Quat, right up to Thau Van Lung, left up to Le Thanh Ton, cross and walk on up to Ly Tu Trong. Chie Thuy is on th right 40 meters from the corner of Ly Tu Trong.
]I an not sure if this is the exact place I stopped in at yesterday. It is in the same place as noted above, and there were two places on the right that had a pool table. One you can see the table when the front door is open, the one I stopped in had the table slightly to the left.
Stopped in about 5:30 with my friend (Chinese guy). And just wanted to shoot some pool. Immediately found what I rank as a 9 that set up the table for us. The boss man asked us if we wanted to play alone or with some girls, and we aid alone. About a dozen girls sitting on couches putting their make-up on. The girl I had my eye one already was ready.
We played several games, and had several beers. And the girls would set up the table for us. Not pushy at all. I finally started to talk with the girl, and decided to play a game with her. She was not bad. Bought her a drink, (50, 000) and she became much more friendly. My friend picked a girl for himself, and they played a game of pool. Soon sitting down together. And talked about leaving. She did not know the Renaissance, and if she could come back. But I told her it is early (now almost 7pm). She asked me for the card and the boss man looked at it, conferred with another guy there, and told her it is ok. Asked for the bill, and they said minimum number of lady drinks to take them out (I think 7? ) but the total for the two girls, our beers (I think 4 each) their drinks was 800, 000. Deal. My friend paid. My girl told me $60 for her). Gave him a reciept for food and drink. Then came by with condoms. I said, not needed, but my friend needed. 15, 000 and they gave him a reciept!
No problem back into the hotel. And a nice time. The girl has a great body. And was not using a padded bra. Showered together. Couple of nice rounds. And she asked to leave about 10pm. Said "maybe problem with the hotel is she stays". But ok if I wanted her to. I was spent. So let her go. Arranged for her to come by today (she said she will come over on her motor scooter), and we will spend a few hours this afternoon before she goes to work.
I was in Hanoi before, and did not find any places like this. Also the girls are not pushy like most Thai girls, but will warm up once you make the first move.

T&I Day 1
Got to HCMC on Saturday afternoon and checked into the Elios. It’s been remodeled, very clean, similar facilities to a mini-hotel (I find out later) but a bit more upscale. Definitely not GF, with a large sign at the elevator stating so, in polite terms. It seems to be populated mostly by French tourists, so you’d think they’d not care! :)
Took a cyclo tour of Dist. 1. I thought I was getting fleeced, at 450K for 2+ hours, including a lot of begging for more money. Turns out it was worse that I though, by about a factor of 10, according to my LP guidebook. But, I’d always meant to do it, I never could seem to find the time in Yangon, and it was worth it. It really helps if you have a death wish, or really enjoy the prospects of becoming one with a tour bus.
One immediate impression is that I’ve never seen such a bunch of hustlers. Everybody who deals with tourists seems to be out to make a killing. Now, I’ve traveled a lot all over SEA and Mexico, so I’m used to that, to a point. What was really grating is that nobody wants to stick to a deal. You settle on a price for something, then, at the end, it’s pissing and moaning for more. The street urchins selling postcards make the ones in Yangon look like amateurs. It is what it is, nothing you’re gonna do about it, but it makes everybody look like a bunch of money hungry sharks. I’d think they’re not all that way, but I wonder. I’ve spoken to enough people with VN girlfriends to wonder if it’s not a national trait.
Towards evening I took a stroll and had a moto drop me at the Sheraton. Quotes 20K. F*cker says he has change for a 100K note, then doesn’t have it when we arrive. Ugh! Paid him 10K + $1. (I realize now that that's about double what it ought to cost.) I decided to stroll up HBT and see how far I could get. Maybe business is a bit slow, I don’t know. I walked past the door of 49 and was mobbed by like 300 girls. Or at least it seemed that way. I let them drag me in, and suddenly I was propelled, with a hand in the small of my back, all the way to the back of the establishment, into the room w/AC and nobody else around.
Her name was Han. I suppose they must use a system like a car dealership, where they rotate “ups.” Otherwise, I can’t see how one particular girl grabs the customer and nobody else fights about it. She rates about a 6. Tiny, nice cleavage, average face. Beers are $1, LDs are $3. Girl doesn’t get a commission on the LDs, but gets to keep anything she earns from extras. The schtick is to play pool. If they lose, they strip. They win, you pay. I got the feeling that the whole place was run by the female VN equivalents of Minnesota Fats. She sat on my lap, asked for a drink, then starts playing, ever so slightly, with Phord jr. She suggests a BJ here in the room, as there are no customers. It would be luck for her, business is slow, 10:30 and no customer, etc., etc., etc., etc. I keep resisting. I finish my beer, during which I buy another LD. I pay the tab and tip Ms. Han 100K (experts can tell me if that was sufficient or not). Of course she starts to pout and whine that she needs more. I’d already had a belly full of that sh*t with the cyclo driver, and wasn’t buying. So, out the door.
Walked past 51, almost got mobbed but made a clean getaway. Tried to get some soup at Pho 24 but was told they were closed. I guess the 24 didn’t mean hours! :)
Got mobbed again at 91. Went in, sat at the bar and got nabbed by Ms. Lieu. Wow. Jackpot. I’d have to rate her a solid 9. Beautiful face, I swear I’d seen it on a VN billboard at home somewhere. Very tiny, like 70+ pounds, perky A cups, tiny waist, what’s not to like?
Same deal as before, but in Dong. LDs are 50K. Strip pool upstairs. She’s very sweet and has a great attitude and speaks good English. She admitted to working in the bar for quite a while (a refreshing change!). Of course, at 21, you couldn’t have worked too many years. Said that she didn’t get many Americans (I’m #2), that they didn’t seem to like her, but that the Japanese and Koreans tended to prefer her. Oh, and no kids. Another plus.
She said that the barfine was 8 drinks. She offered ST for $60, room $20. I bought her another LD and considered. She’s very attractive and very nice. She’s not pushy at all and seems to be good company. Another plus was that she sipped her drinks, not guzzled them like the previous lady. But, with a total nut north of $130 I think it’s a bit steep and tell her I don’t have enough money. So, she says I can pay $100 and that it would cover all the LDs, including the 2 she had already consumed, my beer (big deal), the taxi, the room and her fee. Suddenly that didn’t seem like a bad deal. So, why not?
She changed into “street” clothes, I finish my beer and we’re off. Suddenly it’s a really bad spy movie. We walk out of the bar, a guy surreptitiously opens the back door of a mini-van taxi and we quickly hop in. Then it’s off through a maze of streets. We finally pull up in front of a Chinese mini-hotel. It’s dark, but open. Somebody opens the door and we hurry inside. Upstairs is the room, very large, large bed. All-in-one bathroom/shower. Really rather nice for a ST hotel. The staff is very polite and smile a lot.
Once in the room, we settle down. We undress a bit and chat for a while. I like to get to know the girls a bit. Nice conversation, no rush. Then she takes me into the shower and proceeds to give me a good, much needed, scrubbing. Nice. Then, down to business. What a killer body. Very fair skin, nice ass for a small Asian. Very good BBBJ, seemed to really enjoy the DATY, CG and Mish, all good. Such a very tight box! 2 beers and a condom? No problem!
After we finish, she takes me back into the shower and cleans me up. Nice touch. We dress and then go back downstairs. Entire thing was a little over an hour. Paid her a C-note after dressing, no complaints, no arguments, no bitching. She tells me to go get into the taxi and she would follow in a minute. So, I walk outside, the doorman opens up the back door and I sit. They leave the door open and the dome light on, so I’m not sure who’s gonna be fooled by this, but, hey. She comes out in about 30 seconds and hops in the cab. We take off, I give her my hotel address. It’s like 4 block away, so we’re there in a couple of minutes. She hops out and says goodbye. She’s going back to the bar to settle up with the boss, then home. I guess the bars close fairly early? 12 or 1?
The whole taxi thing reminded me of Myanmar a few years back, when they’d hustle you out the back door of the bar, into a waiting taxi. The girls didn’t want to be seen on the street at night, didn’t want to be seen with a foreigner, etc. Actually, rather fun. Another side note, nobody had their hand out for extra tips. Nice.
So, maybe the old hands here can tell me if this was a good deal, or not. It was certainly fun. Total damage was $100. This is a bit more than Thailand, but compares favorably to, say, TJ or Costa Rica. Maybe I’ll go see her again tonight. I think she was that good. Maybe she’ll let me get a pic or two. If so, I’ll post.

For about the last year or so the bars on HBT have been pushing this idea of a bar fine being so many LD - before that it did not exist.
It used to be that VND1mil would cover bar and the girl yet it now seems hard to get them under VND1.2 mil. And of course the ST hotel is an expense on top of that.
I prefer to stay in the small hotels (which are quite comfortable) and then the ST thing is not necessary. Too many stories of problems with the hotels the gals take you to.
So if you take of the $20 for the hotel you did not do too bad!

Yeah, now that I'm here, I undertand the mini-hotel concept. Next time I wuuld definitely book a day in a regular hotel, then poke around and find a nice mini-hotel. They really are fairly decent, and not exactly what I was expecting.
I'm gonna try to recuperate a bit and do more research. It's tough, but I guess I gotta take one for the team! :) Not too late, though, as I gotta get up early and go to Cu Chi (what a great name).

Chieu Thuy is the one on the corner of Thai Van Lung and Ly Tu Truong --not 40m from Ly Tu Truong as Roger mentioned, but actually ON the corner of that street but with the door on Thai Van Lung. It is the one that has the pool table just to the left, not the bar where the pool table is right in the center when you look in the door.
There is another bar halfway up Thai Van Lung between Ly Tu Truong and Le Thanh Ton. I forget the name of this other one.
Follow up to my last report.
I had got the girl's number that I met and took out from the pool bar. And agreed to meet the next afternoon and she would give me a city tour on her motorscooter. I called her about noon, and she agreed to come to my hotel at 2pm. Was out eating and she called me about 1:45 and said she was there.
I got back to the Renaissance and she was in the lobby, dressed very nicely.
I said, I needed to go to the room first, and she said ok, and then proceeded to the front desk and dropped her ID. I told her that it was not necessary during the day, but she said, she did not want trouble.
Got back into the room, and she almost attacked me, and soon our clothes were off and we resumed where we were the night before. Two rounds and some relaxing time, and it was 4pm. Showered (another BJ in the shower), then out for a short tour on her scooter. Stopped and bought her lunch near the bar she works, as she needed to be at work by 5pm. Gave her 800, 000 and a sad face, so gave her 100, 000 more. Maybe much, to me it was worth it. She really enjoys sex, and for me that is much better than a limp girl just going through the motions.
Stopped into the pool bars around the corner from the Sheraton. Cannot remember the names, I think 51 first. A table upstairs on down. Very aggressive girls there. The tables were busy, and did not want to sit and buy drinks for the girls. Not too many lookers there.

He did not understand, but the manager there explained the same thing. He was not key to going to a small hotel, so we split. It was a little after midnight, and they were closing the place.
All kind of motorcycle guys approached us as we walked back to our hotel, wanting to take us to "lady bars".

Well, due to my Bangkok babe draining poor Phord Jr. dry 3 times in 2 days, and the tender ministrations of Ms. Lieu last night, the ol’ 460’s been reduced to a 289 only hitting on 6 cylinders. I figured I’d just do some bar research for the record and get to bed a bit early for the trip to Cu Chi the following day.
Off on a tangent for a minute. During a moto trip the guy kept wanting to take me to a go-go bar (that's what it sounded like). I asked if there were actually gogo bars in VN. He insisted the ladies danced naked and that you could do everything. I was skeptical, but I'm curious if any of the old hands know what he was talking about.
I wandered through Apocalypse Now about 7 and it wasn’t open. The man said 9:00. OK. Trundled off to NY Saigon. Met at the door my Ms. Thuy. Probably rates a 6.5 on the PP scale. Nice body, fair sized naturals, above-average face. Unfortunately, no face pix. I asked and had the camera, but no dice. Standard bar setup, 30K for beer, 50K for LD, lady doesn’t get anything for the drinks. Atmosphere was nice and laid back. They asked if I wanted a lady to sit with me, she didn’t hound for drinks, was nice company and didn’t [CodeWord140] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord140) and moan when I tipped her 100K when I left The mamasan tried to teach me some choice VN phrases to use on Thuy, like I love you and you’re pretty. After leaving, strolled around a bit to get my bearings. The My Sherpa map I was using was great, but a couple of items were out of place. Wandered down the street where Smiley is located. Chatted with a door lady, found out that it was a karaoke joint for Japanese customers and invited me in. I pointed out that I wasn’t Japanese. LOL She insisted it was OK. I told her I couldn’t sing, either. She insisted that it wasn’t necessary, I could just speak with the ladies. We had a couple of giggles but I passed.
Wandered into Smiley and was nabbed by a bar shark named Van. I’m thinking a 5 on the PP scale. Rather “long” face, for lack of a better term. Same pricing scheme. Ordered my Tiger, got Van a drink and was immediately hounded for a pool game. If I lose, I get naked. I looked around and noted that I didn’t see any naked women in the place, so I figured they won all the time. She said no. She said the games were 100K. I asked her if it would be OK if I just gave her 100K and we called it even. She insisted that that wouldn’t be the same! I finally convinced her that I wasn’t in the mood for pool. Got her a 2nd drink and finished by beer. The 2:1 LD to beer ratio seems to be fairly consistent. So, after dodging several offers to view the upstairs rooms (she finally admitted that other things besides pool went on), I decided to leave. Pulled out 150K, expecting 20K back. While waiting I gave Ms. V 100K and she immediately starts the P&M routine and begging for another. My BS tolerance level has gotten much lower the last day or two. I asked where my change was and she informed me that it was 20K for the peanuts. Nice touch. Hand you peanuts that, in any country in the world are free, don’t tell you they’re not, then ding you for them. Great way to retain customers. That was the last straw and I bolted for the door. It’s not the $1.5, it’s the principle.
Nipped over to Apocalyple Now, just to see it. Nothing really, music not bad, all locals. I did like the surfboard with the "Charlie don't surf!" line painted on it. Not really my scene, so I made a lap and left.
So, off to CaLi. Got in the door and was immediately appropriated by 3 of the homeliest girls in Saigon. One spoke no English, was 34 according to her friend but looked 40+, and rated about a 4. The other two were a 3 and 2, respectively. As my dive master in Pattaya once said, “Careful. Nobody throw a stick or we’ll be alone.” Now, in fairness, they were nice girls. The older one kept giving me Thai-style sniff kisses all night (is that popular in VN, too?) and furiously playing with my nipples for the entire visit. The “3” latched onto my left side and was basically the talker and interpreter. The “2” came along 5 minutes later and latched onto the gravy train (there were no other customers in the place). She performed the bar massage duties. Anyway, the first 2 got a drink, the third asked but I refused and she didn’t press. A nice change. Spent a little more time than usual. They asked for another drink, but, again, no, and no begging. After the conversation played out and my nipples were getting tired, it was time to go. #3 told me, earlier, that a $10 tip, per lady, would be adequate. So, I forked out a $20. It was OK, cuz we spent quite a bit more time than the other places. #3 tried to up the ante, but I wasn’t buying and she didn’t push. I don’t mind them asking, it’s the pissing and moaning if you say no that irks me. #3 also wanted a bite of the apple, so she got 150K. All in all, kinda expensive, but nice attitudes all around. The older one actually seems like she knows what she’s doing. I suspect she’s good in the sack, but…
Now it’s time to visit Ms. Lieu for a nightcap, so it’s back to 91. I ask for her, my pronunciation sucks, but they finally figure it out. She’s as cute as I remember, so it wasn’t just the beer goggles. I find out that the breakdown of last night’s $100 was: 800K for her, 400K for the bar, the remainder to the hotel and taxi. I think my beer came out of her cut, but I’m not positive. She, as I, am disappointed that I have to get up early and can’t play. But I manage 2 beers and 3 LDs, just the same. I find out she’s available for take-out if the bar gets its 400K. She wants $100 for an all-nighter. I guess that’s reasonable? We make some tentative plans to hook up when I get back to SGN and I’ll take her to Vung Tao.
While in 91, a couple of Japanese guys came in. These guys know how it’s done. They sit with a couple of girls. A few minutes later I hear the clip-clopping of a hundred horses. I look up and it’s all the girls trotting across the bar. They stop in front of the Japanese and Lieu turns up the lights so they can get a good look. She explains that if you don’t like the girls you’re with you tell the mamasan and you get to pick from the line-up. I always knew it in theory, but I’d never seen it done. The girls they were sitting with were really attractive anyway, but I guess they wanted a good look at the competition. They did it twice. Brutal. But they stuck with the ones they had. Man, the feminists have so beaten down the western guys that, at least in my case, we cringe to even think doing something like that. But those guys understood the way the game’s played.
Anyway, sorry for the length with nothing good at the end. Maybe I’ll have something better to report in the next installment.

While in 91, a couple of Japanese guys came in. These guys know how it’s done. They sit with a couple of girls. A few minutes later I hear the clip-clopping of a hundred horses. I look up and it’s all the girls trotting across the bar. They stop in front of the Japanese and Lieu turns up the lights so they can get a good look. She explains that if you don’t like the girls you’re with you tell the mamasan and you get to pick from the line-up. I always knew it in theory, but I’d never seen it done. The girls they were sitting with were really attractive anyway, but I guess they wanted a good look at the competition. They did it twice. Brutal. But they stuck with the ones they had. Man, the feminists have so beaten down the western guys that, at least in my case, we cringe to even think doing something like that. But those guys understood the way the game’s played.
Anyway, sorry for the length with nothing good at the end. Maybe I’ll have something better to report in the next installment.
PpWe must have criss crossed paths last night. You synopsis of the bars is very on track. Found the same. The girl at Cali had a great dress. Flowing front, no bra. But a bit older, and her skin was not so soft. Otherwise very nice, and assume great in the sack, but I passed.
I did play pool at NY Saigon. But that was a mistake. Third floor and no AC. But it was the best table I found in HCMC so far. Three girls and my friend, we just played each other, and the girls were his cheerleaders. He lost, and gave me 100 (LOL) instead of stripping.

Well, today we had to endure one of the most miserable bus trips I've had the misfortune to experience. It wasn't the worst, but it's in the top 10. I decided to book a trip to Cong World, AKA Cu Chi. Bus was an hour late, A/C existed in name only, bus packed to the rafters. What fun! I won't bore folks with the details, but the shooting was rather fun.
On the way back the poor tour guide had a mini-revolt on his hands. He kept insisting that we close the windows so the A/C would work, but everybody kept opening them. He finally gave up. :) The bus broke down briefly on the way back. The driver climbed under and fixed it. Apparently it was something to do with the air brake system. When it breaks we have no pressure. So, it's not too important, I suppose. Finally a lot of us had had enough and arranged to be let out early. I took a moto the rest of the way and regretted not taking a moto to the tunnels in the first place.
After recuperating I had to pack. Our friends at VN Airlines unilaterally changed my flight schedule from a night-owl friendly 10:30am to a definietly unfriently 8:00am. So, no lengthy night activities. Again. Shit. I gotta rely on a sure thing, I guess.
After dark I had a drink in Saigon Saigon. Nice view. I'll bet it was really nice before all the high-rises went up. Then it was off to 91 again.
They know me now. I was escorted to a seat, the mama just looks at me and says "Lieu?" I nod and she goes off to pull her ot of the high stakes card game in the back. The bartenderess comes over and says "You want someting drink? Tiger?" A good barkeep always remembers, right?
Ms. L shows up (followed 5 seconds later by a LD), apparently happy to see me. SHe's probably a good actress. We discuss my early departure last night and it's her considered opinion that we do something tonight. I'm in agreement, which seems to make her happy. I then explain that, unfortunately, I have to get up even earlier in the morning due to the airline folks. She becomes "solicitous" and insists that we get going, so I can get to bed early! I like how they're always interested in our well-being! :)
So, it's much the same. $100 all-in. Out the door, into the taxi, off the the hotel. But this time it's a different hotel. The Fuck a Duck, or something like that. Really nice, huge well-appointed rooms, nicely decorated. 4 or 5t flights of stairs is a minor quibble. In the room I ask why we came here, instead. She explains that she's very safety minded. OK, but why not go to the last hotel. She says it was raided by the police last night. Great! I'm really glad my common sense got the better of Mr. Happy. We might have been nabbed in flagrante. Just what I'd need to cap off the perfect vacation, a visit to the SGN monkey house.

Thanks. That sounds like a reasonable explanation. Kind of like "cupping" some many years ago. That's where they'd place a flaming piece of paper in a cup or glass and invert it on your skin. The vacuum would draw blood to the surface.
Your description sounds like what I saw. Welt-like marks, but not severe. The rough lines inside the welt areas could be felt with a light touch, but not exactly like a scar or something caused by being hit by an object. So, that's probably the case and I'll rest a bit easier.

In from Nha Trang. Checked into the Saigon Hotel, Dong Du. Don’t bother. Nothing worth mentioning. Went out and got a sh*tload of souvenirs for the folks back home. I got used to using the motos in Cambodia, and use them a lot here. I think they’re kinda fun, as long as you can suspend your instinct for self-preservation. :)
Towards evening I got my Pho fix at Pho 24 and strolled through the Ginza district. Wow. Le Than Thon is all Japanese.
After dark decided to do some more recon of the HBT hostess bars. Hit the little bar on the corner of DD and HBT. Can’t remember the name. Two cuties running it. Not a hostess bar, but girls were nice to chat with. One was studying to become a tour guide.
Next, walked by 35 but it didn’t look promising. I’d been meaning to stop into the one on the corner of HBT and MTB. Thien Loc, or something like that. Was “assigned” Kieu. Well, it was a very educational day, even if it wasn’t the best day. But, as they say, the worst day fishing is better than the best day working.
After breakfast and e-mail chores I call Moon to see if she’s coming by. She asks if I’ll meet her at the bar at noon. OK, as the place I want to see was now closed until 1. I go indulge in my favorite pastime of wandering around and driving the cyclo and moto guys nuts by walking everywhere and always refusing a massage.
Wind up in the bar at around noon. Moon is there and looking pretty good. She’s quite attractive. I’d say a solid 9. Ms. Kieu is there, too, as cuddly as ever. Anyway, here is where my education on running a bar began. I understand about running a business. I understand about running a bar. You have to have strict rules, and enforce them, or the girls run roughshod over you. They don’t show up, they’re late, won’t work hard, etc. OK. And I understand all the bars here are similar in their operation, but this Thien Loc place seems to be an extremely bad example. Practices that border on the despicable, IMHO.
We all know that the girls receive no salary, and that they receive no commission on the drinks. But I was under the impression they got to keep the tips and the monies paid for services rendered. Not, quite. The going rate there is $70 for two hours, paid to the girl. You pay the house $20 to take her out, $20 for the hotel and a little for the taxi. OK. But the girl doesn’t get $70. She has to kick back ANOTHER $20 to the owner, reducing her take to $50. It doesn’t end there. Those annoying tours outside the door are actually on a salary. Where does the money come from? The owner’s double dipping? No, the girl must then give another $10 to the annoying-tout retirement fund. Their salaries come out of that. So, now we’re down to $40. Then, to add insult to injury, there are the food charges. The girls can’t leave the bar at all during their shift. So, the owner is kind enough to provide food, at a mandatory 50K Dong a month. Doesn’t matter if you eat or not… And, if something happens, a deal goes sour and the customer stiffs the girl, guess who pays? Oh, BTW, of the $20 that goes to the ST hotel, $10 gets kicked back to the owner. Hence the use of certain hotels.
No wonder bar turnover is so high. A good mamasan can be a buffer for some of this, I suppose. Moon actually quit recently, as she’d had enough. But the owner’s husband called her a few days later and begged her to come back. I guess the place does churn a lot of cash, and she claims she pulls down $2,000 a month and rarely goes with a customer.
During visits to the Rex, the Sheraton and some other joint, she’s received a couple of calls from the bar. It’s becoming apparent that she’s not going to be able to stay out all day. She finally says that she has to go back, spend a bit of time there, then we can go to the hotel for 2 hours but be back by 11. Normally, this would have been OK with me, but two things were in play. I was a bit irked by having to go back to the bar, and having an artificial time limit. (Now, I understand that she was the mamasan and that somebody has to be there to interpret, take care of the checks, etc., so I was willing to make some allowances). Commercial sex is much more readily available in Thailand compared to Vietnam but Vietnam can make up for it with excellent quality.
HCMC has more opportunities than Hanoi and the big issue is that the larger hotels are not GF. So you will end up using ST hotels recommended by the girls or you can stay in smaller GF hotel.
Beyond that it depends on what you want, massage with extras, action in bars, ST quickies or overnight GFE.
Vietnam (especially HCMC) has some other benefits - excellent food with many varieties of cuisine, proximity to the beach resort town of Vung Tau. And on balance it is probably cheaper then Bangkok.

Bangkok has to get the 9.5 -- for sheer volume and variety nothing can come close.
Phnom Penh gets a 6.5. Can be very cheap compared to BKK but way fewer girls, so more work to find what you like.
Saigon - 5: even smaller scene than PP, tho what little is there is of pretty good quality -- more expensive generally than PP or BKK*.
Chiang Mai - 3. Scene here is smaller again than HCMC. Prices a bit cheaper than BKK. Basically not worth the trip unless you're going first as a tourist to see Chiang Mai and the area. Great place to visit, but not for girls.
Hanoi - 1. Might be good for those who aren't bothered by either age or paying high prices compared to other cities. If you go there on the hunt, you'll probably end your evening wishing you were in some other city where it's better.
Some would have Pattaya as their number 1 choice by the way. Angeles in Phillipines has its fans, I've never gone there.
* what i mean is girls in HCMC charge more than the ones in BKK or PP -- as Suds said, overall, HCMC probably a bit cheaper than BKK -- considering hotels, food, transport, etc.

I am new on this site but pleased that I found it. I have just started travelling to HCMC recently (last year) but for work will be going there 3 times a year. I have hit it lucky I guess and always found a place and a great lady but the prices have been all over the place and as far as street names etc...I am a little lsot still. I know dist 1 and my work usually has me stay in a hotel around near the opera house area (Sheraton, Rex etc). I am looking for some good advice from you experts for some good places with pretty ladies andnot going to rip me off. I am just back from there and off again in June/July and really want to know what I am doing this time.
I have had a bj at Legend Hotel by a staff member that was after extra cash (she was awesome) but it cost me 1 and a half million (yep I know I was taken) I also went to those bars along past the Sheraton and the girls were cute, service great and hotel I ended up in was also clean and tidy but all in all an expensive night but I was told that because they pay the Police that I was safer then other places.
I also picked up an older girl in the street outside the opera house and she walked me over to a hotel. She was highly skilled, spoke great English and the whole night only cost me 800,000 but as I said she was older (about late 30's but looked every year of it). But the service and to actually be able to speak to her was great.
So guys any help or advice will be real greatful!!!
A friend of mine has a regular girl and he is sitting pretty but has told me to try and find my own.

Sorry for the late wrap up. Had Internet issues in rural Thailand, then got swamped on my return to the salt mines.
On day 7, slept in a bit, did the e-mail routine, packed, all the normal sh*t. Checked with the front desk, got an OK for late checkout, then went and scrounged up some lunch. I wish we had some Banh Mi carts around SoCal. Yum.
Finally got all the ducks going in the same direction about 3:00pm. Air France’s flight isn’t until past 7, so we have a bit of time. I pop over to Thien Loc to see Ms. K.
Stumble in the door and am greeted warmly. Ms. K pads over in her oversize flip-flops, gives me a big hug, then sheepishly looks at her feet. “I go change.” “No problem, up to you.” She pads off and returns wearing her heels. Her partner in crime comes over to sit with us. “You want some dink?” “I already have a dink, err, yes, I’d like a drink. Tiger.” Schmoozing with Ms. K. usually involves two girls and double the LDs, as the girls figure she needs an interpreter. K’s English is pretty good, as long as she sticks to the basics, like “I love you, Phord.” And “I want go America with you.”
Actually, I think the girls just like to have somebody they can discuss you with, preferable while you’re sitting there, uncomprehending. :) Yesterday it was Moon. K rattles off something to M. I ask M what she said. M giggles and says “She say you make love very well, but you relax after finish. You not want to make love more.” Well, that was pretty accurate. I believe that once a king, always a king. But once a knight is enough for anybody. :)
Anyway, the interpreter-du-jour is K’s roommate. Can’t remember the name. She’s nice looking, about a 6.5. Has an American boyfriend of Philippine descent, living somewhere in LA. She says “K say you treat her very well. She like you very much.” “Izzat so? I’ve never heard that before. Must be true.”
After the obligatory LDs, we decide to play some pool. K’s a bit bummed that I didn’t come early enough to take her to the ST hotel, but the red flag is still flying. I do get to cop some serious feels, and she’s done some serious bush trimming since the other day. Nice…
I beat the roommate a couple of games straight, then Ms. K once. At that point they start to bring on the bigger guns. They draft another girl, who looks a lot like Moon. (BTW, M’s not there. She told me she’d be gone a day or two. Her sick mom’s in town and she needs to take her to the doctor. The doctor drains “yellow water” from around her heart. M doesn’t like the regular doctors, so pays for mom’s visits to private doctors. Fairly expensive by VN standards. This was another of her major distractions yesterday). Well, Fast Eddie (or, maybe, Fast Edwina) plays a pretty mean game, but I’m ahead when Ms. K starts some major league distractions. When I can pull myself away, somehow, miraculously, Ms. E has run the table and I’ve lost! I’m not sure how she did it! :)
It’s now approaching 5:00 and time to go. Bummer. Things were just getting fun. A less-than-sober American from Florida had wandered in, along with a tipsy ex-pat from Scotland, and we were having fun doing gang gropes! Pay for my 3 beers and 7 LDs. I groused to Ms. Roommate in the beginning, and she said she understood and that she’d drink slowly. And she was true to her word. It was 3 LDs apiece for Ms K and Ms. R, and one to Fast Edwina, in two hours. The girls aren’t that fond of flogging the drinks, but, like any good police state, the girls keep an eye on each other and probably rat each other out.
It’s off to the airport. Of course, today there’s NO traffic and I get to the airport an hour early. Arrgh. Air France seems like an OK airline. Things appear to run smoothly, despite them surrendering every time a German or Middle Eastern tourist wanders by. :) But, seriously, I’ve seen loads of French tourists this week. And I can say one thing for certain. Despite rumors to the contrary, French women are definitely not the most beautiful women on the planet. Not even close, Catherine Deneuve notwithstanding.
It’s been a fascinating week, and over much too soon. I wish I’d booked more time, but I’ll make up for that next year. The VN people are very shrewd and very materialistic. They’ve really cottoned onto the fact that tourists are dumb and will pay highly inflated prices, and they are not hesitant to exploit that fact. Despite that, they seem very warm and friendly, except the idiots running the laundry next to the Saigon Hotel. Even the touts seem like nice people, once they accept that you won’t tolerate too much nonsense. The girls are very pretty. I really loved the fact that so few had kids. Apparently, squirting out kids without a husband is still frowned upon. I wish more girls were like that here! The food was great and the coffee exquisite.
Overall, I’d have to say the place compares very favorably with Thailand in most respects. The major exceptions are the cost of lodging (if you like more upscale hotels), the difficulty of obtaining all-nighters in said lodging, and the hassle of a visa. Of course, the place isn’t crawling with bars, like Bangkok, but what selection there is seems pretty decent.
All in all, a great place and highly recommended. Thanks to everyone on the board who helped with much-appreciated information!

Like you I am often in HCMC on business but for only a short time so this is what I do.
I walk up Dong Khoi Street which is the street that runs in front of the Sheraton Hotel. Head up the street towardsSaigon River. As you go up the street you will find a few bars on either side of the road with plenty of ladies to choose from. I usually end up in the bar that sits around the first corner on the right. I know some people have said that they feel that it is too. Well to the point but that's what I like about it. You will get captured on the footpath and pulled into the bar. It is small and dark with 1 pool table. The girls wear virtually nothing. I usually pick one, get a beer and before I am half way through they start trying to fix a price for a trip to a st hotel. The bar will ask for a 20US fine, the hotel for 20 US and the girl. Well that's up to you but they are more expensive than the streets but a lot safer. They are clean, not bad looking and slick. I find it a good stand by if you are in a hurry and don't feel like trawling the streets looking for something cheaper. Try it. I think it will fit with your limited time in HCMC.

this sounds like bar29 which is the old u2 bar relocated. one door from the corner of ngo duc ke. but it does not have a pool table. upstairs has comfortable lounges and a 'lovenest' through a hole in the wall which for some strrange reason has concrete benches in it. be wary of the younger ones - some of them are **** and try to pass off on a friends id.
about 50 yards away from the river on the same side there is another bar up a long alleyway. quality extremely variable. this one does have a pool table.
be aware that the bars on the left side of dong khoi as you go towards the river from the sheraton are regular bars and not take-out bars. there is the iceblue pub with female bar staff and heaps of darts at the back, a fancy champagne bar upstairs and the german bar. whilst there might be some freelancers amongst the customers the staff here are not providers.

I'm planning a trip to the area in November. My current stops are Thailand and Cambodia. Vietnam sounds expensive. Is it a worthy stop for me? The food seems to be awesome, but good food alone doesn't cut it. I will be monitoring this discussion for the coming months, but so far my impression is that VN is more expensive than the rest.

What street?Since I have to always stay at the Sheraton Hotel (A condition that my work insists upon) and because I work with some poms and Aussies that live and work in HCMC they have directed me to places around the Sheraton. They took me up the street that runs in front of the Sheraton which could be Hai Ba Trung (as mentioned by Wendella). I found plenty of bars, great looking girls and I was very well looked after but as I said it was too expensive (150 USD in total with hotel) but I must admit I did very little price bargining.
The other placed I picked up was after 10:30pm I found girls in the grass strip/park that is in the middle of the road that sits in front of the opera house. When I went to cross the road they just walked up to me and offered me the full treatment for 60 USD and 20 USD for the st hotel which was within 5 minutes walk. The only thing was she was older looking but she could speak English.
I found it is not hard to find a place but to find a good reliable place that I can drop into each time I go (3 times a year) is more difficult. OK so I am fussy, I want good price, hot girl, and in Dist 1

I do intend to learn them now as I found out that I will be travelling there with work for a few years now. But I have found that after say 10pm or 10: 30pm when I walk around the night markets I constantly get hit upon by everyone wanting to get me a girl but my trust is low when they have to drive me to some place and I guess I have been keeping to bars and massage parlors because I can walk in and if no good then just walk back out again. But I always have a fear of being set up when I get some girl in the street walk up to me slip a st hotel card in my hand and say 60 USD. I guess I am trying to find a couple of good clean places that I can just drop into for a visit and then from there to a st hotel with the girl.
Although I did get such a buzz when I picked up off the street.

I have been taken by locals to nice restaurants there but never explored the area for gals or bars. Would like to know more about whats there.

In my experience, none of the countries in SEA are "alike." It's like a box of chocolates, to coin a phrase. There is nothing like Thailand for selection and availability. If you're looking for cheap (and I don't mean bad, I've had some of my best GFEs in Camb) then Cambodia is best. VN seems somewhere in the middle.
The scene is more "underground" which, truly, is a polite fiction. But there are some annoyances. Virtually all of the "name" hotels either outright forbid bringing girls in, or insist your "guests" leave by 10:00pm.
It seemed to me, from my visit, that the best thing to do would be to get a regular room for a night or two, than ask the girls in the bar which of the nearby mini-hotels are GF. Then, relocate. You'll save a pile of money, and the rooms really aren't bad. Sort of the Asian equivalent of Motel 6, if you're an American.
The food is far, far better than in Cambodia. I think Thai is better in some respects, but not others. If you eat off the street carts you'll save tons of dough (just like LOS) and have some fascinating culinary experiences. Eating with locals is always a hoot.
As far as pricing, it compares favorably with LOS if you shop around a bit. I see some guys are forking over $100 to the girl, plus hotel and taxi. That seems really high. All the HBT bars seem to have their own variations, but they're all pretty similar, at least the ones I visited. At 91, $100 covers the bar, the taxi to and from, and the hotel. One time, it even covered my beer. At NY Saigon, $60 covered the bar and the girl (it's a 50-50 split), the hotel/taxi/drinks are extra. (BTW, DO NOT let the hotel try to screw you. It's $20, not a Dong more). Thien Loc seemed to have the best selection of girls, but the owner is rapacious, and insists the girls constantly hustle drinks, which is a MAJOR annoyance. $100 covers the bar/girl/hotel. I forgot if it covers the taxi, but I think so. BTW, the bar fine here is $20 and you can take the girl all day if you want.
As I couldn't do LT, all these prices reflect ST, which is supposed to be 2 hours. The girl's price may go up a bit for LT. But the net effect is the girls seem to clear $30 - $40 for ST. The remainder goes to hotel/taxi/door touts/kickbacks to the bar owner.
To compare LOS pricing, I have never given a girl more than 2000B LT. I don't think I've ever given more than 1000B ST, but we'll say 1500B. So, at current exchange rates, that equates to about $67, and $50, respectively. This is at the top of the pay scale, as far as I'm concerned. So, the ladies of VN are less expensive. If you have to pay for ST hotels in LOS, then VN is probably, overall, a bit cheaper. If you don't, then LOS is more of a bargain, but only just. This does not factor in such things as the higher airfare to VN, or the cost of a VN visa.
So, IMHO, VN is a great destination, not only for the people or the food, but for the ladies. But, nothing is like Thailand. If you're looking for Bangkok, go to Bangkok. But if you're looking for a more upscale Myanmar, VN fits the bill.

To answer your first question, I turned left when leaving the front of the Sheraton (heading towards Saigon river).
Your second question, Yes it was the Ben Thanh markets and at night they have the night markets around the outside of that building and it has a lot of activity that goes till late. Yes there is action around there and as a guy walking by myself I often get approached by a girl that slips a st hotel card into my hand (usually with 5 minutes walk) and tries to set a price (usually 50 USD). I have been told that there is a lot more around there but you have to find it. I got a foot massage in a little place there (I picked it because it had a heap of youg girls sitting waiting for customers). Great massage but I saw guys coming in and going out the back. Then at the end of my massage the girl asked if I wanted any extras. Because I had to get a plane back and had no time left I said no thanks maybe next time.
So yes I think it has some action which I will check out in June and report back.

I remember getting it back in 2003 when I first got here, and in years since then. Always at 91, 49, 51 and the other bar on that block that has closed, and also at that bar that was on Thi Sach up near Le Thanh Ton that closed a long time ago now. And at one of the ones that used to be up past the KFC on HBT. 91 is relatively new, can't remember when it opened exactly -- 2004? 2005? Maybe it's one of these things they have always tried to get away with but would soften on after bargaining -- I'm not a hard bargainer. And maybe what's changed is the willingness to soften on it. Or maybe I look like the kind of guy to ask for the extra drinks fine from. ;-) (Hey, maybe it's all because of me!)
It'd be easy to check out, just go back to reports from those days and see. But I know I at least got asked for that in most bars, starting in 2003.
Then again, it's probably not worth researching. They charge it now. That's what matters.
Phordphan's summary is pretty much complete except for some comment about the gals.
In Thailand (and I speak only of Bangkok and Pattaya) the gals in the bars all seem to be very commercial and it seems hard to get through to the real girl.
In Saigon even in the HBT bars one can find gals who are freshly up from the Mekong and totally uncommercial. They just do what the mama says but in private they can be real gems.
I have never come across a normal Thai girl who was up for a 'freeby' relationship whereas in Saigon they abound. Waitresses, shop assistants and others are all wanting to improve their english and spend some time in the company of more money than they will ever normally see.
I even met a hot looking street vendor with guide books. I told her I did not want any books and she says 'well what do you want?' . I said 'you' and she went all shy but packed up her books and came with me with no discussion of a price.
There is a similar tale to be told of Manila and Jakarta although some of the shopping malls in Jakarta have gals trolling for johns.
Thanks Sudsoz for your comments. To answer your first question, I turned left when leaving the front of the Sheraton (heading towards Saigon river).
So the bars you mentioned in your earlier report as being on Dong Khoi are actually on Hai Bai Trung as guessed by Wendalla.

Oh no. I think my passport was stolen by one of my gfes. She called me the next day and asked to meet up if i want to get it back. But the price was $250 usd to be given to her friend. Then they wil return my lost pastport. Has this ever happened to anyone before? I am scared shitless now? What can they do to me? Please any advice at this time will be very helpful to get me out of this situation.

Thank for the reply from Phordphan and Sudsoz. Sounds like VN is one of those mesmerizing places that I cannot miss. I'll have a month, so I'll split it between, LOS, CAM and VN.
Hey what does this mean:
Em noi em da ra khoi 29 roi. mean: "I said, I already out of 29"
or:
Em ra ngoai roi. mean: "I already went out"
But if a third person says to you chance "I" to "she"Just to clarify, would it mean that she temporarily left, as in for the evening, or has stopped working there, if 29 was the name of the bar she worked in? Or is it hard to tell which?

If you're an American citizen go to the U.S. Embassy or consulate. Ask to speak to the American Citizen Services Unit. They can issue you a temporary passport. Hopefully you made a copy of the original.
In the furture, always keep your passport locked in your room safe and make a copy to carry around with you.
I'd probably just pay the $$ and chalk it up to a learning experience. Just don't give them the money until the passport is in your hands.

One should always register their passport on-line with the american embassy website, especially if you're traveling often. It makes for getting replacement that much easier.
What should probably happen is when you visit the consulate in HCMC, they'll give you a one year replacement and on the very last page stamp: Replacement for lost passport.
Good luck - don't panic and tell them your passport was stolen (just pick pocket did it and don't mention p4p).

I somehow missed this post earlier.
I had mine stolen in Thailand -- burglary in a hotel room (not related to any GF's!) US Embassy in Bangkok replaced it within a few days, I think it cost me about $80... this was about 5 yrs ago though. In my case, I did give them a copy of the police report, not sure what effect that has on the process.
Myself, I'd be very wary of the plan to get it back for $250 -- somehow I'm doubting someone who'd steal a passport is going to hand it back to you before they have your $250. In that hand-over situation, they'd be holding the evidence on their person and be in a situation that any witness watching could easily see was blackmail and stolen goods -- so it would have to be a pretty dumb person who would just walk out, take your money and hand over the passport. They'd be risking going to prison for a couple hundred bucks. Then again, these girls usually dont' have PhD's. Anyway, there's no risk at the consulate - you'll definitely get a passport there, and I think for less money. And the one thing you do know about the girl is that she certainly can't be trusted, so it doesn't make much sense to put yourself in a situation where you need to trust her again.

I think that this goes a little deeper.
If you go to the Consulate and get a new passport what about the visas that were in the old one and the piece of white card that they leave in your passport? If you are foreign and don't have that form the immigration guys at the airport can be as bad as some of the people on the street.
The negotiation of the deal to get the passport back can be conducted in private somewhere if necessary. But if the gals friend is a thug I would give a hotel security guy a big tip to be there on your side as well.
It also says a lot about selecting your company. I have said a lot here about avoiding the ones that are overly commercial if for no other reason than if they have been in the game a while they will have been exposed to organised crime and this and other temptations. The experience with them is often less satisfactory as well. For me some of the signs that spell commercial are enhanced boobs, tattoos and excessive jewellery.
There are so many sweet and unaffected gals out there (even in the bars) that you just don't need to use these hardened types.
Thanks guys for the good and timely advice. I basically hired a security person to do the work of getting the passport back for me. I am in a foreign land and dont know much. If that didnt work out then I would have gone to the consulate. I just wanted to try the simple way first.I explained to the security guy what had happened and how they wanted $250. I told the security guy here is $350 and whatever price you negotiate below $350 that is all yours to keep. I just wanted back my passport and the paperwork in it. Well to make a long story short. I got back my passport(relieved) and now am back to mongering. The security guy told me he exchanged the money with some guys and never saw my gfe in the group. I am always a sucker for a pretty face and sweet talk. So I guess I have to be more careful. Sometimes a freebie is not really free. I just think of it as a lesson learned. Would you guys have gone straight to the consulate or did what I did instead?
Has anyone of you guys been conned or duped in Se Asia before. I want to hear some stories or examples. I think it would be nice to know the tricks of the trade so future mongers are not duped like I was. First time I have been tricked so far in my mongering career. Hopefully its the last.
I would have nothing to do with this US$250 offer. They could take the money and you'll still not get your passport. If you're tempted, then you must enlist the help of a trusted VN (ideally male) friend. They will know what to do. It happens alot with mobile phone theft.
Time for counterfiet bills ;) Everything in Asia is counterfeit anyway. Double jeopardy is always fun.Cannot agree with this.
