I noted a discussion below about comparative prices for P4P.
I have a bit of a hobby trying to find where to get the cheapest decent quality service in Asia.
So far, Vietnam comes out cheapest by far. But not in Ho Chi Minh, or Hanoi.
By the way, if anyone has similar information about low cost P4P, please let me know.

Depends on what you call decent.
I think you generally get what you pay for. If you go to the provinces with the exception of places like Vung Tau, Than Phiet, Da Nang etc you are going to not get much english and unless you speak Tien Viet the experience will suffer as a result. That's fine if you just want to do the deed.
There is a chinese proverb that says (paraphrasing here) that it is a crime to pay too much for something but it is also a crime to pay too little since you usually won't get all of what you expect.
But I do think there is a point where paying more does not get you anything better. A case in point is the so-called 'models' at Club Royale and Catwalk.
As with most things I think that there is a reasonable price to be paid that secures a nice gal and reasonable service.
It may even be worth starting a special category for special warnings and rip off places so we can all know where NOT to go!
I personally never go on the prowel with a wallet or passport and only have enogh cash in two seperate pockets. I also always make sure the door is locked when I am with a girl and I never let my clothes out of my site.
One other piece of advise I was given by a friend that has been working there for a year is to stick with the bars. He said that the reason is that the lady in charge (Mamasan) is not only there to protect the girls but there to protect the clients and her business as well. He said its a bricks and mortar place and not some street girl that will disappear. A bar worries about its reputation and its business and in most cases is even paying the police (so they want no trouble). He once had a little bit of grief and got into the cab and went straight back to the bar and within minutes had his money refunded and he was willing to bet that when they caught up with that girl she was going to be in for some major pain from the mamasan. Sure he also hits the streets now but he knows where to go and what to watch out for.
I have tried the streets, a bar and a massage parlor and all were great and a lot of fun but you still got to be careful.
I like Sudsoz advice and look for signs of the girl being too professional or a gut feels that things are not adding up right. Like long trip to the st hotel, way too cheap, always on the phone etc
Has anyone of you guys been conned or duped in Se Asia before. I want to hear some stories or examples. I think it would be nice to know the tricks of the trade so future mongers are not duped like I was. First time I have been tricked so far in my mongering career. Hopefully its the last.
A money changer tried to use a "fixed" calculator once in Bali Indonesia which produced a lower value.
I was trying to change a $100 bill so it was easy to understand the scum.
A friend of mine was not with another money changer. When he went back claiming the differene he only managed to break their calculator.
I am always using my calculator/phone when I change money since then.
Some other times I will show them my money ask them to give me the equivalent, count it, and only then give them mine.

I always ask them what they are going to give me back before I hand over the cash. But mostly I just use the ATM's to get local currency.

I would think that it all depends on how much time you have to devote to the pursuit. Occasional tourists, such as I, only have a week or two in-country. Folks with several weeks, it seems to me, in my limited experience, would be much more successful in garnering "freebies." I'm with Mr. Suds on this one.
BTW, I would dispute the claim that freebies are universally better than P4P. Some of my most memorable encounters involved money at some point, and some of the lamest lays I've had the misfortune to experience were free. Maybe it's the experience factor. Maybe you get what you pay for? :)

I just checked and I did in fact use the term freebie although the reality is that they are never free. They cost in a variety of monetary ways and they make demands on your time. But I do think they can be a lot more satisfying than the typical working gal.
However one of the points I was making back there somewhere is that you can find nice unaffected gals in lots of places in Saigon. Sometimes even the newbies that come into the HBT bars are not yet educated in the game.
I tend to come into Saigon for 3-4 weeks at a time and so I have time to do a little cultivation. But even then it is sometimes easier to tell the freebies that I have a business dinner tonight and go and see what new offerings are available from the friendly mamasans.
I am particularly interested in Viets reports about the area behind the BT Markets and will be checking it out next visit. Now such visits I tend to do on my own without any drinking buddies (coz then you tend to drink too much) and certainly without a female handbag.

One of my greatest surprises was a gal who runs an antique shop with her parents. Her BBBJ was one of the most skillful and satisfying I have ever experienced. I would agree, generally. Enthusiam certainly makes up for a lot of deficiencies. And it's usually better when the girl wants to participate.

I have found that around the BT Markets to be an adventure. I have pulled some pretty awesome girls and all within walking distance to a st hotel. The only problem is that there seems to be a lot of real pros that work the same area. One of the girls told me that if you are new then you always hit the main tourist areas and the two main starting places is either the backpacker area or the BT Market area. I often walk around at night and can't believe the talent and the offers I get. You just need to know the good from the bad. Just arrived, took a family run hotel room at the 3rd floor. Its always easy to get a WIFI signal for my laptop.

First of all, if the deal is too good to be true, then most prob it's a scam. $10 for FS should immediately ring alarm bells. The prob scenario here, would've been that they were after your camera (which you prob had slung around your neck in full view).. They would've taken you to a pre determined scam hotel and had decoys ready to confuse you and then take your camera/wallet/phone etc... So consider yourself lucky.
I would say generally you will find that most Viet girls aren't into the photo thing. So busting out the camera at the start will either get you a NO or will attract thieves / scammers.
Be careful!

Well, I certainly am in no position to say where they want to live. (If they're anything like the Thais, they'd prefer to live in their home country, supported by a "wealthy" westerner).
But, I did get the same response, 100% of the time, when asked where I was from.

My camera is my new love. We have met at MBK Mall in Bangkok. After I have just days before bought two high end point and shot cameras I couldn't resist the charm of the new Canon EOS 450D.
Its a professional model with new CMOS sensor. In a professional cameras the sensor sensitivity and ITS physical size is 10 time higher then the best compact model. You can take a shoot before the girls even notice.
I increased the ISO to 1600 and force flash on. In non professional model the noise will be huge and the photo will contain little information.
I have a lens with optical image stabilizer which compensate the hands moment. (Anti shake)
The following are two examples in a total dark environment taken two hours ago. One I disable the flash to get more realistic representation and the other on I forced the flash.
I am travailing tomorrow to the Mekong delta hope to get more luck. Since ISG is not a camera review website I will do my best to get some hot babes in front of my lens soon.

Second - no-one is going to give you names etc because of prying eyes and the fact that they are small places that are quickly overloaded. There is plenty of information here to figure it out.
Sure with some effort you may score in chaotic Saigon. But in the Mekong they come to hunt you since you will probably be the only white guy in town.

So thats a fairly academic confirmation of what we know already.

I'll try to post up some more stuff while I'm here for about another 2 1/2 - 3 weeks. For the first couple of days before and after I got to Saigon, I was religiously reading everyone's posts but it was so difficult to get a proper orientation without any sort of reference point. Anyways, I just had a question to you guys. On Friday, I went into "91" at around 3:30 "unintentionally". What I mean by that is, I was scoping around the streets in the afternoon so that I could come back later in the evening but the afternoon rain showers nowadays are a real pain. Especially since nobody here seems to believe in umbrellas!!! The monsoon season (as I was told) appears to be coming a bit earlier than usual this year. Anyways, I got appropriately soaked! And I scrambled to the "91" bar hoping to catch an afternoon beer and feigning innocence as to what the bar was all about. I didn't know they opened so early but it appears just like any other bar in the afternoon; at least that was my impression.
So, I take a seat and this willowsome little beauty comes up to me with a hand-towel (?) and offers to wipe the rain from my face. Extremely friendly, which felt truly sincere, and her english was really good. She said her name is "Ly" but from reading another poster's comments it might be "Lieu"? It's never their real names anyways so they might change them I guess. But it might not be Lieu. At any point, I felt she was new and had been around about 3 months but I kept making her blush so I don't know what was with that. But I felt really endeared to her after talking a while. Now, the reason why I thought she might be bull-shitting was because she then told me that for the whole day, she can only be allowed to sit with one customer. That's one customer per day that she can sit with and that's it. So, the tip she recieves from that ONE customer is her whole day's earnings excluding going out for ST or LT. But I'm thinking, how can she go out for ST or LT if that ONE customer is the limit? Hmm?
That's where I got really suspicious. Does anyone here know about that. A lady can only sit with one customer per day? That totally doesn't make any sense!!

Was walking around the Dhong Koi area while being approached by different moto drivers. They generally seem to quote prices of about 700,000-800,000 duong for ST.
Does that sound right to you fellow-mongers? I mean, I realize it includes girl, hotel, and tip to the moto but it sounds awfully overpriced considering the ST is only 1 hour.
I was always under the impression that ST was 2 hours and I asked each motodriver twice if the 1 hour was correct. They stated it was, but I found that puzzling. Then, what would a LT be for moto girls?

Nice post. And right on about the nuts. If there's a pack of gum, or something, on the top of the dish, they're not free. Thien Loc always charged me for the nuts, even thought I never touched the damned things. I always protested and they would immediately take it off. Sheesh.
Most of what she told you was correct. The girls don't make a cent from the LDs. Go figure. But, it seems to be the same in Myanmar, for whatever that's worth. The girls are expected to hustle the drinks. If they don't, the owner, or somebody, gets pissed off and things go badly for the girl.
I think the one customer a day thing is an exaggeration. But, they do have an "up" system in the bars, rather like a car dealership. They all may mob you when you walk in the door, but, notice, only one may come up to you after you sit. (This seems to vary a bit, depending on the bar, and whether or not the girl in question speaks English). Whoever's next on the list comes up to you. You're "their" customer. You can ask the mama-san for somebody else, if you don't like her. So, if you don't take her, the odds of her getting another customer may be a bit slim, as she goes to the end of the line, so to speak. But, if you ask for a girl by name, no problem. So, when you go back, just ask for her.
If the lady sits with you, you should always give her something for her time.
I got a real education from spending the day with the mamasan, Moon, from Thien Loc (posted earlier). Everybody and their brother is leeching off the girls. It's pretty disgusting. So, it doesn't hurt to be generous, to a point.

Perhaps I should have elaborated but PP filled in a lot of the gaps.
Most of the bars have a rotation system for which girl gets a new customer and if you do take the first girl and only stay a short time then that girl will go to the end of the line and depending on the traffic she may well not get another customer that night. Not sure that she goes to the end of the line if you choose another immediately.
And if you have been in that bar before they will invariably allocate the same gal again - that can be a bit of a pain because there is really no way to choose another without being pretty negative to the first one.
I always give the bargirls a small tip (VND20 to 50k depending) because if they do get something off the LD it aint much

No it doesn't. That is complete bullshit, obviously. If the girl can only sit with one customer per day, then she'd have no reason to stay after having sat with you. And if they get a good number of customers later that night, what, she's not allowed to sit with a customer because her one-a-day quota is filled? That's absurd. Even if there is a rotation of the girls, your girl said she is NOT ALLOWED to sit with another customer. That's a lie. So what, if a customer came in and asked to sit with her, he'd be told sorry, no she can't sit with you, she already had a coke today.

In any case, regardless whether she gets a cut of the drinks. you need to tip her. That's common courtesy in these bars. You don't tip, you're persona non grata next time. You get the Cheap Charlie tatoo on your forehead. If she did get any cut, it's still not much. They work mainly for tips and take-out. Her lying about 'one customer per day' is actually understandable in this situation because she was in desperation mode to get her rightful tip, and was having to be extra creative to try to get it. So you shouldnt hold that against her. In fact, if you go back there, you should probably immediately give her a tip for last time and say sorry about that, and tell her how you're new and how it's diff in Korea, etc. That's what I'd do, if it was a girl I was keen on being with again. And then give her a tip at the end as well for that 2nd visit.
It would be interesting to compare what different people pay for what level of service in these places. My standard for a decent time with the girl is 100,000 if it's not bad but nothing amazing. If it's less than average or slightly disappointing, something like 70 or 80,000. If it sucks, and even the girl knows it sucked, 50,000. I never pay nothing, unless there was some blatant jaw-droppingly bad behavior. If it's quite good with something especially fun thrown in, really good attention by the girl, then I'd pay 150,000 usually. If it was something amazing I might pay 200,000. Not sure how that compares to others here, would be curious to find out. These are all without any 'extra services' that are on the menu, so to speak.
As for the bad behavior, even then I usually give 50,000 at least. One example was in 49 where a girl took me to the back room, sat in her chair away from me and just repeated "we go hotel we go hotel we go hotel we go hotel" for the full 10 minutes or so I endured it, at which point I cut short our date. It was obvious nothing other than listening to 'we go hotel' was going to happen. It was as if she'd devised the most irritating way to force me to leave. Maybe that's a strategy for if they don't want to sit with you. Fair enough, I guess. You can't expect every girl to want to sit with you. It didn't [CodeWord140] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord140) me off that much only because there was never any chance to get my hopes up, it was an obvious disappointment from the get-go. Still, she harped endlessly to try to get a 100,000 tip, which was not going to happen. She acted indignant to be offered so low a tip. For what though. To be tortured? But if you leave without any tip, even if it's horrendous service, you're probaby going to have that girl broadcast to all the others after you leave that you're a Cheap Charlie.
Anyway, I'm serious, it would be good to compare what amounts we tip and for what.

In a previous post, another person was mentioning about the rotation system and on a slow night, it's possible not to get another customer for the rest of the day unless the customer specifically asks for a certain girl I guess.

If you want to minimize your risk, don't go with some girl who approaches you on the street. I think this is valid not only in VN, but almost anywhere. Stick to the bars if you're a newbie. Again, this is valid advice in almost any country.
"Good" hotels are either not going to let girls into the room at all, or are going to kick them out at around 10:00pm.
The short-time hotels are just fine. The bars all have one they use. If you want to find a GF mini-hotel, all the girls in the bars know all of them in the area. Just ask.

PP has it right but I prefer to use the small hotels and bring them there rather than go to ST hotels. Just like to be in control.
I use several of the small hotels around Mac Thi Boui area and rarely go out of D1.

Many of you may have already seen the filipina singers in Saigon Saigon Bar this season (atop the Caravelle Hotel), but if you haven't, it's definitely worth a look. The (now) lead singer looks like an anime cartoon caricature of a female. In other words, if you sit at the front of the bar you are in danger of being smacked in the face by one of her swinging boobs. The singer usually standing stage left is a very pretty, classy, and young looking woman, and the singer stage right is quite pleasant looking and sings well. When I first saw this group several months ago there was a much more talented lead singer, but even then I sensed there might be some competition between her talent and the other's boobs. And we know which ultimately wins. (In fairness, I have no idea why the first girl left.)
In any event, it's a softcore change of pace, which is nice in a city with no on stage dancing entertainment that I am aware of.

The Nhac Tre bars used to have dancers, but those got shut down. "4 Trong 1" in Dist 6 has a pretty wild dance show, definitely worth a visit. It's a long ways out there on Hau Giang street. There must be others around town, but probably not many. 4 Trong 1's the most interesting one I've seen.

Bobby Brewer is pretty good, just around the corner on Bui Vien. Probably the most comfortable coziest cafe I've ever been in. Free cinema upstairs, what more could you want? [unless you don't like their coffee ;)]

Well, it'd take a time machine to pick anything up there now, so hopefully your interest in the topic is for historical purposes. I saw a few there now and again, but it wasn't really worth the visit for that reason. There used to be a whole string of pick-up places on this stretch of Pham Ngo Lao -- back in 2001 the 2 biggies were Long Phi and Lost in Saigon next to it (Long Phi got shut down and reopened totally scrubbed up in its present location), and then in 2002 and after, Sahara started as a quiet pub-like bar and evolved into an all-out drugs and sex orgy starting when Long Phi got closed, and then Sahara was eventually shut down itself. Guns N Roses was fairly active back then too, but nothing like Sahara. Apocalypse was another that was far more active in the past than it is now. Allez Boo never compared to any of these places, not ever -- not in any year and not at any time of the night. There's nothing like those places these days.

Go 2 up De Tham is pretty much the same kind of bar anyway, big backpacker place with a couple pool tables (and more space upstairs), so it won't be missed much.
Yes Cowa Bunga, Allez Boo was a pick up joint. Mostly the girls hung around outside waiting for passer by's. During my scouting trip here last year I picked up a girl from there, 800k all night, best bj I've had in Nam. She honoured all the conditions I set out and with enthusiasm.

You can casually walk by at 10 in the morning and get dragged in by a 30 something year old. She has an older woman more like 40 but she has great tits and is much more enthusiastic than the younger one. But if looking for something to do you can do it there. If you wait until evening the 51 is full of nice young women for take out. A couple of doors down there's more for take out. Just have a soda at both places and make your decision and enjoy. To be honest I havent had the time to stray very far from the "tried, tested and true", but am planning on being up for more naughtiness this weekend before I depart. So far here are the places I've checked out in the past week:
Maxims - It was commented on here that the club upstairs features 'taxi dancing'. Curious about what it is all about, I stumbled in late one night and realized it was half an hour before closing! A local band was playing awful covers of Vietnamese and French pop songs and ballads as I nursed a drink at the bar. The manageress had a notebook in which she presumably kept tabs on her ladies and as it was close to closing time she was busy with the accounts... she did introduce herself to me and explained that it was VND 160k per hour for the ladies' company, that one could "go anywhere with the lady after closing time" and that I should come earlier the following night! Somehow the impression I got from this board I was half expecting a bevy of wallflower 'stunners' just waiting to be picked but from what I saw this was obviously wishful thinking (or perhaps I arrived too late). The ones who were not with company in the many booths located left of the stage and who walked by close enough in the dim light for me to see were mainly 5 and 6s with the occasional 7. I chatted up one of the ladies who worked behind the bar but she politely declined my offer to take her dancing somewhere else after closing. Would I return? Yes, but with a bunch of guys this would be more fun. An expense account would do very nicely here.
Spa at the Majestic Hotel - someone had mentioned this place for a good, clean rub, which is one thing I always appreciate in my travels. USD 35 for 90 minutes at a 'spa' at an established hotel is cheap for ASEAN standards, but seriously, 'you get what you pay for' definitely applies in this town. My masseuse was a young-ish lady in uniform who administered a rub that was mediocre at best. Therapy rooms are individual not communal (as at many places in HCMC it seems) but doors have a glass panel that takes up almost half the door. No extras were offered for obvious reasons, nor asked. The water in the small jacuzzi adjoining the shower area was lukewarm and despite the towel boy almost insisting I use it, I politely declined. Verdict: In this department the best value IMHO is still in Jakarta, where a 2 hour session at a family-oriented spa like Bersih Sehat is still cheaper and perhaps several times as good! The Indos are way more 'intuitive' with their touch, totally different level of experience - but perhaps I am biased. WIR-No.
Lotus Massage on Thi Sach - Still in search of a good, clean massage I chanced upon this place on the same street as the Apo but closer to the intersection with Le Thanh Ton. Took the 2h 'package' where they soak your feet, then put a facial on you and give you a massage (clothed) at the same time! It was like VND240k for the 'package' but I have to admit being in a room with about 20 other people, male and female expats and tourists mostly, while they administer the massage was a little 'odd'. The rub was surprisingly good, but your enjoyment and relaxation was hampered by the fact that they make you wear t-shirt and shorts while you are about 3 ft. away from the next customer on each side! WIR-No.
Still on the topic of massage, I read somewhere on the internet about 'beauty saloons' on Bui Thi Xuan. Went walking there one evening and there are quite a few of them amongst the several 'mini hotels' along a 100 m stretch. I hardly saw many customers in them, just a lot of cute girls in miniskirts sitting around doing nothing! These are apparently places where you can get a haircut (yes, a real one!), your hair washed, your ears dug, manicure and pedicure and a 1 hr body massage all in one session! I asked my hotel bellboy about it (!) and he says theyre quite popular with viet khieu! Has anyone tried any of these places and has 'scored'? I suppose some viet ability is required for a more worthwhile experience...
Apocalypse Now - much has been said about this place already so I'll keep it brief. Pulled a FL from here who claimed to be from the Mekong Delta near the Cambodian border and has lived in Saigon 'not long'. Judging from her English and her affinity for Vodka+7ups I doubt the latter is true. Quoted VND1.7M for 'as long as I want, as many times as I want'. Probably paid too much but it was early enough in the night and I had to work the following morning so I couldnt be bothered with bargaining. Anyway apparently some of you are paying that (about USD100) for ST! She politely kicked herself out of my room before I had to leave for work, having given me 2 pops through the night and leaving me quite satisfied and her number. Menu: slim+ (slim body with some curves), DFK, very responsive DATY, BBBJ, a bit of a PSE, the way I like 'em. Oh and did I mention AR? ;)
Will be checking out Volcano and/or Gossip this weekend and am open to any suggestions about interesting places to check out, particularly recommendations for good, clean massages. Also, anyone in town need a wingman? PMs are welcome, rednecks/military on shore leave need not apply. ;)

There may be some exceptions but most of these places near D1 are pretty clean with a haircut, shampoo and facial and body massage being part of the deal but no extras. As always the quality of the services can vary considerbly.
For about a year now I have been bedding a lady from one of these places (different location) and that has developed more like a regular relationship with dinners etc.
And I am still paying no more than VND1.2 mill for an allnighter from NY Saigon or Cali. The only time I go to Aco is when I a take a gal or a visitor there.

I have been studiously reading this forum going back an entire year. Phew, I felt like I was back in college cramming for finals! Anyway, I just wanted to let people know that there are more hostess bars of the 49/51/91 type on Le Than Ton between Thai Van Lung and Chu Manh Trinh (that's going east from Hai Ba Trung). I checked out a small one called Tai To. It was super dark when I walked in at 10: 30 so it was hard to see the girls, but one cutie caught my eye so I grabbed her before they could pawn one off on me. Overall, she was only a 7 in terms of body, but she had the most adorable face so I couldn't help myself.
The rates seemed comparable to the HBT bars. A 6-drink barfine if you take the girl out (6x50k dong = 300k + whatever you drank). The mamasan hustled me a little for a tip so I threw in 20k for her which was pretty modest and she wasn't pushy for more. I actually hung out with the girl for an hour and there was no rush to go to a hotel, although maybe it helped that I made it pretty clear early on that I was pretty much sold. She was very cuddly and stroked my hard-on pretty much the entire time. She wasn't too pushy with drinks either. When she asked if she could get another drink, I told her to wait a couple minutes first and she seemed to understand what I meant and totally played along. For the visitors to HCMC, be selective WHERE you change your money. The best rate (as of a few days ago) was 18,400 BUYING USD. Some places will offer you a horrible rate (around 16,000-17,000). The difference is significant
For the people receiving VND as wages, I suggest you renegotiate to a salary in USD. These are the reasons:
1) expectations will have the dong at 24,000 within a year. If so, your wage has been reduced by 33.3% if paid in VND
2) if inflation stays steady at 25% and the dong devalues to 24,000, your earning power has been reduced by over 50%.
BTW: there has been many landlords TRYING to get expats to pay their rent in USD. My advice is to check your lease/contract. The USD rate is only supposed to be there for comparative purposes as all transactions in Vietnam are handled -by law- in dong. There should be a specific rate in the contract at which the USD is translated into VND. This law does not apply to expat salary as we can demand our pay in USD if our contract specifies USD (we are foreign contractors).

The exchange rate was around 18000VND to the dollar today, down from 19000 a few days ago.

You can find tourist info at any of travel shops in Pham ngu lao and De Tham streets. :) And in fact you may find "other" info in this area as well especially at night. Just take a walk, and someone would approach you in no time. But be careful about touts who may take you to a different location on a bike.

It appears HCMC is going the way of Hanoi.51 never had any action past 4pm. The younger of 2 will always take you to the pool table and do what ever you like. Take a full day or half day city tour (the full day tour combines a trip to the Cu Chi tunnels in the AM and a tour of the city in the PM) and will only run you USD 6-12 from the myriad of tour operators in Pham Ngu Lao. The city tour is a good primer for getting your bearings, IMHO. You can then choose the sights/places you want to return to for a closer look on your own. The only drawback to the tours is that they include a trip to the "local handicraft store" so that their bosses can maintain a 'working relationship' but you're not pressured to buy anything. ;)
For extra-curricular activities - there's enough information on this board to keep you busy for a few nights. Regarding guest-friendly hotels, the ones around Ben Thanh market are likely so. Don't go beyond 2 or 3 stars (on the Viet rating - there's usually a bronze plaque out front) If in doubt ask discretely about having lady guests. They'll clue in and respond accordingly. If theyre not cool about it just proceed to the next, likely a few doors down!

Sorya Transport Company (3 daily departures) and G.S.T. Express bus (1 daily trip) charge 10 USD and leave from the New Market in Phnom Penh. More upscale options are the Mekong Express Limousine Bus and Saraco Tourist (12 USD). All buses arrive in the Pham Ngu Lao backpacker area in Ho Chi Minh City.
I prefer to keep my plans flexible and bought my bus ticket on the day. Staying near the market, I walked to the Sorya office and bought a ticket for the 11.45 bus a couple of hours beforehand. If you turn up near the departure time, you may find the bus is fully booked!
The bus left around noon. After the ferry crossing at Neak Loung, the bus stopped for lunch in Svay Rieng. At the Bavet/Moc Bai border crossing, the passports are handled collectively. Your luggage is X-rayed on the Vietnamese side. The roads are much broader and better in Vietnam, with separate lanes for motorcycles and cars. :) The journey takes about 6 hours.
Bus to Phnom Penh
The aforementioned bus companies all have offices in the Pham Ngu Lao backpacker area, where all buses depart from.
Heading out around 8 AM, and doing a tour of the bus companies, the earliest departure with available seats was 1 PM. The 11.30 departure (Sapaco) was fully booked. The girl at the Mekong office was too busy!
I took the Sorya bus again, as it would drop me off right where I wanted to be. On the bus, they charge 25 USD for the Cambodian visa on arrival. You can save 5 USD by handling the paperwork yourself, as I did.

The regular rooms are large, but windowless and cost 30 USD. City view rooms are equipped with a safe and cost 5 USD more. All rooms feature A/C, hot water (slow!), TV and minibar. The hotel keeps your passport during your entire stay, as all Vietnamese hotels do.
Hotel reception will propose to send girls to your room. The pimps outside will offer to call for girls. Mainly used as a ST hotel, motorcycle girls are constantly coming and going – ideal for pick-ups! Being just a short walk away from the Pham Ngu Lao backpacker area, the hotel location is pretty good.

Motorcycle taxis (moto om) are a cheaper alternative. I used them all the time when I went sightseeing in 1999, but never took one this year. I ticked off every single tourist attraction mentioned in the Lonely Planet guide on my previous visit. I had no interest in sightseeing this time around.

You pay 10, 12USD for one way to HCMC from PP. (it is very cheap isnt it)
As part of "their service", they sign the customs paper (the white card) for you, by copying your signature on your passport. They dont think nothing beyond that; like when you are leaving Vietnam what happens if the immigration officer at the airport wont let you go because your signature on the passport and the customs card dont match. But dont think too much. It was too late when you handed your passport to the bus company (no choice) when you got on the bus.
These guys on the bus dont speak a word of English and dont understand the importance of your passport, and probably dont understand what the customs card is for.

For Angor Wat, you need 2, 3 days to appreciate the place. I had only one day, which was not enough. It is a huge place, so you'd better to research the place first so as not to miss the must-see attractions. SR->PP>HCMC is a long way on a bus. You need to stop in PP for a night or so. In Saigon, for a short stay, your "activity" will be very limited, unlike BKK. For a longer stay like 3, 6 months onwards, there seems to be "unlimited access" to pussies. Was in HCM(Saigon) Vietnam for a week in September 2008. I stayed at the Saigon Mini and the Hong Thien Loc Hotel. Both are 2 star, but clean and more than adequate. Book through https://hotels-in-vietnam.com/index.html.
Generally speaking 2 star and below will allow guests, some overnight, some out by 9 or 10 pm. Your best bet is to check when checking in. The hotels are located in the Backpacking area around De Tham. Lots of decent restaurants around there as well. One bar/restaurant that seems to be the focal point around that area is Go2 at the corner of De Tham at 187. I note it because late at the night the working girls arrive there. Next door to Go 2 there is a small beer bar that seems to be a focal point for a group of foreigners from Nigeria; lots of comings and goings of folks who spend a lot of time scoping out the area and talking on cell phones. I am not completely sure what they are up to, but I would suggest a wide berth as such activity can get a traveler in Dutch with the local authorities.
Downtown, I checked out one bar with ladies of the evening or mid afternoon one block up from the Majestic Hotel at 29 Dong Khoi. The place has about 20 or so young ladies, so look real young, so I would check IDs before doing anything. My buddy pulled a girl out of Apocalypse Now, located about 3 to 4 blocks away and it cost him 30 for a short time. It was supposed to be all night but she complained of a stomach ache after one time and he paid her and sent her on her way. Other than that the tunnels of Chu Chi are worth the trip.
Anyone here know of an unexpensive way to fly to Thailand?
I don't want to spend too much time in HCMC as the noise is starting to get to me now.

Wow, Air Asia has going to BKK at 54usd and coming back to SG for 58usd. Now that's a good price for a no frills airline on an A330 I believe. Plane must be packed to make money at that price. So I take my own water and food, no problem at that price.

Cho Lon has some but not many white guys around and I like the feel of a little security (hehehe) of District 1. There is a mens hairdresser nearby that offers shampoos and massage etc but no extra services on the premises. If you can make arrangements with the gals that's up to you.

Have one of the more reliable moto drivers that hang around the Viet Airline office near the Rex Hotel take you to a bia om if that's what you want. Don't take more money than you need and tell the driver you'll pay him on the return, he will protect his "pay check" and make sure you get home safe if he wants paid. Plus his cut from the house. I was taken to one outside China town and had a very good time, I went early so not many locals around and had my pick of girls, all nice looking, all young and very willing.

My exp. with bia om was a small, not so well kept mostly out door facility, where there were a group of girls, you have a beer, choose a girl and go in the back room for service. First note: A visa on arrival is fairly easy to do. I paid $25 to do it online, and it took a minute to fill out the info. They then send an invoice, and they either want a bank transfer, or Xoom.com payment. I had never used Xoom before, but it was easy to set up. If you Google Xoom plus coupon, you can find one to avoid the fee. I used Paypal to fund the Xoom payment since I figured if there was a problem, there would at least be some chance to reverse the charge.
Upon arrival, you go to the Landing Visa windows (To the left of all the customs booths). The guy took a look at my document, and just ripped it up, and gave me a new form to fill out. You need one passport style photo. You then give it back with the photo, and he hands it off to the back to process. About 15 minutes later, a lady comes up and you pay the fee ($25 for a single entry), and she hands you back your passport.
I was first in line, so if you're further back, I can imagine it taking an hour or so.
Taxi booths quoted $12-$14 for a ride to my hotel in Dist 1. I used the meter, and paid about 100k.
I've been in HCMC for a few days, and staying at a 5 star hotel at the moment. It's been better than I thought so far, but nothing extraordinary so far.
I got a massage at non-sexual massage mentioned for 165k for 90 minutes in District 1. Other than the fact that the lady was giggling for the first 20 minutes, it was pretty good. She also seemed in love with my goatee, and kept pulling it and giggling.

When I'm on a long trip (This one will be 27 days total in 4 countries), I like to check out a movie. I saw three theaters listed in the paper in Saigon, with not much exciting. I decided, after a quick BBBJ at Cafe 29, to cool off at a movie.
I had a taxi card filled out by my hotel for the Parkson Shopping Center in District 5. The address is 126 Hung Vuong St. Lower levels are just the shopping center. Supermarket and food courts are on level 3. Movies are on 7th level.
Weekend pricing is 70k, Wednesday special 45k, otherwise 60k. The movie theater is quite nice with good quality seats with raise-able arms.
After the movie was over, I went down to the food court. Decent meals in the 25k-60k range. For the first 40 minutes I was the only obvious foreigner there. Lots of young people and family. I then saw some teenagers come in. I don't know how easy it is to pick up the ladies here, but I did get a lot of attention. Of course, children look at me, and cry and run to their parents, so it's probably that. ;)
This would probably be a good place to take a date to. As long as you get on the elevator quickly, and don't pay the huge bucks for the perfumes at Parkson! Lots of really cute demonstration girls.

It's Quan An Ngon. 138 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia. District 1.
I ate here a few times, and always had great food here. Seafood, beef, pork and chicken. Most are in the range of $2.50-$6.00 per entree. I often tried a few different things, and never spent more than $10.

I saw an ad for a Brazilian style Churrasco restaurant, and decided to give it a try. I like this style of endless tableside meat, if it's done right. I know it's a bit much to expect much in Asia, but I'm always optimistic.
I went around 7pm. Cost is 390k+. You get all the meat you want, plus they also bring by salad, steamed spinach, black beans, etc. Unlike all Churasco places I've been to around the world, this one did not have a buffet part where you got your sides. Everything was brought to the table.
It started with warm bread and two cheese covered clams. Most of the servers brought two dishes, except for the salad server.
The meat is not salted like it is in Brazil, which is probably good, since they often put a bit too much on for my taste.
You get beef, chicken, shrimp, lamb, and I think, pork. One of my favorite combinations was the ham, with roasted pineapple they sliced off. The shrimp wrapped in bacon was also quite good, as long as it was fresh.
Not a great deal, of course, but about 460k with water, and 10% tax. No service charge was added.

I had run out of Cialis a few months back, so decided to see if I could find some reasonably priced in HCMC.
The first place I tried, I asked for Cialis, and they gave me a generic, but it was actually Viagra, which just gives me a headache. When I went to the Go2 bar, there was a small pharmacy down the street that had original (if the box is to be believed) Cialis for 300k for 4 pills.
I had some other expensive prescriptions for a family member that I was hoping to pick up. I ended up finding some generic versions for 1/10th the price I pay for them, as well as 60% off on some name brand ones.
I also found some generic Tadalafil (Cialis) for 50k per tablet. I used the original Cialis and it seemed to work fine. (I get the 20mg pills and break them into 2-3 parts). I have heard about a lot of fake stuff, so use common sense.
There are a lot of Pharmacies bunched up on HBT. In the 300 or so area. (309, is one I remember). Always price shop, or course. I found variations of 10-20% even in this area.
For other items, I think the closer you get to India, and the source of many generics, the cheaper they are. I found some $1 each generic Cialis in Sri Lanka.

I have the same problem with V and bite the 20 mg Cialis off into smaller bits like you. The Pharmacies on HBT are more expensive than the smaller ones or even the ones on Nugyen Hue. The one I go to most is on Mac Thi Boui near to the Bach Dang Hotel and 300k is the regular price for real stuff. At that price I don't see any point in using the generics. I find it best to ask for Tadalafil rather than Cialis.
I have been told that after Xmas there will be more restrictions placed on pharmacies supplying without prescription. This is directed at the excessive use of antibiotics (which makes the bugs more resistant) and I am not sure if it will effect Tadalafil.

I think more mongering action happens in the HCMC/Saigon area. Dollars or Dong were accepted with no problem for me with the chicas in VN.

Guys how should I go about asking for her number? I definetely want to go out with this girl. It is tough to ask for her number when her coworkers are around. Any advice?
After the Bvlgari girl I went to the section where they were advertising the new Samsung cellphone with the purple hair girls. There was two of them and one was really cute. So I walked past her and touched her hair and asked her if it was real. She just smiled and said jokingly yes. I asked her what were they advertising and she showed me the new Samsung cellphone meant to compete with the Iphone. I just asked to see it. Just so I can talk to her more with no intentions on getting the phone. Phone was $800 usd. Ouch. Girl was very friendly and I had good vibes with her.

Make deals with them like buy perfume and would you like to go out dinner with me and be my little tour guide. Give them some tips. Spend them eat. Tell them. And no strings attached la.
As for phone a little quite hard. Just say you are new in Viet. Maybe ask her for some nice places eat. Then tell her eh. Why don't you come with me I spend you eat with herr friends. ! Bringing her out with her friends would most likely make her feel you are more sincere.
Its just how I would do it. But please la. This is just an example. You are a guy you should know how to find tricks and ways to get the girl to give you their contacts.

Crikey mate - you got me confused with all the la la la's!
Anyway most so-called ordinary girls in Saigon are keen to improve their english and keen to spend some time with a foreigner away from their normally squalid living conditions. Not a lot of subterfuge is required - usually hand her your phone and say 'give me your number I'll buy you nice dinner' and that's all that is required.
The amount of work involved after that can vary considerably.
