I just returned from HCMC May 18th. I stayed at the Thanh Long Hotel at 54 Pham Hong Street. It's across the street from the New World hotel in Dist. 1. I had several different girls in my room at different times with no problems. Day and night. But never any of the prostitutes. I do know that the Doorman or owner will get one for you if you like. Here's the report I promised.
I was in HCMC in May. One nite, I felt horny and let my dick do the thinking. I allowed myself to be persuaded by the cyclo rider to take me to a hot toc somewhere in Q3. After a HJ session with one of the big busted girl, I came out and the cyclo rider told me he's tired and intead recommend a motorcyle taxi to take me back to my hotel in Q1.
The motorcycle however took me to Q11 and pretended to have lost his way. He looked for a waiting taxi and hustled me into it. Immediately, a few of his friend appeared and one of them get into the taxi with me. I was threatened and emptied of my pockets. Luckily, I did not carry much cash with me and no other cards or passport. They were disappointed but did not harm me physically, and left. The taxi was not part of it. In fact, the taxi driver is very helpful and took me back to my hotel, waited patiently while I get back to my room to get my money to pay him.
Morale of the report: NEVER TRUST ANY CYCLO AND MOTORCYCLE TAXI RIDER AT NIGHT.& DO NOT CARRY MORE THAN ENOUGH CASH WITH YOU.

I have been to vietnam many times before and will go again on August 10-26. Let me give some info on what I know. I was back there last year. The club scenes were closing early because of drug problems. I think at midnight. The girls in the clubs are by far the prettier ones but they cost up to $50 USD for the night. I think the cost are sometimes high because the girls might have to split the money if they are introduce to you by friends or mamasans. The clubs in Saigon are Monaco, Spaceship, Club 2000. Just ask the hotel or taxi drivers. Don't ever go on the motorbike but the car because they are registered and won't charge you anything thing extra. There are smaller clubs where there are slower music and girls in there that can dance with you for a small fee. Most of these girls will go back to the hotel with you. I went to the Catwalk club last time. It's in the New World Hotel. I think all taxi drivers know it and everyone else because Clinton stayed there during his visit. Anyways. There was about 50 girls in there (all very pretty) just sitting around or dancing with each other. There were only five guys in there the whole night. One of the guys told management that he want one of the girls to go sing karaoke with him on the upper floor and off she went. I know many other places including one at super bowl next to the airport. I would not recommend taking girls off the street because these girls are often not as pretty, use drugs, or good at pickpockets. There are cheap but probably not worth it if you are not the adventurous type. Some of the hotels with offer you pretty girls for the clubs for $50 or more a night. Bullshit. Excuse my language. They tried that on me many times but I'm not a rookie here and knew better. They just grab 2 girls from the street and pay them almost nothing. They let you choose one and return the other or return both and get two more new ones if you don't like the first two. The hotel workers could see that you are white or single and would offer girls to you. Just decline politely because it's a ripoff.
I do know pick up places in other cities as well. Like da lat, nha trang, da nang, etc. Take too long to list here. If you like to know more about anything just email me or ask on this forum and I'll try to get back to you asap. Anything for massages, bars, clubs, prices, travel, hotels, etc.
As for Saigon. Was last there in '99. Last time I was there you coudnt bring ladies back to your hotel (if the hotel is nice). There are love hotels, but, felt it was too risky to try...though I hear many people do it. Though, Ladies can visit you in your room during the day. So, I didn't mind have the girls come over at 10am for a quickie, lunch, and some sight seeing, then back to the hotel for more action and maybe swim. there are some bars/discos to go to meet girls..the only one I remember is Apocalypse Now.

what's up guys..i'm back from my trip to thailand and vietnam. so here's the report that i've been promising.
first off, i'm going to tell about my trip to thailand so for all those out there that only want to know about vietnam then skip down.
i spent four wonderful days in the land of smile..and you can bet that i was smiling my whole trip there. i first visited the eden club...only the best there is. check their website for info. i had two lovely thai girls that do everything i like and they were experts like no other. all your fantasies can and will come true here. the good gogo bars are long gun in soi cowboy, any rainbow in nana plaza, and g-spot in nana plaza. there are all types of girls: tall, long hair, big breasts, etc...well at least that's what i like. just be careful because one of the girls i almost went with at rainbow was only 15 years old and i could tell she wasn't the only one ****. the thai girls are really nice and treated me very special so i'll go again next year to see them.
now about my trip to vietnam. the nightlife is still dead
...everything closes at midnight. there are a few new disco clubs that are hot. blue is number one right now and lots of hot girls there. the only problem is that they are more expensive now then ever. the girls only go for one hundred and up for the night. the girls also don't hit on you like before so you have to be aggressive and not be afraid to ask. if they are sitting in a group of four girls or so with no guys around, then the are working girls. if not then they will politely tell you that they are not interested and you can go to the next group. lots of beautiful working girls in there. if you only like to dance and talk with them then tip them 5 dollars and that is more then enough. these girls only have customers two or three times a month! and that is more than double the average person in vietnam. the other club to go to is speed on tran hung dao. speed is a little less crowded but still lots of fine girls. i mean these girls are prettier then the models in vietnam by far. speed is a good place to go on the weekend when blue is too crowded to walk in. go about 9:30pm to 10pm and it closes at midnight.
i met one of my girlfriend at blue. she was sitting across from me and all i could do was stare at her like a fool. she was the prettiest thing there. one of my buddies saw my mouth open and drooling so he came over and talk to the girl for me. she wasn't a working girl but still single. i came over and talk with her and got her number. dated her a few times and we got along great. thinking about marrying this one next year so wish me luck guys.
my other girlfriend, i met at cafe nhac tre and bar at 131 nguyen hue. nice bar with music and comedy every night. the bartender girls were really nice to me and so were the waitresses. lots of them gave me there phone numbers but i was only interested in the pr girls. they are the dancers and really fine. i believe that one of them even won the beauty pagent in saigon a few days before i left. i took her out to eat to celebrate it with her. she is one of the few girls that i met that is taller then me and i am 5'9.
anyways, i like another girl there better and we dated for five or six times. took her jetskiing and bowling etc. sorry guys..i'm not as wild as usual because i was looking for a real girlfriend to marry this time around so didn't want to lose time playing around.
this bar is for guys who want a relationship only because these girls are not working girls.
i stayed at the same hotel again. the hotel across from there is called thai thien and many girls come and go from there. most of the girls are called by the hotel or with someone already. there are many street girls at midnight to three but i don't bother with them because most are druggies. most haircut places and massages are clean now...nothing special. cops are too strict now. karaoke places are okay but cost a lot. you can arrange with the girls to meet you afterward but not worth the trouble.
in summary, the best and probably the only place you should go to find nice looking girls are in the discos at blue and speed. my friends got fine looking girls all over them there. oh, there is a coffee shop called window's cafe in saigon. all the fine girls are there after 1pm or noon time before they go to work. just hang out there to meet friends or look at all the fine girls who come in and out of there. definitely the finest girls in vietnam all go there.
one more thing, i didn't go in catwalk at new world hotel but passed by it many times. i always have dates and damn country closes the nightlife too early that i can't go on dates and have fun afterward. i see a few really nice looking girls sitting out front with foreigners so that could be a nice place to check out especially for those who have lots of money. classy girls in there that are all working girls.

Hey Dog, long time no hear. There are a large number of Hot Toc near the the Eastern Bus station, can never remember the name of the one I frequent just recognise it from the outside. Never got around to trying many of the others in the area.
Still pay VND 70,000 for a shampoo and BJ no tip required. I can think of worse ways to spend a hot lunch time.

I'll be there in November too, I'd like to meet up with some of you guys. You need to go with local people; otherwise, you won't be able to tell which one offer BJ Coffee Shop. When I went with my friends, they told me many of the good ones were shut down because of the gov't crackdown.

i see a lot of posting now. let me see if i can try to answer some of the questions posted. about the hoc toc place..it's on the quoc lo (the main road that leads out of saigon). most taxi drivers know about this place. there are lots of cafe om in thanh da. usually the ones with the little coconut trees in front means there are girls. i went to one my last trip because i know the owner there. i took the loverly girl to eat and listen to viet music before going back to my hotel for the night...cost for me was only $3 because the girl was willing to go for free. i know how to get there but i don't really know how to show others to get there though. i'm sure there are lots of places like that in thanh da though. best bet is to find local connections.
there are lots of karaoke places but not worth the money spent there. the girls will go with you for $21 but the cost at the place is like $50 because the girls drink and open everything they see. they get yelled at if they didn't. for that price, i rather go to a club or bar and pick up a nicer looking girl with more class. most people go to karaoke bars only to do business and sign contracts.
but for those interested..there is one on 275 le thanh ton...across for the new world hotel. it'll say karaoke so can't miss it. it's one of the better ones.
i have been to local brothels. the one i went to have some nice looking girls with big breasts too. i can't find that place again if my life depends on it because you have to make a thousand turns in some small streets. the local people knows and it caters to local people. i tried a few other spots like that but nothing good. most of those places have girls that are ugly and also can't go with you. only action there and cost with tip is $5. the girls are usually from the countryside and can't leave even if they want to. they also have sex with many local guys everyday so up to you though. i did enjoy the one that i went to though.
about hotels...most 3 stars hotels will let girls up. i see no problems there at all. most of those hotels will cost about $17 per night so stick to the price. most vietkieu stay there. if you are going to stay for a month..you might want to rent an apartment with a/c and everything fo about $200 a month. i have mentioned dai loc on 271 le thanh ton...right next door to the karaoke place or tan hai long on le lai..near ben thanh market. both are in the heart of all the action...which is district 1.
about girls who will spend the month with you..there are so many. i would just go clubbing or to a bar and pick up a girl for free. they would love to hang out with you and take u places. if you want to pay for it then same place hihi. just try the clubs like blue and speed....see if you like the girls there.
not many girls in vietnam have big breasts. i know there are some in other asian countries but not in vietnam. about model girls...you can find them at model/fashion shows. i have no problem asking them out on dates and none have refuse so far. i'm on the shy type but sometimes have to be brave. i'm just average looking at best so be confident.

It was a PM's decree so regardless of which sector police will go after. Recently, the vice squad busted a group of Korean men were having sex with prostitutes at the hotel after they met at the karaoke parlor in 1st District.

Hello all, so we know something is going on in HCMC. A bad news for a guy like me....who's getting there in a week or so.
So how does it look in HCMC? Is it pretty dead at nightclubs and all? How are the people(girls and expats) reacting to this....policy? Is it still OK to bring girls to hotel rooms? What about the massage parlors? Are they being raided too? Thanks for the info.

do not worry you will find enough girls around. AN basically has the same number of girls, as well as HBT bars and massage places. the only difference really is that everything, with the exception of some girlie bars, closes at 12.00. so don't wait too long.

good ( and expensive) department store is diamond plaza, right smack in the center of town, near cathedral. you might also go to dong khoi street and try and find something in all the little shops that line this street.

had to try something new last night and went to medusa club, behind amara hotel.
had never been there before, but heard a lot about it, so i was of course quite curious.
arrived about 9.00 pm, walked into the ground floor lounge, sat on one of the very comfortable sofas there, waiting for things to happen. first impression - place is very stylish..and very empty.
soon the mamasan approached me asking if i desired company. a few minutes later she brought about 10 girls, that had been hiding upstairs, to my table for selection. 5 - 7's, not such a great menue. anyway found one girl to my liking and asked her to sit down with me.
as this visit was only for reconnoissance i was happy that she could speak reasonable english and explain to me the set up.
here is a quick overview of prices mentioned:
table charge ( that's a charge for you to sit down at a table, without girl) USD 10 ( i think if you decide to sit at the bar this charge will not apply)
girl charge USD 10 + drinks (my girl drank milk (!) which was USD 3.00 a glass, my gin tonic USD 5.00)
if you would like to sit in one of the numerous karaoke rooms upstairs the cost for this is usd 40 ++ (drinks etc)

What a coincidence that I decided me too to know a bit more about this place yesterday evening. Maybe we met... I did not even sit down, I just asked the young and tall mamasan about the prices and got the same info as you. As I asked durectly if it was possible to take a girl out and how much, she answered ''of course, no proble.'' ST means 2 hours, 70USD, and overnight 100usd. The only thing I did not know is the 10 USD X 2 for sitting with a girl. She had just mentionned 10 USD for chatting with girl. I did not know also that the hotel have a specail rate of 45usd for the customerse of the club. The reception quotes 60usd for the cheapest room. The few I saw seemed to be really beautifull girls, who seem can be seen walking on the different floors of the hotel, going from the club to the rooms. I might try next time, if the mamasan garanties the service. The more beaautifull the girls are, the worst service is, especially with the Vietnamese.

According to several news sources, there was a big fire broke out at the Blue Disco and quickly spread to other floors at the International Trading Center in HCM City. There were 54 people died and many injuries and the number could climb higher. So for now, if the Blue Disco is on anyone's list then start to look for other place to pick up chicks. saigon is alive and rocking this christmas. even with the crackdown still going on, early closing hours and so, there are many new girls in town. generally a good selection. the longer i stay here the more convinced i get that there are many very beautiful women here and many of them enjoy sex very much (and often). that does not mean that they would do it with me for free, but the spirit of the GFE is easy to find.

I went for christmas and stayed for a total of 25 days and i had to make 800 dollars last so you can understand why i didnt do anything. My plane ticket from San Francisco to Saigon cost a total of 1280 including visa which is quite expensive but it was a last minute thing and I really wanted to go so i paid it. They have fre breakfast and other services too. All those hotels youve just mentioned are all clusted together in dist 1 which is the main spot to be in saigon so either one will do. I am sure there are hotels that have lower price range but you get what you paid for. For weather-wise, here is a quote from Lonely Planet web site:

Are you going to the fair and then stopover to Vietnam? I don't know how long you are going to stay in VN so it's hard to say. Any member here has any idea or tips that can help Mr. "warriorxxx"? Saigon's nightlife scene (i.e., adult entertainment) is different from BKK's because it's not obvious but in a subtle way. In recent weeks, police raided some hotels when the girl(s) and her client were in action in their room. So be careful!!!!

Could anyone explain me what kind of shows and places it was refering, as I never saw anything like a a gogo bar in HCN city.

There is no go go bar in HCM city. There were some bars allowed the hostesses to strip nude, but they were raided and closed down by the gov't.

1. i plan on going back to cambodia again and have heard that it's possible to enter vietnam by land. is this true, and if so, does anyone have any info about the length of the journey and costs involved? in other words, is it less of a hassle to just fly from phnom penh?

you are in hcm city now. good for you bro. there is one massage parlor named hoang thanh near hoang thanh restaurant on nam ky khoi nghi st in district 1. it's a big massage parlor. if you don't know just tell the taxi driver. most of them know the place. if i remembered correctly, it's 10usd/hr for massage and if you want extra just ask the massage girl. i was given a hj plus some touching (i.e., tits, pussy) for 10usd. i don't know if fs is allowed there. remember to negotiate the price because the girl(s) always give you a high price if you are a foreigner or viet kieu (overseas vietnamese). i was there with some local friends while i went there.

taodan: thank you for the info. i will go there if i don't do a day trip to vung tau this morning. vietnam is lots of fun and the town is pretty wide open in this scene. you just have to look a little harder but district 1 is very active.
i can now confirm gossip, club speed are closed. pretty sure liquid is too but i am not 100% sure. hoang lan bar on thai lung street is not open 24 hours anymore as reported in an earlier report. another interesting place i found is a very upscale bar called camarague on bis thi sach street next door to cafe mogambo. its a regular bar and not all girls are on the program but i did notice some that later showed up at an. pickups are not very open here but certainly possible. some nice eye candy to look at though. i also visited u2 a kissing bar just off hai ba trung. my new friend got down to business right away. selection isn't great but i found one that looked good to me. one lady drink and then retireds to the "back room" for fun and games.

There was a place called Green Fields on Mac Thi Buoi but it closed. U2 offers similar sort of quality and service i.e an area at the back for BJ and some rooms upstairs so you don't necessarily have to buy a girl out. I paid VND 100,00 for a BBBJ after deciding not to go upstairs for VND 300,00.

HCM CITY - The HCM City People's Committee has slapped a midnight curfew on all dancing and karaoke bars in the southern city from October 9, as part of a major crackdown on discos and bars.
The committee has decreed that all dancing and karaoke bars in public places, including cultural centres, clubs, parks, theatres, cinemas, discotheques, hotels, guest houses, and karaoke bars will be forbidden to operate from midnight to Sam.
Any dancing or karaoke activities which violate operation licences, or break commitments that owners have made to maintain public order will also be hit by the crackdown.
In a bid to reduce the noise when bars and discos are open, the committee has set new sound volume regulations.
Under these regulations, the maximum sound level for karaoke bars and discotheques has been set at 70 decibels from 6am-10pm, and 50 decibels from 1 Opm-12pm.
The committee is also clamping down on drunks, threatening to punish karaoke bars and discotheques which serve already inebriated punters. A ban will also be introduced on sales of drinks containing 30 per cent of alcohol or more.
Any activities which could be seen to incite violence or promote sexual promiscuity will also be banned, as will the employment of people under the age of 18.
The committee said it will only grant two-year operation licences for these ac-tivities according to the city's plan that has been approved by the People's Committee.
Establishments which want to extend their licences must apply to the municipal Department of Culture and Information, one month before the licences expire.
Individuals and organisations that lease rooms for karaoke or discos will also face legal procedures if they break the new laws.

May I add this very recent experience : I am in Hanoi now. For once, I had decided to try the GF thing. I don't know if you can get FS at the massage parlors in VN given the setting of the room (i.e., door with glass that can be seen through in and outside and the lighting). I may be wrong. Not only barber shops but other venues (e.g., coffee shops) also provide services too. Most of those places are far from tourist areas thus to get there you have to go with local people; otherwise, you are out of luck.

Here’s some info on the street scene in HCM.
Lot of spot’s, mainly girls riding motorbike, sometimes with pimps waiting for people to stop. Those places are not foreign oriented but cater to locals so let’s not ruin the market.
Price is often depending of timing, if late night price can be really cheap comparing to early evening. Here are few things I have seen in HCM so far and thanks to all contributors in this forum.
AN: is still there and alive. There are alot of people from Mon to Sun and quality are 6 to 7. I do not think price change that much and I can not find any good looking one for less than 35. It opened till 2AM..amazing place.
Club 777: first and second floor. few good looking one but you need to speak the language here. I also saw few of them from AN here as well. One day I drank with the manager here and his name is Hoan and one of his niece is a cashier at the bar on second floor. Some information for the male visitors to Saigon.
There are various types of services avail as I soon found out with the help of some pointers from this forum and vietnam fun. Here goes
1. Massage Parlours.
Like the ones in SG and MS, these operate in more or less the same way except that it is almost impossible to get a FJ or BJ. It appears that HJ are the max allowed and it's not cheap (max 200000 VND) Do not pay more and bargain down. Opening is always 500000 for foreigner so bargain! The massage is however a full 1 hour and very good. Service wise I think it is way above the ones in SG and MS and worth the money. You can feel the girl up but I can tell you that there's nothing to that I feel. The novelty will wear off quite fast. If you want BJ and maybe FJ, you can try Hot Toc/Barber shops.. ALL of them have specials and these take place at the back. For me however, I do not like these places (altho it's cheap) as I like a nice a/c place.

Personally stayed a the Daewoo before and found it to be the most convenient compared to other 5-star hotels in town for companionship. Just head on down to the club and pay around US$ 12 for a drink and call up the girl you like. Following are standard where you can chat them up to check them out. Well, stopped over in HCMC for a quick first ever visit just to see if its worth a longer visit for future for business first and pleasure after hours!

Aside from HK and perhaps parts of China now, I have never ever felt the buzz of another city more than here. Partly, this is because of the incessant quantity of motorcycles whizzing pass you in the streets of the city during business hours!
Shops and the market looked lively so, the future potential for business here I gather can and will be huge! A market of more than 11 or is it 17 million people - must be huge!
Places I had time to check out.
Massages - did not try any as time was limited and I had other things to do in the day.
Was also not keen on expensive high class joints and that meant that I was limited to just "karaokes, bars" and "discos."
First night - was totally alone. Went out late at 9.30pm so headed straight for Apocalpyse now since it was highly recommended by most books, guides and the internet.

First port of call, if arriving at HCMC, should be the Saigon Bowl, which is just along the road from the Airport, seriously you could walk in 5 minutes. Upstairs near the bowling alley is a massage 'parlour' .. it's huge, recreation area is about the size of a hotel ballroom. The place is well appointed, very clean and cheap ... about S$10 for a 60 mins. massage. During the day there are not so many girls, evening is busier. Same arrangment as your average Sing HC. The girls are generally very pretty extremely obliging and about anything goes. Depends how good you are at negotiating or desperate you are. First off .. HCMC .. most of the bigger hotels don't encourage 'friends' stopping over, they will either forbid you or charge you for an extra room. No problem, there are lots of good boutique hotels, small family hotels etc. S$40+ per night. Locate yourself near Dong Khoi (Road). In this same area lots of bars, varying from types where expats go (Underground, Saigon Saigon etc.) to girlie type bars .. have a walk around there are plenty.
Apocolypse Now (Club) is not all its cracked up to be ... but there are a few dodgy bars in the immediate vicinity.
Clubs (such as Catwalk) which are attached to hotels are worth a visit, but tend to be more expensive. Take aways nearer S$150-200 all night.
The scene moves all the time in HCMC, it is a huge place and there are many fantastic girls there. Black Jack is the current fave with those in the know.
If going to Vung Tau (worth a visit, lots of beaches, clean air, less humid than HCMC). Lots of Hotels to cater for all pockets (ORange Court, Royal, Rex, Palace are at the upper end .. max S$80 per night). Bars worth visiting .. Sweethearts (ask for Miss Me), Hot Gossip (Miss Thao), Summer Wine, Tequilia Sunrise , VFB .. buy the girls a drink (S$7 max.) and state your intent and voila. S$50 max for the night. Generally not a problem getting them into the hotel.

In spite of the bad news of closures, got good news for you guys today. Last nite, I met a Vietnamese guy at so fluent in Japanese tht he could easily be mistaken for a Jap.
Turn out to be that he's a guide for visiting Japanese hentai guys! According to him, the Japanese's fav place in Saigon is actually a hotel, karaoke which houses fishbowl gals!!! So I went and see. Unbelievable. Imagine a fishbowl concept in communist Vietnam also. About 20 -30 gals to select from in the fishbowl.
But the cost are high, about 60 -80USD an hour and about 90- 100USD overnite (inclusive of gal, room).

Why not you contact the "duonghungthang" guy like I have mentioned? Since he is the originator, why not give him the credit to show you the place?
Tonight he showed me another place where there are GROs who'll stripdance while we enjoyed our beers. Touch and caress no problem. But one caveat though, guests have to order a cart of beer, that is 24 bottles of beer at one go at about 28,000 D per bottle.

Any suggestion about nice cheap hotels in Vietnam? I don't really need a guess friendly since I go with another friend. So if I want action, my girl and I have to get another room for us any way. Well, it's because the idea here is that we come here to share information... freely. One of the main reasons is so we're not at the mercy of taxi drivers who will charge us for that same info---when they drive up prices by taking a commission for each customer that they deliver to a certain establishment, which gets added to that customer's bill. I've often been hit with DOUBLED prices that way. (You probably were charged too, but probably---hopefully---for much less than double. Though I will say that the prices you quote sound pretty far out of line in the high direction.)
Now your guy probably is wonderful, or you wouldn't be so willing to help him out by advertising his services here. That's cool. If I want to use him, I have his phone number now and it's no problem to get in touch with him.
If you still want to share the info, that's cool. I would really appreciate it if you did. If not, fair enough. As they say here, up to you.

Just as the Khao San Rd Backpacker's areas in Metro Bangkok's getting hipper with the local Thai clubbers, so too is the Pham Ngu Lao backpacker's area in Saigon. Went to book a busticket to Dalat on for the weekend, from the many tourist agencies in the area. Only USD5 all the way to Dalat.
Before I left, remembered my FL friends mentioning something about "The Heat Club" along the Pham Ngu Lao street. So went to check it out. True enough, much eyecandies as it is packed to the max!!! Also bumped into my FL friends over there. Seems like with the closure of Club 777, their interest have shifted to the club. Good news for brudders putting up at the New World Hotel as this club is just about 5 min walk away. And many many gal friendly hotels in the vicinity. Very convenient indeed!!! Now the bad news, heard that the going rate is USD50 and USD80 overnite. OUCH!!!
Personally I don't quite like Apocalypse Now as it is a bit like Orchard Tower Singapore, probably 100% FLs gal only. In places like Club 777 and Club Heat, it is a mix, with regular clubbing gals and also FL gals.
As for MeeRung/Shark/Rainforest and Liquid disco, they are still open but quite dead actually.

Well, apologies first and foremost. Today no great stuff to share. Blame it on the weather and Lonely Planet.
You see, I stole time off work today to sneak to the Saigon Water World, all ready with my waterproof camera to snap some bikini Vietnamese babes. But when I reached there at 4pm, they told me that the place would be closed at 5pm. I showed them the Lonely Planet in which it is written, Mon - Sat open from 11am to 7pm, Sunday 8am to 8pm. Will somebody update Lonely Planet of the times please!!!
Spent USD4 to get all the way there, for nothing. Luckily there's a shuttle bus back, for only 5000 D which would drop us at Ben Thanh Market. Somebody please explain why is Ben Thanh market closed so early, at 6pm? When I got there at 5pm, they are about to pack up. Found a vietnamese springroll stall with 3 cute gals, and sat behind the glass counter. Wow, a good downblouse of all 3 gals for a good 15mins as they were clearing up their stall. According to vnexpress.net in vietnamese edition, many bars (Xinh Xin, Paradise, Dep, and Nhat Nguyet) in Hochiminh City on Thai Van Lung, Le Thanh Ton, Thi Sach, and Hai Ba Trung streets in District 1 have been closed or will be closing due to decline in number of customers because of SARS. So if you guy(s) are planning to travel to Hochiminh City in Vietnam and look for some of the bar(s) mentioned here by forum member(s). They could be closed. Good luck and have fun guy(s). Yes I've been fairly active recently but have been so caught up with work and play that no time to report here. It's mostly been the same kinds of things we all know about, so nothing very exciting to report.
Moonshine is closed already, and a lot of these bars are still open but empty night after night, so it does not surprise me. A girl from Moonshine I ran into said that the police had closed it due to some kind of fight taking place there, and that she didn't think it'd reopen. Then again, someone else had told me the same thing about Long Phi bar a few weeks back and that's up and running again.
I made a mission recently of checking out every single one of the hostess bars in the HBT/Thai Van Lung/Thi Sach area, different one every night. Winner hands down for sheer selection and overall beauty has to be..... heh, I think I'll allow you to guess. ;-) The clue is that it's on HBT.
777 is currently closed, probably will reopen soonish... Heat on Pham Ngu Lao seems to be the current hotspot (haven't been to Liquid lately, but heard it was not hopping)...Saigon Super Bowl was a ghost town at 11:30pm Saturday night. Apocalypse is getting hassled by police big time this past week -- last night they even stopped them from allowing dancing. Next week, I guess it will be no drinking. And then..... no one will be allowed to speak inside the club.
Wait so WHY is it nobody is allowed to dance inside the disco? Is it the usual reason, to stop drugs? Here's a crazy idea: what about catching the people doing drugs without stopping the people who just want to drink and dance? It invovles something that perhaps one day may be introduced into this country: police work.
Ah yes the pole dancing.... nearly forgot. No that was a pretty misleading bit of info by Hentaitic actually. They dance fully dressed. This hidden secret place he's talking about is the very well known Club One. So "at Thi Sach" also turned out to be pretty inaccurate. It's discoveries like these that make me feel not so bad about his withholding the info on the fishbowl place from us. I suspect he's talking about Lisa Hotel though.

Well, an important update:
The FL friends told me yesterday that the Heat Disco (Phan Ngu Lau) management has disallowed FLs into the disco. And so, my FL friends has moved to Liquid at Hai Ba Throng. Worth mentioning is the number of cute waitresses in tight spaceage uniforms. And with Club 777 still close, Apocalypse Now disallowing dancing (yes, dancing disallowed in a disco!!!) naturally even the normal clubbing gals have moved to Liquid. So the place has suddenly picked up its pulse!
Memorable too is the motorcycle trip made to Liquid Disco as I was ferried there on a motorcycle sandwiched between 2 gals. Now got me thinking of trying a 3 some. HE He He !!! Upon reaching there, one of the FL was quickly snapped up by a horny Vietnamese there. She is about a 7 on looks.
After so many mentions of my FL friends, now let me share where they usually hang out if they are without customers. From Apolcalypse Now, walk along Thi Sach Road heading towards the Cong Truong Me Linh Roadabout. At the corner of Thi Sach and Hai Ba Thung is a makeshift coffee stall with just the miniature chair and tables belonging to a middle aged lady. Yes, all of them will usually be there, especially after 12midnite, after all the discos have closed. Going rate among them are 50USD to 100USD overnite dependant upon their looks. There is one with killer looks (about an 8), slim but with huge mammaries but beware, she is a junkie, with many needle marks on her arm. She charges around USD70 and has a lover who works as a motorcycle taxi.
So guys, be careful when you are with FLs.

Sorry never knew that pole dancing refers to only the topless ones. Guess this place's "pole dancing" is the tame version then. Then again, this place's Main Selling Point are the cute hostesses who will try to befriend you and maybe get a drink or more off from you. And the whole place is pretty much aimed at the Japanese businessman.

Sounds like Liquid may be worth a look. There were a few cuties I'd seen in AN in past weeks who are nowhere to be found anymore there. Maybe that's where they're hiding.

Seen for myself what my FL frens have mentioned. Heat Disco has banned all the FL gals that they are aware of. So what do the FL gals do? They hang around outside the disco. So guys, now it's ever more easy to spot them now. HE HE HE!!!
Inside the disco is so packed, there's hardly any standing room. Filled to the brim with both male and female clubbers. Many of whom are Club 777 regulars that have switched to Heat Disco because Club 777 is still closed.
But one thing I dun like about Heat Disco is how the bouncers usher you to move on. I knw that they are trying to smooth out the human traffic inside the packed disco but putting their hands on me, and sometimes 'pushing' me on, I dun like at all!!! Wish I could communicate this into Vietnamese to them. If they really still want to do that, they ought to hire goodlooking female bouncers instead!!!
Hey, hey, hey, finally got to the Saigon Water Park. I only saw one bikini babe but nvm, all the "wet t-shirts" made-up for it.
You see, many of the gals came with light coloured blouse with also light coloured bras underneath, and when they are wet, you could actually see their darker, protruding nipples. Some of the younger gals are even naive enough to come with their training bras, which are thin and when wet, you could literally see thru them. But still it's not the best yet. One came braless, yet wore a light colored top! That was the best!!!

The crazy thing is that they allow cameras into the waterpark. Even crazier is that they have a Sony booth setup to rent-out videocams for use in the waterpark. Their favourite strategic position is at the "mattress slide" where one slide downwards headfirst on one's stomach . Whoa so many wet downblouse, it's crazy!
I brought my underwater camera and my digital camera but did not take any pictures. I was intimidated by the daring Vietnamese "videographers" perhaps.

1.SWP charter-bus (5000 VND/one way) from Ben Thanh Market busstop to SWP leaves everyhour from 0800 - 1500hrs. No bus at 1200.
2.SWP to BT market leaves everyhour also from 1100 to 1800hrs.
3. SWP is only closed on Tuesday.
One tip: Go in the morning as most of the crowd leaves after 2pm.
Any report on the 30th floor disco/bar of the new HCM Sheraton and the atmosphere of the hotel (guest friendly ?)

My earlier conclusion that Heat Disco has barred all FL was only a half truth. Actually, the barring only applies on Friday and Saturday nites when the place is filled to the max with clubber. It makes sense that Heat is doing so because the FLs will only spend the minimum inside the disco compared to the freespending Saigon youths. Therefore, on these nites the FLs have no choice but to hang outside the disco.
Today it's business as usual inside the disco. They, the FLs can usually be found hanging ard the bar, looking displaced even bored. There are 2 bars in opposite ends of the disco. Common sense will tell you they will usually be at the bar further away from the dance floor and the blarring music. Rarely will they have alcohol, mostly orange juice or fruit juice. Cos they have to WORK!
Earlier I manage to sneak into the Vietnam Fashion Week show at the Opera house between Continental Hotel and Caravelle Hotel. Apparently the guests are by invitation only. Whoa! True blue Vietnamese runway models, about 20 of them!!! Not only do they look good, they "sashay" so very suggestively down the runway too. Took many pictures and short video clips. Anyone interested to view them? If there are enough interest I will upload them.

Totally man. Was there on Monday night as well, sitting exactly at that bar & watched at least 7 of them trying to stir up some interest.

Anyone with or without Vietnamese Language skills you could try at the famous 131 Cafe Nhactre Bar at 131, Nguyen Hue , Dist 1. There are more than 100 waitress and hostess in this bar alone. I was brought to this place by a 'resting' Corona beer promoter I met at Club 777, before it was closed. This place according to her, is very popular among the Vietnamese, as a pickup place for the waitress/hostess. If not what for the more than 100 of them.
This place if I am not wrong, is affliatted to the infamous No.1 Cafe Nhactre Bar at Ly Tu Throng.
Less popular but also lotsa gals is the 119 Bar located just a few shops beside the 131.
The biggest party tonite must be the 12th anniversary of Apocalypse Now(AN)
It's still rocking on as I type and it's already 1.15am. Still, there are people arriving!

Where are the files for the Models Club Liquid is empty, Club 777 had a lot of girls but now it is closed. Club heat is cool but not that many girls, and AN has a lot of girls but, most are 4 and 5's. Not that many in the 8,9,10. I stuck with the bars like NO. 1, lots of good looking girls in the 8,9,and 10's. There is a girl there by the name of Hang. What a cutie. And Hien, wow. Nice girls. The dancers are sweet too, man o man.
I went to Windows of the World and it was full of bums (guys) and maybe 4 girls there and out of those 4 girls I took 2 of them there. Last year when I was there you could find a massage parlor (you know what I mean) anywhere and now I can't find one to save my life. It seems that it cost almost 65 bucks for a girl of quality 8 in a club like 777. I would go to a beer one place and have 3 girls come in and tell them to go to my hotel on different days. They are a lot cheaper and a lot better looking, that for me is the best bet because when you go to a club, the girl you like is already with some dude.
Any girl you want anywhere you can get, you can walk down the street, in a store, where ever you can get her, but remember there is always a price. It all depends on you and your wallet. Somehow the ones I want always want a relationship. and that get expensive. Learn from my mistake!

Heat definitely has the prettier girls, but also not as easy to score, as the scene is very mixed. by far not every girl there is a working girl!

Two girls can be had in VN.
I got lucky my first time out. This was a year back so the geography may be off.
I was staying in the Renaissance (I think district 3), a total expat zone. Went to a little bar not too far on one of the side streets. It had a red light outside, so you know what was going on inside.
All it was was a bar with girls. Started chatting up one of the gals and bought her drinks. Negotiated to go to a hotel owned by the owner of the bar. She wanted to bring a friend for 'safety and fun'
I told her I wasn't going to double the amount we agreed to, they discussed it and decided they would split the money and both go (about US$30 each).
We hopped into a cab, rode for about 15 minutes, got to the hotel, paid the room fee for 2 hours ($15) and did the deed with both of them.
Next day the came to my hotel and I took them to lunch at a riverside cafe and they showed me the city.

OK well the update for these days.....
the famous disco 777 is now absolutely No More. The original report about it here was that it got shut down and would reopen in a few weeks. Well unless their new look is going to be the Gutted look, it's history. I looked in the door and the place has been torn to shreds inside.
The hot discos these days seem to be Heat and Liquid, and Apocalypse is same as it's always been.
All the major hostess bars are still operating, no worries there. Paradise was said to have closed. Not true (unless it was just a few days). I was there. It's unchanged.
Long Phi bar on Pham Ngu Lao shut down again this weekend, in order to relocate a ways down PNL next month.
The police crackdown situation hasn't been very noticeable lately.

I'll be going to HMC next week for the first time, and going from Hanoi. I only have a couple of days and no time for any thorough research. What are the best two or three places to go and how do the prices compare with Hanoi? Thanks for any help.
based on what i'm hearing from various ex-pats and most recent travelers the disco scene has suffered from recent crackdowns in hcmc. according to a recent post here (thanks ratafreddie) heat and an are happening as usual but a lot of disco "hot spots" have closed down like blue, 777, speed, and some others. i don't like the disco scene in vn particularily, but if you dig new century in hanoi you'll probably like heat in pham ngu lao. lots of stunning babes who may or may not be available.
some other direct hit and miss venues (but more obvious hits) are the rather expensive hotel club joints like saigon-saigon (caravelle) with its boring filipino band and catwalk (new world) with plenty of expensive eye candy. i am forever amused by the typical line, "i go with you honey one hundred dollah." it's pathetic when it comes out of the mouth of burnt out older pros who have been hanging out in the same place for 7-8 yrs.
over the decade, i've found the aforementioned scenes only fair to poor in hcmc, so i usually just stumble around the infamous hai bai trung str areas and make calls on my favorite bia/karaoke oms and a few formal dance clubs. the quality can be found but the price is usually not cheap - at least not on a night in and night out basis.
for me, i'll more than likely mostly stick to a few rather obscure venues where some barbershops, relax cafes and private hotels have the goods for a much more reasonable sum of vnd. perfect st in the late afternoon or early evening so i'm more ready the next day to get out of bed early and see as much as possible in vn, not just the same old nightlife (heck, meeting regular girls in the daytime is great!). most of the bia om girls i've had seem to like lt but they also tend not to be available to take out until quite late.
i can't wait for my next one month trip later this year. the only question i'll have for myself is, how long on the ground in vn and how long in wild wooly, delicious cambodia.

If you are into older women they are going to love you to death! Great thing about HCMC is that it is such an open, friendly and alive city. Can't go wrong walking around anywhere in District 1, best way to discover and try places is to just walk, there are too many to mention and things change weekly. Pay no attention to the guys on bikes and especially ciclos.
Anyone have any experience with marriage in Vietnam? Thinking about it, but not taking her out of VN. Sounds strange, but after dozens of trips, sleeping with multiple extremely beautiful 18-20yo girls gets old after a while :) Vietnam truly is paradise.

Yes you can take pictures and videos. I've taken pictures and videos of girls but they were my girlfriends (wink wink). I never had to pay to video them. The trick is first take picture of them with clothes on and with you. They won't think that all you want is sex pictures. I've never had a girl say no so good luck. So here I'm in VN with the decision to regularly post reports about the trip, that has already started in the best way for me, unlike my last visit to Argentina that I left undocumented despite the many interesting things that happened there, the only excuse I have is that I was a little bit emotionally displaced.
Day 1
Arrived in Ho Chi City and got my visa (us$ 25) there. I think this can save you at least us$ 35 compared to a visa issued by a consulate abroad. I had some 'approval' letter that the travel agency prepared for me. Checked in at the Empress Hotel in Dist. 1, across the street from the big Christian church, again it was booked for the first night by the travel agency but I negotiated a better rate (us$ 25) for the following days. The hotel proved to be quite girl friendly as they allow late night guests to stay by charging you an additional room for $12. They ask you to have your guest goto to the additional room in case the police asks, but I think thst has never happened. The hotel is nice super-clean and friendly but the rooms are small and noisy if facing the street. Well now for some action let's talk about apocalypse now.
Boy whoever said that place is not so good is seriously wrong. I was there two days and it rocks. No cover charge and it was packed by both partygoers and working girls. You may like it or not as a club but the bottom line is that there are tens of girls to choose from, most of them very hot with a lot of 8's and 9's. Just smile and talk to them as they won't approach you openly. Spoke to some and they didn't seemed to be in a bargaining mood, insisting on us$ 50 for 1 hour. I didn't wanted to negotiate too much neither so spoke to another that was ok to stay three hours for the same money. Not a model but she had a firm body and an happy face that made me smile too. She spoke anough english and whole thing was very GFE (boy I don't use that acronym usually but it totally matches the situation here). She rode me on her motorbike to the hotel and we had a very good time. She loved to be eaten and I did a good part of my repertoire to total satisfaction on both (I think) parts. After that she wanted to leave erliear than agreed, coming out with the usual excuse and I left her do so, I was still tired and wanted to sleep, didn't really care for more company. She would have stayed had I insisted but, hey this is a free world and there were absolutely no bad vibes around so I did't felt cheated at all. Saw her the following day again at AN, made clear to her that i wasn't to repeat so we just hugged and a spoke a bit.
Day 2
I went to the beach with my friends (all Viets, local or expats) and after a great seafood lunch we took a bath and some tanning. Boy the sun is strong there, be prepared! Half-afternoon we went to massage parlor that is attached to the Myle Hotel. The place is very clean and spacious. Got a nice girl, short hair, she steambathed and massaged me well. She did also all the rest and was very good at sucking, didn't let a single drop to be lost. before that I ate and boned her to release on the massage bed but I wasn't totally relaxed as it is not the place to go very long on these things, due to the glass door and the fact she undressed just her pants. She asked dhong 700,000 but I gave her 250,000 and I think it was right. After going back to the city (can take almost two hours) I slept some more and got ready for action again at AN. Boy the starts were aligned or something, in short I met an hot petite that for a good start pinched my butts on the dancefloors. She was with her girlfriends but we started dancing together and didn't stop until they closed about 2 am. I was about to screwup the whole thing or at least offend her by talking money but she's not an hooker and just go for fun. Great english, strong small body and high energy. We slept together after running out of batteries just to start again in the early morning. Like the ad goes, dinner for two $4. sex in the morning, priceless. Won't forget this one.

I agree with Stoly about Apocalypse Now in Saigon. The place rocks, and it's not only crammed with professionals, but with party girls as well. I was there last week and had a great time, with several offers of later entertainment. The place is much larger than its counterpart in Hanoi and much more upscale.
Going to Vietnam late August. Don't want to bring girls back to my place since a lot of my coworkers will be staying at the same hotel on the same floor.
Any massage parlor recommendations? Looking for parlors that have private rooms with a nice rub down and a good finish (more than a HJ).

Last update on Ho Chi Min City, as I'm in Bangkok now. I just want to add few facts about how to get the best out of this great city.
Forget what I said about the Empress Hotel, that place is definitely not girl friendly. When I realized they were going to do that ridiculous 'additional room' comedy all the time with my girl(always the same girl I mean) I spoke to the manager and asked to stop bothering us. In a typical Asian fashion he said ok first just to raise the issue again a little bit later. I checked out and moved to Xuan Loc, right behind the New World. Also a three stars hotel, they only charge vnd 300,000 a night for a large, neat room. You won't pay anything bringing a girl with you but they will anyway pretend she is staying in a separate room.
The last two bits of this report. On my last day my girl was gone so I had to resort to mongering again. Went to the dark-glass bar on the corner behind the building that I think is the opera house downtown. Drinks for guy and girl are 20,000 and 50,000 respectively. You have to buy two drinks for the girl, also they ask usd 5o be paid before you leave !!! I did not wanted to pay in advance (and proved right, read on) but gave them $18 anyway and went to my hotel. Once in the room, the reception guy rings me to remind that the 'safety room' in case police checks is the one in front of the mine and is already opened. For some reason that tripped the girl and she wanted to leave, saying she's scared and want to go somewhere else. Of course I had enough of that bullshit and let her go. Then I walked back in the bar and faced a guy and a woman there (that spoke no english) asking my money back. It took a while but reluctantely they refunded me $10, well another case of minimized loss! In summary I'd say avoid the place.
Last thing, at AN was quite a slow night, the only stunning beauty was taken already and other not-so-gorgeous chicks demanded ridiculous amounts of money. At the last minute I hooked with this girl that I think is a resident celebrity, tall and slender, short reddish hair, you can't miss her if you go there, she will ass-dance with anyone and has this total slutty look. But she was fun to talk with (fukk-yuu and yuu maam-too) and energetic in sex. Fast and furious fuck, no real negotiation as she was happy with whatever (wans't much) I gave her, without even counting the money.

After using WSG for field research throughout Asia for some time, thought I would provide an update following a recent one week trip to HCM.
Found the kissy bars on Hai Bai Trong Street to be extremely hit or miss – mostly miss. There are few diamonds to be found here, mostly road girls with a lot of mileage on them. Did find one diamond however in Cai Phuong bar between Hai Bai Trong and Dong Khoi Street near the Grand Hotel. Had a great body, slender and hot. First night took her to a ST hotel nearby - $50. The next day she came to my hotel in the late afternoon for a longer session – again $50. The second day she agreed to anal saying it was her first time, but was too tight! IMO, try the kissy bars, but don’t spend much time there and be careful buying girls drinks as they go fast and furious.
Recent reports on AN are on target, this place does rock, but found the activity to be thin some nights during my trip. Timing is everything. One night I met up with two girls at Saigon Saigon bar at top of Caravelle – well worth the visit when you go. We went to AN and spent the rest of the night drinking, dancing and having a good time. They said they weren’t working girls and couldn’t get the cuter one home with me so perhaps. They were very familiar with the regulars at AN and introduced me to someone I met the following afternoon in my hotel.
I went to Catwalk at the New World and found a treasure trove. Definitely the finest eye candy in HCM and more if you can afford it. A must see for everyone even if you don’t stay. US$9 per hour for any girl to sit with you. Drinks are reasonable – around US$2 to $4 each. They have KTV rooms to get a bit more comfortable but rooms are quickly booked. Girls won’t go out for less than $100. Problem in Vietnam to take them back to your hotel at night unless you rent them a room too. New World has cheap rooms just for this purpose if you are staying there so may make sense to some. You could also go to short time hotel, but personally if I am spending $100 bucks I want to have breakfast in the morning if you know what I mean. Did have one fox agree to come to my hotel the following day in the early evening and we were able to work things out.

Not to be nosey... but the Riverside is owned by the local Peoples Committee of the Communist Party. It's not guest friendly unless you have inside connections I would not be aware of. Why do so-called smart WSG travelers to VN continue to use these pathetic, unfriendly govt owned or joint venture jokes? Especially since there are many (very nice) private mini hotels including some larger 2-star in the $20 range. Is it ignorance of what's actually available on the ground or ingnorance or govt vs private ownership? I've traveled widely across VN for over a decade and always stay at privately owned hotels which are totally guest friendly or have a very reasonable policy. Finally, I do not need the mafia touts, cyclo dregs or hondo om drunks. No, I do not trust them in general. Knowledge is power and especially in the Socialist Republic of VN.

You are certainly right in your comment and I know I am paying way too much even though it sounds cheap. But this is why this forum exists : to provide information on where to find and what to pay. And this is why I posted a request for this type of information.
Request to which I would have immediatly answered would this have been posted and requested for Japan, Shanghai or Korea where I have most of my connections and could lead anyone to better and cheaper fun.

And further to your comments, you should also take into account that some of us are travelling on business expenses. Understand that sometimes you cannot get off the road to obviously.
For the rest you are right once again. And I am eager to learn. Especially knowing that I am going to visit Vietnam regularly as from now.
All you advices and posts are warmly welcome.

I'm travelling most of the times for business, and therefore I use to stay with the Marriott's hotels as we have a corporate rate and it's a company policy. But of course, whatever we do in the night is on our own expenses and we care for.
In the other hand, I believe that we are all professional people in this forum, or at least the majority of us, and not politicians. So commies or not commies, it doesn't matter much as long as our operations in Asia can bring revenue and profit to company or our own business.
I appreciate much comments from everyone but not insult.
But it would be another story when we travel for our own pleasure. And for pleasure only, I don't think that I would apreciate much going to HCM city. Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia are still my favorite places.
This forum is rather weak (unfortunately!) when it comes to consistent, reliable info on VN - IMO. The same could be said about Cambodia as well to name yet another heap of mostly mindless banter. I suppose on such a large site some useful, up to date info can be found on a few countries from time to time. In that regard, it seems much of the info on China here at wsgforum.com is relatively good (and I'm sure at a few others I rarely click on). The old site under "Atta" was full of FAR more thorough, credible, well written travel reports all across the planetary spectrum. This has nothing to do with "Jackson," just the general downward drift in quality for whatever reason, made up of too much flaming, jokesters, juveniles, amateurs, etc. Again, I don't mean to point fingers at anyone or hurl any unintended insults. I'm simply trying to present facts based on my personal observations after a decade of travel around VN and nearly a decade checking out this growing more silly by the day site. How frequently do you travel to Vietnam? Many times. Do you know how dangerous it is to ride motobike in Vietnam? Unless one has been to Vietnam many times and stay there for long period of time, renting motorbike and venturing after 11PM where you don't know your ways around are not recommended.

Yes I agree with you. Most of my postings are meant for expats who have lived in Vietam for an extended time and are already familiar with the lawlessness of Vietnam roads. I go and stay in vietnam fequently, my wife is vietnamese and my children were born there. I have traveled in a motobike all over Vietnam and have yet ran into any proplems (knock on wood). Actually there was a time when somebody ripped out the IC on the motobike while I was inside the market. Other than that I've been lucky. I do excercise caution where ever I go and when ever I go.

I think you mean 70000 to mamasan - right? I've paid 60000-100000 to mamasan at cafe bars (aka: cafe om, cafe den, cafe tam) in HCMC. I've paid as low as 30000 to mamasan at numerous upcountry cafe bars and then a tip to the girl of 50000-80000 depending on what was provided and the quality of the service. I've never taken one for outside service but 500000 ($33) seems a bit steep since the average factory girl in HCMC makes around $50 mo.

I merely called them "corrupt" which EVERYONE in VN knows they are - even though they must whisper it. The criminal street mafia is in league with lots of powerful Peoples Committees all over which is the biggest problem the country has. I have been operating in and out of VN since the early 90's and I'm very well connected at all levels of the society. It's just when I see the abuses I make choices that I think can help the people who need the assistance - like staying in private owned "friendly" hotels instead of overpriced so-called luxury govt/joint venture crap. My hotel in HCMC is owned by a family with the elder patriarch a long time VC supporter from the war. After the American War the "liberators" from Ha Noi sabotaged his southern business interests and it took him decades to recover. Finally, he showed the dumb ass Ha Noians that he was more capable in private biz than their state run enterprises but he had to pay them big bribes, big taxes, etc. Finally, they allowed him to build, operate, and expand various factories and hotels. It's all privately held, very efficient and very profitable. He's a very rich as a result of his connections and tenacity - but he quietly despises the commies as much as me. In the back of his mind he knows they could sieze it all at any moment and because of the lack of rule of law he would have no recourse.
I haven't been to Vietnam in almost 18 months, and would never considering returning but for a friend's wedding this December. I was really dismayed by the difficulty and expense of persuing this hobby in Vietnam - and Saigon was worse than Hanoi! I love Vietnamese girls, and have had good luck getting them in Cambodia, but found Vietnam very difficult. I remember being charged 400,000 dong and even then the girl acted disappointed, not to mention they were much less young and good looking than the Viets in Cambodia.
But since I'll be in Saigon anyway in December - any advice on what is an appropriate price, and what are good venues at which to pick up girls?

I hope you didn't take my address to you as being critical. I see where you are comming from. I myself have gotten very aggravated about the corruption. I have personally experieced it but so as everybody else. Sounds like you operate in vietnam somewhat similiar as I do. Odds are we probably have already met or at least seen each other. I have not been back in about a year now so things may have gotten more expensive. I hope not. In my oppinion the bar girls give lousy service. I have gotten the best results via arrangements and just befriending some girl and playing my cards right, usually but not always they put out. I just want remind everyone that its not neccessary to spend a lot to get what you want. When I first came to Vietnam I was spending way too much, then a local friend and a chinese businessman set me straight. Gotta go now. I look forward to returning. I'm not offended by anything you said - only trying to keep up with the best, well informed, current info on all parts of VN. Anything I said was just trying to get clarification on some small point. As an experienced VN expat you have valuable knowledge and with my similar experience over the past 12 years, here's a tip of the hat to the brotherhood. As I've made clear before, the info on this WSG is overall rather weak on VN and there are IMO a few (but unfortunately very few) better sources around. If you or others can read VNese, I recommend vnexpress.net which has good breaking news on crackdowns and some nighlife venue coverage besides the regular news. The newsletter at erotictravel.com over the years has revealed to me a lot of the secrets of VN P4P as the editor lives in SEA and is a regular visitor there with several expert western and VNese correspondents on the ground reporting. There are a couple of other msg boards but none specializing directly in VN. Elephantguide.com is sometimes worth a look - maybe others know of some additional decent ones I missed. I'll be in VN for a couple of months early next year so maybe we'll hoist a few bia hoi somewhere in HCMC if you're in town. All the best!

A brief report based on several trips to Saigon. First, you cannot go wrong with U2 bar on Mac Thi Buoi street. First time I had a twosome upstairs with a couple of lovelies. Second time, last week, was with three of same lovlies. Yes, it's upstairs, don't bother with the mini hotel if you want short time (just so you know, upstairs is an attic!). Asking price was 500K dong per girl, paid 1M dong for three, plus one round of lady drinks. An orgy for less than 100 US, not bad!!! Don't let them try to charge for the upstairs 'accomodation'. BTW, although short time, the girls would have stayed as long as I could. As it happened, I could only do it twice (on both occasions). All the bia om (beer hug) bars in the area have gamers...I've found Saigon to be one of the easier places to get laid in Asia... Walk down nearly any street in District 1 and hookers will come out of the woodwork...Other areas to find beautiful young things are in front of the Renaissance and Caravelle hotels.
