auckland, new zealand faq.

general.

new zealand, the home of the america’s cup and the lord of the rings is in the southwest pacific, three hours from sydney, australia and about 11 hours from los angeles. it is an english speaking country with a population of about 3.8 million and auckland, the largest city, has a population of around one million. it is basically an agricultural country but has growing export in many other fields. the fastest police chase boats used in the straits of malacca, are built in new zealand. it is basically a safe country and muggings are not common, but at night in some of the seedier areas, you need to be careful if you are on your own.

new zealand, which has about the same land area of the united kingdom (gb), boasts one of the greatest variety of scenery in such a small place than anywhere on the planet. while most of the major hotels seem to offer european type cooking, which is different from american, there are restaurants from just about every corner of the world, so you can eat whatever type of food takes your fancy.

our seasons are reversed form the northern hemisphere so we have summer at christmas, which means barbecues and beach parties. the climate is temperate, neither too hot nor cold, with a summer average of 20c and winter of 12c with extremes from this. it has not been known to snow in auckland in winter and the hottest summer days is about 35c and the coldest winter day about 4c. it rains all year round but the summer is the driest. new zealand, like the rest of the british commonwealth and japan drive on the left of the road so you may have some trouble adjusting to driving on the other side of the road if you want to drive here. auckland may look a smaller city than many others in the world, but when you take it on land area, the greater auckland area is the second largest in the world at 55,000 hectares after los angeles.

auckland is not the sex capital of the world and it is not the cheapest. it is cheaper than australia and the locals are far friendlier. however, there is virtually no other country that can offer such a range of scenery and activities in such a small area at such a reasonable price. you won’t have trouble with the language, customs, food, crime, travel or street hawkers. a great place for a holiday and one where you can get laid at a reasonable price every night at all of the main tourist areas. for tourism information visit www.purenz.com

women.

we have european, maori, (the indigenous polynesian’s), other polynesians, thai, chinese, japanese and some other nationalities working in the sex industry. with the first two you will not have any communication difficulties but with some of the others, especially the thai, you may have problems in communication. the thai make up the greatest proportion of foreign sex workers in new zealand and they also make up the largest proportion of asian overstayers. the hottest i have found is japanese and maori, but you can find some good european girls. in general, i would say that one in ten give excellent service, so you will just have to try your luck. european (kiwi) are not know for their hotness. however, there are exceptions, especially in the sex industry and at the better parlours. i do not think you will find many companions to stay with you for your whole time here, except for a price, but you can get laid every night on your stay for a very reasonably amount. you could perhaps attract some young girls on a friday night in queen street, the main street in auckland central, if you were driving something exotic like a ferrari.

cost.

for americans, you will probably find sex rather cheap in new zealand. for a start off, you get about nz$2.30 for each us$1.00, so your money goes much further. sex is advertised from nz$40.00 for a half hour up to over $200.00 per hour at some of the classy escort agencies. (all prices are now quoted in new zealand dollars, less than half the us dollar) the top i have found is $2,00.00 for 12 hours with a girl at a corporate suite.

legal.

prostitution is not illegal in new zealand but soliciting is as are brothels or living off their earnings. however, “massage” parlours are all over the city and these are brothels in everything but name. you will not have any legal problems unless you happen to be in one of the seedier places that are raided by the police looking for mainly thais overstaying their permit. you won’t have any problems but you would have your night interrupted. however, most of the reputable places only “employ” girls that have permits. unlike america, you cannot get arrested for getting a working girl. the police force does not carry firearms. the legal age of consent here is 16 years but you won’t find many girls under the age of 18. however the age for going into licensed premises is 18 years. statutory [CodeWord123] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord123) as it is called in america is almost unheard of here.

prices.

summer is the busiest season with the most tourists and if you come for the america’s cup contest next year, you would have to book well in advance to get above average accommodation. accommodation ranges in price from $15.00 per night for a backpacker’s place $60.00and up a night in a motel, and $150.00 and up in hotels. good hotels and motels are available all year round and there are only shortages when there is some special event on, like the america’s cup. however, i would suggest that you book in advance through your travel agent. many of the hotels are in the central city area, and motels just a bit further out. usually there is no problems bringing guests back to your hotel room and no problem at motels.

holidays.

there are 11 public holidays a year in new zealand when banks and most businesses are closed but most shopping centers and money exchange places remain open.

airlines.

most major airlines fly into new zealand. air new zealand, qantas, british, thai air, japanese air, singapore, american and others. the airport is located less than an hour south of the city, depending on the traffic.

arriving in new zealand.

you will not be able to bring any pets with you, as these will have to go into quarantine. the plane will probably be sprayed with insecticides before you are able to disembark to stop any insect invaders. also do not bring in any foodstuffs, especially fresh food, but some processed foods as well, as all of these are prohibited imports for biosecurity reasons. all luggage is x-rayed when you arrive, looking for food stuffs. if any is found and you haven’t declared it, there is an instant fine imposed. there are sniffer dogs, mainly for food stuffs but they are not always used so do not bring in any illegal substances into new zealand. during the last america’s cup regatta, an american billionaire was caught trying to bring some cannabis into new zealand. his penalty was less than any kiwi would have received. the police at the airport do carry firearms and the security has been tightened following the attack on america.

getting into auckland.

there are three major ways of getting into auckland. shuttle bus, which leaves every 20 minutes and costs about $20.00. a taxi, all of which have to be registered, is probably the most convenient. you do not have to take the first taxi on the stand, but can chose anyone you want. foreign drivers drive many of the taxis, so make sure that the drive has a good grasp of english. you can also hire a car from any of the several hire firms that have offices at the airport. i would not recommend this option unless you know auckland well. most central city hotels do not have guest parking facilities and if they do, it is limited or relatively expensive.

what to bring.

nightlife is largely casual in new zealand and only a few upmarket places require formal wear. it is almost anything goes, so whatever you are comfortable wearing at home will be acceptable here. smart casual and you will have no problems at all just about anywhere. clothing will be more expensive than in america but you may find some bargains. because we have such a wide range of wonderful scenery and activities, i suggest that you bring your cameras. if you have a small camera and take it with you to the massage, you may be able to take photos of them. however, i have found that most are unwilling to have their pictures taken, especially nude or in action. you never know, you may get lucky. digital cameras do take better quality photos for posting on the internet unless you are using high quality cameras and film scanners. the most important thing to bring is your smile.

electrical.

the voltage here is 240 and 50 hz so american appliances will need a transformer. most bathrooms in hotels and motels have a dual voltage outlet for things like shavers and toothbrushes and it will also charge video/still camera and computer batteries. you may need an adapter for these as the plug is for two round or angled pins. the tv system is pal b so ntsc videos may not produce a picture here. however most of the new tvs in hotels are probably multi capable and they may work. modem connections are available at most of the better hotels, as is a fax system. internet cafes are all over the place but most do not allow a modem connection, as you have to use their computers. i have asked several and they do not allow you to connect your computer to their network, probably because they use “jetstream”, a very high speed connection. but it doesn’t harm to ask. there is a 24 hour internet café a few minutes walk from downtown auckland in albert st, opposite the district court. a few pay phones in some petrol stations have a modem connection. if you have a laptop and want modem connect, you will need a rj45 plug to connect.

phones.

the new zealand dialing code is 64 and we have a full idd telephone system. calls made from you hotel or motel will be charged a surcharge but you can buy from many shops, phone cards for call within new zealand. they are available in denominations of $5.00 and upwards. local calls cost 50c but calls outside the local calling are higher. we have two major cell/mobile phone networks, both analog and digital including gsm so ask you service provider if your phone can work here under international roaming. calls made from your phone here will be more expensive than at home, but it can keep you in touch. or you can buy prepay cell/mobile phone here for about $150.00 to do all you calling within new zealand. the phone will be anonymous and you could give it as a gift to someone just before you leave. you can also hire a gsm cell/mobile phone at the airport, right opposite the exit from customs, from $80.00 per month and all calls cost $1.00 per minute.

visa.

there are about 50 countries that do not require a visitors visa if you are staying for three months or less. usa is one of them. to check out the others, visit www.immigration.govt.nz where you can get all the details. however, you will need an outward ticket and enough money to support yourself while you are here, currently about $1,000.00 a month. you will need medical insurance because as a foreign national, you will not be covered by the publicly funded health system. medical costs are far lower than those in the usa.

payment.

all major credit cards are accepted in new zealand. eftpos may be available from your bank in new zealand for withdrawals in new zealand dollars. eftpos machines usually only give $20.00 bills. the denominations of notes are $5.00, $10.00, $20.00, $50.00 and $100.00 only. they are of different sizes and colours (colors) so you cannot get them mixed up. coins are 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, $1.00 and $2.00. travel cheques (checks) are also accepted here but many shops are not able accept them and if they do, you will probably get a poorer exchange rate. asians run almost all the souvenir and gift shops in auckland.

tipping.

tipping is not a usual custom in new zealand and it is strongly discouraged. it is usually american visitors that are the big tipper and make it harder for the locals. everything is included in the prices you are charged. i would suggest you tip only if you get exceptional service. the minimum pay rate is much higher here than in the usa, so tipping is not as necessary.

transportation.

the bus system is complex and confusing but if you can get around this, it is relatively cheap and safe. an all day pass on the major bus company, stagecoach, which does not cover all of auckland, costs $8.00 per day. it also includes the cross harbour ferries. taxis are everywhere and relatively cheap. however, the caution above applies as many of the drivers are from overseas and do not have a good grasp of english or a good knowledge of auckland. i would recommend co-op taxis, alert and corporate and look out for a native kiwi for a driver or who speaks english as well as you can. you can also hire a car, but if you do this, you will miss out on most of the wonderful scenery.

hotels.

most of the major hotels are located within the cbd, (central business district) and from these it is easy to get to all of the major attractions and nightspots. there are some serviced apartments type hotels like quay west ph (09) 309 6000, cintra lane ph 0800 246 872 and quest on nelson ph 0800 50 80 30. most of the major hotel chains are here like the hyatt ph (09) 355 1234, rydges ph 0800 755 900, novotel ph 0800 novotel (6686838), sykcity ph 0800 skycity (7592489) and flag inns ph 0800 803 524.

there is this great range of both quality and price for accommodation, which can suit just about any budget. www.purenz.com has more details of just about everything except hotels.

the nightlife.

auckland has a good range of nightlife, from bars, discos, clubs, a casino, shows and restaurants. it is unlikely that you will pick up at girl at any one of these, as working girls do not seem to hang out at these places. so they will not pester you. you may be lucky enough to meet someone who may want to spend more time with you but you will have to chance your luck. it just depends what you prefer to do but i am sure you will find some great things to do outside of the sex scene. (see more below.)

sexual adventures.

there are three main ways of getting a girl in auckland.
1. visit any of the better massage parlours in auckland.
2. buying the weekly paper “the truth” which comes out on a friday and has about 10 pages of advertisement for massage parlours and girls working from cell/mobile phone.
3. picking a girl off the streets, mainly from karanhape rd in uptown auckland.

you now have a forth choice. you can visit the white house and/or monica’s which is attached to it. it is the newest establishment in auckland and if you used one word to describe it, it would be class. it is in an american flavor, hence the names. there are paintings of almost all of the american presidents and one of monica at the entrance to monica’s. the entrance fee is $20.00 to the white house, which is a strip bar of the highest class, large with well choreographed dance routines. you can also have lap dances from $60.00 for ten minutes to $160.00 for one hour in a private room. the only thing you cannot do in these rooms is have sex or touch their pussy. apparently they have cameras in the lap dance rooms, but on a brief inspection, i could not see any evidence of them. there are two bars and the one upstairs offer the best drinks in the world like $400.00 bottles of champagne. everything is done in the best taste and the décor is excellent. it is the best strip club in new zealand. there are up to thirty girls there on busy nights. the girls here are not available for sex but if you are feeling horny, just use the internal lift to visit monica’s. a one hour session with a girl is $160.00 or if you prefer, they will deliver one to your hotel on the cbd of $220.00 for the hour. if you have any complaints with the girls or anything else, contact the owner, brian le gros on 027 443 0233. if you want the executive treatment, for $2,000.00 for 12 hours you can have the use of an corporate flat that is fully self contained, fully stocked bar and fridge, the use of a limo and of course the company of a girl of your choice. a top class service.

you will not find a better establishment anywhere in new zealand and it probably rivals the best anywhere in the world.

the white house is open six days a weeks, monday to saturday from 8.00pm until 6.00am. the website, www.thewhitehouse.co.nz is only just up and running but will eventually be expanded to include a virtual tour. it is well worth a visit and i certainly enjoyed mine.

the address is 371 queen street auckland, ph (09) 377 4548, fax (09) 377 4546.

monica’s next door is open 24 hour a day, seven days a week. it has 10 rooms, all well appointed and all the rooms are self contained. again the name for this place is class. you are under no obligation so you can go in for a visit before you decide to have any action. it also has a bar and a large well appointed lounge where you can meet the girls. phone (09) 377 4343

both are definitely worth a visit

other massage parlours.

the next best establishment is the casa group. they have three parlours, one close to the city and two just south of newmarket. they are:

cassabella 97a grafton road grafton, ph (09) 375 0011

casanova 108 manukau rd epsom ph (09) 522 5343

casablanca 574 manukau rd epsom ph (09) 623 5036

all are very good quality, similar in style to monica’s, all with bars and well appointed lounges and room. their in-house massage is $160.00 or $180.00 if you pay by credit card or strangely, eftpos. this is a transfer of cash from your account to their account so it is similar to cash but many places charge a surcharge for this facility, which i find unusual. but you can get around this by paying cash if you wish.

the penthouse 55 custom st ph (09) 379 2394

and

famous flora’s 14 pitt st ph (09) 377 1035

the same person owns both. they have 8 to 10 theme rooms, which are all well appointed and a bar is there also. in house is $155.00 or $180 if paying by any card. the escort facility is also $180.00 and no surcharge for using a card for the escort service. the penthouse has showgirls, the second best strip club right next door, but this is no where near as good as the white house.

the pelican club 101 newton rd ph (09) 358 0900.

they have ten rooms and it is all well laid out with good decor. my only criticism of this place is that the bar/lounge is too small so avoid this one at busy times. they charge $50.00 for the room and you tip the girl $100.00 in the room if you are paying by cash. for any card the price is $175.00.

femme fatale 84 wellesley st ph (09) 303 2422 www.femmefatale.co.nz

the have 8 rooms and the prices are $160.00 or $170 by card for the hour. if you visit their web site, there is a voucher that you can print off and get a $10.00 discount and a free drink.

there are at least 50 more other massage places in auckland, but the above are most of the better ones. if you want real massage, there are several “proper” massage parlours in auckland, mostly chinese. the best are:

salon 28 28 ponsonby rd (09) 361 1628. this is a “chinese” massage parlour.

very nicely set out and it also has a very small sauna and 10 rooms. the massage price for an hour is around $70.00 and you can negotiate with the girl for extras. however, you may not be able to view or choose the lady you want as she is sent down to your room when you are ready for the massage. most are asians and although they advertise as “chinese” ladies, many are thai or other nationalities. to my knowledge, none are fully trained or qualified in massage.

salon 33 33 queens rd panmure ph (09) 527 6833. this is about 12 km out of the city center.

very good quality and the same owner as salon 28. this has full service on the menu for $160.00 but here you can choose the asian lady to go with.

palmsea chinese massage 3 union st ph (09) 309 9288.

they advertise as being the largest with 18 rooms. you can get thai, chinese and swedish massage for $60.00 for the hour, full service for $160.00 with a surcharge of $10.00 for card. the facilities, which are more extensive than the above two, are not as high quality.

the truth.

this is a weekly publication, which comes out every friday. it contains at least 10 pages of advertisements for massage parlours, girls working from a home of cell/mobile number and sex shops. many of the girls advertising here are asians, the majority of which are thai. if the advertise themselves as “asian” you can bet they are thai. the thais in new zealand do not have a good name, as most seem just to want to get as much out of you for as little as possible. some have photographs in the advertisement, but not all are of the girl. some do escort and a few advertise a 24 hour service. the price ranges upwards from $40.00 for a half hour, which means until you come. you can get some great service from here, but you are really just taking potluck.

street girls.

the street girls are mostly located around the karanahape road area in uptown auckland, just up from the white house. however, i would suggest you stay away from these girls as there are lot of drug addicts and probably the highest incidences of std’s among these girls. most only do it in a car but some will take you to an apartment. their prices are from $50.00 upwards but it is just until you come. it is also where the transvestites are found. i would recommend that you stay away from these girls and all the massage parlours in karanhape rd, as they are all substandard.

the service.

the service you get depends on the girl. if will unlikely that you get bbbj but kissing and eating them will be up to the girl. greek is available but it is up to the girl and she will probably charge you extra. you can always ask the girl first. there is a low incidence of hiv in new zealand but it is here. i think you will find that the case of std’s among the working girls is lower than in the general population, particularly at the better establishments like the ones listed above. health checks are free at the hospitals and all of the girls at the good places would have regular check ups. so use you head and not your heart and practice safe sex. i am sure that if you choose girls from the major massage parlours, you will get better service. at the better establishments, you can come as many times as you want within your time limit.

what else to do in auckland.

we have the usual range of museums, galleries, and a zoo, plus two harbours and the largest collection of boats in new zealand, hence the nickname of the city of sails. harbour cruises and trips are available and you can hire motor and sail boats of many sizes. if you are adventurous, you can bungy jump off the skytower, right in the center of the city if you are an adrenaline junkie. during summer, the beaches are popular and on the west coast at piha, you can surf. wind surfers and para surfers are available for hire at mission bay. kelly tarltons underwater world is also worth a visit. a wide range of restaurants bars and cafes are here that cater for almost any taste. food will cost from $5.00 at some of the fast food chains to over $100.00 for the up market places.

more information can be found at www.purenz.com.

other places to visit.

i would recommend that you visit some of the places listed below.

waitangi and the bay of islands in the north. also visit the giant kauri trees which have the most amount of timber in them than any other tree in the world. they are magnificent.

the waikato farming area and the waitomo caves.

rotorua geothermal area and lake taupo. in the winter, we have good snow skiing just south of taupo.

wellington, the west coast of the south island, christchurch, queenstown and dunedin and fiordland are also worth a visit, most offering a great range of adventure and outdoor activities, including bungy jumping, jet boat tours, whale watching at kaikoura, and skiing in the winter.

apart from auckland, queenstown and christchurch also have casinos.

new zealand has a great range of activities and is probably one of the greatest and safest countries in the world to visit at a reasonable cost.

if you want any other information regarding visits to auckland, you can contact me at harryrose_nz@hotmail.com . i can arrange personal guided tours.
