Try using this free recovery program called "Restoration" http://www.geocities.jp/br_kato/. It claims to "Restore files which are deleted from the recycle bin by mistake. Conversely, delete files completely."...Here's my recent experience with photo recovery.

I just got back from Thailand and had a wonderful time. I have a crappy digital camera (HP 120) which uses compact flash cards. While in Thailand, I went to Chiang Mai and Bangkok and of course took many pictures of girls and touristy stuff. One day, after finishing with a girl, I pulled out the camera and started to take pics as I am wont to do. After one pic, I got the low battery warning and I changed the batteries. When I rebooted the camera, I took a bunch of pics of the girl. Later that day, I noticed that all the previous pics I had (hundreds) had disappeared. I almost cried (I had a bunch of pictures of this wonderful girl I met in Chiang Mai). I thought I lost them forever.

I did a Google search later and found out that this is a common problem and there were possible fixes. After coming back home, I searched some more and came across this website called http://www.flashfixers.com. They will recover your pics for you for a fee or sell software called ImageRecall so you can do it yourself. The best part is they have a Demo version of the software which works exactly as the full version but it recovers only the first 10 images. Additionally, this software does not work directly from the camera (i.e., won't work if your memory card is in the camera). It needs to be in a card reader. So... I first went and bought a card reader (Scan Disk 12 in 1 reader for $30). I then downloaded the demo version of ImageRecall and installed it on my Mac (PC version is also available). I put the CF card in the reader and ran the program. Very easy interface (pick what type of data you want to recover and the source). The program scanned the CF card and said it found 371 image files !! (my card when in the camera at this point was showing it had 36 images). Better yet, none of the files were corrupted. It saved the 10 files to the hard drive. I looked at the 10 pics and lo and behold! they were from Chiang Mai (which I could not see on the CF card). Assured now that the program will work, I bought the full version of the software on line ($40) for immediate download. This and installation went seamlessly and I once again ran the program. This time all 371 files were recovered and stored on the HDD and viola... I had all my pictures recovered!! The recovery process took only about 10 mins.

I am not plugging this particular software or the company (I have no monetary interest). Just recounting my experience which fortunately had a happy ending. Like a Thai massage. I am sure there are other softwares that work the same as well or better. I don't know. I am very happy with the way this one worked.

Earlier this month I posted a series of photos of a young and beautiful 21yo student, Fernanda, who I hired for a photo shoot while visiting Bogota. I also received a number of PMs from Colombia-destined mongers requesting Fernanda's contact information.

A few posts after my photos a fellow member, Alachingada, posted the attached message alerting us to a post in www.clasifica.com whose author claimed to have contracted hepatitis-B and herpes from Fernanda or one of her partners in crime (Daniela, Veronica, Paola, Nicole). I am assuming that Alachingada was well-intentioned and do not have the faintest idea whether the clasifica report is true. Nor do I have and easy way to verify its veracity. What I can report are the following facts:

1) Neither Fernanda or Daniela (Who I photographed on an earlier visit) appeared to have herpes when I photographed them. I have posted photos of both girls and though I am not a doctor all appears to be clear.

2) For peace of mind, I underwent a blood test last week. The results are back and I do not have any form of hepatitis. Neither do I appear to have herpes whose symptoms are usually visible.

This leaves me with the following dilemma. I do not know that the giirls have the diseases alleged in the clasifica post but I do not know that they don't. What I do know is that if I pass Fernanda's contact information to a fellow WSG member and they contract something I would feel in some way responsible.
