Actually, the name change only happened last year (2006). But the room in which the guy who started the whole epidemic was staying on the 9th (I think) floor has also "disappeared" in a renovation. The Chinese name of the place, by the way, is the same.

I have returned from my visit to Hong Kong. I stayed at the Marriott Renaissance Harbour View in Wan Chai. As expected it is a high class hotel at international standards. I payed 1700 HKD for a night, which translates to 170 Euro. Since I only stayed for a night I think it is fair and I have no ambition to safe 20-30 Euro on a hotel room, when I blast out the money during night life anyways;.)
The airport is considerably out of Hong Kong and it is a 30 minute drive to Wan Chai (400 HKD inclusive the fairs necessary to cross the bridges). Taxi drivers do not accept Master or Visa cards. So be prepared to have cash with you. Alternatively you can use a train from the airport to Hong Kong island.
The WanChai Red light district is pretty close to the Renaissance Hotel and can be reached within a 10 minutes walk. I found Fenwicks to be the best choice out of the different bars, Neptun etc. At around 10 pm people start to fall in there. However, it takes until 1 am to really pick up there.
I also tried the other disco clubs around WanChai, like Neptun (which is cheaper compared Fenwicks and quite ok) but either the selection of girls did not appeal to me or it was just to dark and I could not stand the music for long.
When you go to Fenwicks you will find approximately 100 girls from all parts of Asia and approximately 10 girls from Columbia (at the right wall, opposite the bar just when you come into the club). The club is a basement club with good life music. All girls are working girls. In addition you will find approximately 100 western men, looking for girls (so you are not allone). There is no cover charge but girls like to be invited for a drink. Overall the club is quite different from what I had expected after reading the messages here. In fact it is a crowded place with a sort of triangle bar in the middle and all people standing close to close around the bar and throughout the club. Personally, I think that HKD500 is the "going rate" but of course, there's probably a difference of opinion here. If I'm unhappy with the service, I'll pay HKD400 and walk out. I typically go to Hop Yee, Fuji, Champagne Court, National Court or New Lucky House and rarely venture to the more obscure or outlying places (yes, I'm a lazy bastard). If you scour the site and check the advertised prices for the above locations, it's more or less HKD450 (most of them) to as much as HKD600 (rare).
Despite all the protestations of overpaying newbies, I really haven't noticed an inflation of prices. I've only got the past year or so to base this opinion on so maybe more established veterans can provide another opinion.

Chaps, in the last week I have spoken to 20+ around Wanchai to try and fix up day time fun in short time hotels. Well given my experience in Buenos Aires, it sounds about par for the course. IN BsAs, if times are tough, they try to raise the prices to make up for lost business. They figure if they can get one @ 500 it will make up for the two they lost @150. I don't understand it but it is they way. There is one difference however, the supply and demand thing is different in HK. The number of So.Amer gals is pretty small in HK compared to their Asian counterparts, so they figure if you want a double breasted mattress thrasher that puede hablar Espanol, then you will pay for it. Frankly, I was turned off by the truly arrogant attitude, and when I asked one girl if about LT, she told me she had to be back to the club around 4 am, and could not stay the night.

I really hesitated to post anything about this girl from Neptune's II because I did feel something for her. Not sure what but something approaching genuine affection of a sort.
