I stopped by CP last week to have dinner with a couple of esteemed members of this forum. The BBS scene is still dismal. I did not see one mommy on the street in the Swan Lake area although I was told that they were around and could send girls to your hotel room and they knew of one BBS that was actually open. Although both my mates graciously offered to let me use their hotel rooms, I declined the offer.

After we saw some of the girls, we understood why. The menu was very confusing and the boys kept changing the story about what type of service and how much time was available for what price. We finally determined that HJ, BJ an FS were all on the menu for between 113 and 368 RMB. Stocks were limited and quality was low. One of the guys opted for FS at 368 RMB and was shown one girl that he did not like. That said, she was probably the best they had since we opted for the BBBJ service for 178 RMB and they brought in a couple of pork chops. Thanks for your kind words. I have decided to leave the troll alone. I gave him a chance to come clean and he refused to do so. He lives in some ego centric, fantasy world. If you met him in person, you might understand why. In the beginning, I felt sorry for him since he has had some very bad luck in his personal family life. However, at some point, he went over the deep end and started to attack anybody that challenged him in the slightest. He is best to be left alone to live out his fantasies. IMHO, he is using hookers to fill an emotional need, rather than a physical one. This emotion is only one sided so he needs the fantasy to believe it is mutual. This is a dangerous game to play but to each his own.

The flower street at the top 4 KTVs in town has reopened, albeit without uniform but all are opened in its original floors. The rumor is that the WGs will be back in uniform by end of September, just before the Canton Fair. The hotel rooms during the Canton Fair period are starting to fill up so for those of you planning to come to CP during that time should book your rooms in advance.
I saw one of the Swan Lake BBS mommy near Yalan yesterday and she is allowing only repeat customers to go to her shop. I got a call from big mommy from Hui Mei (she has disappeared for over a month) yesterday and said that she has changed her phone number and will only send girls to the hotel room for repeat customers only. BBS business continue to be dismal and I heard that some of the girls have opted to go to the KTVs instead which is good news as there are an overflow of WGs working in the KTVs, pickings are good there.
Flowers should be in full bloom soon. I hope.

OAHI'm one of the "esteemed members" with you. I say "Hats off" to you because I couldn't "Man Up" for the "ladies" at that establishment. But, the people there were very friendly and receptive (even for us white guys). I might have done FS with that one. But, I had already had 2 BBS's early and had another "friend" waiting to meet me later that looked better than what that place offered. Also, she was a little fatter than I like and she was probably about 30 (I like them younger).
I'm going there tomorrow (I'm staying at the Swan Lake) for a few days to check things out again. So, if you're thinking about going, please let me know. Happy hunting!
Was at YH last night and the place was pretty packed, got there a little later (around 8:30-9) and the quality that came in left much to be desired.
They did say that they think their flower street will start up again on Friday but only for a short duration from 6:30-7:30.

Just want to write my long overdue FR on my first trip to CP. Just been really busy since arriving home after traveling to 4 countries in a short amount of time. Damn I am sick of filling out those immigration forms aha.
Firstly a big shout out from me and the boys to BSD for booking everything for us, we didn't have to worry about anything apart from having a good time. It was definately good to meet you hopefully next time we can stay a little longer.
It was 2 weeks ago when me and a group of mates made our way from HK to CP for a night. Originally we were thinking skipping CP due to the crackdown but decided to stay and night and scope the place out. We planned to checked into our hotel and before 5:30 just in time for the FS so we can pick the hottest girls but due to other factors this wasn't an option. Plan was to catch the train from Hunghom at 4:30 but this wasn't possible due to all the tickets being sold out and forced to catch the 6:30 one. Lesson 1 learnt it would be easier and cheaper to organise private transport to CP. Funny thing we nearly missed our stop as well because no one was getting off, what followed was a mad rush to the door just as the train was about to leave.
BSD was in contact the whole time and organised vans to pick us up from the station to our hotel. From first impression of CP I definitely would not feel comfortable exploring the streets of CP at night even if there was a few of us haha, thank god we aren't walking. BSD advised that most KTV are now operating close to normal with FS as well as the saunas, kicking myself for not staying longer. So we checked in and headed straight to the KTV room to make our selection was worried that there wasn't many girls left. Saw about 150 girls only a few that stood out, I guess all the pretty ones has already been selected by the early birds. Lesson 2 learnt, I need to listen to BSD and get there early pron-to. Picked 2 3/7/10 as models was nothing special. Overall it was a good night as everyone was enjoying themselves, lost count of how many bottles we ordered but BSD was there to ensure that everything was ok. Was thinking about taking both girls for LT but one got too drunk and passed out on the couch damnit haha. Had a pretty enjoyable session with the one that came back with me the usual BBBJ and 2 shots. Most importantly she was willing to please and she had a good attitude so I gave her a little tip in the morning.
Next day we checked out and left for our next destination.

It does feel like CP of old even for a little while. Less guys = much more relaxed environment. Hotels are not that full, but restaurants are still in good business. CP feels good these days. Even the cabs are not ALL charging the 15 rmb to get anywhere. Some even charged 10 rmb from SWL to the Miraton area! A few weeks ago, that would be impossible as all the cabs were being gougers.
As for the shopping. 8 Shopping Mall was built maybe 2 years ago. It's full of jewelry shops (I have no idea who buys these overpriced gold / silver) and restaurants (which is more expensive than good). The movie theatre is nice, but quite empty and often only shows China movies which suck. I've seen like 10 movies when in CP and only one was a Hollywood movie. Date nights in CP is kinda hard to enjoy. And I think there are 3 movie theatres in CP with a 4th on the way. I think they all show the same movies. LOL.
In front of the 8 Shopping mall, there is construction on a new shopping complex. The construction is quick as hell and there seems to be a KFC, Pizza Hut, Tissot watches, Haagan Dazs Ice Cream, and Uniqlo clothing. Kinda SZ and Guangzhou level for brand names, so it's good for int'l tourism but kinda strange on the long term investment strategy for a small town like CP. There's discussion on this by AznDragon and SEAN if those would like a deeper analysis on this shopping complex, just do a search. But it does point to a desire for a more expensive mongering experience as hotels with Saunas and KTVs are vying for prime real estate and exposure. BBSs and those dirty footies will slowly get runned out by the more lucrative KTV / SN option. But that would be taking out a good part of the fun in CP.

When I reminded him of my previous visit, he quickly agreed to the 178 RMB for one hour with BBBJ.

I was in tears when we turned up across from Swan Lake and there was not one mommy to be found. We called a mommy and proceeded to take a 15 minute hike to a BBS off the beaten track. She had around 10-15 girls in there but nothing that I really wanted to do. Back to Swan Lake, another mommy called and took us on another trek to a far away BBS with around 10 girls where I managed to find a girl I wanted to do. All in all, it took us 1. 5 hours for the hunt. Far too much time, effort and walking to get laid in CP.
After dinner, the same situation. One mommy brought by 2 girls, neither of which I was keen on. Thanks to the "esteemed member", he called one of his regulars for me so I could have my night cap.
All in all, a sorry state of affairs for the CP BBS scene.

Decided to give Toni from Asia Cheong / ISO Travel a try and super glad I did. I don't speak a lick of Chinese so his "concierge" service made it super easy. I flagged down a cab and he instructed them where to go and met me in the lobby of the hotel and made sure that I had a ride home before having me check out the service. Since the most I've done are bachelor party strip clubs in the US, I wasn't even sure about protocol. Toni reassured me that it would be simple-just let him know which girls in the lineup are good and ask for the next lineup. Price quoted for each girl was all inclusive.
Don't have a frame of reference to compare against but less than 800 RMB for 2 hours and multiple times. Girl was very beautiful (face=8, body=8, nipples=10, attitude=10) and although it seemed a little scripted, she was always in a good mood and moaning. She worked very hard to get your ready for action. Anyways, this was much better than any massage (foot or other-non hanky panky) or strip club (and cheaper!) experience.

If the price for massage is around 200-300, it usually involves some form of sex. There was also an area near the park / mountain that had 3 streets leading out of it. One of them had a bunch of BBS type places. I don't know if they're still there though.

I'm feeling generous, so I'm going to give some brothers advice to living / visiting in China. I get into difficult / dangerous situations all the time, but I've been here awhile and know how to deal with Chinese and their ways. The first thing to remember is it is not personal, they all cheat each other. It's just that we are not used to it and we are taken way too easily. Secondly, it's all about the money. Chinese won't attack you physically, they just want to find out the best way to extract the most money from you. Using all the Chinese tricks they can. I use those tricks all the time in the States in my business. Americans just don't know how to deal with them. On to the advice.
#1. The most powerful sentence in your arsenal is "I have no money." Chinese say this all the time. Even though they may have 50, 000 in their back pocket. In their mind, their not lying. Sure, they have no money in their front pocket. It's not a lie. Anyhow, when you disagree on price, or are negotiating, say these words. It means you are serious and will cut out alot of the bull games they will try to play. Don't worry, they know you are lying and will continue to negotiate. It's all part of the game. When you cut to this chase, their facial expression will change because they don't expect a non-Chinese to pull this trick out of their bag. Also. It turns the table and gives you time to assess their reaction to make the next move. In Chinese. "Wo mei qian, mei banfa","Wo yi fen qian dou meiyou" etc.
#2. Never give Chinese a price. Why? Because it provides a baseline, and that's what they are looking for. Ever notice how they throw out a super high price, you disagree, they ask you how much you want to pay? Why? Because they want to split the difference and make the huge markup. The right this to do is say "Too expensive!" or "a little cheaper". Whatever. Just never give a price for them to work with. The trick they use is to throw a calculator in your face to give the number legitimacy. The reason I know this is I speak Chinese and they still throw that damn calculator in front of me. I figured out that when people psychologically see a price they get attached to it. In Chinese. "Tai Gui le!","pianyi yidian" etc.
Those who know me know I negotiate for a living. Chinese are masters of this art because it is built into the culture. Even in China there are some areas that are respected by other Chinese for elevating the skill to a new level (WenZhou, Hakka, etc.). I have more, if there is interest, even how to get out of life-threatening situations. I hope others can add to this interesting topic.

I will be visiting QingXi (hotel not chosen yet) and could use some recommendations for local action. I used to stay in HuangJiang and always took advantage of the TianTian StarWorld hotel's sauna and variety of girls but I think it will be a bit of a poke to get there. Prefer something local.
Do I need to go all the way to Changping?
As for TianTian, their sauna building was closed down when I was there in August but business was up and running as usual in the hotel. PM me if you are serious and want details. I don't want to post the intimates online. And I have a working relationship with the mamasan, don't want to burn that.

LAMonkeyI have lived in China a long time. My Chinese is not perfect but I speak enough to get by. It is obvious to locals that I did not just arrive yesterday.
That said, I often find myself in situations where, under no conditions, can I get the local price for things. Not only mongering where a "big dick" surcharge may apply, but in everyday purchases. The menatality of "you are a laowai and rich so you should pay more" is still prevalent. They do not seem to apply this to the local guy that pulls up in a brand new Porche. What never ceases to amaze me is the Chinese merchants will turn down my business and walk away from a sale, rather than let me buy the product at the local price.
I used to enjoy the bargaining process but now I am just fed up with it. I prefer to shop for everyday products in the hypermarkets and supermarkets with fixed prices where I have a better chance of getting a reasonable price (same as locals) for genuine, quality products with much less hassle.

In my opnion Goodview is the best place in Dongguan for all those who looks for quality.
AF.KTV all over Tangxia are operational. Saunas will only accept regulars known to mamasan. Two friends failed to get a room within 1 hour of me being looked after at a local prominent place. Mamasan told me they have never had such a long ban; 30 June to 8 September. In future stand alone business hotels are going to find it hard. Meanwhile, Hui Wah was over run by. Children. There was some kind of function and there were literally hundreds of 6-10 year olds excitedly being led by their teachers out of hui wah. The business knows how to do it!

Just heard from a usually reliable source that there is going to be demonstrations in Chang Ping tomorrow Sept 18. Which marks the official memorial day for Japan's war-time occupation of parts of China.
This demonstration SUPPOSEDLY will center around Huaren and The new Number 8 malls, but I have yet to get confirmation as to the whole thing.
In any case, it would be prudent for bros to be a bit more careful tomorrow, especially since Nationalistic fervour seems to be on the rise and there had been instances of violent demonstrations these past few days.

Sounds like CP and most of DG is up and running! In the last three days I had received calls from at least over 10 mummies from KTVs, Saunas, BBS in these part of China telling me that they are back in business and please drop by if i happens to be in town. I had asked them what about the up coming October holidays? Most of them, said that they are also open during October long holidays and it is safe this year as those who are suppose to get pay had been paid..... Whatever that means....

Well Santa, in my years of experience in dealing with Chinese businessmen, I had found that a lot of them are very short-sighted. Not like back home, we spoke of Win / Win concept. Here is a always Win / lose, they win you lose. The first thing I learnt this when I arrived here (from a wise old mentor) ; was that when sitting down in a negotiation with any Chinese Businessman, their thought will be only one; 'How to make all your money, theirs. '
So having said that, they don't care if their pie will be gone one day, they just want to make sure they get their piece before it is gone. Of course there are some minor elements like making themselves look good and look like they are doing their jobs to the central government, but all these are for show.

CiaoOh, I do not disagree with this and that's why I am still here in China. Although since my retirement; I do not do so much business with the Chinese, but I am still in touch with the Govenment "friends". They can come in useful all the time, all you need to to give them what they want!

China is not a place to invest in, only take from. Whether it's the P4P or cheap goods. Any smart Chinese Businessperson will take their money out of the country for one main reason. They can never own the land their property is on.

Took three SG customers to Yihao tonight and the customers were very happy due to WGs all back in uniform. Blue / pink dressed girls with green tags are 3-6-9; Maroon dressed girls with gold tags are 3-7-10, and black dressed girls with flower shaped tags are 4-10-15. As most of you know, Canton fair will start on 15th October through 4th November, this is peak season in CP so for those of you planning to come to CP during this time to be sure to book your hotel rooms as well as KTV rooms as early as possible.

I guess due to the previous period of "unrest" with Raids and "regular checks" in July thu September, CP now turn out very quiet this October holidays. Every year the October holidays is to low period for KTVs, Saunas and all the other fun as most of the girls had gone home. However this year is slightly different as most of these girls who would had made their home trip money are still here, thanks to the advance unrest period.
I am in CP and had spoken to a numbers of these girls, mummies and managers, they all told me the same story;"No money, so go back home later or Chinese New Year." The KTVs are quite empty these few days from the day when the holidays started but there are lots of nice girls to chose from even if you walked in at 9pm. There are very few police on the roads. I was at Virgin hotel last week they have the best lineup you should able to get a room there for about 380 a night but not sure if you are coming during the canton fair, I check other sauna like clipper and new century line up are poor, most action is at the sauna and KTV most bbs are closed, if you know some mamasan you can get them to bring girl to your room.

In the past 5 days, have gotten mixed results in Qingxi. Will fill in details later if asked, but here is a quick report for now:

Just a public service reminder that although rashes on the tummy are definitely worth avoiding, rashes on the bottoms of the feet and on the palms of the hands should terrify us.
I am not a doctor, and if there is one here please add to or correct my post, but (according to my reading / CDC) rashes in these areas indicate recent exposure to syphilis.
I speak here from some experience, having had a single wonderful evening sans condom with a Chinese GF back in the USA that I had known for a long time. By comparison, China has about 1/5 the world's population and about 1/5 the world's prison population, with a significant number of political prisoners. I wouldn't worry about it. You chances of getting busted in a vice raid in the US is a lot greater than in China.

Fast Eddie 48Sorry, just realized you meant the ticket machines. I can't use the Passport Card on the ticket machines, but I can use it at the ticket window in lieu of my regular passport book. Like I said earlier, much more convenient to carry the Passport Card than the entire book.
So I spent the evening somewhere in the middle of nowhere near Shilong. I have to say, the new map app on the iPhone is a huge improvement over the previous one. The cab driver had no idea where to go (not sure if he was making it up, but whatever) , so I pretty much told him the way using the map app, and it worked great. BTW, if you frequent CP, it lists most of the hotels and landmarks in the area except the most recently built, like the new shopping mall near the Hui Mei. It doesn't have building outlines yet in CP, but I'm sure it'll come, since they already have it for Nancheng.

WWFoshan is far. Best way would be to make your way to the the Guangzhou East train station and take the GuangShen Express train to Dongguan. A cab wouldn't be able to take you directly to CP, he'd drop you off at the city limits of Guangzhou. A private driver could take you, his rate would depend on how far off in Foshan you are, but I would hazard a guess and say about 400-500RMB, perhaps more. I'd imagine Foshan is at least 2 hours by car to CP, maybe 3 hours if there's traffic.
Fare by taxi:
It's roughly 120km from FS to CP, therefore:
10mao 1st 3km. 2 mao / m up to 15km, then 2. 4 mao 15km+ = 10mao (1st 3km) + 2mao * 12km + 2. 4 mao * 105km = 286mao ( 120km).
You can take train from foshan to Guangzhou, then Guangzhou to CP, however, you need to time your arrival for the connection:

Staid.LOL! Actually I had to go on a day trip to Foshan from CP yesterday and even though I am quite familiar with the drill, it still took me at least 2 hours each way.
Start with taking the CRH train from CP to GZE (rmb 55, 35 mins) .10 mins to transfer from CRH to the Guangzhou metro station and buy a RMB 8 token to go on the #1 line to the end of the line (approx 50 mins) and transfer over to the GuangFo line to Zumiao in Foshan where I was headed to (another approx 30 mins including the long walk to change lines and wait for it to come / go).
So already 125 minutes in actual travel time not including the time it takes to and from the individual stations PLUS waiting in line to buy the CRH ticket - worse on the way back in GZ as the lines were much longer compared to the one in CP.
But of course this is Canton Trade Fair season, but I'd say to be conservative, one needs at least 2-1/2 hours to travel between Foshan hotel to CP even if things are all ultra smooth.

Staid.I've half-heartedly tried in the past to take taxis for longer distance / out of town trips in China, but except for well taxi traveled routes I. E. CP to Shenzhen, usually meet with taxi drivers refusing as they then need to come back "empty." Private cars will usually agree but they usually will overcharge if again, my destination is not a popular destination from where they can get a return fare.
Do you find the same problem as I?

I've half-heartedly tried in the past to take taxis for longer distance / out of town trips in China, but except for well taxi traveled routes I. E. CP to Shenzhen, usually meet with taxi drivers refusing as they then need to come back "empty." Private cars will usually agree but they usually will overcharge if again, my destination is not a popular destination from where they can get a return fare.
Do you find the same problem as I?

StaidWith the way that traffc is in Guangzhou these days. And especially during the Canton Trade Fair, taking a taxi from Foshan to Guangzhou would not really save you a lot of time. I did it once and it took me nearly an hour and I nearly missed the last train to CP that night (which BTW is 10:40 nowadays).
Yes, Taxi or private car from CP to "well traveled" taxi routes like to SZ is not that much of a problem, but other destinations I have had issues with.

SEANGuangzhou to DG taxi is possible for 100rmb, as long as you go to where the DG (or visa versa) taxis are looking to get back to there local patch, always a few available and and most times of the day or night, that said any time during canton fair maybe a nightmare journey.

And also, do note that Dongguan is quite large and whilst you're probably correct about RMB 100 for trip to, say DongCheng or even Houjie, Chang Ping is a lot further from Guangzhou. Anyway, I'd like to try your suggestion the next time I need to come down from Guangzhou to CP.
Also as an aside, if you miss the last train from Guangzhou to Shenzhen, there is usually quite a few touts / drivers offering trips down to Shenzhen at / around the CRH ticket window and they would quote you per passenger NOT per car.

Whether any of them are from CP is a gamble. Most likely there will be more than one location where they gather, probably near each main road entrance to Guangzhou. In DG, there are 3 places I know of with cabs waiting to go back to SZ, and more than likely there are others.

1. Chinese are trying to extract every last Yuan from you, and they will say anything to get it from you. There's a saying in Shanghaiese,"mixing the glue." It means twisting words around and agreeing with anything you say to get you to do what they want. The way to fight this is simple. Hang on to your money. Or say "I have no money." Chinese say this everyday. It means,"Don't mess with me. Your wasting your time!"
2. Time is on your side. Chinese now are getting busier so time is a factor. If you just be quiet and wait, it will force them to react and push the issue. The worse thing you can do is argue and escalate. Just be quiet, patient, and wait until they negotiate to the price you are willing to pay. This is how Chinese deal with problems between themselves.
3. Beware the middle man. Chinese will try to bring in a Mediator. Why? Because it gives them numbers to push their case. The thinking goes 3 against 1, you will give in. How to deal with it, go back to number 1. Hang on to your money, or say "I have no money." It means,"Don't mess with me. Your wasting your time!"
4. The empty threat. This is their last ditch effort to get money from you. Before it used to be,"China is a Sovereign state, we will not be intimidated". Now, it's "I can not guarantee your safety outside." If you give in to this, you are an idiot. If someone bullies you everyday, would you give them your lunch money? Just be patient and wait. They will negotiate to price you are willing to pay.
5. Threaten to call the police / authorities. "useless"
6. The line. Chinese know there is a line they will not cross. Anything before the line is fair game. For example, prostitution is fair game. Protesting against the government. Crossed the line. Fortunately, when it comes to money, almost everything is fair game. Why, well you probably can guess why by reading the news.
I've probably been in life threatening situations more than 20 times. Not once has it come to anything. Why? Because they only want your money. So give it to them, but not all of it. Give what you think is reasonable, otherwise they will keep extorting money from Foreigners. Just like the US, they don't play fair. I tired of visitors not understanding their thinking. So please my fellow brothers, learn this game so we can even out the playing field.

I think this is the one east of the town center? Better not to divulge name at this time, heard LE activities ceased, but one can never be sure.

ABCinLA, a couple other friends and I went BBS hunting today.
Since the CP BBS's now are operating so "stealthily," next time you go, I suggest that you should bring a flashlight or even just a cigarette lighter with those LED lights. The BBS's themselves are well lit, but its the passages, back alleys, stairs etc that they make you go through that are quite dark (and appears pitch dark when you go in from the bright sunlight) and you really need to grope along unless you got some kind of portable light with you.
3'ish this afternoon (Friday) , one BBS had approx 20 gals and another had approx 10 from which I was able to choose quite a good looker with a real tight Mei Mei from Guangxi (spoke Cantonese! The only rule that is quite strictly enforced is that the Mommie gets her differing cut from the transaction involved.
Rather, discussions on rates center around many other factors such as how good looking / usually popular she is, if its a week-end or not (when girls expect that she will be able to get multiple clients for the day) , Yanda or not (ditto) , the punter's chemistry with the gal and more importantly, the gal herself. What mood is she in that particular day, if she's got a BF to go back to, does she prefer a leisurely / more meaningful LT session with one guy or does she prefer lucrative multiple liaisons with faceless Johns, is she happy just pumping away at a BBS or is she on the look-out for prospective "sponsors" etc.

I will be staying (arranged by host) in Triumphal View hotel in DG (Huangchong Economic Development Zone&65292; Zhongtang Town).

I'm getting this straight from two mamasans with full BBS (not the hole in the wall with just one or two girls). That being said, I agree that the girl is the one making the final decision. She can always make up a reason why not to go LT if she doesn't want to. But given that everything's a "go" then those were the rules I was quoted and that worked out over three different girls. Also agree with you that a few hundred one way or another is a small concession for a good time.
IMHO / I THINK there really is no hard and fast rule or even "Hong Kwai" (conventions of the trade) as far as timing vs rate for LT versus ST for BBS's.

Was just perusing the menu in amazement at the prices they now can charge in CP, (at the new Ida restaurant next to the Boton Steak house) when in comes a gal with one of her friends and her Xiao Long Gao in tow.
They sat right at the booth behind me and I couldn't help but over-hearing her proclaiming proudly to "order anything you like, it's on me tonight! That Saw Lo (stupid sucker) tipped me an extra 3, 000 yuan for the past 3 days!"
All greeted with merriment and laughter of derision at whoever the guy was who had been so generous to her. The Ohio Supreme Court's decision in Norwood v. Horney. A Major Victory for Property Rights:
The Ohio Supreme Court's unanimous decision in Norwood v. Horney, issued today, is an important victory for property rights. It is probably the most important judicial decision on eminent domain since Kelo v. City of New London. Perhaps the most significant element of the decision is the fact that the Court went beyond banning "economic development" condemnations of the sort permitted by the USA Supreme Court in Kelo, and also suggested that there are state constitutional limitations on the governments' power to condemn property that is designated as "blighted." The Ohio Supreme Court has also become the 11th state supreme court to ban Kelo-style condemnations under its state constitution, a decision which largely negates the shortcomings of Ohio's woefully inadequate post-Kelo "reform" law.
I. Banning Economic Development Takings.
First and most obviously, Norwood bans the condemnation of property for transfer to another private party in order to promote "economic development." The Ohio Supreme Court has now become the eleventh state high court to ban Kelo-style takings under its state constitution, and the second to do so since Kelo was decided (following Oklahoma) :
Although we have permitted economic concerns to be considered in addition to other factors, such as slum clearance, when determining whether the public-use requirement is sufficient, we have never found economic benefits alone to be a sufficient public use for a valid taking. We decline to do so now.
We hold that an economic or financial benefit alone is insufficient to satisfy the public-use requirement of Section 19, Article I [of the Ohio Constitution]. In light of that holding, any taking based solely on financial gain is void as a matter of law and the courts owe no deference to a legislative finding that the proposed taking will provide financial benefit to a community.
Unfortunately, there is an important problem here, because the Ohio Court still permits "economic concerns to be considered in addition to other factors, such as slum clearance, when determining whether the public-use requirement" has been met. If this exception is interpreted broadly, it could greatly undermine the impact of Norwood, since local governments can often cite some "other factor" to justify a condemnation that is in reality undertaken for development purposes. A categorical ban on the "economic development" rationale would have been better. If the "other factors" are sufficient to justify condemnation in their own right, well and good. But it is a mistake to allow otherwise inadequate factors to go through because of claims that the condemnation will also promote development. Hopefully, Ohio courts will interpret the "other factor" exception narrowly.
II. Potentially Limiting Blight Condemnations.
The most unique and original aspect of the Norwood decision is the way in which it may limit "blight" condemnations, as well as those purely for "economic development" purposes.
As I have pointed out in both blog posts (e. G, here) , and in my academic work (see here and here) , broad definitions of blight of the sort which are all too common in state legislation can undermine a ban on economic development takings by licensing local officials to declare virtually any area blighted, thereby allowing the property there to be condemned. Recent state court decisions have concluded that such areas as Times Square and downtown Las Vegas are "blighted," thereby justifying condemnation of property to build a new heaquarters for the New York Times and new parking lots for politically influential Las Vegas casinos. See Las Vegas Downtown Redev. Agency v. Pappas. 76 P. 3d 1 (Nev. 2003) (Las Vegas case) ; In re W. 41st St. Realty v. N. Y. State Urban Dev. Corp. 744 N. Y. S. 2d 121 (N. Y. App. Div. 2002) (Times Square case).
The Norwood decision can help put a stop to such abuses, especially if courts in other states choose to adopt its reasoning. In Norwood, numerous homes in relatively good condition were condemned by a local government under an ordinance that allows condemnatin of property that was in a "slum" area,"blighted," or "deteriorated." Only the third of these ("deterioration") was claimed to be present by the government in the Norwood case. The Ohio Supreme Court refused to permit condemnation under this rationale because the city's definition of "deterioration" would permit condemnation of virtually any property in any neighborhood:
As defined by the Norwood Code, a 'deteriorating area' is not the same as a 'slum, blighted or deteriorated area, ' the standard typically employed for a taking. And here, of course, there was no evidence to support a taking under that standard. To the contrary, the buildings in the neighborhood were generally in good condition and the owners were not property-tax delinquent.
The Norwood Code sets forth a fairly comprehensive array of conditions that purport to describe a 'deteriorating area, ' including those found by the trial judge in this case: incompatible land uses, nonconforming uses, lack of adequate parking facilities, faulty street arrangement, obsolete plotting, diversity of ownership. In addition, the trial court identified the following factors as supporting the determination that the neighborhood was deteriorating: increased traffic, dead-end streets that impede public safety vehicles, numerous curb cuts and driveways, and small front yards. But all of those factors exist in virtually every urban American neighborhood. Because the Norwood Code's definition of a deteriorating area describes almost any city, it is suspect.

Although Norwood addressed only the issue of condemnations of "deteriorated" areas rather than "blighted" ones, the exact same reasons why the Ohio Supreme Court rejected the City of Norwood's "deterioration" rationale can also be used to strike down overly broad definitions of blight.
Up until now, no other state supreme court has confronted the contradiction between banning "economic development" takings and permitting blight condemnations under a virtually limitless definition of "blight." Hopefully, other states will resolve this issue in a way similar to Ohio's approach.
III. Connection to Post-Kelo Legislation.
The Norwood decision is also noteworthy because Ohio recently enacted one of the least effective of all post-Kelo reform statutes. As I explain in greater detail in a forthcoming article (pp. 69-71) , the new Ohio law accomplishes almost nothing. The centerpiece of the law is the establishment of a commission to consider eminent domain reform. A commission stacked with representatives of interest groups that benefit from economic development takings.
The conjunction of the Norwood decision and Ohio's virtually useless post-Kelo law emphasizes the need to recognize that we cannot rely exclusively on the political process to protect constitutional property rights, a point I previously stressed here and here. Sometimes, judicial intervention is also needed.
CONFLICT OF INTEREST WATCH: As noted here, I once briefly worked for the Institute for Justice, the public interest law firm that represented the property owners in Norwood and Kelo, and have written several pro bono amicus briefs for them.
UPDATE: I should have also noted the significance of the Ohio Supreme Court's holding that "Courts shall apply heightened scrutiny when reviewing statutes that regulate the use of eminent domain powers." This potentially could limit ALL uses of eminent domain, not just those that transfer the condemned property to private parties (as in Kelo and other "economic development" cases). Two other states (Michigan and Delaware) apply heightened scrutiny to condemnations that greatly benefit particular private interests, but Ohio will be the first state to apply it all uses of eminent domain. It is not yet clear exactly how demanding Ohio's "heightened scrutiny" doctrine is going to be, but it certainly strengthens protection for property owners against eminent domain abuse.
UPDATE #2: A small correction: the Norwood ordinance ultimately at issue in the decision is not the one that permits condemnations of blighted, slum, or deteriorated areas, but a similar one that allows the taking of "deteriorating" property. I missed this distinction in my first reading of the opinion, and thank Institute for Justice attorney Dana Berliner for correcting me.

First night headed to Dongcheng International Hotel. I had to discuss several minutes before the bellboy showed me the way to the elevator. Coming out of the elevator, the mamasan wellcomes you. Very nice facility, very clean, nice rooms. Line up with 3 categories of girls 600/800/1000 rmb. Room charge is 198 rmb and chose the 800 girl. Total damage 998 rmb difference between 800 and 1000 rmb girls are the boobs which are bigger but false.

I will do a couple KTV's (I am familar with KTV's and how they work). And, as I have never tried a sauna, will try that one afternoon. I am sure I will not go to a HJ massage as that does not excite me and I really am not too interested in immediately following someone else in the FS area. Of course, I don't know what a few drinks and some temptation will do!
I know that KTV's are costly, but as a older guy, I wouldn't expect any of the great ones to go with me if it wasn't for the money. But that said, I do like the interaction and fun with the girl in the KTV before you just get down to business!

I stayed at the Eurasia Hotel which is the best hotel in CP. It kinda felt like a high end Vegas hotel being dropped down in the middle of nowhere because walking outside, it really felt like there's nothing there and you better off just eat and hang out inside the hotel.
So why go to CP, well it's the KTV duhhhh! I been to many KTVs from Beijing, Shanghai, to Taiwan and let me tell you, the KTV in CP makes them look like kids play. I never seen line up like this before, literally 300-400+ girls lined up on either side of you as you walk down to make your pick. My eyes were going blurry, my mind racing, my heart pounding with excitement and simply stunned by the # of beautiful girls. Let me tell you, picking a girl was so difficult when they give you that many options. For newbies, my advice is to pick a couple and then eliminate them back in the KTV room where you can see them more clearly in the bright light. CP KTV is awesome and drinking / singing was pretty affordable. You can take the girl back if you like and it's also reasonable.
The craziest shit is by 5:30ish, as we drive to the KTV, Mayflower, I looked outside and I think 80% of the girls walking around were dressed up to go to KTV. It's truly a sight worth seeing and experience on your own. We also went to another KTV call Amazon where the girls get full nude, but it was a big step down in quality. I say stick with the high end ones because you definitely will get to see your girl naked end of the night if you want to :)
I would highly recommend using a guide. I used Tony from ISO Travel, he speaks fluent English, Chinese, Canto, and was very easy to work with. I will definitely be using him again next time I head out to CP. Look him up, he is all over the place on the forum when it comes to DG.

MrclenNo Tony at ISO said Eurasia KTV too expensive so we went to other one instead. Probably should have stayed at a cheaper hotel since I didn't even go to Eurasia KTV. But Eurasia is like a 300 a night kind of place in the US so for 100. 00 why the fuck not. It's so freaking nice.
I say stick Mayflow and the higher end ones. Amazon naked KTV was fun but the quality was a lot lower. I prefer my girls of certain standard and since I know I can get them naked anyway back at my hotel, I don't really care if tthey are naked at the KTV. As far as how much you can do, it's totally up the girl. My friend got his KTV girl to give him a BJ so you get the idea. She was drunk and happy. It's usually 300 rmb for sitting. 600 rmb for short time and 900 rmb for overnight. The KTV price, I went with 2 other guys and it comes out to be around 120. 00 US a person but keep in mind, we are big drinkers and we usually there from opening to closing time. Was just perusing the menu in amazement at the prices they now can charge in CP, (at the new Ida restaurant next to the Boton Steak house) when in comes a gal with one of her friends and her Xiao Long Gao in tow.
They sat right at the booth behind me and I couldn't help but over-hearing her proclaiming proudly to "order anything you like, it's on me tonight! That Saw Lo (stupid sucker) tipped me an extra 3, 000 yuan for the past 3 days!"
All greeted with merriment and laughter of derision at whoever the guy was who had been so generous to her. The gal went on to describe how she made the guy feel all He-manly, how the guy now thinks she's madly in love with him, how he couldn't even afford decent shoes and yet still went ahead and gave her the extra 3K etc etc.
Sad really. At how these gals fool guys, toying with their emotions. But also at how stupid these gals are in the final analysis. That they'll end up old, unwanted and most probably broke as they've got no sense of monetary reality; that she will not forever be able to gouge money out of guys; that karma will hit her back hard; or her Xiao Long Gao bleeding her dry; before leaving her for a younger / better looking / more money producing body.

I will now arrive in CP on the 24th of January and will leave for Panyu on the 28th for two days there. As per several suggestions, I have contacted BSD and am waiting to hear more from him about how we get together, hotels he recommends, (the less $$$ I spend on a decent hotel, the more for partying and playing) , hosted KTV sessions, etc. I hope I get to meet some of the ISG contingent while there as I have enjoyed reading these posts!

a draft proposal to "strengthen protection of internet information ", discussed at a national people's congress standing committee meeting on monday, would oblige internet service providers to protect personal information and restrict the sending of spam text messages and e-mails.
li fei, deputy director of the npc's legislative affairs committee, told the meeting that because of "difficulty in getting evidence and punishing the right person" in cases of online crimes,"it's necessary to strengthen regulation of the identity of internet users", state media reported.
he was quoted as saying that people would be legally required to register with their real names when they signed up for platforms that released information, such as blogs, microblogs and bulletin board services. such platforms have become a major source of anti-corruption exposés recently.
microblog users were told to register their real identities by march this year in a bid to curb "rumours and vulgarity", but that was a directive rather than a law.
official propaganda on the legislation has focused on online frauds and harassing phone calls, but more people are concerned about the basic human right of information freedom.

"but if you register with your real name and someone steals your account and spreads a rumour in your name, undeserved punishment could happen", he wrote on his microblog.
professor shen kui, from peking university's law school, questioned the legal reasoning behind the proposal.
he said that it was not technically necessary, since the police could already bust online crimes without requiring real name registration, for example, via a user's ip address, while it could frighten off many potential whistleblowers.
"when the negative social influence goes beyond the cost of busting crimes, the reasoning of this legislation is insufficient," shen said.

Heard that some saunas already operating in a slight restricted manner I. E. Needs prior phone call to a manager to arrange but these things change at the drop of a hat in CP and I don't believe that if there IS now a crackdown, that it would be as severe or long lasting as the last one past summer. I've been going to Fu Hao (Plutocrat) in Chang Ping for a number of years. Great place. Same, clean, excellent service. The mami there I know well, and is straight and fair (as honest as they can be in the circs). Call her up from Hong Kong and if she suggests it's not as 'on chuen' as it might be, you don't go.
It used to cost $300, 400, 500 for C, B, A pai plus $150 or so extra for the room.
After the 3 month crackdown ealier in 2012, it became $500, 600, 700 for C, B, A pai, although this included the room charge. My mami told me that the girls had actually asked for a bit more, and hence the prices went up. This sounds a bit suspect to me. The girls got a union? And if they did ask for more and get it, well OK. Anyway.

I asked the girls in the room about the surcharge (I saw 2) and they sort of concurred. I asked them where the extra $200 went. They said they got $100 and the management took $100. So I'm still not totally clear on the veracity of the rationale for the surcharge. Girls or management wanting to bleed punters a bit more?
But the girls did say that pretty much all saunas across Chang Ping were whacking on this foreigners $200 surcharge.
Not much you can do really. Service in SP is pretty special. So you just grin and bear it I guess.

Just a note. I have changed my hotel as per BSD (and yours) suggestion and will be staying at the Walter.

Bit off the beaten track compared to CP but.
Was in Houjie a couple of weeks ago and stayed at the Wenyi Hotel. Out the back of the hotel is Houjie Square right next to the Terminal Bus station for long distance buses. Off to the top right in the lane way is a BBS also. Basically from the bus station one road takes you to the rear entrance of the hotel. The other one takes you to a highway street. Cross that road and there is a Barber Shop on your right within the lane way. Before the convenience store.
There is a full service KTV in the hotel over 3 floors. Rooms for the KTV start at around $368 plus tips for the server $100 and the DJ $300. Girls are 3/8/12 However I had a special rate after the first night. I also slipped the mamasan a few hundred so she looks after me too. It helps that I have friends to keep me safe, but having the mamasan on your side helps if the girls play up.
BTW when I say Special rate, it is not a cheaper rate. As I was alone, I was told to cut out the middle man and skipped the KTV. I think they noticed that I do not sing and just liked drinking and playing games LOL.
So the next night, I bought the girls and the mamasan dinner. (around $200 for 4 of us. Worth it as you can try some different food nearby) Then they took me to the supermarket to buy my alcohol of choice. Cognac. Hennessy VSOP 700 ml for around $400. Went back to my Hotel room, the mamasan sent up some dice and beer and the games were on. We could have some fun then party the night away. I also took the two girls that I ordered to the local nightclub where we bought some beer. $300 per dozen cans (min charge) and had some fun there too. I suspect you could find WG's there also from what I could see. More food after then back to the hotel to have more fun.
Another night I arrived late around 11pm. Rang the mamasan to organise a room and asked for a LT girl. Was asked if I wanted them to go to the Supermarket to get me a bottle of Cognac. I said no, I want to go back to the disco. Got to the hotel, checked in then off to the Disco where they reserved a table for me. Bought my dozen beers and the mamasan joined us as the KTV was basically over for new customers at that time. Her friends and customers came over where I found people to play dice games with. My girl got up on the counter and started dancing. Other friends brought their beers over and I started drinking them under the table LMAO. Once they had all left and bowed to my prodigious tolerance for weak beer (Budweiser) , went out to a local hotpot place where the mamasan paid for the food then dropped me back at the hotel.

He always stocks up at the duty free for his own stock and now I do the same. I understand if you are in HK you can go back and forth across the border and few times and end up with enough of the real thing to make it worthwhile. Now, I will say that I have ran short of the real stuff a couple times and had to buy locally-I couldn't really tell a difference, but if you put the same brand side by side (one locally purchased, and one duty free) , there was a difference in the taste and strength.
Just information to be aware of, and maybe it could help a bit.

I know about the dodgy liquor. However as my handle mentions I am too lazy to carry it back and forth from China each time. .
Even so, dodgy liquor from the super market is still better than dodgy liquor from the overpriced KTV or nightclub. LOL.
As for the Girls, when I order in like that, the mamasan picks. Usually someone I have picked before and I still have right of refusal. But like I said, I am not too picky. No pork chops, but I am more interested in SYT's.

Seems like businesses sprout. And then close just as rapidly here. One of the few things I've never understood is how come with all these Singaporean / Malaysian guys coming here, Sing / Ma restaurants never seem to do well in CP; the Singapore Restaurant on ChaoYang #5 St. Has closed down, the Baikut tea place behind the Sun Kong hotel is long gone and that little restaurant in front of the Legend café on SWL road is also history. Are they all that inadequate for guys from Singapore / Malaysia? Or perhaps the question is why should they eat such inferior Sing-Ma food in CP when genuine Chinese food is in abundance?
And Japanese restaurants in Chang Ping. Even that whole "Japanese Village" on top of the Singing Dragon veggie KTV / Pozolim? That place is huge with different Japanese restaurants. But like most other Japanese restaurants in town, they NEVER seem to have but a few stragglers dining in them; how do they all stay in business? Or is it that they're so pricey that they can afford to not have to cater to the masses. Heck even their all you can eat offering (like the one down the street from the Pozolim) are priced very high (RMB 149/pax I think) compared to other all-you-can-eat offerings in town and certainly even pricier than in SZ or Guangzhou!
The only ones that seems to be busy is that one in the #8 mall (which I think still offers 50% discount on all sushi after 8 pm) and that merry go round sushi one half way down ChaoYang #5 St. Next to the now defunct Singapore restaurant. And oh yeah, the new Ida restaurant next to the Boton steak house which is run by a particularly friendly guy who probably have a lot of friends giving him face by patronizing his restaurant; but I wonder if his trade will also slow down when he sooner or later runs out of friends to give him face! Lets face it, the place is NOT cheap!
Anyway. I've just had a series of friends come to Chang Ping and different guys brought me / I brought them to different places to eat. Now, I figure that since we all need to eat (and in fact, it seems like that's all I do when I'm not out screwing when I'm in CP!) , perhaps I could outline a few places I personally find GREAT. Not only just good value for money, but more importantly, food I personally find good in this little hamlet. Hope you guys find it useful and also, I very much hope that you will contribute your own favorite places so that I / we all can benefit from your sharing of the information.

Dim Sum – the old favorites used to be the Miraton and Hui Hua, but I find that nowadays it's really not value for money (Tea charge PLUS 10% In CP?) plus I do think their standards have slipped somewhat. Especially at the Miraton when I have TWICE caught the waiter VERBALLY adding 40 or 50 RMB to what the actual bill was when I checked. Both times I complained to the captain and whilst they did apologize for their staff's carelessness etc, I do think that these captains are probably part of the scheme to fleece us guys who do NOT normally check the bill, especially when fighting for it etc.
Then there's the new places like The Old restaurant (on the 3rd floor of the Lucky) , the one on the top floor of the new LCC mall (what does LCC stand for? Lousy Chinese Crap? LOL!). But these places are also very pricey IMHO. And prices there seem to have already risen even though still so relatively new. MY current favorite for Dim Sum is the Yihao where my friend pointed out the drastic difference between the lowest priced Dim Sum (RMB 4. 80) and their highest priced ones (I think RMB 18. 80 if I'm not wrong). And here I WAS assuming all along, whenever I go to Dim sum, that price difference between one dim sum dish to another should not be that much! Yihao do NOT charge for tea and NO 10% plus service charge. So if you stay away from their pricey Teas, you can get away with a real small bill whilst having a real fill. And if they get to know you like they know my friend, they 'compliment' him with the pricey teas too. The only drawback to the Yihao is that they stop the kitchen at 1:30 PM – WHAT?
Goose and Duck – CP is long famous for its roast goose / duck from days gone by when this area was rural and this fame has carried on and there are still 3 great goose places on ChaoYang #5 St. (the street where the Triangular park between the Hui Mei and The Virgin is at.) I like the last one AWAY from the Hui Mei, but all of them have GREAT Goose on all sorts of noodles (RMB 13) or rice (RMB 18). Don't bother to order most of the other items on the menu as IMHO, they're a bit overpriced for the place / ambience and I can pretty well guarantee you that you will be stuffed when ordering just one Bowl / plate rice. Great deal for a fast, tasty treat.
On that same street is the old time foreign visitor's favorite, again from days long gone when there was NOT that many places serving decent coffee AND menus in English – Mito's restaurant where we love to go after 2 PM. It used to be better when there were a lot of seats looking outside to the 'Sea of Pussy' of gals going to get their hair done, have lunch, go back to their KTV job etc. And oh, why after 2 PM? Because that is the time when they start serving their Tea set which is a GREAT deal. (RMB 29 for 2 courses plus drink!)

And talk about great deals – how about RMB 50 for a WHOLE duck? There's a new place in between the Rainbow Shopping mall and the 6000 restaurant that serves you a whole duck for that price (and you can order unlimited rice for RMB 2 and bowls of noodles for RMB 4) which is more than enough even for 4 pax. The 4 of us were there the other night and my gal had the next day made yummy duck congee from the big doggie bag of left-over duck she insisted on taking back that night!
And the 6000 restaurant – yeah, a chain restaurant but IMHO an ideal place combining very good food, reasonable prices AND an acceptable ambience / facility. I particularly love their Chilled Kai Lan served on a bed of crushed ice, accompanied with Wasabi and soya sauce! Best Greens in town!
Spicy Chinese foods. Xiao Yue Tien in that corner down the street from the 85 degree bakery and in front of the China Construction Bank serves pretty good Hunan food. To me anyway, even though it is a chain operation. I always order their Fish head steamed with chili which is their signature dish and only cost RMB 28 for a huge platter. At least I THINK its Hunan food! Much good I am at distinguishing different province dishes. Anyway, its a great place for Spicy food and there's a newer branch on Swan Lake Road across the street from in between The Clipper and The SWL hotel.
Another great place for Spicy food is that one on DongXing Road catty corner to the entrance to Swan Lake Road. And if you have friends who do not eat spicy foods accompanying, you can order for them their great Sweet and Sour Crispy fried fish as well as tofu with salted egg sauce. Just those 2 great dishes should satisfy them!
And a Spicy Food place that a lot of guys like is that one on top of the Pozolim (Hmmm. What IS its name?). Nice ambience and decent food although a bit too spicy for me; I don't like Chili oil (Vs. Fresh chili / peppers) as it gives me gas and this place do use chili oil on a lot of their dishes. Plus they've got a bit of tourist pricing don't they?

But if you want to impress, I guess Lo's on the same street as Mito's is the place all the KTV gals drag us suckers to for après KTV suppers. Yeah, the food is good but what can you expect for the price you have to pay. Nah. This place had gone off my radar a long time ago and if I need to bring guests / girls to a nicer place, I'the rather bring them to the Capital Club at the other end of the building housing the Sing party KTV (the ex PP KTV). Great ambience, a bit pricey but well worth it IMHO and they DO have a good selection of wines and a decent particular favorite of mine and a treat to be able to eat in CP. Foie gras. (but then again, I can get a whole Goose liver for RMB 3 at the Goose restaurants!)
And the various Boton restaurants in town – especially the one next to the Cultural Centre. Are very reasonably priced, offering nice surroundings and live music. NICE! And the Boton Steak house, OK what can you expect in a place like CP – but surprisingly, their steaks are acceptable and their Moccha and coffee Icee (blended ice – forgot what they call it exactly) is like ambrosia especially during the hot Summer months!
The Hong Kong style Cha Chaan Teng's are OK for quick, reasonably priced meals, but they really are getting a bit pricey for what you get. Tsui wah on ZhongYuan street and the Legend café on SWL I favor over the others. Like the used to be ubiquitous Kam Ho restaurants (many have closed down – deservedly – as they were really dirty places!) or the Man Yue across the street from the Pozolim which have REALLY raised their prices of late.
Then there is the slew of restaurants in the #8 mall – two which I sort of like
1) Saizeria – a Taiwanese owned, Japanese style Italian restaurant chain (yeah, a helluva combination) for its VERY CHEAP meals where I could take Western friends to and where they can complain about the crap Pizza, steaks and pastas! LOL! But cheap it is and IMHO quite a good deal for acceptable meals, especially the fresh salad which I just cannot get anywhere else in CP and their free flow drinks for RMB 6!
2) A Ping Er Fong (?) which is cafeteria style place serving great tasting food for a very reasonable price (a whole steamed fish for RMB 12, various small plate full of veggies for RMB 4 etc). I also like the place as I've often seen the owner taking pride in his place and ALWAYS cleaning up here, there, everywhere; there's a branch of this restaurant in the building next to the Rainbow across the street from Starbucks.
Hairy Crab – the best and tastiest deal IMHO. Go to the Yalan wholesale plaza and get your own live Hairy crabs for RMB 40 – 60 / lb for real good sized ones. Take them to the nearby Chiu Chow congee places to steam for you (last time they charged me RMB 50 for 20 crabs) and top it all off with the restaurant's famous Chiu Chow congee! Perfect for cold winter nights!

And Cold winter nights are great for Hot Pots – no, not the Little Lamb hot pot or the newish RMB 48/68 all you can eat one on top of the Pozolim (they charge extra each pax for the soup base! LOL!) but at the Pig's intestine chicken on the 2 / f across the street from the Postal Savings bank / Gome appliance store on top of the recently closed Breeze Cloud cha chaan teng. Great big steaming bowl of fresh soup with chunks of chicken and intestine which after you've finished eating, serves as the soup for various items you order as hot pot. And the highlight here? Their fried peanuts they serve as appetizer! They're the best darn peanuts I've had, all nice and crunchy and flavored just right! Most times I gorge on these and get full even before the steam boat arrives!
And seafood! There's that perennial favorite of everybody across the street from the Lucky? Even though its so popular / always packed, it seems that they've not really gone more expensive all these years. And BTW, to dine economically here, order more from the menu and NOT go and chose too many of your own seafood from the tanks; when I order from the tanks, somehow or other the bill doubles up easily. Especially if you allow the girls to do the choosing! Another good seafood restaurant is the one down the street from the OuYa and I'd say the place has got a bit better ambience versus the one across the street from the Lucky and they have private rooms too.

Street food! In fact there ARE a lot of great street foods in CP.
And those street side hot pot. Or Ma Laat Tang. Places are great places to break bread as usually, there ARE at least a couple or so gals also partaking at the same stall. An innocent question to her / them like what is that or is that good are easy opener for more conversation. Errr. NOT saying that one should try to get freebies whilst in CP (most gals are in CP to actually sell their body after all, and its not nice to get her body and not pay. Just sayin'!) , but these places are great places to get to know a gal in their own surroundings and in their natural habitat. This versus at the quite unreal / plastic surroundings of a KTV room when you are paying for the privilege of getting to know your quarry!
The alley way behind the Rainbow department store is turned into a virtual street food after 11 PM with vehicular traffic not allowed, and there's all sorts of great places there. I particularly like the 2 Fujian stalls selling great fried noodles, double boiled soups (Only RMB 5 for a pot filled with lots of meats etc!) but crap dumplings! And of course barbecue stalls. But I've learned to be a bit careful to look that the stuff I pick is fresh; I've had nasty runs after consuming what I now figure must have been some satays gone bad but unnoticeable as it had been spiced / marinated heavily. The ma laat tang stalls there are also great as a lot of the working gals live at the apartment building on top of the Rainbow and they have their supper there after work. There's also quite a few guys who Bao their gals in that building and their guys are NOT ALWAYS in town are they? LOL!
OK, enough of my rambling / this is getting to darn long – hope you guys find it of some use and that you WILL also contribute to the knowledge – with mucho thanks beforehand!

Another great restaurant in CP.
The Yakiniku just directly across from the 6000 restaurant.
Surprisingly, with a name like Yakiniku, it is NOT a Japanese restaurant; rather, it is a Korean BBQ place.
Flavourful meats with all the trimmings at pretty affordable prices for a restaurant with such high class ambience; quasi Japanese type seating spaciously apart which is great for "date nights." And in fact, I saw quite a few couples there last night!

This topic has been extensively discussed on this thread. Bottom line is that Joe is right to a certain extent. Some WGs are outright terrified of laowai for the reasons Joe has mentioned. Case in point, that Joe will remember, is a BBS girl in CP that ran away and hid in the toilet when Joe told her I wanted to do her. She would not come out until he told he that he was only joking.
The percentage varies but I reckon 30% is a good rule of thumb for girls that won't do foreigners. It may appear to be less since the mommies will suggest girls that are willing and we tend to be attracted to the girls that make eye contact and smile at us. This is a far cry better than when I first came to CP nearly 20 years ago when you were lucky to find 1-2 girls in a whole KTV that would even consider it. And, I want to forget about the quality that was offered. For sure, the worst couple of girls in the place by far.
I agree that you can reduce the rejection rate by addressing Joe's and other's suggestions for the reasons why e. G. Speaking a bit of the lingo, getting to know the mommies, dressing neat and clean, being polite, etc, sometimes even pulling out your schlong and showing the girl that you are not Johnny Wad helps. But, the fact still remains that you will always get rejected at one time or another regardless.
Regarding surcharges, I nearly always refuse to pay these on the basis of principle unless the girl is so hot that I absolutely cannot resist the temptation. They try all the time in venues where I have not been before and / or they do not know me or a fellow monger I am with. That said, this foreigner surcharge applies to anything you buy in China outside of a fixed price establishment. It does not help that many foreigners just pay the higher price to avoid a confrontation so the sellers continue to ask for the surcharges. Another case in point is the price for BBS girls now in Swan Lake / Yalan area. It was 150, then 200, now 250RMB. Many of us refused to pay the higher prices at first but, enough mongers, foreign and otherwise, agreed to the higher prices and we were told pay or no go eventually.
I have learned to live with the discrimation over the years since the situation has improved and I have always been able to find action, one way or another.

Spent three nights at the Eurasia Hotel in CP. (Five minute / 40 RMB taxi from Dongguan train station)
Tony / ISO 9000 helped me with bookings and travel arrangements. He was great. Saved me a few bucks and pointed me into the right direction. I will use him again for any travel needs I have in China or Singapore.
Eurasia was a clean modern hotel (should not read hotel. Should really read brothel). The majority of the hotel seems to purely be about getting it's customers laid.
The first night there I walked into the flower street at the KTV. Probably 60 girls in the lineup. Most very cute. Three grades. Black dresses. Regular / Red. Model / Blue. Super model. Super models for ST were 1500 I think. Regular was 700.
The real super stars are in the Sauna. IMHO. Was treated to two hours of the most outrageous star treatment. This little thai girl did everything that you can think of to try and put a big smile on my face. It's pretty much a scripted sequence resulting in 2 pops and lots of creative use of many props and accessories.
Everywhere else I went in China (as a white guy with above average endowment) I was asked to finish quickly as I was deemed too large. Heard this multiple times in CP and by the end it got old and you knew that you were not going to get any enthusiastic action.

First report:
Arrived in the Walter hotel at 11:30 PM after 24 hours of travel. Got a little rest on the plane so was not real tired. Met the manager of the KTV (not mamasan) in the hotel lobby as I was checking in. She (of course) invited me to come to the KTV, even helped me get to my room. I had booked a small suite, read it, living area with TV and desk and computer, couch, arm chair, and a separate bedroom with king size bed (comfortable and not as hard as some Chinese hotels beds.).
Well after a long flight I felt as if I could use some companionship and the manger said that there are girls available in the KTV. Cleaned up and I went to the KTV, (the manager was waiting for me in the lobby to show me the way). Thanks are due to SEAJ and others on this forum for telling me to make sure that the costs are told up front. That said, I know I paid a bit too much, but not what I would have if I went blindly into it. Got a package deal for the room (small) for about 550 RMB, which included the typical platter of fruit, snacks, (extra was brought in later at no charge) , and plenty of beer. Altogether the room cost about 1000 RMB including tips, DJ, etc. Yes, I know that is a bit too much, but I was in no mood to argue and really didn't have or know, anyplace else to go.
Girls were shown into the room, and even though I was told that the selection would not be normal CP, there was plenty to choose from. Chose two spinners (what I prefer) , both fairly young, although I didn't ask their ages. After I had chosen my two, one of the mamasans kept trying to push additional girls on me. She even brought in one, about a 6/10, who pushed one of my choices away and wanted to give me a BBBJCIM for 100 RMB. Now that sounded like a pretty good deal, but I wanted to save myself for later with my choices. Now my choices were both about 6/10 with typical Chinese bodies, but a nice booty on both both of them, B+ cups with one a bit more endowed than the other, untrimmed Bush, again one a bit bushier than the other, but neither excessive. One girl was extra sensitive and if you touched her she went into laughter and giggles. The other was more calm (probably older and more experienced) and causal. I had a real feeling about which was going to be which when we got to the room. Well, I've been wrong before and I guess I will be again.
In my room: Left KTV after a few beers (I really can't drink that much beer) , and went to the room. Put on a porno movie on my computer, sat on the couch and watched for only a few minutes. After a few minutes of DFK with both girls it was shower time. They were a bit reluctant to shower all together, so I was first and then the two of them. Woke up a couple hours later and decided the older one deserved a ride. Good multiple positions and a nice finish, but nothing like earlier with the "shy" one.
As jet lag was catching up with me by this time, I told them to both go home at about 7 am. Tab for the two 900 RMB each + 100 RMB tip. All in all about a 3000 RMB evening with two girls and KTV, drinks and food and fun. Well worth it!
So much for the first day in CP-have to call it a success! I will report on the second day later and another KTV.

Any idea where to get some foreign action in Dongguan? Closest places I know are HK and Macau but I'm hoping for some place closer by without needing to go through the hassle of crossing the border.

Day two in what looks like pussy heaven. I understand from the more experienced CP hands that the selection is down because of the upcoming CNY. Never having been here before, my only comment is "how much more could would you possibly want?" It is hard enough to choose from 2 or 300 beautiful women, it would be that much harder to choose with 2 to 500 more!
Before I get into the actual evening, a couple comments on the "Flower Street" experience. I went to the Yihao KTV under the wonderful guidance of BSD. All I can say is that it was unbelievable. We got there about 5:30 pm and the girls where lined up by the hundreds. If I have any negatives to say about "Flower Street", you feel as if you are in a super sale day at Macy's department store. I kind of felt that maybe I needed to open their mouths, check their teeth, inspect the feet (think hooves) , and wait for the auction to begin. I found this to be very true, but don't even think about it, there were at least a hundred more to choose from, so if I couldn't find one or more to satisfy me, I have a real problem! Needless to say, that was not the case. One thing I had heard about in this forum did happen however, I picked one very beautiful girl and she turned me down and would not go to the KTV room with me-but it did not hurt my ego as there were so many more to choose from. Anyway, I found my two (pick two in case one doesn't work out) , and went to the KTV room.
In the room BSD was already setting up and getting things going for the evening. This evening we were just drinking beer. The Chinese beer is 3. 2 so I get full long before I ever get buzzed. Another little place, only this time not so great.
Located in front of the Taco bakery on Chao Yang #5 street, pictures of their dishes on their door looked promising. But what was served up certainly did not meet expectations. I think its a lot to do with them trying to satisfy local tastes (in fact, half of the menu was just regular Chinese food). Not expensive with rather small dishes priced at RMB 20. 30, but don't expect to get "Singapore Hawker Centre" food.

On to my next KTV in CP. As I now expected, BSD did all the arranging for an evening at the Mayflower and it's renowned Flower Street. It may be that the total quantity of girls was down, but as a newbie, I couldn't tell or care, there are still more beautiful available women in one place than we are libel to see in a regular lifetime.
