Yesterday was one of the few warm sunny days we've had here in Kunming for sometime, so I thought I'd follow up on a tip Southgate gave me and managed to locate a 1/2 dozen or so "massage shops" clustered together. The particular establishment I tried had 7 girls available,so I carefully picked out the girl I considered the most attractive, I'd give her an 8 rating. I was surprised to find her fully shaven, not something I'd expected to see in China, particularly in Kunming. I'd rate the service which followed (CBJ & FS) a 7. When I arrived at the bus station I asked a taxi driver to take me to a hotel so, he took me to the most expensive hotel in town. I had to explain I was looking for something more reasonable and closer to where the actions were (in broken Chinese, sign and body language) then; he took me to another hotel. Later on, I discovered that it was exactly where I wanted to be. The hotel was on Xi Lu past the police station. 50 Yuan per night, good service, okay staff, the bathroom was okay and there was hot water but the room was questionable. It looked like it was not dusted for ages. Later on I discovered a better hotel, Hua Yuan Hotel on Dong Lu located conveniently where you would like to be. A newer hotel with clean large room, decent bathroom and hot water, 60 Yuan per night. I felt too lazy to make a move for my short staying but next time, I would definitely stay there.
The actions were located where they were previously reported. I say about a half-dozen shops on each road. The quality was not that impressive and the selection was average. Probably two, three sometimes five, six per shops. The price would start at 300, which I would just laugh then it would drop to 200 and when I started to leave it dropped to 150 Yuan. The first couple of shops wouldn’t budge until one caved in and gave it away for 100 Yuan in my room. After that it was like opening a floodgate and the rest followed. Once they saw me leaving with one then they knew. The first one I tried was a rushed service. She was disappointed that I didn’t take her up on her offer for bj for additional 100 so, she tried to be quick and to rush me which was okay because I needed to release quickly anyway. Just a reminder, beware of those who show too much cleavage because they don’t have the body to go with it. I guess I didn’t stay with my own words and still felt for it, again.
The next couple of ones I took from the same shop. Younger, better looking, friendlier, and better service, 100 Yuan per pop in my hotel room. There is also a row of shops on Linyuan Road that is about a couple of km or so parallel to Zhong Lu. There were about a dozed of them but the quality was not that good and they would start the price with 150. Of course, it was late at night and the selection might have been better earlier in the evening. I don’t think I could distinguish the Chinese ethnic groups much but there were definitely some different looking ones among them. There were also a few shops on the road that comes from the bus station, passed the traffic circle with the stone monument. Again the quality didn’t seem to be that good but it was better than Linyuan Road. I am now wondering if their price of 150 was for an overnight service.
I thought Si Mao was too crowded for its size but still friendly. There is only one road with major shops, stores and the crowd but I had a hard time to find something decent to eat. A taxi ride in Si Mao is wu kuai except coming from the bus station to town (only), it is shi kuai.
Is there another bus station in town because I couldn’t get a direct bus ride to other destinations in my list? I had to have a stopover somewhere in between and stay over-night. It seemed to be easier to take a faster service to Kunming and transfer from there. The scenery around Si Mao was very nice. Spectacular landscape everywhere but I guess the government would need to know that steep cuts for transportation would always fail no matter how much they could mitigate. The bus service to Kunming was very nice and comfortable and it included lunch at a mid-way town, which unfortunately I couldn’t eat the food. So, they escorted me to outside and went with me to find a place to eat. Has anyone ever been in Pu Er?
Tried to find BBS and had no luck (even around train station, as in previous report).
Golden Dragon Hotel at 575 Beijiing Lu has a Health Club, where you can order a "special message". You go thru a special door and into a nice room with a mirrored wall, king bed,and the famous big rubber ball in the corner.

If any of you find yourselves in small city of Qu Jing, (one and half hours from Kunming by train) in need of company, then I suggest you try looking at the BBS located both sides of 50. 100 Bei Lu. On Beijing Lu adjacent to the Golden Dragon Hotel. There is a gal in a long red coat to greet you outside and send you up the elevator. Yangkang Road East is a small street in between the Golden Dragon and Kai Wah Hotels. A block and a half from Beijing Road as you walk east on the left side is a little shop with a big window, Coffee and Tea Shop. On the corner of Qian Xing Lu and Ri Xin Lu, there is a just build overpass crossing to handle all the increased north south traffic to and from this rapidly developing part of town. A friend who has been here suggested I check out a certain neighborhood just west of the Kunming train station (main), which is a warren of twisty lanes, he said around 1 sq km of a locals, low-end brothel area. I am not above doing business in such places; it can be fun. He said to expect prices 50-100 RMB.
I guess he hasn't been here in awhile, because it's gone. Really gone. I mean, it's a huge fenced-in hole now, waiting to be the foundation for several large buildings. If you liked this squalid brothel area on your last visit, sorry to break the news to you. It's not coming back, at least not here. The days of the legendary ladies sitting out front knitting as a sign that they are open for business are over, at least here. It also means the trade is going more upscale, which is good and bad.
Well, there is still one brothel on the very edge of the construction site. A couple of middle-aged ladies wanted me as a customer. On the upper end of the scale, I suspect that most hotels in the train station area (or maybe everywhere in China) have some kind of sauna or VIP club that offers services at higher prices, but nicer facilities and probably classier women. Some, like Sunshine Sauna, are separate from the hotel.
I doubt the main train station neighborhood is the only place to find fun, but I'm still new here, and it seems easy and reliable there.

On the upper end of the scale, I suspect that most hotels in the train station area (or maybe everywhere in China) have some kind of sauna or VIP club that offers services at higher prices, but nicer facilities and probably classier women. Some, like Sunshine Sauna, are separate from the hotel.
I doubt the main train station neighborhood is the only place to find fun, but I'm still new here, and it seems easy and reliable there.
BTW ISG is blocked in China, as are many sites. If you want to get through, check out freedur.com. Note that I have no affiliation with them, but have tried the service and it works (for FB and twitter too).

i am staying at camellia hotel. in the off-season, i am getting a decent price - 200 rmb - for a decent room with internet and breakfast. i'd prefer to have a hotel closer to the railroad stationfor the hobby, but taxis are cheap, and this is a good place, though not fancy or modern.
i climbed xi shan today, and that left me wanting a therapeutic massage.
there is a massage parlor in the same building that i somehow assumed would be a real massage parlor offering real massages, as in therapeutic. it does not seem to have an actual name, but if you come to the camellia hotel (dongfeng rd, east of baita road), it's part of the same complex.
signs offered a full-body massage for 50. that's all i wanted. but the upsell started with the guy at the desk when i asked for it: 88 for full-body with foot massage is a very good deal, sir. but i only want full-body... and back and forth like that all the way into the room.
he brought to a locker room and wanted to help me undress (something i don't like), then a private massage room... obvious signs that this was to be about sex, not massage, and that they would be squeezing me for money every step.
i usually go to one kind of lady for a good massage, and a different provider for sex. i have made exceptions, but usually specialists are best at their chosen craft.
number 18 came in. she was a bit chubby, nice natural biggish boobs, probably around 30, about 4 in looks overall. wearing a miniskirt that exposed about 3 inches of her lower pubic area (but wearing knickers) - not sexy in her case - and a low-cut top to show off her best asset.

i have to admit that some of her massage efforts did release my sore and tired muscles, and i did not feel pain in my knees and neck like i thought i might from being beaten there. and she did make me pop, even if it was during an upsell pitch.
150 rmb for a fair body massage, an oily hand for he, and a guy who i had to fight off from helping me undress/dress insisting on a tip... well, i obviously won't go back.
i know i can get fs for 100 rmb or maybe less down by the train station (see earlier post). now if only i could find a place for just a good quality massage. i know that in china such massages often take place in a public room with others around, but i haven't seen any of those places here - they are all over in beijing.

there is a dance hall very close to where i am staying, and as i noticed some reasonably attractive women entering previously i thought i’d give it a go.

in the first one i had a normal massage for rmb50, an oily hand job was available for rmb100 but i thought that pricey, and as the girl was not very good looking i decided not to bother. after that i went to a second one, again the price for a oily hand job was quoted as rmb100, but as this girl was significantly more attractive (and as it was the second time i was quoted that price i suspect that is genuinely the going rate) i accepted. after a while i understood why it is this price (besides simple supply and demand – these places are not exactly on every street corner). what followed was a fantastic hour long slow hj, with the girl adjusting her speed to keep me in the right zone for such a long time. she also had a great personality and attitude despite being from the countryside.
these places are hj only, i confirmed this with the girls in each place.
what was slightly weird was that in both of these places i was invited to sit in the front of the shop and have a cup of tea with them before leaving. not sure if they are just being nice or they find chatting with a foreigner a novelty, but in the past i was used to putting my head down and walking away from these places as quickly as possible (feeling a bit embarrassed). sitting there in the second one on the sofa with the girls i almost felt like waiting for the next women to pass by and wave her in for some service!

look for the normal foot massage (anjiao) places. most have a private room for full body (anmo) massages. their upsell usually consists of trying to sell more expensive aromatic or therapeutic bath salts. most foot massage places charge the same for either foot (¥30) or full body (¥30) massage. you can usually do a double banger package (foot & body) for ¥60.
a massage place that does the oil massage will usually have "other" services.

Spotted a Sauna on Remin West Rd across from the entrance of Kunming Medical University, had Sauna in English in small red lettering and a women in a red gown at the entrance. Didn't go in as Saunas are off the menu at the moment but might try sometime later.
A little unusual as the entrance is directly on the street and not inside a hotel or other establishment.
If you walk in an Easterly direction from this intersection on the right hand side, you’ll come across a gaggle of touts who would like to lead you down side alleys with the promise of “xiaojie” awaiting. This is approximately opposite a large billboard for BYD automotive on the other side. You’d need to be brave, as a westerner there is no way I’d follow them…
Nearby there is a neon sign with something Hui Suo in Chinese characters in pinyin. Walk directly underneath the side and you’ll find a side entrance to the hotel, and the sauna is on the 3rd floor. You can also walk in via the hotel lobby (walk to the back, don’t take an elevator in reception).
Usual sauna setup. Good lineup of about six to choose from. I was originally quoted outrageous prices, but got down to 500. It was clear I wasn’t going to be able to go lower. Service was OK but as happens with westerners in this part of China she was not very GFE as she was concerned about size or length of timing (had to explain that American porn movies are sometimes different from reality). Presume would be no issues if you are local. Upon leaving discovered that it was 400 and 100 was a tip that the girl had decided to give herself. It cost the sauna the loss of the sale of a membership card, which I explained to the manager (which BTW is 100, fifth visit is free).
Presume the large hotel on the north east corner of above intersection also has a sauna inside as there are tricycle taxis and so on waiting outside late at night.

" Along with a bunch of other Chinese words that I didn't understand. I say, "Anmo? 200? " And after a few minutes she starts getting angry, so I just figure I'll give it to her and see what happens.
So the girl continues the half-hearted painful massage and after 5 minutes I've had it. I get up and the girl literally Jumps on my back, knees first. It hurt, but it also cracked it effectively and felt a little good, but I doubt that is what she meant.
I went to the desk and one of the girls says, "Get out! " I warn her, if I don't get my money back I will return with the police. I say it in English then point to it in my English/Chinese book. The girls say a bunch of stuff then laugh about the police like the Chinese police are a joke? (The police are never a joke, especially the Chinese Police.) A Chinese boy having his hair cut says, "The police are not like the ones in Beijing. "
So I leave, sit with the police at the station and explain that I just wanted a massage for 40 Yuan and they charged me 200. After 10 minutes a captain arrives and we go to the place. He searches the place and the three massage girls have disappeared like Magicians, but I know where they went, and I think he does too.
He orders them to give me back 160 Yuan and then speaks to them for about 5 minutes in Chinese. Not sure what he said. He asks me many times if the girl who took my money is there and I tell him No, in fact, the girls that were at the shop I hadn't ever seen before.
God Bless the Chinese Police in Kunming. I wanted to just give him the money he got for helping to get it back, but I thought it might hurt his honor. It really isn't anything to do with the money, I just hate getting ripped off. If he had asked for 1,000 Yuan to take them to the station for questioning I would have given it to him on the spot.
Long story short, Kunming has some rip-off shops. I had high hopes of making a life here, volunteering to help the poor Hill Tribe people's. Now I'm just going to leave. One bad experience can ruin the reputation of a city, and this one has ruined Kunming for me.

Your chances of getting ripped off anywhere in China increase if:
1. You are near a train station
2. You don't speak Mandarin (at least learn the phrases for different types of service - there is a thread in this forum exactly for this).
3. It is just before or during the Chinese New Year period.
I am discovering from experience that despite being a tourism oriented city there are a lot of people in Kunming with very narrow minded attitudes and absolutely zero long term thinking (not a strength in China generally anyway). However if you follow some standard rules there is a lot of fun to be had:
1. Find out prices in advance by reading the forum, if specific information is hard to find in a specific thread then look in other threads as a guide (e.g. Kunming should be no more expensive than Chengdu or Chongqing for example). Then don't accept any nonsense.
2. Agree prices in advance
3. Pay when the service is finished, never hand over cash in advance or during service. If you get nonsense like you had with the older women barging in asking for RMB200, start to get up and leave. Having not paid anything yet they will soon realise that you are no fool and get on with the service.
I had an experience in a sauna recently where I knew the price, however the silly girl (who was from Sichuan, not a local) kept insisting on absurd prices, e.g. RMB1,000 for FS. My response was to say fine, I am leaving now and only paying the sauna the entrance fee. Had I left early she would have been fined, it shut her up pretty quickly and she got on with things (for the standard price, although the service was average anyway). I made it clear to the manager on the way out that the girl's foolishness cost the sauna the sale of a membership card, not that that will make any difference.
So one experience where you didn't get what you wanted in Kunming and you are going to leave China? Good. Grow up! Chinese people seldom get what they want and most can't leave China. Repeat. Grow up.

It would cost more than 200 yuan to leave the area. Personal truama might be too much. Massage PTSD making it difficult to address the situation or treat in China.

I can't believe that you went to the police for 160 RMB. This shit happens all the time all over China. Mianbao has made some good points:
1) You should have negotiated the service in advance. Obviously, you thought that the 200 RMB was going to get you extra service. Why didn't you ask directly? Chinese is not necessary. You could have used basic hand signs and body language to get your point across.
2) You paid first.
3) If you were not happy, you should have just left when they asked you for the 200 RMB.
IMHO, you would have received a HE for the 200 RMB had you waited until the end. Normally, the places that give you half ass massages are really only HE places. 200 RMB is too much for the HE, but then you are a laowai and they thought they could get away with it.
When these sort of things happen to me, I just pay up and chalk it up to bad luck. One does not want to create trouble and risk reprucussions down the road in China. The fact that you will leave Kunming over one incident like this is totally ridiculous.

Gentlemen, I recently spent several days at the Jun Xu Bin Guan, an Army hotel at the corner of Jianshe Lou and Yi-Er-Yi Jie. It's the heart of the university district, in sight of the Normal University. Every night, around ten pm, there's a hooker call, asking if you want massage ("an mo"). Accept, and it's 300 kuai for vaginal sex in your room. The BJ is getting rare and nobody went along when I suggested anal. Not extra-special, but not a bad deal either. Even though it's nominally an Army hotel, anyone can stay there, it seems.

Detailed account of the experience:
Just got back from a 3 week visit to China, most of which was spent in Kunming. I was on a pretty short leash at first and was unable to break away till halfway into my stay, to follow up on a sauna house tip that I was given by a another occasional Kunming resident. The sauna in question is located on the North/East corner of the Qianming lu and Rixin lu intersection. They are in the middle of some major roadworks there which makes it somewhat difficult to access. I dropped by during a brief free period early on a Tuesday afternoon just to get the lay of the land. The madame running the girls was quite fortuitously amongst those in the lobby area when I arrived and managed to decipher my very limited mandarin enquiries. I told her that I was off to Dali on the night train and would be back Friday, she gave me a handwritten note in Chinese characters with mobile number and price.
I got back Friday and went over to the sauna at 6:15pm, only the counter girl and a couple of busboys were in the lobby this time, but luckily I still had the note that I'd been given and the madame soon came down to the lobby.
Typical sauna set up - change room, hot baths, showers on the ground floor. Standard foot and body massage on the 1st floor. WL rooms on the 2nd floor. About 7 or 8 girls were brought in for me to choose from, but was somewhat disappointed, that they were all 4's and 5's, also a bit hard to tell what your getting in the low level lighting. After having used the ground floor facilities and standing there in the house PJ's it's a bit hard to back out, so I made the best of it and chose the cheerful one. The following catbath, full body massage and FS was competent and in no way unenjoyable, but nothing to shout about. She let me take a quick photo before disrobing, but was again disappointed when the clothes came off with the extra weight she was carrying, a 4 in my book. Total bill 398 rmb.
As I was sitting in the lobby putting on my shoes and socks at about 8pm. I noticed a steady influx of patrons and a few younger, more attractive women coming in and heading straight up to the upper levels. Probably just ML for the 1st floor. but could be headed for the 2nd floor.
Conclusion:
My recommendation for this place os go in after 8pm. If you like discretion then this isn't the place for you, just moving from the 1st floor showers to the upper levels requires you go back through the lobby area and the size of the bill tells the people at the desk what you've been up to, assuming they don't know already. Kunming has up till now has been something of a backwater in China and you'll definitely not find the sort of quality WL that I read about in this forum as being available in places such as Donguan, Zhuhai and Shenzhen. However if the government continues to move ahead with plans to make Kunming a hub for the SE Asia trade into China then this will change, but at the moment Kunming should not be on anyone itinerary for P4P. If you do find yourself in Kunming in need of relief then try the sauna on the 7th floor of the airport hotel or the sunshine sauna in Beijing lu.

Just got back from a 3 week visit to China, most of which was spent in Kunming. I was on a pretty short leash at first and was unable to break away till halfway into my stay, to follow up on a sauna house tip that I was given by a another occasional Kunming resident. The sauna in question is located on the North/East corner of the Qianming lu and Rixin lu intersection. They are in the middle of some major roadworks there which makes it somewhat difficult to access. I dropped by during a brief free period early on a Tuesday afternoon just to get the lay of the land. The madame running the girls was quite fortuitously amongst those in the lobby area when I arrived and managed to decipher my very limited mandarin enquiries. I told her that I was off to Dali on the night train and would be back Friday, she gave me a handwritten note in Chinese characters with mobile number and price.
I got back Friday and went over to the sauna at 6:15pm, only the counter girl and a couple of busboys were in the lobby this time, but luckily I still had the note that I'd been given and the madame soon came down to the lobby.
Typical sauna set up - change room, hot baths, showers on the ground floor. Standard foot and body massage on the 1st floor. WL rooms on the 2nd floor. Ideal if you've come in to Kunming via rail from other parts of China. It's connected to an up market hotel if you want something flash or you can use one of the many cheaper hotels in the street and go into the sauna via the separate entrance without the need to enter the hotel lobby. If you look closely at the admittedly poor quality photo you'll see an elevator at the end of the short corridor which takes you up to the sauna proper. Unfortunately in my short stay in Kunming this time I didn't get a chance to sample the ladies on offer, it has the reputation for being the most expensive at 700rmb+ but may well be worth the cost.

Negotiated down to 400RMB. They showed me a line-up of about 5 girls. All

Ruili and Yuxi are too far from Kunming for whoring unless your going their on business/vacation. Ruili is a China/Burma border with a S/E asia flavour and duty free shopping.
If your going to travel outside Kunming try Qu Jing they have express trains running every 1.5 hours for a 3 hour round trip. I saw BBS located both sides of 50 - 100 Bei Lu. The girls in the BBS on the even numbered side of the street appeared to be younger and more attractive, with the ladies on the odd side older, but more enthusiastic.
There is plenty available in Kunming, but not the quality you may be used to in more populous areas of China. Just read through the old Kunming postings.

Girls are usually clean. In the saunas you shower/bathe first so you're squeaky clean. Once in the room the girls will usually use an alcohol cloth or spray to clean you off and do a BBBJ then on to covered sex in multiple positions. There are new saunas opening south of south 2 ring. I have reported on two, one at the Kunming airport and one at the corner of Ri Xin Lu and Qian Xing Lu. However, I know of three others offering full service and I am sure there are more. One which is very good is located on Ri Xin Lu about 1 km west of the airport road (Chun CHeng Lu) accross the street from the large Islamic restaurant called Alladin. It is on the fifth floor of the Guang Da hotel. Just go in the hotel and take elevator to fourh floor. Walk up the stairs and ask for massage. I had excellent service there about two weeks ago from a busty local lady. Price is 400 RMB. I invite adventurers to search for other venues and report. I have seen several 浴and 桑拿labeled establishments in this area between Dianchi Lu and the free way that goes to Yu Xi. I am sure most of these offer full service. I particularly suggest looking in the Guo Mao area just east of Chun Cheng Lu. That area has an expo center frequented by business people, many of whom practic our hobby. Get a map and you will see where I mean.

Lived up north for 4 years and had a regular girl at a nearby bath house for my last 2+ years. She was not a 10 but treated me nicely and gave excellent service since my first visit. She spoke very little E and I hardly speak Mandarin, but we managed and whenever I wanted to see her - perhaps once or twice a month - I sent her a message to her cell phone and when I arrived at the sauna, they knew I was coming and took me up to her room.
80 minutes were 180 RMB and it was certainly worth the expense. I brought her little gifts ever now and then, once a small electronic dictionary which helped us communicate ;-)

Thanks for all of this detective work and for sharing. This is the largest nationwide crackdown that I have heard of yet. The motivation of the cracker downers is, as usual, to impress the rest of the world that the government has control of morality after all. However, the centuries old tradition of polyamorous sex in this country will be victor in the end. Dont you worry, in six months, there will be more saunas than before.

I am also curious to know what places in KM and in other cities were hit. I am guessing some may be very large "secret" brothels and not the standard saunas and KTVs. I gather that from some of the photos that Fuzi has posted here and on the photo gallery. In one photo, there are over one hundred police outside of an establishment as if they were ready to invade Japan. IN others as many as 30 girls are seen sitting on the floor covering their faces. It should be added that this means a 45 mins flight plus whatever time it takes for getting to and from the airport, check-in, etc. If done by bus it used to be some 8-10 hours.
Xishuangbanna is the Thailand of China but not really comparable with Thailand. Jinghong is a nice little city which partly caters to foreign tourists. 2 years ago there was a red light district (it might still be there) but as often in China their clientèle were locals and perhaps Chinese tourists. I did not attract any attention and also didn't feel like venturing in there. If you speak Chinese it is probably easier.
For locals telling you that this and that is not safe, I would like to say that Chinese are over-cautious if not paranoid about safety or the lack of it. I would not worry too much unless you get drunk and/or into a fight. It is more likely that you will get cheated price-wise and service might be not up to your expectation.
But I would not go to Jinghong for sex. Too far, too dodgy and just not worth it.

About 2 weeks ago, it was reported that there had been p4p crackdowns in KM and other cities. Photos were posted of girls being arrested, covering their faces in shame and being dragged out of saunas by their hair. The places I go to are all south of the south second ring, between the airport and Dian Chi Lu. For example the hotel across the street from Yi Tian Yuan restaurant on Ri Xin Lu is one. The sauna and floor 5 is still open. The place on the corner of Ri Xin Lu and Qian Xing Lu is also still open (see prior post for addres). The place on Guang Fu Lu (lan Ping hotel) near Dianchi Lu is open but that is where they were nervous and I only got a foot massage.

I have recently heard and also read it on a couple of websites about thieves on long-distance sleeper buses to and from Kunming. Apparently, it has been happening while the passenger(s) is sleep and the thieves cut into bags, carry-on, or belt-bag to take the cash. I personally know of one foreigner who became a victim when he was sleep had his Chinese money taken but not his foreign currency or his passport. He woke up and by the time he realized what had happened the thieves got off the bus in the middle of nowhere. I am not sure to what extent this is happening but have not read or seen any such news for other parts of China.
If possible avoid sleeper buses for now or be extra vigilant when taking one. Knowing that, what would be a good way to go to Mangshi or Ruili on bus from Kunming. I know there used to be one daily service leaving Kunming in mid afternoon arriving in Ruili about 13 hours later. But then again, that would be a sleeper bus perhaps; there could be a stopover in Jianshui, would that be possible? Does anyone know which long-distance bus station in Kunming would service Ruili (or Mangshi)? The ticket price of the Yunnan regional flights from the Kunming Airport were raised significantly a few months ago. I believe now it is 1,000 Yuan for one-way plane ticket to Mangshi. My own research says things could be much more affordable in Ruili.
AS, any recommendation for where to stay in Qu Jing? The long-distance bust station for Qu Jing would be the North Bus Station ( Longtou Lu) and the local bus # 182 would get you there at the last stop. Qu Jing is the second largest city (population) in Yunnan after Kunming so; just one street of shops even on both sides may not be enough to feed the whole city. There could be other local locations and/or alternatives there to be explored.
One other thing, you should never pay any extra fee for your luggage when taking a long distance bus and that is for carry on or checked in. If anyone approached you and demanded money for your checked-in luggage it would be a fraud and you could turn in the person to the authorities. I am not a club or sauna goer so I cannot comment on that but I know four hundred is too much in Kunming, is that for just one shot! I know the more you work on it the better it gets. I discovered that the city of Si Mao is now called Pu’er. Yuxi is good, Mengzi is hit and miss and there have been raids, and if you stumbled in Yuanyang on your way you could ask for it. Jinghong is known for having Chinese ethnic minorities in different shops if that is not your style then it is not a destination.
Decided to adventurous and during the crack down and visited an oldie but goodie, Jinlong Sunshine sauna.
First, the lowdown: This place is getting a little rundown, but it does have all the standard facilities. You go in, tell them you want a sauna and they'll lead you to the lockers. After disrobing, off to the showers and then a nice soak in the sauna. I arrived at 7:00pm just when they were doing their shift change so the attendants weren't all that attentative. Relaxed in the lounge for a few minutes before the manager came over to ask if I want a massage. Here is the key for first-time visitors, tell the manager that your friend recommended this place and the price is 400RMB. The manager will lead you out of the lounge and to the hall. Where there is a secret door hidden in the mirrors. Once in the room, you are given a lineup, pick your girl, do your thing and leave. Go to the lobby when you are ready, get your shoes and pay.
The service: The girls in my opinion were all well above 7s, I would almost say 8s. Standard routine but my girl was eager to please which made for an enjoyable experience, afterwards she hosed me down and then had a chat before getting up to leave. Very friendly girl.
Location: Beijing road north of the Kunming station on your right hand side if you are coming from the station. The sauna is part of the Jinlong hotel but there is a separate elevator entrance right before you get to the intersection. I would recommend you take this entrance for the convenience and privacy. The hotel entrance is far too complicated.

As far as I can see, saunas are back to normal. I frequent saunas south of the second ring. I enjoy the sauna experience even without the sex so I have continued to go to soak in the tubs, get massaged, eat dinner, exercise on the treadmill and occasionally get laid in a full service private room.
Two months ago after the summer crackdown signs appeared in all saunas, both those that provide "special service" and those that do not. The signs state that it is illegal to take drugs"xi du", sell sex "mai yin" or monger "piao chang". However, all the places with the signs that used to "mai yin" still "mai yin". One place on Cheng Fu Lu near Dianchi Lu on the third floor of a hotel has loads of young girls coming to work there to "mai yin" at about 6 PM in the evening. Another on the corner of Ri Xin Lu and Qian Xing Lu which I have reported on before provided a 19 year old sweetie to me two days ago. So I am happily "piao changing" again without any concerns.

The train station mamasans, on the east end aren't worth the trouble and effort. They hustle you and upsell you and the girl I got stuck with wasn't worth the 400 I wound up being hustled for. I was in Jing Hong recently, at a cheap hotel on Manting Lu. Lots of chickens available, via the concierge, although not all of the highest quality. The red light district formerly found at the intersection of Manting and Manzheng (south of the wat) is gone, although the other restaurants are still there. It's still a good place for shaokao. I saw a couple of enclosed "massage" places where I suspect one could get FS, but didn't try them.
Other people tell me that most of the hookers have moved to Mengla, to service road construction workers, but I didn't go look.

Anyone with any recent experiences in Yuxi or Anning? Or any neighboring towns?
Thought I'd share some saunas in western Kunming.
1. Dynasty Hotel sauna on Ke Yi Road (&31185; &21307; &36335; &65289;
There's a sauna on (I think) the 4th or 5th floor of the hotel. This place holds itself out as a legit sauna but they do provide FS. You have to ask one of the male managers dressed in a suit (don't bother asking any of the other staff, they'll just say no).
Best thing to do is to get one of these guys cell no's. (I keep forgetting to) They're a bit nervous because they may have been raided before.
Price is a lot higher than other saunas, RMB 580 for one shot during a 1. 5hr service time. However, the quality of service is pretty good. Inside the room, they have a wet massage area where you lie down and the girl washes you from head to toe. Then she gives you a titty rub of your back and rubs her pussy up and down your calves.
They also put on crotchless pantyhose (if you so desire) for a different flavour.
Other aspects of service are standard: fire and ice BBJ, AR, FS.

The sauna is quite old and run down. Rooms are basic with just a mattress on the floor. However, it's clean enough.
They have more girls on offer (7-8) and these girls seem younger and prettier. Service is less sophisticated too, standard BJ (CBJ or BBBJ) depending on the girl and FS.

If any of you guys have been to Gan Lan Shu (&27204; &27012; &26641. Sauna near the East Bus Station, in my humble opinion, Qian Xi trumps it by far in terms of facilities and food. However, Gan Lan still trumps Qian Xi in terms of the hottness of the all the female staff who work there (whether it be customer service, foot massage, body massage).
Gan Lan doesn't offer FS whereas Qian Xi does. I'm guessing that like it's sister sauna, Feng Jing Xian, depending on the maseusse you get, they may offer you a HJ.
Being CNY, there were only 3 FS girls working and 2 of them were busy, so I went with the only available girl.
I think her number was 151, a tall, chubby girl from Chong Qing (although given her build, she may very well come from up north).

Recently I stumbled across the sauna at Tian Heng the Hotel (on the Nan Ping Jie end of Qing Nian Road) and tried out their FS.
Prices aren't cheap downtown. They offer 2 levels of girls: RMB 880 and RMB 1000. I was told by the manager that the content of their service is the same, it's just that the RMB 1000 girls are taller, model types. So I went with the RMB 880 option.

I was out on a reconnaissance mission checking on information from the forum for later in the week since I was in the neighborhood. The New Nanjing Hotel is on Dongfeng Xi Lu just a bit north of Renmin Zhong Lu on the west side. The hotel shares a plaza / parking lot with the Nanjing Hotel and numerous other businesses. The New Nanjing Hotel is very nice and to the right of the entrance is a seemingly luxurious KTV or so I assume. All Chinese characters but no big "KTV" letters. There are glass doors and I could look in to see lineups of beauties waiting for customers. I am solo with minimal Chinese language skills so I will not be checking this place out. I must assume that the prices are up there. So whomever has a business account, this looks like a nice place from the outside.
On the other side of the plaza to the right of the Nanjing Hotel (not New) is a brightly lit and loud place called SOS8 Club. I only mention it because some foxy young ladies dressed to impress were on their way in as I explored the plaza. Again, I am old with no game or language skills so I will leave it to you younger guys to check it out.

In the New Nanjing Hotel plaza to the far left as you face the hotel. This hotel is on Dongfeng Xi Lu north of Renmin Zhong Lu. The big sign says Nanjing Supreme Water Remit in english. Went here based on previous reports in the forum, thanks bros. The business card of the hotel says: Guan Nan of Daguan Kunming Hotel. It is just off of RiXin Lu south of the where the two creeks intersect Rixin Lu. There is an Islam restaurant, Alladin on the corner, just go across the street and a bit north. The elevator goes to the 4th floor and I look down the hallway both ways and all I see is hotel rooms. Oh good, there is a stairwell leading up one more floor and this is where the sauna is. Older place, I had to wait longer than normal for hot water from the shower; there is a big pool for soaking. Into a room with no bathroom and shortly there is a lineup of about 8. A few I could pick so nice to not just be given one at a time. The one I picked had big eyes and was 25 from Sichuan. Body slide on the bed, cat bath, AR and BBBJ with her eyes on you the whole time. The positions I liked and of course, the normal fake moans.
There is a foot massage room where you can rest before and / or after the deed with the TV screen on the wall. Settled at the front desk. 400rmb.

Again checking out a sauna from previous reports, thanks. There is an office building on the southwest corner. An ICBC Bank on the XiYuan side and Bank of China on the DianXi side. But no apparent way to get upstairs. Thoroughly befuddled but as I walk down XiYuan Lu, there is a guard and a driveway. I enter and it is the courtyard / parking lot of the office building and residential quarter. So I walk past families to where I see a sign indicating 24 hours. There it is, an entrance to the rest of the building and I take the elevator to the 4th floor. There are english words on their big sign, Sauna & Health Center.
The facilities are not old, they are antiquated! When you enter the shower area, the guy flips a switch (probably both turns on the lights and hot water. Into the rest area then led to a smallish room with a bed on the floor and a real old little tv. The first gal on offer is a pork chop but the second is quite acceptable fortunately. A 26 why / o Yunnan gal gives a fair massage, body slide, AR, CBJ and the deed. I am pleasantly surprised by the good service.
328rmb on the way out. If you are used to Shanghai saunas this may not be the place for you. If you are looking for a good value, jackpot.

This is off the main subject but I can not monger every night. The place I return to for my veggie footie is He Ri Jun Zu Liao. It is just a few doors east of Beijing Lu on Yong An Lu; this is in the area a few blocks north of the south railway station. I think it is a value at 78rmb for 90 minutes though I know there are plenty of little hole in the wall places for less. There are private rooms, you get the normal bit of fruit and tea and have a tv. Not all of the gals are cuties but there are some (all are friendly) and the massage is just to my liking. Here you get a walk on the back so hope you don't get a big boned gal. Last time I was appointed a guy and I just asked to switch, no problem. I dislike the places with the sofas in a big room because invariably someone that smokes gets placed near me.

Easy to find. 50 Ke Yi Lu just west of the 2nd Ring Road. 5th floor and when I was taking off shoes, a line up of gals walks through the reception area with smocks on over their mini dresses. Yuxi is completely dry. All shops are gone and you have to find it through pimps. Some hotels will allow the laboans to come around and approach you and some won't or wouldn't have any contact on borad. I had a hard time making a reliable connection; it could be hit and miss. I was told three hundred but I did not try.
In Kunming, I was approached by pimps in the evening at the usual corners but still too much crowd around to get into details. Four hunderd but it sounded shaky and probably could have been lowered. I think I had noticed a couple of the girls around those areas from earlier in the afternoon, and they looked doable.
I heard Lijiang is a great place for man, anyone has been there and can share some info?

Just been to Dali and confirmed that the 'pink shops' are still around, just more out of sight. If you go down Yuer lu to where the biggest shop was, on the rounded corner, just go left 20m into that alley and it's right there. RMB200 a pop. The girl takes you to a house another 20m down the alley. Other much smaller shops are in the alley on the other side of Yuer (going south) , you walk along and will see the telltale pink lights. They each just have 2-5 girls while the big one had about a dozen when I was there. No stunners but friendly and willing.

Back in Kunming, China after a more than 2 year absence.
As soon as I could get away, I went around to the BBS in Xi Yuan Lu, near the corner of Danxia Lu, that I had frequented in the past to see if there where any fresh recruits.

Got off the train last night and decided to go for a walk through the nearby BBS area in Yongping Lu. As for BBS's my advise is forget it, if you can find one it will be dirty and dangerous.

It is just off of RiXin Lu south of the where the two creeks intersect Rixin Lu. There is an Islam restaurant, Alladin on the corner, just go across the street and a bit north. The elevator goes to the 4th floor and I look down the hallway both ways and all I see is hotel rooms. Oh good, there is a stairwell leading up one more floor and this is where the sauna is. Older place, I had to wait longer than normal for hot water from the shower; there is a big pool for soaking. Into a room with no bathroom and shortly there is a lineup of about 8. I'm due to fly back to oz in less than 2 weeks and when I found I had some free time last Thursday night (20th) , decided to check out a different establishment to the usual while I still had an opportunity.
I arrived at the the Guan Hotel at 8:15pm. It is located across the road from the Alladin Restaurant which is located at the intersection of Rixin East Lu and Shili Long Lu. The hotel fronts onto the smaller road, I took few pictures for those who want to check it out.
The hotel looks as though someone spent a lot of money building it originally, but hasn't kept up the maintenance and it is starting to look a bit run down. The single elevator for example was out of order when I visited and I had to walk the up to the sauna on the 5th floor. No great hardship, but not a good introduction.
No one at the sauna reception speaks a word of english, so had to assume they knew what I was there for. I was given some thongs to change into and walked to a change room. I could see what appeared to be a sauna set-up further on and wanted to have a quick look before getting undressed. I stuck my head around the corner and saw 5 or so Chinese attendants standing in a hot water area (showers, bathing areas, etc.) though it was a bit hard to see, since it was otherwise deserted and the lights had not been turned on.
There where no other patrons, the place had a somewhat grotty feel and I wasn't particularly comfortable getting undressed while 10 or so Chinese guys looked on, so listened to my gut and walked.
As I walked back to the reception area and put my shoes back on the male attendant is yammering away, no doubt trying to sell me on the place, but even if I had had some idea what he was saying, I wouldn't have stayed.
Conclusion:
This place may have been good back in the day, but appears to be past it's use by date.

I had my first trip to Kunming in Autumn 2012 when I was still very new to China. I was, however, aware of what is available in many MP and quite taken aback on arrival at the Kunming Grand Park Hotel to find the Spa right next door to the main entrance and pretty much screaming "GET IT HERE BIG BOY", being named as it is "TOUCH SPA" (yes, all in capitals).
I did want a massage though and went in to find out the prices and closing times (3am IIRC). I was greeted by a masseuse who, perhaps uncharitably, looked to be around 40 and was dressed in a short leather crop top and short leather miniskirt, midriff exposed. Made me feel uncomfortable on several levels and I left, but returned later for the massage. Massage was good, I was entirely clothed (bar socks and shoes!) and the masseuse was normally dressed. The room was dimly lit but clean and had a modern feel to it. There was a shower and deep tub in the room, and two massage tables (not beds). I chatted to the masseuse, who told me she was married, and then surprised me considerably when she asked in English whether I wanted "sex massage". She didn't seem the type and we were both fully dressed. I said no, but morbid curiosity got the better of me and I asked how much. And she left the room, returning with the leather-clad, leather faced lady from earlier.

Walking down beichen ave near beijing road at 3am I saw a small hotel / spa / massage deal from across the road with a couple phone numbers on a big sign. I called the number for the massage part and asked if I can get service. The guy who didn't answer but called me back two minutes later said yes they aren't closed, do I need massage? The latest crackdown on prostitution that started in Dongguan at the beginning of the year seems to be on a different level than crackdowns past. I was turned away at several Kunming saunas, told they will not admit foreigners. I finally found one that would, but HJ and covered BJ are the maximum on offer. About 300 rmb, plus entrance fees, so over 400 total. Seems the days of multiple venues and easy access may truly be gone. Found a few call cards in a franchise motel but would be too nervous to call, given the noticeable police presence and many stories of busts and frequent checks. This is an old FR but I joined this site this week so thought of putting this up for friends passing by Kunming.
I had a 8 hour layover and had planned to stay at a hotel near the airport.
After a lot of effort I found my way to the "Airport Hotel". There is a free bus service that will take you there. It is one of the buses dropping the airport staff to various places round the airport.
One of the stops is the Hotel, you should not miss it.
Cost of Room: 500-600 RMB.
The hotel accepts only local Credit Cards and the exchange rate sucks, so better to get your RMB at the airport, even better would be from one of the Bangladeshi guys at the airport offering cheap hotel and free transfer.
You will find a few in the arrival hall.
The hotel has a foot massage parlour at the basement. Went there to figure things out.

So I was in Kunming for a couple days last week, and I was looking for some action.

I stayed in Lijiang Old Town for a few nights on a package tour. There was nothing to be found in the Old Town, but Bar Street is quite lively and possibly freebies are available there.
One evening my tour had a optional 'Cultural' (AKA Expensive) event. I decided to opt out of this and go for a wander. I left the Old Town by the south west gate and turned right onto Changshui Road then right again into Minzhu road. I saw an unnamed alley on the left, about 200 m from the junction. This led to a network of alleys that connected Changshui Road, Minzhu Road and Jinkai Street. Most were well lit, but some were a bit dark. There were about a dozen girls at various places in these alleys. I found a good looking girl, in her early thirties, who asked for 200 Y for full service. We headed off to her nearby apartment. This was clean, but a bit untidy.

Wow, it's been a couple of years since the last post on here.
Kunming seems to have gone through a bit of a purge in the past year. It seems the dance halls have all closed since last December. They were having a bit of trouble at the end of last year & some started keeping their lights on, some were closed for a month then reopened, but all of them seem to be closed for good now. I asked some e-bike drivers outside the old dance halls at and. Railway station & they said the only ones left but they were "Bu Hao Wan" - (no fun!) - for old people who actually wanted to dance.
Many saunas seem to have closed.
Anyone have any good news for this city?

It would be advised not to plan on a lay-over or stop-over at Baoshan. 95% of the hotels would not accept anyone without a Chinese ID, therefore all your traveling documents of passport, visa, permit, etc. Would not have any values. The only hotels that could accept foreigners would be six-star or perhaps five-star with all the luxury amenities that you may need at €140-€200 per night, comes with Chinese breakfast buffet. . And there is nothing there for us anyway.
I will have a 12 hour layover at Kunming later this month. Has it gone dry? Any Massage place with FS. Steetwalker? Anyone have any recent info on Kunming mongering scene?
