Wuhan is not a very fun city, but here is what I found without looking at all.

Junyi Hotel ¾ýÒæ±ö¹Ý in Hankou on Qiao kou lu ÇÅ¿Ú· has everything a guy could want. The hotel's rooms are not too expensive (I paid 148 after the discount). There is KTV, Sauna, and a barbershop on the premises. There are SW on the street outside, as well as a bunch of nicer restaurants.

I was there two times. Once for my first two nights in Wuhan, and then again right before I left town. The first night I wanted a massage. The Sauna looked like it would be cheaper, so I went in. The girl they brought was thin and sexy, like I like. So, when she asked for 500, I gave in. She also offered another girl for 800. Service was fine, but I was not really in the mood.

The other time I just called the barbershop for a massage in my room. The girl they sent up was sort of plumpy (but for a chinese girl that doesn't mean much... she was not fat). Anyway, her massage was very effective and when she said 500, I said 300 and she said ok.

300 is what the taxi drver told me was the going rate. I didn't search too much, but like all cities in china, there are a lot of opportunities.

By the way, I am white, but speak chinese. I am pretty sure that the girls there do not speak any English.

The weather was cold and very wet. Like New York at this time of year.

Asked about girls from som of the hotel staff and was told nothing in hotel. Maybe they could call someone but the hotel management did not approve.

If the weather had been better I may have done the stroll to see for myself.

Obviously a 5 star is not the place. next time I will stay in a lower hotel and hope for the best. Off to Hong Kong.

Next stop Wuham, Hubei Province 10-22-03. Sorry I'm so late posting this.

Stayed at the Holiday Inn Riverside. This is another very nice, newer, four star hotel but again it?s far from the main part of town.

Another long day and did not get to the hotel tell 11:00 PM. Everyone was tired so I struck out on my own. Walked out of the hotel and down to the street and looked around but couldn?t see any activity at all. This place was dead, like I said it was far from the main part of town. I went back to the hotel and tried to inquire from the doorman about where to go but he did not speak English. While talking to him the girl at the front counter saw I was having trouble and came over to help. Yea right, I?m going to ask her where to go to get laid. I told her I was looking for a nightclub. She wrote down something and walked me outside to get a cab. She told the driver where I wanted to go and off we went.

Wuhan is not a pleasant city to visit or work in. It's not a tourist area. The air has a lot of soot and dust from industry and road construction, and walking around briskly made my lungs hurt after awhile. When I was there in late May, it was upper 20'sC in the evening and no breeze, so the air was thick. I'm told that it can rise to about 41C in the summer, and is called "The Oven".

SIGHTS: The main attraction is six-storey "Yellow Crane Tower". I did not see it, but colleagues said it is on par with any one of the six or more towers you'll find in Hangzhou, and Hangzhou is much more pleasant and clean. Wuhan's East Lake is just a lake, and it costs money to walk around it.

FOOD: I had some very good inexpensive (20RMB with beer) meals with my Chinese and Chinese-American colleauges, but the menus were entirely in Chinese. If you don't read Chinese, ask for specific dishes with the help of the guidebook, eat in the hotel, or find one of those huge cafeteria places where you can point at what you want.

PUNTER OPTIONS: I'm sure it can be found all over if you speak Chinese. Here's what I found without knowing a shread of Chinese:

1. I found an SW outside Shangri-la on Jian She Da Dao just outside the Shangri-la who would go to my room for 300RMB, if I read her fingers correctly. I don't know what was on offer but I assume a quick FS and she leaves. She was maybe late 20s and a 6. I did not try her as I was looking for a body massage (only) before bed; I did find that around the corner for 30RMB 1 hour. It wasn't great, but helped me relax. I did not see any SW there the next evening.

2. I found what appeared to be a locals’ brothel area near Shangri-la Hotel, less than 10 minutes away when walking. Exit Shangri-la on the Jian She Da Dao side and turn left. At the first side street turn left – you’ll see an island forcing turns, and tall power line towers along this street. At the T, turn right and stay on right side. In a short while you’ll see a number of shops with girls sitting on couches making eye contact, except for the bored ones. They were open for business as I walked by at 20.25.

When I was walking by one at 22.30 (this time without colleagues ;-) ), a girl pounded on the door frame to get my attention. She was probably 20 yo and a 5 in appearance, grinning in a naughty way. She made an offer for 300RMB. I'm guessing it would be a quick FS in a somewhat squalid room.

Insomnia ruled, so around 5AM I went back to see about morning wood, but they were closed tight with chastity belts in place (the storefronts, I mean).

This was a local's place, but then there are very few Western visitors in Wuhan.

3. I found another probable brothel strip while taking a very long walk from Shangri-la to Wuhan Square using an out-of-the-way route. I don’t have good maps to confirm this, and I did not see street signs, but from the map I'm pretty sure it was on Jie Fang Da Dao (my friends said it meant “Liberation Road” which fits). It was on the side nearest Shangri-la, about a quarter mile past Xiang Jian Road as you walk towards Tai Bei Lu, but I'm guessing on distance. There were 6-12 storefronts with girls sitting on couches apparently waiting for customers, though I did not inquire since I was with work colleagues. Time was about 21.15.

4. Following up ReallyaNiceGuy’s report on Zhang Liao Mei, I called her to ask her to visit my hotel, using Chinese I pieced together to to ask the question and tell her were I was, and to suggest a time:

Wo men ke yi zai jiu dian jian mian (can you meet me at my hotel)
Shan ger li la luguan (Shangri-la hotel)
(ren)fang yi qi san si (room number 1734)
jiu dian san shi fen (9:30)

I know she understood, but I did not understand her answer. I asked a Chinese resident to call for me and translate, and he said she was busy until after midnight. Later a Singapore-Chinese friend called her for me and I learned that she wanted 1000 RMB to visit the hotel but would come after midnight. ReallyaNiceGuy said he paid 500RMB for “eat-in” service, but she would not budge on the price, so I passed on the offer. Possibly if I went to where she was working I could have got a better "eat-in" rate.

No action in hotel. The bar in the lobby is wide open with no area for romance.

I had no action in or around the hotel. Was only there one night before going back to KMG where I have more than ample enjoyment.

I will be back in Wuhan sometime during week of Sept. 22. I plan on staying at Lake View Garden Hotel. I am told this is a 4 star on the edge of the lake.

A brief report on my fun in Wuhan. I stayed at the Yangste Hotel; didn't have time to do much in the way of recon around the area.

The last night I was there, my local contact took me to a street with a cluster of KTVs (Wuhan Gate or Gateway, IIRC). The girls there are just "singers" 500 RMB covered drinks for three guys and two girls (and their fee) for 3-4 hours.

Was in Wuhan for an overnight trip a short while ago. Got in town late at night and so had no time to venture out but on the way to the hotel did notice a lot of BBS along the streets. There are not many foreigners in Wuhan, and not many Chinese people here speak English. I did visit the area around Hongshan Square in Wuchang last week during the daylight hours, trying to find a congenial sauna in one of the many hotels there. The smaller hotels apparently do not have much, but one large hotel near the square offers excellent facilities. The menu of choices is prominently displayed. They list a VIP room at 368 RMB for 90 minutes, but it was not available. I chose a lesser option, but made it clear I had more in mind than just a massage. After entering the designated room, an 18-year-old young lady, slender with small breasts, joined me. She was very sweet, close to a GFE. Last evening around 9:00 I walked around Jiefang Dadao in Hankou not far south of the Number Two Yangtze (Changjiang) Bridge, seeing more than a dozen clustered in this area. This cheap Hanghai Binguan was listed in Lonely Planet. Room was clean and staff were friendly and polite. 125rmb for a single with bath. Convenient to Wuchang Station but not a nice area.

There are also several pink light barbershops on the far side of the road.

This afternoon about 4:00 I again visited the BBS area in Hankou on Jiefang Dadao a few hundred yards south of Huangpu Dajie, the road leading to Changjiang Bridge Number 2. Walking north on the west side of Jiefang Dadao, I was attracted to the second BBS I encountered and stepped inside. Two girls were sitting near the door and ushered me inside. Since I had previously scouted this area, the characteristic pinks lights visible at night were not necessary to guide me. Prices are a bit cheaper in Wuhan than most other cities.

I went to Wuhan this past week and stayed at the Novotel Hotel. I didn't get much information from this baord about opportunities there, so I had collage girl I know that's visiting her parents for the Chinese New Year vacation. I usually see her in Guangzhou, where I live.

But, for future visits, if anyone stays in or near the Novotel, if you walk out the front door, turn right, go the the first traffic light (about 150 feet away), and turn left, there are at least 6 or 7 BBS places on both sides of the street. On a recent trip to Wuhan, I stayed at the Holiday Inn. The Holiday is reasonably priced ($50 US) and has a massage parlor in the hotel, but not associated with the hotel. Hence, I guess you can’t ***** if you get poor service. I tried the in-room massage option for 430 RMB, and of course the girl does her best to sell additional services. I insisted that I would not pay more than 300 RMB in Wuhan, so I had to settle for a massage with an oil HJ. And, since the massage parlor is not associated with the Holiday Inn, I didn’t bother to ***** regarding the poor service.

The following night, I met a free-lancer in the lobby and had a great time for 350 RMB. Attractive, nice body, and very experienced in her trade, BBBJ and CFS. I booked it thru Ctrip.com, so it was about 558 yuan a night at this five star joint. Turns out, that is how much the hotel sauna charges for FS as well. Many thanks to Didipod for the informative post. It should surprise no one that a sister city of Wuhan is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. (I intend no slight to all Pittsburgh natives.) At the same time, I do feel a need to come to the defense of my adopted city. There are good times to be had in Wuhan.

Recently on an afternoon I had occasion to visit a cluster of BBS in Wuchang that lies about 100 meters north of the intersection of Zhuo Dao Quan Bei Lu and Luo Yu Road. The cluster of three BBS sits on the west side of Zhuo Dao Quan Bei Lu facing the East Lake. The northernmost of the three had three or four fairly unattractive young ladies, and the asking price was 300 RMB (no BJ). After that non-starter I almost called it a day, but a colleague was accompanying me. He was eager to have another try, so went to the middle of the three. It was meant in a facetious tone. A lot of Chinese people will tell me some price that is 4 or 5 times the local price, as if I don't have sense enough to ask a taxi driver the prices. (Taxi drivers are good for that. They seem to know the price of sex everywhere and at every price level.)

If there's a grimier, grittier city, with even ruder people than Wuhan in China, I don't want to see it. But I'd accept nominations for other cities in this class. Nevertheless, some expats I've spoken to who've actually lived there for a spell seem to like it. But for me, it has all the charm of East St. Louis, Detroit, and Newark combined. It's officially my 193rd favorite city, right behind Tirane, Albania and Mogadishu.

I had accepted an invitation to come up and speak to a bunch of doc's about tropical disease management; silly me for failing to look into this city first.

I can confirm, however, that the Hunan Square area of Wuchang is a hopping place. It's ringed by KTV establishments, especially close to the NE side, near the Hongshan hotel, extending across the north side of the square.

On the NW side you have the White Rose, which is actually a nice place; just outside the gate of the cordon sanitaire for the White Rose is a 300m strip of greenery running south.

It is this strip where can be found at least a reinforced company-sized unit of incredibly aggressive streetwalkers, operating in 3-woman fire teams. Alas, they all appear to be rather long-in-the-tooth, some actually pushing forty. A MILF experience every once in a great while is fine, but not if Mom looks as if she's been pounding rivets at Wuhan Steelworks all day.

Crossing the boulevard to the square, -which is actually a very nice public park area, with thousands thronging after dark, I copped a squat to sit and watch. Alackday and fuck my luck, but a platoon of these women braved 6 lanes of busy traffic to rush over and shell me with their commercial offerings.

As I've pointed out in a previous post, I am a large black man, built on the George Foreman plan. I can assure you that this did nothing to deter ANY of these women from pressing their case. But naturally possessed of a shyness bordering on reticence, and lacking the requisite 'Dutch courage', I did not take these women up on any proposal. This caused them to make counter-offers that were ridiculous in the extreme. Again, I must emphasize the age & lack of looks of all of these girls.

Average low offer for commercial services of all types, was 100 short-time and 300 overnight. I speak not a lick of Mandarin, but these motivated sellers were able to make the terms clearly understandable to even the village idiot.

Once that harassment was over, -which I must mention was gleefully observed by hundreds of Wuhanians out for a stroll, I was finally left alone; the women clearly had bigger fish to fry. I will point out that none of the 'civilians' lifted a finger to help, to shame the women back across the street and into the bushes. Nope, I was apparently rich entertainment value. I had hoped some old bag, -a loyal party member, would run up and tell the girls to go back to their work units and do self criticism, or something like that. Nothing doing, if anything, the crowd called out with encouragement for the girls, English tips, what-have-you.

Continuing to Surveill, I noticed a bike lane running parallel on that side of the street. Chinese in cars were stopping to look over the wares, make their selection, and depart. The lesson for me here is that there is a slice of the male population in Wuhan preferring their meat well-seasoned, so-to-speak.

Adding local color to the scene were a number of obvious pimp/protector types hanging around; the command & staff element, no doubt. I cannot imagine that this would be a job I'd even think about trying out for.

Still, Hunan square in Wuchang is hopping. It's worth a look at night, before the weather turns cold, I suppose.

It's officially my 193rd favorite city, right behind Tirane, Albania and Mogadishu.Placing it two slots away from Mogadishu is a little harsh. I have not been to Wuhan, but have met a few travellers from there, not horrid people, just regular Chinese interior folks. A friend passed through Wuhan and said it was quite beautiful and relaxing.

Sorry to hear you got turned into public local entertainment for a whirl. But sadly that will be the case as a big black man walking around in some Chinese cities, especially interior ones. I doubt I am enlightening you on that point since you have to live it.

But honestly, you didn't walk around Wuhan watching your back everytime a man you walked by moved or hear rifle shots goe off and wonder if stray AK-47 fire is coming your way or wonder if this car screeching by is going to stop and bunch of guys come out and toss you inside or opening fire on you while your watching soccer in bar (Mogadishu).

I did enjoy reading your report. Just debating your ranking. Pretty sure it's just hyperbole, but still, two slots away from Mogadishu is harsh.

While we did not partake of the available servce providers in this bar, and thus did not get prices,we hung out in and outside of the bar long enough to confirm that it is definetely monger friendly. Quality was quite acceptable IMHO. Not 5 star Dongguan KTV model types but way above the long in the tooth SW reported by Burma Bob which I can confirm we have seen there on many occasions.

As I now have continuous biz trips to this area of Wuchang, I will try to get out, scout the action and post some reports. Wuhan is definitely not monger paradise, but I have not found it as bad as Burma Bob reports. Been there about 6 times over the past year and been to some KTV's and saunas where the service is acceptable but not great so did not post. Again not a DG experince but better than what I have experiences in many smaller China cities

Was in Wuhan last week for business and got the opportunity to finally checkout the scene a little. Stayed in the New Seasky Hotel, a newer 1-year-old 3 star hotel in Wuchang near Wuhan University and Eastlake. Got a 1-bedroom suite for Rmb350 so we could have business meetings during the day and my colleague got a regular room for Rmb250. The NSH hotel is a short 5-minute walk to the Square that we checked out our first night to see the action in the Bar Under The Square. Got there around 9 p. M. On a Monday night. Unfortunately, there was a flower festival on the square with families and couples all about and the Bar was closed with a sign that said in Chinese "Temporarily Closed. " I guess the idea of hotties coming and going out of the bar with customers with families all about wasn't such a good idea to the local powers! Damn, the girls in the Bar had looked so hot during our last trip there about 2 months ago.

Not wanting to go back to our rooms empty handed, we headed just over the Yangtse River (about a 15 minute cab ride for under rmb20) to the Soho Bar, which is supposed to be the new hot spot for finding semi-pros and freebies. Arrived around 10: 30 pm. The place was packed, music was loud and hotties all over the place. We could even check them out outside the Bar as many of them we're coming out to talk on their cell phones. Unfortunately, the place was so packed we could not get a seat. Definitely will go back to check this place out our next trip, but we were told we will need to arrive before 9 p. M. To get a seat.

So off we went across the street to the strip of bars that run along the side of the park right next to the Yangtse River. Went in to the first one on the left hand side across the street from Soho Bar and the place was also hopping. Literally packed with just the overflow crowd from Soho. Sat down to order drinks and while we were deciding whether to just order a round of beers at about rmb30 per beer or take the 2 six packs special at Rmb 200, a cute slender Chinese girl with legs long enough to qualify for "ladders to heaven" hops onto the mini stage, more like a square stone bench, and proceeds to bump, grind and thrust her tush into our faces. Definitely helped close the deal for the 2 six pack special! Too bad the dancers only danced 1 song every ½ hour or so. But all the cute female customers dancing all around almost made up for not having the half naked dancers shaking it not more than 3 feet away form us!

Well, 2 and ½ hours later and 10 beers later, the 2 of us we're felling no pain. Sent the last 2 beers over to two hotties (around late 20's to early 30"s and about 6 to 7's on 10 point scale) dancing at a table in front of us. Guess that doesn't happen much in Wuhan as they asked the waiter who sent them, then looked our way with huge smiles on their faces and proceeded to come over to toast us with their new beers. They then put on some special dance moves for us, now that they knew they had an audience. Too soon, it was closing time, so we go back out to the street and the girls follow us, but they hang back a bit to see if we come back to get them. I turn to go back to get them, but my friend says we can do better back at the Square and I agree to go along with him. Bad mistake - 2 in the hand (and probably freebies at that! ) versus none in the bush. Guess my judgment was a bit impaired by the beers! By the time we get back to the square, there are only about 5 SW's left and the quality was as bad as reported in prior posts, 3 to 4 quality level with high mileage.

So, back we go the hotel, empty handed! Then my colleague drunkenly pushes the 8th floor elevator button and stumbles out the door to the 24-hour massage center. The massage center is no bigger than my suite and not a massage girl in sight. So my colleague tells the attendant to send 2 massage girls up to his room for us to check out. 10 minutes latter, 2 girls, both about 7's show up. Definitely not massage girls for anything other than our xiao diddis! (Found out latter that this massage center is really not a real massage service like on the 2nd floor of the hotel but actually an an out call service where not many, if any, girls actually wait around there for customers.) One of the two "massage girls looked like the twin for the dancer at the bar earlier in the evening and so off we went to "dance the night away! " Damage Rmb 400 plus gave her a tip of 100 rmb for taxi fare.

So, contrary to what has been written in prior posts about Wuhan, there is action to be had. You just need to look a little harder than DG, SZ etc where it literally falls into your lap!

I was in Wuhan before Christmas and stayed at Kingdom Hotel-350 Youth Road in Hankou. I went to the Kai Yue Xiu Xian Zhong Xin-Sauna and massage place-lots of neon on the front. It is very easy to find (about a 5 to 8 minute walk from lobby of hotel), go out the lobby door of the hotel to the right, turn right at the first intersection, make another right at the first street you come to and it will be on your left about 500m down that street. The name of the sauna is in Pinyin and also has Massage in English on the front of the building. You will notice at least 2 other sauna places on your way to this 1. I asked for a name card, but they said none were available.

Went in, massage was quoted at 188, shower massage with ‘help’ was 300 for normal room and 400 for VIP room. Not much of a sauna place, loose the clothes then head upstairs-as they told you, no need to shower the lady will do that for you. I looked at a normal room-old and moldy with no heat, so I opted for the VIP room with heat. All rooms have TV, bed and shower area with massage table. I’m sure they could have provided a line up but it wasn’t necessary. When asked what I wanted I said young and slim and within 2 minutes a pretty (at least a 7) 20 year old from Heilongjiang (#98) was at the door.

Strip and go to the shower for the shower massage. It was ok, but nothing special since the temp of the room was about 10 degrees. Back massage first with a through cleaning and then the flip for a through cleaning and from massage. She did soap up and do a tit massage on my back. OK, my first night here was a bust. Disappointing given my pretty good time in BJ the last 3 nights. Expensive, but good experiences. Your statement above is just not true. You should not give newbies a false sense of security. Scams can happen anywhere in China if you are not careful. Some can be even worse than this one. We must always be vigilant.

Your second statement is very bad advice. Starting a fight with the guys may have resulted in getting the shit kicked out of him at the least. It is always best to pay (you may try to negotiate down some), but avoid confrontation and just chalk it up to bad luck.

Good advice has been posted before. My favorites are:

1) Never follow touts
2) If the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
3) If the place looks even a little bit dodgey, split.
4) Only carry enough money in your pocket that you are willing to spend or lose.

Why are you so soft on the pimps?

When I got scammed like in this case, I would never give in to the bastards immediately. I would pick up a pipe or a heavy object, quickly make my way to the closest exit, then I would split or negotiate from there. These scum bags would never dare strike foreigners as that would bring down a lot of heat. If that fails, you can still negotiate the price, which would come down quickly one the pimps find some resistance.

Your statement above is just not true. You should not give newbies a false sense of security. Scams can happen anywhere in China if you are not careful. Some can be even worse than this one. We must always be vigilant.

Your second statement is very bad advice. Starting a fight with the guys may have resulted in getting the shit kicked out of him at the least. It is always best to pay (you may try to negotiate down some), but avoid confrontation and just chalk it up to bad luck.

Good advice has been posted before. My favorites are:

1) Never follow touts
2) If the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
3) If the place looks even a little bit dodgey, split.
4) Only carry enough money in your pocket that you are willing to spend or lose.

Not too excited about having it done by a male attendant, but what the heck, when in Rome do what the Romans do!

Just returned from Wuhan, stayed at the Holiday Inn Riverside. Walk into the health spa/sauna in the first floor and the madam there will approach you with a menu - infact on checking in the little key folders that registration gives you has the spa info. Price starts from as low as 5$ to 200$.

Any price higher than this is totally not appropriate.

Prices differs on the location, small shops should not exceed 50$ and hotel start around 80$, depends on the decoration.

If you pay more than 100 $, you should get a girl as pretty as the movie star, if not, you are over payed.

Sauna is the best place to get good service with 40$ to 90$.

Language is a problem so please don't expect anybody at the sauna to speak eng when you go out of the hotel.

So go with the local will be a better idea even you pay for him to have fun together. One more suggestion is to avoid the small shop on the street, not safe, unless you enjoy the venture more than sex, .

You are lucky so let me help you guys with the latest info:

Price starts from as low as 5$ to 200$.

Any price higher than this is totally not appropriate.

Prices differs on the location, small shops should not exceed 50$ and hotel start around 80$, depends on the decoration.

If you pay more than 100 $, you should get a girl as pretty as the movie star, if not, you are over payed.

Sauna is the best place to get good service with 40$ to 90$.

Language is a problem so please don't expect anybody at the sauna to speak eng when you go out of the hotel.

So go with the local will be a better idea even you pay for him to have fun together. One more suggestion is to avoid the small shop on the street, not safe, unless you enjoy the venture more than sex, .

The saying goes that you can always find pretty girls from all over China. Every province has their good, bad, pretty and ugly girls. However, I must admit that I've had a big weakness of Hubei girls. For some odd reason, I find Hubei girls to be extremely hot. This if of course a generalization. For anyone staying near Wuhan University. Directly across the street from one of the main gates of Wuhan University is hotel (can't recall the name, Chinese name). Called the beauty salon from my room, asked for a girl to come to my room for a massage, was told 30 minutes. 30 minutes on the dot, a knock on the door, skinny girl comes in, we start negotiated the price, she tries to upsell. I try to push 600 RMB she wants 800, settle at 500. Quite mechanical FS but got the edge off.

Exactly, the places are in old low-story houses of the type where the "rooms" are only separated by sheets. You pay 30 RMB for a maximum of 30 mins of massage + HJ and the 30 RMB includes the price for the handjob. If you take too long to cum, the mamasan will yell from the entrance that the time is up and to hurry up and you can choose to leave and pay 30 RMB or stay in which case the price rises by another 30 RMB.

Once you are in such a cabin with a girl you can usually also negotiate to f*ck her for around 150 RMB. Some of the girls will only do HJ however, still a great bargain for 30 RMB in my opinion.

The spaces are only separated by curtains, but I don't care, somehow it makes the whole sex thing nastier, to hear the fake moaning and screaming of girls you don't see behind curtains with other clients.

As I wrote, if you consider a handjob sex (which I do), the 5 US Dollar price is approximately right, since 30 RMB was the standard price I was quoted in Wuhan. The girls are ok, looks-wise about the same as other BBS girls in China with prettier ones and less pretty ones among them. But since in one street of BBS stalls you can choose between 50-100 girls you are pretty sure to find some cuties among them.

Strangely enough I also went to a BBS across the street from one of the main gates of Wuhan University, price was 150 RMB. Pretty weird to have such open display of prostitution in China right across from the gates of a famous university. Possibly in the ultimate irony there even was a large Mao statue close to the gate, I don't remember so clearly. On the other hand in my experience in Wuhan you also often have BBS right next to the gates of local primary schools and middle schools without anybody of the locals seeming to care, imagine that in the US, haha. People in China seem to view prostitution as not different from working in other service jobs.

Wuhan University is however in Wuchang and most of the nightlife, hookers etc. are in Hankou, across the Yangtse River, while the Universities are mostly in Wuchang. I never said anything about "more than 200", I would estimate a typical location having several stores, each with a couple of girls. I recently traveled to Yichang (near 3 Gorges Dam). It is a nice city without much to do...

I was with my Thai girlfriend so mongering was difficult, however after dinner we took a taxi for a trip around Yichang. Was in Wuhan last week, and slept in Novotel Xin Hua.

Could try their sauna (easy to find, on the 6th floor). Actually, when I saw their opening hours (from 13:00 to 6 am!), I knew their would provided valuie added service, which proved to be true.

Service is classic for a sauna, for a 788 RMB damage for a VIP room for 90 minutes. A bit expensive, but service provided by young number 77 was very good and quite GFE. She proposed to come directly to my room the next night, but work caught me.

Just came back from Wuhan and I was staying at Ramada Optical Valley.

Well the Novotel sauna is still closed as of yesterday. The one across the street was what I settled for and it was a huge mistake. The place looks nice from the outside but it is absolutely filthy downstairs. It was too late though to turn back, the girl was nice enough but it was very rushed. 500 rmb and I would never repeat.

If you're going to be in Hankou (Jianghan in Google Maps) , there's a pretty good massage / spa with full service that I've never experienced before.

A quick update on a recent trip to Wuhan. Things are pretty low-keyed, as in everywhere in China, even CP and SZ are affected. Stayed in the same hotel as in the last trip, the East International Hotel, near East Lake. I had good experience in the sauna downstairs last time. This time round, everything was very discreet. You have to first call the sauna by internal phone. Then the mamasan will come up to your room to bring you down to the sauna. Access is only granted if you are accompanied. Thereafter, it is business as usual. Three categories of XJ: 880, 980 and 1180 RMB. Service is standard DG-style with 2Q, but with much better quality than the BBS which is non-existent now. Everywhere you go, the sex service industry has gone upmarket. It's difficult to find 150-200 RMB quickie nowadays. Sad isn't it!

MAccording to the Trip Advisor website this hotel is rated number 41 of 1,400 hotels in Wuhan. So I think you have made a good choice. I will answer some of your questions in my review of the Qingshan District, to follow. But be assured, that in almost every hotel in China someone will stick a business card with a picture of pretty girls in lingerie under your door that you can ring. So even if you are terrified of stepping outside the door of your hotel room, you can still have a girl sent over to your room. You will generally pay more for this service, but it is better than nothing, I'm sure.

I have visited Wuhan about half a dozen times over the past few years. I speak a little Chinese and the purpose of my visits has not been recreational so I'm not able to provide you with a great deal of assistance. Nevertheless, in my opinion, it's a great place to visit so long as you don't come in mid-summer when it is unbearably hot.

One of the primary joys of travel for me is being in a place where I know no-one at all and where everything will be a surprise. In some cities, the reason that you found nothing is that there is probably nothing much to be found. But in a place like Wuhan, there is great deal to be seen and enjoyed. So be assured, you don't have to try that hard to find something here because it really is available all over the place.

Nevertheless, it is a fact that things are much, much easier if you have a local with you, someone who speaks English and Chinese, and who can show you around the place. If you don't have anyone to accompany you, it is still possible to have a great time – but will be a lot more "hit and miss". For example, I know from experience that it is possible to receive at least a happy ending in many of the massage shops there. But it is hard for a foreigner to even know that these places are massage shops because all the signs are written in Chinese characters. In addition, the standard procedures of massage shops require that you ask for a particular service at the beginning and so if you know no Chinese, they will not know what you want. And finally, there are massage shops that no respectable person would ever enter. My friend pointed these out to me once when we were going for a walk. In my opinion, they are indistinguishable from the respectable massage shops. So if you find one of the disreputable places, where surely you wish to go, you will only find them by dumb luck. Nevertheless, if you are persistent you will find them. Google Maps can get you started. Search for "Massage near Qingshan District, Wuhan, Hubei, China" or whatever district your hotel is located. If you have a little bravado and a sense of humour, its amazing what sometimes results.

Personally, the way I have entertained myself on my visits is by stumbling across venues.

On my second last visit, for example, I found in a side street four shops providing a similar service. These shops were like garages and at night the roller door at the front. Inside the lights were low. In one shop there was a blue light. In the next shop, a pink light. And in the next a red one. In each shop there were three to six pretty girls sitting waiting for customers. This was a great find, but unfortunately these shops are next to a major building redevelopment and so as I write this, I expect they're being demolished. A great loss for one and all.

On my last visit, when I went for a long walk along Yejin and Youyi Avenues and there was plenty to see. As you walk along you are very occasionally called over by women, inviting you to come into their shop. One of the good things about being as old and ugly as I am, is that there is no possibility that someone has taken a fancy to me. When I walk along and a pretty girl calls me over, there is no confusion about what is taking place, whether or not the conversation is conducted in English or Chinese. To be honest when I was younger I had no luck either and so I feel this is my opportunity to be careless as well.

I have always felt very safe on my walks. However I think one should take some precautions. The internet has many good suggestions for the safety of tourists. But one I will mention. I only ever take enough money for the night, so that if anything were to happen, I wouldn't mind handing it over. Nor do I take my passport or credit cards with me. There is a time and place to be brave, but defending a pocketful of cash is not one of them.

In relation to prices, I generally pay no more than a third to one half of the prices that I would pay in my home country (Australia). It's quite possible that I'm paying far too much but when I think how much I have spent on air fares, to be strolling along those streets, then I don't mind so very much. I have read in reports from people who have visited more often than me that the price of services is quite expensive relative to the average salary here. However if it is cheaper than at home, that's good enough for me.

Anyhow, if you would like to head towards somewhere fun, I think you could do much worse that pay a visit to the more than fifty bars and KTV shops in a mall parallel with Gong Ye Er Lu. This is an amazing place to visit, even if you just want to have a wander through. It's dead during the day but at night it's like nothing else. As you walk along the mall, you are called into the bars by pretty girls and some of them speak a little English. Here are the Google Maps coordinates for this place: 30. 624332, 114. 396467. When you use these coordinates, please delete the spaces after the full stops because this website inserts spaces after fullstops, even when you don't want them there. I had some very memorable nights at a few of these bars. I've never had a problem but members should take care. Insist on paying as you go and not at the end. If you get a bad feeling about a place, then leave early and find one that treats you well.

I was just in Wuhan for two nights and figured I would give an update. I'm going to split it into two posts to be clear.

I found a place on Meiyuan road as mentioned in previous posts.

I went in and said An Mo and they took my back to this little room with a bed. This older woman came in who was probably cute enough when she was younger. I found a place on Meiyuan road as mentioned in previous posts.

For years I would not go anywhere in China without my Lonely Planet book. It has the hand signals for the the numbers 1-10. As you learn them you will realize that in China every thing is about MONEY. Point to a character in the book and the person will usually pronounce it, thus a everyone is you teacher. Some lessons will be expensive as you will see on this site. Play around with the pinyin system on your phone, and check out "itranslate" from Apple. $5 well spent. And if you get Wechat (Weixin） it will has a translate option that is not perfect, but gets the point across. Itranslate is more accurate.

Chris.I have visited Wuhan about ten times over the past five years or so. To my knowledge, there is no red light district in Wuhan, and so it's not possible to just tell you to go to a particular street. However there are plenty of opportunities about and I haven't been disappointed very often.

I enjoy going for long walks at night along the main streets when I'm visiting Wuhan. I keep an eye out for small shops, often lit up with pink or blue lights. You will see young women sitting about inside these shops. I generally just walk in and smile, and say ni hao. They'll take care of you from there.

Even during the day, you can sometimes get lucky. Once I can remember, going for a walk, and then being called over by a woman, and invited into her little massage shop. That made me laugh. Just out of the blue, at one moment, you're feeling bored and alone, and then moments later, things have turned out much better.

I would also say that sex (ranging from a hand job to full service) is available at roughly half of all massage shops. I used to have a Chinese girlfriend. When we were having a massage together, she would chat with the massage ladies. In some massage shops, the massage ladies would tell her that they're terribly offended when some of the local men ask them for sex. So clearly, in some shops, extras are absolutely not available. However in other massage shops, the massage ladies would tell her that they would make no money at all if they did not offer extras. They told her, however, that they keep this a secret from their boyfriends and family. If you are friendly and make an effort to communicate with your massage lady, there is a good chance that you may be offered some extras. Even if you speak no Chinese, you can get across what you want with a little bit of effort.

To illustrate this, let me share the following anecdote. On my last visit, at around midnight, I was passing by what I thought was (during the day) a pretty regular massage shop. On the spur of the moment, I decided to walk inside. It was pouring with rain and I was the only customer at that time. The massage ladies took me to the back of the shop. Using my phone to translate, I agreed to pay 60 yuan for an hour massage. There were three massage ladies working that night. I undressed and lay down on the massage table. At first just one lady was massaging me. Then the others started to help her out. They began getting cheeky and teasing me, running their fingers higher up my leg. I speak no Chinese and they spoke no English. But we were soon all laughing. I don't take myself too seriously, and its quite possible they were laughing at my expense. But who cares less. Then I thought, what the hell and I handed each lady a 100 yuan note, and thanked them for their wonderful massage. From there, it was a lot of fun. It was my first and only time with multiple women. They were nothing special in terms of looks, but so what. I had a lot of fun. It was good listening to them talk to their clients and boyfriends on their mobile phones. It was also interesting to see the kind of pornography they had on their mobile phones. After an hour had passed, I paid them another 100 yuan each. I thought, who cares less. This is my chance to feel like a rich man and enjoy three wonderful women. So whether this was too much or a bargain, I just didn't care. I had a really great night. Before I left, they told me to wait at the back, and then they looked out the front door, to see if the police (I guess) were around. There were none about and so they told me to go quickly. If you know absolutely no-one in a city and you speak no Chinese in a city like Wuhan, you are often reliant on the hotel staff who speak English to give you suggestions about where to eat, where to catch a taxi, and so on. It is really worthwhile being friendly and getting to know any of the staff who speak English, perhaps even being generous with your tipping. In the past I've received some really good recommendations of places to get a good massage or sauna from hotel staff members (not from females though, obviously). Once someone I asked appeared to be offended, but I just pretended that I just wanted a legitimate massage. But all the other times they were happy to make suggestions. I mean, if you ask the question, quietly, with a smile on your face, they know what you're asking. Once I even had the hotel guy take me down to the massage shop, speak to the mamasan in Chinese for me, and a good time was had by all, so the saying goes.

I took an hour walk around my resort. Not much to see, does anyone recognize any of these places?

I arrived in wuhan in the late afternoon today. Once checked into my hotel in the west lake area. A fellow isger had suggestes a mamasan wh didn't speak english, I don't have a phone sim yet, be-see I haven't met my appointed assistant yet. So I don't have a translator. Still, I asked the one person who works at the hotel and speaks English how far away the place is, and she said 30 minutes with good traffic. The traffic was bad, So I started walking. I went about 30 minutes one one side of the street, crossed using one of those sky bridges, then back tward my hotel. I went about 45 minutes pasted my hotel the other way, then crossed the street again. Holy cow was it hot. I saw very little of interest. There were a few alleys that had several led light signs. I went back to the hotel, had dinner and a shower, then. Entered back out, around 9:00. Exploring those alleys, I found lots of street food and the like, no glowing red lights. There was a place with a foot massage sign very close to my hotel, so at 11:00, I went in. Not going to lie, I was nervous.

A middle aget woman behind a desk greeted me, I smiled and said massage? My plan was to just pick the most expensive one. The choices were 88 foot and 288 oil. Oh well, no luck but I don't want to be weird and walk away, so I ask for the 288. I go to the room, walking past several middle aged men getting foot rubs watching soccer on TV from some resonably looking women. So I see a silver lining.

After a few minutes in the room, the host returns with a young man holdI'm a vase full of oil. I'm thinking, ok, he is going to prepare the room or something. Nope, the host leaves, and he gestures for me to take off my clothes. I'm couldn't believe my luck.

I couldn't be rude, so I lied down and he started. After about 5 minutes, it occurred to me that I was wasting time, it was after 11:00, and I started thinking of a polite way to get out of there.

After about 30 minutes, I stood up, yawned and said Xie xie. I gave him 10 rmb, and got dressed. I paid the bill and left.

Back to hotel, 3rd shower of the day, walked out about 12.

I walked the other way for about 30 minutes, it was all territory I had seen before. No massage, no bars, a few KTV signs but I didn't find them.

I got into a taxi and asked to go to my hotel. I asked: ni ju Dao xiao jie ma? He half laughed and said no.

Anyway. Got home after 100. I'm trying brothers, I really am. .

I have the day tomorrow to explore, but I will need to sleep for the conference, so my odds are very slim. I was sweating up a storm at midnight, so I don't hold much hope.

Why don't you just take a taxi to the place I told you.

I am pretty sure it is safe.

Chinese government had already shut Dongguan down and put a lot people in jail, it is dangerous. So it is very hard even for local Chinese to find the right place searching on streets.

And it is easy to be cheated in China if you are not familiar because prostitute is illegal, you can't call police considering your reputation.

Tips: take nothing else except your cell phone and a little more cash than needed. You even do not need to take your passport with you, nobody will check it in China.

Good point, I might try that today. Since I arrived late yesterday and didn't have a phone sim, I figured I would look around here. This place really is ice cold. But your safety point is well taken, I must have been very conspicuous walking back and forth so much.

I have 2 meetings today, at 12 and 4. Tomorrow begins two full days. I'll see how brave I feel after the meetings. But it might be best to give up on the idea. Thanks so much for the info.
