According to the articles I have seen on the crackdown, any shops selling alcohol will also be required to close at midnight. Since every 7/11 I have been in in Bangkok sells booze, it seems that you are prescient.

Tried Eden Club a few nights ago: it was a great experience and money well spent.

The new closing time will be enforced from march 1. The only 3 zones that will stay open till 2 are the Petburi,Ratchada,and Patpong. The Sukumvid's night spots is not in the zone so will be closed at 12 midnight. Kao San area will also close at 12 as well. This rule apply for all country except Chiang Mai and 2 other small prefectures. Phuket , Pattaya, Samui, Phangan, will be no exception.So guys, from now on if you are heading to Sukumvit area bars and discos or agogo, have to ajust your time. Or good ladies will be gone by the time you get there. After this new law, I think the only discos will stay open till 2 is at RCA. Can you imagine Q-bar, The Bed, DBo(MOS), Narcissus,all the Sukumvid night clubs, all the clubs in Thong Lor, and Kao San will be dead quiet after 12. I think Bangkok will be a ghost town without these night spots.

There isn't always a workaround. After a few months of we sex tourists getting better deals from the girls due to a shortage of tourists, we'll see most bars going out of business, most girls being forced to go work in some factory, and what is left being mopped up by the police once there's no more payoff money in the business. In very short order there will be nothing available to the foreigner. There will not always be 'a huge supply of girls', since once the current huge working girl incomes will be curtailed by the end of the bar system, and the chances of police harrassment will go up, leaving only the most desperate 1 or 2 percent of the girls willing go into it. Just like in the States where only the proverbial 'crack-heads' are available. The supply of girls is contingent mainly on the very large incomes available, and that will end. Also incidentally Thailand has a very high economic growth rate and a very low population growth rate, so that would've tended to curtail the supply eventually anyway. These new rules will do it in a few years.

Hi All,
I just got back from a week in Bangkok. I spent essentially every night at NEP, since this visit was a pre-planned visit with a sweet little bargirl I met back in November who was everything I wanted in looks, body, sexual abilities, and personality. Over the last year, I've become pretty friendly with a couple of the owners and/or managers at some of the bars. I had a couple of rounds of drinks with them (and of course, with the girls), so I have some stories to tell:
1) The owner of Voodoo/HollywoodI/Alibi/etc. tells me that the upcoming midnight closing time is a serious threat but is not a done deal - people are apparently lobbying very hard, so we have to keep our fingers crossed. Essentially, the goal is to expand the zoning concept to include all areas that cater mainly to foreigners, i.e., to include NEP and probably Soi Cowboy as well.
2) Angelwitch is still my favorite show - they have added a couple of new routines since last year, but in general, the show hasn't changed too much. Still, I always get free drinks and a great seat at Angelwitch (it pays to be friendly with the folks in charge), so who am I to complain?
3) With the chickenflu scare going around, it seems like prices on Freelancers have dropped a little (I don't partake, since I had my local cutie with me), but from some discussions, it looks like LT was down to 1300baht or so for reasonably decent looking ladies.
4) I stayed at Majestic Suites again. Still very nice and clean, though a little more expensive than Dynasty, etc (I always get the deluxe room for 1500baht/night - Dynasty was only 800/night for a single). In my opinion, Majestic Suites remains one of the best places to stay if you like NEP since it is right next door, is always very clean (no roaches, unlike Ambassador!!), is absolutely girl friendly, and the staff is professional and trustworthy.
5) Voodoo is absolutely dead, as is HollywoodI - lousy music, bored looking girls, and few clients. Considering that G-Spot, Voodoo, HollywoodI, and the place starting with a P (the name escapes me right now) directly across from Voodoo are all owned by the same guy, I don't understand why there is such a variation in quality.
6) Interestingly, my local sweetie was actually even better in bed than the last time I remember - I guess experience makes everyone improve ;-).
As with the 2:00 AM closing time edict, I expect we shall find that the large, easy-to-fine-or-shut-down places (like NEP say) will have no choice but to obey the new rules. After a while though, smaller independent places will probably start to stay open later, being willing to risk a fine for the (probably quite large) additional revenue they will take.
I was in Pattaya before Christmas and was surprised how variable the observance of 2:00 AM and the “APEC no bare bits in the gogos” rules was. I happily drank in a large bar on the corner of 2nd Road and Soi 13 until 4:00 AM or later, with a live band playing until 3:00 AM at least. And this place is hardly hidden in the back streets. I toured a lot of the gogos and while some would not even risk a single topless girl (e.g. Diamond, Living Dolls) others had full nudity (and the best free show I have ever seen in Electric Blue). The same was largely true of Bangkok. Couldn’t even find a single topless dancer in NEP in November, while out at Soi Cowboy Rawhide was also clothed, whereas Fanny’s had full nudity.
Personally the new midnight rule won’t affect my P4P much, I like to enjoy the girls to the max and so get them in the sack early before the night’s alcohol consumption starts to affect me too much. I should imagine that timetables will just move forward 2 hours or become compressed (though I am being very simplistic here). No more waiting until 2:00 AM for Soi Bangla in Patong Beach to become “Soi Hah Roy Baht”. But I sometimes like to just get p*ssed with a mate on a night out, and then the midnight closing rule will be a pain.
I guess we will just have to wait and see how things develop and how religiously the owners observe the new rules and the police enforce them. That’s where this forum will be a great tool for planning future holidays.
Again, personally I think it is very myopic of Pracha, Purachai and Thaksin to do this. They could easily have achieved their supposed objectives of protecting Thai youth and stopping Thai men drinking too much without wrecking a substantial part of the tourist industry. But a while back Pracha was quoted in the Bangkok Post as saying that sex tourists are cheap scum who are not welcome in Thailand, so the new rules are certainly consistent with his stated view there. So there seems to be a (very poorly) hidden agenda in these new rules, i.e. reduce the number of sex tourists and bugger the consequences for the economy and the employees of the P4P industry.
The freelance scene may benefit from the changes, however, which would be positive for us. The new rules are bad and sad as they are a restriction on our freedom, which is especially annoying when we are on holiday, but they certainly do not spell the end of P4P in Thailand IMHO. The zealots in government will have to squeeze a lot harder than this to achieve that.
At the end of the day, you pay your money and take your choice. Nobody is forcing us to visit Thailand. I recently returned to holiday in The Philippines after an absence of 5 years, and enjoyed it so much that I was anyway going to divide my time between the two countries in future. But with power cuts, kidnappings, and $100 bar fines in Makati, it is not the Land Of Smiles and never will be. (There are some compensations though!)

I guess that Toy Boy's picture of what will happen is closer to reality than the nightmare you are describing.
There is no reason why less sex tourists should come to the kingdom. It will be more "compressed" as Toy Boy said and there will be more freelancers. Maybe the places might change as well but girls will still be available in a sufficient amount. The high economic growth rate and the very low population growth rate might have a long term effect, but this is still very far away.

The late nights I was in the Sukhumvit seemed a bit lackluster compared to say 6 months ago. Soi 7 seemed pretty dead at 1am, and I was quite surprised.
I did go to Bier Garten the next night, and it was quite crowded at 8pm, perhaps everyone is trying to get action a little earlier (even though they say they're still open until 2am right now).
I don't think Thailand will go down the drain for mongers, but just be a little less fun in the long run.
In Saturdays newpaper (Nation, I think), they were saying that other areas of the country could apply for exemption, so Pattaya and Phuket could do so if they wanted to. I don't know if there are strings attached to these exemptions or not.
Bill - one thing about United miles, though - don't plan on using any of them when YOU want to unless it's booked MONTHS in advance

BillM - Well you'd get your flights a lot quicker if you just flew a few BKK trips a year. If you get up to the medium or highest FF level, you'd get enough miles for a free flight with just 1 1/2 flights. I get about 40k miles on each flight from the West coast.
I personally would not use miles to go to BKK, though. Tickets are pretty cheap overall, from the West anyway. I'd use the miles for upgrades to first/business class, or for someplace (EZE) that tickets are a lot more expensive.

I don't know about the Ambassador, but the Nana Hotel has roaches. A medium-sized one crawled down my bathroom wall on one of my first days there last month. I never saw another one, but even one is more than you need.

I don't think he was kidding. I haven't seen any roaches in my rooms at the Majestic Suites, Grand President or Bright City Towers. If a place has a lot of them, then I'd check them off the list. Otherwise, I'd complain about it, and see what happens.
I've had lots worse. I had a huge (8 inches!) spider in a cabana in Costa Rica one time. It was just sitting up on the window screen.

I stayed at the Ambassador >2 years ago and it definitely had roaches. I've stayed in both the "old" and "new" parts of the hotel, and they are equally bad. No idea if they've improved it since then, but I don't plan to find out.
I've stayed in the Nana Hotel and found it to be a mixed bag - girl friendly, but definitely not the cleanest place in the world. Food is not bad, though. I didn't see any roaches personally, but was warned by others.
My favorite is definitely the Majestic Suites, which is where I stay exclusively now (well, at least when I am there lookin' for women and not there on work).
A friend on mine stayed at the Dynasty Inn and said it was pretty bad, but okay for the money (800B/night). He didn't say he saw any bugs, but the bathroom was kinda beaten up and icky.
The same friend also reported staying at the Rajah Inn and said it was absolutely roach central.
The summary is - I recommend the Majestic if you can get a room and don't mind the slightly higher price tag (1100B/night single - 1500B/night deluxe)

i had a trip to bangkok about 1 year ago. i stayed at the bayoke suite hotel. i only had two days so i was busy. i arrived around 2 am in the morning dropped my bags and went straight out on the prowl.

You could also cross Suk and around soi 3-7 at the corners of those roads you'll see all kinds available. In fact many are also just returning from a night out coming back from a hotel and are looking to meet friends or eat breakfast. They will go out with you for the price mentioned below 1000. You may want to get a short time hotel in area for about 200 baht. She will know. This will be helpful too in case your hotel is not yet ready for you - but they will keep your bags at the bell station.

I speak almost no Thai, but when someone quotes me 2500 baht, I usually laugh and walk away. Most freelance girls will ask for 1500 and take 500-1000. I think most normal posters know about my feelings about tour guides, but if he worked for you, great. I got all the good info here on the WSG when I went the first time. It was rather fun finding out a lot of the other stuff by myself.
I wouldn't pack my bags to move yet, though. You will get tired of it at some point, unless there is something else about the country you love. Go every few months over a year, with a stay of at least a month. If you feel the same a year from now, maybe you can start planning more. It is quite easy to fall in love/lust in Thailand.

trojan - well, if you go upstairs to the departure level (2 floors up), you'll save 50 baht. it will cost about 150-250 baht each way it you're going to the sukhumvit area. you should take the toll ways at this time since there's bound to be a lot of traffic. one thing you guys need to remember is these places are not in an entertainment zone so as of march 1 they like all the other entertainment places in that area could be closed during the day. lots of talk about changing the new government rule of 6pm to midnight but so far it is only talk. the new times go in effect on march 1 or in about a week.

Went out with R and two of his friends. We met at the Dutch restaurant at the end of Soi Cowboy, had some food and beer. Ready for the clubs, we went to the first place on the right. sukhumvit's most successful nightspots. "killing cheap sex and
drugs is good, but allowing the worst places to stay open won't
do it. now you have to go to super pussy or poseidon to have a

that make sense?"
bewilderment is the rule among bar operators throughout the
country, not only toward the confounding logic behind the
policy, but also toward what, in reality, will happen come march
1, the date the policy is to be imposed.
in conversations real.time had with bar operators throughout
bangkok, confusion was as common as anger, with many complaining
that outside of what they had read in the newspapers, they were
still completely in the dark, unable to get clear answers from
the police or government officials.
one sukhumvit pub manager said that since she's received no
notification as of yet she planned to "stay open until we are
told not to". this "play it by ear" attitude is the mantra of
the moment, though the reactions of prominent nightspots since
the announcement two weeks ago have varied.
in trying to get a straight answer on what will happen on the
night of march 1, real.time contacted the police's spokesman
office, the government spokesman bureau, the informatiom
division of the interior ministry, as well as thong lo and
makkasan police stations. what we gathered is that they all have
learned about the cabinet decision, but haven't yet received a
written order to carry out the inspection. "we haven't got the
official order," says a police officer at thong lo station. "so
we'll have to wait and see."
it's likely, from the authority's responses, that march 1 is not
the definitive deadline. but that hasn't stopped bar owners from
taking precautions. at least two prominent bars have called in
lawyers to try to negotiate a compromise with the government,
and due to the variety of existing licenses, grey areas are
already blurring the lines of the proposed zoning.
hotels, for example, such as the conrad and metropolitan, are
allegedly looking for an exemption for their 2am outlets. in
general, there's a collective, and rather essential, denial and
rejection on the part of bar operators who refuse to accept that
such a draconian measure could last long _ and just in case,
they are already searching for ways to circumvent it. after all,
it doesn't take an accountant to determine that the midnight
closing hour will be the death knell for thousands of businesses
in the country.
bangkok bars are already scandalously known for their short
life-cycles. those that endure proudly testify their merits, but
the cinderella-hour decree will threaten even the most-packed
places to be transformed into hollow pumpkins.
prajaktorn jindachote, owner of yes indeed!, a super-hit
restaurant/bar in the un-zoned kaset-navamintr road estimates
that 10 percent of small entertainment venues will go bust by
the end of the year. "but next year, more than 50 percent will
be forced out of business," he adds. "for the first year the
operators will be willing to scrape by, but next year they'll be
running on empty."
earlier this month, somyos suthangkoon, president of the
association of entertainment business operators, predicted the
inevitable doom of nightspots outside the zones and voiced
concern that, even though business owners will struggle to find
the way out, low-level staff like waitresses or guards will head
for unemployment.
"of course we need to adapt, to invest more money and think of a
way to add new incentives for people to keep coming, changing
the menu perhaps, or refreshing our image" says prajaktorn of
yes indeed!. "but for places that have no financial means to
update themselves things are going to be really rough."
perhaps one of the world's most famous streets, khao san road is
bewilderingly left outside the arbitrary chalkmark of the zone.
talk about decline in tourism has circulated in the media,
though there's no signal that authorities will have mercy on
this carnival-like bang lamphu strip.
"adjust? we cannot adjust!," says sanchai rattanayenji,
assistant operation manager of a company that owns khao san's
top bars like austin, the club, susie and buddy village. "we
cannot adjust because the customers won't adjust their going-out
patterns. the only thing we think we have to do now is to close
down some of the places we operate. the club and austin will
definitely go first, maybe within a month. fifty percent of the
staff will be laid off, in the beginning.
"the government changes our opening hours, but they don't change
our customers' working hours, so how can we cope? it's tough
having to close at 2am. with the midnight regulation we're
doomed."
even bar operators inside the zone, whose establishments would
seem to benefit, are unanimously against the new policy. theerin
sethasompop, who's seen his brit club overflowing with hot
chicks and cool hunks since 1999, remains ambivalent about the
future of the bangkok bar scene even though his establishment,
on phetchaburi road near asoke, falls inside the zone. "it's
difficult to say if people will continue to come out as they're
doing now," he says. "they might choose to stay home altogether.
and yes, that'll create some order for society, but for
businessmen like us the negative impact is clear and present."
like other operators of pubs/bars inside the designated zones,
theerin acknowledges that his venue might attract more clubbers
due to its longer hours, but in a gesture of solidarity he's not
exactly pleased with the new regulations. "this is unfair
competition," he says. "usually bars work hard to bring in
customers and each of them comes up with its own idea how to be
a hit. but the new closing-hour rule favours some establishments
and discriminates against others. the law should encourage
fairness. this one is the opposite."
many bar owners think the government is underestimating the
damage this will have on the economy and tourism. "just at the
time when bangkok was making itself into a cosmopolitan city,
full of world-class bars, attracting tourists to spend more time
here, the government has done this," says the promotion manager
of a classy sathon hotel bar. another bar owner agrees. "you'd
think the government would want to support businesses that
promote legitimate and world-class nightlife. now bangkok is
going to become a joke city when it comes to nightlife."
nobody dares say it aloud, but simmering beneath the surface is
the speculation that all this midnight hullabaloo has something
to do with string-pulling by influential people who're seeking
personal interests amid the chaos. perhaps a series of grand
plans, which include the move to squeeze out existing businesses
so that someone can seize the opportunity to enter the scene.
but most think the sudden announcement of the new closing hour
is an act of yone hin tham tang _ to issue a drastic measure in
order to gauge the public reaction and determine the next step.
"come on, everybody knows that closing the pubs at midnight has
nothing to do with the bid to solve the drugs problem or
teenagers' all-night partying," says an operator who requested
anonymity.
"some people just want to test the waters so they can make the
right move for their own benefits. we'll have to wait and see."
tell that to the owners outside of the zone. the popular
sukhumvit club owner says his business won't last more than a
few months, at which point he says he'll look to other cities
such as singapore to relocate his bar.
in the meantime, many establishments are in the initial stages
of developing contingency plans to invigorate a pre-midnight
scene. one club promoter explains that "it's time to change
people's habits, to encourage them to go out earlier. we've got
ideas but we'd rather keep them secret for now." however,
conversations with nightlife regulars suggest that a change of
habits is unlikely.

eleventh hour tips for outsmarting the midnight crisis
some suggestions and thoughts regarding what should be a
drastically-altered nightlife scene during the month of march
and perhaps well beyond. this impending comatose period, while
bad for businesses, will certainly not represent the death of
partying. the irony is that with some concerted organisation
there could be more fun to be had.
- do what the government says and stay home! but invite all your
friends over and make march a month of house parties _ just
think, a few hundred house parties across the city will
certainly have the police and despondent neighbours clamouring
for a return to the good ol' days of 2am closings. better yet,
pool some money with friends and rent a house exclusively for
parties, a den of vice known only to a few...
- go to chiang mai! the nightlife there has taken off in the
past few years, and because it's one of four provinces currently
in need of zoning, the city is currently exempt from the
midnight policy. according to pim kemasingki, editor of chiang
mai's citylife magazine, bars inside the moat have been forced
to close down at 1am in the past year, but outside the moat, 2am
is common. these hours should continue to be the norm until the
city is zoned later on.
- go to singapore for a weekend! or even kl. as bangkok tightens
its grip, these world cities are loosening theirs. could this be
part of a grand plan to promote airasia? conspiracy theories
abound...
- but think twice before rushing to silom soi 4! perhaps the
hippest strip of clubs inside any of the zones, the already
overcrowded in-zone place will have trouble if there's a
midnight influx. many of the small clubs here are at capacity on
the weekends already. the bars here better be prepared with
their door policies.
- check out new areas! one relatively unknown area to check out
inside the zone is ratchada soi 4. this collection of bars
should be open until 2am. also, follow the whispers as more
after-hours venues (already increasingly common) will spring up.
- so much free time on your hands from midnight to 2am? go buy
more bootlegged dvds! let the government know that if it's not
one thing then it's another...
- to be honest, the nightclub scene in bangkok, while more
expansive, was getting a bit tired. same music, same mtv
atmosphere, same rich kids' showy pretentiousness and
increasingly expensive drinks.
perhaps a more interesting scene with more live music venues
might develop from this unfortunate turn of events? can rca be
reclaimed from the teeny boppers by bringing in better music?
- what bangkok needs anyway is more "social" and less
"seen"...would anyone lament the death of bangkok's increasingly
shallow my-mobile-is-my-best-friend, sms-style of hanging out?

However, for people like us outside Thailand, most of my friends and me thought of the early closing times as the government's way to bring down prostitution and to enhance the country's image as not being the sex capital of the world. Worse things happen in the world, but I can't think of much worse from my perspective. Thailand is one of the few parts of the world thats any fun, and it looks to become more like the rest of the world soon.
Its funny that the Thais are embarrassed about being a sex-tourism destination. Its actually a very sweet deal - easy work, great income. The only other alternative in this part of the world is to have a sweat-shop economy, competing with China - I can only imagine the horrible standard of living and miserable working conditions that would entail. But of course Thakson and the Thai-liban couldn't care less about the quality of life of the Thai people.

I have questions like how long should I stay in Bangkok or should I directly head to Pattaya? Right now I plan to spend 3 days in Bangkok and then head to Pattaya. If I don't like Pattaya I can always go back.
But even so I want to hear ideas and some advice about how Bangkok and Pattaya compare and contrast from the mongering perspective? Thanks a lot!

3-4 days is probabally enough for BKK. Stay on Sukhumvit, between Soi 2 and 8 and you will be right next to Nana, which is probabally your best bet for the time you have.
Nana Hotel and Dynasty are very close to Nana Plaza. I have stayed on Soi 8 (Royal Asia Lodge) and I give them a B+.
Dont waste your time going to the grand palace, its just a bunch of temples and such. Check out the floating market though.
In pattaya, all there is to do is drink and fuck. Luckily they have lots of beer and women. I stayed on Soi 2, but if I were to do it again, I would try to be closer to the gogo clubs. Stay on Walking Street or in a high numbered soi.

I would suggest you do your homework before asking such broad questions. This forum is huge and possibly intimidating, but a skillful use of the search function should yield good results.
My view on what your question is about is that for pure mongering Pattaya is a better location since it is so much focused on nightlife. It is very much like Patpong+NEP on the beach. And much more laid back than the big city.
Still, BKK has a lot to offer, but for mongering, there is nothing there that a horny Farang could not get easier and possibly cheaper in Pattaya.
Myself, I always try to spend 3-4 days in BKK before heading for a true holiday location like Samui. I do not like Pattaya so much, but I can see that it has its merits as a "pure" mongering destination.

I have always like Pattaya over Bangkok and I believe with the latest crack down that is set to take place on March 1, Pattaya becomes even a better choice. It seems to me that the Government is trying to drive the sex trade out of Bangkok and the leaders in Pattaya want to have it.
Just look at the size of the EZ in Pattaya, it covers all of the area that most guys would be in while in Pattaya. Compare that to the small EZ in Bangkok at Patpong. Pattaya is a resort by the sea, with many other things to do besides chase girls. Bangkok is a big city over 8 million people with world class traffic and it is not a very clean place. Just look at the police working traffic on the streets they wear mask because the air is so bad.
I think your 3 days in Bangkok is a good plan and then go to Pattaya and have some real fun.

Pattaya is way better. Bangkok is one big dirty, loud and busy city. Pattaya is a resort city with hills and and beachs. Prices are cheaper in Pattaya also. There are way more bars and some are open 24 hours. It's like asking what's better Detroit or Honolulu.

It seems the Government of Thailand is doing what it always does, says one thing and then does the opposite. The hours of operation that they passed last month where to start today are now on hold and under review.
Maybe when they stopped and took a look at things they saw that this was going to cost them millions. And that was just in the extra money they would have to pay the police to make up for the lost bribe money!
It was a bad idea from the start and maybe now they will see the light and know you can't be a real tourist designation and close your bars and clubs at midnight. It doesn't matter if you are talking about the family vacation or sex tourist everyone stays out late when on vacation.
The next few months will be interest to say the least in Thailand.

I did do a search and the overall impression I have got both from this site and elsewhere is that Pattaya is a big sex resort and it is a "quantity" place. I have been to Thailand several times but never to Pattaya. My recent trip to Bangkok was disappointing (from a quality point of view).

Yes, I noticed that too. The Thai girls in Singapore were much better and classier than the ones in Bangkok's gogo's and beer bars. I got a few good ones there and got GFE with them - they responded well to being treated right.

I think the whole industry is reaching saturation as more and more tourists arrive in Thailand. As tourists numbers increase, demand for BGs increase but there is an ever increasing supply to meet and even exceed this demand. It can only be expected that with ever increasing supply that quality will diminish. Likewise, the quality of tourist is falling too - I witnessed a brawl between farangs in a go go !
The better quality girls will seek greener pastures and this is probably what is happening.
I think that Thai girls are rather nice - you only need to look at and talk to the girls who work doing regular jobs in shops, hotels etc to know that. Girls who look as good as these are rarely found in the bars.

Sorry I misread your post, yes the number of girls working is way up but you can still find many great looking girls in Pattaya. I've moved on to picking up college girls who have come to Patttaya for the weekend, I find them sweet and very loving. And the best part is they leave after a couple of days. On another note, the recent developments are interesting. Lets look at the bottom line as referred to in previous posts. The phasing out of sex tourism and its replacement by mainstream "family" tourism is inevitable as the country develops. Look around the world - is sex tourism not proportional to a country's development ?
At this point in time, calculations have been done and the conclusion is that there are more dollars in "family" tourism than in low end sex tourism. It is just a question of if this substitution can be made.
Perhaps it is all related - mass market low end tourism (including brawling farangs :) ), increasing supply of bar girls; proliferation of beer bars and go go bars; are all contributing to a bubble in the market. Like all bubbles, the underlying quality is not there.

I've noticed that the number of available good looking girls depends on the number of guys going to thailand looking for them. I leave tomorrow for LOS and can't thank you all enough for the great reports. I am taking a three day side trip to Chiang Mai this time and will provide reports when I return.
Last year was my first trip to Thailand and, unfortunately, I did not discover this forum before my trip. You veterans will probably laugh at this report, but it might help the "newbies".

I just came back from a long trip to Bkk, Chiang Mai, HK and Macau. Highlights for my BKK visit are as follows:
1. Hotel: President Solitare (serviced apartment ): Beautiful, larg bedroom and bathroom. Attached but private living room/office with a little kitchenette. Negatives : gaudy lobby stairway and expensive breakfast buffett.

Are you flying to Chang Mai? Air Asia has some really decently priced flights there and 3 or 4 other places within Thailand. I don't think anything is over $50 plus tax if you buy a couple of weeks in advance.

"He wanted them to pay for four trips to the brothel a month, eight porn films a month, plus condoms," said court spokesman Peter Burgdorf. "He also wanted some sort of appliance for self-gratification to use when watching porn."
The man had earlier asked the Foreign Ministry to fly his wife back from her native Thailand, to which she had returned in 2002, saying that he could not afford the ticket.
"He said he needed the services to keep himself fit and healthy because his wife wasn't available," said Burgdorf. "Now he's planning to contest the decision in the court of appeal."

Arriving in Bangkok full of expectations this was my umpteenth visit to the LOS and hopefully not my last. Every time I come here, and I have been coming since 1987, I am always amazed at the rapid change that has taken place.
Any first time visitors travelling to LOS should not waste time and effort posting silly questions because most of the information you need for Los is already contained in the WSG and comes up frequently. So take my advice, spend some time and just read the posts – there is some very useful information contained in the reports.
I typically plan to always arrive on the early morning flights where possible and because of the traffic I also arrived on a Sunday. Surprise number one is that you can purchase your sim cards for your pay-as-you-go service for your telephone. In this day and age a cell phone is a must! Plus why use a roaming service when you can get international and local calls at the fraction of price.
The two main companies, right next to each other in terminal one are orange.co.th and DTAC information available on the website happydprompt.com I first tried to buy an Orange sim card but was informed that I should go to their competitor’s next door DTAC as they were sold out of cards. You buy the card already loaded with credits then you can top up to what is sufficient to your needs. Because I am also making international calls I paid about 900 Baht (23 U$) for a card and sufficient top up. The web sites and telephone services support English language so you don’t require any Thai language skills to use them.
I was staying in the Centre Point Serviced Apartment there are several located around the city, I stayed in Petchburi, for more information check out the web site www.centrepoint.com/eng/default.asp the reason I choose this particular location is for three reasons, the first its close to the BTS station which gets you around Bangkok to 80% of the places I need to get to. Second, these accommodations offer a relaxed atmosphere so you can be in and out at any time with your friends and the room rate is for two people. Third, it also gives free internet access through LAN, useful if you carry a laptop with you.
OK so I arrived on a Sunday and I wanted was some serious action, so after unpacking and a couple of hours rest I went to the one place that could offer this and that was the Eden Club. Directions to the Eden clubs are the BTS to Nana station and head for exit 1 as you come down the stairs look out for the World Inn hotel and head towards that area, its basically to your right under the stairs first road to the left and left as you come off the stairs.
I went into the Eden where three girls were sitting outside of the club looking alluring and trying to entice a few passing guys inside, in fact several of the bars further along the road were doing much the same thing. I walked into the rather smaller than expected club to find the owner Marc sitting on a small desk working on a laptop. I was the only customer inside at 1.35pm, the club opens at 1pm. Marc being French and myself being English meant that we hit it off like our football teams (soccer teams) he asked if I had been there before and I explained I had read about the way the program works and didn’t worry too much about any drinks and got straight down to business. I was asked if I wanted anything in particular and said not really, with that I was led away to a hotel just along the way from the club where the action takes place. After a bite to eat and some rest and a change of clothes I decided it was time to sample the nightlife, like with most things in life some of my favourite bars have since closed down or moved elsewhere. I have been to Angara/ halem at least 4 times, in the last few years and I am sure they are the same. 21 Mar – Evening
After a fun time at Angara (see the massage parlor section), I proceeded to check out Gullivers on Sukhumvit Soi 5. The trips arranged by Big Apple Oriental Tours were allegedly a way to solicit customers for prostitution rings in the Philippines and Thailand.
"These defendants claimed to be operating a traditional travel agency. It is far from that," Attorney General Eliot Spitzer said Monday.
He said the travel agency's actions "led to the systematic exploitation and suppression of young women."
Douglas Allen, 59, and Norman Barabash, 58, were charged with felony and misdemeanor counts of promoting prostitution. They pleaded innocent Feb. 27. If convicted, they could face up to seven years in prison.
Barabash's lawyer, Daniel A. Hochheiser, said the case is weak and the indictment is politically motivated.
According to a separate civil lawsuit brought by Spitzer in 2003, Big Apple Oriental Tours conducted a marketing campaign that included videos, a Web site, brochures and customer testimonials.
A brochure promised "unforgettable adventure vacations for single men to paradise," according to Paul Larrabee, a spokesman for Spitzer. The trips cost about $2,500 for seven to 10 days.
No listing could be found for the travel agency. The company was run from Allen's Poughkeepsie home and Barabash's home in the New York City borough of Queens, Spitzer said.

Woke up sometime around noon, showered, taxi’d back to my hotel, Beau bought me lunch (she insisted), took the sky train to the river, took a boat to Wat Po and had an hour long massage. Can someone familiar with them give me info on the no hands restaurants?
I did a search and two reports stuck out. One discussed 'Priviledge' on Sukhumvit between Soi's 2 and 4. However it didn't really give much info, i.e. cost, services, etc. The other was an SA report about Galaxy, near Patpong. SA said the place allows no hanky panky.

25 Mar – Very Early Morning
My plan had been a trip to Chao Phraya and then pick a girl out of the Thermae (never been before but had scouted the location earlier in the day). You can read about the abysmal failure of the Chao Phraya trip in the massage section. Thermae went as badly, but that turned out to be a blessing.

He got up in my face (or as much as possible given his diminutive stature) and yelled “You want to pay less, go to 7-eleven!” Now, I don’t know what his deal was, but, given that I’ve never seen a Thai act all agro like that, I wasn’t gonna bother. I just set the bottle of water back on the bar, turned on my heel and left.
Okay, that didn’t go well. But, as I was walking up the steps, this gaggle of girls is coming down and there’s one that, at this point in time, I would’ve rated a 7. I smiled at her and she gave me this kind of derisive, snide laugh and kept walking. I guess she didn’t like my new silk shirt. So much the better because my whole scale has been readjusted and she wouldn’t even rate a 1!
Why was my scale readjusted? Well, as Kipling would say, “That my friends is another story.” I’ll post that later, but, right now, I gotta go wake up the star of that story :D

as for the sue/moon duo, i doubt it was a scam. sometimes girls hook up for a certain reason (room mates, friends, etc), and one feels obligated to the other. the 500 baht was a very generous gesture, and assured the other girl wouldn't get too much flack when she meets up with her friend. i have often paid 500 baht for a whole session with a girl on the street ("i like you, i go with you").

It is pretty easy to tell if it is real silk. Real Silk will NOT burn.
If you take a match and try to light a thread, it won't burn. Easiest way is to reverse the shirt, and look on a seam for some loose threads. If it burns, it isn't silk. Most fake Silk is actually shiny Rayon
I think it's misleading to say it won't burn if u light it...cause it will. It just won't continue to burn if u move the lighter away.

25 mar – very early morning
all right, is there a word for a visual epiphany? i mean a sight that lets you know your view of the world was skewed? if so, whatever the word is, i had one (and i’m gonna have her again tonight!) :)
