But I hope Hamilton got the idea and my description was correct. Never said he has to take the elevator or the stairs to go downtairs.
Regarding quality of girls, I often had been there and others reported it too, that the overall quality isn't that good. Calling a girl "hot" is a quite relative expression/description.

Same as always. A friend and I went to a couple go-go bars and there we found a ratio of 15% pretty, 30% OK and the rest not so OK.
Nana disco was busy (Saturday night) and there were a few pretty ones to select from. We had dates so could not sample girls. There was talk of a 3 some with my date but it never materialized which it's OK.
Bars close 2AM.

AIRPORT LAYOVERS
Hi, I'm on my way to Spain and have an eleven hour transfer in Bangkok airport. I have a couple of questions for the more experienced of you guys:
1) Is there anywhere to sleep in the airport without actually leaving?
2) Is it ok to leave on such a short stop pver?
3) Is there a place in the airport where I can recieve a little massage, and perhaps a little extra. I read a long time aga that there was but can no longer find it on the board.
Any information will be welcomed, thanks.

There are dayrooms at Don Muang which cost by the hr n all are quite nice with bathroom attached. U can also check out the massage there where they provide full course but not sure if willing to go to the dayroom for same. Also very expensive compared to city pricing.

Add to that some common sense and the following will be obvious.. yes the Thailand International airport has places to sleep, they're called hotels, eg Amari AIRPORT Hotel, or they have day rooms. Can you leave the aiport ? Judging by your lack lustre for working stuff out on your own i would say stay in the airport unless your mum goes outside with you.
Apologies if i offended you, but exactly the same questions must have appeared at least 3 times in the last couple of months, each time with longwinded helpful responses. Do you think your stopping over on the moon ?

I'm not sure that out none RTFF-ing new friend wants to stay at the Amari - he would have to leave the airport.
He could sleep on the ground or on a bench or slip into a temporary state of oblivion in a chair. What he would have to keep in mind is that going trough immigration means paying B500 departure tax on the way back in.
OTOH if our new friend arrives in BKK before noon and his flight departs around midnight, a very likely scenario - he is traveling to Europe, he really ought to get his ass in a taxi (or take a B18 no 29 bus + the skytrain from CentralStation) and get laid in the Nana area.

Was in Bangkok for the first time last month from 21 till 25 June. Stay at a hotel at Petchaburi Rd. Very convenient to move around as BTS at Rajthevi is near the hotel. Upon touched down checked into hotel and head down to Eden Club for the first time. The girls at Eden is a mixed of pretty and common. But i must say, Eden girls are very acommodating in all aspect and know how to please. Had a good experience of threesome and gave a tip to both girls. there is a traditional massage at the airport above the departure level, opposite Pizza Hut. It is much cheaper than the massage in the Amari but I do not know if they provide additional services. If you are interested, around May 15th I posted the exact prices.

Just curious why there isn't any field report or anyone would like to share their experience on place like Ratchada? Isn't suppose to be another happening place in Bangkok? Last night went out with a few of my Thai friends. They took me to a club called Zantika in soi Ekkamai. This place has huge parking lot. It was so crowded with lots of Thai girls. All normal gals.
And lots of rich Thai guys came with their Benz, BMW, Lexus, also saw Lotus, Porsche, Jaguar, Bentley, Ferrarri, ect. Lots of high flying Thai guys. And lots of rich young farang kids. Many of them sitting out on the outdoor patio. And some of these farang kids drive big Benz, and other very nice cars with their Thai lady friends.
This place has too many competition from all these guys, I decided just to observe and drink with my Thai friends. It is a good place to hang out but getting babe maybe a little hard because there are just too many of these Thai high soc guys who will lavish on girls and drive them home in his Benz CLK.

Somehow the level is going down there, a girl came to me dancing in GoGo-girl style, having her hands within a minute where she should have it inside the bedroom, but not at a public bar. She obviously had a lot drinks before. For those who like that, recommended, but I left.

That is a great place, they opened the beer garden around the swimming pool (!). Did not see a place like this in BKK up to now. The steakhouse was empty, a big restaurant – no people inside, but around the pool outside all tables occupied.
There was a pool party yesterday, and the girls where in bikinis, always some of them in the pool. Later some guests decided to swim, too, but they forgot to undress. Was fun, not bad. Pool party every Saturday.

Later, on the way to Q-Bar I realized that Club Onze in Soi 11 was closed, quite unusual, closed on a Saturday? Somebody has any background information about what’s going on with that club? I have never been inside, what I heard is that it is a club for business guys, high level, similar to Pegasus Club, but mainly for Japanese/Korean customers.

There are black working girls in BKK and they are absolutely worth the trouble, that is, if you are craving something different from the Thai streetrats who infest Bier Garten/Thermae/Nana Disco every day and night.
I say fuck Nana Disco with it's shitty music, overpriced drinks, and worn-out old dragon ladies who look like they have been plying their diseased wares since roughly the Vietnam era. Instead, drag your old bermuda shorts- and wifebeater-clad ass over to Da Beat Disco, located in an alley adjacent to Grace Hotel that runs between Soi 3 and 3/1. Look for a small massage parlour (can't remember the name), head towards the entrance, and you will see an elevator. Enter, push '3', and prepare to enter pussy paradise.
Saturday night is the best time to go. There is a pool hall up on the 5th floor where everyone meets before the disco gets going around 12:30am. Drinks are cheap (110 baht for the jumbo-sized Heinies), the music is good, and you should never pay more than 1,000 baht for any of the ebony princesses loitering around (unlike Nana Skagfest where 1,500 is now the standard ST rate thanks to all the inebriated loverboys who make me nauseous by deep french kissing their little hooker GF's in public).
Most of the girls at Da Beat are mixed race, half-Thai / half-black, but sometimes a pure, undiluted black can be found. I have just returned from the LOS and despite having all my luggage, passport and tickets stolen by a metered taxi driver, I had what can only be descibe as the best time of my life.

If anyone is going to LOS I can thoroughly recomend Fantasia and all the girls therein. I am already planning a return in November and would like to hear from anyone who has been to Fantasia or can recomend another good bar.

Another bar you might want to check out at NEP next time you visit is called Mandarin. I found the atmosphere very nice, quite a few attractive girls dancing the night away, few customers (at least when I was there, in mid-May), so it's not too crowded. I barfined my first girl in Thailand at Mandarin, so a bit of a symbolic touch there!
Voodoo was recommended on a few other sites and I checked it out. Loud, over-crowded, quality of girls is worse than Mandarin. I did end up barfining a girl there as well, but Mandarin is miles ahead of Voodoo.

Tang, I find ZANAX works for me. It used to be everywhere in BKK but it is now difficult to find. If you don't have a problem with taking sleeping pills, one of the few pharmacies which sell it is on Patpong, (sorry, i don't know if it is 1 or 2), on the left as you walk up from Silom road. They have the real stuff and the generic. Do not bother with the generic. They come in a blister pack. Do not let them charge you more than 250B per pack. (they are light purple / pink)

GT, I've always sworn by melatonin for jet lag -- doesn't do much for me for regular sleeping (something some folks swear by) but a big dose and then going to sleep the night I arrive and I have essentially no jet lag issues at all. I've used it for years on trips all over the globe and it's always done well for me.
I'm with Juice on the other aspects -- tons of water both during the flight and when you arrive, regular stretching, as much rest and sleep as possible on the plane, though if your flight is arriving late (which a lot of the ones from Narita do) then you probably want to sleep more on the first leg of the trip than the last, lest you end up feeling too rested and wide-awake when you arrive. I try to be awake for at least the last couple of hours of the trip in that case, but it depends on your arrival time -- if you've got a flight that gets in at noon you want to be as awake and rested as possible.
Joe - originating in the US - I try to do an all-niter as much as possible the nite before the flight. Eye shades, ear plugs, a neck pillow and a portable ionizer and I'm set to nod off for the duration. Add to that a double or triple scotch and I'm out most of the way to Narita. After the 3 hours in total boredom at Narita, it's doze again after the snack (dinner, whatever) into BKK. Cab it to P'ya and get in about 2am or so. Usually so excited about BEING there, i can't sleep anyway - need a beer to relax. Go to 5am and sleep til noon - then have at it for the day.
Never tried melatonin. Usually adjust within 24 hours. (but that's me - YMMV) <envy mode /off>

BTW, for those flying to Asia from the US, i find the jet lag going pretty much non existant. Coming back is a whole other story, it takes me up to 5 days to recover.

P.S. Getting Tang - I'm no doctor (almost, though), but if I may. Jet lag occurs when one is flying from West to East. Chances are, what you are feeling when you get to BKK is your body being stiff and sore for being locked in a certain position for a long time. Per Juice's suggestion, do small excercises at several intervals throughout your flight. Also, may I suggest you stay up when you get to Bangkok until morning and sleep during the day. The way I see it, you have been to Thailand so often that you probably wouldn't do any sightseeing during the day; and, most likely, you'd be mongering all night long. Therefore, why change your sleep paterns, at all? Keep it the same and you'll have less jet-lag when you do come back. :)

Go get a freeware program called "Netstumbler" (google for it) if you have Windoze, or if you have a Mac go to Versiontracker.com and look for "Macstumbler" which is the same thing. Then just ride-around in a taxi or walk around until you find an access point -- often near coffee places or in newer office bldgs. and then you can surf for free! *Stumbler will find open hotspots for you and tell you whether WEP is on (there are ways to get around WEP but it's not worth the trouble compared to just finding an open system). I notice that I also have a longer recovery time coming home from Thailand than going there. It's probably the constant party while there that causes it. I got tired of the jet lag so I just moved there, problem solved. What!
My solution to long flights is a bottle of Nyquil bought over the counter in generic form for about 5 bucks USD. I have a shot after the meal is served and sleep all the way to Narita. I take another shot on the BKK leg and sleep for another seven hours.
When I touch down in Bangkok I am ready to go.

PL - actually benadryl (diphenhydramine) works pretty well, too. Just avoid alcohol when taking it and you need a lot of water. Stuff will knock you out for 5 - 6 hours easy. For that matter, most of the antihystamines will put you out, too. Just avoid the "non-drowsy" ones if you want to sleep. For the flight back, vallium works well, too - and you can get it there I think. $2/ minute? What you need is a wireless card - they have a 802.11g hotspot downstairs in the lounge below the 22-28 (IIRC) gates - in the "basement". Only thing is they don't do most of the web-based e-mail. ISP has the sites blocked on the wireless router
Free - NY is about equi-distant to BKK in either direction IIRC. What is there to do in Helsinki? Think of TGs?
1ball - beats me up too. usually I go to work when I get in - by the end of the day I'm ready to drop (propping eyelids open with toothpicks) - still, it takes at least 2 days more before the 14 hours gets fully slept off. Usually completely back in shape by the week-end. I tend to fly home on Mon/Tue so not counting the arrival day, the total is maybe 3 days adjustment. which is about right since the "experts" say adjustment is about 3 hours max/day. My trick of trying to do an all-niter in both directions seems to help but the 6am return leg departure is a killer. I wonder if the 5 hour nap to NRT actually makes the final arrival worse.

I just drool over the flight attendants. A simple and effective way to battle insomnia and drowsiness. Probably spent 25 min. sleeping on the way to Narita because a few were quite pretty.
BEATING JET LAG!
If you are flying from the west coast try Cathay Pacific or Eva out of LAX or SFO. Their flights leave around midnite and get to BKK late morning. Check in to your hotel then get a massage and get ready for a short evening out, but this part is very important... I come back with something alittle more expensive then Benadryl (sleeping pill bought at Nana) but after an hour or 2 KNOCKS me out.
I get up the next morning fired up!!! I've made 12 trips in 18 months and it works for me. Also taking a shower in Hong Kong before my 2 1/2 hr flight to BKK helps.

Picked up a few pretty good tips on jetlag from a Delta captain several years ago and they have served me well since.
What most of you think is jetlag may well be only dehydration. Believe it or not the humidity in the cabin of a commercial aircraft runs at about 2 to 3%. They are freeze drying us up there. This is not a problem on short flights but when you are on the long hauls over say 5 - 6 hours in the air it has a major effect on your body and can take 24 - 48 hours to shake off.
The solution is simple. Take extra bottled water on board with you and force yourself to drink extra water during the flight. Water works best, non-carbonated fruit juice is next.
Now I like a drink as much as anyone but on the long flights I wait til I get there. On the flight I drink a lot of water and arrive ready to hit the streets. El C - usually 20,000 (20K) B - but - strange twist - it CAN and sometimes is BASED ON NUMBER OF BILLS. Most machines won't dispense over 20 bills and the max bill size is 1000, so 20,000 - but - if the machine is out of 1000, then it dispenses 100's and gues what - you can't get over 2000. Also, not all ATMs work with non-Thai cards (I know - I found out the hard way) Read the notice on the machine (usually in english)
BANK matters, branch location doesn't - same rules (some banks provde smaller bills, though - I seem to remember Thai farmers bank dispensing 50's

It wicks away the sweat from your body. Cotton is excellent for this. The outer layers must be able to breathe to help dry the sweat away from the skin.

I personally like staying in the Majestic Suites near Nana when I go to the Kingdom. Is there a similar class of hotel in Chiang Mai and Pattaya? I'm planning my trip for Songkan, and I'd like to stay reasonably close to the action, and experience the festivities. Er, and other things.

You were asking about a hotel right in the middle of everything in Chiang mai. There are several to choose from. I have tried the most of them, but I think I will prefer the "Suriwongse hotel" which is located very near the night market and in Loy Kroh road which is the street with most waterholes and girls. I have never been asked about who or how many I bring to my room as well.
Nice clean rooms and friendly staff. Last time I booked my room on the internet and I payed 850 bath per night. Real good price for this standard and location.

Obvioulsly Getting Tang was not in the same Bangkok that I am in since Saturday night July 31 and Sunday night 1 Aug EVERYTHING is shut down. Soi Cowboy, Nana, and even Patpong. Soi 7 Beer Garden and Thermae were also closed.
The only action was some girls outside of the "Japanese" Soi in Patpong and the freelancers congregating in the Nana hotel parking lot. But even then the cops were coming by and scaring them away all night. (real problem was telling the girls from the lady boys!)

I just had the pleasure to visit Thailand for the first time - first Bangkok and then Koh Phangan, and I had a great time. I was travelling with my family, however, which somehow limited the ways of Thai hospitality I could enjoy.
I did have enough opportunity to get oriented and check out some of the Sois that are regularly mentioned in this forum. Hopefully I'll be able to do a stopover in BKK instead of Dubai on a business trip to OZ in autumn to make use of my new topographical knowledge.
On one of the occasions when some girls from a bar gave me the look my wife asked jokingly if she should hold me tighter whenever we pass a bar. I said yes, please, otherwise those girls will just drag me in and I can't do anything about it. Then she made the highly surprising remark "Well, no problem, as long as you don't come home with any STD."

I've have been travelling for a while and was too lazy to post but I'm sitting in the office and a bit bored so I will relate an experience I had a couple of weeks ago in Bangkok.

I doubt there is a quick way to learn to speak a little Thai.
By the way, Cathay Pacific has an Asia Pass on sale for $999 which is good for travel from US to Hong Kong and then on to any and all of their other cities in Asia. Good for 21 days of travel.
Their deal of the month is LAX or SFO to BKK for $636 or JFK to BKK for $806.

You might try Priceline.com (thanks for the tutorial JC), you might be able to get it for +/- $70.00.

What time did you go to Thermea? They close at 1AM now. I agree, certain venues are all boarded up at the usual times many of us used to just start our evenings. If you want to have an extended time and monger long, you need to start your mongering at about 8PM. 1Am comes mightly fast in Bangkok!

Funny you should ask. I was in Rio last October, Costa Rica last April and I'm headed for BKK in two weeks. My mongering actually started years ago in BKK and I'm coming full circle (pun intended). I'm more Asia-oriented (speak a couple of languages, married a Taiwanese woman for a while, etc.), but I had an amazing time in Rio, and would go back in a heartbeat. Whoever invented the Terma should be annointed for sainthood (or, maybe not).
I think the biggest difference I found was that the women in Rio really seemed to get into the sex. A totally GFE, and from what I've been told, it was not unusual. I never once felt like I was being played like an ATM.
What they don't have, though, is the carnival atmosphere you find in BKK, Pataya, etc. Help Disco on Copacabana is about as close as you come - a massive disco with wall-to-wall pros, but there is nothing like Nana Plaze, Soi Cowboy, etc.
Either way, though, you won't go wrong.

If you never went to Rio before, you should go check it out. I was active hunter in Brasil for so many years mostly in Sao Paulo and Floripa but also spent quite sometimes in Rio. Now I have moved my base to Bangkok about 8 months a year.
Rio has a great pro scene. The choice of ladies are probably one of the best in the world, only Sao Paulo may have more quality girls in Brasil. In Rio, there are countless lady night clubs(boates), discos, and lots lots of girls on the beaches both pro and amatures. If you go to Rio, you should also to some sightseeing for a few days, it is the most incredible city in the world in my view.
But the only thing is in Rio, there is small petty crimes like pick pockets and little street kids may bug you in sme way and dark streets can be a little dangrous. But recently the tourit police heavily patrol the tourist areas of Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon ect very very well. The crime is gone done a lot.
The price of hotel and ladies in Rio is generally higher than Bangkok. But Rio has much better choice of ladies, you can find any kind of look as you like, and also the city has lots more touristic values. Very nice to find a nice gal and do sightseeing and go to the beaches tigether. If you are new to Rio or Brasil scene, you should go check it out. You may be get hooked by Brasil. Thats why Brasil gets the most hunters in the world.

Thanks for info on the JW Marriott. Only trouble with buying through Priceline is that you don't know which hotel you will end up at and once you have bought it it's yours.
JB, good point. However on Sukhumvit, Priceline also offers Sheraton grande, and the Westin. Both are friendly, and compare favorably to JWM.

I made a mistake last week that was only apparent to me last night.
I've been in LOS for a few years now and consider myself to be an educated monger in Thailand.
Last week I left a disco called Sato, sukhumvit soi 103 area a little worse for ware and began to drive myself home. I'd left my mates behind and was alone in the car. As i turned left into Bangna Trad from Sukhumvit the roadworks were really heavy, so i drove slow, in doing so about 200m along this road i spotted several beauties hovering at the side of the road in definet street walking gear, i slowed some more and they approached the car, i wound down the passenger side window to get a view of a lovely rack of breasts and a smiley face, short story, 200 Baht for bbbj in a car park around the corner. You must understand that the majority of honeys that are hanging out at Thermae now are not the regulars but are go go bar girls whose establishments have faced temporary (30 day) police closures. So there is a lot of young talent there that you would not normally find. Interestingly enough the management is so afraid of the cops that they have two attendants at each entrance to check on girls that they feel are too young or are not Thai. If they appear to be O.K. then the will get a little red stamp on their back hand. Since the staff know most of the girls after one check they usually do not check again.

I'm currently in LOS and last year spent 3 months in Brazil, so I've spent a lot of time considering the Brazil vs LOS question. From the outset I will say that I am not hugely experienced, and most of my mongering in Brazil was in the North East, but here are my observations:
1) LOS seems to be much more formalised than Brazil. In LOS prices and expectations are absolutely clear from the outset. However, in Brazil there seems to be much more of a 'go with the flow' attitude on things. So LOS is better if you don't have the time or energy to mess around & you just want to get laid. Brazil seems to be better for the party.
2) The Brazilian girls I went with got much more into it in bed. Maybe they were just better actresses, but there were points when I thought - she is really into this now. The Issaan girls seem to go through the motions more - I can literally cue there little routine for them (and that's only after seeing a few of them). Brazilians were more up for letting go.
3) Brazil worked out cheaper for me than LOS. I don't think food and drinks in BKK are particularly cheap (100Bht a beer in Cowboy). Primarily, most Thai girls will insist that you pay them regardless of how good a time they've had (there are exceptions - see my report from Ko Samui). However, in NE Brazil I often found that if you dined, drank & danced with the girl & she was having a good time then money would not be asked for. Paradoxically, it's when they don't ask that I'm much happier to give ! I don't know how long my happy arrangements in Brazil will last for though, I am early 30's and not thought to be ugly. (however, in LOS and Brazil we are all 'velly hinsum man')
4) I found Brazilian Portugese much easier to pick up than Thai, so in a very short time I could converse at least at a basic level. The sounds in the Thai language are very difficult to distinguish for a thick farang like me.
5) LOS seems to be much safer than Brazil, as indicated below. I have not had any problems in LOS, that said there was one night in Recife when I passed out in a party in a favela. I woke up next morning in my hotel bed with one of Brazilian girls from our group, my wallet was on the table next to me with all my credit cards and cash totally intact.
Comparing the two countries is slightly nebulous 'cos they are different experiences. I suppose it depends how you play the places. I played Recife as one long party - I got to know people, partied on the beach & aways paid the drinks & food bill - everything else fell into place. I've met many farang in LOS who totally love it here, but many of them do seem to be competing in shag olympics; you know the sort "I took 5 out of the BierGarden in one day" etc). Both LOS & Brazil are paradise in comparison to western europe.

After 2am, you can also check out the Siam Hotel around Thong-La. I've been known to land around 11pm on the NWA from Narita and leave the house around 4am to go to the Siam Hotel. You'll see about 40 TG inside the coffeeshop and in the parking lot all looking for a score. Prices range from 1500 to 1900 bt on the most part. The TG also range from so so to 9's. Some work in MPs and are looking to supplement their incomes and others work as PR girls in the numerous karyoke bars around Petchiburi. Anyway, I have not seen that many non-Thais around as the Hotel is a big pickup joint around the bars close at 2am. But you may have some luck there.

Yup for those looking for freelance thai girls, Siam Hotel at New Petchuburi Road is the place to pick them up. I went there few occasions and picked up thai Uni Students from there.
Most charge range from 1,500Bt to 2,500Bt ST. Note also that for the Free Lance Uni Students who are arounf 19 to 22 yrs, and they stay with their parents, so alot cannot do LT but only go for ST, and is one session for the day and then they return home.
You can after selecting them form outside but the better ones of the students hang inside the hotel coffee house, then check in to the SIAM hotel which is about 450BT for ST.
There was one time we went there but no girls were in sight as there was a police raid of the place as it is a known fact alot of students free lance there.

P.S. Angel Witch (in NEP) is putting on a really tasty show beginning at 10:30pm. I completely enjoyed it last night. I'd say it is probably the best gogo show airing in Bangkok (for falangs). Go to CM2, Narzissus, Soi 33 - and you will find them. You will find them in Singapore and Hongkong...but you will have to pay more.
But - there are still many options in the Nana and Cowboy area, if you go there a bit earlier and move from bar to bar - I have no doubt that you will be able to find them.

Relax man. I needed an all night hotel last Sunday. I didn't know that I would need one until a certain chain of events occurred. You can try to guess if you like, but my point is not in the reason why but in the ability to acquire a hotel in BKK.
It took me 20 minutes to find a room. I got in a cab and told the driver I needed a hotel for the night (in Thai). He drove me around and the third hotel he took me to was a bingo! It ran me B1,100 for the night.
It wasn't great but it was workable. The room was large with two beds and a partitioned work area with table. The bathroom was satisfactory and hey... the bottled water in the fridge was on the house.
You should have no problem finding a hotel on your arrival. Take a deep breath and enjoy.

I'm with Giotto on this one. I'm not all that picky as you might have surmised. After all, I did admit to liking the show at Angel Witch, but I've been a lot of places and I'd say Bangkok is still in the top five.
Now I haven't been everywhere so all you guys that want to disagree are invited to do so, as long as you tell us your favorite place that is better. If Pattaya is your call then that's cool. I can believe it as I've been there once myself but I (stupid me) was with a lady and could not partake. I am still kicking myself for that one (three years ago).
But back to Bangkok, the numbers are in our favour. There are what 8 to 10 million people in this city? Half of them should be women and about 25 percent of those should be doable, (that's about one million women or so). 10% of this (doable) set should be 9s or 10s, another 10% should be 8's, etc.
As I've said, I'm not that picky. My rating scale starts at 5. A 5 is a girl I'd have sex with. That means there are about 500,000 women a night that I can do the deed with, ranging in price from B500 to maybe B4000. My average price is B1,500 for long time.
So the shows aren't as good as they used to be and the best looking ones have moved to greener pastures. There still isn't too much to complain about. And hey man, you can always go to Brazil or China. :)
As far as I'm concerned the gogo's are still worth a look. Heck, all of BKK is worth a look.

OK, maybe I am being both nostalgic and picky but I have reason :).
I agree CM2 is good and I got a nice freelancer out of there (8). I got a good soapy experience at Plaza (8). The go-go's however were definitely not good - my threshold is 7 and anything above 7 was a rare sight indeed. In fact, none of the go-go's have shown any inclination to go for quality. I have not been to Soi 33 I must admit. I am prepared to pay more if need be but I just could not see a good go-go and they have definitely gone down in quality.
OK, here's a challenge. If someone was prepared to pay 4,000 Baht LT for very good quality, where would they head to ?

relax, quality still there, no special places, they are everywhere just got to open your eyes. I agree that it sometimes seems to be hard to find a 9 or 10, but if you are patient one or more will show up just when you didn't expect it.
BTW, that's the reason why I keep the phone numbers of really great performers with good attitude and at least an 8 on my scale. If in need I just ring and know what to expect. It works, try it.

If guys pay more for better quality, then that is just how it is meant to be. The average price remains unaffected. The top girls can get top dollar and they know it and are told they can get it. I just want to home in on this particular market segment.
Generally speaking, the overall market has sellers who generally outnumber the buyers.

Disco in Hyatt Erivan, would be clearly my first choice in BKK to entertain business guys. No idea about Russians there, but I think there are some.
2.) Riva
Disco/Bar in Sheraton Sukhumvit, same style like Spasso, but less girls and less customers there.
3.) Pegasus Club
Expensive Mens Club close to Soi Cowboy, very exclusive. No Russians, but many well dressed well educated Thai hostesses.
4.) Office Bar

Mingman - you will find a few Russians in CM2 numbering about 20 but they are not as good as Russians in Russia, but if you want a change from the petite, sleek and friendly Thai girls then that is the place to go for surly Russians :). They seem to consider themselves a cut above the rest and ask for 5,000 Baht or more. I actually got friendly with a girl from Kazakhstan after she gave the cold shoulder to a number of guys who were hitting on her. She asked for 6,000 and then dropped to 5,000 but I decided not to go for it though she was a looker. My sixth sense told me not to go for it although she seemed friendly to me and we did have a few laughs. Sitting here now, I wish I had taken her back. In fact, on that night I went back to the hotel unaccompanied ! She did not get picked and left alone too.
Which brings me to the issue of driving prices higher. Here was someone who thought she could get over 5,000 but did not get it. Result: her prices will fall. So merely asking for a high price does not drive prices up - there needs to be buyers interested in paying higher prices for a product/service that is perceived to be better. Its just economics.
Giotto/LoveLos - thank you - I will certainly home in on the higher end places on my next visit. I prefer quality over quantity any time. I would rather have one quality girl for 4,000 Baht every other day than an average, run of the mill girl for 2,000 every day.
These days, the quality needs to be searched out more actively. In previous times, one could just end up in Cowboy or Patpong at midnight and have a choice of good looking girls.

For the benefit of others, Russian girls do not fly all the way to BKK to get $50 ! It would not make financial sense to them. I also know that they price themselves at a higher level than the Thais.
With regard to the Kazakh girl I met in CM2, the notion that she left CM2 to get a bowl of noodles makes me laugh.
Whatever I pay does not affect the entire market as I said clearly before, the market has different strata. Some posters talk about boosting prices and this seems to be a recurring theme. I am quite aware of the gogo girl rates and the beer bar girl rates, so I don't need to pay more than the market rates if I am a player in that scene. It really depends on what prices are being talked about.
What I would like to explore next is the higher end of the market (not Russian as I don't need to go to BKK to experience that as I can do that here and this evening if I choose to).

Pretty Russian girls are harder to find and they know that they have a good chance of finding a punter willing to pay over the odds what they see as a "premium service".

The reason the price has remained stable is that supply has increased as demand has increased. The increased supply in Bangkok's go-go's has been at the expense of quality. For some players, there will be a flight to quality, where inevitably the price will be higher.

I appreciate everyone's discussions concerning the prices paid for various and sundry here in the Kingdom, but it gets a little silly when certain folks decide one person is paying too much and certain other folks decide one person is paying too little.
Any civilized person knows how it feels to buy a stock below or above market price. Both of these realities happen everyday and both can be enjoyable as long as it turns out to feel profitable when all is said and done.
The beauty of this board is in the sharing of what can be gotten for what.
My price per goods consumed has ranged from B500 to B4000 in my three short years of being a merchant in kind, meaning... in my three short years of mongering in Thailand.
As par experience, I've found that I have received the best value at the extremes of my range. But most of the in betweens where worth what I gave them. My average is about 80% satisfatory and 20% lacking (but not a complete loss, as I have always been able to cum to completion).
That said, I don't like to pay more than necessary and I have found that my best experiences accepted what I gave them without a blush or a frown.
Try to have a good time and try to keep the waters clear for the rest of us.

A little late to this conversation but I have to agree with Jack Daniels on the Russian situation.
I was in BKK for a couple months last year and visited CM2 several times and was quoted 5000 baht from several different russians. I'm only 28 and in good shape so I can tell you the high price wasn't because of age or looks. Clearly these girls are getting the 5K or they wouldn't keep asking for it. Most likely its from ex-pats who want some of the white stuff to remember why they moved in the first place.

I am not certain about Thailand but in most Asian Countries the non-oriental girls always get more and most of their business is from the Asian or oriental crowd. It is considered a big thing to have a white woman in that part of the world. That is just speaking from what I have heard and personally seen in Japan, Korea and China.
I am a little surprised that the price is not even higher but I guess the Thai girls keep a check on the prices simply because of quantity and availability.

I can't speak for the russians in LOS, but in Costa Rica these ladies also command the big bucks. They can be seen more, and more, and seem to have no problem finding customers.
The reviews I've seen have been that they were mechanical and nothing special. Personally I don't put up with an airplane ride, associated costs, etc when for a few dollars more I can get that type at home.
In Costa Rica the russian pimps are also pretty obvious, controlling the ladies.

I understand there is a large dental clinic in Bangkok and the prices they quote for cosmetic dental work are quite attractive compared to what you pay in the US.
I am thinking if I take advantage of their services this trip may just be tax deductible as the purpose of the trip will be for medical purposes.

I reckon guys go for the Russian option only because it is different. The question is different for whom ? Well, it is different for farangs who live in Thailand and different for Thai men. You obviously haven't understood the reality of the Thai market. May be there is a buyers market for average or not so good loking girls, but the market for high end products is clearly a seller market. Those girls can select, and they do.
Try to "hire" the lookers in Rainbow 2 (or in Long Gun before). They are booked for days, sometimes for weeks, they visit the bar in between to pay the bar fine, for a couple of days, and they leave again. You hardly can see them dancing.
And if you give the low end products the money they want your experience will be much better, most of them will give you back much more (in service) than what you might pay too much. I don't pay more than necessary, but I also do not really negotiate with the girls, they get what they ask for, if it seams OK for me.
I simply don't care whether I overpay, from the mongers point of view. We all have enough money, the girls have not (some exceptions, which confirm the general rule).

The poster that wrote about the different venues/different prices was entirely correct. Yes there is some variation and if a gal thinks they have a 'sucker' they will increase the price. But as Giotto correctly states there are some high-end gals that are just not going to be regularly available for the bargain prices. I think what you pay depends on a variety of factors (whether the chick has a few steady guys supporting her, your proficiency in Thai, your personality, your looks, her degree of desperation, etc).
I speak Thai fairly well (10 years), know the scene, and have found my experiences getting better, not worse. Overall I pay about 1000-1500bt ST for the hottest chicks (IMHO) from NEP. I'm not sure how much LT runs. Usually not much more 1500-2000. From the street usually it's 1000-1500 lt. There was a simply stunning girl at GSpot that would not take less than 2k short time (confirmed by multiple friends of mine who all wanted her). She was usually booked within an hour of starting her shift.
At other times, if you get quoted a ridiculous price it may be that the chick simply doesn't want to go with you (but if you pay it she'll go, I doubt it will be much fun though). It's not so much about the money for me, but how the chick views you. I have a friend who works in BKK and who overpays up the butt (he will pay 4000 bt short time, no shit). I haven't seen the overall prices change just because this dude is paying exhorbant prices (although I make it clear when I'm partying with him that I don't pay what he does). He has a great time and has a little 'stable' of foxes that he supports on a monthly basis. You might poo-poo this but he seems happy and all his chicks are 9-10's with great attitudes.
Keep in mind that people who say "Thai people pay less" probably don't understand venues for Thai differ just as much as those for farang. A Thai going to a cut-rate Chiang Mai brothel might pay 150-200 bt one pop, but these are pretty nasty places IMHO with chicks that look like they are miserable, and overall getting the (usually condomless) dick round the clock. THere are also upscale karaoke-cum-gentlemen's clubs (not the clip joints) that feature chicks you might see on a billboard or magazine and there is no fucking way you are going to go home with them until you buy them gifts, garlands, cell phone, whatever. These girls basically become mia nois to many of these guys. The designated 'big shot' of a group of Thais will spend far more on an evening in these clubs than we average mongers ever will. Some of those chicks are just fucking unbelievable. If I could get one with the attitude to match the looks I might consider it.
I think the saying 'you get what you pay for' is true in some cases, false in others. There are times I get a great deal and experience all tied into one (one of my best sexual experiences came from this little sweetie off Beach road Pattaya, 500bt., course I told her I'd tip her if she 'killed me', and she certainly did!! ) but there are times you will pay more for better quality. I think a big part of it has to do with your attitude. The guys that habitually pay more money in lieu of personality or looks (age is less of a factor in Thailand IMHO) are the ones that don't get value. If the chick knows you are not a chump I think that changes the equation a bit.
In the end, the litmus test for me was did I have a good time with someone that seemed to enjoy being with me. That's where the real 'value' lies IMHO.

I think that this has been an interesting discussion and everyone understands what the market prices are.
It is up to you what you want to pay; you can just walk away if you don't like the price. It is down to you and you only. You don't owe it to others to pay a certain amount. I think that nearly all of the people who post here do understand that.

there was a raid in q bar last friday. the police locked the door, nobody got out before performing a [CodeWord109] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord109) test and having the passport checked.
2 farang were arrested after the [CodeWord109] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord109) test was positive for drugs. 104 farang had no passports with them. they were transferred to the immigration office, and somebody had to bring the passports there before they were released - after paying 1000 baht fine for not carrying the passports with them.
things get a bit more strange in this country - don't do drugs, and always take your passport with you!

Generally I carry a photo of it and keep the actual passport in the hotel safe.
I've never had a problem in Central America with this method (although I know a few that have).

you would be amazed at what you need if they decide you need it. i've never been questioned for my passport, but never been a part of a police round-up either. if they've decided that they are going to get the farangs without passports that night at a certain pub/disco, then you are going to get nicked. now that being said if you can speak some thai, or are just a really polite guy (getting into a thai policeman's face is going to have the negative results, just trust me on this), or better yet a polite nicely dressed guy who speaks thai the copy of the passport might be enough of a reason for them to let you go. then again it might not. remember they got dinged the amound of 25 bucks and lost time. i'm not going to substantially change my behavior for that.
given the odds, i'd never carry around my real passport. the chances of me losing it and having to fuck around with the us embassy are too high compared to the slight chance of being caught in a drug sting.
i believe they are using a simple reagent for [CodeWord109] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord109) that measures only methamphetamine but am not sure. i got that info from a thai cop but never confirmed it. it does make sense though. the reason for this comes down to cost. the more things you test for, the higher the overall cost. there are some things that [CodeWord109] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord109) doesn't detect anyway (like e or lsd). you would need some pretty expensive tests to check for that (ie gas chromatography).

I photocopy the page of my passport that has my picture and general information and also the page that has my entry stamp. I have it done at a print shop. They make the copies and laminate it for 20 baht.
The other day a couple of cops tried to suck me up for 500 to 1000 Baht by accusing me of throwing my cigarette butt on the street near Siam Center. It was a false accusation as I am a stickler about littering. I spent a lot of time in Singapore, understand.
Anyway, I was damn glad that I had my photocopied information with me, because, even though I am a polite guy that knows a little Thai, they kept looking at me like I was a 500 or 1000 Baht note.
They asked me where I was going and I said to A.U.A. They pretended they did not understand what that meant and kept looking at me with those greedy "I need to buy my wife a present" eyes.
Luckily for me I had a receipt of payment for thirty hours of A.U.A study time and I produced it and handed it to them. The officer looked at it and said, "Oh you go A.U.A." Was not that the same thing I just told him?!
After that they wanted to know the names of my teachers and luckily for me I was able to give them two names. After another one or two minutes of starring at my passport info and my A.U.A receipt, they let me go.
I recommend that everyone carry a photocopy of their passport and perhaps a hotel card (written in Thai) or something like I had (an A.U.A receipt).

Those litter catchers are on the bridges in front Central World Trade, in Pratunam, in Siam, be careful. They are always on the bridges looking down. I have seen them distorted 2000 bahts from some helpless old Japanese tourits in front of world trade.
And about police random checking farangs for ID. I just saw it 3 days ago in front of a bus stop on Petburi near Payathai. There were 2 young farang kids about 18 or 19 years old waiting for the bus. One was smoking cigaretts. And a patrol car came and 2 police got off and asked them for passport. I was nearby and I was afraid they will check me as well so I retreated to a more distant location and looked at what happen.
These 2 police checked the kids bags and pockets and i think the kids did not have passports and the police asked them to get in the car. And I did not know what happen after that. It was scary they can check foreingers randomly for doing nothing. Maybe they picked this 2 farang kids because one was smoking at a bus stop and they look very young.
The incidence at Q Bar was scary too. It could be you or me getting stuck in there and geting packed in patrol truck with all 120 others and with your passport in your condo and have no way to get it except yourself.
I have been in and out of Thailand for over 10 years and have never seen things like this until recently. I think its good to arrest the outlaws but the police do it too rough that infringe the rights of the 99.9% of the good folks. Thailand still is a very third world in this sense.

The last time that I had dentist treatment it was in Bangkok and I was very impressed. I paid over what I could have done in Bangkok, but I didn't want to risk poor workmanship on my crown jewels!
The place is a taxi ride from Sukumvit but worth it. The lady in charge of the practice is the director of endodontics, UCLA School of Dentistry in LA, California. She travels frequently between Bangkok and LA.
As I only needed standard treatment (fillings, cleaning etc) someone else did it, but it's a top notch practice. It wasn't cheap by Thai standards but compared to the UK, it was a great deal.

I was out yesterday and realized, that we are obviously in the pre-election law- and order period.
All bars and discos are closing at 1 o'clock in the moment. I am not sure about Patpong, Ratchada and RCA, I not go there, but the Sukhumvit areas, Siam and Thong Lo venues are all closing doors that early now.
It should have something to do with the election of the Bangkok governor next weekend. Then it normally changes back 1 or 2 weeks after the election, but somehow I am not sure that this will happen this time. After the PMs failed attempt to close all bars on midnight earlier this year and the new zoning of entertainment areas this could be the implementation of earlier closing time through the backdoor. It would not be the first time that the government is doing it this way.
Luckily it is only a Bangkok phenomenon in the moment. In Pattaya, Samui and Phuket the closing time of bars is still 2 o'clock.

I go to Q-Bar once a week (friday or Saturday night) since december 2002 and I never see a russian prostitute in Q-Bar.
About the rate of pros, semi-pros and non-pros thai girls in Q-Bar it's really hard to give reliable figures but I can tell you that the non-pros girls are just a few. Q-Bar takes a cover charge of 600 baht per person. That means, that regular Thai women and the beergarden Soi 7 girls usually do not go there, except - the girl wants to find someone who returns the cover charge to her plus some "return of invest".
It is furthermore a venue for younger people, students, some hi-so girls, you not see many customers older than 40 in there.
At least half of the girls in there are in the business. Groups of girls from Soi 33 and also from some Nana gogos pay bar for themselves and go there, to pick up customers, if Soi 33 / Nana is not busy. The beergarden / Gulliver girls usually shift to CM2, Novotel later in the night.

some other takeaways
checking out the bars along soi cowboy was disappointing. mostly low quality girls both dancing and talking to guests; no comparison to gems at mps and nana disco. the selection around nana is huge but many of the freelancers appear very young. befriended some "normal" chicks at siam and q bar but the process is often too lengthy and there is the danger of trouble later when they do not stop calling or following you. shopping in bkk is fun, but there are fewer shops selling pirated software at the moment, panthip plaza is no longer the place for it. what can be really annoying these days are the regular police raids, often targeting foreigners. while i was in bkk, the police checked q bar for drugs and nabbed according to bangkok post over 100 foreigners for not carrying their passports. was also told that some weeks ago, the guys in brown uniform sealed off one of the patpong sois and everyone had to do [CodeWord109] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord109) testing for drugs – so watch out if you fly in from amsterdam. nevertheless, bkk is one of the top fun places. enjoy!

3 days so far in bkk. i'll write a longer report when i get back. but here's a quick run down.

FYI;
I just wanted to put my two cents in on the passport thing. I did some research and you need to carry a copy of your passport with you at all times. I have always been told to put my passport up and not carry it unless I know I will need it. I do carry my D.L. usually but with this information about the police and stops I will also carry a copy of my passport also.
One other thing, I have been told that it is best to also have a copy of your Birth Certificate and Passport tucked away in your suitcase. If you loose your passport then you can go to the embassy and get a temp. Fewer questions and less hassel.

Believe it or not I got a HJ at the beauty salon inside the airport a couple of months ago.

Some Notes on Soi Cowboy
There have been many changes to the bars along Soi Cowboy during the past few years. Some have merged and have grown bigger. Some have changed ownership, have renovated and do not resemble the originals anymore. There have even been upsetting rumours of rezoning.
There are four bars that I know of that belonged to two co-owners, khun Sorn , a beautiful Thai lady and Steve, an Australian. These bars have withstood the ravages of time and have remained cosy, friendly and a great place to have a drink or a chat.The four bars have the same kind of operations, have similar layouts and a wonderful bunch of Isaan girls.
In each of the bars one can find the girls grouped into three categories. The first group is the cashiers and bartendees. These are young, fresh and cute little things almost all from Kalasin, Khun Sorn’s home province. Most sleep upstairs in dormitory-like rooms. Many customers, especially farangs, have tried to "have a meaningful conversation in more conducive surroundings). As far as I know, none or almost none have succeeded. Why? Because Khun is very jealous of her brood and ( I guess) she also acts as a “protector” other than an employer. (So what to do? Send in a bridal car, what else? Haha )
The second group are of course the dancers. They can be bar-fined and taken out for “dinner” or “shopping” ( Gan-ging yin sia leew. Yak dai khong mai, Ok? teeruk? ). Once in a while, one can find new recruits fresh from the villages. Chok-dee to you.
The third group are the free lancers. These are also from Isaan ( all over) and are usually older. They are “registered” at the bar and therefore need to be bar-fined before taken out. This group tends to speak more loudly, they shout rather than converse ( Can’t bring her home to Great-aunt Sophie, can you?).
The two bosses are polite and friendly people. They will be moving around the four bars unobtrusively though they will greet you if you are a regular patron. They have always greeted me with smiles or send a beer up to me through one of the girls behind the counter.
The bars? They are Toy Bar, Moonshine Joint, Fanny’s and Jungle Jim. At certain of them you can get a discrete HJ. I have not noticed any BJ being carried out.

Bangkok Trip Report 29 Jul to 14 Aug 04
Preface: The reader must take into consideration that the writer lived in Bangkok for four years from 99 to 03 employed by a US "entity" with all the perks of free housing, electricity, water, and duty free privileges, etc. So this trip was his first "vacation" in the Land of Smiles so he was very familiar with the Thailand scene so no learning curve was needed. Also for clarification the Thai Baht was hovering around 41 to the USD during my stay. Those of you that deal in Euros can do the math yourselves.
This trip is not intended to be a primer on the Thai night life scene since there are various forums that cover the subject better than this writer could ever hope to. As they say "just Google it".
Day 1
Arrived on Lufthansa from Frankfurt half an hour early and was the first through immigration and believe it or not my bag was the third off the carousel. Took a taxi to my hotel on Sukumvit and Soi 19 and arrived in my room just an hour after landing.
After changing clothes caught the Sky Train to National Stadium station which leads you directly to MBK Center which has the largest number of cell phone shops / counters in Bangkok. Purchased a SIM card which was also a new number for my office issued cell phone. Phone did not need to be unlocked and in fifteen minutes was using the Orange network. Word of advice; would recommend DTAC One two Call instead of Orange since it gives you more bang for your buck for a short period. Orange is OK if you are going to be there for a couple of months since their free minutes kick in after your first month. DTAC on the other hand allows you to purchase fewer initial minutes and then just add them as you need them.
After I solved the cell phone problem, perused the computer software selection in the same area and since they had nothing I need went and got a foot massage. For the uninitiated foot massages are in a world all their own and the best are in Thailand. I personally don't like a full Thai Massage and you won't hear any information about "soapies" since they fit in the category of short times, not my forte.
Got back on the Sky Train and got off at Nana Station which is actually at Soi 7 and Sukumvit, location of the famous Beer Garden, hangout for the most diverse selection of free lancers in Bangkok. Soi 7 Beer Garden beats Thermae (IMHO) due to the selection and the fact that the girls start showing up at 3 P.M. until 10 or so. The selection is also varied in that some are go- go bar girls looking for a short time before they go to work, office and shop girls looking to make some extra money after work, and of course the full time free lancers. The only down side is that it is some times too early if you are looking for a long time. But is short timers’ heaven even if you don't have a hotel since there are numerous short time hotels in the area. (Note for the married guys going to LOS with the wife, just tell her you are going to have a foot massage and for her to enjoy shopping)
I stayed at the Beer Garden from around 5 to 8 and when I could not spot any girls that I knew from the past I met Dang who engaged me in a conversation. She was cute and stated that she didn't come to the BG very often since she had a job as a seamstress. One of the things that I have learned from this trip is to check the Thai calendar before you plan a trip. My failure to do so resulted in having three days where ALL the bars were closed. The 31st of July and the 1st of August were Buddhist holydays and everything was closed. Later in the second week 12 Aug was the Queens birthday, which is also when the Thaïs celebrate Mothers Day. Soi Cowboy, Nana Plaza, and even Patpong were closed down. The Beer Garden was open during the day but had to close at 6 so there wasn't much action unless you had made previous plans. I would have had pre booked Ann but since she was starting her period decided that I would just call Day 3 a rest day.
Day 4
Since there was no action in all the regular spots tried Nana Hotel's lobby and parking lot where after the bar closing a lot of girls congregate. One of the dangers of the Nana Hotel parking lot is the presence of lots of "lady boys". You must be very careful since many of the boys are dead ringers for some really good looking girls and it takes a knack to spot them. I have never made the mistake but have heard numerous horror stories of those that have. Although there are some punters that like lady boys for their oral skills. But as previously reported different strokes for different folks.
Of all the girls milling around got into a conversation with Bee and after our negotiation session proceeded to my hotel. Despite all her promises of a DFK and GFE she turned out to be a dead fish that was screwed once and the given 1,000 THB and sent on her way.
