I made the mistake last year of not following O"Toole's advice. I went in there on a weekday because it seemed to be the only bar busy, and it seemed fun. The "girls" were giving DFK while talking to potential customers.

Ceefo I headed for Tijuana on Sunday during the day. Very slow, maybe because it was Sunday, not many girls out, and many cops in the streets near AB, and around the blocks just watching, some on police cars just patrolling, and watching everyone very carefully. Does the time of day factor into price? Cheaper in day than at night?

Time really has no factor. but at 3 a.m. chicas are trying to get their last gringo for the night. at 3 a.m. their also tired and are more inclined to rush you unless she is nice or likes you. Yeah, I'm in Culver City actually. Only been to TJ once. Kinda itching to go because it's too risky to try and get action in LA, at least from SW. Haven't tried AMP yet, not sure if it's worth the money.
Went down south this past Friday to check it out. Never been before so it was a newbie experience. It's a different world down there. But got comfortable fairly quickly. Didn't take anything then except the beer. Did some bar hopping just to see what it's like. On Sat, went straight to Adel with 3 other buddies. How long does it take you guys to get back across the border after a satisfying visit to TJ? 10 minutes shortest to 2 hours longest (weekend) makes it difficult.

Had to take the day off work to fix my car so figured what the hell, and drove down to the border. I live in the San Fernando Valley so it was a two hour drive. Got to AB at 1pm and to me it seems the amount of girls there were either the same or close to the same amount of girls there on the one other time I've been there which was a Saturday. You didn't have a big 'N' for Newbie painted on your forehead, did you? 8^) SG's are still 20 (plus 4 or 5 for room), day or night.
However, don't forget to negotiate for extras on the street, before you agree to go up with her. Say 'sin ropa' to her and see if she agrees, otherwise she'll charge you $10 extra in the room to get naked.
I didn't negotiate for BJ on the street, ended up paying extra $10, but $30 is still not bad. $50 to $60 is what you should expect to be the normal price for a club girl, not a SG.

What the hell was with the line today coming back into San Diego (walking), about 12 noon? I've never seen it that long. Hi again. Haven't checked the forum in several days (extremely busy getting ready for this week's business trip).

I see guys asking about a few topics: the bus to TJ, the Red MexicoCoach at $1.50 each way, goes from the Border Parking on the west side of Intersate 5, to the Bus/tourist place near the Jai Alai place on La Revolution, between 6th and 7th.
From there to La Zona: Go/walk north, to the left as you exit to La Revolution, down to 1st street (La Primera), jog left, see the street girls, bars, etc. Catch it back from the station if you like, last run is at 9 pm, there maybe a long line of tourists with shoping bags.
There is another bus, the Mexican bluebird leaves on the same 15 minute schedule from the Mexican station on Madera and La Primera. Same price, but a nearly empty bus to the San Ysidro trolley stop, go in the station before 9 pm, stand there like a gringo near the buses, with $1.50 in your hand.
I only pay cabs $5, unless there are 2 or 3 of us.
Bringing back booze? One litre per adult, best buys are the grocery stores like 24-hour Gigante, yes the one there on La Revolution between 3rd and 4th. They have sales just like US groceries.

Thanks for posting this link. I was wondering who to report my recent incident to. Completely bogus arrest and extortion by TJ cops. I have the names of the officers and want to press charges, file lawsuits, or whatever else is possible in Mexico. My friend and I were walking around La Zona in TJ, the night of Tuesday July 22/early morning of Wednesday July 23. We got approached by three chicas. They tried to feel us up and pick our pockets. Within a few seconds two cops pulled up, chased the chicas away, held us up to their car, searched us, making us empty our pockets and count our money, then made us get in their patrol car. We are two forty-something working stiffs and definitely not any criminal profile types. Never broken a law in TJ or US. We had nothing on us except cash, though I'm well aware that they could plant whatever they wanted or say whatever they wanted. Anyway, they drive us off, saying that those were transexuals we were "talking to" and that's a crime in Mexico and 36 hours in jail is what we earned ourselves. "Talking to them"! We were trying to "avoid" them! And just TALKING to someone is against the law?! All bullshit of course, but we're in the back of the car headed for the station. Fine is 1500 Pesos each we're told - $150. Sorry officers, we don't have it. And we don't understand what it is we did, we say. About 30 minutes driving around, being intimidated about this and that and them figuring out just how much money we had. They of course knew this, because they just had us bent over their car making us empty our pockets and count our money. We asked if we could keep $5 for taxi to get back to the border. No, they would drop us off near the border - the last $5 was theirs too. And they dropped us off and headed back for their next victims. What bullshit. I know it's Mexico and we go there knowing the dangers. But I spent about $5,000 there last year. All going to bars/businesses in TJ. That'll be zero for me this year - thanks to these rogue cops. If anyone has phone numbers or whatever for authorities in TJ trying to stop this - not for my sake, but for TJ's sake - I will go and see them and file whatever reports I have to to press charges, file lawsuits, whatever. The one cop's name was Carlos Alvarado. He was the one searching me and forcing me into the car. I didn't catch the other cops name - the one working my buddy. They were driving a patrol car with a license plate that read "POLICIA BC" on the top and "2265" below. The car was presumably assigned to them the night of July 22, so there should be a record of who exactly had that car that night. I hope someone reading this can pass the info along to whoever can run these Piranhas out of town/put THEM in jail. And post here if they need anything more from me to press whatever charges. I hope everyone else who has specifics on Cop Extortion will post it here and on the other TJ sites, so that info can be passed along to whatever Mexican authorities can take care of these thieves hiding behind their badges and their guns. - HoMaster

This sucks! I have had the TJ cops pull up on my buddy and I a few times in the zona but all they did was search us and ask us what we were doing, they did not go as far as taking our money or anything like that. They just us asked where we worked and shit like that, than let us go. But still they stopped us for no apparent reason.
I herd a story few months back about a short black guy in the bathroom at AB that the cops/security came in and frisked him and then took his $180.00 and then made him leave AB and told him to never come back. Not sure how much truth there is to this story but if anything like this ever happened to me I would probably never return to Mexico to spend a cent of my hard earned money

I have had the TJ cops pull up on my buddy and I a few times in the zona but all they did was search us and ask us what we were doing, they did not go as far as taking our money or anything like that. Not sure how much truth there is to this story but if anything like this ever happened to me I would probably never return to Mexico to spend a cent of my hard earned money If they didn't take your money they are well within their rights. The have no 4th amendment in TJ so indiscriminate searches are legal. But the story of the black guy being frisk in the bathroom of AB seems unlikely. Though I've only been there a few times I never had a problem with any of the people and always receive excellent service. Besides, I'm sure AB has some kind of understanding with local law enforcement about these things.

Took my 3rd trip down to TJ this past Saturday, and had a decent time of it.
Got to the border about 7pm and headed over to AB. The strip show was in full bloom with some hot, large breasted, shorted hair blonde that looked very American. TIJUANA — In an ongoing fight to combat corruption, the city attorney has accused 16 police officers of extorting hundreds of dollars from American tourists by falsely accusing them of crimes and threatening to throw them in jail.
The officers could be fired for their participation in the alleged extortion plots, which authorities say took place in the city's tourist zone from November through June. They also could face criminal investigations.
The administrative cases are believed to be the first of their kind in Tijuana, a city working to shed its Wild West reputation and reinvent itself as a family-friendly destination.
"We are taking steps to return confidence to all the people who visit here," said City Atty. Martin Dominguez Chiu.
Eight Americans complained to the U.S. Consulate in Tijuana, which referred the cases to the city attorney's office and is helping guide the Americans through the process.
Five administrative hearings have taken place, and three more are expected to be held in the coming weeks. After each hearing, a panel of six city officials and private citizens will determine whether the officers are guilty and decide what, if any, sanctions to impose. No decisions have been made, but the city attorney said he was recommending that all but two of the officers be fired.
The tourists, who are from California and Nevada, were forced to pay $70 to $600 to be let out of police cars or to avoid going to jail, authorities said. A few Americans were forced to take money out of ATMs, said Al Anzaldua, chief of American citizen services at the consulate. One man was pushed up against a wall while his pockets were searched, Anzaldua said.
Most of the Americans were accused by officers of having illegal drugs or medication, authorities said. Michael Wilson of Las Vegas and at least one other tourist also filed complaints with the district attorney for the Mexican state of Baja California, which could lead to a criminal investigation.
Wilson, 43, was visiting Tijuana in March and walking along Avenida Revolucion with a friend when two officers stopped them. The officers searched the pair and then held up two small packets, accusing them of having cocaine, Wilson said. The officers handcuffed the Americans and put the two in the back of the police car, warning that they were going to be jailed for at least three months, Wilson said. He said that he didn't have any cocaine and that the packets were planted.
Wilson said the officers originally asked for $3,000, but settled for $500 and released him and his friend after being paid. Wilson said he hadn't originally filed a complaint, but decided once he got home that he had to come forward.
"I didn't want to let it go," he said. "It was embarrassing; it was humiliating. I don't care if it's a foreign country or not, they can't do that to me." Wilson said he believes the strong-arm tactics will decrease if more Americans publicly complain.
Anzaldua said that it is not new for tourists to tell consular officials they have been victims of extortion but that, in the past, the city hasn't gone to such lengths to hold officers accountable.
"As far as I know, this is unprecedented," he said, adding that he was pleased with the high level of initiative and cooperation by city leaders. Tourists also are more willing now to report their experiences to Mexican authorities, he said.
The number of crooked officers is a small minority on a force of 1,500, Anzaldua said, but police corruption still keeps many Americans from visiting Mexico. "Millions of dollars in tourism have been lost because of this problem," he said.
City leaders have taken several steps recently to make Tijuana's streets safer, to rein in corrupt officers and to improve the Police Department's image. Cameras have been installed along Avenida Revolucion. Tijuana also is educating visitors about their rights, issuing a legal guide for tourists and urging them not to pay bribes to police.
About 40 officers have been fired since the beginning of 2002, primarily for drug use, said Martin Dominguez Rocha, Tijuana's head of public safety. This is the first time that officers might be fired for extorting money from American tourists, he said.
Dominguez Rocha said he wants to ensure that officers don't use their uniforms and badges to scare tourists into thinking they have committed crimes and into paying illegal fines.
"The goal is to maintain a discipline of respect for the law, the regulations of the department and the rights of the citizens," he said. "It's just as serious, whether they extort one dollar or a million dollars."
Police Chief Francisco Arellano said the tourists' willingness to come forward shows that they trust the city to conduct investigations and to punish officers if they are guilty.
Arellano said extortion cases are isolated within his department. "They aren't common," he said, "but they shouldn't happen at all."

Before I head out (pun intended?) tonight, just wanted to sketch a few of last night's scenes for you.
Madonas is a relatively small club, maybe 5000 sq feet? On a Monday night around 11:30 PM, not many people there - probably about 15 guys; 1/3 gringo variety (me) and 2/3 hispanic. about 8 girls working the dance floor (rotation). but it's not all-nude (close, though). I agree with Pokey. The biggest waste of money in TJ is massage parlors. If you want massage only, you can get a good massage here in the states for the same price $40/hour. Heck, in TJ, you only get 10 minutes or so of massage because they are in a hurry to get you in the mood and then go for the home run which is usually $100/FS. If you go there for sex, you must be out of your mind paying $140 total(10 min massage and FS). Even the girls there are usually below the quality of those you see in AB or CC. Unless your hobby is throwing money away, I would recommend to steer clear from those massage parlors in TJ.

Went down to TJ last Thursday for the first time and asked to go to Aztec massage for a plain massage based on reviews. Of course the cab ignores me and took me to to a FS place behind La Tropa hotel. This place is called El Campamento and is actually nice inside but located in a dirty alley behind the hotel. Apparently they are paying big cash to get every hawker and cabbie to bring people there. Don't do it. I got a weak 15 minute massage for $40 then she asks what else I want. Asks for 100 for FS. I've never taken a taxi in TJ in my whole life. Having grown up in San Diego, I've learned how to walk around Tiajuana. Even at night it's safer than many parts of LA. And I usually go alone. The Zona Norte is nothing compared to Watts.
When I drive to San Ysidro, I just park on the street. Why pay $4 or whatever for parking? I walk a few blocks more to get there, but we can all use the exercise.

It's funny you go there on a Friday night and its not busy. The good thing is it's easy to get 40. On Saturday, there's more girls but it's tougher to get 40. I've also been told by several others you can get some variety from 8am - 5pm that are pretty hot. So, take your preference.

Actually, that was one approach I tried last week. Difference is, instead of trying it at AB or CC or some other type of bar, I tried it at Madonas [a strip club that is also a bar]. Yes it is in the San Bernardino area. The city is Fontana and parts of other cities, lots of Massage places off Valley, east of Sierra.
I only tried two places in that area but they were great.

I have always preferred Hong Kong to the other places simply for the lack of an assembly line feeling to the girls. You can sit down, have a few beers and not get the high pressure sale.

I really depends on the girl, most of them want to get right back in and find another guy. Especially on a Fri or Sat. I know some guys will even wait outside the bar so they can get the girl as she is walking down the stairs.
As far as the number of times you can go with a chica in an hour and the cost it all has to be negotiated. Most girls want twice the normal rate. So if you normally pay $50 than just pay $100 for an hour. The only other thing is you'll have to pay $22 for the room. But I would make sure to inform the chica that you expect to get 2 pops in that hour.
As far as the money thing goes if it's the first time with the girl I pay them first, but if the girl knows me it's never an issue, what I would do if your paying for an hour is only pay them half to start and the other half at the end.

Well, yet another interesting visit to Mexico.
If you can call TJ that, of course. I went there this wknd for a little visit after an Albacore fishing trip, and, little did I know how much could happen in 4 hours. I've found a decent spot for parking called "Sara's parking" on Articulo 123, (one block south of Coahuila) north side of the street btw Ninos Heroes & Constitucion. $1.25 per hour, plus I tip $1 for good faith. Never any problems yet.
So, after parking, I decided to hit up Peanuts Strip club, on Revolucion. I've always had a good time there. I walk straight there, telling the hawkers I'm already going there, so as to avoid the tip, and walk in to get change, and find myself a seat. I got pestered a few times by the meseras asking if I wanted a drink. "No gracias" was enough to chase them off for a song or two.

Had one of the worst TJ trips in recent memory.
I didn't like the way the show started. Driving from OC, I ran into a huge traffic jam around OceanSide at about 6 PM so I decided to exit the freeway and get something to eat. The waitress at Denny's brought to me a wrong order so I knew it wasn't going to be a pleasant day. I was trying to get on the freeway 5 afterwards but made a wrong turn and ended up at Camp Pendleton marine base. The military guy at the check point asked me where I was going and I said I made a wrong turn and was trying to turn around. He told me to turn around at the next stop but I missed the street and ended up going a few more blocks into the marine base town. As I was turning aound, I got pulled over by two military police cars with guys equipped with automatic machine guns. After checking my ID, they escorted me back out of the marine base. With terrorist alert so high, marine base was probably the last place I want to be wandering around. Maybe they thought I was a terrorist from N korea with nuclear bomb in my car. LOL

Was in TJ last weekend and went to my usual haunts - Unicornio and Isis - BMWs (Big Mexican Women) all over ("cows and sows"). Drank my beer and went back to my room and sacked out
to those who don't know - IF you want to experience a TJ local bus ride, just go past the taxis and on the other side of the road the blue/white busses stop. Find one that either says "CENTRO" ora tout shouting "centro" and you will get to 3rd and Revolution for 50 cents (go in pairs and it's a dollar for 2 guys) it obviously helps if you speak the language, too. Busses start at about 6am (run down 2nd any say LINEA - it means line or in the local vernacular "border". Last bus from the linea stop to centro leaves at about 10pm or so.

Had a scary experience at Peanuts & Beer on Revolucion early this (Sun.) morning. I had heard some good things about this place, but had only been there very briefly once or twice some years ago. MORE ON THE TV PROBLEM:
Immediately, after my Peanuts & Beer experience, I was walking down Revolucion past Aloha club, and outside there were two obvious men dressed as women, one looked like a linebacker. I have been to TJ many, many times and always thought the TV thing was exaggerated as a result of homophobia, as I had very few encounters I even thought were suspicious. Granted, I usually stick to the Zona or the high end clubs like Madona's and Lord Black, but I have also been to many of the other strip clubs on Revolucion. I had heard about Bambi and Sans Souci and their reputation for TVs, so I have always just avoided those places.
However, in addition to my experience at Peanuts early this morning, I was at Amnesia a week or two ago. Amnesia is a new, very nice strip club near Lord Black that has the nicest, most upscale atmosphere in TJ. Prior to this, I had been there once before and thought the girls looked good at that time. However, on my last visit, the girls were almost uniformly ugly, and I was approached at one point by a very tall blonde with smeared lipstick whom I was relatively certain was a TV. I know some people have various advice on how to spot a TV, but some look very feminine and so I think the dead give-away is the voice, and when one is paying close attention, one can usually also spot the fact that the person is mimicking how a women behaves and speaks rather than actually being a women. Although I am usually very polite, I was very rude at Amnesia as it was such a shock, and I bolted immediately. It was later confirmed to me by someone who used to work there that there are 2-3 TVs there.
All of this has me perplexed, and I welcome comments. Why do strip clubs in TJ catering to heterosexual men allow TVs to work there? I have never heard of this happening in the United States, at least not commonly. In the US, there may be clubs with TVs but that is what they are known for. It would be death to a mainstream strip club to have it be known TVs are working there. This horrifies most red-blood American males. So, it makes sense to me that clubs like Bambi or Sans Souci exist in TJ, as they are known as places that have TVs and if that is what one wants, these clubs fill that market. But it baffles me why TJ strip clubs that appeal to heterosexual men, like Peanuts & Beer and Amnesia, would allow their customers to potentially be deceived, and suffer all the negatives that would result from that.
Is this a cultural difference with Mexico? Maybe TVs are more acceptable there and it is thought of as no big deal. I cannot imagine this is the case, given the "machismo" culture. Or perhaps this just exists in clubs on the border catering to Americans, as perhaps they think gringos are stupid and they like playing games with us in this regard? But this makes no sense either because the profit motive would seem to trump all.
I guess perhaps some of these clubs on the border--as evidenced by some of the rip-off schemes with short-changing customers and so forth--don't care about or count on repeat business anyway, and are just looking for sucker tourists who happen by. Maybe this is part of it.
I also have thought that perhaps the club owners don't always know a person is a TV. A possible explanation for the Peanuts & Beer's dancers surprising reaction in agreeing to get my money back may have been out of concern I would complain to management that he was a man. But, then again, it is hard to believe the management does not know, given that dancers at these clubs usually have to do floor shows at least topless, and TVs would be exposed quickly if they were not exempted from such requirements.
Or perhaps some of these clubs are very hard up for talent, and therefore are willing to take TVs in the hope they go undetected. My Amnesia experience lends credence to this theory, as I do believe that a lot of girls who were there when it opened then left, and judging by the huge talent drop off, the club obviously has had a hard time attracting attractive girls. Again, though, it is hard to imagine that the talent pool is so dry that a club must resort to TVs and hope no one notices.

I believe that in Latin American culture, one is considered a heterosexual if one is doing the penetrating, regardless of what sex the person is who is being penetrated. Sundevil might be correct in his statement, I also believe that once you leave the US sex is viewed as a good thing and not something to be ashamed of. So alot of guys in other countries can consider themselves as hetrosexuales but allow a man that looks like a woman to give them a blowjob. Interesting comments. At first blush, it is difficult to believe or accept that there is such a huge cultural difference, and that sexual contact by heterosexual men with other men is not taboo as long as the hetero man is the penetrator or the other man involved looks like a woman. But, assuming you are correct, I guess this is what is the essence of cultural differences--we just see things differently and there is not necessarily any understandable (to us) reason for why the difference exists.
As for the clubs on Revolucion, I usually do not go to them for sex, but rather I usually go there for a typical strip club experience, and sometimes hook up. It is nice not to be hit up constantly about going to the room. The better ones--Madona's, Lord Black, Boleros--feature very attractive women, who I think work there rather than the Zona because they do not want to be prostitutes, or at least to think of themselves that way. And they are attractive enough not to have to have actual sex to make money with their bodies. Many of them will not under any circumstances have sex for money. Others will do so for the right person and at the right price, but do not at all think of themselves as prostitutes.
As for the other strip clubs along Revolucion, I agree they are typically prostitution outlets and it is difficult to understand why the girls don't just work in the Zona. I think perhaps it has to do with the stigma of working there and the psychological hurdle that each girl must leap before doing so. I mean, once you are working in the Zona, you have to admit to yourself you are a prostitute.

The best place during the day time would be AB and the alley. You can get there as early as 10 am and you can pick your girls from the alley for $25 (room included). Have breakfast then head to AB ($50 plus $11 for room and $1 tip for the cleaning boy).

The alley is the road immediately behind Adelita Bar, I believe its official name is Callejon Coahuila. There are a handful of bars (Miami/Hong Kong, La Carreta, etc.) but the primary attraction is the street girls. The street girls stand on the sidewalk shoulder to shoulder and wait for customers to walk up. The general rate is $20 for 20 minutes and $5 for the hotel. A word of warning though, you need to outline exactly what you have in mind before you go up or the girl is liable to start springing extra charges on you. If you have any other questions, everything has already been asked a thousand times so just do a forum search.

Then he takes us to "new" Chicago club - "same owner", but new location. It's way on the other end of Revolucion Ave, called "Black Lord". Now nothing was wrong with the club, except it's a strip joint and the cover was 8 bucks, and beers 4 dollars each. Saw some real cute chicks, some guys sitting next to us told us it's around 150 bucks to get laid there (not verified). Lap dances 10 at your table, and 20 private room per song. (then why drive to TJ - prices in LA and San Deigo are about same).
We asked around about what was going on in Chicago club area, and nobody heard of anything. Long story short, we left there and took a cab to Chicago club. I checked out the scene on fri. I arrived early (6 p.m.) That was way too early because only 65% of the force was out and the pickings were slim. Are any of you guys worried about STDS, especially HIV? I read alot of your reports and almost none of them, if any, mention anything with concerns of STDs.

The taxi scam you mentioned has nothing to do with the police. What has happened in TJ is the cab companies are getting into a little war. If you look on the street in front of AB you see green and white cabs, CC has yellow or taxi libre cabs. The last time I went down to TJ I asked the cab driver to take me to CC. Now this is a taxi I got when I walked across and he told me some story about CC being closed and he tried to get me to go elsewhere. I knew this was BS since my girl would tell me if they are closed or not. So I told him just to drop me off anyways and if it was closed I would go to AB. After still trying to convince me that the place is closed and me insisting to take me he gave me the info. He told me that CC no longer pays a commision to the taxi drivers for bringing people to the club. So he asked if I would mind getting dropped off at AB so he can get his commision and then I could walk to TJ.
Now for me I have no idea what the clubs pay them but I told him I didn't mind but I was only paying $5 for the ride and not to ask for a tip. He seemed happy about that and I got out infront of AB and walked over to CC.
In the old days I could see the clubs paying the taxis to bring tourists to the bars,but CC knows that 90% of the guys ask to be taken to the club so why pay the cabbie for not doing a thing. I also think the clubs got made at the cab drivers for trying to talk people into going to the massage places when they have asked to go to the clubs.
It will all get worked out soon and shouldn't keep anyone from going to anybar. Also if you want to get a cheaper taxi turn right when walking across and get a taxi out infront of the new McDonalds. These guys are more independent and won't give you as much BS.

No line after 10:30 pm at the border. You can walk to the border from AB. I don't know about later hours. It may be dangerous, so I recommend taxi at those later times.Never, ever walk to the border after dark. I made the mistake once. I reached the pedstrian bridge at 9:00pm, and a local who spoke very good English started walking and talking with me at the top of the ramp.

POLICE WARNING:
Usually this forum contains warnings about TJ police. Ironically, while I have been a Tijuana regular for the past few years, I have never had the slightest problem with TJ police. However, recent events compel me to issue a warning about the San Diego Police in the border area.
In the past several weeks, I have twice been stopped by the police in San Ysidro (patrolled by SDPD) for pretextual reasons (a license plate violation!), for which no ticket was issued. The second cop even volunteered that this was a pretextual reason to stop me. The real reason? Simply to check if I was driving under the influence. Obviously, given the lack of probable cause, this is unconstitutional behavior by the police. In fact, in both instances, I had not been drinking (thank goodness). I was stopped for no reason whatsoever except that it was late at night/early in the morning and the cops saw me exiting the $7 parking lot next to the duty free shop.
While I disapprove of driving under the influence, and that is a problem in the border area, I disapprove of unconstitutional police behavior even more. Therefore, I warn one and all to not park in the $7 parking lot by the duty free shop if you plan to drink while in Tijuana. I can attest that driving on the streets of San Ysidro late in the evening subjects one to random police stops. If you don't want to be randomly stopped, far better to park in the lot on the other side of the overpass from which it is about 15 yards to the I-5 on-ramp. Once you are on I-5, there is much less chance of random stops because I-5 is patrolled by CHP. Of course, I have heard that there is the occasional sobriety checkpoint on I-5, but I have never seen this and I think they announce them in advance in any event.
By the way, the second cop asked me what I was doing in Tijuana. I said "visiting friends." No fool, he gave a knowing smirk.

Interesting to hear your perspective as a first time visitor to TJ. I agree with Metal Mickey that weekends at Adelitas are tough. One is very likely to get poor, rushed service, not to mention that in the Summer it is oppressively hot in that place due to the crowds and lack of air conditioning (for Christ's sake, why can't the owners of AB and CC invest in air conditioning given the profits each rakes in?). Adelita's is not my favorite place at any time, but I avoid it like the plague on weekends. One reason I don't like it is due to exactly what you describe--rushed, mechanical service, which even occurs after affectionate exchanges in the bar.
Having said that, it is possible to have good experiences there and if you keep going back your judgment will improve about which girls to pick. Personally, I think the longer the girl has worked there, the more likely she is to give mechanical service. Avoid girls who have been there for more than 3-6 months. I know there are some well-known exceptions to this rule, but experience has proven it to be generally a good rule of thumb.
And actually, I define good service by an Adelitas girl (and even a TJ girl) as a cooperative encounter during which the girl does not try to rush you, does not direct you to certain positions, does not announce rules about what she will and will not do or where one can touch, and does not resist certain positions. This is actually a pretty low standard by comparison to places like Rio and Buenes Aires, but a true GFE is rare indeed in TJ.
Your post is actually a pretty good microcosm of the TJ experience. No matter where you go, it is hit and miss. One is going to have good experiences and bad experiences, the trick is to minimize the bad to the extent possible.
I would also add that in my opinion the whole TJ experience is much, much better on weeknights than on the weekends. The girls--be they at Revolucion strip clubs or in the Zona--are much less ruthlessly professional on weeknights and much more appreciative of your business. There are far fewer customers and it is far easier to take your time with the girls.
And I do not think there is that much of a talent drop off from, say, a Wednesday or Thursday night compared to a weekend night. Remember, typically, the girls do this full time, and therefore need to work more days than just weekends.

One more note: this was my 1st TJ trip! I”ve noticed the distance between the border and the Adelita Bar is VERY FAR! You must be clinically insane to try to walk that distance even in daylight; must be around at least 7-8 miles. Figure if you’re a fast walker at 20 mintues per mile x 8 miles, that’s 160 minutes, i.e. 2 hours 40 minute walk. Be smart, take a $5 cab.
I just went to TJ last week three nights Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. I think Monday was the busiest night of all three. The first night (Monday) I did not take any girls to the room, probably because this was my first time in AB of CC and did feel a little nervous. On the first night we also checked

Monday night: dinner at the rest. next door to Adelita's. A few girls came in and out, traded glances, but no one I would have been interested in spending time with. Dinner was OK, and the street scenes were interesting to say the least.

Plaza Rio is the pre-eminent shopping mall (so I'm told) in TJ. Walked around for an hour and saw only 1 hottie, a 9.5. Perhaps I should qualify my rating scale: Halle Barry, Brooke Burke and Tera Patrick (see attached photo from her website) are 10's. Maria Menounos is a 9.5. To keep the playing field level (and in case one of those ladies reads this post), they would probably rate me about a 4, maybe a 5.
In the States, a 1-hour stroll around almost any mall will net dozens (or hundreds) of inspirational sightings, so I was mildly disappointed.
There were a few of my preferred 7's and 8's, but they were all going about their business and didn't pay any attention to me.
I might go out later; if so, will post my research notes. Also have several hours of work to accomplish (a necessary bummer).

The Taxi guy must have taken you on the most circuitous route or fed you some BS. I think there's a map somewhere on this site that will verify this. Basically, after crossing the border, go to your RIGHT towards the brand new McDonalds; there is an open-air like mall area there that you walk through to reach a pedestrian bridge spanning the Tijuana river. After you cross this bridge, you are already about halfway there! Perfectly safe to walk during the day as I've seen several police patrols designed specifically to reassure us gringos...all you young studs save your cash and hoof it (during the day, that is) and spare some change for the kids selling gum along the way...

Actually with the construction going on now the taxi's have to go past REV, and then down the hill. So if you walk depending on traffic it will probably be quicker.
Also in an earlier post someone mentioned why the clubs don't have AC. Due to the fact that they are not in the US and the customer doesn't come first. They believe that if you are at the bar they want you to drink. So in their minds the hotter it is in the club the thirstier you will become and drink more.
MrVEE, I don't know why but you seem to attract the wrong girls. If I was you I would go to AB and look for a girl named Michelle of Monterey. She has put on a few pounds over the years but she gives great service and her English is really good. She works Wed-Sun adn usually gets in around 10pm. You will find her in the back by the big screen tv usually and she's got a nice tan, light brown hair that goes just past her shoulders, and now with the warm weather she usually carries a little Japenese type fan to keep cool. Reflections from Chavelez Bar (sp?) on a Tuesday night.
Metal M: I did see tonight a few of the girls who resembled your south_of_the_border goodness. And due to the hour of my arrival at the bar (around 11 PM), they were all taken! And, just when I thought I had a photo to post from Chavelez (thanks to the $5-per-picture Polaroid-entrepreneur), the girl -- "Roxana" -- wanted to keep the picture! (guess that's a good sign, but I obviously can't tell a good sign from a bad sign anymore) So y'all aren't likely to see it here. It was a fairly good picture of me, but she wasn't smiling at all. She said she was 18, and I believe her. There's a fine line between youth and experience, but she was on the youth side of it. She probably didn't know what to do with me, and I didn't know what to do with her either -- gentleman that I am, I won't ever force myself on a girl, and she - inexperienced - probably had no idea how to proceed. If she even wanted to.
The atmosphere at Chavelez was way better than AB or Chicago, IMHO [in my humble opinion]. The girls did not approach me, and Roxanna was my choice when she sat alone in a booth next to mine. Body was 8'ish (like an 18 year-old's would be). Her 50 words of English vocab and my 200 words Espanol ... well, you do the math. The place is loud, though, so it discourages conversation anyway. And it's very dark in there - you can't hardly tell what a girl (IF it's a girl) looks like until you're in close quarters, and then it's difficult to back out if you're a Southern gentleman.
Roxanna and I danced twice (separate times) on the floor, and other chicas were checking me out. One in particular, sitting next to the dance floor with two other amigas and one local guy. I thought, Damn! Couple of postscripts for guys who don't already know: MOST of these clubs (but not all) will accept only CASH for drinks, etc. If you're a business traveler, that just sounds absurd. (and it is!) But you'd better be prepared. A drink for your companion goes for about $7 (I've tried negotiating and have been unsuccessful). And for you it's about 5$ for a cocktail, $3-$4 for a beer. So in less than an hour, you can spend $50 pretty easy. Especially if the girl (like Roxanna) is NOT drinking alcohol ... remind me to ONLY spend time with girls who are drinkers - increases my odds -- LOL).
The pro: once you're out of money, you're out of money. So it pre-determines your spending limit (which is good, considering).
The con: if you've maneuvered yourself into a good situation, running out of money at the opportune moment is like getting close to the edge and then being asked to go to the Farmacia to get a condom. Farmacia, ATM. Same mood-killer.

Thanks for the posts, they are interesting reading. You remind me of myself a couple of years ago when I first started to go to TJ regularly. Based on what you are looking for, I don't think you would ever be satisfied with TJ. Your comment in one of your messages about saving your money for Singapore rather than spending it in TJ is actually quite incisive. TJ does not at all compare to places like Singapore, Rio, Buenes Aires in terms of the quality of services typically provided. It is not that it is impossible to find good service, it's just that the norm is assembly line service. And even what I would call good experiences, as I noted in an earlier message, typically do not reach the level of a GFE. The culture does not remotely compare to the cities mentioned above.
Some recent posts have said that the key is to be nice to the girls and have a sense of humor, etc. I disagree completely, it does not matter if you are particularly nice to the girls. It is business to them, that is all. Obviously, if you are offensive and rude, that doesn't help, but treating a girl like a girlfriend does not mean she will give you GFE. In fact, and this may be counter-intuitive, I believe that one gets better service when one takes control, treats it like a business transaction (as the girls do), is explicit about one's expectations, and pays only after services are rendered. I know this requires one to drop the illusion that there is some emotional content to this, but that is the reality and it is better to accept it. This is business to them. If you allow these girls to walk all over you, they will most of the time. Women don't respond to weakness and they do tend to respect strength.
The simple fact is that the woman who work in these places are interested in money, not relationships with men who go there. This should be an obvious point, but it bears remembering. Your story about giving the chica a handwritten note was amusing because she probably thought you were crazy or naive for thinking you had to write a note. Or that it was indicative of you thinking there was something there other than a potential business transaction.
The only solution is to either (1) stick with the very few chicas with good reputations, like Tania La Famosa at AB; (2) or find a receptive chica and develop a long term relationship with that chica.
If one wants to go to TJ and pick up different chicas every time, there is going to be a lot of hit and miss. It is just inevitable. I would repeat my own rule, which is to avoid any chica who has worked for more than 3-6 months.
Let me add, some of the girls are very smart, and understand that a lot of men want to believe there is some emotional connection or possibility of more than a business relationship. So they will play up the possibilities for manipulative purposes.
For example, recently a very attractive blond chica sat down next to me. I bought her a drink. We chatted for a little while and she then started touching me agressively, telling me how handsome I was, and asking if I wanted to go to Rosarito sometime. I sent her away immediately.
While she was outwardly convincing, and I am as susceptible to flattery as the next guy, I knew it was phony. She had no interest in going to Rosarito or anywhere else. She was calculating that by suggesting such things I would spend more money on her in drinks and the room. This might even have been ok because even false affection is fine by me as long as it makes me feel good, and it leads to good service in the room, but I knew this wouldn't. Call it a sixth sense honed from experience.
This all may sound cynical to some, but I call it being in touch with reality, and this is always a good thing.

I don't think you have to be rude to the girls. The guys that are nice to the girls and go to TJ often are well known. The other girls in the club know I am seeing 1 girl. They also know that I treat her great and sit for a long time and drink with her. And with the way girls talk to each other they find out other things. So when the girl I'm seeing goes home for some time or is not working on a nite when I go I can have a great time with a girl that I haven't been with before.
BTW, it is very hard to find a girl that will actually tell a guy that she has worked in the Zona for more than 6 months. It seems that everytime they get back from visiting family that is how long she has been in TJ.

Moving slightly away from Zona Norte and the sex industry, I've been meaning to tell you guys that my hotel is the one all the airline crews stay at. In one week I see dozens and dozens of Latina stewardesses. But seeing is the limit. The bell guys tell me that they all operate under very strict rules of engagement, and they're predominantly all very business-like.
Also at my hotel this week, there appears to be some kind of pharmaceutical convention, and the eye candy is everywhere. During the day, I am at my customer site in a glass room, so I constantly get distracted by 7's, 8's and 9's walking back and forth.

Don't misunderstand, I am not at all advocating being rude to the girls or mistreating them in any way. I never am and I never do, even when they have lied and/or service is really bad and they probably deserve to be chastised. Rudeness does not help get better service. I am always polite and pleasant.
My point was simply that being nice is not going to get you a good experience. Rather, one must be direct, explicit and in control. You can be all of these things without being rude and unpleasant. Be nice, but be in touch with reality, don't be misled, don't be stupid, know what you want, and ask for it, be explicit.
By the way, your point about the girls not being honest about how long they have worked has some validity. Some will lie and underreport the time working. But many have also admitted to me to working for a year or more. Long termers are not going to claim to have been there for a couple of months only. Also, if you go very often, you notice the girls who have been around for awhile and you also develop a sense for these things and figure out what to look for. If her English is not very good and the girl does not have many friends in the bar, she is almost certainly new. If she seems a little unsure of herself and does not start touching you or telling you how handsome you are, she is probably fairly new.
Avoid: a good English speaker who approaches you, who has a spiel, who has girlfriends in the bar, and who mentions the room before halfway through her drink. For example, before I wised up, was with Jaqueline at AB, who fits this description. Had a terrible experience with her, the very epitome of mechanical, rushed service. She was even dressed and out the door without a word practically before I had even gotten up from the bed. And I have heard this is her modus operandi. Avoid Jaqueline at all costs.

MrVee is right on the overpaying issue. I do not at all mind paying more than the going rate--if that will get me a better experience. I don't buy the argument that if I pay more than the usual than it has an effect on the prices charged others. I don't think markets are significantly effected by isolated behavior like this. If she is good, paying more is fine by me.
The problem is that paying more than usual often has no relationship whatsoever to the services provided. I would never overpay in advance to a first time chica. The only reason to pay more than usual is if you have found a good chica whom you want to see on a regular basis. Being generous in these circumstances can pay dividends.

I have spoken with Gekko in the past 20 minutes and he is on his way to TJ with Luv Latinas. Their ETA at the border is 5'ish, maybe at Adelita's by 6 PM or before (just guessing). I will be finished working by 6 PM, change clothes (blue jeans, black t-shirt, docker shoes) then head over there (pun intended).

4th TJ trip
Got there about 12:30am Saturday morning. Took Taxi Libre to AB ($2.00). Cruised around abit from AB to CC to alley, and decided on a chica in AB. I am 33 years old and have been a visitor to TJ since I was 20 years old, save for the last 5 years I was married. Since I am now single again, I have been making regular runs to Tj and Ensenada for the last 6 months or so. I am glad to say that not much has changed down south! If your looking for good places to eat in TJ that are a little more upscale I would look in the area of Zona Rio, I'm sorry I can't provide you with street names or an adress but one place that I really like is called "Saverio's". It is one of the top places in TJ. It kind of reminds me of Mortens Steakhouse. Like I said it has a few other great places to eat close by. If you ask a taxi driver about it he should know. The only other clue I can give you is that its across the street from TGIF. As far as the seafood goes in TJ you have alot to chose from. Any place that you see Mariscos in the name is a seafood place. Again I would stick to the Zona Rio for more elegant establishments. Lastly if you are looking for a good Sushi dinner. I know a place that is right down the street from the Rio Plaza, and if you eat before 5pm they have some great specials. I will get names and addresses to these places on my next visit and post it so you have the info before your trip on 9/19.

I've eaten the tacos outside AB. After that, I was warned by one girl not to eat there and by some friends of mine. The thing is that I enjoyed them. Great report, I always feel sorry for the guys that go to TJ and all they do is jump in the cab go to the bar and take a girl upstairs and jumb back in the cab to be returned to the US. The best thing a person can do is spend some time outside the US and not just tourists areas but to spend time with the locals and see how they live and how they view things.
I went to TJ on Monday evening straight from SD Airport. After coming out of terminal, took Bus # 992 (The Airport Flyer) non-stop to American Plaza transfer station (15 minutes). Fare exact change $2.25. Took Blue line SD trolley to San Ysidro/Tijuana, fare $2.50. Just before last stop (San Ysidro/Tijuana), got off at Beyer Blvd. It took about one hour from American Plaza. Took Red bus to cross the border, which parks at five feet from the Trolley track ($1.75). Dropped me at one block from AB. This is the most hassle free, safe and best way to travel. Only had to walk 300 feet altogether from SD Airport to reach AB. Total cost: $6.50 to reach monger ground zero.
Took a room at Hotel Cascades for $30 (ten feet from AB). Took shower, went to AB, found a few cuties, bargained, none wanted less than $60/hr, left. Walked on sidewalk on AB side. Wall to wall line up, some cuites, wanted TLN for less than $40, none agreed. I found pretty jaded SWs. No fresh meat. Looks like they have a union or something. I went to TJ for the first time in two years. The border crossing returning was much easier than it was shortly after 9/11. Oddly, when I crossed back to the U.S. at around midnight, the INS were checking people ENTERING Mexico! I'm not sure what the INS is looking for.
I also noticed many street girls are more dressed up than before. Many of them now wear jeans and a sweater, not that mini skirt I'm used to seeing. Of course, this made it hard to check out the hardware before you buy. Are politicians trying to clean up the city by imposing a dress code? I've noticed the police presence was greater too.

The bar fine is usually around $60-$70 (a rip because the AB bar fine in the past has been $10 and CC has been $20) but never $100. They just don't want their girls leaving during working hours.
Apparently you have been pegged as a big spender and they were trying to rip you off. Same with Roxana quoting you $400. I have known guys who Pati did for free for all night or paid her well less than $100 if she liked them. Supposedly the girl even gets half of the bar fine money as well but I can't confirm that. I was down to Tijuana last Friday. Took the car to the border and walked in and took a cab to a restaurant. He took us to a Fishrestaurant of the simple kind with Live Music from a band. Sorry for the delay post but I've just been busy. Went down to TJ the past memorial day weekend. Got to AB at six on saturday and the place was pretty packed already. Maybe one of you saw me as I noticed some Americans heading in and out of the club and looking at me when he first started hassling me. I'm about 6'0 tall very physically fit, good looking guy. Why would you believe this cop to begin with. I know you didn't want any trouble but I would of laughed at him when he said it was illegal and pointed to every other guy going into AB. I think your mistake was talking to the guy on the street. If it was a guy talking about the internet it was probably Texas Mike, he is a good guy but he is also know as someone you can get drugs from. The cops know this and will stop guys that talk to these fellows for a little time so he might of targeted you for that.
Everything else is BS, the cop would not have taken you to jail it was a scam, why do you think he didn't wait for you at the ATM. Because he didn't want anyone to see that he was up to no good. The ohter thing you might want to think about is if he was a TJ cop or a security guard or something. The cops in TJ seem to always work in pairs. So for this cop to be working alone is a little odd.
I know this was a bad time but that is what boards like this are for, to help guys get info on things to be aware of.
If was you I would go back to TJ and find this cop and turn him in to the higher ups. They are really trying to cut down on all the bad cops in TJ and I'm sure he would be gone. Besides this cop was a real asshole if he didn't just take the $40 you offered but made you get more money.
