I've heard of shake-downs in Mexico (never happened to me yet), but never one involving prostitution.
Technically this BS cop is right. There is nothing in the Mexican books that says explicitly that 'prostitution is legal'. On the other hand, as all of us know, including the police that normally guard the door at Adelitas, prostitution is rampant, and explicitly tolerated all across the country. Take, for instance, the police sub-station situated adjacent to the alley that the hordes of street girls work from. You mean to tell me that they don't know what these girls are doing to put food on the table? Of course they do. And they let it go on because money talks in Mexico.
Also, why do you think the government requires all working girls to have a health cards and have regular check-ups? Because they know what they are doing for a living and, thereby, THEY OFFICIALLY TOLERATE IT. Check it out--ask any girl in Adelitas to see her health card and she'll whip it out. See, that's because she has to have one to work there.
Don't take any BS--ask for the cops name and badge number and ask to speak to his superior.
GetingTang, I find it very hard to believe what you have written. No way someone was hit up by a cop right outside of Adelitas coming down the stairs from the AB hotel and hassled and pressured to pay a bribe about doing a working girl in AB. No way! You wrote:

He said he would drive around the block and if I was gone when he got back, he would have all the police in TJ after me and I would never make it back to the border! He told me my fine was $150 US. I got the money, got back in his car, paid and he let me go. A total scam rip off. I'm letting all my fellow mongers know! This happened about 3:30 PM on Saturday. Maybe one of you saw me as I noticed some Americans heading in and out of the club and looking at me when he first started hassling me. I'm about 6'0 tall very physically fit, good looking guy. I was well dressed in Slacks and polo shirt. I sort of stand out.
You made me curious so I looked at some of your previous 115 posts. You also posted this about Pattaya,

Don't get me wrong here, I'm not implying fellow mongers not go to Mexico or Tj for a little R&R. I am just warning you, that you might get scammed. I am no amateur to the Mexican scene. I used to reside in San Diego and venture down that way at least once a week for the delights TJ had to offer. I know the drill all too well. Hell, I've been doing TJ since I was 17 yo. I'm now 33. I have mongered around the world and done at least 2000 girls in my day! It's just been 3 years since my last trip to TJ. It has changed some, but overall it's still the same TJ, probably always will be the same!
My business will now take me twice monthly to San Diego, so I'm up for arranging a group venture or any other fellow monger who might be up for watching each other's back's and just having a little fun.
I was more then willing to pay off the bad cop, as I have spent the night in the Tj jail back when I was about 19. Long story, but doing the drunk teenage bar scene when I was 19, my friend and I were wrestling around, we got hustled had no $ so they threw us both in the TJ jail for the night. Needless to say, the $150 was a bargain as those distant memories came back in a hurry. I was not going to jail. I would have ran for the border before they took me there again.
I am going to report what happened to me on my next trip. I plan to take a Mexican friend of mine from SD who speaks fluent English and Spanish. He knows a few cops from TJ, who are descent people, he told me they will do something about it!
That being said. Wow the girls at Adelitas are something else! Well, worth the hassle of going to the border.
On a side note, was anyone else down to Tj this past weekend? Saturday? What was all the protesting about? Hundreds of cops, horses, swat teams on both sides of the border. What was up with that.

I see your point about not getting hasseled at AB, but, take note of the time it happened. Not a lot of people around, early in the day, spot an out of place guy... Just look back at my post of my cherry trip. I am one to say right now, anything is possible in TJ (except time travel, but that is a slightly different toppic). My point is that this is believable at least. As far as the rest of your post, well I made the same observations.

YMMV but I have found that many of the diamonds there by themselves have been picked up or gone home by 8pm during the school year. Another little secret is that the bartender, not the waiter will sell you a bucket that you can share with a group of girls you are sitting with… They know you are not going to pay $10 each for Girl drinks for girls you are not focusing on… Oh and don’t forget to TIP THE WAITER WELL for your drinks… It is much cheaper than paying for the “Girl Drinks” they try to force you into… If they are getting on your nerves then you may have to move, they have table assignments…

If you pay attention to the posts on this board you have already taken the biggest step towards MAXimizing your fun… But remember YMMV… These tips are things that work for me and my particular taste(Young Legal size 2) … So I encourage you to post your own Tips for MAXimizing the fun of others on this board who have tastes similar to yours… After all it will be rare to find 10 people on this board in TJ at the same time and even rarer to find more than two of those that are looking for the same experience…

Went down Early Monday (9/16) to celebrate Mexican Independence day… (TjMAXimizer Tip #2&3) As you might expect there were not a lot of “Gringo’s” and there were definitely more well off Mexicans “In the Zone”…
The result was a much larger population of girls in the Bars all over TJ, and they were there to party!!!! The unusually high ratio of party girls to “Gringo’s” was what I was hoping to find… I just wanted to Party with a bunch of “Fun” girls who might enjoy a few rounds and some dancing….
But you know what they say “To Find, you must first stop searching.” Monday was no exception… As usual I focused on Chevas and Tropical… (TjMAXimizer #1) You Can read my TjMAXimizer post for a better understanding why…
The Bars in the Zone had an unusual concentration of young Hotties wearing White outfits with Mexican flag colors… And everyone just seemed to have a smile and “Fun” attitude… So there I am walking between Chevas and Tropical when I see a total small young hottie standing out front in a black dress… I don’t use numbers but she was many times more attractive to me that anyone I had seen in the zone that night… Even with the influx of young cuties in their white dresses that night…
When I walked by, she looked up and smiles as I walk in… A few min latter she walks in and heads for the back room… At this point I have decided to implement TjMAXimizer TIP #9 (Be Decisive) so when she comes out I approached her as she sat at an empty seat along the wall…

I agree with the poster that talks about the so called texas mike. You got in trouble for talking to a drug peddler. Having a "bag" with you only made things worse.
Sometimes, I talk and proposition girls in front of the police station in front of the alley, right in front of policemen, literally 5 feet away from them at the police station. I do this all the time, I've never had any problems. The lady in red dress stands there(highly recommended).

"Robert Rodriguez" I met him near the SW, s next to the Miami Club After I had come down the stairs from enjoying a Hot little SW, he saw me as I came down the to the street and he told me he was a undercover TJ cop and was watching out for the Tourists. He told me my friend was looking for me, I aked how he knew and he said because its his job to know, Strange that he knew this, he was correct as my friend was looking for me. He seemed pretty cool and spoke very good English. He did not have a uniform on but showed me his badge, as I did not believe him at first. Anyways he told me my friend would be back and to just hang out and wait for him which I did and talked with him for a while until my friend came back from looking for me. Anyways seemed like an OK guy.
I figured him for a Scam but he did not bother me for money or anything.

Here we are, another trip report. Getting a bunch a guys to do anything always tends to fall apart at the seems. And, this is exactly what happened with this group. So fast that I almost thought I would be the only one. However, Darenesq came through in the pinch. No hard feelings guys, just let me know when you're ready and I'll be sure to hold your hands, go with the buddy system, and single file please.
Hit TJ about 3:30pm. Decided to check into the hotel first. Stayed at HOTEL PARIS on 5th and Revolucion. Nice chica working the desk. She's worth going back for when not too much other dudes hanging around trying to hit her up. The hotel impressed me. It was clean. Bathroom and shower was clean. Ample towels in case you brought back some company. It had air conditioning, tv, and hot water. When I finally decided to sack, what a relief. Turned the AC on, showered with hot water, and watched a little TV before hitting the sack. Definitely worth staying there again. All that for $38.00. There was a $10 room key deposit which I got back when checking out. When I checked in, I went up to the room, dropped some stuff off and gave the key back to the clerk. Everything was fine when I got back. No worries mate.
I'm not much on massages, but kept reading how good those massages are at AZTEC. Darenesq was going to get one. I figured what the heck might as well check out what all the hoopla was about. For $20, not a bad purchase just to check it out. Had to wait about 15 min. We were checking the Chicas out. They weren't bad. Finally got called, drop the $20. I also met Sergeant Rodriguez, I was not playing attention and got the money switch on my at Peanuts. He said that the police was going to come and take a report and shit like that. The police never came, I was upset because I was there for a couple of days prior to scam. The waiters did buy me and my friends a round of drinks though.
I believe that you tell everyone that you have no money until you need to spend money. The best bet is always carry only $20, if you get drunk and stupid, they can only take a 20 from you.

I don't think it is possible to bring a Mexican chick into the US without any immmigration papers. Most Mexican women working in TJ would probably love to move into the US but unfortunately do not have the paperwork to do so. The only thing that you can do is probably smuggle one in.
There's a very pretty SG in the alley named Gabriela. Around 19 and she works days. I thought someone else must have seen her or gone with her because she looks so cute and is petite but not skinny. On Labor Day around 1 pm paid $30 for her "sin ropa", no clothes, for 20 minutes missionary style. No cleaning guy to tip. Room was $5. She didn't act like she was into the sex but that's to be expected of many SGs anyway. But she makes up for it with that great face and body and nice conversation with the little Spanish I know.
TJ trip,
Went down to TJ after not doing so for about 3 years. My first stop was Noir Black I believe it was called. This place reminded me of the Old Bambi club. There were way too many transvestites in the club for my taste. After drinking my drink I walked a block down to a club on the same side of the street. There was no cover so I went in to check it out. It was okay. I saw a good looking chick and had the waiter bring her over. She spoke good english, so I asked her to do a private dance right off. She was a trip in the back. She talked about how her p**** was good, and how she licked to have her clit rubbed. She gave a high milage dance, but was not my cup of tea. The second girl was a rip off. She pretended as if she did not know it was okay to take her clothes off during the song. I just got up and took her over to the attendant and had him explain it to her and left.
I left the club and stopped at an atm, it despensed the money in pesos, well duh!, 300 pesos is not much money. I decided against getting any more pesos.
I grabbed a cab and went down to Adelitas, it was packed. Lot's of good lookers. Too many people to get around well. I am going to have to go off peak so I can sit down and better selection and visibility.
Took a walk down the alley and around and ran into an SG. She looked to be 15. I talked to her for about 20 mins, and decided to pass. I did not feel real comfortable with her looking so young. She insisted that she was 19. TJ can be a tricky place. I say if it does not sit right, next.

I've run into the cops twice now in three visits over the last month. Both time on the SAME corner (Constituition one block or so up from the alley).

Visited AB and SWs. Both are hit and miss, but definitely better than US experiences. BUT, AB girls look great, but often don't deliver. Can't complain about looks, though!
The SW experience was good. Good value, but have had one good, and one just okay. Hotels are nice and clean, and the girls are almost as good as AB pros. Question is how do you weed out the best?

Ok, here is my first "post" TJ report.
Went down this past weekend with Gekko (your the best man!), and since he has already detailed our arrival, I'll detail my first impression.
TJ has allot to offer in terms of quality and variety. One might assume -given the photo posted on this board- that the ladies are of average quality (I know it's all a matterof taste), but to my glee, there were some real quality lookers, ... 9s maybe 10s.
I took the tour provided by Gekko in stride and wanted to see the full picture before diving in. We toured the alley and hit all if not most of the clubs. Finally, while in AB later in the eve, ... this looker (I think here name was Denise (7.5)) began to grind her ass on me while dancing to the musica and gave some really really good vibes. To this, ... Gekko provided the best advise, ... "if she is fun here, ... likely to be fun upstairs." Took the sdvise and guess what, ... she was awsome! Did a bit of a strip tease, bj, cow-girl, mish and boy did she know how to work those hips. Lotts of necking too. She is about 5'6, 130lbs, long curly hair, and a bit exotic looking.
Next, we went to see if CC had picked up as it was slow earlier in the evening. Saw some really nice lookers, but, ... the vibe in this club does not compare to AB. I can say that I've had differing experiences with the AB and CC girls. Some with low level, mechanical service, but some a little better. We emerged in ZN, made a couple of left turns, and rolled to a stop on Coahuilla, right in front of Adelita Bar.
I paid the man, exited the cab, and pushed aside the heavy rubber curtains to enter Adelita's.
Surprisingly, it's like a midrange American strip club, but not too dark -- and a quick glance confirmed that the place was packed with customers and some very hot girls. Not much was happening on the dance floor.

2nd time to TJ. Once again I had a free Sunday morning in San Diego and decided to try TJ again. There are quite a few statements you could make in the course of a conversation. Perhaps you can list the statements that you will feel comfortable using and someone will translate them for you. The big test will be understanding her response to your questions. I have noticed that while many of the ladies don't speak english, they manage to get their point across.

too_big - I wouldn't worry about Spanish skills. Just make a circle with your left index finger and thumb, then push you right index finder in and out of the circle. The vast majority of the girls in TJ know how to say $20, $30, $40, $50, etc. I used to take my non-Spanish speaking friends all the time, but they rarely, if ever, asked me to translate anything. Even if you learn some cheesy phrases, you won't understand the responses, so don't worry. Also, theres always lots of gringos in zona bars that know enough to help you out if you get in a jam.

3rd times a charm! I didn't expect to be going back to TJ again 5 days later but I just got back. Some friends of mine wanted to go to the Harrah's casino which is northeast of San Diego way out in the middle of nowhere. After we all got financially crushed there last night, we decided to roll to TJ today. We got there around 1pm. We took a cab to the corner of A.B. and C.C. Took a walk around the block just to have a look at the sw's, even though we knew we were heading into the A.B. Wow!!! Just after 1pm and the place was pretty damn crowded. We headed to the back right corner and grabbed 2 small booths. Got some cervezas and tried to watch the Giants-Marlins game even though in the back there, the TV was at the wrong angle. I'd say there was 25 or so girls in the club at that time and ranging from 5-10's. Some of the more aggresive ones started to come over to us and they would pretty quickly start in with thier pitch to go upstairs. I vowed to have patience and wait for one that gave me a good vibe. I've been going to TJ after work on Friday the past few weeks. Man, once you are hooked on it, there is no escaping it. I mean, the greenback is well spent in TJ when comparing to places in the US. I also like the atmosphere, the carefree and friendly hispanic people. I've been having pretty good luck and time with chicas so far(that's why I keep going there every week) but had a fucked up(excuse my language) incident at CC. I got there about 9:30 so it was expected to be slow. While I was still trying to adjust my eyes to the darkness inside, this old waiter comes and asks if I wanted beer. I already had a couple at Hong Kong, so I declined. Then this asshole says with broken English that I could hardly understand, outside ! I said, what ? He says, no drink, go outside. I said to myself, what the fxxx ! Well, this is something new for me. I mean, in my years of frequenting TJ this never happened to me. Anyway, I just smiled at him and stood my ground and he walked away. Then a few minutes later, another old waiter guy comes and askes the same question. Drink ? I said to him, I already had muchos cerveza. He goes away and comes back with Tecate. At this point, I've had it. I just walked out shaking my head. What is going on here ? The attitude of these waiters took a turn for the worse lately at CC. Is this just one time event ?
Anyway, I wasn't going to let them ruin my trip. I found this real cutie SG who says just started working there. She stands on the CC side but up north towards Constitucion. Man, she is probably one of the prettiest SGs I've seen in TJ. No loose skin, firm body, the service was good. She was actually into it while I was doing her. I think her name was Marie, or so I heard. Highly recommended. look 10, service 9, attidute 9. I ended up doing three SGs on this trip and had tons of fun with them. SGs can be cheap(we all know this) and fun at the same time as long as you know how to negotiate with them. I was even able to do anal with two of them with a small fee.

Yeah....I think the CC waiters are the worst in TJ. Don't buy the drink through them....they'll fuck with you for a tip and fuck with you if you don't give a tip and fuck with your change if you don't give exact money. Buy a beer directly from the bar and just nurse it. Same if you decide to buy a chica drink - get it from the bar.....and sit at the bar. Tell the chicas that they are the best in TJ, but you never come to CC anymore 'cos the waiters are such assholes. Tell them your rich friends are at another club/bar and wouldn't even set foot in CC to spend money on the chicas 'cos of the asshole waiters. Tell the barman the same thing. That's what I do anyway. In all TJ bars, especially AB and CC try to use the same waiter or two. Establish a relationship with them. You will never get ripped off that way. Some guys do tip $1 but I feel a fair tip us .50 but that's up to you. The best waiter in CC is Martin who is older and has been in CC for over 30 years. He does speak some English, is extremely honest and I couldn't imagine him hassling someone to buy a drink.
As anyone who has read my prior posts knows, I am definitely not an apologist for the Chicago Club. However, in my experience, Chicago waiters are more honest than prevailing Tijuana standards. I have never been ripped off by a waiter in Chicago.
I do not see anything wrong with a bar, in Tijuana or anywhere, expecting a patron to buy a drink of some kind while there. Bars don't make money by having people come in and take up space without buying anything. Personally, I would not go into a bar in Tijuana, stay for any period of time, and not buy at least one drink of some kind. It is expected, understandably.

For what its worth, I got hassled in CC to buy a drink while checking out the scene awhile back. It pissed me off and surprised me greatly too. I have had some good experiences at Chicago, don't agree with the policy, but now accept having to buy a drink as being part of territory there.
That policy has caused me to look into other competitors outside of the AB/CC circuit. I still do CC, but I do not go nearly as much.
So many other outlets for good women. Sometimes if I do not feel like going in but I am in the neigborhood I tell them I heard some guys had a hard time, so maybe I will pay a visit next time.
Yes, its their business and they can do what they want, but I feel it does not hurt to advertise the friendly policies of their competitors and in the meantime perform a public service for myself and others who may not like their policy.
I agree with Irishman and think if you are gonna take up space in their establishment you should at the very least buy one drink. I think the same principle as those who are told to buy something or put down the magazines at newstands or bookstores. It's not a library. Especially when those places get packed. I would enjoy more elbow room in the already too crowded and hot clubs.
Checking out clubs other than AB and CC is a good idea regardless of the drink policies.
I did a few a weeks ago have a decent and unusual experience at AB. I was there to basically rest after spending an hour with a cute young SG (who was excellent, by the way). A somewhat older chica, cannot remember her name, approached me. Usually I would immediately tell her I was not interested, but she talked a good game. So, as I sometimes do in these circumstances, I asked for what one usually cannot get in AB--BBBJ. Yes, it's true. If you are in a bar, you are expected to buy drinks. That is if it is an ordinary bar. But CC and AB are not one of those ordinary bars. Most guys including myself go to CC or AB to look for some fun with the chicas and I am pretty sure that they take a big cut from the chicas who go upstaires with a client. If they keep leaving bad taste in the guys' mouth with hassling over a measly beer, they would lose customers and that's something they would not want to happen. At least, I wouldn't do that if I were a manager there. Anyone know why there is only a couple bars(AB,CC) in TJ for years now that have chicas who go upstairs ? I mean, with so much money AB and CC must be making day in and day out, why wouldn't other clubs want to do the same ? Do they require some sort of special license to operate the way AB and CC do ? Asiandude, I have always assumed and believed that AB and CC do not take a cut of what a chica makes upstairs, and that the owners make money with drinks (customer and chica) and the room charges, which are a gold mine. I think the chica keeps all the money for services, but now that you raise the issue I have to admit that I have never actually asked anyone this question. So perhaps my understanding is incorrect, but I doubt it. I am sure others will post on this topic.
I don't think AB and CC are as unique as you suggested in having a hotel. For example, La Tropa has a hotel. Tropical has a hotel nearby. I agree HK and Miami are a bit different because the hotel used by chicas at those clubs is not exclusive to those chicas (it is also used by SGs), but you can bet the owners of HK either own the hotel or get a cut of the room charges generated by their chicas. In fact, I believe if you take a chica to the hotel from HK or Miami, the room charge is about double the room charge if you take a SG.
Anyway, you are looking at this as a free market issue i.e. if AB and CC are successful and making lots of money, in a free market one would expect competition to spring up. But Mexico does not work that way, especially when it comes to essentially illicit businesses like those in the zona. It is based upon political and law enforcement connections and approvals and bribery. I don't think it would be particularly easy for any additional competition to spring up, even if your premise was correct.
I think you're right about a not exactly free market, but it's not as simple as that. As best as I can tell, chicas will go "to the room" in just about any bar in la zona, and rev as well. Some places encourage that sort of thing, some don't. It seems to be more a matter of each bar having a different emphasis, for reasons that aren't obvious. Keep in mind, many of these places are supposed to be owned by the same people. I believe the girls are generally free-lancers in all these places, but only a few places are as organized such as AB. The job of every employee of all the bars, hotels, mps, strip joints, etc. is to generate as much spending by the suckers, er customers, as possible. Everything is overpriced, and that's where they make their money. If a chica doesn't generate enough cash flow (fichas, room rents), she's not invited back. Just having access to the fish is strong incentive for these girls.
As for the waiters, they are basically pimps. I can't think of a single instance where they have added positively to my experience, in any of the bars. CC being among the worst. If you aren't secure enough to pick your own chica, you don't belong in ZN.
However, buying a drink is pretty much like an entrance fee in all these places. Take HoMaster's advice, buy a beer directly from the bar and nurse it.
Practices differ, particularly in the strip clubs outside the zona, because they are trying to serve different markets. There are strip clubs on Revolucion that are basically prostitution outlets, although not quite as openly as the Zona bars. Beverly Hills, Pussycats and others I would put in this category.
Other places on Revolucion are not and are more akin to American strip clubs. Not all the girls, or even a majority, will have sex for money. Some will, particularly with regular customers, but it is not necessarily sanctioned by the owners. Higher end places are Madonas, Lord Black, Bolero, maybe Penthouse (never been there) and Amnesia.
I was told by a chica from Bolero that the owners there are very strict. The chicas are actually weighed every week and if they do not make weight, they are told to lose weight and come back in a week. There are all sorts of rules that goven their conduct in the bar, such as rules prohibiting them from approaching customers sitting near the stage or sitting on the laps of customers in the club. This club is going for a higher end "classier" atmosphere, including trying to serve businessman with clients, and the talent level is probably the best of anywhere in TJ. This chica told me she had been suspended for two weeks for fighting with another chica over a customer. She said this customer was a regular of the other chicas, but he asked for dances from her. When she went into the back, the other chica went after her. (I told her I would have liked to have seen that).

I have asked the girls at AB if they share profits with the house. Apparently the money you pay to go upstairs goes 100% to the girl. The house makes money off the drink tickets. One girl told me they had to have 10 drink tickets at the end of the night and another told me 20. Not sure if it depends on length of shift or what. Every drink they get gives them a ticket. If they don't have enough tickets at the end of the night then they have to pay the balance out of their pocket.
I know that negoitiating has gotten easier for me knowing that they get all the money for going up to the room. Hey $40-$50 is alot of money in TJ. If they split with the house then I wouldn't try to negoitiate as hard.
TJ trip report,
I have been bitten by the TJ bug. I was down again on Saturday. Parked on the US side. The last US exit, parking lot on the north west corner. Park and ride the bus downtown for $2. Got down there around 5 pm.
Went down to the Pollo Bar, and the fight was on. Stayed there for a couple of hours and watched the fight. I decided to go around and take a look elsewhere and the fight was showing all over. AB and CC was business as usual.
I decided to focus on AB this time. Walked into the club. In the door and off to the right. Crowd was nice early not alot of people. Just enough. As I get towards the back I came to the group of ladies that kind of hang just to the left of the walk way. The music was playing one of thier favorite tunes and the whole group of ladies were doing the TJ bounce. Went to the back grabbed a table and ordered a drink. A couple of ladies approached but they were not my style. I was really amazed at how many of the ladies in the AB have both fake boobs, and assess. I don't really notice as many with as much work done over at the CC.
After sittining and relaxing for a while I took a walk around the club. I ran into a real cutie by the name of Susana. If an argument turns into a situation and the police show up, you will pay more than $3. I have been in a club and caught someone trying to pick my pocket, when the police arrived I had to pay.

The thing you MUST remember about Tj is, you're not in Kansas anymore! You are in a foreign country and subject to their mercy! Now I realize you are just a walk away from SD to this foreign country, but it will seem as though it is on the other side of the planet if you end in TJ police custody and or in the TJ slammer! Not a fun place to be.
There is only one reason cops and TJ officials alike show us mongering Americans any mercy at all. The all mighty buck! If not for the value of tourism in Tj we would all be subject to a constant bombardment of scams, rip-offs, muggings, fights, stabbing, you name it! It's a game of balance as there are still hundreds of daily scams and rip-offs in that border town. TJ only tries to keep cases from going too high profile, or if too many stories star breaking out they will lie low for a while.
99% of the cops in TJ are CORRUPT! I have a close personal life long fiend who works the border crossing. He tells unbelievable stories of what happens to Americans down in TJ. He said he can't count how many times Americans have come staggering to the border crossing, beaten, stabbed, even rapped, you name it. Happens daily and nightly. The point of this post. Please recognize where you're at and realize, shit does happen!
Also on a side note. I have received reports of a group of hustlers who will jump in front of you on the walk way going back up the hill from AB. They will position themselves in front of you, usually one guy and the others surround you. They will try and intimidate you by saying something like, "you walked into me" "what you doing gringo you want to fight with me" etc, etc, if they do this with you, simply ignore them, do not push them or walk into them, play their little foot dance game, but quickly move out into the open, even the street if you have to. Do not touch them or they will beat you down. I have heard this from several mongers. They try and pick guys walking back up the hill alone. Do not let them corner you. And don't forget my report about being hustled and ripped of by that TJ cop several weeks back.

Don't ever, and I will repeat for you slow ones, don't EVER stop to talk to ANYONE on the street. They are either down and out or wanted if thier English is perfect. Don't take a chance. The policia are out for numbers and or $. Use the info from this site word for word and no problems. Go out of the way just a few steps will end you up being the choice meat for the day and evening, and the next day, and so on...

I made the mistake of talking to this shoe shine girl a few months ago in TJ. She was shining shoes between Adeletas and CC. She looked like a pretty hard core Los Angeles Gang Banger.
At first, it was nice to talk to someone who spoke perfect English. I regretted it later though. Every time I walked around the block she hassled me for a shoe shine.
I learned my lesson that day. Now, when one of the locals, such as a massage parlor hawker, a shoe shine boy, or a drunk begger, tries to talk to me, I just ignore them. I don't even look them in the eye. When they start yelling and getting in my face, I just shake my head like I don't understand English. I won't even utter one single word. The locals can tell where you are from by your acccent. By saying "no thank you," you give yourself away. It tells the hawker that (1) you speak English, and (2) you are an American.
Because I don't respond to their badgering, they think I don't understand English. And because I don't understand English, they leave me alone.

DON'T pay more than $50!!! They always start higher, but most will take 50. If they don't, walk away no matter how hot you think she is. They'll make more... Anyone who pays more than $50 at is paying more than they need, and worse than that, cocking it up for everyone else!! Note also that the dollar has been declining relative to the peso, so your dollars are worth even more.

The last time I went to TJ a taxicab driver took me to Deja Vu .I was impresseed by the line up, but I probably paid too much . $40 for the house $70 for the girl. If nobody is interested, where is a safe place to stay in TJ? And how much should I expect to pay for all night with one of the TJ chicas? I dont want to up the prices there. Is it safe for a gringo to go alone to TJ overnight? Or should I just pop and run?

I can understand you concern about price; however, there is also a thing called "time value of money". I sit around drinking and attempting to find a woman that will accept my predetermined price of no more than $50. While I am sitting and spending money on some kind of beverage and possibly spending money on buying a drink or two for the lady or ladies I am interested in, the tab is going up. At the end of the day, I may end up spending more money on the trip by trying to economize than I would have by going ahead with the lady I was initially interested in.
If I want cheap $20 sessions, I go out in the alley and talk to SG's. Besides I have had dance sessions in the US with women that don't look as good for $120 for 3 songs. That's is 6 minutes of entertainment if I am lucky.
My approach is simple, I do my best to get a good price, and go with the woman of my choosing. My goal is not to raise the price, but to get laid and get back to the States. The after thought of "wow she sure looked good maybe next time" is not very nice, especially when I can turn the fantasy into a reality for $5 or $10.
Your point is taken, and I will make an extra effort to barter for a better price.

I think he said that there is simulcast of American tracks and sportbook as well at the old horse track and at the jai-alai. I'm not sure I'd want to be seen winning too much down there. Also not sure about staying the night as I've only done quick visits. I'm more comfortable hitting the nice off track facility at Del-Mar and then it's less than an hour drive to the border if you time it right.

I understand what you mean, but from experience I can say that with very few exceptions, most girls will accept $50 if you offer that instead. Cyber - try the sportsbook on Ave Revolucion next to the Jai Li (probablty butchered the spelling) arena. Horse/sports wagering is good there and it is close to some of the old standard bars of TJ (Unicorn, Isis, Bambi, SansSouci, etc.).
These places are always good for a laugh when you watch the tourists who think that Ave Revolucion is the place to try and play with the bar girls. What they don't know is one out of three probably is packing more in their shorts than the tourist, and he has just picked their pocket!

The price I mentioned was the initial offer and I have no idea of the actual quality or price of hotel furnished chicas is/was. Exact directions for Taxi Libre from border to town (slightly off topic, but almost all of us cross the border):
After walking into Mexico through the turnstyle, walk past Mexican customs (such as it is, I almost never get questioned at all) and turn right when you have a choice to hit a second set of turnstyles....do NOT go straight to the turnstyles under the TAXI sign.
Once out on the street, stay on the sidewalk and go left, the "sitio" is half a block ahead, right in front of the Caliente betting facility, same side of street as turnstyle you passed through.
The cabs are white with Orange stripes. The drivers seem friendly and obviously want to work lots or runs rather than waiting around to overcharge a few gringos.
Today there was a line, but it moved very quickly. Taxis come a lot. In fact, the one complaint of the drivers is that the Sitio has only two parking spots, delaying loading.
Last time I was here, there were a row of Taxi Libre cabs waiting.
Prior to that, it was hit and miss. But if there are none, I would wait at the sitio a bit, unless more than 10 people are waiting. Your other choices are a 6 peso bus and a $ 5 yellow cab.
$2 should get you into town. They have meters, and this is much more pleasant than negotiating a $ 5 ride for 1 mile. Mexicans actually use these cabs, a good sign. And if the meter surprisingly 'does not work,' which seldom occurs, pay $ 2 from border to town and no more.
Returning, flag one down on the street.
I think these guys are secure. I use them to get around town more than I used to use yellow cabs, so I may end up pumping just as much into the local economy. Anyone have any problem?

TJ day-trip report: Let me start by saying that I first got laid in TJ as a high-school kid 25 years ago, so my experience there has been long-term. I hit up TJ last night (thursday). Got down there around 9:45 or so. I parked across the street from El Torito (pay parking, expensive but safe). I walked down to the Zona. I expected it to be more dead than on a weekend but I expected more girls out than there was. A preliminary check of the SGs showed that there was a poor selection, and no hotties. So I headed straight to Adelitas. Inside was a different story. There were at least 50 girls inside, and probably 10 more upstairs at any given time. The selection was about average for Adelitas. To Coahuila and others: always pay the chicas in pesos. Its not that the exchange rate is good (it is) but the chicas value pesos higher than dollars. In other words, a chica views 200 pesos as real money, whereas 20 dollars is simply script that must later be changed into pesos when she pays her rent. Its a psychological thing.
Never pay a SG more than 200 pesos for standard service, you won't get better service.
BTW, after you negotiate down on the street and then come up to the room, show her the 200 pesos and lay it on the counter. If she tries to grab it, just tell her 'despues'. If she complains about that, bail quickly.

Taxi Libre Setting 2 on the meter is for 'noche' (night). I do not know the hour of change but will find out. It is slightly higher.
The queue in front of Caliente moves quickly, so even a line of 10 or 20 people may mean only a 5 or 10 minute wait for a Taxi libre.
A Yellow Cab ('Taxi Amarillo') dispatcher with a walkee-talkee now works the end of the Taxi Libre line, negotiating fixed fares for Yellow cabs across the street that can be almost as low as Taxi Libre fares. I have not heard him work in English. Funny thing last week: I heard one customer decline this dispatcher's offer, and when the dispatcher was gone this guy told me "I hate the Yellow cabs and would not get in one if they drove me for free. They charge $ 5 from border to centro." Seems like TJ residents think as we do about this subject.
LOTS of police activity last Friday, and not too many SW out. Anyone know what was up? It could have been a document check - one SW I know was really nervous and wanted to keep as we spoke. The clubs were operating as normal.

The yellow cabs are annoying and tiresome because, more so than the price, you can expect to be relentlessly sold on going to a massage parlor or Lord Black. Recently this has become worse. A couple of weeks ago, I got in a yellow cab at the border and asked to be taken to Madonas. The driver said Lord Black was better. I said I was meeting friends at Madonas. He asked me at least 3 more times if I wanted to go to Lord Black. With increasing irritation, I declined each time. So he says first that Madonas is closed. He then says he does not know where it is. He finally dropped me off on Revolucion a half block away. I gave him $5 and he was annoyed and asked for more.
A short time before this incident, a yellow cab driver trying to convince me to go to Lord Black rather than Madonas told me that Madonas' waiters drugged their customers. I knew this was nonsense, but only because I have been there many times. A newbie would not know better.
Also, yellow cabs will not drop you off at Chicago Club because Chicago's owner will not pay a fee to the owner of the yellow cab company.
All of this illustrates that Mexican business culture and customer service principles are just different than in the USA. It is difficult to imagine an American cab company refusing to take its customers where they wanted to go because the destination was not to the liking of the cab company. Ridiculous.
Thank goodness some competition has sprung up for the yellow cabs. Have only taken taxi libre a few times, but never have had any of these problems.

TIJUANA – A Los Angeles County man has been arrested in connection with the deaths of two city police officers, who were gunned down while patrolling the downtown area early Sunday morning.
At least seven witnesses identified Eduardo Muñoz Hearly, 26, of West Covina as the man the two police officers were trying to question when they were shot in the city's Zona Norte district, authorities said. Muñoz was arrested shortly after the shooting.
State police investigating the case said toxicology tests showed that Muñoz had methamphetamine and marijuana in his system.
"This person obviously was in an altered state of mind," said State Attorney General Antonio Martínez Luna.
State officials said Muñoz, a U.S. citizen, had been in Tijuana for several days before the crime occurred.
As officials prepared to file charges against Muñoz yesterday, they also attended funeral services for Juan Godinez Moreno and Ramiro Zamora Olivares, the eighth and ninth city police officers to die in the line of duty in the past two years.
City police officers patrol the streets and are usually first at the scene of a crime. State police usually oversee investigations.
Muñoz apparently was trying to visit a woman, possibly an ex-girlfriend, who lives in Zona Norte, an area where illegal activities and prostitution are rampant, police said.
After she refused to meet with him, Muñoz stormed off, allegedly threatening the apartment complex's night watchman with a 9mm pistol, police said.
Shortly afterward, Muñoz encountered the two police officers, who asked what he was doing in the area, police said,. Muñoz shot the officers as they got out of their car, then grabbed one of their guns and shot them again before fleeing, authorities said.
The officers were taken to a hospital, where they died Sunday.

Traffic was terrible from LA. It took 3 hours to get to the border. Yeech. I made it to Adelita by 8pm. It's been about 5-6 months since my last visit. the new spruced up look is nice, but I kinda miss to seedy look. I guess it just takes some getting used to. Personally, I have never had any trouble with the Mexican police during the course of extenive travels. Instead, I have found them to be tently polite and desirous of being helpful.
As to Yellow Cab, your stories confirm what I have heard and to a lesser extent experienced. I hope Taxi Libre, metered rides and free competition win out over the political clout behind the old system. Mexican citizens by the tens of thousands hope so too, which is why the Taxi Libre system is gaining steam.

The story says the guy who shot the officers was on meth. If there is one thing that concerns me about being in the Zona it is the prevalence of that drug. That is a very bad drug because, more so than any other drug I know of, it leads to paranoia and often bizarrely vicious violent behavior. Whenever I hear in the news of someone getting viciously and senselessly beaten to death (anywhere, not just in Mexico), I usually say to myself that it was probably meth-related, and my guess usually turns out to be right.
I have it on good authority that a sizeable percentage of the chicas, at Chicago especially, are on this drug, although the management takes a hard line against drug use. May explain some of the erratic behavior one sees from some of the chicas.

Just took my first trip out to San Diego and I had to go to TJ while I was there. Not wanting to sit around the bars like a novice and look like an ass, I decided to contact a board member or two to see if anyone was going down to TJ the same time.
Lucky for me Gekko was planning a trip the same time and was bringing PrintMan for his first trip. PrintMan and Gekko cruised into town from up north and we grabbed a bite to eat before crossing the border early in the afternoon.
Crossing was a breeze and not wanting to waste time, we grabbed a taxi and headed to AB. I sprung right away eyeing all the delicious morsels standing around. I was never sure, but have recently the local policia seem to be inconsistently stricter. I am a pretty innocent looking guy (so I think), but even I was questioned and searched twice! Someone said that there is a growing drug problem in the Zona. I sure don't get the problems elsewhere in TJ.
Anyone shed some light on this? My heart rate and blood pressure shot through the roof when these guys stopped me, questioned me, and put me through the ringer!
I went down to TJ last Saturday and I have to make a couple of observations. I've been to Adelitas a few times and it's always been the best thing going as far as I could tell, but this time was different. The quality of the girls was way down from what I've seen before, and they were outnumbered by the hombres by about 2 to 1. I selected a girl that seemed acceptable and bought her a drink and took her upstairs. When we got to the room, she was all business. She wanted her $60 up front, no problem, but then she just layed there and waited for me to finish. I don't blame a girl for doing something like that in this business, but it's not going to make me a repeat customer. Afterwards, I cruised the alley and was pleasantly surprised by the quantity and quality of the girls there. I didn't hang out for too long because a cop saw me talking to a local guy (one of the guys out trying to drum up business for the clubs) and the cop started harassing us, trying to get money from me. I asked some taxi guys about this a few months back and they said they have noticed an increase in crime and drug use in the zona. They said that it is a lot more noticeable in TJ in general, particularly the Zona. For what its worth!

I've looked at that website for 'La Adelitas' and, at first glance, it looks pretty suspicious to me. For one thing, most of the pictures look like they were copied from some fashion magazine or something. And for another thing, only one of the girls I'm pretty sure I've seen at Adelitas(that would be the picture of Tania in the uppermost left hand corner of the website).

Decided to try mongering before 9 am for the first time in over 25 years. I figured going earlier in the morning in Zona Norte alley would be a laid back nice take it easy experience and the chica would be more attentive because there would hardly be any chicas - or customers on the street for the SGs to get money from in an assembly line. Re: increased drug usage in TJ.
If the mainstream news sources (Nightline, etc.) are to be believed, the tightening of the border since 9/11, and successes against the cartels (like Arellano Felix) have actually had some effect. Since it's harder to move the drugs north, the pipeline backs up, and local sales increase. Plausible explanation, but who knows.
I don't know if drug usage recently has increased or decreased in Tijuana, but I do know it is prevalent in the Zona, among the chicas and otherwise. One should never lose sight of the fact that the Zona is what it is, which is roughly the equivalent of an American inner city. It has the same issues and problems, including crime and drugs, although I don't think it is as violent as the worst parts of major American cities.
A couple of years ago, I got to know a chica at Chicago Club very well. She estimated that over 50% of the girls there were into drugs, particularly crystal meth. This chica was certainly in a position to know and had no reason to lie. She also told me that the management strongly discourages drug use and will throw out a chica who is caught with drugs, so the chicas are not open about it. Through her friends, who became more comfortable with me than the average customer, I was offered cocaine and meth on more than one occasion, and I had no interest and did nothing to solicit this.
Once I had my eyes opened to the drug issues, I definitely started to notice more drug related behavior among the chicas. Being a prostitute is usually not an easy thing psychologically and it is not surprising that some of the chicas turn to drugs, and it also may be a drug problem that leads them to the choice to become prostitutes in the first place. This is a common reason in the US for a woman to become a streetwalker and it is no different in Mexico, and I am not sure why anyone would think it is different.
I think that some of us who go to the Zona have rose colored glasses and want to kind of romanticize the experience. I understand this, as one of the reasons I go to Tijuana is because there is something about crossing the border that is transformative, and I do things there that I do not do in the US. We don't want to think about the underbelly of this alternate reality place. But the Zona is not Disneyland for adults, one big happy place for us to go for pleasure. I say go, have fun, as I do, but let's not kid ourselves, it is a hard place.

I've heard that many girls who work at the AB will tell you they work there so they can send money to their poor family back home. I had a hard time believing this story and just figured the chicas were putting their hard earned money in their banco account.
Drug use might explain some of the agressive behavior the chicas exhibit trying to get customers. Although, I personally haven't noticed the paranoia that usually accompanies hard drug use. Most of the chicas appear to be quite relaxed and friendly, leading me to believe that they are not drug abusers.

Don't get me wrong, certainly not all the chicas are on drugs and, in fact, I believe many women in Mexico make the choice to become prostitutes simply because the money is so good compared to other opportunities available to women in that country. It is a third world country and wages are low even in quasi-professional jobs. For example, a secretary in Mexico might make $6-10k a year. I think prostitutes in Mexico are much smarter on average than American prostitutes because there just are not as many other outlets for smart women in Mexico to make decent money as in the United States.
This also explains why a very large percentage of the chicas in the Zona bars have children. These women have children, the relationship with the husband or boyfriend falls apart (based on the Zona chicas, one would have to conclude that Mexican men are cads, and often violent towards women), the legal system typically does not require the men to pay child support, there are few decent economic opportunities available in the country (especially for women), they hear about the amount of money they can make in the Zona, and they make the choice to pursue that line of work. These women come to Tijuana from all over Mexico. They are trapped in a bad legal and economic system and they rationalize that they going to Tijuana for their children and that they will only do it for a short time. It is actually a quite rational and understandable economic decision.
But the line of work, the environment, and the sacrifice of being away from their children and families takes a toll and ultimately, if they stay with it, it does seem for many to lead a hardening process and self-destructive behavior like drugs.

Try $3,000-$4,500 per year US for a full-time professional secretary!
We as American's think we are getting such a bargain paying the girls at Ab $50-$60 a pop, when in reality when you compare wages for these Women for similar US jobs, they are making three times what a US hooker is making. (Comparatively speaking.)

I would think that with the exchange rate of peso/dollar you should be able to get away with lower rates. Let me know if that was successful or not. I do know that a lot of the SG will go for $20 for their services and then $5 for the room. As Tang was mentioning in his report – we all have to do our part to keep costs low. Paying more doesn’t get you any better service.
As much as I would love to see the price come down in TJ, I do not personally think it is a realistic goal. The market is always driven by supply and demand. And if you look at the number of gringos on any given night in TJ, case is closed period. Unless of course we decide to boycott TJ for a few weeks to cut the demand drastically but there are way too many horny guys up north, including myself. :)

The air quality is really bad and may not clear up completely by the weekend. There are higher quality masks, but I don't know where to get them.

No, I'm not talking about driving down the prices. I'm just stating a fact that you can get laid at AB for $40/$50 (full service) and that you can get SG's for $20 (again full service). If you want to pay $60 in AB and $30 for SG then feel free and waste your money.
But those are the prices I paid. None of the "hot" chicas in AB batted an eye when $50 was offered. Only offered one AB chica $40 and she was a go too, but she was a 7-8 on the rating scale. The SG's kinda balked at first on $20, but after talking for a while, they capitulated. Again, not ficticious drive down prices, but actual paid for service prices.

I was in TJ for the first time earlier this year, and have a chance to go back in the near future. While I was floored by the selection avaliable, I was somewhat disappointed by the "wham bang, thank you amigo" kind of rushed service. I for one can not get in the mood completly if these isn't some amount of foreplay, the bay area massage parlors experience is a good experence where the girls at lease rub their bodies against yours for a while before they start on the bj.

I probably don't have to remind anyone out there but listen up, there are a few important items you need to park behind the left lobe if you are going to TJ or anywhere in Mexico. This info is good and comes from HWE (a new abbreviation!! Hard Won Experience and ex LE knowledge)
1. If you are taking your vehicle, you MUST obtain insurance from a carrier licensed in Mexico. Your insurance (and I don't care who you are insured with state side) is NOT VALID and NO GOOD in Mexico. Having a problem (accident) in Mexico could result in you being locked up and your vehicle impounded, you may not ever see it again. TJ jails are very bad. Heed my warning. I can give you directions on this.
1a) If you are in LA or SD and recently reported your *recovered* vehicle stolen, it (the vehicle) is probably on a watch list in Baja which includes TJ etc. TJ police co-operate with LA and SD (and most other jurisdictions) on stolen vehicles. So mate if your license pops up on their system, you will spend the rest of the night proving that everything is OK. If you recover your vehicle, either don't take it to Mexico for about 90 days OR contact your local PD and let them know you are going south. They might be able to help you with documentation (copy of recovery report etc).
1b) Don't drive like a moron. They have traffic laws in Mexico. People will walk into the street and if you hit one, game over -your stay WILL be extended. Red means STOP (most of the time for Mexico Taxi Cabs) ALWAYS for us gringos, green means GO -same as here in the US. Stop Signs are red and they say "ALTO" but they are smaller than State side so you have to look for them at EVERY intersection. Watch out for the one way streets, they are not always marked. Don't give traffic cops a reason to stop you. They can tie you up for a long time and do things you will not understand. They also get pissed off when they see a USA plate out there being abusive and driving like an idiot - so don't do it.
2. DO NOT take a firearm (or ammunition of any kind) to the boarder. I don't care if you are active or retired LE or Military. It is a felony and you WILL DO TIME. Maybe LE or retired LE can cut a deal but don't count on it. Carefully remove all traces of firearms/ammo. Again, Christmas in the TJ lockup is not a happy experience. That's where you'll be if they find this stuff on you or in your vehicle.
3. If you are waived over for an inspection, (rare) be nice to the cops no matter how rude they might be to you. Pop your trunk, be very cop-operative and respectful (these guys are really policemen too and are some of the bravest men I've ever met). Most of the time it is a very brief and uneventful experience, they just want to look int he trunk so if you were being bad and are frightened suck it up. DO NOT offer money to these guys, it is dis-respectful. Be nice and straight-forward. Do not get out of your vehicle and keep your hands where they can see them -be real cool- you (and they)are being watched by several people that you (and they) can't see. If you look upset or nervous, RED FLAG!!!! There goes all your shit out of your vehicle - big inconvenience, bad experience, unhappy place, unhappy faces etc etc. Don't get froggy on 'em.
4. If you are taking some of that prescription THC, better not let them find it. That too is a felony and they WILL lock you up. I have a method of concealment - email me. As soon as I am convinced that you are legit I will share.
5. Treat the ladies with dignity and respect. Not only is it good manners but you are being watched by bouncers and any sign of mis-treatment will not work in your favor - even being rude. A fight broke out while I was at AB last week and believe me, I never saw such efficient crowd control. A couple of very large men broke the thing up and threw the guys out RIGHT NOW - no more Mr. Nice Guy- all business. What must it be like to be banned from AB?
These beautiful girls have their reasons for making themselves available to us who appreciate their beauty and their service -mostly economic. Call them *****s if you want, but what does that make you? My experiences are that they keep themselves clean and they also take precautions that protect them and us (even though their condoms are like army helmets- that's why I bring my own). Don't be a dick-head. If you can't appreciate the beauty and business at the same time, re-think your situation.
6. Yes, you ARE in another country but there is no need to be squeemish (?) about it. Behave as any visitor should and they will reciprocate. Keep your wits about you and be cool - you'll do great (especially at AB).
7. Do your research. Getting lost in TJ is no fun. The maps suck, all the street names sound funny (like in Hawaii) and when you are in the "off main" areas, there are not many English speakers so getting back on track could be a problem (if you're like me and don't speak Spanish - shame on me). Cops are helpful in these situations, don't be afraid to approach them, but do me a favor and have a TJ map in your hand -they have no idea who you are so this will tip them off that you are (like me) a stupid gringo who got himself lost in TJ. There's been alot of reform in the TJ Police department and even though there are dick-heads and fat badges there, there are just as many (if not more) here-believe me.
The Mexican people are a beautiful people and the ladies (with few exceptions) are the stuff that dreams are made of - much more so than American women. Being capable of enjoying the whole experience starts with you. There is no reason why your foray south of the boarder can't be a fantasy come true with these beautiful women. My goodness, all you have to do is remember a few basics and your party hat to enjoy the experience of a lifetime. How tough can that be?
8. Ripoffs - If you get ripped off by a lady or you do a terrible job in negotiating or if you believe that you are being ripped off, I mean if you fucked it up that bad and got yourself into this kind of a situation, here is what you do:
Nothing.
Put your clothes on, be respectful but short to the girl- let her know that you are not happy, learn your lesson get the hell out and re-think your approach.
DO NOT get punchy with the girl (you could get hurt), most of the rooms are bugged.
DO NOT complain to management (they don't give a shit about you anyway) and you could end up getting thrown out.
DO NOT run your big mouth (you could end up in a different room from your teeth).
Your deal is with the girl, not the club. If you screw up then tough shitskys. There is always another girl. Try harder next time. The girls do this every day, how often do you do it? They know what you want the second you come through the door - you're not kidding anybody so don't kid yourself. Be clear and cool and polite. Make them WANT you. They are very sensitive and sensual but will turn on you if you mistreat them and hell hath no fury like a Mexican woman scorned - believe me.

Liked your post. From my experience, it is mostly good advice, especially the part about what to do if the girl does not deliver as promised (i.e. just move on) and bringing your own condoms. The condoms are often truly industrial strength. Some condoms are amazing in eliminating all feeling and pleasure. These type of condoms effectively do lead to safe sex because they remove all pleasure from it and, especially after two or three pops earlier in the day, make it difficult to complete it.
I do seriously doubt your statement about the rooms being bugged. That would require a level of techical sophistication and investment that is not in evidence in any of the Zona bars. I mean, for goodness sake, these places are not even air-conditioned. There is no way that the owners have the willingness to spend on surveillance equipment or hiring people to monitor it.
I agree with Irishman about the unlikelihood of bugged rooms.
I also agree in general with moving on. But I ask --- if service is completely substandard and rushed, or clearly contrary to what was agreed, is a quick and polite word to the club manager worth it? Or can someone come up with another idea?
Of course the club does not care about your individual good times and will tell you it is between her and you, but they do care about reputation. Repeated complaints about a chica and I suspect they would be done with her, or at least talk to her.
Kind of depends on whether you want to improve the situation for future mongers or get back at the chica. Individuals may differ in their response. Whatever you do, be polite and sober.
I do not think that you can beyond weeding out obvious unhappy types whether a working woman will do as she says, so I disagree (except for newbies) that you should spend too much time after a bad experience in planning a better strategy for next time. I pushed it to the limit once in the hotel room after a bad AB experience. I do not recommend that strategy. I refused to instantly pay in full after a ten - minute complete rush job salted with particularly bad attitude and complete reversal from the friendly person that had been in the bar. The session was supposed to last a half hour and that had been clearly discussed. I said I wanted to talk for the rest of the half hour, about doing what you say. She called the manager, and the police also came. All were polite but firm. The police offered the choice of paying in full or going downtown to the station to further explain. Of course I then paid, but by that point I suspect the management was sick of the chica and got the point. And the chica would have been better off not rushing in the first place.
In hindsight I took some risk....of a shakedown or a trip to 'el carcel'... But I suspect that AB very much does not want non-abusive customers hassled by the police. And at some point really bad service is pretty tough to take. I sympathize with these women, but they need to move on if they hate the work that much. They may be used to the income by that point so moving on is hard...
There were two murders in Zona Norte last night (Friday) and one the day or so before, so be careful. I think the area will be crawling with Federales this evening.

Any post that begins with "I agree with Irishman" is automatically a great post. Yours is an interesting story about making an issue of poor service. I think management ultimately has to back the girls in any dispute like yours. The girls need more protection, are more sympathetic, and, bottom line, it is more difficult for club management to attract attractive chicas to do what they do than it is to attract customers. So backing the chica in any dispute makes all the chicas more comfortable working there. The need to make the chicas feel safe and supported outweighs the need to satisfy one customer. Moreover, the reality is that good word of mouth that there are great looking chicas at AB is far more valuable than occasional bad word of mouth about bad service is damaging to AB.
Also, Americans, with our reputation for arrogance and smug superiority, who complain just generate resentment, even when it is justified. So what happened with you being given a choice of paying or going to jail, or some other negative consequence for the customer, will always happen when there is a dispute with the chica. One absolutely cannot win, even when one is right.
By the way, although I advocate always paying after, as I have said before, I still pay even when the service is poor. There is no choice. The paying after instead of before is designed to keep the proper psychological dynamics of the situation.
I think perhaps a quiet, rational word afterwards with management cannot hurt, however and I would think may make some difference if enough people complain about a particular chica.

Tj was loaded with gringos this evening. I usually don't go on weekends, but after several cruises around San Diego. I figured I'm just wasting time. So the objective was to see how fast I could do a loop. No room at Cascadas, No adelitas - just down, find a favorite street girl and back.

Never paid in advance except to a SW in Honolulu just past International Marketplace, by the Aston - The first approach was for $150.00, second was for $100 which I took. Major mistake. In Mexico, it is most certainly possible to have a GFE with the right girl even if it is a 30 minute pop. It's when you expect that 30 minutes to never end that you get that "left behind" or the "half fucked fox in a forrest fire" feeling at the end of it. Start by being nice and sensual in the bar before going to the room, by embraces, pecks on the cheek, hands on the waist, massage the back and shoulders - you know the things that feel good (not too many drinks now, ya hear?) A cops response mechanism is tuned to a perceived threat level. In some cases it's tuned to an aggravation level. In the first example, if the cop gets the perception that YOU want to knock his head off, police training kicks in and he knocks your off first! Just like in the movies. Aggravation can peak if you don't "behave," "move on," "keep your hands where I can see 'em," etc. You get the message. The guy who got killed could have been high, drunk, belligerant all of the above, none of the above. It's the kind of thing where you have to be there I guess. I never killed anyone but came close, I'll not get into this stuff here.
I'm off to Mexicali this week looking for an all nighter after a 1st pop at MM. I'll post a good report in the Mexicali section. Then it;s back to TJ and AB - wow, I can't wait.

CORRECTION the twin murders occurred in Zona Rio, not Zona Norte. First reports was wrong. The murders occurred at 1:50 a.m. Friday night (Saturday morning). Two 30ish mexican males were gunned down, execution style, in their $ 60,000 BMW car. Probably drug or gang related. No impact on street scene, apparently, as reports indicate that it remains crowded.

It serves as a good warning, although it seems he was in more trouble in one night than I have been in, cumulatively, in years. His ethnicity (black) may have made him a target, and he clearly did not help matters. Of course he did not deserve to die, and if the police did it that is outrageous.

Based on living in Mexico and talking to the cops many times, here is a quick lesson for the uninitiated: There are only a few safe things to say to a TJ Cop: Yes Sir, No Sir, Sorry Sir, can I please pay the fine directly to you? and Thank you Sir. Never ever ever argue or be disrespectful. They earn less than $200 a month, usually got the job by bribing someone, have no meaningful training, and virtually no accountability. Considering all this, they are generally nice and helpful IF you are respectful and play the game, but you do NOT want to interact with the cops or the judicial system in Mexico unless you absolutely have to. Don't carry more $$$ into TJ than you are willing to lose. The cops AND the robbers know enough to look in your underwear and your shoes. Hobby Fan was probably safe to argue with the cops b4 paying his $50, ONLY because the cops try NOT to cause a scene at the bars because (surprise!) their superiors get a cut of the action. But I wouldn't take the risk, as the outcome is a foregone conclusion, as noted below. No TJ cop is ever gonna take the side of a Gringo against a Mexican. You have absolutely no rights except the right to end up dead. The U.S. consulate has no power or influence in TJ. They will just hand a Xeroxed list of (corrupt) Mexican lawyers to your family. So play safe and come back often! On a funny note, the Taco stands in front of AB, which were there for 20 years, and paid protection, disappeared recently, and heck they even fixed the sidewalk! Are they gonna clean up our little neighborhood and put in some more piñata shops and a 24 hour ATM in front of AB?

It seems so easy to go into to the zone party and leave without any problems. I've only been stopped once. I crossed the street into the "drug zone" according to the policeman. He let me go, no problem.
As far as the cleanup, I posted a month ago about the same thing. I predict the end of the street girls in a few years. This way all the gringo $$$ will go into the clubs. Chouila will look like Rev. Here's part of an article I found:"The excess that is easily had in Tijuana comes at a price: one US citizen per day dies in Tijuana and the surrounding area of Baja California, according to the American consulate in TJ. Another three Americans per day are reported missing. It is the most active and perilous tourist destination in the world." I'd like to belive that an informed monger who knows where to go and how to behave can avoid being that 'one per day'. My last trip down was my best of 3 times. If I lived an hour away instead of 3, I could see myself going once a month or more. I just couldn't see bringing one of my nephews down there for any reason. Aside from AB, there's not a thing down there that I want to see or smell again.

From my experience a very small percentage of AB chicas will do BBBJ. Four or five have said yes to my request, and I have asked many more than that, and not even asked others whom it just struck me as obvious would not agree. All who have agreed were slightly older than average and less good-looking than average, and thus presumably willing to do this out of a need to obtain business.
My experience matches yours with SGs, although I have found a couple who were willing to do it after a couple of sessions, although not to completion. It is kind of odd, it is the reverse of AB, the SGs who have agreed were very young and attractive.
Some say otherwise, but based on my research, the risks from receiving a BBBJ are acceptable to me. Risks to the recipient from oral sex are very small (not so to the chica giving it, but I pose no risk to the chica because I have no disease). I guess everyone has their own view of acceptable risks. But HIV is not transmitted to the male from BBBJ, I don't believe there is a documented case of transmission in this manner. "In regards to receiving oral sex, this is very low risk for HIV and most other STD's. The primary STD risk here is for Herpes infection. If a person giving you oral sex has an oral Herpes lesion on their lip (also known as a "cold sore"), they can transmit the Herpes virus to your penis/vagina. So, in sum, unless the chica giving BBBJ (1) has herpes; and (2) the herpes is active and she has an open sore on her mouth, the risks are very minimal from BBBJ.
I would not recommend leaving a minor alone in TJ. If you are going to do it anyway, Plaze Rio may be the only place I would even think about leaving a minor in TJ. It is an American style mall with a couple of very nice movie theatre complexes which show many of the movies in English with Spanish subtitles. If you took the kid to the theatre, found a movie running at least a couple of hours, you could be back to meet him as he exits. Any cab driver knows where this mall is.

For many months the exchange rate has hovered around 11 pesos to the dollar. This is excellent, and it does mean one is better off using pesos, as most places in TJ and most chicas use a standard 10 to 1 rate for simplicity. In other words, a chica will consider 500 pesos to be the equivalent of $50 dollars, but it only costs a little more than $45 to buy 500 pesos.
I have been going to ATMs in Tijuana and withdrawing pesos rather than withdrawing dollars on the US side before crossing, and will continue to do so while the exchange rate is favorable. Recently, I withdrew 3000 pesos, which buys you the equivalent of 300 dollars, but this showed on my account as only a $271 withdrawal. Saved $29. It's a no-brainer.
I must note that while the 10 to 1 rate is standard and most in TJ use that, occasionally one does go into a bar or runs into a chica or cab driver who is savvy about the exchange rate. I had a chica at an MP recently. We had agreed upon service for $50 (I still negotiate in dollars) and when I went to pay with 500 pesos, she demanded 50 more pesos to compensate. Smart chica. I didn't argue, she was right. One cab driver did a similar thing. And the strip club at Hotel Caeser has not only adjusted for the exchange rate, they are using an exchange rate of 11.5 pesos to each dollar, which is inflated. This means that one should use dollars there (better yet, just avoid the place altogether, as it kind of sucks).
OK, guys. Back to TJ on business this coming Sunday. Meeting up with Gekko (I hope!) and possibly some other explorers. I have had a great time meeting WSG members, and truth to tell, the girls almost become a secondary fun item if you're with a bunch of fun guys.

Since Tuesday was a holiday I went to AB on a Monday night since I've never been on a weekday. Talent was decent and not very crowded. Sorry about your experience at AB, something is definitly wrong here.
It's almost like you tried to lose. (I'm sure you didn't.) Funny how this happens.
I would NOT, as a rule go to AB on a weekend. Mostly because I hate the crowds.
But the game and the rates must surely go up when the x and y chromosomes (?) start to even up on the end of the week days and weekend. I do not have the time or patience to play that game.

I agree with Country John and FlapJack on the whole person-oriented approach. My disappointments usually center around experiences where the girl does not even attempt to reciprocate. Senor Frogs for dinner & a huge margarita around 9:30 PM on a Tuesday night. More people than I saw on Sunday night, but everyone in there was in small groups who knew each other well. two of the officers forced the father and son to walk to several nearby atm machines and then robbed the money they withdrew. another officer took the wife to a mexican police office located adjacent to san ysidro's pedestrian crossing and raped her while the fourth officer stood guard outside, according to the criminal complaint the family filed with escalante's office.

I've always walked back to the border from the ZN. But a couple of weeks ago, I decided to take a taxi. All the post regarding crime in TJ kinda scared me. From the posts on this board, I knew to look for Taxi Libre. It took a while to find one in the ZN, but I kept looking. I eventually hailed on down and went for the ride to la linea. I was quite pleased. $2.50 from the ZN to the Border at about midnight. The driver took me very close to the port of entry. I gave him tres and told him to tienes el cambio.
These stories about TJ cops are crazy. It's good to know what really goes on down there in TJ.

i actually live in baja california and deal with the mexican police and other officials on a regular basis. there have been several posts recently giving people advice regarding how to deal with the mexican police and terrible stories regarding misconduct attributed to the police in mexico. i don't claim to be an expert on mexican law enforcement but i would like to give my opinion based upon personal experience and actually living in baja.
first the vast majority of the police in baja that i have encountered have been very nice and decent people. the police in tj receive training before they are hired, like american police acadamies, and continued training throughout their time on the force. next time you see a fight or other disturbance in a bar in tj watch how quickly and efficiently it is handled by the police and then you decide whether they receive training.
is there corruption? of course there is, you are dealing with police that make about a 10th of what their american counterparts make and are at least 10 times more likely to be hurt or killed on the job. since fox took over, however, the vast majority of that corruption is directed towards native mexicans. officials are actively seeking out corruption against tourists, they have even installed "cameras vigilantes" in areas where officials deal extensively with tourists. as a white guy that drives a car with california plates it is my opinion that the mexican police will side with the american 9 out of 10 times unless you give them a reason not to.
if you do have an occassion to deal with the police in mexico, i would recommend that you simply be courteous and respectful and i would advise against directly offering a bribe unless some overture is made by the officer or unless he seems to be just kind of waiting around for you to do so. if the cop is writing a ticket or taking other action offering a bribe could land you in deeper water.
as far as the story about the [CodeWord123] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord123), i seem to remember that a couple of years ago a la cop got busted for cruising around and [CodeWord125] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord125) women in his patrol car. and corruption, how about rampart. in other words human trash is everywhere.
so instead of contributing to the fear mongering i would just advise all to use common sense and you should be fine on you visists south.

I moved to SD not long ago but haven't made the trip to TJ yet. From the reports lately, I think it would be safe to have some numbers in going, particularly for a first-timer like me.

Amen. Way too many stories about average Joe's getting busted for "nothing". I have been going to TJ -alone- at all hours of the day/night to cruise for chics & beer. I take a cab, I keep to the areas with people, keep my money to myself and never get too wasted when alone. I treat everyone with respect and have ALWAYS received the same in return. Be smart, stay at least 40% sober and be nice. In other words, use common sense :)

I didn't see any taxi stike in TJ this week at all, including today so I don't know what he is talking about. It's taxi business as usual and plenty of taxi libres around.
I went down on Tuesday. Not too crowded. I was surprised by the way they have cleaned up the zone. It's been a couple months since my last visit. New street lighting and center divider, nice, but I did miss some of the seediness. Did not observe any problems regarding taxis. I used a yellow cab and paid the usual five bucks.
On advice from a local guy working for one of the bars, I went into Mermaids. I really like the theme! Cute young girls in school uniforms licking on lollipops and they were good dancers too. Great couches. The service sucked, I did not get any help in there. I did not know about the massage part or I would have tried it. The girls are cute, but they pretty much ignored me. I will go back and hope to find out more.
I hung out there for a while not only for the scenery, but it is also the only cool place in the zone. I don't know about you guys but it seems like the moment I go into AB I feel like I'm in a sauna. I have to keep stepping outside just to cool off. I left fast just because I did not want any run ins with the authorities.
Overall an interesting trip.
OK OK it wasn't a strike, more like a protest. And I was right those ripoff artists in the yellow cab are whining about Taxi Libre.

TIJUANA – Claiming their livelihood is threatened, hundreds of Mexican taxi drivers stood blocking the streets near the San Ysidro border crossing yesterday in a protest that prevented cars from entering Tijuana and created a logjam on Interstate 5.
The drivers of the ubiquitous yellow-colored cabs complained of strained relations with city officials, including excessive paperwork and operating fees.
City police said the drivers are angry, however, that a competitive line of cabs, white in color and named Taxi Libre, is operating near the border, offering passengers less expensive, metered rides for about $2.50 to Avenida Revolucion compared with a typical set price of $5 or more asked by yellow-cab drivers.
The street blockade was another episode in a long, contentious relationship about how the city's transportation system of taxis and buses is regulated. More disputes are likely, drivers said.
About 250 drivers of the yellow taxis and perhaps 300 other people blocked the wide avenue entering Tijuana from about 3 to 5 p.m. after a march on the mayor's office, said Javier Cardenas, a senior Tijuana Police Department official.
The protesters also slowed traffic on routes leaving Tijuana for San Diego, American officials said. Drivers said they disrupted the main artery to the border to draw the most attention to their demands.
They dispersed after Mayor Jesús González Reyes called group leaders, promising to meet with them next week, Cardenas said. No spokesmen for the drivers was available yesterday afternoon. Drivers discussing the protest declined to give their names.
Though disruptive to traffic, the protesters were peaceable, said Tijuana police spokesman Raul García Gastelum, and no arrests were made.
San Diego police were dispatched to direct traffic through surface street intersections near the border.

I wonder how is it that Taxi Libre (TL) can charge $2.50 while the yellow cabs charge $5-$6? I know that TL is better because they are more appealing to us (our wallets, actually).
Does TL have a lower overhead? Are they receiving any funds from the city? I just have to wonder about this and not just label the yellow cabs "ripoffs" yet. I figure that the normal reaction for them would be to lower their prices to get some business; some business is better than no business.
One major difference that I've observed is that TL uses more fuel-efficient cars while yellow cabs usually have bigger gas guzzlers.
Has anyone been to Rosarito lately? I own a house on the ocean in Rosarito Beach, lately the action has been improving considerably.Cuatro Camino's near the entrance of town right by the Pemex has actually picked up some sweet babes, although most are still skanky. Ask for Norma, she's a solid 8.5 with a very friendly attitude, if she likes she will take you upstairs to her room if not you will have to get a hotel. There is a couple of places in town,most are overpriced with average babes. I'm a TJ regular but until now never posted. I will comment on various topics of interest to member's. Taxi Libre, I was told by 2 yellow Cub driver's is owned by the Governor of Baja, California. Politics, Power and Business is very intersting. Yellow Cub is concerned about the proposal by the Governor to close the Yellow Cub Taxi Park, next to the USA border and replace it with public transport. Naturally, Yellow Cub is worried of being driven out busines. You guys excited about the $2.50 fare beaware after the competition is crushed, Taxi Libre if it were to become the only game in TJ, may charge any rates it wants!
About clubs: AD rocks and the girls are more fun than CC, your mileage will vary so, pick with great care. Friday & Saturday while more Chicas, there are far too many mongers. That means no price deals, short time upstairs and talk of all night unlikely. I find Thur & Sun a good balance between Chica and the crowds. AD $40-$50 & CC $50 is easy. Below that must be old/urgly ones. Prices: High in TJ compared to other destinations other than Europe as in most other place $50 can buy you 1-2hrs time. So, guys don't jerk up the prices as for 20 minutes $50 is fair I feel.
Surprise: You may be able to negotiate more time say 1hr for a good rate on slow days or late in the morning. All night possible too but way in the wee hours of the morning. The girls claim they have to sell 20 drink tickets otherwise, they have to pay the club. You do the math 20 tickets at $7 and how much you wil have to pay the girl outside the club for an all night! SW: Basically, a warm up to get off before the main course at AD or CC. It is a cheap release. Don't look for bells and whistles here buddy. It is not happening. Once in a while, you might strike it but that is not the norm with SW. Dingy hotel room, no clothes off, just lay there is the standard. So, just wam bam and go. Viagra: Yes, the blue pill does work because you can do up to 5 chica's in a day. Try to do that without the pill and see how easy it is for little Johnie to respond. Chica drinks: I only buy for those Chica's I want to do. Otherwise, it can get very expensive very quickly. Those bloody yellow and green cabs charge your gringo butt twice as much as they charge locals. Then they expect a 20% tip. Why? because we conditioned them to charge and expect it. What I hate about them is that they make you believe thare's no other mode of transportation or to walk through their little army of cabs will mean instant death.
For example; Before I became enlightened to TL. I used to follow the masses to the cabs, say how much Adelitas? Accept the $5 or $6 bucks plus the $1 dollar tip. How I found out that their was taxi libre was talking thru the yellow bastards because I was thirsty. I wandered thru to the stands, as I was walking thru, the yellow bastard said, "don't go over there, you'll get in trouble, there are no cabs over there just trouble" So I'm thinking trouble = street meat!!! I was hoping to troll up some panocha and viola Taxi Libre.
So screw the yellow bastards. Now that TL is available in front of caliente, I'm temtped to print off a thousand fliers and hand them out at the gate... on the US side of course, to inform the blind tourist of the Yellow bastard scam.

Went to Mermaids again last night after having a few beers in AB. AB was packed full of people like always. A few trolls came up to me buy me Drink buy me drink. I shrugged them off and they left me alone.

The TJ cops are getting brazen again. Several cruisers are lurking just north of the Chicago Club on Constitucion and x-streets and pulling over every gringo car for a shakedown. After getting shook down twice this month I have gone back to the park and taxi routine, leaving my car on the US side.
i have been reading this site for some time but this is my first post. i apologize to all the other members for taking there infor and not sharing anything for so long. now to the point:

also, i noticed that at the time that you were being shaken down by the mexican police you were also at help in rio. man, you must have a private jet or something. if you have something helpful, and hopefully truthful to add to the forum please do so, but don't just keep making up stories to amuse yourself or make yourself seem important and knowledgeable. i drive across from n. county san diego at least a couple of times a month and was actually down there on this last friday and saturday nights, i had friends here from the east coast, i was not shaken down nor did i see any such thing. if you run a stop sign or break the mexican traffic laws then the tj police may well be brazen enough to pull you over and shake you down, otherwise in the five years that i have been driving over i have never had or witnessed a problem.

Calle Coahuilla has changed a lot since my last visit and now has a wider, cleaner street with a concrete center divider lined up with palm trees. Taxi cabs no longer congregate in front of Adelita's door which preserves the cleanliness and accessibility of the street, but they now crowd the street in front of Chicago Club.
It was the usual dimly lit search-for-a-chick atmosphere at Adelita, where my friends and I had one trip each to the hotel room upstairs with our choice of partners, and then moved on to Las Chevalas finding fresher grounds.
Not as crowded as Adelita's, brighter lighting, and with less customers to serve the waiters come to you more often, to ask if you want a drink or a girl, or both.
I did not partake at this time, and had come up with the excuse that I have just come out of Adelita's hotel room and need time to recover. (At age 55, recovery time is fairly long!)
Two of my friends have taken their dates to the room
and I gather that the place provides cleaner rooms/sheets/ towels plus there are no towel boys who constantly run around banging on doors yelling time is up, or hassle every john for room cleaning fees or tips.

I cannot speak to the other poster you mention, but I have been traveling to Baja my entire life, first with my parents and then continualy as an adult. Currently I own a small house in Rosarito and travel there as often as my schedule permits, I can say with absolute certainty the TJ Police have stepped up thier shake down campaign. The worse part about it is, they used to be after a 20 spot, but now they have set thier sites on something much grander. A conspiracy? Doubtful, most likely it is just the result of ignorance on the part of Americans. If you get pulled over, try to have your act in order, just as you would if you were pulled over by an American cop, Registration, insurance etc. Do not offer a bribe at any time and if you are threatened with having to go to jail call their bluff. Unless you have been drinking you will be let free, you may get a ticket but the fines are reasonable and can be payed by mail. Do not drink and drive and if you do be prepared to pay a substantial "Propina" to get your self back on the road again. Taxi's are cheap and as I have posted earlier I am glad to see the "fun" improving in Rosarito. Incidently, the Rosarito Police are a different breed. The other day my lady and I had just finished dinner and a couple of beers, a cop came up to my car just after I had entered, he asked a few questions, told me I was illegally parked. Then let me go, without a doubt he knew I had been drinking (Yes I am gulty) but Rosarito depends heavly on the tourist and I think the cops simply have a different mandate.

You must be the luckiest guy I know out there. If you think that Tijuana cops are honest and not corrupt then you must be drunk. There are some honest cops but many are so corrupted that they not only shakedown Americans but also their own people. Why dont you go and ask any of the Mexicans if they trust the cops. You don't need to break the law for them to rip you off. One of my friends got stop because the corrupt cop said that he did not use the turn signal when he turned right at a stop sign. He let my friend go after he threaten to take my friend to the station if he doesn't get his $40.00, and that just one of many stories I have seen. Tijuana are full of corrupted cops so you need to wake up!

It's a tough life but the frequent flier miles are goooood. I USED to live in Mexico, now I commute between Calif, Rio and Buenos Aires. I am glad you have been lucky, but I know some TJ cops, they get $200 a month and have to pay for their own gun and uniform, so they HAVE to steal to live. For the "TJ is perfectly safe" crowd, just a reminder, four police CHIEFS of TJ have been murdered not far from where we hang out, probably by fellow police officers; e.g.:
"On Feb. 26, 2000 Tijuana's police chief, Alfredo de la Torre, was gunned down as he drove along a busy highway without bodyguards. A previous police chief, Federico Benitez Lopez, was murdered on the same highway in April 1994... Investigators found 102 bullets and 99 shells at the scene of the shooting."
When in TJ, I keep a low profile, show great respect to the police, and feel pretty safe, but it definitely ain't Kansas. If the cops will shoot their own police chief(s), I don't think they would worry much about shooting you or me. For a fun look at TJ cops, rent the movie "TRAFFIC" sometime. The TJ cops are more like an armed gang than a public service, but generally, you can avoid problems with the cops by not getting drunk, not using drugs, not arguing with the club employees or girls, not driving your own car around TJ, and NOT pissing in the alleys. I am curious, has anyone followed all these rules and still had any problems? As shown below, if stopped by the cops, opinions vary as to whether you should offer a bribe, wait for them to suggest one, or call their "bluff". I have heard good arguments for all three approaches. Personally I just offer to pay up. I am not going to take my car into TJ for the time being, but will go back to parking on the US side and take taxis.
Snowman66, Mexicans don't celebrate Thanksgiving and their stores amd places will be open unlike ours. Usually Wednesday and Thursday are very slow with Thursday busier.
Personally, I think it will be worse than usual because I suspect more giringos will be in TJ than usual with the same amount of women. The women in Mexico don't think like we do. They are not thinking of coming to work because there will be more gringos. I have found that the women could care less about our holidays as far as their work schedule. There are no TJ working girls HIV statistics available although I'm sure some in the zona may have HIV. I don't believe what you have posted.

Given the relatively low number of working girls in TJ, there really isn't a lot of published data on HIV/AIDS in TJ at the moment. One study of hispanic males in the San Diego/TJ had rather shocking numbers, though.
Last year, a Yale grad student conducted a study of working girls in TJ, but her results are not yet published. Bottom line: the girls don't use condoms with their boyfriends, and their boyfriends have very high levels of AIDS/HIV infection. Better be careful down there.

1. Anyone who has sexual relations with a prostitute without using a condom is a fool.

4. Most girls have enough sense to pack and use condoms. This tells us something. They don't already know something that we don't already know.

I have been going to several massage parlors in TJ for many years. Unfortunately, the selection tends to change often and you generally need to make the rounds before you find an acceptable provider. You can ask any cab driver to take you to Monte Carlo. They generally have 10 to 15 girls there and usually the quality is frighteningly poor. I have found that in the afternoon mid-week you occasionally come across a student trying to make money for books etc., or some other young girl that is there on a limited engagement to make money for various emergencies or needs. So I have found it worth my while to occasional check in at Monte Carlo. There are several others which are smaller than Monte Carlo but essentially the same story. Paris A Noche, on Revolution near Sanbornes and there are at least three small parlors directly behind Sanbornes. All of the parlors ask for forty to fifty dollars for an hour massage and then you negotiate with the girl for additional services, generally eighty to one-hundred twenty dollars. For those of you more familiar with TJ there is a new parlor which has opened in the former location of Mermaids, two blocks above Revolution, sorry but I am not sure of the street name. I have not been there yet but drove by and saw several girls in evening gowns standing in the window. There is also New Body which is often closed by the authorities and then re-opens. I want to know if there will be any other Mongers in the area on those dates? If so, my Spanish is excellent and I am a Mexican-American and a dual national so if you need some translation I can help if you respect the ladies. Most of you on here do, so it should be fun. It's been a VERY LONG time since I was last in TJ and I need a little information as to where everyone parks their car before going into TJ.
I would ideally like to park my car overnight somewhere on the U.S. side so I can stay in TJ overnight without worrying about it. (this is overnight for several days... so I do need info on the cost per night of parking) I also may want to take my car in, but I won't be driving much in TJ, just want to leave it parked in the supervised parking lot of a hotel or motel. It's a 1985 beater car with a decent engine and I may be taking it into Mexico on a permanent basis if it does not pass smog in December.

Parking on the US side, World Parking is the place to be. They charge by the 24 hour period, not the day rate which is 12 hours that the others charge. Plus it's right next to the border. I rented nice cars for my trips at times and nothing has happened to them.

TJ Trip Report
Went down to TJ this afternoon from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. I had a good time and left with a good feeling.
I parked in the Motel lot by the Jack in the Box. $4.00 for 8 hours. It's a pretty good price if you are coming back the same day. Better that $7.00 at the UETA.
This time I decided to change my US greenbacks to Mexican pesos since the rate on the Internet quoted the peso at 11.355 to 1 dollar. I went to a money changing place in San Ysidro and changed $140.00 USD into $1551 MXP. I was a little bummed when I realized that I only got 11.090 pesos to the dollar. But it was good enough. I felt like I got a free fifteen dollar. As I was walking in TJ, I noticed the exchange rates are better in TJ than in San Ysidro. Damm! Oh Well. I be smarter next time. I guess the overhead in TJ is less than in San Ysidro and therefore the commissions are less.
I first went over to AB. I'm putting all the good tips from this board to practice. (1) Never ask how much. Tell the girl what you are willing to pay. I did this. I asked for $50 and she agreed. (2) Pay in pesos. I did this as well. We agreed on $50 downstairs. Upstairs I gave her $500 pesos. She gladly took the money. Kerchiing!! I saved myself 10% off the cost of pussy! If you guys think that the girls don't know exactly how much you are giving them when you pay the $500 pesos and that you are cheating them out of $5 dollars you are fooling yourself. While all stores in TJ will take dollars the conversion rate given in stores is usually much lower than at the change houses or the ATM, the exception seems to be PEMEX gas stations which generally give a very high exchange. Also the further you travel into the country, less establishments will take dollars. These girls generally are paid in dollars and as they live in Mexico--and are generally trying to live as cheaply as possible-- they need to convert the dollars to pesos to shop and send the money to their families in the interior of the country, likely on a daily basis. So these girls likely know the exchange rate much better than you and simply decided it wasn't worth the trouble to argue over $5 dollars.

Be careful walking in the area near La Tropa. TJ Cop got some money out of me. Threatened to take me to station if I didn't give him bucks right there. Recent posts say there's a rise in police extorting money. I suppose the law of averages caught up with me.
I've analyzed the experience and maybe I can avoid repeating it if I:
1. Dress down. I had a long sleeve collared shirt, slacks, and black shoes. Nothing fancy but in TJ maybe I looked like someone with some money to spend.
2. Don't walk around alone in La Tropa area, especially after midnight. That was the first time I'd been around there that late alone. Cops may hang out around there to prey on mongers.
3. Take taxis at night when alone in the Zona.
For those who haven't read Brockton O'Toole's latest TJ Guide I recommend it. It's in the Tijuana index. Even though I'm not a first timer to TJ I found his thoughts on Zona Norte Safety helpful. And this recent experience made me even more cautious in TJ.

Holy shit! Do the girls across the street from the Miami bar disregard personal hygiene? Research: Circumcision reduces HIV infection sevenfold

Circumcision reduces by sevenfold the incidence of infection with the HIV virus, according to new research to be published this week in Uruguay, Dr. Yinon Shenkar informed the Knesset Committee for the Advancement of the Status of Women on Monday.
Shenkar warned, however, that Israel should not be complacent about risks of AIDS as a result of the research, noting that a certain percentage of new immigrants are not circumcised and do not undergo the procedure.
Shenkar, who returned to Israel recently after working for the World Health Organization, said the research conducted in Kenya, Uganda and South Africa, found a "close" and "dramatic connection" between circumcision and a lack of AIDS.
He was speaking at a session of the committee to mark AIDS Awareness Day, with a focus on the chances of women catching the disease.
According to the Health Ministry, 1,165 women in Israel have either HIV or AIDS, 633 of them Ethiopian immigrants, 236 foreign workers and the remaining 296 Israelis. Some 3,000 people are known to the Health Ministry to have the virus, although 4,000 are believed to be infected.
Inbal Gur-Aryeh, an HIV carrier who has been appointed as a United Nations AIDS ambassador, said the number of women who have contracted the disease has increased 10 percent since 1996.
Health Ministry official Nira Besudo-Manor said that since the 1990s nearly 50% of all new cases are among women. She attributed the change to immigration from Ethiopia.
Sixteen percent of HIV carriers are native Israeli women who contracted the disease through heterosexual sex, Manor said.
Shenkar said a new survey of secular schools has found that the average age that youth start having sex is 14.5 for boys and 15 for girls. He said that among sexually active boys 32.1 percent reported having five or more partners.
Shenkar also warned that there is a risk of contracting HIV from oral sex, whereas the use of condoms during such sex is "next to zero." He said the female condom, which is not sold in Israel, is an effective means for women to protect themselves from AIDS and not have to depend on men.

Lee, I'm pretty sure that particular guy was not a cop either, altho who knows? I got a similar shakedown TWICE recently by uniformed cops. Don't think it coulda hurt to ask for his ID. There are a lot of plainclothes cops around there, but the first thing they do, every time I see them in operation, is flash the badge. Of course, anybody can buy a phony badge for $5... I have never seen anything remotely interesting in Tropa, so I stick to the AB/CC/Alley route, which seems pretty safe.

I think you were taken. What does this guy look like? Maybe a description can help others avoid getting ripped off too. Anyway, it is always better to "take care of things" at the station. Never give money to these guys. There are tourist guidebooks available at various locations that tell you how to deal with exactly this kind of stuff and what are infraction and with they cost. One is located just past all the yellow taxis as you enter into Mexico by foot. Once you jump into the $5 taxis, you past right by it as you pull out of the driveway. It will be on your righthand side. Another is on Revo and 1st street.
