Jackson,

This message began to appear early this morning when I click on photos:

Thank you again for the effort you've put into these forums. As a result I've been able to have life changing mongering experiences that would have been otherwise impossible.

BTW, is there a feature in this new version of vBulletin that can list my WSG Charity Benefactor status next to my posts like before?

Jackson,

Whatever happened to my ability to post photo attachments? I can't seem to do that anymore in this forum, and it does not matter which thread I try.

I get the following message:

What's the problem?

It works fine in the USA forum though.

Sorry to bother you with that. Thanks again for the Forum and your neverending patience,

Bide,

Another Senior PMed me regarding this problem and his solution worked. Had to disable my software firewall, and this is not something I plan to do just to look at some nook.

Jackson? Is this a feature or a bug?

Hi Guys,

My new server admininstrator has been very aggressive in identifying and blocking IP address from what appear to be websites that are hotlinking to the forum's photos and/or simple stealing them en masse. His efforts have greatly reduced the load on the Forum's server, but it's possible that in his efforts he has inadverently blocked some legitimate forum members.

I sent him and email with your IP addresses and asked him to look into it.

I'll get back to you as soon as I know something.

Thanks,

Jackson

greetings,

as i suspected, my server admin's efforts have been effective, as demonstrated by these numbers:

these are the number of times the forum server turned away visitors
because the server was overloaded:

past two months: 5,000 to 7,000 visitors turned away per day.

29 mar, tue 4593 / visitors turned away per day.
30 mar, wed 801
31 mar, thu 895
01 apr, fri 81
02 apr, sat 319
03 apr, sun 1164
04 apr, mon 537
05 apr, tue 88
06 apr, wed 4
07 apr, thu 1

obviously, these are impressive numbers, supported by a number of reports i have received from forum members commenting on the obvious increase in forum speed.

however...

in the effort to stop the hotlinkers, email harvesters, content thieves, page rippers and image thiefs, it does seem that a number of legitmate forum members are being blocked from uploading and/or viewing the forum's photos.

let me share what my server admin wrote to me:

could be users with browser extensions/plugins that prevent referrer headers from being sent, or the web browser from properly identifying itself. or an anonymizer proxy doing the same thing.

last friday or saturday, i added two simple mod_rewrite conditions to test for a valid referrer from the local site before allowing attachment access. it isn't very picky, accepting any referrer with

*************. info

as part of the url. a browser-id check accepts any text at all, but rejects the empty string that some robots and mass-download programs send.

those went in after i noticed server load spiking up above 80. 0 because of a few users doing constant image downloads, some apparently following links from another site ("fusker. lewww. com" was one), and others accessing the attachments directly without going through a forum page. apparently they had figured out a way to spoof a valid vbulletin session-id or cookie, tricking the board into allowing attachment access, so that test by itself wasn't stoping them.

using the raw ip instead of your domain name might cause trouble too, if anyone does that.

one or both mod_rewrite tests can be easily removed, if you'd like.my question is: if you were me, what would you do in this situation?

thanks,

jackson

Jackson writes: "In the effort to stop the hotlinkers, email harvesters, content thieves, page rippers and image thiefs, it,,,"

Jackson

First of all, your work and approach blow me away; you remain the most interesting aspect of this entire site. With regard to your five problem areas:

hotlinkers: they hotlink, I presume, for photos/porno.
email harvesters: have no emails on the site.
content thieves: you have to expect this but not much written content here is worth stealing. To become the premier site, you probably have to acknowledge competitors exist. I have very very occasionally gone into some other sites. Also, look at how your hits bounced back almost immediately when you came back on line with the new url. The BBC has no problems giving the urls of its sources/competitors where relevant. I don't think you have either. It does not make a lot of sense for the Banker to be a cheap clone of you. ******* is an exceptional case; I do not know of anyone anywhere else who has been so intimately involved with pushing one particular destination. You will not, in other words get many JimmyBrazils or JimmyThailands.
page rippers: Let them rip unless you want to engage in a never ending tech war. As long as you have something forbidden, people will try to steal it. I download software, movies, songs and other stuff I am interested in all the time but not from here as, beyond a passing glance, I am not interested in photos of women I will never meet.
image thiefs: get rid of the images or at least corral them. To take the Thai board as one example: the photo section has got more hits than all the other ones combined. I do not see how looking at low grade porno increases my knowledge of anything and this is reflected in the low number of posts I have in the photo section. Nor do I see how getting cruisers, not users, helps you. Why should you supply the service? Maybe let people into that email them to each other; this would also stop problems debate about whether the woman gave her permission to be an Internet celebrity. Or maybe even have another pay site with photos only.

Your other option is to charge a fee. I discussed this with Freeler (along Beach Road Pattaya). His opinion was that the primary suppliers of information, people like Freeler, would not supply that information if they had to pay for supplying it. And he gave me plenty of pertinent examples to back up his claim. He also made the valid point, one your predecessor subscribed to, that everyone's experiences are different. As an example, I recommended Moon to him. But he said he knew many such women. He also made the legitimate point that, again taking Pattaya as a good example, people move in different circles depending on where they stay and what they do. I am sure you see this all the time in BA, with people lkke Dickhead pursuing one market and others a different fishing ground. So, most reports have limited value and they are available right now to any cruiser.

That being so, most posts are irrelevant to most people. When I next go back to Bangkok, I know where I will sleep and where I will pick up sleeping partners. We are creatures of habit and most Bangkok reports hold nothing for me.

In summary: the choice is yours. Either charge and suffer the consequences of that, or trim your sails, especially wth regard to photos and keep it free.

Jackson, I know positively that my browser does not have any extensions or proxy that acts as an anonymizer, but I've been unable to view pictures where I am at the moment, which is on an unencrypted wireless network. I note, however, that I am able to view pics by disabling my firewall, which here is simply Microsoft's built-in one. So there appears to be some sort of hang-up right there as far as the scripts go.

A couple of suggestions:

1. First, say "screw it!" and simply dump the photo sections completely, which would purely and simply eliminate all these hassles and all the gyrations you're having to go through. I know they're something people really like, but they're frankly also putting you through a tremendous amount of trouble and expense, and the result has been a general degradation of accessability.

2. As I suggested earlier, go to a forced frames-based display, along with some robot-divertion, so that the specifics of the URL would remain hidden, unless gathered manually. I think this is a minor solution, but it's one that's easy to implement.

3. Finally, an old trick which I used on another type of discussion system -- generate and tack on to each URL a random number that is valid only as long as the user's session lasts. Each time the user returns a new number is generated. Scripts would need to verify this number each time in order for the page to be served up, and if the number wasn't there, the page would not appear and the user would be redirected to the log-in page. This would also probably prevent the content of pages from being grabbed by Google and such.

Kudos, as always, for your constant work and care for this system, which regardless of various bumps in the road, is simply the best of its kind.

Well I have an interesting corollary to the problems below. I am currently unable to post photos and get the identical permission messages mentioned earlier. However, I have no trouble viewing photos.

Referring back to Jackson's question about what he should do, I'm not certain I understand. Are you asking if you should dump those two mod_rewrite tests? I say yes, they aren't keeping out the image stealers like Fusker, but they may be keeping us out.

I don't think you're ever going to stop the image stealers, they are too damn clever. You're security has to be right all the time, they only have to be right once to get in. I don't relish the thought that the images I'm sharing with my friends here might be making someone else rich, but I'm sort of resigned to that. What can we do, this is the Internet, everybody steals everything. If the thieves include the URL as the page name or file name, then at least WSG gets a little advertising. The question then is: do you want to pay for extra server capacity just so there enough space for us and the robbers both.

On the question of keeping the photo galleries (are we really discussing that?) I've never seen Jackson's opinion of the value of the photo sections in general, but that subject really gets a lot of airplay around here. So many people seem to want to dump the photos altogether. Here's my humble opinion: I think we should keep them. Here's my case:

1. The photos have increased interest in the WSG site. I was here, if only as a lurker, back in the dark ages of this site when there were only these few little cheesy photos categorized by month. I remember spending a lot of time re-viewing those same tired set of photos. The thing that was so endlessly fascinating is the same thing that's fascinating now, these were real working girls at work in some exotic city. It's the same as reality TV except this is a hell of a lot more real.

This site has changed a lot since the old days, and there is no question that it has changed for the better. No question. Jackson nailed it. To drop the photos now would vastly diminish the site, throwing baby out with bathwater.

2. The photos are informative. If you monitor the photos in a certain country, eventually you get a good idea of what might be available there. OK, this is overstating slightly. But I think its also overstating to say this is a pure information site. I know I'm committing sacrilege here, but lets be honest, most of the written posts are meaningless memoirs of someone's glory trip to some or other city. Yes, specific information is given, I give it all the time, but the forum tends to be chat board stuff a lot of the time. Not that that is a bad thing!

Speaking for myself, I almost always post sufficient information with each photo to find that girl. I admit most people don't do that though. However, to say that we should dump the photos and get back to just giving written information misjudges the value of both.

3. We can't figure out how to post and retrieve a view a few thousand photos? Aw, come on now. We can play basketball on Titan, but the technology is too inscrutable to allow WSG to archive photos? Baloney. Hang in there, he'll get it right eventually.

Jackson: Cronin makes some valid points and he makes a strong coherent argument. His photo of the herpes infected Chinese pussy was, for me, the best and most useful photo ever posted here and it is one of the very few I kept.
Cronin: Jackson's view is, as far as I understand, he provides the photos as a service and he is not really into it himself. He did post some well taken ones himself but paid the ladies separately for them.
Cronin's argument really comes down to a simple one: can a filing/sorting system be arranged and is it worthwhile? He is right to say most of the posts leave a lot to be desired as, even when they have more general uses, they get outdated very quickly. I include my own posts there so I am not having a go at anyone.
A group of moderators would help to delete all the rubbish and repetive posts. You did have one, *******, for the Dominican Republic but that did not work out so well. Some system of deleting the crap would help. But if you again look at the Thai site and compare the number of hits the FAQs got to what Samus Aran got, we are back to the question of ranking what people want and need and how all that fits into your wants and needs. (The SA thread gets 500 times more hits).
It is difficult and somewhat silly to pursue this line without mentioning some of your "competitors". The Banker never really got going and his hottest topic seemed to be you; Stickman's Thai site also seems to be stuck in a warp and the whorist one is very localized.
You on the other hand must set your own parameters which you have already done with the Argentina board which probably has a higher quality level than the areas I hang out it. In the end , it is up to you. What do you want from this site? And why do you want it?

Jackson,

Forgive my lack of knowledge on this subject, but I noticed that one of your competitor's site has a security device for viewing pictures that requires you to keep your cursor stationary on a link in order to view a picture. If you move your cursor off of the link, the picture disappears and you cannot see it again until you reposition your cursor back on top of the link.

I know that there will ALWAYS be ways around every security attempt, but wouldn’t something like that at least slow down some of the culprits?

I've already admitted that I am not a computer guru, so if I am way off track here and this would not be of any aid to the problem, I apologize, but I still think that it is a good idea to keep people from downloading other people’s pictures from your site.

Good luck,

Cronin, just to clarify, I wasn't saying I was advocating dumping the photo sections. I was simply saying that was one option, as the overall health of the system, with all the connectivity problems, has taken a hit. I am among many who very much appreciate and admire your many contributions in that area, and hope the upload/download issues get solved soon, so I'm treated to more of your lovelies. Personally, I believe the idea of generating session-specific tokens or numbers which are tacked onto URLs would provide a solid long-term solution, though it would require some serious work on the scripts to implement.

You're working behind a firewall that send out blank refferal headers.

We've change the forum's photo directory to reject any call for the photos that has a blank refferal header, because by doing that we eliminated all the hot-linkers, photo thieves, page rippers, etc. Now, the forum IS NOT turning 6,000 visitors away every day because the server is too busy.

If I switch it back, then tomorrow 6,000 forum visitors will be unable to access the forum in any way.

If you were me, what would you do?

I am wondering if that now you have identified the problem, you could let us computer dunces in on how to solve the problem. Maybe a short report here for example.

That way you may reduce the amount of queries you get about about the same problem.

Alternatively one of our more computer literate forum members might like to take the time to let us in on how to fix the problem.

1. Tell the photo voyeurs to open the page and not the photo, then they can see the photos. So, type in name and number on top of the page. Then go to the photo and open it.
2. Then they have no need to write you again unless their service is interrupted again, in which case you will get lots of complaints and letters.
3. If I were you, I would probably do Laura.

I was able to post the first photo in several days (without getting that Forbidden message). I did it by changing to a different browser.

The firewall thing confused me because mine is off. Also saw another post about someone who turned off the firewall with no effect. Tried Netscape instead of Safari, and now it works. I had to reset the cookie manager in Netscape to accept any and all cookies from WSG. Good luck.

Jackson,

I understand your dilema. Though those out there who are legitimate and have the computer savy to bypass the system won't like me, I opt for being tighter with access.

I like the new numbers and the access has improved, so if tightening the rules will keep these numbers up, go for it.

The only change you've made recently that I am not sure about, is opening pictures in another window. I got used to using my extra mouse button, programmed for 'back' to go back to the previous page. However if this is helping turn away "the hotlinkers, email harvesters, content thieves, page rippers and image thie"ves I won't comment again.

Jackson,

I'll be the first to admit that I know very little about hosting a website so take this ONLY as a suggestion. I looked at Screwed Up's post number 375 in the the Columbia Photos, and it seems to have much to recommend it.

First, by doing what he did, he was able to post multiple photos with a single link on your site.

Second, since his album isn't on your site you "shouldn't" be the one getting hit by the hot-linkers, etc.

Third, it is a convienient system in that we can quickly scan through his album and peruse his offerings without tying up your bandwidth.

Finally, it would seem that it would save you significant storage space.

Now, I admit that I know less about running a website than I do about women. And that lack of knowledge about women has gotten me into beaucoup trouble through the years. So I'm not an expert in this area, or even very knowledgeable. But I'm sure someone could give you an opinion as to whether his system might be useable and/or helpful to our continuing fight to keep the hot-linkers, etc, from screwing up your servers.

Thanks as always for all you do for us.

But so far I've tried Firefox, IE and Netscape browsers and haven't been able to see attachments. I'm running WIndows XP (firewall off) and using a Linksys Wireless router attached to Earthlink DSL.

I was having the same problem regarding viewing photos but was able to fix it. What you have to do is removing HTTP port 80 on your internet security firewall. I am using Symantec Norton Internet Security and these are directions for people using Norton. Click on Norton Internet Security then click Options then click Norton Internet Security then Firewall then HTTP port lists and click on # 80 and remove it and then click OK. I also have a further question to any board member and that is how do you select the quote from another member and attach it while posting your own post.

One method is to click the "Quote" button at the lower right corner of his report and erase (backspace/delete) the parts you do not want included. That's what I did above.

Another method is Copy and Paste: John asked, "I also have a further question to any board member and that is how do you select the quote from another member and attach it while posting your own post." This is better when you only want to quote one sentence from a much larger report. BUT, please remember to add some symbols (" ", >>, something) to indicate that you are quoting someone else and be sure to attribute the quote from whom it originated.

If all else fails, simply retyping will work in a pinch. But then you may be tempted to correct spelling and/or grammar errors and you WILL get flamed :).

Thom

Ps. You can also put the HTML right in the post and have the quote where ever you want it.

Jackson

I totally appreciate your work and that dealing with those who steal content and the like is very important. Especially in the light that you've dealt so sucessfully with the previous difficulties in logging onto the site.

I've tired many of the suggestions made below by other forum members but am still unsucessful. IMHO in inclusion of photo's on this board together with the many field reports by the more experienced mongers has been really inspirational to newbies like myself who will, in the next couple of days head out myself on my own mongering trip.

I appreciate this may take some time to sort out.

Thank for your work

Thanks for the great information that you forwarded from the Brazil forum. I configured Norton Internet Security as suggested and I'm able to view pictures again.

I appreciate your great work with this forum.

You dont have permission to access/forum/attachment.php on this server.

What do i wrong.

thanks

Sky Dumont

You're working behind a firewall that send out blank refferal headers.

We've change the forum's photo directory to reject any call for the photos that has a blank refferal header, because by doing that we eliminated all the hot-linkers, photo thieves, page rippers, etc. Now, the forum IS NOT turning 6,000 visitors away every day because the server is too busy.

If I switch it back, then tomorrow 6,000 forum visitors will be unable to access the forum in any way.

If you were me, what would you do?

Thanks,

Jackson

Hi Jackson,

I am having the same problem with the ************* site. However, I can view photos fine on the USA site. I am operating with a proxy server type software because the ISP I have at home in the country I live in is blocking
access to both sites. If I don't use it I can't get WSG. I hope you come up with another solution to allow us in these circumstances to view the photos.

I haven´t had any problem with viewing pictures, however the system is not letting me post the pictures that I currently have which is kind of irritating I have desabled completely my norton protection and I have disabled my pop-up blocker. What can anybody recommend that I do in order to post pictures or is this just the current situation because I get the same message about port 80

Like DB321, I have plenty of pictures I want to post but get the same forbidden access message and therefore cannot post them.

I can view without problems. I can post pics on the USA forum. I'm a bit frustrated with the inability to post on WSG.

Hope there is a solution soon, kindly advise, thanks!

How To Fix The Photo Viewing Problem

--------------------------------------------------------------

Guys I have just followed the links to fix the photo viewing problems as some other member suggested on the board. This is probably becaues you are using Norton anti virus. Go click on Norton, then Firewall and then Http. Remove #80 and you should be good to go. I just did it myself and Its working fine.If you have any questions pm me

Hi Jackson,

I'm using an anonymous proxy service. I got the same forbidden message when trying to view photos. According to the description of your tech in your earlier post, it seems that either its IP is blocked or it is without a referrer. Is it possible that you can remove the restriction for anonymous proxy service?

Thanks.

DB321:

I installed a second browser, Opera 7.54, and am now using it to post pics without problems. You can download Opera from the internet. It is a cool browser, since it is not a target for viruses etc. and is very stable.

Set Opera to identify itself as Opera and not as IE6.

I understand what you are saying Dr. Skank however I don't believe that the best way to tackle this problem is to try something as radical as changing browsers, I any more members have any suggestion please post up.

I have not been able to figure out how to post photos so I've decided to create a photo album with public acces so people can view the photos I've posted and on every post I will link the post to my photo album and will say "photo #1 was the one I banged on etc. etc. ect.".
ex.

well hope that helps you all who like me can view photos but can't seem to be able to post them.

Well, I'm stumped for now. Appreciate what Jackson is doing - and I'd do the same thing.

But so far I've tried Firefox, IE and Netscape browsers and haven't been able to see attachments. I'm running WIndows XP (firewall off) and using a Linksys Wireless router attached to Earthlink DSL.

Going to keep trying, but it is frustrating. If anyone has any ideas, they would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.Hi guys,

First of all I want to say that I am very stupid in IT topics. As I wrote here before, I was having these problems too when I was trying to view the pictures, but now good news! I realized that I don’t have installed “Java”, then went to www.java.com and downloaded it (gratis) and NOW I enjoy viewing the nice pictures. If this help, please try but I repeat I am not sure if this Java was the reason of my problems, I can only tell you guys that now I have no problem and hope you too

I don't encounter any problems viewing the photos - right click the image link to open in a new browser window or tab [I use Firefox and no setting change required for Norton AV or the firewall]

What do I need to do to be able to view the photos on this great site of yours? The photos is the best part that we mongers can share on this forum.

I have been unable to view for almost 1 month and really like to resume to this privilage. I am not computer savvy, I have no firewall. help me.

Jackson,

Despite many problems before viewing all the pictures on the forum (except US forum), I have been able to view photos again since a couple of days ago. Don't know what changes you have made but appreciate the possibility to see photos again. Thanks for the forum and your work for it.

It's not elegant, but it'll work:

1. Create a Yahoo! group mirror site; any WSG member also becomes a member of the Yahoo site with upload access. (Yahoo! groups have an amazing amount of customizability.)

2. All pics are uploaded to the Yahoo site.

3. WSG pic references are by url to the Yahoo site's image's location.

Advantages:

-- Yahoo! endures all the bandwidth of the pics (and doesn't care, since it makes its money off banner advertising).

-- Non-WSG members (and "spiders" and "page-suckers") just browsing WSG won't see any pictures, just torn-document icons.

Hi all,

1st post, long time reader.

This might not work for everyone, it might not even be a real solution. But in my experience I've had times that I couldn't view the pages, I've tried and tried but nothing.

Then one time it hit me what I was doing wrong.

1. I logged in inside the threads. For example if you're inside a thread and try to post something and it asks you for your login & password. That was happening to me cause I usually clear my cookies as I'm sure some of you do.

2. I was loging in after I click on a picture and it asks for my login.

etc.

So here's what I did, clear all my cookies. Come back to the front page (index) of the site and login there. Then I would navigate to the the picture click on it and voila, Just worked, everytime!!

Maybe the problem isn't as complicated as it seems.

Sounds really simple I know, but it works for me :)

Jackson,

I'm no expert on computers, however, I use a Macintosh system 10 and I never get hackers or virus' etc, etc. BUT I don't run a server. Ask a Mac techie if that wouldn't solve some of your problems.

Also, I don't use Internet explorer for a browser, I use safari which is a mac browser or Mozzilla which works on either platform. Again no virus' or hackers.

Good luck you have a great site!

Hi Jackson,

When sorting the PG by forum name, there should be a choice of the galleries to be sorted, otherwise the is no way to find, more tha 1000 pages.

Any chance?

Hi Schulte,

I'm planning that in the next version of the Photo Gallery.

Thanks,

Any follow up on this? I would like to know how to jump to an arbitrary page in the gallery. My interface only allows me to jump 10 pages at a time. Is there a way to jump to page 200 for example? If there is a way, I am not seeing it on my interface. Thanks for providing these forums.

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that the view hit counter for the photo galleries stopped working after the most recent backend database crash?

Not a biggie, but it is kind of rewarding to see your photos getting ogled. :D

Please Jackson, could you clarify the photo guidelines ?

Revised Photo Guidelines (05-06-06)
I have revised the forum's photo posting guidelines to reflect the difficulties of policing the limitations on professional photographs and photos alledgely lifted from other websites. The revised policy is as follows:

1. Professional photos of escorts copied from escort websites will now be acceptable for posting in The Forum.

2. Except for escort photos, professional photos and photos copied from other websites are not permitted. However, suspect photos will not be investigated unless I am contacted by the original photographer or the webmaster directly.

If you suspect that another forum member is posting professional photos or photos copied from other websites, you are encouraged to challenge them in The Forum.

3. Given that The Forum has a perfectly functioning photo upload system, links to photos on other websites, including links to personal photo albums or escort websites, are not permitted. If you want to share your photos then please post them here.
I think members should post photos (taken by them or copied from escort websites) ONLY if they have actually met the girl. It should reduce the temptation of members like Vince Voyeur who posts 90% of photos of girls he has never met. See here :
http://www.internationalsexguide.info/forum/showthread.php?t=2613

Photos copied from dating sites (regular girls) are also prohibited ?
Thanks

Dear Jackson,

I'm back; a real member with a subscription. Simply; I'm looking for a way to view the photos (thumbnails) in the photo gallery by location (I.E. Tijuana or China). I've changed the sort order to location, but it takes forever to get to the 'T's or 'E's. I'd like to be able to jump pages or simply input the letter of the country I'm trying to view.

Is this doable? Glad to be back on the site. I'm looking forward to doing some 'reporting'.

Thanks,

Pixmxr

Greetings Pixmxr,

The software functions ase you see it.

There are no "hidden" sort and/or filtering functions that I'm keeping secret.

Whenever I try to view the pics organized "by forum, " I get this message: "The forum database is currently being backed up andshould return to normal service within 5 minutes. "

This has been going on for a couple of days. Is there a bug in the system? Thanks.

Suppose I have a browser tab with a photo that I like, say.

http://www.internationalsexguide.info/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=157492

How can I search and find the link to the thread that this photo is in?

Background: I lost or deleted the browser tab that the photo originally came from, but I would like to go back and see the rest of the photos in the same post.

Is there such a thing as a photo search, based on the photo filename or the attachment ID? Advanced search does not appear to have that option.

Hi Jackson,

I have tested with Google some of my pictures posted in this forum in these last ten years and have found them reproduced on several websites.

As example this is what I have found about a picture of mine, posted in 2006 (see attachment).

Is it legal to use third parties pictures downloaded from this forum?

How can I prevent all this?

Thank you Mr. Jackson.

How can I prevent all this?

.Hi Roman Guy.

You can prevent porno opportunists by watermarking your photos before posting them. On this website you will find free watermarking websites, it is quite an easy process or else you can use windows photo editor on your PC. Of the large number of photos I have uploaded none have to my knowledge been posted on porno sites.

By obscuring the face just a little also ensures the porno sharks will leave you photos alone.
