I'm great at beating a dead horse, so. My limited experience at MM is as follows. First, ditto JudgeSchmails. Except my experience was at MM.
I think the lesson for any person deciding to experience the MM should tape a picture of a biotch-arse-gringo-hotel-worker to the bodypart of choice as a reminder that shiot costs money and the people at the MM provide service far beyond the call of duty.
Fun sessions with Paisa into the wee hours and finding chips and drinks available. Life saver. Think it should be free. See picture taped to your Girl tours with Coach. Zero. Dang SOB went on out-of-town tour with the Italians the first weekend.
MM parties. Awesome. Those who pay attention hear the rules and potential costs. Not too many focused minds around though, but that aint never gonna be Greg's fault:)
Partying on the town with the original Aussie Greg. Absolutely crazy. Seeing the Coach hungover for 24ish hours. Absolutely priceless.

Yes I would still come, the real value of Medellin isn't in any be&be hotel, or overpriced hookers. The place creates its value becuase the dollars we earn goes very far, if used properly. Hope that settles the question or rude remark.

Yo this is the funniest thing that I have ever heard in my life. How does anyone expect to go to a party with booze and food and be mad when the bill comes. Its simple if you dont have the bread sit in the house with a blockbuster and some jiffypop. I have never stayed at the mansion, but damn when you are partying and having a good time why would you want someone else to pick up the bill??? Are we not men?? And at what hotel/bar/establishment have you ever been to where the booze and food were free?? This aint sandels in jamaca. You aint payin $400 a night. You pay the $400 a night that all inclusive places charge then i am sure the The Aussie would have noooooo problem with providing you with free booze and food.
I stayed at the Mansion when the Vikings had their now famous party there, and was asked for $20.00 for booze. The same night Greg also asked for $20.00usd OR 20,000COP, I can't remember which, to pay the mango girls. I didn't mind, I did not expect to drink for free, the Mansion has so many other free amenities that I was happy to pay. I also tiped the maids everytime they did my laundry, or changed rooms for me, but thats me not everyone did. I was overjoyed that I did not have to find a laundrymat and there was nothing that I asked of them they did not do. If you are going on vacation to Colombia don't be a total tightwad and worry where every penny goes it'll drive you crazy, on the other hand don't be stupid, be aware of how much your being charged as to not be overcharged.

I think Judgeschmails report was right on the nose about the type of service and atmospere you will find at either the Mansion or El Castillo. If it is your first trip and your Spanish is limited, they can not be beat! Trips to the local places are a nightly occurance and there are always the BBQ's on Sunday. I was just at both places for 5 days each and thought they were great. Castillo tends to be a bit quieter, but I liked that too. You will also meet a bunch of great guys to hang out with, which is a real plus if you are traveling solo. Just my 2 cents. Psyche

I´m still happy with the 97% sucsess rate we have with guests, I know we aint GOD (pretty bloody close though!!)

I may not agree or like Greg's comments sometimes, but that does not take away from the fact that the Mansion is a fun cool place to stay, and has excellent service. Some of you seem forget that the Mansion, Castillo, Vip etc. are businesses first and formost. Like all businesses they are in business to make money. All businesses expect to make a decent profit or why be in business in the first place. Why should someone in business in Colombia be any different.
Greg & Robert were footing the bill for alot and it was reported here, on this, and other like web sites.
IMHO They probably realised they could not stay in business if they were putting out so much money, so they cut way back, yet maintaining the same service. But since it was reported on here that Robert/Greg paid for this and paid for that, some went to Medellin expecting the same. When it did not happen they got upset

Re-read my post. You completely missed the point.
1. I didn't say anything about "not paying for entertainment." You completely made that up. I said the cost should be known in advance.
2. I can't gather any meaning from your sentence above, except that it has no relationship at all to what I did say.
I said the amount of the charge for the party should not be kept a secret. It should be known in advance. Then guys can make their own choice if it is worth it to them to attend or not.
I don't expect a free steak when I go to a restaurant. However, I do expect to see the price listed on the menu before I order.
Don't think for a minute that I have any problem with Greg. He treated me very well and I had a great time when I stayed with him. I did not receive any unexpected charges.
In fact, even though the cost of transportation had gone up, Greg honored the price that was in effect when I placed my request. Can't ask for more than that.
It is just that upon reading that some people were upset because they didn't expect to receive a bill, it seemed obvious that an easy way for Greg to eliminate any of this hassle is tell people in advance how much the cost will be. I would think it would make his life easier as no one could complain.
This is just a suggestion. He'll run his business as he sees fit.
But when there is any easy way to eliminate a complaint, it just makes sense. For example, there had been some complaints posted last year about the need for security, so Greg hired someone. Lots of guys appreciated it when he did that, and the comments turned back positive in that area.

I was looking at it from the chica's point of view. How many "regular" jobs pay that much per hour?? Certainly not mine once you factor in the travel hours, dislocation hours and the plain hard work!! 10 hours - usually on a comfortable matress, cushion, oven top or balcony railing - and $200,000cp ain't bad, for the girl!! I just came back from my trip to the Mansion. Most girls at the Mansion were asking between 100k and 150k per hour. Matter of fact usually mansion girls don't discuss the price at first and in general mansion girls are expected to get paid 150k for one hour.

Sure, you can pay $250 anywhere if you go to a clip joint like Elite. I warned people away from them on the Guatemala thread.
I never paid anywhere near that much, and never went hungry. My top price ever was $98 for two hours with a girl who I thought was a perfect ten. She was in high demand in Guate because she was a natural blonde from Eastern European, very rare there, of course. And she gave as good as she looked.

I believe that service "makes the place". I have been to Medellin several times and am returning soon. I have never stayed at the Mansion or VIP. I am totally into the hunt, and with 22 weeks of vacation a year, don't need pussy brought to me. Nor do I need to overpay as mongers on a three night vacation might. My comments on this board are normally geared toward helping mongers who are breaking into the scene. So yes, I think it is better for a beginner to stay at a place where alot of girls are hanging around rather than a place that has luxury suites. I stay for a week every year at the Biltmore in Arizona. This is where I go for luxury, to get pampered and recharge. I don't think in medellin, that many of us are visiting for "luxury".
I have visited the Mansion, and find the place to be of very high quality, a place very easy to mix with other mongers, learn a little spanish, and feel safe. Its also a great place to meet another monger to "ride shotgun" with you if you so desire. And your host their is one of the biggest mongers in the world himself. Greg personally hosted a party for me and my travel buddy while we were in Medellin and neither of us were guests, or have ever stayed there. If you read my posts here you can see that I have been riding Him as hard as I dare to help correct overpricing. Instead of telling me to Fuck off, he responded by doing his part. This is a good host, and a smart inkeeper. If I didn't speak the language and have 12+ years of mongering experience in almost every latin american country on the planet, I would be at the Mansion.
As you say, "to each his own". But if you ever read my posts you see that I call it the way I see it, never sugar coat it, and never worry about who will like or dislike it.
On a side note, I do want to thank everyone here who supplies me with valuable travel info. This board has been a great help to me, and I definitly take more than I give.

Gidday Gentlemen,
This is the Aussie on the road with a update before I return back to Medellin.
I´m in Riohacha at this moment, north east of Santa Marta.
First day,
Left Medellin at 10.30am and decided to take the longer road to Bucaramunga on the Medellin to Bogota autopista to the Rio Magdalena, around the Rio Magdalena its beautifull cattle country.
We did a left after the river and headed north along the river and then righ into Bucara, one night here (I know its not long enough but I´m on a recon mission for my tours) We had a nice meal at a carnie resturant and then headed over to a Strip Bar called Champain´s, I left the boys their and had a early night, they got home at 6.00am.
Day two,
Left ealry for the 539km trip to Santa Marta, got to SM at 7.30pm at night, one night here then drove to Riohacha.
My pick of the coastal towns in Colombia is Riohacha, its beautifull (must keep the trip to Cabo del la Vela to the next trip, carnt wait)
Day three,
Lazy day here, car service etc.
Day four,
Of back to Medellin via Barraquilla, Cartagena to Monteria (Monteria is where my security guard (Sandro, some of you have seen Sandro at Mango´s, the tall guy at the door entrance) father lives on his farm where we will stay for the last night.
Day five,
Back to Medellin.
SECURITY
Their are a lot of people having a say on what the security situation is here in Colombia, my advise is.
If you keep to the main autopista´s its not a problem, I should know, I have done it many times in the last three years.
There are many places I would not have driven say two years ago but now its safe.
All the people who say its not safe, I bet you all the money in China that they have only heard it from a Colombiam or somebody else who doent know anyhow.
I have had Colombian people say to me its isnt safe only to find out from the police/military that it is and I have driven that route and seen it for my self.
I have seen some of the most beautifull country in the world here in Colombia and during my driving have never had one bad experiance (only two flat tyres)
Ive got another Austyralian guy with me now, my son Henry, one of my girlfriends Monica and Sandro who was born here in Riohacha.

We know that you are trying to promote your tour business, but it's not in good conscience to imply that YOUR tours through out Colombia are 100% safe and that you know better than anyone else. Things can happen anywhere. Just because nothing serious has occured yet, does not mean it won't happen.
If you are so sure of your guest's safety, you should offer them a written personal liability policy insured by your personal assets. You know, don't just talk, put your money where your mouth is at.

No one, at this or any time in the future, can guarantee that traveling withinin or outside any Colombian city or anywhere in Colombia for that matter will be trouble free.
So what do you do? Stay at home until something bad happens there and you decide it's safer to travel abroad than to stay home? Well of course not.
Blanket statements of absolute safety should always be taken with a grain of salt and always should be expectant that there will an exception from time to time.
Danger in Colombia is as real as it is on any place on earth. Whether it be slipping on a bar of soap in the shower or getting caught in a drive by or getting mugged by a drug addict or being blown up by a car bomb.
All the above can result in severe injury or death even.
Getting back to the "I was so drunk" statement (which can also be substituted these days with "I was so high on extacy, coke, etc)" If you add alcohol and or drugs into the equation it can increase the risk of a bad experience.
Everything else just comes with living and letting live.

Now Colombia is off course safer than some years ago, before the new president. Anyway stay away from countryside if you are not a dum that like adrenalina sensations.
If you stay in Xartagena or the best barrios of the big citys securityu problems are maybe lower than in big usa cities. But if you drive in the poorest sides of the towns, or you go to drive in rural vilages you are not a inteligent man.
Maybe you are lucky, but of course stupid to go to country sides especialy if you are a gringo.

Just got back from driving around Colombia, what a trip.

That time Lina and a guest and also a Colombian Green Beret (retired, or the same thing in Colombian army, we in Australia call them SAS) were driving back from the shooting range when a guy who just stole something jumped half into the back window trying to get away from who ever was chasing him, anyway a log story short, he is half in the car for 6 blocks then he somehow falls out after some fast driving, thats was it, take it any way you want mate.

Our service is a private car with airconditioning, english speaking driver in Hector, he holds a sign up with your name on it and he finds you, hes a nice guy if you root for DIM ¨rojo¨ !!!! (the red Medellin football team)
Yes we are more expencive than a normal taxi, but our service is better to and most of our guests (95%) use our service, we havnt lost a man yet !!!!!!!!!!!!

(a) The airport is 1 hr from medellin mansion. Now this is not a critique to the MM but rather to the airport itself. MM is not in an isolated area but IS close to several activities and amenities that tourists need. Includes food and other things.
(b) The airport pickup guys get charged for parking.
(c) They have to wait for a while as international travelers pass customs, immigration, etc. Hence the airport pickup guys need to be compensated accordingly.
Hence, the airport pickup arranged by the MM seems to make sense.
