Gentlemen,
Just a few lines to say whats happening at The Mansion/El Castillo/ Penthouse y Cali Mansion.
MEDELLIN MANSION
What a line up of new girls at last Sunday´s pool party, the guests were very happy (I lost my camera last Friday night at Mango´s so dont have any pic´s) we had over 30 girls and about 15 of those were new chicky´s.
EL CASTILLO
Gaining quotes for the re-development of the pool area, also more rooms to be added, even maybe would you believe another story !!! stand by.
PENTHOUSE
Renovations are going well (poor nieghbours !!) with 3 all new bedrooms already finished, the computer/office area finished, new pool and heater and also a bigger jacuzzi for the roof top.
Where working on the kitchen now.

We have put in offers for 4 large houses but we keep being beaten to the gun by people with more money or with a better deal.
Medellin Bob is to blame !!!!! we will get there sooner or later.

Just got back from seven nights at the Mansion last week. It was my first time in Columbia, although I've been to Rio, Buenos Aires, Costa Rica, Ukraine, and Turkey. I will definately be back as soon as possible. The girls of Medellin are some of the best I've seen and the prices are very reasonable. The Mansion is located in a great area of the city and you could walk safely anytime of the day or night. It is only a few blocks from a nice mall, ATMs for cash, and restaurants. I had a few apprehensions about the safety of Columbia before my trip, but I felt safer in the Medellin than in Rio. Taxis are very inexpensive (although the traffic can get a little heavy during the day). The Mansion itself is a wonderful setup. I stayed in room 12 which had a huge hot tub which the girls loved, a king size bed, and a computer in the room. It also opened right to the pool, which was really nice for the Sunday barbeque. Girls were always just stopping by the Mansion or any of the staff could call them and arrange appointments. Although I did go to a few of the massage places like Luotron and Energy, I was lazy and met most of the girls at the Mansion. Also took two tours arranged by the staff and had a great time. As for the staff, they are fantastic. Aussie Greg, Lina (wow she's hot), Hector (English speaking taxi driver who works for the Mansion and was our tour guide one day as well as for the airport pickup and dropoff), the maids, the security guards at night, Boyd, Henry (Greg's son), the front desk staff, and everyone else associated with the Mansion were great. For anyone travelling to Medellin, I highly recommend staying at the Mansion.

I always try to add some useful information when posting. Here is a story that I experienced last night with a Colombian in south Florida. I’m posting it here since this seems to be the most active link to guys going to Colombia. I’m here visiting friends in South Florida before heading to Bogotá for 2 weeks.
Last night I was at a formal business type meeting of about 150 people with drinks and food. I was standing with my buddy drinking wine and talking to some hot 22 -26 year old American girls that work for my friend when a Latin girl caught my eye with a big smile. About 20 minutes later she came up to me and asked me if I would take her picture next to a statue. I did and that was that. Later we were listening to one of the speakers and the same Latin girl kept turning around and giving me more smiles. Finally she got up and walked right by my seat and stood off to the side. I got up and introduced myself and asked her where she was from. CALI!!!! Well that is what she said. Later I found out she was from Cartago. She said Cali because she thought I wasn’t familiar with Cartago. No more than 5 minutes into our conversation she started telling me she needed a sponsor to stay in our country. I couldn’t believe I was listening to this sales pitch from her. We were speaking in Spanish because her English was so limited. During her request I was thinking how many more guys are going to listen to this bull shit while she is here in Florida. Being the shameless shark I am I knew I could burn her worse and give her a taste of the ruthless competition we all experience in the states. I went along with it and acted as if I were interested in sponsoring her. I was asking her what I would get out of it while having my arm around her sipping a glass of wine. About an hour later she was holding my hand and we were off to her cousin’s house in Dania Florida. I hosed her down for a few hours and made it back to my buddy’s house before 2:00 this morning. How nice is it to have Latinas at our disposal? How smart was I to study Spanish every time I sat on the toilet for the last 7 years? What a great time I had with a girl I really didn’t like as a person. She was so pushy and direct about getting a sponsor that I just had to take advantage of the situation. On the way home I tossed the bar napkin with all her info out of my window while smiling from ear to ear.

Its nice to be back at the Mansion, actually the Castillo. Within 20 minutes of arriving, I was with Greg and a few lurkers on the way to Loutron. First time for me and what a classy place it is. Villas with nice seating areas where the girls come out and show their wares. Then one repairs to an even more intimate setting.
One of the great things about the Mansion/Castle is that you can fly in solo, and by the end of the day, there is a bunch of guys to hang with. Also, Greg and Robert run a very friendly place where you feel at home immediately.
They were talking about how there was a ruckus outside the Mansion recently and that the policia had to be called. Someone said that it was Kickboxer trying to get back in but the intruder was never found :)
For those that like to play tennis, there's a nice club up in the hills behind the MM called, 'Los Anedas'. I played there this morning. There's a $20K pesos guest fee; $5K peso for a ballboy who runs after the balls, just like the tourneys on tv; $18K court fee; and they will provide water for an additional $2K. Total: $45K ($22us). The taxi is about $6K each way. I haven't tried the courts around the Estadio where it is cheaper I'm told.
I think its Mangos tonight and the bullfights tomorrow. More later,

Its very comforting to read all the good comments about the Mansion y El Castillo, we are a team here from the maids to Lina our administrator.
You know what, we like to see happy people and when we see this, we know we are on a winner.
We try our best, thats all we can do, we are not perfect but we try.
With so many repeat guests who come back and stay with us, again, I think we are on a winner.
Sunday pool parties/barbies, BY POPULAR DEMAND OF GUESTS, we will be imposing a $20.00 conpolsary fee per guest who are staying here on a Saturday/Sunday night to meet the riasing cost of conducting the party.
This allows the guests to have a free day without running around purchasing food/drinks for the barbie.
The $20.00 covers to purchase of food, some drinks, the invirtation of girls, compertion prizers etc.
When you have around 50 people, it takes alot to organise.

Your barbecues are fun. I think these have grown into an event themselves. Now that I have a house there and no longer stay at the Castillo, I don't go to them when I am down there as they are typically for guests.
But they are fun. And I never mind throwing in a bit for that event. $20 is a nobrainer. It cost more to get into some nightclubs that aren't nearly the event these are.
I would consider staying there on the weekends just for the.
Despite what I read on here sometimes which I believe has a bias base, Greg has always looked out for me and my friends. He and Robert helped me get a house, and now the I am on my own in Medellin (anld loving it), I definately appreciate all that they did.
I couldn't be happier with my house. Now about the lack of hot water in Colombia.

Well, I'm half way home from Medellin so I thought I would make a post about my stay at the El Castillo. I just checked out this morning after spending 8 wonderful days there. The entire staff at both the Mansion and the El Castillo are outstanding. They treat you like you are one of their family members. It's more like being at home than in a hotel. The El Castillo is great if you're like me and looking for a place that's a little quieter and more laid back. The only negatives of the El Castillo for me were:
1) Wireless didn't work in my room so I had to work in the lobby.
2) No refrigerators in the room
3) Hard to contact the hotel after normal business hours.
None of these are major issues but are just my observations. I missed my flight from MIA to MDE on Friday night and I had 6 numbers for both the Mansion and the El Castillo. I was unable to contact anyone on any of the numbers that I had so Hector was sitting at the airport waiting for me when I was stuck in Miami. I also had a girl waiting for me and I couldn't let her know I wasn't going to be there. I don't like to waste people's time so I wasn't happy when I couldn't get a hold of anyone.
The list of things I LIKED about the El Castillo are far to numerous to list. I would have to say that it quickly became my favorite place to stay. I travel 120 days a year so that's saying something!
To everyone at the El Castillo and the Mansion, thanks for making this another great trip.

In May I plan to make my second visit to the lovely city of Medellin and the Mansion. I stayed there around last Halloween and Greg, the crew, and the Mansion are fantastic! Since I am looking at a 9 night stay I need to try and curb a few expenses. So rather than all 9 nights at the Mansion I was thinking about just staying at the Mansion on the weekends and El Castillo in between.
While I've heard good things in general about El Castillo, I've never heard any specifics about the rooms. Can anyone comment on the rooms, especially the cheaper $45-$55 per night rooms.
Greg, do rooms 3 and 4 at the Mansion have private bathrooms yet? Since I may be traveling with a wingman I might just go with those rooms anyway since I could handle sharing a bathroom with him.

All tolls are included in the price (which amount to about P300).
To get to Subic, the common charge is around P2000 which is fleecing the tourist badly (typical for AC which is renowned for exhorbitant transport fees eg. trikes for P50-100 for very short journeys). Some hotels have a free van pickup service if you are staying with them and I believe that Mo's Place can get you there for P400. Go to Mo's to ask for details (if you are reading this post much later than March 2007, the name might have changed as he has supposedly sold all of his AC businesses).
If you book a driver through your hotel you will be ripped off even more. An example is Orchid Inn charges P400 to drive you to Clark Airport!! Central Park is cheaper for a single person at P300, but they have the audacity to charge another P250 for each additional person. Simply outrageous.
A cheaper and more flexible option is to go to Avis Car Rental on Perimeter road and enquire about renting a car. They often have special deals running which can save you a bundle. If you have a current drivers licence from your home country that should be ok (as long as you dont break any traffic laws). Some tourists also have an international drivers licence which might help a little, but if the police have decided that it is your turn to 'make a donation' then there is very little that you can do about it. I have never had a problem driving a car or riding bikes in all parts of Asia, but perhaps I have been lucky with that. Avis also has a fleet of taxis and drivers which are available for any trip you need and their prices could be slightly less than what you can find through an agent. There service is also more professional as they are carrying the corporate image with them.

I would have to agree that VIP is very nicely done. Although it would be nice to have a few more doors installed so one could take a "SHIT" with a little privacy once in a while. Ford and I have never stayed at either, and I am quite confident we never will, but I would not hesitate to recommend either place from what I have seen of the two. Regarding your travels to Medellin, leave your worries to Lina and Alejandra at the Mansion and they will take care of you- reservations, guides, etc. There will be many fellows like you at the Mansion and El Castillo who will be trekking all over MDE including Mangos. Bogota is more complicated because I do not believe there are hotels like the MM, EC, and Club VIP.
You should be aware that in Bogota, generally the further north you go the safer the neighborhoods are- Medellin is the opposite with Poblado (southern barrio where the Mansion is) being one of the nicest and safest areas. In Bogota, I would stay in the Parque 93 area because of all of the restaurants and bars within walking distance- also, Andino, Zona Rosa, Zona T, and Santa Barbara (little further north) districts are cool. The "activity" areas are not in the safer districts so my advice is to never go alone especially without any Spanish.

Can't help with Bogota but can rcommend many places to stay in Cali. I have stayed at both hotels and apartments. Both options are good hopwever as a newbie to Cali I would recommend staying at the Cali Plaza. The owner is named Claude and is a great guy. The accomadations are very well appointed with options ranging from single rooms to one two and three bedroom suites. Look the place up online at Caliplaza(dot)com for all the info.
The nice thing I like about Cali Plaza is it sits just off of Ave Sexta at Calle 15. It's an ideal place to be based out of because you walk out the front and you are footsteps away from the party scene of Versailles. Lot's of P4P venues are close by as well.
The Cali Plaza does not charge a guest fee as well which is a big plus. The bigger hotels like the Intercontinental and the Dann Carlton do (well that is unless you're Ricker) lol!
The owner Claude will also give you a cell phone to use during your stay at no fee. Just buy the minutes (card) at any newstand.
Also: friend just returned from Cali and stayed at the love motel that's near the Clinica de Dr. Amor the Hotel Plaza Real, Av. 2N No 21N-99 and had alot of positives to say about the place as well as it being low priced.
There are many options as I said but again I recoomend the Cali Plaza for a Cali newbie.
I also can recommend 2 Colombian gents as translators/guides that are trustworthy. Both speak very good English and one even owns a brand new taxi. These observations are from a 55 y/o white male, semi-retired, not at all fluent in Spanish. I'm a very frequent traveler, have been to nearly 70 countries and spend on average about 150 nights away from home every year. About 100 of those nights are business related, the others are fun-related. This was my first trip to MDE, my second trip to Colombia.
Reservations were a breeze using e-mail. Lina did an excellent job of describing the rooms, making recommendations and closing the deal. My credit card was charged twice but since I was certain I would be there it really didn't matter. Lina caught the mistake also & told me and sent me copies of both charges. The credit card info was handled by e-mail which is definitely not recommended by the security concious but is rather typical of smaller facilities. Same procedure at the Sportsmens Lodge in San Jose. I have no complaints there.
I was offered a cutie to pick me up at the airport. I ultimately declined and only asked for the hotel driver (Hector). I had enough foresight to ask for contact info in case something went wrong on my arrival. It did. No Hector. Lina had apparently told him I had missed my flight. Nope, didn't happen. Two other guys were coming in later that night also, so I suspect somebody just got their wires crossed. No big deal. Took several phone calls, struggling between spanish & english & I was finally on my way about an hour after I exited the arrivals hall. The cost was $32 US and I gave Hector a $5 tip. I also gave the skycap who helped me a 10,000 COP tip.
The location is very good except for one problem (not their fault). There's a lot of road construction happening in the two block walk between the Mansion and the Oviedo Mall. A bit of a pain in the ass but certainly not a deal breaker. The Mansion is located about a block off the main highway so the road noise wasn't a real problem. I was in room 6, facing the front. There was, however, consruction happening directly across the street and that noise was bothersome at times. Again, not the Mansion's fault and not a real big deal.
The place to exchange money is in front of the Mall, a three block walk from the Mansion. Head out the front door of the Mansion, turn left to the first street then turn right downhill. Turn left at the next corner (the Banco Occidente will be on your left). Walk about a block and cross the street. Be carefull of traffic and mud. Pass the McDonalds on your right then enter into the front area of the Oviedo Mall. In the parking lot on the Ave Poblado side is a small cluster of shops in an outbuilding. Towards the end of that building you'll see a Bancolombia. Bring your original passport and no 100 dollar bills that start with "CB" or "CD" in the serial numbers. Go to the far left counter - you don't need to stand in the normal line. The first time will take about 15 minutes or so & you'll give your fingerprint twice and a copy of the passport. After that it's much quicker.
BTW - the mall is open on Sundays and there's plenty of places to eat there from cheapo to fairly nice. The supermercado is in the right rear as you enter from Pablado, on the lowest level. It's a good sized market with plenty of snacks, soft drinks, beer & hard liquor. Simply exit the supermercado, go up one floor, turn left & walk through the parking garage to the outside street (maybe 5o ft tops). You can catch a taxi back to the Mansion from there for just over 2000COP and you won't have to walk uphill. There are several ATMs about near the mall. If you're a CitiBank fan there's an ATM almost between the Mansion & the mall. When you get to the bottom of the hill at the Banco Occidente, instead of turning left, turn right. The CitiBank will be on the opposite side (the mall side) a few hundred feet down the block. Watch the traffic!
I had one of the more expensive rooms, if not the most expensive. The air conditioning was a wall unit in the living area of the suite. It was adequate. I suspect less expensive hotels don't have any A/C at all, based on the climate I experienced. There were several little things that needed maintenance, like the curtains on the balcony door & the curtains on the bedroom window. The bedroom probably used to be part balcony because you can see scupper holes behind the floor molding. The windows aren't adequately sealed & sky light is clearly visible. The bedroom window would not lock (but I didn't force it). None of these are significant issues - the room is on the 2nd floor & the insects did not seem to be a problem. Overall very acceptable quarters.
The bath room has a very nice two-person jacuzzi. Unfortunately the shower is on the far wall and you have to climb into the jacuzzi to shower. Not real unusual and not a big deal. Not recommended for the mobility impaired.
The room includes a PC with internet hookup. Not good for me because I also use the MS Office suite when I work as well as other programs. I just set up my laptop & moved their ethernet cable into my laptop and everything was fine. I would suspect if you only wanted basic internet connectivity their PC would be just fine. There was enough room on the little desk to move their PC over and give me enough room to work. There needs to be a work lamp also. Although the overhead, bare bulb was quite bright it cast a shadow on the work surface since the only light was behind your back as you work. Not a deal breaker, just an issue.
The staff at the Mansion was outstanding. Nothing but kudos there in my opinion. I was a little surprised that two out of three owners were never present and often the third owner was often out as well. But that's none of my business and since there were no issues that went unresolved I suppose it isn't a problem. However, at night after Lina's gone there appeared to be no one on staff that was available to solve problems (I seldom saw Boyd around the Mansion). In their defense, everyone is given a card with Aussie Greg & Medellin Bob's cellular numbers. They were both apparently out of the country when I was visiting.
When you arrive in your room there's a packet of info that's left for you. This includes the names and important info on several massage parlors, strip joints, shopping areas, supermarkets, restaurants and a few other points of interest. I would recommend the Mansion also put a copy of Scooby's list with the packet. I would also recommend a little map showing how to walk to the mall and where the supermarket is in the mall. This is a no-brainer once you do it once but a guest may be a little lost his first day. I was.
Also included in the packet are a list of "rules". In general I had no problem with these sometimes-stupid requirements (".....no...activity that is regarded as not normal by Aussie Greg or Medellin Bob..."). Give me a break! There's four full pages of rules. Quite frankly, I'm a little too old to be treated like a six year old. "As of this day I will not tolerate any of the above violations..."
Item N on page 5 of 6 particulary pissed me off: "Guests are on notice that this is not a Hotel, it is a private house that we have guests stay here at our pleasure and enjoyment....[sic]". Listen guys, I don't care if you're skirting the law in how you structure your business (or not), but if I'm paying nearly $100 US per night I consider this a hotel. It may be a Mom & Pop hotel, but it's still a hotel. As such wouldn't it make sense to include some basic amenities that I've come to expect when I travel? I spend more than 150 nights a year in hotels around the world. An ice machine would be nice (expected). A little bottle of shampoo or at least a shampoo dispenser would be nice. Remember, we're limited on liquids & gels when we travel by air. Those of us who travel frequently do NOT check luggage. How about a hand towel in the bath room? How about a glass so I can brush my teeth more easily? At least tell the maids not to take it away when I bring one up from the Kitchen.
Lina's a gem (and damned good looking) but what's the deal with a front desk at a hotel that can't exchange money (Remember owners - that's a profit center nearly every hotel takes advantage of)? The front desk isn't even capable of changing your pesos to smaller denominations for tips. This isn't Lina & Alexjandra's fault, it's the owners'.
Quite frankly there are several other "rules" that are clearly confrontational. Between my business and personal travel I spend more than $100,000 a year on travel expenses (excluding pussy). Thankfully most of that is reimbursed by my customers. I know how to travel even if I can't speak spanish well (an understatement). I expect to pay a fair price wherever I happen to go and I expect to be treated like the professional I am. If there's an issue - any issue - let's discuss it & resolve it. No biggie. But don't cover me with bullshit and treat me like a miscreant visiting your personal home when I'm paying probably well above market rates for a room.
Sunday comes & it's pool party day. Good; I was looking forward to that. We get hit up for 60,000 COP to cover the expenses. We get a bunch of gals in bikinis, BBQ and all the beer & rum we want. Seemed a little steep to me. Also, not sure what the deal would be if you decided to opt out. It is, after all, being held where you're staying. If it's mandatory why isn't the cost rolled into the cost of the room? Started about 3 PM. By 4 most all the girls were there. Seemed kinda slow, like a high school dance with the girls lined up on one side & the boys on the other side. Lots of photos taken. After a little while the mixing started, a little slow at first. I wound up with a cute & VERY passionate 23 y/o. After it was all over my attitude changed completely. Yes this cost much more than the local massage parlors or strip joints. And I can buy a lot of food & drink with $30 US down here. But the bottom line - it was fun, the gals were a blast and the afternoon sex was absolutely great. I gave Doris $150,000 COP when we were finished. We had never discussed price and she seemed very happy. Most of the other guys said they had done the same though Doug only gave his gal 80,000 COP, telling her he only wanted one hour, not three. Bottom line - glad I attended and worth the money. This was as close to the ambiance of the SL as the mansion got. It was different but it was good. Perhaps the best reason to return.
The next morning I discover the guys all got nice, tough steaks with bean soup and a few slices of tomato & onion. All the girls only got bean soup & half a hot dog, I had thought we were different, coming back downstairs so late. Nope. Seemed most of the gals left hungry. Considering the money brought in that just didn't seem right to me. Maybe that's why Doris asked if we could go to DINNER on Monday. A really good time turned into a bad feeling on my end.
More importantly I hear rumors about the ages of some of the gals at the party that makes me feel VERY uncomfortable. I have no way of knowing for sure, I can only hope Boyd did what was right. Review the pics from the pool party in the photo section and make up your own mind.
Bottom line: I suspect the Mansion is a very good choice for individuals who are outside their comfort zone for whatever reason. I would NOT recommend the airport pickup. I think you'd get into town more quickly by taxi and for about one fourth of the price. I would NOT, generally speaking, recommend the Mansion girls simply because they are priced well above market. Damned near every gal I met in MPs or strip joints was quick to give me her name and number. I'd also be willing to bet a bundle I could easily pick up local non-pro gals even with my very poor spanish, large girth and advanced years. Everytime I went out the gals seemed to make a lot of eye contact with me. On thre other hand, most of the Mansion girls are gorgeous and very anxious to please. Remember, the 150,000 COP you give them is about a week's wages for them.
I came here hoping for an ambiance similar to the Sportsmens Lodge in San Jose, Costa Rica. They have nearly the same number of rooms (24 I think) but the SL has a full service bar & kitchen, a full time bartender (Asta's a doll!), large screen TVs and a pool table, There's always activity there. It's just a fun place to visit. Consequently there are often local (gringo) guys that come to the bar just to hang out. The end result is a vibrant place that usually has 3 - 10 gals available (for less than here). I would suggest the MM owners visit the SL for a week and steal any ideas they can.
From my perspective I may or may not return to the Mansion. On my next trip I'll look into finding a chica-friendly full service hotel, perhaps in the Centro area or consider staying at VIP. Hopefully in a few years the Mansion will develop an ambiance like the SL in San Jose. In that case I'd come back here in a heartbeat. But only if the management ditched the inflammatory rules and treated me like a true customer. If you're a non-frequent traveler or outside your comfort zone then the Mansion may well be a good choice. The staff seem to genuinely care about your happiness. And, of course, spending a Sunday night at the Mansion has the benefit of the pool party. Another reason it might be a good choice: you have more money than me and therefore value-seeking is not necessarily important or you aren't irritated by the take-it-or-leave-it attitude reflected in the "rules" and you aren't irritated by the apparent disparate treatment of the gals. If I actually stay at the Mansion the next time it will have been for two reasons only - because of the staff and because of the pool party. That's about an 80/20 split. I would guess the success of the Mansion so far is due in a very large part to the great staff.
Please take this as it was intended - constructive. I'm sure there will be those who agree and those who disagree. Feel free to PM me for any issues or comments. My goal is not to start a flame war of any kind but rather to let others learn from my experiences so they can make a decision that's right for them.

Ford and I stay at a full service chica friendy hotel everytime we go for some of the same reasons, but I must say, every time we visit the Mansion we are greeted with respect. There are a lot of handling charges related to cash, in most Countries you don't get a very good exchange for exchanging cash, compared with a ATM.

The best ATM is Davienda (the only one I know that allows 500,000 pesos per transaction), there are at least 3 Davienda machines in Oveido, plus two on Av. El Poblado, just before the turning for Parque Lleras.

You will find a maximum that you can take out per transaction is 200,000 - 500,000 pesos, depending on the ATM network, most ATMs will allow you to do multiple transactions up to your limit, you will have to work out which ones work with which card, but there are plenty of ATMs to choose from.
The best ATM is Davienda (the only one I know that allows 500,000 pesos per transaction), there are at least 3 Davienda machines in Oveido, plus two on Av. El Poblado, just before the turning for Parque Lleras.

I wouldn't take any US dollars. Ok... maybe $50-100. But that is for food or whatever on layovers in the US. ATM is much better. Just make sure your bank knows you are going to Colombia and raise your ATM daily limit to $500 US (if it's not already that high) and you will be fine. Seems like you are way overbudgeted... but it's vacation and I dont know your spending habits. ATM is the best conversion even when you take into the consideration any fees the aTM or your bank may charge. You really get screwed when you exccange US dollars. ATM is the only way to go. I know it sounds odd... but it's 100% true.

Mangos is open Thursday-Saturday. Probably only worth 1 visit and I'd recommend taking a date. I actually prefer the clubs in Las Palmas a lot more. If you do go to Mangos... buy a bottle for 120k pesos or buy beers at 5k pesos a clip. By the way... in Colombia you can take the bottle home with you if you don't finish it.
Bottle of Ron Medellin at most clubs ranges from 50k-80k pesos.
Typically you will spend 5k pesos per beer for Colombian beer at clubs.... Pilsen/Club Colombia/Aguila are my favorites... Hard to find Aguila at most clubs in Medellin.
Screw the taxi idea from the airport... take the minishuttle to Hotel Nutibarra iin the center(it's as far as the shuttle goes so you will know where to get off)... it costs 5500 pesos and from there take a taxi to anywhere in Poblado for about 6k pesos. The minishuttle is right outside the door outside of baggage claim. Why spend 45k pesos on a taxi if it's not necessary? Plus you get the opportunity to see the REAL Medellin right off the bat.

I am bringing two cards... one limits to $400 a day the other is $1,000.... if I knew I would have access to each limit I would leave all the cash on the cards. Use 2 different cards for withdrawals, 500,000 pesos per day is no problem from Davienda Banks, Citibank allows 600,000 pesos per day, Bancolombia limits me to 400,000 from an account with Bank of America, You should have little problem staying at 500,000 per day even on a spending spree with the girls, but use youre credit card at Hotels and resturants and shops in the malls. Save the cash for taxis and the like ,, strip clubs, girls at the MPS, bars, etc. You get the idea, its cheaper with credit card purchases they skip the converson charges and you get up to date NYC rates. Look for the exchange rates before you buy pesos, they vary like the weather in Colombia. Good luck and take my advise on the 2 cards, 3 if you have them and remind youre bank you will be in Colombia on such and such dates.

The taxi fare from the airport is 45K. But I would not recommend that you just take the first cab. A friend of mine was kidnapped by a taxista coming in from the airport. Take the mini bus, call for a cab(444-0000 is one company), or use the mansion service.
You get much better rates from an ATM. Do not take US currency.
I was told it was 16,000 but opted for Hector anyway.....guess I'd just rather help somebody I know that's working their ass off to make a living. He charged 55K; I gave him 60K.

So if there is a type of liquor that you like for yourself buy it at duty free. Then buy the rum in Medellin. I prefer vodka and most of the girls don't. If you only offer them rum, then that is what they will drink. It's not like back home where they want some fu-fu drink.

However, I will have them send Hector with a young lady to keep me company on the ride back to the Mansion. That makes the trip more enjoyable. Don't risk kidnapping to save $10 in fare. The drive from airport to any place in Medellin is a good 30-45 minutes. Having a decent taxi and safe taxi driver is a must have.
Trust me on this. I used the MM arrangement and was happy I did after I made the trip. On the return to the airport I almost missed my plane as I overslept (actually slept for 45 min only after 4 hrs of over-sex). Fernando rushed me to the airport and saved me from a lot of trouble.
Need not use Hector's service but Fernando and other guys are available too.

That's the way it was run when Greg was in charge. He would break out the book and call up a girl for you, if there were none hanging out by the pool. It was up to YOU to cut a deal with the girl. regardless, prices are already way too high but hey if people pay them, then i guess why not? anyone that has been to colombia, oh more than twice, and pays over 120k pesos for a room needs to have their head examined. apart from the time of the feria de flores, the prices/room rates at both the mansion and castillo are competitive and comparative to those at many hotels in medellin. again keep in mind that, just like other hotels, there are different rates for the different rooms available at the mansion and castillo. in pesos, the rates at both places range from aprox. $96, 000 cop to aprox. 220, 000 cop. the lower rates include a basic comfortable room with private bath secure safe and cable tv and floor fans. the medium to higher priced rooms also include amenities such as stocked refrigerators/minibars, stereo systems, in room computers with high speed internet, 2 person to six person jacuzzis, mini living rooms with large comfortable sofas, chairs, loveseats. a huge plus anyone who has stayed at either place will positively testify is that both locations offer excellent beds. all the rooms were fitted with comfortable mattresses and box springs. not once have i ever had anyone have a complaint about the bedding. the sizes range from twin to queen to the ridiculously large king sized, orgy ready, beds in a couple of the rooms. every day the beds are made and the rooms/bathrooms cleaned and plenty of fresh towels and soap is provided. breakfast is included in any of the room rates as well. for those rooms without in room computers there are common areas with free use of computers/high speed internet as well as free calls to the usa or canada.
