ThanksYou may also mean Stor of Light in Patpong II as they open at 10 AM. However, bad luck right now SOL closed for remodelling and per other board may be changing format becoming open beer bar type. Won't know format until reopen. If they stay on timetable should reopen next week, but TIT, Thai time is not Western time.

I tested out this 3-day weekend plan of mine with great success. :-)

Well, I left Busan, Korea on Friday evening and returned on Tuesday morning straight to work. Tired but with a satisfied grin. I was still affected by LOS euphoria such that my productivity that day was virtually nil. ;-)

Friday: 5-hr direct flight allowed me to rest and get ready. The flight was delayed an hour, but I only had a carried-on, so I was able to breeze through immigration, money exchange, and taxi stand and was siping a cold one at Thermae within a hour of touchdown. It closed shortly at 2am, so I ended up on the hotel's steps like everyone else. The light rain kept the girls on the staircase longer, so I had longer time to check them out, especially their interaction with the other punters. The overall isn't that good. They must've gained weight from sitting all day. I was surprised to find a few mid to late 20's 8-9's in the traditional massage section. Bangkok braces for severe floods

BANGKOK: -- BMA sets up emergency centre, pumps and sandbags to tackle expected floodwaters. Authorities launched measures yesterday to assist Bangkok residents expected to be affected by severe flooding after tropical storm “Vicente” strikes today. The Bangkok Metropolitan Authority (BMA) has set up an emergency centre to tackle the impact of flooding. The centre will cooperate with three radio stations to keep people informed with the latest storm news.

In addition, five telephone hotlines will be available for anyone in need of assistance. These are 1644, 1677, 1137, 1555 and (02) 248 5115.

About 2,000 pumps have been set up to control flooding in the capital, as well as 1.7 million sandbags, which will be used to prevent water from the Chao Phya River overflowing into the capital, Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin announced.

Prime Minister’s Office Minister Newin Chidchob also declared yesterday special services for Bangkok drivers who run into trouble during the storm. A fleet of large forklift trucks will be on standby at 10 stations around the city ready to remove six- to 10-wheeled trucks that hit difficulty. There will also be 130 smaller forklifts available to remove or repair smaller vehicles, he said.

Drivers in trouble should call the 1376 hotline number.

The tropical storm is expected to hit Bangkok today and is expected to cause widespread flooding in the capital from , when the BMA’s centre will begin operations.

“Normally, rainfall in Bangok is less than 60 millimetres and we could drain that water within an hour. However, the continual rainfall we will face today is expected to cause flooding as high as 150mm, making it impossible to drain the water,” .

The problem might be more serious as most canals and swamp areas are already filled to brimming with water, he said.

Apart from Bangkok, the weather men yesterday warned nine provinces in the East and Northeast to expect to feel the brunt of the tropical storm: Nong Khai, Nakhon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaew, Chantaburi and Trat.

Fishermen in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand were also warned to expect strong winds for the next four days.

Meanwhile, residents in the provinces of Nakhon Sawan, Phichit and Chachoengsao yesterday were already facing serious flooding.

In Nakhon Sawan, about 500 banana farms in Chum Saeng district were hit by a 150cm-deep flood, forcing farmers to harvest their product early. Subsequently, they had to sell bananas at Bt2 per kilogram instead of the market price of Bt7.

In Phichit, continual rain has caused flooding in the districts of Sak Lek, Muang and Wangsai-phoon. Local villagers accused the provincial irrigation office of not opening the local dam’s water gate in time, causing the area to flood.

In Chachoengsao, flooded areas increased to affect 700 families yesterday. Water levels rapidly rose at the rate of 20cm per hour, creating concern that the local dam could break. Local radio stations broadcast a warning to residents to evacuate to higher ground. However, authorities denied at the end of the day that any danger had existed.

Despite flooding in other provinces, Phuket continues to suffer from drought. Deputy Interior Minister Somchai Sunthornvut visited the province yesterday and announced several measures to cope with the water shortage, including using water from old mine reservoirs and diverting water from Ratchaprapha Dam.

Local businessmen said they would invest Bt500 million to produce 10,000 cubic metres of freshwater per day from seawater. The project is expected to in the next six months.

Had been in BKK for a couple of days to hook up with a few forum members. Surprisingly all guys who live here had been to busy to show up - except Hamilton - who missed me because Poster gave him a wrong description of me, but we met later on.

You have to hunt like the rest of us. $100 a day is probably too much anyhow. Talk to a girl you like and then decide for yourself if that is someone you want to spend several days with.

Best looking FLs? Depends what you think is best looking. Again go on the prowl and see for yourself. FL places are Gulliver's Tavern (Soi 5), Beer Garden (Soi 7) - both daytime + early night places, Nana disco (after 11:30 PM - girls from above two places migrate here), CM2 Disco, etc. etc. Personally Gulliver's has better looking girls than Beer Garden. But that's IMO. Remember, hunting is half the fun.

A suggestion for finding info on these long threads: look for long/detailed reports. They have the most info you are looking for.

Hey Jackson,

No need to spend $100 a day. You should be able to get a real fox for $50 or less a day. Let's not spoil em now.

Plenty of freelancersin the disco at the Nana Hotel as well as around the lobby bar and parking lot at the Nana Hotel. Another good pick up spot is the bar in the basement of the Landmark hotel, about 1 block from the Nana Hotel. Always lots of free lancers at the Beer garden on Soi 7.

You will have no problem filling your order in BKK.

Most of us have got used to the bars shutting at 1am or 2am in Bangkok, but remember some of these places like to push the limits and you can still find yourself leaving a bar with the sun coming up.
I was in a soi noted for its wild west theme, A famous stamp was very welcoming along with the opposite to midday and that famous lady from Hong Kong. I've posted bar names before and it hasn't gone down very well, the laws that be and all, but the clues will get you there.
Also check out the "Red Indian" bar in the same area, the only bar with booths and table top pole dancing, upstairs gets better, you can pull a curtain around your booth for a little privacy :-)

Just an update on changes to Star of Light (blowjob bar in Patpong Soi 2). I was there in mid-August and it was just like always, 500 Baht for blowjob and cheap drinks. The door was still locked with the little buzzer outside for them to open up and let you in.

In the case of Yam Yasoton, it had both English and Thai subtitles as it has an Issan soundtrack. Foreign (US/UK) movies have an English soundtrack, with Thai subtitles. Some of the biggest foreign movies (Star Wars etcetera) can also be found with a Thai soundtrack.

A hot climate, yes, but the cinemas can be fucking freezing. They have very efficient air-con, which is just right when every seat is sold, but if the room is half-empty you would freeze in shorts and t-shirt.

The "honeymoon" seats provide blankets. I was joking about the fingering, but you can do what you like provided you keep it subtle.

just some quick impressions after a week here. i am not sure if maybe its the time of year but overall the quality of the women seems a notch down from last year in the world of freelancers and a lot less of them. i tend to hit nana disco at night and the biergarden in the day and asundry places in between while wandering about.

nana disco has been less crowded than usual (maybe the increase to 400 baht entrance fee?) but some nights seem much better than others. sunday was really weak for some reason -very few lookers in the place and it was the first night i just decided to turn in and try to sleep. other nights haven't been bad, but the overall average would only be about 5-6 with some 7's rep001tered about but no real hit you in the stomach lookers. that wasn't my experience last year where i was more than happy with the pickings. the parking lot is hitting hard times too - some real dregs there, same faces every night and most of the disco girls are breezing right by after the disco closes. i am not sure if the fact that the cops have shown up at 2am a couple of times - this sends the girls off to the 4 winds in an instant - has something to do with that. one night it was only 3 guys on a motorcycle but the girls seemed to know they were police and the place was quickly cleared out. guys are hawking after hours places that pique my interest but i hate doing anything if its fromone of these touts. you can still walk down sukhumit to find some honies but it is often so dark and they are so into their food that its a bit difficult to know how good looking they are and to get their attention. even so one night i came upon 2 cuties who happily went back for 1000 each.

I've spent the last couple of nights there and have to agree with you about the crowd and the quality of the girls. I also saw that incident where everyone started running, but I did not see any Cops even though someone gave me the same explanation as to why they were running.

Yikes!!, I'd forgotten about Mistress Midori's dungeon. Its interesting to know that its still around. Thursday morning headed to the Emporium as i need to book a ticket back to Hong Kong, there is a very good travel agent in there, TV Air on the third floor, got my ticket BKK-HK return business class on finn air only 11990 baht, they have economy from around 5700.

Basically as you come into the courtyard left left and go up two flights of stairs. Then move forward to your left until you get to another bar with another narrow flight of stairs which lead you up to the VIP room. In and around Ratchada are many late spots . The bigest one is is the sea food complex in front, the other side of the street from Hollywood and Dance fever Discos. I think the name is Paponkah? Guys, don't expect any P4P anywhere in RCA (except occassionally at Astra). It is however a great place to meet very hot young girls.

The worst venue is Astra, but it is actually the best place to meet a girl if you're not with Thai friends, or if you're a non-Thai-speaker. The Thai kids refer to it as "Tek-Falang" (The Farang Disco). Subsequently, some of the girls it attracts are either happy to chat with a Farang, or are in fact for sale.

RCA has changed a lot during the course of its history. When it opened in early 90's, this place was packed with babes from 13-14 yeras old up to 20's. I'd say 85% of it will depend on your attitude towards the MIB at the time and the mood they are in.
The LAW states foreigners MUST carry their original passport AT ALL TIMES. In the last 2 weeks every single bar in Cowboy has erected a sign by the door stating that all foreigners entering the premises MUST have their passports on them, and that it is a legal requirement.

That said, i know of people who carry photocopies and have been fine, i also know of some with photocopies that still had a night on the government :-(

The law is the law, and by not having it you should be prepared to stay calm, act respectfully towards the corrupt assholes spoiling your drunken fun, and perhaps be ready to spare a note or 2 to make things more relaxed.

I carry a copy of my pic page and my visa and entry stamp and my work permit. If you're long term, i've been told a very good way round this is to obtain a Thai driving license and then you don't even need a copy of your passport as this is a legal Thai ID. and no, not an international license, it must be Thai.

I'm sure there are a lot of other bro's on the board who have other stories and experiences surrounding this issue....

I've only had a couple of run ins with Thai police. The first time I was just walking down Suk minding my own business and moto cop pulled up and asked to see my passport, which I didn't have with me. He acted like not having the passport was a big deal and wrote down the name and address of my hotel before driving off without a bribe.
The second time I was sort of arrested for tossing a cigarette butt into the street without thinking about it. I had to pay a 1000 bht "fine," but they only cared about the "fine" and never even asked to see my passport.

I guess I was lucky, but I didn't really feel like it at the time. I told the two cops that I only had 300 baht with me, but they didn't buy that and told me that if I couldn't come up with the 1000 we could go to the station and the fine there would be 2000.
I found the extra 700 by looking around in my pockets, gave it to them and walked away feeling both lucky and ripped off at the same time.

I did it and I'm guilty, really I'm sort of stupid because I'd known about the fine for littering. I'm not the kind of person who goes around wantonly leaving a trail. My only defense is that it was a blindingly hot day and I'd just walked from soi 11 to Sanam Luang Park across from the Grand Palace and felt like I was about ready to pass out. The disposition of the cigarette butt was more a result of heat madness and eminent collapse than criminal intent.
I was so hot and tired that I actually welcomed the opportunity to sit down at the the little card table that the police had set up as a sort of pay station for litterers and spitters. While I was acting out my charade of not having 1000 baht the police had reeled in two or three other dazed looking farang offenders causing a line to form behind me.
The two cops at the card table spoke excellent english and actually seemed to be pretty nice guys compared to the motorcycle cop who apprehended me; he acted like I'd just desecrated the flag or something. Maybe in his mind I had.
Anyway, back to the point: they didn't care whether I had my passport with me or not.

I don't think so. I think they want a regular passport with the Thai visa stamp in it, or a Thai ID card. Although you have the smart chip in your card, the Thai police would have no way of reading it as their system is (or will be) different. Besides, if your ID is in English or Chinese, they won't know how to read it. I remember a few years back I got stopped in China while driving my friends car. The police officer (hot chick that she was) tried to look angry and asked for my license, I gave her my NY Driver's license and she held it upside down and started yelling at me. Luckily, a quick phone call to a police captain friend of mine and all was soon forgiven. But she didn't know how to even hold my license, much less read it. Same might hold true in Thailand. Carry your passport or a color copy of the photo page and visa/entry stamp page, just to be safe.

if you only in bkk for a short time, i would suggest his services. to start off early. if you are staying longer and adventourus you can explore bkk, which is easy to figure out. probably the most important question is how much should you pay for a st or lt with a girl. barfines and so on.

some of you had asked for the short cut directionfs from soi 8 ([CodeWord900] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord900)) to nana plaza on 4. it does not save huge amounts of time, really, but is better than doing the suk walk each day.

i think the easiest way for the first time is to start at [CodeWord900] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord900) and work your way backward.

so, instead of taking the usual right out of [CodeWord900] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord900) and a left on soi 8 to suk, go the other way and head left as you walk out of the door of [CodeWord900] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord900).

walk thru the hotel parking lot and straight down the soi. do not take the first right that beckons you. that would be suk soi 6. instead, go straight all the way down until the soi dead ends (past several condos and a few bars). take a right on soi 4, walk about 3-5 minutes, and there you are at nana plaza, never having had to walk on sukhumvit!

If you read through recent back issues of Stickman's Weekly (http://www.stickmanbangkok.com), you'll learn that the Thai police sometimes raid bars and not only subject all present to on-the-spot drug tests, but also demand that foreigners produce passports.

If you don't have your passport on you, you'll be taken down to the nearest lockup and held until someone with access to your apartment or hotel room can obtain the passport and furnish it to the police.

Not at all pleasant, and NOT a joke! If you're at all adverse to the thought of spending a single night in the cusody of the Thai police, then PLEASE, do not ever step out the door without your passport in hand/in pocket/on your person.

It's a very good rule of thumb, I think, for ANY country, WHENEVER you are outside your home country. Just wear a coat and carry your passport in your breast pocket. Leave photocopies and at least one other sound ID (for example, birth certificate) at home. That way you are ALWAYS able to establish your identity, citizenship, and visa status if unexpectedly challenged by the police when out and about, and ALWAYS set to apply for passport reissuance (via photocopies plus birth certificate) in the unlikely event that you should be rolled for all that you've got when out and about.

Conversely, in the unlikely event that your hotel room or apartment is burgled while you're out and about, you've still got your passport on you, and can easily make more photocopies of the relevant pages, while using the passport as ID for obtaining birth certificate copies.

Trust me, this is the only way to go.

I've been living overseas for nearly five years now, and ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, as a matter of absolute religious conviction, carry my passport in the left breast pocket of my suit coat. It just gives me so much more confidence, especially when a police car drives by, knowing that I can produce top-level, indisputable ID, visa and all, in half a second flat and without warning.

The very slight chance of theft or loss is something I deal with this way: I've hardwired into every part of my brain that I must treat my passport the way I do my right arm. I ALWAYS know where it it. There is literally not a moment of any day that I can't locate it in half a second flat. More often than not (except when sleeping), I can find it right against my heart. That's what your left breast pocket was made for!

Call me paranoid, but I'd just SO much rather be safe than sorry.

With this modus operandi down, I tune out any ID issues and just enjoy whatever I'm doing. The ounce of prevention pays great dividends in the peace of mind department.

There has been a recent discussion on the passport issue. I don't agree that you always have to have it with you in Thailand. I carry a laminated photocopy of mine and it has always been acceptable even when I was "arrested" for littering.
If the cops want to haul you in, they will, whether you have your passport with you or not.
I rarely wear a coat in Thailand so the breast pocket deal doesn't make any sense. Try walking around with your passport in your breast pocket during Sonkhran. What do you do with it at the beach? or at a massage?
I'm actually more worried about losing my passport than needing it for some sort of spot check, and keep it in my hotel safe.

SSIMHO, strongly disagree with his advice. A 'copy' of your passport is enough. Post 9/11, carrying your passport and then risk losing it, especially if you are American is a bummer.

I've lived and traveled in Asia for 35 years and I always have two copies with me, one in my carryon bad, another with my briefcase/workfiles; and of course copy with my secretary.

after a short trip to bkk, i'm back in nyc and still processing the experiences for future write-ups. most of what follows is based on an earlier visit to the biergarten at soi 7 that didn't get posted. however, i dropped by an afternoon last week, had a beer and chatted with a friendly australian for about half an hour. nothing of substance had really changed except it seemed busier this time earlier in the afternoon, and among the males, there seemed to be as many different nationalities as there were punters. no particular group dominated the scene, truly an international atmosphere. if anything, the girls were younger and prettier than before, but generally a solid 5 to 6.

the bar functions like a scaled-down p4p version of a wal-mart. it relies on self service and doesn't offer high-end products, but the everyday low prices can't be beat. there are no mamasans or bar fines and none of the blatant sexuality, pushy solicitation, loud music and rowdy drunkenness that mark a lot of go-go bars. unlike massage parlors or brothels, a punter can spend as much time as he wants browsing the aisles before he decides to buy. when he does find a girl that strikes his fancy, he simply smiles or nods and she comes right over. after some conversation, they either leave together or he moves on to another girl.

many guys find that an appealing setup, from the skid row decor and cheap beer in bottles to the direct negotiations with willing girls. it's sort of like baby bear's porridge in the story of goldilocks - not too hot, not too cold, but just right. average mongers, average girls, average bar, great location. put them together and what do you get? the biergarten on soi 7. it falls considerably short of the pinker pastures of bkk pussy paradise, but is nowhere near the dark caverns of p4p hell on soi 3. the biergarten runs right through pussy purgatory and a lot of punters seem content to explore its many tunnels.

i once asked a star provider at an upscale bangkok p4p establishment what she thought of the biergarten. "old man cheap charlie place," she instantly answered. a harsh judgment and not entirely unfair, although it would have been more accurate to say, "middle-aged man cheap charlie place." you'll encounter some gray beards as well as downy-cheeked youngsters still in their teens, but most of the male clientele falls in the 35-to-50-year range. there's no doubt that for many of the guys who frequent the biergarten, it' s really about pp4p - penny pinching for play. the biergarten could serve as the headquarters of the icc (international cheap charlies, pronounced "ick"). these connoisseurs of cut-rate **** are determined not to let their bangkok breaks break their banks. and there' s nothing terribly wrong with that. it's their money to spend or not spend as they choose the cheapos themselves suffer most from their excessive attention to dead presidents and live thai kings. through their reluctance to part with few hundred baht extra, they miss much of the joy and excitement available in los and settle for pale versions of the real thing. i' ve heard that someone once tried to open the ultimate cheap charlie joint in bkk-bring-your-own booze and inflatable love dolls instead of bar girls -but i dismiss that as an urban myth.

for my own tastes, there' s a bit too much of the "bah! humbug!" spirit at the biergarten. like ebenezer scrooge celebrating christmas with a bowl of gruel, morose cheap charlies sit hunched over their beers, worrying they've given a taxi driver or food vendor 20 baht too much. i don't know if visions of stunners ever dance through their heads, but they are determined no freelancer will get more than the absolute bottom rate.

however, there' s an enormous difference between what could be called thrifty charlies - who don't want to pay too much yet thoroughly understand how the game is played - and the truly cheap charlies who somehow find pride in taking advantage of desperately poor girls. the extreme cheapos fancy themselves great bargainers, wise in the ways of p4p and the world, but they're not really liked or respected by the girls. they have about as much street cred on the lower suk as vanilla ice does in the south bronx.

the biergarten is not my favorite spot in bangkok, nor is it one that i'd actively avoid. usually i've gone there in the company of friends who like the place much more than i do. a visit from february is a case in point. it was my last full day of a seven-day business trip to los. by 1.30 p.m., i'd finished everything work-related and was on the way with a colleague to the lower suk. i planned on stopping by the eden club but he preferred the less structured approach to p4p of the biergarten. i agreed to have a beer with him before i took the short walk to soi 7/1.

at 2.00 p.m., maybe 20 punters and twice as many girls had already gathered on site. only a few mongers were locked in conversation with girls. most of the guys were sitting alone, just sipping their beers. a quick glance around didn't inspire me to abandon my plans to visit the eden club, but my friend was already motioning over a girl, apparently someone he knew. her facial features were more korean than thai, with her hair cut in a punk-inspired style and dyed a reddish hue. she was thin - borderline anorexic - and dressed in drab clothes. i didn't consider her attractive.

as she sat down next to my friend, she smiled with the sad eyes that usually signal a starfish. he introduced us but i've forgotten her name. she spoke english quite well, if with a heavy accent. he asked her the standard "how are you?" questions, then about her campaign to find a sponsor. she wanted 40,000 a month to become a one-man girl, but with takers in short supply, she'd consider a "time-share" arrangement under which two guys pay 20,000 baht each. he pressed her for details and she tried to explain how it would work. it began to sound more like a clip-card approach - pay for nine sessions in advance and get the tenth for free - than joint-custody p4p and seemed about as workable a notion as building a perpetual motion machine. my friend had obviously heard this before, found the subject amusing and wanted to entertain me with it. that struck me as poor p4p manners. however oddball her ideas, the girl didn't deserve to be humiliated in front of another farang for the price of a drink. the more she talked, the more i struggled to follow what she was saying, and it wasn't all because of language difficulties. i began wondering if some of her non-sequitors might be the result of a pill or two to take the jagged edge off the p4p grind. i tried to see if her pupils were dilated, but that's always hard to tell with asian girls and i couldn't really decide.

anyway, the conversation was depressing me and i decided to split for the eden club. my friend asked me to return to the biergarten after my session so we could have dinner together. i agreed, more to maintain a collegial relationship than out of any desire to spend more time with him. on the way to soi 7/1, i attracted the attention of a tout for one of the indian tailor shops. "nice suit, boss. where you get made?" he asked, but i just sighed at the sikh on the suk. as usual, the 90-minute session at eden club rocked my universe. i was so taken with the lead heroine of my dynamic duo, the fabled gina, that i immediately booked a take-away session with her, beginning that night at 10.00 p.m. i worried my eyes might be bigger than my dick, but i was determined to maximize the sexual content of my remaining hours in los. besides, i've had a weakness for girls named gina since my high school days, when i met a lovely (and horny!) debutante from richmond with that name. throughout the years, i've fondly remembered her as va gina.

still basking in the afterglow of total satisfaction, i went back to the biergarten to meet up with my friend and have a beer to restore vital body fluids. the place had filled up considerably since mid-afternoon. almost all the seats at the bar as well as the side tables were occupied, with girls still outnumbering punters by two or three to one. i couldn't see my friend, so i went deeper into the bar in case he had changed position, as befits an experienced monger. it was sort of like walking down commercial avenue on chicago's south side back in the 1960's - you could hear six different languages spoken in half a block. not surprisingly for a place named biergarten, there was a heavy german presence and about equally many brits and aussies. there was also a sprinkling of non-german continental europeans, from italians to finns, but very few north americans. both the girls and the punters held around 5 on the conventional 1-to-10 scale. if you plotted the looks of the bar's males and females on a graph, you'd end up with a classic bell-shaped curve. a few examples were at either extreme of the curve and most were bunched up right around the mid-point.

i saw a couple of real cuties, but many more who wouldn't be winning any prizes for beauty unless in a contest arranged by a kennel club. a few were prime candidates for miss bangkok bow-wow 2005. nevertheless, one of the pug uglies had drawn considerable advantage from her looks. back in 2003, the bkk municipal government had offered a 100,000 baht reward for the best suggestion on how to make the city a more beautiful place to live. the biergarten pug won it by promising to move to pattaya.

the opposite side of the biergarten equation - the punters - were on the whole a nondescript group, although there were a few memorable exceptions. i thought i had spotted several u.s. celebrities, members of howard stern's whack pack, but not so. the gary the retard look-alike proved to be a member of an inbred appalachian tourist group and elephant boy turned out to be speaking norwegian. some of other guys had definitely been hit with the ugly stick, maybe even the whole tree. i couldn't decide if one guy looked more like homer simpson or yoda with clipped ears, it was pretty much a toss-up. there were also some eternally re-occurring beer bar types. a 90-pound weakling, the kind that always got sand kicked in his face at the beach in the old charles atlas advertisements, sat furiously scribbling in a notebook. he looked every inch a nerd - coke bottle glasses, coat-hanger arms and legs, a spiderman t-shirt, swimming trunks and flip-flops. i don't know if he was writing a letter to his mother or the program for a new video game, but he was oblivious to his surroundings. he could have just as easily been sitting in the topeka public library and i wondered if he realized he wasn't in kansas anymore. i imagined him clicking his heels together and saying, "there's no place like home! there's no place like home!"

at one end of the bar was a bigger loser - much, much bigger. this guy was about 5'8'' and must have tipped the scales at a minimum of 350 lbs. if i'd been at a beachside joint in phuket or pattaya, i'd have been tempted to shout, "free willy!" he had bristles on his chin that would have done a wart hog proud and the tufts of hair on his head looked like something a cat coughs up. he wore a sweaty sleeveless top that was too short, allowing his hairy belly to billow over the waistband of his 4x bermudas like the filling out of a jelly donut. his butt cheeks smothered the barstool, with saddlebags of fat hanging from the edges. he seemed a hopeless gutter-ball case; a tv makeover show that took him on would end up titled mission: impossible. i doubted even the least attractive girls at the biergarten would ascend that mountain of blubber without significant compensation for hazardous duty. then an ingenious thought struck me. if he put on a traditional middle eastern robe and walked into the grace hotel, he'd be the most appealing male specimen there. in the land of the mega-hideous, the merely repulsive man is king. it reminded me of a great scene from alice in wonderland, in which the duchess' baby turns into a pig and scampers off into the woods. alice commented that while the baby would have become a dreadfully ugly child, it made a rather handsome pig. of course, the biergarten beluga couldn't really reign in p4p hell, despite his comparative good looks. the other guys at the grace would skin him alive just to hear him scream, then sell the carcass to the japanese as whale meat.

i found a seat near the entrance and ordered a beer. the man beside me was spooky looking to the max. he had eyes that never seemed to blink and a haircut just like spike on buffy the vampire slayer. he was dressed in jet black clothes, with a long-sleeved shirt buttoned to the collar. i don't believe in vampires, but i'm convinced bkk has its fair share of serial killer wannabes. i pictured this guy saying, "good evening, clarice," perhaps with a german accent. even if he didn' t go as far as hannibal lector, he could easily be the type to put parakeets and hamsters in a blender for a small-animal smoothie. the p4p ocean is full of weirdos who present dangers for any provider, inside or outside los, but the waters at the biergarten appeared safer for trolling than most, despite a few off-putting types. the punters were almost exclusively western farangs, so at least the girls wouldn't be contaminated by the toxic sands of beaches from the middle east. a few yards away, a tall, handsome young fellow represented the opposite end of the biergarten appearance curve. he had tanned, movie star features and a very athletic physique. one of the most appealing girls in the bar, a perfect spinner, was glued to his side. he'd done well for himself, considering the general pool of talent. but if i'd had that kid's looks and body, i'd be somewhere else, making a play for the likes of paris hilton, not squandering my youth on p4p at the biergarten.

although the bar was full, the atmosphere was still very low-keyed. not much noise, no blatant drunks. some of the guys i'd noticed two hours earlier were still sitting in their original seats, silent and motionless. maybe they were seeking enlightenment by meditating on their chit glasses and had passed into a trance. i began pondering if they were the p4p equivalent of the predatory fish and insects which remain still for hours, then suddenly lash out when suitable prey moves into range. i imagined one of these patient punters swinging round on his stool, grabbing a girl by the arm and asking breathlessly, "will you take 500 baht short-time?" inside my head, i saw myself doing something outrageous to rattle the guys. maybe jumping on the bar and shouting through a bullhorn in the style of a 1960's campus protest, "girls of biergarten, unite! you have nothing to lose but your cheap charlies." or more in keeping with my personal style, yell that i was paying 5,000 baht s/t, just to see of any of the cheapos would faint. in fact, i did nothing but take a swig of beer. whatever fascination biergarten held for me was fast waning. i assumed my colleague had found a more entertaining way to spend the evening than dinner with me and i began to think about how i would wile away the hours until i met up with gina from eden club again. a quick bite to eat, then... to shop or to rest? that was the question.

i was leaning towards the shopping option when i noticed a girl who brought my focus back to p4p. she was in her early twenties and quite attractive, at least a 7, maybe an 8. great facial features (for a facial), good figure, nicely dressed in jeans and top. without much trouble i could imagine she was one of the often-mentioned-but-seldom-seen university student freelancers. she was standing with a few friends inside the entrance to the biergarten. all were above average in looks and didn't appear in a hurry to enter into the beer bar bargaining zone. i winked and smiled at her and she smiled back, so i motioned her over. she spent a few moments discussing the invitation with her friends, and they all turned to look me over. some giggling and grins in tg style, then my chosen cutie moved to join me. i realized i'd been caught up in the "kid in the candy store" syndrome. like an eight-year old with birthday money burning in his pocket, i wanted to buy more sweeties than i needed or could handle. i'd just had a two-girl session that had left me pumped out and i planned to meet one of those girls again in a few hours, yet now i'm thinking about an in-between adventure. my spirit was willing, but my flesh would definitely be weak, if not limp. with a lot of effort and a tablet of viagra, i might - and it was a big might - be able to do justice to the biergarten babe, but that would leave me with about as much energy for the all-nighter with gina as the winner of the boston marathon after he crosses the finishing line. i didn't want to rely too heavily on chemical sex-drive enhancers. jerking off won't make you go blind, but excessive use of viagra can, or so i'd heard.

i figured the only way out of my predicament would be to go for some kind of exotic oral variation, such as a hot-tea bj. just thinking about it brought a little life back to mr. skippy, but he wasn' t ready for straight-up bkk boom-boom. as the girl sidled up next to me, i asked her name. she had trouble understanding me and that dashed any illusions about her being a university student. after a few tries, she grasped what i was asking and told me her name was an. pronounced in the first tone, an means harmony in standard (putunghua) chinese; i had no idea if it had the same meaning in thai. i then asked her if she wanted a drink and that was easier to get across, since i gestured to my beer and the bartender with the same sweep of my hand. she nodded and ordered and the bartender brought her some fruit concoction. i didn' t want to dis miss harmony, but our conversation was going nowhere. how the hell could i negotiate a hot-tea bj if she had problems comprehending "what's your name?" she kept looking back at her friends and giggling, which was intriguing and unsettling at the same time. she definitely seemed new to the game, even if she wasn't a university part-timer.

a lot of guys prefer rookie nookie and that's understandable if you're out after a longer-term girlfriend experience, but didn' t bode well for what i hoped to get. out of curiosity and sheer momentum, i kept on going and asked her if she wanted to go back to my hotel with me. she asked "what hotel?" and i told her the landmark. i know it' s a major violation of cheap charlie bargaining strategy to reveal that you' re staying in a four- or five-star hotel before you agree to the price, but i don' t think many girls actually have a sliding scale based on the star rating of the punter' s hotel. they' re mostly concerned about the time it will take them to get to and from the hotel. it was then time to talk price. she had a hard time grasping "how much?" when she did understanding, she had an even harder time saying it, but with the help of pen and paper, i learned her price was 1,500 baht for s/t and l/t wasn' t an option- "no like," she said.

i' d pretty well decided nothing exciting was going to transpire between harmony and myself, but i wanted to find out if her repertoire included sucking as well as fucking. she didn' t understand "blow job," "suck," or "yum yum," and it would have been a bit much to start with sign language with half a dozen punters watching our interaction. i just let the matter drop. silence for awhile as she sipped her drink, then she asked me if i wanted her to "go back landmark." i shook my head "no." she looked peeved and if she' d possessed the vocabulary, she' d have probably asked me why. as it was, she shrugged and went back to her friends. i paid my tab and left. i had ventured very little and gained almost nothing, other than the knowledge that an attractive biergarten fler seemed confident she' d get 1,500 baht for s/t without oral.

the open-air restaurant on soi 7 directly across from the biergarten was doing a roaring trade and i figured i could do worse for dinner. a lot of punters were there with girls, but also a fair number of farang tourist couples and even a few asian family groups. i stood waiting for awhile for a waiter or waitress to notice me, but none did. just as i was about to leave, an older man -maybe the manager -said something in thai and motioned for me to wait. i don' t know what he said, but i assumed it was the equivalent of o.j. simpson' s last words to nicole, "your waiter will be with you soon." a waiter did indeed turn up and i had a tasty and cheap dinner. the raw oysters on the half-shell, thai style, sprinkled with lime, were especially good.

after i finished my meal, i went back to the biergarten one more time to see if my colleague had turned up. he hadn' t, but the place was indeed crowded by then. there was considerable traffic both in and out, with heavy competition for the cuter girls as they returned in hopes of a second or even third s/t session.. quick as a rat up a drain pipe, punters would approach the cuties as soon as they entered the bar. i didn' t notice an, but i didn' t stay more than a few minutes this time. my take-away with gina turned out to be an exceptionally memorable experience. smooth and sweet, she was like dipping into a beaker of warm honey, but that' s a story for another thread

a few hours after we fell asleep, the night took a big swing for the worse, i awoke with stomach cramps that kept me doubled over on the way to the bathroom. i am no stranger to food poisoning and figured that was what had hit me, probably from the oysters. i'll spare everyone the details, but the 30 minutes that followed were among the least appealing of life. projectile vomiting and diarrhea turned my digestive tract inside out. once my system was empty, i thought it would recover quickly, just as i had done many times in the past. i didn't want to disturb gina, so i lay down on the sofa in the sitting room (i had a suite). chills gripped me and i began to shiver uncontrollably. gina woke up at that point and the sight of me trembling like a leaf in a storm terrified her. she thought i was having convulsions. she immediately phoned down to front desk, screaming in both thai and english. she then rushed to me and, in tears, berated herself for not noticing i'd been sick. i tried to convince her it wasn't that bad, but i wasn't sure i believed it myself. i couldn't stop shivering and my stomach felt like i'd swallowed razor blades.

a couple of guys from hotel security quickly appeared in the room and they were spooked by the shivering as well. the senior guy wanted to call an ambulance, i guess he didn't fancy having a farang die on his watch. i absolutely refused that idea, but agreed a doctor should be summoned. i spent the 45 minutes until he arrived alternately sweating and shivering. gina and the two security guys hovered over me the whole time, asking if i was ok every time i closed my eyes. the doctor was very good. he diagnosed me with acute food poisoning and severe dehydration. the shivering and sweating were a result of fever. in a luxury version of m*a*s*h, the doc strapped my hand to the tv remote for the intravenous antibiotics and hung the infusion bag from the bedside lamp. he left me with a half dozen different kinds of pills, including valium to help me sleep. feeling no pain, i dozed off around 6.00 a.m. i woke up around 4 p.m. and was in good enough shape to make my flight back to the states without too much discomfort. it took a few more days for me to recover entirely. i learned a couple of important lessons from the whole episode: 1) don't eat raw oysters in bangkok; and 2) if you're going to get sick, make sure you're staying in a five-star hotel and are with a girl from the eden club. i'm sure an off-the-rack freelancer wouldn't have handled the situation nearly as well.

and the biergarten at soi 7? in short, it's to p4p like ronald reagan was to american politics - not as good as his supporters hoped he'd be, not as bad as his detractors feared he'd be. my overall impression was reinforced by my experiences that day [and by the short visit oct. 20]. it' s not a bad place, but not a great one. if you have any expectations of pulling one of the nicer looking girls, then you have to pounce quickly or invest considerable time in waiting. if you' re content with (or turned on by) a woman who' s less attractive, you' ll have plenty of choice. at the biergarten, you' ll forego the sublimest pleasures of bkk pussy paradise as well as avoiding the horrors of p4p hell. i've never had a really satisfactory session that originated at the biergarten, but that' s what purgatory is all about - staying out of hell, hoping for heaven.

I completely agree with Duniawala's assessment of the passport discussion. I always carry a photocopy and leave my passport in the hotel safe. If you are American, British or Western European you stand a much greater chance of losing your passport to theives. You will be in much deeper doodoo if that happens than if stopped by a crooked cop with his hand out for a bribe.

If you arrive at 10:45pm you'll probably be in your room by 11:30pm or so assuming that you don't have bad luck with the passport line or checked bags. Just get in a cab and go to Nana Plaza or the like and pick one out.
If you don't feel like doing that tell the bell hop that you're looking for a good looking Massage Lady to come to your room.

Based on personal experience, if are a US citizen, you are much better off to NOT carry the passport around. A photocopy is ok. If you lose the passport, you might end up on the terrorist watchlist as that passport can be used illegally. (However, note that technically you are not even supposed to photocopy it.)

Once I could not find my passport and called the US Embassy saying it was lost. In a nutshell, I was told I better find it or the replacement passport would take some time while they conducted a thorough check. I was told by a friend of mine that the above mentioned was the reason. Luckily for me I found my passport next day and called back to the Embassy to let them know.FYI, US Embassy is 'obligated' to give you a replacement passport in 24 hours in case you lose yours. Don't waste your time with a local hire (usually filipino that speaks good English), ask to speak to a real Yank consular officer. Take it from me, Chinese-american but in the states for 50 yrs. My wife is from Taiwan, has an accent and even though 25 yrs a citizen, basically got 3rd class treatment until I came back the next day and basically raised hell with a consular officer.

I was relieved that none of the descriptions of the mongers fit me! I agree with your assessment of BG - it could be a lot worse and it could be a lot better. On the other hand, lot of the BG girls usually make the rounds depending on the time of the day and the action in BG: Gullivers, Nana Disco, CM2, etc. And if you pick up a BG girl in CM2, you'll just end up paying more. Girls in Gullivers SEEM a bit better, but I think it is more about their way of dressing and the surroundings. As you described, BG is a dump and makes some girls look worse than they really are. The main difference to me between Eden girls and BG girls is that with the former, you are guaranteed a certain level of performance.

I love to hang out in BG - just to people watch and have had some pretty good sessions. When I was there in July, it seemed to me that the talent was a lot better than the years before. Lot of younger ones and plenty better looking ones too.

On a ridiculously short 48 hour first visit to BKK - not much time to explore I know but what the hell how can you fail armed with a explicit WSG (oops sorry... ISG) dossier under each arm!

Arrived Monday afternoon and hot footed it to Sukhumwit for a cruise round. Checked out Soi Cowboy but it was far too early in the evening so settled for a cool beer on the sidewalk. Well, the Wat Pho Buddha was big that’s for sure. Excellent. I am glad you truly enjoyed yourself. This is what LOS is all about. I'll confess like a member of AA to liking the BG - I often say I will never go back but I always do. Its more a state of mind than anything. There are times I go there and I have the patience of a ADD child and am out of there in ten minutes if I don't almost immediately see something I like a lot. Not a bad thing but I like a little more room for something different happening - even if its not something good.

Go go bars aren't any better for me - what could be less intriguing than having a mamasan send you a girl by her number - its so dehumanizing - give the girl a name on her tag - even if its Noi 25 to differentiate her from the other 24 Noi's - but this is in some ways even worse than a massage parlor because its just as expensive, the girls have no sense of service for money and the lack of predictabiity is almost always negative. And at least for me the Beergarden is the best place for freelancers during the day and the Nana Disco at night - though I am always interested in better venues - just haven't found them yet after being disappointed by CM2 and seeing the Thermae and the Grace go so downhill over the past few years. The BG is especially good for networking - you see who the various cliques are - and you begin devising various scenarios - ok you two today - then you and that other girl you were talking to tomorrow. On this last trip in September I pretty much went thru the entire group of the young cuties who hang out near the front in various permutations - its what dreams are made of.

The biggest problem that I, as a newcomer to BKK, see, is that there are so many options it is hard to decide where to go and what to do. I feel like a kid in a candy store. But after extensive research, and after talking with several people, I am much better equipped to make my decisions. There is a delicate balance between the old-hands and the new ones; one wants to help but it is easier to teach someone how to fish then to hand them one. Far be it from me to comment on the craziness of the past 24 hours, but after reading some of Tony's questions I can see why people got angry at him. The one that even got me was when he asked whether the King's birthday would be celebrated on Dec 5th next year. Aside from the obvious redundancy of the question, why he would worry about 2006 is beyond me. But I'm not here to pass judgement on anyone else. I'm just trying to narow down my choices. You can get a lot done in 10 hours, depending on when you arrive and when your flight departs.

For instance, if you arrive in late evening, still plenty of time to hit Nana (after 10 or so, it's literally 30 minutes from airport via taxi, about B$200, tell them to take the highway), get some drinks, get LT (or couple of ST -- if you're young and strong!) and hotel nearby, then off the next morning for airport.

If you want MP, last call is usually 11 pm, but less girls usually at that time and they are tired after long shift!

Edens Club is good 2 hr option although I've never been there and got mixed reports (search Edens Club for details).

Or if your budget permits, hire a driver and tour guide at airport (this assumes you arrive during daytime) for 6 hours, see some sights, visit MP for couple of hours and then back to catch your flight...plus you won't have to worry about showering :-)

And if you got lots of bucks, get escort service (they can pick you up at airport, get your room and girl, etc.

If your stopover is 10 hours flat from arrival time till departure time, between immigration, luggage pickup, customs, left luggage room, then check-in etc. ,it does not leave you with much time indeed.

I would suggest hopping on a cab to Ratchadapisek and have one or two seesions at one or the other of the big massage parlors there (Poseidon, Caesar etc.). Ratchadapisek is north of the city, I.e. more or less between the centre and the airport.

Just go to Patpong and walk down the street. Touts with "menus" will approach you at as you pass the bars. I don't think any one of them really stands out as being a lot better than the other ones. My experience is that none of them are really rip offs, they're just sort of sleazy almost by definition, but that's what you're there for..right?

I've taken visitors to Super Queen on Patpong 2, upstairs, next to Roma Cafe a few times and its always been pretty good as far as these shows go. Usually the girls aren't very good looking and look like they'd obviously be doing something else. I don't think the dart, razor, and ping pong ball thing is every girl's dream job, but they are very talented. They have shows upstairs at King's Castle and Pink Panther too.

On my last trip to LOS, I remembered that there were special shows at Susie Wong and Long Gun on Soi Cowboy. I didn't stay long enough to see all (distracted by free roaming pooyings), but I think, at Susie, they only have lingerie/fashion walk/dance.
