Not totally wrong, but according to my experience pinays are after our money too (which is IMHO perfectly fine as long as their service is ok)! Or am I wrong?

Sometimes there's way too much tendency here to generalize and stereotype. Thailand, Philippines . . . lots of girls, lots of different situations. But yes, the same basic motivations.

Both have great girls... I have my preference, but if I have to pick 2 spots in asia to work and hang out its the PI and Thailand... Still haven't hit Vietnam and kind of curious.....

I understand that adventure is ths spice of life but when its your first time in Manila and AC is a nice ride in a taxi away with some beers on the way for a measly $50 US that you can make up being a cheap charlie in AC, why mess around. I enjoy the adventure, but when I fly into Manila I want to be in AC as FAST AS POSSIBLE. And not fucking around with taxi's, buses, and Trikes with my bags... Arange it with whatever hotel you book and they will be waiting and more then helpful and coool. Just my advice, and you will be back and can navigate better with more knowledge next time,,, Take that trip back from AC and see how that goes.....

I'm just about winding up my fourth trip to Angeles. Some observations:
- The taxi situation at the airport has improved! In the past, as you exit the terminal, there would be a mad chaotic rush of taxi people soliciting you for rides. Now, passengers get into orderly lines. Definitely much more civilized.
- The new Forbidden City bar sucks. I much prefer smaller Fields bars and Perimeter bars as they're more intimate and friendly. I hope these Walmart of bars won't eventually drive away smaller bars on Fields.
- I've begun to find some of the waitresses to be better looking than most of the dancers. I think being a waitress is a better job than being a dancer. No standing up there doing some stupid dance. And because waitresses interact with customers, they have a better chance of being bought drinks and being bar-fined. Not to mention, they collect tips or extra money from customers telling them to "keep the change".
- There are now tons of trans-sexual activity near Blow Row. Although that stuff doesn't offend me, the folks there sometimes make cat calls and comments to passerbys. Those comments kinda grosses me out.
- There are less random people sitting next to you trying to get you to buy drinks. In the past, I'd be minding my own business in a bar and some girl (not a waitress) suddenly sits next to me and starts talking. Often, they're so bold as to say "so, are you gonna buy me a drink?". I'm glad this kind of activity has decreased.
- One annoyance are street vendors walking into bars trying to sell snacks, condoms and roses. Nothing is more annoying than you trying to make rapport with a girl and some vendor hovers over you with a box of peanuts and won't go away.

Some of the ladies who barfine on P Burgos street in Makati may discuss it with you before leaving. A few will insist upon it. If not, then any tip is up to you. Some men tip. Some men never tip. Many men tip based on the degree or quality of service provided.
The danger of the tip is that it creates an expectation (mandatory quality) for some girls. "Last man tip me p1000. You give me tip." If you read thru the forums, you will see reports where some men tip and some don't. Its rare in filipines for girls to actually ask for it. However on my last trip in AC two different girls asked for a tip. I give every girl p100-200 for taxi the next day. Its more than enough to get them home on the jeepney. I don't believe in tipping.

It depends where you are from.
Philippine culture is not a tipping culture. However, the girls know that people from other cultures do tip, and they work on that.
They know that people from the US, Korea and Japan almost always tip, so if you are from those cultures you are expected to tip.
They know that people from Australia and New Zealand for example do not tip, and so they don't expect much of a tip if anything.
So if you tip in your home country, then the girls will know that and expect you to tip accordingly.
In AC, a tip is not compulsory.
Having said that, if you feel that the girl gave good service, or you want to keep her a bit longer, then a tip can help.
I normally tip enough for a trike fare - about 100 Piso. If I see a lady for a week, I normally also buy her a dress or two in the markets near the Swiss Chalet. Dressing them up and then undressing them in their new clothes is fun too.
However, others tip 500 Piso or more. I have never had any problems tipping less than that in AC.
The other thing is that if you are going to ask the girls to do something really "different" sometimes it is good to ask up front, and offer a tip if what you ask for is "challenging" for them.

It seems I draw a conclusion ahead of time. Some hours later afternoon at work my phone rang and they called to ask if I had noticed the email about cancelletation and if I wanted fly to Clark on Tuesday or Saturday instead of Thursday. They are going to discontinue Thursday flights.

Keeping the tip topic alive. The previous responses go from no tip to cover a thank you 100 peso and you did a great services to 200-300 pesos. Is there a guide for the short time places on Santos? I have gave nothing to 100 if the time was above average and 40mins to an hour. Short time in the location small room, cold rinse, and general action. Thanks have fun.
I was there today and paid 350 extra to get into one of the nicer rooms for 2 hours. I've asked a few of the girls how much most customers tip and they both told me 100 is what the majority tip and they are fine with that. Though each has the occasional generous customer who will tip 1000 to 2000 or even buy them expensive gifts etc.
I've been here for 6 weeks now and ask almost every girl about her experiences. Tipping is not mandatory but all girls expect it as its the norm here. In the big clubs on the East end of fields like Atlantis the popular girls have come to expect 1000 to 2000 peso tips for long time because that is what most Korean and Japanese customers are giving them and most of the visitors to that end year round are Korean and Japanese. Most girls will stand around waiting for you to walk them out unless you give them a tip. When customers don't tip most are just disappointed and won't say anything so you don't even notice that they are upset. However a few will express their disappointment, from "I wish you had picked a different girl" to "Fuck you!. "
The popular girls will not see a customer again if they were not happy with his tip. But I guess most guys arent looking to go get the same girl twice anyway.
Anyways this just applies to the girls who will get asked to barfine several times per night every night if they choose to stay there the whole shift.
I can't comment on what the less popular girls expect.
I do know even the popular girls I've barfined in the bars in the center of fields like Cherry's/stampede, pony tails, Dr. Holms, eruptions, and then all the clubs on the West end of fields have lower expectations and rather than expecting that 1-2k tip they feel lucky when they get it. They don't hold it against you if you tip less. (I tip less)

A short time on santos, get her a LD after wards if you had fun, but no tip requiered on santos. A short time in the hotel I give money for a ride home. Had a short time I had to kick out of the room after two rounds and she was trying for number three and gave her 200P, but she earned it.

Wonderful time in the room. No taxi tip needed as I walked them 2 blocks back there. They offered themselves for another session the next day; that's how mad they were over no tip.

Most will do it for P50 or P100, and it saves all kind of time and frustration.

I was able to negotiate for alternative routing with emails. I did not want to take a risk being three extra days in Bangkok in current political climate. Anything can happen by end of June :( They agreed to change destination to Manila instead of Clark so I could transfer same day and not leaving airport if situations escalates back what it was or even worse.
What they did not agree was to compensate added travel cost because of arriving Manila - not Clark. I am not going to put fight on it but I will make a mental note for future travel.
I have been using CPA quite a lot. They also are many times delayed so too tight transfer window from their flight is not advisable.
I also have seen very pissed of mongers on check-in desk when they have been demanded to pay for excess weight (>15kg) for their luggage. The weight limit is strict. It may come surprise if you mostly have spent all your pesos.
I flew into Hong Kong and my girl friend was going to fly up from Clark and spend a few days with me in HKG before we both were going to fly back to the Philippines. Long-and-short of it, she got extorted by Clark immigration and they would not let her out of the country. That is another entire story. So, she did not arrive in HKG. Upon learning of her not arriving I went to the Cebu Pacific counter in HKG and tried to catch an earlier flight to either Manila or Clark. I did not want to sit in HKG for 3 days by myself. Cebu Pacific had one flight later that night but they wanted the equivalent of US$ 300 for one-way. I already had a ticket from HKG to Clark, but it was three days later. I then pulled out a credit card and Cebu Pacific in HKG would not take an American credit card. At their ticket counter in HKG they would not take US dollars in cash. They would not even take Philippine pesos (remember, they are a Philippine airline). To buy that US$ 300 ticket I would have had to convert any currency or any credit card into Hong Kong Dollars, before they would sell me a ticket. Long-story short, I had to go online the next day and buy a ticket and I spent probably US$ 300 buying another ticket and flying into Manila a couple of days later. Cebu Pacific I think is an OK airline once they shut the plane’s door and get up in the air, but when it comes to their administrative and ground operations they totally suck!
Just a thought, why should a company accept the money from some foreign country? Philippine Airlines in Hong Kong is running by HK rules.

Its a crappy airline. The planes are new, but its a typical asian airline (absolutely no frills). The aircraft interior on their A319/20 series are not the best (seats on all aircraft have no lower back support you find on every other airline). A number of similar items. Why the hell do the cabin overhead vents spit out steam while sitting on the tarmac/taxiway? Take the 5-hour flight from Manila-Jakarta and they won't even offer you a soda. This is low-cost stuff with a pretty face. Making a change to a ticket can be frustrating in other ways. Even if you get CP to make the change at one of their mall offices, you may have to taxi to the domestic airport in Manila to pay the change fee.
Its a crappy airline. The planes are new, but its a typical asian airline (absolutely no frills)..
Not to mention the few much older propeller planes they still use to fly between the islands. I've done that once and thru a rain storm too. Talk about a roller coaster ride, upside is glad they weren't serving any food or drinks that day.

it's not just for this pi thread but also i posted along with phantomtiger on the indonesian and cambodia and other threads about proper tipping and overtipping as not knowing the proper tips and culture had steadly driven up prices for everyone. and since this directed affects me then its a peev for me.

Many american banks or issuers of CC shut the card down the moment they detect its outside the US unless you phone the 800 # ahead of departure. Several of us have posted about this on the board, including ATM cards. CP might not be the one to deny its use, it might have not worked at all in many places in HK. It might magically also start working later.

Unfortunately, the answer is YES. My last trip in AC, remembered about 4 or 5 ladies asking for a tips and one "insisted" on it --making faces and getting all worked up about it. Only reason I remember her best is that she was a good lay and I was actually going to give her about 300p or more tip before she left but before I could even reach for my pants she got going with her "insisting on her tips BS". I was a bit ticked by this attitude so couldn't wait to get rid of her. Showed her the door without the tips.
Yes, the more people tip, the more they expect it from us and some are not embarrassed to ask for it . just the sign of the times I guess.

Depends. Being a dancer have a much much higher chance for being picked up by a monger as they are the ones "expected" to be picked up. Also I met a few waitress and some don't actually want to be taken out so they prefer being a waitress serving beer rather than a dancer. Also the regular salary the bar pays the dancers are alot more than for the waitress. Some dancers I met simply want to be a dancer--higher profile being on stage in skimpy swimwear and wants to be noticed and picked up. They could never imagine being a waitress.
So, mainly depends on the lady in question.

That's because there is a proportion of the warm moist outside air coming into the cooler less humid cabin. It is just the same as when you exhale on a very cold dry day - your warmer moist breath comes out as vapour in the colder dryer air outside. Some planes seem to get it more than others. I suspect that those that do get this phenomenon have a higher proportion of fresh air coming into the cabin. It cannot happen if they are 100% recirculating air inside the cabin.
So, it is probably a good sign of fresher air being used to aircon your plane.

I'm in Angeles City for 2 straight nights already. The first night we hit Club Atlantis bar as it was on our very first list to check out. When we went inside, it was smaller than we imagined it would be. In the videos we been watching on youtube, it appeared to look bigger. But, it looked small to me and my friend as we walked in. We weren't blown away by this club. We sat at the very front and bought those 300 pesos ping pong balls and threw it on stage. There is 15 ping pong balls in each basket and I believe it's 20 pesos per ball. I only drank water and the bottled water was 95 pesos.
We then went to Crystal Palace nearby and there were alot of girls on stage. However, most of them to us don't look all that attractive. The showgirls are 3000 pesos to BF and the regular dancers are 1500 pesos. Ladies drinks here is 250 pesos for SML. I did BF one of the showgirls since me and my friend didn't want to end the night with no BF. I wasn't impressed with the girl I BF. She wasn't that fun type of girl. She looked ok and had a nice body. But, I seen girls in Vikings bar in Cebu look better for only 1700 pesos BF.
Personally, I wasn't that impressed with these 2 popular bars on Fields Avenue. We were both spoiled when we went to Club Arena in Cebu before heading to Angeles City after. I admit, I as well and my friend enjoyed Club Arena. It is expensive there but, the girls look good and dress more classy. After we both BF a girl at Arena, it will be hard to find a girl in Angeles who can match up. I think we are a bit spoiled and standards right now are high.
The second night we did not even bother to go to any bars and just stayed in. There wasn't any bars I was anxious to go to.

On a related note I flew on Spirit Airlines in the States, from Detroit to Orlando a while back. I found it odd that the interior of the A319 was suspsciously similar to CP similar model aircraft. In fact, the exact same seat (no lower lumbar support), which I've never seen on any other airline except CP. The 3-hour flight was fine, but before the cabin doors closed for pressurization check, the same steam started coming out of the cabin vents overhead and making some people nervous (it was cold outside). Just like CP in Philippines. A co-inky-dink yes? OK, call the Spirit Airlines 1-800 number in the states and listen to the customer service rep who answers the phone: someone with a Filipino accent. The first time I called to make an itinerary change, I asked the young man if he was in Makati, Cebu, or Davao at a call center. He asked how I knew he was in filipines (hehe, the accent). He fixed my itinerary. In chat with him he said Spirit Air is owned by Filipinos. Don't be surprised if its a subsidiary, or sister act, to CP. He was in Makati BTW.
You are probably right, its probably designed to vent air prior to takeoff.

You can find the 9s and 10s on any night, know the salary day for the bar, and show up at the right time. Once a week the girls pick up their weekly pay for each of the days that they stood on stage dancing. Its usually Tuesday-Thursday, but on this particular day the number of dancers is double for that club what you'll see on normal days and girls will even hold off on bar fining until its their turn to go to the back room and get their money. Which also allows you to see more of whats really available there.
Aside from that, almost every club has some super hot gems but they can disappear early. There was a girl I met through a friend outside my hotels swimming pool. He picked her up at jollibees just by inviting her to eat with him and then she came back to our hotel to swim until she had to get ready for work. I chatted with both of them and he told me that he wasnt really into her personality. Her bar opened at 7:30 and I went to see her around 9 pm 4 days in a row. Each time she had already been barfined by a different guy before I got there. I didn't get grab her until I made a point to show up before 8 pm one day.
You also have to take shift into account. For example some girls start in atlantis at 7(correct me if I'm wrong) and others at 9 since it doesn't close until 5 am. Also many of the spotlight dancers who can be the best looking will stay in the back until its time to put on their special show. I don't know what time you went to Atlantis but if you went late try stepping in for just a sec right after 9 pm.

I have been in angeles about three years.
When I first got here I gave the girls tips. Now I do not tip. I may pay for trike ride home. Or give a little if I know for sure I don't want to see them again.
But I also take them places and will take them to doctor and dentist if needed after repeated visits.
But very little on up to five bar fines. This changes if I start seeing them longer term?
As I mostly want girls that are not too much into money. If they want something more, like friends or connection may sound silly but I prefer to see a girl again if I like her. If all she wants is money and tip then I don't care that she does not want to see me again.
Also the girls in angeles do seem to be getting fatter? But there are some awesome girls and more girlfriend types for my liking. But I have to search and go through many girls to fidn the right ones.
When I first arrived in the Philippines I did go to cebu and the girls there are really hot also but then I got hooked on angeles and I just wait till I find a the right girls.
...I was actually going to give her about 300p or more tip ... "insisting on her tips BS"... I was a bit ticked by this attitude so couldn't wait to get rid of her. Showed her the door without the tips...

Depends. Being a dancer have a much much higher chance for being picked up by a monger as they are the ones "expected" to be picked up. Also I met a few waitress and some don't actually want to be taken out so they prefer being a waitress serving beer rather than a dancer. Also the regular salary the bar pays the dancers are alot more than for the waitress. Some dancers I met simply want to be a dancer--higher profile being on stage in skimpy swimwear and wants to be noticed and picked up. They could never imagine being a waitress.
So, mainly depends on the lady in question.

I've been here for three nights, and took three different women. I usually tip something from 200-500 if they were good to me. None of them demanded a tip. Two actually stayed overnight until 12 pm and 2 pm and said their goodbyes and said hope to see you later and opened the door to leave without mention of a tip request. The other one short timed me when she had agreed to long time. I've never had a woman I barfined in Angeles demand a tip.

I just want to pipe in on a lot of posters here saying that all Koreans over tip the women here kind of talk and that their ruining it here and stuff. I've talked to women working in AC and Cebu in regards to this and I heard the same thing. Koreans are known to be big tippers at time and also are known to not tip at all to almost nothing. The women in Cebu were even saying they wanted to make sure beforehand with the Koreans if there was going to be anything in it for them because of their tendency to not give them anything except the barfine and apparently then it wasn't worth it for them to go.
In actuality, two waitresses who I was talking to about this the other night said Americans are on average the best tippers. So this is based on what the women are telling me. I wanted to bring this up because I think the Koreans are getting bashed for something that may actually not be true but is spread around here like it is. I'm curious if other people on this board here actually hear that Koreans are really big tippers on average as is being said by what the women working the bars are saying. Bar review:
Love and Music. Really enjoyed this bar. There are some stunners here to rival the cebu/makati big bars. Enjoyed the fact that the girls were in dresses, they look so much more elegant. Nice boudoir type setting/seats. Bought a couple of ladydrinks but didn't establish enough of a rapport with any girl to bf from here. Definitely on my hit list next time though.
Crystal Palace. My old favourite. Around 3 or 4 girls that I found attractive enough to bf. Took out a spotlight girl who was good value. Seemed a bit high maintenence though, but all in all good conversations and a smoking hot body/face.
Dirty Duck. Some of you may remember this bar as a dump (under the previous management) but it is one of the best there is now. Around 2.3 girls that I would have bf. Ended up taking out a 19 y/o waitress with a very cute face/personality (body a bit skinny but still acceptable enough). Thoroughly enjoyed my time with her. This bar is where the party was at, shame I didn't have time to go back a second time. Has a reputation for guys getting blowjobs next to the stage. Saw a girl pull out one guys cock so I can believe it happens. Also saw a couple of girls go topless.
Eruptions. Worth a visit. Tonnes of girls but only perhaps 1 or 2 I would bf. Some good looking waitresses who spoke very good english that I made friends with and wanted to take me to Mansion disco in Friendship area, but I didn't have time. All in all, worth spending time here.
Skytrax. If you can dance, man you don't need to barfine. Plenty of talent here, I'm sure freebies abound, well worth a visit. In fact next trip I might barfine less and concentrate on picking up here, it was that good.
Dissapointments. Forbidden city, shooterz, neros, blue nile and generally most other bars on fields. Generally speaking I don't find 98% of the girls attractive enough to bf, but despite that, most have a pleasing personality that goes some way towards having a good time in a bar. I had a policy of buying a LD for any girl I saw that was attractive, regardless of whether I had a girl already sitting with me with a drink. Often had 2 or 3 of the hottest girls drinking with me at some bars such as crystal palace. This policy worked as I 'left no stone unturned' in the search for the perfect barfine. It did get a bit pricey though. Not an approach for the cheap charlies.

Thus when these single Japanese blokes get to AC or THL in their twenties, they are starved of respect from the women round them. So for them, the tipping gets them the attention they are starved of all year. For them, a few days of expensive tips more than compensates for the fact that they get attention they would never dream about getting at home.
I suspect that for single young Japanese guys, tipping is more about their one chance in the year to be a 'big guy'...all too soon they have to go back home to being Mr Nobody. The opportunity once a year to throw some notes on the bar and have lots of ladies squealing over them is just too great for the ego to resist.
I would probably do the same if I were in their place and treated like a nobody because I was young and single, so I don't mean to criticise, rather, explain why they tip like they do.

I suspect that for single young Japanese guys, tipping is more about their one chance in the year to be a 'big guy'...all too soon they have to go back home to being Mr Nobody. Airfare for them is a fraction of what you'd pay if flying in from North America or Australia. Simply put, without needing to spend much on airfare, they have more money to throw around.

That's an interesting point they made to you. That if there was no tip, its not worth going with the Korean. At Vikings and the Mango bars, the barfine is p1700. The girl gets 1000, and they have never asked me for a tip. Where the heck did that come from, that p1000 is not worth it for her. In AC, the girls evenly split the barfine of (approx) p1400, to get 700 for a LT. I've only had two AC gals ask for tip (and it was recently, in the same week, which makes it a bit depressing). Filipinas in AC are happy with p700 for a LT; cebuanas think they are so special that they must have a tip to make the trip out of the bar worthwhile? Almost all of us are offering taxi money anyway. Its an interesting attitude on the girl's part.

We pay our staff a decent salary in the first place!
We do recognise superior or exceptional service & will tip for that when appropriate.
We find being expected to tip routinely tedious & insulting to both parties.
The P4P'ers in places like Burgos (Manila) expect big tips because they've been spoiled by newby blowin's & local playboys.
One needs to keep perspective. Whilst the temptation is there to rationalise big tips like p1500 by converting it to your local currency the truth is P4P are already earning a half month of non P4P salary in one session alone. Girls in AC rarely ask me & I only give for exceptional service.

Of course not, plenty of people are in that boat. However, that supports my argument in a way since the US is a tipping culture. Tips enable people to play the 'big man'. I did not particularly feel I needed to describe every tipping culture to make a point though. :)

The point I was making was that in Japan, quite often there is a universal correspondence between increasing age and 'respect' at work. If you are good looking enough in Australia and the US, you will, I suggest get a bit more respect than in a more rigid hierarchical society. I was not trying to suggest that there was no correspondence at all in other societies, just that in Japan, it is more so. Not mutually exclusive.

It is a bit economically different if you fly from the eastern USA like I do. Typical fares are $1200 USD. Divide that by the 6 days I can typically get away to be there.

A question to the seasoned AC pros...
How come there isn't much discussion about pickups at SM Mall? Is there much pickup activity there involving semi-pros or civilians?
Some of you are asking why would anyone go malling in Angeles when there's so much action on Fields. I ask because I was wondering if pickups at the mall may be a good way to spend the daytime since there's nothing to do on Fields/Primeter until late afternoons.

I'm Chinese-American, so I think I can provide a perspective from both sides of the Pacific.
One shouldn't lump Korean and Japanese tourists together.
The Japanese are extremely polite and have a soft-spoken culture. They'll bow and say "thank you" repeatedly. Theirs is an egalitarian society and the men don't "look down" on women as the Koreans do. I've never heard any working girl in Angeles say anything negative about the Japanese.
Korean folks are hardcore. They are loud, macho and brash. I agree with the poster who mentioned that Koreans are full on. They are. But. They generally don't tip. There's no tipping culture here. I could believe that they might throw in an extra little bit to make a deal go well. But only if they thought that they would get something for the payment.
Having said that. They are extremely generous with their friends, and generally the oldest man would pay for his friends to have a round. Be it drinks or women. So if a group of ten Korean friends goes mongering. The oldest guy (or in Korea. Normally the boss or the company) would pay for the birds. Here, they would go to a booking room. The girls might strip or dance for the guys and give them some attention in the room with their friends. And then. They all go their separate ways with the girls. BUT. At this point. The boss or whoever. Pays for everything. So in the Phils. They must wake up with a girl the next day and assume that whatever payment was made the night before. Was for everything.
Australians don't tip much at home. But we try to be sensitive to the norms in other places. And tip where appropriate. There are some cheap Charlies about though.

A question to the seasoned AC pros.
How come there isn't much discussion about pickups at SM Mall? Is there much pickup activity there involving semi-pros or civilians?
Some of you are asking why would anyone go malling in Angeles when there's so much action on Fields. I ask because I was wondering if pickups at the mall may be a good way to spend the daytime since there's nothing to do on Fields/Primeter until late afternoons.

By providing generous tips, they "gain" face which is a concept that is foreign to the westerner. Its not about showing off, its about how people in a society treat people. BTW, the Koreans HATE the Japanese due to the many wars and occupations that have happened over the course of history.
There is also a different class of Japanese that go to AC. It tends to be the lower middle class gentlemen (which is why they don't have the Japanese only clubs in AC). If you go to Thailand, there are many Japanese only establishments where the girls are young, beautiful, light skinned and "expensive". There are many Soi's in Bangkok with Japanese only clubs catering to the more affluent Japanese businessman.
Lastly, I have found Koreans (once they trust you) to be the nicest and most loyal friends you will ever have.

I just want to pipe in on a lot of posters here saying that all Koreans over tip the women here kind of talk and that their ruining it here and stuff. I've talked to women working in AC and Cebu in regards to this and I heard the same thing. Koreans are known to be big tippers at time and also are known to not tip at all to almost nothing.Key master,
There are many newbie new to AC that don't know the bar fine cover the service and tipping is option, I sure didn't know that first time in AC back in 2002 not an ISG member then, in Manila I tip girl at LA cafe 1000 peso to 1500 peso for FS didn't know AC, I did talk to bar girl yes korean tip very well and so and most are very rough and not nice to the girl if they are drunk most girl like American they tip good and they are gentleman.

I have read some of the posts about Japanese with some interest. I am an Aussie living in Japan. 12 years thus far, so I can speak with a little authority.
Firstly, pinays and thais do like the look of young Japanese. Afterall, they are Asian too. And, as Japan is generally regarded as Asia's economic powerhouse, the trends/fashion/music is most cutting edge in Japan. So, it is only natural they would like someone that kinda looks like them. Also, as you have probably noticed, the "cute" factor is pretty important in Asia. They really don't care if a guy can't be recognized apart from a girl in terms of his physique, just as long as his face is cute and feminine. I have met quite a few girls in Bangkok that have almost perfected the art of acting/dressing like a Japanese girl. Kinda annoying really. I took one from a high class escort site. I am a Japanese speaker and I have to say it was a rotten experience. This girl was a Japanese speaker and was so bloody spoilt by Japanese punters that she forgot she was a prostitute and thought she was a princess.
Japanese have horrible life. It they are in fulltime employment, they rarely are able to take holidays. If they do get holidays, then it won't be for more than 3 or 4 days. There is a segment of Japanese society that has opted out of the normal system of full time employment. They are called "FU RE TA". These guys work several part time jobs and prefer not having to do grueliing overtime. The lads you see traveling around and staying are long term overseas are these guys. They are regarded as lazy and being losers by mainstream Japanese.
About tipping. Now, Japanese are Asian, and like all Asians the idea of "saving face" is incredibly important. When they are out and about, they like people to think they are cashed up. Now, if the Japanese is there short time, in other words he is a full time employee and there for the weekend, then he will be a good tipper. Afterall, he is going to live large for the few days of his precious holiday. If it is one of those FU RE TAs I talked about, then he will be a cheap charlie.
The kind of Japanese we generally see around Thailand are Japanese are either a "salaryman", who might have a few dollars (not as much as you might think), or a loser young fella who either doesn't have the will or brains to enter mainstream employment.

Just a side note. Japanese are still very insular. The only Japs that would ever marry a Pinay is a country fella and generally older. There is a shortage of Japanese women in rural areas. I know quite a few Pinays here and the divorce rate is through the roof. I have to say, Japan is a fun place to live as a foreigner. But living a typical "japanese" style life, with all its rules and constraints is pure misery. The pinays that are here HATE, I mean HATE their Japanese lives and their husband's families. Japanese families are emotionally cold and isolated compared to their Philippines families. They are however stuck once they get here as they often fall pregnant and get used to having a bit of money. Many of the Japanese families even forbid the women to speak to their kids in Tagalog.

Lately several gents on the board (including myself) have reported that (a few) girls have started asking for a tip. Most bar girls wont ask for it. Really, its not that much of an increase over when you were here, considering it was 15 years ago.

What I found disturbing during my trip is that most Pinoy will assumed that I am either Korean/Japanese first before other Asian race. I found that when I entered a bar (for the first time) the girls will normally be a bit distance (in approach) towards me until one of them usually a waitress, when taking my drink order, will asked me whether I am Korean or Japanese. When I said I am neither and that I am a Chinese from Malaysia, the other girls' attitude will take a dramatic change and suddenly everyone is friendly towards me.
Also when I walked on the street with a girl, some trike driver will shout something in Tagalog at me. So once I asked the girl I was with (Michelle) what they were shouting at, she explained to me that they are calling me "Korean Dog"........
My conclusion from the first encounter in AC is that the Korean (in particular) and maybe the Japanese have done some "damage" in AC that resulted in a bad reputation amongst the locals.
Any other Asian mongers here have had similar experiences?

I'm Chinese too. I've notice the door girls are less likely to yell out to you if you're Asian. That's what I've noticed when sitting at Kokomo's and watching the crowd.
I don't think it's because they don't value Asian patronage. Asian folks tend to be more stiff, more serious and would simply walk pass the girls without acknowledging them. The younger white folks are the ones usually riled and crazy with the door girls. The girls are simply being fun to those whom they think will be fun to them in return. Perfectly understandable.
Inside the bar, I don't feel any discrimination. I think it's because of how I conduct myself. Most Asian guys usually walk in with a large group, talk only amongst themselves and barely acknowledge their surroundings until it's time to pick the meat. I don't do that. I go alone. I walk in with a smile, maybe wave to some of the girls. I may even go to the restroom and, as I walk pass some girls, give them a high five. I will usually buy the waitress a drink so she'd sit with me. As I talk to her, I (hopefully) show that I'm a fun sociable guy, not some creep or asshole. Above the music, the girls may hear me speak with an American accent. I think this helps dispel some of the girl's preconceived notions.
Overall, I believe how you conduct yourself is way more important than skin color. I've never felt unwanted in a bar because of my race. Trust me. If there is a fun outgoing Asian guy sitting next to a stiff creepy white guy, the girls will gravitate towards the Asian guy.
I do feel unwanted if I go into large bar like Atlantis or Forbidden City alone. I think these mega bars only want large groups of Asians.

Clearly, the Koreans have damaged their image in AC. The waitresses seem to dislike Koreans the most, and the Indians second.

Overgeneralizing leads to stereotypes and that is what you've done. I know a Burmese gal who married an older Japanese man and is quite happy living in their extended family right here in Tokyo.

I met a girl in one of the bars, she was 19. Her story was she met a Japanese guy in the mall, two months later she was pregnant, got married had the baby lost contact with hubby now in the bar to make money for baby.

RobbIt make me recall back one of my short visit 2 years ago to angeles. I meet 2 young girls when I'm buying a big box of dry mango in sm small. They sales some sort of drinks or coffee there, so I ask them where can I get a box of mango. They are very helpful and asking many things unrelated to the mango. In the end, I buy them some chocolate. They said they are free and would like to having dinner with me after work. But since it is a short visit, I don't think I can play this game well in such a short time. So I quit and go back to my Disneyland.

From my conversations for THAI girls, however, Japanese overpay by far and are the easiest customers. 3-3-3 is not a myth. This is straight from the girls mouths' not mine.My survey result is difference.

I spent three days in AC last weekend and during a bar hop I met this cutie. She has been in the bar less then a month and after talking to her I told my buddies that she would be gone, as in permanent barfine, in less then three months. As I continued talking to her she told me that her first barfine was coming back in a week and had asked her if she wanted to leave the bar. Not really a shock as I think you have not accounted for the exchange rates during the mid 90's and today.
If I recall , way back then the rate was $1 US= about 25p
Today the current rate is $1 US= about 46-47p, as we are getting almost double the exchange rate now over 15 years ago.
1995: 500p= $20
Today 1000p=$21

Not really a shock as I think you have not accounted for the exchange rates during the mid 90's and today.
If I recall , way back then the rate was $1 US= about 25p
Today the current rate is $1 US= about 46-47p, as we are getting almost double the exchange rate now over 15 years ago.
1995: 500p= $20
Today 1000p=$21

If I have to guess the secret is you have to be VERY discreet if trying to pick up from a place where there are few girls working as the colleagues would not look favorable on the girl or spend and show a bit of cash. Overall I don't think is worth the effort but I did it anyway just to see the difference between working pro and 'normal' filipina.
Considering my time away from the missus is worth gold to me I would rather pay for my adventures and leaving it up the way I want to rather then shearing the moments.

My first trip to AC was on my own as my other friends decided to go to Pattaya (in the mist of the protest). I never put on an attitude when I entered a new place. I am all smile and if I found some of the girls interesting my first LD is normally for the mamasan. I do this in the hope that the mamasan will "guide" me in my choice of girls. I have not been disappointed with this approach in my ventures to Bangkok, Jakarta, Pattaya and now AC.
I do not think they were being discriminating rather they were cautious. Once they know I am not Korean / Japanese, their attitude normally with turn very friendly and began to be playful.
This is not the first place I have been asked that question as I have also experienced the same in Bangkok and Pattaya. I do not know what the Korean / Japanese have done to make the situation as it is. Maybe some other members here might be able to enlighten us given their numerous experiences and possible encounters with the people of these two Countries.

I'm Chinese too. I've notice the door girls are less likely to yell out to you if you're Asian. That's what I've noticed when sitting at Kokomo's and watching the crowd.
I don't think it's because they don't value Asian patronage. Asian folks tend to be more stiff, more serious and would simply walk pass the girls without acknowledging them. The younger white folks are the ones usually riled and crazy with the door girls. The girls are simply being fun to those whom they think will be fun to them in return. Perfectly understandable.
Inside the bar, I don't feel any discrimination. I think it's because of how I conduct myself. Most Asian guys usually walk in with a large group, talk only amongst themselves and barely acknowledge their surroundings until it's time to pick the meat. I don't do that. I go alone. I walk in with a smile, maybe wave to some of the girls. I may even go to the restroom and, as I walk pass some girls, give them a high five. I will usually buy the waitress a drink so she'd sit with me. As I talk to her, I (hopefully) show that I'm a fun sociable guy, not some creep or asshole. Above the music, the girls may hear me speak with an American accent. I think this helps dispel some of the girl's preconceived notions.
Overall, I believe how you conduct yourself is way more important than skin color. I've never felt unwanted in a bar because of my race. Trust me. If there is a fun outgoing Asian guy sitting next to a stiff creepy white guy, the girls will gravitate towards the Asian guy.
I do feel unwanted if I go into large bar like Atlantis or Forbidden City alone. I think these mega bars only want large groups of Asians.
Clearly, the Koreans have damaged their image in AC. The waitresses seem to dislike Koreans the most, and the Indians second.

HesekielsTo be honest I did this a long time ago, '04-'05 on one of my first visits to AC. This was the first and only time that I purposely did something like that and quickly worked out the obvious.
The difference is there is a lot less headache and hustle with a bargirl. For the price we pay in AC a bargirl is the right way to go. In other parts of the world where cash can be an issue then maybe pursuing a freebee is a viable option.
In terms of performance I wasn't disappointed with the 'normal' girls but it took a whole night of dancing and drinking outside the tourist area (the area where I was comfortable) in bars and clubs I didn't know.
It was a different experience but since my time in AC is limited simplicity sometimes is the way to go.

Hmm, perhaps you have misread my reply (or someone elses reply for mine?)as I never said Japanese is or is not a tipping culture-- the highlighted post only reflect what is commonly known that the Jap tend to tip and tip very well when they are out for P4P in many asian countries, especially in BKK where I frequent alot.

Seems the service is in full swing although I still don't know how they got around the taxi mafia over this route. The taxis were making a killing with their inflated rates to the airport for a 5 min ride.

From what I have heard, they have jeepnies meeting every scheduled flight into DMIA 24/7 to Main Gate and Dau bus terminal.
They also depart Dau for DMIA 2.5 hours before every scheduled flight picking up at Main Gate along the way.
Flew into CRK from KUL last week and noticed the new a/cond jeepneys. Hopped into one of them together with 4 locals. The driver wanted to charge them 300 pesos to get to Dau although there were locals. I got off at SM terminal and contributed 100 pesos towards their fare. For me it was cheaper than taking a cab but I was surprised that he tried to squeeze his own kind!

Man, that 300m (but I think its a bit more than that) felt like a full mile to me and the fare was much more than 10p from what I remember--perhaps they were charging me more due to luggage?
Now the return trip back to the airport from fields was a b**itch because the don't tell you where to get off (the gate with the airport guard post) and I had to travel well past the airport entrance just to get off (as I don't know exactly where the jeepneys last stop will be) and hop on another one back to the airport entrance.--oh well, live and learn.

For my return trip to DMIA, I managed to negotiate a 200 php fare from a taxi at the Main Gate Terminal. On the way to the airport, the driver asked me to settle the normal 300 php fare in full. When I said that I am left with only 200php, he drove me to a petrol station along the route to change my USD. He refused to move if I didn't do so. Who knows? Worse things could have happened!
That was a frightening experience for me. Nowadays, I usually ask my hotel to get a car for me and I don't mind paying the standard 300 php for peace of mind.
P.S. The a/c jeepney is a good idea. Aren't the authorities checking the operation to make sure that it functions as it should?

What Acqua just mentioned earlier is true. I talk stories with the mamsans at the gogo bars and you'll see several mamsans in the gogo bars in Angeles City. Each mamsan has their own group of girls that they recruit. One can be head of a group of girls from Mindanao, while another can be head of a group of girls from Cebu.
When I ask a majority of the working girls, they say they got into working at a gogo bar because they know a friend who is already working there or, a relative like a cousin or sister whose currently working there.

How is everyone going? I might be thinking to much or have to much free time on my hands. I raised a question about 1 week ago is there a book of rules that the girls follow. I have come to a finding that there is a set of guide lines that these girls do follow. You never got any sensible answers because it is a "silly question" and most of us probably thought you weren't serious.
Of course there is no book or guidelines the girls follow.

Damn annoying. You get that email telling you not to find another means of transportation if you don't see the driver because they are there. And you call them using an overseas SIM costing $$$$. Yet you pay the premium for a pick up expecting some reliability.
First time was ok. The hotel was new and they gave me a free room upgrade to apologize. I accepted it as teething problems to a new hotel.
Second time. No apology. No upgrade. Got some lame excuse about how they thought I was arriving in the PM instead. I told the driver he had my flight details, they pick up customers all the time + no that many flights in and out of Clark = no excuse. Someone fucked up.
If I they were on time, I would have probably scored Abigail on Day 1 before she got LD by another punter.

The Boracay question has been done to absolute death in virtually every Boracay post.
In case you still can't be bothered searching, the general consensus is that you should take your own girl. You will probably pay a lot more for a local girl who is half attractive.

Most of the places on Fields Ave offer just about the same rate Although at times Normas money changer is usually leading the pack with a 10 centavo difference. I like it there because they have a gaurd right at the window with a shot gun (looks good even if he doesn't know how to shoot it). Other places have no privacy and everyone is always watching.

There's alot of Money Changers on fields Avenue but, it's out in the open. I don't like this especially if your exchanging $500+ dollars at once. I exchanged my $100 bills at one of the department stores in SM Clark. There's a guard standing there. The bad thing about this is that you have to walk to SM Clark and you have to fill out this form that includes your name,amount of money being exchanged, place your staying at, your passport number.
This is the same with other department stores in SM Mall. SM Mall in Cebu the department stores that have an exchange counter will also require a form to be filled out.

How is everyone? I have just come back from my honeymoon which we spent it in subic bay. The wedding went of without a hitch everyone had a great time. ThanksYou might also consider checking with the hotel you plan to stay at. Several of them offer shuttle service from Manila... if you want to throw away the P2000 - 2500.
Pretty sure that all bus service from Manila runs from the bus terminal or Mall and you will need to take a taxi there from the airport. I read that you don't want to take the taxis from the airports lower level. They won't use their meter and overcharge. Go up one level and take a taxi from the departure entrance. The taxi into Manila shouldn't cost more than P120 and the bus to AC should be about the same. The Jeepneys might be even cheaper but without ac you might regret it.
I have read that there are ways to trim the cost for the entire trip down to about P130 :
Jeepney to mrt-edsa (Metro Rail Transit) = PHP 10
Train to Ortigas Megamall = PHP 13
Bus North (baguio, tarlac, pagasinan or any bus passing Dau) get off in Dau = PHP 90
Jeepney to SM Clark = PHP 7.50

ThanksThere are no direct buses from Manila airport to Angeles. You could take a taxi from the airport to Pasay terminal and then take a bus to Dau terminal (in Angeles). Total cost is about 400 Php.

Philtranco has direct buses to the Clark Airport that leaves SM Megamall five times a day (2:30am, 7am, 11:30am, 1pm and 3pm). You can also catch the bus from their Pasay and Cubao stations. To/from Pasay, the fare is PHP350, and to/from SM Megamall and Cubao, the fare is PHP300.

There is one bus from the Airport but there are many from Manila. Take a taxi from the airport to Pasay Vitory Liner bus terminal and get on the bus (about 132php) going to Dau. When you get to Dau you take a trike to Fields Ave or your hotel (70php). Both Sawgman and Sourthern Cross hotels have daily shuttles (around 400php) running from Manila to AC but times very:

Public transportation is indeed the cheapest option! However, if you arrive late and with heavy luggage you might consider a pick-up service. If I am not mistaken it costs about 3000 pesos from the airport to AC, but since it is much faster and more comfortable by car it might be worth it!

Yup, yup and yup hehe. Im filipino myself and I get rejected numerous times at a gogo bar. Sometimes, it takes me a while until I do find someone I like and who will go back with me to my hotel. Taking a girl from a bar in AC or on P Burgos street is little different than non-barfine girls in probability of getting something. Its a myth that the bargirls are carrying an up-to-date health card.

I have been reading alot before my first trip to AC. But for the life of me i cant figure out the difference between Fields Ave and Perimeter Rd. Obviously i know they are different locations.
Maybe to give you some context would be better to answer it in.
I am a seasoned Pinay hunter and have been all over to different islands. For some reason i just got the idea that AC would be like Soy Cowboy with women shooting bananas and ping pong balls out of their snatch. In another word, i can live without LA Cafe but i could live my whole life in Havana Cafe.
Upon further discussion it sounds like it is really a good time and a must see, at least once.

Keep her out of a bar, apartment, food, family of 12you might be supporting, hair-nails done once a week, new threads as she will need to look maganda when you take her to where your going, obtaining records for passport/Visa, trips to Manila for passport/interviews?? 2)Much more selection of ladies at Fields (most of the mega-bars are located in Fields, bars at Perimeter tend to be much smaller.
3) Fields will be open most of the nite while Perimeter Rd bars closes early (some by 9pm and others between 9-10:30pm)
You'll know the differences once you been here a day or so and scope out both locations.

4) Perimeter bars can get more raunchy. I saw people getting BJs inside one of the Perimeter bars. Are the Perimeter bars still raunchy?
5) Perimeter bar area is probably not as safe. Since the bars are more spread out, there are less people around. And plus there seems to be more dark spots.
6) Overall quality of girls is slightly higher in Fields.
