Just a reminder to visitors who are accustomed to paying a credit charge in their home country that there is no credit card surcharge in the Philippines by law.
There is a specific Republic Act 7394, Article 81 called the "Price Tag Requirement," for the Dept of Trade and industry (DTI) that specifically rules against a CC surcharge.
I was reminded about this when a restaurant in Boracay tried to hit me with a surcharge. I challenged it, and the waitress went to get the owner (who turned out to be a belligerent German).
I quoted RA 7394 (stored in my cellphone) and told him that I wanted the surcharge to appear on my official receipt and that I would be reporting him to the DTI.
Almost immediately my bill was fixed WITHOUT a surcharge.
I have learned that a number of AC hotels add on a surcharge for CC payments and get away with it because guys are unaware that it is illegal.
They all know it's illegal, so if they try it on just remind them that you know about RA 7394.
They will back down. Be careful when you book online through Agoda etc because they often have a surcharge. See if there is an option to pay the hotel direct and avoid that price gouging practice.

2) Hot, fresh roasted chicken is good. Only 170 pesos. There's couple of places near the jeepney station and one on MacArthur near Fields.
3) The cheese steak sandwich at Phillies is good. Kind of expensive, close to US prices.
4) Hint: for inexpensive veggies and salad, go to the Royal Amsterdam. They have an inexpensive soup and salad bar (1 bowl and 1 plate only). I pile a huge portion of veggies and salad on my plate. This is how I try to eat healthy on a cheap budget (especially if I bring my own bottle of water).

Great. I booked my Taxi with Beeway travel, for 2500. Car was very new and comfortable, and I have no complaint about the driving. I can recommend them. I had previously tried to book a car with my hotel, but they asked me for my credit card details to secure the booking. Sending my cards security details, by email, and to hotel staff in the Philippines? Yeah, right, that's going to happen.
3 hours later indeed, I was in my room at the Royal Amsterdam. I have to say I'm pleased with it. Rooms are very quiet, which is really nice as it is in on Walking street..

Been hearing about that place on other forums.
The day was not getting any younger, so I made my way for a quick meal at Swiss chalet, which I found a bit overpriced but with decent food, and my way from there to Philly's. I was hoping it was a bit of a pickup bar, but was a bit disappointed in that respect. This mostly is a place to watch sport, not so much to pickup anyone. There are many Ladyboys in front of it, and many street vendors. After having been offered Viagra half a hundred time, I made my way to The Body Shop. I am merely alerting guys to the fact that credit card surcharges are ILLEGAL in the Philippines. You need to be steadfast in your refusal to pay, and if they will not back down after your "threats", then you should have cash on hand to pay (or suck it up, pay the surcharge on the card, allow yourself to be screwed and encourage the merchant to do it again for the next customer).
If you take this latter course, you will not see the surcharge appearing on your receipt because the rip-off merchants cannot allow evidence of their law-breaking to be shared with DTI.

The best dish of the night was the new trainee waitress. She was seriously cute and had a winning smile. At the end of her training she'll demand the customer move his menu out of the way so that she can lay down a place mat. However it's not a case of 'if" you get a dud, it's when. How to handle them can make or break your holiday. If you get a dud, a starfish, a runner, a fugly my advice is just to cut the losses and move on. Just put it down to experience and get back to mongering.

In this report, I will be blending my memories of the past 2 days, in no particular chronological order. Reason being that my brain has become a big foggy in terms of what happened and when.

I have been there for more than 4 hours.
At first, it felt a bit weird to go there alone. Definitely a place to visit with pals. I have been back for exactly a month since my last two week visit to AC, and on reflection, I have to say it was my most disappointing stay. I used Swagman Fly the Bus (usually a van) to Ermita with an 8 am departure. The hotel staff seemed wary of F the Bus. It seems that on at least one occasion they didn't make a pickup.
In the end there were only two passengers. Traffic wasn't too bad and it took about two hours. Killed time by having lunch at the Swag restauarant. Swagman Hotel seems to have been renovated. But waitress was a bit dull. Also a group of Filipinos with a bucket of beer at 10 am – noisy of course.
About 11 am got a taxi (easily) and was in the airport by 11:45. Paid 200 P. Driver was good and traffic wasn't bad. Skyway appears to be finished. At the gates by 11:20. That left me with 2+ hours to kill. Better safe than sorry.
I saved a little bit of money by taking a very early CEB-CRK flight which required be to get up about 2:30 am. By 7 am I was in AC and was fortunate to get an early check-in at one of my favorite hotels. Excited to be in AC and got an early afternoon start at Pony Tails and then headed west on Perimeter. The bars that stick out in my mind are Det5, the new Irish bar, and my final stop – Honey Kos. Things were getting crazy at Honey kos.
I had maximized my bar hopping pleasure my ordering bottled water in between beers. With water I could leave a bar at any time, taking the water with me. So, it gave me the flexibility to leave at will, but also kept me hydrated.
Anyway, walked back to my hotel, freshened up, ate, and then hit the Fields bars. Unfortunately, my lack of sleep caught up to me. I think I was sound asleep in my room by 11 pm – alone. The old adage, "penny wise, pound foolish" comes to mind. I saved money on the early flight, but couldn't take advantage of the AC nightlife because of my sleeplessness.
The quality of the bars change day to day, if not hour to hour. The notes below are just my observations and memories as of March 2018. I do find the overall bar hopping experience much more enjoyable now that smoking is prohibited.
Centauro / Carousel I've always liked this bar because of the rotating carousel / dance floor. The view is always changing. And this trip there was an extraordinarily petite young lady that I probably should have barfined. Tiny and cute with a badass shoulder tattoo.

1991? Can anyone explain the thinking behind the new name, 1991, for a bar that was called Eruptions. Inside, everything looks the same. It's a pretty bleak place.
Body Shop I kind of like these old style bars. Anyone with a hair fetish? One chubby waitress had hair almost to her knees. And one of the dancers also had very long hair. If you stood her up in her birthday suit, you could tickle her clit with her hair.
The big show bars have their pros and cons. Lots of beautiful gals of course, but a bit hard to get eye contact. There used to be some good pole dancing, but didn't see any this trip. Sadly, some guests still get their kicks throwing bills at the girls. How can the ping pong ball manufacturers make a buck if people just throw cash? One thing I don't like about some of the big places is the pressure to sit down. These are big places. I want to look around and decide where to sit. I don't need some waitress using her laser pointer to find me a seat. I don't need three ladies shouting, "Have a seat sir. " I also don't need the door lady coming in behind me and giving me a light push. I guess that is their way of welcoming a guest, but it doesn't work for me.
I saw an odd thing. One of the colorfully dressed ladies who typically hold a baby as they beg was in my vicinity. An East Asian fellow seemed to actually dash away from her. And then she chased him! I guess her radar detected a soft-heart.

Here is a question. What do mongers bring home from AC to help fill the long weeks and months in between visits?

I brought home a flyer from Scorebirds pool party to remind me of the fun times I had there. And a few pics, but mostly all I have are memories.
I know one day, not too far in the future, I will be too old to fly for 20 hours, and thus to go to AC. I would need to move there semi-permanent and that is to be a HARD life. After 10 days or so in the PI and I am ready for the peace and security of my home country. I will have to bring home a LBFM to keep me company at that point LOL.

This is a blog to help future travelers to AC. But it also serves to help past travelers such as I, who are now stuck in the Land of the Hippos (ie the USA), to relive my memories of a place I love as much as AC.
I am stuck here with no sex, and herds of 300 lb hippos, but a mind full of AC memories, and an inquenchable urge to be back in AC. Thus I have lotsa stories and opinions to share about AC.
Do you know retiree bars in AC? There is one a few stores down from the Dollhouse. There are 20 retirees there everyday drinking beer. I bet they are chatting about war stories (most are military veterans I bet), but also about their war stories in the sack with the young pinays.
Just because I am thousands of miles away doesn't mean I can't chat about my war stories and opinions of AC.When you live there there is no need to talk about it. It's when you are back home coming up with every excuse why you can't get a chick in your own country that the stories come in handy.
