Apart from Tony disco the biggest rip-off that is still happening in Pattaya is the baht-buses, the thief-drivers always seemed to complain when I gave them the reglamentary 5 bahts, they demanded 5 more bahts, that is, they cheekly added a 100% mark-up and they were stupid enough to wait for me to pay the rip-off extra 5 bahts. I know this has been discussed here before, I just want to express my disgust for those driving thieves.
I usually just gave them 5 bahts and left without even looking back at them, it is the best thing to do. But when I was with chicks they sometimes called them and started arguing with them, demanding the rip-off supplement. On one of the occasions my cutie took out 10 bahts and gave them to him. I asked her why she had done it, she said that it was 10 bahts per person. I didn't want to waste my time discussing that with the chick so I just forgot about it, but the cuties should know better than that. I suppose she was thinking of the 1,000 bahts she was going to get for the LT and decided to give some of her profits to the bastard as an act of charity.
This is not about being a cheap Charlie, it is about not being a sucker. Who the fuck are these drivers? Do they think they know better than us?
Regarding the Eastern European hookers I spotted a few but none of them were to my like so I didn't even speak to them. There is a blonde who is in Marine disco every night, she has a very beautiful face, the porn star type of face, but around her waist there is more fat than that recommended by the WHO, no doubt she is drinking too much beer in her nights out and too much cum after her nights out, she should go on a diet to improve her looks.

Gladiator, you are absolutely right. Who are those drivers? Who do they think they are to dare ask you 10 Bath. You should stop taking those bath buses and walk in the heat instead.
By the way a fare did cost 5 bath 15 years ago. Why can't they increase their rates?

After being in Thailand for more than a month, I've got this impression of Thais, in general, as a people with their hands out for what they don't deserve.
I had forgotten that it was 5BT standard, and I walked up to a baht bus that was parked and asked how much to get to Soi 8 (from Walking Street). The driver said 120BT (60/person). Luckily, I knew that was way way way out of the stratosphere and said so. The driver tried to counter that we would be the only people in the bus. Me and my cutie walked away.
Trying to ease the tensions by paying that little extra seems like a normal thing to the BG's. I've had to yank my cuty's money out of the outstretched, grubby paws of thieves trying to overcharge on more than one occasion. Worst was when a two moto-drivers tried to tell me that I owed them 40BT for taking me and the cuty from the entrance to Soi 11 down to the GP. I handed the main driver a 10 BT piece and was about to walk away when my girl started to hand im a 50 BT note. Needless to say he was pissed when I was quick enough to snatch it away, grab her hand and drag her away.

The Thai government won't let them. Bahtbuses are part of the publictransportsystem and their pricing is subject to government approval.
Longdistance bus prices were allowed to go up in 1999 after the oilpricesurge and the rapid rise of the dollar.
Trainprices have not changed at all in at least ten years.
Some of you think that B5 for a short bahtbusride in Pattaya is a low price.
NOT!
The white #2 bus, now songthaew, that runs for miles and miles and miles from UbonRatchataniRWS in WarinChamrap all the way to the northern edge of Ubon, and passes every conceivable destination within that city, is just B5. No bahtbusdriver in Ubon will atempt to rip you off, in fact they wouldn't accept a tip as they do not understand the concept of tipping.
About a year ago I took the Thai Limo Service (I believe it is owned by Thai Air) from the BKK airport to Pattaya. The price was 200 baht. You have to go to the Thai Limo desk at the airport to get it. Their service was only during the day time so those of you landing at mid-night or after are out of luck. If I recall correctly Thai Limo ran their buses (they are mini-vans) every several hours (i.e. 9 AM, noon, 3 PM, 5 PM) during the day. You have to share the van with others as well. Having said that, I thought that I had read on another site a few months ago that Thai Limo has discontinued this service. I am not sure if this is the case so maybe somebody else here can confirm that.
Something else to remember about the Thai Limo service (if it is still running). Once you get on the bus the driver with play some games with you. He will tell you that for 100 baht more he can take the express way to Pattaya so you can get there faster. He will also try to sell you (for another 100 baht) on the idea he can take you directly to your hotel rather than to the bus station in Pattaya. You can get a baht bus at the bus station to your hotel for 20 baht or less (provided your not in Jomtien).
It's been awhile since I've been to the coast near Pattaya. I'll be going straight to Pattaya from BKK just as many of you guys have been talking about. I read your threads with interest. I still don't know how I will execute my travel, but I want the quickest path short of flying.
I was hoping to rent a vehicle again and do a little touring. I cruised to Trat and back one long day on an old Honda Gold Wing 'standard' and had a ball - even though I got lost. The roads back then were pretty rugged to say the least It seems when you reflect on those kind of things you're glad they happened as long as no harm was done. Could any of you folks give me any ideas of cool places you may have toured to outside of Pattaya? You know how it is when you get a little stir-crazy after doing the same thing all the time: beer, sex, more beer etc. etc.

Farang Steve, we don't have to walk in the heat because we have the right to use the public transport and we have the right to pay the standard price of that public transport instead of 2 times the standard price.
If the cheeky drivers don't like their job they should retrain in a new, more profitable career.
Freeler is absolutely right pointing out that 5 bahts is already an inflated price. I am not sure how much the (cheapest) Bangkok buses are at the moment, but 2 years ago they cost around 3-4 bahts for a very long run (e.g. from the Sukhumvit strip close to Nana Plaza to Wat Po), that is those baht buses in Pattaya are quite expensive in comparison, and on top of that we have to deal with the loosers that drive them barking at us every single time we take one of them and pay the right price (5 bahts).
there is alot of talk about pattaya baht buses and their drivers. to end confusion and avoid confrontation read on.
1. do not ask a driver questions unless you speak thai.....ever.
2. exit bus, walk up to driver or accomplice (the side next to the sidewalk) drop your coin in hand and turn and walk away.
3. do not pay in denominations higher than a 5 baht coin.
4. do not approach the driver with your girlfriend anywhere near you (remember that you will not lose her if you let her hand go, unless you are one really ugly s.o.b. )
5. remember that these drivers are looking for unsure, unsteady, confused and insecure newbies who are afraid of doing the wrong thing. they will smell it on you like an old [CodeWord132] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord132). don't act like you just arrived, even if you didn't.
6. remember that thailand is not the u.s.a or europe. it is as far east and exotic 180 degree turnaround from civilization as we know it, so normal rules do not apply. meaning, they will usually not be honest and tourist friendly as back home. they can make change, but only if your a local and can act and look like one. you give them an inch and they will take a kilometer.
7. deviations from this list of guidelines and you will almost always suffer a distraction from your primary purpose of landing in pattaya. the cheap gash mecca.
The baht bus drivers, I have been off the net for most of the day and log on to see one of my favorite topics being posted about. Freeler is 100% correct the 5 baht fare is overpaying in relation to most of Thailand. These drivers are nothing more than thieves in the night they will steal any chance that they get. The regulated fare for all is five baht and that is all anyone should pay.
Please don’t post back that it is only 10 cents more to pay 10 baht because you are missing the whole point, stealing is stealing the amount is really not important. I will never overpay these thieves because they are just that thieves. Many drivers know me now and don’t fight with me over the fare but others still want to overcharge, most times they end up losing more because the other passengers see and hear me and then they too just pay five baht.
Last year during Cobra Gold I got on a baht bus at Pattayaland II it had seven guys from the Navy already riding. Any ways I found out the driver had told them 100 baht each from South Pattaya Road to Soi 8!!! Needless to say when I got off at Soi 8, my stop any ways they only paid 35 baht in total for the seven of them and the next driver who tried to overcharge them was in for trouble because they were mad and out for blood.

From some of the posts on here I have come to the conclusion that Pattaya must attract the cheap charlies from every corner of the world, no wonder the quality of the girls is so bad, pretty girls don't want to get shagged for 300 baht.

what turnip truck did you fall off of? cg has been an annual event for quite a number of years now. any veteran monger/punter will tell you that april/may will have a major influx of gi joe's in-country. exact dates (accurate or not) are irrelevant as there are mililtary clowns rep001tered all over los before, during and after the exercise.
impacts of cg:
1) getting a hotel room could be harder to get in smaller towns like korat, pattaya, nahkon si thammarat. etc. bangkok shoudn't be a problem.
2) any and every working-girl be available at any site where gi joe's will operating from.
3) drunk (and stupid) gi joe's are not worth confronting or fighting over a girl for. there are plenty of girls to take home.
4) prices for working-girls may rise due to simple economics (supply+demand///beer+unmasturbated semen from jar-heads).

I thought that the 5 baht fare and even 10 bahts to go from South Pattaya to North Pattaya is extremely cheap, compared to Koh Samui where any short trip on Chaweng Beach Road by public songtaew costs 20 bahts.
Also, in the latest tourist booklet about Pattaya the fare for public bus in town is listed as 10 baht. A couple of years ago they printed 5 baht, but now it's in the official tourist booklet as 10 baht within town as well as to go to Naklua. I know this is incorrect but that what it says.
It seems that if you give only 5 baht no one complains but if you give 10 baht they don't give you change. Also if I take a girl at night they insist that the fare for the two of us is 20 baht. I don't want to destroy the night with arguing so I pay. I think they are actually counting on this.

It may sound cruel but those "cuties" are not your cuties but they are simply a merchandise, a tool to part you and me from our cash in the most efficient way. They and the taxi driver are one, they work for the same "company".
I would be a fool to believe that the girl who is being friendly with me and I just barfined 5 minutes ago is going to represent my interests. I don't know this girl, she doesn't know me. All she knows is that I am "farang" and "farang has money too much". "Thai people has money little", so she will do everything in her power to act as a national hero to channel as much as my cash in to the hands of her own folk as she possibly can.
These girls are extremely affectionae at times but it's all a big lie. Many others have told us before. Have we forgotten it already?
It has happened that after much sweat I negotiated the fare of moto-taxi down from 50 baht to 30 baht. And when we arrive at the hotel with my "sweetheart", what she does? She gives the driver an extra 20 baht to make up 50 as he originally wanted.
Of course being a gentleman I gave it back to her but asked why she did it. The answer was very frank and shockingly painful:
"Because he is like me."
Meaning, that I am not like her because I am just farang and not thai, can't even speak thai, what the fuck do I want to rip their folks off when I have too much money anyway! And then I woke up.
It has happened since so many times. They believe that they are doing some sort of "national service" by providing their folks with as much cash as possible from the farang's pocket. Wake up!
The "cutie" is not your cutie. It is the cutie of great "Prathet Thai, The Homeland", who has a job to do. Did you ever believe that these girls actually have any compassion for you?
I did too. Once upon a time. But even now I often have to remind myself.
Really, it pleased me a lot to notice that in this country suddenly I became funny, handsome and succesful with women. They were laughing at my stupid jokes (never happened before). For many years I didn't even realize that it was all just crap and if I paid 500 bahts I got 500 baht worth of smiles and if paid 1000 baht then got 1000 baht worth of smiles.
But the point is still the same. I am not thai. I don't belong here. My usefulness ends with the contents of my wallet. And so does yours. That's why your "cutie" is actually doing her best to be a good citizen and assist her own folks, be it a taxi driver, shop owner or whatever.

I do not disagree with anything you said. But that is only one side of the story, albeit perhaps the dominant part of the story. Each of us, you and me, is a human being, and a man. And each of these cuties is also a human, and female. And while your point is well taken, it is possible to connect with these little ladies on a human level as well. In my limited (and flawed) experience, I have tried to keep in mind that the relationship is first and foremost an economic one. Once that is instilled in my mind, I am free to connect with "my" cutie of the moment in a personal way, to the extent that is possible, and enjoy the encounter all the more.
While we should never let our guard down completely (or at all) I believe it is possible to have some genuine laughs and moments of tenderness, in exchange for our cold hard cash.

I have no idea why I got highlighted in your addressee list, as I'm quite aware of the situation here. When I refer to 'my cutie' it is a convenience to avoid being a poser by referring to 'the cutie.' In fact, unlike you, I would not reimburse a cutie for money she gave to her countrymen that I did not approve; I don't consider this gentlemanly, only suckerly. You would do well to heed your own advice :)
Also, since you bothered to bring me into the discussion, your view is too naive. It is certainly one, and as LJohnson said, "the dominant," reality amongst the girls. However, as with all stereotypes, it is too simplified and myopic. I have known several Thai girls who, while not necessarily looking out for my interests, find the baht bus drivers, taxistos, mopeders, etc. repugnant. In fact, it was on my second trip to Thailand that a particular girl (that I kept around for a few days) decided that she would act as my personal negotiator and ensure I got proper prices. I would bargain someone down as far as I thought I could, and she would then take over and harpy him into a lower price yet.

Cobra Gold which happens every year in May is not the Navy coming to Pattaya, the ships do not come into Pattaya Bay. The exercise is a joint effort mainly between the United States and Thailand. A few other countries are also involved each year. While a major part of the game is done by the Navy it is not just a Navel exercise, most years most of the US troops are Marines.
It is a working exercise and not shore leave or RR so the troops can only play during off or sleep time which is only a few hours each day. While Walking Street and Pattayaland do see the impact of this the rest of Pattaya stays fairly slow. And because it is low season there is always lots of room.
Hotels in general don't change prices, bar fines stay more or less the same, and the Baht Bus drivers still try to steal everything they can. It is still much slower in the clubs then during the December January high season.
The only time this changes is when a carrier group comes into the port of Pattaya. But that has not happen for almost two years and is not planned for this year. The ships when on R &R stay south of Pattaya at the Thai Navel base now.
I would not cancel or change a trip to Pattaya because of Cobra Gold, it really has very little overall impact.

Don't always believe what you read, and remember if you are dealing with things in Thailand and reading information in English, the information the Thais want you to have, but that does not mean it is true or correct. Anytime you really want to know what is going on you must read the Thai version and that means being able to read and understand Thai.
The fare for baht bus service in Pattaya is 5 baht, the fare Pattaya to Naklua is 10 baht, it is really simple. If you read the regulations in Thai that is what it says. Also interesting to note only one fare for both Thais and tourist. If you asked a Thai in Thai they will tell you the same thing. If you want to overpay that is your choice.

Strangely, some of the NICEST people I ever met were a dozen or so completely drunk US Marines in a bar in Pattaya during CobraGold three (four?) years ago...
Like I said before, Korat will be affected most by the many, many planes that come flying over the town breaking the sound barrier.

I'm a long time supporter of the military and spent my time in the service. VERY few trouble makers, the vast majority are good guys and gals who do their level best to be good ambassadors of good will. From my travels the trouble makers are usually college guys who are unhappy with their lives and take it out by being loud and obnoxious.

When I say 'my cutie' I don't mean 'my girlfriend' or 'my loved one', I mean the cutie that I have recruited to satisfy mi sexual needs on that night at the standard price of B 500 ST or B 1,000 LT (N.B. Please never overpay, if you like to overpay go to Bangkok, don't spoil Pattaya).

In Farangland to score with a cutie you need to take her out, talk about BS, dine her, wine her, talk about more BS and at the end of the night, if you are lucky, you will be able to take the cutie home. In Pattaya you don't need all that: you only need a B1,000 note. Much easier.
A Thai cutie usually lasts 1 night unless her looks, attitude and performance are well above average, in which case they can last up to 2 nights. In the same way if they underperform they won't go beyond a ST.

Once again many of you are getting your tits in a ringer from a few posters who are not providing the best info. The military men and women who come to Pattaya stay in the nicer hotels now. Last year there was a whole bunch of them staying at the Hard Rock Hotel. SA was still able to get into the hotel with no problem. So, for you cheapos, the 400 baht humping dens will be plenty. Dont worry about all of this nonsense posted by several people who feel that getting a room will be tough.
Furthermore, Sex Review how in the world can you say that Pattaya has the most prostitutes in Thailand? Man, Bangkok dwarfs Pattaya. Maybe you should say, "the most prostitutes by the sea."
There will always be more hookers then men in Thailand, even if you bring in 5000 service men, there is always enuff. Let SA also add, that most of these military folk just like to drink. They arnt sex addicts who cherish there little Pattaya rice ho.

You right with the overpay I come back 1 week ago after a 1 mont stay. I had a girl for now over 2 year there, she was even in this time 3 times in my country. She told me and I have belive after 2 years she love me she want merry my ( yeah not LOL to much ) so I went like I told you now for 1 month to make everything ready and to merry. I was on the Music festival too and like every year FULL FULL FULL you are faster on you feet then with a taxi. And whatch out for pocket thiefs. My luck I take only 200B when I go to something like this. Then I have watch the aniversy of Tiffany and Alcasar ( like always the Tiffany is better )
So now we come to Soukran I have stay this time in Jomtien because I hate the ICED watter. And I dont know why in Jomtien is have make more fun.
But only the 1st and the last day. Between 11-18 Jomtien is not so much soukran, so I want to my favorit bar in soi 8 but there I stay usualy only 1-2h because of the ice watter.
Then something privat not go to ICE CAFE BERLIN near walking street ( when you go the beach road up and you turn left it is on the left side ) the boss is a old german fart and not very frieandly I was close to a fight with him.
So and now something about a Oil massage. I have went to the BANBOO massage on the opposite site of the Ice Cafe Berlin, to get a oil massage like always 2h, on the last 20min the girls change from normal massage to body massage you get a BJ or a hand job.
If someone had a similar fun in a other PHYISCAL MASSAGE let me know.
And for last right now there is a lot of police and special police ( not mean MP ) there looking for some dynamite which had been stolen few months ago. So be carefull.

Still, I enjoy reading about other people's adventures. If "Fawn" posts, and you don't believe it, let it go and read on. Why cause upsetment on the board by challenging each other?
The exchange of information that we always enjoy isn't helped by fighting each other about who is right. Jackson isn't operating an honesty detector - we are free to believe anything or anybody that we read. If we doubt something, what is accomplished by calling someone else a liar, and who would benefit from that? Correcting an error of fact would be one thing, but to dismiss another subscriber outright because it doesn't fit with a preconceived notion isn't.
This board would be more significant if it weren't peopled by folk who disbelieve and challenge other accounts.
Get a real life, people.

I have no problem at all if FawnThe Guyver is a forum member pretending to be someone else. My suspicions are not meant as an attack or even a criticism. On the contrary; I think it's pretty cool. He tries to get by with it; we fall for it for a while and then we begin to get suspicious; and I broadcast my suspicions. It's a game.
I agree that the attacks on each other are wearisome and unproductive. I should know, having been on the receiving end a number of times (some of which were justified.) But this is just an observation and I could be wrong. I'm just asking the rest of you what you think. And I admit I am completely off the proper subject of men looking for women, but Jackson cuts us slack on this stuff and, if it gets out of hand, he lets us know.
I honestly don't remember who always signed "Have fun." I think maybe it was The Traveler. Some of you will remember better than I. The Fawnthe Guyver style just seems a little too contrived, or over the top, to be a genuine effort by someone whose first language is not English. Then, when he PM'd me and signed "Have fun" I decided to ask the rest of you your opinion.
And now, his latest post seems to be an admission that he is an impostor. At least that's how I read it.
To Badass: It's not a big deal at all. Just an observation; and a curiosity, to me anyway.

I just did a quick review and it was The Traveler who signed "Have fun." So I am proposing that The Traveler and FawnThe Guyver are one and the same.

This is a modified version of the report I posted on the Angeles board previously. It has been expanded with the new keywords: "opening hours" "drink costs" "cherry girls" "katoeys (to avoid)".
Basically it is a short comparison of the scenes in Pattaya and Angeles City as I have received some private messages inquiring about the subject. I try to post it at both boards (not sure if it is allowed) as I think there is some interest about this kind of info.

Accomodation:
In Pattaya there is a huge variety of good value accomodation for all budgets. Centrally located, reasonable rooms are 500-1000 baht. Usually there is no need to prebook.
In Angeles the accomodation can be scarce at peak times>see "Best time to go"
However most hotels accept bookings by email without deposit. Since it's a sellers market, rooms are often unreasonably expensive and lower in quality than in Pattaya. It's worth to look around once you are there, to find something better value.

The typical Pattaya beer-bar is open-air with a central bar area and stools around the bar for customers/staff. Clothing of staff is rather casual. Go-go bars are always in-door with air-conditioning and dancers wearing bikinis. There used to be naked/topless dancing in Thailand however it has recently been discontinued. If you know a place where it is still present, don't publish it here please but keep the secret for yourself so that it may survive. Thank you. In Angeles go-go bars the dancing is always strictly in bikinis however some special treats can be obtained by private arrangement, occasionally.
In Pattaya go-go bars the girls often wear numbers pinned to their dresses and this can make choosing easier. In Angeles they don't have numbers but each carry an ID card with their name and date of birth.

Best time to go:
The holiday season of dec/jan can be very crowded in both locations. Quietest times are may/june and oct/nov. The weather is not so much of an issue as you will be mostly indoors if you are reading this.

Booze:
In Pattaya the beer is reasonably cheap and of good quality. Locally produced whisky and rum are even cheaper and are passable. It is feasible to get drunk for around two dollars.
In Angeles the beer is dirt-cheap and of excellent quality. Local rum is cheaper still and is of very high quality (my opinion). In fact, often your mixer will cost more than the spirits. Very easy to get drunk for under a dollar.

Cherry-girls:
Essentially the term is a Philippines phenomena, meaning "virgin". They can be even in their twenties. Or it may also mean that she doesn't want to boom-boom you. Simply put, cherry girls do not fuck but they can be barfined and give blowjobs. To take a girl's cherry expect to pay 30-50 thousand pesos. Some girls say they are "cherry-arsed" and they may even charge you extra for taking that cherry. In Thailand I haven't heard of the equivalent. If a girl works for a bar then she is available. Also, Thai girls tend to lose their virginity much-much younger then Philippinas.

Climate:
Both countries are hot, tropical although Thailand seems to be hotter most for the year. There are significant rainfalls in the wet seasons although this really doesn't affect much the "Industry."

Costs:
Cost of food/accomodation is cheaper in Pattaya however sex tends to be more expensive for same quality. Cost of sex in Pattaya is very unregulated. You have to negotiate hard. In Angeles hotels cost more but the cost of entertainment is fixed 1000 peso per night per girl, any girl. This effectively cuts out the negotiation process which many guys prefer.

Dangers/Annoyances:
Pattaya in the main areas is relatively safe to walk around at any hour of the day or night. Freelancer ladies from the beach area can be tricky, so use caution. Most hotels provide safety boxes for passport/cash. Most of the legitimate businesses are reasonably honest. Generally it's a very safe city.
In Angeles and most of the Philippines you will notice the very visible presence of firearms everywhere. More caution is required as the poverty is greater than in Thailand. The main street of Balibago should be reasonably safe day or night. Philippinos are friendly but if someone appears too friendly for no aparent reason then just move on, don't go with them wherever they might invite you.

Drink costs:
A soft drink in a Pattaya beer-bar costs 30-40 baht. Beer Chang 40-60 baht and Heineken 60-80 baht. Gogo bars charge more, often the same price for soft drink or beer (around 100 baht). Draft beer is often the cheapest 50-60 baht even in gogos.In early hours of the night drink specials are often offered. Lady drinks are usually near 100 baht.
Angeles bars usually also have happy hours when soft drinks and beer cost around 35-40 pesos. After 9pm or so you will pay 65 pesos for a beer and around 50 for cola.

Food:
Thai food is generally spicy and delicious while Filipino food tend to be more bland. However international cousine is widely available both in Pattaya and Angeles.

Getting there:
To Pattaya by bus from Bangkok (90 baht), or by taxi (800-1200 baht),two hours.
To Angeles/Balibago by public bus from Manila (80-100 peso), by private bus of the Swagman Hotel (350 peso) or by taxi (1000-1600 peso), two hours.

GIRLS:
Very similar in appearance in both countries.
Age: In Pattaya 23-45 years mostly. In Angeles a bit more young 18-35. Always, very strictly over 18 years. But check ID cards, just in case.
Attitude: A lot of guys say that Filipinas tend to be more affectionate. This can very I guess. There are a lot of very affectionate Thai women too. Even though they are prostitutes, you will have to put more effort in to picking up a good looking Filipina from an Angeles bar than it would take in Pattaya. You not only choose, you are also chosen.
build/size: Both nationals are generally petite with small breasts. Of course there are exceptions.
Hair/bodyhair: Long black hair is typical while an increasing number of ladies tend to dye their hair to any shade of brown to blonde. It's more common in Angeles for the girls to shave all their bodily hair. The result is just gorgeous.
Sex: Many guys state that generally Thais are hotter in bed. That might actually be so. However Filippinas tend to be more shameless in their actions, once they are relaxed. In Angeles you will be likely to get more kisses and cuddles and less head as a rule.
Skin: Any shade of brown, from nearly white to nearly black.

While there is no visible transvestite activity in Angeles, they are plentiful in Pattaya and can be mistaken for real women. In most cases barfines are not refundable, so be careful. If in doubt, you could just simply ask (politely). Or ask the mamasan.

Language:
In Pattaya the Thai language. It has a different script from English and is altogether difficult to learn, although you will quickly pick up a few words. In whole of Thailand apart from entertainment areas, English is seldom understood or used. Even those who speak it will have difficulty understanding a complicated concept that is out of the basic everyday issues.
In Angeles and the whole of the Philippines, English language is widely understood and used. Most people speak it very well. It's unnecessary to learn the local Tagalog / Pilipino language, although it might have some advantages.

Location&Setting:
Pattaya is two hours drive from Bangkok the capital of Thailand. It's essentially a beach resort town with a large percentage of regular tourists. The beach is not that great though in the main town area. The "Industry" is mainly concentrated to South Pattaya but even then it's a huge area with a massive number of bars and entertainers. At times because of the number of tourists this area of town can become extremely crowded and depressing.
Angeles City is located inland, again two hours drive from Manila the capital of Philippines. There are no regular tourist attractions or tourist shopping areas. Balibago, the main bar area is basically one street with a few small side avenues. There is a welcome absence of regular/shopping tourism and therefore peace reigns over the town most of the year. The whole entertainment area is very small when compared to Pattaya (however, very active).

Money:
In Pattaya, Thai Baht (THB) presently approx 39baht/$. A large number of money changers day/night. Travellers cheques accepted. Lots of ATMs. Credit cards may or may not attract surcharge.
In Angeles, Philippine Peso (PPS) approx 55peso/$. Money changers open during the day. Travellers cheques are generally NOT accepted. Some ATMs. Credit cards attract 7.5-10% surcharge.

Music (in bars):
Generally, recorded mainstream disco music with some bars playing rock of various heavyness in both countries. As a rule the music in most Thai bars is much louder, effectively preventing any intelligent conversation. In Angeles bars the volume of music seems to be a couple of grades lower, therefore there is much more interaction between staff and clients.

Opening hours (entertainment venues):
In Pattaya many beer bars are open 24/7 especially on Walking Street and Soi 8. Music is turned off after 2am or so. Most beer-bars open around 4pm and are fully staffed by 7 or 8pm. Some gogo bars open at 1pm, 4pm but most at 7 or 8pm. Discos get into full swing only after midnight. In Angeles a couple of bars open at 11am or 12 noon. A few more at 4pm and the rest at 6, 7 or 8pm. One open air beer-bar is open 24/7 but is only staffed by one little girl in quiet times.

People:
Pattaya's Thai population has thoroughly intermixed with the tourists/expats while still keeping many of their traditional customs/values. Thailand is a Buddhist country and as such somewhat more of an exotic nature for the western tourist. Generally the locals are very friendly folk. There is also a significant expat presence, who own a large number of entertainment venues.
In Angeles the situation is more transient. In my opinion there is less interaction with the locals and foreigners seem to keep their activities to the small entertainment area.The expat population is much smaller, although they own most of the bars. Filipinos are also very friendly folk, perhaps sometimes more genuinely so than Thais. The local religion is Christian Catholic and as such general mentality stands somewhat closer to what we are used to.

Men/Clientele:
In Pattaya there is a large percentage of young, yobbos visiting the bars while the older gentlemen are of course also present. In Angeles it's mainly the older folks, so the pace is generally slower and more peaceful. There is a wider variety of different races visiting Pattaya bars, while in Angeles it's mainly the typical westerner with a very few Japanese. Local men are also known to frequent bars in foreigner entertainment areas in both countries although not in significant numbers. There are also a number of western women sex-tourists that can be observed in both towns, from time to time.

Ringing the Bell:
In Pattaya if you ring the bell at any bar normally you would have to buy a drink for all the staff, sometimes the customers as well. The cost can vary as such. In Angeles the fee for ringing the bell is fixe and different at each bar. The bill can range from 2500 to 5000 pesos or so.

Traffic:
Pattaya has a very large number of vehicles and lots of crazy drivers mostly on motorbikes. Philippinos by comparison are gentle and docile on the road. There is also a very welcome absence of motorbikes. In the Philippines they drive on the right side of the road while in Thailand on the wrong side.

Transport:
Local transport in Pattaya by minibus, flat fare 5 baht within the main bay area. Motorcycle taxis 20-50 baht within South/North Pattaya area. In Angeles a motorised tricycle will take you almost anywhere for 50 peso or less. Frequent jeepneys run along Fields Ave. for 4 pesos.

Venues: In Pattaya the very large number of open air beer-bars dominate with some go-go bars and several discos. There is a huge selection of SW along the beach and on Walking Street at all times of the day but mostly at night. In Angeles it's almost exclusively in-door go-go type of bars with two discos and a couple of beer-bar type places. SW are present only at certain limited areas (mostly A. Santos Street).

I am back and all I can say is someone please come wipe this grin off my face. I can now see why Thailand is so great. I wound up staying at the Penthouse for the two weeks. It wasn't a bad place. There was one or two cockroaches but no problem for me. I know I am going to get some harassing about this, but I basicly stayed with one bar and one girl the entire time. When I walked into the Classroom, I knew it was my type of place. I am not big into the really dark bars. The Classroom was nice and bright. The ladies were great. I ended up spending the two weeks with this nice girl Dang. For me, she was just right. She spoke ok english, didn't hit me up for alot of cash over the two weeks, and basicly was my tour guide. I went with a couple of the others at the Classroom too (#87, Nat was particularly wonderful.)
I know this is a short report, but I'm not use to doing them. There is also the fact I was having too much fun to really pay attention to little details like making a report.
In eight weeks, I am definately going back.

Weekender hotel North Pattaya has bungalows for 1000 baht per night, plus 2 swimming pools.
Welcome plaza has rooms for 500 baht per night just opposite Pattaya land.
Soi baukhaoi near soi Diana in have hotels with air con etc from 250baht per night, many hotels and guest houses there.

I adopted Residence Garden Suites as my accomodation when I'm in Pattaya, I've found it to be a very good value for 1350. Two rooms, 2 TVs, friendly staff, in-room safe, no joiner fee, balcony, cable tv with plenty of english channels. It's about a 15 minute walk from Walking Street, but the baht bus is always available. Breakfast is not included in room price, however.
Other places I've stayed include:
Baiyoke, less expensive than Residence, better location, guest friendly, small pool. About 800.
Siam Bayview, large grounds, nice pool, good place for about 2500, but they hit you with an 800 joiner fee so I don't stay there anymore.
Penthouse Hotel, stayed in one of their party suites with jacuzzi, dance podium, love swing, stereo system. Jacuzzi was nice, but I really though the place was overpriced for 2600. Others complain about roaches in the less expensive rooms.

Ok Freeler, here is some information I can pass on.
First on the Penthouse, I initially found it from reading the forum and doing a website search. One suggestion I will give is make reservations. As I asked them at the desk, they had no rooms available till later in the afternoon. The room I was able to have was one of the larger suites. It was 72$ US, way expensive but it was only for a night or two. The room itself was a little much for me. While I loved the tub, there wasn't enough for me personally in the room for that price. The room they moved me to was smaller but better for my tastes. 28$ instead of 72$ is definately easier on the pocket. The location was great with plenty of action right on your doorstep.
How I got there is a little embarassing. I got the airport con. As I was walking towards the area where the taxi would be, a Thai lady in an official looking uniform waved me over to a counter. This being my first time really on my own in another country, I thought maybe it was something important. By the time I got my head on straight, I was in a 1800 Baht taxi to Pattaya. While it wasn't bad, I just know that it was way too much. Next time, I will know much better.
For me, one of the worst things was the second night. I had for LT two ladies from the Classroom and I really liked being around them both. The problem came from one speaking English fairly well while the other was more limited. By the end of the night, misunderstandings began to rise and I really didn't want to deal with it. Eventually, it worked out but it was still a headache. I have a good heart, not ment as a pun. I do like being nice and avoid situations like that. The main thing I learned was it is easy to want to fall for these girls, but it is business. If you treat them like you would a girlfriend, the ladies will treat you like gold. The one lady that I did stay with was happy with a few small items and food. I paid the barfine for the two weeks, 600 baht a night, and that was it.
Did I want to fall in love? Hell yes I did but I slapped my head in reminder that the next day that I left, she would be back at the Classroom working.
I know I am rambling on, but I hope in all this that I helped pass on some helpful information.

Just got back from Pattaya. Stayed at Dynasty Inn on Soy 13. Brand new hotel, Less than a year old. Good location, friendly staff, and free one way transfer from their hotel in Bangkok.
990 Bath/night.
Only minus is the pool wich looks more like an oversize bathtub. Not a problem for me since I rather spend the afternoons touring the beerbars.

I saw a few posts where other members expressed their suspicion that I might post under a different ID.
Why should I use a different one ? Is there any advantage by doing so ? I see none.
Compare writing styles, attitude and other things rather than just pointing out that someone else used the same phrase "Have fun" I used from time to time.
To clarify things :
I would and will never use a different ID than the one I use right now. If I feel that I have to say something to someone I will do so by using my ID "The Traveler".
Hope that ends any discussion regarding that issue.
It's been awhile since I have been to Thailand in general, and Pattaya in particular. What do you all pay the lady's per day if you keep them for a few days or whatever. Besides the ocassional shoes - dresses - purse's or whatever? I guess that the price you may negotiate for a ST or LT would be a starting point as to what one may expect?

I give usualy 1000 for LT and ST is negotiate like you have say but you can think about 500.

500 ST and 1000 LT for the bargirls and the barfine is usually 200-300 baht. 1000 ST and 2000 LT for the gogo girls, the barfines are 500-600 baht. Freelancers are a little different, obviously there is no barfine and never pay more than 500 ST and 1000 LT. Soapies are a little more expensive, I've only had two but I think the barfine is 600 baht for a short time body to body massage and sex, they provide the room. I paid 2000 baht both times, those girls are hot, most people only go once a trip, they are alot of fun.
Also when you are in the bars you might be required to buy a "Lady Drink", the girl gets a comission from each drink she sells, i think they make 20 baht commission.
If I have a girl for a few days, I normally pay 1000 a day, plus anything I buy for her and food. I stick to beerbar girls, there are alot of hot ones out there.

KJ Vegas is right, 500 for beer bar st, 1000 for long time, in the gogo 1000 short time and 2k long time AT MOST. In Pattaya if you have the ugly/old/stinkin beer belly syndromes then you can add to those figures. Personally I have never paid over 1500 long time from a pattaya gogo girl and have hit some pretty impressive ones. I may be slightly behind the times though because I have not paid a barfine in a gogo in about a year. That shit is for the birds (and the rich). Some of these places are asking 600 baht barfines now. These fools are asking for too much these days. I hit Marine one, two and Tonys or sometimes a beer bar girl.
Scampy, I paid 500 per night at the Sunshine a year ago and got a deal for paying a week in advance, something like 450 per night. Now I heard they renovated but unless they did some real tight shit, I would not give em over 600. For 800 you can just stay at the Flipper which is a great hotel for the price. I have also stayed at the Haven on soi 13/1 but now I hear way overpriced for the money (990) per night. When I stayed it was 850 and I thought I got a decent deal but it was my first trip. Buakhow is the way if you are on a tight budget, I have found some seriously nice hotels for 400 a night if paid by the week (aircon, cable 20 inch etc). Stop using those travel agents, hit the front desk and bargain hard!

Y' all,
I arrived in Pattaya last Sunday and found the town in a low season state: hotel prices are down already, floors are shut down in some cases and there is a large number of humans of the female kind that get far too little attention.
Take advantage while you can!
Some barowners apparently don't see this and still try to sell softdrinks for B50 and ask B300 barfines, encourraging the girls not to go under B1000 LT. They must be kidding.
Withing 2 hours of arriving I helped myself to a 28 yo from Chantaburi. She took me to ST place new to me, opposite Soi13, two doors down from the Apex hotel. The Chinese rooms go for B100 an hour or B 200 for the night. Darling forgot-her-name didn't mind dt-ing me but refused any kind of kissing. OK. That's cool with me, since her efforts and capabilities in the other fields were quite remarkable. she well deserved the B300and wai-ed to confirm her happiness.
That night my new found love C turned up in my hotel. I really thought she woudn't, so the back-up plan was in place. The lady with the huge knockers and the previously horrible attitude -Muffdriver, you know who - promised to fill in the gap if C turned out a no show. But as things turned out, I was stuck with C for two nights. I didn't mind at all: We are soooo in love!
Anyway, what goes in the bedroom of real lovers is none of your business, so the story continues on tuesday. C left for her home in BKK to start working and I was left to stroll along Beachroad, hoping to land a cutie of some sort. The cutie wasn't too cute but 40yo and a widow. Her English hubby drank himself to death over Songkran and eventho he left her a house and a motorbike, she needed to fill her purse. So I took her to the ST place opposite Soi13 and there she did all the thing needed for a huge fukken nut on her face. Perhaps I will post a shot of that gooed up face one day, but I'm afraid I will have to be in a particular nasty mood to do so...

You have to understand that the market in Thailand is stratified in such a way that the various classes of punters and their respective providers rarely mix. As a consequence, you pay the market price for that particular segment, irrespective of where you are from.
There are exceptions to the rule, such as the Farang/Japanese surcharge in many massage parlors (500 baht at Poseidon for example). If memory serves me well, there is a sign in Mandarin next to the fishbowl that says "if you can read this, the price for you is x" ...

Where to find good women with consistent performance?
There are three gems in Pattaya:
1. Soi Yoksad (soi 6) where all you have to do is walk along the street lined on both sides with hookers and take your pick. Hello everyone! About four months ago, I was here learning about LOS, found some outstanding info, and was very close to booking my vaction, but at the last minute I decided to go to the Dominican Republic instead. By the time I included all the travel time to LOS, I hardly had any time for smiles on my one week trip! It was also a lot more expensive for airfare. Even in markets, when an asian asks for the price in Thai, they will almost always be quoted a lower starting price than a white man. traffic: it is reported that there were over 300 people killed on motor bikes in pattaya last year. cars and bikes will travel both ways on a one way street so watch out. and a lot of young men on holiday here think they should rent a 750cc or more when they don't know how to ride it. rent a scouter if you must 100/150 baht a day and be careful. the cops have been coming into some bars and night clubs lately making patrons and staff [CodeWord134] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord134) into a bottle. if you are on anything you are going to jail for the night with a small fine at best. also carry a copy of your passport front page along with a copy of your visa and entry card as they will get 1000 to 2000 baht from you for not having it on you.

Had a short trip to LOS last month. Here's a quick report. Not much new information, but hopefully it will help.
Week of May 20th, 2004
Cobra Gold is in Town
Weather was not great. Rained two out of three days. There were a few US military roaming around, most prominently on Walking Street, due to the Cobra Gold exercises, but Pattaya was certainly not overrun by the US military at all though. Still an incredibly great girl to man ratio, from a man’s point of view. While I am no fan current US foreign policy, I have no complaints about the US military guys I encountered last week. They were probably at least as well behaved, if not better behaved, than your average Pattaya sleazy old guy. So Cobra Gold is nothing to worry about—plenty of girls to go around and no extra trouble.
Sunbeam Hotel, Soi 8 through Planet Holiday.
Stayed at the Sunbeam Hotel. Booked on the Net through Planet Holiday, which subscribes to Precision Reservations, a travel wholesaler in Thailand. I’ve booked through them several times, and found their Instant Message service very convenient since they can usually tell you immediately whether a room is available. Rooms were about 1000 baht, large, sparse, and other than the moldy shower curtain, reasonably clean. Located in the middle of the beer bars in between Soi 7 and 8. Overall, the beer bars on Soi 7 are basically shacks.
Sunrise Hotel on Soi 8
Previously I had stayed at the Sunrise Hotel, basically across from the Sunbeam Hotel on Soi 8. I found the rooms smaller, dirtier, and the building less secure since the stairway and elevator was accessible from outside. Price was the same as the Sunbeam, so I would definitely go with the Sunbeam out of the two.
Soi 7, 8 Beer Bars and Girls
The Soi 7 beer bars are mostly rattan shacks with dark lighting. I thought the girls were not so great. The Soi 8 beer bars are in a little more permanent buildings, and I thought the girls were overall more attractive. Girls are generally happy with 500 baht for ST and 1000 for LT. Drinks are cheap, and girls are friendly. Not a lot of pressure on buying a lot of drinks.
Iyu at Sexy Bar 2 in the center of Soi 8 had great tits. She was dancing with a very open white top that displayed her large nipples very clearly. She seemed to be part black,and was short but not petite. She was an incredible fuck. I took her with her friend, and she forced her **** into my face. The only problem was that her blowjob was a too much teeth. I had to make her stop because we was going to draw blood, not a good idea for a BBBJ.
I also found the beer bar on the corner directly across from the Sunshine Hotel and near the Sunbeam hotel very friendly. Da is a cutey. That’s still only five bucks or Euros, but it’s more than you usually pay in Pattaya. Still, the place has a few gorgeous freelancers. There were plenty of girls dancing there who I would have loved to fuck. Finally ended up with a little cutey named Ann, who had some very well done implants that looked great on her petite body. 1000 baht for the night.
Hard Rock Café
Ann said she sometimes goes to the Hardrock Café so I checked it out the next night. If the night I went there is any indication, don’t even bother dropping by. It seems basically a restaurant with a live band and a small bar area with less than 10 girls and expensive drinks. I went there early, and they probably clear the table out later in the evening to make a dance floor, but at 10pm it was Denny’s with a band.

If you want to travel from BKK airport to Pattaya while seing some of Bangkok and saving some Bhat here is my recommendation.
From BKK airport near the taxi stand take the A3 Bus to the Ekami Bus Statation. 100 Bhat is the cost. You can save about 1/2 hour of time by getting off the bus at Nana and taking the BTS train to Ekami for 40 Bhat The trip on the BTS saves some time due to congestion in downtown Bangkok. The Airport Busses are for tourist. They are modern with A/C with an interior area for luggage.
Next take an A/C Bus with reserved seats from Ekami to Pattaya. The cost is 90 Bhat. These buses leave every 20 minutes to Pattaya. There is no overcrowding and reserved seats with no standing which in mind is much better than a minibus. The trip will take 2 hours which is as fast as taxi or minibus. The A/C bus uses the overhead highway which you will have to pay an additional toll if you use a taxi. These buses allow for luggage storage in its cargo hold. If it rains your luggage won't get wet unlike mini busses that may strap your luggage on the roof of the bus.
Take taxi from Pattaya Bus Station to Pattaya Beach area for 20 Bhat and you're there. Expect a 15 minute delay here.
The total cost is 210 Bhat. The BTS short cut costs 40 Bhat more which is optional. At Nana and the Ekami bus station you can buy food and drinks/water which is plus. If you chose to do so you can stop at NEP and have a beer and mingle before heading to Pattaya.
Keep in mind that the Airport Buses stop running at midnight as well as the buses leaving for the Ekmai bus station which may stop running around that time too.

Forget all of this bus trip stuff to Pattaya from the airport connecting here, bus there, transfer here. Here is the way to do Pattaya from the airport. If you can shell out about between 1200 and 1400 baht take a taxi all the way there. The taxis from the airport will use the outer ring highway which will bypass the whole city. When you bargain with the taxi driver tell him the fee includes all gas and all tolls. The total tolls using the outerring round will cost about 150 baht. You will get to Pattaya in about 2 hours and 15 minutes and sit in comfort.
If you want to do by bus then you need to take taxi to mo chit which is about 100 baht and about 30 minutes on a good day. Then you might have to wait for the next bus to Pattaya which might be a half hour or so. Then you will be herded onto a bus and be sitting in a very tight seat. The trip to Pattaya from mo chit will be in excess of 3 hours for sure.
It makes absolutley no sense to go all the way to Ekamai from the airport to get a bus to Pattaya. Mo Chit has then every 30 minutes and is about an hour closer.
If you absoultely must have Pattaya pussy (if Luke Wanker could define the difference in quality between Pattaya and Bangkok pussy SA would appreciate it, otherwise he sounds silly, cause pussy is pussy) as Luke Wanker wrote, then quit worrying about saving a few dollars and get a taxi from the airport to Pattaya.
So yea, you might save 800 or so baht in cost but you need to compare that with time and the shleping of your luggage all over the city to sit your ass on some 3hour+ plus overcrowded bus trip. SA's choice is to take the taxi and sit in comfort. Hell, you just have been sitting for a day on a plane hopefully an extra 1000 baht wont break you. If you are worry about $20 then maybe you should have stayed home!

If you are ready to shell out that amount, you can call the Nana hotel limo service. They will gladly pick you up at the airport and take you all the way to Pattaya for 1500 bath.
I always go to Pattaya using the Nana limo. I've tried the shitty bus. Forget it. I've tried the mini-bus. Forget it.
Bangkok taxi will do, but Nana limo is comfortable. And makes the trip to Pattaya a real pleasant experience that you don't want to miss in the future.
Nana limo is better than any taxi, cos they have bigger cars, softer ride, more spacey, and enough trunk space to put your luggage in the trunk and not in the back seat. forcing you to sit in the front.
And much more legroom.
It's much more relaxing and if you ask for Witthaya, he's the guy with the best-maintained, reliable car. Plus he speaks good English and is a very experienced, good, reliable driver (not all of the others are!).
For years I've been going with Witthaya, whether to Pattaya or Buri Ram or the airport. If he is busy, he will send a friend (not from Nana, but from outside) with an even better car (Khun Somboon with a brand-new big red Honda).
I can vouch for Witthaya. You go with him once, you'll always go with him,. cos you'll feel you've got a friend.

PS. I think he has two cars now, so he may ask you which one you prefer. One of them costs 300 bath more, cos it's got a souped up engine and consumes a lot more gas.

You are an old friend, so I will give this one more try....
Bangkok is a very large town and Ekamai is roughly in the SE part of the city, down on Sukhumvit.
MoChit2 busstation is North of the city-centre.
The airport is roughly North of Mochit2 busstation.
Mo Chit busstation is an AWFUL lot closer to the airport than Ekamai.
Therefor: If you stay on Sukhumvit you of course want to catch the bus for Pattaya from Ekamai.
But: If you come from the North (airport...) you want to take a bus from MoChit2.
Also: The busride from MoChit2 is usualy SHORTER than the trip from Ekamai! Why? The bus from MoChit2 hits the elevated motorway within minutes.
The bus from Ekamai usualy gets caught in traffic within minutes.
Then there is the MYTH about the motorway bus from MoChit2 to Pattaya - it is supposed to be faster than the 'normal' bus. This myth is a myth and TOTALLY UNTRUE and UTTER BS!!!
The normal bus is faster because it stays on the elevated motorway longer than the 'motorway' bus.
Another myth is that MoChit is the Northern busterminal as in: only busses to the North.
Again this is totally untrue.
MoChit2 is the departure point for buses to the entire North, North-East and most of the South-East (EasternSeaboard) of Thailand.
Regarding the South-East (EasternSeaboard) buses depart for:
Pattaya, Chonburi, Rayong and also NakhonNayok.
My bad. I was confussing Mo Chit with On Nut.
I always use a private car anyway. I was asking for the board.

Free - Seattle, San Fran, or Los Angeles to Tokyo on NWA, then to BKK takes about 20 hours clock time. The return is a bit faster - only about 19 or so (depending on destination) - less time on the ground at NRT. The major problem with arrival at BKK on NWA is that it is at 23:45 local (pretty difficult to get trans to P'ya other than cab - or the alternative ride to Morchit and wait for the "express bus" passing thru on the way to Rayong (arrival P'ya about 05:30 or so) and the departure is 06:00 or so (cab is the only option from P'ya at that time of night and rooms in BKK are a LOT more money that in P'ya)

Another way of explaining it is simply this -- after long hours on airplanes, which can be very tiring, what many folks basically want to do is simply to be done with traveling for a while in the most expedient way. If that's to grab a taxi or a limo and just get there in peace as opposed to saving some baht by taking a bus to catch another bus, where you can experience another couple periods of being packed like a sardine, then so be it.
People react differently to air travel. I don't think anyone would argue that, say, chartering a limo to go from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai or from Sukothai to Pilok as opposed to using the bus would be a big waste not only of the money but of experiencing LOS, but coming off a plane, tired, in a new country and wanting to just get to where you're staying quickly and relax a bit is a different set of circumstances.

pattaya is great, you can find everything. I prefear look for pretty girls at disco. I can speak enough Thai language and this help me also for the price. I go to disco Marine and Tony's and sometimes Hollywood and I wait always than disco close. This is the best moment. Or just I walk after walking street near to the beach. For the Bus info on Mo Chit to Pattaya. My last trip to Pattaya was from Phuket so I didn't feel the need to rush right down to Pattaya to save an hour since I already been in Thailand for two weeks.
Most north american carriers (i.e United, NWA) arrive in Bangkok near 11 pm to midnight. Getting through immigration and customs can be upto an hour depending on mix of plane arrivals at BKK.
When I arrive around midnight, I never take a taxi to Pattaya that night or early morning. I take a taxi to NEP and check into a hotel and by 1:30 to 2 am out in Nana either at Beer bar or Gogo bar. I've kept cell phone numbers of some freelancers in BKKs so I have some backup options. In the past I've had good luck just snapping a girl from the Nana parking near 2 am. By 2:15 am, I have all but forgotten about the 22 hour flight from SFO to BKK. There is no better remedy for jet lag than a Thai girl in the sack. I awake refreshed in the morning, pack my bags. If I want to Pattaya the next day I just catch the bus from Ekamai via BTS.

But (IMHO) over the past decade Pattaya seems to have cleaned up a bit while Phuket is in a rapid spiral downward. Phuket still has superior beaches and great diving, but beyond that, might as well save the time and money and head for Pattaya. For mongering, Pattaya is a much better bet.

There are many things to do in Pattaya besides mongering.
Pattaya offers a wide range of very good restaurants (thai, korean, japanese, european) and lots of sport activities like bowling, snooker, parasailing, waterski, jetski, scuba, go-kart, golf and so on. You can also do a boat tour to Koh Larn or visit Noong Nooch, Khao Kiau, Tiger Zoo, Mini Siam, Wat Yan and other places. You can also go to the cinema, see a katoey show at Alcazar or visit one of the many festivals/concerts. If you are bored rent a jeep or motorbike and drive to Rayong or just cruise around. It's nice to drive around and enjoy the landscape, sun and the nice people at the small villages.

Don't stay in Jomtien; You'll be too far from the action.
Jomtien is nice during the day for swimming and getting away from Pattaya, but for the night scene, you'll want to be in walking distance to Walking Street.
Try the Dynasty Inn Pattaya - www.dynastyinn.com - for 990 baht per night. Stay at the INN, not the resort. There are other places cheaper that I looked at, but not as nice.
I was just in Pattaya about 3 weeks ago; it was not the same as when I was there in November. Low season is definitely a change in venue.
Some positive aspects though were that I was there with a friend and we took a couple of girls to the upscale Hollywood dance club. A treat for the ladies if you find a nice girl or friends to go with.
Most of the good Pattaya girls go to Phuket during the off-season. Of course, there's always a lot of free-lancers along the sidewalks.
Polo Entertainment, which was awsome in high season, sucked this time. Peperment seemed to have the biggest variety of girls and the largest crowd during May/June.

Avoid to stay at Jomtien, especially during raining season.
If you rent a motorbike and have to drive that far in rain, you will be pissed and might get a cold. If you want to use a taxi, you will have trouble to find one at Jomtien if you decide to go out late at night and they will try to rip you off in both directions.
Try to stay somewhere at beach road. Easy to grab a taxi around the clock. It's on route and cheap, no rip off.

Steve101, I agree with Hamilton W the Dynasty inn on Soi 13 is a good bet, Wonderful bar opposite has lots of LBFMs some good lookers aswell. Another hotel which said they would match Dynasty's prices was Sandy springs also on Soi 13 but at the other end, this also is a nice hotel both are guest friendly ID at reception unless they get to know your regular girlfriend I was there about 4 weeks ago.

Jomtien is nice if you don't want too many bars and girls "in your face". It has Less people, , less noise , fewer girly bars, is more spread out, and sometimes a better class of tourist. Just carry a 50 cent pocket pancho that you bought from walmart in case of rain. Only your mommy will worry you will catch cold. To "grab" any pattaya beach baht bus taxi is asking to be ripped off if you don't know the appropriate prices and how to negotiage. Riding public baht busses with others in the back, pay the going rate of 5 baht between north and south pattaya. Jomtien is approx. 10-25b from S. Pattaya, and depends where you get off. If its only you and/or your date, then they can charge you anything they can get away with if you specify exclusive nonstop to a location or hotel. Be careful and don't believe everyone and everything you read in this forum.

First off while the Royal Cliff is a great hotel, some would say the best in Pattaya, it is not a hotel I would want to stay at. For the following reasons:
1) Way to far away from the action.
2) Baht bus drivers will rip you off going to and from it, some wanting 100 baht plus for the trip. Also harder than most places to get a baht bus to late at night.
3) Joiner fees, this hotel will charge you a added fee each time you bring a girl back to your room.
4) The girls will want larger tips for services when they find out what hotel you are at and some will not want to travel to the hotel.
5) No action within walking distance.
6) Bad traffic getting to Pattaya on the weekends. It could sometimes take 30 minutes for what should be a 10 minute ride.
7) Lots of families and Thais at hotel so not really the type of place board readers would be comfortable at.
8) Overpriced compared to other places in the area.

The beer bars tend to be slower this time of year. But for daytime places try Soi 6, if you want Go Go Bars during the day Pattayaland II (AKA Soi 13/4). You will want to try a soapy massage at least once or so, head to the Big C Area of Pattaya Soi 2/3 and you will find three good places. Go in sit down have a drink and check the girls out. Don't let the staff push you into taking a girl and if you see one that interest you asked her out for a drink first and talk to her. Check out all three places and know you don't have to take anyone if you don't find something that interest you.
At night for beer bars go to Soi 7 and 8 over 100 bars all full of girls. Walking Street is the center of the Go Go Bars in Pattaya. Check several of them, Living Dolls, Dollhouse, Super Baby Diamond, Happy, Peppermint are all good choices. Many Go Gos have shows starting around 10:00pm Polo has a show going all night.

I have been going to Thailand for more years than I want to remember now. I spend more time in Thailand and Pattaya than in the United States, right now I'm in Pattaya for most of the summer. This statement about the girls going to Phuket is coming out of left field. The girl from PATTAYA DO NOT go to Phuket over the summer months, Phuket has less $$$ around in low season that Pattaya. Been to Phuket many times and even in high season I have never been impressed with the girls. It is not even a close second to Pattaya. I would not be worried about lack of girls or problems finding really hot ones.
About your hotel again, if you want a high end hotel think about changing to the Hard Rock Hotel. The service is great, the location is about the best in Pattaya, the pool is second to none and it is very near lots of action. Baht buses are always available and you are about 5 minutes from Walking Street. Also the hotel is girl friendly unlike the Royal Cliff.

I’ll be making my first trip to the LOS (l week in Pattaya and a couple of days in Bangkok) in mid aug. I’m not looking to stay at a 5 star hotels but I also don’t what to stay at a Motel 6 either. So far the arrangements I’ve made are LAX to Bangkok and return $682.50 on Phillippine Airlines. Hotel in Pattaya at The Residence Garden at 1,350 baht per day. And, in Bangkok a deluxe room with breakfast at the Nana Hotel for l500 baht per day. I plan to take a taxi or limo from the airport to Pattaya and expect to pay between 800 (Taxi) to 2200 baht (limo). I also hope to have companions in the 7 or above range for 800 baht ST and 2000 LT. My question is, am I being realistic in these assumptions and have I done alright so far? I’ve been reading what you guys are saying in your posts and from that I concluded the above. Any comments or advice you old pros have for me would be very much appreciated. This board is such a great resource for us mongers. We all owe Jackson big time.

Besides SexReview's comprehensive answer I also like to add that the motorscooters can be extremely annoying at early morning if you stay at a suite directly at the cliff.
Follow his advice to stay at another hotel and choose the Amari Orchid, Montien or Dusit Resort if you really need a 4-5 star hotel. The Hard Rock in my opinion is a bit "too busy", I prefer it calm.

The Royal Cliff often has great offers. Last year a weekend in a mini-suite was available for only approx. 4500 baht. Really good price. Don't forget, it was and is still one of the best hotels in the world.

Guys like you and I who spend so much time in Thailand can afford to take a few days away from the action and relax at places like the Royal Cliff. But most guys want to get as much into a few days as they can because they have only a few days.

My comment regarding the Royal Cliff was only an answer to your statement that it is overpriced. On everything else we seem to agree. That's why I pointed to the Amari, Orchid and Montien.
BTW, I believe that most bar/gogo girls will feel quite uncomfortable in all the mentioned hotels. They often aren't dressed proper enough and it's obvious that they do not belong there. They rather prefer the average mid-range hotels.

The joiner fee at the Royal Cliff is 1000 to 1500 baht I believe, it has been a while since I was in the hotel. And yes you can rent a great room in Pattaya around the action for alot less. Good rooms around Soi 7 and 8 will be 600 to 800 baht per night. Try the Bella Vista, Eastiny or the Flipper Group. Rooms around the Pattayaland II/ Walking Street area will be between 800 and 1000 baht per night. You could check The Grand Hotel (Soi 14 ) or The Penthouse Hotel (Pattayaland II Soi 13/4) which is a big time party hotel, or even Diamond Hotel (Soi Daimond/Walking Street).

Everyone that I know, who stay in Bangkok for a long time ( 2 to 4 years living in a hotel ) Stay at the Lek, when visiting Pattaya. The cost is 700-900, or around there. They have high, and low season, so it will depend. These guys, who live in Bangkok knows the cheap one to the middle prices in Pattaya.
Even the grils there are cheaper than Bangkok, but most is for Issan. Bangkok have girls of different sizes, and shape.

went to pattaya for 2 nights to check out the off season scene.
arrived late aftenoon and walked around to find a hotel that i never stayed before. wanted to stay somewhere high and get a view. checked in a place at the north pattaya by the beach called mark land hotel which i never stayed before. requested a very high floor room very nice room for only 1500.
9 pm. take the songthel to walking street. the air pollution by the songthel is so bad in pattaya. i could barely breath when i take songthel. the air is so polluted in pattya worse than bangkok. it is the reason i cannot stand it anymore after 2 days.
first checked out the agogo scene. there are so many agogo in walking street. went to diamond soi went to super girl and super babe. there have topless dancing still. i remember these 2 places have nice ladies from my previous experiences. there are a few cuties in both but did not feel like to pay bar which is 500 and take home. but the quality of these 2 places are not bad.

You can avoid a joiner fee by checking in "with your girl-friend". If they ask for her just tell them that she is busy right now (shopping, barber shop or whatever) and will show up later on.

Some resorts include meals with their base room rate. Breakfast is given almost everywhere. Given the money this place charges, it's not out of line to get another meal.
If you check out at the desk, there should be be a final bill for incidentals. You can always get lucky and sneak one in.
Mike - it's hard to find a TG who NOT "petite". You have to look for the "chunky" girls. (or avoid them, as the case may be) Try a few of the other "off the beaten path" bars off Walking Street, too. One I liked was Club Nui (not the Nui 2 ON walking street - but it might be OK too) and some of the upstairs bars are sort of interesting as well
The point about always doing a "double" whether you are a "single" or not shold be remembered. ALWAYS check in a a "double" (even if that "double" changes "daily")

I completely agree regarding Beach Road. This past April was my second time in Pattaya. During my first visit I limited myself to go-gos and beer bars, and had a great time. But during this recent visit I strolled Beach Road (once late morning and another time early evening) and was pleased with the results. Both times I found young cuties who were so sweet and eager to please. I could not have been happier.
