SANAM LUANG: Prostitution tackle

BANGKOK: -- Phra Nakhon District Office’s director, Noppadol Savikamin, is pushing to declare Sanam Luang off limits between 11pm and 5am every day.

Noppadol said yesterday that he hoped the plan could be implemented as early as Thursday.

The idea is to stop prostitutes from plying their trade and to prevent derelicts from sleeping and littering on Sanam Luang.

“We plan to have more than 100 police patrol the area during the off-limits hours,” Noppodol said.

He said Khunying Nathanon Thavisin, Bangkok’s city clerk, had already approved the plan, which will be put before executives at Bangkok Metropolitan Administration for further discussion today.

Phuket Gazette:
Briton charged with cheap air ticket scam

PATONG: -- British national Jonathan Duncan, 24, was arrested today and charged with fraud after allegedly selling what he said were cheap air tickets to foreign tourists.

He was arrested at 3:30 pm in Room 112 of the Patong Grand View Hotel, where police also seized a laptop computer as evidence.

Pol Lt Col Boonlert Onklang said at Kathu Police Station that Duncan had been charged with cheating a Swedish man out of 95,000 baht, an offense which carries a maximum punishment of three years in jail.

Col Boonlert said that Duncan came to Thailand last year as a tourist. He is accused of telling foreigners wanting cheap air tickets that he could sell them to anyone interested, but that they would have to pay cash.

Using the tickets he provided, the people who bought them were able to travel one way but could not return, because people who se credit cards had been used to pay for them had notified the card companies that their cards had been used fraudulently, and the cards were cancelled.

The airlines were unaware of the name of the person who had sold the tickets, Col Boonlert added.

He said that the police have the names of people and two airlines allegedly cheated by Duncan.

Another victim of the alleged scam told the Gazette, “A friend told me that this guy was selling cheap tickets, so I bought two open returns to Gothenburg in Sweden. These were first class tickets at an economy price of around 65,000 baht each.”

He intended to use one immediately and the other later, he said. Using the first ticket he flew to Sweden in March, but when he wanted to return he was told that the ticket was not valid. He had to buy a new ticket in order to return to Phuket.

Col Boonlert said, “We want to warn tourists t hat it is impossible to get cheap air tickets. So they should not believe anybody who acts in this manner.”

Duncan will appear in court tomorrow, the colonel said.

Not a good place to pick up a girl- seriously there are a million better places for a cheap fuck. Hunting there is kind of like eating a little bit of shit off the pavement instead of paying 15 Baht for soup.

After dark plenty of homeless people sleep there, and of course there are tribes of junkies, crazies, hoodlums, thieves, and naturally hookers. Most of these hookers are old, scabby, ugly, diseased, or all of the above. They'll ask for around 200 Baht and you'll be led off to the nearest man-ruut hotel. Or if you wanna you could probably just hide behind a tree and give the hag a facial.

The usual customers are cabbies, cops, and other random menial Thais.

Some time ago, Juice Spike posted about some Muslim guy who, as well as being linked to the London subway bombings, was caught around Soi 3 with 150 or so passports and he flippantly wondered why the guy was fucking skanks instead of causing mayhem. Maybe he was coordinating with local Muslims opposed to the Thai king's repression in the South, in particular. Maybe not. Maybe he had other targets in mind.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/4204028.stm
What cannot be doubted is these attacks are growing in sophistication, frequency and are also becoming more lethal. While the compulsory worship of the Thai king and other Buddhist tin gods has a lot to do with it, there are some other facts which will keep the pot boiling. Eventually, the Thai Muslim resistance or overseas allies helping them will get lucky. And, at the same time, farangs and hookers at Nana Plaza or wherever they strike will get very unlucky.
Juice Spike finished his post dismissively with the one sentence word, Fucker. Not so. There are undoubtedly Muslims in Bangkok and elsewhere waiting to strike and get a double or triple whammy by hitting somewhere like Nana. It is not a question of if but when. And when they do strike, they will get a bigger orgasm out of it than anything we have ever experienced. Moral of the story: be alert to the very real dangers out there.

THAKSIN SHINAWATRA
When money and politics merge

By JEFF KINGSTON

THE THAKSINIZATION OF THAILAND, by Duncan McCargo and Ukrist Pathmanand. Copenhagen: Nordic Institute of Asian Studies, 2005, 277 pp., $23 (cloth).
Thaksin Shinawatra is Thailand's flamboyant and controversial prime minister, a wealthy telecom magnate who has transformed the domestic political scene in significant ways since his landslide election in 2001.

This fine book describes how he has taken advantage of the opportunities created by the financial crisis and new constitution of 1997 to nurture an authoritarian democracy in thrall to well-connected business conglomerates. The authors argue that his influence is pernicious and detrimental to Thailand's political development.

Who is Thaksin? In the authors' view, "a representative of the nouveau riche Sino-Thai business elite, given to the flaunting of wealth and conspicuous consumption." He is depicted as the natural outcome of the merger of money and politics in Thailand over the past 25 years. He has fully exploited the concentration of executive power laid out in the 1997 constitution while undermining the new institutions designed to promote accountability and curb abuse of such powers. His "approach to the new institutions was to penetrate them, politicize them and to subordinate them to his own will and purposes."

Thaksin has established new political networks characterized by more openly assertive business groups and strong military ties. By embracing populist policies such as cheap health care, debt forgiveness for farmers and micro-credit programs targeting villages, Thaksin has won broad electoral support. It is not clear that these policies are spreading the fruits of Thailand's impressive economic development or effectively addressing rural poverty. However, according to the authors, populism is winning elections and hoodwinking the people while his cronies' plundering of Thailand proceeds apace.

Like all strongmen, Thaksin is allergic to criticism. He blasted The National Human Rights Commission's report on the bloody drug war, blaming it for washing the nation's dirty linen in public and smearing Thailand's reputation. The authors show how he has manipulated the media to gloss over problems and divert attention away from more serious allegations. For example, his widely criticized mishandling of the southern Muslim problem was pushed off the front pages by an aborted, but well-timed, bid to buy Britain's Liverpool Football Club. When PR or diversionary tactics don't work, intimidation and hardball business tactics have helped him keep the mainstream media on a short leash. In such ways he has stifled Thailand's civil society.

We learn that "under Thaksin, big business has directly seized political power, [and] politics has become more personalized." His party Thai Rak Thai (Thais Love Thai) has emerged as a well-oiled political machine relying on the latest polling and marketing methods. It has succeeded in bypassing traditional linkages and networks by opening up new channels of communication such as the prime minister's weekly radio program. However, "the party remains fundamentally reliant on traditional Thai forms of campaigning and canvassing, many of them illegal." Thus, rigging elections and peddling influence remain rife.

The authors pull back the veil on the Thai political system, demonstrating how the military's political role remains powerful despite cosmetic reforms. They write: "the military learned to adapt themselves to civilian rule during a period characterized by a vibrant civil society and growing demands for reform. Once those demands had been superficially assuaged by the 1997 constitution . . . reformist generals were quickly pushed aside."

Thaksin has wooed the military by bestowing economic benefits and nurturing a clique dependent on his patronage. He also uses the military to his advantage, for example guiding its broadcasting operations to bolster government support.

Here, "Thaksinization" is shorthand for systemic cronyism, corruption, and missed opportunities. The authors lament that "Instead of marking the triumph of Thailand's vibrant private sector over its moribund military and bureaucracy, Thaksin's rule celebrated the kind of distasteful structural corruption" that has long prevailed.

In February, Thaksin won a landslide re-election that gave him the largest parliamentary majority in Thai history, but since then a sputtering economy, scandals and more open political dissension have dimmed his aura.

Thaksin was once a police cadet and has projected a get-tough image by cracking down on the drug trade and Muslim separatists in the south. In doing so, he has run afoul of human-rights groups for extrajudicial killings and policies that have transformed many moderate Muslims into sympathizers and supporters of extremists. Thaksin has also backpedaled from the prodemocracy policies of his predecessors in dealing with the reigning military junta in Myanmar.

Looking to the future, the authors sketch various scenarios ranging from a stable one-party kleptocracy to violent protests against "his increasingly rapacious interventionism -- such as recent attempts to politicize the process of monastic promotions."

Will there be a return to the democracy of the streets in 1992 that ushered in an era of reforms subsequently derailed by Thaksin? Nobody knows, but the authors' cogent assessment of the new political economy of Thailand is essential reading for anyone interested in this question.

Bad news from Bangkok Post:

Liquor prices go up in bid to make drinking go down

White alcohol spared to help communities

WICHIT CHANTANUSORNSIRI & BAMRUNG AMNATCHAROENRIT

Liquor taxes are rising effective today under a government policy aimed at reducing alcohol consumption. The new tariff regime affects blended whiskies, brandies, rums and other spirits and effectively raises taxes for most spirits up to the maximum allowed under the current tax law.

Whiskies and brandies currently carry an excise tax of 45% of the ex-factory price or 240 baht per bottle, whichever is higher. The per-bottle tax is calculated based on 100% alcohol content, and varies based on the actual proof of the spirit.

Under the new rate, popular whiskies such as Spey Royal and Johnnie Walker will pay a rate of 50% of the ex-factory price or 400 baht per bottle of 100% alcohol content. The rates on brandies, now taxed at 35% or 240 baht per litre, will increase to 40% of the ex-factory price or 400 baht per litre.

A second category, covering special blended spirits such as Mekhong rum, will have rates set at 50% of ex-factory prices or 400 baht per litre compared with previous rates of 50% and 240 baht per litre.

The new rate structure will effectively increase tax rates for both premium and budget whiskies. The retail prices of most Thai spirits are expected to increase by 30 to 40 baht per bottle.

Utid Tamwatin, the Excise Department director-general, said the new structure did not affect tax rates on white spirits, given the government's policy to encourage rural community producers.

''If we had increased taxes, the fear is that it would hurt small community producers.

''While most of the white spirits in Thailand are produced by large distillers, as far as tax rates go, we are unable to take a selective approach,'' he said.

Industry executives said the new tax structure would hurt cheaper whiskey brands the most.

Phanuwat Wongsriphisan, the managing director of Pernod Ricard Thailand Co, the importer of Chivas Regal, 100 Pipers, and Master Blend, said consumers could potentially shift to more beer consumption due to the price changes.

Prices on both imported and domestic whiskey brands are likely to increase by 40 baht per bottle, with most retailers likely to boost prices starting in early 2006.

Another industry executive said the new tax rates would result in the price difference between local and imported whiskies narrowing. For instance, Sangsom taxes could potentially jump to 112 baht per bottle, compared to 67 baht now, compared with Spey Royal taxes rising to 112 baht from 95.

''The government view seems to be that locally produced Sangsom is no different than imported Spey Royal,'' the executive said.

Beer industry executives, however, took a different view, arguing that the higher alcohol content of spirits justified the higher taxes.

''We have seen a series of tax increases on alcoholic beverages in recent years, but consumption remains high. Tax increases are just a tool to help reduce consumption,'' the executive said.

He added that authorities needed to add additional anti-drinking programmes to help reduce consumption over the longer term.

Bad news from The Nation:

ANTI-ALCOHOL MOVE: Excise tax raised for hard liquor

Published on September 07, 2005

Decision will affect brandy, whisky, special blends and distilled spirits. The Cabinet yesterday increased the excise tax on distilled liquor with high alcohol content while maintaining the current tax level on other drinks categories such as beer and wines, the PM’s Office deputy spokesman said yesterday.

Chalermchai Mahagitsiri said after yesterday’s roving Cabinet meeting in Phang Nga that the new taxes would take immediate effect.

“The government’s focus [in restructuring the alcohol excise tax structure] is to curb alcohol consumption. This change is enough to achieve the goal of slashing consumption and raising tax income,” Chalermchai said.

Larger players in the local liquor industry generally welcomed the new tax initiative.

Boonrawd Brewery, maker of Singha and Leo beers, earlier took out ad space in newspapers to show its support of the government’s move to raise taxes on spirits and beers.

Special blends, brandy, whisky and other types of distilled liquors are subject to the change. These types of liquor had been subject to a tax of between 35-50 per cent of market price, or Bt240 per litre of alcohol content. The new rate is 40-50 per cent, or Bt400 per litre - whichever is higher.

A Finance Ministry source said the government refused to raise excise taxes on other kinds of alcoholic drinks because those drinks were already subject to the maximum rate.

If additional taxes were to be levied, it said, the ministry would have to amend the laws governing the excise taxes.

“This will take time, so the government opted to raise taxes on those drinks that are not subject to the limit,” the source said.

Chalermchai said distilled liquor contained a higher alcohol content than other types of alcoholic products. The government believed those types of drinks had a negative impact on drinkers and they should be subject to higher taxes.

“If consumption remains high after this, we can assume that consumers will switch to products with lower alcohol content [which will be comparatively cheaper],” he said.

The Cabinet decided not to raise excise taxes on local liquors that have not yet reached their tax limit. The excise tax limit on local liquor is 60 per cent, or Bt100 per litre of alcohol content.

But in reality they pay only 25 per cent, or Bt70 per litre.

The Cabinet was concerned that if it raised excise taxes on beer, Thai Beverage Plc’s Chang beer would be the hardest hit due to its high alcohol content. Thai Beverage is currently the biggest player in both the whiskey and beer markets and it is preparing to list on the Stock Exchange of Thailand.

The United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organisation said on its website at www.ias.org.uk that Thailand ranked fifth in the world in alcohol consumption, behind South Korea, the Bahamas, Taiwan and Bermuda.

Available evidence suggests that the number of alcohol drinkers is increasing. The latest survey in 2001 found that the number of drinkers increased from 13.7 million in 1996 to 15.3 million in 2001, representing an increase of 2.3 per cent per year.

Somchai Suthikulpanich, vice president of Thai Beverage Marketing Co, said the maker of Chang beer agreed it was appropriate for the government to raise the excise tax on distilled liquor with high alcohol content.

“The new tax will not have a serious impact on local liquor companies,” he said.

A source at Boonrawd Brewery said the tax hike proved that the government was serious about altering taxes to reduce alcohol consumption.

“In the past, local liquor producers have always objected when the government considered adjusting the excise tax on liquor,” he said.

'Alien' sighting in Thailand

Officials in Thailand are investigating claims by villagers who say they have seen an alien.

About 10 people from Huay Nam Rak claims to have spotted the alien in a nearby rice field, reports The Nation.

The 'extraterrestrial' was said to have a small body, a large head and didn't leave any footprints.

It is reported the creature wandered around in the field for about an hour without taking any notice of the villagers.

Sawaeng Boonyalak, 35, who was among those who rushed to see it, said: "The alien is about 70 cm high and has yellow skin and a flat chest. Its mouth is very tiny. It has bald big head with big eyes and big ears.

"Suddenly, the alien floated to a tree top. After more villagers came to see it, it floated into the sky into the bright light."

District chief Wisit Sitthisombat who interviewed the ten residents said they were consistent in their testimonies.

He said: "I asked them to draw what they have seen and the pictures came out similarly."

Also as I remember Pataya was a *****house, the whole town that is and every bar in it. What about the rest of the country, say if I go to a random island or beach city, will I be ok or do I stick to Bangkok and Pataya?

Thanks all.

All nighter from Soi Joint is USD599.00 along with a few years in Bangkok Hilton. Pattaya is no longer a *****house. It closed out last year. No pussies available in rest of the country either. The PM decreed it a no sex country except for the citizens. BKK is still available though.

Gentlemen,

My English Thai dictionary (and associated guide books) fail to teach the appropriate way of discussing sexual services. Is there a "glossary" of terms on the forum? Would be really helpful. For example, how do you ask a girl if she'll do BBBJ? or take it up the arse? of let you take photos? My first trip to BKK is just a week and a half away, and the bookshop has let me down, er, of course, I didn't explicitly ask the shop assistant these questions.

Cheers,

Here is another phrase book, I picked it up a yesterday in a little bookshop in an indoor shopping place on Sukhumvit near Nana.

"English - Thai Bar Guide"

It has all those phrases in it, cost was 195 B (~$4.75 USD). Seems a bit cumbersome but on the other hand I have heard of this type of book causing quite a bit of titillation when used in various countries. A few years back I bought "Hot International", it is another small paperback that included translations of this type of subject matter in six different languages.

Good luck!

PS There were several other books of the same general type in that little book shop, so I imagine they are commonly available anywhere that "fine books" are sold. ;)

L Johnson, I don't know if this helps, but you may want to consider it, since you do travel to SE Asia on a regular basis.

I bought a regular, nothing fancy Nokia for about 60 US$ a few months ago at Panthip. You could also go to MBK. I have a DTAC chip inside, and also an Indonesia SIM card, so I just slide the correct one in. I am sure the countries you mention all have the same type of card, that you snap into your phone on arrival.

Benefits are you get to keep your phone number, in each country, and I am pretty sure that if there is a phone rental company, it will cost you the same, or more than buying an inexpensive phone in LOS.

Hope that helped.

The US phone companies does not want you to use the phones overseas without their SIM chips. So they have a software lock, so that you just cannot swap chips.

In order to use these phones you have to get it unlocked. A local Thai cell phone repair service should be able to get it unlocked for some Bahts. At least I could get it done in India, so I am sure it can be done in LOS.

Duni, i don't know what kind of phone you use in the US, ( I have a basic Nokia, not into emailing, and taking pics with my phone), but unlike the phone I bought in LOS, it does not have a little snap lock, to insert a SIM card.

Yes, you can have the phone unlocked, but how are you going to use it in SE Asia, where most phones use a SIM card, unless you get an account similar to what you might have here, ( a bill gets sent to you every month).

Coma Boy
09-21-05, 18:02
but how are you going to use it in SE Asia, where most phones use a SIM card, unless you get an account similar to what you might have here. No, your US handset should "roam" automatically to pick up whatever signals are available, and should place you on a Thai network. Any calls you make will appear on your US bill, but your service-provider back home will be paying the respective Thai networks you were using (minus their commission no doubt).

But beware, if someone calls you- you will have to pay the cost of redirecting the call from the country where your account is registered to wherever in Asia you may be. For example, if they are sat next to you calling you from Bangkok, they'll be dialing a US number, so they'll pay to call US, and you'll be paying the cost of a USA-BKK call if you answer it.

But, when calling out locally to other Thai numbers, as you'll be on a Thai network it won't cost much. Or if you're phoning home you'll pay the same price as you would with a Thai network. So, basically this "roaming" option is good for outgoing calls only.

But a better option is to open your phone and swap SIMs, surely US cell phones have SIM cards? Or are your service providers really that mean? Try smashing the phone with a brick and see if you can find a way of swapping the SIM. Then find someone to unlock the software if necessary.

(1ball- if you use your US handset in the same manner as your Thai handset then that's why you couldn't change the SIM- have the girl remove it first!).

So, if this makes sense, then:

- Phones from overseas should be able to be used all over SEA. Cheaply for outgoing calls, and expensively for incoming calls (without changing the SIM).

- If you are able to change the SIM, and there is no software blocking crap then you'll just save the price of a new cell-phone by using your US handset in Asia, with Asian SIMs.

But actually, just buy a phone and SIM here, and forget all that other crap.

Then purchase a new SIM card for each SEA country you visit, and when you return home complain to your US service provide for being so un-fucking-co-operative.

Land of the free! My ass!

My 2 cents on the subject of travelling with mobile phones.

Having travelled to Thailand with an 'open'(open meaning that your mobile company allows you to use a another companies sim card) GSM mobile phone, made my life hugely easier. Definitely much cheaper than buying into the home based mobile deals which for me would have run at $3.6 a minute.

Mobile companies do not like the fact that you use another's sim card (GSM phones) and mine did not even inform me that this is possible. Sometimes the codes for opening the phone to accept another companies sim card can be found on the internet.

The 1st day in Thailand I purcahsed a $10.- sim with local and overseas dialing. The 2 weeks that I was there I made hundreds of calls and refilled at another $10 which I could not use up. The cost of 'opening' my phone was definitely worth it against what I would havepaid in roaming fees.

As Coma has said buying a local sim is the better way to go, definitely in any place that you are getting a high exchange rate on the dollar and the fact that a local carrier would be less expensive.

Roaming calls are horribly expensive at the best of times and a US based phone will be charged incredible fees. In fact most companies world wide charge high roaming fees.

I hope this helps some.

cheers.

As others have said, if you can swap the SIM and it works, the identity is the identity of the card. Doesn't matter what phone you have it in. (Phone numbers are usually on the card as well, but some phones allow you to have them either on the card or on the phone.)

The problem is

(a) you phone may be "locked", ie. rejects other cards.

(b) USA (and Japan) use a different frequency from the rest of us.
My phone (a 60 USD Nokia 1100+home country Vodaphone card) works in every country EXCEPT USA/Japan. We all use "dual band" (two frequencies). I'd need a "tri-band" phone to be able to run it in the USA (not a big deal, I could get at 120USD phone and stick in my card and it would all work fine).

Juice,

when you purchase a sim it comes with its own number, prepaid are better in my opinion - if you call the USA the only number that appears on the other phone is the area from where you are dialing, or nothing at all. You can use a sim from any country in your USA handset without the number appearing back in the USA.

The world is divided up it would seem and each area has a code : for eg. when I receive a call from the USA only the numbers 00001301 appear.

A Thai number on my phone appears as something similar. Depending on the phone thats used sometimes only the word 'pvt' appears or the word 'call'.
It would seem that mobiles can not identify overseas numbers, phones in general can't do this, but the Brits for some reason are improving on this technology.

If you are looking to remain incognito then a prepaid is the way to go - and the number would be on a need to know basis only of course.

cheers.

It's the same here in the US. I have a T-Mobile sim, and a Cingular Sim. When I use the T-Mobile, one number shows. When I use the Cingular, another number shows. Same as in Thailand and Europe. Handset doesn't matter at all. At least for GSM cell phones.

SOME phones are easy to change sim cards, some not. I know that T-Mobile sends you the unlock code after you have finished your 1 year contract with them (if you request the unlock code from them). Otherwise, the phone is locked to T-Mobile sim cards. Same with Cingular. I did have success one time by mentioning that I travel often overseas, they unlocked the phone while I was still under contract with them. My current phone was bought unlocked (one of those Chinatown cell phone stores sold it to me), so I no longer have any problems. If anything, 1Ball can contact his cell phone company and ask them to unlock his phone as he is travelling overseas for an extended period of time. UNLESS he has a CDMA phone, then it will be of no use. :) 1Ball, what cell phone service do you use?

Sorry about not being clear, but I meant that after you unlock the phones, you can use the local SIM chips. If it is unlocked, you can only use the original US carriers SIMs who charges exorbitant rates. It is a common practice among all the US service providers.

Also, your phone must be a GSM phone, if you are on Cingular/ATT. If you lift up the battery, the SIM card is at the bottom of the phone. Not all models have lock in type, some of the older ones have a slide in (?) type.

Sean EZ,

I believe that if you go far north (CM) in Thailand the skin will get lighter but most working girls come from Isaan (which is North of BKK) and have darker skin. Their skin tone looks very sexy in most girls.

As far as big breasts goes, well they are hard to find but there are a few around. Meater girls in general can be found leaving any junk food restaurants in BKK. With the prolification of Macs and other junk food restautants you will start seeing more "meaty" girls which are not necessarily a bad thing but too meaty turns into fat and that's a "no-no..."

Sorry if I've caused any confusion. My phone is a Nokia 1100 and I know it works in Australia, Hong Kong, China, since I've used it. I also know that it should not work in the US. I thought I said that I could NOT use it in the US and Japan, but maybe I was not clear.

There may be different models in different places. For example, they sall them in HK, but I think with Chinese text capability (with a Chinese sim card I get a lot of unreadable characters, though it still works fine to call and text).

OK, so you (1ball) have 2 phones (and 1 ball:D), right??? And you use one in the US (Nokia TDMA) which you can't change sim cards, and another Nokia (with Indo and Thai sim cards) which you use when you travel. Is that correct??? I was getting kind of confused.

guilty on all counts.
Glad I was able to clear up the confusion.......

I spent all of June-July in LOS and while in BKK was unable to find a refill for AndroGel (testosterone gel 1%). I even tried Bumrungrad and they were out of an alternative product. I will be returning in November for 5 months and would prefer to refill as needed rather than go through the hassle of trying to stock in 5 months supply before departure from the US.

Any help?

Nice to "see" you again. Glad to know you are not yet extinguished. You have to admit BKK is the only place you can drill and get drilled at the same time. Shit, that didn't come out right, but you know what I mean.

I remember you talking about preferring the Phillipines when we were in BKK last year. I also remember asking you why, but you just mumbled something about better service.

Believe it or not, I've been thinking a lot about what you said in that short conversation because: I value your opinion, I'm interested in going (pretty close to Guangzhou), I think BKK is paradise on earth. So let me ask again for your opinion. If you have time, here's what I would like to know:

1. Do you think Fillipina service really is better? (I'm interested in your opinion, obviously) Why?

2. Trip to the Phillipines vs BKK: Cheaper for you?

3. If I go, what city would you recommend (your advice to me).

4. I think Thai women are the most beautiful women in the Universe. I remember, though, you kept telling me that I always chose the Chinese types. Hard question, I know, but do you prefer the Fillapina look? I always thought Fillipinas had a more western face and personality, almost Latinas. Not quite as exotic as TGs. However, I have seen some incredibly beautiful Fillipinas. A Davao girl once told me that the girls on Davao were the most beautiful in the world, and she was stunning.

Sorry I missed you, 1ball and TT. I WILL see you again. Take care of yourself.

Cronin, in my experience, Filipino girls have better bodies, larger breasts, are much better in bed, keener to please, less shy, less business-like in the bedroom, etc. Also, it's much better city to pick up high-end hookers- some of the hottest chicks I've EVER been with.

Plus, for some reason, I never come across the stretch-marked saggy-breasted girls that plague Bangkok's P4P scene.

Also, it is certainly much easier to pick up non-hookers in Manilla- the shopping centres are rife with young chicks willing to go for a drink before visiting your hotel. Admittedly, some of these girls may in fact be off-duty hookers, but the subject of payment never arises.

I spend more money in Manilla than in Bangkok, but probably just because I don't know the language, and still don't know the city as well as I know BKK.

Some great hotels in Manilla, and every single one is guest-friendly.

Manilla's only downsides are that there are guns and pickpockets everywhere. Remember to lock your taxi doors.

Bangkok is a much nicer city to spend time when you're "off-duty".

Just wondering, does anyone know about typical wages/salaries in LOS? We find it a useful guage, eg. in TJ, Mexico, when negotiating prices, when considering an appropriate expenditure for gifts, etc.

What would be typical earnings per hour or day or week or month for:

domestic worker (hotel maids at 3*+ BKK)
bank worker, low level (eg. teller)
bank worker with college degree
street policeman
Thai school teacher
waitress
waitress in high-end place like JWMarriott NY Steakhouse
hotel check in / front desk clerk
taxi driver (inlcude tips, minus expenses?)
motorcycle taxi driver (expenses?)
Farang English teacher
busy street food-stand vendor (net after expenses)
skytrain cashier
shopping mall food or drink stand girl/person (employee)
shop girl (employee), high-end mall shop girl
office/clerical employee

I would like to get a grasp of the economics of the typical people I come into contact with as a visitor. Any idea of the percentages of people who fall into lower/middle/upper classes?

Information on any of the above would be useful in filling in the picture, thanks!

Hooky,

A couple of months ago worker were protesting for higher minimum wages.
Back in 1997 minimum wages went up to B200 a day for constuction workers, no changes since...
A working day in Thailand typically is 10 hours, 5 or 6 days a week.

For the B1,000 some spend on a ST, you could get someone to work for you for almost a week. Ok the pace is a little slower than we're used to, but still.

I spoke to someone in a mid-management position a while back and he said he made B35,000/month, three weeks holidays a year.

A good way for me to check economics anywhere is looking at the cost of local buses and comparing that cost to what I'm used to at home.

Hooky
09-25-05, 16:23
Looks like the minimum wage is in the range of $4.50USD per day, seems like that would apply for example to a worker in a clothing factory.

Here is another bit of info I found online:

"This someone is called a maid.

The best ones can speak some English, cook Thai food and a few western dishes, pay the bills, look after the kids and/or dog, do the shopping and all household duties without supervision. This type of maid will cost you between Bt6,000 and Bt9,000 a month.

The next level are ones with poor or no English, who can cook a number of Thai dishes, but generally need a few weeks initial training and supervision when it comes to household chores. They will cost you around Bt5,000 to Bt6,000 a month.

There are also part-time maids, who mostly work on a day rate, say three to five times a week for four or five hours. Their rates are between Bt200 and Bt400 a day.

Remember, besides wages, full-time maids will also be supplied with food to cook their own meals.

Other benefits should include one day off per week, as well as most public holidays, and a year’s-end bonus of a month’s pay, although these are not mandatory."

I've gotten enough requests for info to feel there's a need to know out there so, in a nutshell:

I went to Bangkok Dental Hospital on Soi 49 ( a good distance up the soi, on the right as you travel away from Suk).

I had two root canals and a bridge done. With a full set of x-rays and a cleaning the bill was 70,000 b. I am impressed with the level of care and professionalism.

Howdy Cronin, long time indeed.

I agree with Coma Boy completely. I'll keep additions short, as this subject has been discussed "ad nauseum". (spelling guys ?)

As a destination, Thailand is far superior on almost every level. Drinks are much cheaper in the RP.

Your questions:
#1. Yes. As CB said, friendlier, sweeter, not anxious to leave. Much more like a girlfriend for the night than a customer client relationship.
#2. Airfare about the same. Other things balance out.
#3. Depends on what you want to do. I usually do 2-3 nights in Manila then head up to Angeles City. I also usually make a trip down to Puerto Galera, on Mindoro (easy trip from Manila) for some diving and nightlife. I have never been down south (other than a week in Boracay) and many of the guys on the Philippine boards love it down there. Some reading on those boards may give you more answers than I can provide.
#4. I actually think the Thai girls are prettier. But the difference in attitude is enough to make the Filapina more attractive to me. But you're right, there is no shortage of beautiful ladies in either country.

Feel free to PM me with additional questions, this IS a Thai board.

Sorry guys.

Minimum wages for foreigners hiked

Companies have until July 10 next year to increase the wages of foreign employees to new minimum rates, Pol Capt Krissarat Nuesen of the Phuket Provincial Immigration Office, told the Gazette yesterday.

The new minimum monthly wage rates, which vary according to nationality, will be:

• Japanese, Americans and Canadians: 60,000 baht (currently 40,000 baht).

• Europeans and Australians: 50,000 baht (35,000 baht).

• South Koreans, Taiwanese, Singaporeans and Hongkongers: 45,000 baht (35,000 baht).

• Malaysians: 45,000 baht (30,000 baht).

• Indians and people from the Middle East: 35,000 baht (30,000 baht).

• Mainland Chinese, Indonesians and Filipinos: 35,000 baht (25,000 baht).

• Burmese, Laotians, Vietnamese, Cambodians and Africans: 25,000 baht (20,000 baht).

• Journalists working for newspapers: 20,000 baht (12,000 baht). Wages of journalists working for magazines and other media are categorized by nationalities.

Capt Krissarat said, “If companies don’t [increase their foreign workers’ wages] because they don’t want to pay their employees more money, they will have problems when they pay tax and when renewing their employees’ visas or work permits.”

If he uses his US cell phone he can have the cell company block the number and when he calls it will not show up in the callers phone screen. Some cell phone companies can do this. Also, if he works for a large/medium company in NY he can call the receptionist and have his call transfered to his boss, or other people, etc.

Or, communicate via email only as his cell phone was lost or some other BS. :D

one suggestion that i have used is vonage. it is an ip phone system. you get a box that you connect to your dsl or cable modem or router, and you connect your phone to that. in my instance, since i stay at the grand president, i asked for high speed internet. they connected a dsl modem in my room and hooked it up to my laptop. i disconnected that and connected my vonage box to the dsl modem, and connected one of the room phones (they have 1 phone in the bedroom, and one in the bathroom) to the vonage box. voila! i was able to make calls as if i had run a line direct from the us to thailand. call quality was the same as in the us, and all calls to the us were local. my call id number displayed on their phones and viceversa. this service costs me $24.99 per month, unlimited calls anywhere in the us. i use this as my primary phone service. it's something you guys should have a look at.

i have vonage too. one shortcoming is that it isn't configured to work with a hi-speed wireless connection.

another (and cheaper) alternative would be to use "skype", you can google it and get the info from their website, you would be using "skype out" in this case, using your laptop.

meanwhile, any of you thailand experts know anything about the salary question i posted below?

duniawala, i have no idea how they came up with those numbers, something like that would certainly cause an outrage in the us.

Phuquer
09-27-05, 03:10
vonage has a similar feature to the skype out, that you have to install on your laptop. i have never tried it, but i wonder how the audio quality would be using your laptop as a phone. i doubt it would be as good as the dedicated vonage box. i really got landline quality over the vonage phone. i called family and friends and they really couldn't tell i was away from home. of course you have to be connected to the internet to use it (and high speed wired internet, at that), but the up-side is that it is very easy to disconnect.

Thanks JuiceSpike. I guess "meaty" is ok til they start turning 20 or so :)

CB,
I've tried "moving my office" to BKK and I haven't ever figured out a way to completely mask the international call deal. You can have a virtual number in Hong Kong and Singapore through a couple of VOIP companies, but Thailand seems to deliberately lag behind when it comes to VOIP (..Go figure).
My best deal was to just go to the 7/11 and buy 300 bht Phonenet cards, go through the PIN process and call. No one I ever called has ever known I was in Thailand. It just shows up on caller ID as "Out of Area," which could be across town or wherever. The rate is about 6 bht per minute and the connections are usually good.
Wish I could be more help, it's a good question.
Cheers,
Sean

Hi,

My first post ever on this board!

I will be going to Thailand soon for a couple of weeks and I was wondering about massage institutes.

I have been reading on this board for a while and every now and then I read about massage institutes in reports, and now I'm curious.. how does it work?

Let me explain, I'm not into ordinary massages at all, but last night I downloaded this amateur video flic where the girl (extremely beatiful I must say) undressed with the guy in the movie and they went into a hot tub where she gave him a really erotic massage with her whole nice body as her tool. Almost like a mix between ordinary massage and a totally nude lapdance.

Is this what thai massage is all about?? I mean, is this a "standard routine" or did he ask for someting special?

Didn't know in that thread I should post this question in so Im sorry if it is off topic.

Breaking News (The Nation):
Thai major tourist sites on full alert after Bali bombing

BANGKOK: -- The prime minister said he put Thailand's major tourist spots on full alert Monday, hinting of links between Muslim militants in the south of the kingdom and the terrorists who staged the latest Bali bombings.

We have information that makes us very cautious and on full alert, Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said in response to a question about how Thailand was reacting to suicide bombs on the Indonesian resort island of Bali that killed 26 people on Saturday.

Major tourist venues include the island of Phuket, the seaside resort of Pattaya and several sites in the capital.

Thailand is tackling its own militants in southern Thailand and Thaksin has so far characterized it as a domestic issue not tied to regional, or international terrorism. However, the prime minister changed his tune on Monday.

By geography it seems that they are far apart, but actually along sea routes Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia are quite close. These terrorists are commuting and rotating around in the region, he told reporters. They have close connections and links. The full alert was ordered due to such links.

Last week, a security adviser to Thaksin said that Indonesian fighters are involved in the southern insurgency.

How credible this is, is a completely different matter.

M&M,

Don't worry yourself sick before your trip! Although I don't support the scabs that are working on the aircrafts for Northwest your shouldn't have a problem with your flight to Thailand. Although they have their problems associated with a strike the aircrafts stopping in Japan are checked and checked! and I don't believe a pilot is going to be forced to take a aircraft that is not safe.

Enjoy your trip and if it bothers you, Singapore has a special fare for $649.00 saw it on the travel section of the newspaper.

I am 100% union, and really don't look forward walking accross the line. I bought my ticket over a month and a half (in early July 2005) prior to the strike even starting. I thought about it a long time and had to decide to keep my trip or cancel it and search for airfare elsewhere. When I did the math..it would cost me over $300 more to rebook for the ticket alone and then my cancellation fee and insurance added on top of that.
Sing...doesn't fly out of Detroit. So I will run accross the line on Monday, please pray for my safety. Oh and Northwaste even called me to see if I was still taking the trip. She said they were overbooked and were checking. The can comp me or I am still going. M&M

You can either volunteer for another day and take a travel voucher, or if you think you would agree to not take the trip, show up early, and be ready to volunteer. I know when I checked in for my BKK trip earlier this year, they offered $500 voucher, or $400 check. I think you could then go the next day, or possibly get the ticket refunded totally.

I'm taking my second trip to LOS in November, I went in May and of course had a blast, while there i noticed that the British pound note was much stronger than the US dollor (I'm American) My question is: If I exchange my US currency at the airport here in the states to british pound notes, and exchange it in BKK to Baht, can I do this? I lose out on US to Pound, but more than make up for it in Baht. Im sorry if this has already been asked and answered in the past, but im curious if this is possiable. If anyone can answer me I would appreciate it.

By the way the pound is 1 to 75 thai. US is 1 to 41 as of 10/03/05

Thanks,

MM,
Its sort of a Hobbesian choice; support the picket line and pay more or go and enjoy yourself knowing you'd crossed the picket line and feeling bad about it. My thought is that if you just blew of the ticket and flew on another carrier or even let NW rebook it you'd be doing them a favor that they don't deserve.
If your plans are somewhat flexible maybe go knowing that it it is an overbooked flight, stick to your plan and try to milk NW for every check or voucher you can get (take the check, most NW vouchers are almost unusable because of the restrictions, only good for a year, non transferable, and non combineable). Taking as much as you can get from their cash flow is probably the best way to support the strike.
Apart from the strike, United has been in bankruptcy for the last three years and I've flown back and forth on them probably ten times and haven't been able to tell the difference.
Cheers,
Sean

Meaty -

If Pattaya were to be hit I would expect Walking Steet on a Fri or Sat night - most farang and most potential for damage - maybe about 100m in from intersection with Pattaya tai, at maybe 10pm or so - max tourists, expect maybe late Nov or early Dec. If the intent were to be max Thai impact, then hit Soi 8 - congregation of beerbars with vehicle access - 50kg of C4 would cause maybe 500 deaths and 200+ injuries plus impacting several hotels as well.

(good thing is it's sort of hard to HIDE things on walking Street and someone wearing a "jacket" in Thailand would be immediately suspect- no particular place to hide a car bomb since they clear the street)

Go for max impact and then sit back and wait for the iron fist response which then justifies another attack

(sorry, just being realistic - I don't want anything to happen, but it's such an attractive target - same as Patpong or Nana)

It is ok. Travelled on it last April. Comfortable seats but don't recline to flat. Old style, not all seats fully functional. Limited entertainment. I used my portable DVD player to keep myself pass the time. But service is really good better than UA, NWA. The bar is on a cart all the time so you don't have to call the attendants all the time. Hope you got a good price if you paid for it. Overall, not bad, but SiN beats them all.

Duniwala brought up a good point; who's paying for the ticket?. In a perfect world I'd always fly on SQ or Cathay, but aside from using miles they're pretty expensive. As far as I know niether SQ or CX discount business class tickets too much, maybe $3200.00 on CX or a little more on SQ.
The best deal I've found is NW one way to BKK (through a consolidator) for about $1200.00 and either Korean or Asiana back to SEA,SFO, or LAX for $770.00. Sorry, but this assumes you're coming from the west coast of the U.S. The NW flight is a drag, but Koraen is pretty cool (i.e. beautiful stews and new planes).
If I'm paying for it I just think about how far $1200.00 or so goes at the Biergarten and close my eyes when I look at the NW stews.
Cheers,
Sean

Sean - some of the NW FAs sort of remind me of aged Roosian Lady Shot Pooters - with attitudes of a combination of Stazi and valley girls.

The times I flew NW, there have been a few nice ones, but all seem to be long in the tooth - thats what a strong union will do for you.

(this trip is Thai/Singapore - totally different)

Oh - and is Cathay that good? never been on them but can do it next year if I want

Where to find Russian and high class indian ladies in BKK besides there embassies.
Thanks.
The last high-class russian i spoke to was back in may at spasso's - she was on her way Phuket - she was drop deal gorgious. Since then most of the russians i have seen are very average. Spoke to 2 last week at spasso's - they were almost acceptable - but didn't quiet get me to part with any Bhat. CM2 is the main russian location - i have not been their lately but get the impression quality is low based on this forum. But from experience this changes so dramatically from day to day. I also notice that its very busy in Bangkok last week - which drops your choice.

I did my part and I'm flying Continental to Asia (HK), using my ff miles. I have a ton of miles on NW and need to start using them before they flip the script. I've never flown KAL but they sound good. Cathay is overrated. Singapore is the best but they do not fly to the midwest.

Just my humble opinion,

Hi All:

I have been just quoted US $ 3400.00 including taxes on Thai air business class from LAX-BKK-India and than back to India-BKK-LAX.

Yo Tony_USA,
Here's a way to find out if you're getting ripped off or not: get a few more quotes from different airlines and travel agencies. If you do that you will find out that $3400.00 is actually a very GOOD deal for business class LAX-BKK-India-BKK-LAX assuming that you can stop over in BKK.
Thai's business class fare from LAX to BOM or DEL is $4239.00 not including about $175.00 in tax. Singapore's business class fare would be $5565.00 and Cathay Pacific $5626.00 not including taxes. Working with a good travel agent or consolidator you could save a little from these fares, but you get the picture, right?
Take whoever gave you that quote out to lunch or buy them a beer.

Hey Tony,

I can't tell you positively if that's a good price, but wanted to add my two cents worth here. I highly doubt that whatever price you get quoted in the states will be a great price. If I were you, I would only book the LAX to BKK round trip in the states. Then while in Bangkok shop around a few travel agents or one you trust and purchase the round trip ticket from BKK to India there. It will be in my opinion much more bang for the buck in the long run. If Thai Airways is flying the legs to India that you are being quoted I would think you could easily book it there in Bangkok for a lot cheaper. That's the way I do it when I have multi country visits. Bangkok is usually my base and I go from there. Realize though that if you want to charge it on a credit card, the travel agents there will then tell you that they will tack on a 3% charge to the total to get back what companies like Visa or Mastercard take from them on your charge. Don't be scared of the written out or typed onto tickets. That's the norm there.

And the most useful phone number of all- 1133 - directory enquiries.

Anyway, met one of the hottest white-chicks I've ever seen in SEA today. She was out shopping at Siam-Discovery and turns out she was a working-girl. I guess she falls into the Russian hooker category, despite coming from Stockholm. She had been living in both Prague and London for many years, but has been in BKK for three years now. I'd imagine some of you already know her, claims to be 21, looks even younger, medium height, wavy brown hair, name was Kat (or something), not shy- happily told me her life-story within a few minutes of meeting her.

Apparently she never planned to enter this line of work but was continuously being offered money by the likes of us. She has never worked for an agency.

She told me she gets about three customers a week and never goes for less than 10,000 Baht. She also has a few regular clients. Hangs out at the usual places; Mystique, Q-Bar, Bed, Face and Spasso, plus a couple of places I'd never heard of. I declined her kind offer to spend my money on her, although I have to say after a few drinks I'd be tempted. Made me realise that some white girls are actually quite hot, and that some "Russian" *****s in BKK are quite young.

You can get LAX-BKK-DEL RT Bus Class on Thai for $3100.00.

And Key Master, the only drawback to your method is that you are limited to 20 kg for luggage. But you do save on the fares though by about $100-200.

Yo Duniawala,
If that LAX-BKK-DEL-BKK-LAX fare on Thai that you mentioned is $3100.00 including all the taxes that is a remarkable fare. Care to share where you can get it? I've been paying around $3400.00 and feeling good about it
I have a friend who works for Thai in the LAX rate department and she breaks the fare down this way: The published Thai fare LAX-DEL-LAX is $4239.00, Thai offers a few wholesalers up to 33% commission on business class fares to asia from LAX. That means that the lowest possible net fare would be $2840.00, the tax is $227.00, so the absolute base fare would be $3067.00. There aren't too many outfits that would qualify for that commission level who'd be in business long making $33.00 on a ticket.
Cheers,
Sean

I was just quoted from another travel agent (thai airlines recommended) $ 3305.00 rt LAX-BKK-India.
My agent with whom I have my reservation is now offering me $ 3355.00.
And I think I am sticking with my agent since I have known him from many years and $ 50.00 no big deal.
BTW Duniawala, care to give agent info you use.

Tony,

That is too much. I don't know where you live, but if you live in a large city, you might want to consider buying a consolidator ticket. Even if you don't live in a big city, you may be able to do it over the phone. These agnets ae usually located in the Indian/Chinese shopping areas. Lot of Indian and Chinese travel agents bulk purchase consolidator tickets and will sell at lot less than regular travel agents. You should able to get LAX-BKK-BOM for under $2000. Be sure to pay with CC since you will recourse if something goes wrong (the may have surcharge of 3% or so but it is negotiable and worth it).

I just read your earlier posts - the rates I gave are for coach not bus. class.

Hey Tony,
That sounds like a good plan, he was giving you a good deal to begin with and you negotiated one thats a little better. He's still making a couple hundred bucks on the ticket, but that's his job. He also clued you in to the lowest business class fare to India around where you can stop in BKK.
I agree, I'd rather pay an extra $50.00 or so and deal with someone I know and trust rather than from some murky ethnic (I don't mean that in a racist way) consolidator who really maybe is making $32.00 on the ticket and doesn't give a shit about it.

The fare of $3100 is in low/shoulder season. That is till Nov 30. High season fare is about a couple of hundred more Dec. 1- Jan 15.

Low season fare on coach is about $1250-$1350. High season is $1450 or thereabouts.

PM me for agent info. Alternatively go to any Indian grocery store and pickup an Indian newspaper. There are about 10-15 agents listed. Call them.

How the ATM works in BKK ????
Can somebody shed some light on this topic as well.

Thanks.

Your card must support one of the common systems, such as Cirrus, but otherwise they work like any ATM. You typically will not get your account balance in Bhatt (as occuring in places like HK with $HK) so its difficult to work out the exchange rate - but every time i check when i get home the rate is good (Better than a hotel and a lot better than converting your money in the UK or US). Most of the ATM's i use dispense 500Bhat notes, so i keep my withdraws to 10,000 Bhatt (otherwise you spend ages counting your money and end up with a big wad of notes) but i think some dispence 1000 Bhatt notes.

I have never tried it but i suspect you can also do credit card withdraws in thailand - but i normally use my savings account.

One of the most reliable, reputated travel agents in Thailand that I know is
Chawlatravel. They are located on patpong 1 in the middle between Silom and Suriwong, when you come from Silom on the left hand side. You can't miss it.
They have a huge Lufthansa Sign outside, and the space on the walls inside is far not enough for all the awards they have got in all the years.
http://www.chawlatravel.com/achievenew.htm
I have experience with them over 10 years. They can issue the tickets right there. On economy they are not always the best deal, but for business or first class they are the ones to look for.
Look for Mrs. Rani.

Definitely also worth to send an email enquiry for an inbound return ticket starting from overseas.

I have Thai bank accounts, but when I withdraw from my overseas accounts I find I get an excellent exchange rate. I do get charged a fee though, which sucks, so I generally withdraw the maximum of 20K as I think the fee is fixed regardless of the ammount withdrawn.

I am thinking of travelling to Thailand next month, but this time, see more than just Bangkok or Pattaya. I know going to the south is not a good idea because of Muslim unrest.

Will i be reasonably safe travelling alone, in places like Ubon, Udon Thani, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai , Sukhothai ?

I have been reading recent reports of tourists being unsafe in Pattaya, a place that always have been more or less safe, and has a strong police attention .......

All of Thailand is armed and dangerous. Especially one should avoid any area where political parties purchase gifts for motorcycle taxis and rice farmers.

Pattaya has always been full of mafia and cops on the the take, but anything goes so no worries.

A couple of months ago I was in Chiang Mai. I took a bar girl back to my hotel room and she almost sucked the head of my dick right off of me. Then she took a handful of Johnson's Baby Oil and slowly stroked my dick up and down with both hands until I was begging to cum; and then I exploded and thought I had died.

If that is the kind of beheading, torture and near death experience you fear, then stick to Cleveland.

I am also flying with them at Xmas for £650. I fly out on the 22nd June but the only downer is that I get in a 19:25 pm and then got a 2 hour ride to Pattaya. I know it would good to stop over in BKK for the night, but I can not stand the place. To hot and stuffy for me have had a few good nights there, but really like Pattaya over BKK as you have the beach and sea air and jetskis for 600baht a time for 30 mins.

Guys, guys, guys....

Montecristo asks a valid question!
Trouble in Pattaya: Read the Pattaya Mail on line - you will see that most of the trouble is in the darkest hours of the night and happens to the drunk and elderly. And to people flashing gold.
Trouble in Chang Mai: Only for those who go backpacking in the hills on their own or with a guide who has his mind on yabba.
Trouble in Chang Rai: Cross border yabba trafficking is a big problem in that province and there are periods when you run in one roadblock after another. Stay clean and you're ok.
Trouble in Udon, Ubon and Sukothai: None whatsoever! Read recent Udon, Ubon reports.
Come to Thailand and enjoy!

Viagra and Cialis is readily available in Bangkok at most pharmacies, but my perennial favorite is Kamagra (a generic brand name for Viagra) because I can buy a four-pack for 400 to 450 Baht. It usually costs 450 Baht but one pharmacy on Suk sells it for 400 Baht.

Kamagra is not as good as Viagra in my honest opinion because Kamagra doesn't seem to last as long as Viagra. At least that has been my experience, but it definately puts a kicker in your pisser for a good two hours and it still has the nice morning-after-can-go-again persistence that is found with Viagra.

Viagra pills will run you about 500 Baht per tablet and Cialis is closer to 600 Baht when purchased in the standard four-pack. I hear there is a generic Cialis known as Regalis but I have not tried to find it yet.

When I feel like shelling out for the higher priced originals I'd put my money on Cialis every time because Cialis is an absolutely wicked sexual helper.

I once ate a 20mg tablet when my girlfriend had the notion of fucking for as long and as many times as possible (meaning all night), and I have to tell you that I was still able to obtain a horrifically frightening erection 24 hours later when I was far and away too tired to fuck.

Cialis definately gets the posterlion stamp of approval!

i liked the simplicity of it, its like amsterdams rld, you walk in pick who you want either then head upstairs to the room. there not private rooms just have curtains to give you a wee cubicle so you its a nice weird feeling getting yer dick sucked while you hear the guy next to you cumin'! (note you can also get a bj downstairs at the bar in front of everyone)

700baht for the service so it's dirt cheap, i picked a girl slightly chubby but nice face, bbbj and asked if she done a full fuck as well - yes, 700baht extra, so she bent over and i fucked her doggy holdin' on to her juicy titties. lovely jovely, great way to spend 1400baht, dirt cheap nice fuck with none of the useless shite inbetween like having to talk and all that...haha.

definately visit again!

Cialis is available in "Indian generic" as well - tadalis, zidalis, apsalis - several names for it (available for 600B for 4 in Pattaya - $19 in Cambodia)

I dont want to disillusion anyone - but assuming the kamagra is the same chemical formula, it will work identically. kamagra is the same chemical formula according to the box and the dosage is the same (and in Pattaya, it costs 350B/4 = and in Cambodia, it was $4 for 4 for Kamagra)

Monte - the issue of the "drive on left side of road" is a problem with those of us accustomed to driving on the right side. As to roads - yes the roads are relatively good - loaded with motobikes and relatively well traffic controlled (except in towns where "sort-of-chaos" is the norm - "controlled chaos" is the term I use) I took to riding in "uncontrolled chaos" in Cambodia reasonably well, but driving on the right will take a different mindset and a lot of concentration until you adjust.

BTW - head-on accidents are relatively uncommon in England, but generally, an American is involved. I have no idea about Thailand rate of accidents

On average, 50 people a day who leave home for work, to travel, to shop etc. in Thailand never return home because of road accidents. Yearly, some 20,000 people die and over 100,000 are injured in car crashes in Thailand. This is equivalent to approximately 2 road deaths per hour! The economic losses due to road accidents are estimated at more than 100 billion Baht (USD 2.5 billion), about 2 per cent of the GDP. Studies have indicated that about 85 per cent of these accidents are attributed to human error as the major cause of accidents (source: SweRoad). According to official statistics, the accident rate is about 12 deaths per 10 000 vehicles. This is about 6 times higher than rates in developed countries."

a wide range of pricing going on below, i can tell you that the fixed price is 700 baht bbbjcim (no condom 1ball !)
1,000 baht starts with bbbj and then you decide to take her there and then in the cubicle (that carpet burns very easily)
1,500 30 minutes in the on premises bedroom for short time session

you can of course tip, i never do, 700 baht for 15 minutes is fine by me, its normally settled downstairs, after the deed, at the bar, on your tab, its been like this every weekend i've been there for the last 3 years, apart from when the bbbj cim was only 600 baht but it went up beginning of this year.

a lot of guys don't realise that it is standard for these girls to whip there tops off, and bras, and its a full on feel, suck and play session, even with just the bj, but a lot of the girls won't let on thats the case and you can end up being sucked off by a fully clothed girl, wishing you could play with her hooters.

take advantage, and question the prices if it happens again.

BE CAREFUL.

I own a car in Thailand and i have class 1 insurance (the best cover you can get).

If you cause an accident, by accident, and the other person is injured which requires them to be unfit for a period of more than 10 days LEGALLY it must go to court. It is a maximum 3 year jail sentence for this type of offence.

I swerved to avoid hitting a boy on a bike in Chaing Mai last year and veered into oncoming traffic as a result and hit another car head on, i was hospitalised for 4.5 mths, various damages, the other guy suffered a broken ankle, nobody was killed.

Despite 6 mths of wrangling with the insurance and corrupt Thai police i ended up with a 6 month jail sentence suspended for 2 years and a hefty fine, as well as the pleasure of being arrested and detained in prison and then bailed out by my insurance a day later.

The laws are VERY VERY different to back home, be very very careful.

Having said that i was given the option on several occasions to make everything go away by paying huge money, (millions of baht) so if you're rich and don't care this won't affect you.

I have been reading this forum for over a year now and see lots of technical questions on phones. But, what a great idea! I have perfect eyesight but wearing glasses to distort my vision could turn every girl into an angel. Think about it.

UK phones don't need to be unlocked, you can just slip in a Thai SIM and use.The Nokia phones I bought were both unlocked, but I purchased a program on ebay for about 10usd to unlock virtually any nokia phone. Can't remember if I said the phones were used. It used the same battery as the nokia I have at home (USA) so I now have a spare fully charged battery as a backup.

Phones purchased in Thailand, sim card free or not, cannot be used outside of Thailand without a Thai sim card. They 'block' the phone to stop people buying them here and then going home and popping a local sim card in.
To get round this you need to get the phone unblocked, 2 options, pay 100Baht for any mobile phone stand to unblock it, or as is my experience, ask nicely and they will do it for free (Seacon especially). The same is 'usually' true for bringing your foreign phone here, beforeit will work with a Thai sim card it needs to be unblocked.
Sim card free and unblocked are 2 different things.
