Due to the Tsunami a lot of people are canceling trips to Thailand and not only to the affected area of Phuket.

I can understand that you are not going to the Phuket Area, but please try to keep going to Thailand, motivate your friends to spend there holidays overthere too, The Thai people need our financial help now more than ever in those Tourist and tourist related industries.

Who will do it will be rewarded in the end. You can expect big price drops for everything due to the cancelations creating a lot of last minute bargains.
And yeah of course its also likely that the other rates will go down to, lots of people badly needing money will migrate to the remaining tourist places making it a buyers discount market.

Hi,

I'm thinking of going to Pattaya mid March to end April. Does anyone have any idea is it's quite busy with tourists there or has the tourist season ended?

I have a plane to BKK on the 10th this month, booked before the disaster.

I intended to make a roundtripp Thai, Camb, Viet, Laos.

But since i was once in pattong and now really dlike to spend my money down there,

Is it a bad idea to make (now) a land tripp fromBKK to somewhere indonesia and back?

And since I got six months until my flight back, should i let pass some months until I'd do this?

Thanks for your opinions

Interested in hooking up with anyone who might be going to Pattaya between Jan 24 and Feb 6.

Went there in Oct and had a blast. Met up with about 5 guys for touring, drinks and good times.

Staying at the Dynasty Inn on Soi 13 again. Found it clean, spacious, and well appointed. Situated about halfway between Walking Street and the beerbars on Soi 7 and 8. Nothing beats the baht bus for getting around.

Plan to arrive Jan 23, stay in Bangkok for the night and then take the free shuttle from the Dynasty In Bangkok.

Any takers?First time going to Thailand for hmm...fun fun fun i guess. Don't really know where to begin, esp. with this disaster there. Was thinking of Bangkok and stay there for a week or so.

My question is, for all u exp. guys, what should i do? just show up there? or join a group? or is there a naughty tour given by english speaking guide....argh...any help would be much appreciated. Or if anybody wanna meet up, i'm 'PLANNIN' for Jan 27 - Feb 17. Any info would be much appreciated or u can email me at [Email Address deleted by Admin]

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I'm planning to visit Thai after lurking here for a while now. I'm not sure where to go...etc. etc. Seems like Phuket is a good spot, but after the disaster, i'm not sure, perhaps some of you may give me some insight.

Furthermore, should i just show up in BKK or should i join a tour group or is there a local english speaking guide for the naughty naughty tour???? meeting ppl from this board is safe??? any advice would be much appreicated. I will probably go for a week and would like to make the best of it.

My question is, for all u exp. guys, what should I do? just show up there? or join a group? or is there a naughty tour given by an English speaking guide?Just show up alone, you'll be an expert in no time. It is an easy country to get around and plenty of people speak English. Guides and groups are a waste of time. If you travel with others you'll spend most of your time trying to get rid of them.

Spend time in Bangkok, and then check out Pattaya (if you like ex-cons), or Phuket/Samui (for coastal sex) or Chiang Mai (for mountain girls).

Lots of better towns and beaches but save them for your second trip.

Phuket will always have plenty of action, go there and enjoy.

But saying that, have met loads of Phuket bar-girls in Chiang Mai this week, but there will still be plenty left in the sunny South.

Got a great flight deal to LOS with Cathy Pacific Airlines. $613 from New York and they also offer $563 from LA. Will be flying out of NY on March 18 and returning home April 3. Plan several days in Pattaya and the rest in Bangkok. Could not beat the Cathy Pacific deal. Bangkok is their "Deal of the Month" and you must complete your trip between Feb 15 & end of April.

If you dont mind can you tell me, how much a guest friendly hotel go for in Pattaya / Bangkok ,and how much food and alcohol expenses I would be looking at for about 6 days. Trying to decide if i should go to Thailand this year instead of DR.

Thanks

Capt JB
02-13-05, 03:29
Myself:

Like everywhere in Thailand the cost of the hotel is going to depend on what you want. I am kind of into the really nice hotels and don't mind spending $100 or so a night but there are many available from $25 up. Of course the cost of alcohol is up to how much you drink but I find drinking there pretty cheap overall. I think you will find the girls there to be better looking than in the DR but it's all a matter of taste. Girl prices in Bangkok and Pattaya are quite reasonable.

If you want to go to Pattaya now is the time with the Cathay Pacific sale on.

Well, I can say from experience that Koh Samui was basically 100% booked last week (the week of Chinese New Years), and the traffic around Chaweng was horrific. But, Bangkok and Chiang Mai, while crowded, were not too busy to provide all I was looking for. As for Pattaya, I never saw anything except the string of lady bars right near my room at the Sunbeam, and the inside of my room, so I can't speak with authority.

Guys,

I am new to the Forum (thanks, Jackson, for finally upgrading my membership!) and, frankly, have been awed at the amount of camaraderie displayed on the board. So, here's another test...I will shortly be visiting Phuket and staying at the Sheraton Laguna (miles from the town). As such, what would be the easiest way to have an attractive companion for a night or two. (P.S. I am not into visiting the bars in Patong and don't necessarily find the average bar girl attractive). Any alternatives and/or contacts would be much appreciates.

Thanks

Starting in May, Thai has a non-stop JFK-BKK for 800 or so. (European tin - Airbus 340-500) so with the reduction in time (17 hours if I remember - no stop in Japan or where ever) although it's a bit longer in airtime, it's actually about 5 hours less in total time on the round trip (not exactly CHEAP, though, at about 900 US or so.)

Maybe they will start doing LAX-BKK N/S as well - it would be an even faster route

Dashing Don
02-25-05, 08:32
Dinghy, you're right and thanks for the info.

I heard about this nonstop NY-BKK flight about a month ago, but the fare was $2100+ according to the Thai air website. So I had given up on it. After reading your post I checked the website again, and entered some random dates in May. Lo and behold! the fare is $962.65--which is less than I've paid on some trips with the stop in between.
This is great news for new yorkers tired of schlepping through Narita, Inchon, Hong Kong etc. Especially that rathole, Narita.

I think that fastest I've ever done it with the stop is 22 hours. Seventeen is a big improvement.

The info on these boards is awesome. Since I'm retarded, I wanted to make sure I am aware of what I need to be aware of.

I plan to be in Bangkok for 28 days somewhere in April or May. This will be my first trip there. As far as living arrangements go, the Thailand Visitors Board lists accomidations starting around $17/ day. Is this accurate? Or are there other options I'm not thinking of.

Should I plan on going anywhere else like Pukket?

This will be a mongoring adventure of a lifetime and I thank all that send info my way.

IMHO, there are lots of places around the world where you can get laid for a reasonable price. But in my experience of mongering throughout the world, Thailand seems to me to be the only place where you will find any number of ladies who, on the surface, seem like the type of ladies you would take home to introduce to your parents, but yet, in private, they will fuck the living daylights out of you for ~ $25 and they will enjoy themselves doing it practically as much as you do. There certainly might be poorer countries like Vietnam and Cambodia where the pro ladies are cheaper. And places in Eastern Europe where Nordic blondes abound. But as far as I can tell, the culture of Thailand encourages "sanuk" or FUN. And the ladies take it to heart - even the pros. And that makes it unique.

The girls are petite and after enough doses of them, the western woman start looking like buffalo. They are Thai'ght. We like tight.

The men are generaly not machismo. You will not be bombarded with intimidating looks while you tote your hottie around.

They are generaly good hearted and even though they may submit you to eating strange things that give you a stomache ache they mean well.

Capt JB, did you see my advice regarding the Sunshine Vista in the Pattaya section some time ago. Beware, it might be noisy. Anyway, we can share a taxi to Pattaya if you like, I booked a room till sunday and will go to Pattaya on monday too.

My intel tells me that Pattaya is overrun right now. Many girls that used to work in the south (mostly Phuket) moved to Pattaya cause too many tourists avoid the south right now, thinking that it is still a desaster area which isn't the case. If I wouldn't have some business up north and enough time I would probably move south. It must be paradise right now, less customers, no crowded streets, beaches, gogos and bars and all the girls are free for me. A threesome each day sounds good to me :)

Anybody intends to move to Phuket ?

Are any of the places to convert currency at the BKK airport open after midnight?

I know there is an automated money changing machine on the 1st level after you clear immigration but this thing is a hit & miss. Does not work half of the time.

If need be I can change some money over when I change planes in Hong Kong but the rate in Bangkok is usually better. I want to make sure I have money for the cab driver to get into town. I wonder if that duty free liquor store in the airport is open late as well?

In addition to Juice's reply: ATMs are all over the place... You could change money later.

Harrods is a discounter compaired to the BKK airport 'duty-free'!
You probably won't find a shop in Thailand that sells goods at higher prices than the 'duty-free' at the airport:(.

Dinghy
03-13-05, 03:36
CAPT - after you leave baggage claim, go straight out (to the left IIRC) and down past the exit to the cabs/bus - there are SEVERAL ATM machines there (I think I counted 6 last time). GET THE MONEY BEFORE GOING OUT. The duty free takes $$ but the booze prices aren't that much better than at the stores (almost insignificant amount)

Here is how you get there:

2. Enter soi 7 and keep walking a half a block

I would highly suggest you go to www.rx-mex.net and check out their generic Viagra, Cialis and Levitra. If you buy a shitload of it, it can cost as little as $1.99 per pill. In reasonable quanitities (say 30 or so) it runs about $3 per pill (100 mg). The generics are the EXACT same stuff as the brand name, however are made in countries that don't exactly cotton to U.S. drugmaker patent laws. I have found their generics to be of exceptionally good quality. I get the generic Cialis and it works just as well as the brand, which costs 4 or 5 times as much. I've referred dozens of people to this site from my Canadian prescription business (Viagra, etc. actually averages a bit more in Canada) and my customers (most of whom are seniors) swear by it.

Two other bonuses; NO prescription is needed and they guarantee their prices, so if you find it cheaper on the web, let them know and they will match the price you find, plus take off another 5%. Hope this helps!

I took a bump off my oversold flight, so will be arriving one day later (Unless I get another bump tomorrow!)

A free hotel, food, $500 and an upgrade to Business class is hard to turn down!

Domino
03-20-05, 08:41
For accepting the money.
Were you offered a free round trip flight instead? The catch is that you will have to use the $500 coupon through the airline, not through a travel agent so you may or may not come out ahead. Also, in situations like that, if you bargain, you usually come out ahead. You should have tried to hold out for more than $500 ( the reverse of paying skanks).
Not a real criticism but it will be interesting to know just how far ahead you came out.

Jaimito Cartero
03-20-05, 09:26
Were you offered a free round trip flight instead?

NW doesn't usually offer free flights for Intl travel. I could have taken a check for $400, but with the amount I travel the $500 will come in handy. I don't use a travel agent, so it won't bother me to use it all. I'll also get a lot of extra miles for the Business Class flight too.

JC - IF you fly NW a lot, the chit will pay for itself. Biz is OK (not GREAT, but Ok - did they upgrade you BOTH directions??) only problem is that they won't give you the MILES on the chit. Was it 400 cash or upgrade and 500 chit? (that's OK if RT upgrade, otherwise, the 400 is more versatile)

I just returned from a week in California and noticed all the plans you guys have for this week. I leave 3/22 from LAX and arrive in Bangkok late (23:45).
I am staying at the Majestic Grande until saturday or sunday, then heading to Pattaya for a few days, back in Bangkok for a night around 3/30 before heading to Phuket for some diving for a few days. I return to Bangkok on the 4th and plan on hanging around either BKK or Pattaya until the 10th.

I plan on hitting the streets right after I check in and shower(wednesday night) and hope to run into a few of you, if not, lets try and hook up some other night. Any suggestions for a short time session for my first night (virging trip) around Nana Plaza area??

Looking forward to arriving,,

Was it 400 cash or upgrade and 500 chit? (that's OK if RT upgrade, otherwise, the 400 is more versatile)

I got the upgrade on both segments going to BKK. I had to bend an arm or two in Tokyo to get it, but I'm pretty good at that type of thing, usually. I wish I could get RT, but I'll take what I can get. Considering that they sell the RT Business ticket for 5 grand, I think I'm pretty far ahead, since I paid under $700 for my coach ticket, plus $500 voucher back.

I fly NW all the time, so the $500 will be gone soon. I also got 3 $100 discount coupons, and 2 $50 coupons as well, plus 10,000 extra miles. All worth at least $1000 total.

The tragedy has terrible consequences for the tourist industry and I wonder how this affects to our hobby.

I use to travel 2 or 3 times per year to Thailand and the rates I use to pay in BKK are from BTH 1000 to 3000 for a short time or even a long time service in the areas Sukhumvit or Hard Rock coffee and I get from medium to very good service.

Now I am planning my next trip to Thailand and probably I will be there in next April and would appreciate the opinion of the people with experience in BKK how is the price level now? Going up or down due to the tsunami?. From my hotel I have received a special price due to this very difficult situation for the tourist industry and some girls have contact me and asking me to visit them in a desperately way because of financial problems. Now is not high season for the tourist industry and the rate of exchange for the Bath is excellent in my local currency.

Who is updated in this matter: current prices in BKK now?

If it its a mongering holiday only then definitely choose The Philippines as your third country.

If you want a break from that, then Laos and Vietnam are both fucking nice.

Hi Folks,

I am a long time lurker of this board and am planning on going to the LOS for my first time.

I am in the Seattle area and am planning to fly EVA AIR to BKK from seatttle in the evergreen deluxe class, I am a big and tall guy and need more room on a budget, of course.

Now my question is.. Does this sound familliar to anyone?

Are there any WSGF people out there who want to go but dont wanna go alone?

Maybe someone from my area or anywhere in the USA wanna travel with a buddy in pairs?

My best friend bailed out on me and i will go with or without him.

Feel Free to PM me with Thoughts and have a HAPPY WSGF DAY!

Mr Vegas,

I can sympathise with you. I usually like to get out of NZ when the weather turns to crap, unfortunately most New Zealanders live an insulated lifestyle and their idea of fun is a trip to Fiji or Australia. LOS would be the last country on their mind. I can never get anyone to come to LOS so stuff it I come alone each and every year. My advice is at least try and hook up with someone in LOS who knows the ropes, otherwise you will get stung. You can always tell the newbies, they are the ones with a dog on their arm. The white flag is raised at the first ugly bird that pays any attention to them. Don't fall into this trap, shopping is all part of the fun. You didn't say when you were going to LOS. I am planning for a month from June 17, anyone from NZ who wants to live a bit and join me, please pm me and I will guarantee you the best holiday of your life brother. Life is too short and you are a long time dead.

Don't really fancy being by myself the whole time.Merso,

If I were you, I wouldn't worry too much about being lonely in BKK. The place is teeming with tourists and girls, especially girls. As for people to converse with, you can probably meet some fellow tourists or make local friends in a bar or something.

Sure enough, the girls will keep you company. I'm guessing it won't take you longer than 3 hours after you arrive before you are vigorously banging a girl. Now, I wouldn't call that lonely!

Look at it this way - your travels won't be hampered by another person giving you excuses or reasons not to do things your way. It might turn out to be a real good experience!

Just my 2 cents worth!

If you meet up with someone you'll probably end up plotting to kill them after half and hour. I suggest pushing them down that back staircase at NEP, and the ladyboys will feed on their corpse- works every time.

You're never actually alone when you travel alone in BKK.

Try the consoloditors who specialize in SE Asia. Pick up a Thai, Chinese or Indian newspaper at ethnic stores and call some agents. Usually, you get the lowest prices from them. Also, remember that high season rates start from May 15-30 depending on the airline.

For weather, well, any day now it is about to start raining and this could continue daily until the end of September.

For nightlife, it's always good.

The prev. post is correct. If you cannot handle the heat and/or rain you will want to go there around Cristmas time or a little later. But if your from Spokane and dont mind the heat, anytime will do. Scuba and nightlife are always active, often in the same places... If you are making the trip you might want to consider diving in the Gulf of Thailand rather than the Adaman sea at this time... unless you are willing to take the risk of coming across a possible unpleasant gift from the Tsunami.

If your main concern is diving I would consider Sulawesi Indonesia. Indonesia is a fantastic place, the women are at least as beautiful as the Thai ladies and it is a lot cheaper. Not to mention the Tsunami did not affect Indonesia's best diving like it did Pi-Pi. There is world-class diving in Indonesia... cool place too.

If you are set on Thailand and your priority is girls rather than diving, my suggestion would be to go to the Pattaya area. There are nice beaches there, plenty of cute girls, and excellent weather almost year round. If you are not set on the sea at all, Chiang Mai is pretty nice too, good weather and a lot of girls.

One Tree Hill -> if you like those prices, how about for less than $600 from Chicago? I always use this agency and although I have to travel on NWA, I dont mind, I just bring my own food. If you are going soon, try it: http://www.asiaairfare.com/ I have never paid more than $900 for a ticket to Indonesia or Thailand. Right now the price is pretty good.

Also, anyone residing in Pattaya or BKK, pm me. I will be heading that way in the next few months or so and I am looking for information on some outstanding "soapy" venues and what-not. I love a good massage at least as much as I appreciate a beautiful woman and I am looking for opinions... if one had to stay in BKK or Pattaya for an extended period (over 2 weeks), where would you choose? I know this seems like an obvious choice... but is it really? I would appreciate any feedback about this.

Cheers,

ThB

If one had to stay in BKK or Pattaya for an extended period (over 2 weeks), where would you choose?Very good post Thunderbunny, but- there are no nice beaches in Pattaya. Pattaya's bay is literally a sewage outlet, despite being "on the beach", no-one ever swims there. If you must enter the ocean then wear a condom, place a cork in your butt and don't swallow a single drop of water.

And Pattaya or BKK for 2 weeks; well personally I'd rather take a razor to my balls then spend more than 24 hours with the Pattaya scum. It's great for girls, but only if you like the rejects who can't get enough business in BKK.

BKK kicks Pattaya's ass.

Firstly, this forum doesn't allow emails, but you can use the private message system instead. Works just as good. Now to your questions. In my opinion, you will have a better time in Bangkok than you will in the Phillipines. Some might disagree with me, but that is my opinion. The bars are not technically nude, but you can always find a way around that. There is a bar on Soi Cowboy that has a see-thru ceiling and the girls dance upstairs wearing mini skirts with no underwear. So you can look up and see everything. As for topless, I have been able to see that everytime I went to Thailand. Not in all places, but in many. As far as freakiness, depends on what you want. You can go to a blowjob bar and get serviced right at the bar while having a beer. Or you can go to a hands free restaurant (not sure where it is located right now, but I'm sure somebody else might know) and have the girl feed you while you grope and fondle her. You can go to a live sex show and have a beer while watching two (or more) people go at it. In most mongering bars, I know you can touch the girls, as many will be touching you. I have seen girls pull out guys penis' right there in the bar in front of everybody. Depending on what you want, I am sure you can find it in Thailand. Just do your research before you go. If you are prepared, I am sure you will have a great time. But even if you go unprepared, you can have a great time, too.

Both Manilla and Bangkok are excellent, and Angeles City is better than Pattaya.

In general Filipino girls are prettier and cheaper (and IMO, better in bed on average). But Thailand is a little easier and more convenient for a first-timer.

The no hands restaurants might be a good place to start, with some sleek dwarves and skewered skank meat for appetizers. Biergarten has no class. Gentlemen,

I'll be arriving in LOS late june and will be bringing around 140 000 bhat with me. I'm planning on staying at least a couple of weeks in pattaya, chilling on a nice island for a week after that and then heading to bangkok for about a week. I'm thinking of staying at the residence gardens in pattaya, they quoted me 1350 bhat per night...looks like a nice place but is that expensive or ok or what?...im after a hotel with a nice pool and a bar with a nice room of course. Also whats the going rate for renting motorbikes in pattaya, nothing flash. I dont want to money to end up being a problem here, so i'm plannin on just laying low the first couple of weeks, chilling on the beach or at the pool , boozing and partying. Realistically what would that cost me? I.e how much for drinks for the nioght and a nice looking babe?

Try 250,000 (or more). You're only here for a month, there's no point having to budget. Plus if you're going to Pattaya you need to account for LB pickpocket expenses.

should you accidently come into contact with the boys in brown, and they stumble accross your weed, tell 'em it is only for personal use, not for sale. that's a very reliable defense.

from last friday's pattaya mail:

norwegian arrested for possession of marijuana

"boonlua chatree

pattaya immigration officials searched the condominium of john erling olsen, a norwegian, after receiving a report of possible illegal drug possession. a package of marijuana, a class 5 category of illegal drugs, was discovered on his bed. olsen, age 49, an oslo resident, admitted that he had obtained the drug in south pattaya the night before, but only for personal use, not for sale.

norwegian john erling olsen was arrested for possession of marijuana.

olsen told officials at the immigration office that he bought the package of ganja for 500 baht from a local drug dealer at an entertainment venue in south pattaya. he said his intention was only to blend some of with his cigarette tobacco, and that he did not plan to do business with the drug.

pattaya immigration officials escorted olsen to pattaya police station on soi 9, along with the confirep001ed package of evidence."

Rarai,

drugs are often offered and sold by undercover police. Some "drug dealers" also tell police, which you have to bribe later on. They will share their profit made on you.

My advice : STAY AWAY FROM DRUGS

Depending on the amount and kind of drugs they will find at your place - not to mention those they will place there by themselve to put much more pressure on you - you got to pay big bucks to get loose.

If you really dare to do drugs, bribe them as fast as possible. The more people know about it the more you have to pay.

Otherwise it guarantees you a long holiday in a very realistic thai environment. Don't fool around with it.

Better spend the money for a cute thai girl. No drug can compare to an experienced and horny TG.

Regarding money, that largely depends on the number of drinks and girls you want to consume. Hotels are quite reasonable and food is cheap, a motorbike (400-500 cc) will set you back around 500 baht per day, a smaller bike (150cc) around 200 baht per day. These infos might be outdated since I own one and haven't rented out a bike for years.

140.000 baht can go a long way in Thailand but if you really want to have fun it's not that much. But make your own calculation :

Prices as planned by you :
hotel 40.000 (1300 for hotel of your choice)
bike 6000-15.000 (200-500)
food 10.000 (300)
girls 60.000 (1500 girl + 500 bf)
drinks 15.000 (500)

My advice, look for a cheaper hotel, 800-900 baht per day will guarantee a nice room. Try to bargain, if you will stay a month you might get a good discount.
Take a small bike, you don't want to show off, do you ?
Take freelancers and bargirls, avoid Gogo girls.

This way you might be able to get the most out of your money. Beach road girls are the cheapest but often the ugliest too. Remember, you get what you pay for.

Thank you traveler,

Very informative, just what I was looking for. I figure on spending between 100-120 us a day, and maybe lay low for one of the weeks just tanning up on the beach and partying at night, saving my coin for a one of the other weeks and going a bit crazier then. One question, what would you expect to spend on drinks for a good night out? I.e. how much is a singha? How much is a Heineken?

I cant wait for this trip, it coincides with my 31st birthday and believe it or not gents, i've undertaken a fairly rigourous fitness training program, a lot of the motivation being that i dont want to be a fat bastard in thailand, funny aye considering that it's p4p.

Does anyone else have guilt pangs considering the lives of some of these girls?, i read on one website that the girls "just love sex"...yeah right, i'm sure 19 year old girls just love being mauled by 250 pound bald sweaty gunters. I feel bad that a lot of these girls probably don't want to be doing what there doing, but on the other hand, potentially it looks like being the vacation of my life.

Anyway,

Cheers!

Well, I finally made it to Bangkok. it's raining pretty hard here right now. Make sure to pack your umbrella.

I checked into the Nana Hotel at about 2:00 am. The girls were all over the place at the hotel. I guess the disco must have just closed down and all the girls were hanging about trying not to get wet fromt thunderstorms.

I had to have one freelancer since my body was wide awake. Had one young one for 1000B. Her name was Bom and she gave a wonderful BBBJ. I know I should have covered it up, but she grabbed it and got busy before I had a chance. I'll get myself tested for STD's when I return home. This probably won't be the last BBBJ I get here. I'll be here for one month.

Thai girls are incredibly sweet and charming. I loved how Bom gave me the wai when I paid her. It was wonderfuly charming. You don't get that in the States!

I found an Internet Cafe for 60B per hour. That's a pretty good price. Just walk west from Nana on Sukhumvit and you'll find a couple of good priced Internet cafes.

Also, make sure you take the metered taxis from the Airport. One of the touts hooked me for 600B from the airport to Nana. Man, I feel real dumb. I wasn't used to conversion rate and wasn't thinking that is was $15.00 USD. That's way too much for a ride. Live and learn.... For those traveling for the first time just walk all the way out of the airport and you'll see the metered taxis. You can't miss them there must have been 100 of them at 1:00 am.

The adventure continues...

Hey dude, welcome to the city.

The Nana Hotel is always crawling with girls whether it is raining or not outside.

60 Baht internet is actually expensive for LOS, normally it is 30-40 Baht per hour, but yes, by international standards 60 is still very cheap.

And taxis, with the meter turned on expect to pay around 150 Baht (plus 60 Baht for the tollway).

How do you say your username, or can it only be spoken whilst BBBJ-ing?

Rarai,

that depends on where you order your drink :
Average price for a beer at a bar is around 60 baht and in a gogo or disco about 100-110 baht I guess (I don't drink alcohol). Soft drinks are usually a bit cheaper but not much.

Regarding the girls and what they do.
Some like it, some don't. That largely depends on their mood and of course the customer. If the customer is a funny and handsome guy who treats them well they will most likely enjoy it too, but not necessarily. Some are real pros and they just fuck you for the money. 3F the girls way. Others may be nice but in a bad mood, tired, drunk or whatever and want it to get over as fast as possible.

My advice : Only pick girls who respond but avoid those you are pushing you. The ones that do not respond often won't be fun in bed (maybe too shy or not liking you) and the ones that are trying to push you are most likely hardcore and won't be fun too (just want to get the money but not willing to deliver), maybe even causing probs. Like often, the best is somewhere in the middle.

Real beauty is hard to find, good attitude too. So keep a girl if she has both.
I always prefer quality over quantity.

Good luck

Just been to Phuket and had a really good time, as usual!

I wrote a piece about this in the Phuket thread but since I feel that these people down there really needs all the help they can get, I am going to take the liberty of C/P the same report here. My apologies if anybody takes offense - just skip reading this, if so. Anyway.

Phuket IS STILL PARADISE!

Just back from nice little sojourn in Phuket and discovered it is now even better!
Seems like the girls are easier/mellower/more available/wider selection than before. Its definitely easier to get a very nice girl these days.

As far as hotels are concerned - BOY - what a selection! I heard that the occupancy rate in Phuket during this low season AFTER the tsunami is approximately 10% only - and as a result, the rates are great!

I would suggest that the best way to enjoy Phuket would be to rent a car straight away at the airport. As soon as you get out of the airport, there will be several car rental guys with placards selling their agency. I've rented from David Car rental a few times and been very satisfied - i.e. Bht 1,000 average for a nice little air conditioned/Automatic Transmission/newer car/jeeps/older cars at even lower price - inclusive of insurance and no mileage charge.

Take the car and explore Phuket at your leisure whilst pricing various hotel choices - from those luxury ones at Laguna (but where I heard that now they've got rooms starting at US$40), to the literal flop houses close by Patong.

There are decent hotels at Surin/Bang Tao and this is the area I usually stay at as I find it very convenient and a very nice balance between the "sunny tropical paradise Phuket" during the day and just a short distance away from Patong at night. Personally I feel that the sort of "sex in the face all day" experience in Patong is just a bit too much for me. Also, this area seems to be where the "stay put/established" expatriates of Phuket stay at. Some rich guy from Hong Kong known as Mr Lan Kwai fong has his multi million $$ house there and it's suppossed to only be slightly smaller than the largest house in Thailand owned by the King. He also have his high class shopping/eating center there. It's close to Laguna, not sleazy at all, and I guess right in the middle between/equidistance to the airport, the night life area of Patong, the Lotus super center, the International school, the Yacht basin.... and has very nice beaches close by. Fact is, I'm thinking of buying a place right around here and have spotted what seems to be a very high class development close by Bang Tao beach selling their 2 bedroom apartments for Bht 4.8 million. A good deal seeing as prices have not come down that much in Phuket even after the Tsunami. We''ll see!

After I've settled in my hotel, I usually then either hit the beaches or go down to Christin's massage during the day - Bht 1,800 - 2,200 for a nice soapy massage and FS - just slightly below the standard in Bangkok but still very acceptable. And yeah, I know you guys are gonna flame me for 'overpaying" BUT that IS the going price at this place and YES I do know that I can get great girls either for ST or LT anywhere from Bht 800 upwards - but hey what the hell - its all laid out properly at this Christin's!

Night time - well, so many nice cheap restaurants and so many great bars all along Patong at the different Sois! One can't help but have a good time in Phuket and I would encourage more of you to head down there and help out these people who are trying to rebuild Phuket. So Y'all come down there OK?

When I went to Thailand I left from Arkansas. I left aproximately noon on a Wednesday and arrived in Bangkok aproximately noon on the following Friday. Of course the time difference accounted for 12 hours, but it was still a very long trip. It was well worth it though, my first trip out of the country, (you can't really count border towns in Mexico, can you?).

Good luck and have fun,

Coma Boy,

It seems it is time for some Euro synchronisation:

'Welcome after' derives from a lame Swedish expression, that is normally translated (by them Vikings...) as 'Welcome again': "Välkommen 'å-t-e-r' !". Your Scandi hotel receptionist will say it. But so will the policeman who just collected the money from your parking ticket...
Finns use a similar expression , "tervetuloa uudelleen!", that in English would be 'Welcome new'.
Philo is in fact a 'Besserwisser' (it's a noun, it's German, so CAPITALIZE!!!) aka a 'know it all'. But there's plenty more of those here:(.

PS 'å-t-e-r' is really one word, but when spelled without the '-' it turns into: å***... WTF!

Philo
05-31-05, 18:28
Thanks Freeler

As a non Scandinavian I would say 'Welcome after' means 'Join the crowd (who came before you)'.

Anyway - even If I have paid 10k for a superstar in Rachada - has anybody been to Soi Sa-tenn-daa (Soi Standard) in Ubon?

Kaa dtoa (price for her body) 180 (up) Baht.

Which means Freeler is overpaying ...

Homer, that's easy. Leave the airport (I think they have a place to check your luggage, not sure but others on the board might know) and head to Sukhumvit Rd. Should get there by 10PM. Head to Nana Plaza and check out the girlies. If you find one you like, take her to a short time hotel (there is one right in Nana Plaza, or you can use the one that Eden Club uses on Soi 7/1). If you don't find anyone you like by 12AM, then head across the street to Angel's Disco in the Nana Hotel. Check out the talent on display. If you don't find anybody by 1AM, then head out to the Nana Hotel Car Park. If by 2AM you don't find anybody, then head to the Grace Hotel Coffee Shop. If by 4AM you don't find anybody, then head to Sabai Sabai Massage on Soi 11. If you don't find anybody by then, then head back to the airport. I know you will find somebody that you want to spend your few hours in Bangkok with, probably within 1/2 hours of beginning your search. I would recommend hitting Sabai Sabai about 6AM for a good massage (they are open 24 hours), then hit the road to the airport by about 7AM. You should arrive at the airport by about 8 - 8:30AM, depending on traffic. Then you have to go through immigration and the like. Make sure you have 500baht to buy your departure tax receipt.

You could easily be checked into a hotel and on the streets by 11pm, which is often the time many of us first go out at night anyway. Then depending on your liver's needs you could be back in bed with your victim after one minute or after several hours. At that time of night, in the main sex-zone you will have no problems.

Then wake at seven, DATY for half an hour, shower, taxi, check-in and fly, fly away.

Homer, the airline is going to give you a hotel for the night (regular policy for most airline). Check in the hotel and go to Nana Plaza or the other places mentioned. Just take a taxi from the hotel. Find your TG, head back to the hotel or use a short time place.

Next morning, wake up late and go to the Airport. The airline should provide transportation both ways. At least Thai Airways does.

Does anobody how to avoid paying for immigration/emmigration tax in Bangkok airport?

Once you enter Thailand's sovereign space, you must pay the 500 baht levy to leave. No way around that. It seems odd you are going to buy tickets - in cash? - there. If you have your tickets already bought, you can always stay in the Transit lounge and not go through passport and custom control.

I will be in Thailand myself soon, feasting on skank meat. Maybe I will get a 2 legged one this time.

Girlfinder - actually, if you are connecting and dont WANT to go thru immigration, you don't need to - just look for the "connection" signs in the hallway BEFORE you get to the immigration area. IF you leave, you will need to pay to re-enter (500B) but IF you DON'T leave (meaning - "don't go thru immgration") you can avoid paying. As long as it is another INTERNATIONAL flight, you can be accomodated. (Just expanding on Domino's info)

Depending on the amount of time it would probably be worth it - there is a caveat, though - IF your bags are checked to BKK - all bets are off - go out, come back in and pay the 500B exit fee. See if you airline will do a connection for you in BKK (interline XFR of bags) then you can avoid the necessity of going out and back in. THIS ASSUMES YOU HAVE TICKET IN HAND!! (which you more or less said you didn't)

LittleBigMan
06-27-05, 00:15
Girlfinder,

Based on what you wrote!

Whatever your reasons might have been you have only a ticket that has a final destination to Bangkok on a particular airline. When you get to Bangkok your intent is to purchased another ticket "cash" to another country on another airline. Now I am not an expert on the Bangkok airport like many of the other posters since my objective is to get out of the airport and into my hotel as soon as possible so I can get on with my mongering business instead of walking around getting to know the place!

Concerning Mr. Dinghy comments, since you want to buy another ticket in "cash" with another airline I doubt if you can do this anywhere in the connection area since these counters do not carry cash! Even if you could pay cash in the connection area based on your comments I seriously doubt if you have Thailand money (baht) with you and I don't believe that these counters in the connection area are equipped to handle foreign currency of most countries. Second, if you have checked baggage which I would conclude is going to be final destination BKK, then for sure you will have to go through immigration to obtain your your bags then go back upstair and find the airline that you plan to travel with and hope that they are open!

Now whatever the problem might be why you only have a final destination ticket only to Bangkok and not to the country you really desire but trying to purchased a ticket in "cash" usually would get you red flagged security by the airline!

I highly suggest you take care of this before your trip!

Good Luck,
LBM

To Freelers "OTOH: It's only fukken B500". Yes it's a low price but not the way I want to get f'ed ;-))

Actually I will buy my second ticket online, and check my luggage all the way through with my first airline, if possible.

The reason for my stop in BKK:
1. BKK is a big airport. All airlines have reasonable priced tickets to BKK.
2. From Bangkok there are cheap local tickets to every neighbour country.
(No I am not afraid of local airplanes, why should I - it is probably more dangerous downtown anywhere).
3. Whenever I want, I can return to BKK for some days there before I go home.

Girlfinder,

I think you are going about it the wrong way to save some money! The airline that is taking you to Bangkok will not check your baggage to your final destination beyond Bangkok, especially if the airline did not book your full trip to your final destination. There is a thing in the airline industry now call code sharing! There is the Star Alliance that include United, Thai Airline, there are code sharing with Northwest, Continental, Delta. Nearly every airline except the low cost carriers in the U.S. has a code share with a major foreign carrier.
You are better off shopping around buying a 1 ticket that would get you to your final destination so you would not be picking up your bags and dragging it to the other carrier.

Good luck,
LBM

Floated out to sea? ?? The answer was accurate (based on limited knowledge) and perhaps a little too detailed. They don't TELL you about the 12 hour exemption, either - so in that I'm now better informed

in response to LBM - depends - some airlines have interline agreements. While I wasn't changing in BKK, I had to have bags interlined in Tokyo going from UAL to NWA (not part of a codeshare agreement) - it happened. In US trips, I managed to interline from DL to EVA once at SFO. Of course, this was about 4 years ago so things might not be so easy. Also - somebody actually pays in "cash"? Credit card is the way to go in tickets

Dinghy,

You say: 'Credit card is the way to go in tickets'.
And why's that? Money is money. Plastic or paper. Doesn't matter.
Some people give you a strange look if you pull out plastic, others when you put cash on the counter.
The latter probably by people who cant get cash 'cause they have none and the only way for them to pay is pull out their only non-maxed card.
There!

with a credit card, it is not necessary to worry about having the correct (local) currency.

That's what I meant

Also, no security problems carrying cash - I had to pay for some medical work earlier this year with plastic because I couldn't get that much cash out a machine to pay the bill

Floated out to sea? ?? The answer was accurate (based on limited knowledge) and perhaps a little too detailed. They don't TELL you about the 12 hour exemption, either - so in that I'm now better informedI forgot this forum doesn't post replies immediately. I assumed you were another one who, given evidence to the contrary, would still disagree. Given the timeframe involved, I assume I'm wrong and therefore I apologise.

I will arrive BKK on July 17 (2230 hours) and leave for Cambodia sometime the next day. I've never checked out Nana Plaza and was thinking of taking a cab there and getting a room and a girl (ST) before flying to Phnom Penh the next day.

Any suggestions? What hotel? I just need a room from around 2:00 a.m. until the next morning. Also, at that late hour, should I just look for a girl in the parking lot? And if so, where is this parking lot I've heard about?

Thanks,

Ljohnson,

try Nana Hotel or Dynasty Inn, both are extremely close to NEP. You just step out of the hotel and you stay in front of NEP. If you need/want a better hotel try the JW Marriott in Soi 2

http://www.dynastyinn.com/beta_DynastyInnBangkok.htm
http://www.nanahotel.co.th/html/

The (in)famous parking lot is just opposite NEP, in front of Nana Hotel.
Actually it is the parking lot of the Nana Hotel. :)

Guys,

I am looking for a nice hotel, say in the 2-3000 Baht range, NOT in the Sukhumvit area. Classy enough, but girl-friendly. Easily accessible, lots of shops and restaurants around etc.

I am very fed up with Sukhumvit. Last year, I tried the Sofitel Silom (very nice btw, but pricey) but I do not like Patong much.

Any idea?

These aren't in the Sukhumvit monger-zone, are guest-friendly, and less than 3000 Baht per night (I think).

Dusit Thani
Nai Lert Park
Novotel Siam Square
Triple Two Silom
Swissotel Concorde
Sofitel Silom
Sofitel Central Plaza

But, if you really want something different definitely check out Ibrik or Reflections:

I'll be in Bangkok July 29 and have to return to L.A. Aug. 3. I'm curious about Mae Sai and Chiang Rai. And I'm looking for advice.

If I fly to Chiang Mai from BKK can I get land transportation on to Chaing Rai; and later to Mae Sai? Would it make more sense to fly directly to Chiang Rai? Is mongering decent in Chiang Rai? In Mae Sai?

I'm thinking of securing the services of a moto driver (in Chiang Rai) and letting him act as my guide and driver? Does this plan make sense?

Any hints will be appreciated.

Yes, easy to travel across land from CM to CR, takes a few hours in a car. Or you can take a 40 minute flight, or fly direct to CR from BKK. Then MS is a short drive from CR.

You shouldn't go to CR to monger, as the scene is kind of lame, but if you are there and need girls, then there is a small bar-beer area (close to Wiang Inn). Better though are the few local discos, easy enough to pick up girls there. In Mae Sai there are a bunch of Burmese brothels. Check the "Other Areas" thread for more detailed reports on both these locations.

You don't need a moto driver in CR as a guide as the place is small enough to walk around, the only advantage would be that he would be able to take you to brothels and MPs.

Joe Zop
07-04-05, 17:05
Ljohnson, there are regular buses to Chaing Rai from CM. If you fly instead you should be warned that you'll pay more for transportation to and from the CR airport than you will for the flight, as it's one of those situations where they've got your balls in a vise and know it.

LJohnson,

I spent last Xmas in CR. Very nice place. I flew direct from BKK, then rented a car for the 2 weeks at the airport. There are many nice places to visit in the area.

Mae Sae is underwhelming, I found, but the Mekong area, the temples in teh city on top of the mountains, teh Roayl villa on Doi Tung, the ruined cities of pre-Thai kingdoms are great.

I stayed at the Dusit Island Resort, on an island in teh middle of the river. Great place, very affordable then. Having a car gives you a lot of freedom.

I cannot comment on the mongering opportunities, as I was travelling with my own pillow from BKK. The very best option for trips upcountry, I find.

I know this is not much time but it's all the time I can spare this trip. And it will allow me to at least briefly observe the nothern area.

I plan to travel by land from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai and then on to Mae Sai. Where I will sleep remains to be seen. But I look forward to exploring new territory (new to me) and absorbing the culture; and, hopefully, violating more than one Thai and/or Burmese cutie.

Any advice is always welcome. Thank you again for sharing info w/ me.

there is no need to let the cab wait for you.
1000 for BKK- Pattaya and 800 for Pattaya-BKK are standard fares plus highway toll.

Taxis are available in Pattaya around the clock, I usually order them by phone. Just tell them when and where to pick you up, they have never been late and use good cars.

Hi there,

Having a five weeks holiday starting in late September, I have planned to visit Thailand to Cambodia and Vietnam and then back to Thailand.

What would be the optimum route to that: Thailand will be anyway the starting and ending point.

Do you recommend to use train or plane and what kind of routes there are. How to book train tickets

What about the visas to Cambodia and/or Vietnam.

Any good tips or links you have?

jb

Ljohnson

Jbecker,

I can address the Cambodia visa. You can get that visa on arrival. It's quite simple. Have $20 USD and two passport photos with you when you arrive. As you deplane and enter the airport you will see the counter where you can get your visa. Just fill out the forms. They will collect the $20 and either one or two passport photos. After a few minutes they will stick a visa in your passport and then you can pass through customs.

When you leave Cambodia (from the airport) you will need to pay another $25 USD, also cash.

Check Bangkok Air's website regarding flights. They're having a deal where you can get coupons. Coupons for domestic flights are $50 and for international flights its $80. You must buy at least three coupons. I just got two for my trip from BKK to Phnom Penh and back ($80 each way) and two for my trip from BKK to Chiang Mai and back ($50 each.) Total was $305 USD ($260 plus "tax") - all in all not a bad price for two round trips. Normally Bankok Air or Thai Air will charge $300 + just from BKK to PNH and back.

You can't buy them online. Gotta go through an agent. Here in L.A. I was able to pick my tickets up and pay cash. It can also be done by mail but you'll need a few days to complete the transaction.

Good luck.

Train seems to be very slooooow, so I would forget. Better go by air or bus with A/C.

If you like culture, take bus, 10-12 USD, from Bangkok to Siem Rap in Cambodia to look at temples like Angkor Wat. This is 6-9 hours pluss hassle (bus companies tends to arrive late at night and deliver tired passengers at expensive hotels where they get commissions, and roads here in Cambodia is quite bad). Visa to Cambodia is easy, just join the bus, pay your 20 USD visa and 2 USD for picture unless you bring you own passport picture. After your stay in Siem Rap, go to Phnom Penh, boat 25 USD or bus 10-12 USD and about 6 hours.

Or, drop BKK now and go directly from BKK airport to Cambodia - Siem Rap or Phnom Penh. Then you dont need Thailand visa yet and dont have to pay airport tax to leave. Make sure you check your luggage all the way to your final destination when you check in at home. Look at promotions on Bangkok Airlines for travel to Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos, or google for Thai air or President airlines.

From Phnom Penh you can go boat to Vietnam, cheap tickets 20-40 USD including 1-2 days hotel. You get this offer in many hotels in PP, buy visa to Vietnam there 2-3 days in advance.

From Vietnam, fly back to BKK and make you big entrance ;-)

There is no simple answer to this question, you need to check with the hotel and in any case you should always notify any hotel if you are going to arrive that early. It is not just a case of paying extra, the hotel could be full on the previous night so there would not be a room available until someone checks out.

I believe that Angkor can be pretty well seen in one complete dawn to dusk day, if you hire a car & driver and a guide. I personally allowed 2 complete days to see the complex, and I found myself having done it in it's entirety by the end of the first day (having started at 8:00 AM). A Car and Driver and Guide together tend to cost $50 or so for one full day, and if you feel that they did a good job, another $10-20 tip is called for between them.

This assumes a thorough exploration of Angkor Thom, Angkor Wat, and Ta Phrom - but none of the more remote sights. I would absolutely urge you NOT to skip Ta Phrom, as some do. It was, to me, the most awesome of the temples. IMHO, those 3 temples take a day if you have a car and people who know where they are going to show you around.

If you do try to do it in ONE day, you need to arrive the day before in Siem Reap, with a driver & guide already arranged by your hotel. and plan on leaving the day after your Angkor trip. There is little else to do in Siem Reap, other than the war museum and the floating village which is around 15 KM south on the lake - as well as scoring some of the local Khmer talent. This is how I occupied my extra day in Siem Reap.

Deosn't sound too bad, except of course for the fact that you have to fly economy for 2 million hours, and you don't get to accumulate miles, but hey, waddaya want for 300 bucks...........

You're probably better off flying first-class on Thai Air, direct from JFK to BKK. Plus book a couple of spare seats for your luggage and in-flight magazines.

Apparently on those courier flights you actually have to curl up in a rusty cage in the aircraft's luggage hold with a ladyboy, and like you say the flight is over two million hours and stops seventeen times.

1ball,

I did that a few years ago. I flew from Europe to BKK with a Royal Brunei cargo machine. It was a 747 big top, the lower level was used for cargo but the top had a couple of first class seats with all the amenities. Only difference, they had the normal economy food but I only had to pay an economy price.

It might be different at other airlines, but Royal Brunei was a great deal.

Hire a tour guide when you arrive at the airport. No Kidding! There are plenty available all over the place and they know the sex scene. That is what I did my first trip to BKK.

Change your travel plans at the last moment to late December. Then you can hire me. All you have to do is pay for all the pussy I can hump. This option is more expensive than #1, but I know more than the tour guides and I won't rip you off.

Cheers and thank you a lot for your advice(s) :)

Jbecker,

Sorry, I can't help you with Phnom Penh, I've never been there. I booked a guide and driver for the Angkor temples through my hotel where I was staying in Siem Reap.

What the fuck!

Here's a suggestion- try the fucking Cambodian thread, perhaps even the Phnom Penh thread.

You should be fucking beheaded, and de-balled.

Anyway, enjoy the trip.

Northwest is running a special to Asia. Just got flight from Detroit to Bkk, 1 stop, $820 total. See everyone in October. M&M

Coma Boy,

Relax. Jbecker's question started out asking about possible side trips during a Thailand trip - the is the "Thailand Travel Plans" forum, after all. I answered his first question about a side trip to Angkor Wat, and he had a follow-up - which he naturally asked in the same place that the thread started. While I agree that he's much more likely to get an answer to his question in the Phnom Penh section of the Cambodia forum, it wasn't quite the hanging offense that your response would have implied.

Lighten up, we don't want any more Traveler vs. Domino stuff erupting from simple innocent mistakes.

The airfare prices have been high compare to the past few years. Northwest cheapest fare was in the 900.00 range just a month ago. I have a friend that works for Northwest and usually checks the cheapest fare that is unpublished to the public and this is a fare that they give someone when they screw them over and that was over 900.00.
Now Northwest has been sending out many offers in the past 2 weeks to obtain cash and yield bookings to try to break a strike that is to happen after the 20th of August by their Mechanics. The rumor is they already have
replacements standing by! Personally, it's going to be nasty but I don't think it will last long! By October it should be over! I'm planning to purchase my ticket after September 5th! When the strike is over the big ticket sale will begin!

Waiting for a lower price!

Northwest

I fly a lot on NW and it's tough to get deals but sometimes what it works is to call 3 times and you will get sometimes 3 different quotes. I like their mileage program so I stick to them.

It wasn't quite the hanging offense that your response would have implied.Believe it or not, the "de-balling" wasn't a serious threat.

You're forgiven.

JuiceSpike,

With my connection at NWA, I doubt the fares I have been getting will be cheaper on the outside no matter how many times I call! In the Airlines computer there are fares you will never see! Example: If you go to a discount NWA travel agent and ask to travel on specific date and they tell you it is book full, it is not particularly true! You go directly to NWA and that same flight will be open because NWA controls the number of seat they allow travel agencies to sell. Also the Airline computer has a number of fares available not available to the general public to obtain. These fares can only be overrided with a manager entry code. These fares when given must be explained by the manager they are usually fares given to the customer because they have been screwed in the past or even the present!

I also have lots of milage on NWA, but try to use it to get a free ticket on them. You will have to plan a year in advance and it still would be a miracle if you can use your miles! There has been many complaints about NWA with their World perk miles! You being a World perk member I'm sure you heard about the rule buster! Call up and tell them you want to travel on a certain date and that you want to use your miles, they will most likely tell you it's "not available" But if you want to double the miles the date now becomes available. In the past the miles for a free ticket on coach to BKK was 60,000 / if you give them 120,000 they will make that date available. It's really a legal scam! I think recently they up the free coach tickets over 60,000 to maybe 90,000. So far the only thing my miles and World Perk card does is allow me to board early with the business class passengers! And when the flight is oversold or there's a problem and business class is open and coach is oversold they take high mileage member and move them to business like my last trip!

Good luck, Strike is to start August 20th or 21st!

LBM,

Try using cash and miles: you give them 10,000 or up to 20,000 and you get a RT ticket to BKK for about $450USD. I only use this method when the tickets are over 1,200 USD. If you are a gold member use that memebership number when calling them. Insist on getting a deal and sometimes they will do it. Or call back again and try the same. All US airlines are a scam, not like a Thai scam but a lot more sophisticated.

I have almost 100K and I still have gotten to use 1 fucking mile yet. My credit card is up with them in Feb and I am done with them. I am switching to Capaital ones program. It has to be better. As for the strike..well both sides are ready to play hardball and I dont want to get stranded at first what for a flight. I know its a gamble buying the ticket, but like you guys said prices are not going down. #1, the strike is costing both sides money #2, other companies are not matching the deal so the deal will not stay, #3 look at the price of gas!

Anyone got any ides where there are cool things to see/do other then visiting temples? Looking for something off the beaten path.

This should really be a complaint against Juice Spike attacking US airlines but as I am not into that shit, I will stick just to the facts as always.
1. JC uses NW alot. We exchanged views about this on the Indoensia board, helping my good friend iball. I don't understand JC's MO but it seems to be a good one.
2. As NW goes through its major Asian hub of Tokyo (where King Monger lives), bottlenecks are inevitable. This makes it really difficult to get fly through free flights on your milage. Tokyo is a big NW bottleneck and that is the root of LBM's problem.
3. NW prices are normally much higher than discount shops. NW ration out seats so they will always have some left; but not ex Tokyo as they are often heavily over booked. All airlines price discriminate and even if traveling coach class, it is always interesting to quiz the perverts sitting near you to see how all pay different prices.
4. Your best chance of getting a through flight is in what NW consider off peak. But again Japan, where King Monger lives, fucks you up. America's low season is Japan's high season so there is no low season. Unless you use your brains like

Using a credit card to obtain miles is a big ripoff! Majority of the times you are paying for those miles by the interest rate they are charging! Now if you pay the balance each month then you are beating them at their own game.
Currently Northwest has a contract with MCI, if you sign up for their plans they give you miles for each minute you call overseas but when you break down all the fees and other charges it is not worth getting the miles. I have for the last 3 months switch to phone cards only and I saving a bundle of money each month. There's always a catch or a scam!

Regarding Domino comments about the log jam in Japan it is somewhat correct! The established code share with Continental and Delta for their flights to Asia, for example SFO.BKK NW-27 and the downsize of their aircraft from a 747 (pre-911) and to a DC-10 (post 911) to now a new Airbus 300/200 series has cut down the number of seats being offered to frequent travel holders. Last year I sad down with my connection at Northwest Airlines and ran through the passenger listing on Flight 27 Northwest. There was only 1 free ticket being offered in Business and 3 in coach. Three major airlines trying to get a free ticket does not leave you with much of a chance. I have 600,000 miles now.

Most likely will use Cathay Pacific this time price right now is 821.00 on BT Travel it is 810.00 for same flight and time. Things might change if NW goes on strike. My association with some of the NW Mechanics Union is this is a go for broke approach! Which I agree with!

Last Saturday I was shopping for travel at around 6 AM for a month long trip starting mid-month. The best price from my town (via a feeder to Detroit, on Nortwest all the way) to BKK, was $1289.15.

I got interrupted, and when I came back at around 10 AM, a special promo had been posted. I got round trips from home, through Detroit and Tokyo, to BKK for $762.15 per person!!!

A few hours later all the promo seats were sold out and the offer ended. Timing is everything!

I just check Cathay Pacific for the same dates as I booked with northwaste, it was $2693.15. That is a difference of $1873.00. That breaks down to $104.00 a day i am saving by flying northwaste. THATS ALOT OF LBFM's! I am not rich, so I would say that is money well spent. With that said, I plan on to have fun in Thailand. M&M
