Thanks Daddy07 for your reply.
I probably won't qualify for the retirement visa which I understand is for people over 55 (correct me if i'm wrong) as I'll be 30 later this year.
Speaking of the 3 months tourist visa you mention, how many times one can make the visa run? Is there a limit as to how many times one can do it?

Thanks again.

You can live in a luxury condo on the beach like a King here in Pattaya Thailand on $4-5K/mo.

You might qualify for a long term non-immigrant visa depending on how old you are, and whether you meet other requirements; or you can simply get a 3 month tourist visa and make visa runs to keep it renewed.

I'm doing right now what you're thinking about, and living well on a lot less money.

You can get a retirement visa at age 50. I'll gladly trade you mine for your youth. :)

I'm not sure about the tourist visa situation as the rules change frequently.
Take a look at the Pattaya Expats Club web site which has a lot of information about visas: http://www.pattayaexpatsclub.com/

You can also go to the website of your nearest Thai Consulate or Embassy and I'm sure you'll get all the up to date info you need.

Yeah the gel (http://images04.olx.es/ui/2/58/47/21995147_1.jpg) is every where in Thailand and I've been taking it for years.

I always pay 70 baht per sachet, but normal price is 100 baht per.

Wake up Opebo. They are cheating you BIG.

I am paying 30baht/piece in Pattaya. I have to buy the 50piece packet tho for 1.500 baht.

My 2 sachets LOL

The information Daddy07, provided is accurate, 50 years old. As for the pattayaexpatclub.com no longer belongs to the Club. Without going into details someone took the website .com so it is now ending in . info!
Once you are in the website look for and contact Key Visa a guy name Darren and ask your question regarding how to stay in Thailand.

As for your budget, you should live like a king as noted..

I just buy them one at a time, or at most five at a time. I don't like things like that around for fear the cops will bust me with them.

My understanding is you get a 30 day tourist visa, and you can do two visa runs in six months.

So you can stay on a tourist visa for 3 months within a 6 month period, you could always spend the other 3 months in another part of Asia.

I have heard that there are lots of batches of fake Kamagra getting sold. Tablet form. It is made from chalk. Anyone selling Kamagra for substantially less than the drugstores might be trying to flog off the fake stuff. There are lots of guys selling branded Viagra and Cialis (ie not generic) from stalls along Sukhumvit at ridiculously low prices. These are definitely fake, and probably are only chalk-dust. They also sell generic V and C at good prices. Would you buy it from these guys?

Go to a reputable pharmacy and you up your chances of getting active drugs.

A lot of the effect is psychological, and I haven't done a proper experiment, but... I bought a lot of V and C in India and in my opinion it is either very weak or inactive. In future I will buy from Thai pharmacies.

The best ones are definitely Cambodian. You find them (under another name which I don't remember) in the pharmacies near the market in Phnom Penh, but I also saw them at the border in Poipet. They cost peanuts (something like $5 a box or less) and work really good. If you make a visa run there you can fill up for the year.

The best ones are definitely Cambodian. This has come up before, but suffice to say that buying drugs in Cambodia is a crapshoot. Roughly 80% of the pharmacies are unregistered, i.e. illegal. Overall about 30-40% of the drugs on sale are fake, and the percentage seems to be even higher among ED drugs. Much more info available online -- start for example at the Ka-set news site.

If what you've bought works for you and you're happy, no problem. But as a general recommendation, there are better options than Cambodia.

I have often gotten my cialis at one of those pharmacies to the east of the central market. Every pack was 100% good stuff.

Dear Moderator: For relevance purposes and the references I have made to the Thai baht, I have posted this first part to my report in both the Thailand and DR forums.

Dominican Republic. Is it really like Thailand?
Part 1

Getting to know a particular place well over the years has its advantages. From the moment you touch down and those jet engines roar into reverse thrust ‘Announcing I have at last arrived’ the rest just gets easier after each trip.

Like how to beat those long, long lines at passport control; where and where not to change money, which taxi (or if you are very clever) which just-as-quick bus to use.
You get to know where to stay and what times of year not to bother even trying for a lower price, first choice then second choice (and failing that there is always plan B); you get to know the best areas and bars to go to and above all, just as if it was your own business, you know all the prices and the current going rate for Lt p4p, Short time etc, etc like the back of your hand.

The other main advantage with being so familiar with a particular place is the fact that you can probably fit in more in a week than you normally would in two weeks, or more, with all the screw ups and nonstarters and culture shock which goes with traveling to any faraway foreign country for the first time. With all this in mind only a week away anywhere in the world can be good value. That is, until the inevitable happens and that same ‘old’ familiar place starts to turn into that same ‘old boring place.’

I wouldn’t call Thailand a boring place exactly, but having got to know the country and a bit of the language even, over the years, (for that read a lot), where else in the world are you going to get that same sun, sea and sand; city life if I wanted it and beach resorts (with more than just a few shacks or one or two expensive hotels for night time entertainment) together with the same sort of girlfriend experience and value for money which in the whole of SE Asia, in my opinion, only Thailand truly delivers by ticking all the right boxes.
During those good times of course the Dominican Republic as a possible alternative never really crossed my mind.

So going back to basics and really needing a change I started to read up on this alleged Caribbean island of paradise and indeed found some similarities with the land of smiles.

Like, providing you get it right, with stopovers from the UK the flight time is about the same 14 to 15 hours. The return airfare is about the same price too but with some subtle differences like indirect flights to the DR tend to be about the same price range as the direct flights to Bangkok; and quicker direct flights to the DR from the UK tend to be around the same price range as indirect flights to Thailand. Seems a bid odd I know but those cheaper direct flights to the DR tend to be operated by the charter type package holiday airlines with less leg room that go only about 1or 2 times a week max, and most fly into airports on the island which to put it mildly are not convenient. But more about that later.
Other similarities include the same rainy low season months, especially from July onwards (which in the DR is the Hurricane season) which technically makes it the low season with lower prices.
But at anytime of the year good clean girl friendly hotels or an apartment with A/c, wi fi, nice restaurant, bar and pool starts from $40.00US (but pushing it a bit) to up to around $50 to $55.00US per night on average. Beware though of the so called mainly luxury all inclusive child-free adult beach resorts which in the DR are far from ‘adult’ for the only thing they do actually ban are ‘hookers’ or overnight guests.

So comparing the Dominican pesos prices with the Thai baht using XE.com as a guide:

A few hours back at your hotel with a decent freelancer for massage and at least a BL and BJ 1,500 pesos (1,400 Thai baht)
Normal full body massage at a proper massage place 800 pesos (730 Thai baht)
Massage with hand relief at a proper massage place 1,300 pesos (1,200 Thai baht)
All night (or all day) full sex from 2,000 pesos or really pushing the boat out 3,000 pesos (1,800 -2,700 Thai baht)
Private dance in a top strip club 500 pesos (460 Thai baht - but this would usually be free in Thailand in a definitely free to enter Go-go bar.
‘Salida’ Exit fee (bar fine to Thailand mongerers) 300 pesos (275 Thai baht) slightly lower than in Thailand.

Even drinks in the girly bars seemed to be around the same price.
Local Predidente beer for 100 pesos (around 90 Thai baht. The local Sigha beer in any Thai Go-go bar averages at 95 baht ).
Large strong rum and coke 150 pesos (140 baht).

So far so good. Wink

More facts:
Actually being bigger than Switzerland, the DR is not a small country and just like Thailand where getting a girl can be as easy as shooting a fish in a barrel full of fishes, not every area in the DR, just like in Thailand, is good for mongering. The difference with Thailand though is that there are only two International airports that you would normally fly into - Bangkok or Phuket and arriving at either you won’t go wrong. In the DR there are around 7 International airports currently in full time use spread around the island which depending on the time of day or night you arrive, could leave you stranded and seriously out of pocket if you are doing the trip on your own and have to arrange your own taxi transfers. I read the taxi drivers union is strong in the DR and any of the reliable to often unreliable buses will not go anywhere near the airports. To me that looks like big taxi $$Dollar Signs.

So where are the best mongering places to go?
If we are taking not first division but the ‘Premier Super league’ there are only two areas and only two airports to head for in the DR:
The Puerto Plato, Sosua and Cabarete areas in the north of the island served by (POP) Gregorio Luperón International Airport no more than $20 to $25US and 11 miles or 20 minutes away by taxi.
The Capital Santo Domingo and the nearby beach resort of Boca Chica in the south of the island served by (SDQ) Las Americas International Airport no more than $25 to $30US and up to 30 minutes away by taxi for the 12 miles or so journey.

As a ‘not ideal’ ‘‘plan B’’ or last chance saloon as far as booking cheap flights on the internet, I noticed one alternative for each of these airports.
For the north of the island (STI) Cibao International airport serving the large inland city of Santiago around 35 miles by slow roads from Puerto Plata; or for the south of the island (LRM) La Romana international airport around 50 miles from the resort of Boca chica and 70 miles (90 minutes by taxi) from Santo Domingo. (I thought I’ll pass on that one.)

Making the booking (flight only):
Living in a big city and really longing for a bit of sun, sea and sand, my first choice for a hassle free trip was the Puerto Plata/Sosua area in the north of the island. For Boca Chica in the south I had read mixed reviews. Apparently, due to this famous or now infamous tourist beach resort going over the top a bit, with the kind of negative publicity the people in power did not want, there was a recent clampdown, big time, and as a result Boca Chica if I had read it correctly has started to go downhill.

The only reasonably flight I could find to POP was disappointingly unavailable by the time I went back to book it. Lesson learnt here; grab it while it’s there for this one-off charter baby was only £278.00 return, be it at the last minute.

So back to the drawing board again and there were two final options,
a 14.5 hour flight on US Airways via Philadelphia arriving (at my second choice) SDQ at 22:30 for £515 return, or the devil I knew, 11 hour direct flight on Thai Airways to Bangkok arriving early in the morning for £562 return, something I could do again with my eyes closed. Decisions, decisions.

I did it. I pressed that no point of return credit card booking icon on the computer screen and waited. The US Airways confirmed booking reference and flight itinerary looked quite sweet when I printed it off.
Santo Domingo here I come.

Full Trip Report to follow.

Yes, I know it is not really an 'investment' but more of a way to get permanent residence, but has anyone gone through that route of putting 10M Baht in either a bank account or property in order to get an "Investment Visa"?

As an Egyptian passport holder who has to endure painful steps in order to get the normal Tourist Visa from the Thai embassy in my home country, I thought this would be a better alternative.

Can you rent out this property you invest 10M in?

I'm going to LOS during Songran and want to make the most of it. Need to know others experiences with what is open etc.

So where is it best to stay? Could do Pattaya but is it packed with locals? Does that make it better? Are all the bars open?

Could do Chiang Mai taking the train up the evening before. Again, is it busy there? Are things open.

Should I go somewhere else like Koh Samai, Phuket or Hau Hin as they have something unique for both cultural events and also mongering is also present of course.

Thanks as always

Girls are often rated on a 1-to-10 scale. On every punter board, someone will write that a certain bar has a girl who is 10; another bar doesn't have a dancer higher than a 7; or the girls on Beach road are only 3s and 4s.

But what do such ratings mean? what standard is used to judge the girls?

Note: For illustrative purposes, all the photos of "10s" attached to this post have been downloaded from the Miss Universe 2009 Web site.

There are two (and only two) possibilities: the 1-t0-10 scale is an objective standard or it's totally subjective and individual. To be objective, it would have to be a conformation standard, i.e., the girl is measured by the degree to which she conforms to an ideal concept of beauty, with 10 representing the best, the ultimate, maybe even perfection. It's the same principle used in judging dog shows and some sports, like figure skating and gymnastics.

But there's a huge difference between the conformation standards used by dog show judges and those bantered about by Pattaya punters. The American Kennel Club has detailed written standards for each breed of dog. Everyone in the dog show world - breeders, competitors and judges - understands and accepts these standards. The same is true for figure skating and gymnastics. There are whole written manuals which explicitly state the standards by which routines are to be measured.

No such widely agreed standard, written or unwritten, exists for judging beauty in women. There is no universal agreement about what makes a woman attractive. There are as many opinions as there are assholes and both are in strong supply on the punter boards.

The 1-to-10 scale is simply a variation on "One man's beauty is another man's skank." When a poster gives a girl a rating of 10, he's saying he thinks she's very pretty, nothing more. The 1-to-10 scale can be entertaining, but it's a totally subjective exercise.

It has to be a personal scale: We can gauge a poster's personal satisfaction by his ratings. Otherwise, I concur with your view that it's about personal attraction. Excellent POV IMO.

I am going to post this in all three country forums and evaluate the responses over the next day or two before deciding. I would really appreciate your opinions.

I am planning my first trip in April for a week to either Vietnam, Thailand or the Philippines.

Would you please offer your opinions to someone who has never been to either of these places?

I love to monger but I also enjoy going to some of the touristy/scenic/historic locations of countries I visit.

I was thinking that Vietnam might be a good combination because I was in the service during the Vietnam War, although not actually in Vietnam. But there are many important places there that I would like to see. I'm just not sure how much I can do of the visiting while also taking care of the mongering especially since I will only be there for a week and many of the Vietnam era sights are spread out and may be in smaller cities or rural areas.

The other choices are Thailand and the Philippines. Thailand is definitely cheaper than Manilla to fly to from Los Angeles. Plus I read on the threads that it costs less to monger in Thailand than in the Philippines.

I think there might be some more important historical and other sights to see in Thailand than in the Philippines, but that is just an impression. I am not sure what I would do in the Philippines other than monger. I am not a beach person due to my age (59) and fair skin.

I would appreciate your thoughts. Please don't read into the above comments that I necessarily prefer Vietnam. In fact I was originally thinking about the Philippines, then about Thailand due to the cost of the flights. I then started thinking about Vietnam but it is still only a thought.

I am first and foremost committed to the mongering aspects and would like that to be given the largest weight in any advice you care to give.

Also if you think there is somewhere else I should consider like Jakarta or Singapore for my first ever mongering trip please let me know.

Thank you very much for your insights.

Easy Rider,

You only have a week, so that tells me Thailand. It is the most user friendly for everything you want to do. Certainly for the mongering, it couldn't be easier, but it is also a better organized country for traveling and sightseeing. Fantastic food, plenty to see and do. If your first SE Asia trip is a good one, you can always branch out to the other places, but you really need to try to schedule a longer visit next time.

Thailand.... Manila sucks as a city but getting outside the city there are some nice areas and relaxing things to do. Girls are easy to get but getting around and knowing what to do takes a little getting used to IMHO.

Vietnam sucks for mongering IMHO and they don't speak much english not even bar girl english. Vietnam has some nice historic areas however.

Thailand has a lot going for it more then just sex. You can hit up attractions no matter where you are at, down but Phuket area, Pattaya area, chiang mai area, BKK area, and still have a lovely lady next to you at night.

Don't even consider jakarta or singapore IMHO unless you got extra cash to blow for poorer service. In Pattaya there are things to do besides walking street. IN BKK there are things to do nearby other then NEP or Cowboy or 33. You can hit up Chiang Mai for two days and BKK for a few days or Pattay for a fwe days and bkk for a few days.

I work in all three countries you list and others. And by far I'd hit up Thailand for other places. As for things to do in Thai, depends where you want to stay and what interests you. Feel free to PM me.

HOWEVER... monger can be pretty much free in Philippines, many ladies are non P4P but you'll end up paying in the end anyways one way or another.

Popper you must be a glutton for punishment. MOST farang either stay indoors or get outa Dodge during songkran. It's like a massive bunch of kids doing a water fight - and guess what - YOU GET TO BE A TARGET OF OPPORTUNITY

Myself, the farther away from Pattaya or Grungthep the better during songkran

Take several changes of clothing (you'll NEED it)

Lots of folks go home for the holiday (It's sort of Thai O-BAN - Japanese ancestor festival - it makes more sense at home, because it means more to pour a cup of water over your parents hands and receive their blessing...)

Your choice...

ER2Hi Easy Rider,

I would definitley say Thailand. It was where I went for my very first mongering holiday and I never regretted it for a second.

A week sounds like a long time, however it goes really fast when you are having fun. Before my first trip I researched the forum carefully and took advice from reports by the guys here who are far more skilled than I. Form this I made a plan for each day.

Thailand has some wondefull sites to visit and is very rich from a cultural point of view. I chose to take a lady I met with me on my sightseeing trips and she was a perfect companion as well as guide.

For Singapore I would not reccommend it. I have stayed there on my trips to Tahiland and found the scene very variable. Generally more expensive in my opinion.

Have a great time and use every minute well.

Do not need a change of clothing if you decide to go out.
Just stay with your shorts (that will get a deep wash), a tee shirts (that will get as wet as the sea) and your flip flops (that will get your feet as wet as a foot bath)
Get ready to tons of water being thrown to you, no matter if youare by foot, on a moped, on a bycicle, on the back of a pick up.
Get ready to icy water showers when the air temperature is 30°C
get ready to your face plastered with white, red powder mixed with...water.
All in all it is an experience one has to live.
DO NOT bring your camera or camcorder unless it is water proof for submarine use.
Do not get pissed if you get wet. Soaking wet!
Have fun, enjoy and when you are back in your room, take a shower!

Actually, yes, I can see Songkran being fun for a tourist but hardly for expats like me.
Luckily, Thais are very well behaved (well, providing you don't hang around the prostitute areas) and when I go around with my suit, I am never wet so, Thank you for respecting. Having said that, it isn't the thais one should worry about but us, Farangs...

Imagine, a man old enough to be anyone's grandpa, running around with a water gun and aiming to shoot up EVERYTHING... because HE is on holidays and having fun, we all have to pay the price.
Nope, Songkran for me isn't so enjoyable so I prefer to either leave the city or stay at home.

Of course it was a Farang... and in Pattaya? that's got to be the worse ones.

We can say all we want about the Thais, but when it comes to being civilized, they are in average better than most LOS Farangs & Tourists put together.

The 1-to-10 scale is simply a variation on "One man's beauty is another man's skank." When a poster gives a girl a rating of 10, he's saying he thinks she's very pretty, nothing more. The 1-to-10 scale can be entertaining, but it's a totally subjective exercise.
Evil

Beg to disagree. "Very pretty" means nothing. 10/10 clearly means "among the best looking women I've ever seen". There could be a +/- 5 variation, but if one punter calls a woman 9 or 10, it shouldn't rank under 5 for anyone else else.

There *are* common standards of beauty, indicators of good health and reproductive potential, e.g. youth, symmetry, smooth skin, curves. Within those standards there's plenty of room for variety and individual preference. Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but most people agree a dog is a dog.

I am going to make my first trip to LOS on 4/11. I will be in Pattaya almost exclusively but may take a trip to another city for 1-2 days.

I was advised to buy an unlocked phone in the US before going and to just buy a sim card upon arrival.

Is this good advice?

Should I wait to buy the phone and card until I arrive?

Should I try to rent a phone instead?

If I should buy an inexpensive phone in the US what bands should it cover?

Any questions I am forgetting to ask?

Advice appreciated.

Thanks

I don't see the point of renting a phone.

You could always get your present phone unlocked if your present phone is not very good.

No point in taking a really flash phone with you to LOS you have more chance of getting it stolen.

I use 12call you can get the sim at the airport 99bht and also add credit I normally get 300bht to start of with.

Its not funny guys. He must be suffering from some sort of mental breakdown/illness. Many people go through lots of emotional breakdowns. Its really sad that folks are making immature comments on this forum. You should admire that he has not jumped off the building yet or trying to shoot people around and kill his wife for insurance.

He is not even Thai, i know i know what im saying sound cocky and out there., but i don't see any reason for funny remarks for a naked old man with a mental issue.

You can also buy a cheap phone in Thailand (for less than $50). That's if you really need a phone while on holiday here, of course (to each his own, but I've survived without one during numerous sojourns here when I was just a tourist).

Yeah the gel (http://images04.olx.es/ui/2/58/47/21995147_1.jpg) is every where in Thailand and I've been taking it for years.

I always pay 70 baht per sachet, but normal price is 100 baht per.
I usually snatch up two boxes (50ct/box) to sell to friends back home. 5000 baht. 1 box runs 3000 baht. This time my wingman got a box as well, so we were able to get all three for 6000 baht, 40 baht/sachet.

Air Asia often has great promotions - usually flashing at you on their home page. If you are going during the time they are available, they can be great deals. The one you are referring to is part of their "Vibrant Cities" promotion.

http://www.airasia.com/th/en/promotion/rr0170608b.html

It's more like $61, and it isn't available every day of the period - search dates carefully.

Hello,

Maybe someone on this forum can enlighten me on this subject;

I am a Swedish citizen, working as an officer on a ship. That means roughly I work for 10 weeks, then I am off 10 weeks. I like to move to Bangkok coming summer, but the new visa rules, makes me question if it is possible or not.

It is my understanding, that when I arrive to Thailand after a working period, I get 30 days "visa on arrival". I can extend this visa 2 times, each time for 2 weeks by making border runs.

But what about after that? I still have 2 weeks to go before I start working again, and one website they said I have to stay out of Thailand for 3 months, after I do the extensions. That will seriously destroy all plans of moving to Thailand.

Many people on this forum seem to live and work in Thailand, so how do you do it? I am not 55 yet(no senior visa) and I do not want to marry a thaigirl, at least not for a long time. What options do I have?

Any response would be greatly appreciated.

See ya around!

I've read alot of posting here, but wanted to know what I'm going to expect with ST and LT experiences out in Bangkok.

I'm new to all of this, but what should I expect when I do ST. Is it like in the US where ST is just one pop and they are out? Also for LT, I know the gal is going to be with me all night, but is there a minimum of pops you get?

I know, it's silly question, but I'm just trying to figure out what to expect so I don't get singled out as a newbie out there.

So I will have to buy a cheap phone in the US before I go if I do buy one.

Generally cheap GSM phones in the US do not work outside the US. It's a frequency problem. Cheap US phones usually only work on the GSM-850 and GSM-1900 bands. Most of the rest of the world uses GSM-900 and GSM-1800 bands.

Yes, it's stupid.

Better phones are "quad band" and can work anywhere.

You might get a good deal on an older model unlocked quad band phone on Ebay -- figure around $40 US plus shipping. And then you can pick up a local SIM card and get service pretty much anywhere other than Japan and Korea.

Air Asia has great fares but you have to go to their website and go through most of the booking process before you get the actual price. They tack on surcharges for fuel (which you might think of as a basic requirement!!) and they can sting you on luggage charges.

Don't worry, go ahead and use their website. You don't have to give a credit card until you are confirming the purchase.

Pack light and carry on.

Connection with a girl and the time of day can play a part.
Generally, short time with a bar/go-go means one pop and out the door...more money to be made.
Long time generally means action before sleep and action in the morning. However if you pick up and spend some time with a girl, something to eat, dancing or the like, you may be able to go throughout the night with you, and a good portion of the following day lol.

Best bet is not be shy and specify EXACTLY what you are expecting (menu, number of shots, time of departure, price). Not exactly "romantic", and eliminates the seduction "fantasy", but it does tend to minimize potential misunderstandings back in the room. No guarantee she'll deliver, but most often she will, and, like I say, at least you'll have minimized any misunderstandings.

If the prices of these two flights are within $100 or so, I would take the Thai Air flight and not think twice. I have flown United. They are one of the worst. I have flown Thai Air from BKK to CNX, Phnom Penh, Yangon and Bali. I have no complaints.

Personally, I would rather fly coach on an Asian airline, such as Cathay Pacific or Thai Air, than business on a U.S. carrier. You cannot compare the service. During my first flight to LOS, I asked the ticket counter if I could upgrade from coach regardless of price. Nothing was available. He assured me, having never flown Cathay Pacific, that I would be satisfied with an aisle seat. I WAS!!

I'm sure I'll have to negotiate everything before I BF a girl out for LT.Just remember, it should be FUN. It's not a hard bargaining, lowest bid accepted win situation. It's just to clarify what each can expect to receive/deliver. If she's not fun during the "marketing" phase, then I certainly would not expect her to be fun during the "implementation" phase. The same could be said for you (that's the 2nd person PLURAL form).

I won't buy her a lady drink unless I'm interested. But when you refuse, don't expect her to remain with you - one part of her salary is a share of the lady drinks she gets. Plus, she'll have a monthly quota of lady drinks; if she doesn't make, her salary is cut.

I won't necessarily buy her friends a drink, but I also understand it's a form of insurance for her - she's got a punter tonight, so she'll ask for her friend, when tomorrow night, the situation could be reversed. I'll make light of the situation with a "I only have eyes for you" statement. But I have done so, especially if I pull her again (1 extra round, anyway).

Like another poster said, spend some time with her, and enjoy. I had great fun inviting a girl out for a late meal and letting her pick the restaurant. Places I never would have found. I've been in places where I was the only foreigner there... Just remember the Thais like to eat, and a number of plates will be ordered. Now if she wants to take all her friends out to a high price nightclub, that's another matter ...

Just be careful about taking her out shopping. The Thais don't seem to grasp the concept of window shopping. As 1 told me, "Better to stay in the hotel room. If we go out, I see something, I want you to buy for me. If stay inside, not see anything." They'll also try and get you the "local" price, rather than the falang price, which actually might not be such a good thing when she's spending 30 minutes haggling over 20 baht :)

Know the range of prices, but I never worried about getting the lowest price. If she came in with a fair first offer, I didn't try to beat her down to the last baht. The only thing I was mostly strict about was that she understood she'd be paid in the morning (though a few times, she was SO compelling, I never bothered).

And regardless of performance, I always paid the agreed amount, unless she changed the contract, the greatest risk being LT becomes ST after a pay first demand. Even if she was a starfish, I paid the agreed amount; just never pulled her again. "Pay After" ONLY works when both sides live up to the bargain.

For me, the bottom line has ALWAYS been: a good price is what HER experience is worth to YOU THAT night.

I'm going to be so paranoid about leaving my stuff out like my ipod, digital camera, laptop before they show up.Sufficient to be cautious and prudent, not paranoid. I just wouldn't leave temptation laying around. Think of it as an unknown house guest that you're putting up for the night. But in years as a punter, I've never had anything walk off (well, material objects anyway, though I have seen several wg's walk when I didn't follow my own advice about menu, price :) ).

All in all, I've been pleasantly surprised about the honesty I've seen, though, like I said, I don't leave temptation laying around.

And pulling from a bar, rather than a street or bier garten, does have its advantages - you know where she works. I always viewed the bar fine as a kind of insurance. Not saying you'd get anything back, but still, it'd be bad for business if the bar employed reported thieves.

Likewise, I once suggested a disappointed friend complain to the bar when his pull turned a promised LT into ST, if for no other reason than to alert the bar that it might have a problem employee. He did, and actually got his bar fine back. No guarantees; still, it never hurts to report a problem employee to management.

... and I hope to report back here.I hope you do. Best of luck, and enjoy. We all started somewhere, sometime, with help from others. You'll make mistakes, for sure, but those mistakes do make for some great "war" stories.

Just remember the difference between a war story and a fairy tale: A fairy tale starts out, "Once upon a time..."

A war story starts out, "Shit, I was there..."

I flew once from USA to Australia on United biz class and "it is just about", compared to european and asian airlines. Also flew UA from Asia to USA and, again, nothing appealing on service
I flew a couple of times biz class on similar routes with Air NewZealand and it is much better than american airlines
But flying asian airlines (I do use a lot Thai from Europe to Asia) is another world: pampered, always a smile, they are there to please and serve (jsut as asian girls do, lol). Singapore, Thai, even Asiana, are great and so is Malaysian. Irt certainly has a lot to do with the customer service oriented mentality of asian people.
So I would not even waste the time to think about choosing between UA and Thai at the palce of the fellow guy here. Just get the asian experience.
I agree with you, it is alos nice to fantasize about the stewardesses.
Their charme is already a big reward for having chosen their airline.

PS: I do fly always biz on the long haul and that is indeed a premium, but I am sure their attitude is not lowered in economy. It is just the level of commodities and space that you do not get in coach. But the girls haev all the same (nice) attitude

American long haul: the cabin crew go off somewhere, do their own thing, couldn't be bothered even if you were having a heart attack.

Asian long haul: they might be off doing their own thing, but one or two regularly come cruising down the aisle just to check if someone needs something.

Bottom line: just think of the attitude difference between Asian women and American women...

I agree 100%. There is no chance for an US carrier to compete with the Asians.
Singapore, Thai and also ANA or Asiana are decades away from UA.

If you prefer Business Class, you should try to find a SQ flight on their 777. This is better than many American First Class services. For instance Zurich-Singapore, Frankfurt-SIN and also SFO-SIN.

I fly accross the Pacific once or twice a month. I fly both China air, or EVA air, in business class.

i would not fly a US carrier for all the tea in China. There is just no comparison.

I flew UA in "C" class from LAX to CDG a few years ago, and was extremely disappointed.

As posted below, think of asking your overweight, fuck you attitude western GF to go get you a beer, versus asking your sweet, attentive, 50 kg spinner Asian GF to go get you a beer. Which one would you rather bring you a cold one ?

FVhave flown SQ a few times in biz, but the rate price/quality between Thai and Singapore is not the same. Let's say that for a bit of lower service (next to nothing difference, I think it is more psychological than else), Thai gives a much better "special business" rate. Flying Thai to Aisa also gives me the opportunity to have a holiday break in Thai with nearly no traveling cost.

I have, and LAX-NRT-BKK upstairs on UA biz is just fine. No, the cabin crew weren't babes (to say the least) and the service wasn't as attentive, but it felt like a considerably tighter and more professional operation than TG's LAX-BKK.

But as I said, if you don't need to stop in Tokyo, the TG nonstop is the obvious choice.

You neglected another fact: The beer IN COACH on the Asian airlines, at least Cathay Pacific, is FREE. And the sexy babe pours it for you with a smile. "Want anything else, sir." Ah, yea, sit on my lap honey. :)

The U.S. market nickel and dimes you, while cutting the service. Want headphones for the movie, pay $1. Want a pillow for the 18-hour flight, pay $1. Want to watch the flight attendant's rear, pay $1. I sat in COACH, and they simply put some snacks and wine in the gallery and you helped yourself.

If nothing else, you'll have a pleasant time fantasizing about the YOUNG stews on Thai airways (I'm guessing they have an age limit when they have to STOP flying), whereas I've NEVER done that on an American long haul ride, given the matrons who have the seniority to grab the long haul routes.

I guess you don't fly THAI all that often. Plenty of older flight attendants, male and female. I'd say in their 40s or so.

The most beautiful trolley dollies have to be on Air Asia's payroll. Love flying that airline. Apart from their dirt cheap fares around the region and general reliability, you get to ogle at some prime asian ass as they flounce up and down the aisles.

And that cute red uniform! I would love to obtain one for my Filipina GF, dress her up in it sans knickers, then boss her around a while before bending her over a chair and .... ...excuse me while I go find the kleenex.

:) I can care the less for the age of the male flight attendants
I am just off two long haul legs with Thai and the (female) crew was young, attentive and smiling
Of course there is a light percentage of more experienced staff on board, maybe 2-3, but within asian (and thai) standards we all know, a 50 yrs asian FA is by faaaaar better than western ones, apart very few exceptions
Not to mention that ALL, regardless of the age, have superiour touch and attitude. In the last 12 months I have been flying TG 19 times on long and medium haul and I think I have a good degree of experience.
The "matron" definition is - with no offence - perfect for most of american and...British Airways flight attendants, not helped by the uniforms too.
The ever best looking FA I found was once on Avianca, Lima-Bogotà: high heel boots, miniskirt (half thigh, trust me), tight turtle neck jumper (needless to say she was a good C in tits department)
WSHe was greeting passenger boarding and I thought she was ground staff from the handling agent. No way. She closed the door and stay on board as chief FA for the flight. I could not believe how she was definetely sexy and appealing and could not see that clothing as part of the uniform! But all true.

Question for the Professors:

I understand the below equations (^ = to completion):

(HJ^) = 500 baht

(BJ^) = 1000 baht

(FS^) = 1500 baht

I've also found:
(BJ^) plus (FS^) = 1500 baht

I know the above are valid in Mango space, Tulip space, and think generally in any MP space.

For ease, let's leave the tipping variable out of it.

But I can't seem to complete the below equations, those involved in lesser functions:

(HJ^) plus (HJ^) = I can set the bounds [500, 1000], but not the exact value. Does (HJ^) = 2*(HJ^) ?

(HJ^) plus (BJ^) = I'd guess 1000, given
(BJ^) = 1000, so is the HJ^ function totally overshowed by the BJ^ function?

(BJ^) plus (BJ^) = Here, I'd say the bounds are between [1000, 1500], but what is the value? 1500 seems a bit high, but 1000 low.

This student has been out of school a long time, and have recently come (pun intended) across some of the lesser combinations and not known quite certain where the satisfaction point lies.

Not valid.

Everything is negotiable.

End value (satisfaction/price) is dependant on what YOU bring to the table and your negotiating skills in relation to the goods on offer and the skills of the other party.

Thanks lot.I very much doubt it (and personally I wouldn't even bother to ask). Not sure the exact legal status of selling generic drugs in Thailand, but it is unlikely to happen at 'official' sites such as the airport, and pharmacies such as Boots certainly will not stock them.

But if you are there for a few hours you probably have time to pop down to Sukhumvit and go to a pharmacy there, which will sell it. You might even have time for other things...

Yes it will cost you extra in cab fares, but a Sukhumvit pharmacy is likely the best place for getting what you need from someone who will understand basic English and not require a prescription. Am not recalling what it cost me, but there was no hassle at all getting it.

is anybody of you in BKK right now and can report about the local situation?Heard on the news that demonstrations closed 2 shopping centers, but they were NOT Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy, so I didn't care.

Sukhumvit was clear, skytrain always functional. Now, if they really wanted to throw a cog in BKK, just get a bunch of reds to fill the skytrain and NOT get off, just ride and ride and ride. That would be a problem...

But until then... I don't have any trouble getting around. Traffic can be a problem, but I wouldn't necessarily blame it on the reds. I got caught in a jam caused by too much cross traffic - too many vehicles entering from side soi's keeping the main road from flowing freely. But it wasn't like the OLD days - the skytrain, or the metro, gets you cross town, then take a taxi. Or if really pressed for time, a motorbike taxi.

I do keep eyes open, and obviously avoid any demonstrations, but that's mainly because I don't like crowds.

I would not postpone a trip. This is Thailand - things just work out.

Hi,

I have big trouble with a BG I met and with who I spend some time during my last trips since 1 year.

She says last September she is pregnant and the baby is from me. I know it is not possible but she makes me big trouble calling me, on my phone, calling me in my office (she get this number because I called her a few times with it (cheap charlie!)

I staid long times with her and planned to take her in may country (france) so I maid papers for her to get a visa so she knows a lot of things about me (personnal adress, office adress, name of my company, number of my passeport (and a copy of it.!)

I have taking care of her and help her a lot (buying coolbox, tv,.) I think I gave her almost 600 000 baths in less than one year.

When she told me she is pregnant I gave her money to stop it even if I knew the baby is not mine.!

I don't know if she really stop pregnant.

Last February she became crazy, calling me and sending me sms about 30 tilmes every days during 2 weeks, she threaten me to send papers to my company and to my wife (. Yes, I am married) to explain she is pregnant and that I use money of my company to pay flight ticket to BKK, to pay phone to call her,. (that is not true but. We never know what reaction my company can have)

She use some foreign friends of her from europe (ex customers? Real friends?) to call me and send me emails to explain me that I have to take care of her, sending money or I will have big problem with thai police and with thai association for take care of thai people because she ask them to track me.

I cut of course every contact, change mobile phone, ask people of my office not to answer to phone calls from Thailand, check every day mail box at office and home, never answer email. I was really scared!

Now and for about 2 months, I don't have any news and everything seems quite but I still afraid.

Maybe she keep the baby, I don't't know. If Yes, I think she is close to have it.

This is why I need some help from you to answer some questions:

- do you think she went to the police to say she is pregnant from a farang and gave copy of may passport?

- do you think next time I go to Thailand I can have trouble with the police or with immigration? Is it possible they have my passport number because a girl gave her?

Yesterday, my boss tell me I have to go to Thailand in 2 weeks for my job. I am scared about that!

I didn't change my passport yet and I don't have time to do it.

Please tell me if you think I risk something.

Thanks for opinion and help

Yesterday, my boss tell me I have to go to Thailand in 2 weeks for my job. I am scared about that!Stay cool. First, did you ever see pictures of her or her on the webcam being pregnant? And not just with clothes on, but of her pregnant belly with no shirt? A friend of mine in Peru played a joke on me once. Her friends put something in her shirt and took a bunch of pictures of her doing things around the house. It looked very much like she was pregnant, but after she saw my cool reaction she told me it was just a joke.

Regardless, you are okay. A copy of a passport doesn't prove paternity. And if it did, what could they do besides nothing? How many Thai kids whose father left their mother when they got pregnant are running around? In the far off chance that you do get into trouble you can always say it was identity theft and she must have stolen all of your information.

And do yourself a favor. Don't get so attached to a BG again.

If you know it is not possible, why do you bother?

Anyway, I agree with what Mr Enternational already wrote. You won't have any trouble with the Immigration.

But, if you are real and not a troll, you have to stop acting like a fool, mate!

If she can pretend that you made her pregnant, that means that you've fucked her at least once without a condom which is not advisable (or maybe the condom broke, but you should remember it, then, no?), especially if you don't know her HIV status and whether or not she has taken a contraceptive pill (or if she uses another contraceptive method).

You said that you already sent her almost 600 000 baht during the past year! For what purpose? It's a lot of money in Thailand! Some people might disagree, but I and several senior members can tell you that sponsoring a Thai girl is not a good idea (sorry, but actually, I think it's just plain stupid). Once you can live with her on a daily basis, it's another story, but if you are not really staying together, don't send any money (or at least, not such big amounts)!

You should not believe her threats, especially if what she claims is groundless. If she phones you, just don't say anything. Let her speak alone and answer nothing. She will stop sooner or later (international phone calls are not free!). But when you are back in the Land of Smiles, don't go anymore somewhere near her area, don't try to contact her or someone she knows, avoid her and her friends and family like the plague!

If you need some advices in French, just send me a PM.

The scam opened when I clicked on a link on the page.

It's probably OK to read these links, but I advise that you don't follow any of the onward links on these pages.

If you do, use task master to close out and then run a full security scan.

I have taking care of her and help her a lot (buying coolbox, tv,.) I think I gave her almost 600 000 baths in less than one year.

Well, looking at what you just wrote, I take it you must be the biggest idiot that has travelled in Thailand in the last year? I think she recognizes it too and this is why she does all what she has been doing.

i's all stories, forget it, she's just a prostitute who tries every trick in the book to get money from her top sucker.

Shit, and if you did fuck her bareback, then you got what you deserved!! (being married and all)

Stay cool.

Don't get so attached to a BG again.thanks for your answer.

Yes I saw her really pregnant, and she send me the proof by email (document from hospital, echography with her name.

Yes, you are right, lots of children in the Thailand and in the world don't know their father!

True! I can say she stole me all my information if I get into trouble. But I really don't want to get troubles and be stop at immigration. That's my problem.

You got nothing to worry about!* Come to Thailand for your business and continue to do other Thai ladies with a condom of course for so many others reasons than getting someone pregnant. The Civil law is useless in my opinion because they can force a order on you but who the hell is going to enforce it? How many Thai men are paying child support in Thailand? Although she has proof that she is pregnant, a 500 baht note to any Doctor in any clinic can get you a simple piece of paper saying she is... Like already mentioned where is the proof that the baby is your's. Does she have your DNA, has the baby been born and look like a Farang and like you?*

Not saying it couldn't be your's but until it is definite with her attitude now before it is even born has got to be the biggest red flag in the world to tell you get the hell out of the kitchen. The worse is yet to come! you certainly don't want this women to be your wife 24/7.

If it is your's put your foot down and tell her I will pay this much only and only for the child. Unless you plan on raising the child in your country or leaving everything and living in Thailand. Don't let her use the child against your guilt!

FredImmigration will not be a problem in Thailand, but if you are from a European country and when she goes ask for help at your ambassy, you could be forced to pay childsupport in your own country to her.

In Europe they can even force you to go to a hospital and check your DNA with that from the baby.

However when you take a Thai lawyer and do it in Thailand you will pay muck less childsupport.

You said that you already sent her almost 600,000 baht during the past year! For what purpose? It's a lot of money in Thailand!
Yes that's about 18 years of child support in Thailand :) I hope Fred has kept all the Western Union slips.
Fred - You might want to send a "rallonge" in about 14-16 years for the kid's schooling.

Fred,

When a women gets pregnant, especially early in the pregnancy, a doctor with ultrasound can determine the due date and also the day of conception within 2 or 3 days.

If you were in better terms with your girl friend you could ask her to send you an ultrasound picture. The pictures usually will have DD and GA with dates printed in the margins. You could say to girl friend to send me a couple pictures to prove when the baby is due. Working back 40 weeks is the day of conception. If you were not in Thailand +/- 4 days from that date then you probably are not the father.

Unless you are married to the her you will probably never have to pay child support even if you are the father. The issue is that women don't have the right to request a DNA sample or paternity test just because they think you might be the father. I don't know if she's allowed to put you on the Birth Certificate even if she's never been married to you. If that was the case every girl in Thailand would put Brad Pitt as the father to show that there baby has the right to emigrate to the EU or USA.

Just think of it. You hotel copies your passport info when you check in. They sell it people who sell it to single Thai Pregnant women and then you end up as the father without you having idea. When the baby reaches a certain age. She drops by the embassy and shows that the child father is citizens of France, England, etc and would to inquire about child support. How chaotic would that be. Imagine being contacted 10 years after you last visited Thailand about some women claiming that you are the father just because your passport info was sold and you end up being on the birth certificate.

The location is a little off the beaten track from Suk but it’s easy enough from the Skytrain to the Taksin stop. From there its immediately in front of Assumption college between the back side of the Mandarin Oriental and the Shangri-La hotels and the State Tower (Lebua) is directly behind.

There are usually some local freelancers under the Skytrain between the main road and the river (usually amatures coming home from a job) so take a look if you have time. If you walk to the river you can take a river taxi for 20bhat up river to Chinatown and beyond. A good afternoon diversion...

There was a Timberland shop going out of business a few weeks ago in Pattaya and they had their final days sale. During their last week I bought a pair of shoes for 1500 Baht (original price being at about 6000).

Sorry, but I don't believe this is even close to the truth. In fact, I'm tempted to write this in French just to reassure the original poster. The fact is that there is nothing at all this woman can do to extract any child support in France: she cannot compel a DNA test; she cannot claim citizenship for the baby; she cannot acquire a French birth certificate, and she sure as hell cannot obtain an EU passport for the child. She has absolutely no legal standing France or anywhere else in Europe.

Given that she's a bar girl, or at least an ex bar girl with an obvious history of casual sex, it's highly doubtful that she could make any trouble at Thai Immigration either, unless she's very well connected. And if she were well connected she probably would not be a bar girl.

Having said this, un homme averti en vaux deux (once bitten twice shy), and it pays to remember never, under any circumstances, to share personal information with anyone if not required by law.

So I'm planning my first trip to LOS at the end of the year and I'm leaning towards spending most of it in Pattaya. I would like to stay, at least for part of the time, at a nice beach where I can actually swim in the water. By all the reports I've read over in the Pattaya section, everyone says that the water is terribly polluted and no one swims in it. Can anyone tell me are there any nice beaches in Thailand that you'd recommend where you can touch the water without growing an extra arm or becoming sterile? Hopefully with some p4p action around of course :) I could always pick up a cutie in Pattaya and take her for a little trip to a nicer beach. Thanks in advance! I'm sure I'll have some more questions before I leave, trying to get all my intel in ahead of time.

to Derori,

I think you can take a side trip just outside of Pattaya koh Samet about one hr south of Pattaya, take a boat from Ranyong nice beach and resort there or go to Jomtien only 30 min south of Pattaya many beach front resort there and also bar and girl avalible but nothing like Pattaya, it is good to get away from Pattaya for a few days to relax and recharge yourself.

You could swim at Jomtien Beach. Phuket and Ko Samui have good beaches but the p4p comes nowhere close to Pattaya.

I recommend Ko Chang. It has some very nice beaches. It is close to Pattaya and you can drive there or take a bus (2hrs). You can bring a lady with you or take your chances in the local bars. And there are many hotels in all price ranges yet the island has a relaxed feel to it. Did I mention KC has some very nice beaches?

Swimming at Jomtien Beach is better than Pattaya Beach for sure and is good for a pleasant afternoon. If mongering is your thing, I would not recommend staying there but for some afternoon fun, check out Kinnaree Place a short time bar under new management. They have some nice girls there for 1000bt ST plus 300bt for a room.

Phuket and Ko Samui are the superstar island beach resort destinations. They both have beautiful beaches and you will definitely find girls there (no need to take a friend with you).

If you want to find a more laid back island retreat, I would recommend the smaller outlying islands such as Ko Phi Phi, Ko Pha Ngan, and Ko Tao. But these islands require more effort to get there, and it is a necessity to bring your own diversion with you.

So while I like the smaller less developed islands best, I appreciate the proximity of Ko Chang and its happy mix of comfort, amenities, naturalness and relaxed atmosphere. It is worlds apart from Pattaya. Check it out.

I'm no expert on Pattaya's beaches. However, I just returned from a great few days at the Amari Orchid Resort, which is right on the beach, and offers the alternatives of two large pools and a nice beach. It's within 10 minutes of most of the favored haunts, but it's miles away in terms of ambiance and calm.

Natty Bumpo, you mentioned Phuket. What is the board's general opinion on Pattaya vs. Phuket? I had heard elsewhere that they had nicer beachers in general in Phuket, but that Pattaya maybe had the better p4p scene? Appreciate the feedback. I'm seriously planning on spending at least a month wandering around in Thailand, so I'm sure I'll find many things out myself, but I enjoy and appreciate the discourse on the board here and benefitting from others' experiences. Thanks!

Pattaya definately has a better scene going for it so maybe you should use Phuket as a breather from P4P to do some other stuff.

Samui is good too if you want a shot at drunk backpackers or want a break from associating with hardcore mongers.

I am always looking for multi-day GFE's. First I'd go to Phuket & try to find someone. Why? Because it has far better beaches than Pattaya & many small "romantic" islands. If unlucky after 2-4 days I go to BKK. Find someone there and take her whereever she wants to go. All in all its a 2 week project to get that niiice stretch of days. After that it's tears and maybe see you again.

There's a lot of confusion about what Travel Alerts and Warnings mean, especially in terms of insurance coverage. The following applies to the U.S., but it's roughly the same in most other Western countries.

1) It depends on the specific Terms & Conditions of your insurance policy, but there is no blanket rule that says a Travel Alert or Travel Warning from the State Department automatically makes an insurance policy non-applicable in the country for which the alert or warning has been issued.

HOWEVER, all policies contain exclusions for acts of war (declared or undeclared), insurrection, terrorism, civil unrest, etc. This doesn't mean you're not covered while traveling in countries where such events are occurring, only that you can't claim for damages resulting from them. If you get your leg blown off because of a grenade attack on a BTS station in Bangkok, you won't be covered. If you fall down the stairs at a BTS station outside the demonstration area or get hit by a baht bus in Pattaya, you would be covered because those injuries don't result from an excluded event.

2) The State Department doesn't have an objective standard for "essential travel." It is purely subjective, to be defined by each individual traveler. If you consider it essential to get your knob polished in Thailand, then a trip to Bangkok or Pattaya would be essential travel, at least for you.

3) The State Dept has issued a Travel Alert for Thailand, which is a caution about short-term developments that can pose a threat to the security of U.S. citizens. A Travel Warning covers long-term conditions and is also an admission by the U.S. government that it may not be able to extend any aid to U.S. citizens in some countries. Keep in mind these alerts and warnings are issued with inexperienced travelers, often families, in mind, not veteran horndogs who would cross a mine field if a willing woman was on the other side.

It's very important to note that a country does not have to be on the Travel Alert or Warning list for the terrorism or unrest exclusions to take place. Injuries or damage resulting from the Al-Qaeda bombings in London or Spain wouldn't have been covered by most policies, although it could be that the insurance company would honor claims to avoid bad publicity.

The State Dept. has issued travel alerts for the following countries: Mozambique; Thailand; India; Malaysia; Ethiopia; Kyrgyz Republic. There are 31 countries with Travel Warnings: Democratic Republic of the Congo; Kyrgyz Republic; Mexico; Philippines; Algeria; Lebanon; Iran; Kenya; Haiti; Colombia; Eritrea; Central African Republic; Iraq; Saudi Arabia; Pakistan; Sudan; Somalia; Mauritania; Chad; Mali; Sri Lanka; Nepal; Guinea; Cote d'Ivoire; Israel, the West Bank and Gaza; Afghanistan; Burundi; Nigeria; Uzbekistan; and Georgia.

4) Don't accept anything on face value that you read on the Internet about insurance and travel warnings (except if it has been written by me). Check with your insurance company AND GET IT CONFIRMED IN WRITING that your policy will apply for general travel in Thailand.

BANGKOK, May 3 (Reuters) - Many countries have issued travel advisories for the Thai capital since Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva declared a state of emergency in April to quell unrest that has killed 27 people and wounded nearly 1,000. The United States, Britain and Australia have recently advised against travel to anywhere in Thailand, not just Bangkok.
Arrivals at Bangkok's main Suvarnabhumi airport dropped by a third in April, putting a government target of 15.5 million tourists this year in doubt and dealing a blow to an industry that supports 6 percent of the economy.
Following are some advisories from foreign governments:

BRITAIN - On April 27, the British government advised against all travel to the country because "violent incidents of an unpredictable nature are occurring in many parts of Thailand", citing protests and incidents in tourist destinations such as Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Ayuthaya.
In 2009, 841,000 British tourists came to Thailand, more than from any other European country, according to government data.

AUSTRALIA - The Australian government has also advised its citizens to "reconsider your need to travel to Thailand".
"There is a strong possibility of violent clashes in Bangkok and in other parts of Thailand between demonstrators and security forces. These clashes could involve the use of lethal force and could occur at any time."
In 2009, 647,000 Australians visited Thailand.

THE UNITED STATES - On April 28, the State Department advised against non-essential travel to Thailand. In 2009, 627,000 Americans came to Thailand.

GERMANY - The German government has issued a heightened security alert for Thailand and tour operators have cancelled tours to Bangkok and some destinations in northern provinces.
Some 573,000 Germans visited Thailand in 2009.

CANADA - Canada warned on April 28 against non-essential travel to Thailand. "The security situation is very volatile with significant potential for further civil unrest, violent clashes, and attacks." About 170,000 Canadians came to Thailand in 2009.

NEW ZEALAND- New Zealand warned against non-essential travel to Thailand and advised citizens concerned about their safety to consider leaving the country. "There is high risk to your security in Thailand due to the uncertain political situation, civil unrest and threat from terrorism," it said.
Some 88,000 New Zealanders visited Thailand in 2009.

JAPAN - Japan raised its security risk level for Thailand to 2 out of the maximum 4 on April 27, advising its nationals to seriously reconsider travel plans to the affected areas and take precautions if they did decide to make a trip. Just over a million Japanese tourists came to Thailand in 2009.

CHINA - On April 26, Beijing warned its people not to visit and to "temporarily leave Bangkok if possible" if already there.
Chinese tourists cancelled in droves in April after violence on April 10 that spilled into the Khao San Road area, popular with low-budget travellers. Some 778,000 people travelled to Thailand from China in 2009. Another 319,000 came from Hong Kong.

SINGAPORE - Singaporeans have been advised against non-essential travel to Bangkok since April 10. "Singaporeans who are already in Bangkok are strongly advised to remain indoors as far as possible and avoid unnecessary travel within the city, in particular to avoid the areas where demonstrations are occurring."

SOUTH KOREA - South Korea is advising its citizens to avoid travel to Bangkok and other parts of Thailand.

TAIWAN - Taiwan is maintaining its "red" level alert on travel to the Bangkok area. Red is the highest level of alert in Taiwan's four-tier warning system and urges nationals to refrain from travelling to the affected area. About 350,000 Taiwanese tourists visited Thailand last year.

Have the red shirts gone too far?

Thai premier rescinds offer for early election after the red shirts, who have been pressing for quick elections, said they agreed in principle but gradually added a list of conditions of their own, including that Mr. Abhisit and his top deputy surrender to police over an April 10 attempt by security forces to disperse protesters that left 25 people dead.

I prepared a trip report. Enjoy!

D1 Bangkok, hotel- Majestic Suites, Nana Plaza. Took a shower and drank my first thai beer, went out for another beer in a bar. Enjoyed it while watching the life goes by. Decided to go to Eden’s Club. Went in, ordered a beer and the mamasan explained me everything, the ladies came and I picked one and she picked another one. So we went into the room. Guys what a fun I had, two girls and me in the middle of action with them. The room was small but had mirrors everywhere. They undressed me and gave me a shower, then we went to have some fun. Very nice experience. The girls were very good looking and funny, we laughed, did everything and I went out very satisfied. Next I went to a nana plaza to have one beer and then went to a bar with good live music when I met a good looking freelancer but did not take her with me to a hotel as I was to tired.

D2 Went to see Bangkok. Later i went to Tulipp Inn massage, great place with a selection of average girls but skilled very well. I had to walk trough a beauty saloon to get to the “reception”. Picked one girl and so we went upstairs. She undressed me and gave a shower, then a good oil massage. Then again we had a good fun, the most funny thing was when she kissed my back she went down and suddenly I felt her tounge in my black hole J (this massage parlour is famous for it). She was not happy (I just love the look of their faces when the show they are not happy in a funny way– I cant explain it, I just love it), that I finished to early, allowed me to rest for a while and the round 2 came. I could barely walk when I left the place. I went to a bar with live music met some freelancers had few beers and again went to a hotel alone because I had to get up early in the morning.

D3 Full day trip. Got back tired, relaxed a bit in a hotel and then went for the night fun. Went to my favourite live music bar, had a few beers and then picked up a freelancer who was sitting with a friend and drinking Guinness. She was pretty, one of the best I met in Thailand and also very communicative one. We went for late dinner and then to a hotel. What can I say more, perfect body perfect every part of it, truly GF experience.

D4 Woke up and immediately smiled when I saw who’s next to me completely naked. Brown small perfect body. She was so innocent, so nice, so good. I miss her J After she left I started to pack my things and next I took a taxi to the airport. Had a beer at the airport and so I went to Phuket. Found my driver and we went straight to Patong. I stayed in Summer Breeze hotel, when I arrived Bill said hello I also met his staff which by all standards was extremely friendly and helpful all the time I stayed in Phuket. Its a perfect Patong hotel with good rooms, food and service. Then I went to have a beer and crab fried rice. In the evening went to the Mai Thai Bar, said hello to the girls played some games had few beers, then I realized it was 2 am. Went back to the hotel and on the way I picked a freelancer. Had a good fun with her.

D5 Woke up at 13:00 said good bye to the girl and went down to have some breakfast. Met a Canadian guy and we talked a bit. Went upstairs to the room and at about 19:00 went to the Shipwrecks bar, had a few beers there and next I visited a couple of bars and after some time went to A Go Go. Very nice girls , nice atmosphere, picked a girl and went to a hotel. Amazing body, beautifull big eyes, she told me her story, I told her mine. Great night to remember.

D6 Another beautiful morning with an angel next to me. Went alone to Phi Phi islands for full day trip. Met nice people and a Polish guy who is living in Phuket for 4 years. ( he is 28 now). We had a nice day - talking as he had a chance to speak in his native language. He gave me some Expat’s view on some things etc. Went back to the hotel, had a shower, went down to eat something. Then the Shipwrecks, than some bars etc. Did not find what I was looking for so I went to hotel alone.

D7 Went to James Bond island. Got back to hotel and went straight to the Mai Thai Bar. Met Nicke, and other BMs. Bill was also there. Met 2 cool Swedish guys and we all spend the whole night drinking at MTB. The atmosphere there - just amazing. Met a girl at MTB, I bf her and we left to a hotel at 02:00. She was a very friendly girl with character which I liked very much.

D8 Woke up and saw an angel again, it was around 12:00, as she had a big hangover and preferred to go home than hang on the beach. So i went to the beach alone, had few beers while relaxing in the shade. Got back to the room and had a shower. Went to the massage parlour and the girl gave me a nice masasage. Very funny experience as she took me to a room without the walls , only small curtain seperated us from my neighbour. Had a lot of fun listening to many different “noises”. After some time another girl appeared and asked why my “friend” is sleeping, and she asked if I wanted a BJ, I said ok and she gave my a great BJ while the other one was kissing me all over body. I went back to a hotel and then after some time to Shipwrecks and than to MTB. Nicke and the Swedish guys were there and we also spend the whole evening there. I rang the bell and bar fined the same girl and we went to hotel. A night to remember, I really liked her.

D9 Woke up and realized that we were holding each others hand. Started to pack myself. She was lauging at me as I couldn’t make my suitcase closed. We wished each other good luck and so we went, she went home I went to the airport. Landed in Bangkok and changed the plane to Chiang Rai. Arrived in Chiang Rai, took a taxi, went to a hotel Golden Triangle Inn, met the owner and booked a private trip for the next day. Went to eat something and had few beers. The night life almost does not exist there. Went to sleep.(nice break to recharge my batteries).

D10 Went to Golden Triangle etc. Had a nice local food. Got back to hotel and then to airport. Arrived in Bangkok two hours late, my driver was waiting for me and took me to Pattaya. Arrived to the Sabai Lodge – Sabai Wing at 02:00, took shower and decided to have some night fun. Went to the bar, smoked water pipe, had few beers and went straight to the Beach Road and picked up a freelancer. She was by far the smallest girl I had in Thailand. Great body great attitude. Went sleep at 06:00.

D11 08:00 I felt someone’s hand under my pants. Had a 2nd round. Went back to sleep. She left at 12:00 but wanted to stay. I said no for 10 times J Went down to have something to eat and next to the Soapy - Sabai Dee. Went inside, looked at the fishbow, found the one and went upstairs with her. I really liked the soapy thing. She undressed me, preapered a bath for me, gave me a nice massage on the bed, washed me carefully in the bath , prepared the water matterace and put a lot of soap on it, asked me to lay down on it and put a soap on me and washed me without using her hands. Than we had shower and then to the bed for pleasure. This was the time I decided I will have a soapy everyday while in Pattaya. Went back to hotel, relaxed by the pool, had dinner and went to Walking Street. Pattaya if it comes to P4P can’t be compared to any place in Thailand. Lot of girls available almost 24hrs a day. Went to Secrets a go go, and then to Angelwitch a go go. Met a girl there and I bar fined her. We had some nice time in bed but she was a bit to drunk.

D12 Woke up, said good bye to the girl and went for day time fun to Soi 6 bars. Spotted the one I was looking for and had a good sex. Went back to hotel and as usall relaxed by the pool. Decided to go for another soapy – this time Sabai Land. Had a nice time there but the rooms were not as good as Sabai Dee. Went back to hotel. Again went to Walking Street, had a nice time in the bars, went back to a hotel hoping that I will pick a freelancer but I did not find the one.

D13 Woke up alone. Went for a soapy, this time for Sabai Rooms. Better rooms than Sabai Land but still Sabai Dee is the best out of these 3. Had a model look girl. I liked her very much. Went back and as usual relaxed by the pool. Again in the evening went to Walking Street. Visited some bars, talked with girls, had a lot of fun and met a Russian guy. We went to some bars, discos and ended in a Russian go go club where the prices were extremely high.

D14 Again alone. Went for soapy to Sabai Dee, picked a girl. She was really good. Had one of the best shags ever. She wanted to come to my hotel. She kept asking for it many times. Again relaxed by the pool. In the evening Walking Street as usual. Smoked a water pipe and decided that I had to find some girl for the night. Found one in a go go. She was average but had a nice body and it was a GF experience. We want for a drink to some bars and then for a dinner, she fed me like a child J She really took care of me, told me that she wants me to be happy, showed me other girls on the street, laughed at me, asked if I want two girls funJ we want to a hotel holding each others hands. As soon as I opened my room door and entered the room she pushed me on the bed and jumped on me. She kissed me, undressed me and we had a really good fun in bed.

D15 I woke up, looked at my girl and smiled. It was amazing. I gave her a good tip and she left. I decided to go for my last soapy to Sabai Dee. So I went. Choose a good looking girl but after 2 weeks of drinking and full of sex I couldn’t finish. I told her ok I am tired, but she said no and finished it with a BJ, the best one I have ever had in my life. Nice happy ending of my Thailand trip. Packed my bags , had my last meal and went to Bangkok airport.

Hope you enjoyed my report.

... the most funny thing was when she kissed my back she went down and suddenly I felt her tongue in my black hole J (this massage parlour is famous for it)...

It's called "rimming" or "rim-job" or "anilingus". I'm surprised as it seems, reading your report, that you didn't get one at the Eden Club the day before? Usually, it's part of the girls' routine there (at least, it was the case each time I visited this place).

Probably originating from a net cafe. (report from 15 days ago and I just saw it)

To those of you seeing "messages" you didn't send - CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD to something less apparent:

1 capital letter,
at least 1 number
and the rest as lower case
and maybe throw in a "special symbol" as well.

THEN let them try to hack it. But send it to yourself in an email so YOU won't forget it either.

Bangkok Beat soi 7/1Thanks for the reply. Was there twice last month, but didn't care too much for the band - too funkadelic or along those lines.

Myself, I like more of hard (read OLD) rock [have been spoiled by Dubai's Seaview band], but perhaps they "harden" up later - I was there early, and given I didn't care for the music, decided to move on after a couple of beers.

But next time I'm in town, will have to give it another try.

After my first trip to Thailand. In jan/feb I booked the tickets for my birthday in may just for one week but as I was forced to change my job I decided to go to the region again in April for three weeks. I went to Bangkok for 3 days, stayed in majestic suites, visited couple of freelancer bars. One especially in soi 7/1, the name was Bangkok. Just next to eden club. I met a girl there and had a wonderful time, dancing all the night long, then eating with her in a local dining establishment and then had a nice time in a hotel. Her english was very good and I really enjoyed her company. It was songkran time so it was a great experience to me + some fighting between yellow and red shirts. Second day I was leaving the night scene to my hotel and on my way back I met her again, what a coinsidence, we got back to the club, danced a bit and again to hotel. Nex day I had a flight to saigon-vietnam, I took a cuple of trips there and on one night I ordered a girl to my hotel (using receptionist guy). The name of the hotel was indochine hotel. A lot of massage placec and bars all around saigon, bit different that Thailand but still ok. Then I took a bus to Cambodia.phnom penh, higly recomended because of beautiful cheap and nice girls (they have darker skin than thai girls). Stayed in flamingo hotel in the middle of the action, visited couple of bars. In one of them I met a german guy, then we took our girls and went to martinis disco. Had a nice time there. Then I went to siem reap by bus to see the temples. A must see! Almost no night life in terms of girls but it was well worth it. I met wonderful people there. The went by plane to KL and stayed in concorde hotel, had a nice massage there and the next day went to krabi. Ao nang to see the railey beach. Very nice. Stayed in ao nang in beach terrace hotel which was non gf, but it was ok as the night life was almost none. Met some american girls and a new zeelander and had a nice time in discos. After that I went to samui for one week-chaweng-island resort. Samui is a great place and the atmosphere is superb. Met a girl in harrys africa bar and stayed with her for a week. Great time I had. Took jet skis. Reliable one not as those in phuket. There a nice bars just on the beach in samui and thats what I loved the most.

Third trip in may. Only to Pattaya for one week. I don't like Pattaya but it was close and cheap for one week holiday. As I like soapy massage I went there every day (sabai dee, sabai inn, sabai rooms) + some day time fun in soi 5 or 6. Don't remember. Stayed in sunshine hotel.nice hotel close to the action.

I love Thailand, but I would recomend Cambodia also.

Bravo, next time, try "5 STAR" on soi cowboy right next to country road. small dark place, small stage with non descript girls doing the shuffle, but good old fashionned rock n roll.

Not really a pick up place, but the Master, AKA Piper1 pulled "Island Girl" from there. Ask him abt it next time you see him.

No, I picked up Jungle Girl (the skinny one) at 5 Star rock'n'roll bar. I picked up Island Girl (not so skinny!) from "The Office" bar across the road from Giotto's. Don't you recognise her?

Bravo, next time, try "5 STAR" on soi cowboy right next to country road. Thanks, I am VERY familiar with "Live Music", been going there for years. Spent a number of evenings there this past trip. Enjoy sitting at table right outside the door so I can watch the passing crowd while also catching the music. In fact, everytime I left Bangkok Beat, 5 Star was where I was headed.

And while I do like the place, feel a little bit like "Goldilocks"... Bangkok Beat sound is too "modern", 5 Star too "old"... I do like the band, but their play list seems a bit limited, their strength, to me anyway, the blues. While I do like Gary Moore, I want some variety (as in they do "All Along the Watchtower" great, but no "Zombie")...

Never really cared for Cowboy's Country Roads, but the one that USED to be on Soi 19 better. From signage, guess it might have moved above Soi 5's Foodland, but never made it there.

Likewise, while the go-go's do have some attractions, I find most of the "music" played there (I know, some will ask, "They play music?", as I used to do at dxb's Cyclone), but still, the tunes are mostly crap for me.

Clone the old Seaview band...

Has anyone checked the airfares to Thailand? Did today for a friend and can't believe that the fares for Coach are near $2,000 USD! That is insane I have never seen the fares jump like this just last month my friend got a ticket for slightly over $1,000. You would think with Thailand trying to draw toursit back would lower the fares to generate business?

The flights that are available are very full, Y class full fare in most cases. #3. Summer flights from the USA are always the most expensive. Guess what? It's summer.

Have your friend look here at "EVA Air": http://eservice.evaair.com/online/html/english/plan/EIBSA001.asp?mode=PROMO

Scroll down the page and look for "I'm not an EVERGREEN CLUB member but I still want to look up the exclusive fares." Go inside that link and give it a real going over. You'll find something.

Also, consider the EVA "Elite Class", if you poke around in that same Hot E page enough right now you'll find a nice class upgrade for almost the same price as coach. The little things in Elite definitely make that flight seem shorter.

Taiwan based "China Airlines" http://www.china-airlines.com/en/index.htm, currently with no promos, is a bit more expensive than EVA right now. And "Thai Air" http://www.thaiair.com/ is running about $1600 total for the nonstop. So, it's about normal for this time of year really.

BTW, I would NOT recommend Korean Air, Cathay Pacific, or any of the American based carriers. They take longer, your seat & legroom are too small for the money, and they are more expensive right now anyway.

Good luck with it LBM, keep me posted.

I imagine it will go down, though, as fewer people will be buying tickets. Supply and demand will kick in eventually.

I did see some good fares on China Airlines to BKK from SFO via Beijing (not my preferred route!).

This wont be much interest for the US based ppl but it seems every other country are been offered discounted fares to get to bkk on thai airlines

And not because of the recent civil unrest but the airline is celebrating 50 years

There are time restrictions and certain rules so you cant book it too far ahead

Some damn good prices that ill be taking up

Yes, with nearly 3 decade of working for a Airline understand the theory of supply and demand. Along with all the Code shares with other airlines seat capacity is getting less and less to certain locations. I did some research with a special website I use for going standby given to former retired employees and see out of the west coast that since most Airlines that travel to the Far East normally have to make a stop between going to Thailand. Like Cathay out of SFO, goes through Hong Kong, Eva and China through TPE, United, Delta/Northwest through Narita. These Flights are full but from these stopovers there seem to be plenty of seats to Bangkok.

As for Eva, I pretty much use them exclusively paying or going standby, personally they are a excellent carrier and I have travel standby on nearly every carrier to Asia. They have a mix schedule out of SFO, on days ( June ) they run 3 flights one at 1am, 1:40am and then a another 6pm, but on these days they have contract to carry a lot of Cargo and Mail and therefore due to weight restrictions have limited seats for passengers to TPE then it gets even tougher since Eva seem to have cut the first flight out of TPE-BKK and only have 9:00am thereafter you have to wait until midnight. Top that with Cathay, China, and Singapore leaving to Hong Kong and TPE, these Airlines are overselling their flights and then calling EVA, to protect seats in case they do oversell along with USAirways now having a code share with Eva making bookings from SFO/Singapore cut seat capacity.

So many reasons for the fares to go up but personally I have never seen the prices go up to this level of 1800.00 usd just for coach. The airlines checked, Thai, Cathay, United, China, Singapore all seem to be in the same area which lead one to believe that price fixing is involved but many of try to prove that and have failed. The most I have ever paid for traveling to and from in June has been 1200.00usd on Eva.. but 1800.00 WTF is this world coming too?

Barko, I have been upgraded many times by Eva, but I'm a short guy and those aircraft they fly 777/77W are great for guys like me since even in coach those seats are about the same leg room I get in Deluxe coach. I know exactly what rolls to pick or ask for when I go standby aside from the exit rolls. As you indicated Eva is the number #1 airline for me but since the closure of the airport in Bangkok they have changed their schedule and sometimes it is a pain in the ass trying to figure them out.

Thats life....LBM

Thats life.I hear you. I got a quickie EVA Hot E return BKK-LAX-BKK two months ago, with an elite bump to the front, for $780 net. (This was unbelievably cheap for this day & age.) But the seasonal price differential this year is totally shwacked, doubled and more.

BTW: The EVA website, which can be complicated enough with all of their separate pricing structures and date embargoes, is being over-hammered right this minute by hits generated from the USA.

Tell your bud not to think too much and to get his tickets asap. Anything through an Asia Pacific hub is going to be sold out this summer pronto.

It's not new, it's been around for years, run by Jackson, who is based in Buenos Aires. I think the only thing new is the link to it on ISG

For Argentina Private ISG, you need a new login ID to post, why ? For other sections like for USA, Russia, and Thailand etc you don't.

Anyway, thanks for the reply...

OK, so I looked and looked, and as far as I can tell, it's just another shuck & jive show to get you into the booking page. Fares June & July are $1370++, August is $1150++.

"Hurry! Cheap seats to Bangkok!" "Book before June 15!" (OK, well sure maybe if you wanted to go in October.) BTW, what I DID find is that you really can get really cheap seats for November & December right now if you have the wherewithal to do it. $625++.

Thanks for this tidbit. It was very valuable. I was so tired of having to get a new number every time I hit Thailand. When I bought the card this time I mentioned the *1013 to the attendant and she had no idea. She said that she always does it on the computer there at the desk. I did, however, forget to go to the desk on my way out of Thailand but I remembered the *1013 when I got in the plane. It was hard to make out what the recording was saying, but I ended up extending 180 days for a deduction of 12 baht. I think there were 60 and 90 day options for less money as well. Before I left March 14 I did an option where I could keep my number for 6 months. But when I arrived last night and turned on my phone it said SIM card invalid. I stopped by the dtac shop in the airport and the guy said it was turned off two weeks ago. He recommended that I go to the 7-11 that is in the airport and buy a TrueMove SIM card. I did that. It was 49 baht and I bought 150 baht of time. True gives you 1 year without recharging. When I added my minutes I got a text saying it was good until June 4, 2011. Also with that chip it is only like 5 baht/min for international calls.

After some stupid drunken bareback in Pattaya with a few girls last January, I went for a full STI screen a few weeks ago. Got the results a week ago and luckily I got the all clear.

Not encouraging bareback btw, I am just saying I was lucky not to catch anything.

The problem is that you have to use it once every 89 days (Will expire if not used for 90 days, nobody tells you that if you don't ask). The best option when overseas is to send a SMS back to Thailand which they say costs 20 Baht.

Better ask True if that is also the case there. Better safe than sorry.

What the airline for $625 or website ?

Check China airlines. That $625 fare may not include taxes, so buyer beware.
October is a low fare month, so you will find that when the fares come out in July most of the other carrier will have lower fares also. June, July, and 1/2 August (depending on the carrier) , and December are high fare months.
March, April, September, October, and 1/2 November are low fare months. That is the ariline "general" fare periods. If they need to fill some seats that they will lower some prices on a short term window, but you can judge your airfare prices using those guidelines. You want the lowest prices go in a "low" fare month.

China Airlines fares to Asia are always quoted before $300+ of fees and taxes. I'd be willing to bet that China Airlines $625 fare is close to $950 all in. Which is still a very good fare, just not spectacular enough to make you book something this early for November or December if you have any uncertainty at all about your plans - and BTW, I have found that low fare season for travel from the US to Asia on most carriers extends thru Nov. 30 departures and roughly December 20th for the return leg.

You can fly Cathay Pacific for a little over $1,000 from the west coast including taxes. Rated #2 in the world for service, food and comfort. Personally I like the airline.

China Air has a poor reputation in all respects and is somewhere near Aeroflot for safety records. .

A few dollars more goes a long way for 35 hours roundtrip flying.

Better yet use air miles. I just booked 1st class on Cathay round trip LAX - BKK for a whopping $40.

Guido88Hmm, sure Guido, but steer clear of the Australian Merlot. Heartburn city. ;)

I'd been a Marco Polo Gold for a long time, (Diamond 2 yrs) and got free bumps frontwards on nearly every flight. But I quietly let it fall into Green a while back. For me, the Thai Air nonstop became the only way to go.

Cathay uses older planes, the seat pitch in econo is 32", the total flight times for most LAX-BKK and return flights are 20 hours including a BIG PITA stop at NewHKG.

Thai Air, the econo seat pitch is 34.5" and takes 14-15 hours non stop. That's as fast as you can go without being onboard your own Gulfstream G650. Heh.

Side note regarding other carriers I've used when my impending dates were unavailable. Compare: Discount carrier EVA's seat pitch is 33", total flight time 17 hours including stop in TPE. Also, I rarely use ChinaAirlines, but it has better connections and flight departure-arrival times than almost all carriers, seat pitch 32", ttlfltt also 17 hrs, their safety record has been excellent for over 10 years, (the ratings you are looking at must be old, for years pre 1997.) In any case, I personally would not mention ChinaAirlines and Aeroflot in the same sentence. I think you must be referring to Air China, that would make more sense.

OFD (Open for discussion) Cathay's food is a LITTLE better and the flight attendants are a definitely nicer/cuter.

Cathay used to be great, I mean really really great. But now IMHO, their econo class for long haul has slipped into "pick one" oblivion status. It is far better than US carriers, most certainly, but it would be a long stretch of the imagination to compare it to Singapore or Malaysian Air. (Short haul flights are a totally different story, CX is right up there with any carrier in the world.)

Guido I looked and looked, and couldn't find any of the Cathay $1000 SFO/LAX-BKK RT promo fare seats anywhere. The real price right now seems to be hovering around $2300.

A quick tip regarding all flights including First Class. Save yourself vast amounts of time & hassles this summer: Use your "online check in" option, make sure to get into the "online check in" line early at the airport, then you'll simply blow through check in, maybe 3 minutes. (Also, you're smart, so if you are late or have a lot of luggage, use the SkyCaps, a $20 tip is waay worth it. Try it, you'll see!) :D

I fly with Cathay about 16 time a year for business ,they might not have the best service I give that honor to Singapore airline , they have the most flight and best connection ,cathay have 5 flight a day from west coast USA 3 from LAX and 2 from SFO to Hong kong and 6 flight a day from HK to Bangkok ,they use the new plane for the long haul flight to US and Europe and the older fleet in ASIA .

Fast Eddie 48Correct. I read the US$ 40 tax comment and was somewhat suprised , as it recently cost me HK $ 1400 ( US $ 180 ) on a CX redemption KL /HK/ Heathrow.

Plus as you rightly state, so hard to get redemption on long haul flights.

Interesting with Malaysian Airlines, I just go to the check in counter, and if they have seats, they will issue you a boarding pass immediately, and deduct the mileage there and then. Perfect!

I fly CAL (China airlines) across the Pacific 6 or 7 times a year. I am a Paragon member with them, which means the purser comes and bows in front of me, and my favourite magazine is in my seat when I board. The new 744 they fly to LAX is very nice, both in business and in first. The old 744 that goes to AMS and SFO is exactly that, old. There is PTV in business and first, but no AVOD. In the new 744, there is AVOD.

Service is always excellent, maybe due to my membership status, I don’t know. They walk me past other passengers, to let me off first, and walk me through customs at Bali airport.

I have recently started flying EVA also, on their new 777ER, nice aircraft, especially row number 6 or 10, middle aisle, as there is a secret little button under the leg rest which raises the leg rest parallel to the floor. Excellent food and cold bubbly.

If the plane crashes, I plan on asking for a BJ from one of the cute flight attendants as we plummet to the ground.

I am a Diamaond with EVA, and the service is about the same. The service in Bali is nice, there was a two hour wait in to go through immigration one day, and I just smiled as my "guide " took care of the "paperwork", and I met him on the other side. EVA also takes care of my luggage, it is always set off to one side with an airline rep waiting to take me to my ride. :)

People call China Airline short China Air. These accidents all can be review in detail on AirSafe.com.

Some of these accidents are just bad luck being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Also in 2007, last accident there is evidence that they made a review of where they were hiring their pilots and revised their management and since have made a turn around of the company. When it comes to safety, many citations comes from " Inadequate Repairs ".

On a personal note I flew China Airlines in the 90's mostly as a paying passenger but never like the service overall out of SFO/TPE/HK, but I didn't have the priveleges like 1BALL, flying Business or First Class with access to their club. First never belonging to their club and not having enough miles on the book, I never was able to book a seat in advance and although I was always the first one to check-in, I was never able to get a exit roll. When I got to Taiwan in the morning I could never get or find anyone to help me with just a simple question. The plane out of SFO, then and even now uses a 747 that is nearly 30 years old and still have movie screen in the aisle and if you are short and old like me can barely see anything! My last flight on China Airline was in November, and bless their heart for putting me on after I found out at the last minute Eva couldn't obtain a seat for me on standby. But from check in to arriving in TPE, I knew why EVA was the airline of my choice.

I'm not pushing Eva, in fact if you like your choice now stay with it! gives me a better chance whenever I go standby. Don't let the numbers scare you there are other airlines flying in our friendly skies with worst records! But like 1Ball says if the plane starts to go down, I running to the back, rip off the dresses of the Flight Attendants and do my thing for one last time!

Although I am a member of Asia miles its not a program with value for me.

I used AA miles to redeem for the Cathay flight. Availability can be good. I have also booked Biz class with miles in the past just a few shorts days before traveling.

When using miles planning in advance is not a bad thing. I can usually get the bookings I am looking for.

As to the $40 taxes it is correct with AA miles. Takes more AA miles than Asia miles. However miles are meant to be burned. They lose value over time.

Costs vary depending on carrier and country. I just booked LAX to St Petersburg RU on Air France Biz class and those damn French taxes will run $160. Still a deal.

Between "boom boom" sessions you better invest some money in getting your planned "imported" Thai wife some English lessons as well as put some effort in teaching her yourself to reinforce what she has learnt!

Also, if at all possible, TRY to avoid the "trap" that her only knowledge of English is the "dirty" language expressed during sex!

Cheers!

AA is a partner airline of Cathay pacific, I use it on my south america business trip do you know you can transfer all AA mile to Asia mile or you can call marco polo to book any other airline on the one world program using your asia mile also, contact AA customer service for that, for airline safetly CP and Singapore have very good record only one accident in 40 yr.

I like the flexibility of the AA program, ability to get flights and I think fair mileage costs. Being able to book Cathay as a partner or fly into Russia is a plus.

Asia miles although they are "One World" I get better value from AA. As you mentioned its harder to get bookings with Asia miles.

As for your 180,000 miles due to expire. Most programs will extend your expiration dates with any activity in the account. A credit card purchase or some small participation in a promotion should work.

95% the miles I earn do not come from actual flights, I rarely buy tickets. I only use credit card and promotion miles.

All in all air miles offer substantial benefits if used correctly for Biz & 1st class. So large I am surprised the IRS is not taxing them as income.....

Best of luck

Are you sure you can get a redemption flight for just 40 USD first class on a long haul flight, it is hard to believe that airline add fuel tax, dep tax and processing charge, I once book a redemption flight from SF to Las vegas coach domestic flight tax is over 35 USD already.

To I ball,

I thought that you get BJ on business and first class any way, do you know which airline flight attended offer rimming please let me know, if the plane crash last thing you worry about is getting a BJ.

Hahaha

Correct.

Perfect!to FreebieFan,

I have book ticket HK to BKK at HKIA on arrival from US at the Macro polo counter on the same day ,they alway have seat 6 flight a day or you can use your asia mile on dragon air for domestic flight to shanghai also .

Right now it takes 170,000 frequent flier miles from LAS to BKK on coach, and 310,000 for business class. They're sure proud of those miles!!!

The problem is Delta miles are damn near worthless. When they merged with NWA I had 100,000 miles I could not use due to Delta's ridicules mileage reward requirements.

Fortunately by planning ahead I was able to burn them flying LAX-LED on Air France Biz class. Not that I mind an RU trip anyway.

The key is to plan early, and never fly a USA airline. IMHO

My first trip to Thailand was in 1978. It was then I witness a beautiful woman, named Tip, launch bananas across the stage and open a soda bottle with her snatch. You know, pure entertainment! Pattaya also had quite a bit going on.

In late 2001, the raunchy stuff still existed. In Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy, there were several sex shows. Real sex shows, not the "touch my nipples" show. And in Pattaya, I was able to see ping pong balls and razors flying coming out of snatches.

I went back in 2002 only to discover all the raunchy shows were gone. I think the government was trying to clean up some of the fun stuff. My last trip was in 2004. Still no great shows.

Lately, I've been traveling to Central and South America the last few years just to try other chicas. And yes, they are hot, but I do miss the Thai girls.

So back to my question, have the raunchy shows returned?

Couple of questions guys, Doing a 2 month trip to pattaya from 1st July.

What are the rules around mopeds/motorbikes for uk travellers? Do I need an international drivers licence? A motorbike licence? Or nothing? And like uk, does that change with the size of bike?

Got an iPad and netbook and want mobile wifi. Everywhere I go in pattaya seems to have loads of wifi connections, 7/11s etc. How does that work? Is it a prepaid thing you buy in a 7/11 or Internet and which ones are best in pattaya for coverage?

Thanks folks

If you have a bike licence in the UK then get an international drivers licence.

One thing though is most travel insurers will only cover you up to 125cc for medical cover and only if you have a bike licence.

depends on how long the SIM card was set up as "good" - some are good for a YEAR, others only 90 days. IF it's valid, just buy some more time at the 7-11 and use it at Swampy if you want to. (or use what you have - it's still good usually if the card is good)

each card and each rovieder has its own rules.
Sometime if you top it by a high amount you keep it valid for one year, a mid amount by 6 months...
You really need the conditions when you bought it.
If still valid, it will work as soon as you activate it on arrival.

there is a DTAC booth / kiosk after customs, I believe at door 3 or 6. It is quite possible they can reactivate if needed.

Try the Long Gun in Soi Cowboy. Last visit they had a banana show, lesbian show, razor blades, needles, and a quite interesting dart balloon show.

Watch where you sit during the dart show, needled tipped darts fly from the snatch to balloons 7 or 8 feet above.

Hate to get blinded by a misguided pussy dart.

Sounds somewhat disgusting but still entertaining in a perverted sort of way.

Patpong had shows also but was pretty grungy compared with Cowboy. Plus the Longun girls were far better looking.

Thank you for the info Guido. I watched a show at the Long Gun in 2002 and it was one of the hottest shows I have ever witness. The Carousel in Nana Plaza also had an extremely hot show, but in 2004, there was a solid attempt to clean the shows up. Also in 2002, the Clinton (Bill) Plaza had some decent shows.

"Hate to get blinded by a misguided pussy dart."

Thanks for the warning. It would be hard to explain that to my grandchildren, if I ever have any in the future.

Usually I only stay in Bangkok for a day or two, before heading to Pattaya for the rest of the trip. This might be my last trip, because the flight is soooo damn long. So I plan to explore Bangkok more than I have done in the past. No, not the floating market or temples...but the dark side, which I like more than I should.

Thanks again, TJ

It is open for trials, 7am-10am & 4pm-7pm. Free ticket, go to either Ramhkamhaeng, Phaya Thai BTS or Pratunam. Main station that connects to MRT (Makkasan) is not open yet. If you're bound for Sukhumwit, connect to BTS at Phaya Thai (last station).

If you're lucky enough to arrive at those times, go down to the lowest level of the airport (one below where the public taxis are). FYI, immigration queues have also improved, I waited just 5 minutes last time (as opposed to usual 40).

This is a question to the ones who ever got Thai girls from a website to bed.

Might be quite a dumb one, but I just want to get your opinions, thoughts and maybe some useful tips:

-what do you talk about with girls who you meet online and plan to have some bed fun later once you're in LOS, just so they have idea that you're up to some fun and spending a good time together, and not serious brain-screwing relationshiops/friendship? How do you meet in reality and proceed later to your hotel room? How do you end those "relationships" so they don't get disappointed etc? And how do you tell the difference between those who are really "just looking for friends" and the ones who are up to something more?

I've been to Thailand only one time, and only had friendship type of online girls. However, in bars/clubs I sometimes got normal girls (only a few though) who didn't mind coming with me to my place after just a couple of hours partying together. I'm in my 20s and guess girls are up to some not-(openly)-commercial fun with young farangs,. But I'd like to improve my online-hunting skills to "line up dates" as they often say here before I ever come back to our beloved land of smiles, so any advice from you guys would be greatly appreciated!

Also, I might be going again to Thailand in July, still deciding, so the ones who are there now, or have been around this time, what would you say about weather conditions? does the rain really make the season "slow"? BTW, seems like the Hua Hin area is drier than BKK and Pattaya.

Any comment on that?

Thanks to everyone here for usefull info!

well john - buying a computer in Thailand is sure to cost more than a lot of other places. Maybe try "mail order". Thai prices for SODIMM seems about 20% higher as well

at least the poo-ying are "reasonable" :)

Aeon bank is the only one now not charging the 150baht fee.

Given some peoples concerns for hardware problems (never had a problem myself) I suggest that you go to an ATM at a bank branch and use it during working hours, so that should there be any problem you can walk inside with the receipt for any problems.

But I say again, I have never had a problem, and no 150baht fee.

For all those that say its not "worth the hassle". Thai's have always scammed foreigners on the basis that "always more stupid ones coming along to replace the others already ripped off".

Why pay 150 baht for nothing to the Thai banks. They are scamming you. And if you let them then well, you are a walking ATM for Thai bankers. LOL

Pro,

Just a clarification! Not always the case using ATM's at Branches, First you will only get a receipt if you get a transaction in my case a clock kept on spinning and gave me a response after a few minutes that the Transaction requested couldn't be process. I was at the Branch and the attendant saw exactly what happen. But the branch can't do anything for you regarding such a transaction. They will put you on the phone with someone, somewhere? But the Branch will not be able to help you!

Like I said this has happen only in Pattaya, I have gone into Bangkok ( using the website you listed ) went around to the branches, nothing! All try to put me on the phone just like Pattaya, I research Aeon and notice they had Corporate offices on the corner of Sukhumvit and Asoke, the highrise across from Soi Cowboy, went to the 25-26-27 floor same result, spoke on the phone, no results, no one would come out and who knows who I was talking to or where?

If you know a place I can speak to someone in person that has the power to resolve my problem right there and then so I can show them the documentation that I never received the money I surely would like to know but everywhere I have gone they try to put me on the phone. It is not like in the U.S. banking system you can go into any branch and it would be taken care of but in Thailand hell no and no way!

Good luck to those that they don't get burn because like the Pro said we are all walking breathing ATM's as soon as you get off the airplane!
