Dan isn't ashamed to say that he's spent a lot of time in karaoke bars and red light districts around Thailand. After all, he's just one of many Western men doing the same thing.

But while Dan could be your average Australian sex tourist there's one thing that sets him apart; he's actually an undercover rescue worker, searching for [CodeWord902] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord902) girls and trafficking victims.

"It's a rough industry," he admits, as we talk of the girls he has seen rescued and the men who travel to Thailand to purchase them.

While the exact figures vary, research has shown Australian men to be among the largest contributors to sex tourism in southeast Asia, with cities such as Pattaya becoming a "home away from home" for an increasing number of Australian retirees.

However, despite being surrounded by beautiful beaches, cheap dining and endless sex, Dan says that many of the Western sex tourists he meets still feel like "something is missing".

"These men who've moved to Thailand, moved to Pattaya, moved to Bangkok, they've all got the same story," he says, sharing with me about the sex tourists and expats he's gotten to know over the years.

"They think coming to Thailand for sex is going to fill a void in their lives, so they pursue this dream — and then they realise that the lifestyle they've chosen is empty and meaningless. ".

Over the years Dan has spent time talking to many western sex tourists, many of whom — he says — seem to share a hauntingly universal story of broken relationships and regrets.

"At first they say, 'I get sex whenever I want, it's great!' But when you go a little bit deeper they always talk about their broken relationships, and how their marriage was the only one time that they felt true intimacy and love; that they could truly trust somebody," he reveals.

In particular, Dan remembers an Australian man who threw away his relationship back home to follow a lifestyle of freedom and pleasure in Thailand; a decision the man admitted was the 'biggest regret of his life. '.

"he tried everything to fill the void," says Dan. "Sex with young girls, sex with ladyboys, everything. And then one day he got to a point where he was like, 'what's next? What's left to try?

Incredibly however, for a man who has at times seen the worst of humanity, and heard every possible excuse, Dan can't help but feel sadness for the men he meets.

"Understandably, a lot of people in Australia, a lot of women, look at these men with bitterness and hatred and anger, but when you talk to these men, you realise the truth; that they're hurting men, they're lost men, they're men who've made decisions that have set them on a path of destruction," he explains.

Recognising that each of these men are fighting their own battles does not mean that Dan condones their behavior, but rather, he understands that sex tourists need help to overcome their addictions — which in some cases, are killing them.

Over the past five years there have been many reports of Western men "obsessed with the Pattaya lifestyle" committing suicide from their hotel balconies; some of which have been caught on camera.

"Pattaya is meant to be the capital for men who want to move overseas for sex, but so many men commit suicide there," says Dan sadly.

"We were working with police and they showed us a video of a guy who threw himself off his balcony. They call it the 'Pattaya Plunge. '.

Discussions on the website 'Thai Visa' show that Western suicides are common, with many referring to the mysterious deaths as 'the Pattaya Flyers club. ' Some attribute the high rate of deaths to the region's wild and unsustainable lifestyle.

" . All the balcony jumpers is becoming all too frequent (sic)," says one user.

"Maybe after all it isn't paradise here, as some want us to believe?" says another.

It's an issue that has caught the attention of several organisations and ministry groups around Thailand such as Night Light International, and the MST Project, both of which aim to provide support to male sex tourists.

It's something that Dan agrees is well needed, not only to help men overcome their addictions, but to also help stop the damage done to young girls caught in the industry.

"I think if there were a group of men who went to the bars to meet these guys — not to preach at them — but to get alongside these men, to become mates with them and listen to their stories. That would definitely help," Dan says.

As we come to the end of our chat, I ask the rescue worker what he would say to these men if he could say anything; if he didn't have to hide who he was.

As a newbie to Thailand, taxis would misunderstand where I wanted to go, purely because I could not pronounce places properly.

If you tell the taxi to take you to Colonze, you have better pronounce it Co-lawn-SAY, or they will look baffled. And La Defense becomes Lar-day-fawng, Chao Phya 2 becomes Jao-Phra-Yar Song. Its all so tricky for a newbie.

I was once taken to the wrong place because I did not say "In-trar" when I wanted to go to the Indra Regent Hotel. I ended up at the Regent Hotel instead.

First time I asked a taxi to go to Henri Dunant road I had no idea it had to be pronounced: "Ang-ree-doo-nang". I don't know if this is close to the French way or not.

Kan sounding Garn is a common Thai girl's name, too, short for Kanchana (sounds like Garn-ja-nar), or also can be short form of Sukanya.

In most Thai words or syllables starting with a K, it sounds like a G (but lacking a buzz or vibration of an English G). If they really want the English K sound, then Kh will be used, as in Sukhumvit / Sukhumwit.

Hence Bongkot massage sounds like Bong-got. Kai sounds like Gai and is the chicken. Khai is the egg.

To get and English T or P (aspirated) sound, usually use Th or Ph in the English spelling of the Thai word, as in Thai and Phuket.

An English Th sound does not exist in Thai language, nor in German. Other English sounds that don't exist in Thai:
Th, Sh, v, x, z,
and lots of consonant sounds in English never appear at the end of a Thai word, e.g.:
f, h, j, l, q, r, s.

Thai l and r are a bit different to English versions.

Many Thai vowel sounds are rather different to English vowels and closer to European vowel sounds like in German as an example.

Unfortunately it takes a very long time to learn Thai pronunciation properly, to include the tones. I would say first 6 months of learning Thai is concentrating on pronunciation. That is the hard part. Vocab is not so tough and Grammar is easy, so little to learn. If someone gets past the first 6 months of hard work, Thai gets a lot easier over time.

I try to learn Isaan too now, however find the pronunciation of the tones very difficult to comprehend, and difficult to find any teacher that can explain it properly, even if they speak Isaan. So the tones are different to normal Thai. Tricky.

Amazing what a street vendor sells a whole BBQed chicken for these days. Could be close to 200 Baht. I could get it in a Germany roast chicken shop for much less than that. 15 years ago, the BBQed chicken was sold vastly cheaper than modern prices in Bangkok, perhaps 50 Baht (I can't remember exactly), yet everyone is surprised when prices of girls goes up some similar amount.

Om means to keep something in the mouth (like a sucker or a dick). Rhymes with Home I guess but shorter. Some Thai words are very difficult to make into an English approximation.

Years ago, in addition to Thai language classes, I got to listen to Thai a lot by watching Thai Soap Opera videos, when I was not actually in Thailand, once my Thai reached a basic level. These can be obtained on Youtube, however it is hard to find any of these serials that are really watchable. Most are a bit too childish and too over acted. In the modern day I use Thai language every day in Thailand. Hardly speak English.

At start, everyone needs a good strict teacher to fix pronunciation problems. Wrong pronunciation makes you non understandable, wrong grammar is not a problem at all. besides Thai grammar is exceptionally easy. Learned with a few basic drills of the patterns.

I am here 30 to 40% of the time. For any guys exceeding these levels of attendance, I do recommend to learn Thai. My task now is to learn Isaan dialect when I have time. If you have no time to dedicate to a language, it becomes a bit hopeless. Really needs consistent effort, nearly every day.

So junk food (high calories low nutrition) places like Maccas (McDonalds) and KFC are not the cheapest way to eat, if cheap is a major factor. You can get more nutritional dishes containing vegetable content for 30 or 40 Baht. Maybe up to 90 Baht for a good quantity of meat to be added. You can live very cheaply. Its mongering that costs significant money.

I try to cut down significantly on dining in restaurants as its a waste of money. Even cook my own food here, although not cheaper than buying it ready made. If I eat in restaurant, I want reasonably good quality, same as if I monger I want a reasonably good quality girl, not always the cheapest.

I never eat KFC or McDonalds. I am watching my weight somewhat, and I never used them even when not dieting.

They sell exotic brands of Ice Cream at incredible prices. Not sure if these stores also operate in non tourist areas.

I suggest you boycott KFC in Pattaya at least, if the price really matters. I would. My 249 Baht could do much better. I bought a whole roast chicken the other day for 109 Baht in Tesco Lotus. I have a microwave and fridge so that will last me several meals. A quarter at a time is enough protein. I add vegetables separately. If I am lazy to cook, I can buy a pre-prepared meal serve in a plastic bag at local street side stalls, often 30 to 40 Baht. I known this is not relevant to you but I suggest it to others looking to save money. I don't have microbe phobias so am happy to buy from street stalls that do brisk business and have fresh stuff. I don't eat French fries and rarely eat rice. These are considered junk filler non-nutritional stuff. I do eat bad stuff sometimes when it is sufficiently enticing. I try to keep sugar intake well down. That is not possible at McDonalds that put sugar even on French Fries and have high sugar buns. It is possible to get a reasonable quality hamburger at certain places and I do. Nana Hamburger stand is not one of them. The guy who runs that now is dumb and buys low quality meat.

My usual spot that makes a good Burger is at @Corner bar opposite The Old Dutch restaurant at end of Cowboy. I don't take French fries and haven't checked out anything other than Burger with everything, in my case including fried onions and they have pepper to put on if you like (essential for me), and a variety of sauces. Fortunately they do not put on any Mayo or other crap which would make it soggy. I am sure you can you own mayo if desired. The quality of the meat is reasonable. My favourite waitress is named Carrot. She is funny.

The views of guys with interesting girls or LBs walking past is quite entertaining, not exactly always candy, but some very nice looking girls. It's right next to Baccara.

For a more exotic burger (at a higher price), Bradman's sports bar Soi 23 has a lot of interesting burger variations. I went to local Tesco Super Market and local food stalls.

Spent a total of 400 Baht, on nutritious food including vegetable dominated content in most dishes, supporting low Carbohydrate diet to enable weight loss.

Will last me 3 days plus including today, where have only eaten Rolled Oats so far. Can be refrigerated and reheated.

So can live on about $5 a day for food, no problems, it have a microwave, and eat at home. This is buying very affordable types of food, no imported stuff.

Rent for me in this room is 8000 Baht per month with furniture, plus electricity is extra. I supply a portable Induction Cooker and microwave.

So rent plus electricity is about $10 per day. In another 10 to 20 years It won't be this good of course.

My location is not totally optimal for mongering. LOL. Chosen by GF. In future I will move to a house in the country, for the quiet life, so I will probably not be in Bangkok sufficiently to justify renting by the month any more.

Yes I have eaten a burger at Clubhouse Grill too. Was a little less exotic than some of Bradman's burgers, or less unusual if you like. The place opposite is called Whisgars and the Restaurant part is called Craft I believe. I once met the probable head chef of Craft, before it opened, who was dining in Bradman's Sports Bar at the time. He was pretty confident his restaurant was going to be very special quality, but I haven't tried. I assumed the price would be higher. I guess he was an American. Chef's at Bradmans are Thai of course but well trained in Western food.

Chefs at @corner bar Burger Stand are from Myanmar most likely. They don't speak Thai as well as I do. However they do a good job. They know exactly how I want it.

The Nana Plaza Burger Stand have very inferior burgers. I suggest do not take one from there. Really crap meat. Is it even beef? The colour is light. Full of fillers?Burgers- Burgers and Bangers on the sub-soi right before Suk Soi 20 or Chunky Soi 23 turn right after Craft.

Craft is very expensive. Want some good craft beer? Hit Wishbeer on Suk 67 for happy hour. 200 baht pints of Euro and US beer.

Oskar's Bistro has a pretty tasty cheeseburger served up with hand cut fries and as a bonus you can check out some of the well dressed FL's while you are there. Ha Ha. Additionally I am sure many of the classy 5* hotel restaurants will serve up a quality burger too. The worst burger I have ever tried was the MOS Burger in Central World. What an abomination. You got to love the Japanese, not.

I heard good things about Firehouse and wanted to try it one hot late afternoon, but it is a small restaurant and the only available seating at that moment was outside so I passed on it. I will give it a try sooner or later. The burgers looked good.

Whisgars / Craft has another location on the corner of Silom and Surasak. I passed by it one afternoon and smiled. The branch on Soi 23 is very popular. I like a good craft beer as much as anybody. My current favorite brew is Dogfish Head 120 minute IPA. A really tasty brew. I wonder if it is available in BKK. Kind of doubt it.

El Gaucho; I have walked past the place so many times. Sounds like it is the real deal, but $100 for a steak, yikes, that's more expensive than the Capital Grill back home. Does it come with parmesan truffle fries or at least an empanada on the side. 555. Thanks for the tip.

Putting things back into perspective, the Cowboy burger stand is going to cost you $5 for a pretty good burger. A large (too large for me) pretty good quality steak can be had else where for $25 (e. Syzygies, I am not as analytical or as precise as you are. I just know what I like when I see it and over time I have noticed that my tastes run fairly consistent. I like girls with a certain natural sweet sexy look. In the selection you posted I like #1 and #4. They just look cute to me and very doable. Comments like, "I don't see any attractive Asian girls in this video" or "Can you make a video of just girls who are "10". Or other comments derogatory towards the general appearance of the women in the video. And it has occurred to me that a lot of guys have an idealized idea of how an Asian girl should look. They have Asian women in porn, or hot yet atypical Asian actresses who appeal to them. But, they have no appreciation of a normal Asian girl. They would feel more comfortable with a tanned, blonde if they had their choices. And hence, I think a lot of commentary about women's appearances isn't exactly made by people who actually like Asian women. They want to see hot Asian women according to their ideals, not what is out there. So that is why I am always wary of commentary on women's appearances. But, I will make my own judgement next month, and I imagine I will find a dizzying selection of girls I find attractive, if not just hot. What other people think is irrelevant.

How can you guys tell if nose surgery is involved? For beauty I like 1, 4, 3, 2. For natural noses 1, 4, 2, 3. No. 91 at Crazy House has a very good nose job. Top is very straight (bone inserted) and it can be just guessed to be a nose job as the tip is extended out from the face more than normal for Thais (normal is flatter or smaller or more bulbous). It is such a good job, I have no trouble taking her at all and find her quite pretty. I just wish all the nose jobs were so excellent. It is 165 kilometers from Bangkok. Cost you around THB 2000 single fare for a taxi.

He was doing it along the open highway and I thought WTF, so I discussed it with him.

It turns out that most pinoys learn to drive in jeepneys or what they call "owner jeeps", and the poor quality engines without electronic fuel injection require continuous pumping of the throttle pedal to keep the fuel up to the level.

I explained how modern cars don't need to be driven like this and I asked him to try holding his foot steady and see what happened in our new Pajero.

He was very concerned at first but then started smiling as he realized that the engine didn't cut out and the ride was suddenly smooth.

I suspect that this need to pump the pedal started back in the day with jeepneys and, in Thiland, with tuk tuks or such, and the myth was passed across to everyone that it's how you learn to drive.

As AR says, you just have to say something because it is simply a habit for them. So many drivers do it in the Philippines but I am (slowly) educating them.

Don't bother to read if you are not trying to speak Thai.

I post this to give those thinking about learning to speak Thai, a good concept of what they must struggle with.

1. Some Thai consonants are tricky. NG sound at the start of a word. Practice to say Ringing as Ri-Nging, in order to get how this is done. BP sound is like a P but unaspirated (no puff of air), like the P at end of the word Stop. DT sound is like T but unaspirated, like T at the end of the word Rot. These consonant problems are the least of your worries. Ha ha.

2. Getting the 5 tones (mid, Low, Falling, Rising, High). Even mid tone is unusual for farangs as it is a higher than normal voice pitch for a Farang and falls away slightly. This requires months of practice, and even after years and years, I still slip up with wrong tones.

3. Getting the vowel sounds correct. Unlike English, if you pronounce vowels differently, you may not be understood. There are several vowel sounds in Thai that are not like English. EU is like German you with an umlaut, but must be said with a horizontally wide stretched but closed mouth. It is like the sound of straining on the toilet to take a shit. Two types of O sound in Thai are not like English O sounds. Most Thai vowels can be short or long and it matters. I once asked for Satay Gai (Chicken Satay sticks) but received Chicken Steak, because in the word Satay, the second vowel has to be very short in Thai language, like the word Step with the P sound removed. So I learned if pronunciation is slightly off what Thais expect, they possibly won't get it. If you pronounce the name of Soapy Colonze in farang style, the taxi driver won't get it. Has to be something like Co-lawn-SAY. Thai words always stress the last syllable. E. g. Com-pu-***.

4. It is not necessary to learn Thai script in learning to speak Thai. However if eventually you want to be able to read and write Thai, or SMS chat in Thai, the Thai does have an alphabet (weird one), and learning to read and write Thai can be done from a book without a teacher. I recommend guys to learn to speak Thai first, just like a child learns to speak long before he can read and write.

So if you want to learn Thai, expect to spend the first few months concentrating on the all critical nuances of the pronunciation. For this you need a teacher to correct the wrong pronunciation. You can learn vocab by yourself, but a good teacher is quite essential to correct pronunciation mistakes. That means a picky (strict) teacher who does not just let the wrong pronunciation go by. You can getting a Talking Thai Dictionary software to run on your PC or smart phone, including the Thai pronunciation. However hearing it said right, does not mean you can produce close to the same without teacher training.

If you spend a lot of time with Thais and in Thailand, and have plenty of spare time to practice with Thais who don't speak English, then learning Thai can be a good idea. I bit the bullet and got started on Thai 25 years ago. If you have not got the time, and determination to keep at it, then don't bother. After my first few months of classes, I spent a long holiday in Thailand mostly trying to communicate in Thai language with girls who could not speak English, and looking up dictionaries a lot, due to my relatively weak Vocab at the time. Today my Vocab is quite good, and I can think in Thai, without the need to translate. Consult dictionary rarely now.

Thai is difficult at first due to the pronunciation issues. However once this hurdle is overcome, the grammar is extremely simple, not like German, French, etc. , and the its just a matter of vocab and how to use the words correctly in context. So Thai is all up not a difficult language at all. I found German far more difficult, due to grammar issues and strange word sequences. Thai sentence word order varies from English only a little bit, the most notable being adjectives are shifted after the noun ("chicken grilled" instead of "grilled chicken" and most question words move to the end of the sentence (e. G. You asked me what?, you live where?

Finally there are "natural method" learning Thai classes where teacher speaks only Thai and there is never any translation. This is a good method if you have massive time on your hands. Progress is very slow in early stages. For learning Thai quickly, I don't recommend it. Better off to learn the Thai words and have an explanation of the meaning in English. Otherwise an old brain takes too long to assimilate new stuff.

The younger you are, the easier it is to learn new stuff. Young brain is like a sponge. Old brain is a dried up sponge not working so well.

To learn vocab there are special Flip Cards (e. G. Flashcards Deluxe) applications to run on your Smartphone, that can show Thai words (or phrases) on one side and English meaning on other side, and program causes you to revise words you got wrong more frequently.

I started learning in a class 6 hrs per week, as it was much cheaper, and worked okay For me. I have used individual tutoring as well. A bit better but more costly. In a class you can be held back by the crap students who do not practice at home.

On the non-hobby side from my quick September trip I have a few notes. Bully's still does a solid, though no-where near Bangkok's best burger, but if you are looking in the Nana area it's a nice place to start. The michelan star tim ho wan branch in T21 is solid dim sum, it's no Hong Kong, but still pretty good. I also got out to the what Lad Prao that stick wrote about this year and enjoyed it as an off the beaten path temple and something different to see.

Also on this trip I finally took the plunge and started using motorbike taxis a bit more. My previous experience was limited to a ride back to hotel with a semi drunk pattaya bar girl driving. Protocol: usually, you don't hang on to the driver. Thai people too don't hang on to the driver. They hang on to the handles underneath the seat. If you grasp tightly, and tighten your arms (so there is no give from left to right), you will stay stable. I've done this carrying some heavy duffel bags too, and it's fine.

My one annoyance with the motocys is the necessity to don that stupid toy helmet. It's usually made out of plastic, with no foam protection, and so it is all a sham to make it seem like there is a safety protocol in place. But that thing is a bacteria festival on steroids, and it does no good. But you have to do it.

Motorbike taxis drivers are use to customers grabbing the handles in the back. But as noted locals just seem to sit and being relax. I've driven for over 10 years now here in Pattaya started with a small Honda Click at times packing 3 small kids on the bike around. I've also packed friends large and small.

If you are on a motorbike even going a short distant with 3, there is not much choice but grab on to the bars in the back but the normal position is to put your hands on the shoulder of the passenger in front. As a driver on these small bikes the worse thing a passenger can do is grab hard and tense to the bars. When this is done every little movement you make is felt by the driver and it throws the entire bike off and if the driver doesn't know what they are doing it can be dangerous. If one can try to sit, relax and use your inner thighs.

One of the first times I hopped on a motorcycle taxi the driver and another taxi driver standing next to us literally placed my hands on the driver's waist. Not a wrap around hug. In relation to sitting on a motorbike, the driver won't really mind how much you hug him. He would be well used to it and Thai men don't have touching phobias. Two hetero Thai men could even sleep on the same double bed if need arose. The important point for customer is to not sit too far back in the seat. Your weight needs to be in front of the back wheel (definitely not weight on hands holding the back handles). Try not to sit to stiffly if possible. I am not used to sitting with legs apart, so I have to hitch up my leans a little so they are not too tight. Some motorcycle seats are not level and slope forward. I hate this. During พ ร ร ษ า phansa, which is a period of 3 months, starting on the first day of the waning moon of the eighth lunar month, Monks are not to travel and must stay in the same place and dedicate that period to intense meditation. This is the beginning of the rainy period in many places in Asia, so it made perfect sense to stay inside during that period. The practice actually predates Buddhism.

Non-monks are under no such strictures, although very pious Buddhists may give up or at least reduce use of alcohol or smoking or eating meat. It is indeed common for all Buddhists at the start of the phansa to have a week of not eating meat and go daily to the temple. In most temples free vegetarian food is dispensed during that time. Those who partake of the food are expected to give some alms to the temple, all according to what you can afford. It buys you big "face" and brings good standing in the community. Your name and the amount of your gift will be written on a wall for all to see!

I don't think you will notice anything different. At the end of the three months of phansa there is a festival where people go to temple to offer thanks to the monks and bring them new clothes. Nothing like Mardi Gras at all. Mardi Gras would be difficult to understand for Buddhists.

Again, don't apply your western ideas of religion to Buddhism. Christians are obsessed about sex. Buddhism is not. You can be a good Buddhist and still enjoy sex without remorse. A Buddhist working girl is not shunned by the monks or other people in the community. Well it would not be the first week of Phansaa, would it? Thanks for all your details, however some additional critical points (for 2016 only) are:

* Khao Phansaa (Enter the Phansaa) was on 20 July.

* Ook Phansaa (Exit from Phasaa Ceremony) will be on 16th October (approx. 3 months later).

* Thot Kathin (Giving of the orange robes etc. To monks) is on 17th October.

* Chulalongkorn day (Memorial day) is on the 23rd October.

The girl wants to meet him on 24 October, meaning that is probably when she returns to Bangkok after all the religious ceremonies. Could be a situation where her brother is a monk in another province. Just speculating a little. However I don't see the whole thing as particularly unusual, for a Thai girl to be missing for several days from 16th October onwards. Sex maybe completely irrelevant.

So I did get a bit more research in on Wan OK Phansa and its significance, and the events that accompany it. First things first! I indicated it was no problem, and I meant it, for the reasons I indicated earlier. We can meet up on week 2 when I might have exhausted my interest in P4 P relationships. However, she was quite excited and pleased that I had taken the time to study Buddhism and understand her convictions a bit more.

On another note, she is a native of Nakhon Phanom, where Wan OK Phansa is apparently met with serious festivities and rituals all week long that set it apart from the rest of the country (At least that is what I read). There is an annual flotilla of "fire boats" that travels down the Mekong River at NP to mark the end of "Buddhist Lent" (As WikiVoyage calls it). So, I am thinking her approach to this holiday, and her practices might not reflect the general population. But, I will find out and report back.

But don't forget. The prohibition on alcohol sales on the 16th of this month!

If you subtract the Foreign ATM transaction fees of 200 Baht and do not have any other fees from your bank, you will not beat the exchange rate you get from your ATM debit card. Same thing applies to Visa and Mastercard.

At the currency exchange shops, there is a buy and sell rate. Better shops will have smaller spreads. The ATM debit card will give you the best possible buy rate. Last week, this exchange rate was the same as the TT currency exchange shop rate in Pattaya. The exchange shops need to make money; there should not be a place with a better rate.

When you arrive at BKK airport, there is collusion with all the currency exchange shops. They all have the same bad rates. For example, last week, the buy/sell cash rates at the airport were 32.XX/35.XX when it was 34.XX/35.XX outside the airport. But the exchange rate you get with the ATM at the airport will be the best possible rate you can get. The currency exchange shops cannot affect the exchange rates on the ATM which is on that international banking system. The ATM exchange rate at the airport was the same as the TT currency exchange shop in Pattaya. That chain seems to have the best rates in Pattaya.

Some people reported bad rates using the ATM. Those people probably are accounting for the foreign ATM transaction fee of 200 Baht, possible foreign transaction fees, and possible junk fees from their own banks. As reported many times, if you get the best ATM cards, these fees are avoided.

Here is the equation you need to use to get the exchange rate (assuming you are refunded the 200 baht fee and assuming you have no other fees from your bank):

(Baht amount you take out + 200 baht fee) divided by (amount you are charged from your bank).

The above also applies to the Angeles ATMs.

There is a very big bookstore (with a Japanese sounding name) in Emquartier mall and Siam Paragon. Several years ago, taking photos or short video clips was not much of an issue. Almost all girls were be OK with a number of normal photos, often semi-naked (with a towel or bra / panties). A sizeable number, perhaps 30% were OK even with the harder stuff. As an amateur photographer (never was into video) I never had to pay extra for it, though I would tip if they were more patient than usual. It was more of an issue of annoyance / going with the flow, with no vehement fear of being photographed or filmed. Sure, some girls were aware punters might share pics on the internet, but it was rarely on top of their mind. No trying to hide faces, no worrying at all, taking pics was just another mild fetish a punter had.

Smartphones and Facebook have change this dramatically. Now all the girls know you can send a picture to anyone instantly, and are concerned about privacy. Often, they wouldn't even be comfortable even with fully clothed pic. Moreover, Thai working girls are far less patient these days, so even if you manage 5-10 photos, they'll start giving you the annoyed vibe and ask to move on. It's definitely much harder. This law seems very strange since in Thailand, only a certain percentage of "marriages" actually have a marriage certificate. In Thailand a man and a woman living together are considered to be married (or husband and wife), even if there is no official marriage certificate. In old times, if a bad storm caused a man and woman to be stuck under one roof for the night, then they would often be considered to man and wife, and stuck with each other for the long term. Boom!Personally, I think the quality of girls is better in Bangkok than in Pattaya. If you are looking at "getting really nice girls", I would stay with Bangkok. I have been to Pattaya about 20 times, and Bangkok about 100 times. Of all the girls I have ever been with in Thailand, I wouldn't rate any girl I have had in Pattaya in the top 100. Singapore is one of the most expensive cities in the world, very noticeable with Hotel prices. Too expensive for me to spend much time there. Bangkok is way cheaper, of course I do not pick the most expensive Hotels like the Shangri-La. This is well known. I can't think where you fly from.
A good value for money Hotel in Bangkok Sukhumvit area should be cheaper than the equivalent in Singapore, in the 4 to 5 stars category.

Last year went to Orchard Tower mongering venue and was a little underwhealmed. Happy I had a nice Thai girl with me.

If you have he financial means, it is definitely worth making the change from Singapore to BKK. It isn't nearly as clean and "safe", but your mongering options are literally wide open.

Something's not right there. There is virtually no way Bangkok would end up being more expensive than singapore unless you are restricted somehow in your flight options. A 4* and even some of the of 5* shouldn't run you more than 100 USD. Everything else is cheaper in BKK too. Transport, food, drinks, even the baht is down against most currencies. I suggest checking your math again.

My brother just recently purchased a ticket from the USA to Bangkok on Singapore Air flying mid January and the round trip ticket was only $831. Yes, the week prior to him flying was about double that price. I believe prices drop drastically when the kids go back to school.

Airlines want to increase their yields, not only the Load Factors.

So they set lots of factors in the rates. These can change for the very same flight even during the same day.

They record destination events, happenings, type of passengers.

A huge melting pot and a day plus or minus may not only mark a time difference but a price difference too.

If you fly "via" somewhere you might get a better price as the main flight is not that busy and so the price is more convenient, still you might not get the final leg at a bargain price as that will factor in.

The airfares (major airlines, not low cost) to and back from BKK from nearby KUL, SIN, HKG are never really cheap.

The air traffic if you take Eva can be heavy between Taipei and Bangkok, play around with the dates and you might see the fare during this period higher on certain dates?

The basic economics have evolved over the years here to be mostly about a short time experience, followed by another and another, etc etc. So long time of any sort can get expensive. Thanks for your support.It's hard to recommend since most of us do not need a tour guide. Most Hotels sell tourist tours. They provide a guide. Palace has guides on site.

Some tourist tours are rather bullshit though IMO, e.g. Floating market and Rose Garden, Bridge on the river Kwai, etc. being efficient is more about doing enough research beforehand to know what things are really worth doing. Not about having a guide with a different agenda to lead you up the garden path. Most tours are padded and take too much time however. Maybe a private guide can work if you are clear what things you want to do and that you have little time to do them.

For mongering purposes you need a buddy who knows a wide variety of places, or research the forum, and use Google maps to find where all the target venues are located. I don't see how a girl can help with mongering type exploring.
