I can concur with this report, but i have a possible theory why its occuring. About two years ago Korea cracked down on its P4S industry, due to a report from the EU which claimed Korea had the highest work-girl/population ratios in the world. The guys i worked with turned to golf, or overseas business meetings. The Japanese soon after tightened up their entertainment visa regulations and a lot of the foreign girls were forced out (A lot went to HK and some to singapore) I assume this meant supply was tight in japan and perhaps they are doing the same thing, over seas business trips. (The japanese use to go to korea for this type of entertainment, but that option was cut off).

They are all coming to bangkok perhaps? If correct, once things returns to normal in Korea and Japan, the numbers of japanese and korean guys will drop - perhaps.


Not likely, I know of some Korean guys that said its now "word of mouth" that much easier and safer to monger in LOS=(meaning not get caught at home by police raids). So the trend is expect an increase from those countries (Korea and Japan). Its not really that expensive for them for RT flights to BKK or rest of LOS, so still ends up alot cheaper for them to monger than at home.

Given the current situation of P4S in Korea, it seems that the crackdown did effectuate a minor shuffle but the establishments have resurfaced and seems to be a non-issue, especially for the locals.

Recent issues in Busan may spark about foreigners coming to Bangkok but I do not think that the Korean/Japanese visitors will dissipate any time soon.

Of course you got to consider the geography and economics to whoring in Thailand. It's just plain cheaper than whoring in Korea and Japan so of course the prices get diluted.

I agree, things are almost back to normal, especially the BBS, but the KTV's still do the crazy 10min sex close off thing for the locals - so at the end of the KTV experience all the guys need to get their jollys at the same time and very quickly - that way, getting caught in a raid is minimised. While the police activity has dropped dramatically, the locals are still still scared of getting caught and having their picture go public - i think the memory of those terrible times will take a while to go away.
The other factor is after going to bangkok, there tends to be a lot of repeat business. The only problem for these guys is a lot of korean women travel before they get married, and typically they go to bangkok, so they know what goes on. So i think the "important business meeting" excuse will soon get exhausted.
But from experience, its the japanese who tend to overpay, because its so damm expensive in tokyo. 10000yen for a Blow Job, or about 5000baht. And the japanese gov is still making it hard for entertainers to come to that country.

I've been "socializing" with my massuese. Traditional Thai massage at Lek's on Soi 22. It's quite good, I recommend it. I've not been looking for extras and I'm thinking they are not available. I dunno if I'd want to be as blunt as "I'm questioning the validity of your sexuality", but I'm sure some excuse could be made. Changed my mind, suddenly tired/sleepy, anything.

Keep rootin' n' reportin'My favourite in Patpong is the Pavillion which is just next to In Traffic. They have two floors, the lower one being short time rooms. The upper floor have normal rooms at about 1,000 per night. I generally take an upper floor room even for short times as they are more comfortable. There are plenty more in the area, the girls know all of them. This one has the added advantage of being next to a couple of bars that stay open after hours, in fact one is open 24/7 as it is owned by a policeman I believe.

There is a short time hotel just next to the entrance of Soi Cowboy on Asoke. Others in the area as well, again the girls know all of them.

If you want to travel a little further, Bourbon Street in Washington Square also do rooms on a short time basis. I tend to use this for non pro Thai girls as it is fairly discrete and not too obvious.

Depending on the establishment, most often they will return your barfine as it is not what you had in mind (also true for regular gals--if they turn to real bitches even before the action in bed--could return defective product for full refund)

Since you've already been answered, this is more of a general follow-up based on my own experience. I'm sure others have had their own experiences, as well and it would be interesting to hear from anyone else who has "smuggled a protestant girl into the Vatican" or worse, tried to take a Thai girl to another country. Everywhere is different. But, in general because of Thailand's world-wide reputation as having the 2nd largest sex-industry in the world (Brazil, apparently is #1) all Thai women are immediately viewed as potential hookers trying to get into other countries to ply their trade.

I took my Thai GF to Canada in 2001 and had to jump through hoops to get her a 3 month visa. Firstly, I stress that she was not P4P, but worked as a secretary at the university at which I worked at the time. We applied months in advance. She had a letter of recommendation from the vice-rector of the university (a Thai woman of some importance in Thai education) who obviously knew us both very well. She had a letter of guarantee from my family to fully support her while in Canada. My family are fairly rich as well as being well-connected to the Liberal Party, who were the ruling government at the time. My GF and I had been together for two years, already by this point and I of course was a well-established university professor here. Yet because she did not own any property in Thailand (and therefore had no reason to return, in their eyes), she was viewed by the Canadian Embassy as immediately suspect; a possible illegal immigrant aiming to work in some sweat-shop, or more likely a brothel, the minute she landed in Canada. Let's just say they weren't very nice to her and treated her like some common bargirl. I finally managed to get her visa. But, I had to sign a personal financial guarantee for her that made me legally responsible if she did not return with me to Thailand.

In stark contrast to this, I have an American friend who's GF was a bargirl and still very definitely looks like a bargirl, and who was as poor as a church mouse when he met her. But, he's retired here with substantial resources which allowed him to buy her a house and property and a car etc. Consequently, she's travelled to the States inumerable times with hardly any trouble at all.

as Seeko already pointed out, it depends on the "history" of the girl.

For example, I couldn't get a visa for my current Thai GF because she isn't married (of course not) and has no kid. These are the only reasons that are accepted by the embassy to "prove" her will to return to LOS because she couldn't provide a labour contract and a steady income for at least the last 2yrs.

My ex Thai GF on the other hand, got a visa immediately. She isn't married either and has no kids too, but she is working for Thai Airways and studying at Chula. No questions asked, I just had to give the usual guarantees and the visa was issued within 2 days.

If the girl already travelled to Europe and did return within the given time frame a visa will be issued as well, because she already "proved" by her last journey that she will return to LOS.

You could also apply for a visa for marriage. No need to marry afterwards but all necessary paperwork for a marriage needs to be done beforehand to apply for such a visa. If she returns to LOS on schedule the next visa won't be a prob anymore.

So it can be done and only the first trip may cause some probs.

this sort of personal financial guarantee is a precondition to get a visa here in Europe. You have to guarantee that you will not only pay for food and lodging, but for everything else that might occur during her stay in Europe, which includes additional costs if she must be forced to return to LOS.

I even offered the embassy to pay any amount - which they could name and which would make a stay in Europe financially absolutely uninteresting - as deposit to guarantee her return.

They declined my offer. First, because they believe that I simply can't guarantee her return and second because all people must be treated the same. The reason for her return to LOS must be founded within the person applying for a visa !

Their visa policy won't keep away those people who intend to violate the visa regulations but do only punish those who are honest. They simply can't check working contracts and it's easy for anybody to set up a Ltd. They agreed but were bound to certain laws and regulations. So next time we will provide a labour contract issued by a Thai friend of mine who has several companies.

Well, Piper1, for a Shengen Visa (The visa for the Euro Zone) it is hard but not impossible if you are still 6 weeks away, but you better move fast. For a visa to France they request from the girl:
_ 1 Short Trip Form Request.
_ 2 Recent Identity Pictures (Color on white screen).
_ Identity Card Picture.
_ Documents in Proof of her job (job certificate with name & address of her boss or trade office registration for independant workers).
_ Documents in proof of her finacial ressource (saving book, credit card, current account, etc).
_ Round Trip reservation with fixed date.

and of course around 1800 Bht.

From You:
_ Certificate of accomodation from the city hall of your home.
_ Documents in proof of your job and financial ressources (in case the ones from the girl would be insufficient): the last 3 salary sheet (or Trade office registration for the independants) and the last income tax sheet.
_ Letter of motivation explaning the reasons of the visit and insuring that you will take her in charge.
_ Copie of your identity card or your passport.

All the files must be photocopies but they may ask you to show the originals. Also all doc in Thai must be traducted in the appropriate language.

It will take around 3 weeks to get the visa.

After your case is accepted you have to show the plane ticket and a travel medical insurance covering from 30000 Euros (yep that's the minimum).
For this one there is Blue cross who is quite reliable but there is some other.

Just a bit of an update on the Eden Club. I was in BKK June 12-21 and had the pleasure (and I do mean pleasure) of spending time with 9 different Eden ladies. One was a favorite of mine from before, the others were new acquaintances. I had some really over-the-top sessions (an all-nighter with 4 ladies, another all-night session with three, plus various one and two lady sessions). It was all good, VERY GOOD. The set-up at Eden is straightforward. The ladies line up on either the left or right side of the infamous yellow line, depending on whether they do anal or not. If you read the forum, you have all of the info you will need. The rates will become obvious once you are in LOS. Different places have different rates. Different mongers have different opinions on what is the proper amount to tip. It's more important that you have read and understand the basic ranges and work with them as you go from place to place. You can have alot of fun for between 1,000 to 3,000 baht, and it depends on the place, girl, you, etc. etc. etc. Slightly more at a high end place.

I am hearby declaring a moratorium on world cup watching while I am here. Besides the fact that the officiating is increasingly making this event a travesty (witness the Port-Ned game and the end of the Aust-Ita one) and not worth watching, it's taking away from valuable mongering time. With Bangkok's early closing time I barely had an hour last night after the end of the match. Now, I could have taken someone from Giotto's but my top choices were all occupied.

And Fun Pete, the answer is yes, Bangkok is still happening. But the early closing time is definitely still on. Maybe some bars will still be open, but I didn't see any after 1 am. The only place for me to watch the Switzerland-Ukraine game was in my room, not that I'm much interested anymore in watching this event that barely has more credibility than pro wrestling.

Another point I have to make is to always be alert. I did manage to find someone in Soi Cowboy but then she started playing games with the barfine. I had 500 baht change coming back to me and she claimed that she already gave it. It was rubbish and I was able to prove it by showing the combinations of cash I had. Hey as I said I was still learning, thats why I gave the story in the first place, but shit where do you get a good looking girl for 1000 baht long time? This girl only cost me 4000LT, so hardly 3x the going rate, and reading these boards 2-3k seems to be the norm LT. I don't agree that it is really up to us to pay what we want, at the end of the day it is two people entering into a business contract so the price is what we BOTH agree to. The lady knows what she is worth, or should I say is willing to charge or accept, so I don't understand why if you ask how much they don't state a figure, ambit or otherwise to start negotiating rather than saying 'up to you'. Has anyone checked out BarBar, its a new fetish bar in Patpong2, I have frequented the Demonia bar on 33 for these kind of girls in the past but the qualtiy isnt great, just wandered if anyone had heard anything.

I have had the good fortune of meeting a bargirl who really likes me, and have spent nine very pleasant long-times with her at ST prices. Over time I have invested a lot in her, especially respect and teaching. I pay fairly, not excessively, treat her to dinner and sometimes massage, and treat her like a friend. As a result I enjoy the best service I have ever had, LT at a price a bit less than ST, and a good friend as well. For example, she offered to leave the bar work to take care of me for free when I was sick during a visit. Her English is good, and I am learning a lot from her.

I wrote this to help the brothers understand a little about how the system works for money in the go-go bar, your part in the system, her part in the system, and how to make it work for both of you. The bar I am talking about is in one of the best-known entertainment sois on Sukumvit, one that has a name not just a number. I can't speak for all, so I'll talk about my lady as an example of what I have found to be the average.

I don't live in Bangkok but have visited a number of times over the past few years. I don't claim to be a local expert, but I have been successful in finding what I want here.

The Bar

Most bars feature girls wearing scanty clothing, and they close at 0100, which is the law. Some bars go beyond the law with full-nude or sexy shows and stay open until 0200 by paying bribes to the police; these bars have higher prices which pay for the bribes. There is probably a layer of mob involvement, but I am not privy to that.

Visible employees include a mamasan (manager of ladies), people behind the bar, serving ladies who bring drinks and manage your bill (wearing with more clothing), dancing ladies, ladies outside to invite you in, and a man at the door (like a bouncer but smaller). Dancing ladies, serving ladies, and sometimes others wear a badge with a number, and you can ask to hire any of them.

The bar is on the inexpensive side of average in my experience. A beer is 90 baht, bottle of plain water)is 125 baht, lady drink is 90 baht. Bar fine is 500 baht. Other bars charge 600 baht, and one that has a show charges 700 baht for bar fine, and more for drinks. Most ladies ask 1500-2000 for ST.

The Dancing Girl's Contract with the Bar

My lady is a dancing girl, part of a staff that changes as girls come and go for their own reasons, and for the bar's reasons. She is paid a salary of 10,000 baht per month.

To earn her salary, she must
work every day of the month, I think from 1800 or 1900 to closing, with two free days off per month. She can take more days off by paying her own barfine.
achieve a quota of 12 barfines paid per month. She pays each missing barfine.
achieve a quota of 60 lady drinks per month. For each missing lady drink, she must pay 40 baht.

In the bar, dancing happens in shifts of maybe 20 minutes. When she is not dancing, she can talk to customers or leave the customer area, but it is in her own financial interest to spend time with customers.

The Girl and Her Customer

My lady says her usual price (in addition to the bar fine) is 2000 ST, 3000 LT, but nearly all customers take ST. She may ask less if she likes a man. She keeps all money paid after the bar fine and drinks. Most ladies are anxious to get customers; the most attractive ones less so.

Agreeing to go with a customer, and which services she will provide, is up to her to some extent. She can and does say "no" at times, but if a customer complains, she can get into trouble, especially if she is a marginal performer for the barfine quota. Lately my lady has been pestered by a farang she thinks is mentally unstable, and he has complained to the management that his repeated invitations have always been rebuffed. The management sides with the customer, and she may have to change bars.

Saying "no" usually involves claiming she has period or is not feeling well, or saying she already has a customer. Considering she must work almost every day, and an average period is 5-6 days, her period is not always a lie. Some men pay a barfine early and come back later, so the customer story may also be true, even when you don't see one.

Thai girls vary a lot in what services they are willing to provide. Mine does not like oral or anal, for example, and provides mainly intercourse with a condom. You should discuss what you want before paying a bar fine and reaching a price agreement.

Hint: Because she has some choice of customers, you can improve your odds by treating her well:

My lady is from Korat and is Issan. In looks she is 6, or 7 if she is grinning, and 24. She has medium-dark skin which I like but makes her a bit lower-class in Thailand. She is not as poor as some, and has a reasonable Thai education, including good English.

She also has school expenses including transportation.

My lady enjoys working in the bar - she needs companionship, she likes the music and dancing, staying in her apartment is boring. She will not go with Asian men, does not want a Thai boyfriend, and likes farang, not just because of money. She has 10-12 customers per month, no more than one per evening.

A bargirl's life is not easy, but it pays well in terms of Thai income for about 5-8 years. A smart bargirl is building a future with this income, and with an eye towards someone to support her later. Other reports in the Thailand form suggest that a lady can be supported for about 8000 baht per month, which sounds about right from what I've learned. I'm sure there are many other expenses that I have not listed, but lodging is the biggest.

Summary

The more jaded mongerers remind us that we are just the lady's paycheck. The more romantic among us notice that despite looking for love in all the wrong places, we occasionally find it, or at least a friend who treats us well, as I have.

As with anything, you get what you pay for. In this case there is both money and respect to be paid. Thailand is one of the few places where I can expect a good experience for reasonable money, and reasonable odds of GFE.

It is in all of our interests to keep it that way. Don't be a cheap Charlie, and don't grossly overpay. Treat your lady like a lady for your sake and all of ours.

Let me jump in here before some other member tells you to RTFF. What you are looking for is a good massage Parlour and there are many in Bangkok. The best place to find the information you want is on the Massage Parlour thread.

My favourite place for "afternoon delight" is Akame on Soi 33. Others might have different opinions. One thing I do recommend is not to go to Annies. You won't find the quality you are looking for. PM me if there is anything else you want to know.

And IMO the only fair standard is the local standard.

The national minimum wage (then 76B, now 200B) about %240 increase. Other goods & services like food, room rates & air fares were less than %100.

Those comparing LT prices in Thailand to those they get at home will be getting exactly that if they extrapolate their accepted prices of today (3000B) and project them out to 6-7 years from now. (11000B LT??)

But it’s not all doom & gloom prices in Pattaya (and up country) are more or less pegged back with the national wage inflation rate.

Finally i got my act together and post a longer report/article.

My buddie and me usually visit BKK 6 to 8 times a year. We both live in HK so it makes sense to pop over for a long weekend once in a while right ?

Then decision has to be made: Soi Cowboy or Nana. usually we will head to Nana EP for the first night and end up with a bar gal. I rencetly hooked up with waitress in one of the joints and everytime I come back, for the first night I will taker her. No english spoken but believe me we get along just fine.
Day 2:

Usually, after having another go in the morning, send the girl politely to her cab.

also, imho, if you see one wat, you've seen them all. forget the river/canal tour. just take the bts to the river and then get on the river taxi for 20 baht and take it to the end. turn around and come back, get off at the grand palace and you have accomplished all your sight seeing in one afternoon. this saves a lot of time for other activities.

But it’s not all doom & gloom prices in Pattaya (and up country) are more or less pegged back with the national wage inflation rate.

in bangkok, i guess it depends on your tastes, but i usually hit these places:

My only concern is the Japanese, Koreans, American’s (other Hobbyists, asians) who consider 3000B pocket money and will jack the price up over time. As you say, there are plenty of other areas & BG's who are more in line with inflationary trends over the last 15 years, so why pay more?

Heading to Chinatown to shop one Sunday before noon, I veered off the usual route and found myself on unfamiliar streets, not marked on the corners and not marked in the Lonely Planet map. I found duck soup, then found what I did not expect... smiling ladies. Not the sweet young things you find at Poseidon or Nana, but middle-aged ladies, not especially beautiful. The locals' mongering market, or rather one part of what is probably all over Chinatown.

50 baht for a short-time hotel room. It wasn't as bad as you might think. Spartan may be kind, but it was reasonably clean, at least early in the day. Steve, you are indeed correct about the Chinatown area SW. About 99% are older hags/fat ladies well beyond their prime. You were lucky to even find one that spoke english as most do not. I walk thru this area once and was pulled at from several older women at once, but all were not to my taste--sorry they wont stimulate my didi so why waste the money. Most are in the 1-2 class looks/body. If speak Thai, could negotiate price much lower than 300b.
But be warned: Try not to venture here alone at late nite as some of these back streets are not the safest, but ok during afternoon and early evenings.

A few months ago, I had to teach a lesson out of an American-produced textbook to my middle-school-aged Korean students.

The textbook displayed several pictures within this one lesson.

One was of an East Asian-looking woman, middle-aged, working in a garden, possibly pruning, or otherwise picking fruits.

Half of my students promptly said, "She's KOREAN!"

The other half just as quickly answered, "She's CHINESE!"

A full-fledged fist-fight almost ensued.

I rushed in to answer, "SHE'S AMERICAN!"

My reasoning was on these lines: The textbook was written, printed, and published in America. This particular photo, likely as not, shows an American citizen, incidentally female, incidentally middle-aged, incidentally "Asian," working in a garden, whether her own or someone else's.

But, boy oh boy, did my Korean students EVER have trouble grasping that an East Asian might, in fact, by citizenship and residency, be . . . AMERICAN.

Or whatever else.

I'm no great friend of American foreign policy and in fact seriously disagree with almost everything that the US is doing these days, both overseas and domestically,

but will nonetheless submit that the singular GENIUS of the United States of America consists in its historic and prolonged willingness

to admit persons of all ethnicities and nationalies,

to give them all a fair shot at becoming at Americans.

Intersting thing about teaching english - you can do it "immersion" and only speak english in class.

THEY (students) will wind up teaching you their language soon enough (in fact, the exchange is "common"). It is the SUBLETIES that need explanation in THEIR language

It's not widely accepted that english is a TOUGH language for non-natives (it's even tough between native speakers like 'Murcans and Brits - two children of a common mother, separated by a common language - but I digress) - but with the vast mix of languages adopted into english it has more rules and exceptions than most other languages (particularly spelling) For some reason, english seems to try to keep the "native spelling" from the "other language" rather than phonetic-ize it.

I'll answer this question with a few apologies.

Apologies, that is, for answering something non-sex-related on this forum.

I teach English to kids who know a lot of English already.

An example: Just today, I had a new student enroll in my honors high school class. This young woman was born in Australia, as it happens, and has spent most of her life there. She probably speaks English better than she does Korean.

I'm quite lucky to be teaching at one of the very best private schools in South Korea. It's a challenge, too: some of my students, I more than suspect, are smarter than I am! It's a privilege and an honor and a challenge just to stay a step ahead of them.

Teaching English in Thailand, as in China, and far too many other countries, pays s*it. Here in Korea, it can pay fairly well, and allow you to live quite decently, IF (crucial point) you land the right job.

But let's digress--heh, heh, heh--to sex.

I've paid six or seven visits to Thailand now, all within the past three years.

In total, that adds up to between two and three months of my life.

Here's what I've learned:

FORGET Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy. Forget Patpong. Forget the go-go bars generally.

Here's why:

The go-go's will work overtime to shake every last single satang out of your pockets.

That's their job.

On my last but one visit to Soi Cowboy, I had a "stunner," a truly awesomely proportioned young gal, dancing nude on stage, smiling at me like nobody's business.

I can just about swear to you that she was the best-looking woman in that bar, the best dancer, and that all the other punters were turning envious glances in my direction. Why had she chosen ME (a short, fat guy, as it happens), they must have been thinking.

But once she'd come off the stage, it was all mercenary. You buy me lady drink. You buy she lady drink. You buy mamasang drink. You barfine me now, OK, na? Barfine 600 baht. Have upstairs room, 300 baht. Short time 2000 baht, OK? I want go short time, have school tomorrow. You barfine me now, OK, na?

In the end, there were tears in her eyes. Honest to God, tears! (Fake, to be sure.) "You no like me! I need money for school! You give me 500 baht, OK? Give me 600. 700."

Call me a bastard, or a cheepo (or even a Seeko--heh, heh, heh--sorry, pal), or a chump, or whatever else, but somehow the HARD SELL is just . . . not a sell at all. Not for me, anyway. I do NOT spend thousands of dollars on plane tickets to Bangkok only to be manipulated and hard-sold. I'M the boss, now--get it, ladies? I'M the one calling the shots here, not you. (Which means, ironically, that I probably WOULD pay the barfine, and WOULD shag her ass off short- or long-time IF she let ME call the shots, rather than trying to "work" me to fit her needs, her timetable, her expectations.)

And so forget the bars. Forget them.

Freelancers out of the Nana Hotel parking lot know exactly what you want.

And exactly what THEY want. (A thousand baht.)

They know exactly how to deliver it.

And they will give you what you want for 1000 baht--before bargaining.

That's what I learned in Bangkok this last time.

Do be sure to keep your passport, plane ticket, and the bulk of your money in the hotel safe. That way, the worst that she can do, in the worst of all possible scenarios, is kill you off and run away with your small change.

But if you're wise, you'll do short-time, and fear for nothing.

Not to digress from the main topic of this forum, since there is interest re teaching english in foreign (at least asian) countries, here's an idea of a qualified instructor for SAT, TOEFL, GMAT and LSAT exams would generally get as a comp package (I use this because it means you have a skill set, more experience than just a 'native english' speaker, etc):

Hourly wage: btw US$20-45 per hour. In SE Asia, lower end of scale, Korea/Japan higher end. This is reflection of general cost of living, what they charge for comparable courses - the two major employers being Princeton Review and Kaplan (and of course many local prep schools).

Bonus after 6 months - $500, maybe up to $2000.

Living allowances: btwn $200-500 per month (some cases they'll provide you simple studio or comparable - if they do, take it).
Travel allowances: btwn $150-300 per month

Airfare - if full time instructor, they'll pay round-trip economy class if you work one full year (usually one way after 6 months, the return segment after 12th month).

Sounds like a lot? Well, if you average 25-30 hrs per week, salary not bad. But factor cost of housing in say Seoul or HK or Tokyo and not so attractive anymore. For Seoul, Tokyo, and maybe HK, you could gross about $50-60K per year but you'd be teaching 40 hrs a week (which is a lot) and then housing ($1-3K per month) would eat a lot of that!

As english instructor, you'd probably make less. Not much left for mongering.....:)

Now - if you are a certified teacher, with a degree in teaching and with a position at either international or comparable, it's a different story. You should expect to gross $50-60K plus excellent housing/living allowance.

i've got a tiny little bacherlor pad here in busan, within walking distance of the beach. utilities (gas and electricity) are on my dime. but the monthly rent comes out of my employer's pocket. he also picks up the high-speed internet and cable tv bills.

i walk to work, can buy anything i need within walking distance of my home, and so effectively pay no transportation fees.

does all this make me rich? no, not by a long shot.

can i, however, live quite comfortably here in korea, while managing to budget fairly regular trips to thailand (4 or 5 times a year)?

hell yeah!

and i do it all on a six-hour workday.

none of this is meant as a boast, however.

no one yet, to the best of my knowledge, has ever boasted of living and working in korea.

and anyone making any real money (such as my kid brother, back in the states) would laugh out loud at my monthly wage. ***while i laugh at loud at his inability to hit bangkok every other month or so--heh, heh, heh!***

all things considered, then, it ain't half bad.

my kid brother (three years younger) has his mansion, custom-built, has dream car, his gorgeous wife, his cute little daughter, his wonderful life. but he's never yet been to bkk! and so which of us is truly better off?

god knows, i would not, for a moment, trade places with him.

Why do you identify Busan as a "poor neighborhood"?

Koreans do this quite routinely, but in an unthinking way. Busan has beaches--Seoul doesn't. Busan has much cleaner air than Seoul. Busan is more relaxed, more friendly, than any other part of Korea.

It IS, meanwhile, a major port city with a population of something like five million. With a bit of effort, you can find almost anything here.

It's not, fundamentally, a bad place to live.

Though you WILL need to clear out of here for Bangkok to get what only BKK can provide.

And I'm not just talking about sex.

My favorite place in the entire world, hands down, no exceptions, is Al Ahram Egyptian restaurant on Sukhumvit soi 3, I think it is, just beyond the Grace Hotel.

Great menu. Wonderful food. Nice ambiance.

Call me a pervert, if you will, but I spend the big bucks flying down to BKK not for Soi Cowboy (who needs it, really?), or Nana Plaza, or any other such triviality.

I fly down to sit in the world's best restaurant and enjoy a nice mutton masala with curried rice, side dish of vegetables, and Turkish coffee to follow.

This is paradise.

It's heaven on earth.

Last week on Wednesday I had one last night in Bangkok, so I headed over to Soi Cowboy. After careening around several bars I ended up in Deja Vu (I think). ATMs should not have any wire transfer fees. Your credit card in the US normally charges a 1% foreign transaction fee and, depending on the card, sometimes a dollar or two ATM fee. I have used them for years in Thailand and find them the best way to get Thai Baht.

Backbob, the worst place to exchange money IS at the airport. You should always get it better outside. I usually use Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) money changers. There are a few on Suk (odd Soi side).

WT, you need to change your bank if they are charging you $15 per transaction. My bank doesn't charge any, neither does SCB.

RA, I really haven't found airport cheaper or same as outside, in my last 20 plus visits. You could be right though as you know the scene better.

I use a British building society for my banking requirements, called Nationwide, and they have a zero charge for cash withdrawals worldwide and they use exactly the same exchange rate as can be found on xe.com. Not even a hidden charge. Works for me.
Otherwise i just exchange at the airport, its easier than finding somewhere later and i wouldn't want to spend half a day trying to find the best rate only to save a few quid. JMHO.

I was iin Nana area and there were a few girls with a lot of tattoos and some with piecings. I would look there. I did see a very pretty, slim girl. I was very attracted to her however I passed due to the amount of tattoos and piecings she had on her body. Just not my thing.

Then you haven't been to BKK before... and if you spend several hours a day on the "board" what does that say about your "life" in general?

Answers:

(1) it's harder to find a girl without tatoos than to find one with.
(2) piercings are everywhere, and some punk style girls also. But why in the hell anyone would want one is beyone me.
(3) if you want a 4/5 star hotel you are going to spend $$$. That's just the way it works. There are plenty of clean, comfortable, safe hotels in the Sukhumvit area. Majestic has been mentioned and that is a good choice. Check the BKK Hotel tread for more information.
(4) You get more bang for your buck in Pattaya, but in my opinion, Pattaya is a sewer. But some people like sewers...

Bro, if you like tatoo gals, then I suggest taking the 2.5hr /113baht bus ride to pattaya. There are alot more gals there with piercing and tatoos than in BKK. I always head over there myself when I visit BKK. And if you like it rough and tatoo, then Soi 6 in Pattaya (between Beach Rd and 2nd Road) is your deal.

There is a dichotomy in you statement: I am staying at the J.W. Marriott and looking for good quality girls at the Bier Garten. One rarely finds good quality girls at the Bier Garten. For that you have to go to one of the night clubs such as the basement of the Siam Novotel or Spaso's.

Thats unfortunate, but it does/can happen. I would think that it has more to do with the Japanese clientele that frequent the Rainbow bars than anything else.
I have observed many Indian appearing nationals frequent other bars in nana, and have also seen them in Soi Cowboy, (between soi 21 & 23) so i'd try Soi Cowboy, and if your not too embarrassed by the way you were treated, i'd give some other bars in nana another go.
I would also try some bar beers, soi 7/1, soi 22, they don't have door staff and i would be surprised if you were turned away.

You need to relax and have a carefree attitude. Yes, some places will not let you enter (it has happened to me once in Pattaya) so who gives a shit. And BTW go-go girls are not all that they are cracked up to be. In general, high prices and mediocre to lousy lay.

If you really want to have a good time, don't hunt for stunners. Average to decent looking girls will give you a much better quality time (treat them with respect as if they were really your GF). As Meaty said, try the Beergarden Soi 7, Soi Cowboy and Thermae. There are some real good looking ones in Thermae, due to the influx of Japanese. At closing time there are quite a few left who did not get a 123 client.

And finally, meet my friend Giotto at the Livingstone's on Soi 33. There are some great girls over there, including the pesky one. The price a bit high, but good quality.

Desi - welcome to the ways of the Land of Smiles. They can discriminate with a smile on their face! Couple of years ago, I too was refused entry into Rainbow (the one of ground floor) because of my skin color (same as you) with the "members only" line. Since then I have never patronized NEP go go bars. But I wanted to test this bullshit - so I went back to the same bar with some white folks (fellow Americans) and I was let in!!

Telling them you're American won't help because Thai's have a strange idea of what Americans are supposed look like. Many times, when I tell WGs that I am American, they will say "but you are so dark." LOL

I agree with what Duni said - there are so many other choices in BKK, so don't let the bastards spoil your vacation. You can find some good ones in Beer Garden and Gullivers (and you don't have to pay the barfine). Even in those places, you'll see that some girls won't go with Indians and other "colored" people. That's just the way it is in Thailand.

In a word, no. In Thailand, there are bars, clubs, etc. that use race or ethnicity to decide who will be admitted. There are plenty of places where Western farangs aren't welcome, such as the Japanese and Korean clubs as well as some places on Soi 3.

But if they don't want me as a customer, I don't want to be one. Why would I want to go into a place where I'm not welcome and more or less guaranteed not to have a good time.

There are plenty of other places in BKK. Just find one where you are welcome.

Although this is one of my first posts, I have been reading this excelent guide for a very long time now. I travel to Asia 4-6 times a year for work and most of them I end up in Bangkok. This trip I decided that I needed to devote a bit more time to mongering and a little less to do actual work, so following is the report on how I have spent my free time during the last few days.

I apologize for any mistakes in writing, I must note that English is not my mother language so I will try my best.

Got to Bkk on Wednesday July 19th, way to late to do anything interesting. Next day finished work early and ended up at Copacabana. I had been to Poseidon and Nataree before, but not Copacabana and I wanted to see their price/quality ratio. To my surprise, there were few girls in teh fish bowl on the first floor; mamasan recomended to see girls on second floor. Didnt see anything I liked therefore came down to first floor again. I was having trouble deciding so asked mamasan for opinion. She said girl #210 would be a good deal; although I try to make up my own mind, this time I dedcided to listen to her advise. The girl (sorry, forgot the name... I guess her number is easier to remember for any interested monger anyway) ended up being an outstanding experience. It was 2000B, plus 200B for mamasan and 800B tip for the girl... Overall 3000B for 2hrs of MAGNIFICENT GFE experience. I understand (and respect) that some might consider this too much, but I really think it was worth it considering the experience that I had and the quality of the place-girl.

Since that left me all drained and it was now very late, I decided to call it a day. Next day was friday. Managed to finish work early and decided to try Eden again. Saw one of my favorites (Ann) as soon as I came in and asked her to choose a girl on the left. She did and off we went to the usual Eden experience that has been desciribed here many, many times. One special thing to note is that the new rooms are much, much better than the old crappy ones. Another great advantage is that you dont have to go outside anymore (I cant remember how many times I had to do this walk behind Eden to the nearby hotel in the midst of a Thundershower!). Another thing was the time in which I have seen the largest number of girls at Eden... I asked and they said "low season" (now I need someone to explain why my **** hotel is charging me high season rates!)

At night I decided to try CM2. Since I had never been to CM2 (despite having stayed at Novotel before), this was a new experience for me. Arrived at around 11pm and inmediately saw many nice ladies... some Thai and the usual Russians that had been described here in the past. I found a girl from Kazakhastan (sp?) that was as good looking as they come. We ended up in her place, which was about 5 minute drive from CM2. The nicest looking girl I have had in the last few years, but the coldest and most boring sessiong I had in a few years too... overall, very poor value for money... once again proving correct the statement of inverse proportionality of looks vs quality of service. If this is good for someone, my own PERSONAL advise is: when in Thailand, stick with Thais. It was a waste of my time (and money), although I was able to realize that most of the Russian (or Eastern European) girls at CM2 know each other and are like a small mafia in that place. I am sorry for not remembering the girl's name, but it wouldnt make any sense either as the whole experience was crap. Again, I would stay away from them in the future.

I can check that out for you. I just had a beer with the owner of CK Sports Bar two days ago.

But - the picture does not really fit. CKs opened 3 - 4 months ago. That bar changed ownership 3 times during the last year. It was Richmond first, then an Irish guy took over and named it Shamrocks, and now it is CKs sports bar.

Some of the girls which worked in Richmond before work in Livingstone's now.

If you want to clarify this issues we better do that in PMs. I can anyway go over there and ask for a girl named Karn.

What about honesty and trust? I beleive she is in her village, recuperating from her heart surgery. She must have been in bad shape to need it at such a young age. And as soon as she is strong enough, she will finally be able to go off dialysis, and have her much needed kidney transplant.

I'm guessing that the reason she is gone is that she was working there as the cashier, and it's just a hunch, but this sweet unfortunate thing seems exactly the type who might have been skimming from the till.

Oh, and 1Ball, I think you are wrong about her regaining her strength from her heart surgery before going off dialysis and having her Kidney transplant. I believe that the most important step for her next surgery will be to find another round-eyed benefactor.
