I would tend to agree that 2000 to 3000 is way on the high end for Pattaya and that is a price more so if you were in Bangkok rather in Pattaya. I could take two girls LT from a beer bar pay them and the bar fine for less then 3000 bahts. That's just my experience on my trips over the past three years visiting Thailand.Dude! What do think I mean? Girl+barfine+drinks+drinks at other bars before you finally find the girl you want=2000-3000 baht.

I took my first trip to Pattaya earlier this year. I’ve been to Bangkok a couple of times but really wanted to know what pattaya was like, especially after reading the posts on this and other forum exhaustively!
Too much time has past since my holiday to do a day by day account, so these are the mixed ramblings of a Pattaya newbie. Old hands will cringe at my mistakes but hopefully they will help others avoid them!
I stayed at LK Metropole, recommended on here. I was in a standard room. I wanted a suite but they’d all gone. But it was a pretty good place to stay and very gf. Only negative was that it's a bit far from walking street, especially if you don't like walking much in the heat, but the moto taxis from outside the hotel were a great way to get around.
Being so close, Rockhouse became my regular hangout. I was made to feel welcome there and the atmosphere was very relaxed. I bf’d a girl from there, the cashier – not there now, on my second night in town. She is bright and good company although not brilliant in the sack. Took her a couple of times and had lunch with her one day too. Drinking not part of the cost? I think not.
It's really quite simple. Don't drink, and don't frequent venues that require you to drink. I have never been to ANY place, anywhere in Pattaya where I could not order a soft drink for less than 100 baht, and drink it for as long as it took me to decide which lady I would go with. But the fact is, I rarely do it now, because I have found that freelancers are better than the go go girls and beer bar girls.
Of course, if you're an alcoholic, not drinking could be difficult for you.
And no, going LT with bar girls who live at the bars is what YOU'RE talking about, not what WE'RE talking about. In my experience, freelancers generally provide better service than bar girls. Be it ST, or LT. I generally pay the freelancers 1200-1500 for LT in Pattaya.

I read this forum since about some years. And this discussion recurs like the summer-time, raining-time and winter-time. And as long as this world circulates, there will be no end of this discussion.
A guy with a low budget can never pick up a high class girl (as I read with great interest it was 15.000 Baht a night) and can never dine in PIC Kitchen or Sugar Hut. And the right choice of a good bottle of wine will ever be a secret for him.

And for all the others, who can not decide, whether they belong to the one or to the other group of guys – look at the photo. If you are able to do that, you can save a lot of money – for a good bottle of wine or a high class girl.

OK, where do I fit? I have a 1200 bottle wine cellar with an emphasis on top tier Burgundies (as well as a fair selection of Bordeaux, California Cabs, Aussie, California and French Rhone varietals). To me, an "inexpensive good value" wine is a $25-30 - in a store - bottle that's as good as most triple digit bottles, and most $10-$15 wine is at best simple and boring, at worst, undrinkable swill - although I know the handful of places where I can find a $15 bottle that's as good as most $30-40 bottles (Say, a Tempranillo from Penedes, or a Malbec from the Maipo valley). BTW, fine wine is the ONLY alcohol I drink, and I almost never drink anything when I'm in LOS.
And as for ladies, I tend to like freelancers for 1000 baht in BKK, and 500-600 baht in Patts - not because they are cheap, but because in addition to being cheap, I find that they tend to have far superior attitudes than the 3000 baht as well as the 10000 baht ladies.
So where does your classification place me?

I didn't make out that it was widespread at all. I said a faulty understanding of the barfine system among inexperienced visitors to Pattaya was one of the factors why barowners raise prices on BFs during high season. Over Xmas and New Year's, a lot of young guys who've never been to LOS before and who haven't done much mongering visit Pattaya for the first time. Among some of them, there are individuals who believe the BF also covers the cost of the girl's services. When that happens, there's a lot of problem for the girl, the customer and the bar. A high bar fine tends to discourage that kind of punter, just as it discourages the punters who think they can charm the girl into sex without cash compensation.
It's not a widespread problem, but it's not rare, either.

No special place I know of that has a better chance then another for a three-some in Pattaya. This heart melting seafood place is located by Beach Road in Jomtien. One of our Thail girs knows the place who drove us there. Table settings by the sea, can catch some great view after the sundown. Seafood was great, price are relatively cheaper than Pattaya's.

Stad, Not sure where you are coming from to go to Jomtien, but as noted you should not have a problem catch a bus to Jomtien.
The seafood place you refer too, is it at the other end of Jomtien, where there are no beach chairs and embrallas, seem like the road is somewhat under construction and across the seafood place is a viewing wall? Is there a large dirt parking lot on the side of the place and the place has small and larg wooden tables? Some of waiters are ladyboys in mens clothing? If so, for example if you are coming from maybe the Big C, Central Pattaya, depending on the size of your party somewhere around 110 baht to 150 baht. first of all, unlike most bars and gogos around Pattaya, Soi 6 is more or less a short-time place which also provides rooms upstairs. It's also cheap, the barfine of approx. 300 baht does include the room, actually most girls live in these rooms, asking for 500-700 for a session.

In Secrets, as well as many other establishments, the girls with the red lanyards (cords around their necks to which their name badges are attached) cannot be barfined. That is correct. But this is an Airport for domestic flights. I only know, that some Russian aircrafts are allowed to land there. All other international flights end at Bangkok Airport.
And for you it seems to be more comfortable to take a taxi in Bangkok and go to Pattaya then take a domestic flight from Bangkok to U-Tapao and then drive back one hour to Pattaya.

The airport you fly into is Bangkok (BKK), then about a two-hour trip by taxi/bus to Pattaya. There is an airport closer to Pattaya called U-Tapao (UTP), but don't think about it in terms of flights from Canada. U-Tapao is used mainly for domestic flights, but there are some international charter flights that land there during high season.
Unless you can get to London at a hugely discounted rate (or for nothing) it won't be cheaper to fly via London. Check prices for EVA airlines to BKK out of Vancouver. Also, with the Canadian dollar as strong as it is, look at prices for the non-stop Thai Airways flight between JFK and BKK. That is the quickest way to get to Thailand from Toronto (via New York).

This travel report refers to both of my visits to the LOS last year (Jun-Jul 07 and Nov-Dec 07).
Beach Road Heaps of chicks, some great bargains but many dodgy chicks /LB. I had heard some stories about the authorities trying to clean the Beach Rd from working girls, however this wasn’t too apparent when I was there.

Food if you mix western and local should average not over 400 baht a day for 6 meals.Hotel reasonably good, with hot water and aircon 600 baht near Walking Street.Girl can be as low as 400bast a pop in beach road to how much you want to give.
I should also be in Pattaya latter half of February this year and probably April and again in June.

I think it all depends on who you are and what sort of girls you like to spend your money on. The price you pay has always been a touchy subject.
There being three general categories.
Cheap. The infamous cheap charlie.
You could get a room somewhere past second road for 400bht, possibly less.
You could eat thai food, and take girls from beach road. Possibly sleeping eating and shagging for 1000. 1500bht a day.
Medium. Stay somewhere like the Flipper lodge on soi 7 and 8. Eat at resturants drink in the beer bars occassional visit to Gogos. Approx 5000bht
Top range. Well the sky is the limit. The more money you have the more there is to spend it on really.
Places like Thailand are cheap in comparison to the same what we get back home. But it just allows you to spend the same or more without some discipline.

Yes the roof garden inn is excellent. Admittedly it sucks getting into pattaya sometimes with a backlog of traffic. But the rooms are first rate and the staff are excellent!

You should seriously consider staying somewhere more central. The roofgardeninn to me is "out in the sticks". I stayed in Jomtien for 6 months and the worse part was all of the travelling in and out of Pattaya on the Baht buses.
Everything you need is in Pattaya, so stay somewhere central like Soi 13 (eg Whitehouse condotel for 1500B high season, or one of the Sawasdee Hotels(Soi 10 or 11) for 500B to 900B depending on which one it is).
By the way the 700B quoted by the roofgarden inn is a low season rate. Low season starts 1 March, so you will be paying more than that for a visit in February.

If you are coming for the first time or coming for a short trip what they are saying is Jomtien is further south of Pattaya. Although the prices are somewhat higher and does have action in the area the location is more for relaxing. From the main action, by baht bus it could take you 15 minutes to 30 minutes depending on the traffic.
Check the web and get a map and of Pattaya. One of the main action is Walking Street and that is already South of Pattaya and Jomtien is South of Walking Street. First timers as they say stay closer to the action!

When I stayed at Roof Garden I could get to walking street in less than 30 minutes by walking. A baht bus hardly took anytime at all. I could be remembering wrong, but I dont think so. Roof Garden was a great place for a first timer to stay.

Hi Not enough time to catch a flight if you leave at 0600hrs from Pattaya. You normally have to check in at least 2 hours before departure sometimes 3 hours. Taxi will take about 90 minutes to the new aiport and more to the old one.

Just spent 3 days in Pattaya. First of all, there's a bar on Beach Road between Soi 7 and Soi 8 called We Are The World - they offer bottled beer (Singha and Chang) for 30 baht until about 10pm.
Welkom Inn - I can't say enough good things about this place. Afternoon short time bar, 1000 baht gets you laid. I've taken a few of the ladies there (many are stunners) and have always had a good time. Took one of the barmaids this time and she was great. Draft Heineken is 50 baht - can't beat it.
Walking Street - Really crowded these days. I would never barfine any of the girls here during the high season - most are asking for at least 2000 baht for LT. A lot less than BKK, but still too much (yeah, I'm cheap. But I live here!). Went into Heaven Above - the place has gone downhill. The showgirls just aren't what they used to be. Same can be said about Happy - half of the showgirls have baby scars on their stomachs! Lots of bored looks on their faces as well. Beach is good, and Windmill has really improved - lots of friendly girls in those places who will talk to you for a bit and not immediately ask for a drink.
Soi 6 - King Kong is always good for a laugh. Went in there and as usual there's some British bloke on the couch getting his knob sucked. Talked to a girl aptly named "King" who is very nice. "Estonian man dies following attack on Walking Street
A disturbing incident occurred on Walking Street in the early hours of Sunday Morning which was initially dealt with by the Tourist Police based on the street. Three men from Estonia made a complaint at the Tourist Police Mobile Unit regarding a confrontation with three Thai Men in Soi 15. It is thought the men were being ushered into a Show Bar but decided at the last minute that they did not want to go. The Thai men became angry and a fight ensued. The men were told to make their way to Pattaya Police Station to make a report, however they decided to take matters into their own hands and went back to confront the Thai men. It is thought that more than 15 men set-upon the three Estonian Men. One managed to run away, a second was hit over the head with a steal pole and a third man was stabbed in the leg with a broken bottle. A major artery in his leg was severed and he was rushed to Hospital. Later on Sunday he died from the injury according to medical staff at the Pattaya Memorial Hospital. The incident, which is now a murder investigation, occurred only meters away from the Tourist Police Unit and is now being investigated by Pattaya Police and the Tourist Police as the hunt for the attackers continues. We understand that as of Monday Afternoon, no arrests had been made in connection with the attack."

Still high season. Plenty of hotel space in Pattaya. If you want a specific popular hotel then reserve in advance. You need to read this forum to skip hotels which charge joiner fees.

Apparently, blatantly criminal activity by Thai locals is acceptable, but agitatedly naiive behaviour by farang newbies is som nam na. I genuinely hope that those creepy expats and similar don't become victims. Last year a farang walking with his Thai girlfriend was almost beaten to death after he accidentally splashed some rain water on a group of Thais. Police found them - these guys were food vendors by day. They were forced to go to the hospital to apologize (probably because the victim was a respected member of a community, helping the poor). I wonder if they got any jail time for this. I just don't see any other motives for such behavior, other than hatred. We need to know the exact name of the bar where the Estonians were originally assaulted.

Secrets is actually a better hotel, but they don't have the multi-mirrored booms and boom-boom chairs etc. If you stay in the "better rooms" (suites, etc) in Penthouse you might have a better room, but try to stay up on the upper floors if you have an outside room or the noise will prevent a lot of sleep (or take ear plugs)

i had booked mr t taxi, and sure enough the driver was there. we travelled in a late model small european type car, which was fine. the driver took me to a small service area about 45 minutes out from the airport where i had breakfast, and then on to pattaya. oh, i had forgotten how completely fucked up and mad road users are here, but we got there in one peace.
we found the rockhouse. i was really surprised on the way in that the whole area was so busy, and alive. it looked as though everything a monger or even tourist could want was in a short stagger.
anyway, i rocked up to the rockhouse where i was met by joy, the daytime cashier. i don't think we got off on a particularly good footing because i didn't realise i had to pay for my stay upfront, plus a deposit, so i had to go and get some cash from the atm, which is a good 2 minutes walk away.
returning, i went to my room, number 3 at the very top of the building. unfortunately it smelt quite fushty, like of stale smoke, but i just wanted to get my head down for a few hours and think about that afterwards. when i threw back the quilt, i realised that it and the sheets had not been changed and smelt of smoke and people, so it was back downstairs to see joy to register my complaint. i think we established that the last guest had only just booked out and the cleaner wouldn't be there until 3pm, so that was sleeping out. so, what do you do when you can't have a kip (well apart from the obvious in pattaya)? yeah, drink, or should i say continue drinking (started before i left home and continued on the plane). so it was me and joy. ting tong joy is what i call her. i've spent 2 days 'with her' during the daytime hours, drinking and buying her drinks, and trying to understand her and the goings on around the place. she is very helpful- offers advice on where to go, got me a sim card and a top-up, and let me sit there and drink [CodeWord140] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord140) and tallk shit. anyway, after about 12 drinks (this is between 1030 and 1430 so i am not an alcoholic) i decided i'd better go for a wander to see what is around the place, and the answer is everything. there's enough bars on the metro alone for a bar crawl, places to eat galore (bob's bbq and grill is next door), and even a gogo (champagne) about 20 metres away.

Like others have said - the major problem with Penthouse is the "visitors" - the 6 legged ones (that and the possible musty odor and perhaps a bit of mold.) I survive pretty much exclusively on the ATM, but usually keep a stash of dollars/pounds/euros in case the network goes down or something - never had to dip into said cash though.
I usually pull cash out in 10k bundles, and I read a great idea the other day about how to make sure the banks don't double charge you for the same transaction (just in case). Pull out 10k the first time, then 10k + 100 baht the second time, then +200 baht the third time and it'll be obvious on your statement if something is amiss.
Apart from that, you are pretty safe using the ATM day or night - but, obviously use your judgement. Pattaya will be a lot safer than TJ, and, for the visitor at least, the chances of being violently robbed are orders of magnitude lower than they are likely to be back wherever you come from (US/Europe etc).
I tend to keep 1000s in one pocket, and the rest in another. The thousands pocket is then area verboten if you are in an area with wandering hands....

I do everything through the ATM'S, but I usually will have around $500.00 USD, in cash with me just for insurance. This is strictly for when I return home to the U.S. and stopovers at other countries airport. I use a Debit/Credit card to withdraw money from my checking account and a backup Credit Card that links me also to my Checking in case I lose the Debit card. Each card has different Pin numbers. I also carry another Credit Card outside of my main bank.
I mainly use Bangkok Bank and Siam Commercial ATM'S, I believe they are Blue and Yellow and are located usually in the shopping centers like Big C, but are also located outside most 7/11'S. I trust them because they usually are well stock with cash and always have paper receipts! Exchange rates are good and remember most like be charged a conversion percentage. For example if you take 10,000 baht from a ATM, in USD it will show on your statement now $304.00 and your bank will charge you $3.04 for the conversion! Remember also if you bank is in the U.S. like mines I can take around 17,000 baht which is around $500.00 within a 24 hr period. The exchange rate being near 33 to 1?

In the USA, CC and ATM are fairly close in the sense the only difference is really what type of rewards or cash back on ATM fee they may charge on the purchase side. On the finance side is really the credit limit and APR.
When you use your ATM or Credit card internationally there is vastly different treatment among cards. For instance on the credit card side I only use Captial One VISA card because there is zero foreign exchange fees added. I think Wells Fargo adds 5 percent to foreign exchange. Most CC like the onces from Chase bank will add 2 percent. On the ATM card I use various E*TRADE financial card because there is never any ATM fees and no extra 1 percent fee added.
Also I have at least two ATM cards associated with different accounts. One I carry with me and the other is back in the room safe as back-up in case I loose it or it's stolen or stops working because the VISA fraud people think something gone wrong. Having two ATMs is less risky than transporting cash around. If you are traveling to Thailand phone your bank to tell them that withdrawals from Thailand are expected.

I had a Capital One Visa, a little over a year ago and closed it because they the CC, interest was too high. The one time I used it they didn't say anything about the coversion but they called it something else, but it was nearly 5% for the usage. Account Closed!
My backup is Chase Bank Visa, 6.9%, never have used this account! Just a back up!
There is a Checking Account being offered with Charles Schwab, right now 4 % interest with no balance requirement. A friend that just retired from them told me about it that she heard from her co-worker it didn't charge you for ATM fee's domestic or internation. Hard to believe right. She just came back from a vacation in Asia. She got a Conversion charge from the ATM! but you can use any ATM, domestic Free!

I am not using the CCs to carry a credit balance. Since Capital One advertises so much on TV their rates on outstanding balances must be fairly high. I only use the Capital One card for foreign purchases when I have to. I never carry a balance. The ATM cards I use never charge a fee and the exchange rate is very close the interbank rate. In Thailand the ATM rate was better than the best cash exchange rate that I could find. In Europe the ATM rate is very close to interbank rate and I've never found a rate even close to the ATM exchange rate. In the past 4 years, I've never converted cash from USD to Euros at a bank or exchange booth.
The last time I used a Chase card I figured I was charged at least a 2 percent exchange fee. That was in Bangkok where I put my Capital One card in my rollway and the bell hop had already taken it to the room. The front desk wanted me to pay for the room upfront so I just gave them my Chase bank card. The cost was around 2500 Bhat and I wasn't there to make a fuss.
The one scam people should be aware is that local travel agents in Thailand will attempt to convert the local currency in Bhat to USD at their poor exchange rate and bill the cost in USD. Always insist that the reservation to be billed in Bhat to you US based credit card.
I just used a Max-rate checking ATM card from E*TRADE that pays 3.3% >$5k with no ATM fee on two different ATMs I used in Europe. They say the charge a conversion fee of 1 percent but I can hardly tell.

I was supposed to be in Pattaya this week but have had to postpone my trip. My main concern is racism towards Indians. – I am a British born Indian and pretty well of. My mate came back from Salvador Brazil and told me the women love colored ppl. It's unfortunate that I had to find it out myself without having read about it as part of my preparation. I did spend a considerable amount of time online (not on this site unfortunately), researching and discussing with people and I was shocked to see what was in store for me. I work in California, am originally from India and had decided to take a stop in Thailand for entertainment purposes. Because I had planned in advance I did end up spending about 4 weeks in total in Bangkok and Pattaya, so my experience is confirmed and reconfirmed.
Hatred for Indian community comes naturally to Thais. It's like they were born with it and like it's a religious doctrine to hate Indians. No debate, no questions, period - end of story.
It wasn't in my mind at all to expect this. I thought as a P4P destination, it's money that counts. But no, it's the natural instinct of filthy little bastards to stop Indian people right at the gate at go go bars. Those vermins can't speak a word of English but they no how to say no to Indians. And they know in their minds that it is not open to discussion. The cunts sitting at the beer bars have a natural instinct to turn their heads away as soon as they see an Indian soul approaching them. If however, you do manage to get in front of them, you will be reluctantly served by the worst looking girls. Every good looking girl that you buy drinks for, spend money on, try to entertain, will turn out to be on her period (haf men - or whatever the fuck they say in Thai).
Unbelievable. I could have turned around the lives of a few of them. All they had to was ask. All they had to do was to be a good a ****, work their charm. Money was their for the taking but they were not interested. They were on their periods or otherwise showing attitude.
I did spend considerable amount of money though. I didn't mind it at all. I was there to spend money. I only wanted to get my money's worth. But I was being made to spend for the wrong reason. I had to spend just to show that I had money. Then I would have to spend more to get the girl. Every day every outing was a challenge. I was guilty until proven innocent. This situation is beyond repair. It is fucked beyond recognition. The other alternative was to change two airline tickets and incur about $600 in damages. I figured I might just as well continue with the embarrassment and fuck a few more of them for a week. So I stayed.
To top it, I am one of the more aggressive kind of Indians. At one of the go gos around soi 7 I shred a 1000 bath bill into pieces. The little fucks manning the entrance were shocked. I went there the next day and did it again. But they were younger folks, only murmured. I did the same again AGAIN but this time at a different go go few steps away on the Beach road. They called out their gangsta looking boss from inside. Pretty entertaining scene was enacted. I was secretly hoping for a fist fight but it wasn't to be - for the benefit of all I must say. Policemen came. I walked with them to the headquarters two blocks away. There I explained the situation that I was a regular at that place few weeks ago and that these are new folks and they were stopping me from seeing my lady.
"You have lady?", that part he understood. "Yes, and I was there to give money to the lady and these people were stopping me". That struck a chord with him and off I went. Back to the same go go of course. Just to let them know I am also not an easy bastard. Mamasan and all the service girls were "soli soli" but how the fuck does it matter to me anymore. Thailand is fucked in my mind.
I was able to establish myself at super baby (or the one across, I don't remember exactly, they're both almost the same). 3000 baht take out but that's a flat price at least - priceless. Much better than patronizing random beer bar ladies while gambling on the prospects. I am not a gambler.
After the incident with cops I cut my Pattaya visit short and went back to Bangkok. Stayed at Novotel where I had heard you get "students" in their club. Ventured into the club at night, it was an all out **** scene. Sluts standing by themselves displaying their wares, sluts in pairs talking, Russian sluts sitting in the corner in a group seated separately. Decided to offer a drink to one not so slutty looking Thai one. She wanted 4000 baht for ST. I politely declined without negotiating. That's how much the imported talent from China makes in California. And that too by providing a delightful level of service. I didn't travel this distance to spend California price for a dead fish fuck. I ended up spending 10,000 on a Russian that night. Picked her up from Rama hotel close to Nana plaza. Now THAT'S what I can justify myself spending. If I were to pork a Russian in California for a night, it would cost me upwards of a $1000 bucks. It was a no brainer. Called a Thai escort one day. 7,500 for 24 hours. Looked like a steal. It was on my last day in Bangkok. I wanted to see something. So I took her out with me - boat ride, snake park, Chinese dinner, Chinatown, a lazy fuck and then sleep. I told her I needed a fuck in the morning. She said yes but forgot about it the next morning. I had paid her 8,000 in advance previous night just to make her feel comfortable. In the morning I asked for my extra 500 back without telling her why. She returned it without asking why. 500 baht - nothing for me and a lot for a poor lady, but she had earned the right to lose that extra money. I only obliged.
Other time spent a few nights at soi Cowboy and several massage parlors. Did not even think about Nana plaza. Overall, managed to spend money and get laid, but didn't enjoy and they sure as hell didn't enjoy it either.
I am not too surprised by their attitude. There is certain element in Indian personality that doesn't lend itself to being liked easily. That part I always knew. Hell even Indian people don't like Indians, just go to India to see. They are all fighting. But what I was completely aghast to find was why should it be part of P4P? I guess it has to do with your background, your education, your bringing up, your friend circle, the stories doing rounds, the precedents, etc.
At this point I am extremely pissed at Thailand. So much so that I would like to bring harm to Thailand, their establishments in USA, or any Thai bloke or girl in general who happens to cross my walk of life.

The one scam people should be aware is that local travel agents in Thailand will attempt to convert the local currency in Bhat to USD at their poor exchange rate and bill the cost in USD. Always insist that the reservation to be billed in Bhat to you US based credit card.
The flip side of this scam is if a Thai agency tries to quote you a U.S. rate, already calculated at a bad FX rate, and then convert it back to Baht, at an equally bad FX rate - thus hitting you for a bad rate TWICE - and if you were to then pay with a CC, you'd get nailed for THREE conversion fees.

Other persons on this forum of Indian descent have had good experiences here despite the initial prejudice. They apparently have learned how to overcome the problems you faced by being patient and showing a good attitude. Never-the-less, I do sympathize with you.

I survive pretty much exclusively on the ATM, but usually keep a stash of dollars/pounds/euros in case the network goes down or something - never had to dip into said cash though.

Two suggestions.
1. Backup should be Travellers Cheques e.g. AMEX for safety. Even though no intention to use them till emergency hits.
2. I opened a Thai Bank Account with Bangkok Bank Limited. I use internet to xfer large sums in Foreign Currency to my Thai Account and then pull it from ATM gradually. Make sure conversion occurs at Thai end so not to get ripped off. My own Country would definitely rip me off if asked them to send in Thai Baht.
I do not think Thai's totally discriminate people who look Arab or Indian.
I look Arab and I have had a Thai gf for a long time. I have gone everywhere with her and people were always friendly.
yes, couple of times I went to a Go-Go bar in Pattaya i was refused entry. They said the club is full, in other words you are not welcome. I take it all with a grain of salt and i am non-confrontational. Travelling all over the world I have learned to be friendly and not draw attention to myself.
Well, the Indians must have done something for Thais to form an opinion.
But if you are reasonably well dressed, smell good act as a gentleman I think you should not have any problem.
Acting crazy and insulting the culture when you are a visitor is unwarranted in any country.

Something off topic.Not indian, but worked in indian restaurant back in student years. They never tip,they never happy. As soon as your remind about the tips,they stop understand english. So dear indian friend-tnink about.

I guess u went to the champagne go-go?...When I was in Pattaya and Bkk-I noticed quite a few indians having a good time. While I dont discount the fact that some idiot girl may have turned up her nose or some mgr did discriminate, there are over 3k bars in Pattaya..and perhaps 100K hookers working. If a bar or a hooker is acting up--go to the next one.
When I was there, we went to club boesche(sp?) and stood at the door deciding...the dude at the door motioned us to leave...we simply left and went to another bar that welcomed us

Like you I'm in my first trip. I have spend 8 nights at BKK.
As a newbie like me, I suggest you to stat at Livingstone's Lodge. Place feels more like a home. With a great bar and the most friendly staff in whole BKK. Even drinking with the owner and the other guests is more fun than going out chasing girls. It is located in the center of night life. The sky train can take you anywhere (shopping & entertainment) with in 5 to 10 minutes. You can even walk most places.
As for places to go I have tried the Rainbow 4 gogo at Nana. No: 158 & 128 was young and hot looking sisters and they get along well.
There are also very beautifull girls at Livingstones. But I never tried. I guess I'm too shy for BKK. Barfining a girl from my hotel and seeing her again and ignoring her was to hard for me.
Like you I had built an itinerary for each day. But never stick with it. Go with the flow. Just note the places to avoid. Be sure to try Thermae and Spice Club. There are many girls for all tastes.

Frequent visitor's to Thailand have heard the girls complain about Indians or Indian looking people. My response to Bayareapundit in no way condones racism. I was critical of his behavior and attitude. I do sympathize with persons of color that have a hard time in LOS.
During a Korea trip a few years ago, I visited one of their red lights districts. It consists of about three streets with the girls standing in windows similar to Amsterdam. The main street has gorgeous girls and the back street girls are not as pretty. A white guy will never be serviced by a main street hottie. Whites will only be serviced by girls on the side streets. It's prejudice and it sucks.
Thailand is not alone in being racist and racism can be directed at anyone, not just people of color.

I am an African-American, black as night and I have worked with Indians guys in Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and the UAE. They are not the friendliest people in the world bruh. In their country its the same thing with the light skin more widely accepted. Also try talking with an Indian lady in front of those guys whether she is a ***** or not most of them get offended royally.
As for Thailand I have had a few bar girls turn their nose up at me. Then their are some who are begging hugging jumping on my back to go home with me. I also experienced the same in PI where I live. I vote we drop this subject for now.......but the above really does look like a very intelligent analysis of the situation. The whole thing is about self hate and Thai being the center of the world (it's not!). It's also a lot of crap that Thais who have been to an American/western university somehow should be expected to escape from this situation. They go to a university in the west.....stay with mostly Thai people in their social group, want to eat only Thai food most of the time and pull the same shit off their soil that they pull on it. They then return to the fatherland at some point....and act the same as when they left (i.e. that "lie" thing they are famous for, men causing termoil in interpersonal relationships with drinking and "hanging" with Thai men, racism, etc.). This is a generalisation of course....but fits the many Thais I have been involved with (male and female on a non-sexual basis) in the west.

M2You can find a lot more info by reading the forum here but I'll try to generally answer your general questions.
1. BKK & Pattaya. KS and Phuket do have some nightlife & a good time can be had but its nothing compared to B & P.
2. I prefer go go girls over freelancers for a variety of reasons. Namely medical checks and if one runs or rips you off you can return to the club and state your case. With a FL you have no recourse for theft and a much higher chance of getting an STD. In BKK just go to Soi Cowboy. In Pattaya go to Walking Street. Names of clubs are not necessary as there are so many in both places. Best to just check them out at your leisure. There are also many good picks at the beer gardens which are cheaper than the go go clubs.
3. In BKK I usually stay at Nana Plaza Hotel or one of the smaller hotels near Nana Plaza on Soi 4. All hotels in this area are girl friendly. Other hotels in other areas often have a join fee which I hate. In Pattaya I stay at one of the places on Soi 13 just off Walking Street. Dynasty Hotel or Sandy Springs Hotel. Both are relatively cheap and are near all the action. Personally I don't bring girls who work at the hotel club I'm staying at unless I'm slumming at the Penthouse which is connected to the Kitten Club next door. This can lead to much drama and some rude comments when you bring a different catch home the next day. With so many to choose from, its not worth the hassle. I'm sure you've heard. Don't shit where you eat.
4. Thais will do any fetish for the right price. It's all about the baht in LOS. Stockings you can get there. Uniform costumes might need to be brought with you. Careful though. A buddy of mine bought a Lady Cop uni from Ebay and somehow lost the keys to the handcuffs. While he was still handcuffed to the bed. LOL. Luckily the girl didn't leave him stranded there but from what I understand it was an embarrassing moment when the hotel handyman was called to cut him loose.

I've been reading these particular news reports for years. The thing that really stands out is that the vast majority of reported crime in Patts is Thai-on-Thai. Even among katoeys, it seems. The crime rates involving farang either as victims or instigators are consistently and astonishingly low given the nature of the vast majority of farangs' presences in this town.

Gentlemans Massage - After reading the 3(?) reports from a recent newcomer all singing the praises of this fine establishment i decided it was somewhere i might try if i remembered....as it turned out they advertise in a free publication in Pattaya, it had a map, and i decided to give it a go. First off don't look for a sign saying Gentlemans Massage....no, that would be too easy, look for the frosted glass entrance, street sign in Thai, and many stickers on the frosted glass saying www.fm.com, the only other sign said Fashion Massage.
Walk in papa is there, there are a few couches a counter on the right and a raised area on the left, the 3 girls i see are sprawles out on the sofa's half asleep. They make no effort to move after i enter, papa sits me down and explains the menu, i don't remember much of it to be honest.
30 minute Hand Relief - 750 Baht (or 950, not sure now)
60 minute massage, HJ and BJ - 1,500

Anyway, i pick the 60 minute HJ and BJ, pap explains that with my package, the second girl is half price....hmmm i had to think about it, but i was so tired from the heavy night before, i didn't want to be working, i wanted to be enjoying so i opted out. For someone living here, you remain incredibly ignorant of things. The holiday in question was Makka Buchha Day and was only on Thursday. The reason that booze was banned and many places were closed over the weekend had nothing to do with this holiday, but was because of the Senatorial elections. Banning booze for an election that few Thais care about was universally condemned. But, such is the already apparent stupidity of the new puppet regime.

I travelled to some asia countries the last years and I always felt very save. Specially in Pattaya, there is so much life on the street and if you treat the locals with just a little respect to her culture, than you will have a great time. For me, it is always a perfect comination to stay in both areas. Several days in PTT just for hang around and play with girls, and before leaving to my home I stay 2-3 nights in BKK. Do a little shopping take a soapie and enjoy life. If you like the beach, you maybe should think about a trip to Koh Samet or Koh Chang.

No not at all, I have never had any problems in Pattaya I have found the people to be very nice. I have seen one fight in bangkok between two Lady Boys which was funny and two in Pattaya one between twos Bgs and then other between two farangs but the staff in king seafood were great at sorting it out.

I'm a first time visitor to Pattaya (and Thailand for that matter) and would appreciate some 'localised' advice.
I was walking down Beach Road and spotted a real cutie at the 'Poppy Bar' (almost corner of Soi 7), she seemed to speak English well and at 1000baht LT and 300baht barfine seemed reasonable enough. A couple more G&T's and head to a bar near by hotel; yet more G&T's and hoping this has sufficiently loosened her up. She seems unimpressed by my 800baht pn hotel. The first and most important piece of advice I will give to you or any new comer is to negotiate everything before hand. Tell them what you want and ask them if they will do it and how much everything is going to cost. About 75% of the girls will be truthful with you.
I don’t try to get them to drop their prices from their original quotes since 100% of the fun your going to have is directly related to the girl’s attitude towards you. Thai’s are funny in one way, they fell if they got paid this much the last time then they should always get paid the same every time. And if they don’t get paid the same then they feel cheated. Some girls would rather sit at the bar all night and make nothing than drop their prices even a little, to avoid losing face with the other girls at the bar.
The bar fines for beer bars are 300 for short time and 600 for long time. The girl’s rates are 500 for short time and 1,000 for long time. Long time means they spend the day and night with you and leave in the morning.
As far as taking the girls out to other bars to eat, drink, watch football and have a good time most of them will really appreciate your effort to treat them as a friend you will be reward in many wonderful ways, hopefully. But, be careful, some of these girls really like to drink and get so drunk they are unable to perform the functions we pay them for.

Definitely stay on Soi 8. Only cost 10 B to catch ride down to Walking Street. There are a couple of good hotels right on Soi 8. I usually stay at Sunshine 1200-1600B but cheaper 850B at 2 hotels that run down street in front of Sunshine between Soi 7 and Soi 8. My mind is blank right now and do not have cards with me but one is a British place (Pig and Whistle?) and other is something like AFN. Can not miss if you just take road from front of Sunshine on Soi 8 to Soi 7. If you really need I can look up for you and send.
Soi 7 and 8 are right next to each other. There are several go go bars there. The one next to Beach road on Soi 7 has a jacuzzi show. I always stay at the Flipper House on soi 7 and have never had any problems. The only thing lacking is an in-room safe, but they have safes at the front desk.

May is low season so you can pick and choose rooms, however FLIPPER HOUSE is very popular and often booked-up even in low season, they do have a great, rooftop pool. There are several hotels that are part of the EASTINY chain, also with pools, on soi's 7 & 8 They are clean, well appointed and reasonably priced.
Transportation to Walking St is by an endless chain of "sawngtaows" travelling the loop of Beech Rd./2nd Rd.: ten Baht.
If you want to stay close to Walking Street, The P72 HOTEL is directly across from LUCIFER'S DISCO, has decent rooms in the old wing for B600-800 and deluxe rooms in a brand new wing for B1200-1500. For some reason they don't have a website. Tel: 03 842 9291

One doesn’t have to look back too far & see when the last mugging or robbery went sour.
Not to mention the road accidents, unsafe airlines, bombings, unsanitary food /hygiene, drugging, kidnapping or the odd coup just around the corner.
Thailand may have been perfect 15 years ago but things have changed – Stay alert.

In the end I decided to not bar fine anyone and just picked up girls walking back from working at various bars. I found that some girls would just wanna get barfined. I could never judge whether they just wanted to get bar fined and then it was down hill from then on. I did used to get confrontational but never again, they'll spread loads of shit about you if you upset 'them, this time I'm going to be cool as a cucumber and make it my business to see if I can palm off the most horrible of leaches who pester me for a drink nicely and without telling them to xxxx right off! It's war! Thats why I love the beergarden and thermae and Bangkok, there workers and have there heads screwed on, no money no eat and I kinda respect that. Ok you've got have your wits about you in those places but I had stuff stolen from my bags by the room cleaners at my last hotel in Bangkok so it goes to show it don't matter who the person is theres a chance you could be robbed, the only other time I was robbed was by a bargirl I had barfined and I caught her red handed with money from my wallet hidden underneath her bag on the table in my room, after I had fucked her she had to pick her bag up, I must of disturbed her as I came back from my shower and she didn't have time to bag it, it was the exact same bunch of folded notes I had received in change from the chek bin at her bar. I'd be tempted in that last Nana situation you told, to just cut her loose without paying anything -- she can just walk across the street to her bar and get back onstage, so it's not like she's lost anything. But yes, then there is the social situation and also the fact that you may want to return to that bar later and be able to pick someone up there, not be labeled as the Farang from Hell. Then again, if a girl is that blatant, the other girls must realize she plays the prima donna act, and wouldn't take her too seriously.
I guess the way I'd handle it also would depend on how eager she seemed in the bar. If it seemed like she was aloof and just agreeing to it without any enthusiasm, then I'd cut her some slack because she probably was going along with a deal she wasn't too keen on. I've also had the opposite, a girl who was very seductive before (Angel Disco) return to the hotel to turn into a rudely aloof corpse, making it clear this whole thing was completely tedious to her. (That was back in 2003, and I see she STILL works there. Saw her in Nana parking lot at 2am one night. And I'd seen this same girl there in 2001! It's about 12. Now I'm sleepy and not exactly desiring another go this second, so I say OK but you go now only 2000. She says 3000. I tell her that was if she stayed until 5 o'clock. She then said "no, not 5 o'clock, five HOURS" -- Uh, well, its now just 2 hrs later. So knowing that her ST fee is 2000, I just say OK I pay you 2500, ok? She frowned (!!!!) and agreed. She made some remark about how now she would have to go back and work in the bar again to make enough to pay her tuition fee tomorrow (between the lines: that's my fault). I said, "oh, ok" in a nice way, still friendly in tone. She seemed slightly displeased but still polite-friendly. And then she left. I'm sure she ended up getting her next customer and 'made her tuition'. The compromise felt like the only one that was going to be peaceable on both sides. Any less and she would have been pissed off, any more and I would have been.
Now the problem with a girl like this one is that if it's 10pm and you want LT, she knows she can finish you in less than 2 hrs at 2000baht ST (or in my case, 4 minutes), and then get another customer after you for 2000ST again, or even for 3000-4000 for LT. So it's absolutely not in her economic interest to do LT at 10pm. Of course she has to be pretty sure she can get the next customer if she goes back, and I'd say for this one that would be a pretty safe bet. She looked much more like a Japanese girl than a Thai. So in my situation, after we'd done it the first time, now she was looking at having to stick around my hotel for 4-6 more hours for just 1000 baht more, missing out on lots more money to be made back at her bar. Not going to happen. And I can't really blame her. If that mini-mam hadn't jumped in (forcing a deal on us that was more favorable to me than the girl wanted to give), I might have been able to work out a good deal with her -- for less than LT but longer than ST, which may have worked. Then again, it may have been inevitable that she would have pulled that move after the first go.
A few times I found myself in go go bars that had a waitress or 2 who were hotter than the girls onstage. One was Hollywood Carousel on the top floor of Nana -- there's one tall thin one there who's the hottest girl in the place by a safe distance. What's the deal with those? I mean, I'd think if she was available, she'd be up on stage. It seems like if you work as a waitress, a lot of guys will presume you're not available, so you'd get fewer offers.
In another club at Soi Cowboy called Spice Girls there was another one who caught my eye - and in that club the waitresses wore numbers just like the girls onstage, which kind of gave me the idea they would be availalble.
Yesterday my actual LT girl told me that all bars are closed. I didn't checkt at walking street or soi 2/6/7/8 but around Royal Garden Plaza the most bars were closed, or at least no music played and no alcohol were sold.

Yes all bars are closed due to National Elections, until midnight sunday march 2nd.
They're closed because no alcohol can be served.
But personally, I find this is great because the girls are waiting everywhere for you, including the bars, where they just sit around in the dark waiting for farangs to show up with offers!

Can anyone in Pattaya report on the smoking ban that came into affect on 11th Feb. i have heard that some bars are enforcing it now and other are waiting until the law is to be enforced with fines on june 1st.
I'm looking forward to going back and not having to move around the bar every time someone sparks up!
It works well in the civilized world, I see no reason why it cant work in Thailand!

my information is that smoking (cigarettes, cigars and pipe) isn’t allowed from now in all bars and restaurants. separate rooms for smokers are not allowed. there is a short transitional period until the end of april. from 1st of may you have to pay round about 2000 baht, if they snap you. the owner of the bar has to pay about 20.000 baht. if they control.
i hope, the system works like the traffic control. if you call for a traffic ticket from the police, after they have stopped your car or bike, you pay 500 baht. without ticket it is 200 baht.

Unless the BIB charge more in Pattaya than Bangkok i think you're being overcharged for your ticket ! It's 300 baht for a ticket in Bangkok, you must surrender your driving license, or a photocopy is fine if you have one, they will issue you a ticket, which you can pay at the post office within a certain timeframe, the driving license you despoited is then posted back to your home address after they see the payment has been made. I find it huighly amusing when police stop and tell you it's 500 baht to be on your way, i go for the 300 baht ticket everytime, in most cases the BIB can't be bothered and just give up on anything !

Definitely stay on Soi 8. Only cost 10 B to catch ride down to Walking Street. There are a couple of good hotels right on Soi 8. I usually stay at Sunshine 1200-1600B but cheaper 850B at 2 hotels that run down street in front of Sunshine between Soi 7 and Soi 8. My mind is blank right now and do not have cards with me but one is a British place (Pig and Whistle?) and other is something like AFN. Can not miss if you just take road from front of Sunshine on Soi 8 to Soi 7. If you really need I can look up for you and send.

I really should have included this info in my first response. In the day time Walking Street smells like a sewer. Have been through a number of times in day and just plain disgusting. Most of fun bars closed until later. Cheap food further apart. Better to just visit it at night and get away during the day. At night kind of fun due to all of the lighting. Kind of reminds me of Bourbon St in New Orleans (or what it use to be like before Katrina) in the sense that fun to go to at night to hear music and be part of crowds. Day time lot better off in Soi 8 area. No matter where you stay figure on catching a few rides per day.

Great hotel list! I would like to add Charlie Place, corner of Soi Dianna and Soi Bakaw 900b. Beg to differ but a friend of mine stayed at Opey De Place this Dec/Jan 900b.

Out of curiosity, Why walking street is called walking street..its obvious, that people walk on the walking street..which gives away any secrets it holds :).
Is there anything else on the walking street or people just walk around here and there..
Was there any Discovery like newfoundland or new england or a British expat just walked onto pattaya and said wow..this steet is nice..lets name it walking street or its named after his demise and the bar girls named it after him as the greatest monger of all time.....Mr James Walking :D
The name is tooo simple and does not convene what history walking street hold ;)
It should be re-named as a tribute to all ISG members as Mongers Lane or Buddha's bite or Angels Path Way or something Thai That..:)

I'm deciding whether to stay in Bangkok or Pattaya during my next Thailand visit. Based on all the news reports within the link, Pattaya sounds like a dangerous place and I should probably go to Bangkok instead. Would you all agree?

ie Grenades guns and fists used in a fight but no report on fatalities seems to me that's BS.
Some ways to stay safe or at least prevent the chances of trouble
1. Don't ride motorbikes esp when drunk
2. Don't flash big cash only bring out enough for the night.
3. Don't flash gold or expensive watches
4. Keep to weel lit areas (standard safety precation in any city)
5. Don't walk beachside of Beach Rd late at night.
6. Don't go looking for trouble, or you will find it.
7. Don't get shitfaced falling down drunk you are making a target of yourself.
8. If you decide to ignore No'7 do it within staggering distance of your hotel.
9.Keep cool be nice and pull your head in.
10. If there is any confrontation turn and walk away.
11. use your hotels safety deposit.
I'm sure others would have more ideas but I think you get the picture, so I'll get off my soapbox now.
Just be aware of your surroundings and any situations that may develope near or around you.
Oh yes I nearly forgot don't get involved if it's none of tou business keep out of it.
One more thing have a great time I will and will be there next week

Walking Street,
Might be because during the day, the street is available to vehicles and traffic of all kinds from Beach Road. Then at night it is blocked off and only available for walking foot traffic. There you might have it! WALKING STREET!

Go ahead and stay in grungthep - that's one less to deal with in Pattaya. :)
In all honesty, Pattaya isn't any better or any WORSE than most other places with similar populations. it IS, of course, essentially wall-to-wall available "poo-ying" - with a more "affordable" price structure than grungthep

Glad to hear you guys have been keeping the water warm for me upon my return. Just a quick question to those converting their weary dollar to baht - how are the in-country exchange rates treating you? We're looking at 29 to 31 baht on the dollar for exchange in the states. Is it any better in the LOS? We need every baht we can get.

As a Pattaya first-timer, I'm trying to narrow down my hotel options with the following criteria:
1. Around 1, 000 baht/day
2. In-room safe (preferred, but not a must)
3. Shower is western-style (I. E. Not just a shower hose over the toilet and spraying everywhere)
4. Bed is actually one piece and not two small beds pushed together
5. Located near Soi 8 bar area (I wouldn't want to be wandering too much while [CodeWord140] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord140) drunk in a new, strange, yet incredible place! )
I've searched this forum rather thoroughly for such a hotel, but couldn't find a place that met all criteria. Flipper House seemed perfect, but then read they push 2 single beds to make a queen size. That seemed like an uncomfortably bad idea, especially since I intend to use that bed to its fullest!
