Least year we did organise some churrascos at Vaní's Paradise but after Vaní split the partneship those churrascos belong to a part of the history!
But the best part of the churrascos parties is the excelent cast of women such an event can attract.
Girls love the party and the chance of making good money!

I agree with some of the guys here. Screw Rio. Its too expensive for what you get now. I haven't been in over 2 years. People say do you miss Rio. I say I miss the Old Rio. I am not going to go private hunting everyday like a couponer digging through the Sunday paper to try and save money. If I can't go to a top 5 termas everyday, and hook up with a girl, room, and entrance for 120.00, I aint going again. 470 reals for terma 65, solarium and the others. Forget it. I will have to stick to Tijuana and Colombia again. Thats it. Will I miss the 15 hour flights? Nope. I don't see the rate going back to what it used to be for a long time. With the way Obama spends money the dollar should be toast anytime now. Thanks Obama!

I take it my much loved Villa Mimosa is still surviving and thriving?I've not bothered going this year yet, based on my experience there last year and being rather busy. The private apartments in Centro are offering better value mostly, and much as I am fond of VM of old the price haggling is silly when you can get a decent session in town for less.
My point about Saens Pena, for those who like budget Rio, is that it is convenient for many places. You could add Tijuca and Maracana to the list, and the Sambadrome, and Sao Cristovao, and even the North Centro places. There's a big difference between a couple of stops on the Metro to your favourite parlours and the hot crush journey from Copa or Ipa. S. Pena is also a nice area to stay in and very untouristy. North Centro can be ok, and shops and food are cheap, but it doesn't have the relaxed middle class vibe of SPena.
What you don't have is the fun and the beach that comes free of charge (unlike most things) in Copa. The same goes for Sao Paulo, which has been discussed in both threads recently: SP is good value for GDP and has much to offer culturally, but I wouldn't call it 'fun' the way Rio can be. Its too big, and it can be a hassle to get things done.
Most of the main posters here in recent years have been terma fans. The cheap-and-cheerful crew don't seem relevant (one reason why I don't post much). But with increasing prices, I think we'll see sharper division. The very wealthy won't care, and the very streetwise won't care too much. It's the guys in the middle who will be seriously choosing which end of the market is their bag. Or, look elsewhere (which is fine by me). Good luck and enjoy, whatever you do!

The inflation in 1991 made it a hard time as you had never changed more than a small amount every time. Cruzados novos, cruzeiros, cruzeiros novos and then the real in 1994. At one time, 1995 (?), the real was stronger (1.05) than the USD. I remember I payed a Help-girl R$35 for a TLN, and it felt really expensive.
It's just a matter of adapting. In Manaus I can still eat a decent comida-a-kilo meal for less than R$5. In Rio the same meal will cost at least 4 times more. Having a cheap lunch in centro of Rio is no problem. Many of the chinese-owned lanchonettes serves very large plates of yakisoba for R$10. A session with a GP in a nice place paing R$60 is fine with me. :D

My first of many posts on this board. Thank you so much for all your information. It is very helpful. I am looking to take a trip by myself somewhere between July. October. I am a mid 30's African American (of Basan descent) and would like to know if I will have any problems fitting in if I go to Brazil and go to the termas or any other spot that the chicas hang out at for some action? I'm very respectful to women and very mature and a gentleman. But will the girls be attracted to me or give me even a second look since I'm a black guy and mid-30's? I want to make sure I go somewhere this will not be an issue. I don't want to pay all this money for a mongering trip and then fall into a racism issue.
Also, I speak very little spanish and no Portuguese. I went to Sosua last December and had a great time there. Love chicas that are light and medium dark skinned, not really into real dark (I. E. Haitians) , but not real real light either.

R.) and that makes the playing field even. If you are weak in Spanish, and do not speak Porto, forget about hooking up with a non pro. Thats wishful thinking (Unless you are turly there for business, and you meet a woman who speaks English). Again, race will not be an issue at the termas. However, Termas can be expensive. Good Luck!

It's been a while since I've been to Brazil. I'm purposely taking a hiatus. But the monger God willing, I'll be back! Your race will not be as big of an obstacle as language barrier will be. At the end of the day, you have the cash (Even though Rio is significantly more expensive than Sousa in the D. R.) and that makes the playing field even. If you are weak in Spanish, and do not speak Porto, forget about hooking up with a non pro. Thats wishful thinking (Unless you are turly there for business, and you meet a woman who speaks English). Again, race will not be an issue at the termas. However, Termas can be expensive. Good Luck!

Hi everyone,
My first of many posts on this board. Thank you so much for all your information. It is very helpful. I am looking to take a trip by myself somewhere between July. October. I am a mid 30's African American (of Basan descent) and would like to know if I will have any problems fitting in if I go to Brazil and go to the termas or any other spot that the chicas hang out at for some action? Yes the Spainards messed up Latin America pretty good with the Light Skin / White Skin makes right. However, in most of Latin America race is less of a problem than class. IE since dark skinned indigenous populations and those brought over from Africa and West Indies during the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade tend to be the poorest because like in the US it was several hundreds of years before they were even allowed equal access to wealth building blocks like education.
For instance Dominicans despite being a multi-hue society often dislikes Haitians and it has more to do with Haiti's poverty stricken status and less to do with the people being dark skinned.
Many families in DR have every shade in their family trees.
Now for the countries that have large White / Light skinned populations (Argentina, Chile, Venezuela and Brazil) tend to see their own dark skinned populations are less than due to economics again not because of skin color.
As an African-American, unless you are a similar shade to Angolans in say Brazil, you will not be grouped in by the women. While many light skinned Brazilians for example when looking at Western men are looking at Caucasians, many in-fact will consider dating / marrying an Black man from America. Now that's more about the stereotype surrounding how men from the US tend to treat their women with respect. They see you as an American firstly, not as an African-American as we're forced to identify ourselves in the US.
To sum it up, its just like you said. Some women will ignore you or even disrespect you, but if you keep digging you'll find more women interested in you than you know what to do with.

I tried again today and the same thing happened, with the long processing and then the screen saying "sem comunicacao (without communication)" and then "operacao finalizada (operation finalized)" and it goes back to the ATM home screen. I immediately ran home and checked my online statement and of course another R$800 had been withdrawn! So I filed another dispute.
Now I'm almost scared to use my ATM card again because of this. I guess I'll try a totally different bank, but this sucks because Banco do Brasil had been reliable up until yesterday and there are a lot of branches nearby for me. So beware if you see a "network" or "communication" problem on the ATM screen, then it's likely your bank has already released the funds and it's up to the ATM machine to spit it out. I had this happen one other time at one of those "24 hour ATM" machines that has all the bank names on top (HSBC, Citibank, etc). It said "Network Error" at the time I tried to get my money and it ended up taking money from my bank and I didn't get squat.

Driving through Sao Goncalo and Rocinha you can see small groups of police in some areas but certainly not the whole favela. One should not develop a false sense of security because of the police presence. As the hard core trafficants have cleared out, a new generation of teen age thugs has developed. Under Brasilian law these ratos are immune from adult prosecution. The courts put them back on the street as soon as they are arrested. They are immature and quick to resort to violence. The UPP has driven out the big time drug dealers but they have not yet tamed the new generation of child bandits.

I hate to call a group of people dumb BUT the girls and the coons at The Balcony Bar didn't keep the girls, and D- Boys in check all the tricks getting robbed and drug and one older guy back in March of 2012 I talked to a few weeks after I came back I found out he fell over died by taking to much Viagra right there in the bar (so they say). You are right on about 80% of your statement above BUT in my case with my rating % from the VA I don't have to pay ANYTHING for my health care everything is FREE (Dental, hearing, eye exams and glasses, Medical exams) etc. And you are right the VA have signed a contract with Pfizer and we DON'T get sample packs like others may get from your Doctors I can get up 10-12 100mg WHOLE pills at a time and I cut them in half. Plain and simply I've had the opposite experiences you've had since traveling to Rio de Janeiro. Even when things don't go my way (2 bad encounters in 10 years more or less) or so, there is still much accomplished as far as getting what I wish for in my travels to the marvelous city. Every trip I've taken has been an improvement over the previous one. It is all a matter of philosophy. This philosophy has been discussed here on many occasions, but as a reminder, here are my rules, and I've had plenty of help (Copied) more experienced mongers:
1. Have a plan: Before you hit the ground, you must have at least some framework to guide your pursuits. What I do is make sure I overdo my plan, make sure it is impossible to do all the things I am wishing for on a particular trip.
2. Make sure you have a base of operations. Pick the most pleasant place you know and get really comfortable. Your hang out spot. For me it evolved from Lluomos (RIP) , Monte Carlo, now 4 x 4.
3. Cross things out one by one as you get them done. That's self explanatory.
4. Don't be afraid to alter the plan. That just goes with the territory.
Some things that help also are to get at least 2 familiar providers that you are really comfortable with to visit at your place from time to time. It is up to each person to build rapport with some of these beautiful women and see them in more intimate settings (I. E Safado69, I envy your recent inventory, good job!). These encounters ought to be rare but necessary to complete the picture and mood of the trip.
It boils down to doing your homework and building rapport so you can have viable opttions. It isn't easy, but it is sure a lot of fun to try.

I went to 4x4 this past Wednesday for Dia dos Namorados (Valentine's Day). This might be the best day of the year to go to 4x4. In the restaurant, I saw the TV broadcasting the demonstration which had gone ugly. Cars were burning and police with riot gear and equipment were containing the rioters. Tear gas was used. They are here to stay. That's the reality. FIFA and the IOC need to "award" these spectacles to nations that are in the best position to bear the brunt of the load. People get carried away with the euphoria in the beginning, but these protests in Brazil are a harsh and needed snap back to reality. The second one on Sunday afternoon. 6-23-2013, started somewhere on the northeast side on Copacabana marching southward along Av. Atlantica towards Forte de Copacabana. This one was estimated to have 8, 000 to 10, 000 protesters.
In both protests, I was able to roam around freely taking photos and videos with my camera. Some protesters would push their placards and posters into my camera's view. Some would give me a thumbs-up. All or the protesters (I stressed ALL) were nice, courteous and friendly. What amazed me was the mix of people: all ages, all ethnic groups, some in shorts and t-shirts, others in Sunday clothes, middle-age and elderly couples holding hands, young couples, etc. I did not see any hooligans or trouble makers. I felt very, very safe amidst them.
However, in both instances, I took off as soon as I saw the police in riot gear and the police helicopter approaching. They all came almost at the same time. I did not see any of the violence so I didn't know what caused it.
The government and the wealthy of Brazil cannot ignore it. This is definitely a People's movement. It reminds me of the People's movement in the Philippines in the 1980s which peacefully toppled the Marcos regime and the demonstrations in Germany which brought down the Berlin Wall in the 1990s.

On Saturday 22 June I made the trip to Centaurus in the early evening. It will very likely be my last visit. The entrance fee was R$ 140, paid upfront (they did not try to insist I pay for a girl upfront). All was peaceful and somewhat organized. It was interesting to see how the policia was very careful when dealing with suspicious characters. Carneval last 4 days but thing slow down a few days before Carneval and things won't be back to normal till afew days after Carneval. Termas have less girls before and after carneval and most Termas are close during Carneval.
Its a fun time during Carneval.
