So speaking of trouble I had an annoying accident tonight which I'm sure is at least party due to my lack of experience. It being Thursday and all I tried to get a girl over from one of the escort sites. She looks really great in the pictures and replied promptly to my text messages. I met her at the block next to my apartment where she got out of a car driven by a boyfriend / pimp. She looked almost as good as in the pictures which was a relief. However her personality was the absolute worst. At this pointed I was very frustrated so I pushed her quite hard against the wall and took R100 back. She then goes nuts and starts saying I'm trying to beat her up and she and her 12 cousins are going back for blood etc. You know the drill I'm sure. I never hit her and there were no bruises, but I was quite forceful getting my money back. So my question to you veterans out there:
A. Am I an asshole for pushing her around? She absolutely would not listen to reason and I don't really feel like giving her 100% of the money for 15 minutes. What is the right move there?
B. What is the odds of blow back? Any chance of her 12 cousins coming around? If you are in an apartment, get to know the doorman. Bring them an aa or sandwich. They may not get involved in a temporary renter's business, but they will help out a friend. If a situation like SoCal's occurs, stay calm and call for the doorman. He may come to the apartment or at least talk to her.

Nowadays I always stay in a favela and I have no porteiro. Before that during 20+ years I always stayed in apartments. Usually in the same building, very close to Help. I'd say you fucked up when you allowed this chick to run game on you in the beginning. They know who to try and screw and who not to. When you actually got into a debate with her over you being allowed to fuck her beyond 3 min you had already lost the war. She had zero respect for you at that point and was going to try anything. On top of that you left money sitting around for her to grab? Come on. To be honest at that point you should have called the police yourself. Most likely they would have showed up, kicked the girl out, and then made you pay them whatever the girl tried to steal So you still would be out of your money, but at least she scamming girl didn't get it, and at least the cops now are aware that she's running bullshit games.
I'd have to agree with an earlier post that advised you to stick to termas. No offense but you sound far too inexperienced to be doing the apartment thing right now. Starting next month I'm happy to say, I'll be spending lots of time in Rio as well.
Though I'm pretty well accustomed to Brazil in general, and speak pretty good Portuguese, I'll be a newbie in Rio until I get myself acquainted.
As I do in Sao Paulo, my plan is to adventure through the lesser gringo traveled PFP venues, Centro, VM, etc, looking for the gems.

Casas de massagens: Normally they open at 10AM, a few open at 9 AM and others opens at 11AM. Closing aroung 6-8 PM. I prefer going to privées around 10.30-11 AM. At that time the majority of the girls have arrived, still "virgins" that day (being first customer is a plus) and the locals who wants bunda for lunch has not arrived yet.
Vila Mimosa: Open 24 hours 7 days a week. Friday and Saturday evening are the wildest ones, with a fun atmosphere. My favourite time to visit VM used to be around 4 PM as many girls arrived fresh to do their evening-shift. This year I tried visiting around 10-12 AM. Fewer girls around but some nice ones arriving to do their day-shift.

You should have checked your bill-everything is itemized and you could have pointed to things as they would have had to justify costs.

I have one more opportunity to escape US and boredom for 7-10 days. I am very much into eastern European types. But seen the challenges there. I have been to Rio and absolutely loved the luxury part of it. Like MonteCarlo. No taxi, no Portuguese, no nothing. Easily go, sip beer and enjoy the day. I am not into large risk taking or invest time in travelling a lot.
So for this "mental rejuvenation" (haha). I researched a lot and lot around SP, RDJ, BA, Warsaw, Frankfurt. Boy the research is so addictive. Took a lot of hours.
I was pretty happy at Brazil due to the comfort nature of the Thermas.
1. I am thinking 4 days in SP and 4 days in RDJ. (made friends with Thermas girls and got 3 phone numbers and what's apping them now).
Is Sampa like Rio thermas, or all is in Prives. The escort websites in Sampa is much superior to RDJ as they show faces. Are they mostly real or fakes?
I like to really try the 8-10 grade / model quality as I only get once in 5-7 years to do this trip.
I am looking at apartments. What is the best locality for mongering. Absolutely not interested in tourism. Just pure mongering. Safety. Luxury - access to high quality mongering are the requirements. Then on another forum a gentleman who makes multiple trips to Rio a year and has written his own guide pointed out that there really was not much, if any, money to be saved. With the strong dollar, that is even more of the case. Also, if you have to wait for an elevator it becomes a hassle. Sometimes in our attempts to feel like we are not getting ripped off, we do things which to an objective observer really don't end up saving us that much. In this case, I thanked the guy for pointing it out and now take taxis on the departure level where I have been known to negotiate for fellow tourists who do not speak Portuguese.
What you should pay is the rate on the meter plus about 2 Reais per bag. If you are set on saving money you can take the bus.

Carnival was great. Took the train from the hotel in copa. No issues, took the bleachers ticket. Purchased the tickets for $225 at the travel agencies.
Went to MC - 3 nights in a row.
Went to Centaurus and didn't like all the "up on the face" and girls jumping straight at you. So MC was perfect. 3 days before Carnival, there were approx 5-7 guys with around 25-30 girls in MC. When I first came to Rio 2 years ago I knew zero Portugues and I went to those places. Its a gentle start. More ghetto spots you need more experience to frequent to reduce the risk of being ripped off.

I still remember my first trip to Rio in 2001. I had traveled to other parts of Latin America, but this was my first trip with a language barrier. I'm fluent in Spanish and had difficulty understanding the locals. I, maybe, understood a couple of words per sentence, if I was lucky. The Portuguese pronunciations is what did me in.
My best bud and I managed by meeting some GDP's who spoke English and had them assist in translating with those that didn't. Meeting all these lovelies motivated me to learn Portuguese.

Well, I finally made it to Rio and thanks to Bubba, Sperto, Cartman, F-MedDig, and other guys, I had lots of info on hand and a general game plan for fun.
I decided to start my adventure with a trip to Centro to check out the prives, have dinner, and then hit a Terma to see what that's all about.
I grabbed a taxi to the Ipanema metro station.
Wanted to check out the metro system, which turns out is about as simple as a train system can be.
My plan was the Sperto quick Centro casa tour.
I hit Carioca 59 first, nothing but scary looking girls there, I was missing Sao Paulo at this point, LOL.
I continued over to Uruguaina 24, and there was actually several cuties there, though the place is dumpy and loud.

I used to think the same thing especially since I speak Portuguese and can negotiate with Brazilian Taxi drivers. Then on another forum a gentleman who makes multiple trips to Rio a year and has written his own guide pointed out that there really was not much, if any, money to be saved. With the strong dollar, that is even more of the case. Also, if you have to wait for an elevator it becomes a hassle. Sometimes in our attempts to feel like we are not getting ripped off, we do things which to an objective observer really don't end up saving us that much. In this case, I thanked the guy for pointing it out and now take taxis on the departure level where I have been known to negotiate for fellow tourists who do not speak Portuguese.
What you should pay is the rate on the meter plus about 2 Reais per bag. If you are set on saving money you can take the bus.

You can use this fare estimator to determine approximate metered rate. Depending on the day of the week and time of the day, there are two rates. Bandeira 1 means 6 am To 9 pm Monday through Saturday. Bandeira 2 is 9 pm To 6 am And all day Sunday. At least you'll have a target point to dicker over the price.

I did find the place, but no one answered. Similar to your situation, I ran into another Brazilian business man who was knocking on the door / ringing door bell, but no answer. He had actually been there before many times.
BTW, I also remember having to go back down to the lobby and ask at the front circular counter about location. It was on same floor, but in a location that was totally out of sequence in reference to the other offices, from what I remember. Yes, its crazy, but then again, its Brazil. Anyway, entered 4 x4, talked to the reception girl, she directed me to the locker room, and I got changed into my bathrobe and sandals.
I have to admit, I felt like an idiot wearing it, but all the other dudes were dressed up the same, so whatever.
Entered the main bar area, boate, and checked out the scene.
I thought it would be a bigger area actually.
Wasn't tiny, but not much space to roam really.
The girl were dressed in bikinis or other sexy clothes.
Some pretty hot ones too.
Some guys cracked me up, walking around all macho, robes tied around their waist, trying to win the King Tut award of Quatro x Quatro.

I've seen 100's of incidents. Muleques runnin on to buses-snatching stuff on beach and on beach front and at night. Be sensible.
Don't bring valuables to the beach and especially on weekends this is an issue when theyre out of school and come from Zona Norte and run back on metro.

But fortunately this time, there was FAMD, to back the poster up.
I can't see any reason why anyone would write a false security report, as there is nothing to gain on it. Lets take a look at it:
Most mongers in any given country will be locals. So if the "false report" was about scaring away other customers, a international forum like this would be a very ineffective way to do it.
The same with the people that always comes to question the truth about the warning, if they have a business interest (ie, a restaurant, a hotel) the few p4 p visitors will be just a tiny fraction of the total number of visitor to the city.
So a security report on a international monger forum would not affect their business.
I believe that when someone takes the time to write a heads-up / warning report on a small travelforum like this, it is to alert and help other travellers from getting into trouble.
I have first-hand experience about giving advice to newbee travellers in Rio, and they ignored the heads-up / warning. And then they got mugged and pointed in the face with a gun.
These two "cowboys" left Rio and Brazil 2 days later because of the incident.
I wish more people would at least consider, that when they get a heads-up, it might just be because that person is being friendly, and want them to have a long, good vacation, with nice memories.
I also would wish that every time someone tries to help, with a warning post or whatever else, that the post didn't got jumped on by someone.

Have not posted in a while. Based in Rio now for some time, and enjoying respite from summer heat. A bit frustrated that there is no investment in new boates / termas in Rio, but the clinica / prive activity is thriving, with lots of good daytime choices. Guys, I made it back to Rio on Monday for a couple days.

Guys, I made it back to Rio on Monday for a couple days.
Since I read about Mondays being pretty slow on the circuit, which is true about anywhere really, I decided to invite over the sexy U24 girl I met last week.
We'd been chatting on Whatsapp, so it was easy and she was eager, especially since I had an iPhone 4 waiting for her, LOL.

Balcony Bar can anyone tell me if balcony bar is open or closed. I am considering returning to Rio this summer because of the cheap air fair from the states right now but have heard from a couple people that Balcony may be closed. Also has anyone dealt with Nick from easy Rio rentals or Bobby from blame it on Rio. Have been in contact with both of them but not feeling confident about either. Feel free to PM me.

Sundays Is cool-I like to go early evening. But others find joy like 5 pmish when night shift starts. Some like Sperto have found joy late mornings. I personally try to avoid peak time Friday / sat night-.
However I have gone there on the way baack from a normal club night / party like Olimpo in Bonsucceso-like 4 am-which is better too. Every day you can get busy in VM. Never closes.

Cancun: Haven't been there in 2+ years. Same drill, whiskeria downstairs (where I never had good luck -- always seems like most of the hot girls stayed upstairs) and termas upstairs. BRL 60 entrada on a Thursday night. By the way I had a bottled sparkling water and they didn't charge me for it -- so either that's just pure incompetence (between the bar not passing the receipt to the cashier / cashier system) or there is some level of included drinks in the entrada. Because I wanted my water to be free, I didn't press my luck and ask them to clarify. Ref Entrada, I think it goes up when they have Pagode live (W / F I believe). Same weird shower situation in the "sauna" where only 1 shower has hot water, as far as I can tell. Lots of thicker girls. Saw 1 that seemed doable in a fit / workout type of way, but still had a bit of a big bunda for the Cartman's liking. Kind of slow this particular Thurdsday, for no particular reason. Stayed for 1 HR and then headed out to 502. Didn't get the pricing, sorry guys.

Comming to Europe? - Going to Switzerland? Do not even try to get some entertainment there. Go to Germany instead. Switzerland is small and it takes you by car 1- 2 hours to be in Germany. Much better choice and very much cheaper! - Alternatively take on your way back TAP to the US. They fly Zurich. Lisbon (maybe with a few days lay-over? And from Lisbon to La Guardia. (I only want to do only some good for the Portuguese economy. Ha, ha, . Please spend some of your hard-earned Dollars in Lisbon).

Everyday (Monday to Friday) is "Consumao" at Cancun now. That is, the BR60 is automatically credited to the guest for drinks and food up to the BR60 of the entry fee if you choose to do so, add more if you decide to do or consume extra stuff. If you drink more, that will be added to your bill. So, for example, you consume a Sparkilng Water (BR10), three beers (BR10) and have a pizza (BR20), you still only pay the BR60 entrada if you don't do anything else. Spend more and of course they will add that to your bill.
Visited Cancun and 502 recently for a quick update, had my wingman with me, the famous PatmarBeleza.
Cancun: Haven't been there in 2+ years. Same drill, whiskeria downstairs (where I never had good luck -- always seems like most of the hot girls stayed upstairs) and termas upstairs. BRL 60 entrada on a Thursday night. By the way I had a bottled sparkling water and they didn't charge me for it -- so either that's just pure incompetence (between the bar not passing the receipt to the cashier / cashier system) or there is some level of included drinks in the entrada. Because I wanted my water to be free, I didn't press my luck and ask them to clarify. Ref Entrada, I think it goes up when they have Pagode live (W / F I believe). Cartman out!

I feel sorry for Rick. I stayed at one of his places almost every time I went to Sosua and got to know him a bit. Hes going to lose his business hes going to lose his wife and will never be able to return to the DR again, his life is over. I would agree with what an earlier poster stated he probably did nothing more than what these major corporations are doing with their government contracts. Only with Rick the CEO did not become the Vice President which allowed his former company to bilk 30 billion in what was termed as waste fraud and abuse from the wars in the Middle East and Central Asia. No ones going to jail over that.
Why he made himself so visual on the internet and in Sosua with his business knowing he had this hanging over him ill never know and was stupid in my opinion. There's a lot of Canadians in Sosua and it would take long for one of them to put two and two together and for him to be discovered. If it was me I would of ran farther stayed quitter and been a moving target switching from country to country every few months. It was not smart of him to have been so visual and to have stayed so long in the DR.
I wish him well and hope he can still have some kind of life in Canada after he is released.

VM Rio report.
Well got back into Rio on Sunday morning, and the plan was a nice breakfast and a good snooze to prepare myself for my maiden trip to the famous Vila Mimosa.
And that's exactly what I did, waking up rested and ready to go.
Since I left my hotel in Leblon early, at about 3 pm, I figured I had time to take a stroll down the street paralleling the beach.
Hadn't done that yet.
Fun to people watch, and getting to know the area a little.
I'm used to leaving my hotel in Sao Paulo knowing the city like the back of my hand.
Now in Rio, I'm basically lost, LOL, but learning more every day.
Anyway, after getting directions from various people along the way, I made my way to the Metro for my trip to VM.
Followed Bubba's Metro guidance, then grabbed a taxi and 7 R later, I'm there.
My first impressions of VM:
-Smaller area than expected.
-Not nearly as nasty as expected, been to way worse in SP and other places in South and Central America.
Don't get me wrong, you should be on guard at VM for sure, but if you take the usual precautions and you're not an idiot, you'll be fine.
The most danger I felt was on my way home to the beach area.
I think my motorista was sh. T faced drunk, I almost bailed out, LOL.
Anyway, back to the VM event.
Since it was my first time there, I took a walk about the area, checking out the scene.
As I walked past all the barzinhos (little bars), of course I stuck my head in checking out the available garotas.
On my first pass I spotted 2 or 3 that I liked, but wanted to talk to each of them first, before selecting.

I am planning a trip to Rio mid June, and I was wondering which 4 or 5 star Ipanema and Copacabana hotels are girl friendly. I am happy to book a room for double occupancy, but still not clear which ones are OK with visitors. I have RTFF but there isn't much mention. I have also emailed a couple of hotels, but I get really cryptic responses (possibly they are not understanding my question).
I am aware that apartments is a better way to go but I need to do hotel for work purposes.
Also, if anyone is interested in meeting up around 16 to 21 June to do some joint patrolling, I'm open to suggestions. I'm a 37 year old from England, pretty easy going and relaxed.

Looks like you do not need a Visa to Travel to Brazil anymore. With the Brazil Economy Suffering, Brazilian Confidence Low, The Olympics coming soon, and The US Dollar Strong, I guess the Brazilian Law Makers are realizing they need to open up tourism.
If they want to jump start the economy. As a American Paying $160 Dollar Visa fee is a pain and it will deter any tourist. I think its a smart move.

I had left copy of my passport at home. I was very humble and apologized for not having ID and will remember it next time. He let me off but guided me to a club he suggested I enter (he gets a kickback) -I accepted.
But the entrance was only 20 reais.
Another time cab got pulled over in Ipanema! LOL I was in backseat with a hot mulatta who used to work at MC-the cop was more interested in harassing the cab driver.
A third time we got pulled over going into meyer Zona Norte. I had my pp copy and he let me carry on.
It is def annoying because anything could have happened.
Him asking for a cafe- (a mini-gift) to whatever. A guy I know got kidnapped by Police in Sao Paolo coming out of the airport and was made to go to the cashpoint and withdraw 2000 reais in 2 days and then they let him off outside the city.
Brazil is Brazil.
Many of my people get stopped repeatedly. Also out of Rio-in the country side it can be worse! LOL.
Defintely suborno time w / o neccesarily saying it as stated.

As soon as the cop got out of the car she told me "Don't let him know you speak Portuguese, only speak english! The officer pulled us both out of the car and tried to interview me, I acted like I didn't understand anything he was saying. AFter a few minutes, he just got annoyed, handed me my ID and said for me to get back in the car. She ended up giving him 50 R and we were on our way. She explained that if the cop knew I understood portugese, we would have ended up paying a lot more money.

I hope so too, but I don't expect much from a country that keeps on referring to itself as a 'Pais do Futuro' (I. E. Never reaching its full potential). Reciprocity (I. E. Brazilian pride) is at stake in here.
1. US / Canada requires visas for Brazilians. Brazil require back visas for Americans / Canadians.
2. US starts taking digital photos / fingerprints of all visitors at the port of entries (as of mid-2000). Brazil starts taking digital photos / fingerprints, but only for visiting Americans at GRU / GIG. The process was truly comical. Americans used to have a special line for this measure at the airport. Sometimes the agents will take the pictures, most of the times, these preguioso agents won't even bother. The process lasted for a couple of years before it was discontinued. Today, whenever I arrive to GRU / GIG, these cameras are still in display collecting dust. It brings back good memories (cheap sex-great sessions when Rio was Rio).

The way it works is that once you deplane, you go to a kiosk and buy a stamp for say 20-30 Reais, then proceed to the immigration line. By doing so, embezzlement at the consulates can be reduced as one of the articles stated. The consulates abroad will be reduced in size and their role will be limited to cater only for Brazilians affairs. Cost savings all across the board. But, alas, this is BraSil. The 'Pais do Futuro'.

Finally boots on the ground making lots of mistakes like a newbie, as I am. Stumbling learning with acai bowl in hand. Not bad. Has anyone tried XY Zen lately I visited today and it was hard to find as it was reported. The guy manning the garage, nice guy, told me something but my Portuguese is nonexistent and Google Translator failed as well. It sounded like she was telling me that XY Zen was closed for good. However it was a holiday today and places were closed as well, so I'm not entirely sure. Their website also is offline. Can anyone confirm that they are still in business?

My first report from Rio. Navigating through the streets is fun as well as challenging because I have never visited the city before. Recommend getting a unlock phone with data and google translate capabilities as I kept getting lost in and around apartment buildings. It also takes a bit getting used to passing the security guard ringing apartment doors not knowing whether or not you're in the right place. I rang the wrong places a few times and that was quite embarrassing. Anyway when I made it to Star Cris around 2 pm, I was greeted by a middle aged lady. She was business like but nice and tried to explain things in Portuguese which was a challenge for both of us. Unfortunately there were only 2 girls available and I chose Agatha. Now she has some bad reviews and I can understand why. She's a spinner type girl with gorgeous tan skin and long dark hair. Quite a pretty girl by all means. And she feels so good to the touch. So you want the session to go really well but it just doesn't. She has a tendency to rush things and not very affectionate. I blame myself for half of this because I feel if my Portuguese was better we both would have had a better time. Intimacy and connection is created by the art of language and I was missing that part. Without it I'm just another guy wanting to bone her good which I do but that is it. To her credit she did try to be instructive and caring as much as she could. The other half is because she has lots of restrictions once inside the room. Going through the motions. She's quite nice afterwards but during is not the same thing. It was a okay session that could have been improved in many ways. Reminded once again to manage my expectations (because my lack of Portuguese) and do my best on my end for a better outcome. Only did a half an hour for 100 real.
