Has anyone had any success with going with a small group of guys and finding a place that lets you have parties? Most of the places I've messaged on airbnb has said no except one but also want the noise level to quiet down after 10 pm.Easier to ask forgiveness than to get permission. Rent a penthouse and don't mention the party. We used to do it all the time before airbnb and all these rules got put in place.

An old-time veteran back in Rio for a few weeks who are trying to use PhotoAcompanhantes (which I'm assuming is the best source for independents) / WhatsApp for the first time, with extremely limited success so far.
When pressing the WhatsApp button on PhotoAcompanhantes about 1/4 the listings go through, the other 3/4 return a message "Phone number shared via URL is invalid. " I don't know why this is (does anyone? And would like advice as to what that means I should do next. Send a plain text to the phone number using my regular texting app, for example? Or is that risky in some way?
Of the few that have gone through so far, three unread, three read, one one of which replied to. I was wondering if anyone might know why that might be, and if there some protocols in messaging that I need to follow that would increase my success. Good looking late middle-aged guy with a profile photo, sending the stock opening message that PhotoAcompanhantes fills in, can't figure out why they would ignore messages.
The final question would be, about what percentage of the photos in the ads are real vs. Fake?

Speaking of hookers, I hit VM on Sunday night.
I spent all of December in Europe exploring, and man did I miss Brazil! The girls mainly, of course.

Trust me, the hottest Brazilian girl in the club knows she's the hottest girl in the club. You're not the first dude with a sizable income to hit on her. 3) While the beach is not an easy place to pick-up civilian girls, you have the benefit of the assertive advantage mentioned in point #1. Guys certainly like beach shopping for obvious reasons. I think civilian girls feel vulnerable in their skimpy bikinis and are usually hanging out and chilling with their friends. The beach also adds the challenge of overcoming judgement from her friends. (Club girls and their friends can be in pick-up mode. The beach is different.)
4) It helps to have Brazilian buddies on the ground who can introduce you to locals. Introductions are very helpful here. There is less judgement of a tourist with a Brazilian buddy.
I still think it helps to get away from the tourist zone (gringo gulch). I would love to hear others' take on getting out and about. It would be great if others can add to this list.

A nice and lengthy first effort on this site, but your post is full of inaccuracies and rookie errors. I will point out just one. I've been to Rio a number of times this year, (and over 20 times in total) was there over Christmas and New Year, have stayed in a variety of hotels almost all of which have an issue with bringing back girls.
* Windsor Group. Policy that they do not allow girls in, their security somehow recognize them too I had one come in very subtle clothing, had booked a room for 2 people and they would not allow her access, I argued with them to no avail. I have stayed in a variety of Windsor properties, this is their policy.
* Hilton. I was allowed to take in a girl but was charged 250 are $ for the privilege. My buddy tried to bring back 2 girls and was told no.
* JW Marriott. They were better, wasn't asked which surprised me even though one night was very late back with girl and very drunk.
I spent 3 weeks over Christmas and New Year and found tipping the doorman at my apartment building worked a treat, he did not ask once when I had a variety of girls back as I have him 100 are $ when I checked in, I return in a few weeks and will adopt the same policy.
A definitive list of guest-friendly hotels in Rio would be very helpful.
Sao Paulo does not impose the same restrictions although some of them charge a guest fee and make the girls check-in, this isn't always a bad thing in case you wake up the next morning with a missing wallet! I always lock everything in my safe, everything.

In fact, in over 80 visits to Rio including hotel stays in months, not days, I have never had an issue. This includes hotels in Botafogo, Ipanema, Leblon, Glória, Centro, Santa Teresa and São Conrado (Intercontinental. Now closed). Have not stayed recently in Barra because I stay with friends there.
Would love to hear specifics about issues people have had because, again, not my experience.
I have requested on a rare occasion that reception check and hold an ID if I had doubts about a girl. Members may not know but one of the most important items to a Brazilian is their ID card (has their photo and finger print) - documento. They will not leave it behind.

And I don't just stay in a bunch of "low end" hotels. I started with the Rio Roiss when I was new because I knew from the research that I had done that it would be a safe pick. But then with further research, I found that there were hotels all over town that were decent and where I would have zero problems bringing tutes in, and they weren't dumps either. I don't like to stay in dumps generally speaking. It's not misinformation to report that you may have had a problem at a particular hotel. But it is misinformation to say that it is a general issue in Rio. And it's also misinformation to suggest that you only avoid issues by staying in low end places. That's not true. I've been to Brazil too many times to know. And I have not even stated all of the places I had a room at because frankly I don't remember them all. I stayed at a very nice apartment-hotel a couple of times, but then went back to straight hotels because the place was kind of pricey. At the end of the day people need to figure it out for themselves. I have done what works for me. And no dumps mind you! They may not be the Copacabana Palace, but they sure the hell aren't dumpy either.
There is a section for for Rio hotels 😉 . Just saying.
Anyone been to uruguaiana building 24? Do the girls change daily? It's a cheap working girl house, 5 floors of naked and semi naked ladies available for about 60 rs for 30 minutes. There are cafes on each floor where you can chat and grab a beer. I was there on Friday and there were a couple of decent girls but it is not the most salubrious of places. But if you in the area it's worth a look around. The entrance is behind a kiosk and no charge to enter.

Well, I post this so some of you can get a great laugh.
Rio didn't treat me very well last night.
It was Sunday night, so things were understandably going to be slow, but I found Casablanca based on trying to find New Munich (Casablanca is the new name for New Munich). In retrospect it was hard not to find Casablanca since there are street pushers a block in every direction trying to hand out cards and walk you to the door. I suppose this should have been my first warning.
Anyway, I get to the front door and the gringo tax starts off right away. 100 R cover, with two "free drinks". I get inside and start talking to Jennifer with my rum and coke. I'm liking what I'm seeing and I'm on board (I knew she was going to be exceptional), and then the buy me champagne routine starts. I wasn't about to do it, but I had to ask - "how much is the champagne?" 550 are. Oh, and they have a cheaper option of 290 R. Yeah, fuck off.
Despite this disrespectful hustle, I was polite. I asked what they wanted for an hour with Jennifer. 500 R for the girl, and 250 R for the room rental. Add the door fee and that was going to be 850 R. I guess they thought they were in Switzerland or London?
I cut my losses right there and walked out without drinking my second drink.
I found what I thought was a lower rent place by walking into the "no cover" bar Cafe Sensoo "American Bar" which is across the street from the Hilton Copacabana. For an American bar, none of the girls spoke English (fair enough, it's their country, but the only thing American in that bar was the bourbon). I chatted using Google Translate with Patricia, who was very nice. She wasn't as sexy as Jennifer but I would have gone with her if the gringo tax wasn't still following me. Again with the goddamned champagne routine. Who falls for this shit? Anyway, they showed me a menu with a low price for a mimosa for Patricia. I don't really mind paying 10 bucks for a few drinks for her, since she's making an effort with the translator, etc. This was to end badly.
In the end when the rubber was to meet the road, it was going to be 400 R for an hour with Patricia and 100 R for the room. I said no thanks, I'll just pay for the drinks. One bourbon and two of P's Mimosas came to. Drumroll please. 220 R. I knew there was no point in arguing.
So, quite a night. 320 R and no sex, and treated like shit in two places.
Apparently Rio has not learned the old expression "You can shear a sheep many times, but skin him only once."
I think I will try Eden spa today, since massage parlors seem to be more up front and consistent with their pricing schedules. Honestly there is nothing I consider more disrespectful than the Gringo tax. You can call that naive if you like, I just want to pay the same price as the next guy. That's how it is in Europe.
So I have no idea how to establish with the locals that I'm not to be done that way.
If someone knows a place that is fair to North Americans (I'm Canadian) who speak English, please drop me a PM because I'm still here for a few more days, but pretty turned off based on last night.
Thinking also of trying Monte Carlo tonight. But it seems to be the pattern that any place that is "organized" with the whole setup seems to be hard wired to do the champagne sell and the whole routine.

Well, I just got back from Eden spa, and I couldn't have had a more different experience than last night.
Straight up printed price list. 200 R for an hour. 220 with a card.
I spent an hour with Aloha. She was just what I needed. Sensual and 90% GFE, only missing DFK (she kissed on the lips but didn't seem super keen so I didn't push it since everything else was so good).
She didn't speak English (none of the girls did) but she made a fantastic effort to chat and everything was fine. I understand a little Portuguese and Spanish, so we managed.

I think things are pretty clear so far.

I remember ordering a caipirinha from a kiosk or even a coke from a juice bar and getting charged more than the going rate. As I became friends with some of the girls we used to play a game. They would hide and I would go up and order a beverage. Walk away and hide and then they would order the same thing for a much lower price. Used to be a regular at Carretão on Rua Ronald de Carvalho. I always had to call the manager over to correct the bill. One time under suggestions, I wrote andão mais preços gringo (no more gringo prices).
I have gotten to know the owner of Casablanca. I even did a dupla there with a non-GDP and GDP when they were first experimenting with onsite service. Usually a door person or even one of the touts speaks some English. My suggestion is to tell them you are not an idiot. I have seen the same girl's drink game played at King George in Frankfurt, Germany. Hot girls out on the street leading guys on. Nothing actually goes on inside other than guys being suckered into buying expensive drinks then being strong-armed to pay.
My advice in Rio is at the first sign of gringo prices, call them on it. If they say that is the way it is, then walk. These days, since I am fluent in Portuguese, I ask doormen if I can go in and look around without paying. If that is not a problem (usual case) then it is a good sign they want to do legitimate business. I have met some superstars at these places. These girls go from place to place like Casablanca, Dolce Vita so there is no reason to pay a house premium. Take her to a love motel or your place. One word of warning, if you do. Unlike a termas where the girls are usually well-behaved because they want to come back tomorrow, you will be on your own. Another good reason not to drink too much. Keep your wits about you.

Any help on recommendations on best places to go to for the ladies and the places to avoid. I know about 4 x 4, Centaurus, and Dolce vita. But any other places to go to? Night clubs, termas, guest friendly hotels, etc. We have no issue paying to play. Just hate getting involved in the gringo trap. I know last time we went to Dolce Vita they tried to fuck us with the extra drinks LOL the first night, but then we just spoke with one of the bouncers and he got everything sorted out so when we came back it wouldn't be an issue. I didn't take to Rio that much, bar girl scene is dead, mabs hit and miss with the better looking girls asking for too much, accommodation is not cheap if you are staying a while.

There is Casarao American Bar and Balneiro American Bar (not recommended for other reasons) in Sao Paulo. Just have to know which ones have the bad reps. Anyway, the downside of this setup vs the spa thing is that the spa has oversight by way of the mamacita. This means you get proper make up. They can't slack off, they're representing the business. You get a high standard and you don't have to argue for it.
The home setups don't. So the girls can be lazy, not made up, and there's no accountability for them.
That's a bit idealistic view on things; just because there is a mamasan, it doesn't guarantee good service. I did have infamous Rio Tourist Fucks in "spas" as you call them (LOL). I am reading back from 2009 at the moment (up to 2015 so far) so hadn't seen recent posts. Man the fire 4 x 4 is disappointing on a personal level. Taking in the Samba Schools in The Sambadrome Marquês de Sapucaí is worth the trip, but, do it on the Saturday after Carnaval. The Champion's Parade.

I am not a big fan of bloc parties and if you spend months at a time in Rio, you would understand why. They start well before Carnaval and the music gets monotonous. Missing those to me is a good thing. The girls from throughout Brazil who come for Carnaval sometimes leave immediately after, but some do stay over a few days. If you arrive on Thursday, you should still catch them.
As for cost, you will save a lot. Most rentals are for 5, 7 or 10 days which people do not use. Those renting to tourist can then double-dip and re-rent which means lower post Carnaval rates can be even lower. Especially with the lower demand and greater supply. Same for Champion Parade tickets. Same for the girls since most of the tourist have gone.
So, is it worth it visiting Rio during Carnaval? Yes. However, it is my opinion that you won't miss much of interest other than the crowds and high prices by coming immediately after it is officially over.

This is my first report. I am reading your reports for a long time and its time that I do my part to.
I am in Rio since close to 2 weeks and l have to admit that I am not impressed at all. I know very little Portuguese but can communicate enough to get along.
4 x 4 is still closed and the termas I went (Centaurus and Monte Carlo) are basically rip off places with in my eyes very run down facilities. Sure there are stunners there but they charge you 3 times what a Carioca would pay. I don't like to negotiate to much but.
Mostly they stick to their price. The after taste of being ripped of turned me off.
What I find alot more interesting are the freelancers which you have to double check with gparena (a lot of fake or to good to be true postings even in high end escort sites) but there I found some real good providers for around 250-300 rs. I even had 2 overnighters for 700 RS. I liked very much Terma 502 which is not a Terma. There are basically only locals and there are some stunners if you go on Thursday's and Friday's. I basically took them for a session (250 RS) and took their numbers afterwards. Mostly met them and friends of them private afterwards which was much more GFE than I was getting in any place I went.
I didn't went to Villa Mimosa because I don't think its safe enough for me.

Food- Due to limited Portuguese, only dined at buffet style restaurants and the food was amazing.
Uber- It worked amazing and used it everywhere. Super cheap as well and forget the taxi.

Sperto. I understand why you stopped posting your lists. You also started withholding Prive numbers etc from your reports (although I note as of late you have been a bit more forthcoming again). Whilst I am new here (I am not going to sit here and tell you what you should and shouldn't post), I am not new to these forums and my own view is that it is not in the general spirit of these forums for Senior members just to share info among themselves by private message. Whilst my moral stance is irrelevant to other members, the bigger issue is that the overall impact a lack of accessible information on the forum has in general. Senior members move for work, get ill, die, change mongering location. If there isn't new life breathed into these boards then eventually the information dries up completely. It is therefore in all board members interests that new members like myself stick around. Whilst a lot of new members come here downright lazy, unless someone is determined as I am to read through everything the information is not easy to fund. On a couple of occasions, I went through 6 months or so of posts without anything of use. There are people who will always register, ask a load of questions and then never be heard from again. But the way I look at is if the information I post helps convince one in a hundred new members to stick around and post their own reports and feedback then in the long run that benefits both myself and the entire forum.
So moving on to my contribution back to the forum. I will be doing my own trip report in a month or so once I am back in the UK from my upcoming trip. (I don't travel with a laptop so any on the ground reports are very unlikely) In the meantime as I was reading through all 20875 posts in this thread I have been copying and pasting everything of use into one document and I have gradually filtered this down into a few directories. Essentially I now have a directory of all locations mentioned on this Forum in the last 10 years, notes price updates (price updates from 2017 onwards), full address etc. Everything is in relevant sections. For example there is a sub heading of Centro prives and then separate headings for each building and further sub heading prive number etc. I have also updated World Travel 69;s Map. My question for the senior members is how would you suggest I post the information back.
1) I could post it as a set of a few word documents / PDF. The problem is this won't be accessible to basic members which is the whole point of a guide like this and I have to repost the entire thing each time to update it which isn't very practical.
2) I could share the file with a google docs link (perhaps in a new thread so it doesn't get bogged down on the main thread with the economics discussions). This has the advantage that the link will always provide the most recent update. As I am still in moderation as a new member perhaps admin can confirm that this doesn't break any of your rules (I had a look over the rules and its wasn't really covered0 in principle it doesn't seem any different to a google maps link so hopefully this is OK).
3) I could share the file via google docs again as 2 above but allow the document to be edited by anyone, whilst in an ideal world this would be the perfect solution, I can't help but think that there would people ruin it and post negative things or deliberately delete information or insert deliberately misleading information.
I am leaning towards option 2 personally if it is allowed by the forum rules.

Just returned from a trip to Rio for Carnival and I'm itching to go back. Here are the places I visited:
Mab's.
Was walking along Copa and ran into it around 7 or 8 PM. Probably too early as it was almost empty. Had a beer, didn't return at a later hour.
Whiskeria 65.
First terma that the boys and I visited. It was either a Monday or Tuesday night.
When I walked into the lower floor lounge, I was struck by how small it was! I thought it would be similar to a sauna in Prague, but clearly Brazil isn't quite up to that level.

Intro for perspective
I would call my self a semi pro mongerer. I have been Rio once before but it was one of 1st my travels abroad. Day 1 Mon 2nd March
Flight.
Departing from London Gatwick (very easy for me) direct to Rio International with Norwegian Air. Norwegian air charge a lot of extras (25 meal each way) and hold luggage (45 each way) which means it is not as cheap as you think. Landed 1 hour ahead of schedule as per the flight details so arrived 7.15 instead of 8:15. Getting through security was very easy. Plan was to get an uber from the airport. My research led me to believe that ATM's were available near the exits on the departures level near the exit for Uber but I didn't spot an ATM on the entire floor, despite looking again whilst we were waiting for the delayed Uber. I was getting rushed by the other guys so I didn't have the chance to be really thorough.
We waited at the exit for ages for our Uber it wasn't showing up. In the end I decided to persuade everyone to write of the uber and just get a regular taxi meter parked at the departures section because we had been waiting around 20 minutes or more. Cost basically are $80 to Rua Hilrio de Gouvia. Copacabana.
Apartment.
Air BnB Right next door to Monte Carlo on Rua Hilrio de Gouvia. Very girl unfriendly or any guests for that matter and it was stated in the house rules and the host reminded us about it about 10 times before the trip. I think the block owners had try to force out the Air Bnbs in this apartment block basically and the only way to stay was to agree about no guests. Basically tying to organise 6 other guys into making a booking was very difficult and we struggled to find anything 6 or 7 bedrooms. In the end we went for a 4 and a 3 bed close to each. We never put the rule to the test although I had the impression the doorman would have looked the other way with an incentive late at night although the host lived nearby and I did bump into him a few times. On the whole the apartment was nice and spacious 4 bathrooms and location was quite perfect. Walking distance to many places on Av. Nossa Sra. De Copacabana, Mabs etc. See view from Balcony.

Got talked into going for supplies although my own plans were just to grab a sandwich and head to Monte Carlo. Headed to Pao de Acar Av. Nossa Sra. De Copacabana, 493 there is an alcohol shop just outside and also they have atms outside there probably not the safest and they charged are $24 to use but given the limited options late at night they certainly can be useful as I saw very few external ATM's the whole trip. My friend used them with no issues.

I managed to convince the guys to head here. Some of the guys clearly weren't comfortable in the environment though and headed home although it turned out some of the other of the group who I didn't know where mongers were sitting in Mabs when we arrived.
This place gets a lot of stick regarding quality but I was pleasantly surprised. I was awake far earlier than I intended The group were heading to see Christ the Redeemer. I had been before but cannot find my photos from back then so decided to go again although it was cloudy so I tried to suggest that they reschedule to no avail. Went up by van (I think $40 return trip) but that only goes about half way and then it was around are $32 for the other half of the route up so I costs about the same as the train in the end. (some of our group got the train but but the time we arrived the wait for the next available train was over an hour).

Sugarloaf
Most of us decided to hike up Urca rather than getting the cable cars all the way. The sun came out by this point so we were all sweating heavily. But a cool thing to go up this together. Its not the hardest of climbs but no walk in the park either and some of it gets quite slippery as well.
By the time we had taken photos on top of Urca etc and was heading for the cable cars to sugarloaf it started to rain so we didn't han around on sugarloaf very long. To be honest the view from sugarloaf was not really any better than Urca anyway but going all the way up is one of those "I have done that" things.
Got an Uber back to the apartment, got cash at Bradesco. Got cleaned up rested for an hour or so and then headed of to get the trip statrted properly.

Got an early start (to my surprise) my friends were going off for some regular tourist stuff but I decided I wanted to explore some Prive's today.

I'm having problems getting back home. It's propably a very bad time to be in Rio right now. How fun can it be if they close down everything (cinema, theater, shows, Maracana, shopping centers, beaches etc)? I read an article yesterday that mentioned that Rio is closing down brothels, but I found no local information that confirmed this. In a heap in the corner of their living room was a swag pile of junk their customers had given them pretty much everything listed by the previous poster, plus three or four George Foreman grills. Laughed when I saw that and the girls said 'what do these guys think we're supposed to do with this stuff?Great fucking post. Never understood why guys felt it necessary to give more than money.
