We now return to the original ISG Forum with the purpose for which it was created.Thanks, for sure. The poorman evidently never got the chance to unload on his Top sargeant, tell him all about the and-word, and Mark Twain, so in order to get off, he dumps it here.
Rio is Over. It was a fun place once upon a time. If all there is to say now is what happened in 40-minutes in a cabin with a flat-backer than what's here has become nothing more than a circle jerk. (note: four times in Rio last year, most recently December)

It has been about a year since I was in Rio and I normally stay a few nights in an Apt so taking GDP's from help is not an issue, this time however I will only stay one night hence a hotel is the only option. Does anyone know of a decent girl friendly hotel that does not charge an arm and a leg for that special overnight friend? I have stayed a the Sheraton before and they were cool but I am looking for somewhere coll and closer to Copa. I will be overnighting on 1/18 if any other member want to meet up and go on the prowl.

It is right next door to the Rio Rioss hotel. 160 Reais very nice at the desk. I was there in November 26 also for one day. Nice new rooms. and 2 block from Help and MP.

Managed to get something better and 2 bedrooms for 80 us per night, direct with one off the owners off luxuary 1/2 bed apartments that I know in Rio.

After being stranded in Atlanta dur to missing my connection, I finally made it. Initally I dropped my stuff off in Laranjeiras, took care of some business in Centro, then headed to ground zero.
I´ve been told that I just missed a stint of 3-4 day of rain, but now it´s hot, and muggy. I ended up at Meia Pataca foir a couple of hours just taking it all in. Being relatively early, there wasn´t much to see. I studied the other people had a quick sandwich, then hit the beach. All I could think was that it was fucking hot.
I had a cpuple of beers but didn´t want to sit too long. Afterwards, I headed back to MP. I ended up sitting with Jane aka Brtty Boop. Damn she can talk alot. Do I care that she´s excited about doing a porno with some guy, hell no. But, her friend was cute, so I stayed.
After a few drinks, I moticed something was starting to stir in me. There was this girl, I don´t remember her name, but she an 8 in my book. We ended up going to the Vanity Hotel, cost R$70. I don´t know the time limit, but it was a waste.

Are you serious? Pretty much everyone here favors an apartment over a hotel.Based on what I went through with my apartment stays, the managers had no options if something went wrong. If a hotel room had an issue with furniture or plumbing, for example, hotels will likey have other rooms to relocate you. My last apartment had a major plumbing leak, and the rental service did't have suiable options. So I was stuck with workers in my apartment, and water leaking on my bathroom floor. They only had one apartment to show me, and it wasn't a great move. Plus when I first got the apartment, there wasn't enough towels and sheets. I spent $280.00 of my money for extra linen, and it would've been too costly to take them home, so I had to leave the extra linen with the manager and hopefully use them again on my next trip.
So I scouted out a few hotels at or near Ave Atlantica. It's worth a try on my next trip. And the double occupancy for female guests doesn't seem too expensive for me.

Luckily I used the advice touted in Bubba Boy's guide and avoided a possible negative situation. Nevertheless, not all the girls in Help are bad seeds. There are many a monger that have had good experiences with girls from help. Try to think logically and follow the advice of experienced mongers on this board and you will be fine.

Instead of doing something like staying in an Hotel why don't you find out from some people on the board what apartments are good so it will not be hit or miss. It is ok to stay in an apartment if you are just going to go to Termas. But if you are going to be bringing girls to you place an Apartment is a must. The prefer the apartments, which mean they stay longer, which means you have more happy time!
If you need some apartment recommendations just send me a PM, I have a few guys that are solid and their apartments are all top notch.

You will get as many different opinions on your questions as there are people on the board. There are those that never go to Help and there are those that only go to Help. You will have to go and try out all the different types of places and you will have a favorite of your own. Personally, I love Termas but I prefer Help or Barbarella. I prefer to spend the night with the girls because then I get more happy time.
My advice, for what it is worth, would be to try out a couple of nice Termas and go to Help and try that out. At Help, don't pick to early, never let them pick you, you pick them and make sure you negotiate up front for what you want. You will pick all the tricks of the trade with experience.

In case of a problem with the girl ((which never happened to me), I feel safe because the front desk has her ID card, and checks out with me if all is well before she can have it back.
I would only consider an appartment if travelling with a bunch of male friends, and we rent a really luxury one of several thousand square feet.

Augusto Hotel is the one that I like. It is a block away from the subway station, has a fitness room, and is conveniently located a short distance from the beach. You can even walk to L'uomo if you are so inclined.

My input: Nice hotels with the willingness to have decent ID checks etc are not in the heart of the action and the ones that are in or near won't allow guests. Aparthotels are the practical compromise between luxury hotel v pricing v amenities such as avail of rooms, linen, etc.

If you're going to Rio for a mongering trip, there is going to be a bit of downtime, so I think an apartment is the better option. It's a place you can go back and chill, without the feeling of getting "cabin fever" that you might get being couped up in a hotel room after awhile. Staying at an apartment also gives the feeling of "living in Rio", which is pretty damn cool.

Help is still open and price depends on so many variables.

i'd recommend this vid (http://www.revver.com/video/359809/the-underbelly-of-rio-de-janeiro-vila-mimosa/) for one thing only - it gives you an idea of the run-up if go there on the bus. as you know, rj buses have only two speeds most of the time - bone-shattering highspeed and stop. so if you jump the bus to praca bandeira (where you need to get off for mimosa) you have to be pretty quick.
the camera is shot from inside a car as it goes along pres. vargas, over the flyover, and onto pr.bandeiras. you can see that the car goes up the flyover, passes under a higher flyover, and then down again. here the car pauses in order to get into the right hand lane in praca bandeira so as to make the turn off under the iron bridge.
if you get the bus, ring the bell as it mounts the flyover. if you leave it past that point you may miss your stop.
(apart from that it is pretty sh*te - it tags vm as "one of the most dangerous and decrepit places in rio de janeiro," drives round on what looks like a sunday morning when it's near deserted, then again at night but fails to spot any action, yet does catch a couple of guys being frisked).
for anyone not familiar with vm, probably best not to go by bus the first time. also the driver in the vid goes round the triangle anticlockwise to comply with the one way system - if you're walking, you'd probably go the other way, the way he leaves the triangle and back onto bandeira.
buses save you time and money unless it's rush hour. and also the grotty walk from the metro station in cristavao (or the confusing walk from the metro in alfonso pena.)

They must have made some kind of off season trade with MC, because when I arrived there I could not believe my eyes. This is the main upgrade I've made to my plans recently. Rain in Rio can be anything from inconvenient to a bloody pain.
2 main areas for me:
1) Transport.
Have had this one figured for a while now, since a time when I bought expensive concert tickets and wound up with not a hope in hell of using them. When it rains in Rio, the city slips from it's '3rd world pretending to be a 1st world' kinda fast - like a water-slide ending up in a six inch flood. The one stopping you from even crossing the road to the supermarket. Traffic on major routes has the function of keeping you less wet rather than getting you any place at all. Everything's gridlocked.
Ways round this are:
i) for pussy and most everything else, get home deliveries. I try to have the phone numbers of some local good-value girls I've seen once already, that live walking distance, will make staying indoors a joy, and won't charge the earth. If she's travelling by any means other than Metro or on foot, bear in mind the weather can occasion up to several hours delay. If you don't know how to order pizza, ask her when she arrives.
ii) for planning purposes, have fall-back options in your diary in case the weather hits bad. If you have to travel to a venue at a certain time, get there very early and go for a meal or something while you wait. Because of Rio's almost inbuilt unreliability, I tend to have at least one or two fallback options for every day. This is also important if you've arranged to meet a buddy in a different area - things won't always go to plan.
2) Clothing
This is a biggie for me. I like to have the freedom to get around. Rio cannot afaik sell you trainers that are lightweight, waterproof and won't make your feet hot. The mucky option says wear havaianas and let the mud wash off the way it washed on, but I don't always wanna do that. Likewise light, packable waterproof jacket and trousers that don't look totally geekish. You can now get all of these items from a good technical-clothing store, the sort of places that cater to adventurers and serious outdoor sport enthusiasts. I tried my latest outfit in monsoon conditions in Asia and was pretty comfy while everyone else did their drowned hamster impressions.
Good luck. There's more to Rio than good weather (but grab the beach sun days when they come!!)

Here is my experience in Rio de Janeiro. The stories from other members of the ISG helped me a lot of finding my way and not wasting whole lot time finding the garotas.

Instead of taking taxi, I ventured into taking Real Bus into Copacabana. The trip cost me 7 Real (about 2 dollars) and the bus dropped me off in front of Rio Othon Palace Hotel. having just completed my first ever trip to pattaya, i thought it might be helpful for the monger community to get a comparison of the worlds two most famous mongering destinations.
just a few words of background. i love rio and brazilian women and have been to the marvellous city many times over the years. i speak portuguese which also makes a big difference. so my conclusion was never in doubt, but i will try to give a fair, albeit it, personal comparison.
my holidays are on relatively high budgets, so the conclusions are based on a fairly good budget.
the two cities
rio is probably one of the most beautiful cities in the world with a great combination of beaches, mountains, forests etc. traffic is bad, but the city has a good metro system and taxis are available very easily.
pattaya is not as nice as rio, but still has a beach (but nobody was swimming in the water). it is very build-up and i felt it was quite crowded. traffic is ok, and baht busses are readily available.
winner: rio
safety
i never felt unsafe in pattaya and it seems to have a good safety reputation.
rio is known to be an unsafe city with a very high murder rate. personally, i have never had problems in rio as i take my precautions.
winner: pattaya
non-mongering activities
pattaya has very good sporting activities available at very good prices. these include diving, golf, [CodeWord117] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord117) etc. this is less easy to find in rio.
rio has excellent sightseeing tours, including the statue of christ and sugarloaf mountain to name a few. pattaya seemed to have less interesting tour options.

food
both cities have very good local food available a reasonable prices. i like both thai and brazilian food so for my detail regular meals both cities have good options.
there are a number of very good restaurants in rio with high-end international cuisine. these include satyricon, antequarius, fasano etc. i did not find high end international restaurants in pattaya.
winner: depends on food preference – mine is rio due to the high end restaurants.
non-pro nightlife
when in rio i sometimes like to take a night off (from the professional ladies) and go to a regular club. there are many good clubs with local clients only where you can have a great time. on some occasions you might even end up with non-pro for the night.
in pattaya there are so many foreingnes and prostitution is more widespread than in rio. this also means that most if not all clubs with have foreigners and local pros in their audience.
brazilian music in pretty good and i have even come to like to bailefunk party music – whereas i have heard enough thai techno music to last me a lifetime.

Gents: As of today, prices at 4 X 4 have gone up. The price for a 40 minute session is now 160 Reals. The price for an hour in a regular cabin is now up to 200 Reals. you know the difference may be for me that i went to thailand first and then went to other destinations. for me thailand is a whole different animal than rio and the two cannot be properly compared to each other. i love them both for many diffferent reasons but i really love the fact that women are available on a p4p basis at both locations. one trip i may need some rio in my life, the other trip i may need a little pattaya.

as for rio, the feeling of being in rio cannot be compared. walking along the beach on atlantica never can be equaled in pattaya. you have all versions of tall, short - dark and light in rio. you can even get these weird asian mixes beause of the japanese population in sao paulo. the sheer diversity of rio women cannot be equaled in asia. (though the black military mixes in angeles city philippines give me some real nice alternatives there). rio is a romantic major metropolitan city. pattaya is not very attractive and pretty unromantic.
given the same amount of money and a choice of both places i would probably go to pattaya. double that available amount of money to go to rio with and well then, i choose rio.
they both have big attractions for me. the prevailing reason i constantly still go to asia is because of my initiation into foreign p4p when visiting thailand. i am much more used to the girls and their shyness etc. there is a level of femininity that cannot be equaled by women outside of asia. that is just the way it is... I totally agree. I have used MagicJack during two trips to Rio. It worked perfectly both times.

Went to Centaurus last night with four of my friends
I have lived in Rio for eight months now , but never yet tried Centaurus, The prices put me off. My four friends are all first time Rio visitors.

(though the black military mixes in angeles city philippines give me some real nice alternatives there). rio is a romantic major metropolitan city. pattaya is not very attractive and pretty unromantic.
given the same amount of money and a choice of both places i would probably go to pattaya. double that available amount of money to go to rio with and well then, i choose rio.

I do not know. I do know that what alerted me originally to the extra entrance charge (dates back to previous pricing levels) for gringos was what I saw on my bill. For example, since I only paid the entrance this time there was a R$100 credit. Actually I paid R$120. It does not matter in terms of charges (it is a washed amount) however it showed me what was collected and what was credited were two different amounts. The R$20 was outside the computer system.
As for the R$400, maybe one of our local Brazilian friends can let us know.

If you must go to Centaurus I'd suggest negotiating at the front door that you will only pay the entrance fee up front (since you are a non-brazilian you will be overcharged for this anyways). Happy you enjoyed 4x4. Termas do exit in other cities in Brazil but not in the same format. For example, in Sao Paulo there are places to go for a massage that involve sex. Very handy for Carnaval Sambodrome and 20yds from 1R a minute and a few hundred yards from Lapa is a hotel off Tiradentes near Carioca station. It's opposite the Ibis hotel (which is also good, girl friendly, but nearer normal prices). The rooms are not that bright or lovely but it was only 40R a night last time I looked. Big old building, it's just called Rio Hotel or something. If you go to Ibis and don't want to pay their rates then this dive will probably have rooms even at this time of year. Two answers to that questions:

I just read your post. I don't quite agree with your conclusion. It really depends on who you choose and where you go in Rio. There are plenty places besides Help where you can find very very nice garotas. Even at Help you can succeed. Anyway, my experience is different from yours. (been here many times) However you are right that very few speak english. I speak some portuguese and that makes a BIG difference. If you can talk and joke with them a little, it will not be a 'fast fuck' as you call it, but more of a girlfriend experience (GFE). Today I visited 4x4 in Centro. Just take the metro to Uruguiana station (a 25 minute ride), and go to Rua Buenos Aires, 44, some 10 minutes away if you walk. Directions you will find on the forum. But perhaps you've already been there.
So I hope you have time to visit other places in Rio, like 4x4. Otherwise your experience will be limited just to Copa. Copa can be good and copa can be pretty bad as well. But maybe Rio is just not your thing. It's possible.

rio, beginners guide and tips for help - copacabana - january 2009
well.....whatever people think about help, it's there and it does have some advantages too. it's a great disco and the atmosphere can be magic at times.
anyway, because this forum is about 'working girls', i thought i create a short list of information and tips for 'beginners' visiting rio for the first time and going to help. it's based on my own experiences and my point of view and some of you may disagree with it or have additional tips. be my guest. most of what i wrote can be found in bits an pieces on this forum or is just plain obvious for the 'experienced' mongers. but still i hope it may be useful to some.
1) help is easy to find at the avenida atlântica in copacabana and there are plenty hotels or apartments close to it. any taxi driver will know it. it opens at 23h00 and closes around 04h00 or 05h00. entrance fee before midnight at this moment (january 2009) is 28 r$ and after midnight 38 r$. most people line up and get in just before midnight.
if you get a hotel, make sure you check beforehand that it is girl-friendly. so you can bring someone, without cost, to your room. most hotels will however require the wg to bring her passport and leave it at the reception. when you rent an apartment, make sure it will have a 24 hour doorman (most of them have this) for security. better safe than sorry.
2)in front of help is a verandah where the working girls (wg's or garotas) start gathering from 22h00 onwards. it's fun to watch the scence and have a drink there. there will be a good many wg's that stay at the verandah and dont even go inisde for dancing. once reason being that some of them don't want to invest the entry fee.
3) taking a girl from the help verandah: typically the girls here will accept lower rates than inside. once it gets late (after 02h00) prices will do down. you may be able to find a wg here that agrees to as little as 100r$ for 1 hour. (you pay the taxi on top of that. may be like 20 r$ to copa/ipanema both ways). more common wg rate is r$ 150-200 for 2 hours. be sure to check the wg well, there are some nasty favela girls there that you may not want inside your apartment/hotel causing trouble.
4) taking a wg from inside help (the disco). prices are a little higher, simply because of the entrance fee and the 'investment' the wg's make in their dresses, clothes, jewelry. you will find favela wg's there, but also 'princesses' that wear expensive clothes and want higher fees. typical requested fee may be r$ 300 for 2 hours. but when it's late, this may come down to 200 r$, but usually not much lower. some of the princesses will start with 500 r$ or more. that's way too much. that would be more than a minimum monthly wage in brazil!. unless you don't care about money or ruining the pricing the rest of us, you should not accept it and negotiate it down towards 300 r$ or less, even if the wg princess looks like a supermodel!
5)scanning a wg: this is a very important part and should not be underestimated, including the agreements you make with her.
6) approaching: there will be wg's that approach you, others that only look at you, and some that 'apparently' ignore you. those may be local girls (none wg's) or princesses that demand very high prices because they think they are special. i prefer the ones that look, but dont try to grab me.(and think i'm an easy target) i observe that particularly 40+ year old gringo's give in to these more aggressive ones to easily. it can be hard resist that young fresh, dancing sexy lady that grabs your hand and takes over. i did it once and regretted it.
7) now step by step the approaching process:
tip1: never rush, take your time and speak with the girl, check the chemistry. of course speaking some (minimal) portuguese will be required. most wg's in rio do not speak english or very very little english. if the girl does not speak english and you do not speak portuguese, it will not make things better. perhaps you don't care and just want 60 minutes of 'fast fun'. but it will mean you miss out on most of, it not all, of the gfe. (girlfriend experience)
tip2: do not go with the wg to her own place. always bring her to a safe place that you know and can trust. (like your hotelroom or apartment) at night: always take a taxi. (dont go walking anywhere at night, and that includes the beach) do not take the taxis parked in front of help (they cost 2-3 times more). take only the onces that happen to pass by on the ave. atlantica and have a meter. (tem metro?, do you have a meter?). if no meter, don't get that taxi. fee to most places in copa or ipanema (starting from help) should be around 8-15 r$, depending on distance.
tip2: if the wg wants to rush it, slow her down and say that you are not in a hurry and want to talk or dance a bit. never let her take too much initiative. you are the customer and the customer is king. she should respect that. just as you should respect that she is a person, has feelings too and wants to be treated well.

well.....whatever people think about help, it's there and it does have some advantages too. it's a great disco and the atmosphere can be magic at times.
anyway, because this forum is about 'working girls', i thought i create a short list of information and tips for 'beginners' visiting rio for the first time and going to help. it's based on my own experiences and my point of view and some of you may disagree with it or have additional tips. be my guest. most of what i wrote can be found in bits an pieces on this forum or is just plain obvious for the 'experienced' mongers. but still i hope it may be useful to some.
1) help is easy to find at the avenida atlântica in copacabana and there are plenty hotels or apartments close to it. any taxi driver will know it. it opens at 23h00 and closes around 04h00 or 05h00. entrance fee before midnight at this moment (january 2009) is 28 r$ and after midnight 38 r$. most people line up and get in just before midnight.
if you get a hotel, make sure you check beforehand that it is girl-friendly. so you can bring someone, without cost, to your room. most hotels will however require the wg to bring her passport and leave it at the reception. when you rent an apartment, make sure it will have a 24 hour doorman (most of them have this) for security. better safe than sorry.
2)in front of help is a verandah where the working girls (wg's or garotas) start gathering from 22h00 onwards. it's fun to watch the scence and have a drink there. there will be a good many wg's that stay at the verandah and dont even go inisde for dancing. once reason being that some of them don't want to invest the entry fee.
3) taking a girl from the help verandah: typically the girls here will accept lower rates than inside. once it gets late (after 02h00) prices will do down. you may be able to find a wg here that agrees to as little as 100r$ for 1 hour. (you pay the taxi on top of that. may be like 20 r$ to copa/ipanema both ways). more common wg rate is r$ 150-200 for 2 hours. be sure to check the wg well, there are some nasty favela girls there that you may not want inside your apartment/hotel causing trouble.
4) taking a wg from inside help (the disco). prices are a little higher, simply because of the entrance fee and the 'investment' the wg's make in their dresses, clothes, jewelry. you will find favela wg's there, but also 'princesses' that wear expensive clothes and want higher fees. typical requested fee may be r$ 300 for 2 hours. but when it's late, this may come down to 200 r$, but usually not much lower. some of the princesses will start with 500 r$ or more. that's way too much. that would be more than a minimum monthly wage in brazil!. unless you don't care about money or ruining the pricing the rest of us, you should not accept it and negotiate it down towards 300 r$ or less, even if the wg princess looks like a supermodel!
5)scanning a wg: this is a very important part and should not be underestimated, including the agreements you make with her.
6) approaching: there will be wg's that approach you, others that only look at you, and some that 'apparently' ignore you. those may be local girls (none wg's) or princesses that demand very high prices because they think they are special. i prefer the ones that look, but dont try to grab me.(and think i'm an easy target) i observe that particularly 40+ year old gringo's give in to these more aggressive ones to easily. it can be hard resist that young fresh, dancing sexy lady that grabs your hand and takes over. i did it once and regretted it.
7) now step by step the approaching process:
tip1: never rush, take your time and speak with the girl, check the chemistry. of course speaking some (minimal) portuguese will be required. most wg's in rio do not speak english or very very little english. if the girl does not speak english and you do not speak portuguese, it will not make things better. perhaps you don't care and just want 60 minutes of 'fast fun'. but it will mean you miss out on most of, it not all, of the gfe.
