Please share detailed information on these $25 per hour places in Paseo Colóand.All those details are on the much maligned CRT. There you can find monger maps of Paseo Colon and other areas. VIPs, Veronicas, Oasis, and others are all in the 25 dollar range. I heard very good reports about two months ago about Oasis, which is right across the street from the Machu Pichu Peruvian restuarant. Decent food, but a bit on the high side (Far better is Soda Peru near Hotel Little Havana). Most of the mid range places, such as those, Karma Sutra and Relax, usually have a few good chicas. Last year Casa Portugeuse on Calle 6 (the place with the Pinapples on the outside) had several great looking girls (and many ugly ones) for 14 bucks each for a half hour. I like to take three for a three girl BBBJ. Good fun!

Walk fifty feet to your left when you go out the side door, and catch a "regular cab." (Problem solved). Pay as you go (as everyone should do any bar of the sort, anywhere in the world- problem solved). Learn to negotiate and how to do a proper interview so you can weed out the sweeties from the sharks (problem solved). The Del Rey is what is is- it take skill to negotiate.
Now, this facination with New Fantasy is curious- the girls are twice as much and no better looking than any of the ten or so mid range places in the Paseo Colon area. The New Fantasy has long been known as a rip off spot, actually. Over priced for the quality- so many other MPs are just as good, for half the money.Your right simply walk 50 ft and catch a regular cab. Only problem is the "Hooker" tells you get into this cab-right by the door-and most guys do-especially new guys I don't know how recently you been to the Del Rey but like I said I seen bartenders and hookers work together to rip guys off.
Concerning New Fantasy-I like the place 35US for a half hour-and it always is and half hour-I admit I have a favorite there-She does a BBBJ and CIM twice in the half hour- She is all mouth-I think thats worth it-I also visit the other places and like them as well.

18, 000 colones per hour is not half of 50 dollars (what they charge for an hour at New Fantasy) ; it is approximately 3/4 of 50 dollars. But I will check some of those places out next year.

But I will check some of those places out next year.I am pretty sure that some of the places on the Paseo Colon area still charge 30 bucks, so yes, that is 60, not half. And yes, you should check them out- I think you will find the quality of the chicas in on par with New Fantasy, and with usually far less upsell for services. Plus, these tend to have a lot of "newer" chicas, and over the years, I (and freinds) have had good luck getting them TLN afterwork. For some of the places that don't get high volumn, this works out pretty well.

Del Ray is best in the afternoon. Usually a good selection and more less aggressive pros. They are also in the $60 range and generally have better attitudes and experiences. At night, IMHO, it turns into the equivalent of New Year's Eve for amateur drinkers. Drunk first time Americans like kids in a candy store. Generally speaking the girls are more hard core, worst attitudes, more chance of rip offs as mentioned by others, etc. I spent many nights there and later the luster wore off as I realized that even when I took back the hottest woman in the place and had sex with her, any swinging dick with a $100 bill in his pocket could have done the same thing. IMHO, there are better places and leave Del Ray to the amateurs.
No experienced CR monger stays at the Del Rey. BTW a gratuity is automatically included in the price of the drink if you look at your tab. Tipping an extra 20% or more is the sign of an drunk amateur unless your service has been outstanding, which is rare in that place. If you think it will win you favor to get in her pants, then let me invite you to join me and my friends at the poker table. We need guys like you.
Key Largo has always been a good hunting ground at night. Less hard core, but they can still be there. More laid back place. Prices slightly less than Del Rey.
I have stayed at Sportsman's Lodge many times. Great hotel and staff. Can't say the bar service is the sharpest, but they are adequate. They would rather all chat with each other than tend bar, but after all, it is Costa Rica and nothing happens quickly. For the first years they were open, the girls were awesome. Many were attractive, but maybe a couple of years too old or too regular to be prime meat at Del Rey. Their prices were reasonable. $40-60. Now they are about the same as Del Rey without the quality. The past year SL has been downgraded from * to * on my scale. Still a great place to stay and great place for watching college and pro football. But then again, what the hell do I know?
All of the second tier massage places mentioned and reviewed were spot on. Calle 6 always has a gem in the rough, but it takes multiple trips to find them. The women there may only be there for an hour or two. Enough for grocery money to hit the Mercado, and then home to the husband and kids. I recommend checking back 2-3 times per day if your schedule allows. It will be an entirely new cast. On weekends, it gets crowded with Ticos in the afternoon. BE CAREFUL of pickpockets as you move through the Ticos to get a better look. I keep my hand in my pocket on my money and you should also.
I will be there this weekend, staying at HLH. Currently my favorite. Decent hotel, great monger friendly staff, reasonably priced and looking ladies, quiet location, great bar that reminds me of the old Park Hotel. Hell, some of the same gringos are there!
One more find last time. Not really for women but for a fun place to get a beer with old fart American ex-pats who can be a blast to yap with while on a hunting break. If you are walking from Morazon Park toward the Presidente, about a half block after the corner of the Presidente, there is a bar on the left that many of the ex-pats and some of the ladies that used to be at the now closed New York bar hang out at.

Great post Snook. I like the DR for one reason, It allows HLH to stay low key. I go to the DR to just see the big show. But I love the HLH to play in.

The girls at the SL are freelancers- what you negotiate is what you get.
Both are a ton of fun. I have enjoyed staying both. Personally, prefer the neighborhood at the Sportsman's (although they are only four blocks or so away).

But SL is in a more upscaled residential neighborhood.I stayed in a private condo in the Otoya section adjacent to SL there is a police substaion nearby. Very quiet at night.
HLH is a great place but location not really great for the night-But there is always cabs which is a best bet anyway at night in San Jose during the night.

If you want a cheap hotel Hemmingway Inn is down the street from SL, between SL and HLH. 30$ a night for rooms including breakfast, very modest rooms but works well enough. No chica fees, at least I wasn't charged any. Nice staff.
Sorry couldn't get back to you sooner, Canyon. Others have answered your question, but for my two cents. I really would not call either SL or HLH upscale. Like debating which is nicer, a Days Inn or Best Western. I agree that SL is more like a frat bar where HLH is more laid back. Bar service is a wash. About even. Personally, I think the food is better at HLH, but that is personal choice. The girls at SL are much more aggressive than HLH, which at least for me is a big plus to HLH. Sometimes I want to sit at the bar and watch a game with a beer. If I want to talk with a chick, I will invite her over. Just becase I am sitting alone does not mean that I want company. Perhaps I want to be alone and watch the game! Both owners are great guys, but I have to say that Boyd is the cat's ass. A truly awesome, nice, helpful, and great guy.
I do have to disagree with the previous poster about the girls to a degree. Yes, the girls at the SL are freelancers, just like the Del Rey. They really don't have to anwer to the management for much, except not to steal shit. They want the same $$$ as Del Rey girls for less quality, generally speaking. I won't pay $ for a Del Rey hottie, much less an above average chick at SL. Yes, you get what you negotiate for, at least initially. That still has no bearing on whether or not it is a great, good, or bad time. Without doubt, we pay more at SL for the same at HLH. Sure they will negotiate down, I am not a rookie at this, but it has been my experience in these freelance situations that the better you negotiate down financially, the more they downgrade their service. Generally speaking.
The difference to me is this. At Del Rey or SL. What I negotiate is what I pay. It can be a GFE or as mechanical as an inflatable love doll, their incentive is less to rock your world. At HLH, the girls do the basics for $35 and hour. And many do them with a lot of gusto. But any real monger that appreciates that effort recognizes that they appreciate tips for a great time. If it is an average session, then everyone is happy at $35. Reality is that most of the time, the sessions are better than average, and I GIVE the girl more accordingly. Last session I had Saturday night was nothing short of world class. Thank you Boyd for the recommendation.
Bottom line is this. You will have fun at either place, hell. Almost anywhere you go in Costa Rica. Even the worst time you have in Costa Rica beats a good day at the office. But then again, what the hell do I know?

Good post Snook, I agree with most of what you said. The SL is like a frat house. The talent there is in IMHO is about 2 steps below what you would find at the Del Rey on a typical night. As you noted they quote similar prices so to me the SL is only a good place to hang out and have a few drinks with friends or to watch a sporting event. The food at the SL is mediocre and the service is slow. The free breakfast consist mainly of toast, donuts or other pastry's and a limited amount of fruit. If you want eggs and stuff you order like any other restaurant. The rooms in the courtyard section of the hotel are average. The premium rooms are nicer and much quieter but go for $100 and up per night.
As you mentioned the prices at the HLH are set. However the $35 fee you quote is for hotel guest only. The regular price is about $50. However the chicas all want propinas for extra services like BBBJ ect. At the end of the day if you not a hotel guest you are spending around $70 for a session. I agree about the food at the HLH. There lunch / sandwich selections are good. I also agree about Boyd he is a real good guy.
For me I usually wind up at the Del Rey, pay about $60-$70 for a daytime session and $80 for a nighttime session. BTW: There is a sports bar called Chubbs which is on the same street as the Delrey which has decent food and you can watch a lot of different games on TV.

Respectfully disagree about SL's free breakfast. Also includes juice and yogurt. Don't know why you say "limited" fruit because if it's gone, you only need to ask and they will put out more. It hasn't been my personal experience that the food service is slow, although the bartenders are mostly pretty lazy. Nice, but lazy.

SnookTotally untrue if you negotiate in incentives. I will give you 80 for two hours, and if the sex is amazing (you specify what this means to you) I will give you a tip. This helps clock watchers and matress bags self select out. Of course, command of Spanish is needed for most.

What do you think?The short answer to your question is YES. However many of us would probably recommend against it. I generally won't keep a girl all night until I have been with her a few times. The problem with keeping them all night or all weekend is that you barely know them and you might not be compatible. It's one thing to get along for an hour it is another for 24-48 hours.
In terms of cost you can look to be quoted anywhere from $150-$300 for a TLN. Your actual price will vary depending on the girl and your negotiating skills.
Also keep in mind there are plenty of girls who will negotiate for all night and then develop little emergencies that cause them to leave early and expect full payment. Therefore when negotiating make it clear how long you want them to stay for and how much you will pay.

Why is this important? It's your trip, do your thing. I try to stick to 2 / day when mongering in other countries, I live in CR so I only go for putas here 1. 3 times per month because honestly it gets boring.

ChrisThere is no set norm. I have gone 8-10 times a day with normal girlfriends although come only twice. With viagra you can fuck many times a day especially if the girl is staying with you. Many girls are willing to go many times if they are horny.
With bargirls sessions are limited. Usually two to three if LT.
I have done 5 girls one day, all ST. Usually very horny first day of landing but slow down afterwards.

I am considering a trip to San Jose for about 4 or 5 days but have a few questions before I go. So hopefully some of the seasoned veterans can provide some input.
1. Where do I stay? I want to be near the del rey without having to deal with the hassle of paying every time I bring a girl to my room. Even though I heard the del Rey will protect you if there is an incident. The hotels I am considering are the sportsmans lodge, hotel little Havana and hotel almsted. Let's also add the del rey to this list. Out of all these hotels which would be the best for a first timer and what are the pro's and con's of these hotels?
2. What is the best time of year to visit? I definately want to avoid rainy season. I also heard that some holidays I need to avoid are around Easter season since not many chicas are around and some bars may be closed. I want to come when there is good weather to see if I can find some tours to do during the day since I am an outdoory's type of person.
3. Places to meet chicas? I read that most of the hotel bars and del Rey casino is a good start but there are also places like new fantasy around. Are these places hard to find? Are the chicas aggressive with you once they know you are a tourist and what you are looking for? I have been to Dominican republic several times so I know how it works down there. Is cr similar? I heard the talent is better but you pay more. In dr you pay everything in peso is it the same in cr with paying in Costa rica dollars?
Last but not least the flights I am looking at arrive around 10 pm at night. Is there anything I need to be aware of arriving that late at night? Is it safe?

1) Do not stay at Del Rey, the rooms are shitty and over priced, not to mention you already know about the chica fee to go upstairs with one. La Amistad is nice, some people have issues with the train waking them up in the morning though. There is also the Dunn Inn and places like Hemingway and Freebird which are chica friendly as well.
2) In my honest opinion, rain season isn't all that bad until September. November. Unless you plan on doing activities outside of mongering, rain season should have very little effect on any of your plans. Avoid Easter and Christmas / New Years.
3) Not sure who told you most of the hotel bars but you have 3 options for hotels with chicas there. Hotel Little Havana is a massage parlor with a bar and hotel. Sportsmans Lodge has chicas until midnight when the bar closes. Del Rey has at least a few 24/7.
Pay in colones for everything unless you do decide to go to New Fantasy, take dollars there. Expect to work harder to find a less mechanical girl but in my eyes she's likely to be better looking compared to girls in the DR.
I prefer to enter CR at night because I can get out of the airport within 5 minutes, however I live here and know the ropes. You're going to run into the airport taxi guys before you go outside and deal with pirate taxis and what not so if you really are uncomfortable with the idea of getting in at night, just take one of the airport taxi guys versus finding a cheaper ride outside.

Thanks for your report. Sleep in guest fee is beyond ridiculous. Nice hotel, but clearly they don't want us there. Funny thing is it's literally right next to the Del Rey. Actually, I didn't make any comparisons. To reiterate what everyone else is saying, YES you can bring in girls from anywhere to the Sportsmans Lodge. However, at the very least make sure she has government identification (cedula). Recently, the Sportsmans was issuing Sportsman's Identification cards to the girls with their name and personal Identification number on them for girls who come in on their own, but as long is she is accompanied by a SL guest she will be let in if she has gov't Identification. To be sure, if you are at the Del Rey confirm they have Identification before agreeing to go back to the room.

I like to do cultural things when I'm abroad, so I plan to see a performance at the National Theatre (Teatro Nacional) while I'm there and also visit the Museo Nacional. There were also reviews of the Universidad de Costa Rica that said it was the best university in the country. It said it was beautiful and had lots of green space and there were lots of cafes and restaurants around. I plan to visit the university and see if I can meet any students.

I just got backfrom another nine day trip here.
This is the first time that I arrived at night (8:30 pm. Local). Had a friend who used to be a hotel taxi pick me up for $23, even though gas and diesel are out of sight.
HOTEL: I know that a lot of guys don't the morazan, or Ricardo at the door, but I have been staying for years, and prefer it over DR prices. I get the impression that about 25% of Morazon rooms are unrentable for various reasons, but I manage to get a good one for the price and guests are free. The hotel was practically empty until Memorial weekend. I did have to change mattress this time. Sleeping the first Monday night was like sleeping in a canoe, all sagging in the middle smile). It came with free breakfast. Which is so-so, and the lucnh buffet for 2, 900c is okay, but not something you you'd want every day.
DR: I found that Monday and Tuesday afternoons and early evenings were dead both weeks there. On Tuesday afternoon, May 22nd, there were only eight to pick from, so I just had a drink and read Tico Times. On Wedsnesdays forward, there was much more action. With economy becoming more depressed, food and shopping prices seemed higher, but my DR choices were negotiated at $50-$60. For a 7 or 8, it was worth it. My bud and I had a real hard time fighting off the old guard from years past, and one night an unknown drunk fugly one camped out at my table and would leave, so. I left her. I did not go to NF, since fishing was so good at DR.
I met my bud from Texas there, and he told me an interesting story. Around May 29th, two nice looking blondes (exchange students or researchers walked into DR from Hotel Europa to observe the activity, and asked him several questions about what was going on and how it works. He explained in detail and said that they seemed quite interested. I may be paranoid, but I suggested that with all of the attention Columbia, that they may have been research reporters looking at other Latin American countries, since that SS story is dying out. He didn't seem to concerned, but only say better him than me.
FOOD: I didn't get to La Princesa Marina this time. Other than Morazon, and DR Del Mar, there is a buffet in the food court 1/2 from DR and that was good. Reasonable and cooked fish fillet to order. I stopped having the Del Mar chicken soup, even tough it is the best that I've had. They now give a cup, instead a bowl, and still charge the same. I mentioned to Gabby and she only said that she had heard it before. Oh well. They do have a great Rancheros Heuvas, which tried this time. They are best when prepared in the afternoon by the primary chef.
Airport Taxi: If anyone wants to use the guy that I mentioned, then send me a PM, and I'll get his email address to you. He is going to $25 bucks now, is definitely trustworthy. I first met him six years ago when he was working for Morazon. Angie did the room check out and I walked away, leaving my credit card. She sent him after me. I don't know how he did it, but he got to airport and caught me walking from departure tax to airport checkin. I didn't recognize him, and he waved my credit card. I tipped him $20. Because he could have gone shopping, told Angie that he gave it to someone who looked like me, etc.
Finally, on Tuesday, May 29th around mid-day, there was a mild tremor that lasted about 15-20 seconds. We were having lunch at Morazon, and I asked about it. The waiter said, it's just a big bus. My bud said, it must be on the roof.

I have been to Tamarindo, Flamingo, Jaco, Manuel Antonio, Arenal and a couple of other places. Obviously it is better to go to any of these places when it's not rainy season. All of these places are nice and offer beautiful views of Costa Rica's scenery. Just keep in mind that in all likelihood you will encounter rain from now until late November or early December. When I go I have always rented a car a went with a chica. I have never traveled on the bus or paid for a tour so I cannot comment on the cost.
As far as sitting in a hotel room without a window, I don't understand the comment. There are a number of venues to hang out in in San Jose. I rarely just sit in my hotel rooms and look at the walls. For more information on other venues just scroll thru this section and you will get the info you are seeking.

A few years ago I was down close to this timeframe, and the trips were good, despite some weather issues. You can sign up for tours in the lobby of the HDR, if the weather is so bad, they tell you it's cancelled, and you can get a refund. One day I signed up for a river rafting tour, the tour bus came by and picked us up and we made the drive to the launch point, but the rain had caused the water levels to rise too high for the safety risk, so they canceled and we all loaded back on the bus and headed back to the office of the tour company. We all got our payments refunded. I will say that I did tip the tour guides because they were informative and interesting during the ride, you weren't just sitting on your butt bored, the fact that they had our safety in mind rather than just profits at our expense was reassuring. Overall, I would say that it could be hit and miss based on the rain, but it is worth the signing up for tours.

I agree there are several good day trips from San Jose. Volcano tours, sport fishing, zip lining or surfing or relaxing at the beach. Jaco and Playa Hermosa beaches are easy to reach from San Jose.
Also here's a couple of ways to save a little money especially from the ever present, always irritating gringo tax. You can book these tours through your hotel and it's easy curb to curb service but you will always pay more. Just like the taxis parked in front of most hotels always charge you more but you can walk 5 more feet to the street and catch the first passing taxi (they're everywhere) and you will save money because the hotel or taxi syndicate doesn't get a kickback from a passing taxi on the street. Just the same, there are many travel day tour agencies where you can get or negotiate a better deal, if you're so inclined.
If you're interested in the beach area that's easy to reach you can head to Jaco or much nicer beach a few more minutes south, Playa Hermosa. Of course you can use an expensive shuttle or you can check on the bus schedule and pay about 10x less. Last year a couple friends and I took the bus from San Jose to the Cartago area and it was not bad bus ride at all just make sure you catch the right bus as some are direct and some make many stops. Two years ago a friend and I decided to take a taxi from Barrio Amon in San Jose to Jaco and the first taxi we hailed asked for $100 (one way) and we said no way. 1 minute later we asked another taxi driver and he said $90. $100 and we said no. 2 minutes later we stopped a 3rd taxi and we offered $50 one way to Jaco and he accepted. When we arrived in Jaco we negotiated EVERYTHING: my friend rented a scooter and I went surfing, later we both went zip lining. When we were ready to head back to San Jose we walked up to a taxi and offered $50 and he agreed but then he says no $100 so we say no thanks. We then walk ten more feet to the next cab driver and offer him $50 and he agrees, but now the first guy is willing to take $50 again, LOL, sorry no deal. The second taxi guy was such a friendly & cool guy we gave him $65. Bottom line there are lots of day tours from San Jose and virtually everything in Costa Rica and every latin american country I've ever visited is negotiable. Even some of the hotels will give you a good discount if you pay cash upfront. Hope this helps, good luck.

Sometimes it clears up quickly. Visiting Arenal it is better to stay there atleast one night. Nice diversion is the hot springs sulphur bath.
Sometimes it maybe raining at San Jose but no rain outside.

Rain season isn't much of an issue until September. November, it is rather mild until then. It doesn't rain on days very regularly right now.

Hate to give a bad report on my first posting in awhile. Just got done with a session from "Valarie" from HDR. She is tall and very cute with long brunette hair and braces. I have been down during that timeframe before, and had a great time in the days before the holidays in San Jose, at the HDR, but left to the coast just before each of the holidays to be at the beach. From what I heard from guys who were there on the holidays after I got back, that it was not very active.
Frankly, it seems many of the hotter girls who work there from other countries like Colombia or Venezuela, if they fly there to work before the holidays for extra cash, they will likely leave to be home for Christmas.
Have fun if you go, try to add on a visit to the beaches if you have time.

You didn't specify if you had a budget for flying, which would reduce time traveling. I haven't been as far south along the coast to Manuel Antonio, but there are several good spots south of there, If you are down in that area already, I hear that Pavones is a good spot, but you would be better off flying back to San Jose from way down there. In the past I have been to the northern areas, Tamarindo and spots down along the Nicoya Peninsula.

In December, the scene is very much alive, but Costa Ricans get their mandatory Christmas bonus. They call it the 13th month. Which means every tico in town is out trying to get rid of it as soon as he can. The night spots are bull of guys pissing money away like gringos.
Which means there's much more competition.

I'd seen Carla in the Pirate Club a few times with her sister. Both have long thin bodies, and both have a look that tells you they're nasty in the sack. No mater what the figure, it's all disposable income and it gets disposed of in a week or two. There are lines in every restaurant, and all the girls are off spending time with their tico boyfriends. Only the dregs will be left, and they won't want to be there.
The economy in Costa Rica is also pretty good when you exclude broke gringos with their failed development and tourism projects. There are 30 USA companies with operations in the free trade zone. It's definitely not the country it was ten years ago.
Latin America, however is perhaps the most inequitable region in the world. You have to love those Nicas and broke barrio chicas who know how to hustle for the Gallo pinto. I think more than a few of the lovelier ones have come through the Pirate Club.
At the risk of stating the obvious, the HDR has chicas 24/7 as some women prefer day shifts and some prefer nights. There's no question it's busier and has more variety and talent at night (beginning around 9:30 to 10pm) and it's definitely busier on the weekend type nights of Thursday through Saturday.
Del Rey might have some more women on the weekend, the massage parlors I feel tend to be the same.

VsThe girls have a tenancy to show up when they believe they can make more money, which is normally the weekends. There is a dynamic between the Del rey and the Key largo with the girls migrating into the Key largo as the Del Rey fills up. Normally this happens around 10-11pm with greater numbers on the weekend. The traffic starts to fall around 12am-1am because the Key Largo closes at 2am, unless it's very busy and stays open a little later.
After happy hour ends at HLH (7pm) the crowds disappears, and it can be pretty quiet by 8:30. The Pirate Club peaks later in the evening, especially on weekends. The rest of the daytime places quickly fall off between 5-7pm.
The two for one drink special at HLH during happy hour (5-7pm) is unmatched in the rest of San Jose. No one expect HLH is giving away, for example 2 beers (Imperial or Pilsen) for $3 like HLH. Many of the locals are interested in the "raffle" that takes places at 7pm. You have to be there earlier, during happy hour to get a ticket. I recommend coming earlier if you want one of the girls, because they get less traffic before 5pm.

ThanksThere will be taxi drivers at the airport exit. It's a unionized situation so the prices are standardized and they will have on identifiable uniforms. They know what time the planes come in. They will ask if you need a cab when they see you walking by. You can take one to whatever hotel you chose. There are other options but that is probably your easiest, unless you prearrange a pickup with your hotel or whoever.

Anyone coming for Halloween this year?
Halloween parties in San Jose, Costa Rica will be on Saturday, October 27th. The article says the Del Rey Hotel and Sportsmens Lodge are fully booked and lists a few hotels that still have rooms. There is also a video of the girls dressed up from a previous year.

/Strip clubs are expensive. They cater to the 1% of locals and the expense account businessman looking to impress a client. Casas that cater to locals. With the exception of Idem and Relax. Are in dangerous neighborhoods. I'd go to HDR. /

1). Colones are used most often for drinks and gambling, although you can gamble in USD. The Chicas take Colones or USD, most people I think tend to pay in USD.
2). Not sure, never been to HLH.
3). Money can be exchanged at the airport or banks. What I tend to do is bring about $100 that I convert into Colones at the airport. Then I take out about 200, 000 colones from the ATM. I keep my USD for paying chicas and use the Colones for drinks. I am sure you can exchange money at any bank, and there are a lot of "Casas de Cambio" which are money changing places. Just be aware of the rates, I think its about 490:1 Colones:USD last I was there.
4). Not sure on the strip clubs, I went to one that was across from club Vertigo, it was ok. I heard Pantera Rosa has good strippers. Also, for a good bar go to Sportsman's Lodge, good people, lots of sports, some fine ass chicas. One from Colombia when I was there that made my jaw drop!

At the moment the best strip clubs are Nicole Josephine's, Le Grillion and Pantera Rosa. In each one you can have sex for under $50, but avoid buying the girl drinks at $10 each. Nicole used to charge $200 for sex, but came down a few months ago witha change in management. Le Grillion and Pantera Rosa always has a nice lineup of talent, but beware the $200 suite at Pantera Rosa. They also so it for $40, but when an uninformed tourist with no Spanish ability asks, they usually try to get the $200 instead of $40.

I've heard a lot of reports about how things have changed in CR and it isn't what it once was. I haven't been there for 4 years so I had a slight concern. I didn't see much of a difference though. I had a blast and noticed no difference in quality or pricing. There were slow nights and busy nights like always. Suprisingly Del Rey had a slow Saturday when I was there but the Friday was great. I'm thinking it had something to do with the weather. But just like any night club in the US one night might be insanely great and the next eh not so much. HLH was still good, I do believe it was better in the zona blue days. But I just think I got ok girls for sex. I got more lucky in the past I guess. Next trip I will hit up Jaco since I am told there is a highway that you can get there in 45 min now. I think Costa Rica offers something for everyone, if it wasn't for the tacos in mexico I would still give Costa Rica the best place for a monger to go. I have fun in the DR but still don't think it is as good as CR. Although I like the ability to go to a place all day long for a girl and DR is more of a night time thing. I enjoyed meeting a couple guys from ISG although we didn't really meet through the website they just happen to be casual posters.

This was a few years ago, so I do not know the price of the Motel we stayed in.
Be sure to go to the Hot Springs when you are there.
There is a big lake there, if you want to boating or even horse back riding.

Also, it being quite active, you might have to view it only from a distance. If you wanted a Volcano to do in a day trip from San Jose, Poas or Irazu would be good choices. You can ask around locally to see if one or the other is providing better viewing conditions and if local tour companies recommend one over the other. They are on opposite sides of San Jose - each is about 40-50 miles away from the city

Thank you everyone for your responses. I was really debating about going to SJ in September (rainy season) but finally pulled the trigger. Will be going September 20th-25th. I was looking at the hotels and emailed SL about their availability. I do have a question though. Just checked booking. Com and saw that Heminway Inn was only $175 for the 5 nights I a, there. I have RTTF and saw that it got positive reviews and that it is chica friendly. My question is, FOr that price it is supposed to be for single occupancey. Will they charge me a fee to bring a chica back?
Also, as a first timer to CR, any advise would be greatly appreciated. I will be mongering solo for the first time so if there are any experienced mongers going to be in SJ those dates, I will be happy to buy the first round!

Ok guys, I have intel for any of our follow travelers. I am here now until 9/9/12. I have been staying at the del ho rey hotel. I first visited Sala Criss. It is on the south side of town. Here there were primarly Nica's about 5 girls altogther. They were OK looking a little slim for me. You can get your nuts drained & Massage or 12, 000 colones for a half hour or 16, 000 for a full hour. Take the full hour. Most of the girls at this massage parlor have either training or are very good at giving massages. Drain your nuts first and get a massage after, it is worth it here. I visited the New Fantasy yesterday. I had about 10 girls to choose from however they wanted 25, 000 colones or $50 to you and me for 1 hour. I visted Muses which is close to New Fantasy. I was OK to drain your nuts. The prices are the same as Sala Criss. The looks are about the same as well. They are not know for massages. I recommend to opt for 1/2 hour if you do not want to go to the south side at Sala Criss. I also visted The Jet Set 70E. I did see thicker Domicians & a few Ticas. All were attractive if you like thicker women. I did not get the price or trick with any of the girls because I saw a girl I used to fuck with about four years ago. First and foremost, I want to thank all of you for ALL your useful information! I have read pages and pages here and think I have a good idea of where I will be staying (btwn HLH or SL) and where I will be visiting. I will be visiting SJ for the very first time in November and I do have a few questions:
1) Does you use colons everywhere in the country? Thought I read that somewhere (with the exception of New Fantasy?) I ask because I see USD quoted on all the websites and even when you guys speak of, say HLH, and that it cost $35 for a chica, are you guys just converting the colon to USD? Same with the paying the hotels?
2) Someone mentioned that at HLH, there is a special that if you pay 4 nights, you get the 5th free. Is this true? And as a first timer, should I call and ask for this when I make the reservation?
3) Where should I go for money exchange. Usually the airports are the worst places in every country. Are there many banks and / or money exchange kiosks thoughout downtown?
4) Aside from the casas, HDR bar, Pirate Club, where else can I go at night for drinks and to look for Chicas? I guess my question is, are there any worth while stripclubs or anything similar to Pirate Club to go at night?
Thanks in advance!1. You can use dollars just about everywhere in the gulch and if you never leave that area there really is no need to exchange your money. Many places when giving you change will often give you a mix of colones and dollars or just straight colones as change. Often this is good as most places just use the 500 to 1 exchange rate where as money exchanges may only be 490 to 1. The only place that you will need colones is the low end MP. However last weekend I went to jetset only had dollars and they went and got change for me.
2. Yes this is true at least it was true for me the last time I stayed there, mention this when you are booking your reservation.
3. As mention in 1. You really don't need to change your money when paying for things with dollars you often get a mix back or just straight colones back. The HLH will exchange small amounts of money for you at the 500 to 1 rate the Del Ray usually exchanges at 490 to 1.
4. Besides the pirates club there are two other strip joints I hit everytime I go to SJ they are the Le Grillion and the Arcadas both are within walking distance of one another and both don't really get going until after midnight. I believe the door charge is $10 USA and you get two drinks prices are around $35 to $40 for 20 minutes to a half hour with a striper up stairs. I have found hotties in both places and had good sex from the women in both places.

Shop around to make sure you are not getting ripped off. Most taxis are using the meters from the airport these days and the cost ranges from $30-$40 depending on traffic. Exit through immigration and baggage claim and go across the street and up the stairs to departures level (where you can also exchange money at the Bank of Costa Rica and get the highest rate). Try to make a deal with a taxi that just dropped someone off. $25-$30 flat fee is a reasonable offer. All Independant chicas will take US dollars. Use colones for food and drink bills and MPs and strip clubs. Have a great time.

was there for a week. stayed at hlh. really great staff. good room atleast mine. i also got a discount as i stayed for 7 nights. wifi sometimes wouldn't work but thats was not a major problem. good housekeeper and i piad her a little tip for cleaning my room twice a day with new towels and soap.
hlh has a locker in the room too.
the only problem i found was girls were of low quality but certainly had good attitude. you can discount if you stay at hlh. 25 bucks for girl with 10 dollars additional bar fee and may be 5-10 dollars tip for the girl.

I also agree with your suggestion to avoid taxis whenever possible and walk, at least during the day time. Re Bar Idem, it is indeed a bit overpriced, but I have had amazing luck there over the years. Two of my ATFs were Idem ladies, and I was able to repeatedly hook up with them at my hotel once we got to know each other. It generally boasts a pretty hot lineup, but this is not always apparent if you visit at the wrong time and the hotties are busy. Took Funman13 down to San Jose over Labor Day weekend for his first time.
Airport:
The airport in San Jose is small and easy to navigate, once you exit the plane follow the crowd to customs and immigrating. Both customs and immigration are relatively easy to get through. Both Funman13 and I had breakfast at the united lounge before we left and we both took a couple of bananas with us in our bag. My bags went through the ex ray ok but they stopped funman13 bag and took the bananas out and through them away (is that a banana in your bag or are you just happy to be here) I guess you can't take fruit into the country.
When leaving the process is also pretty painless it's a small airport and there's never that long of a wait. There is a $28 departure tax USA that you have to pay when you leave.
Once you exit the airport you will find many taxi drivers offering to give you a ride. I was staying at the Hotel Little Havana and the cost is $28 one way. Many have said you can go up stairs to arrivals and catch a cab that has just dropped some one off and offer them $20 for the ride.
One problem I have had with cabbies in San Jose is that only a hand full of them speaks English and many do not know where things are. Many cabbies may not know where the Little Havana is or the Sportsman Lodge.
The drive from the airport to gringo gulch where the Del Ray, Sportsman and HLH are located is about a 20 minute ride.
San Jose:
The whole place reminds me of a rat maze its dirty in my opinion, but most big cities are. There are no street signs anywhere and I don't believe there are postal numbers, I have no idea how the mail gets delivered down there. Rather than street signs cabbies seem to know locations by major buildings or other objects. During the day time the streets are filled with people but as soon as it becomes sun down the streets become empty and all of the shops are shuttered up. The city itself is in the hills so you can look out and see the mountains and the lights in the mountains at night.
Gringo Gulch:
This is the main mongering location, this is where you will find the Del Ray which is ground zero for mongering, The Sportsman's Lodge, and The Hotel Little Havana you will also find many Massage Parlors in the area.
Hotel Little Havana:
I have stayed at this place on all of my trips to SJ thus far. I have always stayed here for three reasons, one the sportsman is always booked every time I try to get in there, two when I looked into the Del Ray they were quoting me $100 a night for a standard room plus $11 every time you take a chica up, and three I think the HLH is in a central location its between the Sportsman, Del Ray, New Fantasy MP and Krysys MP. Its also quite and a place you can go and retreat when you need to recharge your batteries.
I have always booked the basic single which has always been a pretty nice room and good enough for what I want it for. Safe in the room air-conditioning and the room I had this time had a glass shower so I could watch the chicas shower before the session. The wifi in my room worked good but Funman13 who was right next door to me could not get access to the internet from his room.
The chicas at the HLH range from a 4 or 5 to a few 8. The bar is in the back of the hotel and closes at 10 Pm so noise has never been a problem. The chicas sit on the bench against the wall and don't approach you unless you approach them. If you are staying at the HLH the rate is $35 for the hour if you are not staying I believe its $50 for the half hour, but I am not sure on this it may be a few dollars more or less.
On my first stay at the HLH the services were good and no one asked for or expected a tip. I have slowly watched this change over my stays there, now a 10 to 20 tip is expected many for just the sex for others it's expected for DATY and BBBJ. One even wanted $30 tip for BBBJ. The market has really been hurt by guys giving tips for what should be standard service.
Del Ray:
This place is monger central. If you exit the HLH turn to your left go to the end of the block and turn to your left again. It's a very short walk and on your right you will see a street, there is a juice bar on the corner, turn to your right and go down this street. At the end of the block you will see the Holiday Inn on your left, they have a travel agency on the ground floor in the front of the hotel. Across the street from you will be the park and if you look kitty corner to your left on the other side of the park will see the Del Ray it is a tall pink building that you cannot miss, at night there is a red neon light that says Del Ray on it.
Be careful of traffic they drive like crazy down there. During the day time this is a safe walk accept for the crazy drivers. They say not to make this walk at night or to cross the park at night. I am not recommending this but I made the walk at all hours of the day and night by myself and never had a problem. Many times at 2, 3, and even 4 O'clock in the morning I would make the walk between the HLH and the Del Ray by myself and felt perfectly safe. There are trannys who come out at night and will be in the park and along the walk to the Del Ray and even along the walk to the Sportsman, they even stand across the street from the HLH sometimes. I never had any problems with them. At first when I seen them I would cross and walk on the other side of the street but soon I just walked right by them and they never really bothered me (I must be too old and ugly for them).
The Del Ray will have women in it 24 hours a day naturally the peak hours are early afternoon and evening but no matter what time of day or night you will be able to find a girl at the Del Ray. The women there can range from super hot to super not. With everything in between, but the majority of women are very attractive. They all start out asking for $100 for the hour but I never paid this I always countered with $50 and then we would both settle for $80 some would go for $60 late at night and in the early afternoon it's much easier to get one for $60. Every girl I had did DATY and BBBJ. I always interviewed every girl I took first to find a price and services I would agree to. Some there won't budge off of $100 and won't do BBBJ or DATY. I never took any of these girls, the only girls I took were ones that would go for $80 or less and would do DATY and BBBJ and I would say that these women were very attractive. I always go for the hottest women I see in the place find out if she will go for $80 or less and do the things that I like, if so we have a date if not then I move on to the one I think is the next hottest and see if she will give the correct answer to all of my questions. Many of these girls were going for $60 but wanted an extra $20 for DATY and BBBJ, only twice did I pay a full cien for a chica and that is because both times the chicas were offering up their culo to me for an $20 or $40 propina above the regular rate. Cien is my ceiling I never pay above that and do everything I can to pay less than that. Only if I find the girl exceptionally beautiful and she is willing to go the extra mile like offering the culo will I pay the full cien.
Across the street from the Del Ray you will find the Del Mar restaurant which is nice but a little pricey in my opinion. Many of the chicas will go in there from time to time to eat and you can also pick them up in there when they are there. Next to the restaurant is the Key Largo which is open from 11 pm until 3 am here you will find dance music salsa music and at night the girls walk back and forth from the Del Ray to the Key Largo. On the other side of the street from the Del Ray I noticed a new fast food restaurant I don't know what the hours are or what the prices are but it may be low cost alternative to eat.
The Del Ray Hotel is a bit pricy pricey in my opinion, I inquired into staying there and I was quoted $100 a night for a basic single. I have heard others say they have gotten it for less. It may depend upon how large your party is and how many rooms you are booking or how long your stay is or even the time of year. There is also an $11 fee every time you take a chica up even if you are staying there. I have been told there is a low cost hotel next door that rents rooms by the hour if you want to take a chica there but I have never used it. There are hucksters and hawksters and beggars outside of the Del Ray selling everything from Viagra to CD to Cigars you name it. I have never bought anything from these people so I have no idea what the quality is.
The cabbies who park right outside of the Del Ray will offer to give you a ride when you exit, these guys charge $4 bucks for a ride back to HLH but if you stop a cab that is driving by it will only be $2 bucks. I always do this though sometimes the cabbies driving by don't know where the HLH is and I have to give them directions. I know it's only a couple dollars difference but in my opinion stopping a cabbie driving by rather than taking one that is sitting in front of the Del Ray is a signal to the girl that you're not a newbe and that you know the score in gringo gulch and she won't be able to pull anything over on you.
Sportsman's Lodge:
The sportsman's lodge in many ways reminds me of a miniature Del Ray. There are free lance chicas hanging around the bar and the whole process works just like the Del Ray mentioned above, They start out asking for $100 for the hour and I always counter with $50 and then we come to a deal somewhere in-between. Every girl I took from there did DATY and BBBJ but you must interview first. Again I would approach the hottest chica there and provided she gave the right answer to my questions we had a date, if not I moved on to the next hottest chica. The prices for the rooms are about the same as the HLH but it has always been booked every time I tried to get in. The bar at the Sportsman's closes at midnight so after that time if you want chicas you will have to go the Del Ray.
To get to the Sportsman's from the HLH as soon as you exit the HLH turn to your right and walk up the street the same street HLH is on, its about a four or five block walk along the way you will pass New Fantasy MP it will be on your left, you will be able to recognize it by the palm trees they have in front and the neon lights. There is a door man there who will unlock the door for you so you can go in. The Sportsman's is a little farther up on the left, when you come to a gray electrical box on the corner with a mesh cage around it and numbers on it then U-turn up that street to your left. The Sportsman's is the second or third building on your left it will have a green awning coming from the building to the sidewalk and it will say Sportsman's Lodge on it.
I have never had any chicas from the Sportsman or the Del Ray refuse to go with me back to my room at the HLH, it is a very short two or three minute cab ride from either place. A few especially late at night will ask for cab fare back but this is only a couple of bucks.
Massage Parlors:
There are numerous MP in the gulch some go for as low as $12 for the half some as much as $60 or $70 for the hour. New Fantasy who's direction and description is mentioned above does the half hour for $35 I don't remember what the hour is. I poke my head in there almost every time I walk between the HLH and Sportsman but for the most part I never seen anything that I had to have. I have session there before in the past and the girl was good and I have interviewed a few girls there that I thought were nice looking. It seem pretty standard that all of the girls there want an extra $20 for BBBJ and an extra $20 for DATY (No thanks that's basically Del Ray prices for half the time)
Muses, this is a little MP close to the HLH. If you exit the HLH and turn to your left and walk to the end of the block like you're going to the Del Ray but instead of turning to your left U-turn to your right and walk down the street for a block or less you will find it on your right hand side. Many of these low end MP deal more with locals so you may want to get colones and pay in the local currency.

Calla (sp?) six pension these places cater almost exclusively to locals if you go you will probably be the only gringos there. Here is where you will find your women for $12 to $14 for the half hour. These places deal almost exclusively in colones so you will want to have enough of the local currency with you if you go. I check these pensions out every time I am in SJ at first I always made the trip by myself but lately every time I go there are new mongers who have never been there and want to check it out so I offer to take them. I have always walked to these places and always go in the day time on weekdays, the theory being there will be less ticos to have to compete with because most of them will be at work. I have felt relatively safe and have never had a problem. There are usually about a dozen or so women standing against the wall or sitting against the wall and about a dozen or more ticos in the room looking at them. Many of the ticos don't have the money so they just like to go in and look at the girls. The women in these places rate form yuck to doable to not bad. Every time I go I also check out 747 Cha Cha Cha and jet set and between the pensions on calla six or these other MP I find at least one diamond in the ruff hottie and I session. The rooms vary some are not that bad nothing special but not bad to little more than a dingy closet with a beat up bed.
Cha Cha Cha, Jet Set and 747 are a few blocks away and I always check these MP out on the same day I set out the Calla six pensions. The women in here are about the same as the Calla Six Pensions but there are not as many and you don't have the Ticos standing around watching them. Prices in these places vary from $15 to $25 for the half and these places also operate more on colones than dollars. As mentioned above between Calla Six and these MP I usually find at least one diamond in the ruff super hottie every time I check them out. But most women in these places are 7 and below in my opinion. Relax, Eros, Idem, these MP are near the Del Ray and down the street from where the Hotel Free bird is located. I always poke my head into these place on every trip. Relax and eros are around $25 for the half hour and idem is 30, 000 colones for the hour, again these places operate more on colones than dollars but will accept your dollars. Just like the MP mentioned above the women are generally in the 7 and below category in my opinion, however just like the above mentioned MP I usually find one diamond in the ruff super hottie. Just like above the tip virus has also affected these places and from my experience the chicas will want an extra $10 to $20 propina for BBBJ and DATY.
Strip Clubs:
Every time I go to SJ I always check out Pirate club (technically not a strip club) Le Grillion and Arcadas.
You will need to take a cab to visit these places and this can sometimes be a problem as not all cabbies know where they are.
Pirates club is more of a bar where the girls dress in g strings and skimpy outfits, dance around and grind on the customers if they buy them a drink. They also do a lesbian show on the bar on Friday nights after 9 pm. The women in this place in my opinion are in the 4 to 7 range with a couple of 8. On this trip I did find the Hottest chica I seen anywhere in SJ working there. There are pictures of her on the ISG and the pictures do not do her justice she is a hot little spinner. I have in the past also seen the occasional super hottie working there. I session there ever time I go to SJ and I have to say the sessions with the girls have been great. I session with two girls from there this time and again the sessions were great. The price is $32 for the half hour and $50 for the hour, the rooms are nice but unfortunately the tip virus has also infected this place and most girls will want a $20 propina for BBBJ and DATY.

La Grillion and Arcadas:
I always stop into these places every time I am in SJ. These are strip clubs where the girls walk around or sit against the wall wearing white bikini tops and white G string bottoms. Both places don't get going until after midnight and they are both open until about 5 am. If I remember correctly there is a $10 cover charge to get in but you get two drinks with your cover charge. The prices for the girls are $35 to $40 at the La Grillion it is for 20 minutes and at the Arcadas it is for the half hour. The rooms are dark dingy with a beat up bed to do the dead on. I have found the women to be Hot in both places and have session in both places and found the services good.
Money:
In the main mongering locations, Del Ray, HLH Sportsman, dollars are readily accepted. Often however you will get a mix of dollars and colones back as change or just straight colones back. I have found that for most restaurants and most places in the area you can pay with dollars but again you will get a mix of change back or just straight colones back. This is a plus in my opinion and one of the ways I use to get colones when I want them. Most places operate on the 500 to 1 exchange rate when they are giving you your change back, whereas most exchanges will go for less. The Del Ray was exchanging at 490 to 1 but if you ordered a drink and gave a $20 bill to pay for it your change was usually in colones at a 500 to 1. The HLH will also exchange small amounts of money for you at the 500 to 1 exchange rate.
The secret to figuring out what your colones is worth in dollars is to drop the last three zeros and double the number. For instance if you have a 1 mil colones (mil means thousand, when you see mil on the bill that means there are three zeros after the number) drop the last three zeros and double the number so a 1 mil colones is the equivalent of 2 USA dollars. If you have a 20 mil colones, remember mil means thousand so it is 20, 000 drop the last three zeros and double the number the 20 mil colones is the equivalent of $40 USA.
Final Thoughts:
The three main bars in Gringo Gulch, Del Ray, HLH, Sportsman are probably some of the best places in the monger world to meet fellow mongers, within five minutes in any one of these places you will meet friendly fellow mongers who will be more than willing to help out and show you the ropes.
The problem with San Jose is that the tip virus has affected the place to the third degree. In just about every venue for getting pussy most girls now believe BBBJ and DATY are specialties that require a tip to obtain or simply won't do them.
Prices at the Del Ray and Sportsman have been highly inflated with girls asking and sad to say getting $100 for the hour and not giving BBBJ and DATY. YOU NEED TO STOP CATERING TO THESE GIRLS. I know many of you do I seen it going on when I was down there.
I personally avoided every girl that would not give a BBBJ or allow me to DATY and I never paid $100 for the hour. I was able to get most girls for $60 plus (yes I know I gave in) $20 propina for BBBJ and DATY. Only twice did I pay a full $100 for the hour but that was because anal was also thrown in.

The Free Bird is a couple blocks down from the Del Ray on your way to eros, Relax and idem, That is also in your price range but not sure about the wifi.
You may have to ask around a bit before you find a taxi driver that knows how to get to the MP you mentioned. I took a monger to Calla 6 once and he was feeling a little unsure about the neighborhood so we jumped in a cab, I told the cabbie the the street corners but he had no ideal where it was so we just got out and walked over. The pensions start at the corner of calla 6 and avanida (sp?) 5.
To get to calla six from the Del Ray you would want to exit the Del Ray and walk through the park as if you are going to the HLH. Cross the park and stand in front of the Holiday Inn at the other end of the park. There are no street signs so you will have to count blocks. If you start at the Holiday Inn and stand facing the holiday inn you will want to turn to your left and it will be six blocks until you come to the pensions on calla six. On your sixth block which is calla 6 turn to your left and the pensions will be on your right hand side there are four or five of them all in a row you will know it is them because there will be a few ticos and ticas standing around outside. To get to Cha Cha Cha start out the same way but instead of walking the full 6 blocks only walk 5 blocks and on your fifth block turn to your right and go down two blocks Cha Cha Cha and 747 will be right next to each other on the left hand side before you reach the end of the second block. These places may be a bit harder to find because they look just like any other house on the street 747 I believe is a White house and cha cha cha is a blue house.

Good job branching out and hitting places that a lot of mongers never make it to. I also agree with your suggestion to avoid taxis whenever possible and walk, at least during the day time. Re Bar Idem, it is indeed a bit overpriced, but I have had amazing luck there over the years. It does. I would say Thursday night is the best night for the Rey. But Friday and Saturdays are good too. During the day, you can use the MP map and take a walk around downtown. You'll see some ugly girls, but you'll also see some $20 gems. My favorites during the day are Illusiones, La Mansion, and sometimes Idem. At night, the Pirate Club is fun.

I think the one thing I might have (without any disrespect meant for my fellow travellers) , is that I keep myself in peak physical shape. I only know this because I've actually been told this by the ladies during my visits to Montreal (whom I can actually converse with).

ChrisI never had a problem too but at night, sometimes I walk on the streets rather than on the sidewalks. More open I figure so more people / witnesses. I also walk relatively fast.

2Both the Del Rey and the Colonial Casino right next door have reliable ATMs. I'm curious why you felt the need to walk to a bank a few blocks away to take out some more money.
As for walking at night in the gulch, I do it all the time, but some routes are safer than others. I frequently walk from the Del Rey to the Hotel Freebird on calle 11, and sometimes from the Sportsmens to the Del Rey, keeping off to the east side of Parque Espana, walking very fast, always prepared to break out in a run! I would never, however, take the route to or from the Del Rey to the Hotel Little Havana or points nearby. Strolling around Parque Morazon and its environs after say 9pm is asking for trouble. Guys I know who live in San Jose and are not paranoid have advised me that even the brief stroll from the Rey to the Hotel Balmoral or Presidente isn't a good idea at night.

Sent you a PM on this issue. To make a long explanation short, basically I avoid trying to hook up with waitresses, bartenders, cleaning ladies or any other non-working chicas. They may flirt from time to time and appear that they are interested, but in the end as many a wise monger has posted time and time again, it's not worth the time, money, and probable drama and I come from the perspective of someone who is 32 years old and can still potentially date younger women (although I choose to avoid the bullshit, drama, and head games). I went to the Hotel Morazan today, and on the second floor, room 200 they have a sports betting room. Minimun bet is $20. I was told they will take bets on the Breeders Cup, but may not have it on TV. I was also told the most odds they will pay off on is 15 to 1.

She wasn't due to start until the next day, but we hit it off that afternoon and went to my room. Spinner-rific (85lbs?) and it was a very nice GFE. Good skills. She is a Nica, but has an exotic look that will remind you of certain types of Thai / Cambodian / Pinay girls. She stayed at the HLH for a few weeks and then went independent, or went back to being independent. Has a tendency to build up repeat customers who become fond of her. I would repeat.
However, she has a reputation as a thief. If your commute back to the airport does straddle rush hour, pick up a nice meal to go. (SJO meal options, both inside the security coral, and even outside for the visitors and employees, is expensive and tasteless. That still leaves you 30 minutes of safety margin.

Generally, girls will ask for $300 for TLN. Most will settle for $200. This has mostly to do with supply and demand. On a busy thurs / fri / sat night, the pretty girls can find a couple of gringos to pay $100 for a session during the course of the night. So they are not all that motivated to stick themselves into close quarters with an ugly old gringo if they can do a couple rounds instead and party with the money they've made.
Of course, much of this has to do with what you consider "an insane amount of money". In Cambodia or Laos, $300 a night is an insane amount of money. In Costa Rica, that threshold is twice that number. Just has to do with the local economy and frequent exposure to dumb gringos.

I'm into my last week of this three week trip. I have had trouble understanding why this town is so loaded with Gringos. Everything is expensive here, and the weather has not been that great (kinda cold, and damp ). All that said it took Fridat night in Key Largo to make me understand things much better. The Disco was really jumping. Many hot girls who seemed more into partying with the Gringos thay had then heading to the room. Now I have had a lot of experence with LDV in CTG, and Teqilla Rock in LIma, but this place was better than those other two by far. I think for a Gringo with some extra money who is not afraid to part with it than the Key Largo is a great spot.
I also have found the budget monger has many options here as there are many low priced casas in the Amon area.

I think that if you leave the HLH two hours before your flight, you should be fine, especially if you have boarding pass already, you don't have to get in line to get it, which would save you 30 minutes. However, you might need to pay the exit tax, please check on this before leaving the airport. Buy one at the airport before leaving if you do. Leaving two hours before your flight leaves should be plenty of time, even if you try to leave for the airport during rush hour. Seriously, it has never taken me more than 23 minutes to get from the airport to HLH.
That leaves you three hours to leave the airport.
If you travel light (1 carry on, one shoulder bag / small back pack) you don't check anything in, so you walk off the plane, you walk pass the shuffling masses of airport zombies departing your plane, and get to the head of the line at immigration, and you don't have to wait for your bags on the turntables.
It should not take you more than an hour to get out of the airport and get to the HLH. Hour and 15 minutes, tops, and that would be during rush hour. But if you are coming in during rush hour, you will not have to go back to the airport during rush hour, so you have those 30 minutes back from the return trip.
Five hours minus 3 hours, leaves you two hours. Plenty of time for a drink, an interview, and plenty of time to pull the trigger and spend a nice hour session. You can even have the gal at the front desk have a cab and a dinner-to-go from the Peruvian place across the street waiting for you two hours before your plane takes off.

As I first posted weeks ago this was my return to San Jose after almost 6 years. First off I was surprised how the weather was on the cool side. Many nights I had to wear a light jacket.
I found prices in general to be quite high compared to my other Latin American stays.
I found the Del Ray to have as many Chicas as in the past, but the quality was not as good as before. One exception was Key Largo which did have a better ratio of hot girls than the Del Ray. Yes I know the girls cross the street back, and forth, but more seemed to stay at Key Largo. A funny note was if you have a girl with you or one is solo they have to wear high heels to be admitted to either place. I wonder why?
One thing I learned on this trip was the many places that had budget mongering options. Now the DR, and KL all the girls were asking for the cien, and IDEM was also expensive as was Little Havana, and Sportsmans lodge. Plenty of the smaller bars, and casas with $20 choices.
For me an interesting look at the customs declararation form got me to look at one of the questions you are to answer. (Have you enjoyed in the last six months exoneration tributes?) WTF does that mean? I asked a few stews, and other travlers about this, and no one had a clue.
The flight home was no surprise as Spirit was 50 minutes late getting in to FL. At the San jose airport they had the waiting area roped off. So you were checked again after the main security point, and then if you wanted to use the bathroom you had to go from the roped in area, and return to get checked again. I got the feeling cattle are treated better than people leaving Costa Rica. One more thing. You need to pay a tax of $28 to leave the country.
Will I return? Not likely, but I can understand the old time vistors who keep coming back for more.
