Veterans. Coming back for s short visit from 14-18 Jan. In your opinion will the ladies have returned from the holidays and the quality be better in San Jose or Jaco that week.
Thanks.Went to Jaco twice and the numbers were very limited. Saw maybe 10 total and only 1 or 2 I would have been interested in.

Based on my experience over the past few years, the quality is always better in Jaco. And if the Del Rey is closed now, that will only accelerate the trend.Thanks. Any one on the ground confirm the Del Rey is closed.

Those who went to the Del Rey the 2 weeks before Christmas: what did you expect? It's the worst time of year to go, the girls take Christmas vacations like everyone else in CR except for the most desperate. So no wonder you found few good prospects!
As to Colombia, sure I hear it's great, as is Brazil. But by the time you pay the flight and put up with the long flight, is it really worth it? To me, no.
As to where to stay now, I'm leaning towards the Taormina. Can anyone state with certainty what the "guest" fees are if any there? What about 2 girls at once? The HDR is charging way too much, the Morazan is worse than ever and the SL is and always has been the worst place unless you know NO spanish and can't handle yourself at the Blue Marlin.
Most of the massage parlors or pensiones will just give you wham-bam-thank-you-man sex whereas if you put some time and effort in at the Del Rey you can get a much more GFE type service and sometimes with semi-amateurs which to me means not used up or burnt out on sex. They still can enjoy it. And more likely to give you a girlfriend experience with kissing and relaxed fun vs just a quick romp.
Never tip more than 5-10 mil! To do otherwise is stupid and drives up prices.

Does Key Largo STILL suck with headache inducing ridiculously loud "music" and hardly any girls at all?

Del Rey was open and busy. I did not have a room there and girls wanted a 100 plus 20 to go to a nearby hotel. Sportsman seemed slow so I did not go back after the 1st night or really talk to anyone there.I don't know what Croc's policy is but whenever I've walked through there I haven't seen any hookers.

The Del Rey is alive and well. It's many more girls than men so if you can't find a girl you like you're probably not all that horny.
The internet "news" site you mentioned is not the best source for news about Costa Rica.
If you speak Spanish and have even a little negotiating skills, you can get some great girls for about 35-40 mil which is less than $75. My advice is to spend some time with them at the bar, don't go with one right away. Get to know her, buy her a beer or two. (But don't let them con you into those expensive drinks unless you know you're going back to your room with her!) Ask her if she likes to kiss, if she's good at blow jobs, whatever. Sometimes if you go in on a weekday afternoon you can get lucky and find an amateur. A girl who only works 1-2 days a week or less but enjoys her work. She's just picking up some extra college money and loves sex. It's not always easy to find a girl like this but it happens. Even on a Fri night you can find one if you are patient and steadfastly look for one.
Anyway the scene in Costa Rica is still good and anyone who says otherwise is just too dang picky or. Something.

Last time in sj me and my buddy got rooms at morazon, but it was so bad we moved to a nice chain hotel out in escazu and just kept morazon to bring girls back (for $30/ night it was worth it). I'm going back this year with some friends who are new to the hobby so I'd like a good method for this. Del ray girls were great but the room situation was definitely not.

For many, it is really only an hour and change more in the air. I would argue (as someone who has been to CR perhaps 12 times and Colombia 6 or so) is saving an hour really worth it?
I am not a member of the Costa Rica sucks club, but I would rate it, at this point, just an average mongering destination. If you want familiar, easy, point and shoot, its a great option in North America. If nearly constant GFE, Todo la Noche, with little issue or negotiation is a priority to you, then most of Colombia, and certainly still Medellin, are far superior.

I'd be interested to know what Taormina costs to bring a girl back. There is no chica fee at the Taormina. Plus, a quick taxi ride to Taormina from the Del Rey and back is actually cheaper than the Del Rey elevator fee. When entering Taormina, the girl will have to leave her cedula at Reception.
The Taormina is way nicer than HDR. Costs just a little more, but worth it in my opinion. The rooms at HDR have gotten too run down now in my opinion. The breakfast buffer at Taormina is great too. Even if you aren't staying at Taormina, visiting their breakfast buffet is always a good idea.
Finally after delays bcs of snowstorm in US North East and missing connecting flight, etc. Got to SJO at 10:30 instead of 4:30 PM, where the first time in my life I found a nice passport control guy. I was so exhausted that stood in a smaller line which turned out to be "Resident" but surprised officer instead of kicking me out (best case scenario) let me through with a smile "Welcome to Costa Rica!" Now Hotel del Rey -- I do not know who was talking about renovation and closure -- everything is in order. But I found 3 unexpected things: 1. Only 16 girls (Wednesday 11 PM, but still way fewer than I expected). From them 3 doable, I picked 25 yo Rachele who agreed to stay over night until 8 AM with any number of come shots, pictures and kisses are okay and. I had a very good GFE. Little English, but two phones made communication doable. The only problem was that I had to negotiate from $400 USD to $250, but tipped her $50 more ($300 all together) because she was so nice. (Originally I negotiated from $100 per hour asking price to $80, but once I heard that pictures were okay (reluctantly, but still), I wanted for the full night. 2. Very bad Internet in my room, but in the hallway (30 feet) all 5 bars. 3. When I went to try their "free" breakfast -- worth as much as I paid for it (nothing) -- at 8:30 AM in the morning, I was already eyed by 2 girls! I guess someone starts early -- no problem with that, but can not recall any other place where that happened. Today is massage and strip club day -- I want to find 18 yo -- I did not see any in HDR.
My last exploratory day in Costa Rica was interesting. As I was somewhat disappointed with HDR yesterday (see previous report), I decided to explore other opportunities. As I started early (around 3 PM) Strip Clubs were still closed and I ventured into MPs. Importan: t they looked closed, but they were not: you have to ring a bell; I almost missed MP360 and then Zona 2 for this stupid thing as they looked closed under metal doors. So MP 360 was very disappointing: around 8 girls waiting, but not my test (and probably not many of those either). So I left and it felt rude, but I did not have any other choice. Then New Fantasy -- literally: no available girls. After my disappointment with MP360, I almost got excited: may be all pretty ones (IMHO) moved here, after all it is on the same street (and Zona 2 is on the same street just between them) , but when I asked ho wmany girls were working, two men at the front said in unison: one 5 and the other one 4 -- so I decided to leave and not to wait. Then I came to Zona 2 -- that is a bar I learned from one of us on the forum that it had special rooms -- and it does. But upon my arrival, I saw 2 heavy tattooed girls (not my thing) and after 2 previous disappointments my mood was not that great. Then 2 pretty girls arrived but they sat with another gentleman and let me understand that they were busy. And then a nice Nica April arrived. She said she wanted me and would do everything I would ask and we agreed on $80 USD for an hour with pictures (pictures are important to me). So the room had sauna, special chairs, large bed, and "a torture room" with all sort of equipment (handcuffs, whips, etc.). Because of the stupid blue light the pictures do not give the justice; the experience was incredible. Most is make-belief: I did not really incapacitate the girl, but she was a soldier and did not gave herself a break. She was hanged fully extended; handcuffed, and let me (very lightly) whip her during and before sex. And make pictures: tried to upload them here, but this forum has a very strict limit (my pictures are more than order of magnitude larger) so PM me: I got her permission to share with those who plan to hire her. After that returned to HDR to do some work, and left to investigate Strip Clubs in SJ First of all, the number of girls quadrupled and there were some very pretty one on my taste! But I decided to investigate strip clubs and came to Alcazar Strip Club. There were about 10-12 girls ages 21-28 and not one above 6 on my scale. Only one knew how to do pall dancing. Lap-dance is very different than in US. You pay for a drink (7 mills = $13.5 USD) and the girl dances on your laps while you give her a tip. I do not think tips are mandatory. They dance as long as they want (way better than in US) but it is up-to-them if they want to take off their clothes (way worse than in US, if a girl does not cooperate). I tried 2: one was bad and another was pretty good, so I took her up to the room to learn more about her. And it was worth it ($60 USD for 30 minutes including the room and the girl.) Warning: they had problems with watter (no watter) which made my experience way worse than it could be.

Appreciate the replies to my recent post. Happy to hear everything is still cooking at HDR. Normally I fly in and stay at Sleep Inn. Walk over to HDR and find someone suitable and agreeable. Head over to the room rental across the street and have some fun.
I also like to do Veronicas. Never had a bad experience there. Oasis used to be a hot spot, but went downhill and then closed for renovations. I heard it's open again. Anybody been there since?
Colorado is fucking cold, boring and the Asian mps are a ripoff. Can't wait to get back to SJO.

I think (but I am not sure) all girls know what is expected of them, but as it is always the case, if they do not like you, and feel that you are vulnerable they may pretend they do not know and get away "easier" but I doubt: in this place they are professionals. Now you other question, " Is it awkward?" can be interpreted in 2 different ways. 1. It is not awkward to make sex with them while they are hanging at all: for me it was invigorating. You can adjust the girl if you need to. 2. Was it awkward to ask her do things -- April was very good and made you feel like a master. I have not been to Colombia nor Brazil but was referring to the flight being too long to Brazil.

Costa Rica mongering has gone a little downhill but I have never once had a problem in finding someone worth taking up to my room, not now, not ever.
I do agree sometimes it takes longer than it used to, to find a girl I want; but if I'm patient and sit there for an hour or two I almost always find what I want.
By the way for newbies, the later you go the more girls there are, typically. A lot of girls don't arrive til 11pm.

But, just recently you can now apply for the visa online as an E-Visa or something like that. I would have maybe tried this out this year but I'm moving in the opposite direction at the moment.

Here's my contribution. I included a 'travel advice' section, and a separate 'mongering' section for those already familiar.
Travel Advice.
I arrived Friday (the 26th) in the morning on a red-eye. I exited the airport, went to the parking structure, took the stairs to the second floor and re-entered the Departures area. Walked all the way down to the left and found the bank (not the exchange counters) and withdrew money at the ATM. Had to pay a 3% fee which amounted to an exchange rate of 550/1 rather than the official 568/1. It was the best deal I was going to get. There were fees on top of that from my ATM card issuer (Chase), but they reversed those in a single phone call once I got back.
I took an Interbus Shuttle from the Airport directly to the Del Rey Hotel for $10 (booked in advance). It's the best deal for convenience's sake. One the way back I would eventually take a $2 cab from the Del Rey to the Tuasa Bus Terminal and then a $1 (red) Tuasa bus to the airport. It's probably what I'd do going forward.
The Del Rey (at about $68/ night) was way better than I expected in both facilities and staff, as was the rest of the country. I originally selected Costa Rica as my vacation spot since it made so many mongering top-ten lists. Shortly after I started telling people I was headed down, I got all the book-several-days-in-the-jungle advice. Boy am I glad I did! I spent three days in Arenal at a hostel doing some genuinely life-changing adventuring that put the (decent) mongering to shame! Costa Rica is one of the best kept tourist secrets in the world, and everyone should see it. There isn't much to San Jose beyond mongering, honestly, but you can spend a month seeing nature at it's best, and it would only get better each day.

I got sick on my first day, probably from the red-eye travel and lack of sleep, so my first Del Rey night (a Fri) was a bust. I was in no shape for action, and spending an hour walking the lobby took everything out of me. I found a natural-looking dark haired Tica named Jaehayra with a beautiful chiseled face, and a cute if not perfect body. She asked me $80 off the bat, and would be the only one to not ask $100. She even sat with me in the lobby for a half hour while I got the shakes, but I was too sick to take her up on her offer. I cringe with regret thinking about it, since she was a truly sweet and sexy girl.
On Sat I did a scouting trip of pensions during the day from about 2 to 4 pm. I hit up IDEM (bolted shut), Relax, Pension 69, Monica's, Erotico, Little Havana, and Zona II. They all sucked. Honestly, only Relax had ONE girl I considered do-able. I'm a Tijuana veteran (the only destination I've been to in Latin America) and consider Tijuana a fairly middling spot in the global scheme. But the offering in San Jose (including most of the Del Rey) was really no better talent-wise (only logistically).
That night (Sat) I hunkered down in the Del Rey lobby and decided to find the best diamond in the rough. I found two. Both were 22-23 year old, white Ticas, and among the most beautiful girls I've ever been with. Both had spinner bodies and rockstar faces to go with them. The first one, Anny (pronounced like Amy with an 'and') gave me near-perfect GFE sex. It included one of the best and longest, uncovered blowjobs I've had in this lifetime. In the overall it was a worthwhile mongering trip, but still paled in comparison to the rest of my Costa Rican experience. Even a small lick of Spanish did indeed help, BTW. I would certainly make a repeat visit, but not if it was solely for mongering. Despite the incredible sex I had with Anny, and the other reasonable experiences, the scene wouldn't rank as a world-class mongering spot in my mind. But to each his own. Otherwise, everyone should see Costa Rica once in their lifetimes!

Guys, as usual, I have a lot of minutia in here that you may not be interested in so skip over as needed:
TRANSPORTATION: Redeye from LFT- IAH no problems. Tight connection to SJO but made it with no problems. 5 Federal Agents waiting on the jetway just after scanning my boarding pass. I was in Gp 1 so I was the 4th or 5th person to board. They were just out of sight so I could not see them until I was past boarding pass scanning and in the jetway. An agent took my boarding pass & asked where I was going & I said San Jose & he let me have my passport back & said have a good flight. I sat next to a girl who was in Gp 4 & told her about it & she said she did not see them. So whomever they were looking for, they got him / her!! Customs was fairly easy, we got in just before another flight so I was almost through when the lines started filling up from another flight. UBER to the Hotel Castillo was easy but a bit expensive. 19 K CRC. The driver had to reroute do to an accident, or so he said. Anyway, no problems getting UBER. Met the 5th wingman at Adobe near the airport on Thu early afternoon. Bought beer, snacks & raw chicken for the Crocs at Tarcoles. What a show they put on chowing down on that raw pollo. Rental van back and forth to LOS Sueños Fri & Sat to fish. 1 hour from Castillo to Gate 16 to wait for my return flight. Needless to say, the airport was not busy. Flight back to IAH Was on time, three hour lay over so I was able to hang out at the United club for the first time ever. I get two passes a year with their visa card but I'm never able to use them because of such tight connections. Very nice in here, soup salad soft drinks fruits etc. Etc. Very relaxing. Flight back home to LFT.
HOTEL / CONDO: Hotel Castillo was very nice. $111 USD for the all inclusive single room, #12 (3rd floor) before we went to JACO & The Captains Room (2nd floor) on the return trip. The food there was excellent. None of us had a bad meal.
VistaMar In Jaco was awesome. We had the upstairs penthouse 7 D the one on the north side of the building. So expensive but so much fun when everyone is in the same room! $1150/ night. We already have it reserved for next year. We will start looking for another less expensive condo after SuperBowl 2019.
FISHING: Fished with Captn Richard on The Sueltalo (Release it) on Fri & Sat. Great Captain & 2 deckhands. 1st day, we landed 2 YFT, 1 Pez Vela & 1 Blue Marlin. 2nd day we landed 4 Pez Vela and a 400# Blue Marlin. Not big numbers but the 2 blue Marlin made the trip worthwhile. 2 guys caught their first ever sailfish & the guy that landed the Blue ticked that off of his bucket list!!
FOOD: Hotel Castillo food was awesome. Eggs, fruit & toast for breakfast, lunch and dinner was the same awesome menu. I had the chicken kabobs, Caesar salad, shrimp tower & pork belly. At different meals of course. All were awesome!
They even allowed me to put some frozen YFT in their freezer to keep it frozen overnight. Very nice people there.
Thu pm is always Taco Bar night for us & it did not disappoint. A new expanded, kind of confusing menu up above the order window but the girl was very helpful and knowledgeable helping us as we stumbled through the new menu. That's the best meal I ever remember having there.
Fri pm. LOS Amigos. Excellent as well. I had the Thai curry chicken soup, very heavy, especially with the rice, but ohhh so good.
Sat pm. The Green Room. I had a rib off of one of the guys plate & it was awesome as well. There were enough ribs that he couldn't finish them.
Sun lunch. Pizza Bar. Again I didn't eat but the other 4 had custom pizzas & they looked great and there were no complaints.
Sun PM Ox Bar & Hotel Sports Bar. Across the main street from MASxMENOS. Typical bar food, greasy & not much flavor. They do however have the coldest beer in town.
CHICAS: Wed. Del Rey was mostly dead. A couple of spinners but it was definitely a sellers market. I went to the Pirate Club & it should be renamed the Heifer Club. Went by Taormina & it was dead. The old Zona II looked like it was locked up, the Havana room right next to it was dead with no chicas in there, Sky (the old New Fantasy I think) was useless with a lot of large chicas sitting around. SL had the usual suspects. 6-8 chicas, maybe 1 or 2 were doable. Six-pak Sammy is now sporting bolt-ONS and was looking pretty good. Did not pull on Wednesday due to travel fatigue and too much beer. I drank one every place I went to.
Thu am: FB friend Sharon came over. A bit older but incredible body and nice seno implants. Great attitude great service. She was supposed to come over WED pm But texted me an hour and a half after she was supposed to be there and said she could not go because somebody stole her purse. Blah blah blah blah blah.

Great hostels with lots of people coming and going, and an endless supply of day-tour options. It's about 3 1/2 hours from SJ by shuttle ($54 each way on Interbus), or a much cheaper public bus necessitating a transfer midway. There may be closer destinations but only more experienced travelers would know. Enjoy your trip!

I recently used WorldTravel69's list in San Jose and have the following info:
1) Centro de Masajes does not exist.
2) Pension Monica increased the rate for 1/2 HR to 14,000 colones but kept the hourly rate the same at 20,000 see (FS). BBBJ is usually available at a 5 K C. Surcharge.
I highly recommend you go for the hourly rate. This place has about 20 girls in rotation and usually about a dozen at any one time. Hours are 7 days / wk, 9 am to 7 pm. The hours are deliberately designed to cater to businessmen and tourists, as they avoid the drunken crowd that comes out later. In my last trip last month, I went to rincan but the park was closed due to unusual high winds. Now I will go there again in my next trip but will call ahead to see if they would be open so I don't waste 6 hours just in driving. I did go to a private run business called Vandara hot springs and adventure so it was not a total waste of time. Do you recommend Monteverde? I hear it is very beautiful too.
I do recommend Monteverde. It p!ssed down rain the whole time and was still a lot of fun. I mean, it is a cloud forest so the rain was pretty much a given. I think it is one of the rainiest places in the world, actually. But it is warmish rain. Arenal, the weather has to cooperate. Monteverde, the weather is part of the experience. Never really thought about high winds at Rincóand de la Vieja. It was very hot and dry when I was there.

It's mostly for couples I guess but there are some singles there. "Los Lagos" a mile or so outside of La Fortuna. They have a web site.
Really great place to see the volcano from plus great hot springs included right on the premises. Many areas to enjoy the hot springs; i. e. Not just one big hot pool but nooks and crannies. Plus some bigger pools, a water slide, swim up bar etc.
Monkeys often right next to the property in a big tree by the highway (congos or howlers).
Great included breakfast!
Nice rooms.
Grounds include an area of crocodiles, an ant farm, beautiful landscaping.
A bit pricey but in the off season you might get a deal.
If you got $100 to spend (last time I checked) it's worth it. The viewing point they have of the volcan is awesome. I've been there with my girlfriend and with my wingman and always enjoyed it. La Fortuna has a great pizza place, an Italian place on the way into town from San Ramon. Looks high class and is, but not expensive for pizza. I think it has name like "Mediterranean... something or other". Can't remember...

My wingman was there Fri and Sat. Stayed at the Mora. I couldn't go.
He's not into posting on this forum so I'll tell you what he told me yesterday.
He said Friday night was "the bay of pigs" and also there were not very many girls there at all. But a high percentage of less than desirable ones.
Nevertheless he found a red head who had a great face and body and gave him an "almost" GFE. She wouldn't tongue kiss but otherwise was very good in bed, very accommodating.
So much so, he told her he wanted to have her again the next night. Like me, he will rarely do this, it has to be someone very desirable and good.
So in spite of the poor selection he scored well! 2 points for the home team!

He said he noted that most of the girls didn't probably go back to a room with anyone as there were more guys than girls on Saturday. Yet less people all in all on Sat. Which I find distressing, as did he. Friday was not so great and Saturday less great in terms of quantity of women. However he did say that the percentage of good looking ones was a *bit* better on Saturday.
Anyway although this one he liked was less enthusiastic on Saturday he still had a fairly good time with her; though from what I gathered he probably now would not see her again.
Dumb on her part, not to muster more enthusiasm. She could have had a "regular".
Okay so here's my question to you old timers who've been coming here for years: WTF is happening? Why such lousy numbers in general and such low percentages of good looking ones vs fat or ugly ones?
I have 2 theories:
1) All the best looking girls are now going to Jaco' where the prices are better for the girls because the guys there are throwing around more money. More yuppy let's say. Or at least more guys with money to burn who are not even into negotiating perhaps. Leaving the less than great looking girls to stay at the Del Rey scene. This is my #1 theory of what is happening.
Now here's another theory: (it may be a combination of both).
2) Due to the lousy economy in Costa Rica. Cost of living higher than ever. More girls are trying out the Del Rey scene to make ends meet. This has led to more girls who really are not qualified to be pros with their looks or with their skills, but who want to give it a shot anyway, just for some $.
Thus the lousy percentages of good looking girls and a lot of amateurs who don't even know HOW to be pros. So give lousy service. Not only has this situation itself led to less good looking girls going to the Del Rey, but also less men are now coming to Costa Rica BECAUSE of this. So it's a snowball effect: less good looking girls, thus less men coming, thus less and less business at the Del Rey.

Have a door man who is trained to let in only the better looking girls, and stop letting in the pigs.
With a higher percentage of good looking girls maybe the monger tourism will increase again and more good looking girls will come to make some extra cash and more of the pigs will stay home!
What do you guys think? What the eff is going on at the Del Rey in terms of numbers of quality girls?
And is my 2nd theory a good one?

Here's my contribution. I included a 'travel advice' section, and a separate 'mongering' section for those already familiar.
Travel Advice.
I arrived Friday (the 26th) in the morning on a red-eye. I exited the airport, went to the parking structure, took the stairs to the second floor and re-entered the Departures area. Walked all the way down to the left and found the bank (not the exchange counters) and withdrew money at the ATM. Had to pay a 3% fee which amounted to an exchange rate of 550/1 rather than the official 568/1. It was the best deal I was going to get. There were fees on top of that from my ATM card issuer (Chase), but they reversed those in a single phone call once I got back.
I took an Interbus Shuttle from the Airport directly to the Del Rey Hotel for $10 (booked in advance). It's the best deal for convenience's sake. One the way back I would eventually take a $2 cab from the Del Rey to the Tuasa Bus Terminal and then a $1 (red) Tuasa bus to the airport. It's probably what I'd do going forward.
The Del Rey (at about $68/ night) was way better than I expected in both facilities and staff, as was the rest of the country. I originally selected Costa Rica as my vacation spot since it made so many mongering top-ten lists. Shortly after I started telling people I was headed down, I got all the book-several-days-in-the-jungle advice. Boy am I glad I did! I spent three days in Arenal at a hostel doing some genuinely life-changing adventuring that put the (decent) mongering to shame! Costa Rica is one of the best kept tourist secrets in the world, and everyone should see it. There isn't much to San Jose beyond mongering, honestly, but you can spend a month seeing nature at it's best, and it would only get better each day.
Mongering.
I got sick on my first day, probably from the red-eye travel and lack of sleep, so my first Del Rey night (a Fri) was a bust. I was in no shape for action, and spending an hour walking the lobby took everything out of me. I found a natural-looking dark haired Tica named Jaehayra with a beautiful chiseled face, and a cute if not perfect body. She asked me $80 off the bat, and would be the only one to not ask $100. She even sat with me in the lobby for a half hour while I got the shakes, but I was too sick to take her up on her offer. I cringe with regret thinking about it, since she was a truly sweet and sexy girl.
On Sat I did a scouting trip of pensions during the day from about 2 to 4 pm. I hit up IDEM (bolted shut), Relax, Pension 69, Monica's, Erotico, Little Havana, and Zona II. They all sucked. Honestly, only Relax had ONE girl I considered do-able. I'm a Tijuana veteran (the only destination I've been to in Latin America) and consider Tijuana a fairly middling spot in the global scheme. But the offering in San Jose (including most of the Del Rey) was really no better talent-wise (only logistically).
That night (Sat) I hunkered down in the Del Rey lobby and decided to find the best diamond in the rough. I found two. Both were 22-23 year old, white Ticas, and among the most beautiful girls I've ever been with. Both had spinner bodies and rockstar faces to go with them. The first one, Anny (pronounced like Amy with an 'and') gave me near-perfect GFE sex. It included one of the best and longest, uncovered blowjobs I've had in this lifetime. It's the reason I'm such a stickler to top-notch looks in the mongering world. When all else fails, it's the only guaranteed return. I blew one load rubbing against her tight ass in the shower, and managed to walk away satisfied.
I mongered in San Jose again the following Wed (the 31st) after returning from the jungle. I checked out the Del Rey lobby (where the kindly bellman Oscar watched over my luggage) at about noon. There was one stellar hottie named Yvonne who looked like a genuine 18/19-yo. She spoke Spanish only and wanted $100 for a single-shot romp. Since I didn't have my Del Rey room anymore (was heading to airport later) I offered to take her to Hotel Asia around the corner in my barely-there Spanish. She didn't seem enthused and I stopped wasting my time. What really soured me was some unshaven leg-hair though the hole in her jeans. No clearer sign of a poor attitude.
I did another short pension-circuit, hitting up Monicas, Erotico, Pension Erotica #3, Pension 69, IDEM (still shut) and finally Relax, where once again there was one decent girl. This one was a Nica named Laura (La-ooh-ra) with a pretty and wholesome face, and a decent body marred only by unfortunate belly stretch marks (oh well.) For the $31 I spent total it was a bargain, and I rushed it way more than she ever could (I needed to catch a plane).
In the overall it was a worthwhile mongering trip, but still paled in comparison to the rest of my Costa Rican experience. Even a small lick of Spanish did indeed help, BTW. I would certainly make a repeat visit, but not if it was solely for mongering. Despite the incredible sex I had with Anny, and the other reasonable experiences, the scene wouldn't rank as a world-class mongering spot in my mind. But to each his own. Otherwise, everyone should see Costa Rica once in their lifetimes!

But the two girls I paid cien to were the only diamonds in the rough, and they knew it. They'd have walked away.
The reality is without them the entire scene is even below Tijuana standards (talent-wise). It was disheartening, and I was super-stoked to somehow find girls of that quality. And they were worth it.
So yes, it's a buyer's market in terms of overall numbers. But a sad seller's market in terms of top-shelf talent!

Could not have said it better!It is a buyers market in the Del Rey. $80 and less is appropriate for an hours service with a tip for good service as an option. When you take into account that the usual rate at MPs runs from $35 to $65 per hour and that includes the room you know what your other options are. It is your money and you are free to pay what you choose. I prefer GFE and look for women that I can spend 3 to 5 hours with. The max I pay is $150 and that equates to $30 to $50 per hour. A fair price. Jaco is a different story all together. No problem getting women there for cien but less than that risks rejection on a regular basis. The only game in town in Jaco is the Cocal. The strip club is a major rip off and no MPs. San Jose offers many more options.

The same debate, cien or no cien, was live and raging in 2003. Never pay cien. Never pay cien. It might have had some value back then; that is usually what a TLN / LT cost. That was 15 year ago. 15 years.

See what a price of a meal actually costs, not to mention rent and other expenses for the chicas. And cien is not the issue, for me. It is what you Get for the $100. If you have well honed negotiating skills, good selection criteria, and a bit of patience playing the game, you can increases in time / number of sessions instead of a small decrease in price. I would far rather pay 20 or 40 dollars more for a 3 or 4 hour, full GFE session than the lower amount with one pop.

2) Due to the lousy economy in Costa Rica. Cost of living higher than ever. More girls are trying out the Del Rey scene to make ends meet. This has led to more girls who really are not qualified to be pros with their looks or with their skills, but who want to give it a shot anyway, just for some $.
Thus the lousy percentages of good looking girls and a lot of amateurs who don't even know HOW to be pros. So give lousy service. Not only has this situation itself led to less good looking girls going to the Del Rey, but also less men are now coming to Costa Rica BECAUSE of this. So it's a snowball effect: less good looking girls, thus less men coming, thus less and less business at the Del Rey.

Why Costa Rica? Why now? Costa Rica can be a life changing adventure. It was for me. Not only is it a beautiful country to visit with plenty to see and do, it is a complete change in culture. For a single male traveler it is like going to Disneyland. There are unlimited opportunities to meet beautiful, exciting young women with attitudes completely different from what you are experiencing in the States. You can actually talk to and flirt with women here without fear of offending them. Prostitution here is not illegal. It is not encouraged by the society but it exists and is accepted. Or is there a Monicas Massage Parlor as well?What are referred to as MPs in Costa Rica are pensions (short term hotels) that just happen to have girls on the premises. Technically the girls do not work there or the location would be promoting prostitution (against the law in Costa Rica). The location can control who is allowed to hang around there so if the girl doesn't show up or is complained about they can be banned from the location (fired). It is their way of getting around the prostitution laws. An actual massage parlor requires a different kind of license and different rules to operate. There are a limited number of pension licenses available and many locations classified as pensions do not have girls on the scene (examples Hotel Asia and La Officina). What are springing up now are girls renting apartments and operating out of them. Many were advertising on Backpage Costa Rica. It is technically illegal. They are operating a business without a license. Something that occurs with regularity in Costa Rica and is generally dealt with a fine if a complaint occurs. What is happening now are more are posting on social media sites such as Badoo. If they post a profile saying they are 20 years old and looking to date men 50 to 70 years old it is pretty obvious what they have in mind without spelling it out.
The pensions exist mostly to care for locals not tourists. The girls vary in size, shape, age, beauty and performance. Most do not speak English. They work on volume rather than the big score. They usually get half of the stated price plus any tips given. From a half hour session costing 14,000 colones the girl usually receives 7 k roughly $12.50. Just because a girl is at a pension does not mean that she is of legal age. Age of consent here is 18, You are responsible to know for sure if you go there. If in doubt it is best to request identification. Pensions get checked occasionally by the police. They check business licenses, identification of the girls on the scene and whether the girls of legal age and are legally in the country. It is rare to be in the middle of one of these checks but it occurs on occasion. They generally hold everyone on the scene until they complete their check. Be patient and cooperate. I know of no tourists ever actually arrested on one of these checks in the 12 years I have been here. One thing that could cause a problem would be to be in possession of illegal drugs. Not the place to have them on you or plan to use them.

You can get a second hotel room on your own dime in SJO in the center of the action and take Uber from your work place to SJO after end of work day. Return back to office early AM or late night depending on your hunger level.

You are right on spot that CR is no longer suitable for finding things in a platter. Delray was a total miss this week with no more than 35 girls during peak times. Sat was dead. Mon Tuesday were dead. Wed a bit better Thursday was slow. Very difficult to find anything worthwhile unless one brings expectations o ground.

Sad to hear about the current state of affairs in the DR. Whatever the reason, don't expect it to turn around anytime soon, if ever. Based on my research thus far on here and another board, I am leaning toward Hotel El Castillo for a 2 week visit in August or September.
Okay, the Morazan has always been my favorite hotel because it's cheap, right in the heart of the gulch, and the people have always been nice. And let's not forget our favorite: Ricky Ricardo, the World's Greatest Bell Boy! LOL.
So okay I was told the new owners took it over about 8 months ago and have renovated. New tv's, new curtains and a few other things here and there. "That's nice" I thought.
I called earlier in the week to make my reservation and the girl who answered the phone said there were plenty of rooms for Thur and Fri and I didn't need one. I thought that seemed odd because I've often seen it full on Fri's in the past so I said "Well let me make a reservation anyway. ".
She insisted I didn't need one so I said okay and g'bye and hung up the phone.
On 2nd thought I decided to go ahead and make one anyway, via expedia. Good thing I did because the place WAS FULL and I might not have gotten a room had I not made my reservation via Expedia. Strike one. Some idiot desk clerk who was apparently too lazy to make a reservation for me!
So I showed up around noon on Thur and check in technically isn't until 3 pm but they usually accommodate me and get me in by 1 or so. I had asked for an interior room because they're quieter and they said they'd try so he said to come back in an hour or so.
I did and they checked me in to a room on the 4th floor, NOT an interior room but I didn't complain, I just wanted to lay down for a while, I was tired from the long trip in to San Jose.
Well as soon as Ricky walked out, I noticed the room stunk from sewage. I went down to the desk and the guy said "Oh. Okay, yeah sometimes it does. But you'll have to wait a while for another room. Here, go up and check this one and he gave me a key and I went up but the new room was still dirty but at least did not stink.
The maid was there and looked at me like what are you doing, didn't you just check into the other room?" I told her it stunk and she went in and said it didn't. I said "Well then there's something wrong with your nose because it definitely does smell and I showed her it was coming from the toilet but the toilet was clean, it was the sewer. She said no and was obviously pissed because I didn't want to take the room.
I said "Well the guy downstairs said yes it does sometimes smell and no I don't want to smell sewer. " I was actually very nice to her but she was starting to make me mad insisting it didn't smell when it obviously did.
In fact soon her manager came up and checked and she confirmed that it smelled and said they'd get me the other room soon.
Long story short it took about 45 min for the maid to get my new room clean because instead of jumping ahead down the line to my room she just went down the hall in order while I sat by the elevator so tired I could barely sit up! WTF?! All she had to do was clean my new room first, but noooooo!
So: yes they renovated the rooms to some degree but.
-the faucet still dripped.
-the lamp had loose wiring to the point it made me think it might catch on fire, and.
-the door key-card didn't work right.
I complained about the key because I didn't want to come up with my girls and have trouble getting into my room at night when there's no staff around to fix it. They said they'd send someone up but never did. Surprise surprise.
I also.
-didn't get a floor towel, and.
-there was no hot water the next morning when I wanted to shower.
Okay so the next day I asked for a floor towel and she gave me one but when I came back I noticed.
-there was no hand towel this time.
I usually get the little chubby maid and she's great but this one really sucked at her job.
I gave her a good tip the first day anyway because I wanted an extra bath towel in case I brought 2 girls back (which I did). She said she'd give me one but I had to wait for some reason. Well.
-she never did bring it so I was short a towel that night.
Meanwhile when I brought back my 2 girls the guy at the desk told me I'd have to pay $25 extra for the extra girl. I said "What? I've been coming here 25 years and never been charged for an extra girl!" New owner, new policy he says. I said I'd pay it for now but would talk to him later.
After the girls left (see my report on that below) I asked him if they could waive the $25 extra charge because I never have been charged that and after all since the room is only $50 a night.
-how do they figure $25 for only one extra girl for one hour, and hell I couldn't even get an extra towel so where is the justification for more money for an extra girl? Where is the added expense?
He said I could take it up with the manager tomorrow so I said I would do that.
On check out the girl at the desk had printed out the fine print policy which did state there was a $25 extra charge but what good is that written policy if they don't tell you that or even show you the paper when you check in?
I said that I didn't mind paying a reasonable extra fee but $25 extra is a gouge and I don't like being gouged. I'm sure someone here will say I'm being too uptight and complaining too much but I disagree. I think it's just unreasonable to charge $25 for one extra guest for one dammed hour! And not even an extra towel.
So while in spite of the lack of towels, the refusal to fix my door key, the lousy lamp, no good place to charge my phone, no hot water in the morning. And now no fruit with breakfast either (now THAT's cutting corners! Fruit is cheap in Costa Rica! I would still stay at the Morazan but for the $25 extra charge. 3 somes are my thing and so that basically increases my room rent 50%! I think $10 extra would be fair.
So. I will now probably go to a different hotel even if it's the same or more money just out of not wanting to be gouged that way.

Have been in Europe and MDE the last 3 years and came back to see how things were here. The quote below sums it up perfectly. As much as I used to like SJO. It's not even about the money anymore. The quality has dropped, prices for everyday things are on par with the US, and for the life of me, I cannot understand how people want to come here after going to Colombia regularly. Lleras in MDE I know is very touristy, but it's still cheaper than SJO, has restaurants that simply do not compare with here in San Jose, and the overall vibe is just WAY more lively I think.
I will say that Del Rey, being 24 x7, and San Jose being pretty friendly / small. There is an appeal to that. But the instant I hear the "$100 or nothing" at 1 am, and just the overall unfriendly nature of the girls here, I sober up pretty fast and find myself in constant on-guard mode. It's pretty irritating, but that's life I guess. In 5+years and 20 trips to Medellin. The del Rey type of place just doesn't exist. In MDE there is: the mansion (good), a ton of strip clubs of all quality (great), Lleras (great) and the daytime parlors (great) -- In San Jose, it's 10 am to 7 pm parlors, strip clubs, and Del Rey. I cannot explain it, but knowing that I can walk in a bar at 2 am, an actual large (non-strip-club) bar / casino, and still see a bunch of girls. That is something Del Rey provides that few cities (including MDE) can.
I realize the above might seem a bit negative, but I'm trying to be obective. And regardless of my preference, I will probably come back to San Jose each year or two. Driving to the beach in 2 hours, and doing ATV tours, and just the fact that I've been coming for so many years. Part of this place still feels like home.
In other news.
1. Key Largo appears to have closed. They haven't been open at all, and say they are renovating. Who knows what that means.
2. Zona (previously Zona Blue, Then Havana, then Zona II, then whatever) and the other sports place next door have now merged owners and its still technically 2 places but connected inside via a small hallway. More girls than before, but roughly similar to about 2-3 years ago.
3. New Fantasy has closed. Not sure what all those 2's and 3's will do for work now.
4. Idem is still open as is one of the two places directly across the street. Exactly the same. 7 girls, 5-7's.
5. 360 is still open. Nothing to report on. 5 girls, 4-6's.
6. Going to try Monica's, not sure if it's still open.

Have been in Europe and MDE the last 3 years and came back to see how things were here. The quote below sums it up perfectly. As much as I used to like SJO. It's not even about the money anymore. The quality has dropped, prices for everyday things are on par with the US, and for the life of me, I cannot understand how people want to come here after going to Colombia regularly. Lleras in MDE I know is very touristy, but it's still cheaper than SJO, has restaurants that simply do not compare with here in San Jose, and the overall vibe is just WAY more lively I think.
I will say that Del Rey, being 24 x7, and San Jose being pretty friendly / small. There is an appeal to that. But the instant I hear the "$100 or nothing" at 1 am, and just the overall unfriendly nature of the girls here, I sober up pretty fast and find myself in constant on-guard mode. It's pretty irritating, but that's life I guess. In 5+years and 20 trips to Medellin. The del Rey type of place just doesn't exist. In MDE there is: the mansion (good), a ton of strip clubs of all quality (great), Lleras (great) and the daytime parlors (great) -- In San Jose, it's 10 am to 7 pm parlors, strip clubs, and Del Rey. I cannot explain it, but knowing that I can walk in a bar at 2 am, an actual large (non-strip-club) bar / casino, and still see a bunch of girls. That is something Del Rey provides that few cities (including MDE) can.
I realize the above might seem a bit negative, but I'm trying to be obective. And regardless of my preference, I will probably come back to San Jose each year or two. Driving to the beach in 2 hours, and doing ATV tours, and just the fact that I've been coming for so many years. Part of this place still feels like home.
In other news.
1. Key Largo appears to have closed. They haven't been open at all, and say they are renovating. Who knows what that means.
2. Zona (previously Zona Blue, Then Havana, then Zona II, then whatever) and the other sports place next door have now merged owners and its still technically 2 places but connected inside via a small hallway. More girls than before, but roughly similar to about 2-3 years ago.
3. New Fantasy has closed. Not sure what all those 2's and 3's will do for work now.
4. Idem is still open as is one of the two places directly across the street. Exactly the same. 7 girls, 5-7's.
5. 360 is still open. Nothing to report on. 5 girls, 4-6's.
6. Going to try Monica's, not sure if it's still open.

San Jose Trip Report: June 29th thru July 3rd, 2018.
Some background information: I have travelled to the Dominican Republic six times in the last 6 years for much needed holidays with beautiful ladies and sunny climates. Four of those six occasions have been travelling to Black Beards (BB) in Puerto Plata and two of those occasions have been to the former Tropical Adult Vacation (TAV) in Boca Chica. I enjoy the lovely chicas that are available on premises at BB, but I found that having the ladies so ever-present on property was a bit of a drag after a while. In short, I have been ready for a new destination that provided shorter travel time than the DR, more upscale facilities with chicas nearby, but not on premises.
I did some research on my own and through ISG, relying heavily on fellow hobbyists such as Geolopes, to guide me towards a better destination. It seemed that Costa Rica was the most affordable and realistic given my budget. I tailored a trip to San Jose, Costa Rica, staying at Hotel Castillo (the sister property to La Amistad), which is a short walk to the Sportsman's Lounge and other hobbyist destinations. It is a remodeled property that I rank among the nicest I have ever patronized. It serves great food, has reasonable rates on classy and spacious rooms, and is very noise-free. Chica friendly, but no chicas on-hand to take to your room. Get the all-inclusive deal for $10/ day extra. It's a no-brainer.
Friday, June 29th: Day 1.

It's best to work things out on a day-to-day basis and not think you are gaining an advantage by making appointments. During my shopping I bought a local unlocked phone and SIM Card. Got it all activated and WhatsApp downloaded. This pays huge dividends. Get a local phone with enough minutes to cover your vacation. Collect numbers to put yourself in control when meeting working girls. You can evaluate the best of the best and not worried about missed appointments if you have a team of working girls phone numbers in your local phone contacts.
Anyhow, to the interesting stuff. Another hobbyist and I from the Castillo decide to walk down to Del Rey and hit some other places along the way and back. Here is a summary.

I have been in San Jose for one week and I have never seen it this slow. This is on both ends and the only advantage is better price negotiation since there a small number of guys to choice from. This is also less females but you still have some tens available and they quickly move from the $ starting price.

This is also less females but you still have some tens available and they quickly move from the $ starting price.I have noticed a steady 20% why / why drop in quality and quantity in San Jose. Del Ray used to have several dozen ladies in the evenings on weekdays but those days are a memory now. Last time I was there, the numbers were and single digits!! Good Lord. Hardly anything to even look at. Massage shops sill managed to save the day but I consider them only fillers. I talked with many of the working ladies and fellow hobbyists that said Jaco is way more expensive (think $150-$200 or more) for the same session. You may have, on average, hotter women in Jaco, but the price for the ticket is way higher. I had a good experience with the level of service and attitude in San Jose and the $100 was in my budget. Had some Southwest Airlines miles burning a hole in my account so decided to return to San Jose this past weekend after about a year and a half absence. If their service is good but nothing special I'll give them 2-3 mil extra ($3-5 at current exchange rates).
If their service is TOP NOTCH I will give them 5 mil which is about $8 if I feel like it, or whatever I have close to that.
If their service is average or less than average I'll give NO tip and if they ask I'll tell them why, as I never plan to see them again anyway.

You have a couple options: you can rent an hour at the Morazan if they're not too busy (so I've heard). And there are places around the Del Rey (not far) that you can rent for an hour for a few dollars. They're not the cleanest but "probably clean enough" for a fuck. I've used them, never caught a bug.
Otherwise just rent the cheapest room at one of the monger hotels just to have it there for your hour of use. ?
The other option might be to look for girls on a "outcall" kind of site but now that Trump's admin has killed Craigslist and Backpage, I don't know where people find traveling girls.

If you have well honed negotiating skills, good selection criteria, and a bit of patience playing the game, you can increases in time / number of sessions instead of a small decrease in price. I would far rather pay 20 or 40 dollars more for a 3 or 4 hour, full GFE session than the lower amount with one pop.If you know your business yes you can pay cien for more than an hour and I have no problem with that.

So I am not going to get deep into details. Just going to give you guys the highlights. I stayed at La Amistad paid the extra $10 for the all inclusive. Hands down the best monger friendly hotel I have ever stayed at. I can't say enough good things about these guys. And what an unbelievable deal the all inclusive is. All the like minded fellows who stay there are cool. Definitely like that clubhouse vibe. Castillo is also great too. Uber from the airport to the hotel costed $16. As far as the ticas go I sampled a wide variety of them. Definitely better off getting colones and negotiating with them. Sportsman had some very nice talent and del Rey was better on Wednesday and Thursday night. I think a lot of the top tier girls go to Jaco to get the big money. Still there was plenty of action. From del Rey and sportsman I was able to negotiate most pulls from 30,000 colones to 40,000 colones. Daytime action Monica's is a great value spot to bang decent young talent for 14 mil no haggling. Stopped in a bunch of other MPs and what not. Believe it or not or not my best session was on Calle 6 at a 6 mil MP. Girl's name was Melissa and she did not disappoint. So this advice isn't for you, but for newbies and also serves as a reminder for some not-so newbies:
One should never walk drunk or impaired, more than a block or two, and one should always remain alert of one's surroundings in San Jose.
Even during the day time, one needs to maintain alertness. Is it teeming with pickpockets and thieves? No, I would not say that. BUT it does happen. I was pick-pocketed once on one of the walking streets, Ave 1 I think it was. One guy bumped into me and another guy amazingly quickly got into my daypack on my back and grabbed what he hoped was my wallet. It was just my eyeglasses. A substantial loss anyway, but could have been worse. Now I carry my backpack on my front, kangaroo style in SJ.
At night of course there may be guys just looking to rob a drunken or semi-conscious gringo, hoping to score some crack or coke. So you just got to be aware of that and know who's around you and behind you etc, at night. If you see someone who might be following you, there's no shame in picking up the pace or running from them if you have to. If they're crack addicts they're usually too out of it to go fast anyway, so walking fast in general is another good practice.
By the way please NEVER GIVE THE BEGGARS IN FRONT OF THE DEL REY MONEY! Several are the same crack addicts that have been there for years. And if you stop to get your money out who knows what could happen. I just speed up and blow by them shaking my head no. I wish the police would drive them out of there but for some reason they don't.

Since I no longer live in South FL I now typically use Google Flights to try to find cheap flights. For currently I always get colons from an ATM once I'm in Costa Rica. I usually stop at an ATM in the airport to get some and then for the remainder of my trip I usually get it from one of the banks near the Del Rey (I typically use one of my banks that don't charge foreign transaction fees by the way). For hotels I always try to book directly with the Hotel Del Rey since I find their price is usually cheaper than if I try to book one of their rooms via Hotels.com or Agoda (which I've used both in the past). The bank on the departure level at the airport offers a fair rate of exchange, but it won't be open if you arrive after 10 pm. DO NOT exchange anywhere on the arrivals level, a floor beneath the departure level. You will get ripped off. When in the gulch, I normally exchange dollars into colones at the Casino Colonial next to the Del Rey, often while eating at their excellent restaurant.
Independents at the Del Rey and Sportsmens Lodge who request, for example, $80.00 for their services will almost always accept 40,000 colones, or 50,000 colones if they demand "cien. " Note the current exchange rate, and you will see why paying in colones is best.

HOTEL:
I stayed at the Taormina which seems very nice but not all the rooms are that great. My last trip there I had a really nice room and very quiet.
This time I had construction noise, dogs barking and wind whipping and whistling into a broken window (not broken glass, I mean the window would not close so it was open an inch around one side, about 5 feet vertical).
So the Taormina is no longer an option for me. If I'm going to pay $85 a night I want it to be nice, and quiet. Otherwise I may as well stay somewhere cheaper.
Another thing: Even at that price the breakfast was not included. Be careful if you book on Expedia because some of the rooms/prices include breakfast and some don't. Last time I got stopped as I was about to eat, with a guy telling me I didn't pay a rate for breakfast included. After we argued about it he let me have it but that's how I learned the hard way that Expedia doesn't make it clear that breakfast is included with some rates, not with others.

Thailand is safe as long as you use your wits, stay in the tourist areas and don't get drunk. Girls in both places want your money! Thai girls work to support their kids and / or their rice farmer parents. They don't ask for cash to support their family. Option One is the Sleep Inn. Since I have I'll have friends there for business, ideally I'd like to stay in a hotel that was respectable enough during that time. When people ask where I'm staying, I don't want to tell them I'm at the SL. So the Sleep Inn is good for that. However, I'd still like to be able to play. So can anyone give an update on the chica fee at this place? If I book 2 adults on my reservation, does the chica fee still apply? Open to other "respectable" hotel options if you have any that fit this option.
Option Two is to book a room close to the event for the weekend, but then stay at the SL or another play hotel for the other nights. Can a guy actually get rest at the SL? Especially if I book in the new mansion wing? Is SL still recommended? I've read that actually staying at HDR is not a great option as I'd like to be able to get some rest as well as play.

You can stay at sleep inn. But, if you can book individual days with you plus a guest. You can even try you plus 2 guest. But, I think they stopped that.
