Hey can anyone help me out with a basic ass question. Basically I'm trying to just add girls numbers to whatsapp from their ads and I just can not get it to work. I have no idea how to fix it. Sorry for the noob stuff guys I promise once I get it all figured out I'm visiting Costa Rica tomorrow and I'll leave reports for every girl I play with. I've tried a couple numbers.If the person has whatsapp associated with that phone number then after you enter their number in your phone directory it should show whatsapp as one of the options for contacting them. If they don't have whatsapp account associated with the number you have in your phone directory then when you try from whatsapp it would send the invitation for them to join. Sometimes it takes a little while for the whatsapp app to check whether that number is connected to a whatsapp account. It used to take overnight sometimes, but generally is almost instantly.

So for my cell phone at home (an Android phone) a Costa Rica number looks like +506 1111 1111. For an American or Canadian number a plus 1 in front of the area code and number.

I just flew into San Jose and spent one night (Wed) at the HDR, before heading to Jaco. Hotel is obviously, nothing special (room wise). Got there about 4 PM to meet some friends and there were several to select from, but most were older or heavier. About 8 or so, the bar area started to increase in selections and the talent level went up. By about 11 or so, there was a nice selection to choose from. Not like it was pre-covid, but solid variety. I fount a very nice, pretty local to have some drinks with and then go up stairs. Very accommodating and great time there. Offered to go to Jaco with me, but wanted to try some of the local fair. It is the rainy season, so the trip to Jaco beach took 4 hours due to the landslides from all the rain. HDR was fine for what you expect and not as dead as some seemed to indicate. Very friendly and fairly low pressure at the bar. Seems like they are happy to get people back there. (casino is still closed) I will post a Jaco report later. Enjoy and stay safe.

But a word of caution. Many of the gals you will meet live in San Jose and "a night on the town" makes them a bit uncomfortable for a few reasons. I suppose if you find a middle class educated gal it might work, but most of the working girls are not used to expensive restaurants. And they also don't want to run into family members or people they know outside of their work in the sex trade. And if a young woman is seen with a gringo everyone can put the pieces together. And it can happen very easily. Anyway. Just be aware of that if the girl seems hesitant. In those situations the girls would often be comfortable in the Del Mar (part of the Del Rey. Across the street), or the Sportsmens restaurant / bar, or the restaurant attached to the Taormina perhaps. And the Del Mar and the restaurant in the Taormina are supposed to be great. Sportsmens is more a bar style, but food is great, just not ambience for a quiet dinner for two.

I can't see the big deal of letting them in the bars, they would add an exotic note to the places. If that's your thing go for it, if not, go for someone else. Open mindness is the first quality needed for just walking into one of those places, I can't see why anyone would care about a tranny.

1) Many men would be embarrassed to be seen picking up a tranny and a bar is much more visible than a dark street corner.
2) Some men find themselves attracted to trannies at first glance, but have a bad reaction when they find out during conversation or feeling the tranny up that it is in fact not a woman (some trannies don't make it obvious). Not a scene a bar owner wants repeatedly played out in his place.
3) Historically in San Jose (and some other monger haunts) trannies are more known than girls for pick pocketing and mugging. The 'tranny street or park' was a common topic in the Gringo Gulch 10 to 15 years ago. It was an area to avoid at night as there were a lot of trannies that would lure guys in (can't tell from distance) and then rob them.

She's typically working as a means to an end; and in a country where the average monthly salary is $500 - you read that correctly, monthly. Who can blame her. Easily spotted, she's dressed relatively normally, with polite mannerisms. Approach her and confirm your impressions with a 5 minute conversation and off you go.
I do understand what you're saying. There are plenty of girls who are loud and ridiculously dressed, and of course these are not girls for a dinner date. With a few drinks they can be a great fling, but no way would you spend the entire evening.

I stayed at Little Havana, great value and 2 minute walk to Taormina, daytime activities also available at Havana.

Taormina is the best as of last month. Check Sportsmen and Del Rey as well. I stayed at Little Havana, great value and 2 minute walk to Taormina, daytime activities also available at Havana.Castillo has a few that hang around starting around 11 am till maybe 9 pm.

A last minute work request has brought me to San Jose for a few days. Here's a quick recap of the first 24 hours.
I flew American Airlines out of Miami and while the flight was delayed, it didn't cause too much of a concern. Upon arrival, got off the plane on the tarmac, and took a 5 min bus ride to the terminal. There was no queue for immigration and after a few simple questions from the immigration officer, I was on my way. I took a taxi to my airbnb in Rohrmoser as I didn't want to be hassled with an Uber and the politics of that upon arrival. Dropped off my luggage and unpacked before heading out to the Taormina. Total cost for the taxi was about 15 k colones with a legitimate metered rate.
Took an uber from my airbnb to Hotel Taormina ($4) and easily checked in around 8 pm. Reception speaks English and found it simple to communicate. They wanted to make it clear that the rate to bring guests up was around $15 if the guest spent more than four hours in the room. After checking in, the only minor issue was that the safe did not work. A quick call to the front desk cleared that up.
Went down to the casino bar and found approximately 15 women in the area. Many gentlemen were older (65 +) and had young ladies with them. As suggested, I found it best to pay with cash upfront for drinks. Every time I ordered a drink, I had to be specific and requested to close out my bill right away. The bartenders are quite forgetful after making your drink so it was important to be direct.
At around 9/10 pm, the police showed up and checked the legal paperwork of all of the working girls. I suspect that this is a common occurrence as some seemed unfazed by the routine inspection. Others scurried away and the scene died down for a bit at this time. However, the police did not cause any issue with the guests and I happily walked by them drinking my corona.
Later in the evening, I ended up taking 2 up to my room and negotiated them down to 60 k each. Sadly, I do not recall their names. One was quite young, inexperienced and was markedly nervous while the other was older, more mature and offered to show her the ropes with confidence. We spent a good part of two hours together engaging in an array of massage, cunnalingus and varied positions. Condoms changed in between.
Overall, a fun experience. The girls at the bar want to see how much they can get out of you. Pay attention to your drink order and pay by cash upfront to avoid any potential issues. While I did enjoy myself, I did find it a bit off putting to be constantly asked to buy a woman a drink and $150 fees. Having some spanish skills certainly helps.

I was in SJ Nov 11-15. My 1st trip to CR. I made an effort to educate myself about the dynamics and situation in SJ from internet research before arriving. That turned out to be not much help. So, now I'm a member here in ISG hoping to get more current and accurate info prior to my next trip.
I booked at Holiday Inn in thinking it was a good idea based on location. At check in I saw the sign at the desk that said $75 guest fee. It's clearly not a girl friendly hotel. My 1st night I walked over to the DR about 4 p. I met a follow American traveler at the bar who had 2 girls sitting with him he introduced me to. He had scheduled one of the girls to meet him there when he arrived, the other he met for the 1st time after he arrived. He told me the Taomina hotel was better and that I could meet him over there about 9 p. He said he had a room at both DR and Taomina. He took his scheduled girl upstairs. I was talking to the one he left behind and another that pushed her way into the conversation. I figured I could invest in conversation to educate myself and bought them a couple drinks. They told me $100 for 1 HR. Not having much of a reference, and knowing I was certainly getting a Gringo newbie price, I explained it wasn't going to happen until maybe much later in the evening as the night was young and I wanted to explore. They then told me I owed them $50 for taking up their time talking. Now, if they had been buying the drinks instead of me, I might follow that logic but, as I was paying and their asses weren't glued to the chairs, I laughed at them and left. Lucky there was no scene or drama. I showed up at Taomina around 9:30 to find my new best friend with two girls. I had a good time talking to ones that caught my eye. This time I made it clear I was not going to buy them more than drinks and things were fine with the ground rules clear. I didn't have a hotel I could bring a girl to and wasn't looking to double pay for Holiday Inn and girl friendly hotel my 1st night. I stopped in DR for a final, final and met a girl who told me I would be happier at Sportsman Lodge. 2nd night I went to SL. She obviously sized me up and know I would fit in with older, expat Americans in a sports bar environment. I really liked that place. SI sent the rest of my days there. The girl that recommended the place to me came in about 8 p and we had a good laugh. She figured I owed her something for the good advice and maybe I did. I bought her a few drinks and then about room at SL for $79 and had ST with her for $100 inc tip. Not remarkable but, no regrets. Girls seem to be the same regardless of DR, SL & Taomina. In fact, they all likely make the circuit as the one I met did. They girls at SL all stuck to the starting price of $100 for 1 HR. Maybe that's was best old Gringos get. I met a hottie I paid $160 for LT 2 pops. I couple nights in a row. Paid $50 for a 1 HR bad session with a 3. I regret that. I would really like to schedule girls in advance for my trip in Jan. To the DR. M 1st trip to DR as well. Will be in BC for about 4 days. I prefer the fake GFE and having the girl around for meals and hanging at the beach. Some buses go in to San Jose, others the other direction, so you need to ask, if you take the bus. That is the cheapest. If you wait there for an Uber I would wait till I got out there to contact Uber, because they may get there really fast. Be there, not right where buses are but a place where and Uber could pull over to pick you up, and request the Uber.

I really don't think it will be getting any better down the road. Attractive chicas have more options these days, and the $80 or $100 US that they might get goes nowhere compared to a few years back. Lots of gals have quit the business, gone online, etc. The asking prices and what they get has not changed in the 12 years I have been going there. But the cost of living has easily doubled.

I think the key is that they don't want to be seen as a monger hotel as they have normal tourist guests, families, etc. So they want to keep it discreet, and the fee is to discourage it, but because of their location there is a real demand from mongers for rooms there.

Sorry for the dumb questions. My first trip to San Jose.For the first time visitor, my advice is to stick to one of the normal monger venues (Sportsmens, Castillo, Amistad, Taomina, Del Rey). While management of the normal hotels doesn't care about the sex trade, per se, the gringos, and especially the gringas, who stay there absolutely do care and complain. Since they bring in more dollars for the hotels than we do, guess who is going to win that battle? Camping in your hunting grounds makes better sense, and spares you the awkwardness of walking the very obvious ho across the lobby under the less than approving gaze of mom and her tween age daughters.
Reports on CRT indicate the guest fee at the sleep inn is $38. I have no personal experience as I always stay at the Sportsmens or the Castillo.

I have visited Santo Domingo several times over the years, and me and a couple of friends who had never been arrived for a weeks stay. We flew into SDQ, and we exchanged money at the airport and bought liquor due to the time we arrived. Being that this was my friends 1st time coming I had already tried to vet them so that they would minimize from taking to many L's (bad decisions). I bought a couple of bottles of whiskey, Friend A- loves Hennessy so he bought a bottle of white Hennessy (which he has never tried bcuz they don't sell in the US) Friend be- bought som tequila. We rented a mini Suv from the airport and headed to the Jaragua / Casibo Hotel. The price was $120 a night but I like the safety of the hotel. Very nice hotel, with hotel security 24 hours, you can not get on elevator without room key, and you can only go to the room keys floor. They are Chica friendly but you have to check them in as your guest and they take the chicas ID and photocopy it before she can go to your room.
After we checked in, we went to the Sambil Mall to eat. I always try to get the nonpro girls first. We stopped and talked to (or tried to talk to) every pretty girl there. It was a lot of pretty girls there and that worked there. I do not know much Spanish so my approach is very simple, Hello How are? And they reply "No English". It is very nice but only had been opened a few days when I was there a few weeks ago. I would imagine it will be very popular. Jaco has a few clubs. Orange Bar is just across the bridge from the Cocal. A nice mixture of working girls and locals. A new club opened recently called Republik. Just 50 m from the Cocal on the main drag. It is brand new, built from the ground up. Reports indicate they are getting good crowds but I haven't been there yet. Pictures on their website look like it is a nice place. Due to it's proximity to the Cocal, I am going to assume most of the chicas are working.
Not saying these places will compare to anything in Rio but they are a heck of a lot closer and cheaper to get to.

Day-4.
After we ate Breakfast we decided to go exploring, so we went to La Saban Metropolitan Park, maybe 5 miles from the king. There was a very nice Holiday inn Sky house there, so we went to check out prices. The front desk was located on the 18th floor. On the 18th Floor, was the Hotel receptionist and a very nice bar. Also, there was a huge balcony that overlooked the National Stadium Of Costa Rica. Very nice stadium. The cost was $200 a night and $100 per extra guest. We left there and went to the area called Escazu. If you are a gambler, they have a very nice casino called the Grand Casino Escazu. We played a few hands of blackjack and then we headed to the mall.
We told that the Multiplaza Escazu was the finest mall in Costa Rica. It was impressive! It had majority of higher end US stores, it was 3 or 4 levels but I can't recall specifically and it was huge. You could tell this had to be the higher end part of Costa Rica by the people that was at the mall. We were on the hunt trying to get some girls, I met a couple and got their whatsapp. I met one tica that was very pretty a little older and she was teacher. There is not really a "new" wing, but the more expensive mansion rooms are in a historical mansion that is at the back and is also quiet, but more expensive and the rooms may be more modernized than the club house part.

I am looking to have say four encounters, one during the daytime and one in the evening / night on each of the days. I have tentatively booked myself in the Taormina Hotel. Could any of you kindly help me plan in detail my itinerary, by putting yourselves in my shoes, to get the best out of the two days? Some specific questions area:
1. Is Taormina is still one of the best places to stay to take a chica to the room? Given that, which is the best place to pick one up?

Could any of you kindly help me plan in detail my itinerary, by putting yourselves in my shoes, to get the best out of the two days? Some specific questions area:
1. Is Taormina is still one of the best places to stay to take a chica to the room? Given that, which is the best place to pick one up?
2. Do any of the massage parlors offer full service? Which ones are likely to these days? I am less interested in a happy ending stuff like a HJ or a BJ. Full service is my thing.
If someone creative can draw a play-by-play plan from late morning of Jan 17 to the late morning of Jan 19 for me, it would be ideal.Try Monicas early they are open at 9 am. And then Taormina, Sportsmans, Castillo, Del Rey afternoon and evenings. You should have no issues.

I cannot thank you enough. Again, although I could have probably compiled my own itinerary, the creative minds here will most likely come up with a superior plan, I am sure.Any of the regular monger hotels are fine for bringing a girl back to the room. These include the Taormina, the Del Rey, the Sportsmens, the Castillo and the Hotel Little Havana. Of these the Taormina and the Del Rey will charge a guest fee for EVERY guest you take up to the room. You should email the hotel if this is a concern to you. The fee should be $20 or less but you should confirm. You can pick up a freelancer at any of these places. The Sportsmens will be the best (and not great) before 3 pm. The Castillo is good around dinner time, 5 to 7, The Taormina in the Sports bar will start getting busy around 6 pm and will stay the busiest until at least midnight. The Del Rey is 24 x 7 but really doesn't get too busy until around 10 or 10:30.
Keep in mind that even though the Taormina charges a guest fee it could still end up as cheap or cheaper than staying at the Castillo or Sportsmens as their room prices are higher except for the really small or undesirable rooms. This will depend on the rate you get from the hotel. The nice thing about the Castillo is they have an all inclusive option. 3 meals, free laundry, free local beers and liquor. If you eat or drink a lot it can be economical. Only staying two nights you would not be able to take advantage of some of the other benefits of the all inclusive like free transport back to the airport, discounted transport to Jaco, etc.
It is probably too late to book either the Castillo or the Sportsmens and get a decent room. Most of the ones available will probably be the least desirable. I would never recommend staying at the Del Rey but that is just my personal preference. For a two night stay, the Taormina will be great. Unlike the other hotels the Taormina has pretty much standard rooms and they are pretty good. Kind of reminds me of a Courtyard or Hilton Garden Inn in the states.
On my trip next week I am staying four nights at the Taormina, going to Panama City for 6 nights then returning to San Jose for 5 nights at the Castillo.
The massage parlors are called pensiones. From a legal perspective the women rent the room from the establishment and you pay them for service. Almost all offer covered full service but a lot will charge more for extras (BBBJ, CIM, DFK). Be sure to negotiate the total charge up front based on what you want to happen and for how long. Even with extras they are usually more economical than.
Regular freelancers.
Before noon, your best best are the pensiones. You will find the occasional freelancer in the Sportsmens, Del Rey, Taormina before noon but they are usually not the greatest quality. Monicas pension is probably the highest rated for gringos. It is a somewhat long walk from any of the gringo hotels but a cheap uber ride. Relax is also pretty close and well reviewed.
If you session early in one of the pensiones, I would just grab one from the Taormina after dinner. If noone suits you, the Sportsmens, Del Rey and Castillo are all within walking distance (but up a steep hill). After dark, especially since you are a newbie. Take a cab. A lot of pirate taxis are out front of all of the hotels (except the Castillo). They will generally charge you 2000 colones (about $3. 50) to go to any of the other hotels. Uber or metered taxi will be cheaper but you will have to wait. Just ask the driver "cuantos del rey (or sportsmens or Castillo)" If the respond for anything more than "dos mil" (2000) go on to the next one. Have exact change and don't confuse the 1000 colones bill with the 20000. They are a similar color in the dark.

I'm planning to go to San Jose in April. It will be my first visit to Costa Rica. After having read several posts on this forum, I booked a room for 1 week at the Sportmen's Lodge. They reserved me a room in the Club House. Now I'm not sure about this room. Is it private enough and will I be able to get some sleep? I asked the people of the SL and they assured me that the room is private and quiet but of course they would not say otherwise. Perhaps I should upgrade to a room in the new wing? The only issue with a room in the bar area. Is the smirks and ribbing you'll get if you do a daytime session or two. A few years ago. A guy took 3 girls in a row to his room. He got a few looks and good natured ribbing after the first one. Applause after the second one. As he exited the room with his third girl of the afternoon. He came out in his underwear to a standing ovation. It was pretty hilarious and he was very kool about it. Taking a bow and ordering shots for the guys at the bar. You'll have a ball. I'll be there for my 10th Super Bowl this year. Great place!I don't think the rooms around the bar and off of the entry are part of the clubhouse. The clubhouse part is to your right and past the manager's office as you go by the front desk, and the rooms are part of what was a separate building at one time, and they are quiet normally. You do not hear much if anything from the bar area back there. But your comments are applicable if you do get a room around the bar, or off the main entry hallway even. I've stayed in 3 or 4 or the rooms around the bar area, and it is a bit strange, and noisy at times.
The Club House is a very quiet section. I do believe however there are two rooms in the Club House section that share a bathroom. Be sure to read the description of the exact room on their website. I am assuming you booked directly on the hotel web site so you picked your exact room.I was mistaken. There are not any rooms in the clubhouse that share a bathroom. There is one larger room that does have 2 queen beds in it though and that takes up a lot of the space. One of my favorite rooms, Amistad, is in the clubhouse area and I feel it is a great deal (for the Sportsmens) at $99.
Only real issue with the Clubhouse area was that the wifi coverage was a little spotty the last time I was there.
As far as the different areas of the hotel you have:
The clubhouse: A group of rooms to the left of the reception counter. These are isolated by a heavy door that eliminates most noise from the bar. These rooms are older and were part of the original hotel.
The courtyard: These rooms surround the bar area. From a layout perspective one of the nicest rooms in the hotel is in this area, the Presidential Suite. A huge space with a large front room, large bedroom and a walk-in shower you could have a party in. Priced at only $115. But the bedroom sits right beside where the security guard sits that checks all of the women's ID's. You can hear him through the wall when he whispers. Imagine what he can hear. All of the other rooms will get the bar noise until it closes at midnight. These rooms were also part of the original hotel.
The modern wing - Smaller but newer rooms behind the back bar. You will get some bar noise and if you get a room by the public toilet back there you will hear a lot of chica chatter. If someone is throwing a party in the Penthouse you will probably hear it.
The mansion wing - The newest and most lavish rooms in the back of the hotel. Many have large jacuzzis and also a regular tub / shower or walk-in shower. These rooms run for $119 to $179.
The Penthouse Suite - A huge, multi-level room with a loft. Really designed to throw a large party.
The Sportsmens, if you book through their site, shows you availability of each individual room and you can book the room you want. There is also a room by room floor plan on the site.

Full service is my thing..It sounds like we are in the same age and experience category. I stayed at the Taormina for 3 days last year on the front end of my annual Superbowl Trip. The room was actually very comfortable and the staff was very friendly much like the Sportsman. The Restaurant was also good and had a terrific breakfast. What was lacking was girls during the day. I've been doing CR continuously even during the Pandemic in 2020. I've seen a noticeable decrease in girls at both the Sportsman and Taormina (with the caveat that Friday nights at Taormina get very crowded). Daytime action in the afternoon is definitely the Sportsman. During my 3 days Super Bowl 2022 I saw a few stragglers in the casino. None that I would pay. The problem I encountered at the Sportsman during the day while staying at the Taormina is that the girls don't want to leave for an hour appointment to go back and forth unless it is a very slow day at the Sportsman which it never is around the Super Bowl.
Sincerely, I don't know what to tell you about daytime activity if you're staying at Taormina unless another board member can give you an update or two on a pension.
I'll be interested to see how the Del Rey is this year? I stopped in last year when it first re-opened. It was terrible. Ugly old women and aside from a few slot machines no table games. It wasn't worth the effort then.
Monicas pension is probably the highest rated for gringos.Be advised that you are on your own here. If you get to the room and the girl refuses to keep aspects of the agreement, even to the point of refusing to fuck which happened to me once as well as a friend on a different day, there's no recourse. The owner just sits behind his barred window, will talk about what a great reputation the girl has, or throw up his hands and recite the every trite, "Well that's women for you. " About any other spot in town will at the very least return the room rental portion of the $ collected, but not him.
Also there, and at some other like places in San Jose, anyone can go to the pay window and snatch a girl from you if you are taking a moment to talk to her and work out a deal. This is a favorite move of the passive-aggressive Ticos (male Costa Ricans). This happened to me on one occasion there. I got the BBBJ straight and told the girl "Vamos" (Let's go) but a Tico weasel had slithered up to the pay window, and the owner was out in the lobby before the girl and I had time to stand up LOL, towels in his hand, calling the girl's name and pointing her to her Tico customer. And that's ironic also given that so many "massage" places in San Jose walk on eggshells trying to stay on the other side of pimping laws. In Colombian casas the girl decides who her customer is, as she has the choice as to whether to present herself to a potential customer in the waiting room. Staff never tells her who she is going to the room with.
All that said I haven't been to Costa Rica in almost five years. Once you do Colombia there's no turning back for a lot of us. Each to his own and have fun out there gentlemen.
I was in San Jose this last weekend. Saturday afternoon the Sportsmen was dead. As in, no chicas at all dead. Some early afternoon action at the Taormina but nothing really attractive. Also, the Jungle Bar at the Taormina was roped off Friday and Saturday. No idea why.
Can anyone tell me if the Blue Marlin is open 24 Hrs and also are there girls still around the bar at 5:00 am in the morning. I am flying to Colombia next month and I have a lay over till evening.

As you said, your last experience with Monicas pension was five years ago. Which isn't especially relevant as my report is factual and the owner / manager of the pension is still the same. He's not liable to change his ways to any real degree at his age. Wink.
While I am not a fan of pensiones as I prefer my own bed, I have had many friends visit Monicas since CR opened up after Covid, all with positive reports. Responsive and helpful management, decent price and no reports of any denials of service.Then you have no first hand experience, and I'm afraid you also missed the point. The issue wasn't the "denial of service" as you can run into an idiot girl working in any brothel. It was how the owner / manager Robert responded to the situation. The girl was intimidated by my size even though I'm only a little more than average. LOL Plus I had lube with me. Sex was refused and Robert wouldn't bother even with an apology, much less a replacement girl or a total or partial refund like about any brothel / pension / casa, whatever you want to call them, around the world would offer.
He also has a, and I quote, "whoever pays first" policy which allows someone to hit the pay window and snatch a girl away from a customer who is talking to her and working a deal. That's bad business as it very much disrespects both the customer and the girl as they are having a conversation and negotiating. If the guy has been talking to the girl a long time then it's fair for someone to put him on the spot and ask if he wants to take her. However for Robert to abruptly jump out of his cage, towels under his arm and direct the girl to a customer who slithered up to the pay window behind our backs is beyond obnoxious. I did encounter the same at one other place in San Jose, Pension 69 which is now closed. This was actually more obnoxious, as this spot is also a bar, and the girl had a fresh drink in front of her that I bought her. The gringo owner of the Pirate Club back then who I know said such would never happen on his watch. I've never had anything like that happen in Colombia, and have spent at least 25 months there over the last 7 years.
But to sum it up, I'm not spending at Robert's business. I'm also liable to share this info anytime someone recommends the place. Know that if you go there you might wind up on the wrong end of some bad business behavior from management like was just articulated, but that doesn't mean you're guaranteed a bad time. If that were the case his doors wouldn't be open.
Anyway I'm done with this one. I'll leave it to whatever audience may be here to hash it out, attack the messenger, erect straw men, agree, disagree, write a good review for the place, whatever suits you. Have fun out there gentlemen and be safe.

It was more laid back feeling in San Jose vs. In Tijuana, especially when I want to spend a full week. But, it seems that San Jose / Hotel Del Rey has dried up after covid? And not many girls there? It has happened in the past, and I think the rule was that nothing should happen in the SL, but if the arrangement was made to meet somewhere else it was tolerated. Not so sure if that is even allowed these days. One of the former employees there pushed the limits on all of that and lost her job. Not sure of all the circumstances around that.
I would recommend against trying. Keep it fun and light. There are many many other options. Just my 2 colones worth.

I don't want to land there and realize its a dead city. I visited san jose last in 2018, so basically loved it then, but trying to understand if it is worth visiting today and enough girls are there during day and night times OR should I just go to Tijuana.

Besides, it was a complicated story of back taxes, municipal permits, possibly 2 ownership changes, although that is all rumor, and eventually giving up the Key Largo part to the city / government, probably to settle tax issues, although that is speculation. If you want to complicate it more there were nuns involved, a senile or ill owner, his girlfriend or whatever she was, and finally the group that now owns the Taormina, and misc. Other things. The promised renovation turned out to be minimal, new paint and a bit of upgrade on the main floor area, but I hear the rooms are not any different. Casino not reopened yet last I heard, although it has been "any day" for about a year.

I've been at least 8 times since Jan 2022 Here is what I know from what I've paid or been told by my regulars. I was actually curious to hear other forum members most recent info (updates) on pricing. San Jose area, Taormina, Sportsmen, Del Rey they will ask for 150 for short time expecting you to counter at 100 which they immediately accept Worth 1 HR or till you pop. The hotter girls won't usually budge from 100 price. You may get lucky earlier in the day or late night when a girl has made her rounds in the Gringo Gulch and had few to no takers. Sometimes they turn down men they expect to be too well endowed and sometimes they accept less for nationalities that may be known to be less well endowed and that usually finish quick like 80 dollars. So in June last year for example 70 mil would have been $100 US, now it is 54 mil. Rather than "lying cunts" though I'd say most are just content with the mediocre, are too scared to move on so get defensive when Costa Rica is rightly criticized. "Most" mongers have moved on because there are much better venues. Anyone who prefers Costa Rica, though he may claim has spent a lot of time in Colombia, hasn't. That or he has mobility issues and needs to stay in one spot. Even still Medellin has the Mansion for those too timid or unable to go out and wants everything delivered.
Also in the years leading into the pandemic the typical hookers hanging around the Del Rey were as hardcore as they come, some flat out rude, with most demanding payment in advance for rushed, no GFE service. They had a union of sorts with the queen bees whipping the others in line. By most reports the Cocal in Jaco is the same, a lot of demands for advance payment and GFE well outside the norm. Anyone who thinks that scene compares to Colombia is simply lost, where GFE IS the norm with the independents while the girls as a whole are hotter, and the prices are even lower. It's a no brainer. Though Costa Rica will still look good to guys in small town America where there's no pay for play at all.
The condition of the Del Rey rooms is irrelevant as the girls were the draw, and a lousy one at that in the later years. The better rooms there though were't far behind the Taormina.
P.S. As to the dangers, you can get jumped on the streets of San Jose CR just as fast as Medellin, if not faster. Probably faster if comparing in and near Gringo Gulch, San Jose to the better neighborhoods where most stay in Medellin. Plus Medellin is just a more developed, cleaner city. For example you'd never find a place there like the maggot and grunge infected MPs on 6th street that literally haven't seen a mop in 20 years. Anyone who walks in one of those places and stays doesn't have a soul. Colombians are just too clean and responsible to allow a business like that to exist.
I have lived in both Medellin and San Jose and have visited both fairly recently. I prefer San Jose for several reasons. It's more walkable. The food is better (although still not great, but the food in MDE is just bad). You can find a woman who is not made of plastic. I lived exactly in the gulch and never had a problem in six months, whereas in MDE, I had three problems in three months (talking robbery attempts, police corruption, crooked taxistas). Having said that, the Del Rey always sucked and was always for rookies and nosepickers in my opinion. Yes, Colombia is cheaper, but if you speak Spanish, San Jose is cheap enough for the average gringo.

No big surprise and no big loss with the HDR closing. But, Costa Rica is still a viable destination! Maybe you just had bad experiences. It's still my number one destination for a safe experience. If I like Costa Rica women and the Pura Vida vibe of its people I go to CR.
If I like the music festivals held at beginning of the year like BPM in Tamarindo I go to CR.
If I like the white sandy beaches and great surf spots I go to CR.
If I already met a few solid regulars that give me GFE I keep going to CR.
GFE is more about whether you speak Spanish and the girl can have a fun time with you.
CR was one of first spots to not require vaccination and the Testing site at airport made things super smooth.
No negative test required either unlike Colombia as of late.
And you can still go to Costa Rica even with less than one month left on US passport.
You can start using US dollars right when you get in country until you find a better exchange than airport.
Many direct flights from NY area.
I've walked from Tao to Castillo to Sportsmen then Del Rey and back solo late at night many a time with no issues.
Beaches close to major airports SJO or Liberia.

Went to the Taormina a couple of nights. They've built a new bar downstairs in the old garage. Very crowded. My sidekick got into it with the waitress the last night. Gave us someone else's bill, she was drunk (drinking shots all night with locals). He's an accountant and the bill was padded with someone else's drinks. Total shit show. The manager finally straightened the situation out but the ill will killed the last night. The manager clearly saw we were older 50's, not drunk (two drinks each) and the bill was $200 dollars. She was obviously throwing her friends and her drinks on our bill and probably others. Moral to the story. Pay for every drink when it arrives. But my buddy insisted on using his credit card (another mistake IMO).
On another note. They built a poker room to the right of the main lobby entrance. Played a couple of nights (won a little) . Good game, very friendly and appears to be honest IMHO.
I might change up next year and stay at Taormina. The SL is getting old. Seems like the same girls and bar maids have been there for the last 12 years. LOL.

Local term would be "Hotel de Paso".
Ones I've heard of are "Eden by Fantasy Rooms" or "Hotel de paso Estrella".

Anything called a motel is one. There are many other hotels downtown that offer short term room rates, and there is no specific term that I know of for those. One well known one is "La Oficina" and it is not at all upscale, but serves the purpose.

I had very good luck on finding beautiful women 7+ on seeking. At the sportmans there were 8 women just before 6 pm and they were all butterfaces or only the face. Try seeking 200 -300 gets you guaranteed good looking fun. I'm sure spanish speakers and people who spend lots of time here can get way cheaper even for these women.

Spent two days at the Sportsman Lodge before going home Sunday post Super Bowl.
Took two late 20 somethings to the room for a couple of hours. Both asked $200 for a couple of hours. Negotitated $150 for one pop GFE I. E. Covered FS and BBBJ. Nothing memorable.

Though you could have been more tactful (wink) this about true. Rather than "lying cunts" though I'd say most are just content with the mediocre, are too scared to move on so get defensive when Costa Rica is rightly criticized. "Most" mongers have moved on because there are much better venues. Anyone who prefers Costa Rica, though he may claim has spent a lot of time in Colombia, hasn't. That or he has mobility issues and needs to stay in one spot. Even still Medellin has the Mansion for those too timid or unable to go out and wants everything delivered.
Also in the years leading into the pandemic the typical hookers hanging around the Del Rey were as hardcore as they come, some flat out rude, with most demanding payment in advance for rushed, no GFE service. They had a union of sorts with the queen bees whipping the others in line. By most reports the Cocal in Jaco is the same, a lot of demands for advance payment and GFE well outside the norm. Anyone who thinks that scene compares to Colombia is simply lost, where GFE IS the norm with the independents while the girls as a whole are hotter, and the prices are even lower. It's a no brainer. Though Costa Rica will still look good to guys in small town America where there's no pay for play at all.
The condition of the Del Rey rooms is irrelevant as the girls were the draw, and a lousy one at that in the later years. The better rooms there though were't far behind the Taormina.
P.S. As to the dangers, you can get jumped on the streets of San Jose CR just as fast as Medellin, if not faster. Probably faster if comparing in and near Gringo Gulch, San Jose to the better neighborhoods where most stay in Medellin. Plus Medellin is just a more developed, cleaner city. For example you'd never find a place there like the maggot and grunge infected MPs on 6th street that literally haven't seen a mop in 20 years. Anyone who walks in one of those places and stays doesn't have a soul. Colombians are just too clean and responsible to allow a business like that to exist.I guess you'the have to question why so many Colombians are in Costa Rica and Panama nowadays!

Does anyone have any recommendations?I would hit the "gringo" bars in San Jose and "interview" the ones that strike your fancy, someone you think would be fun both in and out of bed. Don't arrange an all-day through the internet without spending a short time with her first. Too easy to be stuck with someone who you really don't want to spend the day with. And just for basic info the gringo bars I would check (in no particular order) are the Sportsmens Lodge, the bar at the Hotel Castillo, the Taormina, the Hotel Little Havana and the Blue Marlin Bar at the Del Rey Hotel. There's really no telling which bar is going to be the busiest on any given night as the women move around based on the number of available gringos. They are all walking distance from each other in the daytime and an inexpensive Uber or taxi at night.

Hopefully your their Thursday through the weekend to have more to pick from. If not you still might get lucky finding a gem Sun to Wed at those Hotels. Taormina will be busier than Sportsmen and not sure if Del Rey reopened. You can screen your girls the first day or two sport fuc*ing just make sure you keep your valuables in the Safe. And like always never leave your open drinks out unattended. Or smoke or take their stash of substances. Don't get too wasted and be extra vigilant when you have two girls in the room at same time. Once you find your girl ID take taxis to and from museums or restaurants. Ask the place or restaurant and they can hail you a red cab to get back to hotel or next destination. Like other members stated lots can go wrong walking the streets of San Jose with a girl you barely know so I wouldn't go that route Any Pro would be stoked to give you a day rate and GFE. Expect 300 to 500 for a daily rate if you are covering meals and entrance to activities. Try to negotiate for unlimited sex in the day or at least 3 times in the day. Novillo Alegre or Esquina de Buenos Aires are great for a nice steak dinner. Expect comparable pricing to a US steak house. Also Expect the day to end by nightfall unless you line up multiple days in a row. All girls love trips to Jaco Beach as well. Just stay at a well known hotel like Crocs, Cocal, or Villa Caletas. Some don't like to bring sand to the beach but if you vibe well with a girl from San Jose and like the service its not a bad idea because prices rise considerably once you're in Jaco meeting chicas. Speaking Spanish helps to receive more of a girlfriend experience Have fun. Be safe!!

First Don was the owner, then Bill and Bill bought it together, then Bill bought out the other Bill. Last time I was there it had been torn down and a department store built there. I was there when they found about a 10 foot Boa Constrictor inside one of the walls of the patio. I have some more pictures of Bill somewhere but no idea where.

Pension 360 - room was a bit hot but nice that they had furniture besides bed, like one of those S-shaped chairs.
Hotel Del Rey Bar. I saw a few better looking women, but a lot of them don't seem better than the ones in the pensiones, but they are asking 2-3 x as much. I guess some people like the experience of finding girls right in their hotel, or chatting at the bar first, so they pay the extra.
I met one girl at one of the hotel bars, but I wasn't staying there, so we went to this cheap hourly hotel nearby that she knew. It wasn't pretty, but it worked.
One negative about some pensiones is that they are on crappy streets. Literally. It doesn't help my mood to step by human feces on the road on the way there.

I would not try to bribe the security guys. But there may be leeway if you had someone arrive before and leave a bit after 10. If the security gave you a hard time you could apologize and give them a bit for the trouble. That would probably work. Keep your valuables out of sight, and don't let the chica out of your sight. And your valuables will likely be fine.

Really appreciate any help.The problem with violating the after 10 pm rule is that the host can and some do, give you the boot for violating the terms and conditions of the rental agreement. And this would be without any refund for your unused nights. I personally wouldn't risk it unless I was sure the security guard would turn a blind eye. As the previous pster said, you might be better off in on of the guest friendly hotels in the area. Or just plan your day around early encounters that end by 10 pm.

Taormina is the best place in these times for finding entertainment, but they do charge guest fees. Ask them directly for prices but there is a short time and overnight fee per guest. Sportsmens, Castillo, and Havana do not have these extra fees. All of these places are a sober walk or drunk uber away from Taormina. Taormina has good breakfast that is included I believe, but again check with them directly.

Last weekend. Went to Taormina, and Del ray. The talent was better at Taormina. But, when I didn't see something I wanted at one I went to the other. I wish I had more time, because I didn't get to hit the pension. Every now and then you can find a diamond. Del ray still doesn't have the casino open. I heard it might be political. It would be ashamed if we lose Del Rey. Competition is good for our hobby. The downstairs in Taormina is really nice. P.S. I suck at poker, LOL.

I'm back in Costa Rica for the first time since I was here for a few days pre-covid at the end of January into the first few days of February 2020. Wow has things changed in this almost 3 1/2 years. First I was shocked to see they had removed the atms from the airport so now your only option is to use the money exchange places. That's assuming you have money to even exchange which I didn't have to begin with. I did still have some colones on me from my last trip (more on that later LOL). As usual I'm staying at the Hotel Del Rey as I have for most of my previous trips. I arrived a little before 11 pm and I was shocked when we rolled up as it was looking pretty dead. In the past on a Friday night at the HDR there would be lots of taxis and lost of girls / guys coming and go, but this time that wasn't the case at all. I'd have wondered if the place was even open if I'd not seen a few guys coming out as I was getting out of the taxi LOL. When I wen to check-in the inside was pretty dark and of course I see the area where all the gaming machines used to be along with some girls scattered about the place. This is definitely a decrease from the pre-covid days and it's a big saddening to see how things have changed for the worst. After I unpacked I went to grab a bite to eat at the Del Mar. It was when I went to pay that I was told about how I needed to switch my money at a bank since they had apparently changed money. I did happen to have a few walking around USA dollars on-hand so I just pad with that instead. Of course now that I'm back at my room I look online and see Costa Rica basically has retired their old money so the colones I have now that were left over from my last trip that I was counting on to get me through the next is pretty worthless it appears as we're past the timeframe to when it could be traded-in not to mention it's after midnight so there is no option to do that anyways. First I was shocked to see they had removed the atms from the airport so now your only option is to use the money exchange places. That's assuming you have money to even exchange which I didn't have to begin with. I did still have some colones on me from my last trip (more on that later LOL). As usual I'm staying at the Hotel Del Rey as I have for most of my previous trips. I arrived a little before 11 pm and I was shocked when we rolled up as it was looking pretty dead. In the past on a Friday night at the HDR there would be lots of taxis and lost of girls / guys coming and go, but this time that wasn't the case at all. I'd have wondered if the place was even open if I'd not seen a few guys coming out as I was getting out of the taxi LOL. When I wen to check-in the inside was pretty dark and of course I see the area where all the gaming machines used to be along with some girls scattered about the place. This is definitely a decrease from the pre-covid days and it's a big saddening to see how things have changed for the worst. After I unpacked I went to grab a bite to eat at the Del Mar. It was when I went to pay that I was told about how I needed to switch my money at a bank since they had apparently changed money. I did happen to have a few walking around USA dollars on-hand so I just pad with that instead. Of course now that I'm back at my room I look online and see Costa Rica basically has retired their old money so the colones I have now that were left over from my last trip that I was counting on to get me through the next is pretty worthless it appears as we're past the timeframe to when it could be traded-in not to mention it's after midnight so there is no option to do that anyways. In the airport I believe there is still one by the BCR kiosk in the departures terminal. Just walk across the street and go up the escalador. Enter the terminal and walk back toward the security checkpoint. The BCR kiosk will be on the left. You can also exchange money there at bank rates.
Near the rey is the INS building. Very tall you can't miss it. Two ATMs are out front. Very well lit and relatively safe at night as there are a lot of camaras.
You can go to the second floor of the INS building or and bank and exchange those old notes for new ones.
If the rey is dead take a cab or uber down to theTaormina. You'll find what you are looking for.

With the casino closed, they have no currency exchange! There is an ATM up the hill, the INS bank that I've used the last two trips to SJO. They have two machines; the one on the left as you face the door to the bank, operates in English and Spanish. There are girls in the HDR that I did about 10-15 years ago. In short, the HDR is a bad choice these days. The Taormina and Sportsman's are the two venues that attract the most girls; the Castillo has a few but not the best of quality. Also, I had a local friend exchange my old colones at their bank (need an account set up), in exchange for a small fee. The casino machines won't even accept the older bills. I got it exchanged today at the BCR in downtown today. They just checked my passport and then swapped the money.
Thanks for the others who responded too about ATM's. I ended up just waiting until the morning and then hit up the ATM just up the hill on Av 1 to the left of HDR. That's been my go to once since then given it's close and there are 2 right next to each other one BCR and the other I forget.
I hit up Monica's for the first time on Sunday. Probably not the best day, but it was raining a bit and the HDR during the day was pretty dry. Monica's only had 4 girls on had, but they were all decent looking. One was pretty glued to her phone so I pretty much didn't even consider her. I ended up going with one of the other 3 who had the biggest boobs since I'm a lover of some nice big knockers. I did consider the Taormina just at the time when I booked the price difference per night was pretty significance and the deal for the HDR was too good to past up. At any rate though it's all good as the HDR still suffices compared to what I'd be dealing with back in LOS Angeles. I will say the talent at times has been better during the weekday evenings / nights than it was on the weekend. I guess the girls must be rotating between the clubs when one is slow. On a side note the internet at the HDR does seem a lot better than it was in the past which is good since I've been doing stuff on my chrome book to pass the time when I've been around the hotel.

Thanks guys!1. Most of the Jaco girls are from San Jose. Some come down on weekends, others have places there that they share with other chicas. So they are not different. But having said that the Cocal may attract some of the more attractive chicas as there is a better payday in Jaco.
2. You don't "need" US dollars anywhere. Better to just use colones. I think it will be almost never that you will get more by using US dollars, and almost always that you will get less. For anything.
I have no answers to you on 3. And as far as rates there is a range of prices / rates that go from around $30 US equivalent for hh in a massage type place in San Jose, to several hundred per hour with some of the hotties in Jaco. Or even more with some online.

If that is the case then in those establishments I would pay in dollars and insist on getting your change in dollars. That way you will avoid hetting a very unfavorable exchange rate.

Thanks guys!1. This same girl in SJ will quote $100 in SJ, will quote $200 in Jaco. They're all the same girls who catch rides back and forth.
2. Best to use colones. Funny story; Met a girl at the Taormina and agreed to $100 USD because I likes the girl and what she offered. I paid her with a $100 bill that the casino rejected because the bill had a small tear. Best way to go; give a low price and offer a propina (tip), if the service is really good.
3. Used Skokie once; girl was the same, but had a baby in the past 12 months. She was heavier and was breast feeding, so breast play was off the table.
4. This is the grand debate as there are many factors. You can realistically pay $60 in SJ and $80 in Jaco. It all depends on the time of day, day of week, number of other guys, number of other girls; the laws of " supply and demand". Girls in Jaco feel they're worth more because of the beach location. There are guys on charter trips who will pay $300. Go figure. I always ask what there services are and ask their price. Generally, I'll counter lower but offer a "propina" (tip) if the service is good.
Don't feel bad to walk away from any deal. They may walk around the bar a couple times and end right back up with you to take you up on it. That said, if she's totally hot, it might be worth while to go for the up sale. It's always best when both parties are happy with the agreement.

In all honesty, I like Dominican chicas because they f $&k like animals and are freaky. Can I get that in abundance in Jaco or better off sticking to sosua?

The SJO places seem to do better when there are US holidays that guys take advantage of to go down for a long weekend. During the Super Bowl, all the mongering bars are hopping. The summer months seems to really die down because it's the rainy season in CR.
I return to the Taormina in July for a week. It's hit or miss during the week, but usually draws about 20 girls each night (from Thursday. Saturday.
CR is still one of the safest mongering destinations; whether it be San Jose or Jaco. Panama is also a safe destination, but girls are way overpriced in Panama City. Can anyone else confirm this?I was in Taormina in May and the standard rate for one hour session is $80-$100. All of the girls I had sessions with did BBBJ. Of all the girls I talked to in the hotel, only one, a Dominican said she would not do BBBJ. So if things are slow for the girls you might get $80 but to make them happy and get quality service the standard is cien to get top girls there. I would usually pay for 1 1/2 hrs for 60 K colones which converts to $111. I paid 70 K colones to a girl for all night which converts to $130 but I did buy her dinner as well. To me to get excellent service I don't care whether I have to pay $80 or $100. In a week I had about 12 sessions with 5 different women and not a single one was bad. I didn't even bother to go to Sportsmens or HDR.

Was lazy to post my report, but here it is.
Accommodation: I stayed for a month in San Jose from May 13 - June 14th. I took an Airbnb in Curridabat and kept all mongering activities in Hotel Castillo, based on recommendations here due to safety.
Travel: Uber everywhere was cheap and reliable. I took shuttle506 from the airport. You can book before arriving through WhatsApp.
Girls: Needless to say, Monica's was great. Sessioned with Paola several times. She has saved up enough money to study law so see her before she quits LOL. There were a few other girls. You can get their numbers and they would visit you at Castillo. The owner was very hospitable. There were 3 - 4 girls at Castillo every time I visited and they were kinda ok. Not much was happening in SL but there were girls but not great lookers. I sessioned with one them.
Badoo: I prefer GFE so try and hook up with non-pros or atleast I think they are non-pros lol. It was very difficult, lowered my standards and got lucky with one. After reading this latest report, I'm considering re-booking with the Taormina instead as the price is the same. To your point, I am waiting on confirmation as well..I wouldn't stay at sportsman. Overpriced sad rooms and little to no action.

I speak very basic Spanish. Google translate is your friend but it can get tiring and annoying.
About 25% of the girls do have basic English skills and can communicate about services and such.
Either find a girl that you like and speaks English but I noticed the ones that register for me do not speak any English.

ID say its 50/50 the chicas that speak some English and the ones that speak barely any.
