For all of you regulars of the Blue Marlin Bar there was a big shake up last weekend. A new management team came in and turned it upside down. Blonde Jessica (had been there 14+ years & was the bar manager) got side ways with the new manager and quit.
From there the new management proceeded to fire 90% of the regular bartender girls from Fernanda on down, they are all gone now (report from my buddy who just returned yesterday). Seems there was way to much money missing from the cash registers after their shifts & had been going on for awhile.
Now there is no more drinking behind the bar, no doing shots with the customers, its going to be boring as hell, they were half the fun of being there. Of course it will probably decrease my bar bill by $750.00 for a 3 night stay.

All depends on your negotiation skills. Most will say 2-hours, some offer lower rates for an hour. TLN can be as low as the girl is willing to go. Factors that weigh in: if she's been drinking and enjoys your company, lives outside the city and doesn't want to leave until morning, needs a roof over head, etc.
I've paid $60 and the girl spent the night. There is no hard and fast rule.

Can you remember how much you drank and ate on a week trip? Also a nice little fee added to your account everytime you take a Lady up. Another thing about staying in the belly of the beast. I always stay at the Sportsman or now La Amistad a $1 ride in a cab ride to the HDR. Durung the day a nice 10 min walk. Close to the Massage places.

Opinions are what make the world go round. I have been going to San Jose for 10 years and I have never stayed anywhere else but the Hotel Del Rey. I love it, I have the ease of being able to be neck deep in pussy in less than 60 seconds. When I want to fuck I want to fuck, I don’t want to wait, get a cab go to another hotel, check her in, have her ask me for cab fare home etc, etc..
I love the ability of being able to charge anything/everything to my room, less cash to have to deal with. I have never had any problems with my tab being padded, the bartenders/room service/restaurant let you keep it right in front of you, you sign it and close it out each time your done.
A girl is going to run out the door no matter what hotel you are staying at, they are there to make money, besides I have never ever paid for sex, I pay them to leave. Assuming you have been to HLH, you would take a right upon leaving, another immediate right when you quickly hit Calle 9, head up the hill a block or two toward the Sportsmens Lodge, and its on the left. There is a pink light above the entrance if I remember correctly, and usually a security guy or two hanging out in front. Been in a few times but never saw anything to my liking. Nevertheless, a few of my friends have had great luck there from time to time and its probably worth checking out. The New Fantasy is a massage parlor and is located roughly between the old Zona Blue MP now called Hotel Little Havana and the Don Carlos Hotel....on - 9th Ave. & 7th Street (approx) - in Barrio Amon close to the Zoo in San Jose, Costa Rica.
It is about 6-7 blocks from the Morazon or Del Rey Hotels. And would be about a $ 1.50 taxi ride away from those hotels. You can safely walk it during daylight hours but would be advised to take a taxi after dark.

I was there for a session about two weeks ago, and the price is right around $ 44.00 USD......up a few bucks from the last couple of years. My first trip there in 2004 it was only $ 32.00....but things do go up in price.
New Fantasy is open until about 9 PM....so plan accordingly as it is not a late night place for P4P. There are no markings on the Oasis MP and it is only noted by the security guard standing out front..again they will close around 6 or 7 PM...so it too is not a late night place.
Take a taxi and tell them you want to go to the Machu Pichu Restaurant....the Peruvian one....as there are two with this same name is San Jose. ( See above ).

I'll be down Thanksgiving weekend as well and am already planning on hooking up for a drink or two with LK and Bunda Man, and I'd be delighted to meet Iamsmooth as well, author of a truly great trip report. Yes, I've looked out for Arlyn at the BM during a couple of previous trips this year but have never had the good fortune of hooking up with her. Maybe LK, Bunda Man and me could have an arm wrestling contest, the winner rewarded with the right to bribe Iamsmooth for her contact info!
Perhaps a small but robust party is in order. The first round of drinks on me...

Cien is a very good price-for Todo la noche. Its not what you pay, but what you get for what you pay. I much prefer to give the lady what she asks (say 80 or 100), but negotiate for a few hours, multiple pops, todo la noche, ect ect. When you think about it, giving a chica 80 bucks for an hour is a rip, but a cien for three or four hours is a pretty good deal....I agree 100%, never pay a cien for an hour, but giving her what she wants and getting what you want can turn it into a win win, and in truth, saves you money over the course of a trip (i.e. a ripping todo la noche means I am less likley to need to run for an MP in the morning)....plus, NOT spending the extra 20 bucks for a chica you really want means that you lose out on what YOU want, and perhaps save a total of 100 bucks over the course of a trip. Now, factor in airfare, hotel, food, chicas, what percentage of your trip is a cien?
Will be at the SL after T day with wingman, hope to see you cats around the bar. This is trip mabye 8 or 9 so for me over the course of many years, y es claro que hablo espanol.

I Saw photos of a chica identified as Arlyn on CRT. This chica had reddish hair and pale skin. Photo of her doggy style on a bed in bra and panties posted on 11/13 and spread eagle with transparent panties on 11/8. Post noted that she works days at HDR. Is this the same Arlyn in IAmSmooth's Halloween report? The poster of the photo and other CRTers also wrote favorable comments about her performance.
I wonder the same on that Arlyn. If so, she's getting some good press from our friends. For my tastes from the waist up she's just average. I think, however, I shall explore below the belly button should I be so fortunate.

Pretty sure this is the same Arlyn, although Iamsmooth would be the definitive source. BTW, myself and Iamsmooth are CRTers as well.

Your attatched pdf file is fairly representitive of the 'going rates' in San Jose.
I suspect that the 'price list' is a little dated, and perhaps some of the prices have gone up slightly. The list is fairly comprehensive and there are several places on it that I have not yet visited - although I have been going regularly to San Jose for about 5-6 years....and have seen some changes in things over that time frame.
One change is that with the economy more or less depressed there are fewer mongers in San Jose now than say 1 - 1 1/2 years ago, so some of the prices have adjusted with less competition ......fewer guys....but basically the same amount of P4P gals working the venues.
I just got back from a 2 week trip to San Jose about 3 weeks ago, and the status quo is about the same as it has always been.
Ground zero for mongering in San Jose is still the Hotel Del Rey, but the Sportsmans Lodge is gain in popularity with both the guys and the gals.....it is fairly difficult to get a room there now as a walk-in.....reservations are advised. The Gringo owner Bill is doing some real good things there - business-wise to attract clientele.
There are several good hotels close in to the "Gulch"....the area around the Del Rey Hotel, and you should be able to find one with little trouble for your January trip. But do make some reservations to be on the safe side. All the major hotels have websites with online reservations.
My personal recomendation for a hotel would be: Sportsmans Lodge, or La Amastad Hotel, or the Castillo Hotel....all in Barrio Amon (very near the Zoo) within 6-8 blocks of the Gulch, and all very Chica friendly with no extra fees to bring your gals back to the hotel.
For my own personal tastes I do spend time at the Del Rey Hotel but mostly for meeting friends, window shopping the gals, and having an occasional drink.
For myself when it comes time to get laid I usually go to one of the massage parlors - Osasis, Veronicas, 747 or the like. I also like to do a little dancing and go right next door to the Del Rey at Key Largo for that.
I have eaten often also in Del Rey's restaurant (right next door) but although the food is top quality, it is still a little pricey for my tastes. Instead I have several small Chinese restaurants around where I like to eat to get the Chinese cooking and or some reasonably priced seafood.
Strip Clubs - I do not usually go to these, but ask around....and you will find a couple good ones that should prove to be good for you.
I have heard for years about Pantera Rosa, but as yet have not been there.
Also there is the Hollywood Club nearby, which looks OK, and the old standby D'Pulifeos (sp) Strip Club out near San Pedro Mall - where I have been.
Most of yout strip clubs will not get going until around 11 PM or later - so plan accordingly.
I sincerely hope you have a very good trip, and January is a pretty good time to be there, although do not plan on going during Christmas or over News Years, and you will no doubt be disappointed - because the gals will be with their families then and will not be out working as usual.
Try to hit San Jose anytime after Jan 2nd - which should be a very good time to be there. It will be the high season.....the non-rainy - dry season, and everything should be in full swing.
There are many good spots outside of San Jose also....do a little homework and you will no doubt find most of them - Jaco Beach, the mountain areas, Manual Antonio - Quepos for great beaches, and fishing is good almost everywhere there is saltwater - if you are into that scene.

Just returned from a 4-day jaunt to SJO, stayed at HDR.
Not much has changed, though on this trip I encountered less Columbianas and more Chicas which was a definite change from my earlier visits this year. Not sure why that is though. I had heard that one of the owners had a beef with a Columbian and went on to ban them for a while just recently. Also, noted more darker complected girls than in years past. A lot of the girls dress it up now in tight/short dresses, which is a sight to behold. Also, there seems to be a better looking selection earlier in the day, before the stunners come out to play in the evening.
Good news for long-time Blue Marlin bartender, Jessica (blond hair, parrot tat on back of shoulder) admirers. She managed the bar up until a couple months ago. She's now working at a bar called Chubbs down the street from HDR, across from Parque Morazan. She works 11 am - 7 pm and the girls in HDR don't bring it up for fear of getting fired or banned. Chubbs if a great place to catch sports action, at least 10 big screen TVs throughout the place on sattelite and a decent menu too. Plus, if you want a break from the girl hounding, this is a nice refuge where you can actually watch a game.
One turn-off was that the bar girls in BM and KL are not shy about asking for shots. Not sure what the incentive is, but this is counter to an earlier note that the bar girls are no longer allowed to drink behind the bar. However, it may be because business is down and they've been told to get their sales up, or their asses out.
Used the ATM in the HDR (BofA debit card) and got a decent rate of CR $562 to the dollar.

Pantera Rosa (Pink Panther) is my favorite at the moment because of their prices and the quality of the dancers (See my post in this thread for more details on Pantera). I suppose Pantera is considered low end but the facilities are nice enough for my taste and there are a number of great girls to suit all tastes working there.
Another low end club is VIPS Taberna, Ave. 11, between Calles 1 and 3, which technically is a strip club but you probably will not see much dancing on the stage. I dropped by a few times around 7pm after finishing sessions at the nearby nearby massage joints (pensions) Muses and Krysis. There was not much of a selection but I have been told that the selection gets better as the night goes on. This place truely looked and felt low end from the few minutes I spent inside each visit. Beers were about $2 U.S. and a half hour of full service was about $20 U.S.
Two upper scale strip clubs are Club Monaco, Ave. 9, Calle 6 and D'Pelufo, Alejuela(near SJO). Monaco has been said to have some nice talent but a gringo tax has also been reported(locals pay 15,000 Colones for full service while gringos are quoted $50.00 U.S., about 28,000 Colones).
D'Pelufo has another location in San Pedro as well. I have heard great things about D'Pelufo and the chicas on their website look great. However, I am hearing widely contradicting accounts of the price for full service. I have been told as low as $20.00 U.S. and as high as $100.00 U.S for one hour. This place is considered high end by San Jose standards so my guess is that the price is higher than Pantera. Hope to make it over to Monaco and D'Pelufo during my upcoming trip and I will report back.
There are many other similar types of set-ups throughout San Jose, the above are just what I have experienced and heard about. Strip clubs Hollywood and Atlantis are to be avoided at all costs as they are well known rip-off joints.

If they are going to be open....some days they are not open.....they typically do not have anyone at the door ( doorman) until around 11 PM, and it may not actually open until around 11:30-12 AM.
It is a late night place which goes to around 4-5 AM.

This is going to be my first time making a trip to CR. I am planning to be there in Mid-December. I am giong to stay in San Jose and from reading all the reports it seems like there is just sex and casinos. I have a few questions hopefully one of you will be kind in answering.
1. Is there anything else to do in the day time besides sex/casinos?
2. Also, can anyone recommend a beach in Costa Rica with the same type of night life.
3. I would like to do scuba diving while staying in San Jose. Is that possible?
Last question. Is 10-12 nights too many nights in San Jose?

I was in San Jose last week Wed and Thurs nights -- and have been there several times before. Stayed in various hotels, so here is the update:
Crowne Plaza Coribici Hotel -- chica friendly only if you pre-register your guest (and you need the correct name because she will more than likely be asked for her ID card). However, I got away with it because I was a late night check-in and my GFE was sitting in the lobby waiting for me. But I did mention "2 guests" when making the reservation -- that is half the battle won ! There was no additional charge for the guest.
There is a strong hotel security presence (front door and right by the elevators on the first floor). Some polite greeting "hola amigo" every time you see them will help wonders.
San Palacio -- last time I stayed there I had to pay an additional $20.00 for the guest. ID was required.
Presidente (Downtown) -- this last trip was a first time stay at this hotel. They have implemented a strict dress policy for the chicas (no mini skirts, now shorts etc). I discussed this with the night manager and he told me that they have done this now for about a year -- just trying to keep it that way. Chica friendly in the sense that you do not pay additional room charges but ID is necessary. I had an OK room -- internet is available in all rooms but wifi only in some of them (so ask first). Flat screen TV has more english channels than you care to have ! Not sure if I would stay there again (all depends on what the rest of my time is about doing). Location is good for a stroll up and down the boulevard after a working day. It is in walking distance to the Del Ray Hotel.
Del Ray Update -- knowing a few insiders there (regulars), by all accounts and their reports, business is "bad" (for them). That means negotiation is easier than before, but the opening bid is $100.00 -- I had a one that opened at $120.00 but she dropped to $100.00 -- an 8 out of 10 Colombian lady, who was well prepared with slip on leg-ins to deal with the Presidente dress code !! Quite a few ladies have this accessory in their purses.
So, my selection was restricted to those dress appropriately, and actually had a great conversation with a young blonde Tica, who spoke perfect English, fitted my criteria, but admitted that she would encounter problems at the Presidente. So, for those staying at that Hotel, be aware of this real code in place and select accordingly.
Del Ray and Key Largo was overflowing -- and this can become a bit annoying especially as you navigate to the restroom.
The live music at Key Largo was so-so -- heard better bands there previously. Interesting that both places empty out quickly after 10pm or so -- either the chicas go home or relocate to other places (not sure where).
I did take a C1000 taxi from the Del Ray to the Presidente (with my regular GFE who wanted to go there to chat to a friend).
The selection at both places covers just about any size, shape, hair color, breast size, culo size, that anyone will need or like !! Seems like breast enhancements are a full craze because it was hard to find any natural ones!!

Phillyman -- 10 to 12 nights in San Jose (on vacation) is LONG time, especially if you are travelling on your own (without a buddy or wingman).
My suggestion would be to spend 2 or 3 nights in the beginning, then head for the coast and one of the beach areas (I am not a specialist on beach locations) but would keep it to Jaco or Manuel Antonio areas.
The 2 or 3 nights upfront will give you time to acclimate to the scene, and you might even find a lady that you will invite to join you at the beach. If you plan to travel more to Latin America, the more you speak, the more GFE and semi pro experiences are posible.
Check out the local markets (mercado central). Go to a museam. Take a bus to Cartago and walk around. Pay a cab to take you around on a tour all day.
It also depends on how much you like to chill and read a book, and have time away from the grind.

24 December XMAS EVE is when most if not all Tico families celebrate Xmas. the HDL is quite all the MPs are down (no pun intended) in staff.
If you have a GFE who has no kids and is not Tica you are in great shape for a cheap TLN.
26 December is the TOPE in SJ Pasao Colon and Ave Segundo are closed for 3000 horse parade. Not to be missed.

I have never stayed at any of the Marriott hotels that you have on your list ( all of them would be out of my moderate price range I am afraid.....but I have a considerable amount of experience with being in San Jose CR, so here is what I would do if I were you.
Of the 4 hotels you mention only one of them is half way close to the action in downtown San Jose - and that is your first one - the Costa Rica Marriott Hotel - San Jose.
The two hotels that are in Escazu are approx. 15 miles from downtown San Jose. They are out in the suburbs, which is too far to have to commute to enjoy yourself in San Jose with the ladies.
The other hotel listed in Los Suenos is over right on the beach just North of Jaco Beach. So it is around 125 miles from San Jose.
Of your choices - I would pick the CR Marriott Hotel to stay in the San Jose area, then I would arrange to go over to Jaco Beach for a few days and would then stay at your hotel at Los Suenos. This hotel is top - top 5 Star quality, and you will no doubt love the Los Suenos area. Only thing is that it about 9-10 miles from the action in Jaco Beach......so you can plan on taking a taxi when you want to go into Jaco...or better yet plan of having a rental car for your trips into town - Jaco.
If you did not get the good discount you mention then I would not recommend that you stay at any of these Marriott hotels.....because they are just not very close in or convienent......but with your discount - which I can only surmise might be around 40 to 50 % off....then I would go as advised above.
If you wanted to forgo your discount and just stay at a nice hotel for a reasonable price - then I would look into staying at one of these in San Jose:
Morazon Hotel, Castillo Hotel, La Amastad Hotel, or Sportsman's Lodge - any of these are much closer to the heart of the action in San Jose......but then again you would have to pay regular price.....and all of these are in the $ 45 to 60.00 area for nightly rates.
This is of course is just my opinion - and others might see it differently, and advise you to take a different course.
If I were you I would find a map of San Jose - online - and plot out just exactly where these hotels are located......then locate the Del Rey Hotel in downtown San Jose - which will be the general area where you no doubt will spend the majority of your time while in San Jose. Most mongers will spend perhaps 90 % of all their time in San Jose within just a few blocks of the location of the Del Rey Hotel......so plan accordingly.

CR Marriott: This is on an old coffee plantation. It has a nice golf course and beautiful views. I have been there 10 times for 5-8 nights each trip in the past 4 years. It is not for anyone on a limited budget. It is up scale and I have brought in various dates each day. Not multiple dates each day. I have even brought 2 dates in at the same time. At night they need to check in at the Front Desk with ID. This is a first class hotel. It is very far from the San Jose action. Taxis at the hotel can help you find what you are looking for. I always stay on the Executive levels so you have access to the private lounge etc. Free transportation to and from the airport.
*From this CR Marriott there is a free shuttle (at least it was a year ago) to the Los Suenos Marriott.
Los Suenos Marriott: Wow....just wow! This place is one the ocean with an amazing pool and a nice walk to the Marina. The Beach is black sand and not that nice. Everything about the hotel is of course first class. I checked in with my date for 3 nights. I meet her at Zona Blue while staying at the CR Marriott. What a great time. I do not know how it would be if you brought in dates each day.
Courtyard: Yes it is girl friendly with ID. It is typical of a Courtyard anywhere. It is right off the highway and there are restaurants close by. Not even close to the level of the other two Marriotts. Far from the action in San Jose so you will need a cab to go anywhere. There was a report a while back on this hotel.
My recommendation is to do the following if your budget allows:
2 nights in CR Marriott, 2-3 nights in Jaco Los Suenos Marriott, and 1-2 nights back at the CR Marriott.
DO NOT GO TO COSTA RICA FROM 12/24 TO 1/2. I have been there and can tell you that it was a MISTAKE!

You will need to first go from Jaco to Dominical....and there is about 50 miles of unpaved dirt road on that part of the trip. It is a killer in a bus and would even be worse in a car.
You may find that you will need to go to Jaco and then probably return to San Jose to get a bus or to fly to Panama.
The Tica Bus to Panama is not too bad. It is cheap and you can stop off in David Panama for a day or so on your way to break up the trip.....if going by bus.
If you will be flying - you can fly to Panama City leaving from San Jose which will stop in David. Then continue on to Panama City or stay overnight in David....which is what I would do. No extra charge for that.
Check your trip against other advice on this forum from other travelers or do a search on Google for traveling between Costa Rica and Panama.
Jaco Beach is no big deal....even if you missed it you would not be missing that much.
I think I might opt instead of going by Interbus or Greyline from San Jose to Quepos and see the beach at Manual Antonio....that beach is lots and lots better than the beach in Jaco.
Then I would get another Greyline or Interbus to the border at Paso Canoas (Panama/CR border) then go on into David spend a day or two there and then fly out on Air Panama or Aero Pealis (sp) on to Panama City.
Or you can fly back from Quepos to San Jose on Nature Air - then go on to David and or Panama City.
I have been on the regular bus from Jaco Beach to Panama City.....and it is a very long and fairly uncomfortable trip.....best to avoid if possible.....
I would plan to take an alternative route.
One other thing.......I think Jaco Beach will be very quiet - mongerwise over Christmas.....ditto in San Jose....but Panama City may well have much more going on during that time.

Almost any of the massage parlors in San Jose should be OK for the type of massage you are wanting. There is an extensive list of the massage parlors in San Jose elsewhere on thisf forum. Search for it and you will see .
Also I could lay out a nice intnerary for you for a 3 week trip to Costa Rica and Panama - but you can easily find all that in other reports that have already been written here on the forum - search for them - I have several reports on my trips to San Jose and also Panama under my handle of - stevewxly - I think if you find them and read them over you will find the answers to most of your trip related questions.
Just in general - and quickly - I would recommend you get into San Jose and stay for perhaps 1 week - then go on to some of the other destinations in Costa Rica - say Jaco Beach for a couple of days - then Quepos - Manual Antonio for 2-3 days, then perhaps a trip up into the highlands of CR to see some of the mountain and volcano areas. Then depending upon if you want to fly to Panama or go by land.....
fly out of San Jose to David Panama - stay a day or so- it is a nice little town with some interesting places to see - then fly on to Panama City and see things there.
You will probably want to divide your time equally between CR and Panama with perhaps 10 days covering each.
If you want to go overland - then the Tica Bus is OK to take to Panama. It will stop at the frontier at Paso Canoas, and you can stay on the bus and go on into Panama City or you can get off and then get onto another small mini type bus and go into David Panama to stay a couple of days (and this is what I would recommend) it breaks up the bus trip into two segments and allows for some rest in between.
Then perhaps you might want to fly on Air Panama or Aeroperlas on your return to San Jose. Last time I did that I got a $ 99.00 one way ticket for that trip - from Panama City to David to San Jose.
A nice side trip from Panama City - try Bocas del Toro on the Atlantic. Great ocean views, nice beaches and such. More for couples and honeymooners than single mongers - but an interesting destination none-the-less.
Spanish schools are everywhere......instead of spending time couped up in a classroom - I might opt to get a private instructor - one that would be easy to look at while she instructs you in "espanol", you could move around seeing some of the local sights and she could also act as your local guide too.

I was thinking more in terms of if I purchased a sim card from the local carrier there and had it installed. In DR you can take your phone to the Claro or Orange store and have it activated with the sim card they install in your phone. I was just wondering if the same could be done with your phone in CR.

Flight and Airport
Purchased my flight on American Airlines in early October for $277, round trip, connecting in Miami, out of Newark Airport. In any event, I understand that the SL does not arrange for airport pickup and/or drop-off any more. Apparently, it wasn’t worth it for them financially. I was told by someone staying at the Sleep Inn(near the Del Rey) that the hotel offers free airport pick-up and drop-off but I was also told that you have to pay a fee for guests.
Sportsman’s Lodge
Arrived at the SL mid afternoon in time to shower, shave, and meet up with Lion Killer and Mr. Jetsetter at the SL bar. LK arrived with his buddy followed by Mr. Jetsetter a bit later. LK and his buddy were extremely generous with buying drinks. I tried to keep up in returning the favor but I am sure I owe them a few rounds next trip. I think you will find that the bartenders at the Del Rey/Blue Marlin have perhaps been instructed by the management not to encourage or get involved with the customers (mongers).
Maybe if you could meet one of them off-hours then you might be able to do some good with them - but from my experience I have not seen any of them wanting to hook up with any of the customers.
They may have specific orders from management for this - or it may be sort of an unofficial attitude on their part - but in any rate - usually they seemingly do not fraternize with the customers.
You will do better to set your sights on the regular P4P gals and forget about having sexual sessions with any of the bartenters in the Del Rey - BM or Key Largo......although if a "shot was possible" then I think you might have better luck trying to persuade one of the Key Largo bar gals to cozy up with you......in my experience - at least they seem a little more approachable.

Last time I was there, I heard the bartenders commenting about "how good looking he is". Of course, they weren't talking about me :-) I looked around and noticed that the object of their attention was a very young, good looking Latino. One of the bartenders said "he's just what the doctor ordered", and another bartender told her "if you go with him for free, I'm sure it could arranged". Bartenders (specially in the Blue Marlin) make way more money than those in the Dominican Republic, as a matter of fact, most of the time they are tipped twice as tips are included in the tab.

Also, like any woman in CR, they all have a partners, and most of the time, their partners are dudes higher up and close by. I just wonder how many of you folk have ever marketed yourselves as a good product for the price you offer and not budge? On my first trip last week, I set a firm price of $50 and manipulated a $10 tip or a vibrator. 100% sucess if I stood my ground. If you are interested in college looking girls with decent service, that seems to be the only place that I find in SJO. I do not want to divulge too much information, but it was my best experience with any massage girls in the whole Latin world! If you are in SJO, you should all give her a try. The price is c18, 000 and I gave her a c3, 000 tip.
As to Key Largo and Del Rey, I brought two TLN back for two nights respectively for cien each. Both are good service. One who is really good actually was a waitress at Key Largo before (related to some of the recent talks in CR section) and was a strip dancer too. She has a pretty face and firm body. I do not think she does this kind of trade often at all. In fact, I may be her first sex in the last few months. But I was too tired to perform well and she has to leave early in the morning to take care of her kids. The other told me she has a 5 year old in DR. But I saw leche when we went back to hotel. As to KL and DR, I think I was just lucky to bring the two back (especially the ex-KL waitress), and they also liked me somewhat. I am a little above average looking and relaxed when talking to them. But I know only very little spanish (self learned a bit but never got enough time to do it). There are many choices in KL and DR, most I do not like (maybe I just have an artificially high standard). There are good looking ones, but most does not budge from cien/hour. If you are really interested, and are charming enough, I think it is possible to bring it down to $60, or $80 per hour at least.

Relax and Extasis are not the same. Extasis is a little bit away fron the gulch in Paseo Colon and around calle 28/30 area. It's turned into a swingers club on Friday and Saturday nights. It seems that the price is 12000/half hour and 16000/hour.

I did a 4 weeks trip in Central America. The main focus was not mongering, but I prepared myself anyway in reading WSG about Central America. Here a short report about my time in San José.
Spend some time in Del Rey and talked to the chicas there. There are some really pretty ones. But I was not in the mode to take one.
Went towards noon to New Fantasy which is recommended here a lot. Pretty nice welcome with a lineup of about 10 girls. Choosed Stefanie for 1 hour. Cost is 45 UDS, quite steep compared to other countries in Central America. They have nice rooms with lockers, so it is very safe. A taxi ride from say the Hotel Del Rey to the Sportsmans Lodge ( which is approx. 7-8 blocks) should not run you any more than about $ 2.00. That would convert to approx. 1,000 colones.
Your best bet will be to ask the taxi driver to turn on and run his meter - called the Maria in Spanish - pronounced exactly like the womans name.
I believe it will be easier for you to use colones in San Jose for small fees like taxi's and such - than dollars. And it will perhaps be cheaper too, as some people in CR will not readily be able to do the money conversion - as quickly as you would be able to do.

Taxi fare from Del Rey to Sportsman Lodge normally runs from 1,000 to 1,500 colones ($2 to $3 US). Of course, they tend to charge the 1,500 after dark because they know you will not be walking back, especially at night.
But as you mentioned, a few extra colones makes everyone happy.

When leaveing the HDR or NYB walk down 1st ave to the next corner; stand across from the dos gringos resturant and hale a taxi. Or try to hale one on the walk down the ave. The cost to the Sportsmans bar is 510 colon'e on the MARIA {meter}.
I always try to have the correct change; I give the driver 600. Ifs its late and their is a load with multible stops 1MIL.
600 will get you to relax, eros, idem, Hotel royle dutch, club moneco. Hope you are getting the point.
The bus to the airport is 475 colon's. Less then a buck. Its fast dependable and the express buses to the airport leave every 15 min's.

Example SJ to Jaco 5-6 RT hours same for Punturanous. {they are both about a 2 hour drive at best depending on trafic} The driver has to get home after he drops you off. So unless you are keeping the driver and car for a day trip to the beach with that special gal.
Stay safe and think twice about walking in certain areas alone after 9PM

At this point someone will direct you to a pirate taxi that will take you where you ask. They do not have meters and the usually charge a minimum of $4 2000 colones. Even liscened cabs get in on this action and pick up tourists and fail to run the meter. Cabs will try any scam they can to rip you off. Common is the reply, I don't have change, so it is best to have low denomination bills in colones at all times (1000 and 2000). Many cab drivers do not know the location of the Sportsman's Lodge. You may need to direct them. Their business card has a map on the back. The cab drivers get a commission for taking you to certain locations. The strip clubs, Tango India, Hollywood and Elite give them finders fees for gringos. Be careful going to these locations unless you are prepared to spend a lot of money. There are better clubs to frequent. Taxis receive a commission of 5000 colones to take you to New Fantasy, a massage parlor. I am not a great fan of mps. I prefer long sessions in the luxury of a delux room in the Sportsman's Lodge, L'Amistad, Hotel M, or Hotel Little Havana. MPs are good for a quick pop or to meet girls you may want to invite out later. New Fantasy does no favors for me. I bring more clients to them than any taxi and receive no commission. I bring them there because it provides the best value to my clients. There is a steam bath, dry sauna, secure clean rooms, very good lineup of beautiful young ladies. It is full service. You have to request a massage. The cost is $45 for Gringos $30 for locals. The owner is reputed not to like Gringos. The girls receive $15 for an hour session. Some provide extra services like BBBJ without extra charge others request additional money. There are numerous other mps in San Jose but this is a great service for the money.

standing on the walking Ave 4 with your back to the park and ave 2 between calle 6 & 8 you will see a bank. go up the stairs entering the bank turn right after going through the metal detector. You will see a sign directing you to the correct line; don't take a number or a seat.
Bring your passport and american money $26.00 If you use colones you will be assesed the higher sell rate.
You can buy this any time after entering the country and keep it with your passport in the safe.
I like haveing it filled out before getting to the airport; Its one less line to wait in and the less thing to do before leaving.

This is an area with many bars and clubs frequented by younger ticos and ticas. Short cab ride from Sportsmans. Very few if any working girls here. If you go, go with a wingman or group of guys. Don't go alone. This place in not monger friendly and a gringo will most likely stick out in the crowd. Fighting, shootings, and stabbings are not uncommon.

In the 90s it was a set of upscale resturants and bars that opened in an open mall area with sovenir and cigar shops that operated in the day. The problem is that it got out of hand a few years ago because the nightlife grew quite a bit.
Most of the problems were cleaned up a few years ago when the landlord ditched the private securiuty company and hired his own guards. They do a pretty good search for weapons at the front entrance, San Francisco night club style with seperate lines for males and females.
It's a nice place to pickup latin women, but be careful the boys usually outnumber the girls. Just move fast, be polite, make alot of offers and always be closing. Get out early, and once on the outside avoid the parked taxis and hail one on the main street.

here's a thing to remember. I foolishly didn't didn't agree the price from my hotel back to the airport. Assuming it would be roughly the same as the inward journey. On arrival, the driver. Having gone all round the houses on the most indirect route, demanded some exorbitant sum. I felt I could keep arguing as I know the correct price from my inward experience. He then refused to return my bag from the trunk. I got a policeman who wasn't in the least interested and I had to pay up.

If you want to take the bus from the airport to downtown San Jose - no problem.
It costs less than $ 1.00 - you need to leave the airport and walk down the hill to the street. You will see a bus stop there on the street - and every bus that stops there will be going to downtown San Jose.
The airport is at the end of the line for the bus - so the buses almost all simply go there - turn around - and then go back to town. The exception would be the bus that is going on to Alajuela, or going on to Jaco Beach.....but it is difficult to spot this bus or to try to get on it from the airport - in my experience.
When taking buses - look on the front to see where it goes - there will be names there where it stops - then also ask the driver - you can simply say,
" San Jose " and if the bus goes to downtown San Jose - he will say " Si " or " Yes." Then get on that bus.
When coming into San Jose....you will be on 2nd Ave. and will go by the Hospital Mexico ( a well know landmark)....keep going for about another 4-5 blocks....you will see on your left the National Theater....next to Papa John's Pizza and Burger King ( on your left) .....keep going another 3-4 blocks......not sure what the crossing street here is...but just get off the bus after you have gone about 3 blocks past the restaurants named above.
You will then be about 4-5 blocks due South of the Del Rey Hotel. Get off the bus and began walking North. Ask anyone for El Presidente Hotel....two blocks North of 2nd Ave.....once you get there walk North another 3 blocks to the Morazon Hotel - turn right - one more block to the Del Rey.
If you want to - you can take a taxi from almost anywhere you get off the bus on 2nd Ave to the Del Rey - and it should be about 700 colones - or about $ 1.50 US.

When you reach the guys asking if you want a taxi as you exit; turn left and walk against the traffic; when you reach the main road turn right you can see the bus stop. and cross the street ; walk about 100 feet and you will see the benches in front of the airports parking garage that is the bus stop. There is a bus manager at this stop. Ask him or anyone waiting for a bus for the direct bus into SJ. I like the red R.A.S.C.A bus the best it is cleaner and faster. All the buses stop at this point to pick up or drop off.
Fuddzie, If you WALK down Central Ave going past the clock and Calle 4, 6,8,10 you make the last left before Paseo Colon, .; you can see it directly in front of you. you will be walking against the traffic as this is a one way street; The Bus station is in the middle of the block on the right. stay to your right and walk down past the soda till you see a sign that says DIRECT, the bus is red R.A.S.C.A is the name and you want the direct bus. This is the bus to Alajuala and its first stop will be the airport. Be alert as you near the airpot as the last driver I had a week ago called out to see if anyone was getting off at the airport. There is a porter to load your bags under the bus and when you get to the airport another bus stop tender to unload your bags. walk up the ramp to the departure area.
When leaving from the airport always ask for the R.A.S.C.A. DIRECT bus back to SJ. The bus will come down 2nd Ave and the station is across the Ave from Parke Nicaragua on 2nd Ave......Taxis are everywhere around the bus station and you should not pay more then 510 for the ride to the Ray; anyway less then a mil for the Ray or Sportsmans. depending on the time of day and traffic. Always make sure the Maria is on. and always make sure you get a taxi on 2nd AveIf you are staying at the Royle Dutch it is only a 4 block walk east, up 2nd Ave. Stay on the right hand side of the Ave.

Yes there are diamonds in the rough but then there are diamonds everywhere else too. Then there is the insecurity around HDR and in the area. SL is nice but when I was there a few weeks back there were almost no girls or customers and the ones that were there just looked like they came out of HDR. In fact, I saw them there later in the evening. Same experience at Little Havana or the massage place across the street.
In conclusion my personal and limited experience of CR, where I have had about a dozen chicas, is that it is not as good as other mongering places in Latin America or Asia. Granted it is convenient and the flights from the US are cheap and you can find chicas easily, but that is about it.
But it is all personal preference, I was talking to a guy at SL who was telling me he thought the chicas there looked great, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. standing on the walking Ave 4 with your back to the park and ave 2 between calle 6 & 8 you will see a bank. go up the stairs entering the bank turn right after going through the metal detector. You will see a sign directing you to the correct line; don't take a number or a seat.
Bring your passport and american money $26.00 If you use colones you will be assesed the higher sell rate.
You can buy this any time after entering the country and keep it with your passport in the safe.
I like haveing it filled out before getting to the airport; Its one less line to wait in and the less thing to do before leaving.

I have a history of mondering in a few Mexican cities, both tourist traps and off the beaten trails. This past year, I made several trips to the Dom. Rep to sample the fruits. The Dom Rep and Mex and venue in San Jose are apples, oranges and pears. On many fronts. I feel much safer in in San Jose...Del Rey etc., the girls are cleaner and better educated and refined. As for looks...yes in the eye of the monger, however there is a larger pool of girls who fall into the same physical presentation than in Dom. Rep. or Mex. In closing,a monger shouldn't go to McDonalds expecting eggrolls and wonton.

One of the unique traits about the BM and KL, and to some extent the SL (I've presonally never been) is that you get a smorgassboard of girls in one locale. All sizes, shapes and textures. If you can't get laid there, you didn't bring enough money, lol. Last time I stayed at the DR, I only set foot outside the hotel to cross the street to KL and/or walk down the street to Chubbs sports bar. I didn't have to take a cab anywhere. When I first started going to CR about seven years ago, the majority of the girls were from CR. Now you have a wide variety of nationalities that bring their own personal traits from their respective countries. What's not to like about that? In addition, it used to be that during the day it was just dogs out before 5 pm. Now the daytime talent is actually pretty nice, if you're looking for an afternoon pop. I too have been to the Dominican Republic and Panama many times. There are no real places that operate under one roof with the talent that SJ had to offer. In addition, you pretty much have to take taxis to get to the hot spots in those countries. One of my friends swears by Panama, I say CR, hands down for my likes.

I think you can pay the tax at pretty much any national bank in Costa Rica. I always use the bank right accross the street from the Morazon, a 30 second walk from the Del Rey.

Trust me, "everybody" doesn't "rave" about Costa Rica -- you are a prime example, along with a bunch of others. Even fans like myself (I've been a dozen times or so) generally consider it a solid to good mongering option that can't begin to compare to such spots as Rio, Buenos Aires, Bangkok/Pattaya, etc. Like you said, it is an easy and convenient and relatively cheap destination. Having said that, many mongers like myself who travel to Costa Rica repeatedly manage over time to learn the lay of the land and to develop a network of lady friends. I have been lucky enough to meet and spend time with a handful of very classy and attractive ladies who would rank highly on most anybody's scale. My current favorita could pass for a fashion model. She is educated, owns her own car, does photography and web design for an advertising agency.
I'm sorry you found the Sportsmens Lodge to be so slow and uninspiring. Bad timing, I guess. I have generally had pretty good luck there, probably pulling a couple dozen or so ladies out of there over the last 4 years. You can show up at 5pm say, and things are pretty slow. A couple of beers later, the place is loaded with options. The same goes for the Del Rey & Key Largo. The talent pool can shrink or expand in a minute. Even in San Jose, a little persistence can really pay off.
IMO, Hotel Little Havana has really gone downhill. The management has done a very thorough job of sucking all of the fun out of the place. Unlike the old days, the hotties don't work there for very long. In this case, maybe I'm the victim of bad timing, but I have only sessioned there once in the last year or so, out of a dozen or so visits. I've had MUCH better luck at Bar Idem, even though it is somewhat overpriced.

Thank you for your comments. I don’t disagree with you, just wanted to clarify that as Fuddzie put it “a monger shouldn't go to McDonalds expecting eggrolls and wonton” and that in my view Costa Rica is a Mc Donalds in a not-so safe neighborhood. By safe I don’t mean “I am so important someone is going to kidnap me” I mean “I am so visible someone is going to attempt to rob me (not that I am wearing gold chains in public, just because I am a foreigner)”. But yes, given the options in the area I see where CR is better than Mexico, DR or Panama. And yes if I were on vacation I would get out of the tourist spots but unfortunately usually I don’t have time and can only monger within immediate proximity of my hotel.
BTW I am sending this from Brazil where mongering is great but horribly expensive!

You should think of going to CR to check it out. Lots of neat stuff to do there, as well as a pretty good mongering scene. If you don't mind being on a bus for several hours, the Tica Bus between Panama City and San Jose is not too bad, and it's a cheap trip to make. Otherwise you could get on either Air Panama or Aeropearlas out of PTY for around $ 100.00 one way.
Last time I did it in 2008 it ran me $ 99.00 -one way.
If I ever get back to Cen. America - and I am kind of burnt out on it all right now - then perhaps we should get together for that drink. I buy you one - you buy me one- and first thing you know we will be 'happy as a couple of kids in a candy store".

You should think of going to CR to check it out. Lots of neat stuff to do there, as well as a pretty good mongering scene. If you don't mind being on a bus for several hours, the Tica Bus between Panama City and San Jose is not too bad, and it's a cheap trip to make. Otherwise you could get on either Air Panama or Aeropearlas out of PTY for around $ 100. 00 one way.
Last time I did it in 2008 it ran me $ 99. 00.one way.

Sundays during the football season don't attract San Jose's best talent. The Sportsman's Lodge being the prime sportsbar in San Jose had a ratio of about 5 guys per chica. The Del Rey had about 1 to 1 but the selection was awful. Most of the ordinary looking chicas brought their ugly sister. The hot ones were few and far between. The guys were more interested in the playoff games anyway. Mondays are usually the slowest day of the week with the action building to its most intensity on Fridays and Saturdays. Most of the mps are open on Sundays but close early. There were good selections at New Fantasy and Hotel Little Havana. I checked out the upstairs rooms at the Hotel Little Havana and they are some of the best in San Jose. The prices are similar to the Sportsman's Lodge, L'Amistad, and Dunn Inn with more delux rooms for the money and the additional benefit of all the in house girls you want for $25 per hour. That is a great deal! The Hotel Little Havana has the best cigar bar in Costa Rica with the owner Eddie being the in house expert. Great place to watch a game, enjoy a beer, smoke a cigar and flirt with the girls.

As you have surmised, actual trip reports from San Jose and CR in general are not exactly flowing freely out of the country at this time. I know that things are seemingly a little slow in CR right now - as far as mongering goes - with the present economy - mongering travel to Costa Rica is down quite a bit over what it was previously from a year or two ago.
With all due respect - if you will take the time to do some research by going back to earlier reports I believe you will be able to ascertain what you are looking for from what guys have said about the talent available and the going prices in past reports.
Even with the present economy here and there - the mongering places have not changed, and the prevailing prices have not fluctuated much one way or the other.
FYI- In a nutshell - lots of P4P gals are currently available at the following venues:
Del Rey Hotel, Sportsman's Lodge, Hotel Little Havana, New York Bar, New Fantasy MP, Oasis MP, and many, many other spots throughout San Jose.
There is a fairly comprehensive list (elsewhere on this forum) compiled by Don Gordo on the massage parlors - with names and locations & prevailing prices - and the rest of the gals are available where you can find them - but like strawberries in season - once you find the field - then there are lots and lots of berries to pick.
On their prices - most of the gals at the Del Rey Hotel ,Sportsman's Lodge , or Key Largo club ( across from the Del Rey) will ask for $ 100.00 a pop - but this is just their asking price and can most always be negoiated down to a more realistic figure.
I would think that $ 60-70.00 would work for most of the gals right now at the Del Rey or Sportsman's. I have personally paid as little as $ 40.00 ( Oct. 2009) for a session with a gal from the Del Rey Hotel - granted she was not the 'best berry in the field' - being slightly overweight and less desirable than some of the other hotties - but her price was fair I thought, and worked for me at the time. We went down the street to the Hotel Asia and got a 'short time' room with bath for only $ 8.00 plus the $ 40.00 for her - total was $ 48.00.
You will pay close to that amount for a one hour session with a gal at the New Fantasy massage parlor ( at last check I believe the price for a full service massage was around $ 42.00) , and a little more for the same at Hotel Little Havana. Last time I was there - last October - Oasis MP out near the Machu Pichu resturant just off Paso Calon, was charging $ 22-23.00 for a one hour session.
So that should give you a fairly good idea of what is available in San Jose CR, the prevailing rates, and where to find the action.

As of my early December trip, the rate for bringing a girl to the rooms located at the front of the club(the booths along the stage are no longer there) was 14,500 Colones. A chicas drink, which includes a full contact lap dance in the club, not private, was 4,500 Cs. As reported on the CRT website, the CRT card is once again being honored and includes free entrance but no drinks. Apparently the PR Manager observed that many gringos were taking advantage of the free entrance and drinks which were a part of the discount and not spending on girls or drinks.
I noticed that the quality of girls was down from previous trips, but the numbers were still there(saw 30-40 girls at 11pm). Certainly with the right girl you can negotiate extras (i.e. BBBJ) for a nominal tip. Best to ask prior to agreeing to go to the room. Same thing goes for all San Jose strip clubs but avoid the notorious rip-off spots(Atlantis, Centerfolds, Lipstick, Alcasar, etc.).
I usually avoid IDEM due to the cost of sessioning there (about $70US, which I would rather spend on a hottie from other venues where I can negotiate multiple hours, etc.) but same goes there as well for extras.
As for NF, I usually stop by every trip but the recent price increase(up to about $45 US for an hour now for gringos, plus the tip the girls usually asks for) and the premium gringos pay for being a gringo(Ticos pay about $20) turns me off. I stopped twice in December and observed that the selection was not very appetizing IMHO.
I plan on visiting all of these locations during my February trip and will post an updated report. Pura Vida, Bunda Man.
Spent a weekend in SJ, hadn't been there in a while. Things still about the same, but SJ is like a woman who is not ageing gracefully, she is starting to look a little rough around the edges, but that is just my opinion.
I was dissapointed in the deameanor of the chicas in the Del Rey and did not session, nor was I tempted to, with any of them there. There were some good lookers, not as many as before but enough. I imagine that there were some nice ones there also, but I did not run across them. I talked to several and did not like their come ons and views. I speak fluent Spanish, but I don't look like I do and in talking to a couple of these chicas I heard the comments they would make to their winggirls or amigas or whatever and that was not a turn on at all. It is one thing to be mechanical and business like, but another to rude and cynical. I did talk to one Nica that got freindly at the end, she was saying that the quality of the clients had really decreased in the last couple of years, from what I saw this I believe.
I saw two dudes get rooked by the chicas they were with, they carried them around for an afternoon and night, wined and dined them and then when they went back to the rooms the chicas sprung some big fees on the dudes and it all got sideways.
I was highly dissapointed with the gambling at the Del Rey. I play quite a bit of black jack and in the past have done fine with rummy there. But good lord this trip it was terrible. I noticed that the pit boss had the dealers shorten the shoe when the table would start to do well, actually I heard him tell him to go shorter in Spanish. The VIP black jack table is only VIP for the Del Rey, the rules are terrible and the size of shoe in play basically gives the house a huge, and I mean huge advantage. I was there two days in a row and saw nobody win, including me. I lost big time there. Yet I was able to go over to the Casino at the Clarion and win pretty substantially. Something is surely out of kilter when playing the same way you do well in one location and poorly in another. I am done playing at the Del Rey and most of the casinos around there.
Looked up a chica I knew through a friend in CR (not available to share) and had a great time saturday night. She was surely a pro/am, and much like many of the chicas in SJ used to be. Went over to NF for a rub and a tug, and it was fine, but much higher in price than in the past. I though the selection was OK. Patty, a cute little Nica was very friendly and I always enjoy their steam room, but man I wish they would circulate the steam or put it lower.
All in all things are what they are in SJ. I imagine that there are some good ones in the DR and for the most part still in SJ, but I don't think the overall quality is once what it was.

Sportsmans Lodge - right in the heart of Barro Amon has a nice bar, working girls, and several large screen TV's. I would check them out for watching some of the Olympic games.
Not sure of a good gym....look that up in the phone book when you get there and you should see several of them.

Plus Jessica bartends during the day, can always watch her too, lol. Wish I had thought about booking over Super Bowl weekend, damn. Will have to wait til the week after.

Barrio Amon is a suburb (more or less) of San Jose and is located just 3-4 blocks North of the Hotel Del Rey. I suppose it starts just North of Parque Morazon which is the park adjacent to Morazon Hotel, Key Largo and the Del Rey.
Anyway if I wanted to kick back and have a comfortable place to watch the Super Bowl or the Olympics..... that is where I would go, as they cater 100 % to mongering Gringos.
Some buddies and I are planning a trip somewhere quick (i.e. short direct flight) for 4/5/10 to 4/10/10. We are thinking about CR.
Noticed that April 4th is when Easter falls this year. One of the guys can only go these dates. I know it will be dead during Semana Santa but wondering if the talent will be back on the job the Monday after Easter? Do the Colombianas return a couple of days after Easter after being home? I could not find a specific post that addressed this.
Also thinking about Sportmens Lodge? Seems like pretty good reviews here. I think they have a 3br setup. We rent a 3br condo in Rio every time we go there. Thanks.

i have been for 3 semana santas ( spring break, week before easter.) i rocked s.j and jaco. i am goin this year also!!!. lets keep the demand up. although i speak spanish and have many friends and a family in costa rica. Start using the "Search this thread" function to get tons of useful info. I can help you with a couple of your questions-
Shopping Malls - Yes the San Pedro Mall is very nice, fairly new, and should work well for you. It has some nice shops, a very nice food court with just about anything you would care to eat, and a good movie theater with about 6 screens.
It is located approx. 3 miles due East of the Del Rey Hotel. You can take a taxi the first time you visit (should run you about $ 2.50-3.00 for a taxi)and see where it is...then you can take the bus on your next trip - if you are comfortable doing this. I take buses everywhere in San Jose....good, cheap, safe, and fairly quick transportation.
Bus will be marked on the front with San Pedro Mall and other names. Make sure you get on the right bus. The bus stop to use in on 2nd Ave. ( walk out the main door of the Del Rey (towards Key Largo), turn left, cross the street, walk past the New York Bar on your left, keep walking abut another 2 blocks till you get to 2nd Ave. , cross the street, turn left, walk up about another 1 block until you are in front of an outside flower shop.
That is where you would catch the San Pedro Mall bus. bus ride should be about 35 cents or 110-150 colones.
Ride the bus until you see the Burger King on your right and the Mall will be directly across the street. Ring your bell for the bus there....and then you will go around the Rotunda with the fountain in the middle, and the bus should stop and let you off on the other side. You will then need to walk about 1 block back down the hill to the Mall. Or you can get off before hitting the Mall-if you time it correctly.
On your return to San Jose...the buses stop out in front of the Mall and all of them go into town (San Jose). Ask the driver, " San Jose"...he will say Si...get on and go back to town.
More than likely you will get off at the Mas y Menos Supermarket. Then it's a 2-3 block walk back up to the Del Rey. One of the buses goes a different route and will go to the Morazon Park - which is about 100 yards from the Del Rey.....within sight.
After a couple of bus trips out to the Mall and back - you will figure out which bus to take to get you closer your destination - on the return trip.
Best Restaurant -
This is like asking what is the best car - there will be several answers depending upon the person who answers....but for my money I like to take gals out to the Lukas Restaurant. It is very nice, with good waiters, good food that is reasonably priced - moderate - like $ 6.00 - $ 7.00 US for a steak dinner- drinks, wine, and all the trimmings.
It is North from the gulch about 3-4 miles, and should run you about $ 3-4.00 by taxi. There are lots of other fine restaurants...but I will let you discover them or ask others what their opinion on that is.
Strip Club -
There's De Pulufio's - just a few blocks East from the San Pedro Mall...does not open until about 11 PM. There was a small cover charge-like $ 3.00 -$ 4.00- which included 2 drinks- and they did not hassel you to purchase more drinks and also the ladies do not bother you at all.
Another club - Pantera Rosa....have not been there in a long time, but it used to be good.
Any place in San Jose to get good ribs? I don't want to be charged an arm and leg for a rack ( of pig nor woman) of decent ribs. Maybe even goat or lamb will do

The only place I know is JR Ribs. Never been myself but lots of fellow mongers seem to like it, though most say to stay away from the coleslaw for health reasons. Cost wise I think it's comparable to what you would pay in the states.

As for restaurants near the gulch. I've always liked taking chicas to La Esquina de Buenos Aires for some really good Argentine beef. Kinda pricey ($40 for two to get stuffed with filet, wine, coffee and dessert). A block down the street is Tin Jo and Don Wang, both highly recommended asian food places. I also like the menu at Cafe Mundo near La Amistad. Also, don't forget about the restaurant at la Amistad. The food is awesome. The chicas sometime like to go dancing at El Pueblo. I once took a few to Papa Pez seafood place there and they really liked it. Not too expensive.
As for strip clubs. I stay out of them. But thats just me.

I don't believe that I could say that I have ever been to Alajuela - except I have come and gone from the International Airport many times.
Action or P4P gals will be where you find them. That is - there may be a few who live out near Alajuela, and there may actually be a masage parlor or two out in that area of town - but for the most part you will find the "action" in other parts of town (San Jose).
Mainly downtown - near the what is called the gulch - adjacent to the Del Rey Hotel - within 4-5 blocks. Now there are little bars all over town where one can find some action even in the outlaying areas. Mostly these bars will be what I would call Tico places - spots where Tico guys hang out and maybe a couple ot Tica gals- who - for a price- will session for sex for money.
Also there are massage parlors located in different sections of town for action, and of course places like the Del Rey Hotel - which I think could safely be called "the P4P action capital of Costa Rica".
If you have been there you know what I mean - if not - then you need to check it out - and then don't worry to much about going out to Alajuela - unless you just want to enjoy a taxi or bus ride out there and back.

I just came back from San Jose and I had a great time, mainly by doing my homework. I have a lot of thanks to Jackson and the members of this website.
I would love to monger more, but this sorry city I live in (Las Vegas) doesn't have a lot of nonstop destinations and most of the people here are trapped behind slot machines.
It takes me 2 flights (10 hours) each way, when I could get there in 4 hours non-stop. I would travel more on my days off, but 20 hours in travelling time?
I booked through expedia ($600) for three nights. I flew with AA and I stayed at the Hotel Parque Del Lago (HPDL). I know, its not P-central. I stayed there, partly to report back what they have to offer and not offer.
I was actually intrigued when I saw they were offering in-room massages. I went to the Philippines one time and my hotel had in-room service as well as a place in the hotel to go. Needless to say, 80% of my mongering was in my room, the other 20 was around the city. I never went to the place inside of the hotel. It was $20 for full service, btw.
As it turns out, their (HPDL) service is on the up and up. It cost me $50 for a deep tissue massage-which was great. I got the feeling it was going to be legit when I read their sign at the F/D that said, it will cost you $150 to bring in a chica. This is if you don't register her at check-in.
HPDL is my kind of hotel. I like hotels like Marriotts and Hiltons when I travel. I don't care if they are not chica friendly, I like to be comfortable at the end of the day.
Besides, I am in my late 40's and I am not trying to conquer (the ladies) in any city I visit.
I read the report on MP's and I saw that the "Oasis" was close by. I decided to take a look at the place and area, the day before. Its easy to get to from the hotel. Only about 4 blocks east on Paseo Colon (at the corner is a KFC) turn at the kfc,one block north!
Thanks to the member who stated that the Oasis is directly across the street from the Machu Picchu Restaurant. When I got to the area, there are no signs of Oasis.
I saw this guy who looked like the "Gatekeeper" and figured that must be the place. The "hood" looked okay and it is within walking distance, so I was set.
I like to go to MP's early. My theory is that, 1. she is fresh. 2. She is not in a bad mood from a bad customer. So, I went about 11am. When I got there, a woman began to explain the prices and times. She started to call for the other girls (4 were there) but I told her it was okay. I looked over and saw exactly who I wanted-Faviola. (damn).
Faviola-young (maybe 21) tica. She looked exactly like a girl I had in the Dominican. Both wore a body hugging black dress, model body (symmetrical) I don't like fat asses or big hips, I like them slim. Both women have long black hair and with their white skin against their black dresses-forget about it.
I did the 1/2 hour for 12k colons (about $25). In vegas terms, that's a bargain. Faviola was all GFE. I loved the way she would say "mi amor" when she asked me questions. Not to brag, but I have did (all I want to do), so the things that interest me at my age are threesome's or 9's and 10's if it is solo. When I go back, I will do a 3 some.
I almost nutted just watching her strip. I feel I have got to get a 9/10 if going solo, so that if she turns out to be a dud, I can just look at her beauty and get a pop. In the end, I did mish and she kept grabbing my ass to pull me deeper? I don't know, but we both enjoyed it.
I speak fluent spanish, but I try to do things that a member could do if he didn't speak the language. I don't try to tell anyone what to do or not do. I write about my experience and let members decide what can help them in their journeys. For me, I just want to experience the women (natives) in each country. I want to get in and get out. I don't want to go someplace that I have to worry about my safety.
There is a bank across the street from HPDL, Bank of Costa Rica, you can pay your exit tax and they gave an exchange rate of c556 compared to the hotels' c545. There are alot of restaurants nearby, the hotel has complimentary breakfast (full) and free wifi in your room.

Does anyone know of any university's/education centers that are close enough to monger locations yet isolated enough to where the students or school officials would not notice. I have been given the opportunity to set up a summer study abroad program in economics. My employer will pay for me to take two weeks for exploratory set up and then it would be a summer program every year after that. This seems like a great opportunity to combine both work and pleasure while my trip cost and stay would be paid for by my employer. Any information on education centers in San Jose or any of the other monger locations would be greatly appreciated.

i've read alot of her statements made over the past 10 yrs. as a mental health professional, she is very concerned about child prostitution and families in crisis. she is not for gay marriage or abortion, not unlike many in the us. she won with 47 percent of the vote because people feel she is best for the economic problems costa rica is having. as we know, politicians don't like to be caught with their pants down, especially republicians, which we could lable her as. with a quarter and more of the tourist trade coming from our adventures, and desires; i don't believe she is going to change anything except close the mp's and strip clubs. my guess is thst establishments like the dr and sl, are self controlled for ****d and drug trafficing woman.
with this all said, i'm not worried. as a matter of fact, i would expect additional placed like the dr and sl to pop up
but how do you think others more "connected" with the costa rican sex trade than you are dealing with the possibility that your predictions will come true!

with this all said, i'm not worried. as a matter of fact, i would expect additional placed like the dr and sl to pop upthese three sizable groups of people may not be in the your "don't worry, be happy" mode of thinking regarding the election of the new president and are deeply concerned about the possibility that closure of all/part of the costa rican sex trade will affect them adversely!
to be sure, the "outlawing" of mps and strip clubs is eliminating the affordability/convenience of sex that most "users" have become accustomed to(and, for a good many ex-pats, especially the single males, imo, the affordability/convenience of sex played a significant role in their decision to move to costa rica to begin with!) and is their "worse nightmare"! to whit:
group i-the gringo ex-pats(many being pensioners/retirees) who live on a limited budget or fixed income and can not afford to spend the $60. 00+/hour for a "roll in the hay" with an sp from the bmb, kl and sl(the "gringo bars", so to speak)! add to this, if they have no choice(assuming the mps and strip clubs are closed down) but to go to the gringo bars to seek sex; they don't live in a "gringo gulch" hotel so they would have the added expense of using a local "hot sheet"(st) hotel!
group ii-the sex workers themselves who work in mps and strip clubs who would lose their livelyhood and (because of looks, age, competition, "working" hour requirements, etc.), have very little chance of moving into the gringo bar "arena" to resume "making a living"! in addition, imo, but i'm fairly certain of this, the sp populations of the mps combined with the strip bars far exceeds those of the gringo bars!
lastly, group iii-the tico men themslves, who can, imo, for the most part, barely afford the reduced tico pricing of either/or of the mps and the strip bars as, for most, buying "company" at a gringo bar, is even beyond a "pipe dream"!
so fuddzie, some groups are worried as, if the mps and/or the strip bars are closed down, their quality of life will "take a direct hit"!

Who knows what's going to happen..to be sure sex ain't going anywhere regardless of who does what. I believe the new pres is a psychologist, and as a mental health professional myself, I can appreciate where she is coming from why she wants to do away with our sport. It's difficult for me to disagree with her reasoning. On the other hand, there needs to be other choices for the woman than dealing with us mongers. We do show care and concern. We do respect the woman, city and country. Her job will be to show the woman a better life than what we have to provide them. Until that time, we will continue to be a good employer. Otherwise if she takes our license to hunt, crime and abuse and drugs will rule as never before. We do have a positive role to play for the well being of Costa Rica

had a great trip mid december – mid january.
hung out in san josé for a week, then off to the beach for xmas and new years
.
tried out a couple mps: masajes oasis, veronica massge terapeuta profesional, new fantasy, calle 6, hostel marruecos, idem, relax to name a few; the del ray, key largo, sportsman’s; was so occupied i did not have a moment to step into havana cigar bar (prices are high and girls have not been as good as in the past).
i found the prices to be the same if not a little cheaper. the most i paid for a del ray or key largo session was 20 mil. i even paid 15 mil for an afternoon session out of the del ray. all the girls from the mp’s were willing to come back to the hotel for 15 – 20 mil. for 1.5 – 3 hours session’s. this was true the week before xmas and the week after new years. look for pics in photo section
had a few great meals at hotel la amistad and restaurante lamma fortune and the friday / saturday night buffet at the colonial is a great deal: free if your playing at the tables or slots and get a ticket.
i had taken the bus out of coco cola last november and it worked well so i thought i’d give it another try. i arrived at coca cola at 5:45 am to find the bus already loading and a line that i was now at the end of. needless to say the bus; people standing and sitting in the aisles left without me and three other chica’s (american & english) at 6. after a brief conversation i got on the phone and called a friend who has a van / taxi (he works the airport and is available for trips to jaco /puntarenas etc. pm me for contact info) he showed up 20 min’s later and we were off to puntarenas, we made a stop for gas and coffee and were on the same boat as the bus that had left without us. i had called a friend at the beach during the ride and he hooked me up with another taxi who met us at the ferry and helped carry the bags. after stopping to shop for groceries we arrived 45 min’s ahead of the bus, merry xmas.
i returned to san jose after the new years via the new high way (it was only opened to orintina) but what a fast ride ( taking bets as to how long it will take to totally litter the sides of the highway and when the first pot hole will appear). i like the ride up and over the mountain from orintina and when the buses & trucks start to use the new autopista i will consider using the old route’s as well as the new, less buses and trucks means a faster / safer trip; especially at night.
the new president has her hands full with structurally obsolete infrastructures, attacking new jobs in this global recession, crime on the streets as well as in the governmental offices, drugs and i for one will not waste my or anyone’s time speculating as to when she will shut down the trade. or why a guy in his 80’s is trying to sell his pink hotel / bar / casino. i will and have bought future plane tickets for 2010 thru november and i am looking for that affordable ticket for xmas / new years but so far they want $1100.00 +/- and pricing like that and $100.00 punta’s will do more to shut me out & shut down the cr / san jose trade then laura ever will.

I tend to agree with people who believe that nothing of a substantive nature will transpire. The president and her administration have a lot bigger issues to deal with than closing down the Del Rey. Also, if she went after the Del Rey and other places she would be putting an enormous number of people out of work. Hotel workers, bartenders, waiters, technicians, etc. not to mention a lot of girls who depend on P4P to support themselves, their children and mothers.
On the other hand, local governments have very recently shut down famous venues like Help Disco in Rio and the Riviera Club in Barcelona and it could happen here, too. So, it can and does happen! Chinchilla has also specifically singled out the Del Rey I've heard. If any actions can be taken to PREVENT this from happening it would be wise to enact them now and be proactive.

I am wondering how much money we pump( seem like a good word to use ) into San Jose; Airport and hotel taxes, food, taxis, site seeing, alcohol and stuff we take back home for friends and family. And thats just from our trips, howabout the thousands of dollars each day that the girl puts into the system. We are very important people and Mrs. Pres. would be ill advised to screw ( seems like a good word to use too) with us.

Paddy, it seems interesting that you choose both of those venues closing to illustrate you point, since my "fun times" where negatively impacted on each occasion. The Riv in Barcelona was a great place, but the closing of Help was a little like a death in the family......lol The one thing I am sure of, it a rare, enlightened gov't official that will look at the economic impact before taking action in this arena, let's hope it happens in this case!
The profession is far too ingrained in their culture. No Del Rey? Another place, and then another, or only on the street, or whatever, but finito? Nunca in CR.

In addition to my diabtribe; how much money are the US airlines making off us? Mrs. Pres will be coming to see Sr. Obama in true Latin American style..her hand out. I can't imagine there isn't someone who know's someone in D.C. who might be able to have her see the consequence of she is serious.
It's hard to predict what will eventually happen, if anything, to the sex trade in Costa Rica with the election of Laura Chinchilla as president!
This forum, from what I have been reading, seems to contain two "camps" of thought; that either nothing will happen and the "status quo" will be maintained or that there will be some negative intervention, but, to what extent, only questions and speculation!
These comments are directed to the posters that have voiced their opinion and believe that the new president will leave the sex trade "as is" as she MUST know that, if the sex trade suffers, the general Costa Rican economy will suffer and it is really not a good time for this to happen!
Guys, with all my heart and soul, I hope you are correct but, I believe, that social conservatism(I perceive Ms. Chinchilla to be a social consevative) and tolerance of a sex trade are, usually, mutually exclusive!
Unfortunately, it is an emotional "thing", and "logical" thinking, usually, takes a "back seat" as to get rid of a sex trade, labeling is as a "national shame" and/or against "family/religious values", usually becomes a "slogan of action"!(I welcome any information regarding ANY major city and/or country that openly encourages sex tourism in their of Dept./Ministry of Tourism's official literature!).
Ms. Chinchilla, I believe, was, in part, elected because of her perceived high "ethical" and "moral" standards and her political "base"/constituency, as well, is conservative and is expecting her to "do the right thing" and close down the Costa Rican sex trade, "once and for all"!.(Unfortunately, I believe, she knows that those who work in the sex trade, directly or indirectly, could and can not be counted as part of her "base"!).
Unfortunately, on many levels, the sex trade numbers are too small relative to the general Costa Rican population(and many of this group are legal/non-legal foreigners with a non-voting status) and just doesn't "give credence" to the fact that this is group she needs to maintain her power base!
Unfortunately, the argument that countless jobs will be lost is often "countered" by the opinion that these "sex workers" were employed in a "disgraceful manner"(in strip/p4p bars and MPs) and do not deserve the same consideration that people in "normal" jobs receive!
What may be acknowledged, however, depending on how strong the downtown San Juan hotels and restaurants are "politically connected", is the loss of revenue that they will suffer as a result of the lack of sex tourists. But, then again, I don't believe many social conservatives will "shed many tears" for them. either!
So, it's a real "crap shoot" and we can only hope that "cooler heads prevail" and our beloved opportunities for mongering remain the same as they have been since 1894(the year prostitution was legalized in Costa Rica!).

So, OK, this may be the key issue. Does Chinchilla or do people in her administration have the ACTUAL legal or constitutional power to simply shut down a private enterprise without due process??? I mean, does she have the legal authority to issue an executive order to shut down a privately owned business like Del Rey on a whim??? If you tried a stunt like that in the US the corporation would fight back and hang the government in court for 5 years minimum. I fully understand that we're talking about CR here and due process may be a novel concept.
Also, I have read that prositution has been LEGAL in CR since 1895. How can you shut down a private enterprise for allegedly doing something that has been legal and acceptable for over a hundred years???

I'm sure it is general knowledge that elected representitives, in a democratic republic form of government, have the ability and power to make, eliminate and change laws(even those that have been "in place" for many years!). It is no secret that this is done, in most situations, it is perceived to be "in the public's best interest" and/or as a reaction to "public pressure"!).
As, I stated in my previous report, outlawing the Costa Rican sex trade, full or in part, would effect countless individuals economically(the workers) and socially(those who find enjoyment patronizing it) and serves no logical purpose except to attempt to regulate morality!

I read on the Costaricablush.com website that the Margaritas Night Club (a well known strip joint) in San Jose was raided and closed by the Costa Rican Investigative Police (OIJ)two days ago. The owner was allegedly "pimping".
This could be interpreted in many ways I guess. Perhaps it's just a random occurance unrelated to the new Presidente. On the other hand, it may be the shape of things to come now that Laura Chinchilla is coming on board. Regardless, it's an ominous sign and I, for one, will be watching developments very closely before I buy plane tickets to SJ.
What are your thoughts???

I see it as a very likely scenario in an attempt to remove the stigma associated with Costa Rica as a sex haven. As someone else suggested, the game will be played underground, but who the hell wants to go to Costa Rica if places like the del rey, new fantasy and S. L. Close down. I don't want the hassle of having to worry about walking the streets with a girl at my side.
Start looking at Colombia and/or Domenican Republic.
