Usually by around 4 tenths of a peso per dollar. On the USA Side, I've found that the various ABC cambios tend to give the best deals. But they are not the same as one another, and the 5 different ABC cambios I know of could offer 5 different rates. But the difference seems to never be more than a tenth of a peso per dollar.

The different ABC cambios rates are always posted, and always no commission. Yesterday, they were all giving between 18.43 and 18.52 when I changed $50 at about 2:30 PM for my quick bombing run into the Zona. The sell rates for dollars were all between 18.6 and 18.7.

When I crossed the border, the places in MX were giving just over 18 pesos per dollar, and the sell rates for dollars were between 18.25 and 18.3.

If one was actually changing a fair amount of money, and planning on crossing the border in both directions anyways the differences in rates across the border presents a small arbitrage opportunity - but not if you factor in the value of your time.

Cars parked in the outlet mall overnight will most certainly be towed. The mall managers get kick backs from the tow yards, so they really work on it.

You can park free on side streets behind the KFC, but Wednesday morning after 8 is street sweeping time. Read to posted signs for that. I parked my car there for a night or so no problem before.

There are lots of free parking on the street behind the Days Inn along the rail road track, leading to the parking lot behind the J I be, but I have seen a lot of broken glass every time I went through, so it's not worth the risks.

A tweaker is likely to rip off but should be the easiest to tell and I don't believe they could stand still. Centro does have its drainage system which drains, along with sewage from various parts of town, into the Tijuana river. The effluence then flows out to the ocean, sometimes washes North, contaminating Imperial and Coronado Beaches with bacteria.

Tijuana's fathers have done a steady but slow job in cleaning up and improving various streets around Coahuila in La Zona with new sidewalks, medians with palm trees, and banning garbage dumps on the streets.

I am glad there is some rain to wash off the gunk and funk on the streets. The bars have invested money into paving and regularly cleaning their parts of the sidewalks on Coahuila and in the alley, but the food vendors are still dumping their waste water onto the streets.

The dive bars and roach hotels on Constitucion and Ninos have not paved their sidewalks, full of holes and uneven, broken concrete, a hazard walking in the dark at night. You can break your legs easily if you step into those holes. I would not walk those dark sidewalk at night anyway due to potential choke hold rateros.

A lot of Tijuana residents, living on hills and in ravines South of El Centro, would pray to God that it never rains in Baja.

Shanty towns dotting the hillsides around Tijuana have lots of the houses built on unstable land. Heavy and prolonged rain can saturate and crumple the soil, causing random massive land slides of large hill sides, taking houses and people with it, and bury houses and people down below. It's one of the most feared natural disasters.

In the new barrios in Otay Mesa, East of El Centro, where the new factories were build on high mesas, whole neighborhoods on lower ground were washed away in flash floods a few years back.

I was in downtown Cancun when a rain storm created massive rivers of rain water on sidewalks, washing down to the Nizucte Lagoon and the ocean. Children were out swimming in those yellow rivers. BTW, that lagoon is full of putrid Mexican sewage dumped down from downtown Cancun for decades. Don't even think of dipping your feet in it.

Understand the precarious life and poverty of girls and waiters working long hours in the bars. Show them your understanding, empathy and give them some of your generosity.

I've been to Tijuana twice before, and it's been OK, both times a huge learning experience.

I've gone back some 60 odd pages or so in this forum, because I want to focus this next trip on the alley girls.

If Captain Solo or someone else is available to share some drinks and dinner with. I would love to take a long walk and get eyes on what I've been reading in here, before I go. Solo through the rest of my trip.

I do Pattaya once or twice a year, Brazail (Sao Paulo) every few years, and Germany ever few years. What a place -that- is. I live in Norcal, and want to be better with Tijuana. It's a totally different kind of place.
