i'm not sure of the exact time that the bar officially "opens", maybe one of the tj pros on here can answer that. but the last time i was in tj, i stuck my head inside adelita bar and took a quick peek at around 11am or so (on a weekday) and it was open, although i distinctly remember seeing more waiters than women at that time. but they were definitely open for business; might have even been a little before 11am.

I have been going to TJ for many years, CJ has great advise,and you use protocols stated on the is board you will be fine. Search your way thru all the the information and you will be fine day or night.
Also some of us like me try to stay away from the buildings and prefer to walk away from them and walk on the streets. There are to many blind spots by these buildings where things have been known to happen.
As far as eating I prefer a place on revolucion ave. called La especial this place has been open for forty years, it is a little hard to find, because it is in a little cubby hole off the main drag, walk about 2 blocks north of the Hai lie (wrong spelling) and there will be a little taco stand called La Especial greats tacos, but right next to it there is set of stairs that you take and you will find the restaurant with good menu and is always full. That will give you some indication as to the quality of place.
Meanwhile you can walk and enjoy the exitement during the walk with some bar barkers are begging you to come in, and lots of nice people trying to sell their wares. At night most of these places close down except for the bars that are on the main drag.

Years ago I enjoyed this cafe but the past few times I've tried it in the past 2 years it sucked. The chips were loaded with grease to the point I could only eat a couple. The carne asada which had been my favorite tasted more lik LIVER. I swear, no exaggeration.

Years ago I enjoyed this cafe but the past few times I've tried it in the past 2 years it sucked. The chips were loaded with grease to the point I could only eat a couple. The carne asada which had been my favorite tasted more lik LIVER. I swear, no exaggeration.
Yes, the atmosphere is nice and the waiters attentive. Margaritas are good but they could use a female waitress or 3. With a few cuties serving up the food I could over look steak tasting like liver perhaps.
Oh, there tacos are actually made from hamburger seasoned nicely but greasy as I recall.Maybe they thought you ordered higado asada! :-)
I always stuck with their specials. Had some really good steak tips albanil, and very good birria de res. Chips are a bit "authentic." All waiters. I think this may connote a more "upscale" joint.

Ate my regular Carne Asada at La Especial last weekend and it was the same as it has been for the almost 20 years I have been eating there. Tourista prices yes, but the quality is good. No female staff is true, always has been that way, but not a problem for me.
The best Taco stand is the one in an actual building across the street and to the right from Hong Kong Bar.
Shouldn't this be about Adelitas and the girls?

I agree with wazup. Create a new section for food blogs. Also matthewt is right about drinks. You really have to be more careful and it's not worth it to complain to the waiters about a $3. 50 drink, they don't really give a rat's ass. You shouldn't be disrespectful to these waiters either. They're there trying to earn an honest buck. Just this past Saturday there was a situation near the bar on the right hand side where some guy was standing there and next thing I see is one of the waiters pointing him out to a police officer. I didn't think much of the situation I thought he said something to a girl and she didn't want him there. Next thing I see is the cop putting this guy in some chokehold. The guy then drops to the floor and the cop finally had him in cuffs. Later that night I was outside cooling off and I saw the same cop who was inside earlier. I asked him what the guy did and he responded with, "he was being disrespectful to the waiters. " Then the cop corrects me and says I didn't put him in a chokehold I put him in a submission hold. Lesson of that night, don't mess with waiters and for sure don't ever touch a cop. That's a lesson learned the hard way for dude.
Anyway on with the good stuff. Last week 11-10-07 I didn't see my regular there. Anyone know what's up with Pamela? I was posted by the bar and noticed a girl there who I hadn't seen before. I have had poor service 3 times in a row. The girls seem to be less than interested in working there. They want to have a 10 min. session and only do one or two positions before they start the "hurry up" routine. It seems that the negotiation down stairs doesn't make it up stairs with us.

Jesus H Christ, we compalin about paying $3.25 for a gallon of gas but have no trouble paying a couple hundred for a gallon of water or a gallon of starbucks fucked up coffee that some chica or chicas pour down their pie hole.
So get your experience quick by paying attention to the trip reports and observing what's going on in the club. Any monger who can't stretch $200 far enough to cover a couple sessions and a few beers ought to be taken to the wood shed by someone like Jay Love and taught how to handle mongermuny.

Let me say for the record that with the ex ception of my present live-in of 2-1/2 years, Salma will always be rememberd by me as one of the coolest and beautiful girls I met in the Zona. Most of you regulars please ignore this.
Easy way to do it is.Research San diego Trolley service and stay close to it's stations. Gas Lamp District is 1 I think.
TAke it to the last stop-Mexico US border. Make sure:
A) Do not carry much cash 100-200 MAX in $10 bills if you are alone.
B)Heading south Go West on the bridge. Do not talk in your language loudly and stand out in the crowd.
C) make sure you carry Passport/Visa etc. Don't be so dead drunk that you can't face US customs when you come back.
D) Abso carry no drugs. And respect Govt. Officers.
Once you are at cab station. Behave confident and ask the middleman Aveneda Club just costs 5 Dollars but very rarely you will meet a Driver who hates you and will drop you in some dangerous area and you could get in trouble. They won't do that with a gang.
Once there chill. Do NOT make quick decisions. Some who look the best have worst attitudes. They will stand and [CodeWord140] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord140) and not take bath before and after. Some will behave like a harpooned fish outside and dead, once in-side, Fridays are fun but very busy. And some look good and do good. So use your mongering experience and take chance. Use condoms.

nice tips, but my biggest pet peeve is the place is called adelita. a taxi driver will charge you less if you confidently ask for the right place. if you ask for avenida or the other bastardizations of the name, the driver will know you're a noob and will tax you. avenida means avenue and there are lots of avenidas in tj so if he doesn't guess you're a monger wanting adelita, he'll either stare at you blankly as if you got in a taxi in the us and told the driver you wanted to go to "avenue", or he'll figure you want to go to a fleece joint on avenida revolucion which is where you go if you want an overpriced american strip club experience.
also, the rooms at the hotel above adelita are $12 for 30 min. so if doc gave the girl $20 for the room and she didn't give him change, then he gave her an $8 tip.
i also respectfully disagree about the not making quick decisions. on a busy weekend night, some of the girls that are total hotties and give service don't even make in the door before someone grabs her to take her back upstairs. if you wait you might not get the girl you want. the good news is there are several stunning chicas so you'll have several options.

Check out the zoo; be prepared to haul ass if a tiger gets loose though. LOL. There are lots of fine restaurants. There are casinos; play some 21 blackjack or roulette. There's also sports bars. All these things cost money though; when you're in TJ, you're "consuming"; you're not producing anything. And the prices for women in TJ relative to women stateside. Girls on Craigs List go for at least $100 per 30 minutes stateside. You can't beat a place like TJ. Save and plan for a worth while trip; whether that be monthly, quarterly, etc...

I probably wouldn't mind bar hopping from club to club and simply sit down and watch the shows and girls, I've done it before. The only problem is that I've never really been big on clubs and bars. I haven't become accustomed to their environment. 1 hour in one of those clubs and I get a headache and feel lightheaded from all the loud music and second hand smoke. At times I have no choice but to get up and go outside just to get a breath of fresh air and normal lighting.
Zoo huh? Where is that at? One other problem I have is that I am limited to my travel distance. I walk to the border which means I'm on foot in Tj. And even though Taxi's are relatively cheap in Tj compared to the US, that cuts into my chica and drink money. Honestly I spend more money on drinks for the girls than on myself. I only drink water. Well up until now I'm still undecided on whether I will go for New Years eve or New Years day, or maybe even this Sunday. And Jay Love is right, I'm planning and have been saving for a worthwhile trip this time around. I haven't gone in a while. It's time to go back and finally have some fun again. This time around, my mission is to sleep with as many hot chicas as my budget will allow and I doubled my regular Tj budget. I can't wait!

There is a restaurant on the north side of the Alley closest to Constitution that used to be open to the Alley. I'd go in there and drink coffee rather than sit n the bars. You're right, it sure was a site watching the mongers kick their game. You could tell the vets from the noobies. It was always good fun.
Then they closed the restaurant in and now I can't do that anymore. A real drag. I'd spend hours there.
IF you doubled your monger budget then double your scrooge valve. Don;t spend ANY money on nonsense and don't buy anything you don't need.

No, I found a chair and sat on it. It was inside a hall or something so it wasn't like I was sitting in the street. Stayed watching for about 2 hours. At one point a few girls(non SG) all wearing shirts with the same logo began talking to some of the SGs asking them why they where doing what they where doing. Then a while later a whole bunch of these people with the logos marched through the alley protesting.
Wait, I already told this story in a previous thread.
By the way, what's the weather like in tj? Is it as cold and gloomy as L.A. has been recently? Should I take a coat or a sweater?

When I think of KOS (which isn't often) I am reminded that every village needs an idiot and so he would be our idiot.
He must also have an arrangement with Jackson that Jackson doesn't talk about. I know that I would be banned if I behaved like that (as I should) and Jackson must therefore have his reasons for giving this guy so much rope.
He is controversial, he gets people posting so the post counts go up etc. He is a bit of a clown and therefore entertaining. I once asked Jackson why this gu has his own thread but got no reply. So go figure.
Think of KOS as a "shock-jock" poster. It doesn't take a brain. I ignore him and try to get on with helping out here and there where I can.

I might be thinking of a different street but if I'm recalling correctly, on the south-west of callejon Cahuilla, there is a really tiny restaurant/eatery that only has a bar where you sit on stools on the street. Of course, I'm most likely wrong and there is no such place on that street. But if there is, you can sit there, eat a few tacos and watch the SG show.
I'll verify this next time I go.

I started off at HK yesterday at about 3:00pm. Beers are two for one and had a total of six. Not a good idea as I had not eaten anything all day. At about 4:30 I decided to go to AB and find a trophy girl. I tried out a hottie with green eyes. Her name is camila from mazatlan. I bought her a ficha drink and she drank it in about 2 minutes and then asked me if I wanted to go upstairs. I wanted to spend a bit longer downstairs but paying for a ficha drink every 2 minutes was going to add up quick. I agreed to go upstairs but because of my lack of reasoning due to 6 beers and no food I did not bargain at all downstairs. I got a high five from another monger sitting at a booth next to us as we went upstairs. Once we got up stairs camila asks me to pay her first. I asked how much and she said 70. I gave her 80 and expected my change of $10 but she told me that she would keep it as her tip. At this point I was a bit upset because the going rate at AB is 60 and camila wanted to take an extra 20 from me. Well its my fault for not negotiating beforehand.
After finishing she washed up and left down stairs. As soon as she got down to the bar and before she could take off her coat another monger wanted to take her up. This girl is hot and gets a lot of action. If you want to have a good time I would not recommend her as she will rush you a bit and try to take advantage.
After relaxing for about an hour at AB I went to the alley for a final run. There was not much to pick from but decided on a nice cutie form Mexico City. No rush no hassles for 30.

The first warning bell is when they won't sit with you for a bit. Guzzling drinks in 2 minutes, then asking to go arriba, is, in my experience, a harbinger of things to come, none of them good.
You know the worst part isn't making bad decisions based on too many beers. We've all done that. It's the idiot horndogs lining up, hopping from one foot to the next, waiting for these girls. No wonder they get an inflated sense of worth, and a deflated sense of performance.

I have rarely bought dinks for the girls, but the few times I have, I have asked the girls to taste them myself, and the mixed drinks were usually nothing more than juice; possibly even watered-down juice. Makes sense though, you can't expect anyone to drink so much liquor in one night.

I've never asked to taste-test the chica beer; the bottles are so small anyways that I always assumed it was beer. Even for a woman I think it would take quite a few of them to get buzzed? Sometimes the girls don't even drink it all anyways.
Yeah the lady drinks look mostly watered down. Plus most of it is ice. They can finish it in one gulp. Except for when they order a bottle of beer. I doubt those are tampered. Chicas rarely order beer though.

And for not having the correct change too. Always be sure to have plenty of of change like 5's, 1's and tens. I've been short changed before by the waiters so I make sure never to give them anything bigger than a 5 or ten. 5 for when I buy a bottled water and a ten for when I buy the chica drink which is usually around 7 bucks.
I went to the hotel reception to change my 100 dollar bill to smaller bills. Really doubt that guy would ever purposely short change someone.

Agreed, but... If you really want to get a feel before going up it can save you some big bucks in the long run. Let's say you spend $8 or $9 on a drink (including tip) for (with luck) 15 minutes conversation (read interrogation) time. That is about a buck per minute and can enhance your experience arriba.
If you go straight up without talking and giving them a sort of test it costs up-wards of $2 per minute and you are stuck on average with $60 plus hotel of $12 so you may end up blowing $72 that you could have given another who past the ficha drink test.

I hate to break the news, but many of the girls (many) drink water, even from the cervesa bottle. Check if you want to but realize this: if you worked for 8 to 10 hours in a bar screwing clients, what kind of shape would you be in if you drank as much alcohol as you might think the girls do?
SURE, some get hammered and different clubs have different situations but we're talking about AB. Don't think little miss perfect body is in that kind f shape after drinking for 8 to 10 hours.

You got that right. By any measure it's a lot of money for a drink and yes, they can be a burden on any monger budget. I once saw a guy get really pissed off at AB when he discoverd that the "drinks" he bought for the girl were actually water. He was waiting for a beer when his girl went to the head so he took a sip of hers and then had a shit fit when he tasted water instead of something a bit stiffer. hehe...
The other hotels are expensive because people usualy don't have a choice and will pay it anyway. The customer is not king in the Zona. Far from it. He is a means to an end.
But as the saying goes, if you have to ask too much then you can't afford it. I never had the sense to ask, I just paid. So drink up Shriners. Watch your money and remember te squeeze test.

The beer is, AFAIK, just that. But they're kinda small. However, these chicas work in a bar for a living and have a pretty large tolerance for alcohol. Most of the longer-term ones I know can drink most men under the table.
My last trip my friend hooked up with a real cutie in HK/Miami. But, she put away something like 8 or 9 beers during the evening. She was a bit buzzed, but not falling down.
One night, a couple of years back, my fav, Maite, and I went drinking. We damn near closed the bar in the Nelson. It was all I could do to keep up, but I did! :-) The bummer was, once we went up to the room and got underssed, the lay down, then proceeded to puke all over the floor! Ewww! :-) All in a night's partying, I suppose.
Anyway, as long as the chicas order something with real booze, I don't mind buying a few. But the juice thing is BS.

To all of the Vets. I know that this story has been written a hundred times by a hundred mongers. So I apologize in advance for the obviousness of many of my statements. I have been about 10 times and have learned invaluable things from many of you.
When I stay overnight in the area. I stay at the Travelodge in San Ysidro. Easy 3 minute walk to the border and free parking. I am going back in March and might actually stay over in TJ at the Pueblo Amigo. I love to bet on sports. And that hotel is in a real nice area.
When I drive down from somewhere else on the 5. I park at the lot behind the duty free shop for 8-10 bucks. Depends on the day. Very easy walk across the border. When you walk across the border into Mexico. You will get no hassle at all. No ID needed. You wil go thru 2 rotating metal gates. You can go straight to the sea of cabbies or go to the right to all of the shops and pharmacias.
All of the "uplifting" drugs can be found at the pharmacias. I used some Levitra for the first time the last time I went. And really enjoyed it. Paid about 8-9 a pill I think. All legal to be sold over the counter.
I like to bet on sports. And there is a shack. Literaly a shack. That is part of the Caliente sports betting operation right past all of the cabbies on the right hand side. I will go get my bets in and then take a cab to the Zona.
For the cabbie. $5+1 tips. "Adelita's por favor" is all you need to say. Most speak passable English. When solo with a cabbie in Mexico. It is considered respectful to sit in the front with him. That is one difference from the states.
The cab ride might scare the crap out of you as street marking and signs are apparently only a suggestion and not a rule. I have never seen or been in an accident down there. So close your eyes and hold on. You will make it. It is a 5 minute thrill ride.
Once at Adelitas. Depending on the time of day. You will see mas chicas. All shapes and sizes. Plenty of 9's and 10's with the enhancements. They usually mill together to the right of the dance floor and the bar. I like the 5's and 6's since they are usually more "real" and will try harder to compete with the others. Regardless of the girl. My going rate is $60+$12 room+$1 tip for the cleanup boy.
I like to mill around for about 30 minutes or so before jumping in. I will have a couple of Tecates and enjoy the scenery. I will walk outside every now and then for some fresh air and the get away from the very loud music. I will sit with a girl every now and then and buy her a drink if she is very friendly. Kinda like a test drive I guess. That has been pretty successful for me in the past.

Eventually I paid some guy $10 to hop in a van and drive right up to the border with about 15 other people. This saved me about 1 hour and pnemonia. It can be chaos there at the border crossing on a weekend night.
As long as you do not do anything stupid such as. Get drunk, have drugs, have a weapon. Taunt the thugs. Flash your cash. You will be safe. If you are an idiot. You will end up bribing the TJ cops like my friend did to get out of trouble.

I was over at AB last night and while it wasn't busy per se, it was ok. Things should get back to normal by the time of your trip. Jan 6th is a big holiday, El Dia de los Tres Reyes (Day of the 3 Kings). It's a big day for family and gift giving, so a lot of the girls are back home with their families but will be getting back soon. You figure, they've spent a lot of money on gifts, traveling, and haven't been making any money. So they'll get back to TJ pronto to make up for the loss of cash.
You might even get lucky and face a buyer's market then.
Good advice. Some one could slip something into an open drink. And you certainty want to tip and be polite because you can't whoop everyones' ass in the whole bar. I've also had a drink disappear once, but at CC. You have to remember that you're in a shady environment to begin with; it's a shady business. Some of the waiters pull this kind of stupid shit from time to time; you don't necessarily have to [CodeWord140] (http://isgprohibitedwords.info?CodeWord=CodeWord140) them off for it to happen. The idea is: to sell as many "cervezas" as possible. An unattended beer bottle is a "finished beer" as far as their concerned.If you put your napkin over the top of your drink, I've never had a problem at AB or CC with the drink being there when I got back. But definitely when the clubs are busy, the masero's are looking for any excuse to clear off the table and seat another customer (and make more tips). At CC I usually get Coco (heavy set) as my masera and she's always been real good about keeping my table as long as I tell her or giving me exact change. I've changed $100 dollar bills with her on drinks and have never had a hiccup.
I know times are tough these days but the other day at AB I saw something the waiter did that was just plain unsanitary. A guy sitting at a booth next to me told the masero he was heading up with his girl and wanted him to watch his drink and jacket (and booth I guess) and tips him. So the masero puts the napkin on the drink, no big deal. About 10-15 minutes later, I guess the masero was bored and he sits in that guys booth, then starts eating the peanuts or something he's got on the table and drinking his beer. Peanuts are one thing, but drinking the guys' beer?????
So yeah, you guys are right about the open drink, I was always concerned about losing my drink or booth, didn't think the maseros would do anything to your beer!

You got that right. By any measure it's a lot of money for a drink and yes, they can be a burden on any monger budget. I once saw a guy get really pissed off at AB when he discoverd that the "drinks" he bought for the girl were actually water. He was waiting for a beer when his girl went to the head so he took a sip of hers and then had a shit fit when he tasted water instead of something a bit stiffer. hehe...
The other hotels are expensive because people usualy don't have a choice and will pay it anyway. The customer is not king in the Zona. Far from it. He is a means to an end.

It's fine now and should be ok by W/E 01/13. You should have the place almost to yourself during the week so be on your toes. I took a walk through today and things are spooling up.
The only problem this weekend is that it's going to be VERY dirty in TJ because of the rain.
While I have fond memories of rain water running down the walls while I'm doing the glam slam, understand that the streets turn into rivers. Pack accordingly. It will also be cold so the girls want to get off the street and into your warm arms. This means extended sessions for less money if you are cool and kick your game.
Pack extra socks (warm ones) and bring footwear suitable for a very wet weekend. You'll thank me for this.
Another "hot tip:" Bring an electric heater if you are staying at any hotel. Crank that sucker up and heat your room. The girls LOVE that, and might go for a bargain price just to get warm. Don't let the hotel see you bring it in however, they won't allow it because it sucks energy.

But when I've asked, the girls have said they even want the fruit juice drinks watered down because they don't want to get fat. I can't blame them for that, cause I wouldn't want them fat either! ;)
So it's not just the beer, it's juice and everything else. Tomato juice doesn't seem to get watered down though, I guess the girls consider it healthy.

Crime-Wary Americans Shun Popular Strip of Mexican Beaches Just South of San Diego
PLAYAS DE ROSARITO, Mexico (AP) -- Assaults on American tourists have brought hard times to hotels and restaurants that dot Mexican beaches just south of the border from San Diego.
Surfers and kayakers are frightened to hit the waters of the northern stretch of Mexico's Baja California peninsula, long popular as a weekend destination for U.S. tourists. Weddings have been canceled. Lobster joints a few steps from the Pacific were almost empty on the usually busy New Year's weekend.
Americans have long tolerated shakedowns by police who boost salaries by pulling over motorists for alleged traffic violations, and tourists know parts of Baja are a hotbed of drug-related violence. But a handful of attacks since summer by masked, armed bandits -- some of whom used flashing lights to appear like police -- marks a new extreme that has spooked even longtime visitors.
Lori Hoffman, a San Diego-area emergency room nurse, said she was sexually assaulted Oct. 23 by two masked men in front of her boyfriend, San Diego Surfing Academy owner Pat Weber, who was forced to kneel at gunpoint for 45 minutes. They were at a campground with about 30 tents, some 200 miles south of the border.
The men shot out windows of the couple's trailer and forced their way inside, ransacked the cupboards and left with about $7,000 worth of gear, including computers, video equipment and a guitar.
Weber, who has taught dozens of students in Mexico over the last 10 years, plans to surf in Costa Rica or New Zealand. "No more Mexico," said Hoffman, who reported the attack to Mexican police. No arrests have been made.
The Baja California peninsula is known worldwide for clean and sparsely populated beaches, lobster and margaritas and blue waters visited by whales and dolphins. Surfers love the waves; fishermen catch tuna, yellowtail and marlin. Food and hotels are cheap.
News of harrowing assaults on American tourists has begun to overshadow that appeal in the northern part of the peninsula, home to drug gangs and the seedy border city of Tijuana. The comparatively isolated southern tip, with its tony Los Cabos resort, remains safer and is still popular with Hollywood celebrities, anglers and other foreign tourists.
Local media and surfing Web sites that trumpeted Baja in the past have reported several frightening crimes that U.S. and Mexican officials consider credible. Longtime visitors are particularly wary of a toll road near the border that runs through Playas de Rosarito -- Rosarito Beach.
In late November, as they returned from the Baja 1000 off-road race, a San Diego-area family was pulled over on the toll road by a car with flashing lights. Heavily armed men held the family hostage for two hours. They eventually released them but stole the family's truck.
Before dawn on Aug. 31, three surfers were carjacked on the same stretch of highway. Gunmen pulled them over in a car with flashing lights, forced them out of their vehicles and ordered one to kneel. They took the trucks and left the surfers.
Aqua Adventures of San Diego scrapped its annual three-day kayak trip to scout for whales in January, ending a run of about 10 years. Customers had already been complaining about longer waits to return to the U.S.; crime gave them another reason to stay away.
"People are just saying, 'No way.' They don't want to deal with the risk," said owner Jen Kleck, who has sponsored trips to Baja about five times a year but hasn't been since July.
Charles Smith, spokesman for the U.S. consulate in Tijuana, said the U.S. government has not found a widespread increase in attacks against Americans, but he acknowledged many crimes go unreported. The State Department has long warned motorists on Mexico's border to watch for people following them, though no new warnings have been issued.
Mexican officials acknowledge crime has threatened a lifeblood of Baja's economy. In Playas de Rosarito, a city of 130,000, police were forced to surrender their weapons last month for testing to determine links to any crimes. Heavily armed men have patrolled City Hall since a failed assassination attempt on the new police chief left one officer dead. On Thursday the bullet-riddled bodies of a Tijuana police official and another man were found dumped near the beach.
"We cannot minimize what's happening to public safety," said Oscar Escobedo Carignan, Baja's new secretary of tourism. "We're going to impose order ... We're indignant about what's happening."
Tourist visits to Baja totaled about 18 million in 2007, down from 21 million the previous year, Escobedo said. Hotel occupancy dropped about 5 percentage points to 53 percent.
Hugo Torres, owner of the storied Rosarito Beach Hotel and the city's new mayor, estimates the number of visitors to Rosarito Beach since summer is down 30 percent.
In the city's Puerto Nuevo tourist enclave, which offers $20 lobster dinners and $1 margaritas, restaurant managers said sales were down as much as 80 percent from last year. One Saturday afternoon in October, masked bandits wielding pistols walked the streets and kidnapped two men -- an American and a Spanish citizen -- who were later released unharmed. Two people who were with them were shot and wounded.
Omar Armendariz, who manages a Puerto Nuevo lobster restaurant, is counting on the new state and city governments to make tourists feel safer. He has never seen fewer visitors in his nine years on the job.
"It's dead," he said.

You must remember this: targeted tourists are in Mexico with some high dollar value items. A new 1/2 ton truck in Guadalajara is about twice as much as in TJ so stealing one and getting it to GDL can be profitable, very profitable.
The gangs need to finance their operations somehow and I thik that is where the trouble comes from. The drug gangs are not into fencing stolen property, they are into selling drugs. Some might need vehicles for the commission of crimes to avoid being traced. No connection has been made between the stolen vehicles and recent rash of shootings in Rosarito, so my guess is that the stoen trucks were fenced.
Taking a lot of bling into Mexico is never a good idea. Now that the pressure is on the drug gangs they've had some money problems to be sure. The easiest targets are the tourists.
Guys visiting the Zona need to keep the bling out of the trip. Stay low profile.
Yes, the toll road to Ensenada is dangerous, and the reports are true. The toll road is sparsely patroled and the bad guys have lots of opportunity so the safest bet is the same today as it has always been: never travel these roads at night. This is especially true now. I used to make the run to Mexicali across the 2 toll road through Tecate all the time, even at night. I don't do it at night any more.
Things are changing in Mexico but understand that the government has been cutting the legs out from under the drug gangs for the past year and the impact has been dramatic. The result has been an upsurge in crimes against those with stuff; nice big shiny stuff.

Great trip report, glad you had a good time. No, those slugs probably have to work tomorrow. You got great service at AB and you didn't really overpay at $60, that what those girls are getting. It will be well staffed during the week until the end of January at least, the girls need to make up for some of that money they blew over the holidays.
Hope your Wednesday was as good. The cops have toned it down a bit, there are about 1000 Federal police in town from Mexico City to beef up TJPD in light of the recent ratero festivities, so the guys who would normally rob you at the border are taking a break. (thank goodness eh?)

Headed back over the border Wed night with all intentions of chalking up another Mexican trifecta. AB was pretty steady to hopping till about 1am, then it really died off. Not at all. It's all over the national news, TV & press that the cartels are killing cops left and right in TJ and Rosarito Beach. Nice thought they would send federalies to protect gringos from choke hold muggers, LOL, LOL, LOL....

I met a girl at a club in Neuvo Laredo's Boystown last night who as part of the "what is your name, where are you from, etc" part of getting to know each other said she had just come back to her home town of Nuevo Laredo from Tijuana. She had worked at Adelita and Tropical while in TJ. She said she was worried about the violence there which struck me as odd since Nuevo Laredo has long been thought of as being the border violence capital of Mexico. This is also odd since the last time I was in TJ, I ran into three girls I knew from the clubs in Nuevo Laredo.
Last night at the bridge in Nuevo Laredo, there were Mexican Army troops there with big guns and mean stares. Apparently, the current strategy from the Calderon administration is to go on the offensive against the Zetas in Texas and at the same time quell the violence against the policia in TJ/Rosarito. It is a difficult situation for the government since if it hits one side too hard, it isn't a victory since the other gang will fill the vacuum. The multibillion dollar demand from drug consumers in the US provides too much profit motive for the well-armed and well-financed narcotraficantes to ignore.

My take is that finally someone with some sense is running the government in mexico and after all the dries of corruption etc have dies down, these people realize that something has to be done or Mexico as we know it will cease to exist. There is no money in that.
I like Calderon. He's a smart guy and he loves his country. You and I know that if someone wanted to hit him it could be set up, but his people are doing the right thing and that should tell you who is running the show. The problem is that it's difficult getting the message to the bad guys. OK.
So the Military are put in the line of fire and yes, they have a mean look in their eye. They'd better.

As for Luxor, I stopped by again after seeing it being talked about. It's clearly more expensive but it has it's own charms. Something like $40 bikini massage and $55 naked for 45min or 60min. Pricing is basically like Purple Rain, Mermaids, etc with the girl. Since you can walk from Luxor to the border pretty easy, I used to get a taxi from the Zona to Luxor if I still wanted to look around for another chica. Makes for a nice last chance before going across.

You may want to reread my previous posts. All of the non-club massage places charge you a house fee to go to a room with the girl, and THEN the girl charges you her own fee for service requested. You can negotiate with the girl, but you have lost some leverage since you've already paid the house. This is a more expensive route, averaging (in my experience) a little more than a 1hr session with an AB girl. It's purely a chance of pace, and not a financially better deal.

60 has been the standard rate for a long time. Last Friday I took Angelica up for 50 and another one agreed to go for 50 I believe but cannot recall the name. Some of the CC chicas are happy to go for 50 after quoting 60. I took one lower tier up recently for 40 including extras.
You can definitely avoid the $5 taxi ride but I would not advise it. If you really are hard up on money I guess but for me $10 in savings is no big deal and the chances of getting mugged are not worth it or even close. Yes you can, i do it all the time. First off don't sit in the row tables next to the dance floor. Any guy sitting there will be solicited to slip in a dollar bill and not doing so obviously makes him look bad. Secondly don't make eye contact with the dancing girl especially when she's nearby looking for guys to cop a feel so she can get money. At those times I usually make myself look busy by looking at anything but the dancer. I've never once been approached. This is all about experience and knowing how to handle the situation.

I guess I should have re-worded myself. When I said that I meant it as just walk into the bar, go up to the girl you want, negotiate quickly and leave for upstairs. This way you'll avoid having to buy a drink. But I guess this is only good if you're only looking for a good time then leave. But if you're like me I care to sit and enjoy the ambience. Customs and Immigrations being that they can be really hard asses a lot of times when coming back across the border from Tijuana, I wouldn't want to try to get back across the border with out the proper amount of ID now required. I would just do the right thing and carry the correct ID required as I don't want to be noticed otherwise or hassled by them and maybe delay my return across the border.

Lots of Taxi's $5. 00 to Adelitas, from there you can walk through out the entire Zona, everything is with in a few blocks. I have also walked to Purple Rain from there each time it is only a 5 minute walk down the street, although I haven't tried any girls there. There are lots of taxis around to get back to the Border for the same price. I have gone down in the afternoon and made it back to the border early evening around 6 or 7 each time. The line up at the Border has been about an 1hr wait each time, but there is usually some one around in the line to have a conversation with. I have only brought cash and my passport accross. The wait at the border caught me off guard the first time last fall, especially since I was trying to fit the entire trip from San Diego into a small window of time. You can make it from San Diego to he doors of Adelitas in less that an hour but allow 2. 2 1/2 hours to get back.

Been thinkin of hittin up TJ this weekend. Hows the trophy selection this days? I went on january but the selection suck. There where a few nice girls but not that many. Has the place gettin better ever since January?

Just wondering, how often do you guys go to AB. I live in San Diego and it takes me 15 minutes to get to AB once i leave my place. I starting hitting this place hard the last month but now I feel shy for going so much. I feel like the girls have gotten down on the quality or maybe I just got spoil since I always chose the hottest girl that I could find and since they ask where i live and i tell them 15min from AB they always treat me nice and take their time since they know I will come back. Anyways I like to go but seems like it aint worth it for me since I just dont see the quality there used to be and the only few hot girls that there are just dont seem to cut it for me since i just dont want to work the girl for that good sex that they intent to give to the ppl that they know. I find it safer to take my car cause the guys on the parking know me already and they keep on eye on the cars. When I used to park on the U.S side I would see cars with their wheels slash out so that made me venture to the other side. Just seems easier and somewhat safer for me, except on fridays and saturdays when the police block all the streets to get to the U.S and check your alcohol lv. I swear they must have a button that they press to make that little toy go off on you.

Its funny.As in "real life", an ok looking chica can be beautiful if her actions and personality are great. I tend to no take those hotties, but that damn Claudia is the hottest one I've seen there. JPF, please hold me back!
I also wonder how some of these chicas make it, at least during the week when we go. There are a bunch that I NEVER see go and they aren't aggressive at all. I know that if a chica is fairly decent and came up and started flirting and grabbing my unit, I'd be toast.

I'm sure your problem is that you go too much. I go about once every two months. And everytime I go it's an exciting experience because I feel the need to go after a long absence. In other words, I don't I go so much that I end up geting tired of it. If I went once a week, I'm sure it would. Plus the big hole in my pocket that it would leave. Ouch.
I suggest you limit yourself. It's been three months since I've last been. And trust me, I'm looking forward to my next trip.

When you've been around the block as often as some of the crew on here, you'll realize that the reason a man pays a ***** is TO LEAVE.The downside is more about the girls givin me a vip treatment and they ask me to take them out. They dont accept tips from me they always tell me to keep it so i can come back, and from time to time they dont charge me. But one time I decided to go w/ a new girl and my regular got mad and refuse to get a room w/ me, been like 6months now since I had gone up w/ her. Just feels like I'm goin there for a good time but I have to be on my guard to not get a girl mad. They do get jeoulus and latinas dont let it sly so easily.
Not sure if this one girl gets made when she sees me with other girls but she tends to make this odd face where she squints her eyes at me and gives me this look. Adelitas yesterday wasn't doing much, loads of girls, probably 2 to one vs guys. I was at the bar having my 1st beer when an unattractive hag came up being very aggressive, said "1 hour, $50" I said no, she started pleading, said her kid hadn't any food, one hour $30 etc. Again I politely refused but she persisted, asking me to buy her a beer. All the while she was grabbing my crotch. I drank up and walked out. I anticipate being panhandled (get it?) on the street but at the bar in Adelitas? I went over to HK where the soap show was going on and ended up with a regular there.
