I spoke to and texted (whatsapp) several people in Pto Pta today, which per se was a surprise as I thought the Internet would be down along with power failure but it was not, at least for these people. They stated that yes they had rain and more frightening than that, some very strong wind but so far so good. I spoke with them early in the morning as well as about 3 PM.
The people in Santiago are also connected even though schools and colleges etc are closed. Finally, way down, in Santo Domingo as well as in Bani, things were normal. Long live the Dominican Republic!

Collective FYI: Thankfully, latest projections have Irma moving more northward, with the eye passing north of the island. North shore should still get heavy rains, flooding, high winds. The other side of the island will likely be shielded from the storm by the central mountain range. Good luck to the Dominicans, especially those living in rough shacks.Glad the National Hurricane Center forecast for Irma panned out as expected. I spent about eight hours yesterday looking at pictures from Sint Maarten, Saint Martin, and Anguilla showing Irma's destruction. Many of the restaurants, bars, and hotels I visited on those two islands are now either moderately to heavily damaged or completely destroyed. I'm betting the casas in Philipsburg didn't fare much better.

Looks like the strongest wind from Irma (from the west at 31 mph) occurred around noon on Thursday. Quite a bit of rain all day, too, but it looks conditions are improving. Hope everyone in Puerto Plata, Sosua, and the on the north coast made it through with no problems.
I check the Sosua sub-forum every few weeks to see if anything has changed here and EVERY TIME there is some stupid flame war going on, LOL!!
I checked this time to see how people are preparing for Irma and *BOOM* flame war.
Anyway, I'll check back in another few weeks to see what why'all are arguing about then but until then please be safe if you are in the path of this massive storm.That's why I post here anymore. So, you are right on.

I suppose this amounts to what Quagmire calls "kissing Puerto Plata goodbye for the foreseeable future".
As far as Sosua is concerned, I do not believe the wind got anywhere near 100 MPH along the coastline. Strong yes. Perhaps from what was reported by Cala Weather was more accurate, like 45 to 60+ MPH. That northernly west direction of Irma helped a lot. Whatever force the outter band gave us, was still strong enough to cause significant problems for the entire coast. Where I live in El Batey, the electricity was cut off intentionally in the area. But I had my backup batteries and inverter working. The landlord ran the power plant twice during the storm so our refrigerators got power. I had cable and internet throughout the day and night. We always had water and water pressure.
Electricity in certain areas was restored about 8 pm last night. Had two friends walk to my apartment and The Anhvee Hotel from Condos Margarita Hotel. They said they saw a lot of tree limbs and leaves all over the place, and a few trees down. But no major damage to structures, or flooding.
I went out this morning to check the area and Sosua Beach. I did not see any flooding, especially on the streets in Sosua that usually flood. I saw few business signs down, but nothing that was major. When I hit the beach, I expected to see major devastation, but all I saw were a few downed trees, but mostly tree debri. Many of the business shacks were spared. With only the few I saw that had trees that fell and damaged roofs.
A lot of beach cleanup was going on. In fact a good opportunity for some individuals to find work, if they wanted it. I was advised that the electricity was still off on the beach. There were some local officials on the beach assessing the damage and presumably working towards helping with restoring things back to normal.
Left the beach and continued my tour around Sosua, only to find some trees down and limbs. In most cases the downed trees and limbs that I saw, caused no major damage to property that would be a hardship. And as I mentioned before, no flooding in the areas prone to it. IMO, there was more flooding and devastation last year Oct and Nov than what Irma did to the DRs north coast yesterday. The eye being further away than the other places that Irma hit, made the difference.
Bourbon Street restaurant is still closed. Many businesses around town were open. It's Friday, so it will be interesting to see what happens at night. Not many places for chicas to post up at, unless they are willing to enter and pay to eat or drink. The beach will be a bust if power is not restored soon. The best place likely to resume business are the restaurants in the numbered 60's. Like Mofongo King, Aris Restaurante, Jorge Mayra, Joselitos, Marias.
The beach area and outside dining area by those particular restaurants was free and clear of debri as of 900 am Friday. So by noon or later this afternoon, these restaurants may be up and running. Most other areas on the beach the walk paths were blocked by downed trees and piles of tree debri made by men doing cleanup. Reopening I suppose will depend on whether or not the beach has electricity restored. It's even possible restaurants on the beach may be forced to stay closed until the officials give their ok?
All in all it was my 1st Tropical Storm / Hurricane here. I still believe the south coast of the Dr and Haiti are more likely to experience a Hurricane than the north coast. Now that it is over I'm gald I had a chance to experience what I did, and see how it affected my area.

Thats because my balcony faces east and the winds were blowing north to south. So I got a nice breeze while the storm was by passing my balcony. On the other hand, my bedroom window is facing sort of west. And the rainy wind was shooting water on that side of my building. As a result, some rain water was seeping in by bedroom window. I had to pause my movie a few times to mop up. Later I used the wet mop to finish cleaning my bedroom floor. I've seen a lot of rain. But I never had to do that before Irma. BTW both of my air conditioning units mounted high on the walls outside never got damaged or pulled from their place.

I didn't find any silicone improvements on the girls I met; I like natural titts. But maybe I just had bad luck in the choices I made. When the bra came off, gravity revealed its devastating effect: many of the young women had saggy titts. And it is true, quality improves on weekends.

FLIGHT.
Cancelled or delayed because of Hurricane Irma. Buddy decided to wait and go down later, but I wanted to check out the Sosua area for a permanent apartment.
Our pre-arranged "guests" were arriving at the hotel anyway so somebody should be there. They came a long way.
So, spent a whole day at the airport with the latest delayed flight posted every two hours, but promising that we would go. Finally at 10.30 pm they found a plane and started looking for a fresh crew. Turns out they had diverted all planes to rescue IRMA threatened passengers who wanted to get outa there, and here I was fighting to get down there! .
They kept PP airport open for us and I finally got to Casa Marina at 3. 30 am. Slept like a baby!
HOTELS
Half the hotel CM, is closed for reno and the other half is in dire need of a makeover! The buffet table was cut down by a half, but still had the basics. Not recommended! Some beachfront damage from IRMA didn't help either.
My party was a Casa Marina, but I checked out Casa Cayene / Hotel Alicia. Their main reception and pool area are completely bare and that place too is under serious reno. Nothing and nobody to indicate they are in business. Wandered around until a lady saw me and I asked her if it was open or closed. She said they had a few rooms ready for occupancy, $70, including breakfast, but like the CM, I wouldn't recommend anybody going there yet!
We were booked into a condo for the second week, which was amazing, and not too expensive (out of season), considering the amenities.
RESTAURANTS.
Rumba and D'latin are still closed, with a little activity going on inside D'Latin but nothing happening at Rumba. Classico and Meringue Bar open as usual.
City Lights is now Sosua Lights, if anybody cares!
Good pizza is available at Bailey's, Romano and NY Pizza in order of quality and price! Always look forward to Bailey's (which is now Captain Bailee Restaurant and Hotel, if anybody cares).
I ate a lot of food from the local open kitchen barbecue joints this time, and man was it good! The locals eat well down there! I love simple Dominican food, no problem!
Count on Jolly Roger for a great American/English style cheap breakfast (best value).
HURRICANE MARIA.
Wouldn't you know, after the IRMA problems, the airline calls and tells us we are leaving because Maria is on its way!
Buddy takes off, and goes home on Tuesday, but again, I decided to stick it out, after all, if I'm going to live in the area, this won't be the last.
So we get Maria, which shuts down the town for two days.
Wednesday night was under curfew, with the sale of alcohol banned. The national policia came to every restaurant and told them to finish up and leave. I was in Sinatra's, with my beer under the table. (Great food too, by the way!)
Steve, the owner, was balking about closing, and arguing with them. He was the last one open. I stayed longer than I should because as soon as I left, the wind and rain showed up like I have never seen it before. By then everything was boarded up.
So it took me an hour to walk the half mile back to the condo, and I saw first hand how mean those chicas can be! I'm in reasonable shape for my age, but one point I couldn't breath!. But with a little help from a security guy, behing a gate, he got me off the empty street!. The pesos dried out though, and no problem with the watch and phone. Couldn't get out at all on Thursday. Power was intermittent, but I had a gas stove, water for coffee and an internet connection most of the time, so I rested up.
They had the town cleaned up again by Friday AM, but our condo lost it's beautiful beach, which I had photographed, overnight!
CHICAS.
Since I was there on a mission to find a suitable apartment, I concentrated more on (courting and wooing, as Charles calls it!) non pros I was aquainted with.
I walked the beach early most days, so not a lot of pro action, but that was not what I was looking for. I always found a young server or two, who would sit down at the table with me, drink my beer and flash those beautiful smiles.
Likewise I was home and cooled out most nights by 9 pm.
There seemed to be a few less chicas on the stroll, but still plenty available, but you had to be quick (or stay out late, I presume) to catch a 10, of which there are always a few, which keeps the whole thing from getting too boring!
I concentrated on chicas who knew me casually, because what I was really looking for was a beautiful chica that would come in every day, clean, cook, and fuck me, for a few peso and then leave!

I'm headed in tomorrow night, first time there and looking forward to it.
I wrote my brief and maybe boring report the day before I was leaving, and figured my trip was over, but it turns out there was more to come. A lot more!
The last night I was out for a meal, solo as usual. The waiter had previously asked me why I was always eating alone, when there were so many chicas wandering around outside. I jokingly told him that I wouldn't touch most of them with a ten foot pole, much less share a table with them. I said I'm very picky these days, and I'm holding out for Miss Dominican Republic. We laughed.
A little later I see him with a pretty chica and he's pointing a me. She comes over, very nice, but it's hellishly hot, I've been out all day, worked up a sweat and just want to get back to my A/C and sleep, so I say gracia pero no gracia!
So on my last night I'm sitting alone again, and as the evening wears on my guy comes over with 2 chica's and sits them down at my table. One is a regular 7-8, but the other, get this, is a 10, actually for me she is an 11! In 9 years of travel to DR I have never been this close to such a beautiful girl. He introduces her as Miss Dominican Republic, and says she is a model. I had just been worked over well by her friend, and was seriously hung over, and all I could think of was getting my shit together, getting packed and getting these chicks out of there with some dinero for their trouble. No problem, they made coffee, tidied bottles and stuff from the night before, and jumped in the shower. They left with me wondering how a chica like her was so available? No sign of drugs, healthy, pleasant personality, she could have done anything she wanted. I don't expect she'll be around when I'm down there in December, life is not like that!
But my story is still not over, I get to PP airport and check in ok, but don't see any other passengers, so I'm think, more delays. No, they say the flight is on time.
So I go up to the lounge and eat breakfast. When I finish I walk past the gates and see nobody waiting, so I realize I have screwed up somehow, maybe missed the flight, but now I need to take a crap from last night. I'm in the stall, and some guy is banging on the door, "Senor!
I finish up and he grabs my arm and steers me to a check in counter, "We are all waiting for you!" I'm still a little hung over but figure I'm the last one on the plane.
I get to the plane and it's empty, like a bad movie? "Welcome" all 4 smiling attendants say! So now I'm dreaming and this is not happening, and last night with Miss U and her friend didn't happen, either!
Turns out there was only one other passenger beside me going out on that Sunwing flight. A 737, because nobody had come down the week before, when Maria hit.
It was a crazy last day and didn't seem real, but I had the pictures (of Miss U, and the empty plane) to prove it!
I was there 2 weeks, traveled around a bit, and found every local I had an interaction with was friendly and helpful, no rip offs, (unless that 700 peso box of Cohiba I bought are fake, but that's not a rip off, because I assume they are, so I may be pleasantly surprised, yet again! )
Which I why I am going down for the winter, then maybe retire permanently somewhere close.

Low season, plus the hurricanes are KILLING THEM! Flights got cancelled (mine did too) plans got rearranged, and messed up the flow of money into the place. They are all feeling it.

Still recovering from my great trip last week. Can't wait to go back!
I know I've let out some details, and I have a few pics of some of the girls I will try to add later.
Day 1- Wednesday.
I arrived to Casa Valeria super early (5 am), some slight issues with my reservation but they made sure I had a room. I slept for a few hours and hit the streets early around 9/10 am. I would also like to share a summary of my last trip to the Sue.
Everything was everything in the Sue. The police were not antagonizing the Chicas. Everybody was happy things had relax. A lot of new girls on the scene. Problem in Sosua is you need to wait till midnite to get into discos. Most girls come there after 12. By the time you connect it maybe 2 am if not later. So effectively even if the girl agrees to stay all night it will be till 8 am or so. Also she may not allow to squash morning woody. Previously you can get a TLN girl by 9 pm when the other bars were open.

After a leisurely breakfast on the beach in Boca Chica, you can get the bus for a nominal sum to Santo Domingo and then a local taxi from the bus terminal to the Caribe Tours or Metro terminal. I think Caribe tours has the more comfortable seats. Caribe Tours stops at Charamicos which is at the far end of Sosua beach, but you can get local taxi or mototaxi from there to your hotel for a nominal sum. People in Boca Chica will tell you where to get the bus and their cousin or brother-in-law will probably offer to drive you all the way to Sosua for about $200 at 90 mph on the back roads.
Metrobus and Caribe Tours both go about the same speed (too fast for safety), but if you can get a Caribe bus that is the express that uses the Santiago bypass to go directly to Puerto Plata without making the agonizingly slow crossing of Santiago and its two bus stations, then you could save a bit of time on the journey. You can look up the schedule on their Web site. Just tell the taxi to take you to Caribe Tours, they will not know the actual address as they will be illiterate, but they will know where it is, so don't confuse them. And he will probably offer to drive you all the way to Sosua for about $200 at 90 mph on the back roads.
You probably cannot get prepaid SIM cards in the Santo Domingo airport, especially not late at night, but you will probably find a Claro or Orange shop in Boca Chica, or you can ask a motoconcho to take you to one, and their cousin or brother-in-law will probably offer to drive you all the way to Sosua for about $200 at 90 mph on the back roads.

Depending on the hour you arrive I would preferr to go to SD and not Boca Chica. The bus stations are in the heart of SD. Get a hotel on El Conde and chill. There are SWs if you are in the mood. I ususally meet one of my Cupid girls. We go to the movies, malls and casinos in SD. It is a great way to start my trips. The sex with girls set up is always excellent.

Made it to the last week in September with the last 2 hurricanes gone by. It's still low season. They are beginning to cement the street on the Burbon street restaurant side. Rumba was my favorite bar in all my visits to Sosua. No more Rumba bar. I do not like City Lights or Classico. The renovated Casa Valeria hotel looks fabulous. Went to check out the chicas on the street. At first, it scared the hell out of me because I'm comparing it to previous visits. This trip also seem like the Haitians have outnumber the Dominicans by a large amount. My pick ups was just walking along and standing outside the side bars or restaurants. I let the action come to me and carefully picked out who I wanted to take back to my hotel. On this trip I did not have one Dominican. All Haitians only. Chica's still want me to take them when they know I have no more leech left.
Still love the sun, shade and good fresh food. Wow! No matter how Sosua changes I manage to have a very good time. It's just amazing! I can only get away once a year. Always new faces and the old timers always remember me. Treat people well because they never forget you. Now I think I need to learn a little bit of French or Creole. It's all good!

I hope he follows through with his intention to learn Creole. (Don't waste time with French unless you will use it elsewhere as well). Creole is not hard (it has a small vocabulary and is written exactly as spoken, and just a few phrases are a great ice-breaker with Haitians.

A cab takes about 1:30 from Sosua to STI with traffic.
Caribe takes about 2 hrs from Sosua to the Santiago bus station.
A cab from the bus station to STI might take another 30 min if my memory serves me.

Thanks.I don't recommend renting a car for short stays, where the main purpose is to party, for obvious reasons, but for a month you'll go stir crazy if you want to explore and have to rely on public transportation.
Between mongering you may have a fair bit of down time. The North Coast is a great place to explore (and meet women) all the way from PP to Semana and Las Terenas.
Likewise Santiago and SD, and of course Boca is worth a look, a Sosua wannabe.
Not much in my opinion to see down Punta Cana way, it's all gated high end family resorts spread out for miles. The best part of going to Punta Cana, is a night in Higuey, on the way there or back.
That's the tourist route. If you like to get lost there are many lesser known and lesser visited towns that don't see a lot of tourists. You might find YOUR paradise!

On my last trip I remember walking the main strip several times a day to have somewhere to go. I did a few tours with some minor exploring into local barrios. You will have the time of your life.
1. Shorts are the preferred dress everywhere.
2. The street girls come in all flavors and just like burger king you can have it your way. If you are paying they will do what ever you want. Shacking up with a customer is a dream cone true for them.
3. bbj are very common but not guaranteed. I usually assume and most go along with the plan but it is not a deal breaker for me.
4. There are scores of slender girls especially the Haitians and they are dark. You are going to over whelmed.
5. The hard core girls are anxious to get back to your room. I do not like pushy dersperate girls. They tend to be problems in the room.
Cash is king and you will be the boss. So act like the boss. Choose the women you want to be with not the ones throwing themselves at you. The slender babes are not in high demand so they will be thrilled by your attention. They will give you a great time. In the clubs watch how the girls interact. If they are with other girls not a good sign. See how she is dressed. Too sleazy not good. I am older and like GFE when posible. I've been to Sosua 4 times so I know what I am getting into, although it has been several years since I was there. On my last trip I remember walking the main strip several times a day to have somewhere to go. I did a few tours with some minor exploring into local barrios. Oakie also makes some good points.$125 is OK for food ($40), p4 p ($60) and the rest for transportation, but organized tours will cost more ($50 half of day, $75 full day and $125 some full days where there is fishing or motorized tour or a speed boat, these are rough estimates) You can organize your February around Sundays. February is a Carnival month. All the schedules are usually posted closer to that date. You can hit Puerto Plata, Santo Domingo (East) including Boca Chica and end the month in Santiago DLC. Add some baseball, cockfighting, Super Bowl on the first Sunday etc and you are set up.

TTM.I'll leave you the good hands of OldKool and Mr GoGo, and the other vets to give you excellent info on most of your queries, as my budget varies widely from zero to probably too much, and because I have never actually stayed at New Garden / Europa / and Alicia the hotel formerly know as Prince, but heard only good things about them!
But having your sandaled feet stepped on by one of the DR's more robust chicas in her stiletto heels in Classico, can be messy, so shoes, please!
I don't recall seeing a mosquito down there in my 9 years but they seem to have a lot of mosquito borne diseases down there, so maybe they think the gringo Canadian has been bitten enough up there!
And, others may disagree, but I never met anybody who didn't appreciate a small gift, especially the ladies, but they will of course require cash for services rendered!

I have never stayed at New Garden but I am a frequent visitor (daily) to their restaurant. The restaurant is kind of attached to the lobby area, quite large and seats 30/40 people, I would hazard. The restaurant itself, and not only the hotel, has its internet connection as well that the diners can use and is very good. I have no doubt that the hotel guests have equal quality access.
The food is the excellent, I mean it is the best Italian restaurant in town and when I say Italian, I do not mean Olive Garden Italian. The Chef and part owner of the restaurant is Gian Luca and so food is high quality. A very good quality or high end meal there is priced at 500-800 pesos with something fancy like churrasco. Of course, if you order wine and similar, it is going to go up, which will impact budget. Indeed the most expensive piece, outside of Hotel and women is your drinking habit. Personally, I may have a beer or a glass of wine. Not every day or a glass of scotch, again not every day so my budget runs a lot lower than your planned 200 but it is always good to have a cushion.
Enjoy Sosua. It is a good place to enjoy female company without worries and especially if you have the right attitude as others mentioned.

I've lived with locals and seen chickens in the houses, I've seen black cockroaches as big a mice, but things that actually bother me in Canada, like house flies or mosquitos and even bees, I just haven't been aware of. I leave my supply of repellent at home.
I've been a target of sand flies in Florida, noseeums in the Bahamas, armies of the small cockroaches in Barbados, visited by rats in New York City!, even iguanas in Key West and Mexico, and of course there are harmless ghekkos everywhere.
If you read the whole post you will see I specifically acknowledge the problem with mosquito borne diseases down there, and I've posted over the years how my local hosts typically have mosquito netting around the baby's bed, even in the smallest shacks. I also specifically speculated that maybe I am unique in this regard, and speculated on why I am not bothered either on the beach, in my room, or out in town in the evenings.
Why not post something useful as an alternate explanation, other than I am delusional? Give us your experience. Just another cheap ad hominem attack adds nothing to our knowledge base! What you call my "rosy view" may simply be what the other other posters below refer to as "the right attitude"? A positive outlook!

People are rightly concerned about local disease carriers, and those of us who may be contemplating settling permanently in the DR need all opinions. For me it's a major plus that local insects are not a nuisance to me, I thrive on the food, and aside from picking up the odd Gripe in the old days from my GF, the only complaint I have about the DR, is the stifling heat!

I def recommend bring deep woods off with you, a couple cans. I get bit every time I go. But the last few years I guess my body has gotten used to it. Every time I get bit, I swell up, but not so much anymore. But every person I've gone down with gets bit a swells up, everyone LOL. My first time in sd I had to go to the er 3 times for the bug bites. Some people get it really bad. I was sitting in a car in the after noon one day in sd and felt my thumb get bit. I saw the bit mark but no bug. I could see my thumb instantly swell up. You most likely will never see what bits you. Through my experience deep woods works best but other people say it doesn't work for them. But def bring bug spray.

We had survey crews cutting line the Canadian Bush and every Canadian knows what that is like. Black fly and mosquitoes so thick that they can chase you indoors. We supplied them with strong repellent, but everyone swore by a cream for ladies called "Skin So Soft! When I first heard of these hardened woodsmen asking for this stuff I thought they were joking, but any Canadian who has been up there knows what I am talking about.

Yes I have been hospitalized in Colombia for such swelling and was in pain for 3 weeks after with oozing and bloody bites on my arms and legs when I dozed off in a car for a few hours in mid day a few hours outside of Medellin Colombia about 6 years ago. I learned my lesson! I will stock up on the Jungle Juice.

Maybe I am immune to mosquito bites, I never swell up when I'm bit up there, but that doesn't explain why I don't ever recall getting bit in the DR. Maybe they just don't like me.
Having grown up in the third world, I definitely have very little worries about mosquitos (actually it is the buzz that is most irksome) but we used to sleep inside mosquito nets. I found a bunch of women writing me from the DR about Chicungunya that they had contracted and also dengue or some other mosquito borne diseases (and they do not use mosquito nets) and so when I travel I just don't take any chance. If I am wearing shorts, I would spray my legs and so forth but inside an air conditioned room, I have never really found a mosquito that I can remember. Regarding other insects, including spiders etc, they do not worry me, and I find it funny when people shriek seeing a cockroach, especially when they fly. Hard to be in the tropics, which by definition is much more fertile, for every species, if you do not have some sort of resistance or philosophical calm about it. Having said that, not sure what I would do in places where scorpions abound. But I rarely go to the deserts. Oh I was bitten by a horse fly once, in NC. I never knew flies bite and so that was a shock and did it hurt!

Staying at the newly renovated Hotel Alicia Beach (most recently Sosua Sunrise).

I too felt some type away when I asked for Chica to come and sit with me when I first started. However niceness aside you don't Owe her shit. If she can convince you that her time cost money without sex no one will get any. However I suggest you be more straightforward with her. Tell her you want to talk to her a little to see where her head's at. Tell her you're interviewing for your next session. Buying her 100 pesos beer only if she makes the first five minute cut. There IS no set rule on this. Some folks are in an awful hurry and others have plenty, even too much time on their hands. Some guys have serious budget limitations and some spend like drunken sailors.
Hopefully you'll get the various mongers advice, (like GrownMan below) and then adopt what fits your own circumstances.

How do I know when to buy them a beer?

I took into account the fact that we'd been chatting for many months and that she was hoping to see me more than once on this trip, and balanced that with my experiences last year vis a vis TLN's with unknown chicas, and decided to have a little faith in her.
The good news is, it worked out. She was waiting for me when I arrived at the airport and I had a fantastic night with her. I asked if she was hungry last night, she said she'd eaten. My experience has been that the women are anxious to meet and be your girlfriend. We all know that it is all about the money but that's ok. Why so many guys are paranoid about a chica asking for cash blows my mind. We have the magic words of yes and no. Our money gives us control over our relationships. What we pay and what we do is our business. Example Pica Flor $150 for TLN a no go for me. For that I can have a GFE all day and night but the Pica Flor crowd will tell you best money the spent. Well, after much preparation, research and help from fellow mongers, I'm here and very excited!
I'm going to try and write a report every day, otherwise it gets a bit hazy as each day blends into the next. Much of what I write will be elementary to experienced mongers and especially regular visitors to the DR but I would like this report to be relevant to newbies, as well as updating the seasoned DR visitors.
I landed in STI last night. I had purchased my $10 visa online before leaving home, which saved me queuing up in the airport. Breezed through immigration and customs, waving away the porters trying to take my bags (I almost got duped last time, because they stand around the restricted customs area, so I assumed they were officials and I had to let them take my bag).
Decent wifi at the airport. I had a local sim card, thanks to a member of this forum who mailed it to me. There was no phone shop as far as I could see, but another member had sent me a link to a site where you can buy credit for pre-paid phones in many countries, so I landed with my sim loaded up and ready to go.
I hadn't taken any pesos home from my last trip, which was a big mistake. I was carrying USD, which are widely accepted, but wanted some local currency. There is a bank in the terminal, which was obviously closed at this hour, but they have a 24 hour ATM. Unfortunately, it was not dispensing cash, probably due to the bank / national holiday. Anyway, I was taking an Uber from the airport to the hotel, so figured I'd find one there. There's a casino at the hotel, which had an ATM, but as it's a casino, they charge 112 pesos per withdrawal. I tried to take out 10,000 pesos but accidentally missed a zero, so paid 112 pesos to take out only 1,000. Oh well. I put the card in again to request the correct amount, but it tells me max withdrawal 4000 pesos. Okay, at least I'll have the cash to pay my chica plus 1000 for beers etc. Turns out the bloody machine wouldn't spit out 4000, or 3,500 or even 3,000, it kept telling me max withdrawal 4000. I don't know if numbers are different in the DR but it finally settled on dispensing 2000 pesos, which I had to do twice. Cost me 336 pesos to withdraw 5000, but at least I had what I needed. I'll make sure to take some with me when I leave, to kick off my next trip.
Uber was simple and cheap. Cost me less than 500 pesos to Hotel Matum. The only complication was finding him. He had what I'm guessing was a taxi plate on the front of his car, but the app gave me his regular plate which was on the back of the car, so although he was a few feet away from me, it's only when my chica called him that we worked out who and where he was. Taxi mafia wanted $20 because there were floods on the road. Surprise surprise, there were no floods and the Uber made it without a hitch.
Anyway, to the important bit. Last trip I met another solo monger at breakfast and we got along well. It was great to have a wingman and someone to have a beer with during downtime. Anyway, we compared notes on the chicas we'd fucked and swapped details of the ones we liked the sound of. He had one of mine already last trip, but I didn't have a chance to have any of his. Quick visit to The Monument this morning. I am actually interested in the history and culture of other countries. I also find it useful because in today's age of social media, everyone expects pictures of your holiday. So, for 100 pesos (costs 70 but they obviously don't have change) I got to walk through 3 floors of the museum, get a great view of Santiago from the top and snap some pics to send out to all the people I've lied to about why I chose to fly all the way from England to the Dominican Republic.
Metro bus to Sosua far more modern than I expected. Not looking out the window to prevent a heart attack. Mostly empty, which is a shame, as I was hoping it would be full and I'd be "forced" to sit next a hot chica. Cost 220 pesos. It stops at the top of Dr Rosen (as opposed to Caribe, which stops a 5 minute drive away) so should be easy to get to my hotel.
I'm going to keep a tally of my adventures and expenses, but not going to include flights and food / drink, because those will be subject to your location and eating / drinking habits.

I did stay at Matum once but didn't take a woman to my room. I've gotten different answers to this question on other boards, but what is the chica policy at Matum? Did you have to pay extra for your girl or did you make the reservation for 2 with her name on it?

There's a casino at the hotel, which had an ATM, but as it's a casino, they charge 112 pesos per withdrawal. I tried to take out 10,000 pesos but accidentally missed a zero, so paid 112 pesos to take out only 1,000. Oh well. I put the card in again to request the correct amount, but it tells me max withdrawal 4000 pesos. Okay, at least I'll have the cash to pay my chica plus 1000 for beers etc. Turns out the bloody machine wouldn't spit out 4000, or 3,500 or even 3,000, it kept telling me max withdrawal 4000. I don't know if numbers are different in the DR but it finally settled on dispensing 2000 pesos, which I had to do twice. Cost me 336 pesos to withdraw 5000, but at least I had what I needed. .Welcome the wonderful world of Dominican ATMs. They can fuck you about in so many ways!

They (Western Union) have pretty good rates.
If anything, ask other mongers that you bump into to point you to the best ATM location to withdraw pesos.

The chica and the chico at the counter would just give you this blank stare when you advised them it wasn't working.
For some reason they wouldn't put an "out of order" sign on the damn thing! Took me a while back home to straighten out my bank.
Seems the ones actually attached to the bank of the same name, are most reliable.
Populaire is good, but weekend nights can see two of the three ATM machines shut down, while the other is running out of pesos. Nothing worse, late at night, than seeing nothing come out while you have two hot chicas waiting!
Best get there early and stash your pesos in a safe place!

Which would be fair enough it they pasted a warning on the machine.
I use the ATM at BHD Leon. Went on a Sunday, used the LH machine. The guy in front drew his cash. I entered my card and all OK except no cash or receipt came out. Then the red malfunction light came on. It was not on before.
Went to the RH machine, drew my cash OK but the receipt showed the first transaction had been charged as well, so I was out 9900 pesos (I always draw a ragged amount to get at least some small bills).
Returned to the bank (where my account is) on Monday and was interrogated by four officials in turn. Finally they rang SD and said my money would be refunded in three days. This process took over an hour. Returned to the bank the following Monday (7 days later). Zilch. Was not refunded until the Friday (10 working days later). Good thing I live here and was not on a short trip. Not one word of apology from anyone, just groans and sighs like I was wasting their time.
Apologies to those who just want succinct headlines, but I'm on the bus to Sosua, so in trying to pass the time, I've decided to regale you with the unabridged version. My future reports will likely be significantly shorter and contain more sex and less logistics.No, we're all big boys here, we can handle all details! Thanks for the report.

Enter the plaza, smile and say no gracias to the massage girls. Keep walking farther back to your right and Masaki GSM will be there.
Also right beside his store is a door (no sign) and that is one of the best places to change money.

But these guys follow a pattern here, and you are just their latest victim.
Go back and check the record. A long time ago, a small group of folks decided that Sosua was "done", "finished", a "shit sandwich", and all the smart money had moved on to the "next level" places like Thai, Colombia, Cuba etc. Some of them even started their own forum, for "next level" pals.
Enter newbies, with Reports of great times in Sosua, and they all came crawling back to tell them they were "delusional", like "abused" wives, who just "didn't know any better" than to put up with "the thuggery" and "theivery" of smelly skanky putas.
They seemed to spend a lot of time in Sosua though, so their own excuse was that they were the only folks who could navigate this terrible swamp with their "monger codes" "intel" , "sources on the street", with secret VIP cards in their wallet to show the cops, racks of dresses and perfume to keep "next level" ladies, and top female lawyers, lined up outside their room at the Europa, demanding a "commitment" to be fucked for free! :)
You and I posting about how Sosua is just one big brothel buffet, and you can fuck a looker for peanuts, compared to home, just doesn't fit their narrative so they'll try to chase you out of the forum, because newbies make them look like idiots, who can't figure how brothels really work!

Arrived in Sosua early afternoon. Had a Dominican chica lined up to see me at 7. Hadn't agreed for how long. Had a good ST session but didn't feel like TLN material, so I gave her a goodbye kiss and 1500 pesos. She of course asked for more, I said no, she went. Been texting me ever since about the next booking, so clearly 1500 works for her.
Went bar hopping at night, streets were teeming with chicas, as were the bars. Didn't expect it to be quite so busy on a Tuesday night. Didn't engage with any chicas as I was pretty wiped and just wanted to recharge. The one girl I did get into conversation with, opened the bidding at 1500, so clearly plenty available at that price and probably less.
Easily found the casino at around 1 am (thanks Roanoker). On my way home at 1:30 there were still plenty of chicas on the streets hunting in packs.

Breakfast at hotel then back to Kikas for another message. Later we go to Cabarete to see some friends. Take a publico car there. They are constantly lined up and leaving from across the main road from the Texico. Some going in the direction of Cabarete and the other ones toward Puerto Plata.
Got a guagua back to Sosua. This was an experience in itself. A lot of Dominicans drive absolutely insanely.
Repeat chica hit me up and I said sure meet me tonight. Walked down toward the strip and a funny looking (in a good way) chica grabbed a hold of me. Most of the time I don't let them get all up on me like that but she seemed innocent enough.
As I'm trying to explain to her that I don't have any time for her I'm keenly aware that this chica is seriously arousing me.
OK that's it! Let's go. I tell her 2 mil and off we go. Great session. Give her an extra 200 pesos for good measure.
Later that night with repeat chica decide to get some food but it's late. Walk up Dr Rosen beside the old Rumba to the main road. Texico on the right and across the highway just a little to the left is an all night cafeteria style restaurant. Dominican food at Dominican prices. Great deal.
Head down to disco at Playa Chiquita Casino. A lot more Chicas than gringos. Definitely a real buyers market. But I was wifed up.
I was standing outside smoking a cigarette when this dime piece chica pulled up on a pasola. I think I was just to busy loving life to be thinking clearly. That would have been my chance to get her whatsapp #.
When I walked back in I realized just how hot she was. She was there for a little while then disappeared.
Another great night with my repeat chica but in the morning all I could think about was the Pasola dime piece from the disco.
1 night left to go, so I parted ways with my new favorite. The grass is always greener on the other side.

Met a chica I'd been speaking to online, who I knew worked there. I had arrange for her to visit my hotel, but once I met her I decided to cancel.
Uber works arounf PP and is less than half the price of local taxis, for clean and modern Hyundai Sonatas.
Back to Sosua and headed out to the bars. First sat in the German bar on Dr Rosen where a Dominican chica started getting cozy. She was super skinny and constantly repeating herself, seemed like a druggie, so told her I need to go meet a friend and headed off. Walked up towards Bar Central, as I turned onto Pedro Clisante I bumped into a stunning Haitian from last trip. She recognised me, gave me a big hug and off we went for a drink. After sitting there for 10 minutes druggie walks in and starts hassling me, I just turned my back on her and continued chatting to my chica, so she starts harassing me for a drink, I said no, I'm busy. Anyway, lesson learned, if they look even a little suspect, don't even give your name, these chicas can latch on. Funny thing about the Haitian I was with is I've been texting a girl I thought was her, but she gave me a different name when I was sitting with her, so I asked for her number and didn't even have it in my phone. I definitely shagged her last year, so not sure who the other chica I've been texting is LOL but I'm going to invite her over tomorrow, so I guess I'll find out then.
She wanted 3000 I easily negotiated down to 1500. Based on last year's experience and my trip so far, I believe there are chicas who will go with you for 1000 but they'll give you a poor service and drive you mad for a propina at the end. I'm happy offering 1500 and confirming no propina, no taxi or moto money, nice relaxing time for 1500 total. I get a good service and the girls seem happy.

From the turnoff to SF where that Texaco is I can make it in another 2 hours and 45 minutes, but I drive fast as shit. The bus will only cost you about 500 pesos. I know from Santo Domingo to Puerto Plata is 400 pesos.

Started off the day at Kika's, what a fantastic massage! Can't believe I hadn't been there yet. I love a good massage and this girl worked damn hard for 700 pesos+tip. Either you or they are mistaken. It has never been anywhere near that within the last decade.Yeah, I know it's weird. On their purchase converter, I plugged in pesos until it equaled $1.00 and that's what it ended up being. Maybe there's some surcharge built into that.

Yes now I get it, after 10 full days in Sosua for this first timer. I want to thank all of your private PM, a big help, you know who you are.
10 days spent at New Garden, must mention how many black brothers in Sosua and staying at New Garden, all really cool guys just having a great time, made many friends both black and whites, thanks all of you are a fun bunch.
Too many girls to recount, some good, some so-so, all in all a fun time. It is what you make of it.
Will I return to Sosua? Maybe is my answer, I do think my next trip needs to be with a few friends, I was solo on this trip and was jealous seeing the brothers really enjoy the friendship amongst themselves.

Finally got around to posting the last day of my trip report. It's been almost a month now so it's not as fresh in my mind as I would like.

I just got back from a quick apartment hunting week, no sport fucking, not much happening.

General observations lots of chicas, but locals complaining about slow business. A buyers market, except for rental apartments over the winter that fetch exhorbitant prices, if you want to be in town with a little security!
Locals friendly and helpful, matter of fact my very well connected local real estate chica could not start her car after stopping at the second bar. She had her chicos running around but nothing was happening.
I called my old motconcho pal (now taxidriver) Alberto, and he cleared the decks and fixed the starter / battery problem, in about 15 minutes. and wouldn't take a propina. I've known him years, he has no english and I have no real spanish, but I'd trust him with my life!
The real estate chica looked at this tourist gringo, a little differently after that! LOL.
Sosua is the only place for me. I came back to cold weather, a completely dysfunctional third world chaotic airport, and traffick gridlock on my ten mile journey from the airport to home. Don't recall a smiling face even from my road rage cab driver!

A couple of hours of pulling the outboard starter cord in the blazing hot sun. He was a big man. He just would give up!
Finally, almost impossibly, we heard the waterlogged motor come to life, and the whole party yelled and cheered and raised our beer to him.
After experiences like these, I get a mite antsy when some a-hole stereotypes and tars Dominicans as thieves, smelly skanks and hustlers.

Arrived in Sosua 3 days ago. Arrived via bus from Santo Domingo (see my post on making that journey in the SD section). Staying at a German run hotel I found on booking.com for 17.50/ night. Place is just fine (villa florie) & just a couple of minutes walk from the action; girl friendly naturally.
Got some beers & food and kicked back for the evening / night watching the constant parade of chicas. The police 'sweep's are a hoot. Sending girls running for the hills. Is this just a facade as they can 'catch' them if they really want.
