Been to Sosua before but didn't spend anytime at the beach.
What is the availabilty of chicas there, any good spots where they congregate in the morning/daytime?
Staying at Sosua Bay Resort Building #5 at the entrance to the beach.
Will be there first week of March.
Any information would be appreciated.Generally availability on the beach isn't great. You can usually cruise the beach and find 3 or 4, but usually not great looking. I guess the chicas sleep during the day waiting for the action to start up on the main drag.

True, but I am not so sure that the stream-of-consciousness-Jack-Kerouac type of reporting is easy to read.
Obviously people who have interesting experiences to share without having equivalent writing skills will find writing less easy, but it should not be too hard to insert paragraph breaks every three or four sentences to make the reading easier on the eye.
Using the past tense instead of the present may also make the narrative flow better.

As the sun rises through the window, I realize that super ginseng Sabor gave me is still working. I start rubbing my pop chics(Maria)ass. This is her code that she still got some fucking to do. She goes to the bathroom and comes back and starts sucking. I'll spare you guys the porn details.

Rio San Juan has this beautiful lagoon, that even though neglected still has a tranquil quality about it. We walk the lagoon and the town of RSJ. I felt like a kid on a field trip even though this is my third trip there. With Maria holding my hand looking good, and my new found sidekick I was completely at peace.
We decide to chow at Cheos. Cheo is a Newyorker now restauranteur. With Sabor and Cheo talking Newyork and Maria playing with her new iphone(wink)I waited for the appetizer(lambita). The labita in itself was a meal, then came the main course. The seafood platter took up the whole table. 5 lobster tails, 3red snapper fillets, 30 grilled shrimps, rice, redbeans, french fries and salad. We could only eat 60% of it. The bill came to 2700pesos, Sabor dropped 2000pesos on the table but I told him he paid to much but he insisted so I added 1000pesos to it and we were out. Now back to Sosua and Drama ahead. Shouts out to Charles Pooter, Jaososua, Manizales911, Coolie high, and everone who helped me keep my New Years resolution of staying positive.

I've stayed at Europa numerous times but it is a dump, and getting worse with every visit. I've never stayed at Seabreeze but it seems to be getting better reviews here.
Sosua Bay Hotel is the best bet.....you can stay in bldg 5 or 6 for 65/night and it is chica friendly.....about a 1000 times better than Europa.

ThanksEuropa is good if you want a living room and bedroom with kitchen.The security is great,they watch it like a hawk.The restaurant in the lobby just opened,Nayra's fine ass works there.And its 50usd.Close to bars,and outdoor food.Kind of outdated.
Seabreeze is just a room,and jihad is very helpful.It's 40 a night and closer to the beach than europa.
Sosua beach resort i'll be staying at in April,so ill report back after then.

I know a couple Santo Domingo girls who were new to Sosua 6 months ago. Sosua played them out quickly and they hauled ass back to the capital last week. This is perfect for me because it establishes pussy stops as I travel.

Helps to have several sd cards for the camera. Some chicas will turn the camera on and delete photos. With having several sd cards, you can swap out a memory card from the camera.

I want one night in my bed alone, and I want to get my drink on, close down all the clubs then stagger to NG solo. Maria's not going to condone this plan. Last year after a good trip she wasnt going to let me forget that I promised her an iphone. I had gone to four roses for a few final beers with my luggage and someone tipped her off. Then she snached my 200 dollar versace sunglasses off my face, broke them in half, and started stomping on them. I had a plane to catch, plus everyone was pointing and laughing at me. As I turn and walk away the girl jumps on my back like a monkey. It took three dominican baggage guys to get her off me. Every time I fly out those same dude look at me and laugh.
This is the same girl I have to ditch now. First I have to clear away all dangerous weapons. I take two empty presidente's and put the bottles in the bathroom trash. The ashtray and anything else also go there. Loose change, laptop, camera, ipod and cell phone go in the safe. She is not aware of what I'm doing as she plays with her i9. She says she loves me, I say call me when you get home. As I drive back to NG solo I realize I'm free.

Nay, Santo Domingo will always be my home base. Years ago I started out in Sosua and got tired of that scene real quick. Santo Domingo has so much more to offer other than just chasing chicas.
Last trip I spent a couple of nights in Puerto Plata doing the "family" stuff, Teleferico, shopping at La Sirena, day trip to Cabarete, etc. This coming trip I want to go back solo and check out Las Terrenas and Puerto Plata city. Just me, but Sosua does not interest me anymore.

Europa is further away, about 3-4 blocks from classicos. If you stay at europa you will be closer to passions massage. Seabreeze is about a block from Baileys restaurant. Seabreeze will be closer to Sosua beach than hotel europa.
Or try the Sosua Bay resort (sosua bay hotel) which is on playa sosua (sosua beach) and about 2 1/2 blocks to classicos. About one block from sosua bay hotel are several restaurants, PJ's and another one.

Does anybody know if theres an ATM Machine at POP Airport which takes USA Atm and Debit cards which will change over our money to DOP or in Sosua.

As we drive from RSJ to Sosua I realize it's a few things I want to do that I haven't done yet. I want one night in my bed alone, and I want to get my drink on, close down all the clubs then stagger to NG solo. Maria's not going to condone this plan. Does anybody know if theres an ATM Machine at POP Airport which takes USA Atm and Debit cards which will change over our money to DOP or in Sosua.At the airport in Puerto Plata I don't recall ATM machines. You can pay the taxi with US dollars for the ride from Puerto Plata airport to Sosua. The hotels in Sosua will also take US Dollars as payment. There are numerous money exchange places in Sosua. There is an ATM machine adjacent to Baileys restaurant (banco popular), at night that ATM machine has an armed guard. Closer to where hotel europa is located there are two ATM machines near the super super liquor store. Sometimes those machines did not work for me. The ATM machines only dispense pesos. Some ATM machines keep your card until the end of the transaction, so try not to forget it. Other ATM machines you swipe the card. Some places charge extra if you use a credit card and there is a lot of stealing of credit card information in the Dominican Republic, so use your credit card as less as possible and if you do use it, check your statement carefully after you return home.

Maybe you were too busy trying to pick out a hot number. A seasoned monger will scan for someone who looks like they are able to perform. Transaction fees for withdrawing money in the Dominican can be around 6 dollars per transaction, I have my accounts in Chase Bank here in the States. Some Dominican ATM machines only allow you to withdraw 2000 pesos per transaction (my experience with the Banco Leon ATM machine in the V Centannario lobby in santo domingo). The Banco Popular machines allow you to withdraw more than 2000 pesos at a time.
Depends how many days you are going for, as to how much cash you should bring. Problem with bringing a lot of cash is, if you are robbed, you lose a lot of money. Advantage to using the ATM is your money is safe in the bank and if you get robbed, they only get the money you have with you. Most hotel safes are secure, but not 100% secure. There is not much crime in Sosua and most of the hotels have good security.
Bring enough cash to cover your expenses for the first few days or enough to pay for your hotel stay and have some dollars for food, drink and the chicas.
You may not want to reserve and pay for 5 nights at some hotel all at once, you may not like the place. Pay for one or two nights, walk around and see other hotels, and after one or two nights you can try a different hotel if you are not happy.
If you travel during easter, then best to have reservations for all the nights you will be there. Most times I doubt all Sosua Hotels are fully occupied.
Good to bring some dollar bills that you can use to tip people. The Dominican paper money comes in denominations of 50 pesos (US $1.38), 100 pesos (US $2.77), 200 pesos (US $5.55), 500 pesos (US $13.88), 1000 pesos (US $27.77) and 2000 pesos (US $55.55).
The bars usually don't have great lighting, can be real difficult to see the numbers on the money at times. I usually have with me a tiny LED light. I usually carry US money with me as well, most places will take dollars, they give you change in pesos and usually jam you with a bad exchange rate.
Exchange rate is around 36 pesos to 1 US Dollar.

Terra Linda has Wifi and the router is in the restaurant. My friends always used their computers outside the room so I assume that the Wifi signal might be too weak for being picked up in the room. One of my friends had room A108 (which is close to the restaurant) and he still had to go out on the porch when he used the laptop. Also, the signal strength appears to vary and drops, occassionally. I assume that this is common in the DR.

Thanks Again for the info. About how much does the Exchange Center charge to convert USD to DOP.They don't charge a fee. They are mostly small little places. Western Union or the banks are bigger. My wingman will walk around and inquire about the rates and will exchange money with whomever gives him the best rate (usually the difference is a few points). I have changed money with one big guy who stands on the street, I have known him for years and never had a problem with him.
Best not to change money in the street in Santo Domingo because of scams.
In Sosua I never had problems changing money with the big guy who stands on the corner, those guys have a calculator and big wads of cash. As a newcomer to Sosua probably best to change money in the money exchange places, they will have a sign outside that says "CAMBIO", many have a small chalkboard where they list the exchange rates for that day for various currencies. Cambio is Spanish for change.
The exchange rates can change day to day.

Some may think they can get by just on their looks and their light skin, with no extra effort put in to make a guy happy. There are exceptions to all generalizations, but I have seen plenty of light skin snobby chicas in Dominican Republic, who must think their shit doesn't smell (I have seen snobby morenas and snobby dark skin chicas as well). Usually I stay away from them (I know there exists some light skin chicas in Dom Rep who are great in the bed). But for me as a general rule I won't go crazy for a light skin chica from Santiago, they may look good but when you get them to the bedroom, NADA.

Maybe I missed something but you can also exchange money in the bank. I went to Bank Reserva and the rate of excahnge was 36.1 pesos to the dollar. At the time this is the best I could find. The only issue is that you have to show some documentation (they mostly want your passport). They will photocopy it and send it to Santo Domingo by the end of the day. I am guessing because of money laundering, or some other issue. The second problem is that the bank closes by 7:00 PM. The advantage is that there is security inside so you can count your money and organize it before leaving the bank. They also give you a receipt.
I went with a couple of guys to an excahnge place near the corner of Dr. Rosen and Clisante. They tried to cheat two of my friends out of some money. My friends complained and was eventually given the correct amount. When I exchanged the money I gave the cashier an even number, that could be easily counted (5 twenty dollar bills!). He gave me the correct exchange. This is the last time I went to this exchange. I am guessing that some are good, and honest, but one has to be careful. One time I went with my cousin across the border into Mexico, to Laredo. We exchanged money only to be cheated out. I assume this is common behavior in other countries as well.

I have to laugh, but you are telling the truth. I still can not understand how guys can go back and forth to Sosua for years on end and never get tired of that place called So-Sewer.
A little thinking, a little desire for something different and better,,,,there is so, so, so much more to do in rep dom. Sosua is more like the COSTCO for pussy shopping, it is certainly no mini-mart. If you want more gourmet cuisine you'll need to shop in non-tourist areas.

Second trip to DR my first post. I first went to DR for a short 4 day at BB which was great and safe. I will be arriving this time on March 1-8 but BB is full. So I will be staying at FOD from the 1-3 and not really sure after that but planning on heading to Sosua and flying solo so I can test out the difference between having chica's spoon fed vs. Hunting for them myself which should be interesting. I'm having a hard time getting a room in Sosoua as well due to last minute planning. New Garden is full and I'm waiting to hear back from Sea Breeze for the Sosua part of my trip. If anyone wants to hook up in Sosua March 3rd I make a good wingman but my spanish is not the best, I can still manage to talk to the chicas. BB was great last time I was there in dec 06. Since then I've been having lots of fun in south east asia.

My Spanish is O.K., I meet more chicas online who live in and around Santo Domingo than any other part of the country.
Traffic during rush hour sucks in Santo Domingo, no beach in Santo Domingo. Plenty of working girls in Santo Domingo in the casas, on the streets, in the discos and casinos. Good variety.
I know a lot of guys who love going to Sosua, usually its a matter of convenience. Sosua is very easy.
It took me a little while to learn the ins and outs of Santo Domingo and it usually takes me day when I first get there to get into the groove of being in that city. I have met some great chicas who live in Santo Domingo.
I feel safe in Santo Domingo at all hours of the day and night. The National Police stopping cars at night can be a bit of a hassle in Santo Domingo, but either you chat with the police for a few minutes and they let you drive away or give them a few dollars and be on your way more quickly (or don't do too much driving late at night, especially in zona oriental).
There are some rich folks in Santo Domingo (baseball players and others) and you will see them in bars and casinos usually accompanied by their high end girlfriends, always nice to see some eye candy. Lots of non-pro chicas hang out in groups without guys in bars in Santo Domingo.
In Sosua you can have a bad night where you don't find a decent chica to sleep with, in Santo Domingo there is always a variety.
My wingman loves Sosua, for him Sosua is better, for a variety of reasons. Me being a single guy with no kids, I have time to chat up chicas online before I travel, for me Santo Domingo is better.

Bottoms offHere's an idea. Since BB's does their awesome "Bikini Contest" every other Saturday, why not have FOD do their version on the other Saturdays that BB's isn't doing their event. Avoids competition and keeps the scene active.
And what qualifies me to make this statement you might ask? I was at both locations first week in January (stayed at BB's) and banged out contestant #6 at the early Jan contest at BB's. FOD was just getting reorganized after a lull and the new American manager was quite open to ideas to bring FOD back up to standard. So take this one for what its worth.

But here's a secret I don't usually share. Wait until Cuba opens up fully. That will be like a valcum going thru the Caribbean. Everyone will go to Cuba which initially will hurt the DR. Then you buy at your price.But Cuba has no private property. I mean like NONE. It will take years to settle all the land claims and get that property back to its rightful owners who had it stolen by the Commies in the early 60's. Then, what to do with all those poor families living on/in all those unmaintained apartment buildings and run down collectivized fincas. Can't just tell them all to leave, can we?
I'm torn with the idea of retiring to Cuba vs the DR after we get rid of the Commies. And WE will, no doubt. But how will I go about buying property when I arrive? Who do I buy it from? Are their any deeds? Who owned this really nice parcel I want to build my version of BlackBeards/FOD on in 1961? Shall I pour tons of cash building my dream house here only to have the rightful Cuban-American owners show up with solid proof of ownership? OOPS! Talk about a "cloud" on the title. WHOA!

The only thing stopping it from happening now is Fidel stubborness and his spite of the US. Once Fidel dies everything will happen.
How do you solve the land issue? It all depends on the US governments stand on this issue. Will development win out and the government ignores this issue or will they stand by the Amercan cubans who have a claim. My prediction is if Cuba denounces communism, people who have legitamate claims will be compensated partially. This will take the politics out, and encourage development of Cuba.

Can anyone who has recently been to Sosua report on the "scene"? Buscemi recently reported (via the photo gallery) chicas to mongerers running 4:1. Can anyone else verify this? I'm not due there until a few more weeks and was just trying to get a current "lay of the land."
Also, the last time I was there you had k*ds who would ask you for money while you ate and some of them would just stand there until you either gave them something or the waiter would ask them to leave. Has this gotten better or worse? I have no problem giving anything, it's just that once you do it you tend to see the same one over and over again, or word spreads and then the rest of them will come at you with their hands out!

I was there one August and there was like a group hangin around Classicos. The littleone a nucklehead with a big silver chain on{guess they get this shit from the citypeople}. Anyways they were pestering me and my chica. I knew some of them. When she went to an exchange to talk with a girfriend, I played like I was hustling her and I signaled behind my back for them to go as though they were a part of the action. It worked. I must say also that in the summer it's mostly dominicans on pedro clisante. Passing El Flow this cat was sitting there with afucked up look on his face. The ratio of available chicas/males in Sosua is something like 4:1 right now, and there is no shortage of georgeous mamis in STI, and SDQ.
The begging situation is no different now than it ever was, a firm waving of the finger sends them on their way, you give to who/when you want.

It seems that there are quite a few chicas who are still trying to start the negotiations at 3000 pesos and not willing to go below 1500 for ST, but at the end of the day, if you are willing to walk from a specific chica, there are tons of chicas - including many hotties - who will go for 1000 ST or 2000 LT.
I am definitely seeing an influx of Haitians, and their service seems clearly to be better than the hardened Sosua regulars who´ve been here for a year or more. BTW, the Santiago sisters are both still running their play on newbies at the New Garden and elsewhere.

The place you are talking about is probably Terra Linda. It is owned by two Puerto Rican brothers who owned part of the Met Supermarket chain, in New York City. I am guessing that they sold their franchises. They are trying to keep the chica situation discreet and want it also for nonmongers. When I was there there were no chicas hanging around the place though they were allowed to use the pool (I am guessing as long as they are accompanied by a guy). The place is quite nice.

This is definitely Terra Linda. More like 60 meters from New Garden right next to Casa Valeria. I am staying there now and have already posted plenty of info about it. It is guest friendly, but they do not encourage the sort of wild party atmosphere that New Garden does. IMHO, at the current prices of $55-75 a night relative to the quality of the rooms and facilities, it is the best place in Sosua at the moment. I expect the rates to rise given the value proposition compared to the local competition once folks become more aware of this place and they get the normal startup bugs out of the way (things like sporadic hot water when the weather is cloudy, and some ongoing construction).

Everyone has there own thing!SDQ has many more non-pro, semi-pro type chicas, who are happy to hang out in a bar or disco and usually afterwards have sex. Santiago if I drive fast is 2 hours away, Juan Dolio about an hour, San Pedro de Marcoris a little over an hour. San Cristobal and Bani are not very far away from SDQ.
There are some pricey chicas in SDQ, but bargains and practically freebies can be had in SDQ.
I have no business interests in Santo Domingo, if no other mongers go to SDQ, better for the guys who stay in SDQ. Santo Domingo is not for everyone. My wingman hates Santo Domingo.

The water by the main beach is nothing to write home about, but not too bad either, while the beach itself is your typical caribbean one, with white sand and palm trees. Some have complained about the vendors, but I don't think they're too bothersome: if you're not insterested in what they're selling, simply don't talk and even more important don't even look at them: it may sound rude but this, like others around the world, is not a country where you want to be nice and polite to everyone, nor it is always expected of you.
As reported elsewhere, Cialis, Viagra, LaPela, Levitra and much more are readily available at the farmacia opposite La Roca restaurant, on the way to the beach.
Most restaurants seem to serve the same kind of food, but beside Casa Valeria I only tried two others. Ate better at lunch on the beach, actually.

We also visited SD and Boca Chica, but since Sosua is where we spent the bulk of our time, I will post here some more generic considerations about the DR.
First of all thanks to all those members who answered to my private messages: you were a great help and my trip wouldn't have been the same without your suggestions. You know who you are.
This was my first mongering trip in the Caribbeans, and coming from three straight trips in Asia, the first thing I noticed was that Dominican and Haitian girls (if my meager sample can be used for comparisons) are less skilled and less technically proficient then their Asian counterparts. They of course make up for it with passion and involvement.
Another interesting issue came to light: Asian girls leave their kids with their parents and go work to send money home; Dominican girls keep the kids and that seems to be one of the reasons why most of them simply cannot do a toda la noche.
While most Haitian girls are tall and slender, Dominican girls come in any shape you may possibly desire, from the very big ones down to the very tiny ones. A good deal of leggy model types.
On this subject, apparently it's a fact that on average Americans like girls with a big culo, while Europeans prefer the thin ones (flacas). Most girls seems to have realized this, and upon asking a couple of them told me that they generally approach first the customers who they think will be attracted to their particular looks.

More detailed info on Terra Linda:
I don't know how good the wifi is in all the rooms - I used the hotel's laptop in the area by the pool patio, and the wifi is fine there - but it very well might not be good throughout the building - lots of places seem to be unwilling to pay for enough antenna points to give coverage throughout the complex.
As for hot water, they had some issues during peak times after the weather was very cloudy or rainy - the water would be fairly warm, but not hot. They obviously use solar for a significant portion of their water heating capacity. When it was sunny during the day, there was never any problem. Those were the two concerns I might have with the place, except that I have similar concerns with EVERY place in Sosua. The other issue is that they are still doing some finishing touch construction around the pool courtyard - but unlike at New Garden, they at least didn't do anything with loud power tools early in the morning - it seemed that any really loud construction that they had to do was always done in the afternoon.
I consider those to be fairly typical issues for any new place in the DR, and they are far outweighed by the much higher quality of the rooms and pool area than at any other guest friendly place in Sosua and it is in a prime location.
The food is pretty good. Their restaurant is upscale and pricey, but their daily specials are much more attractively priced than their regular menu. For example, A Ribeye or New York Strip steak is normally 795 pesos, + 26% taxes, and soup or salad runs 170-190 pesos + taxes. However, during the week, they ran a Ribeye special and a New York Strip steak special for 695 pesos + 26% that also included soup or salad. And they had some excellent lunch specials for 195 - 295 pesos + 26%. It is also noteworthy that, unlike most restaurants in Sosua, they accept credit cards without a surcharge.
First time in the DR, went with a buddy, started our tour with a 4 day stay in Sosua.

Darn this is one of the best reports, maybe THE best report I have ever seen by a DR newbie. Everything the author says is correct, even the comments about expats and other mongers, the babies at home, and several other points, many of which it took me many visits to pick up on. Yes Dominicanas are playful and Haitianas are sweet and loving--bang on.
And, as I have said many times before, the more Spanish you speak before you leave home, the better the sex you will have when you will arrive. Even if your trip is two weeks hence, spending an hour a day practicing Spanish with a CD will pay huge dividends.

I have OK wifi here in the Terra Linda, right now I've got three bars inside my room facing the restaurant. If a good connection is important to you, I suggest you ask for a room in the A building such as 106, 108, 206, 208 or 306, 308. They told me that the hot water alternative electric heater system was fixed today, so that we can have hot water during this crap rainy weather we have been having for the last couple of days. I hope the weather changes since it is keeping a large number or girls at home instead of on the street.

A business can open and sell alcohol one or two hours later than curfew if they get a special goverment license. I am sure that there are places that sells alcohol at any time without a special permit, as for example Aurora in Santo Domingo, located behind el Jaragua.

Caperinha bar across from Hotel Romanoff was open 24/7.
They would turn the lights on in Classicos and stop the music, always interesting to see some of those chicas in bright lights, some of them look a lot better with dim lights.

I can remember being in Sosua a few months after, when the curfew was first put into place, there were police and soldiers in cars and pickup trucks clearing the streets in front of classicos...
The first time I saw this it blew my mind. I was coming out of Classico's and as I walked pass Latinos I saw a few soldiers standing in the middle of the road facing directly towards the club with their assault rifles in hand. They were standing in front of what looked like a huge armored truck. I though I was either walking into a Mexican stand-off, or had already missed some big shit that went down.
But everyone else (the locals) looked as if they didn't even notice them standing there. I didn't know that is how they enforce curfew though, lol!
Oh, and all of this came on the same day of watching a local guy get a gun pulled on him...at Classicos. True story. And the man with the gun was a lefty, lol. The guy was actually one of the people who worked at the club and was having trouble with one of those guys (touts) who was peddling chicas and drugs to gringos. They didn't want him anywhere near the club.
The thing is though, the club was not even open! Me and two other guys were sitting at merengue bar at 4pm watching "Jurrasic Park" on the television with the bartender. From Classicos, make a left when you leave Classicos, keep walking straight, at the third intersection (should be the super super liquor store on that corner) make a left and it will be down that street, toward the end of that street on the right.
I went to bar caperinha twice around 5am after "After One" closed, I had french fries which were good and I tried the soup. I believe they have hamburgers and chicken as well. Outdoor seating with about 4-5 tables on gravel.
Mostly all local dominicans at that hour. One morning I left there around 6:30am. Funny thing about this bar is that it is located on the same street as the buildings for the Sosua government.
I could have gotten into a fight one time at caperinha, with some young Dominican who supposedly said an insult about tourists in Spanish. A Dominican who I was with said the guy said something insulting in Spanish, I didn't hear it.

As far as I know this place is open all night. Stopped in a few times after Merengue closed and people were just starting to come in at that time.
From New Garden take a right and another right at the ice cream shop and walk 3 blocks. Take another right and walk about 50 yards and it is on your left nestled away from the street. Hotel Romanoff is across the street a little further. It's pretty much local cuisine there and quite a few locals hang out there too. Scout it out during the day and you'll have no problem finding it at night.

Thats why I draw the line at meeting family. If your goal is to travel and monger, this sometimes can hinder what you want to achieve. You can also buy an unlocked phone. Go to Amazon.com and search for "Unlocked" or "International" cell phones. They need to also be "Quad-band" (or "Tri-band" ?).
I bought a Motorola Razor for about $80 which worked perfectly during my last trip. I took it to the Claro store and they activated it with no problems and even put a small sticker with the phone number on the back. You will need to take your passport to the store with you and will also need to know the phone number to your hotel (they need that info).

I would just like to add that the "Puta/John" set up is not limited to mongering. Just ask anyone who's ever been in the military. When I was in I knew guys who would send money back home to their "highschool sweethearts" only to one day get "that phone call (or email)" that she has gotten pregnant by someone else, found someone else, can't wait on you any longer, etc.
It gets even worse for guys who get married and then are deployed for 8 months to a year or more. If you have her living on base then she becomes "everyone's girl." While you are "dancing in the desert" she is back in the States running through your paycheck(s) and partying "like it's 1999" (Prince). I lost count of how many times I would run into a married girl in the club who would say "I'm married, but my husband is on deployment..."

I have also read that you should take maximum insurance regardless of what you have at home or with your Visa card?
Any help on these two subjects would be appreciated. Also, if there are any experienced mongers down there on these dates I would like to meet up and share some stories and info.
I usually rent from Alamo and make the reservations online before I go. Alamo requires you make the reservations online at least 24 hours before you will pick up the car. My Mastercard credit card provides coverage if the car is stolen or damaged. With Alamo online you can choose third party liability insurance for an extra $5 dollars per day. You can also choose tire and windshield protection for $3.75 per day. Collision damage/theft protection is $19.95 per day. You should check with your credit card company whether they provide coverage for car rentals. I don't know much about Visa cards. If your Visa card provides coverage for Collision damage/theft protection then there is NO need to pay the rental company an extra $19.95 per day for that coverage.
Chevy spark with alamo from April 7 to April 14 would be $150 dollars. If you choose third party liability and glass/windshield protection the price would be $212. A slightly bigger car, the chevy aveo would cost $226. I never have had problems with Alamo. Print out a copy of the online reservations and bring it with you, in case they try to charge you more.
Glass/windshield insurance you may not need. I have gotten a few flat tires in dom rep. Glass depends, I know of when one crazy chica threw a presidente bottle at a car window, but it didn't break the window.
I would definitely pay for the third party liability insurance, in case someone is injured by your car.
If you have an old cell phone in your house that you no longer use, you can bring it to Dom Rep. Most cell phone shops in DR are able to unlock most cell phones. From what I know, two basic types of cell phone signals, GSM and CDMA. If the cell phone shop unlocks your phone, they will be able to tell you which Cell phone company to use in the Dom Rep with that phone. Orange and Claro are the two biggest cell phone companies in the Dom Rep.
Most shops charge around 20 dollars to unlock a cell phone. Once your phone is unlocked, the cell phone shop will get a dominican phone number for your cell, usually a 809 or 829 area code.
Thereafter to add minutes you buy Claro or orange cards (60 pesos, 100 pesos, 250 pesos, 500 pesos). You scratch off part of the back of the card to reveal a 10 digit code. For Claro you dial 1133 and press send, you will hear a recorded message asking you to put in the 10 digit code from the back of the card. You enter the code from the back of the card and thereafter minutes will be added to your dominican cell phone.
You can a buy a Claro cell phone in Dom Rep for 495 pesos, less than 15 dollars. I did that my last trip, only problem is that it is a ZTE brand cell phone, which I hate, small screen size and I could not change the sound settings. I have in the past bought a 20 dollar verizon samsung camera phone at walmart which I had unlocked in Dom Rep. That 20 dollar Samsung phone is 10 times better than the ZTE.
Another member recommended Adventure rent a car in Dom Rep.

Wise words. I have seen this a thousand times. When I was younger I just did not want to believe it but today I have come to the realization that women LOVE MONEY. No if and or buts about it. They seldom understand how influenced they are by it. I called my insurance company here in Canada and for $14 they added a international over ride to my house insurance for the month of April. This includes rental cars outside of North America. $1,000,000 combined personal and 3rd party insurance on rental cars. It sure beats $35 / day from the rental car company and I have total piece of mind with my own insurance company and a million in coverage. Just a tip if mongering anywhere - call your insurance company and get them to insure your rental vehicle.

I think what is more important is to appreciate that Dominicans see matrimony and relationships in a more transactional way that Americans do.
Actually it was that way too in Anglo Saxon circles until Jane Austen, a fairly plain, though very intelligent woman who turned down a proposal of marriage from an ugly millionaire, started the idea that there had to be romantic love as well as money involved.
Be that as it may, Americans tend to think that love and sex have to be connected, but Dominicans don't share that cultural heritage and are much less sentimental about love and marriage.
So if the father sees you as a good catch, it is because he thinks you will be a good economic asset to the family.

it's the Cubans, Mexicans and PR's in the US that don't particularly get along. Those tensions don't exist in the countries themselves.
The US tensions exist for a variety of reasons, but basically the Cubans stateside come from the rich and middle classes that fled Cuba, and are far better educated and for the most part, are self made in the US.
They look down on Mexicans, who tend to be very poor and uneducated peasants and of course the PR's who are stateside, many are on US welfare, adapt urban thug culture and this doesn't sit well with the Cubans either, despite the cultural similarities otherwise. Cubans will also make fun of the way the PR's pronounce their r's like l's.
I can see nothing wrong unless there is more to the story. Interest to know what happen next.

I would suggest that you ask your Insurance company to fax or email you a copy of the declaration page for the override insurance, that includes the policy number and dates of coverage and that you bring that page with you to the Dom Rep and leave it in the glove box of the car. In case you have an accident you will have something to show the police and it could keep the police from putting you in jail.
I spoke to another member recently and he returned a car rental with a damaged tire that could not be repaired and the car rental company wanted to charge him 3,000 pesos (83 dollars) for a new tire. I destroyed a tire on an Avis van one time and the folks at Avis wanted to charge me 250 dollars for a new tire. If you rent with alamo/national it might be worth it to pay the $3.75 per day for glass and tire insurance.
You will probably use a credit card to rent the the car, they will put a $1,000 hold on your credit card. Also check your credit card account regularly after you use it in the Dom Rep, lots of fraud with credit cards in the Dom Rep.
If you rent from Alamo/National send me a PM, and I'll send you the name of the chica who I know who works at Alamo, she usually works the counter at the airport in Puerto Plata.
You can burn compact discs with music on your home computer to listen to in the car, the alamo rentals all have cd players.
You may want to post a question on the Puerto Plata thread asking for the location of a codetel/claro or Orange shop where you can buy a cell phone. I believe your first night will be in BB, so you may want a cell phone shop near BB to buy a cell your first day.
I usually bring with me a 10 dollar corded hands free device to use with the cell, while I am in the car, the police are generally few and far between in Dom Rep, they can pull you over for talking on the cell if you are not using a hands free device, usually best not to give them an excuse to try and shake you down for money. Driving in Puerto Plata there will be many 125 cc motorcycles around you, change lanes and make turns cautiously. Pedestrians and the guys driving the motorcycles usually watch out for larger motor vehicles (always amazes me that there are not more accidents with all the hustle and bustle going on). Keep loose coins in the car, just about always some person will come and wash your windshield, whether you want them to or not, you can give them a few pesos (2 pesos or 5 pesos, depending what coins you have).
The drive from Puerto Plata city (once you are outside the city) to Sosua is easy.
Full size SUV that are common in the Dominican Republic are the Toyota Pajaro (pajaro supposedly also means homosexual) and Mitsubishi Montero. About 4 years ago I traveled with three other other guys and we rented a nissan x-trail from Alamo which was a smallish SUV.

BUT he sat down with me, broke down the cost of everything (apartment, how much money he sent her monthly, etc) told me how every time he came to DR she would be attentive to his EVERY need all the way down to cutting and polishing his toes and concluded that even the BEST female from the states wasn’t going to pamper him like that (or look that good) and it would’ve cost him even more money even though the female from the states is not a hoe.
So like a grown man he moved on, somber because it didn’t end the way he wanted but happy about the value, the attention and loved he received and wiser.

Perhaps I deal with less divisiveness since my fellow workers are a combination of Nigerians, Ecuadorian, Panamanian, African American, Jamaican, Chinese, From Guyana, Puerto Rican, Dominican Republic, and a couple of other countries that escape me at present. When there are conflicts they are usually issues of individual personalities rather than real cultural differences.
It is unfortunate about your Puerto Rican friend. In all due respect, the man is misguided.
The educational system, by the way, in the Dominican Republic was heavily influenced by a Puerto Rican (who's bones are buried in the National Pantheon, in Santo Domingo). This same Puerto Rican also fought for the rights of women to seek education in Central America, and fought for civil rights of Chinese workers in South America. Also, Cuba, The Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico, over a hundred years ago, ran in the same circles, seeking independence. They were all sharing a common cause. Two of these territories gained independence. Studies have been done and only about 5% of the Puerto Ricans on the island seek independence. The "Independentistas" are really a minority. That said, all three are great groups. I hope that I have not offended you, Jaosousa, or anyone else for that matter, in any way. As usual, Jasosousa, your insights are a learning experience for me. It gives me an idea how people feel about things.

I was there for 4 nights. $55 was the rate they gave me as a walk-in, when they obviously had plenty of vacancies, and they knew I was shopping around. I heard that when one inquires by e-mail, they generally quote $65 a night. Some rooms have kings, some have 2 queens, and some have 1 queen - I chose a 1 queen room because it was on the first floor. The king rooms are higher up. The pool is MUCH bigger than any of the other places I saw in Sosua. Probably triple the size of New Garden's pool, and 4 times the size of the Seabreeze's pool. The lounge chairs are also higher quality than most - which matters to me because I'm a big guy.

Sosua is a town in Puerto Plata Province. The city of Puerto Plata is about 30-40 minutes from Sosua. Playa Dorada golf course is in the resort complex of Playa Dorada near Puerto Plata city.
Sosua is about 30 minutes from Playa Dorada golf course. In the heat, I wouldn't want to be schlepping around golf clubs (carrying a golf club bag to and from the airport, as well as from your hotel room to a taxi, to go to the golf course). If you were to stay in a resort that had a golf course attached to it, then I could see taking your own clubs. But if you will be staying in Sosua, I believe you will not want to take the 30 minute taxi ride everyday to play golf lugging around a golf club bag in temperatures that can reach close to 90 degrees on some days.

Bud Leeeeeeee, third room floors have the big beds. So if three flights of stairs isn´t a big deal for you, I would suggest a room on that floor. If internet wifi connection is important, try to get a room facing the restaurant...around 306A..although if you are going to be hauling a golf bag around, maybe a first floor room would be better.

In Sosua at least, the clerk at the Claro store would probably be up for an after-hours date with you if the price was right. Generally speaking, the average non-hooking job that a young woman can get in the DR doesn't pay squat, and they are mostly open to opportunities to supplement their income. Sex does not have the stigma there that it does in the U.S. Of a chica really doesn't want to participate in P4P, she probably isn't in Sosua.

The Pros don't wear a scarlet letter on their clothing, in the daytime they usually wear normal clothes (the store clerk may or may not know the chica is a pro). I have never seen any great animosity between pros and non-pros.
